Error 7026 "The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: cdrom"

Question: Error 7026 "The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: cdrom"

Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.2
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 42 Stepping 7
Processor Count: 4
RAM: 8103 Mb
Graphics Card: Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000, -1988 Mb
Hard Drives: C: Total - 476837 MB, Free - 271044 MB;
Motherboard: ASRock, Z68 Extreme3 Gen3
Antivirus: AVG Internet Security 2014, Updated and Enabled
-----------------
Problem:
My Windows 7 Professional "Explorer" tree (not Internet Explorer) no longer lists my CD/DVD ROM DRIVE under the Device Manager/Drives. It used to.

I've checked the System Registry and it has lots of info about that ATAPI drive, but my system fails to find the "cdrom" driver (which is the one Windows 7 uses by default). It's not a 3rd-party driver.

The tray on my CD/DVD drive opens and closes properly. Windows just won't recognize the drive, so I can't use it.

I'm hoping someone can offer a 'manual' solution to get it working again. I do not want to spend a month to reinstall my OS and tons of hard-to-configure software. I've read countless other posts and solutions, both here and on MS's sites. The info on MS's sites is not even understandable. It's too vague and often doesn't even apply to my situation.

Note: The error (7026) message is:
"The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
cdrom"

Preferred Solution: Error 7026 "The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: cdrom"

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

Has anyone ran into the Event ID in the Title?
(Event ID: 7026, Message: The Following boot-start or System-start Driver(s) failed to load: TMEBC)

The user is getting CHKDSK every time they boot up the machine and it fails within seconds of it starting.
I removed the Scheduled task under the AutoChk area in the Task Scheduler.

Anyone have anything on this driver or able to assist?

I recently had to install a new battery for my computer. After doing so I started having this problem and receiving the following Error from the "Service Control Manager" Event ID:7026 The following Boot-Start or System-Start driver(s)
failed to load: ppfd_vt_1_10_0_24 Param 1. The issues I am having are; Unable to completely "SHUT DOWN" unless I press the power button, this is after I have already selected the "shut down" option in the Start menu. Never
had to press the power button to power off my computer. Also, at "START-UP", I get as far as a black screen with a white flashing cursor in upper left-hand corner. At this point I am stuck, nothing takes me out of this state unless I press the "POWER"
button to shut-down. In order to start-up & Boot, I disconnect AC Adapter, remove battery, wait about 20 seconds, re-install battery, power adapter, and push power button. Now my computer is all good. Can anyone help me with this, I've researched for 2
weeks and am no where. Thanks for any help. My computer is quite old, 2010 Sept., but I'm hoping that I don't have to purchase a new one...(I'm a lil cheap) lol

Briefly:
My old system hasn't been powered on for about a year. Problem was the onboard video failed (I think)

Recently replaced it with a video card from another system (riva TNT) and bought some memory (system wouldn't boot, determined that the memory was bad)

Now the system booted but win2K wouldn't work. No problem I have XP now...

After multiple error during the xp install I finally got through it...only the computer will only boot in safe mode..

Initially thought it was a hardare conflict so I booted in safe mode with networking and systematically cleared all the yellow ??? in device manager

Still will not boot normally

Checked event log got the following error:
Event 7026: The following boot-start or system-start drivers failed to load:

Amdk7
fips

Searched the net found a M$ support about it

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306458

couldn't find amdk7.sys but managed to update the driver over the net, now its there...yet I get the same error

I did the regedit described but no folder called "parameters"

Made one....didn't work....deleted the value
added the key to my available folder....didn't work

I'm at wits end....I've been working on this (off and on) for a month

Can anyone help with this one?????

Each time I boot my computer, I receive the follow message in the Event Viewer System Log File:

The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:

Here is the information that I see when I sent it to the Microsoft Support and Help Center

What I believe is happening is that all though I uninsulated CA's Anti virus package and installed Microsoft's Security Essentials, not all the CA software was removed.

Help in getting rid of this problem would be greatly appreciated.

I checked through the Event log in Administrator tools.
I got the following error: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: BANTExt

What is it?

I googled BANTExt and found out it's BelArc Advisor. Is it true?

How do I stop this error?

Answer:The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: BANTExt

Yes, BANText.sys is the Belarc Advisor system driver file.It is started automatically from a Run, RunOnce, RunServices, or RunServicesOnce entry in the registry everytime Windows starts. To prevent the error you would need to find and remove that entry in the registry.

Sorry if this has already been answered/wrong place. I looked at Google but thought I double check here (since the solutions via Google seem to be refering to a different OS to mine)

First of: Windows Vista, SP2, 64 bit.

Now sometimes (and not now since I am writing this) my Keyboard/Mouse just stops working. It freezes completely and I am unable to use it and am hence required to restart the computer. This happens at random occasions but it usually involves opening some program or what not (I noticed a prominent pattern that the mouse/keyboard freezes whenever I go to speedtest.com measure my speed and then once the download speed bar is finished and upload is about to begin my computer freezes).

I had a look at my event viewer and noticed this:

The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
i8042prt

Now I am not sure whether this appears at the start and then once I run a program or do something (like go on speedtest.com) the commuter then freezes (i.e. my mouse/keyboard is non-responsive) or the error message comes up after my computer freezes but any help in fixing this mouse/keyboard freezing would be very grateful.

The solution to fixing this problem I founds was to go to Registry editor and change the Start D word from 1 to 4 (but I noticed some saying to delete it completely and yet other sources to change it from 1 to 0 and yet even others to change something that I don't even have under that folder). If I was to tamper with the reg informa... Read more

If I was to tamper with the reg information, is it possible that I wont ever get access to my keyboard/mouse? My worry is that I might change some value so that I will have no way of getting to the computer with the keyboard/mouse (I am not good with bios) and would not be able to get help on the internet since I can't connect!

It is bad idea

DWORD Start may have following values

0 -boot ,1 -system ,2- auto ,3 -demand, 4 -disabled. Surly if you'll set to 4 you lose access to keyboard and mouse.Don't modify anything.Find folder C:\Windows\Minidump pack it and attache to post.If Minidump folder is empty use verifier tool to diagnose wrong drivers read here:http://www.vistax64.com/973966-post8.html

Guys, I'm running Windows XP and recently when I turn on my PC it makes a single beeb and then seems to run OK.

Tonight, I was running Firefox and the system seemed to slow, before becoming completely unresponsive. I had Task Manager open at the time, however when I tried to shut Firefox down the PC started bleeping like mad and I was forced to do a hard shut down.

I waited about 1 minute and then rebooted and immedietly went into the Error log and found the following entry:

"The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: StarOpen"

I tried Googling a fix with no luck and I can't find StarOpen in the Services, Apps or Program files. Nor could I find it listed in the Device Manager or the Boot-start list in msconfig.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

hi,

I am currently making a device specific module for microsoft MPIO. I have successfully installed the mpio and my own DSM. However, during start-up, an error message comes out saying: "At least one service or driver failed during system startup. Use Event Viewer to examine the event log for details."

When I checked the event log, it says:

The following boot-start or system-start driver failed to load: TrailNavi

TrailNavi is the name of the device specific module that i am making. I am currently using a 32bit server with Windows 2003 OS.

I am trying to test my DSM, but could not do so because the driver can't be loaded..

Monday couldn't boot up PC, had to go to system recovery and restore to previous day.

Log files show below that 4 things failed to load.

Tuesday couldn't boot up PC again.. tried to restart like 4-5 times.. Finally comes up and in the logs there's numerous things that failed to load. Running a sfc /scannow right now.

Any ideas what this could be related to or what is causing it?

Answer:Solved: Boot-Start or System-Start Drivers failed to load.

MpFilter is a driver associated with Microsoft Security Essentials... It looks like that was causing issues. Windows Updates had an update for it.. So I downloaded update.. Restared and it worked fine. Removed MS Security Essentials and installed Symantec istead.

Working for the time being...

I'm not sure where to even begin to fix these problems. Some online searches suggested doing a system repair but I want to get some more feedback here before proceeding.

Here is the message from the event log:
The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
AFD
cmdGuard
cmdHlp
CSC
DfsC

vwififlt

I realized some of these are not Windows 7 related but most are. While the computer "works", I do experience frequent reboots and freezes. Perhaps some of these driver loading failures are part of the cause of my issues. I do have another recent thread here regarding system crashes so I'll leave that alone in this post.

TIA

Answer:the following boot start or system start drivers failed to load

Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7, or a Repair Install would a better first option.

You will have to reinstall the third-party drivers again yourself from their website.

Hope this helps,

Hi, yes it looks like you corrupted your BCD store there is bcdedit.exe that can be run from a command prompt to fix Vista's boot loader, however there is a much better way, use this program to fix your boot problem (read the info this is a powerful program) :-

Hi guys,

For the last few weeks, I've been getting the "Windows Failed to Start" error screen intermittently when I try to boot my computer. This does not always happen, but several times on occasion. I then proceed to run Startup Repair (with a system restore), and then I am able to launch Windows when it completes.

When I log in, I get the message that "Windows has recovered from an unexpected error," the error type being "Bluescreen." I don't recall ever seeing a bluescreen actually happening; the night before I see the error the next day, my computer seems to shut down without issue.

HIDClass BSODs can mean you have a corrupted or incompatible USB device or driver connected. Since you are having problems on startup I would recommend removing all USB devices and test to see what happens.

You have a driver named MayPro.sys. This is for a gamepad of some sorts (haven't researched yet) and has caused at least one BSOD with a quick search. Remove the gamepad if its connected and/or uninstall the driver and see if that helps.

A few weeks ago a techie friend tidied up my Vista laptop. Coincidentally a few days later, when I switched on my desktop (windows7) all my documents had disappeared. I reinstalled from a backup.
I do think this must be a coincidence.
However I now find that after working on the desktop for a while, clicking Start and then Control Panel or Computer result in a explorer.exe "System Failled Call" window appearing.
Restarting clears this but it happens again.
I have scanned with AVG & windows defender and also used the microsoft system scan tool. Nothing untoward showed up.
Attempted a system restore but no luck as it wouldn't work.
I ran Task manager, killed explorer.exe, went back into task manager, new task and typed "explorer.exe". This has worked for the moment.
Finally each time I close down I get the message programs are still running tho' none are listed. My only option is to force closedown. I feel these problems are all related.

Incidentally, when another user logged in their closedown was clean.
Very confused. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Clicking Start, Control panel/computer results in "System Call Failed"

I first would create a new Restore Point. Then I would go to MSCONFIG via WinKey--R and either disable some startup items or select Diagnostic Startup. If these stop the problem then focus on what is enabled in a full boot - including non-MS services on the Services tab of MSCONFIG.

Hey guys,

Recently my iTunes went haywire and froze my computer, and when I rebooted it, I got the error:

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "next".
3. Click "repair your computer".

Ya-da ya-da..

I have a Samsung SF510 laptop running Windows 7 x64.

Anyways, I burned an ISO to a disk (downloaded from this forum) and put it in, and hit F4 which brought me to Samsung Recovery Solution 5 or something like that, and it has said "please wait" for the past 6 hours

I've tried booting Sea Tools by putting the CD drive as my #1 on my BIOS priority boot list, but no luck.

When I hit F12, then I get the error:

Media test failure, check cable
Exiting ---

Im pretty darn sure its a hard drive problem (Despite the hard drive still being recognized in my BIOS).

Before I shell out $400 for future shop to recover data, swap the hard drive and install everything for me...Do you guys have any thoughts?

Thanks so much. I gave as many details as I could.

Answer:"Windows failed to start", won't allow me to boot from CD/DVD drive

F12 should be the key for BIOS boot menu on Samsung, used to trigger the DVD if it was burned correctly for a Clean Reinstall. If you're choosing HD and getting the error you specifiy then it likely is a bad HD. Is the HD detected in BIOS setup? Check now?

Work through these steps starting with HD tests: Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot.

What ISO did you burn that caused what you describe? Did you skip to trying to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 and somehow confused running Samsung Recovery with booting the Win7 DVD? These are two separate things. Google your Samsung model + run Factory Recovery to understand better the difference.

The Dependency service or group failed to start." i have tried running sfc scannow and netsh winsock reset but it does nothing. and have run a virus scan on avg but no viruses show up.
I cannot also run a system restore; when i try i get the following msg "the shadow copy provider has an unexpected error while trying to process the specified operation (0x8004230F). i have tried using system restore in both safe and normal modes but nothing works.

I just built a new pc two days ago and have noticed every single time on startup I receive the "Error: Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might have caused the issue after you install Windows Updates" error, the keyboard doesn't turn on during boot so I can't access the bios despite having changed the boot order to specifically boot usb before anything else, now all I can do when I see the message is turn the pc off again, unplug all the sata cables, which then allows the keyboard to start working straight away some how, then once I've accessed the bios I just turn it off again, plug the sata cables back in and the error just disappears, only reappearing when I next boot

Answer:During startup I always receive "Windows failed to start" error

Perhaps a device address conflict?
I had once a problem with loading, swapped the Sata port and it runs since than ok.

A friend who has an Aspire One with Win7 Starter asked me to help, his computer wouldn't boot. It would go through the bios part of the boot and then very quickly it would show an error saying "ynhif is compressed" and stop there. The error would come up so fast it was as if Windows wasn't even trying to boot. There was none of the normal Windows startup screens. There was nothing I could do to boot the machine. I couldn't get to the list of boot options. This problem was happening way before one could get that list in the startup process.

I booted off an AVG antivirus rescue disk cd and checked the system. There were no viruses. That disk allowed me to use a simple file browser and editor. I could see a file named ynhif with no file extension and a file size of around 233kb. It was modified at the same time that win7.ld was modified.

I googled heavily but couldn't find anything about a file named vnhif. I didn't know what to do so on a hunch I just renamed the file to ynhif.old and the system booted right up.

Does anyone have any idea what ynhif might be from and how it got there? I looked into it with a text editor and looked like it was some kind of boot file, with references to linuxey stuff and thing about booting.

I thought I'd post this here as it might help someone else and also to see if anyone had any ideas.

Thanks!
Greg

I've been trying to change the motherboard and cpu in my current computer. After hooking everything up, the computer runs till the windows 7 loading screen, then stalls and restarts. Upon restart I'm brought to the "windows has failed to start" message and attempting to repair through that yields no results.

I hooked my old parts back up to make sure the hard drive was still good and it is. With the old parts everything boots normally.

The new parts I'm putting in are;
-AMD fx 6 core 3.3ghz processor
-Asus M5A97 motherboard

I'm totally out of ideas, any help would be greatly appreciated. I was able to pull the following from the "windows has failed to start" repair option, dont know if itll help.

Answer:"Windows has failed to start" error after installing new parts

Ok,firstly Welcome to Seven Forums!

Now worst case cenario would be your cpu cooler isnt seeted well, and the cpu gets too hot too quickly, then windows shuts it down automatically to avoid any major damages, I would say check the thermal paste on your cpu, check that the cpu cooler makes perfect contact with the cpu, check that all the fans on the cpu cooler are plugged in and working ext.

Secondly, remove all the ram you have installed except for one, leave the one closest to the cpu still in its slot. Now unplug any usb flash-drives,or wi-fi devices and start up the pc,when the screen starts up,press "del" - (delete) to go into bios, check the temps of your cpu there and watch it for about a minute or two,and see if it spikes or picks up too fast. Press f10 save and exit, the pc will restart and will now boot with only the one ram you installed,if the problem is gone, replace the other dims one by one after switching off,and start again.(Pc must be switched off at the power plug, before changing ram)

Please reply with results, and also with your system specs,ie:motherboard name and make, memory type and amount of ram you have, graphics card/s...and so,basically everything in your pc.

Hello,
After the upgrade I am consistently getting this error:

Do know it is related to Skype for Business and several posts -- mostly in Microsoft Forums-- suggest uninstalling.

But Control Panel==>Programs and Features does not have Skype for Business listed.

I am running "stand alone" Office 2016 not Office 365 etc.

Stumped.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm down to one last error in the Administrative Event Log. I have searched the Web for a solution and it seems there are a lot of solutions but I have yet to find one that works for me or anybody else for that matter. It has become personal! Can someone please help me get to the bottom of this error. I will supply whatever additional information is needed.

Answer:Session "" failed to start with the following error: 0xC000000D

Let's start with this information even though you're not having BSOD's: http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html

FWIW - the C000000D error is probably an "Invalid Parameter" error - which means (to me) that something is trying to launch improperly. More info on the error will help us figure out if it's within our control (such as a setting) or out of our control (such as a bug in a program).

Many people have posted about Event 2 - Session "Circular Kernel Context Logger" failed to start with the following error: 0xC0000035. I have not seen any posts where someone from Microsoft explained why this event occurs, why it occurs
in groups of 20 in about 10 seconds, how to prevent it, or whether it is something to be lived with.
Can anyone, especially someone from the NTdebugging team, a/k/a Global Escalation Services (GES), address this?

By the way, in other Windows, I like to keep my desktop quiet and calm. I don't recall knowing how to do that in 10, but maybe I made it too quiet some months back?

For about a year I have been receiving on boot-up the message "Windows could not start driver configuration service". I may(and stress may) have inadvertently erased that service by accident. I cleaned up a lot of file about a year ago and I think I started getting this message right after that. Now my system is getting unstable and give me the BSOD quite abit. Is there anything I can do like copying the service from my other Window7 box? Any advice is appreciated.

Answer:Keep Receiving "Windows could not start driver config service" on boot

Please take a picture of the error message and attach it using Manage Attachments button in reply box.

Is it possible you have the wording incorrect. It needs to be verbatim.

Then run SFC /SCANNOW Command to check System file integrity.

Next Restore Default Services in Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums

Hi all.

My pc has been hanging randomly and I have to use the power button to shut down/restart.

I've checked in events and there is this error which seems to be causing the problem as the time matches with the hang time.

I posted another topic with another bsod issue in the bsod section, and I was told to run some tests.

A day or so ago, I tried and changed Driver Verifier settings as were instructed in one of the threads here which also mentions that it is an iffy thing to do.

Anyway, I lost windows and could not start again, luckily I had a backup made, and after formatting my HD, loaded it on to it. This error seems to be a driver issue (Screenshot).

Should I go down the Driver Verifier route again ? To be honest I don't want to. If I lose windows again it would be very frustrating.

I've run the following tests so far here

I have no driver issues showing up in Device Manager, so that looks ok.

Please advise. Thank you.

Answer:The following system start driver(s) failed to load: mbmiodrvr

I looked around and found a reference to Mother Board Monitor which at least sounds like it might be the culprit.

Do you have that application installed, or some other temperature / fan speed monitoring sw?

Alex Van Kaam, the author of Mother Board Monitor, stopped development in 2004 citing his frustration getting technical information from mfgrs.

Anyway, if you have Mother Board Monitor installed, remove it. If you have other monitoring sw, post what you have and someone might know more about that sw (MBM source used?)

If you haven't tried a Clean Boot, here's a tutorial you can follow:

It was working fine yesterday, but this morning it never got past the Win7 logo on a black screen (usually it boots in 20 seconds or so). I swapped the SSD boot disk with the SATA disk it had replaced in 2013, and this boots up fine. (I tried booting from the Win7 DVD when the SSD was still plugged in: system restore had no available restore points, startup repair failed to fix the problem.)

I've now got the SSD plugged into a USB3 port on a spare laptop, and can browse the contents of the disk. Looking into this error it seems it can be caused by a corrupt BCD hive, but I don't know how to fix this.

Is it possible to repair a Windows installation if it's on what is now an external disk? Do I have to boot from the DVD to do this? (Currently I'm working on the spare laptop which the SSD is plugged into, and the broken machine has booted into its old copy of Windows on the old SATA disk, but obviously everything's nearly two years out of date, so I'd rather get the SSD version back on its feet if possible!)

Greetings all, tearing my hair out over this. I normally use google-fu to solve stuff but after a few hours I'm still stymied on this one.

My brother handed me this laptop that he had upgraded to Win10 (probably in the hopes it would magically fix longstanding problems he'd been having with it). It's x64, for the record.

I'm sure it's had malware infections in the past. I don't believe it currently does though--ran Malwarebytes and looked myself in msconfig and I don't see anything untoward.

But I think a previous malware infestation screwed up the BITS service to the point now where it will not start. I didn't notice this until I tried to run Windows update. No matter what I do I can't get it to install KB3081448 (well it won't even download it). Windows update fails with "There were problems installing some updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help:

"Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3081448) - Error 0x80246008"

That's what led me to check the status of the BITS service. It's set to Automatic but is stopped. When I try to start it I get:

"Windows could not start the Background Intelligent Transfer Service on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor. and refer to service-specific-error code -2147024894."

I'm posting this in the Vista forum because this has never happened with Windows 2000 or XP.

I bought two exact duplicate models of hard disks. I set up Vista Ultimate on one of my systems. I used Acronis True Image 10 to clone the operating disk to the factory-new, never-used, same model disk as a backup drive in the event the first disk failed. I put in the clone to be sure it runs; but, I get the error mentioned in the title of this thread.

Now, if the second disk is supposed to be a clone of the first, why does this happen and how can I fix it?

I'm not married to Acronis for this job so I would use any disk cloning tool that makes a sector-for-sector copy. I use Norton Ghost 2003 for making sector-for-sector raw image (forensic) copies of PATA drives; but, these are SATA drives and Ghost 2003 simply sits there like Tarbaby and he don't say nuttin' to no SATA drive.

I've been experiencing multiple bluescreens daily and what's odd about them is they occur randomly while using many programs; however, I have noticed that they occur more frequently directly after opening a new tab, loading a new site or running a game (StarCraft II).
Looking through Event Viewer. I see a list of warnings and errors immediately prior to the BSOD. In chronological order:

9:07:18 PM CRITICAL- "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

9:07:28 PM WARNING- "The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device USB\VID_0483&PID_2016\5&249af6f9&0&2."

9:07:42 PM ERROR- "The previous system shutdown at 9:05:49 PM on ‎7/‎13/‎2011 was unexpected."

9:07:44 PM ERROR- "The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000000a (0x0000099e0000007e, 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000001, 0xfffff80002a92885). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 071311-32869-01."

9:07:47 PM ERROR- "Audit events have been dropped by the transport. 0"

I also get this warning quite often:
"The maximum file size for session "ReadyBoot" has been reached. As a result, events might be lost (not logged) to file "C:\Windows\Prefetch\ReadyBoot\ReadyBoot.etl". The maximum files size is currently set to 20971520 ... Read more

Hello,

Can someone please help me find out what driver or service 'ksop' is? Or, how to fix it?

I've been troubleshooting my Windows 7 laptop to try and find the cause of random, sudden shutdowns and a bunch of 7026 and 7001 errors. This 'ksop' error pops up every time I reboot.

I tried clean-booting, SFC, CHKDSK, etc, but I can't narrow down a service as the culprit. I tried Googling 'ksop' but I couldn't find anything that explained what it was, or a record of anyone else asking about this issue.

Anyone out there have any idea?

Here's the event info:

Answer:Event ID 7026: 'ksop' driver failed to load?

So far all I've been able to find out is that 'KSop' is a pool tag, and it's associated with something related to Windows 7. I still don't know what driver it's for, how to find out, or how to fix.

If anyone has any ideas, clues, or suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated. Please, I'm at my wit's end!

Mods, if you feel that this thread is more of a "Windows" issue, please feel free to move this thread.

Here last year I did my second build because I was having "boot" issues. Wasn't certain what exactly the problem was at the time. But something some how screwed up the boot sequence in my system, and where everything was pretty much "outdated." I just went ahead and did another build.

Though, since then I've been pondering around with the thought of using a SATA to IDE adapter so that I can retrieve what ever salvageable data I can from one of the two HDD's that was in my last build. So I finally broke down and ordered a couple different one's earlier this week.

Unfortunately, I've been running in to some problem(s) when I try to launch with the IDE in place.

Upon initial launching, the boot sequence seem to take some time longer than it normally does with out the IDE HDD in place. Though after a 15-20sec lapse I'll get an error screen displaying an windows error code of "0xc000000e" with a prompt message below stating "The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible"

I searched all over online to see what that error code represents, only to get "pages after pages" of sites with each site telling me something different.

I have no intentions of using this as a third HDD in my system. I just want to retrieve select data from it.

Hi

When I right click My Computer on Vista Start menu the page says "The page failed to load"

I enclose a screenshot of the error.

I was also get "the application has failed to start because WINBRAND.dll was not found" when running

SystemPropertiesAdvanced

From RUN

This has now been fixed by downloading WINBRAND.dll and copying it to c:\windows\system32

But "The page failed to load" still happens when right clicking My Computer and choosing properties.

I did a SFC / Scannow and something weird happened. The Command Window had an error (apologies - forgot to note which but will rerun in a moment) however the CBS Log File showed no errors and indicated SFC ran successfully.

I will post the results of SFC in a few moments

Thanks for your help.

Guys,

Please review this issue for me as I need the answer for my references. This sometimes applies to setting up a new Internet Connection in Win 95 or 98. Let's say, that you have set up a new Internet Connection with new ISP path settings. Your asked to do a system restart, you do a restart and all is well until you get to a second screen in the bios that either says:

"Ethernet Adaptor failed to load press any key to retry" OR

"Ethernet driver failed to load press any key to retry"

I can't remember what the message says, but it's one or the other! after the word "Driver" or "Adaptor" it gives the driver name. You CAN however still get into Windows by pressing any key....But, the message will come up until you remove the driver.

I vaguely remember that to remove this message you go under Device Manager, under "Networking" and remove a device that has an exclamation point under it (This removes the network driver that doesn't load) But what does this message mean and how does it happen to get there in the first place? I know that it happens when setting up a new Internet Connection sometimes, but I need to know the exact steps for removing the driver because I might be changing ISP's in the future, and need to know what to do if this message comes up again! Thanks!

Jack

Answer:What Does "Ethernet Driver Failed To Load" Mean?

i think the message means that the driver is corrupted/not responding

why it happens, i dont know, but if u are installing a separate software to connect to your isp, this software might be the problem

the proper way of removing the driver is to delete it from device manager

Got "Page Failed to Load" error attempting to change my Win7-64bit display resolution.
This used to work, but no more ( don't know what might have caused it)

I ran "sfc /scannow". SFC reported that there were corrupted files that could not be repaired or replaced and to look at CBS.log. I did but can make no sense out of it.

Please find that file attached -- Any help will be appreciated.....

thank you,
Chuck

Answer:"Page Failed to Load" error attempting to change my Win7-64bit display

Run the system file check again. Sometimes it requires multiple runs. Reboot after each run (or before the first run if you have not rebooted since the last time you ran the check).Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker up to three times to fix all errors with a restart in between each. Post back if it continues to show errors after a fourth run or if the first run comes back with no integrity violations. Use OPTION THREE of SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker to provide us with the sfcdetails.txt file if errors occur.

I am getting the error "Failed to load resources from resource file. Please check your Setup" This happens every time I try to access a Word document. I am using Word 2003 from the Small business pkg.

I searched on their site and there was a download for those who use the Outlook business contact manager also, which I do. I downloaded the file, when to install it and it says it is already there.

I am running Windows 2000, this just started today and my updates are up to date.

Any ideas? I can ignore the warning and work, if I click OK or the X, it shuts down Word.

Thanks!

Several of our Windows 7 Enterprise PCs have been coming in with the following message at boot:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
Click "repair your computer."
If you don't have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

Status: 0xc000000e
Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.
I know how to repair the PCs.
What I need to know is how to find out what is causing this? Better if you can point to a smoking gun that is currently causing this.
We want to get ahead of this as we have many traveling users and have now been burned by having the issue happen while they were traveling. We have also been seeing a couple return customers for the repair.
Any help or guidance on finding the answer is much appreciated.

Too add some background I finished building my PC two days ago, the 17th of Jan so I wonder why it still needed updates after first booting . The problem is that a couple minutes after I got the some notifications for a windows update saying it is a needed update so I decided I would let it update the first time also I believe some updates from 2013 and 2014 were included among them. The first time I try the update it seems to be successful until at 99% of the update completion the screen went black, automatically restarted the system with the MSI bios options then went straight to a "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause." prompt at the top with the Recovery option and the start windows normally option. Obviously starting the windows normally didn't work, so I tried the recovery option of automatically "repairing" which didn't properly work for some reason, even though it allowed me to access my account again some files were deleted like Uplay and Steam and some of my games though it left the desktop shortcuts. I thought hey, maybe it would work a second time so I let it update again and BOOM the same problem again. I googled other solutions beside the "automatic repair" option so I tried pressing all of F8-F12 and none of them showed me to the advance boot options menu, so I decided to go with the recovery options again and then again it deleted my redownloaded Uplay and Steam and then some documents I ... Hi all. Earlier today I was playing around with Windows 8 Developer Preview inside of Virtualbox. I tried to install the VB guest additions (which allows copy-paste between guest and host, as well as other things) and was told to restart the computer. So I restarted the VM and got the new version of the BSOD saying something or other that I cant remember now. After trying to fix it with the recovery tool that came with the Win8 installer, I just chose to reset it because I hadn't really done anything. So I reset it, whoopdie-doo, and kept messing around with it. After a while I got bored of the ugly Metro UI and went back to Windows 7 ( I just closed the VM).

Now that I've bored you enough with background info, here's my problem. I reboot my laptop and I can't boot... "Windows has failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix this problem: <instructions in how to use the recovery disc to repair the computer>. If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. So, I whip out my handy-dandy thumb drive that can boot into live Kubuntu, Fedora, GParted, and the Windows 7 x64 recovery disk. I've used the recovery disk before to fix my MBR a while back and it worked perfectly. So I assumed it would do its thing now.... right? Wrong. It searches for Windows inst... Read more

Answer:"Windows failed to start..." Recovery disk is unable to recover Win.

Nevermind! I fixed it!

The recovery disk I had on my thumb drive just didn't want to put as much effort into it as recovery disk I burned to a CD a while ago (I downloaded the ISO for the recovery CD from NeoSmart while they still hosted them for free, but I downloaded the ISO on my USB from some other website I can't remember). While doing some housecleaning (it's pretty sad to see me do such a thing- I'm either really stressed or really happy whenever I house clean) I found an old Windows 7 x64 recovery CD that I had downloaded from NeoSmart.com before they stopped hosting it in favor of some paid service. I decided to give it a go, and it worked! In the third paragraph of my original post, I said that the Recovery Disk on my thumb drive told me "Failed to Save Startup Options", but with the Recovery Disk I burned to the CD, it told me to reboot my PC and (after waiting about 10 minutes for the System Restore to check and double check itself, and then reboot again) I'm back in Windows 7!

Well I thought it would all be easy once I had found the software to try a program, but as with many other things it appears not.
My PC is running W7 Pro 64bit with a single drive in two partitions (C: contains the OS and all software; D: is small and used only for some storage) there is also the obligatory hidden recovery partition set up by W7 on installation. For security I use the MS firewall, Microsoft Security Essentials, Spybot S&D (Teatimer off) and Spyware Blaster.
I have not tried or used Try&Decide (or any other ATI utility) to date but have a bit of software I should like to try out. As a result I attempted to start the utility today but all I get is the title message ("Failed to Start Try&Decide") at all attempts. I have looked in various places for further information as to the cause to no avail and there is nothing in the Help file to assist me, I have found nothing on the Acronis forums and my one month support expired in March - unused!!
Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem, please?
With thanks in anticipation.

Answer:Acronis True Image "Failed to Start Try&Decide"

One solution appears be by resetting all ATI settings to default and then try again.

Dependency service failed to start?
A few days ago my computer inexplicably lost its ability to connect to the internet. I am running Windows Vista Business. It is a laptop with both a LAN cable connection to my router and a wireless connection, neither are currently functioning. When attempting to connect to any network I receive the error message: "The dependency service or group failed to start."

When I click "Diagnose and repair" on the network button I get the following message: "Network Diagnostics cannot run because the Diagnostics Policy Service is not running" at which point I open up the Service Control Manager to start the DPS service. However, the service refuses to start and I get yet another error message: "Error 1114: A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed"

Any help will be appreciated in this matter

I am unable to install iTunes on Windows 7 on a Dell Optiplex 780. It always errors out as "apple mobile device service failed to start" and then installation always rolls back. One result told me to remove all apple software on my computer, but I do not have any apple software installed, it always fails to install. a few websites mentioned to make sure that my iPod is not plugged into the computer when installing, I unplugged it, it made no difference. and there were websites telling me to just manually start the service, but every time I try I get a "unable to start service. the service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion" which pops up immediately. I also tried doing an SFC /scannow but it says "there are no integrity violations"

I am at a loss here. I even tried various alternatives to iTunes which all give errors of their own

Any ideas?

Hello mate now I don't have a an answer but my partner has a very similar problem on her laptop - an annoying message t say that Apple Push has stopped.

It did get a little better by running these
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Disk Check < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2 by better I mean it got less frequent.

To be honest I am not an Apple fan and it seems to me it clutters everything up

In the tray at the bottom right of the screen where the wireless signal strength indicator thingy sits I now have a blue circle. Sometimes I get an orange star where there used to be a white histogram.

The computer still connects to the Internet but if I right click on the icon the icon will change to a plug and a red cross.

If I open Network and Sharing Centre I see the message in the title to this post.

As I type I now have "Not connected - Connections are available" in a box above the tray but I AM still connected.

I'm really beginning to hate Windows 7.

Does anyone know of a simple fix? I'd appreciate help as this is driving me nuts!

Yesterday I started having problems with my Windows 7 Professional 64-bit desktop machine. Here's the sequence of events I would encounter:

I would start the computer, logon normally, and about 3 minutes after I logged on my video would go black, monitor lights blinking like there was no signal, but the power to the system was still running. Each time I rebooted into normal Windows boot, the system would result in the same error.

I tried re-seating all my components to no avail. I also tried unhooking one component at a time, to no avail.

I started trying to diagnose the issue. Event Viewer logs provided nothing except for some generic error codes which I reviewed on EventID.net. I found that booting into Safe Mode worked fine. I found that doing a Clean Boot would result in the error. I found that doing a selective startup with Windows Services only would result in an error. I found that booting with Diagnostic Services only would result in an error.

I tried using a Windows 7 repair disc to repair my install and that didn't work. When I tried to do a full re-install over my existing install, my computer wouldn't stay on long enough for everything to finish.

Finally at 9:30pm last night the system stayed on with a normal windows boot with all services running (with the cd-rom unplugged; I don't think this actually had any impact) for a few hours before I went to sleep. I left the computer on overnight to see if it would last.

This morning when I woke up at... Read more

Answer:Black Screen upon Win7 logon, now result in "Windows Failed to Start"

Since the error did not occur in SafeMode where Win uses a generic low-res 600x800 video driver, but occurred in Clean Boot mode, where your hi-res installed video driver is used, I would guess the problem is a corrupted video/graphics driver. You might try looking for the latest vid driver from the manufacturer website, of your particular machine.

Hi, first post.

I can't follow the guidelines and put any information from the BSOD, because I can't boot my computer. However, I've taken a picture of the blue screen, if that's of any help.

Picture: http://i.imgur.com/faUQAZs.jpg

This is the process up till the BSOD:
1. Turn on computer
2. "Windows failed to start"
3. I can then a) "Start windows normally" or b) "Launch startup repair (recommended)"
4. a) just reboots the PC into the same state
5. b) results in a BSOD seconds after. It's stays until I turn off computer,
6. The BSOD again: http://i.imgur.com/faUQAZs.jpg

Things I've tried:
1. Booting into safe mode (and any of the other fancy options after pressing F8). This is NOT possible. I press an option, and I see a BSOD for 0,1 second, and the PC reboots.
2. Booting from recovery disk. I enter BIOS and change booting order = it detects the disc, starts to "load windows files" = but goes into BSOD seconds after.

What is definitely causing this:
My Samsung 840 SSD. I've tried replacing it with my old WD 640gb hard disk, and the computer boots just fine.
HOWEVER, it has worked fine since I installed it in September 2013. I WANT TO STRESS: It has worked fine, with out ANY issues since September 2013 up until now.

Nothing strange has happened lately; no new software, no new hardware.. nothing. It was a little overheating a few days ago, because it didn't turn off correctly and I put it in my PC shoulder bag... Read more

Answer:Turn on PC - "Windows failed to start" - Launch startup repair - BSOD!

The Bugcheck code of 50 suggests a memory problem, but I have seen something similar on the same Samsung 840 EVO SSD that I solved by power-cycling the SSD. To do that, follow these steps:

1. Power off laptop, unplug power lead, and remove battery.
2. Press and hold down the on/off button for 30 seconds, then release
3. Open the laptop and disconnect the SSD
4. Press and hold the on/off button for another 30 seconds, then release
5. Reconnect SSD, close-up the laptop, reinsert battery, reconnect power lead.
6. Boot as normal

Report back if it helps or not.

Okay....

I have a laptop running Windows 7 64bit. It was working fine up until a week ago when it started to display "The dependency service or group failed to start" when I was trying to connect to a network. I have seen a lot of threads and tried a lot of things and nothing has worked. Also (not sure if this ties in) but I can't start the DHCP service "Error 5 access denied" will list what I have tried with that below as well.

NOTE: All commands and regedits were ran with elevated rights as Admin.

List of things I've tried and it hasn't worked:
sfc /scannow - tried 3 times with numerous restarts. Completes to 100% and says that no corrupted files were found.
Nestsh winsock reset & netsh int ip reset commands numerous times
Give full rights for "SERVICE" to the reg - HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/services/Dhcp.
Also tried to start all the dependencies that the DHCP service relies on and they were all ready started.
Probably a few more things I've tried but can't remember. All of the above are steps that I have tried and nothing has worked. Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks,

Answer:"The dependancy service or group failed to start"

Click Start, on search box, and then type devmgmt.msc press enter. From Device Manager, locate the Network Adapters, expand it. Do you see any ! on one of the network adaptors?

From the troublesome computer verify that all your network services are Started from Control Panel=> Admin Tools=> Services: or run box type services.msc to open Windows services.
• COM+ Event System (for WZC issues)
• Computer Browser
• DHCP Client
• DNS Client
• Network Connections
• Network Location Awareness
• Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
• Server
• TCP/IP Netbios helper
• Wireless Zero Configuration ( XP wireless configurations only)
• WLAN AutoConfig ( Vista wireless configurations only)
• Workstation

make sure they are all working and not set to disabled although it looks like you already checked that and were denied access to the DHCP service?

This problem is common but with many different solutions and can be a real PITA to fix depending on what caused it in the first place.

Have you tried using system restore?

I think a .DLL is missing on the computer I am running this program on. Any suggestions? It worked in the past and they recently changed computers.

My home computer which is loaded with pics and tunes but with PLENTY of hard drive space free (2/3) has the message "This application has failed to start because DNSAPI.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem."

I cannot get to the desktop to download anything. I cannot seem to get a c: prompt even when I hit tab or F1. Perhaps there is another way to get to the c: prompt? I referred to a previous '06 thread on this problem with no joy.

I tried the repair on my XP disc and it stopped the repair saying it could not find the DNSAPI.dll . So tried it again and no go. I still do not know why in the world this previously smooth operating with barely used harddrive suddenly got this problem

All I get is the same thing over and over.

I am currently on my laptop typing this. Is there a file I can download to this desktop on my laptop that I can then copy to my thumbdrive? AND, or BUT once I put it on my thumbdrive how do I get it onto my problem computer unless I get a prompt? Once I get a prompt what do I type in to pull that file over into the computer to fix the problem? I guess getting to a prompt would be a start. Then I need the fix. Then getting the fix into my problem computer. I am a novice, but I cannot tell my daughter that I will lose all her precious pics from the past 8 months due to having to re-install XP. I hope all this rambling makes sense. I would greatly appreciate any step by step help. Please remember, the problem... Read more

I have a friend's Win XP Home SP2 machine here & whenever the Start Menu or Taskmgr are run, the screen blanks out & the "Application failed to initialize" message appears. The Firefox start page is also hijacked (My Search by Incredimail appears even aftertrying to fix) --- entering about:config in the address box & "Filter" Keyword.URL as described in an older post for "Application Error"
I read some of the older threads so after I ran HiJackthis & copied the logfile, I D/L "ATF-Cleaner" & "SuperAntiSpyware - Free Edition" and ran both. I will be including the HiJackThis logfile after running these 2 utilities.

I installed and uninstalled fruity loops (cause it wasnt working properly) and everything started going to shit. Im using XP Pro.

When i open internet explorer i get a "failed to load resource DLL" error message. When i click ok the program opens normally. This also happens when i right click on objects on my desktop.

I did a couple of virus scans and came up clean but when i tried to run auto update for norton it said i uninstalled it....which i didn't.

It also wouldn't let me play mp3s with windows media player, when i re-installed it it fixed that problem.

Anyone have any ideas what's causing this? Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:"failed to load resource DLL" error

Did fruit loops have a uninstaller?
.If so did you uninstall this way,
or did you uninstall through add/remove

I get the above error message whenever I right click on a drive, file or folder. The dll is not specified. Google search came up with two other pleas for help regarding this error, neither of which was apparently resolved.
Upon clicking OK, Windows XP Home lets me perform the task ; move, delete, rename, properties or whatever.

Can anyone help me get rid of this annoyance?

Answer:"fAILED TO LOAD RESOURCE DLL" error

whush, first welcome to MG. I had a long reply typed out earlier, but lost it somehow. Trying again. Go to Start--->Run. Type in SFC and then <enter>. You MUST have your Windows Operating system CD loaded for maximum results. SFC (System File Checker) will check out all files required to run Windows and ask for various answers (courses of action from you) to the problems it finds, Read and re-read the courses of action carefully. Answer "ignore" first time round, if you are not sure of the correct answer. Proceed slowly, with a clear head and no sources of interruption. This may clear your problem, but will certainly help in other areas, at least. Bazza

PS I use W98SE, not XP, so there may be slight differences. Baz

Hi, I think this problem was caused by a forced shutdown ( I left it with a auto shutdown program, and when i come back to turn it on, i get this!) ( The shutdown program has never caused this problem before though )

So this is the choice page:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3158/...9bb4327d_o.jpg

I've tried both and neither work, they cant get past the load bar.
I have put the disc in ( Windows x64 Business ) and attempted a repair, which didnt work. I attempted a system restore to a few days ago and still the same problem.

I do however get these two screens which pop up for a split second before the above screen, my camera managed to capture them!

This one first:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3020/...c61e7f73_o.jpg
Then this:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3209/...0d08fdf0_o.jpg

I havent changed or installed any new programs or drivers.
Im running a 2.4ghz quad, 2gb of OCZ ram, geforce 260 GPU, and the OS is installed on a new HD

It was all running wonderfully, and now nothing

Please please help!

Hi Aeon7944, Welcome to the vista Forums

Looks like the vista bootloader is corrupted.

have you tried the F8 key when at the menu and either the Last Known Good or the Safe Mode option?

another thing to try is a start-up repair from the Vista DVD

I have Vista Home Premium on my Dell 1525 Inspiron laptop. I logged off yesterday with the little Windows icon telling me it would install updates before logging off so keep the power on, etc. I did that.

I came back later and attempted to turn the computer on and I got a black DOS-type screen with "Windows Error Recovery" at the top and the msg, "Windows failed to start...", etc. I tried to Launch the repair tool, but got nowhere.

I chatted online for 2 hrs. with Microsoft and also got nowhere except to be told that I wil have to reinstall my software - meaning I will lose everything on my HD (this was confirmed by Dell). The drive retrieval company Dell recommended will wipe out my bank account to "try" to recover my files. (I have since turned the automatic updates OFF on my other computers!)

Please help!
Thanks!

Hello,

I have here a Lenovo Thinkpad, windows 7 and cannot access the rest of the information.

None the less. I was using the computer last night. woke up and opened it up and this recovery manager was running stating "it may restart several times as we try to find the error" etc. that has run several times with no luck. I went to advanced options and tried to restore to an earlier date. no luck.

tried starting in safe mode. no luck.

if I start windows "manually" it just starts over does a "physical memory dump" and goes back to wanting me to run the diagnostic which yields nothing.

I unplugged the battery and power and it looked promising and did go to the start windows screen that looked normal but then went back to the craziness. I do have the startup repair page open and this is what it says

Problem signature:
problem event name: start up repair offline
problem sig 01: 6.1.7600.16385
sig 02: 6.1.7600.16385
03: unknown
04: 21200491
05: autofailover
06: 9
07: 0x50
OS Version : 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1
Locale ID: 1033

not sure if that gives anything usable

. this just happened out of the blue. it is a school computer given to me so I can take it to them and they can probably fix it up but I have a bunch of project and assignment files and want to get this working so I can work on those again.

any help would be great. those files may be lost but thought I would post anyway.

Answer:"windows failed to start" message.

It sounds like the HDD might have failed. You can use an Ubuntu Live CD to boot the computer and retrieve your files to a USB HDD. I then would bring it into School and have them fix it.

Hey everyone, just tried upgrading my HP Pavilion G6T's RAM, and Windows refuses to start now. The laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, and currently has 4GB, so I went to Crucial.com to get 8GB, used their scanner tool, which recommended this memory to me.

Part Number: CT3326415

Module Size: 8GB Kit (4GBx2)
Package: 204-pin SODIMM
Feature: DDR3 PC3-10600
Specs: DDR3 PC3-10600 ? CL=9 ? Unbuffered ? NON-ECC ? DDR3-1333 ? 1.35V ? 512Meg x 64 ?

All the numbers seemed to match up, so I bought it. Said "Guaranteed Compatible" too. :confused

Here's the scan results as well:

http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/viewscanbyid.aspx?id=4C62335431D926C3

After a bunch of failed attempts, I just threw my old RAM in, and after a Startup Repair, the laptop loaded up fine.

Any ideas as to what happened or how I can successfully upgrade the RAM?

Answer:"Windows Failed to Start" after upgrading RAM?

To be clear you've upgraded from one module of 4gb to 12gb total, or just one 4gb stick of crucial for 8gb total?

Have to tried just one 4gb module of the corsair memory in the slot your old memory was? Does it work? If not disconnect from the AC,press power button to drain remaining power then locate a small coin shaped battery and remove for 20 secs then replace, reconnect AC and try to boot with just one stick of crucial in dimm 0, then try the same stick in all the other slots.

If you have your motherboard manual handy it will list where a single stick of memory should be inserted, usually any will do.

Can you post he name of your computer make and model, if it's custom built post the model of your motherboard, also on the side of your old memory will be a sticker can you post all the information from that also, if there's no sticker read the info from the side of ne of the chips

Hey guys, I have a Sony VAIO laptop and about a week ago it started to have issues booting. After turning on the laptop, it would go straight into a screen that says "Your VAIO failed to start windows" and would give me options to "start troubleshooting (recovery)", "start BIOS setup", and "start VAIO Care (rescue mode)". Unfortunately, none of these options nor tinkering with any of them helped at all. However, there are rare occasions that it may start up successfully, but will proceed to crash or freeze shortly after. I have no idea how to fix this issue, and I can only assume that my windows software has been bugged somehow. I don't own a Windows disc so I can't re-install it unfortunately. Please consider, thanks!

Answer:"Your VAIO failed to start windows"

did win8 come with your computer? or was it an upgrade.

Hardware/software: 400w power supply, asus p4s533, crucial 512 mb ddr 2100 ram, intel p4 2.0a , nvidia 128mb ti4200, soundblaster audigy, western digital 80 gb hdd, liteon cdr, xp pro.

Computer previously worked. On boot, monitor appears to receive no signal, and the asus talkback/speach report feature loops the phrase "system failed memory test". What are possible sources for this problem?

I havent had a chance to troubleshoot it yet, but find it suprising i received that error because I've ran and passed memtest many times in the last few m onths, although i guess its posssible it somehow croaked last 2 or 3 weeks sometime? Last time it was on Comp was acting weird. IE Explorer windows would keep hanging, and when i minimized programs the image stayed up on screen even after ctrl alt del to end them. I updated anti virus and full scan that passed fine so i turned off computer, and woke up to this, ironicly also friday the 13th lol.

Answer:on boot, no monitor signal, "system failed memory test"

I would start with the following:
[NOTE:] When clearing CMOS, remove power, and press power button to discharge motherboard.

1) Clear CMOS. If it boots, then go into CMOS and load setup defaults
2) Remove all cables and extra PCI cards. Only run Power Sup., Vid card, Proc., Memory, MoBo. Clear CMOS. If powers, add one card/cable at a time and see where it stops. If it doesn't power, proceed to step 3.
3) Place the mem. chip in another slot. Test. If more than one stick, try one at a time in different slots.
4) Try different Vid card.
5) Try separate power supply
6) Check Proc. (Too much thermal grease, smoke smell, cracked edges)
7) Remove MoBo from case. Look for burn marks. If you know what you are doing, try running step 2 without the case to see if it posts.

Did I miss anything? Please add if you think of anything.
