Running slow, won't install Office 2010, always runs checkdisk

Question: Running slow, won't install Office 2010, always runs checkdisk

I'm having several issues with my windows 7 PC. I've been trying to install a legit copy of Office 2010 from a genuine CD and it won't allow me, suggesting I don't have admin rights (I am the administrator). I was upgrading from Office 2007 and it screwed that up. I've uninstalled all existing versions of Office and it's still not letting me install.

The PC is generally very slow and laggy, and every time I start up it tells me something is wrong and runs check disk. I've done an FRST scan and posted the log below (not sure if this is relevant, I'll perform other scans if anyone can tell me what I need to do). Can anyone tell me what's wrong with the PC and how to fix it? Obviously I'd rather avoid formatting and starting again, although all my files are backed up... it's a pain to reinstall everything.

Preferred Solution: Running slow, won't install Office 2010, always runs checkdisk

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Running slow, won't install Office 2010, always runs checkdisk

Update: am now getting this message upon booting: Sec Slave Hard Disk S.M.A.R.T. Status BAD, Backup and Replace.

Apparently this means my hard disk is about to die, so I guess there's nothing anyone can do to help!

Just started using a new workstation with Office 2010 installed by OEM. Everything worked fine for a few days, and then every time i attempt to open a Word file or Excel file i get the MS Office dialog box that states "please wait while windows configures Microsoft Office 2010". The dialog box stays visible for 30-45 seconds and then the program opens and works fine.

Ran a repair, four times, didn't fix it.

All of my research leads me to a solution of uninstalling and re-installing. I'm not buying that if everything worked fine for several days, that a bad install will make the program stop functioning properly.

I also noticed, while visiting help within outlook, that the product was still a trial version and not currently activated. I have entered the activation code numerous times with no luck.

Any suggestions? This is becoming extremely inefficient.

Answer:Office 2010 runs product configuration when opening Word and Excel

Right click the Word or Excel icon and select Run as administrator.
This should allow the proper configuration to be written to the system and you should not have to do it again.

Hi, I have just resurrected a Dell Latitude D620 that I haven't used for 2 years and wonder if anyone can help me with 2 challenges?
1. The death march...: I replaced Windows XP with Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) - not an upgrade - and then installed all the updates, via Windows Update and also added SECUNIA to make sure - which says everything is updated.
Then I had to remove a file - 'Windows.old' - after the install as it took up most of the H/D.
Everything works well sometimes only - but then far too often everything suddenly runs VERY SLOWLY... taking a very long time to load programs and occasionally 'not responding' for a while, before working.
The H/D seems to often be running very fast in the background. Although the Processes shown running in Task Manager are minimal, the Process Monitor shows that the RAM is always at around 78% (with 110 faults?) and the drive running between 50 - 100%?
The H/D has 55GB Free of 75GB and with 1.00GB RAM.
This can last for a long or short time - and then suddenly for no apparent reason, everything works well and fast????
Maybe the install didn't remove all the XP and other stuff????
I have no idea what to do - and am surprised as this laptop is a workhorse and has always been excellent - Didn't have these problems with XP SP3 before?
2. Office Install: I then installed Office Small Business Edition 2003 back on to the (same) laptop using my original disk and Key.
That went fine until I opened WORD... I was then a... Read more

Hi fred93 The documents you created with Office programs aren't related to it. You can simply uninstall Microsoft Office 2003, and install Office 2010 and you'll be able to use them again. Simple as that.

My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate, I use Outlook 2010. Problem is with outlook is i get alot of not responding messages, Freezes and out of no where shuts itself down and restarts. Can anyone please help me with this. I've spent money online for help in this matter and nobody can seem to help me on this.

Answer:outlook 2010 runs slow

Could you fill in the specs of your computer? You can use HWInfo32 from HWiNFO & HWiNFO32 - Hardware Information and Analysis Tools and also get some basic information by going to the Control Panel and clicking on System.

As far as the freezing and shutting itself down, I'm assuming it's crashing. If so, does it give you a particular error before doing so or does an event occur before it crashes or does it just outright crash? Any more details you can provide would be quite useful.

My beta expired so I uninstalled the beta. I restarted and tried to install the trial but I get this error.

Quote:
Error 25004. The product key you entered cannot be used on this machine. This is most likely due to previous Office 2010 trials being installed. (System error: -1073418160)

I read then that I was to delete the following reg entries

Quote:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office

Problem is the bottom entry is not deleteable. If I try to delete it or a subfolder or the key I get

Quote:
Cannot delete office: Error while deleting key.

I tried deleting the key in safemode or by altering the permissions of it and running regedit in admin mode but nothing worked. I'm running win 7 x64.

I would greatly appreciate any help so I can clean this and install the office 2010 trial.

Hello everyone and thanks ahead of time.

This all started happening after recieveing a DOA Corsair HX650W Modular PSU. (was only puttin out 10.6V on the +12V Rail.) So I got a unit Cross-shipped and got everything put back together and Windows thinks it needs to run a Check disc at startup, but the funny thing is that it's not even being ran on my 160GB drive, it's being ran on my 1TB drive that I use for storage and backups, Any ideas at all?

I'm currently looking for Western Digital's software stuffs for testing purposes.

Hi all. I hope i'm on a correct thread as this is for IdeaPad S serier netbook. Currently on Windows 7 Starter (netbook) that comes preloaded with MS Office Starter 2010. I do have a genuine MS Office 2003 which previous comes with my PC i bought many years ago. I'm wondering can i install it on top of the current MS Office Starter 2010 OR do i need to uninstall the preloaded MS Office Starter 2010 first? What if i would need the MS Office Starter 2010 again next time? I dare not to do it because i worry i will crash all the MS Office apps... Any idea? Thank you...

Answer:Can install lower version of MS Office ontop of the preloaded MS Office Starter 2010?

Relating to the old version.  Do you have an Office cd or is it a part of a restore cd?  If the former you might be in luck, if the latter, probably not. Secondly, you may or may not be able to do what you want.  I would uninstall the starter first then install the older.  Even this you may be in for a problem.  I did a beta of 2010, then installed an older version and it took MS two days over the phone to get things straightened out and they did that by having me restore windows and that only worked for a few months.  in the process of this mess I found dozens of forums filled with people with the same problem I was having. For some reason the first newer install leaves something in the registry that - even though the older one installs right - makes the system think it needs to reinstall one of them and it will go through a long process of configuring etc. As to whether you can reinstall the 2010, again you would have to have a separate cd to do so unless you wanted to restore your entire drive and lose all yoiur stuff plus the older office. Others, my wife included on her computer, have had no problem going from one version to the other. One other fact.  If youi have an older version and install a 2010 version they can install as separate installs and work together or on ours it gave us the option of uninstalling the older portions of office that came on the new office.  (Wife had office pro older version, in... Hi Forum,
I hope this is the right place. My office (mainly power point) run VERY slow.

Cheers

Answer:Office (power point) runs VERY slow...

Hi SwissExcel

Solutions all from the web except last. You may have already tried.

Run Disk Cleanup, File Explorer => Right click on C:, left Click Properties. General tab has Disk Cleanup. You're after Temporary files. You decide whether other types of files should be cleaned up.

Next within Powerpoint
File => Options =>Advance => Display then disable Hardware graphics acceleration.

Next
Windows Key + R, sysdm.cpl, Advance tab, inside Performance box click Settings, deselect "Animate Controls and Elements in Window"

While not specifically related I would take the opportunity to completely shutdown windows by holding down shift key and clicking shutdown. On next boot windows starts fresh. You can research process on Google before trying.

Post back should one fix, it adds to the book of answers.

On a different computer, I had a trial version of Office 365 installed. I purchased Office 2016 and uninstalled the trial 365 and installed Office 2016. However, Office 365 "remnants" mingled in with the Office 2016 installation and it was a mess getting it straightened out. Perhaps some profile type files, registry entries and who knows what else remain after the uninstall and found their way into the new installation.

Is there a way to absolutely remove everything associated with Office 2010 before I install Office 365.

I had the beta installed (32 bit). Now I am installing the 64 bit version. When I ran setup it says that i have to uninstall all 32 bit versions of office. I went to the control panel and tried to uninstall, I select "Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010" and click the "uninstall" button but nothing at all happens. So I downloaded "RevoUninstallerpro" to force the uninstall. I did that, uninstalled everything and all of the regestry files. THen i gave the computer the old restart. Went to install it again but same problem. Here is a screen shot of whats going on.

What is your OS 32 or 64? If 32 you should use 32 office; not mix and match.

My issue is with Microsoft office and how to make it more stable and responsive. My system isn't that [H]ard any more, but should be enough for Word.

16GB DDR 1866
256GB Samsun 830 SSD +3x 3TB HDD
Windows 10 64 edu

Word 2016 with ad-on for Mendeley.
I don't have as much trouble with one chapter, but now with 2 chapters 48 pages, 21k words with hangs a lot.
Of coures I could remove Mendeley but I already have 8 pages of references and would not want to do them by hand.
It can be especially slow now when adding a reference, hanging for half a minute.

Both pieces of software are installed on the SSD and are up to date. What can I do to increase responsiveness without upgrading to a whole new system and adding an M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD?

I can work on a separate file for each chapter but this is not ideal.

I?ve had the 2010 version of Microsoft Office loaded on my PC for some time but haven?t really found the ?ribbon? feature particularly user friendly, especially for Word. Consequently I also loaded my old version of Word 2003 from Office 2003 onto the machine only to find that after using Word 2003 and going back to Word 2010 (which seems to be selected as the default) I get a screen saying-Configuration ProcessConfiguring Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010.This message remain on the screen for approx. 1½ minutes. Is there any way of-? Stopping this screen appearing? Making the 2003 version of Word the default? Thanks.

Answer:Running Word 2003 and Office 2010 on the same PC

Microsoft's recommendation is that you don't install different versions of Office in the same PC. Do you have the original installation disk for Office 2010 from which you might be able to run a repair installation and remove Word 2010?

Dear Users; hello
I have a serious problem with activation "Office 2010 Professional Plus" in windows Seven Ultimate (x32 bit)
I try some step without any successful result.
I found that Activating is possible with KM Service. I try much to run that service but it faild to run correctly.
indeed the service start and stop right after starting. (I attached the window that shown after trying to start KM Service too)

So my doing inclue:
1. Turn Off User access control - > faild to start correctly
2. Run KM Service in safe mode -> // (the same result)
3. change logon for the service (startind mode and user logon) -> //
4. disable office protection service (and software protection) -> //
5. try to run in MS-DOS -> //

sometimes message showed that you doesn't have access... but usually starting the service failed because of this message. I also do the following steps with administrator privilege and disabling Firewall and anti virus.
Because of solving some of my problem in this forum I guess that just Sevem Forum users (Experts) could solve this problem.
So i was wonderring if anyone preffer solution for completing activation and running the service.

I should point that I tast running the sevice in XP service pack3 without and problem!
another problem is any time that i want to run any Office application (like word), configuration window showed, however installation was successful but i tried to fix it by "Repair" from Add/rem... Read more

Answer:Problem With Activation Office 2010 and running KMS

The only KMS arrangement I have used is the one run by my employer, so this may not be relevant, but just in case this helps - you usually need to be logged in to the same network as the one where the KM server resides. For me, this meant connecting by VPN to my work network in order to go through KMS validation successfully. If I don't connect by VPN, the KM server refuses to validate the installation.

Also, KMS systems usually check the installation at intervals (it's not a fix and forget arrangement, the validity of the installed copy of Windows is checked at regular intervals, I think every 180 days), so you need to connect by VPN periodically in order to avoid Windows thinking that it's an invalid installation.

Hope this helps

I recently had to make a sudden move because of medical issues     and so I grabbed my (long unused) laptop to take with me so that I would have a computer handy.  However, it did not have Windows office with "Word" and "excel" so I was unable to open many of my files.   So  I purchased an unused version of Windows office 2010.  But when I try to load it I get the message that:   "to use and install this program you must be running Vista SP1 on x86 or x64 platforms".    Evey attempt that I have made to find out  how to correct this has failed.  Can anyone help me? I am running a 2006 version of vista on a HP dv9000 laptop.Thank you for reading this.

I am getting the following error when I try to reinstall a custom setup office XP install on a windows 2000 machine.

"OFFXP: Setup Detects Office XP Running When You Attempt to Install Office XP"

I had the uninstall the office xp on this machine through add/remove programs because it was crashing alot. The custom install works fine on all other windows 2000 and xp machines.

I found the following error in MS knowledgebase
article 292497 (I can't post the link because I'm a new member)

It says to to hit ignore. If I hit ignore it does install but it doesn't install with the correct options for the custom install. (I have it set to not install outlook and it installs outlook, etc.) Obviously its not following the custom install.

Any ideas? I believe something is left on the pc from office when it was installed. I even ran the Removal Wizard on the Office XP Resource kit. It is supposed to remove everything left from previous versions. However, it must be missing something because I am still getting that error when I try to reinstall Office XP that is described above.

ThankS!

Answer:Computer runs slow and i have 2 explorer.exe files running.

Hi Guy

It seems you did not copy/paste the entire HJT log.
Download and install: HiJackThis 1.99 .

(Always create a Folder for HiJackThis anywhere but your Temp/Temporary Internet Folders or Desktop. A good place to make a folder would be in My Documents, as this is where it will save the backup files needed if there's a problem.)

Then doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Do A System Scan And Save Log". Make sure all Windows and Browsers are closed.
When the scan is finished, best to save your text file in the same folder as where you put HiJackthis.

Create a New Thread in HiJackThis Log Help Forum and Copy/Paste the info from your saved Hijackthis log file into your new topic.

Well, uh I installed a program that gave me a virus despite the red flags that people warned me about (which I didn't notice in till after) and proceedingly may unwanted programs started flooding it's way into my computer. I started running Malwarebytes, but it was closed while the virus spread.

Later I went into safe-mode and ran Malwarebytes again, ran Adwcleaner and SuperAntispyware and they all removed quit a bit of problems. Then I went into normal mode to experince a black screen for a minute, and programs would start up and run slow. Then I did a clean boot and it ran faster on start up, only to become slower over time. Now I am running Malwarebytes again and it claims 0 detected objects and is at the Heuristic Analysis (Well, now it finished and found 0 threats)

Is it a Hard Drive issue i'm facing? Or a well concealed Malware? I'll say now on normal mode my computer acts so slow Task Manager has trouble opening up.  Also a adware named www.searching.com is still on Chrome. I can also provide images of the problem if needed

Current Office Pro 2003 user. Saved .pst files and used registered MS disc to load Office 2007 SB. Sucess except for Outlook with message "The operation failed due to an installation problem. Reinstall Outlook and try again. If problem persists, please reinstall".
Tried all disc options of reinstall, repair, add, etc. to no avail. (Outlook is displayed on Add/Delete with red cross!) Aware MS Technet states "Office Outlook 2007 cannot coexist with previous version of Outlook on the same computer". Removed outlook.exe (2003) but still no advance. Cannot see how to remove Outlook 2003 in totality.
Reason for buying Office 2007 was to try and avoid frequent crashes of Outlook 2003.

Before I delete Office Pro 2003 and try a virgin installation, of Office 2007 SB, your advice, please, Bellini.

Hello,

This is a question about Word 2010. I have created a problem for myself by accidentally DELETING the Word Shortcut from my desktop and from Start / All Programs / Microsoft Office. I had also created a desktop shortcut from these entries under Start. I did this before inadvertently deleting the Work icon from the "folder" under "Start" AND from the mirrored Folder on the desktop which contains an icon for EVERY OTHER Office application except Word.

Where can I go on my system, or elsewhere to find and "object" upon which I can "right-click" to create a Word icon that I can hopefully restore to the above 2 folders and at least one other location?

Thank you,

Askquestions59

Answer:M/S Office: Recover deleted icon for Word 2010 - running Win 7, 64-bit

The executable file for Word is located at the following location:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14

Once under this you can find the executable file named "WINWORD" and this will launch Microsoft Word. To have this as a desktop link you can simply right click it > send to > desktop and then rename the shortcut when it is on your desktop.

Hopefully this is what you were asking for.

Important note: The path is dependent on if you have multiple hard drives and this file will, of course, be under the hard drive you have office 2010 installed on.

My office just upgraded to Microsoft 2010. I have a bunch of macros, all written in with Excel 2007. Some of them take a few minutes to run so I used to take care of email while waiting, but I can't do that. I can open Outlook, but can do nothing in it. Same with Word 2010. This was never a problem with Excel 2007.

I know we have the 64-bit version, as I can no longer use an Add-in I had previously. Don't know if this is an issue.

Here are my basic computer specs:
Microsoft Windows XP [Home Edition]
Version 2002, Service Pack 2
VAIO Computer w/ Intel Pentium M processor 1.73 GHz; 1.00 BG of RAM
Harddrive currently has 22 GB of free space

And my basic problem is that I notice a major lag whenever I try to play any audio or video. The rest of the programs are usually fine, although they sometimes run slow when starting up, or at random moments. It's obvious right away - as soon as i turn on my computer and windows starts up, that tone that the computer plays is very slow and doesn't play through smoothly... kinda skips and glitches out. My start up time is also rather on the slow side. I can play video ok, but it tends to have freezing moments and the audio gets skippy and jumbled and just slows. Depending on what my CPU is 'supposedly' doing the the background, the file can run fine, but then start to slow for a few moments, then catch itself and resume running smoothly again. I notice it is worst with itunes. I tried starting up my pc, not running any programs (once windows was all loaded up and ready) except itunes, then tried to play a song. Boy... was the response time awful. Couldn't even play one song through without the skipping and hesitation. This is just really bothering me. I've tried just about everything I could think of, other than totally reinstalling windows and starting from scratch (major last resort!). Please check my hijackthis log file. I'm really... Hello all,
I have been trying for the last couple of days to re-install an HUP Office 2010 Pro Plus on a new install of Win 7 x64.
I switched from XP where Office worked fine.

When I first tried it I received the error code 1920 (osppsvc).
So, after searching numerous MS help and support sites, and trying various so called fixes,

I'm now getting; Error: 1402 Set Up Can Not Open Registry Key

Hi
After much effort finally uninstalled Office Ultimate 2007 from win 7 x64.
I have been attempting to install RTM Office Pro plus 2010 x86. Everything appears
to install until the end of the scroll installation bar, for some reason my floppy drive is accessed (grunt grunt) and Office installer informs me that a Office Pro plus 2010 encountered a problem during set up and naturally pushing close button confirms the Office has not been installed.
I have tried various compatibility modes as Administrator but no go.
Any advice/assistance would be appreciated.

O K! I need help with Microsoft Office Proffesional Plus 2010 on an xp system. I had this program running fine a couple of weeks ago but then I had to uninstal and then reinstall the program. Now, on the reinstall, I get an error "Microsoft Office Proffesional Plus Encountered an error" and it cannot complete setup, blazee blahh. I have been dealing with this for about 2 weeks now researching and trying different fixes but nothing has worked thus far. I think that there may be an old registry key or something from an older office version that is hanging this install up but I'm not sure. Can you help?

I have downloaded several ISOs from multiple sources but cannot get it to install. I have burned disks using Ashampoo and ImgBurn both but still no love. I have mounted said ISOs using Virtual Clone Drive and still get nada.

I have made AutoPlay active but it does not launch. I have tried kicking off the Setup file and get nothing.

I am sure it is something simple but I am missing it.

I have tried multiple installs all of which have failed at the very last of the installation. I read the stickies above and don't have a problem there. I've done manual cleanup as well as use uninstall which fails to complete. Used msciuu2.exe as well. I am running Office 2010 beta. Using MS uninstall and manually wipe things out the install program writes to the log that there are no upgradeable programs installed which tells me everything is cleaned out. It proceeds in the installation and then fails at the very end. I ran the set up file in adminstrator mode. Right now I am back to an image which has the beta installed and working. I wonder if some other program I have installed is interfering with the installation.

I know that's a mouthful, but this virus is frustrating from what I have been reading on these forums. I am trying to fix a computer for a friend, and have read the solutions on here but haven't been able to resolve them.

Basically can't install anti-malware software even with rename after running rkill(which just makes the screen blink and prompt me to run in safe mode again), I have deleted most of the known files of is2010 and disabled it on startup, but yet am not getting anywhere. Also, the computer I am working on cannot connect to the internet due to this virus.
And for the record, I do have a flash drive and a usable computer to use for files.

I would really appreciate it if someone could guide me in the right path.
Thanks!!!

Same problem, but a little farther along (since I was able to remove the drive and scan while attached as slave to another machine).Lingering problem: No internet connection (although it CAN see my network of other machine). Figured it was a firewall issue, and went researching, and found this site: http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharin...ic_firewall.htmOn my affected machine, this particular box:* Does not have an "Authentification" tab.* Is blank in the lower two-thirds. -- When the top box is clicked, instead of the bottom choices appearing, it simply directs straight to the firewall CP.Essentially, it appears that, when it senses removal tools messing with it, IS2010 sets ICF to be locked "on" and screws with the control-panels.This really is the worst bit of nastiness I've seen in a long time. The sheer amount of effort involved in cleaning up after it is enormously tedious.(XPproSP3)

This only happens on 2 computers, the rest are all fine.

When a user creates a new Microsoft Office document and save it, it takes 30+ seconds to save.
Once the file is created, they can open and edit it and save with no issues, it is just when a new document is created and saved.

The 2 computers it is happening on are Windows 7 pro. The server is 2008 R2. It is a small domain with 10-15 computers. Everything is less than a year old, cabling, switches, sever, computers.
One computer that has this problem was ghosted from the same image as 5 other laptops and none of them have the same issue.
They are running Microsoft Security Essentials.

Anyone see this before?

Answer:Saving new Office 2010 documents very slow.

when does the issue occur?
when saving directly to the server?
saving to the local both?

Hi, I'm so annoyed with Office 2010's stupid splash screen which comes up every time you open a Word, PowerPoint, and Excel file. It seems to add like 1 second to the opening time of the file. It is getting so annoying that I'm considering switching to Office 2007 for good.

How can Microsoft make an Office suite which opens files slower than the previous version?

Answer:Opening files in Office 2010 slow!

Do you have the RTM?
The beta version downloads (click to run) the software as you need it each time.

Been trying to load a newky purchased version of Office 2010 on my laptop with Windows 7. I have both an online link and I also ordered a back-up CD. Whenever trying to install from either source, the install asks for the Product Key, it Validates and then begins the install and then just stops at about the 98% complete mark and just sits there with no error message or any explanation. If I try to close the window (after 15 minutes) it says it's closing, but never does andI have to use Task Manger to finally close it. How can I get the install to finalize?? It's frustrating..............

Answer:Office 2010 install stalls

Hi there,

Does your hardware meet the specifications? Do you have any other applications running? Have you left it running for more than 15 minutes? Perhaps it might be something to install it, enter the product key, and let it install overnight while you're in beddy-bye, or when you go to work. Without a specific error message, or a failed install message, I'm wondering if it's just going really slow.

Working in a higher education establishment I am entitled to download and install a work-at-home version of Microsoft Office 2010 (32-bit). However, this version is not supported by our IT department so I am unable to seek help for the installation of this software.

I wish to use this version of Office to explore the enhanced accessibility options whilst researching disability support.

Using a VPN connection and Internet Explorer 9 my first download (ISO file mounted on a Virtual Clone Drive) resulted in a rejected installation with the following error:

Office12Setup
{10140000-0F00-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}
14.0.4755.1000
X
DuplicateDefinition
Access.en-us\setup.xml
X
X

A second ISO download on my main PC, again using VPN and IE9, extracted onto a USB drive wouldn't install due to the following error:

D:\ProPlus.WW\OSETUP.DLL digital signature does not validate or is not present.

There is no other instance of MS Office on this PC, only OpenOffice.org Writer. The OS is Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and I have Microsoft Security Essentials running in the background.
Running Fixit had no noticeable effect.

Any assistance would be gratefully received.

John

Answer:Unable to install Office 2010 Pro Plus

have you tried burning the ISO image to dvd disc? then run the setup from the dvd disc.
Also have you switched off the virus scanner while the install is in progress? this may cause the install to abort.

A few days ago I bought an ASUS notebook with Win 7 Home Premium and Office 2010 Starter preinstalled, after my old laptop had gone to hell.

When I tried to install the Office 2010 from the dvd that I had used before with XP home, I got a message that I had to uninstall the preinstalled Office 2010 Starter. So I did uninstall the two Office programms that where preinstalled and tried again.
The installation started fine and appeared to go all the way through but then ended with the message that "an error was detected during the installation", but no details which error. So I thought maybe the uninstall was not complete and after some search found the fixit tool 50450 for uninstalling Office 2010. No change. Downloaded another older tool, but both tell me there is nothing to uninstall, except for some "Office legacy files" which would not be unistalled, I have no idea what that means.
Then I read advice to eliminate manually all entries of "Office" in the registry and so I eliminated the one in CURRENT_USER but could not eliminate the one in LOCAL_MACHINE, it is blocked.
No change.
A friend gave me a disk for trial of a corporate version of Office pro plus and this one installed fine but as it lacks a key this was not useful because I needed to uninstall it again.
So what blocks one office 2010 pro (which had worked perfectly in my XP laptop) but accepts another XP (which I cannot use becauuse of the lack of the key)?
BTW as my disk contains ... Read more

My system is Win7-64 with Office 2010 64-bit version installed and running OK. I installed Office 2010 using the standard Setup routine and opted to install only Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook. After completing the installation I deleted the huge MSOCache folder the installation left behind on my boot drive because my C: is a 64GB SSD and I need all the free space on it I can get.

Now I need to install InfoPath but cannot do it. I have the original Office 2010 CD but all of the Setup programs on it fail - including the one in the InfoPath folder. I downloaded the "trial" Office2010 Setup routine (15.7 MB) but that fails also. I tried "Change" from the Control Panel INstalled Programs list but that does nothing.

Is there any way to get InfoPath installed without having to completely de-install Office 2010 and re-install it?

Answer:How to install Office 2010 InfoPath?

Starting individual msi packages from Office disc will cause error 1713.

You need to start main setup.exe from Office disc. It will ask you what you want to do. Select Add or remove features, then Add InfoPath. Setup will create huge MSOCache folder again, but install only InfoPath.
Then it will finish, delete MSOCache. That's the only easy way.

Just got a new 64-bit Windows 7 HP Pavilion dv7 pc, preloaded with Office 2010 Starter. But on step 3 of the Office 2010 installation process, it gets hung up at 43%. It gives me error message "There was a problem setting up Microsoft Office Home 2010: There was a problem setting up Microsoft Office. Try running Setup again. If the problem continues, contact Microsoft Product Support." I've googled this and found a registry edit %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming. But the registry already has that value. Anyone know what's wrong?

Answer:tried to install ms office 2010 trial

With MicroXP I think you may be pushing it too far expecting Office 2010 to install on it, and you haven't said how much RAM your PC has. Probably not very much if you're using MicroXP, and Office 2010 Setup probably needs more than your PC has.Either that or it's detected that you're using an unofficial version of Windows, so it's aborted.

Hello,
I've just upgraded from vista to win7 ultimate and I've been encountering a number of problems...

I've been trying to reinstall programs and they are not working. Like some aren't extracting correctly or most are saying "files are corrupted, re-download". Does that mean they are not compatible with win7? because I've re-downloaded winrar almost 6 times with the same result...

When I try and complete the setup for Office, it extracts and the cmd prompt thing pops up, then the error message saying I don't have a proper OS but my windows is Activated and genuine with Windows 7 Ultimate.

I have a computer that would not see the hard drive a few days ago. Got a new hard drive and did a clean install of windows and restored the rest of the files with Carbonite. A few days later the computer would not boot into windows again. So this time i reformatted the new drive and stuck it into an identical PC I had.

Now its been 3 days and the computer started to run EXTREMELY slow after booting up. In safe mode its perfectly fine. I have ran multiple virus scans from malware bytes, avast and superantispyware, nothing found.

After some trial and error with turning services off I found that if i disable the local area connection in safe mode then boot into windows normally it runs fine(without the internet connection of course). I have brought the PC to a different location and even put the hard drive in the original computer and it is still having the same issue.

Any ideas on what i can try?

Answer:Running slow with network connection enabled, runs fine in Safe mode

Immediately after a Cold Boot launch Process Explorer (if you have a short list,

Arrange "Working Set" (by clicking on the top of that column) Take a screenshot.
Arrange "Private Bytes" (by clicking on the top of that column) Take a screenshot.
Arrange "CPU" (by clicking on the top of that column) Take a screenshot.

After 30 minutes (or the maximum amount the system hold its self together):
Arrange "Working Set" (by clicking on the top of that column) Take a screenshot.
Arrange "Private Bytes" (by clicking on the top of that column) Take a screenshot.

In my home network, 100MB/s fully switched with Windows 7 and Office 2010, opening documents from a network share takes 20-30 seconds. The size of the documents are small, in the range of 60-100KB. This is how Word 2010 looks like, after double-clicking the file name:

Once it finishes, it greats me with this:

It's not like my network is slow; transferring a 200MBs video between the same machines gives me this:

All of the Office files experience the same issue, such as Excel, Power Point, Visio, etc. The very same file can be copy pasted to my machine and open it in less time than Office opens the same file directly.

This issue only impacts files without the "x" in the file extension, such as ".doc, .xls, .ppt, etc., even if these files were created by Office 2010. With the "x" in the extension, such as ".docx", ".xlsx", etc., the files open up just fine from the network share, like they should.

Is this issue relate to the "legacy" file format and can it be adjusted, other than using the "x" in the file extension?

TIA...

Answer:Office 2010 opens files slow from network....

it's either 1 a library issue
or 2 microsoft office file validation, which kicks into super high gear whenever loading stuff through a network.

You can try the microsoft fixit file from this webpage, it would be the easiest fix for you.

I've got a Samsung notebook running Win7 HP x64. Office 2010 came preloaded on it. When you click on it it present the options to buy or enter a key for the full prog, or to use Starter for free.

Starter will not install. It goes through all the motions and then errors out after several minutes.

Neither will it uninstall. MS Office 2010 Click to Run is listed in Programs and Features, but the uninstall operation "cannot be completed".

So I'm stuck. I even tried Revo uninstaller, to no avail. I would appreciate any leads on this. I've checked several forums, and haven't come up with a solution yet.

I've just installed both versions of Windows 7, 32-bit and 64-bit, through Parallels 8 on a Mac running Lion. Next step: installing Office 2010, Home & Student Edition. It works in 32-bit Windows 7, but I only tried this after it failed in 64-bit Windows 7, which is the OS I'd prefer to run.

In 64-bit Windows 7, the Office installation disk does not autorun (but it does in 32-bit Win). When I navigate to the setup.exe files (for 32-bit, 64-bit, and apparently 86-bit), clicking on them always results in the "Not a valid Win32 application" message and I can go no further. Clicking on the autorun file results in Notepad attempting to open the file for editing (FYI, Notepad fails because it says the file is too big).

I selected the same options for both Windows installations. What can I do to make 64-bit Windows 7 properly install Office? Why isn't it working?

Thanks!

Answer:Can't install Office 2010 (any # of bits) in Windows 7 (64-bit)

I identified the problem, and it was related to Parallels rather than to Windows. Mysteriously, in the Parallels "Devices" menu, my DVD drive had been disabled (but the DVD was still visible within the Windows interface). I re-enabled it and was able to install Office no problem.

I've been having trouble installing Office 2010. I legitimately own 2007, and I get the free upgrade to 2010, but it's the actual installing part that isn't working.

Basically, I try to install it side by side with Office 2007, but it won't work. I get this error message about 2/3 way through the install:

Error 1920: The service (osppsvc) could not be started. Make sure you have sufficient privileges to start system services.

I am an admin, running XP Home, and I definitely have the permissions to start services. I read that changing the service to start under the Local Account instead of the NTAUTHORITY/NetworkService it's set to by default would fix it, and i can start the service after changing this, but the install rolls back anyways.

I have tried completely uninstalling Office 2007, deleting all registry entries, using CCleaner to patch up any registry problems. I also used Windows Installer Clean Up to remove it, didn't help.

So i can install and use Office 2007 just fine, but when i go to install office 2010, i get this error every time.

I checked the permissions for all users, and i have full control. I also gave that NetworkService account full permissions, didn't help.

Any help would be great.

I currently have Office 2003 Pro and use Outlook 2003. I downloaded the 2010 Pro trial version so I could look at Outlook and Word. However, as it turns out, Outlook 2010 will not install if there is a previous version of Outlook installed.

How can someone evaluate if it won't install? All the other 2010 applications install with the Office 2003 applications.

I don't want to uninstall Outlook 2003 as I maintain several mailing lists for a club. It would be a task getting all this recreated in a new version - just so I could try it.

Answer:Office 2010 Trial - Outlook will not install

Only outlook doesnt sit with the older version..all other programs can be installed as new by changing the location where 2010 wants to get installed.

AFAIK, no changes will take place when you install outlook 2010 over 2007. All email, accounts, rules and contacts remain unchanged. I have personally tried this. But I am not sure about 2003 version.

I can suggest you try Outlook 2010 in a virtual machine and then decide whether to go for it or not.

Hello, Welcome to SF,

If the regular method failed then try the Office Uninstaller see whether you could remove using that mostly left over files used to remove then you use this Tool. If that fails then follow this document to remove the left over files manually. One thing i'm doubtful is "Q:" what are you referring to does it give the error about a Q: ??

I've been trying to load a newly purchased version of Office 2010 on my laptop with Windows 7. I have both an online link that I've tried todownload from and I also ordered a back-up CD. Whenever trying to install from either source, the install asks for the Product Key, it validates and everything is OK as the Key is validated......but then it begins the install and then just stops at about the 98% complete mark and just sits there with no error message or any explanation. Error 1935: And error occurred during the installation of assembly component {DCDF7794-7F8F-4F41-8CAD-95128804065E}. HRESULT: 0x80070005.

I'm downloading the 64-bit version now to test that one, but I'd appreciate knowing exactly why this happened - if anyone else out there knows.

Answer:Error With Office 2010 Beta Install

Solved the problem by installing the beta into a folder I created called 'Microsoft Office 2010', instead of the default 'Microsoft Office' folder. Don't know why it worked, but it did.

Hi

I did a factory restore as my computer crashed and wouldn't come on for months. After researching here and there on the net , I managed the Alt F10 miracle and eventually got the computer on long enough to do a factory restore. However, all goes well until the dreaded ALaunchX that honestly should not exist. It gets stuck on installing office 2010 and does not budge any further. I've seen this thread before and Mark suggested downloading Farbar recovery scan tool and running the scan. (I have tried everything else mentioned in that thread) Nothing has worked. Mark then sent a txt document to the person that had the problem and it seemed to work. I've gone ahead and done the scan, so could somebody please print a magic text document for me. Thanking you in advance

Hi all,
I'm new to this forum and would lik anyone that can help me with the problem here. I've tried most of the ways i could find to uninstall the built in office 2007 in my laptop (Windows 7 64 bit).
Currently, i purchased the office 2010 64 bit but it a message saying that i cant install it due to my computer is still installed with office 2007. The message is this:
You cannot install the 64-bit version of Office 2010 because you have 32-bit Office products installed. These 32-bit products are not supported with 64-bit installations:
Microsoft Office Professional Hybrid 2007
If you want to install 64-bit Office 2010, you must uninstall all 32-bit Office products first, and then run setup.exe in the x64 folder. If you want to install 32-bit Office 2010, close this Setup program. and then either go to the x86 folder at the root of your Cd or DVD and run setup.exe, or get the 32-bit Office 2010 from the same place you purchased 64-bit Office 2010.
(I've tried using RipoutOffice2007 and Microsoft Fix it)
Thanks for the help everyone

Answer:Uninstalling Office 2007 to install 2010 HELP!!

This is a common issue and there is a tool out there but I like Revo Uninstaller. Download and install Revo Uninstaller free version. Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems
When you run Revo Uninstaller, click on the Office 2007 installation and choose the advanced option and click next.
Revo Uninstaller will start the built in office uninstaller. Go through the normal steps for that and let it fail (I assume this is your issue. It was for me).
After the office built in uninstall application has failed and is closed click next on the Revo Uninstaller window. It will do a safe scan of your computer for registry keys written to your computer during the office installation.
Keep clicking next until a list of left over registry keys comes up (there may literally be thousands of them but don't panic). Click select all and select delete. Click next when it is done.
It will now scan your computer for left over files and folders. Keep clicking next until a list of files and folders comes up. Click select all and select delete.
Click next when it is done and click finish. It may tell you not all files files will be deleted until the next reboot, in which case, do a reboot and office will be completely uninstalled.
This is the way I uninstall everything on my PC.

I was encountering annoying pop up messages when I ran SharePoint for the first time to see what it was. Ever since then it has been asking me for my username and password to a similar server used in my school board's computers. I manually uninstalled SharePoint but it didn't change anything. So I just tried to re-installed the complete Microsoft Office Professorial 2010. It kept giving me some error which I do not remember exactly but searching it on Google it was telling me that there were left over files on my PC after the uninstall. It told me to grant full permission for all users to the %temp% file and I did so. However, nothing changed in the re-installation.

I tried it again after a reboot again same error.

How do I fix this error when I "have left over files"?
I do not know where these files are or what they're called.
But actually looking in my %temp% folder they are a lot of weird files and folders I've
never seen before. (I go there quite often to mod my Minecraft.exe)

Answer:Microsoft Office 2010 Re-Install issues

There is a Microsoft Fixit available for Office uninstall problems. Run it, and then re-install Office, but disable Sharepoint during the installation procedure.

How do I uninstall Office 2003, Office 2007 or Office 2010 suites if I cannot uninstall it from Control Panel?

I am trying to install Office 2010 on my Dell XPS 710 running Windows 7 Ultimate (x86). Howere clicking on the file I downloaded from MSDN, I get a message saying it is extracting files and once the progress bar has gone across the program stops with no message or error. I have tried running this program in Administrator Mode but get the same result. I currently have Office 2007 Professional running on this PC. Any assistance would be much appreciated. Thanks Mateen

The other day, I upgraded from Winzip 15.5 to 16.0. Shortly thereafter, Outlook took offense to the Winzip-Courier plug-in. The next time I restarted, my PC had forgotten which of my 3 TB drives was the startup drive. The only way to get it to start was to hit f12 and tell it which one. Once I got it booted, I found that Chrome failed to work anymore and none of the MS-Office 2010 apps (with the exception of OneNote) will load and Windows Live Mail doesn't work either. (I'm still opening up one app after another to see what else may be affected.)

I've run scans using MS-Security Essentials, Threatfire, and Malwarebytes and have come up clean with each scan. I'm beginning to think I might have a drive getting ready to head south???

Uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome and got it working, but I'm unable to repair MS-Office 2010 from Control Panel/Programs and Features, or by inserting the disk and waiting for it to load and ask me if I want to repair the current installation. In either case, I get a dialog window that says: "Microsoft Setup Bootstrapper has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

UH ... Hello? I'd really like to get to my mail .... !!! Other than using REVO Uninstaller to wipe out MS Office and start all over, does anyone have any ideas?

Windows 7, 64-bit SP1

Answer:Office 2010 — Unable to Install/Repair

Hi there
please note that when using drives > 2TB you need to enable GPT otherwise Windows can't see > 2TB.

You might be "missing" part of the 3TB drive.

Using GPT Drives

Note also there is a tutorial (a very good one BTW) in this forum on GPT drives and booting from them too.

Cheers

I was trying to install updates on my wife's computer for office 2010, when I received a message that updates failed. On going back to previous updates, I realized, that none of the updates had installed. I immediately checked to make sure the office setup exe file was enabled, and it was. Windows updates install just not office updates. (Amd 64 dual-core 6 gb ram 2 itb hdd. windows vista home premium 64-bit). What can I do to get these updates to install? Event viewer gives this output: Product: Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 -- Error 1606. Could not access network location %APPDATA%\.I also got a error code:80070643. What do I need to do to get the updates to install?

Answer:office 2010 updates fail to install

See if this will help
You receive error code: 0x80070646, error code: 646, or error code: 1606 when you use Windows Update or Microsoft Update

Hi,

MS Office 2010 Professional Plus 32 Bit keeps on installing. After 4 hours its still stuck half-way.

Fixes I tried:
1. Uninstalling and re installing several times.
2. Uninstalled all previous versions using Fix it that uninstalls Office.
3. Tried installing in Safe Mode and Clean Boot.
4. Disabled Antivirus
5. Enabled Windows Installer logging, but I dont know the meaning of the results of the log file.
6. Ran the program as an administrator.
7. Took complete ownership of all related files.
8. Used Registry cleaner to clean junk stuff that might be causing a problem.

After all these tries and weeks of work on installing, its really frustrating that Office still does not install!!

Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

I uninstalled it previously because the icons were missing. So trying to reinstall it I keep getting a rather unspecific error just saying "an error has occurred".

Answer:Microsoft Office 2010 Re-Install issues

Hi,

Try these,

1) Create a new administrator account.
2) Log on and launch the installer.

If things don't quite work perfectly now:

3) If you recieve errors accessing your ProgramData folder, use the TakeOwnership registry hack to take control of the entire ProgramData folder, and if needed, create a "Microsoft Office" folder with "Microsoft Office 2010 Tools" inside it under %programdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu.
4) Your error may return at the end of the installation, but don't worry, it's finished and Office is now installed. Switch user (don't log off!) and go back to your own user. Double-check that everything works. Now, to turn off your computer, press and hold the power button for ~five seconds. This will force the computer to shut down instantly, which will close the installer with the error without giving it the opportunity to roll back its changes.

I have just acquired a new computer running windows 7. Acquired office 2010 and installed it. but had to uninstall because of some conflicts. In trying to reinstall on same machine am now getting error saying unable to install and I cannot remember what was said exactly. I believe it is something to do with a reinstall and using the same product key. Have talked with a couple of people from they say Microsoft, but they are thrid party vendors and their object for the most part was to try and sell me antivuis software and other stuff to keep my new machine running. They said I had all these corrupted files etc. I have run malware, and anti spy ware and came up with two small infections, I'm also running Microsoft essential and installed that before I did anything on the web. I told them to take a hike. So what is preventing me from loading the Microsoft 10 and what do I need to do. Look forward to the experts out there figuring out this problem. Gary
