Question: desktop gadgets & toshiba flash cards

My desktop gadgets will not load. I've read the solutions but unfortunately when I start my computer the timer spins continuously trying to load them and I cannot access the control panel or search box. I cannot access gadgets in safe mode. Any ideas.
Also I get a message on start up stating that Toshiba Flash Card program is not working.
Are these somehow related

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Are you using an antivirus ? If you didn't make the 3 DVD to reinstall Windows 7 back to like it came from the Factory go to All Programs. That's were their located in my Windows 7 HP These DVD can reinstall your Operating System even on a new blank hard drive.
--- If your problem is recent try System Restore to an earlier date. Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore ----- If you can get to the Control Panel in Safe mode try - Backup and Restore - at the left top - Create a system repair disc. --- In the future you need to create a system image backup in Backup and Restore in the Control panel. I use Acronis True Image I bought from the Internet.

Wondering if anyone can help me.

I recently just rebooted my Satellite A200-195.

I found that my flash cards for my ?FN? hotkey function buttons have disappeared and do not pop up on top of the screen anymore.
However I am able to press the other function buttons on the keypad F1 - F8, part from the one that enables the mouse?F9?.

I have already uninstalled and installed the Value Added Package, Flash support utility and even tried to update the Bios but it seems my Bio is already the newest version.
After all this I seem to be able to enable my mouse pad ?F9? but my other function buttons are not working anymore and the flash cards still are not appearing like they use to.
Is there anything I can do to get my flash card to pop up back on screen without having to set my laptop back to factory default?

Answer:Satellite A200-195: TOSHIBA Flash Cards "black and white cards" not working

Have you tried to restart Flash cards?
Start > All programs > Toshiba > Utilities > Restart Flash cards.

What you can also try is to install ?Flash cards support utility? if you can find it on Toshiba download page.

Hi, essejyar, and welcome to the forums.

Can you give us a picture of the *exact* error message, or else write down what it is saying exactly?

As far as multiple user environment, sorry, XP and Vista are both built on the NT kernel (and advances made to said kernel) which means they support multiple users by default. There are a couple of things you can do to make it less intrusive, like automating your login and such, and you can make it easier to use, like disabling UAC, but to protect you from your own self, I'd not recommend these at all.

I am a 20+ year veteran of using computers and I leave UAC on - because then I don't have to run Ad-aware and Spybot and Malwarebytes and Spywareguard and lock down my hosts file and all those other fun things you needed on XP to keep it relatively safe from intrusion and malware....

Hi there.
Like to first off apologise if this is the wrong place to post this topic, but put it down to been new here and the fact that at this point I'm tearing my hair out!!!...
Just recently bought a Toshiba Satellite A135-S4427, which runs Vista Premium, and in the main I'm pretty pleased with it.
No major problems...at least none that don't resolve themselves eventually.
This was however not until I noticed that my Toshiba Flash Card, which host the hot keys and some computer functions and which should drop down only when you point your cursor at the top of the screen, developed a mind all of its own and from time to time decided to make an unsolicited apperance and drop down without been prompted!
As it usually happens when I have just finished clicking on something or touched my mouse, I thought it might have something to do with the external optical mouse I was using so off I went to buy another one but of course the darn thing still does the same thing with the new mouse.
I have found a way to disable the flash cards, but I would rather be able to make use of them rather than turning the fuction off completely because of the annoying 'drop down'.
Someone mentioned to me that it may be a conflict between a program I've installed since getting the computer and the flash card program, but as itunes is the only major add-on I have installed, I wonder!?!...
Could this be another classic case of vista gone bad, or is there something else?

Hello everyone,

Just a quick question. Is there any way that I can have the animation at the top of my screen turned off and STILL have the function keys functional? When I'm running multiple programs and/or on battery power, it takes forever for the animation to pop out and it's just an annoyance. Anything to fix it? Any other software to make them functional? Or any upgrades?

My system is Windows Vista, just in case someone wants to know.
Thank you,
Dave.

I'm working on a friend's Toshiba Satelite L775-S7307. I've reformatted it, put on a shiny new copy of Windows 7 64bit, and installed many of the drivers required to run the hardware.

Now out of the blue, immediately when I turn on the computer, a window titled "TOSHIBA Flash Cards" pops up saying "Win8-TestVersion". You can then click OK or Cancel, both which do nothing more than close the window.

I did a search for the Flash Cards program on the computer but couldn't find anything and I have no idea how to get rid of it.

I've attached a picture of the screen immediately after being booted. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Origin of Toshiba Flash Cards?

Might be the card reader driver for the laptop. Chances are, Windows Update automatically installed what it thought was the right driver and ended up trying the Windows 8 one instead.

Go to Device Manager and see if you can see anything about the card reader there?

Answer:Toshiba flash cards don't response

I assume you are an owner of the notebook with the Vista OS. The Toshiba Flash card is preinstalled software which controls visually the FN buttons.

The Toshiba flash cards are placed at the upper display edge. Usually they are not visible but if you will move the courser over this display area the Flash Cards should appear.

I don?t know why the message appears saying the Toshiba flash cards do not response.
Maybe a reinstallation could helps.

Hi, everyone,

there may be a thread about this, but i could not find it.

I have the following problem: after the lat uptade from Microsoft (I believe the Fall Uptade...) everytime I try to shut the laptop down or restart it, I get the notification on the screen that Toshiba Flash Cards is preventing the computer from shutting down. I get two options - to cancel shutdown or force it. I tried turning the FN keys off from star up settings. However it did not help.

Has anybody ever had this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it?

I don't want to loose the FN keys, but i don't want to force a shutdown everytime either.

So any ideas?

The Windows 7 is very similar to the Vista and many drivers could and would run with Windows 7 but in very rare cases some tools would be not fully compatible?

The Toshiba Flash Cards is not a driver; it?s a utility which seems to be not compatible with Windows 7?

Hey,

I've done some searching and it seems that both KeNotify.exe (Toshiba/Utilities) and TCrdMain.exe (Toshiba/Flashcards) are responsible for managing the Fn keys.

Could anyone please explain what each does separately, and what functionality will I loose if I remove them from startup?

Thanks a lot!

Answer:What does the Toshiba Flash Cards / KeNotify Application controls?

Hi

From my knowledge the Flash Cards (visual FN button row at the top of the screen) appears pressing if one of the FN + F1-F9 key combination would be pressed.
If you remove both tools, I assume that this visual menu would not appear anymore and you will lose the FN button functionality.

But you can test this just for testing proposes without deleting both entries.
In search type msconfig. In msconfig choose Startup tab and here uncheck both exe files. Save the changes and reboot the unit.

If you want to get back these processes, access the Startup tab again and enable both processes once again.

Toshiba Flash Cards crashes on Vista when windows is set to use the "windows standard" colour scheme under appearance settings, (for your information, I prefer to use this mode as vista runs quicker, uses less battery power and less system ram in this mode).

However it does not crash immediately, instead it seems to crash whenever I rotate the screen (which happens quite often as I?m using a tablet pc) with the previous version of the software it crashed on boot however that seems to have been rectified with this version although not completely, however when it crashes it will not fully close even if i force task manager to end the process (rather than just the task).

Hi all.

Hardware: Toshiba Tecra S5-14R
I have a problem with Toshiba Flash Cards software.
When it starts I've received an error "R6025 - pure virtual function call", and then the microsoft alert that Toshiba Flash Cards software stopped working

I'm using Windows Vista Business 32 bit OS, and I've downloaded new version of Toshiba Flash Cards software (v.2.00.05), but it doesn't solve the problem.

Could somebody help?

Answer:Tecra S5-14R: Toshiba Flash Cards stops working: Runtime Error R6025

Hi

It seems that this error is known to the Microsoft support people and therefore they have published a knowledge base article.
Such error appears also if you would run the software ?Microsoft Money?.

Please try the steps described here:
[Runtime Error: "R6025 -Pure virtual function call"|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/240437]

I would recommend doing this:

1. Disable the Flash cards
2. Click Start, type cmd in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
3. At the command prompt, type the following lines one at a time, and then press ENTER after each line:
- regsvr32 softpub.dll
- regsvr32 wintrust.dll
- regsvr32 initpki.dll
- regsvr32 dssenh.dll
- regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
- regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll
- regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
- regsvr32 sccbase.dll
- regsvr32 slbcsp.dll

Hello,

My toshiba is Satellite U300 model no. PSU30C-TP908C with windows vista installed

I am getting into a big trouble for some reason, all the keys from "F1~F12" are malfunctioned. When i press them, they do not work as what its suppose to do, instead they all became the functions that you would have when you press them while holding the "Fn" key. So, now if i press F1, I actually get a compter locked instead of casting the help window. Pressing "U,I,O,J,K,L,M" would print out numbers, but if you turn "ON" the numberpad by pressing "F11"(note that i could do it without holding Fn), these keys will return to normal. Space bar does not work no matter what you do. The numbers "1,2" above "Q,W" does not work either.

Another thing i found out is that when i try to open the accessibility tools in the toshiba utility. It says "This system does not support this program".

I have tried to find updates to these utilities, but i could not find the ones suitable for my toshiba. I went to the toshiba support page, click on download and it prompts me to select my toshiba laptop and model number. However, from the list of toshiba satellite U300, there is only 3 models and none of them is PSU30C-TP908C. I did not know which one is compatible with my model, so i gave up finding the updates.

Answer:Satellite U300 PSU30C - Toshiba flash cards and accessibility tools issue

Hi

Normally you can find all drivers on the Toshiba Canada page for your notebook:
http://www.toshiba.ca => Support => Mobile Computing

For the FN keys on Windows you need the Value Added Package. You can find it on the Toshiba website. Remove the old version and restart the notebook. Then use CCleaner to clean the registry and then install the version.

But be honest if you can?t go in the BIOS because with F2 I think it?s a keyboard malfunction and this has nothing to do with the Toshiba tools.
In your case I would test an external keyboard? So you can determine if it?s an internal keyboard problem or not.

Good luck!

Question: Desktop Gadgets

I had enabled Show on Desktop for Control Panel, and I put shortcuts on my Desktop to Backup and Restore and cmd.

Shortly afterwards, I installed CryptoPrevent. Upon launching for the first time, it said that Windows sidebar and desktop gadgets are security vulnerabilities and recommended I disable them. I've never used the Sidebar, and I didn't think that anything on my Desktop was a "Gadget" (maybe I was wrong about that). At any rate, I declined to disable anything, and CryptoPrevent never mentioned it again.

Shortly after that, I ran a scan with Avira. (It didn't find any malware.)

But when I returned to my computer after the scan ran, Control Panel, Backup and Restore and cmd had all disappeared from my Desktop. It seems likely to me that they were removed by either CryptoPrevent or Avira.

Anyway, can anybody tell me if they ARE Desktop Gadgets, and even if they're not, whether or not I should leave them off my Desktop?

Answer:Desktop Gadgets

None of the items you mentioned are Desktop gadgets.
If you find it convenient having shortcuts to cmd, Backup and Restore etc on your desktop then go for it. They pose no security risk.

In Control Panel, Programs, under desktop gadgets you can select 'Restore default gadgets installed with Windows. This might cure any problems you have with your gadgets.

I disabled/rebooted/enabled/rebooted gadgets to try and get them to work, but to no avail.

If i drag a gadget to the desktop nothing happens. The same if i try to drag a file or make a shortcut.

Is this an easy thing to rectify? Or do i have to reinstall?

EDIT: -

Strangely just had to right click desktop and choose 'Show Desktop items'. No idea how this was unchecked in the first place, but hey! If you have a similar error, try the simple things first!

Answer:Can't use 'desktop' or gadgets

Thanks for the update, that solved my problem as well.

Question: Desktop gadgets

Hello, I have a quick question. My desktop gadgets disappeared after windows update. I've tried everything. What should I do, any suggestions? tnx

Answer:Desktop gadgets

Hi lady89nen. Welcome to the TenForums @lady89nen

Desktop Gadgets are not supported in Windows 10 as part of the basic OS. They were dropped with Windows 8.

Are / were you running a program to provide this functionality? If so I would re-install.

Question: Desktop Gadgets?

So I was poking through gpedit.msc looking for things to disable when I found:

I thought desktop gadgets were removed in Windows 8? To test it I enabled them, got my favorite .gadget.

Nada.

Is this for compatibility purposes or just another example of Windows bloat?

P.S.

I know there are third party programs to get them working in Windows 10, I just think its odd

Answer:Desktop Gadgets?

You are right, I have it too although I was never a fan of gadgets and found them mildly useless because they worked on desktop only which I scarcely see, maybe once or twice a day and they are burden to RAM and CPU.
Don't know the reason it's still there, maybe just a leftover or for compatibility's sake. By default, it's policy is not set so by default it's just some text floating around and not much of a bloat.
It would be interesting to see if some of those third party programs change policy setting.

Anyone know about these? I've looked at the very good tutorials about these and their predecessor Windows Sidebar on msdn.microsoft.com. However, I can't get at them on my PC. For instance, the right-click on the desktop gives a pop-up menu that includes 'Screen resolution' and 'Personalize' but there is no 'Gadgets' listed between them as the tutorials show. Also, following the instructions to turn them on (Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Turn Windows features on or off), 'Gadgets' was not amongst the very cryptic options available. And finally, I only see one gadget in the Program Files/Windows Sidebar/gadgets folder, and it isn't the Clock one that is described in one mini-tutorial.

I have Windows 8 (not the Pro version) on a Dell Inspiron R15.

How can I get to play with gadgets?

Answer:Window desktop gadgets

Hello Thicko, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Sorry, but gadgets have been completely removed from Windows 8 for security reasons.

Instead, Windows 8 now has Store apps with live tile updates that you can use (turn on or off) on the Start screen.

With that said, you could use the free 8GadgetPack program to use gadgets in Windows 8. Just be aware that gadgets can pose a severe security risk to your system.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

In that we are Beta testing Ultimate there are built-in controls for UAC you won't find in "lesser" versions. One is called "Elevate without prompting".

What this means is you can leave your UAC settings as they are now but not get popups whenever you do anything....which means you can have your Gadgets and (in appearance) not have UAC.

How to change the elevation prompt behavior for administrators

1. Click Start, click Accessories, click Run, type secpol.msc in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. From the Local Security Settings console tree, click Local Policies, and then Security Options.
3. Scroll down to and double-click User Account Control: Behavior of the elevation prompt for administrators.
4. From the drop-down menu, select the following setting:
? Elevate without prompting (tasks requesting elevation will automatically run as elevated without prompting the administrator)

5. Click OK.
6. Close the Local Security Settings window.

It works (only in Ultimate)....but be very very careful about what you install after you change these settings.

Answer:No UAC Prompts & Desktop Gadgets

Now, remember, kids, this will make your system *more* vulnerable as all apps will be able to elevate themselves without you ever seeing a prompt - and that includes malware.

OK this is a very odd problem indeed. I installed the Internet Explorer 9 Beta on my desktop computer, and loved it. So, the next day I decided to put it on my laptop. It runs fine, only it is causing a very odd problem. The "calendar" desktop gadget no longer displays a calendar, just the orange background. I tried reinstalling the gadget but that did not help. If I revert back to IE8, the problem goes away. I use the calendar on my desktop computer with IE9 and it works fine, so why does it mess with the one on my laptop? More importantly, why is my internet browser even having an effect on my desktop gadgets? Any help would be appreciated. I understand beta programs arent perfect, but I thought this particular issue was ver yinteresting. Im attaching a screenshot of the problem so you can see what it looks like.

Answer:IE9 affecting Desktop Gadgets!!???

I don't have the answer, but this isn't the first time a new version of IE has played rough with sidebar gadgets. IE8 broke a few when it came out too. They would get weird pinkish outlines and such.

IE9 broke a nice gadget I use all the time, called "Top Process". It gets all scrambled up and unreadable.

Sorry I couldn't help, but it felt good to whine about it...

I have one T510 and one W530 running exactly with the same OS and IP and I have this nagging issue with my calendar and weather gadgets. Windows updates and the newest FF versions are completely up to date in both systems. And still, while the T510 has never failed to load these gadgets, the W530 fails, I would say, about 25% of the time, from the beginning. I have resolved with rebooting and this usually works, but some times I have to reboot two or three times before they finally load. This is annoying, to say the least.Does anyone have the same problem or knows what may be at issue here? Thanks for all help on this matter.

I have searched for an answer to this issue for 2 days. My gadgets have just disappeared. I didn't change anything as far as I knowI have never changed the user account settings (they are on the 3rd setting). I have win7 installed on the computer already I bought 4 months ago. When I try to click on the gadget settings on the desktop dialogue or control panel a dialogue box comes up and says: "Windows desktop gadgets have stopped working, windows is searching for a solution to the problem" and the box stays on for a few seconds and then disappears.

Important note: When I created another user account (guest), and go to that account the gadgets work fine. Only my administrator account do they not work. I have tried putting my registry back to a 2 week point and still nothing on the admin account.

Any ideas?

Hey folks,

Brand new here. Good forum, wealth of great info.

Sidebar gadgets in Vista Home Premium, 32-bit, 2? G of RAM.

Either gadgets that came with the system, or downloaded gadgets, doesn't seem to matter.

I install them to sidebar, undock them to desktop, place them where I want them, close the sidebar.

I leave the computer for a bit, screensaver kicks in, all works fine, until...
...I come back to the computer, give the mouse a little shake to release the screensaver and get back to desktop, and my gadgets have all changed position.

They seem to move only laterally, shifting left across the screen about an inch or two, but retain their vertical position. Strange, huh?

So, I went to the great HP chat application that came with this new HP computer, and talked with them about it. We tried different variations of the View settings on desktop, Align to Grid, Auto-arrange, but no help there.

Anybody ever heard of this? This machine did this from the start, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't something downloaded.

Not a big deal, just annoying to have to drag stuff back to where it belongs every time I come back to it.

Thanks
Donny

Because we want to focus on the exciting possibilities of the newest version of Windows, Microsoft no longer supports uploading new gadgets. But that doesn't mean you can't still get gadgets. The most popular and highest-rated gadgets are still available on this page.

You won't need them and they will only be clutter once this OS is released. Considering apps will suspend and the apps easily replace gadgets it makes sense. I will miss my real time resource stats but I bet there will be something even better to replace them soon enough.

Not necessarily. It all depends on the type account that one and only user has. So when you look in Control Panel > User Accounts, what does it say yours is?
Also, note that gadgets were discontinued because they were proven to be too great a security risk.

Hi all
They appeared first in VISTA - and have carried on into W7 (thankfully not enabled by default).

Am I the only one who HATES that type of clutter on the desktop -- for me just a nice wallpaper with a minimal amount of clutter on the desktop is my preferred way of working.

I can't see any reason to know what the traffic is like in Shanghai or today's favorite menu in the "South Sea Islands" prominently displayed on a desktop while I am working - but if people like it - who am I to deny it to them.

I would much rather MS made a USEFUL facility like having a number of Virtual desktops all 100% independently configuarable like they did in XP. (The W7 compatable version in the SYSINTERNALS suite isn't nearly as good as the old XP one and doesn't independently configure all the desktops).

Most Linux distros (especially using KDE or GNOME GUI's) have had this facility for YEARS.

Cheers
jimbo

Answer:Desktop Gadgets - am I alone in finding these useless

Jimbo I like the fact that if they have Gadgets, they have finally made them STABLE.

I actually read the Win7 developers blog about how they reconstructed the way they were "drawn" or something, but that is as deep into programming as I go - however I did read it all the way through because of how impressed I was with their committment to stabilizing the Vista sidebar mess.

Yes, I did succumb to putting up the Weather in places where I live, a Calendar and the Stiky Notes which I really like since it expands as I type to remind me of how much I have to do. My list is about 2" by 6" right now.

What impresses me most is how perfectly stable they are in Win7, over a year now and not a hiccup, while the ones on our Vista computer are still flip-flopping all over the place.

I have a number of desktop gadgets on my PC. The CPU use, network use and weather ones are nice, but not really necessary... those are the ones that still work.

The others, are web admin tracking gadgets, some custom-made, some downloaded, which monitor my home server's load, connectivity, session and service status and history. These ones are actually important, as I want to ensure solid uptime. These gadgets do not work.

They were working just fine until about 3 hours ago, and then they all just disappeared. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, examining the code, forcing sidebar gadgets to display, etc... none of it has worked. I can't think of any reason these gadgets should not be showing, but they're just not.

I can add, remove and display additional gadgets just fine, such as misc gadgets that came with the system, or bundled with software... it's just those server tracking ones that I can't see. The gadget selection window pops out of focus when I click on them, as if applying the focus to the selected gadget, but they just don't show up.

About all I can think of is maybe some service died or froze or something, which some gadgets are dependent on but not others? but it doesn't really make sense, since it's the simplest html and javascript gadgets that stopped working, while other far more complex ones work just fine.

Any ideas before I start pulling out my hair?

Answer:Some desktop gadgets disappear/invisible

well I found a temporary fix...

Code:
taskkill /im sidebar.exe /f
start sidebar
This will get them working again, but after a few hours, they just disappear again, so it's not a permanent fix, and needs to be re-applied.

It should be noted that prior to when it broke the first time, I had been running these gadgets for a good 3 weeks without it ever having a problem.

Everything was fine when I went to bed last night. When I woke up the computer rebooted(it was at the login screen). I have updates set at 3am.

I hate to do restore. Are there any other options? From what I've seen most are security updates...some Microsoft framework, others are office 2010 security.

Hello Everyone,After installing Windows 7, I was able to select and run desktop gadgets on my desktop. After few days, or I should say that after few reboots, the desktop gadgets disappeared. Now, when I right click on the desktop and click on gadgets, nothing comes up. I also tried to open desktop gadgets from start menu, run command, and accessaries, but nothing works. I did a clean install of Windows 7, did someone else have the same problem? Any solution?

Answer:Windows 7 Desktop Gadgets disappeared

When upgrading from Vista to Windows 7 your gadget bar comes over and installs instead of the Windows 7 gadgets. (or sometimes the folder data gets courupted by something so same fix works) So when you install a new gadget ... it doesn't seem to stick! The reason for this is the Gadget bar is taking precedence and the Gadgets you are adding don't go there. To fix this you need to delete your settings in your users app section.
For example if your user name is "Jon" then go to C:\Users\Jon\AppData\Local\Microsoft\
Then delete the folder called "Windows Sidebar" (close your gadgets, then cut and past the original elsewhere or rename this to test it if you like)
This will delete your users gadget settings so when you go to use a gadget it will reset the folder and settings.

Hi All,

Recently I've run into a problem that I can't seem to fix and would appreciate any advice. I don't know what triggered it, but Windows seems to think my desktop is smaller (width-wise) than it actually is.

I have a Dell 6400 laptop, with an ATI radeon x1200 graphics card, and I'm running Windows 7 with Aero. The native resolution is 1680 x 1050. For some reason, Windows thinks my desktop size is something less (perhaps 1300 x 1050 or thereabouts). All of my desktop gadgets get moved to left, leaving 200 pixels or so unusable. If I try to maximize a windows, it won't use that far right region.

I figured this was a graphics driver problem, so I uninstalled (then reinstalled) the ATI driver. This seemed to fix it for a while. Then (usually after a resume from hibernation), the problem reappears.

I've tried googling around, but I don't know what exactly to search for.

The maddening thing is that Windows 7 has been working great on my laptop for weeks when this suddenly showed up.

The only clue that I have is that the problem seemed to show up after I accidentally hit the Windows-P button. I also had been playing with the magnifier a bit. Afterwards, I noticed this problem.

Note that the screen resolution is correct (1680 x 1050). I can change the resolution, but that seem to have no effect.

Any hints or suggestions on how I can get rid of this problem greatly appreciated...

I've attached a snapshot of the upper right section of my desktop. Note that th... Read more

Hello,

Always something new, I guess.

Printed out a document which went O.K.
When I looked back at my screen, everything on it was flipped 90 degrees !
Finally was able to find the Display Settings, and get it back to "normal".

a. What do you think (might have) happened ?

b. But all my Desktop Gadgets are now gone.
All I seem to be able to find, or get, is a msg. that comes up
saying: Desktop Gadgets Are managed By Your System Administrator
Huh ?

How, please can I get them back, or pick from the normal selection again to put on my Desktop ?
Why does this happen; not the first time (but the first time for this msg.) ?

Much thanks, as always,
Bob

Answer:Screen Flipped 90 deg. And Desktop Gadgets Problem, Please

Are you using a 3rd party install of Desktop Gadgets? I ask because Gadgets were removed in Windows 10 because of security risk. Gadgets have been discontinued - Microsoft Windows

I uninstalled the McAfee antivirus that came on my new K430 and after the reboot it required, all my desktop gadgets are broken. I searched online and have tried various things suggested (except restore from a previous version) and nothing has fixed it. I don't want to go back to a rpevious version as I believe it will just put McAffe back etc. Any ideas?

Answer:Windows Desktop Gadgets has Stopped Working.

Hi Siddharth93, welcome aboard,

You'll have to mention the things you've tried already so we know. But I'll say a couple anyways.

Have you tried running sfc/scannow?

How about trying one of these
Gadgets - Turn On or Off
Gadgets - Restore Default Gadgets

Answer:restore hp desktop gadgets and games program

See if you can download a new copy of the program from HP site (you should be able to), then uninstall and use the new download to reinstall it. You probably have a corrupt file somewhere in there and reinstalling would be the easiest way.You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

first off, i am using windows 7 home premium. i recently tried to add some of the gadgets to my desktop but none of them will display properly. they either dont display at all or only the overall shape of the gadget will appear. whether they display or not they will always show the "x" to close out of the gadget as well as the icon to drag the icon. i have tried all the troubleshooting techniques i have come across all over the web. these techniques include, running system file checker (came up with no discrepencies), deleting improper registry, disabling the windows gadget feature then re enabling it, and lastly i tried resetting my internet zone settings back to default. none of these has given me any result whatsoever. i made another user account on my computer and when i log into it the gadgets work fine. one might just say to start using a new user account and delete the current account. i consider that a last resort, i have too much stuff on my current account and i would very much just like to fix the problem instead. any help is greatly appreciated

Answer:windows 7 desktop gadgets will not display properly

This is on the bottom of get more gadgets online page. (Some gadgets are optimized for Windows Vista and might not provide the same experience if installed on Windows 7. Some gadgets (such as those using High DPI) only work on computers running Windows 7. )If you are using the gadgets that came with your copy of premium 7 then see if both user accounts are using the same screen resolution.Try the same desktop picture as in your new user account.Have the gadgets ever displayed properly before, as you then might be able to use system restore.Hope this helps.

SYX Systemax Tower PC running Windows 7 Pro 64 software. All systems are go except:I use 3 internally provided "gadgets" on my desktop - the CPU monitor, the currency converter set to Canadian dollars, and the weather monitor set to Vancouver, BC Celsius. A few days ago, after a Windows update download session, they stopped operating correctly. They each still show the "data" for each function, but the graphics have become inop. The CPU says "CPU usage 08%, RAM 47%" in words, but the two little dials and pointers are gone. The currency indicator says "USD 1.000, CAD 1.066" but the the gold bar graphic is gone. The weather says "-7 deg, Vancouver, CAN" but the graphic of sun or clouds or rain is gone. All other desktop icons look normal and operate as expected. Desk top wall paper is the same as before.Anyone else ever seen this?  Any suggestions for a fix appreciated.

I have been using Windows 7 desktop gadgets just fine for the last three months and, suddenly, they won't work.I have tried all the solutions I could find: - enabling UAC - deleting the Windows Sidebar configuration files - the Regsvr32 stuff hereWhen I delete the config files, I can get as far as launching the sidebar gadget list, but as soon as drag a gadget to the desktop, it crashes.I'd really rather not restore an earlier backup of the system, because reinstalling and reconfiguring my software will be a huge hassle.

Answer:Windows 7 desktop Gadgets Continually Crash

Try System Restore. If you only roll back a few days you shouldn't have much to re-install or re-configure.Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System RestorePersonally, I see no point in using the Sidebar & Gadgets. It's just a gimmick which wastes system resources - totally pointless.

Hello,

Since about a couple of days ago, every time I start windows, it does not load the desktop gadgets automatically. To temporarily solve this, I have to type "desktop gadgets" in "Search the web and Windows", then click on "Desktop gadgets", the desktop gadgets windows pop-sup and then my two gadgets show up. They are the Slide Show and the Chameleon Weather. These used to load automatically at windows start-up, but now they don't. I have Windows 10 Home. Please help.

Platform is Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (hooray for MS company store discount ).

The issue I'm having is that the desktop gadgets move around when I connect to my computer via remote desktop with a different resolution. Example situation:

- Everything is fine at 1600x1200 when I'm physically at the PC.
- I leave, and login remotely at, e.g. 1280x1024 with the same user account.
- I return to the machine, back to 1600x1200, but the gadgets are no longer at the right side of the screen. They've moved a bit to the left.

The only fix is to manually move them all back to the right. This is definitely a remote desktop issue as that's the only time I have the trouble.

Recommendations? Can I save/restore the gadget locations, for example? Anyone else have this problem, or is it just me?

Answer:Windows 7 gadgets move around w/ remote desktop

remote desktop switches the desktop of the remote pc to the native resolution of whatever monitor your using in front of you. The only solution is to go into the remote desktop settings and match the resolution of the monitor of the pc being controlled.

For example, I have a 1920 x 1080 display and a 1280 x 1024 pc that I remote into. I just told remote desktop to display at 1280 x 1024
