I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I have pop up error message Unable to cast object of type 'System.Boolean' to type 'System.String'" comes up every time windows 7 started...
So I check the msconfig if some start up software has error but I couldn't find anything.
I unchecked all start up application and reboot it but still have error message.
So I go event viewer then I found the error happened in the same time I start up the windows 7 so this might be the one.
This is info for error I got.

Log Name:Application
Source WMI
Event ID 10
Level : error
Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

Is there any way to fix this error so that pop up error might stop??
Thank you!

Answer:Unable to cast object of type 'System.Boolean' to type 'System.String'.

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-7/1084910-solved-unable-cast-object-type.htmlUse restore point to set computer back in time to an earlier working state in which this does not occur and then perform security updates etc seems to be the fix according to this. However one person stated that with Event Logging service turned off, that also fixed this issue if a restore point is not available to go back to.

Hi,
I apologize if this is not the right section, this seemed to be the most suitable.
I am using a 3D Connexion mouse and when I try to execute an executable file for the software configuration, I get the following error?
"Exception: Unable to cast object of type 'System.Configuration.Internal.ConfigurationManagerInternal' to type 'System.Configuration.Internal.IConfigSystem'"
I've talked with the mouse vendor and they have no idea.  My OS is Win7 64.  Does anybody know what this is?

Hello good people,

I recently installed a software called "CheVolume" which is very handy as it allows you to split the audio on your computer.

AFAIK, the installation itself was smooth and problem free. But when I open it, it gives me an error message which reads:

Error: Unable to cast object of type
'System.Configuration.Internal.ConfigurationManagerInternal' to type
'System.Configuration.Internal.IConfigSystem'.

After some searching, I believe it may be a .NET Framework problem. I already have the latest one installed (I think 4.5, but I'm not sure how to check it) as I downloaded it from the Microsoft website and tried to reinstall, but it tells me that I don't need it.

I'm out of ideas, so I would really appreciate your help.

Thank you for looking.

Reseated RAM & all Cards
Changed RAM & all Cards
Reset Bios Defaults

After switching it on and off a few dozen times it will bootup ok. I am quite happy to leave it running all the time but I am running a microsoft OS!!! Need i say more.

Hi Rogue51

Just a random thought. From what I have read most siren type noises have to do with over heat warnings possibly a fan doesn't have a temp sensor on it or isn't up to speed. I would look in Bios for something dealing with overheat sensing. BOL

To Whom It May Concern (or anyone willing to help):
About 6-8weeks ago (guesstimate) I started getting a random window popup at various times while browsing online. They are always fullsized page & open in a new window (not just a new tab), without my regular menu/toolbar, etc on top. I did notice a little icon right before the url it shows at very top, clicked it & got a menu-thing showing the permissions of the settings, etc & I could click to view cookie data (in which I was thinking "yippee I got it", lol)... I can "remove" & "block", however each time I can make sure I do all of the however it doesn't seem to help because in a little bit "poof" it comes up just as before! Of course it can get irritating!

I have always used the EICAR ascii string to quasi-test a/v sw, but with amble apprehention, as it is very "specific" in it's signature, leaving more fluid/dynamic scans devoid of the luxury of being broken-in or tested whatsoever, oh my!

Also, with a change from AVG to Avira (thank you Jacee), I feel as though I need more than a mere check for a/v sw responce (esp to this well known "nonVirus"). I hear many a/v suites have decided to no longer even recognize this old friend, I guess the signature takes up an extra 0.734 bytes, and theyre nailing down on streamlining, or something!?!

I also have 64-bit win7 on many machines, and I believe the file is designed more along the 16-ish bit domain, so first would it even work on these machines?

second I always compress the file and retest, compress the compressed file and retest, until I determine the limit to the a/v app's level of detection (I archive test as well, you see)

is there anything better out there? Is there anybody out there?....I had seen long ago, in a more civil era, viri simulator proggies in development, although never really publically available. Have I missed these type of compilations? I mean, if I believe nothing I read and 1/2 of what I see, I need to see more than reports from, what I believe to likely be accurate, but none-the-less unknown entities showcasing bar graphs and such to compare systems in a controlled laboratorious environment!

Question: System Type?

Hi,
This is kinda weird for me, my system type is shown as "64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor", but when I run Task Manager and under Processes all the programs are shown as (32 bit) even the 64bit ones I've installed myself. Does Windows 8 change it from 64bit to 32bit automatically during installation? And also, when I start my computer it goes to the start screen, but then immediately changes to the desktop screen. How do I get it to stay on the start screen?

Answer:System Type?

Most applications are 32 bit, only very few will be 64 bit. What 64 bit apps are you talking about that you installed yourself?

If you were running a 32 bit OS, it wouldn't say 32 bit.. since by definition, they would all be 32 bit. It only shows 32 bit when on a 64 bit OS.

As for the start screen, you are running an application at startup that is causing the desktop to be shown.

When this message what app is generating it?

Look along the Task bar, there should be an icon with a blue bar under it. Hover your mouse over it.

If you then click quit the icon should disappear. Once you have name you should be able to resolve. Post app name.

Hello!

My system clock has been acting up recently. It's been losing around 10-20 mins per hour of the day, and the bios clock shows this too.

I thought it might be that my CMOS battery was low, but I've just replaced that and I'm still having problems.

Whenever I type on my keyboard I get extreme skipping on music files, and everything seems to lag. I thought it might be my keyboard drivers corrupt, but I've just updated them and they're fine. I thought it might be my sound drivers, but it's the same for all of them (Line 6 and Realtek ones), and I've just updated them all to make sure.

I really don't know what the problem is. I've done spyware checks using Spyware Blaster and ZoneAlarm, I've done virus checks with AVG, and I've checked all my current processes using Security Task Manager.

I have a Pentium 4 3.06gHz processor, 1024MB RAM and loads of hard disk space, if that helps. Does anyone have a clue as to what the problem may be?

I've also tried to System Restore, but that's been awfully useless; never seems to work.

Hi. I just posted this poll because i want to see what kinds of operating systems do they have...

Answer:What type of operating system do you have?

The poll needs a multiple OS option.I'm using windows 98. As soon as I can get to it, I will also have a Linux flavor and one of the BSDs. Haven't decided on which ones. My hardware limitations will probably make the decision for me, old PC with RAM, HD and CDRW upgrades. While I'm looking forward to learning Linux and either free or open BSD, I won't use anything newer than 98 for windows. XP is nothing but an over-patched security nightmare and Vista will likely be worse and wouldn't run on my hardware anyway.Rick

In system properties under system type, it says that I have a 64-bit operating system, which I know is (x64). When I go to Computer -> C:, my program files folder has a (x86) after it, which I know is 32-bit. Are these at all related? What does it mean?

I recently upgraded to Window 7 Home 64x from vista ultimate 32x. I also installed 8gb of RAM. I downloaded all the drivers/updates and everything was fine.
Then, I entered in a System Password and an admin password in the set up menu since this hasnt been done previously.

Once I rebooted, it started its normal boot process but then brought me to a white screen that asked for the system or admin password. The problem is, there is no spot to enter the password. I typed it anyway and hit enter and I got "invalid password. hit enter to try again".No letters, or numbers are visible, but i know the keyboard works because it recognized the enter key. After three attempts, it says "hit enter to abort", and then it shuts down.

It wont recognize f2 or f12 when I first turn it on, so right now I cannot access anything. Just that white password screen. Is there a solution? I have also tried a usb keyboard.

Hey all, my first thread in the Developer forum. I'm basically looking for some feedback.

I'm not looking for a search algorithm, mind. Just a parsing algorithm to handle the search terms. So far I've come up with four basic types of searches (or three if you don't count SoundEx searches):

"literal" -excluded [SoundEx] contains

That is, anything in double-quotes looks for an exact match; anything preceded by a hyphen cannot be matched; anything contained within brackets is matched using SoundEx codes (the bracket convention is specific to my application and is not as far as I know a standard search parser convention); and anything else--split at whitespace--is generally matched as a basic substring.

My idea is to break a search string into an associative array that is sort of bitmasked. Each binary key would represent a type of search, a la
Code:

Public Enum stSearchType
stLiteral = 1
stContains = 2
stExcludes = 4
stSoundEx = 8
End Enum

So that for array SearchArray(8, n),
Code:

SearchArray(1, n) ' all the search criteria falling within quote wrappers
SearchArray(2, n) ' all the unspecified search criteria
SearchArray(4, n) ' all the search criteria matching a "* -?*" pattern
SearchArray(8, n) ' all the search criteria falling within brackets

I thought I might go through the input string in chunks, but the more I think about it, the more I believe I should go one character at a time. VBA is worth about di... Read more

I have Vista running on Disk 1 as C:, getting ready to multi boot with Win 7.
Just installed a 1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 HD (OEM) as Disk 2. The first partition on the disk is Unallocated, 7.84Mb, Status None and Type Logical.
If I want to install Win 7 on Disk 2 in it's own partition what settings should this first partition have. (I assume that this is the Bootmanager).

On Disk I it is set as FAT16, Status None and Type as Primary.http://www.sevenforums.com/images/smilies/cry.gif

Answer:Partition File System type on new OEM HD

The unallocated space is reserved by any MS effort for partitioning for changing from the Basic type primary or over to the Dynamic. When using a 3rd drive partitioning program like GParted you won't see any mbs reserved for conversion of volumes. Seeing 6-8mb reserved is actually the expected size.

The creation of the new volume in the Disk Management tool or using the drive tools on a Windows disk however will see a small space like this reserved for that purpose and is nothing to worry about. A fast and easy to take care of that of course would be simply be moving the present primary froward those few MBs and extended it out at the rear while booting live from a GParted cd.

Hello new windows 7 user (1 month) and first time poster here.

I've got a problem that I can't seem to find the solution to after searching extensively.

I am running Win7 Business 32bit on an AMD Dual Core Platform 2.4g with 2gb of RAM.

I have a Buffalo Linkstation Pro NAS which all of my computers map network drives to. With XP, all of the "My Documents" were moved to the server as to share a common set of files. It turns out that since the Linkstation is a Linux based device I can't add the "My Documents" folder to either the Win7 Libraries or as the default "My Documents" location (since it can't be indexed). I can deal with this limitation for now, but I'll be upgrading to a Windows Home Server after the new year.

My problem is thus: I mapped the network shares as drives and attempted some what successfully to move the My Documents location to the server back when I installed windows 7. Everything worked well until about a week ago. When I attempt to access the "My Documents" folder half the files and folders have grey x's on them and can't be accessed. The rest of the folders can be accessed, but are empty. All the other mapped network drives show up as NTFS format except the network drive that holds the "My Documents" folder. It shows up as CSC-CACHE as the file system type and as "Disconnected".

I've moved "My Documents" back to the correct folder on the "C:" drive, disconn... Read more

I've recently bought a new WD 1TB HDD to replace my (really) old Samsung 500GB HDD. I created a system image, then unplugged the old HDD, plugged in the new one and put in the win7 installation disk. I went to restore it from a system image, however, it said something along the lines of not being able to restore because it's EFI and not BIOS? The BIOS itself then went and died, and by this I mean literally only the BIOS clock worked, everything else was pixelated and would not interact with my curosr, so I flashed it and it's now working again, i.e. I'm back at stage one. The system image was created on a Simple NTFS volume, which I created myself as the HDD came completely formatted, not partitions or volumes or anything. I'm really hoping this is an error on my part and not a hardware failure, but we'll see what happens. Don't hesitate to contact me if you need any more information or if the information I've given is too vague. Thanks in advance.

EDIT:
I don't plan on using the old HDD once I've got everything transferred to the new one. There's nothing wrong with it, it's just 20GB away from being full and horribly slow.

Answer:Wrong system image type?

It is most likely not hardware failure because your new HDD is likely formatted with GPT. You should try copying the data off of the old HDD.

hi

processors have speeds like 2.7GHz and this actually a frequency at which it runs ..

frequency is cycles per second .... 2.7GHz = 2.7*1024*1024*1024 = 2,899,102,924.8 Hz i.e cycles per second or pulses per second .

i think 2,899,102,924.8 bits per second such processor is said to process .

on the other hand we have system type like 64-bit ... does that mean processor only processes 64 bits per second ? and how we differentiate both of these factors and distinguish clearly ?

Answer:system type and processor speed

It would be more accurate to think of it as the way the chip handles data and floating-point registers.

I sadly do not actually know the math. It does increase the rate at which data is processed.
It has more to do with the registers though. I'm not sure how it would fit into your equation exactly.

I have recently bought 2 weeks age an Aspire E-15. ES-523-93TU. AMD A9  7th edition, Windoes 10 I am begining to think it was a BIG mistake. It is very, very slow in starting up and moving from page to page, folder to folder, the cooling fan is working full speed nearly all the time and the USB 3.1 Type C is no faster at transfering files than the normal USB 3.When I have looked in the "System" folder there are no USB drivers for 3.1, only 3.0, surly this can't be correct? Anybody know if drivers are available for 3.1? I have searched but nothing found.RegardsDave

Hi: This is the latest support document I can find regarding the type of media needed to create recovery DVD's. It appears you can use the following types...(DVD-R, DVD-R DL, DVD+R, or DVD+R DL) HP recommends you use blank DVD+R discs. Use a name-brand label from a manufacturer you trust, as these recovery DVDs are very important. http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c03520709#N10037

what type of error will come while booting windows 7, if system files are gone to/present in bad sectors?

Answer:what type of error will come when system files are gone to bad sectors

Hi

It depends on which file and whether it is critical or not. I have seen the following symptoms when a hard drive has bad sectors in "C:" drive's area.

1. Windows won't boot past the glowing logo screen.

2. Windows won't load the desktop and may stuck at a black screen with mouse cursor.

3. Very slow booting.

4. Booting stops with one of the following BSOD screens.

STOP 0x07A KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR

STOP 0x0ED UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

STOP 0x07B INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

STOP 0x0F4 CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION

5. Booting stops with an error message complaining \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM is missing or corrupt.

However those symptoms can be also caused by other issues. So i would recommend running a full diagnostics of the disk by using "Seagate Seatool" which supports all manufacturer's hard drives.

hi john12,

Just to verify, is your machine type included in the list below? If not, this is most likely the reason why the BIOS update won't continue.

Flash BIOS update - 3000 J100 (type 8252, 8253, 8254, 8453, 8454, 8455)

You can find the MTM (Machine Tpe Model) printed on the tower or by typing dxdiag on a command prompt / run dialog box.

My system suffered a power outage and now I can't log on to XP. As soon as I type a key, the mouse freezes and the only option I have is to shutdown via the power off switch. Luckily this is still detected and Windows shuts down cleanly. The system is still running in the background as I can access the shared drives from another machine on the lan and the mouse works fine until I hit a key at the password prompt, then I can do nothing.

What I have tried:
Tried booting into safe mode - same problem.
Going into BIOS - the keyboard works fine.
Booting with a DOS diskette - the keyboard works fine.
Booting into the recovery console - the keyboard works fine - tried copying the previous system hive from the last restore point but no joy.
Installed a second copy of XP on another drive and this works fine, including all the hardware drivers for the MOBO (SATA, Sound, Lan) which says to me that the hardware is ok and that Windows is screwed.

This is a large system with 4 HDDs of over 500GB and has lots of programs installed, so any suggestions as to how I can recover from this without a full re-install will be much appreciated!

For info system is as follows:
MOBO: ASUS K8VSE Deluxe with Athlon64 3200+ and 1GB ram.
Display Adapter: Saphire Radeon 9600 Atlantis 256MB AGP
60GB PATA drive on primary IDE channel as Master with OS.

Answer:Cannot type logon password - system freezes

Sounds like a good candidate for an repair installation. Boot to your XP cd, press ENTER at the first set of options (don't select R-Recovery Console). Then, you'll have to agree to the license (F8) ... After that you'll see an option to repair an existing install. Press R, select the install (should be the only one) and let 'er rip. This will reinstall XP without loss of programs or data. If you see any option to select or format a partition you went too far/missed an option. Reboot and try again.

I've been thinking about this lately and it doesn't seem logical for a email server to run on FAT32 or even NTFS. Text based emails are noramllly aroud 1 to 2kb so if they were using NTFS and each email was stored as a separate file, then each email would waste around 2kb of the server's HD. This seems like a massive waste of space. Does anyone know what kind of file system they use?

Answer:What type of file system does a Email server use?

the 'email server' will use whatever filesystem the host operating system is using....will it not? I would say if you are THAT worried about disk space usage, AND you have that high of a volume of email coming into your server, you ought to look into buying some 160gb IDE drives off of newegg for your mail server

Hello, and thanks in advance for any help.

My problem is this, I have a dell XPS that I bought two years ago or so, running windows 7. Not too long ago, it started crashing at apparently random times, bringing me to a blue screen of death (I do not know what the specific blue screen message was). It would start up again fine, usually. Before I had the time or patience to sitting down and remedying this, it seemed to crash for good. I received a blue screen I'd death, it shut down, and when I turned it back on, it immediately took me to a screen with a blue box asking for a "system password". Not only did I not set a system password, but the computer does not appear to be registering my mouse or keyboard at all, and I have tried several of each in various USB ports. So, are there any suggestions in how to go about repairing this? Data recovery is not a priority, so much as getting the computer running again. Is there hardware I should replace?

So, my original issue was that after installing an ubuntu partition on my computer, windows 7 would not go to sleep. After research I presumed this was caused by GRUB being installed in the windows MBR. I then made a system repair disk to run the fix boot and fix mbr commands. However, when I boot from the repair disk no operating systems are listed under the recovery option. If I try and proceed anyway to the command prompt, it won't let me type in the command prompt. I am unsure of what I should try next. I can still access my regular Windows 7 partition fine though.

Answer:Can't type in Command Prompt in System Recovery

Most Linux boot loaders save a copy of the MBR when installed. The boot loader, such as grub, should have a means to replace the MBR with the copy of the original. I'd ask on a grub user forum since the fix may be way simpler than doing it from the Windows side. Grub should know where it stored the MBR backup.

Hopefully this is the place i need to be to post this question, if not, I'm sorry, I am very new to all this, so thanks for reading and trying to help me ;0)

So I have recently become an attic to the world of MMORPG's and have become an absolute World of Warcraft addict and want to play Aion when it comes out in a few weeks. I have playing for almost a year now on a very old Dell which could barely handle WoW, so I decided to invest in something mid price range for gaming knowing i might need to upgrade a few things for optimal game play. The system was actually working great for WoW when I first got it two weeks ago, no lag what so ever in major cities of WoW, with at least 60 fps in heavliy poplated areas on up in questing areas on totally maxed out settings in the game. I was so happy with the system that I purchased a large new 25" monitor a few days ago to upgrade from my old 15" one. Well, now my fps is way down and I'm bumed out and thinking that I need to upgrade my video card because i went with such a big monitor. Hopefully someone can reccomend one that I will be able to afford so my brother or boyfriend can install it. After buying a new system and a nice new big monitor to match I really only have $100 - $150 to spend on it, but I'm willing to go up to $200. If anyone could help me out I would really appricate it! Here are my system specs (i'm readding off the box so if I missed something please let me know ;0)

Hello,

Thank you in advance to anyone that tries to help.

I've been trying to fix my mums computer for a couple of weeks. It is quite old for a laptop, about 6 years old, It may just need replaced due to age but when its on it actually runs pretty decent. My problems began when trying to make it run faster as it was getting the eggtimer when trying ot do anything at all on it. It runs faster now after It completed a few scans and quarantined a few things, then all of a sudden started crashing when trying to run any scans at all. Ive tried to run chkdsk, & im not sure if this completes because when I've ran it its just before I've went to bed and its sitting at the log in screen when I get up in the morning. I've ran avast boot scan and thats crashed and any another type of scan malware or sfs /scannow crashes it even in safe mode. It crashes after about 5 minutes into the scans. Iv'e tried to run the online antivirus scanners but the laptops crashes with them too. The computer did have a problem trying to come out of hibernation due to WD security, this has been uninstalled now.

Any type of idea on what to do would be great as I am stumped.

I realise it could be a virus stopping the scans, but without the scans being able to run to remove it i have no idea what to do now.

Many thanks,
Nicola

Hi

When I want to chat andI double click on of my 'online' contacts in MSN Messenger, I am unable to type to him/her because the dialogue box is grayed out. It also says in the conversation frame...

'INSERT A NAME HERE' is having network problems and is no longer in the conversation. The last few messages may not have been received.

This happens with all of my contacts. I know it's not them with the problem because when I use my roomates MSN messenger, I can chat with anyone with no problem. It is only on my computer that I can't chat on.

I have uninstalled and installed many times. Same thing.

It all started when my ex-roomate downloaded the new version of MSN Messenger. It was perfectly fine when I had the old version. I don't remember which version it was but I do remember it had a different look to the current one right now.

Any Suggestions?????

Hi Everyone,

Randomly, my lap top running Windows Vista, on boot  up started saying "Checking file system on C: The type of the files system is NTFS. Volume label is S3A6688D007". It then advises me to allow a disk check for consistency. It runs through the check, deletes a bunch of files and then recovers and restarts. Once Windows boots I usually either cannot click on any icons in the tool bar or desk top and a lot of times I loose any mouse or keyboard response, resulting in having to shut down via the power button. I have ran through the process multiple times over the last few weeks and am making no head way what so ever. Can anyone offer me some advise as to what I should do to fix this issue? Thanks!

Answer:Checking File System on C: The type of the file system is NTFS

It sounds like you have some corruption in some of your Windows files. As a first step run SFC then Chkdsk.

To run SFC click 'Start - All programs - Accessories' then RIGHT click on 'Command prompt' and select 'Run as administrator from the pop-up menu that appears. You will get a black window with white text and a blinking underscore at the end of the text. Then type 'sfc /scannow' (without the ' ', and note the space between 'sfc' and '/scannow') then press the enter key. The system will now scan for corrupted files and attempt to repair them. Let it run until it has finished - this can take up to an hour depending on your system - then re-boot and see if you still have the problem.

If you do, run 'chkdsk /r'. Start off exactly as above but type 'chkdsk /r' at the prompt (again, no ' ' and note the space before the '/'). You will get a message saying it cannot run but will at next boot. Re-boot the computer and let it run. Yes, this is very similar to what your computer is doing at the moment but the '/r' instructs the computer to try to repair any problems. When it finishes it will probably re-boot, if it doesn't, re-boot anyway.

Hopefully this will fix the problem. If it doesn't post back.

Checking file system on C: The type of the file system is NTFS. One of your disk needs to be checked for consistency. You can cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended that you continue. To skip disk checking, press any key within(10)seconds.

It then says the disck can not be checked due to recently installed software. The thing is I haven't installed anything in 3 months.

I manage to get on to the computer and it is extremely slow, I managed to get it working fast enough to get my university work off of it but it has gone back to being very slow, often freezing.

I have tried starting it in safe mode and and a list of disks come up and it never gets past this point.
I just started it up and it managed to let me into system repair. It is now attempting repairs. Does any one know how long this will take and whether or not it works?
I think I may need to take it in to a repair store.
Would appreciate any help.
Thank you.

Hello. I want to find out why Windows does this cheking to my Memory Card. It happened while booting. After "Checking file system on D:
The type of the file system is FAT32." and other stuffs like: "Unrecoverable error in folder \System Volume Information\catalog.wci.", or "\Sounds\FosterThePeople-PumpedUpKicks(ButchClancyRMX).mp3 first allocation unit is not valid. The entry will be truncated." and "Cross link resolved by copying.
\Images\IMG00502-20121218-1525.jpg is cross-linked on allocation unit 6984." After this proces Windows started normaly. I've cheked my documents on the card and found out that some images were damaged and some old music appeared, but only samples, from about 18 seconds to 56. I foud, also, a "BOOTEX.LOG" file, written in Notepad. Could you explain what happened, please? &sorry if there are some bad spelled words.

Answer:Checking file system on D: The type of the file system is FAT32

It perhaps got removed incorrectly while some programs still had the file data open/in memory. I'd pull everything off the card, format it, and put the data back.

What is the card in? Does it have to be FAT32? Could you use ExFAT instead?

I would like to say thanks to Tuus for his assistance in obtaining a replacement system board for our T61 that had a failed nvidia chip.  We missed the Lenovo deadlines and were on our own, Tuus made it easy. He supplied a board with the Intel chip set and the fan/heat sink.  When the board arrived I pulled the unit down to nothingness and rebuilt. It took about 2 hours form start to finish. I looked at the lenovo repair training videos for a few wire routings and generally everything went well.   One item of note is our unit is a wide screen and it has 4 screws for the hinge.  The video does not show two of the four, but it was not a big deal to find the empty holes. The board booted and I set the requisite bios settings and we were off and running. The graphics came right up no problem even though drives were not loaded.  I let it update through the thinkvantage update and windows update.  Took an eternity (note to self run the thinkvantage update more frequently).  The Intel gpu drivers did not automatically load, so I went to the lenovo downloads and installed them manually.  No big deal. The machine is up and running and the Intel gpu is more than adequate for our needs. To those who have some ability, do not be afraid to go this route.  It is doable and you can save an otherwise nice piece of equipment.

Answer:T61 type 7662 system board replacement- thanks Tuus

Hi All,  I had a hard drive crash on my R50 (1836-3SU) several months ago.  Being one of the few (?) who didn't first create a Recovery CD, I loaded WinXP on a new drive, then loaded the appropriate utilities from Lenovo.  I've noticed that, when either having the Lenovo website detect my laptop or when invoking ThinkVantage System Update locally, neither can detect the type and model of my machine.  It invariably comes up with 0123456 or 0123-456 as the type/model. (Must be a null or default value...)  I've scratched around a little to see if I can force the proper information into a registry setting or config file but I've had no luck finding anything.  Is there a way to set the proper machine type/model for proper detection by the Lenovo website?   Thanks!

Solved!

Answer:R50 System Update - Machine type and model wrong

I'd also like to know how to correct this.  When Lenovo changed the system updating procedure from Access Connections(?) to System Update roughly at the end of 2007, my machine type and model also changed to '0123-456'  . I have been unable to get a single update since.

I was reading in the Technet library about the system reserved partition and how it should be set to partition type id 0x27. Would I be able to do this after windows installation?
I have extended the partition to 300mb instead of the usual 100mb. It is currently type 0x7 NTFS (Unmounted).
I have been using Minitool Partition Wizard to handle my partitions and I can set the ID type with that.
Would there be any benefit to changing it? And would it have any impact on the system if I did change it?

Hello, thanks for looking,

I have a Windows 7 Home Premium 64 laptop with a single user on it. This user recently got changed to a guest account type from admin account type and I can't fix it.

I have read all the guides to "enable hidden administrator account" using "net user administrator /active:yes" but it doesn't work from regular command prompt (ie not run as administrator, can't get past UAC), safe mode command prompt, or system recovery command prompt.

I have also tried to disable UAC via system recovery command prompt by running regedit and doing the equivalent of this: "C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /k %windir%\System32\reg.exe ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v EnableLUA /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f" Obviously I can't change this from a safe mode command prompt because my user doesn't have the privileges. When I boot into safe mode, it automatically logs me into the user, there is no option for anything else.

I should also mention that Ive tried this as well: Built-in Administrator - Enable from WinRE

Method 1, after typing enableadmin <enter> I got the error "The subsystem needed to support the image type is not present".

Method 2, the load hive option was greyed out.

I am certain that tutorial is ALMOST what I need but they didn't work. Any thoughts?

Unfortunately nothing will work that requires an administrator account or adminstrator console. I believe my user problem... Read more

Answer:Change user account type from System Recovery

What happens when you try to enable the original account or set up a new one with Admin rights in Control Panel>User Accounts?

Have you tried enabling the hidden administrative account using an Elevated Command Prompt? Elevated Command Prompt

If these won't work then try System Restore to before the problem began: System Restore Try it first from Windows and then from the DVD Repair console or Repair CD, or try tapping F8 at bootup to see if Repair console is on Advanced Boot Tools menu. System Repair Disc - Create

I would also try SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker and if necessary a Repair Install if you have access to a Win7 install DVD.

If all of these fail, then you may have messed up your system beyond repair. See if you can make your Recovery Disks if you haven't already, then back up your files and run full Factory Recovery from Windows, or by tapping the F-key given on the first boot screen or in the Manual on the Support Downloads webpage for your laptop model.

If you have access to a Win7 DVD, you can clean reinstall using these tips: re-install windows 7

Hi guys,

I have a Gigabyte Brix S, a NUC type machine running an i5 5200U SOC, with 8GB DDR3L and a Samsung Evo 840 msata. I have had it about 3 days!

I have installed Windows 7 Home Edition 64 Bit, MS Office, Avast Anti Virus and other tools.

I was using the machine a few moments ago, writing an email as it happens, with a few Google Crome windows open and a MS Office Word Document open too, and the machine gave me a BSOD.

I have followed the instructions at the top of the forum and have attached my zip file for your perusal.

Any help you can give me will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Answer:Random BSOD with Gigabyte Brix S (NUC type system)

Welcome to 7F.

The single dump in your logs is showing a 0x124 which indicates a hardware error. Unfortunately, as with the vast majority of 0x124s it doesn't indicate what the exact problem is. The only way to identify the issue is to run a series of hardware stress tests and diagnostics.

STOP 0x124 Troubleshooting

Read carefully before proceeding.

   Warning
If you're overclocking your system, revert back to stock clocks now.

   Note
Test the system once the overclock is removed before continuing with the steps outlined below.

ONE

 CPU TEST

Run Prime95 to stress test your CPU. Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95

   Warning
Your CPU temperatures will rise quickly while under this stress test. Keep a keen eye on them.

TWO

 RAM TEST

Run MemTest86+ to analyse your RAM. RAM - Test with Memtest86+

MemTest86+ needs to be run for at least 8 passes for conclusive results. Set it running before you go to bed and leave it overnight. We're looking for zero errors here. Even a single error will indicate RAM failure.[/note]

THREE

 HDD TEST

Run SeaTools to check the integrity of your HDD. SeaTools for DOS and Windows - How to Use

Run chkdsk Disk Check

FOUR

 GPU TEST

Run Furmark to stress test your GPU. Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

   Note
Run Furmark for around 30 minutes.

Earlier today one of your members was kind enough to help me remove the DNSUnlocker malware that has infiltrated my system. Previous to that I had run AdwCleaner, Malwarebytes, Junk Removal, eScan, and others, removing a lot of junk in the process. This morning while browsing through my temp files I found an entry with the file type "DealEExpress", which looked very much like the names of some of the malware I had just nuked.

On a whim I decided to run a search for that name, and it brought up 40 entries of that file type (see screencap), all of various sizes and in all sorts of innocuous places like iTunes, Photoshop Plugins, and The Sims 2.

Would it be safe to just manually delete these? None of my virus scans picked them up, but they don't seem right to me.

Thanks very much for your help.

Answer:DealEExpress, Unknown File Type found in many folders on System

Or run TFC...Empty your temp folders using TFC (Temporary File Cleaner)Please download TFC by Old Timer and save it to your desktop.alternate download linkSave any unsaved work. (TFC will close ALL open programs including your browser!)Double-click on TFC.exe to run it. (If you are using Vista or above, right-click on the file and choose "Run As Administrator".)Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process and let it run uninterrupted to completion.Important! If TFC prompts you to reboot, please do so immediately. If not prompted, manually reboot the machine anyway allowing Windows to load normally (not into Safe Mode) to ensure a complete clean.

I was going to junk this and then I remembered I need some files that are stored on it. When it trys to start, it goes to the IBM logo screen with F1 and F12 notes as normal.  Then it goes to black screen with Windows opening progress bars (in white) (normal) for about three bars then it pops up the message: "WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEMced missing or corrupt""to repair this file restart and enter 'r' at the first screen." I have not been able to get it to recognize 'r' at any screen. I have the original CD from IBM which spins up but it will not boot from it. The Windows key is for W98 but it was running W2000  NT . I have a set of floppy rescue disks I made from AVG and when I try to start with them it goes to a Dos window and I get the message: NTLDR is missing. I have tried Safe Mode, Safe Mode with command prompt and both go to Windows 2000 professional screen as the only next step. It then goes back to the first error message. Does anyone have any suggestions or should I take this out behind the barn and end its misery? Thanks,Ibrokeit

Answer:A21p Type 2629 missing or corrupt Config System

Welcome to the forum! It seems to me that your hard drive has crashed beyond redemption. What you may try to do is to borrow/download a copy of a "live" Linux CD, boot from it and try to access the files from there. And I'm pretty certain that if you choose to get rid of that A21p, many schools would be more than happy to accept is as a donation...of course, it's yours and you can do with it whatever you choose to...Good luck and keep us posted.

They seemed to have started after i tried moving my battlefield 3 files from my Intel 520 SSD to another HDD. Now I can't figure out how to get them to stop.

Answer:BSODs of just about every type: pool header, NTFS file system, etc

What did you use to run diagnostics on the SSD? Also, it's been a while since you posted this. Are things still stable with the removed stick of RAM?

The crashdumps themselves are inconclusive. I'm not able to ascertain nor suspect anything with them. More accurate crashdumps can be made if you turn on Driver Verifier and let that crash your system a few times.

As for the SSD drive, have you updated its firmware, and have you also updated the BIOS and chipset drivers for your motherboard? All three of these have the potential to cause instability with an SSD installed due to compatibility issues. Make sure they're taken care of.

I am operating with windows xp. Every time I start my computer I get this error. I hit the ok and the computer works as though nothing has happened. It doesn't stop me from doing anything that I've noticed yet. I've recently installed Microsoft Office and
my email was switched from Outlook Express to Microsoft
Outlook. I found this error on the searches but it was for the
windows 98 version. I tried the resolution that was suggested
with the start, run <B> ms config </B>, ok, start up tab but I
received an error for this.
I hope you can help.
Thanks

Can anyone tell me if their system folders in Vista x64 remain hidden from normal apps that have their own file manager?

Here's the issue: I've unchecked the hide boxes in folder settings and can see all the files in my C:\Windows\System32\Drivers directory within Windows Explorer and within any File Open or File Save dialog. I can also do a DIR command in a console window and see everything. However, when I run an app that uses its own file manager (WinSCP in this case), most of the files go missing and I only see two directories and two files.

WinSCP is a 32-bit app, so this may be a security "feature" in Vista x64, but it's not one I've ever heard of, or have been able to google. Can anyone else verify this behavior on their system? (This does NOT happen in Vista 32-bit BTW).

Answer:Vista x64 system files hidden from file manager type apps?

The System32 folder in 64-bit Windows actually contains the 64-bit files, and 32-bit programs running under WOW64 would generally go looking in System32 for the 32-bit DLLs etc. that they can call - but they'll find the 64-bit ones instead. Therefore the OS redirects all 32-bit applications' requests for the System32 folder to the SysWOW64 folder, which contains 32-bit system files.

However, there is a way to see the native System32 folder in 32-bit applications in Vista x64 (not XP x64). Create a folder called 'C:\Windows\Sysnative' and use that instead of System32 in your 32-bit programs. 64-bit programs will see it as empty, but 32-bit programs will see the contents of your System32 folder.

(Note that applications may use the API to disable this redirection, which some 32-bit file managers aware of 64-bit Windows may do, and you'd see the folders normally then.)

Im trying to create a text to ASCII binary conversion in Visual C++ and as I don't really work with Windows forms and specifically "System::String" am wondering what would be the quickest way to convert it to binary? I thought about using the bitset header from the std library but it wasn't written for system strings I would have to pass the data through multiple variable types before I got to the right one and was wondering if there was a simpler way?

Answer:Solved: textbox System::String to binary (V C++)

ahh solved it using pointers and a bit of intuition not happy it took me that long to work that out..
