Preferred Solution: VGA card on Sleep Mode

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: VGA card on Sleep Mode

The "sleep mode activated" message is normal on the monitor if it is receiving no signal from the PC (VGA card). You need to connect it to on board VGA and tell your system which card to use (or which order) in the BIOS. I cannot tell you how to get into BIOS since I do not know your PC brand/model.

I have Vista Home Premium 64 bit. If I put the PC to sleep for anything over say an hour upon starting up again I need to do a restart for Vista to initiate my wireless card. It knows it is there as it says 'Edimax wireless card no exist', yes it's grammar is none too good. Anything less than an hour doesn't need a reboot.
Any ideas?

Thanks

Good day to all!

I have this problem about my onboard network drive. It is functioning last Tuesday, but now, it is not functioning. My modem indicates that it is connected to the internet but the icon tray indicator shows otherwise. My aunt that stays in the house said that there is a power shutdown that day because of the storm, and I left my PC on because I am downloading something. I tried to check Device Manager for the Network Adapter to confirm if it is only a driver problem but suprisingly, there is no Network Adapter installed. I also tried to install the Realtek driver (I am sure that my onboard network adapter is Realtek), but unfortunately, an error says "The Realtek Network Controller was not found. If deep sleep mode is enabled, please plug the cable.". What will I do to disable that Deep Sleep Mode?

P.S. I borrowed a network card from a friend of mine and tried if it will work. it turns out that it is working so my assumption is that network part of my motherboard is the faulty one.

Thanks to all who will help.

I have a very annoying problem with my laptop. I have a Dell XPS M1530 and I put Windows 7 professional on it. I have set it that every time I close the lid, the computer goes into sleep mode. When I open my lid, it goes onto the log in screen. Once I log in, it recconects to my router. It says it connects to the router, but doesn't connect to the internet. I then restarted my wireless card, due to an on/off button on the side my of laptop, and once restarted, it connected to my router and still, no internet. I then proceeded to restart my router. Once completely restarted, it shows up in the list of connections I have to choose from, but doesn't automatically connect. Then I double clicked on my router to have my latop connect to it, then it proceeds to tell me that it was unable to connect. Once I completely restart my computer (3 minutes time wasted) it connects fine. I tested the router out on another latop I have at my disposal and during this entire process, it stays connected to both the router and the internet, while mine does not. My basic question it: how come my laptop disconnects from the internet, but not the router, almost every time I bring it out of sleep mode? If I could fix that, then it would save me a lot of time overall; thanks for any help!

Answer:Wireless Card problems after restarting from sleep mode

Hello,

You may want to download and update your Wi-Fi card's driver.

Also, disable any power saving mode from the adapter itself from Device Manager.

Hi PC tech heads,
Here is a testing one for you as I am completely stumped.
First of all, below is the setup of the build I just completed.
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
Intel Core i5 4670K @ 3.40GHz
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz
Phillips 274E5 Monitor ([email protected])
Saphire R9 280X Toxic 3G 5DDR5
1863GB Seagate ST2000DM 001-1CH164 SCSI Disk Device (SATA)
2 Intake fans on a 2 way splitter
2 exhaust fans on a splitter
1 intake fan
cpu cooler with x2 fans
Cooler Master GX 650W bronze power supply
My pc has been running fine using the built in graphics on the cpu, everything was running ok until I decided to get some thing more powerful. I have just installed a Saphire Toxic R9 280X, it has been running fine and I was impressed by its results.
The problem.
1) My monitor keeps going into sleep mode and says there is nothing detected, it happened a few times at first, now its permanent. I have plugged the HDMI back into the motherboard to use the onboard graphics instead.
Would this be something to do with the psu not being powerful enough, Saphire recommend a 750W power supply or could the gpu be faulty.... I'm totally lost.
All drivers are up to date.
Please help someone, I'm pulling my hair out here.
Many thanks
Scott

Answer:Monitor goes into sleep mode after installing a new graphics card

Usually the recommended PSU for cards is the minimum. MechKB 2 should be able to give you better advice if he pops in.
Try reseating the card again and check the power connection/s to it. If all is sound, it's a possibility the card is defunct and you should contact the seller.

My network card wakes my computer from sleep mode. I have disabled all of the wake on lan options for it under device manager -> network card. I also disabled wake timers for sleep mode under advanced power options. Before I did both of those things it would wake immediately after entering sleep mode. Now it wakes after about 30 seconds. Any suggestions?

Answer:Network card wakes computer from sleep mode.

Hello Rob,

You could use any of the options in the tutorial below to hopefully prevent this device from being able to wake the computer.

HiI am trying to get support to fix my laptop, a Lenovo T430S. When I put my laptop to sleep, it crashes and doesn't recover from the sleep mode. I have updated most of the drivers involved with network, power management, and USB. I have copy and pasted the BSOD crash report - which shows TCPIP.SYS a isnd NTOSKRNL.EXE involved in a Drive_Power_State_Failure. I feel that some of the drivers are corrupted. Is there a way to restore the drivers to original settings without deleting files such as documents and programs? I do not have a restore point prior to this malfunction. So I have backup my computer with  windows backup software. Can I do a system restore (to original setting) and just recover my files from the backup? 101015-45287-01.dmp 10/10/2015 4:07:59 PM DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE 0x0000009f 00000000`00000003 fffffa80`071d7a10 fffff800`00b9a3d8 fffffa80`0dcdf680 tcpip.sys tcpip.sys+186c10 x64 ntoskrnl.exe+735c0 C:\Windows\Minidump\101015-45287-01.dmp 4 15 7601 1,225,960 Thanks in advance!Sincerely,Jason

Hi,
I have my new PC for a 4 months, everything worked perfect till one morning I turned it on, and the monitor (SAMSUNG) tried to detect the graphic card (ASUS R9 290) without any success and turned to sleep mode. The monitor works without problems with another PC or Laptop. I connected the VGA card to my tv LG, and it works without problems, after when I connected it back to my monitor, it works, but not stable, in the screen resolution properties it doesn't recognize the monitor, it's going in safe mode for any entering to game, installing some program or restarting of the computer. I tried to put my GTX 650 into that slot (there are 2 slots for graphic cards, and I tried both of them) instead of R9 290, and everything works without problems. So I decided to connect my GTX 650 that works perfect to x16 slot, and the R9 290 to x8 slot... connecting the monitor to GTX650, it detect also the R9 290 without any problems, but when I disconnect the monitor from the GTX650 and connect to R9 290, the monitor going to safe mode again. I tried all these connections with many different cables (all the cables are in working condition).
If somebody can help me, I will be grateful
Thanks

This issue has been ongoing for months, ever since I purchased the computer in November. Microsoft basically abandoned my issue and I personally have not been able to solve it myself.

I am using an ASUS K55N laptop, equipped with an AMD A8-4500M APU, 4GB single-channel RAM, and of course, Windows 8 standard x64.

Occasionally, anywhere from an hour to three days after a boot-up, the computer will hang while in sleep mode (screen will be off but indicator lights will remain on for about 5 minutes in sleep mode) and shut off. Upon restarting, I'll be greeted by a "Your PC ran into a problem and had to restart" Windows prompt. Of course, a minidump will also be produced. However, there is no BSOD anywhere to be found.

Upon looking into these dump files with WinDbg, all of them point toward my Atheros AR9485 wireless card's driver; either athw8x.sys or athrx.sys depending on the driver I was using at the time. I have tried several Atheros drivers, to no avail. I have tried using new drivers, old drivers, Windows 7 drivers, you name it. At this moment, I am using a Windows 7 driver. Yet, it has not solved the issue.

Verifier is disabled, although I believe my issue can be attributed to debugging. I have literally tried everything and it persists. Please help me with my issue.

Attached are my SF diagnostics tool logs.

I did a clean install of Windows 8.1 recently. Now when my computer wakes up from sleep I receive a DRIVER_IRQ_NOT LESS_OR_EQUAL BSOD related to cmudaxp.sys, which I've discovered is related to my Asus Xonar Essence STX sound card. I am running the Windows 8.1 beta drivers directly from Asus's website, and the drivers were working fine before my clean install. What could be causing this problem now, after everything was fine before?

Specs:

MOBO: MSI Z87-G45
CPU: Intel i7 4770k
RAM: Kingston HyperX Black 8GB 1600Mhz
GPU: Asus GTX680 DirectCuII Top Edition

I am running a HP P6228p desktop Win7 64bit Home Premium with all MS and HP updates applied. I installed a 2-port Sabrent PCI USB3 card, installed the driver for it from the web (Win7 failed to find an appropriate driver on its own) and moved my Iomega USB2 external HD from a USB2 port where if functioned perfectly to one of the new USB3 ports. When I boot - no problems - but every time my PC awakes from sleep mode an autoplay window pops up asking me if I want to open the folder on the Iomega drive to view the contents. How can I stop this behavior on the USB3 port without screwing up autoplay/autorun for other things? In other words, how can I set the Iomega to not go into autoplay (when coming out of sleep mode) when on the USB3 port? btw - the only data on the Iomega drive are the data created by MS Backup.

1/21 - Oh c'mon guys. I know that one of you really Windows-smart people knows the answer. Help!

Answer:USB3 card - USB2 Iomega HD - autoplay issue from sleep mode

OK
Sabrent support admitted that when Windows has the PC in Sleep Mode, the ASMedia chip on the card does not trickle enough current to keep the external hard drive alive, so when the PC is awakened, the HD causes AutoPlay to pop. There is no fix or reasonable workaround. So, I've returned the card to Frys and uninstalled the USB3 driver. The Sabrent card is the only USB3 upgrade card sold by Frys in their Austin store. Next, I think I'll try the Western Digital 2-port PCIx-USB 3.0 card which uses NEC chips & which also does not require an additional power cable. The many Amazon customer reviews I read about the WD card were very good, but the Amazon price of $37 will probably keep me waiting for a sale because I don't yet own any USB3 devices anyway. Also, I'm waiting for the price of WD's My Book 2TB or 3TB external HD to come down.

Hi all,

I still have the problem, that my new Portege R500 with Vista SP1 is not reacting any more when reading / writing to a SD Card. This happens only, when the SD Card is plugged and I wake up the R500 from sleep. All read or writes to the SD card will lock the PC and the R500 must be switched off hard. I've tried this with different SD cards with always the same result. The R500 was freshly installed from the recovery DVD and even a installation from a Microsoft Anytime SP1 DVD shows the exact same behavior. All drivers are up-to-date, Bios 1.60. I also tried to remove the entry in the device manager and reinstalled it.

I found at the Microsoft site a patch, which is describing exactly this problem: [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936825|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936825]. But this patch cannot be installed in Vista SP1. Microsoft states, that this is already included in the Vista SP1. But it's still not working.

Any other idea? Or do I have to live with it?

Best regards,
Stefan

Answer:SD Card Reader Read Problem after Sleep Mode with Portege R500 SP1

Hello Stefan

I can imagine that this issue is pretty annoying for you but other way you can disconnect SD card when you do not need it anymore. I cannot imagine it must be inserted permanently.

I can imagine there is some conflict between Microsoft patches and Toshiba driver but such ?bugs? should be fixed by some Toshiba updates or Microsoft hotfixes. What to say? I am afraid at the moment you must live with it.

By the way: post please exact notebook model number and give some info about SD card (capacity). Maybe someone with the same notebook model and identical card can test it and post the results.

I've searched the forum as best I could and didn't find this issue being addressed. So, sometimes I listen to music with the headphones or even after a Skype call, I leave the headphone jack plugged in. If I put the laptop to sleep and wake it back up, unplugging the headphones will not return my sound setting back to the integrated speakers; I can only hear any sound if I plug the headphones back. I tried logging off and on again: no change. I tried to disable and re-enable "Realtek High Definition Audio" in Device Manager: no change. Uninstalling and re-installing it wouldn't be a proper solution if it had to be done all the time. The only thing that returns it back to normal is turning it off and on again... typical I.T. solution. Was there a driver update to fix this? Speaking of driver updates, I assume I can't find any BIOS update or any driver updates for the ideaPad due to the Sandy Bridge recall?? UPDATE: Sorry... found the consumer support lenovo sub domain site which is different from the IBM one... argh..

Hi,
I've had this problem intermittently on my laptop for the past 2 years however it has been occuring more often recently.

Basically sometimes when I click the sleep button on Windows 7, the screen fades to black as usual. However the fan keeps running (sounds like when it's on full load) and the power button light stays on endlessly. I always have to force shut it down and restart it.

What can be the issue?
Thanks.

Answer:Laptop freezes between entering sleep mode to being in sleep mode

Hi joseph10444.

Such a situation may occur when some driver (mostly the PnP device drivers depending on the ACPI configuration) fail to response within a stipulated time period during the power state change.

Let us see some data. Upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.
Click on the start button
Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.
Upload the list of all the third party drivers Using NirSoft DriverView :
Download and execute Driverview
View > Hide Microsoft Drivers
Edit > Select all
File > Save Selected Items
In the Save dialog, Set the path to desktop, Put "Driverview" in the name field, and save.
Zip the .txt file and upload it.
Those files will give us a closer look to the issue.

I got my XPS in 2014 and my service warranty finished in Jan 2015 before I installed Windows 10. So ever since I upgraded to Windows 10 I started having problems with by XPS 8700. Now I don't have any warranty. I thought once they released a BIOS update it would get better and it did for a while unfortunately within the past few months I have noticed two big issues.

1) Upon starting and restarting my computer my monitor does not end up receiving the signal from the pc and remains dark.
- I check that this is not an issue with the monitor by testing it with other pcs
- I checked in Device Manager and there was an Yellow Alert Next to Display Adapters/ NVIDIA GeForce GT 635
- Upon clicking on it showed me this: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

This unfortunately is not the only problem related to the graphics card.

2) My Sleep Mode has disappeared (It's related to Graphics and BIOS).
-  I have tried the to go in power setting to add it but it was not even listed.
-  I went into Command Prompt and looked up powercfg.exe This is what I found out:

Hello, I have a brand new Inspiron 15 7559 that is having some issues. First and foremost the keyboard is useless after the computer goes to sleep. This just started a few days ago, about a month after receiving it. The screen comes back on after opening the lid and the touch pad works fine. But no buttons on the keyboard produce any response. The keyboard becomes backlit like normal but does not produce anything on the screen when I try to put in my password/pin. I can click on the Ease of Access button and get the on screen keyboard to appear. This does work and allows me to input my pin. But that's no way for my laptop to run. And a laptop without a keyboard is pretty useless. My second problem is that my computer no longer sees my Nvidia dedicated graphics card. I only mention this here because I am not sure that the 2 issues are unrelated. I noticed a few days ago that the Nvidia icon was not in my system tray ( I think that's what it's called) like it normally is. So I opened it manually and it told me that it could not find a driver for this computer. That is odd because just the previous day I had been looking in the program and all was fine. So I followed the link to get a driver. I followed all the instructions on the Nvidia site and downloaded the driver for the card my computer came with. But when installing it a window popped up saying that no hardware could be found on my computer for that driver. Not sure why it doesn't see it.

I'm at the end of my wits here trying to figure out what is going on with my pc..

I have an overclocked pc, to 4.6 which has been rock stable.. sleep mode has worked fine.. i choose sleep and it stays asleep..

I decided to wipe my C drive on my samsung Evo ssd (no samsung software running).. and start clean.. i also tested this on my older test image, same issue..

If i choose sleep, it instantly comes back out of sleep (same with doing a shutdown too, though if i shutdown from bios no issue)..

I've tried everything.. i've tried viewing the wake events, nothing really there as a clue..
I've tried setting wake timers to disabled.. tried setting the nic card power management to off.. tried disabling the nic too.. saw that the mouse and keyboard are set to wake, set those to disabled for waking, no change.. tried pulling every usb from the machine.. still the same.

I've also tried updating via device manager various drivers, using the update button, some did update, but made no difference

Some of the commands i've used include:
powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
powercfg /requests

Also ran the sleepstudy option, but when it says woke up, cause is "unknown"
Again, this all worked fine about 10 days ago on the old OS, its the new one giving it fits (and technically my older test win 10 image too for some reason).

I went into the bios and disabled the overclock for the most part, basically took my ratio from 46 to 43 (i7-6700k).. same ... Read more

My SL500 (using Vista) has an intermittent problem, it will enter sleep mode, when you  press a key it exits sleep mode, but within a minute (sometimes longer) it will automatically re enter sleep mode, this will then continue indefinitely. If I restart the laptop the same issue will persist, although sometimes if I remove the battery and power lead once the laptop is shut down and then re connect the power and start it the sleep mode will sometimes function correctly (can't definitely say it always does). The problem is not constant, it has happened repeatedly during the last two days, but before these incidents there were no problems for months.I read that some laptops had issues with the processor overheating and this can cause the laptop to power down, although the lap top had only been on for 30 minutes before the problem started.I wondered if anybody else has had this issue or knows of a fix or knows of any software settings that require adjustment?ThanksJon

Hi, I'm having problems on a system with a gigabyte MA78GM-US2H and a amd 9850 quad. The computer works fine but after I install symantec I can no longer get the computer to go to sleep, It just reboots and starts up again. When I remove it, the computer can go to sleep again. I have updated all of the drivers and the mobo bios but the problem is still here. Any ideas on what to do next? or maybe is there a free virus program out there I could use instead? I would rather not have to buy something different if I can avoid it. Thanks

Answer:Problems with Symantec and sleep mode, computer reboots instead of going to sleep

What program do you mean by "Symantec?" Symantec makes a ton of different antivirus softwares, among other things. Most of them are a pain in the ass, and your computer is better off without them. I think a lot of the guys on this forum recommend NOD32. I typically recommend Trend Micro, but to be honest I don't use any AV on my own machine. Be smart with your surfing, don't open attachments, and run a firewall. Makes it pretty damn hard to get a virus!

Hi KnightCa,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I'm really sorry to hear that your Lenovo W520 goes into sleep mode even after it has been disabled in Power management.

Go to Control panel - - >Power Options - - >Change plan settings (Choose the Power plan that you have selected) - - >Change advanced power settings - - >Adjust the settings under sleep and display as shown below.

Also, try doing a windows update and reinstallation of Power manager in your system.

If the above said didn?t help, try doing a registry editing.

1. Open the Start Menu. 2. In the white line (Start Search) area, type regedit and press Enter. 3. If prompted, click on Continue in the prompt. 4. When I leave my computer after a session, it automatically goes into sleep mode after a period of time and remains that way till I wake it up.

However when I manually put it to sleep ( via shutdown options) , it goes to sleep immediately but for only a while ( a few minutes) then it shows the desktop screen again. If I then leave it alone after it self awake , it goes back to sleep as described above.

Any idea why ?

Thanks

Answer:Auto sleep mode works but manual sleep does not

Hi,

Some softwares can stop the sleep request to work properly.

run cmd.exe as a admin (Click on start, type CMD, right click on CMD.exe and select run as admin)
then type the command
powercfg.exe /energy
This will generate a report that will show if any software is blocking the sleep request. Your next step would be to configure the software in control panel power options

My computer keeps shutting down after I put it into sleep mode, then when i start it back up it says that it shut down incorrectly. This does not happen all the time, only sporadically. Other times it will not go into sleep mode altogether! Interesting, I had this problem when I had Windows 7 but fixed it using this guide http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/63567-power-options-sleep-mode-problems.html

Does anyone know what could be causing these problems and how to fix them? Also, does anyone know if there is another guide that has been like the one above, which includes the ideal settings for sleep for windows 10?

Note: I went into command prompt and ran powercfg -a and noticed that since the update this has occurred:
Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.10240](c) 2015 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
C:\WINDOWS\system32>powercfg -a
The following sleep states are available on this system:
Standby (S3)

The following sleep states are not available on this system:

The system firmware does not support this standby state.
Standby (S2)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.

Answer:PC shutting down incorrectly/not going to sleep when put in sleep mode

I guess a lot of people are facing the same problem. My laptop also not shutting down, sleep or hibernating properly.
It just takes too long to hibernate, shutdown or even sleep. In my case, after sleep I cannot resume, it just a black screen and pressing anything doesn't do anything and I have to shutdown my laptop and restart again to use. So I set my laptop to never go to sleep or anything just so this doesn't happen.

I like to put my computer on sleep so I can just come back to where I left it, but the past few days when I put it on sleep the screen would just go black like it was asleep, but the computer was still on and running like I didn't put it in sleep. Then when I move the mouse to come out of sleep it says "locking computer" and goes to my password screen (which is what it should do before going to sleep). I don't think its in the power settings because I've checked there and played around with the settings (I'm not technically challenged so I don't think it's something that simple lol).

Also, my touchpad scroll feature does not work (and has not worked for quite some time). It comes back when I turn the computer off and on again, but I only do that a few times a week. I've tried reinstalling the touchpad firmware so that isn't the problem.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A215.

Answer:Computer Doesn't Sleep When In Sleep Mode

Back when I had that problem with my Toshibia Satellite, I had to turn off the Awake on LAN in the bios, because when the network is present it will want to wake up.. Just something to try, im sure other people will have other ideas, and hope one of them will do the trick :)

Why is my sleep mode not sleeping?  It seems like it is timed and the advanced settings do not work.  Is there an update or driver for windows 8.1 that I am not using?  How do you turn the timers off other than the advanced settings?  Why does sleep or hibernate mode not work?

Problem:
NTFS external hdd partition mounted in windows 7 desktop: ok
same partition mounted in windows 10 laptop: ok

windows 10 laptop went into sleep mode
I think i removed the usb drive without usb safe removal (either before/after wakeup)

not sure if windows 7 reported a need to repair the disk when I plugged it in then.

reconnect to windows 10:

windows 10 reports "Path is not accessible. ... file or directory is corrupted or not readable"
can't usb safe remove the drive in windows 10 (reports an unkown error)
disconnect the usb and connect the drive to windows 7 again
windows 7 reports partition needs repair
chkdsk reports only error and correction of Attribut BITMAP of MFT, and Volumebitmap
still partition is accessible without problem in windows 7

My brand new T530 comes with windows8, but I found a strange thing that it can 't enter sleep mode or hibernation mode, every time it will wake up immediately even I close the lid.  The battery will be ran out in several hours. Anybody has same problem?

Answer:T530 wakes up immediately after it entered sleep mode or hibernation mode.

Attempt to enter sleep or hibernation, then when it wakes up right after, go to Command Prompt and run "powercfg -lastwake". It'll tell you what woke up the system.

I've been using this Windows 7 Home system for some years. At first it used the CRT monitor I had for much longer than this system, then a used LCD monitor, now for the last six or eight months a larger used, but seemingly in excellent condition, Dell E228WFP.

My habit has been, for much longer than I've had the Win7 system, to manually put the system in sleep mode during the day when I expect to be away for any extended time. I turn it off if I will definitely be away for hours and turn it off over night.

The problem did not exist until this Dell monitor. I don't recall how soon after getting the monitor it started, probably not very long.

The system always come up working properly when first turned on but sometimes, when I awaken the system, the video is at a much lower resolution. Looking at the Windows Screen resolution, it says generic PNP monitor rather than the Dell. This is an annoyance but easy enough to fix, just click on Detect, and it switches back to the Dell at the higher resolution, the recommended 1680 X 1050, which is enough to suit me.

Starting perhaps six or eight weeks ago it sometimes instead woke up with a message
1: auto detect (analog input)
Cannot display this video mode
optimum resolution 1680 x 1050 60Hz

Sometime the first line instead says
2: Analog Input

The only way to get any video is to restart the system, which always came up correct from boot or reboot, just not from reawaken. If nothing was open when I put it to sleep, I can use the k... Read more

Hi there folks, I've recently been experiencing my R61 wake itself up from sleep. Weirder, it wakes itself up in presentation mode, so my resolution is much lower than my normal setup. I'm not sure what's going on here, but it is a bit of a hassle. Once awake, I am at the Windows XP login page and once I fingerswipe into my account, the display mode typically goes back to its normal settings. This is more of an inconvenience than anything. Does anyone have any insights? I've checked the display manager and I think everything is in order.  Thank you in advance!

Hello for the past 2 weeks I am facing a weird battery charging issue. Apparently the battery charges only while the laptop is on Sleep mode or Shut Down mode. It doesn't charge when powered on. The HP online support also does not have any answers. I have updated the BIOS and restarted the laptop countless times. The battery is not removable. Anybody else faced this issue and any solutions?  On a side note, Microsoft Excel crashes repeatedly since beginning. And the support has no answer to this too. Thanks for your help! Regards,Garry

Answer:Sleep mouse during sleep mode?

Hello Jack,

You might check using STEP SIX in the tutorial below as a guide to see if you have a "Power Management" tab to uncheck the "Allow to wake computer" option in it for you mouse in Device Manager.

Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems

If not, then you can use the STEP FIVE section to manually disable the mouse from waking up your computer.

Just be sure that you at least have the keyboard allowed to wake up the computer, or you will have to press the case power button to wake up your computer instead.

Hope this helps,

Most of the time sleep mode in vista 64bit works fine. I come home and my pc is off and I turn it on from keyboard or mouse. But today my PC was still running and the mouse and keyboard did not have power and would not do anything, leaving me with no image on monitor. Has this happened to anyone was this just a random thing? or will this always happen. I recently just got vista.

Answer:Odd sleep mode.

Yea, but that is because I use a USB KVM. I just switch the KVM to the other computer and back and it wakes up. Maybe go to device manager and under USB device properties you can set it so that USB doesn't go into sleep mode. Maybe that will fix it.

Answer:Sleep mode

So, you are using a shortcut to put your system in a sleep mode.
And you want a running program to be closed just before your system will get into a sleep mode?

Well, if you do not care about unsaved data (or if your program saves data automatically) I can write a cmd script for you, which upon its start will kill a particular PREDEFINED exe program or several programs running and after that it will put your system into a sleep or hibernation mod. Let me know if it will work for you.

Upon finishing my new PC, I decided to let Windows 7 update itself while I take a nap. After a half an hour I returned and rebooted the machine. Much to my horror, the integrated Ethernet had entirely ceased to function! Indeed, device manager no longer showed any LAN devices. Even more puzzling was the error message I received while trying to reinstall my motherboard's integrated LAN drivers:

The Realtek Network Controller was not found.
If Deep Sleep Mode is enabled Please Plug the Cable.Click to expand...

"Wait ... what?!", I immediately exclaimed aloud. A few Google searches later, the problem was made quite clear. Apparently, integrated devices on several motherboards tend not to wake up after Windows 7 goes into sleep mode. The precise cause eludes me, yet one easy solution is as follows:
Turn off the PC
Switch off the power switch at the back of the PC if it a desktop. Laptop owners simply unplug the power adapter.
Wait a few minutes while the capacitors lose their charge and the RAM clears.
Turn on the PC and verify that the LAN or whichever device was giving the deep sleep error now works. If not, then you could turn off the PC and remove the RAM for a minute. (Don't forget to touch the PSU before handling the RAM, though!)

Now that you've fixed the immediate issue, let's prevent it from happening again.
Open up Device Manager
Right click the device which formerly gave the error.

Sleep mode saves the session to RAM (which doesn't need much power to run) and turns off pretty much everything else. USB power and RAM is still powered. The power light should be blinking.

Either press a mouse/key or press the power button, and it'll turn on super-quick to where you left off.

I am currently using Windows Vista home premium on my laptop. I can make changes to sleep mode in power options, but no matter what I do, my computer goes to sleep in 20 minutes or so if I am not active. This really bugs if I am watching a movie or something similar. Any suggestions on how I can get my power options working again?

Answer:No changes in sleep mode

Remember that there is Sleep and there is Hibernation
Which one is kicking in at the 20 minutes mark?

Are you checking the settings of BOTH of these tools?

Could this be related to your other problems? If so, let's continue the discussion there - otherwise, try updating your video drivers to the latest version. That cures most of the failure to hibernate/sleep issues that I've seen.

I have a Dell laptop with Windows 10 on it. When it goes into sleep mode, if I swipe the touch pad within a few seconds it will come out of sleep mode. However if I'm not at the computer so that it is in sleep mode for a while, then when I swipe the touch to pad wake it up sometimes it will wake up but sometimes it won't. If it won't wake up then I have to use the power switch to shut it off and reboot it. Anybody know what's causing this and how to fix it?

Answer:Won't come out of sleep mode.

Does it wake up when you press the space bar or return key? The wake by mouse could have been changed by an update, because of being too sensitive.

My wifes computer seems to be stuck in sleep mode. When she first switches it on it goes to the advanced boot menu. As soon as you choose an option (any option, including safe mode)it simply goes back into sleep mode. Have tried a few of the simpler options like holding the power button down, checking all the cables etc, but it makes no difference. Is there any way that I can attempt to boot it up using the XP disk ?

Answer:Can't get XP out of sleep mode

You should be able to boot using the XP disc, but instead of installing Windows, try to do a troubleshooter from the disc.

Question: Sleep mode

Hey everyone,
So i hit sleep mode last night before bed, and have returned from uni to find my computer not booting. Powered on, but not booting. It was working fine last night.
When i power it on, all the fans start up normally, then a click, at which point BIOS would usually start. Instead, it powers down for a second, then powers up again a second time, and does nothing. Just sits running.
At no point do i get to BIOS,let alone windows. I dont get anything output on the screen at all. It just flashes the power light, which basically means there is no input coming from the PC.

Im running windows 7, 3.4Ghz intel dual core processor, 4GB RAM, ASUS P5Q-E motherboard 700 watt PSU, 8800GT graphics card, 3TB samsung HDD.

As i say, its been running flawlessly up until now, so sleep mode must have something to do with it. I have heard removing the CMOS battery could help, but i dont want to go diving onto the mobo without knowing what im doing.
Any help would be greatly appriciated.
Much love
-M

edit- im also aware this might be the wrong forum to be asking this, feel free to move it about if need be.

Answer:Sleep mode

Sounds like possibly a PSU, memory, or motherboard problem.

You can open the case and look for the round silver coin battery on the motherboard and use a screwdriver to pop it out and place it back in. This would be the bit about removing the CMOS battery.

I think your PSU is perhaps a trifle underpowered, not knowing the brand I'm not sure how reliable it is.

You can also try removing 2GB at a time of your RAM. If the computer boots when you have 2GB of RAM but not 3 or 4, then you have a bad memory stick.

I also wonder if there's a short somewhere on the motherboard. You can take a peek and see if any of the spacers between the board and the metal inside of the case are out of place.

Question: Sleep mode

Hi everyone.

Having trouble using sleep mode. The computer restarts itself straight away. I unplugged keyboard and it worked fine so this is seemingly the problem. I read in another post on here how to disable it. I used device manager but that didn't work so I'm trying to use the cmd feature which I'm not familiar with.

I used the command powercfg -devicequery wake_armed

This gave me a list but the keyboard wasn't on there so I ran the command powercfg -devicequery_wake_from_any which did show the keyboard as HID Keyboard Device <001>

I'm then not sure how to exactly type the command to disable this. I know it's powercfg -devicediablewake "device name" but I get an error so I think I'm not typing it exactly correct...

So can someone type the exact command that I need to use?

Really appreciate any help.

Thanks.

If I lock my computer (or leave my computer for 5 minutes to lock automatically) and turn off my monitor when I come back after a long while I turn on my monitor and nothing will show up. My tower's power light is on so I know my computer is not off, yet even after moving my mouse around and the colour of the light on my tower and monitor changes from orange to white, nothing is displaying. The monitor does not say it's not connected, or the message that it is going into powersave mode (message given when my computer is off) so I know everything is working fine. I assume my computer has gone into sleep mode, or whatever this mode is called, but I have no clue how to get passed this except by holding down the power button on my tower and then turning it back on.
Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Answer:sleep mode

Hi, Here's one option to check. From the Start Menu, select Settings, then Personalisation and then Lock Screen.  Near the bottom of this window, select Screen saver settings.  Make sure that the dropdown menu under the Screen saver heading is set to None ( if it already is, select another option and the select None again ) also remove the tick from the box next to 'On resume, display log-on screen' if present.  Click Apply and Ok to save changes. Regards, DP-K

Question: Sleep Mode Win 10

Hello, I know this issue has been addressed before, but I am still not sure about sleep mode. My question is regarding updating downloads and installing them while win 10 is in sleep mode? I have read that Win 10 will wake up if there are any installations ready. Is that true? What about the downloads. Will win 10 wake up from sleep mode for downloads also?

Thank You!

Answer:sleep mode

Hi, It's worth checking if the display is just being turned off after a certain period of inactivity - you can check this as follows. Right click on an empty area of the Desktop and select Personalize.  Click the Screen saver link in the bottom right.  In the following window you can adjust the time before the screensaver kicks in the  'Wait' dropdown menu to a more reasonable time and remove the tick from the box next to 'On resume, display log-on screen if you don't wish to have to enter the password again after the time you set in the 'Wait' box'.  Click Apply, then Ok to save the setting change. Regards, DP-K

Question: Sleep Mode

I cannot always get my computer to wake up by hitting a keyboard button. I will have to reboot is. Do I need to program in something? (Not to mention CTRL/ALT/DEL will not reboot my computer so I have to shut off and turn on again.)

Also, whenever my computer is off and I turn on again half the time it goes right into sleep mode. I have to use F8 while booting up and choosing Delete Restoration Data. Sometimes that does not even work.

I am also installing magic jack and apparently in sleep mode mj will not work. Can I program my computer to only go into sleep mode between say....10AM to 10PM?

Thanks - unfortunately I need some pretty detailed explanations and step by steps.

Question: Sleep mode?

Hi all, may be a daft question! but if you use sleep mode (I've never used it before) on a desktop PC, does the power needed to keep things ticking over in the background come from the mains power or the battery on the mobo?

The longest I'm away from the PC is about 17 hours, so is it worth using sleep mode rather than shutting it fully down?

Thanks

Answer:Sleep mode?

Hello Avo,

It will use a small amount of the main power while in sleep mode to keep the memory (RAM) intact.

The motherboard battery is only used to maintain the BIOS and time settings of the motherboard while the computer is not plugged in to the outlet, or when the PSU has been turned off.

Sleep mode is helpful by having your computer startup right where you left off since your last session, and is handy if you are off and on the computer often.

You could use both sleep or shutdown if you like. Use sleep when you will be off and on, and use shutdown when it will be a while before the next session to save some energy.

It's really up to you and how often you use the computer though.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

My daughters PC has gone into a perpetual sleep mode, even with hard power button off/on, completely unplugging the PC and waiting etc. It simply turns on into sleep mode and nothing will wake it. I'm not there so I'm having to get youngsters to mess with the hardware. This is a Win 7 PC with wireless mouse and wired USB KB. I've already tried to remove and replace the wireless mouse receiver into a different USB port to no avail.

How the heck does it stay in sleep mode without power!?! If I was there I'd pull the button battery as well to reset BIOS.

Supposedly this is WIN 7's fault with some setting. Once I get back control, I can try this hopefully

This is probably due to the Wake Timers. Wake Timers are a component that programmers can use to wake an idle system and peform a routine function.
Prior to Windows 7, the user had no control over this.
Windows 7 gives the user the option to disable or enable the sleep timers.
If you wish to change this setting.
Open Control Panel.
Select the All Control Panel Items option.
Select Power Options.
Click Change plan settings in the selected plan.
Click Change Advanced Power Settings.
Click the + sign next to Sleep.
Click the + sign next to Allow Wake Timers.
Select the Disable option.
Click Apply / OK.Click to expand...

when the computer comes out of sleep, there is a screen with a little square logo or picture and your name below it. Mine says "Brad locked". I don't want this screen to come up. After coming out of sleep mode, I want the computer to immediately go to the windows desktop.
How do you do that?

Answer:log in after sleep mode

Hello Sherwoodkiper,

You would need to change the Require a password on wakeup setting to No in your Power Options. The tutorial below can help show you how to if needed.

Password - Require on Wakeup

Hope this helps,
