Preferred Solution: Windows 7 built in webcam not working

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I was trying to use my Webcam on Skype and it said it wasn't working. So I checked the ArcSoft Webcam Campanion 3 to see if my camera was connected. It said "A webcam was not found or is not working properly. Please click Connect button and try again." So I click on the Connect button and it tells me "Camera not found. The camera is either being used by another application or is not connected. Make sure the cam is connected and working properly." I have no idea what to do!

My laptop is Sony Vaio and the model # is VPCEA33FX. I use Windows 7 Home Premium.

Answer:Built-in webcam not working...

Have a look in Device Manager at Control Panel >> Device Manager.
If there's an error symbol against an "Imaging Device" or "Camera" or something along those lines it will be the camera driver you probably need to re-install.

The correct drivers for your Vaio VPCEA33FX are here:

Hello everybody,

For some time now, almost a year, I have been without a webcam. And now, as of last night, I am beginning to have issues with my microphone. Both of these components are built into my SONY VAOI VGN-AW290, and had worked great since the purchase.

Although I know an easy fix would be to go buy a new mic and/or webcam, I would rather be able to fix the hardware currently on my computer.

My main concern is the microphone. Last night, while on Skype with friends, my microphone cut out, making the device recognition sound (as if I unplugged a USB drive from my laptop). It stayed off for some time, and then suddenly came back, playing the recognition sound again as if I had just plugged it back in. Now, as I said, the mic is built in, and so clearly this is a hardware issue, and I'm wondering what I can do about it.

I am willing to open up my laptop, and I have in the past (after the warranty had already ended), but I only know enough about the actual inside components of a computer to take out my RAM, and clean my fans and heat sink. I wouldn't know where to begin in order to find the microphone or the webcam. One thing to note is that when the microphone goes out, SOMETIMES if I lightly tap my laptop, it has a chance to come back on. But likewise, I notice that the movement is also likely a cause to it going off. So, is this a matter of something simple being "loose"? Does something just need to be reconnected? Tightened? Or is ... Read more

I noticed this when trying to call someone on skype and then today tested it with the cyberlink youcam program that came with the laptop and it doesn't work there also, any help??

Thanks

Answer:Built In Webcam Not Working

Which version of the Compaq CQ58 Laptop do you have?.

Check if your webcam works properly with another application. (you said you have done this and it did not work).
Update your webcam drivers from its manufacturer’s website.

Let me know which version you have and i might be able to offer some more advice.

Hey everyone, I need some help, I would greatly appreciate it.

Yesterday my dad gave me his old laptop to use, it is a PC... Notebook D47K, and it has a built in webcam. The drivers were already installed and the program it uses (AMCAP) recognizes the camera, but it is just a blank screen. Here is a screenshot: http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x33/darktunr/screenshot-2.jpg

I am thinking the camera just might be broken, but I don't think there is anything wrong with it so I don't know how that could be.

Hi,

I have a SONY VGN-P788K, recently the built in webcam stopped working with Skype. I tried to reinstall the driver, however there is always the same problem with it (it's only for Vista and I'm running Widows 7, so install is not successful). This is not the end ... external HD is not recognized either, same story with laser mouse (I can see the mouse lights up when computer starts, but then it just goes off and doesn't respond).

Please advise, thanks!

Answer:Built in webcam not working

Try re-installing the webcam driver from the laptop maker's website.
However, If it's an external webcam, download the driver from the webcam maker's website.

If that doesn't work, the webcam itself could be faulty.

Recently I"ve purchased a new computer with a webcam already built into the system, and, well [laugh] I 've dyed my hair and I wanted to show my dad, so I got on MSN to show him. Well the messenger couldn't find my Webcam, :
http://s90.photobucket.com/albums/k253/SaphiraWolf90/?action=view&current=cam1.jpg

Frustrated , I tried another program with a friend, using Skype . And the same message was played back to me.( "You cannot change your camera settings because either your camera is not plugged in or you are using it in a video call with another program" ) So I did the following....

Hi all,
Fairly new dv6 i7 HP with a webcam that used to work great inside the house. Now, the screen is just about all black except
for the dim outline of a light using the HP TrueVision HD cam. Machine came with Cyberlink YouCam 3.5 and I updated it to 5.0 and still same thing. I really don't want to have to use the USB webcam which works fine inside the house.
I went to device manager and found the HP TrueVision HD driver and updated it and it says that I have the latest driver.
Maybe I should delete this and re-install? I cannot find what I need, or rather I do not know what I need. HP is of little help since I went to an SSD which runs well but according to them it messes up the entire system and I am a bad customer. The problem existed before the SSD and I really do not wish to deal with HP tech any longer.
BTW the cam shows up outside so something is screwy and I cant put my finger on it. I have adjusted all the settings up down and everywhere in between then back to default which always worked well.
I hope the cam itself didn't go bad and I am leaning toward thinking that.
Thanks for any ideas.

Answer:Built in webcam not working well

Yes, please try reinstalling the driver for it.

Uninstall the driver, restart your computer and Windows should automatically the detect the webcam and prompt you to install a driver. Pull out the Driver CD or point to the location of the driver and let Windows install everything for you.

Restart your computer again and give the webcam a whirl. You may also want to use different programs to test out the webcam.

I have an advent roma 3000 laptop with built in webcam. I've only had in about 2 months, refirbed from PC World.

Anyway, the web cam has worked fine this whole time on things like MSN and Skype, I didnt have to install it; it took care of everything during the set up process.

Today it stopped working It allows to start a video call on MSN but it is just black. When I run the Youcam software (that came with it), it says video detected but again just black. I thought it could be because the 30 day trial of this ran out? (I dont use the software itself because I only use cam on MSN). I uninstalled that and tried both yawcam and VLC media as people advised these would help.. no job. I reinstalled the YouCam software it worked for a few minutes but then nothing.

When i video call on MSN, the light on the webcam comes on as if it is sending and people on the other end can hear my sound, but no picture!

I will literally marry the person that can help

I purchased a Toshiba Satellite P855-S5200 laptop (just over a month ago) that runs Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I have used the webcam frequently for Skype and recording videos. Today when I tried making a video call, I got an error message from Skype that no camera was detected. I checked in Device Manager and the camera was not listed there. I've tried doing a system restore back to when I know the camera was working. That did not work. What could have caused this problem? What can I do to resolve it?

Answer:Built-in webcam has stopped working

Sounds like your web cam went bad. If you have already tried a system restore point. I doubt downloading drivers would solve the problem. Your best bet would be to have it service. You are still under warranty.

I looked through the trend and another similar one before asking. I don't want to be an inconvenience but the things I tried through this trend and the other one did little to help. Perhaps I'm not doing it right?

My built-in camera for my laptop suddenly stopped working some time back. I found out when I was using this one website to take pictures like I always do and it told me camera not detected. It told me on Skype as well. I ran problem devices and it only detected printer problems; it does not detect problems with my cam.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit.
6.1.7601 Service Pack 1, Build 7601
System Model AO756

If I go to: Device Manager and under Images the options to pick are - Xerox Phaser 3635MFP WIA, and Xerox WorkCentre/Pro WIA scanner. I don't think those are camera options.

I am at my wits end and have been trying to fix it for two months. Thank you beforehand for taking your time to read.

Answer:Built in Webcam - Not Detected or Not Working

If there is a warning or error in Device Manager that may be the web cam and it may just need a driver.

Else there is a small chance it somehow got disabled in the BIOS (Setup), so check in there.

Most likely the web cam died.

Right, well I got this Toshiba laptop about 4 years ago. 6 months ago it started playing up.
When I preview the webcam, and take a picture, the picture doesn't actually take. I go to my gallery and a picture that I took AGES ago comes up instead. I don't know why! I've deleted the picture. It's not even on here anymore.
I deleted my webcam software and restored it from the recycling bin but it didn't change anything.

It's really frustrating, how can I get my webcam to take the picture that's actually in front of the camera, not one that's no longer existing!?

It's an old Toshiba satellite I believe.
Thanks.

Answer:toshiba built in webcam not working

If the webcam is not listed under "Imaging Devices" and there are no error-symbols in Device Manager (eg question-mark), it almost always means that the device itself is faulty, such that it's no longer being detected. As far as Windows is concerned it doesn't exist. If it's still covered by warranty, Toshiba should fix it free of charge, otherwise it would be considerably cheaper to buy a clip-on webcam than to pay to get the internal one fixed.

Hi there

My laptop is a Compaq Presario CQ60-214EM.
I have had it for 2 years and the webcam has always worked. However when I went into Cyberlink YouCam the other day, a message came up saying "no video device detected" and something along the lines of "If you have an integrated camera, make sure it is turned on."

I read up lots of forums and learned about Device Drivers a bit and first went to the Device Manager on my control panel. Nothing about "imaging devices" comes up at all, and nothing has exclamation marks next to it.

I then went to the relevant page on the compaq website, and downloaded the device driver for Cyberlink Youcam, thinking it might be that.. I'm not very good at this and there were no other drivers for a webcam or a camera or anything, this was the closest thing. The system requirements for this driver were "A webcam must be presented during installation. Otherwise the Cyberlink YouCam Software does not install." and I figured I obviously have a webcam, but after installing this driver, it told me that I don't have a webcam, and automatically uninstalled my YouCam.

I have Skype and really want my webcam back working.
Is it possible it has just "failed" because I have looked on hundreds of forums and nothing matches my exact issue!

Answer:Built-in webcam no longer working

Even without it's driver, the webcam device or "unknown imaging device" would still be shown in Device Manager (allbeit with an error symbol). The fact that it's not listed there, combined with the YouCam error message, does point to the webcam being faulty.

You can buy an external, clip-on webcam to get around this. Get a reputable brand, Microsoft, Logitech or Creative.

Answer:Solved: In-built Webcam Is Not Working

If it's not listed in Device Manager & neither are there any error symbols in Device Manager, it typically means the webcam itself is faulty or broken, which is why Windows is not detecting it. In that case, if the laptop is no longer covered by the manufacturer's warranty, you can buy an external webcam.

Webcam always worked fine (mostly using Skype). Now Skype says it can't find a webcam. When I try to run the HP Mediasmart software it can't see the webcam either.
I've tried downloading new software from hp.com (Cyberlink youcam) but when I try to install this it just hangs and never completes - probably bc I've seen something on the cyberlink site that says it will not install successfully if there is no webcam.

You have actually posted in the Windows 8 forum
Do not worry about it now
I have asked for the topic to be moved

Go to the link download and install the driver

You do not say which model of Satellite L650 but the webcam driver is probably the same for them all. However select you specific model please by clicking back to download page. Also ensuring if you have slected the correct 32 bit or 64 bit

Hello, Neither my windows, nor any apps (like Skype, e.g.) can detect my built-in webcam. Pre-history: I upgraded from win 7 to win 10, installed skype but found skype can't see my webcam. Then I looked in the device manager - there was no imaging devices at all. I then downloaded and installed the webcam driver (HP Webcam Software (International), SP52437) from HP website and hooray - the webcam started to work (skype could see it) and I could take images. The next day after win 10 update the webcam stopped working again. Itried to re-nstall the same driver (SP52437) but during installation it said "Setup has determined that your configuration does not support any of the included products" I found on the web that lots of people who upgraded to win 10 having issues with their built-in webcam not working. So I rolled back to win 7 but the camera isn't working again! In my control panel I do see Imaging devices and a driver 'USB2.0 UVC 1M HD WebCam' with a yellow exclamation mark, but when I try to update the driver the system fails to find a newer version and the exclamation mark remains. I also tried installing another generic driver for HP website - 'HP universal camera driver" (SP47460), but to no avail. I spent a week searching web for solution but couldn't find one that would work. Please help me to make my webcam work! Thank you very much!!!

Hi Velant You may have hit the the same problem I had when I upgraded my HP Pavillion x2 10 from Win 8.1 to Win 10 and after many months of trying to get my camera to work I eventually did. I have posted some of my story in the post under the link I have give below. I hope it works for you. I am sorry but I cannot find how to provide a link to my post but I have copied it below. Also note my post is dated 18/7/2016 and currently is about 5 below yours. The clue is in "Fast Startup" and that needs to be switched off. Best wishes.  http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Webcam-did-not-work/td-p/569393...

Built-in webcam not working...
So I was trying to use my Webcam on Skype and it said it wasn't working. So I checked the ArcSoft Webcam Campanion 4 to see if my camera was connected. It said "A webcam was not found or is not working properly. Please click Connect button and try again." So I click on the Connect button and it tells me "Camera not found. The camera is either being used by another application or is not connected. Make sure the cam is connected and working properly." I have no idea what to do!

My built in webcam just stopped working all of a sudden. I can't get it to work with Cyberlink YouCam or any other website that uses the webcam. I have a Sony Vaio model number VGN-CR120E. When I go to Device Manager and look under imaging devices, there's Sony Visual Communication Camera VGP-VCC6. There is no little exclamation mark next to it. It is enabled, and I already right clicked on it and clicked the update driver software. It told me that it does not need to be updated. I am stumped. The green light doesn't turn on, either.

What should I do?

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read my post.
Earlier this year I purchased a Gateway NE17B series laptop. I am having issues with the webcam. Running Windows 8.1, when I open the Camera app, it displays the error message: Something's wrong with your camera or Please connect your camera. After doing some research, I read to disable the driver, restart, then enable. I did that and it actually starting working!
Not wanting to use the camera app with Windows 8.1, I downloaded another free program. Now, the webcam is back to not working again. I uninstalled the software I downloaded and repeated the disable/restart/enable steps and it's still not working.
It seems anytime I try to use the webcam inside ANY program, such as Skype, the webcam will come on for a second, I'll see myself, then it goes away. This has happened in a few different programs when I tried using the webcam.

In the device manager, under Imaging, it says HD Webcam. So, I'm not real sure what manufacturer of the software is.

Anyone have any ideas on what I can do to get this webcam working again?
Thanks in advance for any help.
-Jonathan

I have a laptop from HP, Pavilion dv6000, and the webcam, which is built-in webcam and it always worked fine under windows xp. Now it does not work and I do not even see it listed anymore under Device Manager.
How do I fix that or do I need to go back to windows xp???

Answer:HP Pavilion dv6000 built-in webcam not working after win 7 installatio

If it's not listed in Device Manager then it looks like it's not compatible with Windows 7.

Have you checked HP's support site to see if there are any Windows 7 drivers for the webcam?

If all else fails you can always buy a webcam that is compatible with Windows 7.

Hello Toshiba People,

I have been using Satellite A665-14F PSAW3E over 2 years and I didn't really have any problem with my web camera till today. I suddenly realized (when I entered a website requiring webcam) that my webcam is not working. (It has been working perfectly). My laptop stopped seeing the built-in webcam.

First I checked the "device manager" to find and check the driver of it but I couldn't find the webcam. Actually I don't know under which category in the device manager I am supposed to see it. After that, I uninstalled the Toshiba Webcam Application from the "add/remove program" thing of Windows. I found the driver+application package of the webcam of my laptop from the European website of Toshiba and installed it. It asked me to reboot both after the uninstallation and installation. I did both times. It is still not fixed. Plus, now the blue light right next to the webcam (that is supposed to be turned on when the webcam is active) is constantly turned on, which is really annoying...

The only other detail that I can give you guys is that I realized that I have one "Unknown device" with a yellow triangle error icon on it under the category of "Universal Serial Bus controllers". Could it be related with my problem, like if the webcam is also USB related hardware? Cause I believe this unknown driver showed up in the same day with my webcam problem.

Thanks in advance to anyone for his/her time. (I use win7-64... Read more

>The only other detail that I can give you guys is that I realized that I have one "Unknown device" with a yellow triangle error icon on it under the category of "Universal Serial Bus controllers".

I assume this is the internal webcam.
The webcam module is connected to the USB controller on the motherboard and the yellow exclamation mark means that webcam software was not installed properly.

In your case I recommend firstly:
1) Uninstall the webcam software again
2) Delete the unknown device from Universal Serial Bus controllers in device manager (mark it and press del )
3) Install CCLeaner tool can clean the registry and system
4) Reboot the notebook and install the webcam software once again.

Good luck

Hi Canadian. If it's a brand new laptop, I would either call Sony or just bring it back if you purchased it locally, since it's under warranty. It could be a simple driver issue or it could be that the camera is disconnected either behind the screen or at the motherboard.

Windows xp sp2, logitec webcam c250.

Installed according to directions on logitec (ran CD, connected hardware when prompted). Worked fine. Can see self in the logitec video screen, take pics, etc.
Chose not to use the headseat that came with the webcam as it had a mic built in to the camera and I only had one place to connect the head set would have pre-empted my speakers.

Downloaded and installed skype and ran through their series of video and voice tests. All was fine. Placed several calls...good. Also installed LogMeIn free version so I could support this set up after I left home for a business trip as my Mom is not all that savvy.

Two days after I got it all working, the Mic no longer works. When I run the test in Skype with the echo service, I can hear the recording, but it shows at the top the mic volume is too low and sure enough, it does not play back the messages I leave for the test.

I have found a post on here (several in fact) about checking certain skype settings and will do that when I get home tonight. Meanwhile I had my Mom move the camera from the USB port to another one thinking it was maybe a port gone bad. No such luck.

I also wondered if it could be caused by the install of logmein? It doesn't work whether I'm remoted in or not so it's not the amount of traffic causing the issue, it would almost be like some kind of interupt conflict but a) I thought that was pretty much a thing of the past and b) I wouldn't e... Hello,

I have a Toshiba Satellite L300 with a built in 2.0 USB camera and a windows 7 operating system, the camera suddenly stopped working since about 2-3 weeks ago with unknown reason!

I already tried system restore, un-installing and re-installing the camera driver, preformed a full scan by kaspersky internet antivirus 2012 (up to date), and I also ran a complete system and drivers troubleshooting ... and the problem still exists ...

When I use the windows live movie maker it gives me an error saying: can?t record audio or video from the selected device. Make sure that the device you're trying to use is installed properly and not currently in use by another program.

The microphone works well on skype but the camera doesn't open!
Please tell me how to fix it, what am I missing?

Answer:Satellite L300 - Built In webcam suddenly stopped working

> I already tried system restore

Did you recover the unit using Recovery disk from Toshiba?
In such case the cam should work?

Otherwise I would say it?s hardware related issue.

Some users here in the forum reported an webcam issue and the reason for that was an lose connection between the cam module and motherboard.
The webcam is connected to an USB controller on the motherboard.
If the connection does not exist, the webcam would not appear in device manager? does it appear in your case? Check this?

I have purchased a second hand ACER ASPIRE 5334 from a friend. He wiped the drive and re-installed Windows 7 and so up and running.

The only problem I have is that the computer seems not to recognise it has its own Webcam and so it doesn't work.

I thought it might be a driver missing so I tried to download the driver from both the driver disk that come with it and the Acer website, they both told me the webcam couldn't be found. It is there as I can see it. I looked in the devices manager and the computer does not seem to recognise it has a camera.

The computer did some windows updating, in fact 93 updates and then I looked again in devices and there was a webcam but still would not work. The next day I thought I would download the webcam driver from the disk and it still said there was no webcam, I looked again indevices and it was gone

Any ideas please

Are Lenovo built-in webcams working with the Win 10 1607 update? My T440s webcam no longer works after the 1607 update to Windows 10. There is plenty in the news about that Windows update breaking USB-attached webcams, but I'm unsure if that is the cause of my problem. It shows up as "Intgrated Camera" in the Device Manager, but the Camera app and Skype both just show a grey screen with a diagonal line though a camera icon in place of the actual camera image. The green light comes on when I try to use the camera - but no image makes it to the software. Thanks.

Answer:Built in webcam drivers in Windows 2000

Hi wumply,

Win 2000 does have built in webcam drivers, but not for all kinds of webcam in the world. So the best solution is to find drivers in the web, you just know the name, the number or manufacture of webcam, that's all. Just typing the name of webcam + driver, and you will have it.

Answer:Laptop built-in webcam showing as "USB 2.0 camera" and not working anymore

1. What's the make and exact model of your computer?
2. What version of Windows is running on the computer?
3. Have you gone to the computer provider's support site and looked for a hardware specific web cam driver?
4. The current name "USB 2.0 cam" sounds like it might be using the Windows generic driver. Open Device Manager, right click the cam->Properties then Driver tab. Who is the Driver Provider? (if it says Microsoft, that's the generic cam driver)

My laptop came preinstalled with Windows Vista Home Edition - I have since upgraded. The webcam was functional with both OS. Also, my BIOS is not updated with the most recent available software (F.15 is available). I had F.15 and downgraded to F.14 to see if that might solve my issue, but it did not.
I have tried a variety of different things (clean boot, various installs of the driver, uninstalled all of the devices listed in Universal Serial Bus controllers and restarted), but again, to no avail.

Since your webcam appears to be USB it can be two possiblities

You need to re-install the driver for it, or more likely follow these generic USB fix-it instructions

Okay, so for the past several hours I've gone through the throes of attempting to get my Asus laptop's built-in webcam to work. I took a look at Device Manager and had found two items titled "Base System Device" (or something to that effect, I don't quite remember), and I thought that one of them would be the webcam. Well, after searching for the mystery items' Hardware ID on Google, I had discovered that these devices were in fact not the webcam.

Then I had used the "Add a Device" option under Devices and Printers in the Control Panel to try and find the webcam. After letting it churn for ten minutes, it appeared that Windows wasn't even searching anymore, and I was staring at a blank window for nothing.

The only clue I have about the situation is after running DriverEasy, it listed "USB 2.0 1.3M UVC WebCam" as a needed update, but it also said "(unplugged)" beside the selection, and was highlighted in red. After attempting to download and install the driver, the program had given me some Packard-Bell webcam driver that is most definitely not correct. (Packard-Bell still exists?)

This had all started, however, when I made a clean install of Windows 7. I had just spent the last two days scouring the web, digging up my lost drivers and programs that had come with the laptop. Everything's been successful, save for this one element.

My webcam is lost somewhere in my laptop, I just can't get to it. If ... Read more

Answer:Windows 7 cannot detect the built-in webcam on my Asus laptop

Was this laptop purchased with Windows 7 as the OS that was installed on it ? Or did it come with Windows Vista and you just wiped it out and put Windows 7 on yourself??

Hi Guys,
Win7 (32bit) cannot find my webcam after an update. Devce manager shows it as an unidentified device. msinfo32 shows following problems:
NAVEX15 ROOT\LEGACY_NAVEX15\0000 This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed.
Unknown Device USB\VID_0000&PID_0000\5&1C78ACB5&0&5 43

This issue started with skype not being able to detect the webcam (says being used by another program)-previously uninstalling skyp and reinstalling an older version worked. not this time
Also tried reinstalling drivers from ASUS (maybe i am not using the correct one??)

my computer model is ASUS F50SV
Any help is appreciated. Need my webcam to keep in touch with my family.

Ok so my girlfriend was trying to get her webcam on her hp dv6500 labtop to work with yahoo. She accessed instructions on yahoo to change certain settings within the webcam driver, however she doesn't know what all she did or how to get there. The webcam doesn't work at all now and I can't seem to figure out what she did. I have tried to restore the computer but she has her computer set to remove restore points after a certain amount of time and this just so happens to be to far so i can't go about it that way. I have also tried reinstalling the driver for the webcam and that didn't do anything.
I'm upgrading her computer to Windows 7 on thursday hoping this might replace that driver but I'm not sure...
I'd greatly appreciate any feedback on this matter.
Thanks

FYI Yahoo told her to put "regedit" in the (start - run) box

Answer:Built in webcam driver problem (windows vista)

Go into the Device Manager and try to roll back the drivers.

Start>Right click on Computer>Manage. When that window comes up on the left side select Device Manager.

Click on the webcam and double click on it to get the window to come up about drivers. Select Roll back. If that doesnt work try removing the driver completely and then reinstalling it from the HP website.

I have a Dell Vostro 1500, running 32-bit Windows 7. It came with Vista, but I upgraded to Windows 7 a couple months ago, which I think is causing the issues I'm experiencing. According to whoever I'm speaking with, the sound for the microphone built in to my webcam fades in and out and gets really loud randomly. In an attempt to solve this, I bought an external microphone which also does not work.

The sound driver is the SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC, version 6.10.0.5614. When I tried to update it through Windows 7's update driver software it says I have the best version for my system, but I still suspect that this could be what is causing the problem. I can't seem to find a better driver though.

Any ideas?

Thank you

I cannot get the built-in webcam to work on my brand new G40-108 with Windows Live Messenger. I receive the following message when attempting to configure 'audio and video setup' on messenger: "Windows cannot connect to this webcam. Close any program that may be using this webcam and restart the wizard".

Have logged it with Toshiba Technical Support, who were also unable to resolve the problem. We tried disabling both webcam apps at startup. If both run at startup, the chicony software does not function.

Anyone else having this problem? I will provide an update to this post if I get a resolution from them.

Thanks!

Answer:Qosmo G40 -in built Chicony webcam incompatible with windows live messenger

Yes? I?ve got a solution.
Remove the old software and the driver from the system.
Go to the Toshiba European page and download the newest chicony software and driver.
Then install this on the notebook and enjoy.

Note; please reboot the notebook every time after driver reinstallation.

---------My laptop model is Inspiron 17R 5720 and Im having the exact same problem after the Microsoft Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607: August 31, 2016 - KB3176938, done Sep 4th. I was also already running Win10 and it didnt mess with Webcam Central - till yesterday when I gave the reboot necessary to install the update files.Pan/Zoom/Position Arrows show as available to be used but if you try to use then, nothing happens and back to full zoom. Only thing it allows me to do is to change to Face Tracking.I called Dell Suport Center and for about 2 hours I ran diagnostics and tried possible solutions with the tech assistant but he wasnt very helpfull at all. All diagnostics came back with positive/OK/passed results and they offered me a paid support to fix the problem. Not exactly a good solution, is it?It was clear though MS updates messed up with the webcam driver - I checked myself at Devices/Imaging there was an update for the driver done exactly when MS updates were done. Unfortunatelly, the rollback option wasnt available. For that matter, I decided to uninstall the whole Windows KB3176938 and CAPICOM (what ever that is) updates done using Control Panel/Updates but no-go. Next step was to google for that problem which leaded me to other Dell Forum threads pointing to reinstall Webcam Central which also didnt work at all then I bumped into your threa... Read more

I've owned this laptop for quite a while and had been using Webcam Central to control the Integrated Webcam on my Alienware M17x R4.   I never had any issues using Windows 7, 8, 8.1, or even Windows 10 until my system updated on 8/20/2016 with a scheduled Windows 10 update.
After the windows 10 update my system restarted and the next time I went to use my webcam I noticed that I couldn't control the pan / zoom / or tilt or alter any of the settings in webcam central.  If I attempt to change anything it automatically changes back instantly.  For example of I move the slider to zoom, or attempt to change the pan, it auto goes back to where it was and will not allow me to change the settings.
I also notice that my mouse pointer flickers over the webcam central GUI, meaning, there seems to be some issue with the GUI after the windows 10 update, I assume is also whats causing the settings not to be changed.
I have tried uninstalling both the drivers and software and reinstalling to no avail, same problem is present after reinstallation of both drivers and the webcam central software.
Wondering if anyone else has run into this and whether there was some type of resolution.
I was able to get the pan / zoom / tilt working with 3rd party webcam software, however I would prefer to go back to using webcam central.
