AMD Radeon 8850m device is missing

Question: AMD Radeon 8850m device is missing

Hi All,
This is my first post here
So the issue I am facing is that I have a Dell Laptop with dual graphics card (Intel(R) 4400 integrated and AMD Radeon 8850m dedicated). The System would not detect any AMD driver installed on it. The device manager was showing only the Intel Graphics Card being installed .
Then I went on to uninstall the Catalyst Command Center from Control Panel, wherein I completely uninstalled the AMD Graphics driver and everything related to it.
Now, AMD is not at all being recognized by my system. Device manager doesnt show it even in hidden devices, DriverEasy scan doesnt read it, Even Dell System detect is failing to detect the AMD graphics Card.

How do I proceed ahead with this issue.

Have I somehow unmounted the hardware internally?
Is there anyway besides a factory reset to get this working again ( I have concerns with a factory reset also not helping me )
What system scan tools can I use to get my laptop to recognize the Device again?
Please Help
Thanks In Advance

Preferred Solution: AMD Radeon 8850m device is missing

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Question: radeon 8850m fail

Hi! I have a problem with the graphic card in my Dell 3537. The vga (radeon 8850m) tried to refresh the new crimson driver, but I stopped it by 2% (because my internet is REALY slow (70kb/s)). Since the system freezes, when I try to install any vga driver. ANY driver, also official dell driver or official windows driver (left click in device manager am graphic card) or the new crimson driver or older ati driver. I tried BIOS reset and new windows install - did not help. The problem on the old win10 and on the new win10 exactly samething. I need a tiny help :)atiwinflash shows that:

I recently got a Dell 15R 5537 with Radeon 8850m and did a clean install in Windows 10 Pro, but I can't manage to get the amd 8850m to work.
When i go to Device Manager, the driver is shown has generic video adapter.

When I ran Everest, though, The graphic card appears to be a Radeon Firepro W9000.

So i can't install the driver, I tried several versions of the driver, the ones from dell and crimson ones from AMD, but nothing work.
And yes, i did use DDU between driver installs.
At last, I tried to install some firepro w9000 driver, even aware that its not my video card, and the Device Manager displayed the card has firepro after that, but the videocard didnt work, got error(forgot the code, but the name changed in device manager).

Answer:Radeon 8850m wont show up in Dell 15R 5537 with W10

Was the AMD GPU working correctly with the factory install of Windows?

Greetings to all,I've got Lenovo G500 laptop (i5, 6GB RAM, Intel HD4000 + ATI Radeon 8750HD, Win 8.1) and I am experiencing a serious problem. Yesterday my laptop suddenly freezed during watching a TV show and I was forced to restart it. After restart I received a message, that AMD Catalyst and hydravision doesn't work properly and I should reinstall drivers. So I did but after that, nothing worked properly and my radeon card was missing in device manager, just intel HD was present. I've read throughout this whole forum and I couldn't find a solution; I've tried everything, reinstallation of all drivers, both AMD and Intel, I've tried installation of older drivers, then newer, I've tried to check BIOS, where it all seemed all right (switchable graphics were enabled) and as last option I've reinstalled whole system - back to the factory settings. But my AMD Radeon card is still not present in the system, it seems like it was not ever there. I've tried to find it via that app which finds any hardware, but without any positive result. When I try to run catalyst center, it says "can't run catalyst, no actual settings which could be configured by catalyst control center". I've tried to play various games (far cry 3, mass effect 2, metro redux) with positive outcome, it runs the same way as it did before, but!! - I've got this feeling it always ran on intel hd card...As many others, since the beginning of my laptop purchase I had that problem where everything runs on integrated car... I recently realized I've been running on integrated graphics so I checked device manager and cannot find my discrete ati radeon 3650 device anywhere. In my display settings, there's only 2 sets of intel integrated graphics 4500, when there use to be one that says mobility radeon hd 3650. I installed the new video adapter driver for the radeon ati card from lenovo support and still nothing (yes the correct version etc), the ati mobility did not show up in device manager at all. I tried setting ati to high powered mode, still nothing, resulting in my computer to crash most of the time, it seems to set on low powered. The only device driver avaliable appears to be my crappy intel integrated graphics card. I tried in bios to set display to set discrete graphics, gets blank screen on lcd whenever i restart computer, I had to plug an external monitor into my laptop to return settings back to switchable graphics on bios. Is there anyway to fix this problem or is this happening b/c my mobility radeon card suffered a hardware failure? Thanks.

Answer:T500 (vista x64): Discrete graphics (ati radeon 3650) missing from device driver

that sounds like your ATI radeon having a problem. Do you have warranty left? Does applying force on the ATI GPU chipset allow it work momentarily? If you don't have warranty then you might need to stick with your integrated gpu.

Hi everybody.

I just bought myself a Powercolor Radeon HD 4890 yesterday. After installing the card and the required drivers everything works like a charm. However, every time I start up my PC I get a message saying that a new device has been found on my system. On checking Device Manager I found an "Unknown device" entry under "Other devices".

I'm attaching a screenshot of Device Manager.

Are there any drivers I'm missing? It only happened after removing my old card (after uninstalling all its drivers) and installing the Radeon.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer:Unknown Device In Device Manager After Installing Radeon HD 4890

I have a Powercolor Radeon HD 4890 (I also have a Gigabyte 4890 and XFX 4890 in two other PCs). I think you need to install the latest ATI Catalyst Suite. You may have installed the driver only package. Anyway, I think it has to do with the HDMI capabilities of the card. High def sound is built into the card (the HD part of the card name) and the HD sound driver is part of the Catalyst Suite. When you use an HDMI cable to an appropriate display, HD sound is also transmitted through the same cable from the Radeon graphics card.

Of course, be sure to install .NET Framework 2.0 as it is required before you can install the full Catalyst Suite. The HD sound driver won't install without it. At least I had trouble before I installed .NET 3.5. I went to Windows Update and installed .NET Framework 3.5. 2.0 is included in that update and 2.0 wasn't available separately.

After upgrading and installing the necessary drivers  to Windows 10 x64 two problems arrived.  One was the Touchpad, 2 finger press - right click doesn't work. The other and more important the dedicated video GPU AMD 8850M isn't powering down in idle. It builds up head in the center of the laptop where it's located and consumes more battery. In AIDA64 the power drain in windows 8.1 x64 was a 5W in idle, witch is great but in Windows 10 is around 12- 10 W, more than double. From a theoretical 6h battery life i now get around 3h. I checked everything in AMD Catalyst, put all software on powersave, making sure the dedicated gpu was not active in idle but with no luck. A workaround was to install the latest amd catalyst driver from amd official site, the gpu was powering down in idle but then the sleep / wake problems and blue screens arrived.
So in the end i'm stuck with a faulty gpu driver that builds up heat in the laptop and reduces the battery life to a half. I would go back to Windows 8.1 but I'm not sure if I will lose the Windows 10 free upgrade, because they ended the deal this month.
If there is a solution to this problem, please let me now. Thank you.

I have a computer where the DHCP service will not start due to a missing dependent service.  I did some digging and found that the NetBT.sys file was missing, as well as the related Registry keys and the NetBIOS over TCP/IP service in Device Manager.
I tried copying the NetBT.sys file over from a known good XP SP3 machine, but before I went any further, I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.  Can someone offer some suggestions to fix this without having to reload XP?

Answer:NetBT.sys missing, registry entries missing, and NetBIOS over TCP/IP service missing from Device Manager

For what it is worth, I pulled the netbt.sys file from a known good machine and putting it into the %Windows%\system32\drivers folder, then imported the registry keys for NetBT from the same machine.  Rebooted the computer and the "NetBIOS over TCP
IP" driver showed up in Device manager under "Non Plug-and-Play Devices".  It showed that it was started, and verified that the DHCP client server was started as well.  Everything was in good working order at that point.  Here are the registry

I have a Yoga 2 11 laptop and just recently it started giving me the default boot device missing  error. I would just restart my laptop once or twice and it would boot fine.  Soon after,  that solution  didn't work.  So I changed the boot settings to legacy first and that worked for a few days.  Now nothing works.  I've tried resetting the bios settings and redoing legacy support. I've tried using Lenovo button and do a system restore/recovery but it asks for me to restart and choose an operating system first. Ive tried creating a  bootable usb and do a startup repair, but I would get a boot file missing  error. I tried just reinstalling windows completely and every time I try,  it isn't able to detect my harddrive to install windows on.  However if I check Bios, the bios detects the harddrive.  Any solutions?  I do not want to send it in,  I rather repair myself.  Do I need a new harddrive?

I bought NB Satellite C850D-10H Part Number: PSC9UE-005009CZ without OS.

Unfortunately, the package was without drivers CD and on your site, there are minimum for this model, at least when I choose the option WIN 7 x32 (I tried to help the driver for x64 OS, partly it helped), but still I'm missing driver "USB"? see screenshot.

Could you give me a link to the drivers (ideally the entire package of drivers for this computer system and WIN7 x32?)

Thank you.

Webcam was working a week ago. Suddenly Skype cannot detect my web cam . I went to Device Manager , selected the web cam under Imaging devices , then uninstalled the driver . Then went back to Device Manager and scanned for hardware changes. Now even the Imaging Device category is missing. Tried Hardware troubleshoot , resetting Camera etc . no luck.

Computer is an old Sony Vaio BGC-JS190D running latest update Windows 10.

Why is the category Imaging Devices not showing up in Device manager?

Does this mean my web cam is dead? Will installing a ext webcam fix the problem ?

I am using a Lenovo Thinkpad Helix (system model 36984SU) on Windows 8.1 Pro, 64-bit. I recently factory reset the computer to downgrade from Windows 10 (I was past the 1-month "downgrade-for-free" option with no Windows 8 recovery files) to Windows 8, then I upgraded to Windows 8.1. I had issues with the digitizer pen in the past that were never resolved, and I guess factory resetting the device still didn't solve them. I've looked at all the "install this pen driver" threads out there, and then I realized that my Device Manager doesn't even recognize a pen (see picture below, "HID-compliant pen" is nowhere to be found. I would love to use the digitizer someday..... so what do I do?

Hi all,

The "Display adapter" option is missing from my Device Manager. I did
re-install the OEM driver but it didn't help. I am mystified as to how to get it
to show up. I would like to install a new video card and I suspect I must
first resolve this software problem (already tried the card with no luck).

I had made some tweaks to WinXP some months ago in an effort to optimize it.
I don't remember what I did but I suspect that might have something to do
with it. I have looked through Microsoft and HP/Compaq support sites with
no luck. Any info I found seems to talk about using the Display Adapter to
make changes, not how to revive it.

My stock video drivers are loaded and working. Again, I just don't know how
to get Display Adapter to re-appear (and working) in Device Manager.

I ran a diagnostic app called AIDA32. Here are screen grabs of my:

* Windows Devices
* Physical Devices
* Device Resources
* Windows Video

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can fix this issue? Any and all
suggestions are appreciated.

My System Specs:
* WinXP Home Ed, SP2 installed
* System: Compaq Presario SR1030NX
* Processor: AMD Athlon XP 3000+
* Processor Speed: 2166 MHz
* BIOS: KM400 / 3.03
* RAM: 512 MB
* Video Controller: VIA/S3G UniChrome Graphics

Recently I attempted to connect to an existing paired connection to my phone via bluetooth. I have never had this problem before, yet suddenly Bluetooth is missing. There is no longer an icon in the taskbar, the setting in "PC and Devices" is missing, and there appears to not be a driver installed, rather, an ""Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" appears in my devices instead. I have taken many steps to attempt and fix this, such as:
manually starting Bluetooth services from services.mscuninstalling the "Unknown Device" driver, then attempting to let Windows reinstalldownloaded the driver software from Lenovo for the Bluetooth adapter, installed it manually restartedtake a system restore created yesterday and revert back to it

Everything else in the PC functions perfectly. Any help is appreciated

Answer:Bluetooth Device Missing, Unknown USB Device

I had a similar problem recently where my bluetooth seemed to have just disappeared.
I ran the Find and Fix problems with devices (Just typed it into the start screen). It found one thing which by memory said something about a usb device being disabled. Clicked for it to fix the problem and enable it. Sure enough my bluetooth was right back.
Not sure if it will work for you, but its worth a try.
Good Luck

I recently did some upgrading to switch from windows XP 32-bit to windows 7 32-bit. Included in my upgrades was the installation of HIS Ati Radeon HD 4670 graphics card. I chose this card because my motherboard still has an AGP slot, and the reviews said that it works well with windows 7. However, upon installation of windows, and downloading the graphic card drivers for windows 7, the system won't detect it and I'm at a loss of what to do. Any advise is appreciated!

Answer:Radeon 4670 device trouble

Do you have onboard graphics as well? If so, check in your BIOS for what the primary card is. Set it to the AGP card.

Hi All, i recently had to do a format and clean install. i have been having countless problems with graphics card (AMD R5 M255) to the point where i have probably reinstalled the drivers a million times. Today however the GPU no longer shows up in the device manager, i have tried installing the drivers but the crimson software no longer picks up the graphics card so it doesnt install the drivers. I cleaned the drivers off the pc with the AMD driver cleanup utility as well as DDU. i also had a technician out yesterday and they replaced the entire system board on the laptop, so everything is brand new. the GPU was being picked up prior to my idiotic cleaning of the drivers with DDU.

I just recently upgraded from Windows 7 64-bit to Windows 8 64-bit, and everything is running smoothly, except my AMD Radeon HD 6700M graphics card is having some trouble. It shows up in the device manager, but has an exclamation point by it. Whenever I run games, it always uses the Intel HD graphics. I have Catalyst Control Centre, but there are no options for my graphics card. I changed the graphics dual option to "Fixed" in BIOS. I've tried uninstalling, and reinstalling, and still no luck. The latest CCC I got was from the HP Rep. I chatted with. It didn't show an exclamation point before I rebooted so I assumed everything was fixed. Whenever I try downloading from the AMD website, I get incompatible software even though I am in the right category, so the sticky threads above I've had no luck with yet. Any ideas? Thanks for the help!

The 15-e092se Notebook wouldn't boot and kept blue screening, stating "thread stuck in device driver". This was on the preinstalled Windows 8.1. I clean installed with Windows 10 pro and as soon as the notebook installed the graphics device driver for the radeon chipset it blue screened again. I started in safemode and installed the latest drivers from Radeon themselves and the same result. I also got hold of old drivers and each of these gave the same result.  The only workaround I found to make the notebook work, was to disable the Radeon graphics and use the intel graphics (as it has both on this switchable graphics system). With just the Intel graphics it works absolutely fine, with no system instability. I have also tried older intel drivers with older Radeon ones with different permutations but still same result. HP assistant says the system is up to date and tried other fixes I have seen online. Updated BIOS, ensured all drivers are up to date etc.  Only conclusion I could come up with is that I have a hardware failure on this radeon graphics chipset. I am hoping there is a known fault with some sort of fix??

Dear all,
Kindly assist with the following issue:
I have got an Acer AspireOne 150 running Windows XP Professional SP3.

Since I bought it two weeks ago I have been experiencing problems with the WLAN adapter: After losing the internet connection I had to re-install the device several times.
This time I went into the device manager and disabled the adapter, then enabled it again - and it disappeared from the list. Gone!

I re-installed the driver software, however, the WLAN adapter was not recognized.

Any ideas anybody??? Thanks in advance!!!

Hey everyone,

This began with a problem that I started a thread about here (, which I think may be a symptom the larger problem.

I went to Device Manager and I have the yellow "!" by my video card. When I double click it I'm told that "Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)".

If I click troubleshoot then nothing happens. This problem just started and I'm thinking that I must have done something last night when I was doing routine maintenance. I downloaded the new Registry Mechanic (turns out I was using an old one) which found a lot of registry problems on my computer. I also got Ad-Aware SE Pro which found problems. I also installed Spyware Blaster and PC Anywhere last night (PC Anywhere was pretty much immediately uninstalled, though, cause I didn't like it).

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions? I'm using the Omega drivers 2.6.25a and I have a System Restore point set up right before I fixed the Registry Mechanic problems. I'd like to not use that if possible, though, in order to avoid any other complications that might arise from restoring the computer to a previous point.

I have this problem for a few months already.
With the Mann vs Machine update for Team Fortress 2 coming up, I want to upgrade my drivers.
Everytime I try to update my drivers via the official site I get an error message in the middle of installing, it says that a .INF file is missing.
So does anyone know how I can update my drivers properly?
Thanks for reading!

Answer:Can't install AMD Radeon 6570 updates - .INF file missing

What are you downloading exactly?

Hey Guys, I have a Lenovo g500 Laptop. There is no Radeon Videocard in this laptop at all.I tried 8 and 10 but the system says only integrated Intel videocard is available. I tried to install manually the catalyst driver but no luck. I tought the Win 10 should recognize the Radeon and install the software automatically but no luck. In the BIOS there is no switchable graphics option at all. I clearly remember I could run crysis 2 because the radeon was available when I bought this laptop. Can you help me please? Thank you

I just installed Windows 8 Enterprise Trial version on HP nx9420 laptop (2GHz dual core prosessor, 4gb memory, ATI Motility Radeon X1600 graphics card with 256mb own memory, 1680x1050 native display resolution) on second partition, side by side with existing
Windows 7.
Installation succeeded perfect, except Windows 8 couldn't install, nor did find from Windows Update display driver for ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics card. Only Microsoft generic display driver was installed and it offered maximum 1450x800 resolution,
so not laptops native 1680x1050 screen resolution.
Windows 7 can install working ATI driver right from Windows Update for that graphics card (version 8.561.0.0 dated 1.12.2008).
Laptop manufacturer HP has latest, old driver for Vista (version 8.453.0.0 dated 22.1.2008), so I installed that, selecting compatibility mode Vista with setup-program in Windows 8. That installed, but seems to have some problems, telling of missing library,
maybe with some ATI extra diplay manager software and C++ 2005 library, that it installed.
MY QUESTION: Is there some problems with Windows 8 and that ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics card? Why isn't the Windows 7 -version of ATI mobility radeon X1600 display driver available in Windows Update for Windows 8 too?

Answer:ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics card Windows 8 driver missing

So the problem with Windows 8 64-bit installation now is, that it can't install drivers for ATI Mobility Radeon x1600, neither from Win 8 64-bit installation media, nor from Windows Update -service - it just installs generic windows display driver.
If one installs older Vista-version drivers for that graphics card, there may be problems that on boot laptop flickers several minutes display and then either gives Windows 8 login screen or just keeps flickering, varying time to time.

I know that there is latest legacy driver package at ATI, but that doesn't support Mobility Radeon Xnnn-models, it only supports plain Xnnn-models. If one tries to install with that, it says that graphic card (so mobility radeon -models) isn't supported.
 So these won't work.

With Internet Explorer (this doesn't work with other browsers!) I checked Microsoft's update catalog service (where it-support of companies can download windows update -packages for centralized testing before deployment to workstations of them), so - do
this with administrator-user in Windows:

That asks to install Microsoft add-on in IE to use that service at first, so do it.
Then in search field, in upright, search "mobility radeon x1600&... Read more

I had to do a clean install on my eMachine Model T3418. Installed IE8sp3 and all updates. I have tried to connect to our network router, the light is on when I plug into the network port but no connection gets established. Currently using WiFi to connect to internet. My Device Manager is showing yellow question marks for all of the above listed components.
1. PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_02698SUBSYS_60061509&REV_A1\3&2411E6FF&0&AD

3. PCI_VEN_10E&DEV_0264&SUBSYS_60061509&REV_A2\3&2411E6FE&0&51

I know the last is an nVidia driver. I found a software program called Driver Finder that identifies my drivers and will give me the drivers to update and download but not how to do it. Can anyone please help?

Answer:MISSING 3-D Device

The most obvious things this could be are either your video card drivers and/or DirectX.

Download and install the latest nVidia drivers.

Also, what version of DirectX are you using?

Go to Start, Run and type in dxdiag and then O.K.

That will tell you the version number. The latest one is 9.0c.

Go through each tab and make sure there are no errors.

Question: Missing Device.

After reinstalling XP due to problems. I have created more problems with the fact that there is no video card or whatever installed. I have had the computer a while now and it worked perfectly before so I don't know what's wrong with it.

After opening the Device Manager, I couldn't find my video or graphics card under there and when I ran dxdiag, in the notes at the bottom it says:

"The system is using the generic video driver. Please install video driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.
DirectDraw test results: All tests were successful.
Direct3D functionality not available. You should verify that the driver is a final version from the hardware manufacturer."

At the top of the Diagnostics, under display, where it says device, there is no information, the name is blank and the rest of the fields just say N/A

Any help please, it's really bugging me!

Answer:Missing Device.

Hello JaffaCakes

"The system is using the generic video driver. Please install video driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.

That is what you need to do then the card will show up in Device Manager.
Find our which video card you have and go to the manufacturers site to search for XP drivers for the exact model.

I was attacked by a virus. I use Windows XP and have two users on the system. I cleaned the virus out using Malwarebytes and NOD 32. No viruses are present. I have two users on the XP. One user is able to access the Internet and has full functionality. The second user is unable to access the Internet. When searching for the fix using the Diagnosticsit it shows that DEVICE IS MISSING referencing DSL connection and the one user. And Propsys.dll not found. I have tried the System Restore function for the one nonfunctional user. This did not fix the problem. Any solutions?

Have you looked in device manager to see if your networking drivers are installed and working?
Why not run ccleaner and superanti-spyware now too, in that order. Bet you will find some remnants.

Hi all, I beleive this is an error with all Acer 7535G laptops, and was wondering if there is a fix. This is the error I get; "This device cannot start (Code 10)".

I uninstalled and reinstalled, which didn't work. I tried a fix which worked for 4550 models, which was to uninstall, go into Safe Mode and delete the drivers, then reboot and they'll automatically re-install, which they did, but the error was still there.

Is there an fix out there whatsoever? I understand the 3200 Series is supposed to work without the laptop being plugged in, and when it is plugged in, it should switch to the 4500 Series.

Btw, I'm running 64Bit W7 Ultimate.

So this has 2 video cards in it- one for battery power and the other for when it's plugged into an outlet?

EDIT- OK from what I just read on a site if you're running XP the switching doesn't work properly. I found this fix posted but it's for Win 7.

"I Have given up with XP, it will not work properly with the ACER 7535G I have installed Windows 7 and everything is good. It now runs a lot of recent games on high settings. One problem that you will come accross is that the HD 4750 card wont be selectable in the display options unless you do the mobility modder from driver heaven.

Then you can see it in duel view, but you can then chose to just use the second card only."

Then I installed Windows XP, but now a few things are not working properly.

I downloaded the Norton removal tool from the Symantec website.
Followed the directions and restarted my computer.
It wouldn't start and I had to reboot it couple of times before it worked.
Something strange had happened, none of my devices were showing up. I checked "Device Manager" and was shocked to find nothing in the box! Every single device had disappeared!
This is why I couldn't connect or play any sounds, or do anything.
I then tried transferring my data (all my storys, poems etc) to my CD writer. But the computer didn't recognise that either.
So I rebuilt my "old" computer and connected to the internet.
And here I am!
Very angry!
I tried ringing Symantec, but got stupid answering machine that wasn't much help. I emailed them instead and they replied that "I" must have downloaded a piece of software that wasn't compatible to Norton.
I have just sent off another email, but as it contains strong langauge that I'd rather not repeat it on here.
So now I'm stuck. I can't remove my data from my computer, Wish I had "backed up" more often, but then I didn't think "Norton" would crash my pc. Used "Norton" on Windows 98 few years ago and had no problems.
Now I have completely lost faith in Norton and will never use them again.

Answer:Missing Device Manager

The easiest way to recover the data is to physically remove the hard drive that's in the affected computer and connect it to another computer as a slave drive (make sure you reset the jumper as per the diagram on the hard drive).

You should then be able to move the data to either that computer's hard drive, an external drive, cds or dvds, etc.

Once saving your data completed, reinstall your original hard drive as master in your computer, (setting the jumper again accordingly) reformat and reinstall XP if you have the Windows XP installation cd or use a Restore cd that may have come with the computer.

If you did not get any disks with your computer when it was new, there may be a restore partition which is accessed before Windows starts.
Boot the computer and look for instructions on the bottom of the screen - again - BEFORE Windows starts.

I have a machine running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. Having an issue with Windows VPN connections. Getting the 797 - Device Missing error when I try to connect. I searched up and down this solutions database and all over the internet, and I can't seem
to solve my issue.
When I look at my device manager, under network adapters, I can see that I have a WAN Miniport (PPTP) adapter, but when I look at the properties of the VPN connection I created, it shows "Modem Removed- Unavailable device()" under Connect using.
To me, it seems like it's trying to use a modem that doesn't exist, and not my network card.
I've checked all my services associated with the connection, I am unable to get the "Remote Access Auto Connection Manager" service to start. It fails with the error code "0x80000048: 0x80000048" and that's all I get. Checked my system
and I do see the rasacd.sys file in my Windows\System32\drivers folder as rasacd.sys. I check my device manager, and I do not have anything under Network Adapters as "RAS Async adapter" even when I'm showing hidden devices.
I've tried deleting the connections and recreating them. It seems like even though I'm specifying that I want to use my internet connection, it is trying to use a modem that doesn't exist. I just tried doing what's listed in this article, and it did not
help either.

Answer:Windows 7 - VPN Missing Device

Hello Ryan,
Can other users normally use the VPN?
Please take the following steps for troubleshooting:
1. If you install any third-party VPN connection program, remove them and check if the issue still exists.
2. Create a new account and check if the issue persists in the new profile.
If you can normally use the VPN in the new profile, please refer to the following article to fix the corrupted profile.
3. Preform a clean boot to exclude the cause of software conflicts

I have a Dell Inspiron 1200 laptop running Windows XP Home....the unit kept freezing..... we decided to reload windows by running the re-installation cd provided with the computer this is the first ever issue i have had with this unit, it has been in use for several years. We ran the re-installation cd and followed the step by step instructions. We began by re partitioning and reformatting the hard drive.....the installation went smooth however when all was said and done and the system came back up and we tried to connect to the internet we are unable to ....upon research of the issue we find that everything has loaded correctly with the exception of the following devices ( all are missing drivers ) as reflected in the device manager under other devices
1. Ethernet Controller
2. Multimedia Audio Controller
3. PCI Modem
4. SM Bus Controller
5. Video Controller
6. Video Controller ( VGA Compatible )

How do We correct this or find the drivers , We cant simply connect to the internet to download the drives as we dont have a driver for the Ethernet Controller
I have also tried to load a USB wireless ethernet adapter with no success its simply adds to the file of devices with out drivers.....anyone have a solution or suggestions

Thanks so much

Answer:missing device drivers

The link below contains downloads for all of the drivers that you will need on your laptop. Obviously you cannot download them from the laptop due to the absensce of the NIC's(network interface card) drivers. Since you clearly have access to the internet from another PC, could you burn a CD or just a flash drive (a floppy disk will probably not be large enough).

If there are multiple devices listed, you can try using a program like Everest to see if you can narrow it down.

I had to make a fresh new install of win XP on this r61 ( 8918-B9G is model num. ) without Recovery CD because of a hard disk failure; i then installed Thinkvantage System Update and downloded every available driver  (although  i didnt install all the preinstalled software cause i did get only what i need), but every time i start Windows it detects New Hardware and asks for drivers for a "PCI Device".What am i missing?  It should NOT be a problem with sound card, cause i installed its drivers and sounds seesms to be properly working. Thanks in advice

I have this Hp Mini that My sister gave me about a month ago. It was running really slow and all so I wanted to try and fix it. I did something, where everytime I turn it on I get the message, ?An Operating System not found?. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to reboot".                             So I created my own windows 7 CD/DVD, thinkig that, creating my own disk will solve the situation, but whe I try to insall it it gives me another message saying...A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert now. I don't know what to do when I see this message. Is there anything I can do to fix this whole computer prblem... I don't want to have my computer just sitting around.  Please Help!!

My granddaughter downloaded a children's software program on my laptop and it evidently had a virus as my device manager screen is empty and modem is not being recognized for dial-up.  Does anyone have any ideas on what I need to do to regain my dial-up etc.

Answer:Device Manager is Missing

Kind of hard to advise without knowing the operating system, but Spybot,  and Ad Aware are free downloads. Just google for them. That is a good place to start.

To get to the point, I recently formatted my computer. Now, when I try to play music, it gives me an error message saying "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly." I've gone through the whole troubleshooter and it can't find the problem. I've got my speakers hooked up but when you go to Control Panel, then Sound, Speech, and Audio Devices and click on Sounds and Audio Devices, it says that there is no audio device installed. I've gone through everything I can think of but nothing works, please help!

Answer:Missing Sound Device

You have to install the drivers for your sound device. You should have a CD somewhere that came with your computer. The motherboard CD perhaps? Depends on your package at time of purchase. You can download the drivers if you don't have the CD, usually from the computer/motherboard manufacturers website.

I recently formatted my computer's hard drive and reinstalled Win98SE. Windows recognized all the periferals (2nd HD, Zip Drive, 2 CDROMs and floppy) but the driver that was installed for the display is 16 colors and there is neither sound nor modem. These three were working before the format. Can you tell me how I might identify these devices so that I can search for the drivers. I no longer have the recovery disks and msinfo32 and Belarc Advisor only show what's loaded for drivers, not the make and model of the 3 devices.

Answer:device drivers missing

Have you tried a windows update.

Or if you know the name of the company that made the motherboard, you can go to their website and the drivers should be there if you do a little hunting.

I have recently had to replace the HDD on my probook 6570b everything seems fine but device manager is asking for a base system device driver.  1. Base system device, Location: PCI Slot 2 (PCI bus 35, device 0, function 1) 2. HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor.  The driver for this device has been blocked from starting because it is known to have problems with Windows. Contact the hardware vendor for a new driver. Answer:Missing Device Drivers

Hi: You need these drivers for some of the devices you listed... Base system devices: The JMicron Media Card Reader Driver enables the integrated media card slot in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. PCI Simple Communications Controller: This package provides the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver for the supported notebook models and operating systems. The Intel Management Engine Interface enables communication between the host operating system and the Intel Management Engine firmware. Unknown Device: This package provides the HP 3D DriveGuard Software for supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. HP 3D DriveGuard Software protects the hard drive by parking the heads if the notebook is accidentally dropped, or is abruptly impacted by another object. After you install the above drivers and restart the PC, please post the hardware ID's for the remaining devices that need drivers. To find the hardware ID, go to the device manager and click on the device(s) needing drivers. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the device window. Now you will see a Property drop down list and it will be set to Device Description. Drop down on that list and select the 3... Hey all... this might be a tough one...

The internet company just set up a router and LAN internet in my home.
First problem- In Network Connections, the Local Area Connection says "no internet connection" in the properties.

So I was told I needed to enter my ISP username and password. The company walked me through setting up a new VPN.
Second problem - In Network Connections, the VPN has a red X, saying "Unavailable - device missing". When I right click and select properties, it says "an unexpected error occurred. Also I noticed in my Device Manager, there is no Network Controller.

What I tried -
1. I downloaded the Network Ethernet Controller driver for my Levono. Then at the end of setup, it says: The Realtek Ethernet Controller was not Found. If Deep Sleep Mode is Enabled please Plug in the Cable. I disabled Deep Sleep but the problem continued.

I researched about this problem also, and found I probably need to reset my BIOS. However, I can't figure out how to do it with this Levono computer. I tried pressing F2, F1, delete and F12 upon reset but nothing comes up about BIOS.

2. I ran sfc /scannnow in the command prompt. I attached the CBS.log file, though it's all Latin to me.

I'd really appreciate some help with this.. I'm way over my head as it is.

Answer:Cannot use new VPN (error, device missing)

When you bought your computer it should have came with a drivers disk. You need to run that. If you dint have the disk, then your computer manufacturers website should have the drivers available for download.Did you just install windows? If not, did you make any changes to the computer's hardware or software prior to the driver problem?

My computer wouldn't open today so I opened in Safe Mode and restored at most recent restore point. A message came up to consult device manufacturer for assistance to get it installed.

Microsoft 6to4 Adapter #133 Failed.

Any suggestions? Dell Vista, Windows, Word.

I've known for a while that I have a hacker. Could this be one of his tricks?

Answer:Device Driver Missing

What is the service tag on your computer?

Microsoft 6to4 adapter is not a network card. It is an adapter program to allow IPv6 to be transmitted over IPv4 cards, if the cards support it. Usually you don't need it and can uninstall it.Click to expand...

Your card may not support this but if we know what the network adapter is, an updated drive from someplace other than Dell may work. Are you using wireless of wired Ethernet? If the updated network adapter driver does not work, you can disable this in Device Manager and still be able to connect to the internet.

So, my father-in-law gave my son one of his old laptops, but the DVD driver was corrupt or something. I don't remember exactly what that error message was, because I figured I'd just uninstall the driver and reinstall it and that would be that. After all, how hard could it be to find a driver and install it, right? Apparently, it's impossible for the computerly uninclined...
Anyway, I'm looking for the driver for HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GT32N ATA Device. And, of course, since I uninstalled the driver, I get this error message; Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39).

Try these steps from Microsoft CD DVD not recognized and let us know if it fixed the problem.

Hello all,

I understand this topic has been brought up before. I assure you I have reviewed all past threads on this topic to no avail.

I have an Alienware M15x that I used to use a few years back. It was running 64 bit Windows 7. Recently, I decided to upgrade to Windows 8 on it, only to run into a plethora of problems. I'd like to put Windows 7 back on it, but unfortunately the CD/DVD drive gave out on this guy a while back.

I have made a bootable flash drive and can get to the setup screen, but when everything loads and I choose to proceed in English, I am greeted with the error message "CD/DVD device driver is missing...etc". I have made sure that the device drivers are all up to date.

I have read elsewhere that you can simply click "cancel" at the setup menu when asked for the drivers, and then remove and re-insert the bootable flash drive, and then click "Install Now". Problem is, I don't even have that button.. My only options are to "browse" and "rescan."

I had also read that I should change my HD to to AHCI. It was already set to AHCI when I got the the BIOS menu, so that didn't work either.

I have ran into a few posts by people on other forums with my EXACT problem basically, but so far have been able to find no workaround for this. I am not amazingly tech-savvy but I know how to get around hardware... But Laptop hardware layouts scare me and I am quite afraid I'll bust something if I try to... Read more

The error is almost always a bad installer. Download a new ISO for your licensed version from Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 and write it to stick with the tool provided. Then follow the same steps given there to get a perfect install.

Hi, I have the same problem. My wireless device disappeared all of sudden. Under the device manager, there is nothing under Network adapter except Ndivia network controller. I look at the bios but can't find anything related to the wireless. Can you explain a bit more detail so I can find it?

Answer:Wireless device missing

Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread when you have a new issue. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread.

I've created a new thread for your issue here.

Note: You will need to post complete details of your configuration and your specific issue in this new thread for us to help you.

Thanks for your cooperation.

The sound device on my computer seems to be missing. I tried to play a file on my computer but i cant and got this message:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly.

The Sounds and Audio Devices in the Control Panel detects no audio devices although under Hardware, there are audio drivers installed.

Everything was going smoothly until this morning when I tried to play the music file. I could play music files last night.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Answer:Sound device missing

Try and reinstall your drivers, you will probably find that they are corrupt or faulty. If you do not have them handy, then you can easily find some on the internet via Google etc.
