Solved: Outook and Windows 7

Question: Solved: Outook and Windows 7

Hello, I changed the operating system on my HP laptop from Vista to Windows 7. I performed a back-up pior to the change. Once the change had completed I loaded microsoft office 2007 and clicked on outlook. unfortunately it started as a new install and I have now lost all my previous emails and do not now how to recover them. Can anyone help please?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I know there have been some posts going back over a year, but none of them fully solve this issue. For years, the best way to sync Outlook 2010(without corporate exchange server) to the windows phone has been to use the Google Calendar connector to get to their cloud and then onto the Windows phone. This had the advantage of doing two-way synchronization and working with the default calendar in Outlook (the existing .PST file).
Google fully discontinued this service on August 1. Microsoft does not have as simple a solution. The two options I've seen for cloud syncing are to use the Microsoft Hotmail Connector and to use Google App Sync. The Hotmail Connector does not work with the default Outlook profile which means than when an invitation is received from any email account other than hotmail/ it saves to the default calendar, and you then have to copy it to the hotmail calendar in order to sync. The Google App Sync requires a whole different profile with a migration which is an equally big headache or possibly greater. So, neither of these options work without making a lot of manual intervention.
I've been using a local sync program called CompanionLink to sync contacts, notes and tasks. It can sync the calendar but has a couple of disadvantages. 1) you need to manually sync calendar which is not good if constantly on the go and always want to have your appointments. 2) CompanionLink does not feed appointments into the native calendar so it won't appear on the loc... Answer:How to sync Outook 2010 (non-corporate) with Windows phone?

Frankly the best solution is to sign up for MS Office 365. The cheapest plan (Exchange Online) is $4 per month per user, so for $48/year, you'll get seamless sync of contacts, calendar, tasks, and if you choose, email and more, across Outlook and Windows Phone.
Not free, but works much better than Google's App Sync, the Hotmail Connector, and any of the local sync solutions, and it'll work great with any other devices you add in to sync with (since everything supports EAS).

Hi all. Irritating & timewasting beyond belief - even for Microsoft - is a hidden shortcut in either Outlook 2007, Office 2007 or perhaps in Windows 7. Centred apparently on the "T" key, a combination of keystrokes reduces the display size of text I type. At enormous waste of time, each occurrence can be remedied, via the View tab in Outlook 2007, then the "zoom" facility. But how do I a) locate the set up instructions for this shortcut, and b) alter or reload them?

I'm a reasonably sensitive typist: this glitch is wasting sooo much of my time. Am in the dire straights of using new Windows 7, with new Office 2007 apps, on a new laptop, a Dell Inspiron 1545.

Advice on shortcut set-up in Outlook 2007, and or in Windows 7 will be much appreciated. Thanks

Answer:Outook 2007 or Windows 7 keyboard shortcut, reducing size of display text.

Is it a laptop you are using.....if so are you sure its not the zoom function on the touch pad

I always keep a backup of my Outlook .pst file just n case I need it...

Just doing a back up and notice that the files do not have any association linked... I am sure it used to show the Outlook icon but can't be sure... can anyone confirm this.. I did try to link to Outlook but is failed...

This is what I mean...

This is what I get when I try to associate it to Outlook... Which seems odd... unless it is because Outlook is open?

Answer:Outook Office 365 .pst

Mine have the Outlook association, I'm using the Office 2016 package rather than the Office 365 but should be same.

I would advise you use the installer (uninstaller - Change), to do a repair rather than manually setting the association as the Office associations are not standard

Question: outook calendar

Bought a new laptop, took my Office 2000 Professional to be installed, instead he put on another Outlook. I installed Outook 2000, removed his program and now I get an error re:pst file. Any idea why I can't send/receive mail?

Question 2: My three year old laptop worked fine until the power cord somehow pulled the plug-in from the motherboard. Repair shop kept it for three weeks, said they soldered it several times and it wouldn't hold, so they sold me a new one. Did I get ripped off or is it next to impossible to fix?

Thanks so much for any advice given,

Answer:outook calendar

Hello and Welcome to TSF

I cannot answer your first question, there is not enough information to go off of. You need to post a complete error message and when you recieve this error.

As for question 2, yes you can solder those connections back on to the motherboard but sometimes they dont hold as they stated. You may just have had a unexperienced person do the soldering, hard to tell.

Answer:Help using Outook 2010

If it is only that one Email, I would guess Outlook classes it as a security risk/virus/trogan and will not allow it.You could check the security settings (may be set too high)or if it is an attachment, you may have to save it first, before trying to open it.Terry

I've just ordered Outlook Office 2007 which has Outlook 2007 included. However I've just thought - I have activesync 3.8 which works perfectly with my PDA (HP2210) at the moment. Will installing Outlook 2007 cause any problems?

Answer:Outook 2007 + Activesync 3.8

I do not know if you will have problems but in any event it would probably be better to bring Active Sync up to date - it is v4.5 now.

I looked around and for some reason I can't create a email template in outlook 2007.
I found this:

Save the email as a template. Select the "Office" button, and then "Save As" in the "Save as type" drop-down list. Select "Outlook Template." Give the template a name, and choose a file location, or accept the default folder of "Templates." Click "Save."

BUT there is no option in the SAVE AS drop down menu for Save As Template....

Answer:Can't create outook template

HiI don't use Outlook. However I do use other Office applications. When I want to save a Document or Excel Template I click on File on the toolbar and select Save as.In the dialog box that opens, I click on the down arrow at the end of the box that says Save as type and this gives me the options to save the file as a template (amongst other things).

I finally ditched Outlook for my emails and went with Thundrbird, which looks like a great program. However, I still have to rely on Outlook for the Calender and Tasks features. I looked around a little, and found Lightning, but the reviews where not completely supportive. And I would like to have it integrated in my email client, so Sunbird is probably out.

Here we go again - another problem with Outlook, but this time I think it is Yahoo UK (please note UK):

I have had 1 email acct with gmail and 2 email accts with Yahoo UK. They have worked fine until a few days ago. When I try send/receive one Yahoo account came up with error 0x800CCC92. I finally removed it and when I tried putting it in as new, the test message would not work. After repeated attempts, I now can send for some reason, but for receiving I get:

Log onto incoming mail server (POP3): Your email server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password for this account in Account Settings. The server responded: -ERR (AUTH) Incorrect username or password.

I can access my email on the web for that account with no problem. All of the settings are exactly the same as the Yahoo account that works and I still cannot get the incoming to work on this one.

Any ideas?

Answer:Outook 2010 ERR (AUTH)

I've been having problems with Outlook Express crashing and/or having problems that keep giving me an error message about the log file being too big or something. I keep my sent file folder and deleted file folder relatively empty. My inbox has less than 20 items in it, none of them huge. Can anyone tell me how and where I can fix this? If there is no fix, if I download a new copy of Outlook Express over the old one, will my address book reamin in tact? Thanks for your help.

Answer:Outook Express - log file problem

Try some maintenance first and see if this helps to clear it up.
Close all programs except Outlook Express, including any antivirus programs you may have running.

First in OE, Tools>Options>Maintenance, uncheck the option for: Compact messages in the background and leave it unchecked from now on.

File>Folder>Compact all Folders. Leave the computer alone until it has completed compacting.

Let us know if this resolves the problem or not.

I am operating on Windows 7 OS and am having difficulty with Outlook for Office 2010. It always asks for a password each time I sign on and when I open an email. For some reason it doesn't store my password.

Answer:Outook 2010 always requires password

That problem is by no means unique to Outlook 2010, it happens also on Outlook 2007 and on the version before that, and neither is it unique to Windows 7.

Try putting your POP3 server name and password into the "Credential Manager" in Control Panel. For good measure I entered my email credentials twice -- in "Windows Credentials" and in "Generic Credentials". I hardly see that pesky password prompt since doing that.

I created a database in Access 2007. I am a relative newbe at this. One of the functions that I am using is a macro that Microsoft supplied as part of a Contacts table/form template to add Contacts from Outlook to the Contacts table in the the database. It was working just fine until I split the database, putting the tables on a server and the front end on my local PC. After splitting, it will no longer work. I have spent hours searching the Web and found 100's for people asking the same question, but no solution. Front and back end files are all in Trusted locations. Went back to a copy of the pre-split database (which still worked) and copy the object to the new split database. Would not work in the new database. . Saw some talk about using a temp Contacts table, but it did not give enough detail for me to follow.

Anyone have any ideas

Hello, I was hoping someone could help me with an Outlook 2007 issue a user has been having. Last week, our exchange server was flooded by a lot of e-mails, causing our users messages they tried to send out to fail and given a Outlook delivery delayed message for each. The issue was solved but I have one user who still has a delivery delayed mail in this inbox and upon trying to open it, Outlook crashes and if you try to deleted it, you get the message:

"One or more items in the folder you synchronized do not match. To resolve the conflicts, open the items, and they try this operation again."

I was thinking this notification was in sync with the e-mail that was delayed, so I did a search and couldn't not find anything related to it. Any ideas on who to get rid of this troublesome message?

Go Start>Run and type in msconfig. In the Startup tab, untick Windows Updater, Apply, OK and tick the "Don't show this message again" box, then OK. Check in Task Manager to make sure no updater processes are showing. It may be that a download of updates was interrupted so go to the Microsoft site and check for new updates manually.

Ok guys I've just sorted out my black screen problem, I know so many cases of black screen are different but I thought I'll post mine so you can check if it works for you.

1.First open up an image editor.
2.Take a print screen.
3. Ctrl + V it into the image editor.

IF YOU SEE YOU HAVE 2 WINDOWS SCREENS BUT ONLY 1 MONITOR THEN THIS IS YOUR SOLUTION. If not and you still have black screen, sorry I can't help you.

1.Start > Devices and Printers.

2. You should see two monitors, right click the 1 on the left. (Likely to be the default, although both monitors are actually the same because you only have one!)

3.On the "Multiple Displays" drop down menu select: Duplicate these displays.

I am aware this is a quick fix and doesnt get to the root of the problem but at least it works. I also disabled the monitor on the right (properties, advanced, properties, disable).

Another way to check if this is your problem without print screen is if your mouse goes off the right side of your screen but stays within the top, left and bottom parameters.

Hope this helps.

Answer:Solved: Solved: Replace Windows Vista with 2000

Welcome to TSG....

I think it is too far to go back operating system wise. People going back to Windows XP are doing better but all of the drivers for that particular operating system are needed and with the BIOS being wrong for windows 2000 you are up the creek with out a paddle.

We recently did a Windows Update to our Windows Vista Home Premium operated system.

This is the update:
Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (KB936330)

Installation date: ‎10/‎09/‎2009 2:42 AM

Installation status: Successful

Update type: Important

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) is an update to Windows Vista that addresses key feedback from our customers. Windows Vista SP1 addresses specific reliability and performance issues, supports new types of hardware and adds support for several emerging standards. After you install this item, you will have to restart your computer.Click to expand...

It says it did it on the 10th, but we actually installed it on the 9th. It always off by a day even if the date and time on our computer is right.

HOWEVER, this has changed the appearance of our system back to something that would be on a Windows 95 or earlier computer. I am very bugged by this and I'm wondering what's happened.

We installed an update for a 'Service Pack 2', hoping that it would fix this problem, but we turn on the computer this morning and nothing's changed.

The icons still have the Windows Vista look but that's about it. I would like to upload a screenshot of our desktop, to give you guys a clear understanding of what's happening however I click the attachment icon above but it doesn't do anything.

So I just reformatted my computer with Windows XP SP3 and some minor issue is really bugging me. I've seen other computers before like this, but this is the first time this has happened to me. First off, I think the two problems are related, but whatever, the first is a drag & drop issue. Anytime in the explorer windows when I click and drag (whether selecting files or not) it no longer appears as a lightly colored box, and instead a gray box with nothing but an outline of the area selected. When I select more than one file and begin to drag them, they no longer appear as semi-invisible files, and now just are gray outlined boxes. When I move or expand/minimize a window, it doesn't show the window moving, just a gray outlined box moving where the window would be. Of course when you let go of the click, everything is as it should be, but it's just something irritating me at the moment after 10 years of usage.

I am pretty sure it all ties into each other as the same issue, most likely a registry thing, but thanks to anyone who can let me know what to do in order to get back to what it should look like. I wish I could better describe it as I know it was a little hard for a real accurate description. So basically, a lot of the maneuvers that should be happening are looking more like an older version of Windows.

Whoever can help, thanks. If you want to know more info just ask.

Hey all,

After completely accidentally doing something called "RAID" to my hard drives, i am in the position of having to re-install Windows. Unfortunately the Windows disk keeps telling me that i have no hard drive.

I have found this tutorial: ...which seems to be based on the assumption that the problem is that Windows XP does not have SATA drivers.

I don't know if that is the problem, but i am going to try it anyway. Unofrtunately, you need a SATA driver to try it. I have been to the manufacturers website:

...and found a list of drivers for my machine. One of them says "SATA RAID". I don't think i want RAID, and, looking at the manual that comes with that driver, it doesn't look like it is a SATA driver, it looks like it is for something else involving RAID that i don't understand.

Does anyone know how to get a SATA driver?

Answer:Solved: Installing Windows XP Home; Windows refuses to recognise hard drives

I believe the SATA drivers you need are these ones:

"Intel ICH5R /ICH6R /ICH7R (Preinstall driver, press F6 during Windows* setup to read from floppy)"

Download them and extract them onto a floppy or CD, then during the intial windows setup (when it is loading device drivers) it will come up with an option to install 3rd party SATA / RAID drivers, you press F6 at this point and then browse to the drivers to install them. This should allow the system to utilise the SATA drives to install windows.

Hey folks!

When I started my computer today, i was told it could not boot due to \windows\system32\config\system being missing or not working properly. It explained I could pop in my Windows XP cd to go to the repair thingy(don't actually know the name - my computer settings is in Danish, I hope you understand). And nothing happened and I was told to write EXIT to restart the computer and other than than a cmd promt where i could type commands. Due to not being that tech savy, i decided to get online and search around for a way around it, if it existed.

I read that others had the same problem and various other stuff how to solve it. Most popular the "copy c:\windows\repair\system c:\windows\system32\config" and "chkdsk :c /r"

I hereafter tried the chkdsk c: /r method seeing as moving/copying things around with no idea what i was doing could be a bad idea.
It ran the CheckDisk test, and said some problems were fixed. But when i restarted the computer the problem was still there.

Now my question. Should I attempt the copy method, and is there anything special I should note? OR is there another way to do this. A windows install on top of my own? But I really don't wanna lose any data, as I have a lot of work on it.

Some details which might be important:

Answer:[SOLVED] Cannot boot windows - \windows\system32\config\system missing or broken

With some help from my brother(who is a lot better at this than me) we tried the copy thing. Moved the old system file away, and brought in the system.bak from the repair folder, renamed it to system and rebooted.

Now it didn't say anything about the system file missing or being broken, but came up with the windows loading screen, then went to black and for a very bried moment came up with a blue screen with some text on it before it restarts.
I can't make out what it says on the blue screen because it is so very brief.

And now it just reboots over and over again. Have we done something completely wrong?

Hey guys. I made a post similar to this in windows 2000-xp-2003 forum, but no responses. I recently installed windows 2000 on my moms computer. Since then, every computer is detecting an "internet connection" in the XP Network Connections. WHY? Its slowing the internet down, and Nobody on the network can acces the windows 2000 files. she has no problems doing anything, printing-seeing files- you name it. The XP machins can print to my printer (since its on my computer), but nobody can acces her computer. can you please help me?

Ok the "internet Connection" thing came from the router I have (Netgear MR814v2) haing UPnP enabled, which made it do that. The File sharing is also fixed, the problem was Mcafee persoanl Firewall wasnt lettin me into her pc, since mcafee was blocking it.

Yesterday, when I double clicked on an MP3 I'd just downloaded, Media Player didn't start. I tried using a launcher to open it. When that didn't work, I tried opening it from Explorer, but no go.

Today I wanted to run a search to make sure a backup operation had worked correctly. When I clicked the Search Button I got a blank Search Companion the color of my desktop.

Usually, I use another player to listen to music, even though WMP is my default player. And usually, I use Search GT instead of Windows Search when I'm looking for a file. So - I don't know exactly when the applications quit. I am wondering if it has anything to do with Windows latest update. However, I don't see anyone else posting about this problem.

My system is fully patched. I ran a virus scan and got nothing. Event viewer doesn't show any errors. Very odd. Computer is running fine, no problems except for this.

Suggestions would be welcome.

Last week Firefox was crashing every 10 minutes and every day this got worse. I determined it was not a Firefox issue as other programs were crashing too. I then received the Blue Screen of death saying the file:" win32.sys" may be causing the problem. I re-started my computer in safe mode and no programs would open, i would get errors saying it could not locate the program. My computer then crashed again with a different error on the blue screen (the message is slightly different every time).

I tried a repair installation of windows which did not work.
I formatted the hard drive completely and re-installed windows which did not work.

I now cannot even log on as every time I boot up I get a message saying the computer has turned off as a result of a fatal system error. : ?Stop: C000021A (Fatal System Error) The session manager initialization system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0XC000026C (0X00000000 0X00000000) The system has been shut down.?

The computer is a Dell Dimension 4700
It is over 7 years old.

Is this likely to be a hardware fault?
Is there a way to solve this problem?
What would you recommend I do?
Thanks in advance.

The title says it. If I shut down and boot up, WinExplorer works fine, but after coming out of hibernation or sleep mode, WinEx hangs...I get a msg saying it's not responding and a choice to shut down Ex or restart it. Also, can't move a file from one location to another, etc.
I've run malware scans, updated drivers and ran a SFC scan. The SFC scans results in a msg that says "there are corrupted files, but it was unable to fix them...see the CBS log for details". The log is quite lengthy (over 1mb txt file) and I don't understand it, so I've attached it....oops, looks like the file is too big to upload (1.01mb). Ok, I zipped it and it should be attached.

I've hunted the net for solutions, but can't quite find the same conditions I'm experiencing. Also same condition exists in safe mode (although I don't have a choice to hibernate there), so I ran the SFC utility and came up with the same message regarding corrupted files.

I'm running Win 7 Pro w/SP1 on a Dell Optiplex 64bit and 6gb of RAM...and plenty of HDD space. I appreciate any ideas to fix this. Thanks, Dondd

Evening all,

I'm having a weird issue concerning Windows 7 Home Premium, running SP-1, 64-Bit Edition. To fully explain what's happening, please note that I will state everything that happened leading up to the issue to better portray my problem.

This morning I woke up and the first thing I always do is switch on my PC to check email and to have a quick chat with my friend who lives In Australia before it get's late over there. My PC was on, running S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Call of Pripyat via steam at the time, whilst still talking to my friend in Australia. Whilst typing to him, my system locked up mid sentence.

I left it for 15 minutes, got Coffee to wake up, still froze.. I had no choice to manually switch it off via the Power Button on the Tower. When I switch the tower back on, I had no Display on the screen. Now, this isn't actually the problem, I've fixed this kind of issue on a friends PC before and knew straight away my Memory Modules had just died. I removed the RAM, switched on, waited for the long Beep to confirm my Mobo was still breathing.. Placed one Module back in, black screen, tried the other etc etc.. Simple fix, get my spare RAM that I saved from an older build, stuck them in, powered up.

At this point I had to fix a corrupt winload.exe (Or similar) likely due to me having to turn the power off manually.. I hit the Recovery Console, let Window's do it stuff, corrupt file repaired, hello desktop..Just to confirm it wasn't a o... Read more

Answer:Solved: Windows 7 - Cannot Boot Windows/Safe Mode/Recovery/Disk

Hmmm, It seems I've just resolved my own issue.

I didn't realise but I seem to have replaced my 4GB (2x 2GB) with a mixed pair, although they both worked fine at first. I've removed one and replaced It with It's partner, now the PC seems to work fine. I'm typing this post from It, so, so far so good.

It was to my understanding Memory Modules worked fine in a mixed pair, the only downfall being they would be as fast as the slowest module?

Either way, issue resolved.

When I download and install Windows Live Email 2011 onto Windows 7 64bit, will the installation automatically
find and install the correct server designations? Will the app then be ready for immediate use or is there anything else I have to do?

Answer:Solved: Windows Live Mail 2011 Installation on Windows 7 64bit

Windows Live Mail 2012 is the most current version.

I personally use it with Windows 7 32-bit.

If I remember correctly, you need to enter the correct email settings for your Internet Service Provider(ISP) after it's installed.

After you download and save the wlsetup-web.exe file, close all open windows first, then double-click the saved file to run it.

Make sure to uncheck all the extras you don't want to install with the email app.

If you don't, you'll wind up with a computer full unnecessary apps.

If you're not sure how to install it and set it up, you need to have a computer-knowledgeable person help you.

Please help! For the past few months our computer has been constantly popping up virus messages. Every few seconds we get a Windows antivirus message that says windows has detected spyware... As soon as I close this box it reappears. Every 2-3 minutes we get a Windows Security Alert stating Warning! Potential Spyware Operation! And sporatically we get a Trojan Found message from McAfee VirusScan although I can not delete the infected file.

I looked through some websites and messages on this board looking for help. I downloaded Super Antispyware Free Edition and ran that program. It deleted 450+ items but the computer is running no better and the messages are popping up just as often.

Moreover, I can not access my control panel through the start menu and can not add or remove programs.

I have seen some people post similar problems and they are told to run a Hijack report. I am not sure how to do that or what that means.

Can someone please advise? Thank you so much in advance for your help!!!

Answer:Solved: windows explorer, brings windows forward when selected, but not on task bar

dashdanw, Go to the link below and under the letter "T"-"Taskbar" click on "Minimized Programs Missing" to download a vbs file.

To use the VBS Files: Download .vbs file and save it to your hard drive (you may want to right click and use Save Target As). Double

NOTE: If your anti-virus software warns you of a "malicious" script, this is normal if you have "Script Safe" or similar technology enabled. These scripts are not malicious, but they do make changes to the System Registry.

Just today I decided to download the Windows 8 consumer preview and setup my PC to dual boot with it. I am running Windows 7 home premium 64bit and the 64 bit windows 8 on my other partition.

After setting up a separate partition on my harddrive and loading windows8 to this partition, I was all up and running. I had no problems setting up or running windows 8, the problem came when I booted back to windows 7 for the first time.

When I booted into windows 7, I was getting the "unable to identify network" error, and no network connectivity. First thing I tried was simply disable/enabling my network adapter thinking it was just some hiccup. No luck there. Next I pulled the power from my router, and let it completely reboot. Still no luck. I then shut down my pc and booted back into windows 8 and sure enough I am able to get internet connectivity when I am running windows 8.

This got me to thinking that when I loaded windows 8 there may be some new drivers installed for my network card that are somehow causing issues when I load into windows 7 again. Not sure how this is possible, I was under the understanding that when I loaded Win8 to the separate partition that it would keep all it's drivers and settings there and not effect anything when I was loaded back on windows 7 (This logic could be completely wrong, I don't know). So I rebooted and loaded back into windows7, went into device manager and uninstalled both network adapters and drivers, and reboote... Read more

Ok, so things have gone to pot and I don't know where the fault lies between a damned virus and my own mistakes in trying to fix the laptop.
I have a Toshiba Satellite A505-S69803; serial number Y9340538Q, with Windows 7, 500Gb HDD at 5400rpm and 4Gb RAM... I think that's all correct.
Anyway, long story short, I got a b!tch of a virus, which apparantly was doing all sorts of nasty things to the explorer.exe file in particular. So I backed up all my important stuff: files, Uni work, writings, music and photos etc onto an external hard-drive and went about restoring the laptop to out-of-box factory settings by making the Windows 7 Recovery Media Discs. But when I try to use the discs I get told after about 30 minutes The Toshiba Recovery Wizard "Can't read from the source file or disk: PREINST5.SW5" with options to: Try Again (The same thing happens), or Skip (Same message again), or Cancel (in which case I'm back where I started).
After the Recovery Wizard failed I chose the option to erase the hard-drive; it then appeared that when I turn on the laptop as normal I was told <Error>: F3-F200-0002 and the Recovery Media Disks still refuse to work.

I am working on someone else's computer and they are having Windows Update problems. Not a single update can install. It downloads, installs, and restarts, but on boot, it undoes all changes. I have tried installing only one (of 100+) but it still fails. I have tried CCleaner for registry/cache issues, sfc /scannow (twice, both the first thing and last thing I tried), and the Windows Update Troubleshooter (it finds lots of issues but can't fix them).
This may or may not be related to the problem recently (when I started working on the computer) that Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011 won't open any photos. The program itself opens, but clicking on a photo gives an error message and clicking OK crashes the program. Windows Photo Viewer says "Loading" forever, too. I have tried the Windows Live Essentials troubleshooter, uninstalling (it fails), installing again (it fails), and manually deleting registry entries and folders (was suggested to me), rebooting, and installing again, and it still fails.
Adding to the corruption, there are some document files that won't delete (file doesn't exit error, while still listed). This has been happening for years, and I have yet to find a solution for them.

The system is a Sony Vaio laptop (about 3 years old) running Windows 7 Home Premium x64. Right now I only have access with TeamViewer, but I can get physical access tomorrow if needed.

Answer:Solved: Windows Livemail - unable to send or receive Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x80

For the benefit of anyone who has a similar problem .... I eventually found this on the Yahoo web site

Yahoo Mail
We've recently updated our servers for your safety and now require a secure connection when accessing Yahoo Mail from a mobile device or mail client.

If you're using an unsecured connection, you'll receive a connection-related error. Don't worry, here's how to fix it.

POP server settings
Want to access Yahoo Mail from an email program like Outlook or Mac Mail? Here's the settings you'll need.

Incoming Mail (POP) Server - Requires SSLSecure Socket Layer
•Port: 995
•Requires SSL: Yes
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - Requires TLSTransport Layer Security
•Port: 465 or 587
•Requires SSL: Yes
•Requires authentication: Yes
If your POP client doesn't offer TLS, you'll still be able to use SSL.

Login info - Requires authentication

•Email address: Your full email address ([email protected])
•Password: Your account's password.

In my case I simply had to check the SSL box, which automatically set the incoming port to 995. It also set the outgoing to 25, which I reset to 587. Problem solved.

Would have been nice if Yahoo had warned me of the "update" in advance.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium installed.

When I installed the updates shown in the attached screen printout and restart the computer (Gateway laptop with Intel T2060 1.6GHz) I get the following message: "An unauthorized change has been made to your licence", I'm been ask to activate Windows online (although I already activated Windows!), which I can't do since I don't have a LAN connection...

The only solution I found was to restore to before this update installation and disable Windows update... which is a bit annoying, right?

I ran avast anti-virus and uniblue spyeraser... problem is still there.

Any help, please?
(I must say I purchased this laptop second-hand)

Answer:[SOLVED] can't start Windows (Vista) after Windows update installation

I would say selectively install them one at a time till you find the one that is causing the issue, and then research as to why it is doing this. Someone else may have a more pinpoint answer, but this is where I would start.

Now, i have had a recent account on these forums but i could not remember the details. So please don't show little respect due to my low post count, or, 'inactivity'.

I've just upgraded from Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit to Windows 7 equivalent. So far i'm liking it, but, when i attempt to run World of Warcraft (again, please don't show disrespect) i get the error mentioned in the topic title, and displayed in the screenshot below.

I've researched for a while now, but can't seem to find a Windows 7 fix. I'm thinking it's on the registry side of things, but i could be something to do with permissions aswell. My UAC is disabled, and i have rebooted my system to confirm that.

So, please, anybody want to give me some support? Thanks.

First, if I'm in the wrong forum, I apologize. Let me know and I'll try to find the right one.

A few days ago, my sister in laws antivirus popped up to tell her the win32 virus was detected on her computer. It wanted to quarantine the file. She clicked "quarantine all" without thinking. Her system rebooted several times with no obvious problem. On the last reboot, as soon as the puter got past the bios screen, the monitor went black. She tried to reboot several times but it wouldn't boot up, not even in safe mode. She brought it to me to look at. I put her HDD into my external case and fired up my machine. My computer showed 2 partitions on her HDD. One was a recovery partition and the other was her C drive. I opened the C drive with windows explorer. I clicked on the windows folder and waited for it to open. I waited for about 10 minutes only to realize that the folder was already open. It was totally empty. I did a search for some of the files that should have been in the windows folder. Nothing. All windows files and sub folders were missing. I went into the quarantine folder and found 1 system file but nothing else. How is this possible

The recovery partition is totally useless to her. It will reinstall Vista but she hates Vista. She had Vista removed and XP installed. I know she has a legitimate copy of XP. I took her to buy it. However, she can't find it now. I knew it wouldn't work but still I ran a key finder with no results. As fa... Read more

Answer:Solved: All Windows Files Missing Except Mail Windows Folder

You need to do a repair install with your copy of xp heres how:

One of the best kept secrets of Windows XP is it's built in repair feature!

In previous versions of Windows, correcting an operating system error, or installing a new motherboard, usually meant formating and reinstalling, resulting in loss of all data. Don't worry; Windows XP repair feature won't delete your data, installed programs, personal information, or settings. It just repairs the operating system!

Note: The system repair function will remove any updates you have previously installed that are not included on the CD. Drivers will also be reverted to their original XP versions, as well as some settings (network & performance settings may sometimes be reset to their defaults). It may be necessary to reactivate your Windows XP as well. When finished, you will have to download all of the updates from Microsoft Windows Update, because they are all replaced during repair.

Why would I want to reinstall Windows XP?
1) Can't start Windows XP in safe mode.
2) You have problems caused by a recently installed system update (Windows Update, hotfix, Windows XP service pack, or Microsoft Internet Explorer update).
3) Your problems can't be solved with system restore, or you can't access system restore.
4) You've installed a new motherboard, or made other major hardware changes and need to reinstall Windows.

My dad accidentally installed Windows XP Over the current working Windows XP Service Pack 2.
THis is on an old laptop which has some important school work which I have been trying to get copied to memory stick but with no luck.
My dad thought the laptop was running ever so slow and thought that reinstalling XP would make it quicker again.

Now after it has done, the laptop not running well at all.
It loads but when you choose ANY user account it loads up till the desktop and nothing happens after that. THe start menu and icons don't show up. Its like its got nothing else to load. The task manager can be run (control+alt+del) and everything is responding.
I have also tried running it in safe mode but the same still happens.

THe closest I have got was to use the XP disk and use the recovery console and try to use the command promp to copy the documents and settings\my documents into the memory stick but when it tries to go to documents and settings it says that the access is denied .
I think the laptop would eventually have it formatted and started again but is there anyway to get the work off it into the memory stick??

Hello everyone. So I've just encountered this problem early this morning. My computer was running fine last night and everything was working properly, turned it off and when I turned it back on in the morning, I noticed that the Network icon says I don't have internet access. However, I tried using Google Chrome and see if I could still access websites and yes, I still can. So, I figured it was just a virus that I caught or something so I scanned my computer with Norton Antivirus 2010 and found nothing. After that, I tried using System Restore, unfortunately I get an error on it "System Restore does not appear to be functioning correctly on this system. A Volume Shadow Copy Service component encountered an unexpected error. Check the Application event log for more information (0x80042302)". I have also tried running the sfc /scannow command and system restore in safe mode, but still doesn't work. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Hi there,

I have a laptop here that will not boot into anything. When booting into Windows XP it will hang at the progress bar screen. When booting into Safe Mode it hangs at Mup.sys. When trying to boot off a Windows disc it will start loading the drivers and then I'll get a STOP 0x7B error. I have slaved the HDD in another machine and removed all viruses, run several chkdsk's and also replaced the Mup.sys driver. Still the same thing happens. I have also tried another HDD and tried to just boot from the Windows XP disc again and the same thing happens.

I am running windows 7 on a refurbished hp envy 17, which I purchased about 4 months ago. The computer usually works really well; however recently I noticed that if I open a windows explorer window from within another program (ie - selecting download location of a file) the computer invariably slows down for about 15 seconds and then freezes. I don't have this problem when I open windows explorer by itself from the start menu or if I browse files from my desktop (via my computer).

I was wondering if anyone could offer me some guidance on how to figure out what is causing this.

So a customer brings in his Acer desktop that is infected and wanted us to do a format/reload of windows on the unit. The unit has a built in restore partiton so I did a wipe and clean install. Here is the weird part. I get weird windows pop ups. I suspect a virus, but on a freash load of windows there shouldn't be any viruses. What happens is:

A internet explorer dialog box shows up saying: Do you want to delete weather? OK or CANCEL

so I kill the process and now I am getting random, what seems to be legit websites.

Youtube shows up. I kill the process
I start to run updates and then
Outlook express opens up and has microsofts support email in the TO: line
I Kill the process
Then google accounts webpage pops up

and in the middle of all of this I threw out a keyboard with the quick connect buttons(suspect they are flaking out) I ran a virus scan, which came up with a trojan in the system restore points?? I removed it and problem still remains. I cannot run SP3. It crashes. This is all on a fresh load of windows. Unless the restore partition is infected or this would be the first BIOS(?) infection I have ever seen. Any thoughts or ideas??

M installing windows 7 form an unlegit copy of windows xp (I didn't to that, friend did :(. He kinda ripped me off, anyway) we bought a good legit copy, did a custom install from xp, not from disc as it would not let us, due to some kind of virtual drive being created, when unlegit copy was installed (I think). When it went to restart, it started up, loaded a bit, than went to a black screen where it read "starting windows" except without the usual logo. We are planning to do a hard drive format to clean it up and boot off disc to fix, any other simpler solutions?

Answer:[SOLVED] Windows 7 install stuck on starting windows with no icon?

If you are trying to upgrade XP to Windows 7, you can't as there's no upgrade path from XP to Windows 7. Windows 7 has to be installed on to an empty partition using a full version Windows 7 DVD (ie not an upgrade version).

Hey guys! I recently restarted my computer to install an important update (according to Windows 7 Updater). When the computer restarted I noticed that all of my effects and windows are now running very slow (there is no hitch in response time, but the actual animation of the windows appearing and flying up to the desktop are very slow).

Flash games and my video games seem to run very slow now too. (Youtube video playback works flawlessly though. Strange.) My computer is correctly identifying my Graphics card (Nvidia Geforce 9600) but everything is acting as if I am not using a proper card.

This is odd because not five minutes earlier everything was running at optimal speeds. The only thing I can think of that has changed is that update that was installed.

I am updating my GFX card drivers now, but I want to know if the issue is something else entirely.

If you have any more questions I will answer them.

About 2-3 days ago, I downloaded the windows 7 64 bit updates. After the re-boot, some of my programs I use kept asking "do you want to change your system", or something like that. I never got that before because I loaded these programs myself.
Today, 12/12, I received one new update to MS windows 7 that took about 10 minutes to download and install. I re-booted, and now everything is fine. I think MS forgot, or coded the update wrong.
Does anyone know what happened, or did anyone experience this same problem? I have a Dell XPS.

Hi guys, I used windows 7 on my Gigabyte Q1580L Laptop, and I formatted it. After installing the new windows 7 Ultimate edition that I use, the laptop reboots, but it doesn't go past the "Press any key to boot from CD" screen. I have tried installing window 7 several times now and it keeps giving me the same problem. I have also run the troubleshooting from the windows 7 CD, but it didn't find any problems. I just don't understand why this Windows 7 doesn't want to start up, because it works on my other computer, so there is nothing wrong with the Windows 7 CD, and my laptop had windows 7 on it, and now its not working.

Can anyone please assist me in why this keeps happening?

Hello Everyone,

I come with quite a strange problem with my Netbook (Advent 4213), I have it dual-booting Windows XP & Ubuntu Netbook Edition, however the mouse & keyboard have decided to cease up every time I use Windows XP, some times I get a couple of seconds use out of it before the log on screen, but after this they both stop working.

I have tried to re-install Windows, However the USB Install disk I have also denies the use of the Keyboard & Mouse during the installation. But this is not the most confusing part.

You would think that if it does not work on the Windows OS or the Windows Install that it would be a Hardware problem, however, It works perfectly fine in Ubuntu.

I have plugged in a USB keyboard & mouse and that seems to work in Windows XP, however I think you can all vouch for me when I say I do not want to be lugging a keyboard & mouse around with an ultra-portable Netbook.

There is software related to my phone of which I would like to use but can only use on XP, it would be good to be able to use this without an external KB & Mouse.

Any help would be fantastic, thanks in advance,

Problem: Windows Firewall is not working

Specifics:Windows firewall service unable to start. Only dependency not starting is the base filtering engine which produces an error code on start stating:

"Windows could not start the base filtering service on Local Computer

Description of Solutions/More Information:

Okay, i used to have a virus which apparently deleted the firewall and windows defender services.

Now however, the virus is (I believe through the use of MSE and Malware byte) gone, but base filtering enginge refuses to start. Logon permissions's name is set to "local service "and when i try to load the service i get the error message stating that access is denied

This is the only dependancy that i currently know of that has this error and refuses to start.

I have tried sfc scannow which could not fix some of the problems (i ran cmd as admin and will attach a log)

I have tried various cmd lines that i found online to people with similiar problems to no avail. I have tried microsoft fix it and it too failed in starting the windows firewall service (most likely again due to the bfe service)

I checked the permissions normally through reg edit and my current account had full control.

I'm sure someone here has seen this before, but for all the reading I've done I haven't found anyone with a genuine resolution.

I have a very small network with a one Windows 7 and one Windows XP computer. They are each attached to a netgear switch which gets the internet from the dsl router. Obviously all hard wired.

Everything was fine (both computers could see each other and were playing nice together) for months and no changes were made to any settings, and no new software or hardware was added to the system.

Suddenly neither machine can see each other in the network. The XP machine cannot access a previously mapped shared folder on the 7 machine.

So I started trying things like pinging etc... The XP machine cannot ping the 7 machine at all, but the 7 machine can ping the XP machine, but cannot access a shared folder via mapping.

What should I do next? I'm totally overwhelmed.
