'program.exe' is not a valid win32 application error

Question: 'program.exe' is not a valid win32 application error

Hi I have been having problems lately with System Restore, Magnify, and WordPad (the only ones i have noticed so far) that when I start them they give me an error stating they're "not valid win32 application(s)". I was able to fix my system restore by opening command and doing a 'SFC /SCANNOW' scan. I was wondering if there is anythig else I can type in command to hopefully fix the other two programs? Or are there any other solutions to this problem?

Preferred Solution: 'program.exe' is not a valid win32 application error

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:program.exe is not a valid win32 application error

Have you run an up to date virus checker? I ask because the SirCam virus can modify the .exe file association in the registry.

I'm troubleshooting a Windows XP (SP2) eMachine (with a fresh OS install on a new hard drive - no original eMachine software remains on the system) and I've never encountered such a persistent problem: certain applications (Fruit Loops, Adobe Acrobat Reader, among others) run fine after installation, but after a reboot they will not run. Their shortcuts, as well as the actual program executables, lose their original icons and are mysteriously changed to the generic window icon (the one Windows will use for a file type is doesn't recognize.) When I try to run these programs, using the desktop shortcut OR the actual executable, I get the error dialog box: "This program is not a valid Win32 application." This happens to several applications, while others (Pro Tools, Acid) remain unaffected and can be executed w/o any problem.
*Note: this computer is not connected to the Internet, so it is unlikely that this is some type of virus.

What could be causing this? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

My family computer is a desktop PC running Windows Vista with McAfee. I make sure to run all updates ASAP. My updates are current through yesterday. When I tried to update my computer this morning, the updates failed with an unknown error. "Error(s) found: code 80070103 Windows Update encountered an unknown error"

This morning, I turned on the computer to find that McAfee has been disabled, Windows Defender has been disabled, and that I cannot turn them back on. Additionally, I cannot run any programs. Invariably, I get the response "program.exe is not a valid Win32 application" regardless of whether I run the program from the C drive or a USB.

Neither Internet Explorer nor Firefox are working; I can only access the internet by opening windows explorer and typing an address into the address bar in that window.

I have tried running McAfee in safe mode, but get the same message. I tried the "repair computer" function when I boot the computer, but it insists that I have another drive attached (though I have unplugged the camera, flash drvie, external hard drive)... There is nothing attached (except for the keyboard and mouse). I have tried restoring my computer to a previous restore point only to be told by the computer that there are no restore points.

I started Googling and thought that it may be the Bagle virus because of the "is not a valid Win32 application" but found none of the files listed on the Removing Bagle Infections page... Read more

Hello, Psychedea

Step 1:
Let's see if one of these online scanners can remove enough for you to then run our tools.

Using BitDefender Online Scan

TrendMicro HouseCall

Step 2:
Make sure that you transfer the tools to the instructed directories given in the R & R Me FIRST
Both SAS & MBAM should be saved to C:\Downloads.. then installed to C:\Program Files
Once installed, open each application and update their definitions databases before running a "Quick scan".

Step 3:
Then re-name MGTools.exe to MGTools.com and see if it will run.

Step 4:
Attach these logs to your reply -
bdscan.txt
TM Housecall results
MGLogs.zip
SASlog.txt
mbamlog.txt

Make sure you tell me if you had any problems running this procedure and give a description of how things are working now!

Please help if you can! After my son used my computer I noticed two problems which scare me and indicate (I think) a virus problem. First: after typing a Google query, I click onto the desired link and find myself redirected to other search engines which also performed the same search I had just requested from Google.Second: I downloaded the free Ad-awareAE program onto my desktop, but when I clicked on the icon to install it, i got the message "AD-Aware.exe is not a valid Win32 application"Based on some internet searches I made, it seems these are symptoms of virus activity and I am petrified to do any online banking. I was able to download Avest Antivirus and found 4 trojan viruses on my pc. It eliminated them but the two problems still persist. Please help! OK, this is admittedly a strange one...

I have used an old (probably a 16-bit) application as my time synchronizer this I've used for quite some time. Its name is TimeRC, and is a great synchronizer as it tracks moon phases along with the time (from selectable, multiple potential time servers). After a fatal software crash a couple of weeks ago, I'm in the process of recovery. Attempts to manually launch the EXE, result in a launch-time error stating that the ap is not compatible with my Windows 7 Pro (SP1). Note that I'm running on the same level of Windows that I was using prior to the crash/re-install. I have inhibited compatibility checking (Group Policy adjustment) only to incur the Win32 error.

I've been through the litany of utilities (registry) to correct this situation, and I KNOW that this ap runs just fine on Windows 7 (from pre-crash days). I am at my wits end trying to avoid this situation. I suspect that there is a registry setting difference (now versus pre-crash) about which I'm ignorant, so I'm open to any, and all suggestions.

To use an alternative time synchronizer is not an option...I'm anal about how my system looks, feels, and performs!! I've even tried running in XP mode (virtual machine) to no palatable result. Note that I don't have access to the program's source code, otherwise I could recompile!

There's got to be something that I'm missing.

Color me frustrated,
Randy Reist (Lairbear)

Hi,

I have read through the other threads that seem to treat similar problems but none of the solutions proposed fits my case.

The problem machine is running Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 with SP 3 (french).

Symptoms :

- Running many applications that previously worked gives me the "file.exe" is not a valid Win32 application error.
- I cannot boot into Safe Mode (the machine just cycles through and reboots), I can only boot into normal mode
- Machine is running slowly although I can't see any "greedy" processes in the Task Manager

I have tried the system restore several times to different points preceding the problem arriving, each time the system said it could not do the restore.

I have been through the Malware removal Guide read-me first and the Cleaning procedure but I still have the same problems. I have run several BAGLE removal tools as Asquared and Malewarebytes' AntiMalware detected this and apparently removed it.

I have uninstalled the Antivirus (Avast) and the malware removers that I had, been through the add and remove programs to remove anything I don't need / can reinstall later.

I have tried installing :

CCleaner / Search and Destroy / Kapersky / SuperAntiSpyware / Combofix.exe

none of them will run : always the "not a valid Win32 application error"

Can anyone help me ? I'm at a dead end.

Thanks in advance,

Steve

Answer:'is not a valid Win32 application' error

Please try this workaround (you will need your Windows? XP SP2 CD or an integrated SP3 CD if SP3 is installed).

(In the event that you do not have a Windows? XP CD with SP2,(or SP3) you will need to 'borrow' one from a friend or colleague, as the manufacturer's "Recovery Discs" will not work in this instance.)

Insert the Windows? XP CD in your drive. (Hold down the Shift Key to prevent it from starting.)

Go start > Run ...in the box type in sfc /scannow ?please take note of the space between the sfc and the /.

This is the System File Checker...it will scan all the Windows? core system files to ensure that they are in their respective correct places, and if not replace them from the CD. During the scan you may be asked to Insert the CD, if this happens just go retry and let it do its thing.

One important point: While sfc is running, it is not advisable to do any other work, or have any browsers/programs running on the computer, until the scan is complete. (This process will generally take around 45-65 minutes to complete).

This thing is making me wacko. The virus has taken control. It won't let me delete synchost from taskmgr., it shuts itself off. I can't run regedit, it says has been turned off by Administrator. System restores says not a valid WIN 32 application.

When I go on the internet it shows C:\.......tempie.html. This is the windows police pro file to control my internet. I can't find any reference to Windows Pro or Security Tool on the computer itself by doing search files and folders. But the url always direct to the screen where they want you to buy. I don't want to go back on without being in safe mode that's the only way they can't get in anything. But I'm obviously missing something because I can't open anything to fix anything. I downloaded Fixtm.reg but when I click on it says not a valid Win 32 application. Whatever that mean. So what else can I do. It must be something in my bootlog or somewhere. How can I turn back on regedit. It even was saying to me that system restore was locked. Please your domain administrator. Pulling on hair! So what would be my next step. Thank you Genius.

Help me please. I keep getting this message.

%1 is not a valid Win32 application.

It pops up on it's own over and over.

I have tryed searching for it and can not find it. I found some Win32 stuff but nothing with %1 in it. I cleaned up the hard drive, de-fragmented, and it's still popping up. I do run three different browsers. Google Chrome, Firefox3.1 and IE8
all of these have various add-ons. could one of these be the problem? If I can just find it and track down why it's on my computer, I could get to the source and fix it from there.
What is it, how do I locate it and how do I make it go away?

Thank you,

This covers the reason for the message I believe;

However, it may well be that whatever isn't presently running is something you don't want to actually run.

I have been trying to install a new disk of Office 2003 Prof onto a new Lenovo T400s Win XP Pro laptop and I can't get the cd rom to read the disk consistently.

When I do get the disk to "run" it asks for the product key. After entering that eventually get an error:
D:\autorun.vbs
Line 12
Char 1
Error .\setup.exe is not a valid Win 32 application
Code 800700Cl
Source WshShell.EXEC

I received a replacement disk and I haven't been able to get that one to run either. When I try to open the first disk, it stops responding. I haven't been able to open the second one at all.

Is there a way to get the device to read new (yet older version) of software. I don't like Office 2007, which is pre-installed though I haven't activated it.

Thanks!

Hi all,

I am looking for some help..

I have a Fujitsu Siemens laptop which has a built in DVD writer drive.

For the last few months, when I put in DVD disks to install my games, the autoplay does not start the disk up. I open up 'my computer' and the drive is shown with the title of the disk correctly, and it lets me right click and select 'explore'. However, if I try to run the installer from the disk I get the above error message or something similar, i.e. 'D:\ installer is not a valid win32 application'.

Does anyone have any ideas about this. It used to work fine but has not let me install anything for the last few months. Apart from the standard windows updates I have not installed anything new.

Oh, it does still let me play DVD films ok and I can copy files from a DVD disk to the hard drive, it just doesnt let me install games from the disks.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Answer:Laptop DVD drive error 'D:\ is not a valid win32 application'

See if you can do a system restore to before this started happening. If that doesn't work, then if you have a retail XP disk, run a repair install.

I am moving you to Windows XP support.

I can't open my photos or pictures anymore because it keeps saying 'JPG is not a valid win32 application'. It never used to do this so I'm sure I've done something wrong. I believe it could have something to do with a Virus as my Avast Pro when into "no tamper mode" and it took me 2 days to delete and reinstall it!
First my Desktop Icons and Wallpaper went to blank screen (grey Background is selected) then I did a System Restore and lost only the Desktop Wallpaper Pic without touching anything "usually I think whilst in word" several times At the same time I discovered that my jpeg and jpg files in Win Pictures will not open Says:

Error bild004.jpg is not a Windows 32 Application
I also think that QuickTime is doing something. As a "file re association" or re-associate with QuickTime request box popped up and I clicked yes without realising it and that was when the Desctop Wallpaper went I dont even use QuickTime do I have to have it installed?
can you help please

Answer:[SOLVED] Error bild0043.JPG is not a valid win32 application

Quick Time is attached to iTunes when you download iTunes, you have to download Quick Time also. To change back your pictures to the default program, Right click any .jpg file/Properties/Change button, scroll through the programs and choose which one you want to open the picture with. Default is Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. Make sure the check box for Always use this program to open this type of file is Checked. Click Apply and OK. You may need to do this for .JPEG files too.
You do not need Quick Time unless you are viewing .mov files. To uninstall Quick Time, go to Start/Run and type appwiz.cpl and press enter. In the Add Remove Programs, highlight QuickTime and choose Uninstall.

Seemingly a DLL problem ... Win 7 Pro 64-bitI get this error message when in Devices|Printers I click on default printer and seek info on "See What's Printing Now"   C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe is not a valid Win32 application   I get the same message when accessing some other parts of Win 7 (e.g. change screen saver), and even though this has been going on for several months I do NOT get a DLL error message in applications; printer does work; and while this is occasionally an annoyance it does NOT seem to be getting worse and so I have ignored it. I do not recall installing any particular software immediately before noticing the DLL error message, however since I only get the error rarely (as I do not want to check what is printing, or change screen saver, or the few other things that give an error) it is possible that some software installation "created" the problem. What is your advice?=========== some other details ==========I've done some reading on DLL problems and while I am pretty comfortable around computers, from reading there are some dire warnings about DLL download file websites as well as the free system scans and etc. Hence it seems that by intervening I might make matters worse, or at least consume a bunch of time "fixing" the problem as well as the likely need to re-install various applications. I have a new desktop computer now and used an external hard drive to transfer some program setup files. I scanned them first with Zone Alarm and as all seemed safe I loaded them all in. Now, when I try to access my C: drive through My Computer I get the message C:|resycled\boot.com.au is not a valid Win32 application. However, I can access the drive by right clicking and selecting explore. I'm assuming as the computer is brand new that I transferred a bug over either on my external hard drive or in one of the setup files. I'm unsure how to go about fixing this problem. The laptop I can re-format, but I'd like to get the desktop cleaned up.This may be information overkill but I installed;Mailwasher, DVDFAB 5.0.6.0, MediaMonkey, Itunes, Comic Collector, DazStudio and Microsoft Office 2007. All of the files except Office were installed from setup files I had saved to the external hard drive when I first downloaded them. I have not installed any of My Documents yet, but I did transfer all my music files over.I attempted the Kaspersky scan but it said it was unable to complete as it couldn't update. I'm not sure if that is connected to the issue or if I configured my internet settin... Read more

Hi there, good folk of Bleeping Computer  :-)  PC, Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit.  I have chosen NOT to install the Windows Updates - this may/may not be relevant.  Malwarebytes Free, Avira Pro. I first noticed there might be a problem when I was attempting to download regular definition Updates for Malwarebytes.  The download could never quite complete - it froze up 3/4 of the way through.  Same result after several attempts. I also noticed the internet was running very slowly (and normally it's pretty quick).  Another change in behavior. I uninstalled Malwarebytes using Control Panel.  I also downloaded the mbam-cleaner file from the MB site.  BUT I was unable to open this mbam-cleaner file beyond the Run window (which I clicked), only to get the error message "mbam-cleaner.exe is not a valid Win32 application". Same result when I tried to run rkill - same equivalent error message: "rkill.exe is not a valid Win32 application". Definitly something is awry.  These are very likely to be good files, and something is choosing to block their opening.  I've never seen this error message before.  I have made no changes whatsoever to my registry or startup - nothing at all. Otherwise the computer still appears to be running as it should.  I am writing to you from my laptop. Any wisdom very much appreciated. All warmest wishes,Ralph

I need to install eclipse classic by Monday. I installed it about a month ago with no problems but didnt use it for a while.

On Friday I clicked on its icon and it wasnt working, I wish id taken note of what it said but I think it was something to do with not being able to access a file.

Its probably worth mentioning that you cant actually uninstall eclipse. Theres no uninstall option so you have to search for eclipse and then just delete all the files you get.

I downloaded it from the website(http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/) again. It comes in a zip file. I unzipped it and I was pretty sure that it looked different already. The eclipse.exe file had the eclipse icon as its image the first time I tried to install it (or atleast im pretty sure it did) and now its that white square with a blue frame thing (looks kinda like a 2D oven). I click on it. It asks me if I want to extract all or run. I have taken both options and they both lead to the same conclusion; a message saying "blah/blah/blah/elipse.exe" is not a valid win32 application.

I have tried to deal with it in the following ways:
I downloaded the windows 64 bit version. This led to the same result.
I searched for eclipse and deleted everything that came up. Then I downloaded it again and repeated the process. This led to the same result.
I scanned for virusess with spybot, norton and avast and got none.
I defragmented the disk on the advice of the internet.
I found this page http://support.mozilla.com/... Read more

First, thanks for reading this. I did read and attempt to go through the steps listed in the Malware Removal Guide. However, although I could download the file for CCleaner, I could not make it run.

I have a new (I've had it for less than a month) HP laptop running Windows 7. I somehow acquired a Trojan, despite having Norton AntiVirus running on my system. I downloaded a few set-up files for programs such as HijackThis and Cleaner7, but I cannot run any of them. I get the "is not a valid Win32 application error" when trying to to do.

I restored my laptop to the original factory settings, but that didn't help. Because I did this, I lost the name of the evil program (I had searched Google for it)... the name sounded something like "animal", and it pretended to find threats on my computer in order to get me to pay for "removal" of them. I tried to remove it in my control panel but of course that didn't work. I thought that since it didn't show up in Programs when I restored it was gone, but I could tell my computer was still infected.

Then you need to work your way through the below

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

I recently had a new computer built for me. When I tried to load a new game "F.E.A.R." using the DVD, I received the error message D:\not a valid Win32 application. When I replaced the game with the CD-ROM version I was able to load the game no problem. I can use the drive to burn CDs, DVDs, watch movies, etc. Last night I loaded a game disk on my virtual E: drive using Daemon Tools. When I tried to load the game onto my computer I received the same error message E:\not a valid Win32 application. I have no clue as to what is going on.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

HI everybody I've run a search looking for previous posting of this probelm and couldn't find anything that matched the error message I've been getting, if it has been questioned before I'm sorry

Anyways, whats been happening is when I try to open anything in my Control Panel it get the error message "C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe is not a valid Win32 application".

When I attempt to run msconfig, I receive the error message "msconfig is not a valid Win32 application" I am running XP Home Edition with all updates.

Regedit runs fine. Norton Anti-Virus scan does not reveal any infections. The last program I remember installing before the problem occurred is iStealth from XIRV Software. I am unsure if it related.

I have been unable to find any help in the Microsoft knowledge basis or from a Google search. I am at a loss and would appreciate help.

try spybot and or adaware. and try again. if that doesnt work, use highjackthis (http://www.allsecpros.com/download/hijackthis.zip). it works better than msconfig anyway.

Hi,

I have a problem that was being dealt with in the Windows XP forum. I included a hijack this log and I was advised to create a post here so someone could help with the log. Here is a copy of my original post:

Hi

I am having some problems witha PC on a small network of 20 PC's. Some of the applications (mainly educational) will not run and give the error ###.exe is not a valid win 32 application. Other PCs on the network run the software fine
All the PC's have the same hardware and software build and are on XP SP1

I have tried copying the autoexec.nt and and config.nt from the windows/repair folder into windows/system32. I have also copied these files from one of the PC's that works ok into the system32 folder on the problem machine.

I have tried the applications in compatibility mode for 98 and 95. Still get the same error.

Can anyone help a frustrated technician

I have also tried the Peper fix as detailed in a previous post and have run Hijack this. Here is the log file:

Answer:Re. "exe is not a valid win32 application" error

I don't see anything strange here.

Let's use a program to scan for any trojans that may exist. Download TDS-3. Learn how to use it here. Make sure to update it after you installed it. You can get the manual updates here. When you launch the program, it will scan your memory for running processes. This will take less than 30 seconds. Next go to System Testing on the menu and choose Full System Scan. After that's finished, post the log file by selecting everything on the top pane (select from bottom to top). If any alarms are found, it will be listed in the bottom window. Please copy and paste that here also if it applies.

Win 7 Home Premium, new HP laptop, 32 bit, Pentium Dual Core

Installing applications, including ones that say they are Win 7 compatible, I get "not valid win32 application". Letting the system adjust compatibility does no good.

I got Visual Studio 2005 installed with a banner at the end about "compatibility issues", and then got that error on all attempts to update. I've erased that and have ordered VS2010. Instrument drivers that a client will need also give me that error, even though they are supposed to be good for Win 7.

This is my first Win 7 machine, have stayed with Win XP Pro up to now. My client is going to need Win 7. I hate to force him to go back to Win XP mode.

Will I have to upgrade to Win 7 Pro and run in XP mode? Or is there a way to make "compatibility mode" really do something useful?

So....Im not quite sure how to get rid of the virus that is causing this not a valid win32 app since it wont allow me to open and antivirus programs.
Probably infected other computer I am working on unknowingly...I have tried CCleaner and superantispyware but get the same not a valid....
did scandefrag, nothing obviously wrong in the JHJT log...
I download everything from reputable sites.
I know I haad that invalid win32 thing before and then downloaded superantispy and did some tweaks of the command prompt and SASW found a worm.
The sucky thing is we both have dialup, so I am trying to avoid having to wait hours upon hours for stuff to download and then not work because of the win32thing.

The subject title really say's it all. I have gotten this message several times when trying to run certain new applications. For instance, my Canon creative home and printer Cd just won't run. I alway's get error's when I start it up. I was able to go to Canon's home page and dload the driver I needed to run my printer, but I have no access to any of the Printing Progam's like American Greeting's and Crayola and all of that. My Canon application is just one example. This error has also occured when trying to run certain game's and other applications. If auto run does kick in half way through dload from disc it will say, "This file is corrupt or missing" It goes on to say " "This program has performed an illegal" etc..

My question is two fold. An possible explaination for this would be great and a cure to the problem would be awesome! If it is a dll file I need please let me know. I've alway's found the answer's to my computer problem's via this board and am alway's appreciative. Not once has the advice been wrong. Thanks in advance for the help. As alway's a clear step by step procedure is the best way to go with me in telling me what I may need to do. Yes I do have an updated virus scan so any dloads for dll's will be scanned for potential viruses. Thanks again! Mark

Answer:D:/ is not a valid win32 application.. HELP!

Do you have access to another PC you can try the CD on? Most of the time that error indicates one of two things. Either the CD is bad or your CD drive is an older drive. If the CD does the same thing in another PC then it's the CD. If it does not, then it's more than likely your CD rom drive.

Hi all, I have a Pentium IV 524 (3.06 GHz 1M L2 533FSB) NEC Powermate ML7 Q8200; with XP Home Edition.

For a little while I have been getting the message "cmd.com is not a valid win32 application" on start-up. You just have to ok that message and then it proceeds fairly normally. One thing it does do is overheat? i.e. it seems to be working extra hard (right from boot-up) and eventually seises up. To this end I installed a 1Gig RAM card the other day (it now has 1.5 Gig). That helped a bit but of course the message still comes up.

I googled the message and from this site learned that it is indicative of a virus. It instructed me to locate the cmd.com file in the System 32 folder and delete it. I found 4 cmd type files in the folder. I right-click/Properties the 4 files: 3 seemed legitimate and had no mention of the dot-com. They were all 'Application' or 'application extension' type files with the description in black print. One seemed suspect; it was called cmd; type was MS DOS Application, print in blue, had a size of zero and right-click/properties showed -under program- that it had a cmd line: C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.com. I thought that this must be it and so removed the file to the trash.

After that the computer functioned very slowly. The Windows Task Manager/Processes showed that the were only about 20 processes running instead of the usual 50 or so (approx). I tried rebooting it to no avail. So I reinstalled the cmd file from the tras... Read more

I did some searching before I posted this problem but I couldn't find a solution that helps.

Everytime I try to install a program be it Itunes, the redistrubution package of the .Net framework, etc. I always get the error "xxxx.exe is not a valid win32 application."

I've read that a virus named Pretty Park could be responsible, yet it doesn't show up in my registry.

I'm utterly confused as to what to do.

Answer:Everything is not a valid Win32 Application

Your issue is caused by one of the following:
1. File is corrupt, bad, or missing.
2. File is not designed for your version of Windows.
3. File is a virus, worm, or other malware file.
4. Hardware incompatibility.

WinXP Pro laptop boots and runs OK in Safe mode, but in normal boot there are no desktop icons or Start menu present. Hi Phil ,let's do this first Since you have a desktop without icons, first of all, do below Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Alt + Del) and go to File >> New Task (Run...) >> type explorer.exe >> EnterThen, do a search for your explorer.exe via your search function..You may find the copy of explorer.exe via either of below locations..C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386\explorer.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache\explorer.exeJust choose either one of them and copy/paste it to C:\WINDOWS folder

Uh, ok so I recently installed Ubuntu on a second Hard disk, and found I was running out of space rapidly, so I went and got my old laptop that threatened to blow up whenever I turned it on, took the HDD out of there and bought an adaptor so I could connect it via USB. a few weeks after I was doing a clean out of my windows drive and accidentally deleted some important files, like NTDLR. Eventually I find my install CD and copy NTDLR from that. before this only one program or two would get the error, although I'm not sure seeing as I never really ran programs from that drive. this morning I tried installing World of Warcraft again, and got the dreaded error while running the installer:

E:\World of Warcraft install\InstallWoW.exe is not a valid Win32 application.

so after that, I used the latest install DVD for it, taking advantage of my USB connectivity by using my Dad's computer, seeing as mine is very old and has no DVD drive. (World of Warcraft is more of an extract rather than an install, it places no files in Windows or Common files or anywhere, really.) so it finished installing alright. Then I go and plug the drive back into my computer, try to run Launcher.exe and...

E:\World of Warcraft\Launcher.exe is not a valid Win32 application.

then when I try the direct run, the program the launcher turns to after it shows you a news screen, WoW.exe

E:\World of Warcraft\WoW.exe is not a valid Win32 application

I also get this error for any programs I try to run... Read more

I can download work files, but when I try to open them, I get this message:c:\users\name\documents\company name\reports\filename.CSV is not a valid WIN32 application

Answer:CSV is not a valid WIN32 application??

Not surprising since that is usually an export file that then needs to be imported to something like Excel. What program is this exported from?

I have windows 7 64 bit and i dled and installed windows debugging tool from here Windows Software Development Kit (SDK) for Windows 8
i'm aware it's for windows 8 but a thread on this forum directed me to it for windows 7 so.. idk. and i couldn't find w7 versions

after installed, i tried to open a .dmp file from C:\windows\minidump but i got this error

did i install the right one? i'm having such a hard time opening these files just to find how why i've been bsoding so much recently ><

Answer:%1 is not a valid Win32 application.

using the debugger isn't really all that easy.
Just to start from the beginning have you set up the symbol library for it?
Use the Microsoft Symbol Server to obtain debug symbol files

It would probably be easier to just upload a couple of dumps here and let someone with it all set up already do it. As you'll also need to know several of the console commands in the debugger to actually get any useful information out of it.
Also, make sure you are opening a crash dump, and not opening an application with the debugger.

I know just the very basics about computers, and don't understand what most forums are talking about. I have been searching for the fix to this problem for a while, but can't seem to figure anything out. First off my computer is a HP pavilion g6 and is only 3 months old. It's running windows 7 64 bit. I haven't had any problem with it whatsoever until today when I tried to get a excel document from online and when I tried to open the file it said "...not a valid Win32 application". I realized that this is happening with every Microsoft office program. I've already tried repairing Microsoft office which did nothing, and since then have seen many forums say use hijack this. I downloaded that and ran in, but it said I was denied write access to host files, and to edit the host file or run as administrator. Since the run as administrator option was not there I tried to edit the host file, however the line it said to delete was not in the host file. I have no idea what to do, any help would be much appreciated.

Answer:not a valid Win32 application

When you ran MGTools.exe, did you get any error messages? Did you fail to agree to the user license for HJT?
If you did get an error message, see this: Using MGtools

Let's also do this:

Open notepad and copy and paste the following text in the quote box into the window:

sc stop srosa
sc delete srosaClick to expand...

Save this as fix.bat
Choose to save as all files.
Doubleclick fix.bat and let the program run.
A small black dos window will flash, this is normal.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA\0000]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA\0000]

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file.

Answer:Not a valid Win32 application

Check the file size it's probably less than 10k, it should be almost 1meg.

Try again at the website, this time by right clicking the download link and Save Target As.

I've emailed the author and asked if he could make a zip version available at his site. Sometimes Executables get chewed up travelling around the net.

If it's still a problem and you have XPSP2 then you might have to list drivershaven as a trusted site in IE security.

Hi,

I really need help.

I seem to have become infected with some kind of virus that is slowing the system right down and has blocked pretty much all of my anti-virus and malware software.
If I try and run these programs I get the message "xxx.exe is not a valid win32 application".

I read the "this topic" above and followed everything, however

> dss.exe didn't seem to run correctly, it gave me the ".. I will inform you when I am finished" message, I clicked ok and it was gone
and then after a few seconds the system froze, including mouse. This released after a few seconds and nothing else happened. I tried
a few times.

My daughter woke up with an unexpected icon for a Windows Police Pro and almost all of her programs including her Avast Antivirus give her the error "not a valid win32 application" We tried deleting the file, but it came back. We cannot run Hijack this verision on her computer.

Answer:not a valid win32 application

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Let's see if we can get some info so that we can determine which system file has been corrupted. That way we can try to replace it.

Download and save the below to your PC (save it anywhere you can find it. The Desktop is fine). Then double click on it to run it.

AVPFind.bat

It should take a couple minutes to run. You will see a black command prompt window while it is running and it should close when it is finished. Once it finishes, attach the c:\avplog.txt
Now download and Run exeHelper

Please download exeHelper to your desktop.
Double-click on exeHelper.com to run the fix.
A black window should pop up, press any key to close once the fix is completed.
Post the contents of log.txt (Will be created in the directory where you ran exeHelper.com)
Note: If the window shows a message that says "Error deleting file", please re-run the program before posting a log - and post the two logs together (they will both be in the one file)
Next, try running the below online scan:

http://www.superantispyware.com/onlinescan.html

Reboot immediately after scanning if it finds and removes anything. Let me know if anything was found. See if you can save a log with it and attach it in the next reply.

Now run a scan with MGtools and attach the log. Using MGtools

Next post please attach:

c:\avplog.txt
log.txt (from exeHelper)
SAS log (if you can)
New MGlogs.zip

My machine locks up when the screensaver goes on (it's an old one with the two animated guys from Guinness, who go "Drink beer straight from the bottle?! BRILLIANT!" - the screensaver, not the computer). So I restarted it. I've had to do this a few times over the past few days. So today I tried to open Firefox, and it didn't work. I tried to open anything, GOMplayer, Winamp, none of the shortcuts would work, they all came back with an error message saying they're not valid Win32 applications. I tried typing in Firefox.exe into the Run prompt on Task Manager, but that had the same result. Finally, I typed a URL into the run prompt, and it brought up Firefox. I downloaded Avira, but when I tried to install it, the error message popped up that it's not a valid Win32 application.

Interestingly enough, I the path to a JPEG saved on my computer into the Task Manager just like I did with the URL, and it opened right up in Windows Picture And Fax Viewer. Video files bring up WinAmp, and spreadsheets bring up Excel, and yes, these I have all these set as the default programs for these types of files. So programs themselves will run, but I can't start them myself, for some reason. How can I fix this?

Answer:Nothing will run, nothing's a valid Win32 application.

Try a System Restore.

Whether that fixes it or not, read the following and post anew in the Spyware section; http://www.techsupportforum.com/f50/...lp-305963.html to get cleaned out.

I am trying to install a program and the setup file won't run. I get a message that says "Setup.exe is not a valid WIn32 application."

I've scanned it and it contains no viruses and I'm not sure why it won't run. Does anyone have any ideas?

Answer:a non-valid Win32 application

It may be damaged or it's possible that the file is not really "setup.exe" but something else that was accidentally renamed. Where did you get it from? Go back to the source (to the CD, web site, or wherever) and grab it again.

Hi guys I need some help trying to figure out whats wrong with my PC. As of now every time I start up I'm getting this dialog pop up box which says " Application cannot be executed. The file divxupdate.exe is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus software now?" I was also getting a pop up ever time I tried to open up certain programs stating something along the lines of blah blah "mhotkey.com is not a valid win32 application" Its preventing me from running housecall as well.

Also when I open up Hijackthis it comes up with a dialog box saying

"For some reason your system denied write access to the hosts file. If you hijacked domains are in this file, HijackThis may NOT be able to fix this
If that happens, you need to edit the file yourself. To do this, click Start, Run Type notepad C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts and press Enter. Find the line(s) HijackThis report and delete them. Save the file as 'hosts.' (with quotes), and reboot. For Vista: simply, exit Hijackthis, right click on the HijacThis icon, choose 'Run as administrator'."

But when I attempt to right click on Hijack This there is not run as administrator option like there usually is for other programs???

I already attempted to use ccleaner and cleaned my registry along with my files even though I probably shouldn't have.

If anyone has any idea please let me know thanks!

Trying to download Burger Island 2 from msngames.com, who I never have problems with. At first my virus protection AND my computer were stopping me from launching it. I threw it on the safe list on my virus protection, I have made sure I have all the Windows Updates and have cleared my temporary files. Still no joy. When I go to play the game, I get that the file is not a valid Win32 application. Any tips?

Answer:Not a valid Win32 application

Well, judging by your "OS:" field, under your profile; it says you have a x64-bit OS, meaning you can't run a x32-bit program file, so the alternative is to find a x64-bit installer of your video game.

Could you give me the link to where you're downloading your video game from (not msngames.com, but the actually link to where you're clicking "download" and it shows you the download dialog) this would help me find it for you and it would save you time.

Answer:JPG is not a valid win32 application...how can I fix this?

a *.jpg file opening gives a not vallid file error

solution to this is that the link in windows informs windows to open *.jpg with a program that is not correct win32 openable .

2 possible common causes.
the link is wrong
the file is wrong
for instance if you have extentions hidden , something could be displayed as namehere.jpg
what you wouldnt see is namehere.jpg.scr
and that would be a virus , but mostly people are warned enough about those nasty things so they have virus protection , and if that would have been the case your virus scanner would of had a busy day :)

so picking the first possible cause , the wrong link
easy enough you can right click on the jpg file and you can then select " open with " rollout menu to the side then the option open with if im correct wich causes a dialogbox to pop up informing you of a list of all the software programs currenly active installed in windows.

jpg file i would prefer to open with something that always works and normally present in windows either windows imaging ( wich is in the list ) or MS paint . both should work .
later on when you have the hang of this you can obviously change it to photoshop ect ect.

hope this helps .

Hey, i have a very annoying problem and i hope you could help me!

Since yesterday, everything i download and try to open is "not a valid win32 application", while all archives i try to open are "either in unknown format or damaged"(archives that i download), and every torrent i download is not a valid torrent file!

i can open everything except the files i downloaded yesterday and today.

i read about a bagle, or beagle or something like that. i was thinking it might be it, or just another stupid bug

i'm using 32 bit vista home premium 6 build 6001

the files i tried to open are definitely not corrupted! i tried to download vuze, a new version of msn, about 20 different torrents and so on. nothing works.

also another thing i noticed, is that sometimes firefox stops at 3 kb/s or 2 kb/s and just freezes the download. i wonder if it's related?

thanks!

This is my first post so I'm likely to appear stupid. I'm of average computer competence but love the things. Short story is this:

I have an accounting program in which I have data files for each year of my business. These have been successfully backed up for years on CD and now JumpDrive, and stored on the desktop with a shortcut for easy access.

I downloaded and installed SP2. Now when trying to open a file, I get the message C:\XXX\XXX\XXX is not a valid Win32 application. It always was before so what changed?

I cannot back up my current files because that is the name I've always used. The computer doesn't recognize the name as valid so I have no security.

An ancillary problem is that years ago, my adorable husband somehow associated my old data file to be opened with MusicMatch. (We don't even discuss this.) I managed a workaround so that I got the files to open with their program application even though I could never change the icon from MusciMatch. No harm no foul. No longer. Post SP2, the danged thing went back to opening MusicMatch, ignoring my old workaround. Messing with it for hours got it to where I'm now getting the invalid file messagel

Can anyone help me? These files are serious stuff to me.

(See, I do appear stupid. ) Forgot: I'm a Dell 2650 Inspiron, XP, 512 ram.

Answer:What Is a Valid Win32 application?

If you could clarify a bit?

"Now when trying to open a file, I get the message C:\XXX\XXX\XXX is not a valid Win32 application"
How are you trying to open this file?
Double clicking on it?
Clicking on a shortcut?
If you use Start > Programs does C:\XXX\XXX\XXX run, or still give the error?
(BTW, this IS your accounting program?)

"I cannot back up my current files because that is the name I've always used. The computer doesn't recognize the name as valid so I have no security. "

What name? Or do you mean C"\xxx\xxx\xxx??
No security? Meaning, no backup??

Re: Your old data file. From Explorer or My Computer, select one of these files, right mouse, open with and with from the list or the browse button, select the program that should be use, select the Always Use and OK your way out.

Hello,
I have just downloaded 2 .ISO files from my university's website so that I can use a program at home. I also had to download a batch file to combine the two. This was performed with no problem.
The instructions on the uni website say to mount the combined ISO on a virtual drive, or burn it to media.
I have mounted it on a virtual drive, but when I try to run the program, I get the above error message.

The strange thing is is that I can see inside the 'disc', so can navigate all the way through. I know I'm running 64 bit, but the ISO provides both 32 and 64 bit versions of the software, and both produce the same message (except with the path of the .exe file added on to the E:\ drive. )
I would like to get this software up and running in the next couple of days, but my computer is not letting me!

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated,
Many thanks,
Tom.

Answer:E:\ is not a valid WIN32 application

Are you able to copy the software directly from the virtual disc onto a folder on your local drive and run it from there?

What program is this? There may be related issues that I can delve into material for that may pertain to this.

Also, if you want, you can do a Procmon log of the error. Run Procmon, then attempt to run the program, then when the error message is displayed click the Capture (magnifying glass) button on Procmon and then save it as a file (select "All Events" option) and zip it up and send it over. Also notify me of the name of the .exe so I can identify it in the log (since they can get pretty large).

For a long time, through several computer upgrades (new machines), if I clicked on a saved htm file, which I created in FrontPage 2002, the file would open in FrontPage and life was good.

Sometime over the first chunk of this year, 2010, something happened to modify this.

When I click on the same files now (in fact, ANY htm file), I get the error message " is not a valid Win32 application." Also, the file type has changed to being a Firefox Document. I'm pretty sure that the type was listed as something else previously.

My guess is that I somehow changed the default (or should be defaults?). I've asked around a bit and followed some simple advice to change this back and none of it has worked. I just want to be able to click on the file and have it open in FrontPage as it did before (...WITHOUT having to always use the "Open with...). And have the type changed back to whatever it was.

I am running XP Pro on a Dell Inspiron that is a little over a year old, that has not given me any problems since I first set it up. I run ESET NOD 32 Antivirus. I'm an intermediate level user, meaning I don't mess around with the registry. That is to say: If a tweak is needed to do what I need to have done that requires hands-on registry work, please give me exact instructions so I don't do irreparable harm.

So what has happened, did I likely do something to cause this, and what's the fix?

Thanks in advance for all rep... Read more

Answer:is not a valid Win32 application.

A few things to try:First make sure you're downloading the correct version for your OS. Their 32 and 64 bit version downloads may be different.Try downloading again, maybe from a mirror site, if available.See if it'll install in safe mode.

Hi, ok first off all im swedish so i dont know very much english.
Ok, so I'm coding in a program called "Pawno" (a pawn editor)
Pawno is used for GTA San andreas multiplayer, Called SA-MP.
When i try to open a script with Pawno it just says: C:\Dockuments And Settings/Oscar/My documents/script/LARP.pwn is not a valid Win32 application (.pwn is in association with Pawno) And same goes when i try to compile a script (from .pwn to .amx)
The thing is, I can open Pawno and from Pawno open the .pwn file, but cant open the .pwn file first.
When i take another GTA san andreas script program and compiles it says:
>%l is not a valid Win32 application.
And at last pawno uses a separate compiler named pawncc.exe, wich exists in my pawno folder.

Anyone please help!

Answer:is not a valid Win32 application

XP does not recognize "Pawno" as a valid Win32 Application. You can open files from within Pawno, but you cannot launch Pawno by double-clicking an associated file.

This sounds like normal behavior for XP. Meaning that if there is a problem, the problem is with Pawno and not XP.

Do you know of anyone else that is able to launch Pawno by double-clicking on an associated file ? If not, I would think the issue would be best addressed to the manufacturer/author of Pawno, and the defect may lie there.

However, in general, uninstalling and then reinstalling applications frequently fixes a lot of problems.

I have recently been unable to open .pps attachments received via email in outlook express. I have Power Point 3; Power Point Viewer; and Open Office. Non of these will open the .pps email files.

The error message I get is -

"C:\Documents and settings\deanewing\local settings\temporary internet files\content.ie5\NFPJ3PKS\nov2005.pps is not a valid Win32 application."

Answer:not a valid Win32 application

Hello and Welcome to TSF

You may try this

Open a new presentation.
Go to Insert -> Slides From Files.
Click on Browse and search for your .pps file.
Click on the .pps file which you could not open, and then click OK.
Click on Insert All, and then close the Slide Finder.
All the slides belonging to that .pps file should now be visible in this new presentation.
