Monitor Power button flashes

Question: Monitor Power button flashes

I don't know if this is the right place but I couldn't find a place for monitor help, and I have. Win vista so I decided to post here,.so my monitor is Samsung and the problem is the power button flashes on and off and I know the visual cables aren't the problem, usually when I just plug the monitor in (just the power cable) it says "no signal.found" which I guess means the
Vgi and the dvi cables arent connected but this time I get black screen and power button blinks.

Hi I recently upgraded my Desktop PC to Windows 10 and a few days later when powering up the machine, the power light began flashing and apart from being able to hear the HDD spin and the fan in operation, nothing else happens. No signal reaches my monitor ( by HDMI or standard video connection ). The flashing power light is instantaneous. I have tried resetting the BIOS in the standard fashion to no avail. I have removed the HDD and it works in another PC ( boots into Windows 10 ) Any suggestions? because other wise I fear I am left with a useless metal box!

I.I have an lenovo y50-70 that i like very much. The only problem i have with it, is that if i play forex gta v, or doing other things that makes the computer work hard, the power button starts to flash and it is stopping to charge. It happens all from about 5min to 30min after i have started to play. If i pull the plug and put in in again, it does not flash anymore, and i can play for a while before it starts to do that again. Noticed that the plug i put into the computer to charge it, gets very warm. This problem does not come if i just use the computer for surfing on the internet, watching netflix or similar, only if the computer has to work hard. Is it the charger that can't deliver enough power to charge it or what could my problem be?What does the power button flash mean? Thanks!

im new to this situation and my first encounter sorry for being noob my laptop power button flashes orange while i am charging and the lid was close. any idea what happen to my laptop?

Answer:Laptop power button flashes orange?

The flashing orange light usually means that the battery is being charged from the mains-powered charger unit.
When battery is charged fully that light should change to green

Laptop makes may differ though .. for example when my laptop is charging the orange light is on, but it does not flash .. it stays on orange until it is fully charged, then changes to green

Hi,
I have a Precision Tower 7910 desktop. Every time I try to restart (or power off and on), the power button starts flashing an orange colour. Following suggestions from previous posts, I took the CMOS battery, and held the power button for 15 seconds. When I insert the battery the computer works perfectly until the next restart where I have to repeat to same procedure. The computer works fine even if I leave it on for a month (assuming no restarts).
Can anyone suggest any solutions?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:Power button flashes orange every time I restart

Most of the Precision Tower documents state this =

I have a T510 that is acting really strange. The laptop will do the following once shut down for any extended period of time. When I open it up and press the power button the power button, keyboard light , hdd light will all flash. 5 seconds or so will pass and then it will do the same thing, never actually booting up. I'll pull the power and batteries and repeat the process and the thing will do the same thing. Eventually it will boot if I repeat the steps enough. This just started happening recently. It will run fine once the system actually turns on. I have updated all drivers, I have updated the BIOS and all other software. I am highly doubting this is a windows issue as it never even POSTs. The flashing lights almost act like an error code but I couldn't find anything regarding 1 quick slow flash by the power button. Any suggestions?

Answer:T510 boot issues - power button flashes

Hi Kur1j,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with no POST on your ThinkPad T510.

I think this could be issue with system board, have you checked performing power drain?

If you have not performed, then please follow the steps, remove AC adapter and the battery from the system. Press and hold power button for 15 to 20 seconds and release. Perform this steps 2 to 3 times and after that connect only AC adapter and try switching ON the system.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

I have a T450S that is a few months old. It has worked fine until just the other day when it would not turn on. When I push the power button, the green LED flashes three times. Then, the LEDs on the F1, F4, and Fn keys come on for several seconds and go off. Here's what I've tried:- Charging for an extended period.- Removing the battery for an extended period.- Removing the battery and holding the power button for 60 seconds.- Pressing the button in the emergency reset hole. Nothing has made any difference. Any ideas?

Hello,

I own a Equium L20-197 and it is currently having a power problem. It is failing to turn on at all. When the plug is in the machine the orange power light comes on to show that there is a power supply yet when I hit the power on button the buttons just flash and nothing happens.

If I hit it again all the lights go out and the whole system fails.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks,
alan

Answer:Equium L20-197 fails to turn on at all - power button flashes and nothing happens

Hi

Did you set this notebook to standby mode or hibernation mode???

Reading this description it looks like the notebook was set into one of these modes and cannot wake up.
Try to remove the battery from the notebook and disconnect the AC adapter.
Wait several times (~ 20min) and connect the battery and AC adaptor again.
Then try to power up the notebook again.

If it will be not able to start the notebook I presume the power supply electronic on the motherboard malfunctions.
In this case the contacting of service technicians would be advisable.

I normally go to bed and leave my laptop running with a YouTube playlist playing for background noise to help me sleep. I've been doing this for about three years. I usually wake up the laptop in sleep mode or still playing the playlist but with the screen black. Today, though, I woke up to the laptop totally powered down and unresponsive. I checked the power cord and it was plugged in on both ends, but it acted like it was basically dead. Any push of the power button causes the button to turn on like normal, but it turns off after just a few seconds. Trying this several times, occasionally the keyboard lights will flash, too, but they die after just a second. The whole thing looks like it's booting up, but can't even turn the screen on at all. I'll link to a YouTube video showing the problem. A few months back, I was having harddrive problems from what I could tell, but fixed it. I haven't had any other problems other than that. Link: https://youtu.be/v3y7q2S0GS8 Could the battery have finally crapped out or something? I tried the whole battery removal and hold power button thing a few times with no results.

I am having the exact same issue, but with an added wrinkle being that my PC is plugged into a tv into the hdmi/dvi input, but the tv isn't recognizing the PC. I've tried two other monitors as well, one being a tv and the other being a monitor. I was using the dvi to HDMI cable that I've been using for years now, and nothing has changed having to do with settings of either the pc or the monitors, but now I'm back to just using my pic monitor with a dvi to dvi cable connecting it to the pc tower.I tried the hard reset and everything that I've seen on other threads, but I need specific help with my case here. Now it's turning on for a few seconds, but then it's turning off again and just repeating the process. Any ideas please? :'(

When the power button is pressed on the tower, it flashes it and the computer sounds like it about to start up when the button goes back off and doesn't start-up. Occasionally it works after end on end of pressing the button (sometimes up to 30 minutes) but crashes after 15-40 minutes. What can I do!!

I'm considering buying an all in one PC but I don't know if they're goof for playing games with high detail I.e Simulations. Any views?

We bought around 40 of these X220 I5 before xmas and now more than 20 of them have failed. The company we bought them from tried everything but they ended up switching the mainboard on the first two that failed. We were told it was a batch issue with the serial number R9-HNXXX and now all of those are changed into T420. But today we had the same problem with serial number R9-HXXXX that was bought two weeks earlier and with different config - I7 and SSD. All of them with the same problem that is described in subject. Are there any known batch issues? The problem is not with the tablet version and sorry for posting in the wrong forum. Thx

Hi.

I have a LG TFT monitor from 2009. A fews days it was troublesome in getting a display. I pulled out and reconnected the VGA connector and rebooted. Eventually I got the display back. However now the power light flashes and there's no display.

Last night I left it running and it said something like 'no signal...' with circled circles. I rebooted a spare PC and it was working again. This morn it's back to a flashing power light and no display. Is the monitor finished?

Update: I left it running and connected to my spare PC for over 15 minutes and the display just returned. :confused

Answer:LG monitor power light flashes and no display.

If you can borrow another monitor and VGA cable, I'd hook it to the PC and see what happens.

If the other monitor shows the same problems, it's likely a problem with you PC's video card.

If the other monitor works, try the old one with the different VGA cable.

If neither of these solve them problem, the issue is with the old monitor itself.

I need some help. I have acomputer monitor that is roughly 10 years old. THe monitor last night decided to suddenly turn off and the power button started blinking. I unplugged the power to the monitor and let it sit overnight. This morning I went and plugged the power back into the monitor and pressed the power button on it. When I pressed the power button the button started blinking again. I have never had a monitor die like this and I would like to know why it died and if it can be fixed. Some more info is that i had only been on the computer for less than 2 hours. I have not spilled anything on the computer, the vent is completely uncovered, and the computer is in good working conditions according to the mannual. I need to know asap please. The tower still works perfectly fine it is only the monitor.

Answer:Monitor is black and the power button on the monitor is blinking

If you could try the monitor on another PC, that would confirm the monitor is faulty. In any case if the monitor is bad and considering its age, it would be best to just replace it. It would not be worth fixing.

I tried the power button lock out suggestions: Try the below suggestion: Power Button Lockout is displayed. The monitor's Power Button Lockout function is enabled.Press and hold the Power button for 10 seconds to unlock the Power button function. If the above doesn't work then try a monitor reset.  Unplug the monitor?s power cord and hold down the monitor?s power button for 30-60 seconds. Plug the monitor back in and power it up. But the monitor still won't power off the power button is not in lockout mode.

Hello. I have a 19" KDS Avitron flatscreen monitor that I recently picked up (for free) from a friend. However, there appears to be at least one problem. When I first tried to turn it on, the screen flashed then cut out after 10 seconds or so. When I tried it again, the power button would not pop back out, and is now stuck. The monitor stays on when it is plugged in, and does not shut off (however the colour is off on the screen). Furthermore, I can't adjust any of the settings now that the button is stuck. How do I go about getting the button unstuck, and does this sound like it may fix my problems? Thanks!

Answer:Stuck power button on monitor

I should add that it is a CRT monitor, not an LCD flatscreen. Thanks again.

I have a Gateway desktop with windows XP. When I turn on the pc the monitor goes right into standby before I can see anything. The pc seems to be booting up just like it used to I can hear the fan and even the disc drives if I put a disc in. First I was told it might be the power supply, replaced that still the same thing. Then I was told it might be the video card replaced that and still no change. Oh and the monitor works just fine unhooked it from the pc and got the no signal thing then hooked it up to my laptop and it worked just fine. Any clue what the problem could be??

Answer:monitor goes into standby right when i push the power button on the pc

Are you using onboard graphics or external video card, if your using an external card, make sure the mobo is set to boot off of pci-e or agp or pci whichever slot your graphics card is placed in.
If not and your using onboard, make sure to have it switch to internal graphics.

I can not turn off the monitor at night - please help

Answer:Unlock the power button on monitor - HPL1750

Are you SURE you're pressing the right button ?If it has a plastic button that presses on a switch behind it, it may be stuck inwards in the monitor case - if you un-stick it, pressing it should work fine. If pressing the button doesn't work, remove the AC power to it - unplug it or switch off the power bar it's connected to. Or - if you want to have the monitor on and the computer running all the time, which is NOT a good idea if you don't NEED to do that, and your problem is it's always displaying, RIGHT click on a blank part of your main desktop screen, choose Properties, then click on the Screen Saver tab, then the Power button, and set the monitor to turn off (go black) after a specific amount of time.Your display will come back on automatically when you move your mouse or press a keyboard key.

This is my first post! woot woot.
anyways.. I search the forum, nothing really to my problem

I have Windows Xp and I have two monitors hooked up to the computer. My larger monitor does not work anymore. The screen is mostly always black but the power button stays on... if i play around with it and click the input button i can get the desktop to come up but it flickers and lines goes down the screen and still is unusable--- after about five mins of this, it just turns black anyways

I switch where the monitors connect to the computer, but still the larger monitor does not work. The smaller one still worked fine. Its the monitor itself... well... its not the graphic card in the computer or dust or anything was where i was trying to get at..

I also changed the screen refreshing to 60 hertz, changed the color quality to 16 bit as well as change the screen resolution to the lowest it can go, which is 800 by 600 pixels

I can't think of anything else to do?
Please help..

Thank you.

Been trying to fix this for 2 days now. It's not a physical button but more like a lit touch pad type of thing. You barely tap it to turn on/off. It's stuck on & I have to unplug the monitor to turn it off.
I am wondering if the slight static electricity has fried something? You know like in the winter when you get static on your fingers when you touch certain things? It happened a few weeks ago as well but I fixed it somehow. Can't remember how I did it though. Any suggestions?

I'm having a problem with my computer monitor. It used to be okay but somehow the computer monitor power button is not green now, instead it's yellow, therefore there's nothing on the screen. I checked the power cable and connection to the cpu and it seems alright. I also shut down the computer and monitor and waited for a minute, the computer booted fine but when I turned on the monitor power button, it was green for a few seconds and then turned yellow.

Can somebody tell me what seems to be the problem with my monitor? And how would you suggest to fix it?
Thank you much.

Answer:Computer Monitor Power Button Stays Yellow

Check the cable from the monitor to the video adapter at the back of the case. Then you'll need to try another monitor. If it works the problem is inside the case. Making sure your video card if you have one is secure or trying another one would be next.

With motherboard removed and power supply connected, monitor connected, ram in, CPU in, HD connected and Case Power Connector for front Push-Button "connected" the system acts like it's going to start but nothing shows up on the display and screen shows No Signal.
However, if I unplug the Case Power Connector for Push-button from the motherboard and start the system by shorting the two power pins on the motherboard ....then the system starts normally and the display works.
Does this indicate that I have a bad power connector, bad power button?  How do I solve this problem?  The power button is white when it does not start up.

The power on switch is a replaceable assembly.  Which one depends on Mini Tower or Slim Desktop 620S.

Hi everyone,

My pc just shut down this morning. I had a spare power pack- brand new and I fitted that.

Windows ran perfectly for 10 minutes then the same thing happened again!

I noticed on both occasions, that even after I had removed the extenal power lead, the green power 'on' light kept on flashing on/off.

I have never noticed that before when a power pack 'blew'.

Does anyone think I was unlucky with a 'duff' replacement power pack?

Is the flashing power light indicative of some oother fault?

Any and all help welcome. PLEASE!

Many thanks.

Hi, I have windows home 7, home built pc with Asus motherboard. Don't ask me further spec details cuz I have no idea about most of the specs (an ex built it and can't get in control panel due to monitor issue). I just know that it's supposed to be kick-*** with a 5.8 windows score.

The PC boots fine, gives you the option to start windows normally or leave it do its' thing... but either way I try, it makes no difference to monitor.
When it boots, the monitor shows all the usual details, the bios pic, starting... and as soon as it reaches desktop point (I think), it goes black even though monitor is still powered and no errors about no signal. If I turn monitor off and on, it will quickly show me the desktop then it goes black again.

I'd appreciate any help or insight.

Answer:Monitor black but turning monitor off/on flashes desktop for split second

Hi, first thing I would try is to connect the PC to another monitor that is known to be in good working order. If the same problem occurs then we will know it is a problem with the PC, if it functions normally you will know it is a problem with your monitor.

I have something in my system that puts an unnamed button on my taskbar for about a second then stops. It does this every now and then. When it does, whatever active window I'm on becomes inactive just for that second when it's on. I've done virus and spyware scans and have found nothing.

Hello. Happy New Year!

I have a question. But first, I will make a statement: I have Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate version installed on my computer. The application I most love is OneNote 2007. Boy, is that a handy program! I don't know what Office 2007 packages offer OneNote 2007. I know for a fact that the Standard edition does not. I think, but not sure if the Professional (the step down from Ultimate edition) version does not have OneNote either. If you can swing it $$$, get it with OneNote! it is worth it! It is fairly easy to use and quite intuitive too.

Now my question: Some of the Office 2007 applications that utilize that new ribbon along the top of the program interface will also have the round Office button in the upper left corner. I have noticed at times that the Office button pulsates or flashes (white to yellowish-gold, back and forth) and at other times it does not, just remains white. Why at times does the Office button pulsate or flash? Under what conditions? ...ALL CONDITIONS IT WOULD MAKE IT FLASK OR PULSE PLEASE. What is it trying to tell me? I have looked on the web trying to find an answer to this and I cannot find an answer anywhere. It can get annoying at times, when I am in Word 2007 and it just pulsates or flashes at me while I am writing a long report. ALSO, what are the corrective measures, if they aren't obvious to stop this pulsating or flashing. Thank you!

PS: it is the Satellite M70, and I have changed the RAM

Answer:My Satellite M70 stops working, and caps button flashes

Hi there,

I?m afraid you're going to have to be a bit more specific than that as it is a little vague.....but now that you mention that you have changed the RAM maybe this is related to the issue. Is your RAM suitable speed for your laptop? (Example at 400 or 533MHz, whichever speed is specified for your product). Because if your RAM is at the wrong speed or at a higher speed (such as 667MHz, which happened with me) the computer can crash/blue screen/go crazy.

Actually, now I remember that my CAPS lock button did flash too, because of the wrong RAM or the RAM not inserted properly. I would suggest checking the speed for your RAM and make sure you have inserted the right type, speed of RAM and that you have inserted it in the correct manner

I hope this helps.

Hello,

I have this laptop where all of a sudden it has powered down and won't start back up. All that is happening is the blue power light flashes. I have tried to remove the battery and just go off the adapter. I have tested the adapters as I have two and both appear fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Chris

Just faced a rather strange issue, but not really an issue, just different system behaviour than expected. System:W520 Batteries:55++ connected27++ connected Power adapter:Unplugged No other accessories connected. Scenario:I was using the system till it power itself off due to low power (0% reached for both batteries). i.e. Ungraceful Windows shutdown. Then upon pressing the power on button, the LEDs flashes, no THINKPAD logo or BIOS message appears, system appears to then restart again, and the LEDs flash again...and loops until it was no longer able to even attempt to POST. Expected behaviour:Either display the message that says "Battery level is too low".OrDon't loop (this is the behaviour when only the 55++ battery is connected at 0%) Why does having the 27++ would make the system go through this looping cycle?

Answer:W520, 55++, 27++, unplugged from power adapter, 0% battery. Press Power button --> power up loops.

Hello Chatbox,

I can understand your issue very well, as there is no message comes on the screen which gives you information to plug the power adapter and prevent the laptop to get shut down.

You should install Power Manager software and then customize it as per your requirement.
The software can be download from the mentioned below web link.
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/8mu417ww.exe

Hope, after this laptop will not shut down automatically due to battery backup

Best Regards,

My monitor is set to power off after 20 minutes of inactivity (via Power Options). After moving the mouse to "wake it up" the screen usually flickers on and off several times until it stays on 1-2 seconds and then stays black. After that, I usually hit the monitor power button to turn it off and then on again and it usually repeats the flickering process until I kill it and restart it again. Usually it works by the third time, sometimes not.
After the monitor remains on for about 5 seconds it usually stays on. It's always after "waking it up" that the monitor flickers. It still does it if I physically shut the monitor off after it's done being used. The monitor power always shows it as being on.

Running XP. Dell Monitor P991. Monitor will flash to black, you can barely see the desk top in the back ground. You can see it jump from side to side as if it is trying to center itself on the screen them it will come back on. It will do this about every 3 or 4 seconds. The desktop lacks about a quarter of a inch filling up the screen. Sure could use some advice. Thank You.

Answer:Monitor Flashes off & on

Have you checked the connectors and made sure they are tight?

Also try another monitor to determine if the problem is with the monitor or the graphic interface, which may be a card or on the motherboard.

Question: Flashes on monitor

Hi - every so often, I get a bright white flash across my Iiyama Pro 450 monitor. It's usually so quick that it could be attributed to something catching the light outside and reflecting on the screen, but it seems to be happening more frequently, and is from top to bottom rather than from side to side.It isn't connected with anything in particular I'm doing and I'm hoping someone can tell me it isn't a sign of the 'about to hit the bucket' syndrome...

Answer:Flashes on monitor

It just might be PSU related in combination with your graphics card i.e. the PSU starting to play up.I presume you've checked all the leads and cables for firmness?

HI: As with many people, the LCD hinge on my Y510 broke. After repacing the broken hinge, we found that the laptop would only boot using the NOVO key and not the power button.  (The power button light is on when the unit is booted - it just doesn't work.) As well, if we put the laptop to sleep, nothing happens when you press the power button or the NOVO button. The only thing that we can do is unplug the laptop, pull out the battery and reboot. I took it to a reputable repair place and they could see no damage to any wires in terms of the LCD hinges being replaced. Hibernation seems to work fine - but it takes longer to shut down/boot up than shutting down and cold booting in VISTA. Because Windows VISTA is so slow at booting up, it is such a pain to have to power down all the time. Anyone have any ideas as to what might be going on? (I've considered doing a restore to see if it's software related  - but it seems to be a hardware issue.) Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to offer. Dave

I have a Satellite P200. Recently the problem has arisen that my Internet button pushes itself so multiple Firefox windows start popping up at random intervals. Sometimes it's 2, sometimes it's 30. Needless to say it's quite annoying.

I found where I can customize the buttons and make the Internet button open a different program, but there doesn't seem to be an option to completely disable it. If I "Deregister" the Internet button, then it just goes back to the default function of opening an internet browser when it's pushed.

Is there a way to fully disable these keys?

Thanks!
Jason

Answer:Satellite P200 - Disabling Internet Special Button near Power Button

Hello

I have the same notebook model and disabling option is not known to me. What you can try is to remove ?Button support? utility from Value Added Package.

In Control Panel you will find option ?Programmes and Features?. Click to remove VAP. Usually it should ask you to change the installation and you can choose which part of this package can be deleted, if not remove VAP completely.

Download the latest option from Toshiba download page but when the installations starts choose Custom installation and remove check mark in front of ?Button support? utility.

So at the moment I see this as only possible solution.

Hi,
In reference to the following posting, http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19676126:
I am not the individual who initiated this query but I did have the same issue with my Dell Inspiron 5547, where it wouldn't turn on after a power button shut down.
I followed Hema's instructions by removing the battery and charger and then holding down the power button for a few seconds, and then putting back the parts. It seemed to have done the trick... At least for now. Is this just a temporary fix?
While doing a Google search for a solution I seem to have encountered a number of people who experienced the same issue. Can you also explain why this happens with this particular Dell laptop? Is it a model flaw?
Thank you

Hi every one,
Recently I purchased new PC,
After installing windows XP Pro SP3 I found that there is a missing button in Power option properties. The missing button is (When I press the sleep button on my computer), I can find only (When I press the power button on my computer).
My system configuration is as follow
Mother board Gigabyte EP45-UD3R Rev 1.1
My graphic card is ATI Radeon HD 5670
Windows XP SP3
RAM 4Gb Kingston DDRII
CPU Core 2 Quad 2.66 GHz
It worth saying that I can shutdown, hibernate or put my PC into sleep mode, so the functions are working but only the button is missing.
I will appreciated very much if some can advise me how to restore the missing button. Is there some option in BIOS that will enable this button?
I contacted Gigabyte customer support, but they directed me to Microsoft, I also contacted ATI but they directed me to Microsoft or BIOS settings. In my BIOS I can't find any option that may affect this button. Any advise will be appreciated
Best regards

Answer:[SOLVED] Button of (When I press sleep button) is not available in my Power option pr

Does the case actually have a separate Sleep Button? I suspect it's not even connected, as the motherboard manual doesn't show a connection for a Sleep Button, only a Power Button.
Windows Power Options won't list it, as it doesn't exist.

If you have a Sleep Button on the keyboard, it might not be listed in Power Options either. That would be up to the Driver software to add that option. You may have to use the software that came with the keyboard to configure the sleep button on the keyboard.

I have a Y530 laptop.  It originally came with Windows Vista.  I upgraded it to Windows 7 several months ago.  Lately the laptop will not come on using the power button. I have tried all the suggested remedies -- remove the battery, remove the power cord, hold the power button down for 15 seconds, reinstall the battery, reinstall the power cord.  It still will not come on using the power button. I find that if I press the "One Key" -- the key above the power button, the laptop comes on but goes to the Recovery page.  I tried doing a recovery one time, but was presented with a screen telling me there was an error with some files during the recovery.  I can understand this since I'm sure the recovery partition was designed for Windows Vista and things do not work correctly since the computer is now running Windows 7. The next time I turned the computer on using the "One Key" -- the power button still does not work -- I skipped the recovery and had the computer reboot instead.  The computer booted into Windows 7 and worked fine. This is not the ideal situation when I want to boot the computer.  I do not want to have to go to the recovery screen and reboot from there. Is there any way to get my computer to respond to the power button again? Thank you for your help, Dan Wilkinson

I found a 1.7 ghz p4 motherboard on the cheap to upgrade my old p3 667, and i bought it in "working" condition, but i don't think so. Anyways, i got a pentium 4 support psu hooked up, and some pc-800/8 ram (it takes pc-800, would it work with pc-800/8?), and powered it on, and it just makes some strange beep code, followed by 1-1-1-1 beep code, but it dosen't post or show the bios, just a blank screen. So i reset the bios by taking out the battery for about 8 hours to ensure there was no charge left, and powered it back on, now it does not beep, but the power light just blinks, and still no screen.

Anyways, it is an HP-Vectra VL-800 motherboard
P4 1.7 ghz socket 423
pc-800/8 (takes pc-800 ram, but i think 800/8 works?)
the cpu fan comes on if that is any help.

If it won't power up at all its definitely not a virus but a hardware issue. What happens when you press the power button? Does it make any noises like fans or harddrives spinning up or is it just dead?

I have a 6 year old Dell Dimension 4600 and an Acer AL2002w monitor that as of yesterday worked ok. Yesterday the monitor started flashing slow and would speed up than go black and not come back on. The monitor is working and is still powered on and I get a message that says "No DVI signal check VGA cable". If I power the computer off and than back on it works ok again for about 5 minutes and than starts flashing and goes black again.

Thanks,

Answer:Monitor flashes than shuts off

I would test the old monitor by borrowing/replacing it with a known working monitor. If the borrowed monitor did the same thing you'd have a good idea it was the video card. If it didn't then I'd guess the monitor was having power supply issues.

If you don't have a replacement monitor handy then I'd move the monitor to a known working computer and see if it did the same thing there. If it worked with the new computer then you'd know it was your video card. If it didn't work with the new computer then I'd guess that the monitors power supply was failing.

I am trying to help a friend with her computer.
She uses this mainly for her home business. And it has her files, etc on it.
She knows less than I do, so that's pretty bad. I guess what I'm trying to say, I'm not really tech savvy. My usual MO, is look the problem up on the internet, then follow instructions. (which I did) But I wasn't sucessful in finding this exact problem.

So here's what's going on
This is an older desktop, Dell Optiplex GX280 running Windows XP
It's problem is, when you are using it for any function, the monitor will flash off, stay black for 2 or 3 seconds and then it will come back on. Except when it is in safemode.
Which it is in now, so I can type this.

These are the things I have done so far.
1. Ran Complete Antivirus, including downloading Malwarebytes and running it.
2. Changed monitor, cords included.
3. Downloaded new video drivers. (That helped for a few days, then it went back to doing it again)

Is there anything else I should try? I haven't defragged it, not sure if that would help or not. I'm pretty sure it hasn't been done (if ever).

I would greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks!!

this happened about two hours ago. i went to open a new tab in google chrome then my monitor suddenly turns off while it's getting power. i've tried turning it on and off, restarting my computer and replugging/wiggling the cables but none of it worked. as soon as it turns on, the screen flashes and it turns off. i don't have any extra cables at the moment and i kinda doubt it's my vid card going bad because it was just fine while i played games earlier today.

the monitor was part of a graduation gift which came from cyberpower and i've tried searhing for the model but i couldn't find it. the brand is called Alaska and in the manual they didn't put a website.

does anyone have an idea of what could be wrong and how to fix this? or is it time for a new monitor? i got it around june last year.

as always, thanks for the help.

Hi, I've never used this site before but I came across it in google, when somebody else had a similar question.

The problem started like this. If I switched on the driver, the light of the monitor would light green (like it is supposed to), but then, after roughly three seconds the green light would disappear and the screen would turn off. If I left it for an roughly an hour, I could turn the monitor back on and it would work like a regular monitor, with no problems what so ever.

This was about a year ago, and since then I've moved house, and the problem has risen again. However, it has progressed even further. If I turn on the monitor, it will do the same as before (turn back off), but now it turns on and off and so on. The flashing won't end unless I turn the monitor off myself. No matter how long I leave it (and I have been very patient), it won't resume like normal.

My computer is a HP invent Windows XP. Thanks for reading, can anybody please help me?

Answer:Monitor flashes on and off continuously

you can always try a different monitor & see if that fixes the issue.
it also seems like your video card is going out or your cable connection between monitor & pc is not secured.
simple solution is to try a different monitor with a diff cable for connection. if you have an extra one or u can barow one from a friend jsut for testing.
if the second monitor does the same thing, then it's a pc issue (video Card) which i think it's an integrated card.
if that's the case, you will need to contact HP if the pc under warranty, or buy a new video card
please let me know how this turns out.

I bought a costco monitor a while back. I think it's a 27". It's white if that's any help. Whenever I use Flircloud the entire screen starts flashing. I use two screens. I can have it flashing like crazy on ym HP, but as soon as I drag it to my other monitor, it is fine. Also, it's usually when I choose the option of looking at one camera. When I look at 9, it usually isn't a problem. But as soon as it starts flasking, I have to take it off the screen completely.

It started acouple weeks ago, I rebooted my computer and went to turn my monitor on but it flashed and showed the desktop for like 1 second but then went completely black as if I just turn it off. The green light on the monitor stayed green even when the screen was black. I can get it to work after I keep trying to turn it on like 20 times but it is gradually getting worse. Now it takes me like 100 times turning it on for it to finally work. Can anyone fill me in on whats going on here? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Monitor flashes on and off when trying to turn it on

Its likely broke and needs to be serviced or replaced, as too what I could tell you for sure, possible the power supply unit or a circuit or switch....

To confirm try it on another computer, if the monitor shows the same issue then you need to have it serviced or warrantied. Depending on the brand it can have a 1 to 5 year warranty.

It seems to happen more frequently when im running full screen videos(Hulu), but has yet to happen while playing my full screen games (mass effect 2,Boredelands, Fallout 3) I tried a new monitor and it still happens. The status light on the monitor doesnt change. Ive read up on these issues and most say its the monitor while other seem to have slightly different symptoms. Hey Peregrin72,  Great question! You could first try changing your default Internet Browser setting in Windows.  1. Click the Start button 2. Type 'default'3. Click Default Programs4. Click Set Your Default Programs5. Click on the desired browser and then click Set this program as default.  Let me know the results of that change. There is also a registry change that may help.

I recently replaced the hard disk in my Yoga2 with an SSD - it is not yet formatted. The plan is to boot from a USB stick that I prepared as a Windows 8 recovery medium - but first I need to get into the BIOS to turn on legacy booting. In the past, I was always able to get into the BIOS wih the Novo button, but ever since I replaced the hard disk, the Novo button acts as a power button and gives me the message "No bootable device found". How do I get into the BIOS?

Answer:Yoga2 11 - Novo button acts as power button

Just press F2 (repeatedly) at boot time.

Greetings,, I have a Dell Dimension E510. The other night, my son went to shut down the computer, and before it went down the correct way, he turned the power off. Now when he tries to turn the pc on, the power light will flash slowly, but the pc will never boot up. If it was a bad power supply, the power button would not even light up... right? Any ideas?

Answer:power light flashes, but pc won't boot

Get your Service Tag number (on the system and the paperwork) and type it in here to access all the stuff on your PC: http://support.dell.com/support/top...t_central?~ck=ln&c=us&cs=04&l=en&lnki=0&s=bsd
Look in the FAQ's or the manuals for how to reset the CMOS and that will probably fix it.
Your system has gotten stuck in a power save state.
The E510's need a BIOS upgrade (under downloads) to fixe several problems. Get it too

Hi

Starting Saturday , whenever I press my power button to turn on my computer it rapidly turns on and off. The LED lights on my fans are about half the brightness they regularly are. As well the lights from my audio card flash on and off. This leads me to believe its an issue with my power supply. I did some searching and came across THIS thread but unlike in that particular case, I can get my PC to turn on and run perfectly smooth after about 3-7 trys of flicking the switch on my power bar and trying to boot my PC. Having this though makes me think it may be an issue with my motherboard. I have tried checking the connections inside my pc, a different wall socket, and a different power bar.

Here is a video I managed to take with my iPod

Thank you for any help or suggestions

Answer:My PC flashes on and off rapidly when power is pressed

Hi! Shimmer93, welcome to 7F

The exact same symptoms I was having on my XP box, It took a new PSU to correct the problem.

If you don't have a couple of high powered cards installed you can get away with one that is rated for 500w. $45USD

If you do, go up to 700 or 800w. At the least match what you already have.

My notebook model is ES1-411-POCM. Some time ago it stopped booting immediately after pressing the power button. It keeps blinking for 5 seconds and will not boot for many hours (screen is blank and cooling fan does not spin) until finaly it boots and works fine. I have checked everything that has to do with the OS (Windows 10) and it works well. I am scared to hibernate or shutdown as this takes me back to square one. Any body out there with an idea and solution to my problem?

On my brother-in-laws PC when the power swith is pressed all that happens is the light on the switch flashes and the CPU fan starts and speeds up and slows down, it does not even get to post screen.I have tried it on a different monitor, tried a different memory stick, unplugged everything except the memory but still no post screen and I have tried a different PSU.

Answer:Light on power switch just flashes

Hmmm - Sounds like your motherboard may have gone for a burton. Try removing and reseating the RAM, you could try removing and reseating the CPU, but if you do that remember you will need to reapply some thermal paste or a pad.It may be worth first however, resetting the CMOS using the jumper - it probably won't do anything, but I have managed to bring a couple of computers in the same state back to life by doing this.

Basic setup:
Dimension 8200, Geforce FX 5200 video card, and a trinitron plug and play monitor (I don't know the exact model number, it's not listed in the hardware profile), and I'm running win XP with directx 9.0 drivers.

Problem:
when I play certain video formats, some games (I can only assume it's a problem for all games, as I don't really play PC games anymore, and just tried one today), and video-related programs, such as DVD creation software, my monitor starts flashing to a black screen, once or twice every second. Videos such as youtube and other types of embedded videos work fine, as does quicktime. Anything like a windows media file (although, not music), embedded in a website or played through winamp or windows media player causes the flashing.

The flashing generally tends to get worse the longer I let the application that started the flashing continue running. For example, if I open a website with an embedded windows video file, the flashing starts. If I go back in the browser immediately, it stops, but the PC seems to remain somewhat unstable and is liable to crash from something else. If I don't go back in the browser, the flashing gets worse, to the point where the computer crashes and restarts itself.

I've tried lots of things. I formatted the HD and reinstalled the OS a couple months ago after the flashing got worse, and I think that seemed to fix it for a while, although I honestly can't really remember if it did. I seem to remember that it was f... Read more

Hi
I have a SAMSUNG SyncMaster 940BF monitor (it's 2 years old), and the problem

is that when I first turn it on, it flashes to a black screen a few times; only after I push

the on/off button a few times, it displays normally.

Also, sometimes, these first few times it makes a sharp buzzing noise.

Any ideas about what could be the problem?

Dual monitors 1st monitor flashes on and off
the 2nd monitor works fine never flashes.
I have a Dell XPS 400, Windows7, Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS
The 1st monitor is a Dell E228WFP that has a DVI-D Dual Link connector.
With a DVI-D Single Link cable into the
Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS connector DVI-I dual Link
The 2nd monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster 923NW connector VGA
With a VGA cable into the
VGA connector on the Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS
While I was searching the forum for an answer the 1st monitor flash a lot.
While i was posting this thread it didn't flash at all.
Question #2 how do I setup the monitors to display across both monitors as one display for gaming?

Answer:Dual monitors 1st monitor flashes

Try a different DVI cable.

You can't. Most games will default and only play on the primary monitor.
