Windows Update > The page failed to load

Question: Windows Update > The page failed to load

I'm working on my mom's computer remotely via LogMeIn (Home Premium SP2). A persistent problem is an inability to update the system due to the Windows Update giving me a "The page failed to load" error. This happens after I click on the "15 optional updates are available" hyperlink in the Windows Update pane. There are no critical updates.

An initial Google search returned the most common cause as being "WindowBlinds" by Stardock. This program, however, is not installed on her computer (verified by a search of programs in the "All Programs" links, "Program Files" folder, "Uninstall or change a program", and a search for "stardock" in the registry.

"sfc /scannow" in administrative mode on the command line failed to return any errors.

I also went to Microsoft's relevant Knowledge Base article here and attempted to use the Fix It program to fix Windows Update. The program successfully ran and fixed the files that were damaged (whatever they happened to be), but this did not solve the issue.

Finally, I removed threats using SUPERAntiSpyware, reregistered some .dll files as recommended by Microsoft (IMPORTANT NOTE: Some of them failed), and restarted with non-essential services disabled and startup items disabled.

Preferred Solution: Windows Update > The page failed to load

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

you've probably heard this before but everywhere I look forums only tell of how to fix or temporarily fix it. What caused this problem in the first place? also, I keep hearing about this thing called windows blinds but everytime I type it in on google it just shows actual window blinds for houses in the results.

I think my pc may have registry problems. If i fix those with the right software will everything be normal again? sometimes when I play my games it also just shuts down unexpectedly telling me a prob caused it to close.

Don't mean to sound like a noob for this stuff but it kind of bugs me how you have to do so much research and be a tech genius in order to use windows right. I mainly want to know about this stuff because I play crysis alot and it has taught me to fix and reconfigure things on my pc in order for it to run better and I'm happy about that but I don't really want to be a techie or pc enthusiast and have to go to computer school for 4 years just so I can run my game perfectly! its driving me nuts. so any help on what I can do to solve this? know its my fault for downloading freeware and things like that when I wasnt as knowledgeble but after this gets resolved I think I know enough about pc's now to prevent any future problems. thanks guys.

I am using Vista 64 bit. It seems that it has suddenly lost the wuapp. I have tried to open it from the control panel>system maintenance>windows update.
All I am able to get is "The page failed to load".
I have also tried to open it directly from computer>hp
C : >windows>system 32
with the same result.
With out this I am unable to see the updates for my system. I have even tried to look at the Microsoft website and find nothing there.

Do you have any Stardock programs installed? Alot of people report this problem after installing Stardock especially the Stardock application My Colors. Also have you installed any other browsers besides IE. Could be a number of things disrupting the Windows Update

Viruses also cancause this.Because scanning on allive system is not credible because many viruses can hide before antivirus I suggest use LiveCD with antivirus for example this one Dr.Web LiveCD is a software product that features a standard, Dr.Web scanner ,burn boot it and scan.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium (x64) Service Pack 1 and the Windows update page will not load. No error messages it will not load. Any Microsoft help or support that leads to anything connected with Windows update will not load. I thought I was getting auto updates, but I am missing 8 important to critical updates. I have even tried downloading IE8 but it gets stuck on the Windows update.

What to do, what to do, what to do?

TIA

Answer:Windows update page will not load.

I was in your situation with Vista 32 for 3 months. First thing is to scan for malicious software/rootkits that may have turned off update. If you are confident that is not the cause, then you will need to rename the SoftwareDistribution folder in the Windows directory, something like SoftwareDistributionOld. You may have to first turnoff update in the Services (Administrative Tools) to do this. Reboot, and Update will recreate your SoftwareDistribution folder and you "may" then be able to update. Otherwise, like in my situation, you have a lot of heartache and google searching to do. I had to run a bits.reg routine to fix my bits (background Intelligent Transfer Services) in my registry; then I had to reregister a boatload of dll's. TurboTax 2008 had poorly installed and corrupted a number of files and registry entries.

Good luck.....

Hi,http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com results in "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". Different IE pages open randomly while browsing the web. Defenitely the sign of some virus. I have XP Pro SP3, and IE 8. Under IE's tools > options > Connection > LAN settings I found a proxy server setup. I erased those entries, but it did not help either. I scanned and removed everything with most recent versions os Malewarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, CCleaner. Hi Guys at SevenForums Im back again(i know you guys are tired of me, lol)! O.K., here goes:

first, I got an alert from the action center saying I have a virus( although i know it would be helpful, i do not remeber the virus' name, sorry), it showed the name, and suggested i remove it. So i downloaded mbam, installed it, updated it, and ran it. it discovered 1 moderate, 3 low risk infections so I removed them all. I ran a quick scan afterwards to confirm the system was clean...and system was clean. ( I also ran a quick scan with VIPRE Internet Security 2013 and found 0 infections)

second, I received a windows update alert saying there were updates available. I figured that would be a good idea right about now to fully update my system with any vulnerability releases, so i let them download, but i always choose when to install them. They completed download and were "ready" for install. so I shutdown the computer so it can install the updates. So far, all textbook stuff right?

Here's where it got tricky...

O.K. so third, it gets to the windows screen, but the login screen never appears just the mouse cursor. I chalk it up to the updates now being configured,...so I wait...and wait...and wait. So now its been 15 min and things are not looking textbook at this point. the display is still showing a black screen and I notice the HDD light is not flashing, so its not crunching. Since no data was being crunched I figured it safe to power down and retry, but the power ... Read more

Recently I discovered that windows update on my computer doesn't work anymore. When I tried to access Windows Update page , all I got is: "This webpage is not available." in google chrome. In Internet Explorer when I try the windows update link, the browser keeps closing and restarting with no success. If trying to google about this problem concerning windows update issues I also get the browser closing and restarting. Also no succes in Mozzila Firefox nor in Apple Safari. I tried all browsers with no success: windows update page is not working ( Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage), neither is it possible to update form Windows, I just can't get updates to work no matter I do.

When I tried to run Combofix to see the results, the computer freezes and I need to shutdown and restart.
I scanned my computer with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and I didn't get any objects infected.
What advice can you give me?
Thanks in advance.

PS: also on this page in this post when I tried to paste the windows update adress(link) I could not post, I get "This webpage is not available." in chrome.
In Safari: Safari can’t open the page “http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?”. The error is: “unknown error” (kCFErrorDomainWinSock:10052)
And it is only because I pasted the adress of windows update site I could not post it no matter what browser I use.

Hello,
I am currently having trouble with my Windows Vista home Premium 32-bit computer. I am using a NETGEAR Wireless USB adapter for my internet and a few thing's have seemed to go wrong.

First of all, the Network logo that normaly appears in the task bar has gone missing. When you right click>Properties and then try to tick Network, the grey tick box has been locked, so you can not select it.

Secondly, When I go to Network and Sharing center it come's up The Page Failed To Load.

Also, sometime's when I log onto Vista it come's up C:\Windows\system32\WINBRAND.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contain's an error. I don't know if this is linked in some how.

I have no internet access on that computer, and that is the only computer I am able to use at my home so it is very annoying that I ahve not been able to find a fix for this some where.

I am alright with computer's but not to good with complicated stuff. But anything for a fix

I hope someone could help me out with this problem,
Mackenzie.

This is the first time I encountered this kind of problem.

Everything used to be running well, until one day that my IE6 at my office couldn't load the Windows Update page and other pages that required AcitveX such as TrendMicro's HouseCall and Symantec's Security Check. They kept saying that I'm using an old version of IE and needed IE5 or later to display their pages.

I've checked all the settings for IE6 and everything seems to be in place, the system is fully patched and an up-to-date antivirus OfficeScan 7.0 is running. No virus or spyware were found by OfficeScan and Ad-Aware SE 1.05. I've run sfc /scannow and re-installed ie.inf, but still couldn't solve the problem.

There're a few strange things that I need to point out. When I clicked Help->About Internet Explorer at IE, it doesn't display the Version, Cipher Strength and Product ID, they are all left blank. And when I clicked OK, it doesn't go away... (see attachment) Everything inside my computer is licensed, so I don't know why it doesn't display the Product ID.

Another thing is that when I tried to open Windows Media Player, it just prompted me an error message saying that "An internal application error has occured.", and the media player won't load.

This problem has been troubling me because it prevents me from updating the Windows myself, so hopefully some Microsoft experts here are able to help me... Thanks a lot...

I have spent weeks searching the Internet to resolve this problem. OS is Windows 7 Ultimate. I tried the following, and none of these instances resolves the "Page failed to load" issue:

- safe mode
- Clean boot
- New administrator user
- Avast antivirus
- Malware bytes
- sfc /scannow
- chkdisk

I could not perform system restore.
I don't have any other problem with the computer, which is running fast and is stable. All control panel functions are operating properly, except for Action Center display. I would like to avoid reinstalling Windows, because I would rather live without Action Center then going through the painful process.

Any suggestion on this is deeply appreciated.

I have Vista Business SP1 and I one day decided to reboot (shouldve known thats a bad idea with Microsoft Operating systems lol) and I had a torrent client running, so I guess thats what caused this whole thing...After reboot, I get no networking icon on the taskbar, if I open up Network, its blank, or going to the properties, I get a blank window that just says "Page failed to load" I scoured the net and found alot of people with similar problems, no common resolution to making it work, however I tried:

sfc /scannow and read the CBS log to find out there are two files that corrupted and cant be recovered by Windows (wlanutil.dll and a HotStart.adml) I couldnt find anything on the latter, but i ran a chkdsk /F /R to find TONS of corruption on the drive, but not quite sure where to go from here.

I dont have a Recovery file to work with to replace those files (if even just to try) and System Restore didnt do sh!t.

Worst part is, everything else on the OS works fine - its just one of those Vista things...works for a bit, then something else breaks.

Help?

I get the error "The page failed to load" in control panel, but for a strange reason, it only occurs on every 5th attempt at opening a setting.

After this error, explorer.exe will either freeze/crash (and I need to kill it) or it'll just sit there still trying to load the page but allows me to close the window without it crashing.

How I reproduce the error:

1. I open control panel
2. It doesn't really matter which setting I choose to open, but for testing purposes I open "Ease of Access Center"
3. The first 4 times I open Ease of Access Center it loads just fine
4. The 5th time it shows a blank page with that error message centered!?

This seems to happen only on the 5th time and it seems to apply to the majority of the settings in control panel. I am absolutely clueless on the fix. It doesn't do this in safe mode. I suspect it could be a driver or just something in the registry but I'd love to be able to narrow this down and find the culprit without reinstalling clean.

Answer:The page failed to load.. Dump File Plz Analyze

Kudos for the desire to get straight to the debugging phase of troubleshooting, but there's a problem- what you're experiencing is not technically a "crash" in the sense that a process terminated in an abnormal way.

Not every error message constitutes a crash.

As a wild guess, is your UxTheme.DLL "patched" perhaps?

After Windows 8.1 downloaded and installed an update and also SQL Server 2012 SP1, I restarted it and then it no longer booted. The BIOS splash screen would pop up, then the screen went black and nothing else happened. Even the hard drive activity stopped.
I booted from the Windows 8 DVD and chose Troubleshooting and tried Automatic Repair and System Restore, neither of which worked. I then chose Refresh Your PC. However, it then said the drive was locked and I should unlock it before continuing. I used Diskpart to clear the attributes of the volume but that didn't help.

In the end, I did a reinstall without formatting the disk. Once I booted it up properly, I had a look in the Windows.old folder and all of my documents, pictures and other work are missing.

Firstly, is there any way I can roll back to the original install so I don't have to spend a full day installing everything again, and if not, how do I recover all my files?

Everytime I go there, through every means possible, the page is blank and white. It just hangs. Then I have to use my taskmanager to get out of it. I'm getting very discouraged. If anyone out there has a way of fixing this, I would shout out their name from my rooftop, with pure jubilation!!!

When I click the sound symbol it automatically searches for the driver, finds it, and again it says there's a driverproblem even if it's installed correctly. Now, as a datatechnician and C# programmer I am getting nervous about two possibilities .. http://www.malwarebytes.org/ How about trying a system restore and take it back before all the updates were done.  If that works and everything is back like it was, then download this from the link and let it update and run a quick scan just to rule out any malware.  If all your hardware is back working and you are not able to download malwarebytes, post back.  If you are able to download it and do the scan and nothing shows up, then you can run your system update again and this time don't install everything at once, install one at a time and reboot after each one.  Run your system and make sure there are no problems before you install the next one. The problem with doing a bunch of updates all at once makes it real difficult to determine which one is acting up.   Let's work on getting your system back to normal and then we'll see what's going on with the wireless disconnecting and the problem with the start button.

Hi

When I right click My Computer on Vista Start menu the page says "The page failed to load"

I enclose a screenshot of the error.

I was also get "the application has failed to start because WINBRAND.dll was not found" when running

SystemPropertiesAdvanced

From RUN

This has now been fixed by downloading WINBRAND.dll and copying it to c:\windows\system32

But "The page failed to load" still happens when right clicking My Computer and choosing properties.

I did a SFC / Scannow and something weird happened. The Command Window had an error (apologies - forgot to note which but will rerun in a moment) however the CBS Log File showed no errors and indicated SFC ran successfully.

I will post the results of SFC in a few moments

Thanks for your help.

On 8 with IE10 there was no problem.
I could go to www.charter.net and successfully follow the link to TV Listings
After upgrading to 8.1 with IE11 there is a small problem. It only shows a spinning wheel and not the listings.

It does the same on another pc I upgraded to 8.1 from the store.
If I use Chrome, the TV Listings shows properly.

Any ideas or solution to fix IE11 without switching to Chrome for one page?

Thank you.

Answer:IE11 failing to load 1 link on page after 8.1 update

In IE11, you should be able to upper right corner to Tools then to Compatibility View settings, just click the Add button then just add that page to the list of pages that require compatibility mode.

I ran "sfc /scannow". SFC reported that there were corrupted files that could not be repaired or replaced and to look at CBS.log. I did but can make no sense out of it.

Please find that file attached -- Any help will be appreciated.....

Answer:"Page Failed to Load" error attempting to change my Win7-64bit display

Run the system file check again. Sometimes it requires multiple runs. Reboot after each run (or before the first run if you have not rebooted since the last time you ran the check).Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker up to three times to fix all errors with a restart in between each. Post back if it continues to show errors after a fourth run or if the first run comes back with no integrity violations. Use OPTION THREE of SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker to provide us with the sfcdetails.txt file if errors occur.

Several days ago there was a large number of updates available to download. I allowed the system to update all of them. Three, KB974234, KB972581 and KB973709 it was shown on the update history page as failing to download.
Reading as to a possible solution, I tried to load them manually, saving those files to my desktop, right clicking on each, to run as an administrator. After each loaded I got a message telling me they were already installed on my system.
My question is why does the "failure" notice remain on my history page and how can I delete those three file entries?
Thanks much,

And cannot download PC-Cillin.) Also, Windows update will not work. These pages are kept from loading. Is there somewhere I should look for the reason for this? I installed the latest round of Windows updates for my Win7 x64 install and it never completed (ran for about 24 hours) so I powered off the machine. Upon restarting, it said:

Code:
"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause" and has instructions for using system repair, then at the bottom:

File: \Boot\BCD
Status: Oxc000000f
Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data
So I booted off a Windows recovery disk and figured Startup Repair would fix it. Alas, after it says "Windows found problems with your computer's startup options" and asks me if I want to repair, I click "repair and restart" and it says "Failed to save startup options".

Code:
The "repair details" are:

Just got my W530, plugged it in, set up internet, and proceeded to run Windows Update as my first chore.  29 of the initial 54 updates FAILED.  Tried 3 more times, nothing but failures.  Ran system restore, and selected the first restore point, from when I first powered up the computer.  System restore FAILED. I am guessing this is not normal?  I only installed a few browsers, and CPUZ, in between the updating process.  I am trying to make recovery media, but the please wait dialog has been doing it's impression of KIT the car for at least 10 minutes, and when I tried to close it I get "not responding". Any ideas?  It would be nice if I didn't have to return a new laptop over some lame software glitch. :-( Paul Anderegg

Any security settings needs to be enable / disable to avoid this loading issue.

Answer:Many failed update on history windows failed to configure startup

Hello smeraldan and welcome to Seven Forums.

My usual disclaimer: I'm not an expert at anything. Sometimes malware can prevent Windows Updates from installing. Run a full scan with your personal anti-malware suite. Then use the free Malwarebytes to run another full scan. (No anti-malware product is 100% effective 100% of the time. If there was such a thing we'd all be using it.)

Malwarebytes

Another possible problem is if system files became damaged or corrupt. I'd run a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found run the scan 3 times rebooting in between each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

You could also try running the System Update Readiness Tool if you haven't already done so.

System Update Readiness Tool fixes Windows Update errors in Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2008

Try installing the updates again, but this time just do a few at a time (maybe only 5 or so.) Keep track of the KB numbers. Start with the critical updates, then the important, and save the optional for last. If a group of 5 installs OK go on to the next group. If any group fails to install you'll know which group to uninstall. Try installing just one update at a time. If they install OK go on to the next group. Otherwise just ignore the problem update(s) for the time being and continue installing in groups of 5.

When I started my computer up, it failed to load windows. Since it was stuck at the windows loading screen for 10 minutes, I rebooted into safemode where I attempted a system repair (It came up automaitcally). hey guys, really hope someone can help me with this one:

was using my laptop perfectly fine, saw that it had automatically downloaded the latest windows update so switched it off to let it update and everything. then couple of hours later i turned it back on, and get the black screen with:

if windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, startup repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. if power was interrupted during startup, choose start windows normally.

- launch startup repair (recommended)
- start windows normally"

ive tried both of these:
- startup repair takes me to a blank screen with a mouse, and nothing loads up
- start windows normally just takes me back to the black error message screen

ive tryed baiscally everything on F8 too (including safe mode, and loading windows on the last successful boot configuration) and it starts to load up(windows) but eventually goes back to the error message. and thats it. ive left it like that over night and still nothing.

Please help me, I am not very good with solving problems with computers. My laptop (Acer Aspire 5630) had been playing up a little bit for the last couple of days, but because it is three years old I thought that it was just due to the fact that I had to many files and web history on it. This morning it came up with a message that windows needed had an important update so I allowed it to start. When I restarted my laptop with came up with 'Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt' and the Status says: OxcOOOO221.

It's telling me to insert a windows installation disc and restart my computer. Now I know I am going to sound really niave but I am not too sure what this is because when I bought my laptop I had Windows already on it. And also even if i did do this then would it actually fix it? Would I lose all my files? And what do you think caused this to happen? I would really appreciate it if you could help me. Thank you.

Big problem! I installed and ran Norton Antivirus 2006 on my home computer. Now I get the welcome screen with all the users but then I get a message when I try to log on as any user: "Explorer exe. unable to locate component. This application failed to start because WININET.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." Someone said it's the Windows Initiation file. I can get to task manager, but can't bring the computer up in safe mode. Any ideas?

Hi everyone! This is my first time at TechSpot but it looks like it is a very knowledgable community so I'm hoping you can suggest a possible solution.

The HDD on my wife's laptop has stopped working with no warning, leaving business critical data stranded. I would be grateful for any advice on how to fix this if possible. Here is exactly what happened as far as we can remember (please excuse any silly terminology - we are not too technical):

-laptop was running on the battery, my wife left it on too long and the battery ran out

-she plugged it into the mains to recharge and it started again, she continued working until she had to take a long telephone call

-on returning to computer she found it was frozen and she could not start programmes, switch off, reboot, etc in normal way. In the end she turned it off by removing the battery and replacing it (an old trick from an IT guy in a company she used to work for)

-when she tried to restart she got an error before the OS started to load saying (something like) there was a problem starting Windows (or stopping an earlier session) and giving her the options to start again normally or in Safe Mode, go to the command prompt, etc.

-she tried normal start but it did not work ? it brought up the dotted progress bar which took forever to complete but then just came back to the original error screen

-when I got home I tried the Safe Mode option and it looked like it was doing something ? it came up wi... Read more

Answer:HDD on laptop has failed, will not load Windows

Instead of ripping out the battery, you shoult turn off the laptop using the power button. Hold it for 10 seconds.

Let's go step by step here.
First, you should make sure it is the hard drive that is bad and nothing else like the laptop or the filesystem or whatever. Ideally you would take it out of the laptop and attach it to another computer (desktop (with an adapter) or laptop). Then test the hard drive with the diagnostics utility from the drive manufacturer.

How much and what kind of data do you need to restore? If the drive is in a very bad shape, then you are not going to get everything back and it is likely that you will be able to recover only individual files or files of certain type.

My computer fails to load windows and keeps restarting at the point of the windows load screen.

When I started my computer, I got a pop-up saying AVG needed to restart the computer for an update. After the restart, the Windows Repair screen came up saying windows failed to load. Startup Repair tried to automatically fix the problem, which was taking a while, so I turn on my laptop. I saw the same AVG update pop up, and I wasn't yet suspicious of it so I restart my laptop as well. Unfortunately the same thing appears on the laptop.

The auto repair worked on the laptop but it failed on the desktop. Now the desktop acts as I've described above: it restarts every time it gets to the Windows loading screen. Running in safe mode does nothing. Trying a system restore (to yesterday, when it was working fine) does nothing. When the laptop restarted to normal, I got the AVG update window again, which I'm ignoring for now.

Both computers run Win7 Home Premium x64.

If it's any help, here's the desktop's Startup Repair problem details:

4. I have tried safe mode and repair, but I cant do anything because when booting with the dvd install disc I get only the blue screen, and when booting from hd, and try safe mode or any other option, it doesnt work.

5 . Technical info: ACER laptop The drive is a seagate barracuda 120gb 5400 2,5

Hi my wife’s friend’s computer is having a problem, first it didn’t have any virus scan problem – so I installed AVG 7.0. AVG ran clean with the current updates. I also ran Adaware and Spybot with current updates and they removed some spyware programs.

My problem now is when I try to access Microsoft’s Windows Update page all I get is a BLANK white screen with a message "Done” in the bottom left corner. I get the same results when I go to the Symantic Security Check web page and I click on the GO button to do the security check, it open a new BLANK white window???

Could this Virus, spyware or just a setting???

Hi, folks -

It must be true that when it rains, it pours.  I had a little malware problem with a laptop the other day.  Now I've got another problem on an entirely different machine.

I have a Compaq Presario CQ5300Y desktop that has been acting wonky the past few weeks.  I first noticed the machine was running pretty slowly... and was periodically kicking out messages that applications needed to be shut down because there wasn't enough memory to run them.  (The machine has only 2GB, but it's really only used for surfing the Internet.)

I ran the HP/Compaq hardware diagnostic tools and it came up with a fail on the SMART Short Self Test.  I rebooted and was able to get into the OS just fine.  A couple of days later, I ran the diagnostic tools again and the SMART Short Self Test passed.  So... I didn't think too much about it.

A few days later, I had trouble starting Windows... got a message saying Windows is unable to start.  So, I ran Startup Repair and was able to get into the OS.  I immediately started thinking maybe it was a virus/malware, so ran a bunch of scans with Avast! (pro version), Malewarebyte's Anti-Malware, rootkill, and a few others.  Stuff was detected, but the programs were able to remove the malware/virus.

This morning, however, I can't get into Windows at all. When I tried System Restore, I got a brief message about the D: drive being corrupt. Startup Repair can't fix the pr... Read more

Answer:SMART Short Self Failed, Windows 7 Won't Load

Whoops... I forgot to add something.  A couple of times, system restore gave me the message... "your system was successfully restored...click here to reboot."  When I would click to reboot, however, it rebooted me to the screen that says "Windows was unable to start.  Click here for startup repair."

Hi everyone. I was hoping some of you could help me whit my windows 7 installation problem. Apologies in advance for my english skills. I couldn't find a topic for my problem so I started a new one.

I was meddling whit my old Computer and tried to clean install Windows 7 from CD using Sandberg external dvd drive. I set the correct boot order and booted from external device.  Windows files started to normally load files, but after it was finished I got an error message of a missing or corrupted file. I tried to boot the Computer several times and everytime  error message is the same but the missing file is different. I tried multiple boot options and also tried to restart Windows in safe mode. It just says that there is no operating system installed no matter what I do.  I've had some problems whit USB ports on the old Computer before. Could this be causing the problem?

Im clueless what to do next. Thanks for help in advance.

Answer:Windows 7 failed to load because a file is missing

Since you attempted a clean install...just use the Windows install disk to delete current existing partitions...then try again.

Before attempting an install of Windows...it's basic to ensure that the drive on which Windows will be placed...is without problems.  This can be done by attaching said drive to another system as a secondary...then running the hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic.

I turned my laptop on today and the usual boot process began.
-Toshiba logo (press F2, F12)
-windows green loading bar

Then the laptop displays a black screen and nothing happens.
When I power off the laptop and turn it back on I get a message saying "windows failed to load" it then gives me the options to run windows normally or to run windows restore.
Windows restores does not work when I try to run it.

This previously happened to me and I was forced to use my backup restore CDs to restore the laptop to originial settings. I would like to try and resolve the issue for good, if possible, though.

I do not want to have to restore the laptop each time this happens and risk losing saved data.

The laptop works fine when constantly plugged in.
Both times now this has happened when the laptop has been disconnected from the mains and the battery has run out of power.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If yes try to roll back OS to earlier time using system restore tool.

well most of the treads i see about this are in spanish and needless to say i don't speak another language i only know english so regretably i am asking how i can go about getting comdlg32.ocx to load correctly on windows 7?  every time i try to load it through a commnd prompt or through the file search on the start up menu i get the same failed to load error.  and that goes for trying to load the file as an administrator.  any help with getting this file to load properly on windows 7 would be most appreciated.

Answer:c:windows\system32\comdlg32.ocx failed to load

To those who still have this problem. Here's the solution. It is pretty simple. The reason the .ocx file is showing up as incompatible, is because it was put in the wrong folder. I assume most of you placed the .ocx in the System32 folder. But if you are
using Vista and/or Win7 64-bit, the .ocx must be placed in the SysWOW64 folder instead, which, just so happens to be right next to the System32 folder :D.
After that, just follow the same instructions, but simply change to the corresponding path in the CMD. Like this:

Move comdlg32.ocx to c:\Windows\SysWOW64 Open a command line window and run following command:
regsvr32 c:\Windows\SysWOW64\comdlg32.ocx
b) For Vista/Win7 users with UAC turn on, the above command needs to be run from elevated command prompt.
Once comdlg32 is registered successfully, following message will prompt: "DllRegisterServer in C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\comdlg32.ocx succeeded."
Now launch the application again and you should not see the file missing error.

Hope it helped.

Answer:Windows Boot Manager - windows failed to load because the HAL is missing

Hi

I assume the \System32\Hal.dll is missing.
This means that your windows OS needs to be reinstalled.

I don?t know what notebook you have but I think that Toshiba recovery disk creator was preinstalled on your notebook. This software creates the Toshiba recovery DVD which help you to reinstall the OS. But now it?s to late? you cannot boot into the OS.

You could try this:
Press F8, choose repair my computer and then choose Toshiba HDD Recovery.
Maybe this option is available.

If not then you would need a Windows installation disk?

it seems like "explorer.exe" is not loading. after the background loads, open task manager, go to "file, new task" and type in "explorer.exe." if everything loads after doing this, then some registries entries may be corrupt.

Do you have a bootable vista dvd?
if so
1. Put the Windows Vista or Windows 7 installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
2. Press a key when you are prompted.
3. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.
4. Click Repair your computer.
5. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.
7. Type the command sfc /scannow

: QLA40XX iSCSI Host Bus Adapter
Description: QLogic iSCSI Storport Miniport Driver

Go to website of that company and try to download driver.

You may have to use another compter and download to a finger drive etc.
Once you have it, you can boot from the Windows DVD and try to install.

Alternatively, you can go to device manager, under view, check show hidden drivers. If you find one with a yellow marker, you can try to dowload from there.

I've been getting an error message every time I try to upgrade my Win7 Pro install to Win10. When I researched the issue I discovered that somehow my system partition was only 37MB instead of the usual 100MB that Windows creates when installing. This probably because I cloned the drive from a 1TB mechanical to my current 256GB SSD a year ago.

In any case, I attempted to resize the system partition by using Partition Wizard to first shrink the OS partition, then expand the System partition to fill the extra unallocated space. Everything went smoothly with the resize, but now I can't boot Windows - I just get the error in the title of this thread every time. I knew it probably wasn't a good idea to mess around with the beginning section of the OS partition, and I'm really kicking myself in the pants right now for not doing a disk backup first like I knew I should have.

So far I've only tried the bootrec commands and system repair, but neither have worked. Can anyone provide some additional methods I should try?

Answer:Windows Failed to Load - Winload.exe Corrupt or Missing

I finally got this issue resolved! Not sure what did it other than pure dumb luck. I kept at it with System Repair and the bootrec commands. It was strange that I kept getting different results each time. Sometimes System Repair would crash, sometimes it would say no problems can be resolved, ect. The bootrec commands were the strangest. At the very end when I would run "bootrec /scanos" it said 0 OS detected. For the hell of it I decided to do fixboot, fixmbr and rebuildbcd one more time and it seems to have worked!

My OS is back online and the System partition is a solid 300Mb. Time to do a disk image and then try the Win10 upgrade again!

EDIT: It seems I spoke a little too soon. I can boot in to my OS now and log in, but ONLY when my USB flash drive is connected. It seems that bootrec put the boot configuration on that drive instead of using my System partition on the SSD. When I run bcdedit within windows it says "device partition=I:"

Since I can't run the bootrec commands within Windows, how should I go about changing this? See the attached image for details.

Hello,
I tried to import an entire registry backup, I received an error message similar to this one:" Error accessing the registry.".
then, Via "regedit" I tried to give permissions to my WinUser, (giving full control ).

I still received the same message, so I restarted my pc,And now all I get is black screen when I logon to my user,Same in safe mode.

(I made the backup via regedit, using the export option on every "HKEY" folder, and on "Computer", so I have 6 reg files )

I still have the entire REG backup on my hard drive.
I have hiren's boot and erd commander if it helps, they have some registry tools.

Is it possible to import the backup to my windows?

Thank you.

Answer:Windows won't load after failed registry backup-Import

Hello Supdoc,

To restore the complete registry, you would normally use system restore instead.Registry - Backup and Restore
If you have a restore point available dated before this happened, you could do a system restore at boot with the restore point to do so.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Finally, on one of our computers we decided to remove all of Norton to go with another anti-virus; unfortunately, on rebooting we could not. During a repair-install of XP to keep all of our programs using the XP install CD an error came up. As a result of this apparent error we cannot "install" SP2 from CD, nor install any downloaded SP1 updates from Microsoft. We've tried everything we can think of.

I know the root of the problem is bsod as I see it flash when attempting to load windows.f

I can bring up command prompt by the way.

You will need a Windows 7 repair disc or you can use the Advanced Boot Options to get to the System Recovery Options.

Then try the steps in Startup Repair Infinite Loop Recovery. Note the warning:

Answer:Y400 Failed to load boot manager (windows 8)

Hi JaZZyCooL,

Thanks for posting in the Lenovo Community,

I?d like to ask you did your Lenovo Y400 came a preloaded operating system windows 8?

If it came with windows 8 Pre-installed so could you please try to recover the system using the system recovery by pressing in the one key recovery the button with the curve arrow next to the power button,

And then choose from the options that came to you: System Recovery,

And then Step1 choose restore from initial backup,

And then start the process and please make sure that the charger is connected during the operation and nothing interrupts the operation while running on,

I?d like to confirm to you that this operation will return the machine back to the initial state and all ur data will be erased and the machine will be back as new,

Hope the information helps. Let us know.

Regards

Soha

Dual 500gb asus gh73jh-a1 laptop had C: drive fail, I have a good backup on external HDD that was made by windows backup. I've got an intel 530 240gb SSD coming that I want to load the backup to to make it the new C: drive. I've heard an extra step is required if going to the smaller drive, is there a step by step guide somewhere for a newbie to do this whole procedure?

Answer:replace failed HDD with SMALLER SSD and load from windows backup?

Yes, mount the VHD image somewhere on a working Windows 7 machine, then use Easeus Partition Manager and trim the partition to the size of your SSD. Then unmount VHD image and write it to the SSD using WinImage option Restore virtual disk image on physical drive - it will show an error at about 50%, but don't worry. Then just boot off the SSD

I reinstalled Windows Vista 32 bit on my Gateway laptop using the OEM
install cd that came with it, but now when I boot up I get the following
window:

Windows Boot Manager

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the
cause. To fix this problem:
1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or
computer manufacturer for assistance.

Reading a similar post, I tried the 3 methods from WinRE (Startup
Repair, Bootrec /RebuildBcd, System Recovery) but they didn't work. I ran
SFC /scannow from command prompt C: and it reports : Windows Resource
Protection could not start the repair service. I ran Windows Memory
Diagnostics tool from WinRE and it reports no errors on my hard drive.

I consulted the Gateway support site & also tried to access the recovery
partition by pressing ALT-F10 upon reboot, but it didn't work either. I
tried getting in safe mode by pressing F8, but I didn't get the 'Repair
your computer' option which would have gotten me into Gateway's Recovery
Management window. I can't even get into Safe mode either, it loads a list of
files and stops on Loaded: \Windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys and then
the Windows Boot Manager mes... Read more

Answer:Windows failed to load because the NLS data is missing, or corrupt.

I contacted Gateway support via online chat. They gave me a utility to scan/test the hard drive (GWSCAN). I ran it and it reported the hard drive has too many errors, and so Gateway advised me that I have to replace the hard drive.

Case closed.

I recently came across a problem where this troubleshooter says my windows update is missing or corrupt. Is there anything wrong with my computer?

Answer:Failed resetting windows update with windows update automated troubleshooter

Your firewall settings may be blocking Windows Updates, or because the proxy override settings are incorrect:

I am currently using windows 7 ultimate x64. I was in the middle of a process restoring my computer to a few days back and suddenly it froze. i did a power shut down and when i turned it back on, i wasn't able to get back into windows. i was brought to startup repair and it gave me errors. 'Boot manager failed to find OS loader." there was options for restoring, but all my restore points were gone. recovery wasn't able to find image backup. "startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically" so i did some research before i came here. i was told to go into safe mode to restore, but whenever i enter safe mode, startup repair would take over and shows the same errors, also i read a tutorial using a repair disc ( made a copy of it on someone elses ultimate x64 computer) and i get the 0x00000e9 error if i boot from disc. what can i do? as of now i dont have the installation disc with me. i wont be able to get hold of it until tomorrow. theres a lot of important files in that hard drive and i really cant lose any. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Answer:Failed to Find OS Load. Startup Repair FAILED

If you can't use a system repair disk, then you could simply reinstall Windows on the same hard drive. You don't need to format the hard drive during installation, just select your main hard drive and install, that way you can preserve your files. The files will be in "Windows.Old" after installation in your "Local Disk".

Also, make sure your repair CD is 64-bit, like your system. Try to access your BIOS, by pressing the "Delete" key; it's different for various mktherboards, and select your CD-ROM to be first to boot. Might help, I'm not sure. If it helps, we'll start from there.

You'll want to select "Command Prompt" from the repair disk, we'll need it.

I would like to delete the failed updates list in Windows 7 Update.  I have done this in the past but forget exactly the process.

I think you go to Windows Folder-Software Distribution.  After deleting everyhting in the folder., i think you are to restart the computer.  Once finished the list of updates in Windows Update will be cleared.

Please correct if I am wrong.  Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Answer:Failed Updates in Windows Update. Want to clear update list?

This is the way I suggest :

Go to start > type in cmd > right click at cmd.exe > Run as Administrator.

Type in "net stop WuAuServ" without quotes > hit enter.

Type in "start %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore" without quotes > hit enter. A folder will come up. Don't close that black window.

Rename file "DataStore" to "DataStoreold" without quotes.

Go to that black screen, Type in "net Start WuAuServ" without quotes > hit Enter. After it finished you can close it.

Now your Windows Update logs will now cleared.

Thank you.

I have had the windows 10 icon on my computer for a long time. When I click, it opens a new window, but the window never loads. I have even left it over night and it still just shows the loading dial. I have tried going around it to try and get windows 10, but it seems going through the icon is the only way to do it. Am I doing something wrong? I know my internet is fine. Everything loads good, it just seems to be the one window that won't load. Can you help me?

Answer:Why won't my windows 10 Icon load the page?

Have you run windows update to get all the updates before trying to upgrade?
