Vista wont load after update error

Question: Vista wont load after update error

I was manually installing service pack 2 on windows vista because i was told this would sort out my problem with not being able to do any auto updates, then it got to the stage where it shutdown and was installing 1/3 updates then when it got to the 2nd part it crashed and when i restart the laptop nothing happens at all, just a black screen, no boot menu options or anything like that. I dont have a vista disc or anything like that, does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can solve this problem, sorry if my explanation was short and not very detailed.

thanks in advance

Preferred Solution: Vista wont load after update error

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Vista wont load after update error

Um, I believe you will need some kind of disk. Specifically, you'd need either the Vista disc or the ERD disc. You need to launch a repair on your OS, as it seems to be screwed. Can you get into Safe mode? Can you get into the pre-boot menu at all?

I have a NB100 And when it trys to boot i get Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys

I have connected a DVD drive with the product recovery disc GMR400882EN0 inside it and powered on, on booting i keep F12 pressed and I get the options for setting it to boot from HD FDD CD/DVD USB Memory, I set it to boot from CD/DVD

When it loads it gets to loading RAM image I get Error 32768 File PEBASE ISO Could Not Load.

I am suspecting faulty recovery disc? and a new one is £29.99? But the laptop is under warranty but they told me to do this.

My daughter has a Asus 904HD and once she had a problem... She had none of the poor support of go and do it yourself... Asus sent a courier very fast-confirmed pick by text-fixed-delivered back confirmed drop off by text within 5 days!!

Answer:NB100 Recovery Disc wont load - Error 32768 File PEBASE could not load

>I am suspecting faulty recovery disc? and a new one is £29.99? But the laptop is under warranty but they told me to do this.

I doubt it?s a faulty recovery disk.
The error message: missing or corrupt: System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys could be caused by faulty HDD or another hardware component.
In your case I recommend contacting the Toshiba ASP for hardware check and new OS installation. The notebook is under warranty (as you suggested in the posting above) and therefore everything should be done for free because it?s covered by warranty

Hi. . .

Welcome to TSF!

I cannot speak towards your HiJackThis log at this time. However, could you please be more specific as to the reason that Vista won't load in normal mode? Are there any error codes or screens that come up?

Have you viewed the event viewer for the time period surrounding a normal boot-up?

When I try to get an update from Microsoft it tells me the following:

Install the ActiveX control required to view the website
The website will not display correctly on your computer without this control. To install it:
1. Right-click the Internet Explorer Information Bar. It's located just below the address bar.
2. In the right-click menu, click Install ActiveX Control.
3. In the Security Warning dialog box, click Install.

Note: If the Information Bar doesn't appear, or if you've installed the control but still can't use the website, take these steps to solve the problem.

I have no"bar" to clik below the explorer bar. I have seen it pop up before but it doesn't with this website. This is keeping me from getting updates. Any suggestions???

Question: Vista Wont Load

Hey guys, new member to the forums. Well, my computer has been giving me a whole bunch of problems lately. I wanted to switch from Vista to Win7 so I started backing up my files onto an external harddrive a few weeks ago. After I started doing that, I turned off my computer and went out. When I came back, my computer didn't turn back on. I figured it was the PSU or Mobo. I got a new PSU and it worked perfectly. Then I shut it off again after using it for a while, and now when I try to start it a black screen appears saying the following:

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

1.Insert your windows installation disc and restart the computer.
2.choose your language settings and then click next.
3.click repair your computer.

Other options:
if power was interrupted during startup, choose start Windows Normally. (Use the arrow keys to highlight your choice.)

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Last known good configuartion (advanced)
Start windows normally

I've tried all the options and every option just gets me to the Vista boot screen. And it doesn't get to the login screen. Please help.

Question: Vista wont load

Hi after some help please,

Basically our Fujitsu Siemens laptop has developed a problem and it wont load. A similar problem happened a few weeks back and it started to work ok after i hit the f8 key when starting.

I will give a little background on what happened just a few days ago, i was downloading a game demo through steam, this seemed to be working ok. I noticed that there was also an automatic update downloading at the same time so as i went to double click to find out what it was i got the blue screen of death! it then restarted itself but it goes through the process of not being able to start properly so i get the 2 options of attempting to recover windows (or something like that) or start windows normally.

If i attempt to fix the problems it never finds anything and if i start windows normally it tries to start but then comes back round to the same screen again.

I did try and look into restoring to a previous date but the only option available is when it started to download the windows update.

I have tried to start up in safe mode but it always goes back to the 2 options screen???

Does anyone know what i can do to try and fix this?

Cheers!

During the final stage of a windows update my com. shut off. Now I get the motherboard start up screen, with the option to access the BIOS, then it says "Loading Operating System" then it loops back to the bios screen again. I went into the BIOS selected to boot from DVD, and when it asks to Boot from CD to press any key...I do,and it still loops back to the BIOS screen!!! I can't break the cycle.

Answer:Shutdown during win 7 update...windows wont load

Hi,Kindly follow the below mentioned steps in order:1.Confirm Hard Drive is recognized in BIOS. If yes, follow next step. If NO, load BIOS defaults.2.Boot to Safe mode and perform system restore. System Restore will affect Windows system files, programs, and registry settings only. If system restore fails or unable to access safe mode, follow next step. 3.Run Start Up repair from the URL mentioned: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/...4.If the issue still persists, then try running the Hardware Diagnostics. If you get any error code, make a note of the error code. Thanks & RegardsDebbie B#iworkfordell

Ok so i decided i would update my BIOS as i saw there was a new BIOS available at the dell website

I have a Inspiron 1100 2.2Cel, 512 Ram, 30GIG
I had a A29 BIOS and was updating to A30, So i downloaded and started the BIOS update it starts installing and has to restart as it restarts all is fine till it gets to the windows splash screen and it comes up with a certain boot file is missing in system32 ( I didn't get chance to see the specifics as i wasn't expecting a problem) and then straight away it restarts so the BIOS didnt finish installing and from then on it simply just keeps restarting at the splash screen

So i thought i would try Safe mode but the same problem, I then try putting my XP cd in and repairing the windows but still no luck so then i went and instaled a second XP which is now working fine, which relieved a bit as the Computer parse is working just not the original Windows

I now have access to the other windows install to be able to put the missing files in, But my main concern is getting "My Documents" as i have a lot of college stuff which isn't backed up on my USB drive, And when i go to get access it comes up with access denied because it's private

I have tried This
still didnt help

Tried copying some system32 files from the fresh install to the old see if the file might missing might have been added but still no luck

I did a virus scan and the scanner was able to scan the files in the "My Docume... Read more

I need help!i know a bit more than the average person about computers and i can usually resolve my computer issues on my own but im stumped! the first time i had an issue was a couple months ago when amd prompted me to update my graphics driver, so i did....after updating  i restarted the computer and i would get to the windows loading screen then,  a black screen with just the loading "ring" shownig. i restarted the machine a few times asnd got the same thing,  so eventually i got to the startup repair screen and i used system restore to bring the computer back to the point before i installed the new driver. after that it worked fine for a few months.  just last week i had the same issue with the black loading screen so i did a system restore again andt windows loaded fine after that, until the screen went to sleep then it refused to come back on and would not boot up again. i had not updated the graphis driver so im not sure what caused it this time and since then thats what has been happening i have tryed restarting it time after time and it will eather freeze at the black loading screen, or will  boot into windows very slowly, then crash again. i have also tryed system restore a few more times and it just boots up once then crashes again i have even tryed repalcing the hard drive and putting a fresh windows 10 install on it and it, but  just does the same thing again. the strangest thing for me is that it seems t... Hello, my windows 7 starter just cannot start. When i last switched off my comp, it has an update on the shut down button, so i shutted down with 20 updates. The next time i switched on my comp, i was unable to even get to the login page. The whole screen is just appeared installing 1 out of 9436 updates with black background. After the 9436 updates, the whole screen turned black with no words, nothing. I cant get to the login page. Then i only can turn off the plug. After that i tried swithcing on again. The computer told me to do a windows fix since my windows is unable to start. Then, the windows open into desktop and i was able to surf the net as normal. I thought wow finally my comp recovered. But i was wrong. THE SAME update appeared on the shut down button. I got no choice but to press it again and the whole problem repeats. Why is there repeat update of the same thing? And it seems like its the update which caused the problem. I just cant use the comp now.... HELP :(

Answer:Win7 wont load after shut down during update

Do a repair/system restore (again). If you can get to the same point again, instead of shutting down, click the start orb then type 'update' (without the quotes) and select Windows Update. click on 'Change Settings' and select "Download Updates but let me decide whether to install them", click OK and then review the available updates and see if you can tell what the problem is.You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

This is not a reply.
I am having the same problem but with a bit more info.
This is on a neighbors HP a6200la desktop with Vista Basic.
I do not know the SP level.
It was running slow so I cleaned out some unneeded programs that were starting with Autoruns.
To do that I ran Autoruns in admin mode.
Did that, rebooted and all was fine.
Windows update kicked in and I looked at a bunch of updates including IE8 and Net Framework 3.5.
I selected 2 and installed them. No problem.
Went to shut down and Update started installing other updates.
It now says installing update 3 at 0%.
After 30 seconds it says shutting down the PC and restarts.
Ran chkdsk, ran clean.
Will not come up in any mode. Tried last know good config.
Have a bunch of useless HP options which will happily wipe out all data on the hard drive and restore Vista from the recovery partition, but tha tis a last resort.
Backed up the overwrote default, sam, security, software, system in the Windows/System32/config folder, which I had saved with ERUNT before beginning work on this PC and tried to load. Vista detected the change and reloaded the registry it had saved during the update.
If I can disable that "feature" I could put the registry back to what it was before the updates which hopefully would get Vista running again.
Ideas how to do that?

In safe mode crcdisk.sys is the last file shown loading (which it always is) then it tries to load the update, fails and restarts.

Hi after giving my Laptop a clean install the only problem I have is with Skype.
Tried several times it down loads but wont open correctly.
I have tried the latest version and 5.5 but still wont open correctly.
each time I delete skype I use Revo uninstaller.
clicking on the icon or in programs all I get is a blue screen with a cloud it has, Skype Tools and Help.
In help I can log into my account but the Icon in the tray says not logged on.
In Tools the box is ticked for Ports 80 and 443.
I have switched the fire wall off and it makes no difference.
Tried down loading with IE and FF
Its worked OK for the past three years and its working on my desktop now so no problems with Skyp in its self

Hey everybody. A little while ago, I updated my Dell XPS M1530 laptop NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS graphics card and the next day, the display was all blue with horizontal lines going through it. There was sound, but that's all what I was seeing. I turned it on and off again and again but to no avail. I left it on for a while and then suddenly the display cleared up and the Start up repair screen was on and it stayed that way for 12 hours so I turned it off and then on again( bear with me here lol). The BIOS screen appeared so did the OS loading screen later but that was about it. The screen was black. Safe mode wont work, it always stops at :\Windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sysSystem restore wont work also, it just freezes, Startup repair apparently freezes too, it keeps loading for 12 hours with no change. Im reallly confused and I don't know what to do. Last known configuration doesn't work either. Im trying to avoid using the Factory Image Restore since I have so many important files that I dont want to delete. I really appreaciate any help over here guys. Thanks =)

Hi, I am new here.

I am trying to start my computer but I keep getting a black screen message. I have a Sony Vaio laptop.

The message I receive is below:

"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click [Next]
3. Click [Repair your computer]

If you do not have this disk, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

File: \Boot\BCD

Status: 0xc000000f

Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data."

Any help would be much appreciated.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A135-S2266. I turned off one night and the next day when I went to turn on again a small blue box with white letters saying enter password shows up. I never gave it a password. I tried to go to safemode and could not. Tried to reload the O/S and when I go to setup to change boot sequence, so I could use disk that came with computer, it continues to ask for for password.

Answer:Vista wont load, don't know password.

Backstory (skip if you need)
I'm fixing someones laptop, It was slow and taking 30 minutes to startup, i did the usually virus scan and restarted, then it was stuck in an auto repair loop. I used a windows 8 Install CD from microscoft. None of the options in it would work, install (key doesnt match) reset (missing partition), image recovery (cant find an image), restore (no restore point), etc.

Used command prompt, did stuff like bootrec, bcdedit, diskpart, and chkdsk. After it ran chkdsk it finally loaded windows. I reset/reinstalled the OS completely. Fixed, restarted, running smooth. Owner said it was working great for a day, then after turning it back on it was in an auto repair loop.

Now
It's stuck in a preair loop, I can't even boot from the 8 CD! Have it configured in the bios, it shows the the blue windows logo then the screen goes black for 3 minutes and a blue screen flashes for 1 second saying  "Your PC ran into a problem and need to restart. Collecting some info (0% complete) search online for error: 0x000021a"

The weird thing is, Windows 7 disks boot fine, but it's "not compatible". And if I physically remove the HDD, it will boot into the windows 8 CD. So I put the HDD back in (while still at the command prompt) and it wont take my commands in related to the C: . I get a "System cannot find the drive specified"

I also tried hooking upp the HDD to my PC SATA, it shows in explorer, but just right clicking it crashes explorer.exe. D... Read more

Answer:Windows wont load, Boot CD wont load, Automatic Repair Loop

UPDATE:

I got a windows 8.1 disk made and it allowed me yo boot from the CD, but it's SLOOOOW, it takes minutes to load reset or w.e (none of them still work), or open the command prompt.

I ran chkdsk /f /r /x but it didnt help. chkdsk /r ends with:
"A disk read error occurredcc0000185
Insufficient disk space to fix the Usn Journal $J data stream."

Before when I ran it, I'm pretty sure it let me restart and booted into windows, not now.

Next I tried bootrec.
/fixmbr - succesful
/fixboot - succesfull
/rebuildBCD - Total identified Windows installations: 0
/scanOS - Total identified Windows installations: 0

Next bcdedit
Nothing worked "The boot configuration data store could not be opened. The requested system device cannot be found."

Next sfc /scannow
"There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart Windows and run sfc again."
Then sfc /SCANNOW /OFFBOOTDIR=c:\ /OFFWINDIR=d:\Windows
"Windows resources protection didnt find integrity violations"

BCDBoot c:\WindowsFailure when attempting to copy boot files

Next diskpart - but I forgot what I did before that may have worked. All i can remember is I had to select a disk or volume, and do something with it.

Alright i have a gateway laptop not too old at all. Running Vista home Prem. The back story is it froze and i hard reset it, upon restart it started to freeze on the green bar screen and wouldn't go past. Using a recovery partiton on the harddrive placed on there by gateway i attempted 3 times to restore the laptop to factory state, i got as far as the vista initial setup and it wouldnt go back to the desktop. Again it crashed doing the same green bar issues. Finally using a disc i found i deleted the partition and reinstalled vista, leaving the recovery section alone again. But it ran fine i thought i was in the good, so i started to try to get the drivers back, i installed the drivers for the webcam, touchpad, and video card. All were retrieved from the gateway support website. It crashed again the same green bar screen and not going past it. Now the issue, using F8 to get to the advanced boot screen none of the options do anything but send me back to the green bar starting the wait for nothing to happen again. i Also attempted to do a factory state repair with that recovery partition, but it sends me to the green bar. Same thing occurs wif i attempt to use the disc to just install vista, it prompts to press any key to load from cd/dvd i do so it says windows loading files loads for a good 3 mins, then just sends me to the green bar again. Also i cannot access the command prompt or i would attempt to delete the partition again. I cant figure out whats wrong and i know as f... Read more

I have a HP computer the motherboard died on me and i swaped out for a new one but the windows vista os doesnt seem to be working properly i tried to repair but it could not fix the issue, it says that the winload.exe is missing or corrupt, i tried my original recover disk but apperntly it only works for the HDD n motherboard that came with it, when i tried loading them it says this PC does not support this version, i wasw ondering if i bought a new vista OS and install it on there will it overwrite and fix this problem, or is it compatiblilty issues between the HDD and Motherboard

Answer:Vista wont load after Swapped HP Motherboards

Howdy,It is very rare that there are problems between the HDD and motherboard. Yes, I would say that If you did a clean install, it would fix your issue. Just make sure that during setup, you do not select the 'Upgrade' option, and do a custom install instead. When you get to the window asking for where to install, click on the hard drive and click 'Format'. This will wipe your drive and get rid of any bad sectors or stubborn files.Let me know how you go!Matt

So i installed vista (and it was very slow because of AHCI mode or whatever) and at the last step it was going very slow and lagging
We restarted the computer and now i get the message
"The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "Ok" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation."
I built my own comp and pretty sure all the parts are compatible and compat with vista and windows 7
So ive tried various vista recoveries and programs to wipe my hard drive but none of them actually ever boot
When im stuck at the screen with the error message i can open the cmd box

When you say that they wont boot. Are you referring to the HDD tools or the

okay heres the whole story, i have no clue if the first part matters but im going to tell you it anyway.

yesterday i installed windows 7 it works great, and that's actually what i'm on now because vista wont load. so anyway, after having my laptop multi-boot with vista and windows 7 i was looking around the Microsoft website and relized that vista service pack 2 is out. i installed it it worked fine besides it was in classic mode and my personalization thing wouldn't load, (i know, i know, that's from vistaglazz) so i decided to restore my laptop to before i downloaded service pack 2. now that worked all fine and my old theme was back, i unpatched the theme things by putting the original .dll's and other files back. so now i thought i could try to install service pack 2 without a problem now, wrong. it did the same classic view and the personalization crashing stuff, so once again i tried to restore my laptop to before i downloaded service pack 2, it worked all fine until i went to start my laptop back up. it just stopped right before you have to type in your password to log into vista and says "please wait..." then after like a minute or two the screen goes black with a little underscore in the top left hand corner of the screen. then goes to the "please wait..." message again. i thought "Oh maybe i can just restart my laptop and it will be fine, nope. i restarted it a few times and it did the same thing, but i have no problem loading into windows ... Hi guys, I am having a problem with my PC and wondered if anyone could throw some ideas at me.

Yesterday I was playing a game and the graphics went a little funny, bits missing, strange colours, and then my pc crashed. I tried to reboot and I get the vista loading bar and then the screen goes blank, and I get nothing.

However, if I remove the nvidia drivers and use standard vga drivers vista will boot fine.

I have tried a vista reinstall and it still happens. Im thinking the card over heated and screwed itself up, but its not overclocked and clean of dust so shouldnt have done that :S

PC details are:
Vista 64 Utlimate
EVGA Nvidia 9800gx2 GFX card
EVGA 790i Ultra Motherbaord
Intel QX9650 CPU
4Gb OCZ DDR3-1333 Ram

Any ideas would be very much appreciated

Thanks

Answer:Vista wont load with nvidia drivers

Hi

What I would try is to do a cleanout of any nvidia drivers, so download and install Driver Sweeper (BUT do not run it yet) download the lastest driver version for your graphic card BUT dont install yet.

Use Add/Remove and unsinstall your Nvidia Graphics Driver, then reboot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot) and then run Driver Sweeper to remove any Nvidia Graphics and Physx driver.

Then install the Nvidia driver you downloaded earlier and once installed if not prompted to reboot, reboot into normal mode.

Hello,

I have a compaq presario with vista basic that won't load. When starting it dosen't find the boot record and asks for a boot record.  I have tried recovery with no luck.  I have dismounted the c: drive and ran virus scan and chkdsk from another computer and nothing found.  This started with the desktop not turning on. I thought I had a bad power supply, but after resetting cmos by removing the battery and then reseating the memory stick the power returned.

One other symptom after running chkdsk I tried to change the drive with the cd command and it won't access the drive

Hope you can help

Thank you.

Answer:vista boot record wont load

Boot your Vista recovery disc and Choose Repair then once on System Recovery Option, choose command prompt. In cmd prompt type
bootrec /fixmbr <- Note the space after bootrec. Enter

This should be done while the hard drive is connected to the compaq computer itself.

Ok, heres what happened:

Vista got stuck on the loading splash screen with the green bar moving along the bottom. Left it for 15 minutes & didnt budge.
Reset the PC & tried again - same thing.

So, I booted of a recovery disk & ran CHKDSK /R.
Found a few errors & repaired them & rebooted.

Now, Vista didnt boot at all & i just got the message:
'Operating System Missing'

So, I booted from a Vista disk (Ultimate)
Chose repair but was greeted with an empty 'System Recovery Options' box.
Clicked next anyway & got to the repair menu.
Select 'Startup Repair' & it went off on its merry way for about 3 minutes but then reported back that there wasnt any operating system to repair.

So, went back to the repair menu & went opened up the Command Prompt.
Went through the usual boot repair methods:

bootrec /fixmbr

bootrec /fixboot

I've ran the 'start up repair' a few times and ran the memory thing.

I had to update my bios & it seems that the wrong one was downloaded about 3% into installing the laptop just died & won't go back on.

There are no lights & there is no noise from the laptop at all.

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

The laptop is a Toshiba satelite L300D.

Answer:Toshiba l300D wont load up after bios update fail

It doesn't sound like it is fixable on your end. Flash BIOSes that go bad, leave you with a doorstop. You'll hear the statement, "I bricked my computer". This means you turned your device into a brick also known as a doorstop.

You might want to post at a good BIOS site
http://www.wimsbios.com/forum/

People do send bricked computers off, have the BIOS chip desoldered and a new one soldered on. You might be able to get information on that type of service.

Maybe if you contact Toshiba, they will be able to tell you of some companies that do this.

HI

An annoying little issue.

The about a 5 days ago when i switched on my desktop it went to the RM splash screen as normal and sat there for ages before finally giving a beep and going back to the bios screen. It displayed all the drives as detected then at the botom said

Error 108
press (f4) for setup.

I went all through the bios and could find nothing wrong. Hit exit and got the following.

RM splash screen for ages then a black screen with (Video not supported) on the monitor.

After switching off i waited a little and powered on again and this time got a normal start up into windows.

However this has started happening every time i try to switch it on.

boot > RM splash screen for ages > beep > drives as detected then at the botom

Error 108
press (f4) for setup.

I have tried removing 2 blocks of memory and switching but this does nothing.

I can find no information on an this type of error 108 does anyone have any ideas?
What info do you need?

It is an intel micro Motherboard (can find out model)

Thanks in advance.

I purchased a new computer a little over a week ago, and installed a new copy of Vista on a new hard drive. Ever since, I've been having nothing but problems trying to get Vista to actually work and run stable. The system will usually run great for a day or two, then I'll get all these random errors out of nowhere, taking forever to start up, being stuck on "Configuring Update" screens, countless blue screen errors, or start up errors (corrupt files, failed to shut down, etc). I've had my system restore points dissapear. When I'd run Vista disk to do a start up repair, my HD would no longer show up as it use to before. Basically, I've reformatted and reinstalled Vista 4 times. I came across a fix for the "Configuring Updates" problem, which was the first problem I came across. Now, every time I reformat Vista, I make sure to turn Automatic Updates to inform me when I need updates, but not to download/update it automatically, I'll just do it manually. However, one fix leads to another problem, and I'm really at a loss on what to do.

I just reformatted for the 4th time yesterday. A clean install, installed my motherboard and videocard drivers, downloaded and installed SP1 (I came across a couple of blue screen errors supposedly, I wasn't around when they happened, just saw a box telling me they occured). I have Automatic Update turned to inform me, but not to automatically download and install updates. I installed Avast antivirus, Ad Aware, a PC videogame, ... Read more

Answer:Vista wont load (stuck on black screen)

Bump. I guess I'm just going to end up reformatting again, I don't know what to do. Trying to access anything else (regular start up, safe mode start up, vista disk system repair, etc) all just seem to get stuck on a black screen or take forever, and as I said, I really have no idea if the computer is actually doing anything, or if it's just stuck. Is there a guide I should be looking for, to give me any ideas of how to run a stable Vista? If I reformat this again, everything will be fine and dandy for a day or two, then the problems will start rolling in. I don't know how to prepare for or combat this.

Hi

I have a LG R500 running windows Vista home premium it was also the originally installed OS and came pre installed on the system and has never been re-installed.
I belive it is 32 bit and is almost 3 years old and is running the factory power supply LG 90 W.
Im not sure about the CPU, Video card, or the motherboard.

What is going on is when I turn the computer on the microsoft Corp loading screen comes on then the blue screen of death (or at least that what I think it is) flashes for a split second to fast to read it then I go straight to Windows Error Recovery screen. If you try to start it up normally again the same error occurs. I have launched the startup repair and it tells me Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically. So I have tried everything in the system recovery options except for the command prompt becasue I am unfamiliar with it. This error occurs in safe mode as well. I have not tried any of the other options except safe mode as I am unsure of them.

On another note I was having problems with the computer freezing prior to this but after a couple days of updating and virus scans I felt I had it fixed and seemed to be working properly for about a week. In this time windows was telling me I was having a problem with an intel driver and when I tried to download and intall the new driver as recomended by windows couldnt get it to work but seemed that the computer was fixed without it. When this problem was occuring it seemed to be w... Read more

I hope this is the right forum for this problem but currently my computer will not start at all or progress into Windows. As such i can only access F2 and F12 for setup and boot options but I cannot get into F8 safe mode.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530S 64 bit system with Vista home edition installed. Everything was working fine until i encountered a windows explorer crashing and restarting loop due to a thumbnail on a folder located on my desktop. I have experienced this problem before in a sub folder and was able to stop the problem but changing off thumbnails and deleting the problem file. This was the first time i encountered it on the desktop. Consequently when the computer loaded, the folder would load thus initiating the cycle and locking me out from any operations to the point where i could only manually turn off the computer. Thinking i could solve it, i decided to take the hard drive out and install it as a secondary drive to delete the problem folder. I did so on an identical Dell Inspiron 530S 64 bit computer with Vista that i have access to. I was able to delete the folder when when i reinstalled the hard drive Windows wont load as described above. I double checked the the hard drive doesnt have a problem being recognized as a drive with all my info on it but windows wont load when used as a primary drive now.

I hope you can provide some assistance. I do not have any windows vista recovery disks to try but i did run a quick diagnostic from the utility par... Read more

First, wanna say hi to everyone. Loving the forum.

My problem:

I upgraded today from XP Home to XP Pro.
When the system rebooted I get this error "Not enough resources exist to complete the API". Then it restarts again.

I really dont want to lose the info I have on my harddrive.

Any ideas on how to fix this.

BTW... when I bootup in Safe Mode, it starts listing the commands and it stops on "btkrnl.sys"... then it starts to load the Safe Mode screen and reboots.

Any help would be very appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:XP Pro wont load after upgrade - API error

To recover the data, I'd suggest you consider something like the Ultimate Boot CD to recover any data on the hard disk before doing any more attempts to fix the O/S.

I'd then do a clean install of XP, upgrades of any sort are always less desirable than a fresh installation.

Press F8 repeatedly after you turn on your PC and the Advanced Startup Options menu appears. Choose Safe Mode. Your PC may start and you restore your PC to an earlier time when it worked. Or choose Safe Mode Command Prompt and navigate to C:\Windows\System32\rstrui.exe to start the Restore utility. I assume Windows is installed to C:\WindowsRegardsSuatCINI

Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop. XP Pro. 2GB RAM. Getting some sort of graphics error. I went through my processes this morning and found a trojan(sqlserver.exe) and ended the other programs that I knew didnt need to be running. Must of ended the wrong one...

It starts fine and right before its supposed to load the desktop the screen goes black and I get a LoginUI.exe winlogon.exe error. OK to terminate, cancel to debug. Then it goes to blue screen and says Windows load process error and I have to manually shut it down. I can go into safe mode(which is how im typing this)

Tried doing system restore back to yesterday but same problem. Going to try it again and try to back a little bit further. Did a Diagnostic test and it passed everyone but the Graphics one and said error. ATI Mobility Radeon X300 display adaptor.

Heres a screenshot from a few weeks ago showing what was going on with it. Main reason I went through the processes was because my CPU usage kept spiking. Got it down to 27 or 28 processes this morning and now this problem

Answer:XP - Desktop Wont Load, Graphics Error

JEEEZ!!! That's alot of running processes! WOW! Click Start > Run and type msconfig and click the Startup tab and start unchecking things. You can probably select 'Disable All'. If you still have a problem, go into the Device Manager and right click the Display Adapter and select Remove (be sure to download a new video driver first, but don't install it yet). Doing this will 'force' Windows to look for and install a replacement video driver the next time you boot up. So, after removing the Display Adapter, boot up in normal mode. Cancel the hardware wizard when it starts, then run the video driver install and reboot when done. Hopefully that will do it. You can then re-enable some of the items you unchecked in the msconfig startup list if you need them, but chances are, you really don't need all those things running in the background at all times, just the antivirus and other security programs, and that's about it. From looking at your processes, it looks like you have several wifi configurators running; you don't any. WinXP has wifi connectivity built-in. The process named 'WM-Desktop-Alert' is most likely a virus or "rogue-ware" (a fake antimalware program that looks legit but is actually a virus).

Alright so after trying to get some external hard drives to show up on my desktop and having that fail I did a restart to try starting fresh. When I restarted I ended up with a BOOTMGR missing error, after trying for ages to get the Windows 7 dvd I have to boot up while getting the error 'BOOTMGR missiing press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart', I finally got my computer to allow me to boot from the DVD.
Now when I do press a button to boot from the DVD my computer it shows that 'Windows is loading files...' message, and the bar loads up all the way. It then changes to the now loading windows screen with the animation and all but its what happens after this that has become the next problem.
The bar will load and then after a bit it pops up into a desktop style screen with a background and my cursor on the screen but nothing else. I thought at first it was still loading up the options screen so I could click repair computer, but it stays there. It has been stuck on this screen for around 20min now without any loading circle showing up next to the cursor or my dvd drive making noise (it went silent after the background and cursor loaded).
So does anyone know whats going on with my computer? I dont even care about repairing the OS anymore I just want to do a full format but I cant even get the Windows 7 DVD to load the format/recovery page so I can do that.

Any help is extremely appreciated!

Answer:BOOTMGR error >> Recovery DVD wont load

Welcome to the forums and fill up your system specs

Yours is a desktop or a laptop ? It will be better if we could come to know the configuration . Anyway, can you remove the RAM, clean the edges and attach it again (with power cable unplugged from the source) and try the process again ?

It might be the RAM which is not functioning properly .

For the past few months the computer has been run only in safe mode. Initially the computer would boot in normal mode but after about 5 minutes all of the windows would say "not responding". So my computer as shown in my Sig is setup a little funky. In the first sata slot on the mobo technically is the 80 gig, and the second slot is the 640. However the 640 is the C: drive, and has windows installed on it. The 80 gig was just a cheap HDD to have extra space for.

Now however i am trying to swap out my empty 80gig HDD for my new 1TB HDD. I am having a problem though. So i pulled out the 80 gig hard drive (which i made sure was empty BTW) and put in the 1TB drive. When i restarted my computer, it said "Hard disk error, wont boot". I went into the bios, and put in the boot list my 640gb in first place (hard disk boot priority) so it should see the 640gb first when trying to boot a Hard drive. Same error, wouldnt boot.

I used Ubuntu Live USB to boot into ubuntu and i looked at the Hard drives, it shows the 1TB , and it shows the 640gb, which when i open has everything in it like it should, including windows.

Whats going on? How do i fix this? Is it bad to correct my original mistake and pull out both Hard drives, and plug in the 640gb into the first SATA slot so its seen as the first HDD? Or thats not good to do once you have a established computer?

Just to be clear, what i want it to be working as: 640gb C: drive with windows on it so it boots into windows. E: drive will be a 1TB hard drive.

Answer:disk boot error..wont load into windows HELP!

First off, pull the 1tb drive - leaving only the 640. Will the computer boot off of that one by itself? If you put the 80 back in, does it work again?

My guess is that the 80gb drive actually had the boot manager on it - and just pointed to your 640 to boot windows. If this is the case, you just need to get that onto your 640...

I'll go digging for instructions - I haven't had to repair something like this in awhile. I think the "recovery" built into windows can repair it (if you boot off of the dvd).... don't quote me on it yet though....

(similar post on Software and Apps forum)
I have written my own program that creates a .EXE file by modifying another .EXE file. The output file will not run. Intel's SDE program tells me it gets a system error 193.
If the tool changes nothing, but just writes back everything it finds in the input, then the output runs fine, and in fact the binary files are identical.
I have the tool making just a few changes. It lengthens the file size and virtual size of section # 4 (.data) by 1000x, and adds 1000x to the RVA of section # 5 (.rdata). It also adjusts the Relocations Data Directory pointer and the SizeOfImage in the image header. Otherwise the two files are identical.
But the output file doesn't load.
I also tried setting the output Checksum and SizeOfCode fields to 0 without changing anything else, and it runs successfully. So these fields are apparently not the cause of the problem.

DO YOU KNOW a way or a tool to tell me what's wrong with my output .EXE??

If you would like to analyze the files yourself, please tell me how to package the .EXEs as an attachment for you.

Thanks.

Answer:Analyze why EXE file (that I created myself) wont load (sys error 193)

I know why the EXE failed to load now. However, I want to leave this thread open because (1) it may be of interest to some later linker developer, and (2) I hope somebody will point to where the violated requirement is documented.

I found out that the problem was that I had the first section starting at RVA = 2000x, rather than the usual 1000x produced by the microsoft and gnu linkers.

There was another problem I discovered. As documented in the PE spec, sections have to be consecutive and adjacent. The pages occupied by a section go up to the page containing the last byte, as given by the size in memory of the section header. I tried placing a 1000x gap between two of the sections, and it failed to load. Instead, if I made the first of these sections 1000x longer, then it worked fine.

The difference between making the first section 1000x longer, and starting the first section 1000x later, was that the latter case failed to load. In both cases I correctly adjusted the entry point address, the image size, and the relocations directory.

So please, if you know where it is documented that the first section starts at 1000x, or better, a complete specification of what an EXE file requires in order to be loadable, ... then please post it here, and also on my thread in the Software and Apps forum.

Hello everyone,

I've just returned from my vacation and my home pc won't load windows anymore.
The computer is a special custom build pc which allows you to switch your harddrive easily when it's turned off.

The problem: When starting pc in normal mode and it tries to load windows (shows black screen with the moving green dots) it will black out and reboot. This only occurs when I'm doing so with my own harddrive, the other works fine.

Possible cause: My mom tends to leave the pc in sleep mode and probably did so before we left on vacation. We had guests visiting our house who tried using the pc and switched to my harddrive instead of my mom's (while pc was still in sleep mode) when trying to start the pc afterwards the above described problem occurred.

I've tried to use start-up repair which fails and shows the following error.

Problem Event name: StartupRepairOffline
Problem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16385

Problem Signature 06: 8
Problem Signature 07: BadPatch
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1

I've also tried to use system restore to different restore points but it fails without succes.
It says that an unknown error has occurred with Error code 0x800703f9.

Thanks in advance for the help

See if you can boot to repair options
you create a recovery DVD, you may be able to boot to recovery options
Create Recovery DVD

The Vista recovery disk is used to boot Vista when it won't boot - to run Startup Repair, System Restore, access a Command Line, Recover using a Vista Backup Image, etc.
System Recovery Options

If Vista will not start now, boot the Recovery CD to run Startup Repair which automates System Restore as well as numerous other tests including System File Checker which can repair system files which are not corrupted beyond repair.

If Vista still will not start, try booting into Safe Mode to run sfc /scannow to repair System files.

Startup Repair. Startup Repair is a Windows recovery tool that can fix certain problems, such as missing or damaged system files, that might prevent Windows from starting. Startup Repair is located on the System Recovery Options menu, which is on the Windows Vista installation disc. If your computer has preinstalled recovery options, it might also be stored on your computer's hard disk. Hi there - i appreciate anyone who can help me with this...I have a dell 9200 running windows vista. About 2 weeks ago, the whole thing crashed. I wouldnt boot up at all.  It would load the dell bios screen, but would stop loading after te "all rights reserved" screen, just before attempting to load my windows.Ive gone through 3 hard drives, as i run windows media center, but i was really pissed to see it crash all over again.I have all of the boot cds but i fear that my hard drive might be corrupted again. I dont care about recouping any of the info on my hard drive anymore, i just want to get it running again.  Ive gone through system settings, and tried to boot from my cds, but cant figure it out.  Should i put the "drivers and utilities" cd in first and try to boot from cd. Or the windows vista cd? Ive tried tons of variations, and no luck.I just want to wipe my hard drive completely (provided it still works) and reinstall everything, but i can get past the system setup in the dell bios screen. Ive even unplugged my hard drive, (so that it would actually reach the system setup without freezing), but i cant seem to get to a point where i can actually wipe my hard drive. I have memory sticks, all the cds, blank dvds, etc....  I just really need help.Im writing this from my ipad (thank god).I would appreciate any help i can get guys - thank you tons

Answer:Restarting my entire corrupt dell 9200 pc - Wont load windows vista

You computer looks a lot like mine. But mine is older. My personal experience with my Dell laptop E1705 is the hard drive went dead when the machine overheated doing a transfer of video files to my home server. My shop is not air conditioned and the laptop could not take the heat.   So from now on the Laptop stays in the house. Even the router in the barn has to have a fan on it!Anyway, I recommend you get a replacement hard drive. Don't try to use a failing drive as a system drive. High risk of annoyance and irritation.I found a decent  SATA drive with 320GB for about $44 on Amazon. So far, it works good. To date I have not got recovery of even a bit of data from the dead drive. Had to use month old backups to get my stuff back. Lost of month of notes I made.I am now making backups more often. Or at least sync my documents to the remote machine in the barn.  I use an external USB for an image backup. With this Dell laptop image backup is the only way to go. It will not clone directly to an external drive. I have to do image and restore.Get a replacement drive, start over. Maybe get some of your stuff off the old drive before it fails  all the way.

Hi,

get a status error come up when the laptop is turned on. The error code is 0xcoooooe9, windows does not load up and the diagnostics tool does not work.

Tried to recover to factory settings but this crashed out saying partition could not be created and only had an option to turn the laptop off.

Was bought from argos's ebay store less than 12 months ago and should still be under warranty but can not find out if it is on here.

Any help please ??

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what the problem is but maybe HDD make problems.
I recommend you to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. They can check it.

At first clarify the warranty and I hope they will fix it for free.

I've got a Dell Dimension 8300 which came with XP pro.
After a HD crash in March, when I replaced the drive, and since I got it for free because I'd participated in the Beta testing, I installed VISTA Ultimate on the new HD.

However, what everyone and anyone failed to mention in this process was that you have to check to see if you're using the latest BIOS before installing VISTA.

"edward" from Microsoft said that all my problems concerning the system just freezing intermittently (requiring a hard reset every time) are because I need to update the BIOS (he gleaned this from MSINFO32 which he had me send to him.)

So I found a later version of the BIOS for this computer. However, Vista will not allow me to run it.

I continually get a message which says "Flash Access Denied....make sure you're logged in as an administrator" Which I am.
I tried going to the CMD "run as administrator" as well.

I tried turning off all the UAC controls from secpol.msc.

None of it works.

I just want to update the BIOS.

Edward then said...it's not gonna happen with Vista running PERIOD becuase it was supposed to be done prior to loading Vista.

I used the backup utility and have all non windows files backed up on another drive.
MS sent me a new XP SP2 disk with a new license key.

I wanted to install it on a different hard drive, however, Vista won't allow me to do that either.

Is there a way to use the command prompt to force the CD to l... Read more

Answer:Need to load XP just to update BIOS in VISTA

If it was meant to run XP, then that may the reason Vista is freezing. I tried Vista once and it also freezed alot. I blame it on the older hardware, just like your Dell cam with XP.

My partner has a Dell Studio 1535 laptop. She just downloaded the latest Windows update. When she restarted the computer it took her to a black screen with a single line of white text indicating that various files were installing. It suddenly stopped at 430 of 49073 files with a message "!! 0xc0190036 !! 430/49073 (mfc42u.dll)" The computer is just hanging. If I power it off and restart it gives the option of a startup repair or to start normally. Starting normally leads to the hanging message; a startup repair fails to identify the issue, other than suggesting maybe a device has recently been attached. This is not the case.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Answer:Windows Update and now Vista won't load

hello,

have you tried starting in safe mode? if it does you can use system restore, or just uninstall the last update....(start tapping the f8 key after hitting the power button)

good luck

Hi All,

I was using my laptop last night (Dell Vostro 1710 and using Windows Vista), using only internet via firefox and the steam application, and had no problems prior to switching it off before I went to bed.

Got up this morning, switched on the computer and after loading past the 'Dell' logo it would not load any further.

I am pretty limited with my computer knowledge but have followed some online sites (mainly via Dell and Microsft) which have so far failed to help. I have carried out the following:

Start up Repair - says that the problem may not be fixed automatically and to contact either the computer manufacturer or system administrator. There is only 1 user on the computer so should be no administrator issues. I am currently in Thailand so support via Dell will be very limited or v. expensive (and from what I have read on-line they will recommend that the steps below are followed prior to doing a whole restore of factory settings).

I have attempted a System Restore of various points but receive the following message:
system restore failed due to an unspecified error. The requested operation was made in the context of a transaction that is no longer active

I see from the list of previous available system restore points that a windows update occurred sometime between me switching the computer off and turning it back on this morning. Surely this has to be the problem.

The option to repair OS(C) has also popped up. I have 'ok'd' this, then... Read more

Yesturday my vista was working great, and on the screen as i went to shut it down said "updating files do not shut down computer 3/3 100%" but it stayed like that for 4 hours, so i turn it off manualy once i turned it back on the next day it asked me for my password i put it in and as it was loading it was vey slow and would take 5-6 minutes for programs to load up.

Also when i go to click on like my internet it dont work, not even my games work, they try to load then freeze. So i did a scan on it and its still having this problem. After i got frustrated i went to shut it down again and it says "logging off" but stays like that for hours, so i have to manualy turn it off. Now with internet issue, it works in safe mode with connection, but not in my normal screen. WHY IS THIS DOING THIS?

I am using Vista 64 bit. It seems that it has suddenly lost the wuapp. I have tried to open it from the control panel>system maintenance>windows update.
All I am able to get is "The page failed to load".
I have also tried to open it directly from computer>hp
C : >windows>system 32
with the same result.
With out this I am unable to see the updates for my system. I have even tried to look at the Microsoft website and find nothing there.

Answer:Vista Update - The page failed to load

Do you have any Stardock programs installed? Alot of people report this problem after installing Stardock especially the Stardock application My Colors. Also have you installed any other browsers besides IE. Could be a number of things disrupting the Windows Update

Windows Vista update page will not load with information or work.
When I launch windows update in vista the page comes up blank. It gives the appearance that it is still loading. The only way to get rid of the blank page is in "start task Manager". In Task Manager it (windows update) is shown as running. There are no error messages.

If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First.

PC info from another thread: http://forums.techguy.org/windows-xp/1014881-media-center-not-working.html#post8088791

The other day, a blue screen error appeared on my PC about ati2dvag/infinite loop. I looked online for help and came across a number of different forums. Most of the responses stated that possibly my driver needed updating.

From looking at the Display Driver in the Device Manager, I was able to see that I have an ATI Radeon X1550. I went to the amd website to update my driver and whilst doing so, I got a message saying it couldnt locate a specific file. Then the installation wizard appeared and I followed the steps but then I got a message stating that the one I have installed is not digitally signed and it could affect the performance. I had no idea what this meant but the warning message put me off so I cancelled it.

I then tried to open Media Centre but I was unable to watch live TV because I kept getting an error message the video card had an error or was not installed properly so I went back to the Device Manager and the icon on the first drive indicated the device had been disabled (red x) and the second driver indicated the device wasnt responding/working properly (exclamation mark in a yellow triangle) so I reinserted the installation CD and opened setup. It was successful so I tried to open MC again but I got another blue screen error.

When I tried to start Windows again, my PC was extremely slow. The icons that appear in the lower tray on the right... Read more
