When I turn on the computer, the screen just goes black but the computer is on!

Question: When I turn on the computer, the screen just goes black but the computer is on!

My computer is maybe 2 years old, and this problem only starting occuring recently. I turn on the computer and all is well until it gets to my desktop when the screen just goes black. I tried blowing the dust out and my computer worked again for a couple of hours, but now blowing the dust out doesn't work. I can login to safe mode, but I cannot get into my regular settings. What do I do to fix this!!

Preferred Solution: When I turn on the computer, the screen just goes black but the computer is on!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My computer was dusty and may have been overheating. The fans were operating very loudly and i tried to turn on the screen but it is black. I cleaned the dust, and it still will not bring anything up on the screen. The fans work and i can hear the drives working. I tried changing the psu, cleaning the heatsink, and reseating everything. and removed the battery and put it back in to reset the bios. Nothing has worked so far. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated? Is it possible that i fried my motherboard or processor?

My computer that i own isn't working properly. Firstly, its about 4-5 years old the power button gets stuck. I've been fiddling with it from the outside to come out all the way since if it goes in all the way and doesnt come out, it keeps restarting. When i wiggle it out, it starts and goes.

Now onto my problem now. When i start up my computer, a screen pops up allowing me to press F1 for setup. if i don't click F1, my computer goes to a black screen with a _ blinking in the top right. I can't do anything from that point and when i press keys too many times, it starts beeping after i hit any key again.

Anyways if you guys could help me, I would be very thankful!

Answer:Turn on my computer, black screen

sounds like it may be time for an upgrade

have you made any hardware changes or installed new device drivers?

from what you describe it seems like the system is having some issues booting the operating system from the hard drive, or there could be another hardware fault causing the hangup... like the memory or motherboard itself. if you are able to view the POST screen upon startup (which displays all of the system information and keys to access BIOS etc...) then you may be able to boot from a CD-ROM to run repairs or possibly boot into safe mode by repeatedly striking the F8 key after the POST screen appears.

I turn on my computer, it begans to start up, and then the moniter just goes black and won't show the desktop or anything. It has done this every day for the past week or more and it's getting harder and harder to get onto the computer. What I do is turn the moniter on/off until it shows me a glimpse of the desktop, and then I mess with the screen saver power options (while it continues to keep going black and I have to turn the moniter on and off to get glimpes of what i'm doing), and eventually it just stops going black and works for the whole rest of the day until the next morning. I checked the FAQs and I heard people with the same situation mention video cards, but I'm not that great with computers and frankly I don't even know what that is. Help?

So I got a hp pavilion tx510us entertainment notebook (runs Vista) and it seems to turn on (like all the lights are on and it makes noises) but the screen is black/blank or whatever. And its not just a blank screen because then I would have been able to put my pass in and then hear the turn on music and stuff. The thing is this happened before when it was still under warranty so I sent it in for free and they sent it back and it turned on and it still had on all my stuff so it must have been an easy enough solution, but when I chatted with them again I guess they don't keep track of what they did to it and they want me to send it in again and that would cost a large sum of money because its no longer under warranty. I did a hard reset a few times and took out the memory module and put it back in agian but still nothing. So, anyone have any ideas?

HI,
My problem started back when i tried to install windows 7 on another disk, but it would not. Now i did this while my primary windows 7 hard drive was already istalled. after i gave up on trying to get windows to install onto this secondary hard drive, i rebooted the computer to find that my primary ssd would not load windows, and simple came to a black screen that said:

Remove disks or other media.
Press any key to restart

then i would press a key and it would say:

Reboot and select proper boot device
or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key.

I have no recovery disk and most definitely do not understand what remove disks or other media means because I removed the windows installer dis and tried again but nothing happened. Please help, i am so confused, thankyou.

i am using my laptop to report this.cause i can't use the one with the black screen.HELP!!!!!! when it first comes on its like it tries to start but just stays black.can it be fixed or do i have to buy a new screen?(i'm not sure if its called the screen or the monitor.i just know that when i turn the tower on,there is no picture .

Answer:black screen after i turn my tower to my other computer on.r

If you do not see the message "No Signal" on the monitor screen, very likely it's the monitor itself which is faulty or "dead".To check if it is indeed the monitor which needs replacing, connect it to your laptop if possible (there should be a VGA port on one side of your laptop so you can connect the monitor using the same VGA cable that connects monitor to your PC). If the monitor does not work on your laptop either, you need a new monitor. However, if your tower is not starting up it won't be a faulty monitor. There is something wrong inside the tower. Get someone to check it over, maybe needs a new PSU (Power Supply Unit) which fits inside the tower.Do not rush out to buy a new monitor if the tower is not starting up as the problem will be inside the tower.message edited by phil22

My wifes laptop has developed a problem. On booting it starts with the "Windows starting " logo and then goes to a black screen and goes no further. It looks like the hard drive is still flashing away giving the impression that underneath it is still working but no picture. We want to use the repair disc that came with the laptop but because we cant see anything to shut the computer down via windows we are having to use the power button and therefore it prompts to start up again in safe mode because it was shut down unusually. We want to close it down completely and let the repair disc do its work on boot up from fresh start. Because we cant see anything on the screen to initiate shut down via windows is there another way of shutting down completely for the above reasons.
Also do I need to press f2 and tell the system boot from the cd (repair disc) or can I leave settings as is and it will do it automatically. Answers appreciated asap. Many thanks

Answer:How else do I turn off windows when computer has black screen.

On many laptops pressing and releasing the on/off button acts as a re-set but if you hold the power button down for 5 to 10 seconds the machine will turn off completely.

I was playing a game on my PC while it was storming out and the power surged. Before I could unplug my pc the power came back on and my computer started back up. After starting back up it said installing update do not turn off the computer. I waited until it was done then it brought me to a black screen with a Windows logo and a circular loading bar. I waited somewhere between 5-10minutes before holding down the power button until it turned off. Upon turning the computer back on all the fans would work and everything it would show the blue screen that says to press esc then brings me to a black screen where it would have a _ mark in the top left and beep non stop. It isnt a long beep or anything its just multiple beeps non stop until I turn it off. I have tried taking out the ram and putting it back in but it just keeps beeping. I did a mem test and it showed that nothin was wrong with the ram. The beeps are high pitched and very fast. I have a video showing what happens if there is a way to post it.

I've seen this problem posted a lot, but never with all of the same details as me.  I have Windows 8, but unsure if 64 or 32, I"m guessing 64.  I have a sealed battery, so I'm unable to remove the battery.   I rarely see my model number mentioned at all. I have turned the computer off and back on several times with peripherals removed.  Right now, it's on and open (so it's not asleep) and not plugged in.  All I can see and get is a black screen.  The caps light blinks now and again. I really would rather not reset and lose everthing, of course, who does?   What do I do?

Hi Guys,

I got a virus this morning and moved it to chest and then I restarted it, when it began to boot, it froze for about a minute at the boot screen then proceeded to load after this, so I shut it down and turned it back on and had to wait about a minute on the boot screen to get past it, it so I went into the bios and clicked the reset to optimized defaults incase it had a problem, so I saved it and exited.

The computer then booted it as it would do when i turn it on but now the screen stays black?

Anyone have any suggestions what to do? as its just black and I can't see anything to get into the bios or such?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Turn Computer On Screen Is Black After Bios Change?

Try unplugging the PC and removing the CMOS battery from the motherboard for 30-45 minutes. This will clear the BIOS settings.

Hope this helps.

power light comes on but the screen remains black there is no sound nor any flickers please help operating hp 2000 dual core windows 7 thank you very much!

Answer:turn on the computer and power light goes on but screen remains black

If this is a notebook PC, try connecting an external monitor to the VGA port. If the display comes up on the external monitor, it points to an issue with the screen.

If there is no display on an external monitor connected to a notebook PC, it points to an issue with the motherboard and will require a professional diagnosis.

Hope this helps.

Pretty much everything seems to have broken or failed on me this week and now the thing I need most, my computer, appears to have followed suit. When I turn it on it gives me the normal blue HP screen followed by the normal Windows XP startup screen and then...black. Nothing. I just put together my first computer 6 months ago. It abruply shutdow in the middle of writing a paper for school. I couldn't turn it back on right away. after trying a few times, it turned on. All the fans are working even the fan on the power supply, the motherboards lights are on. My graphic card in on the motherboard. I think it might be my power supply because when I first put it together I didn't plug in the smaller power connection to the motherboard and the same thing is happening, black screen. It's like my computer isn't giving my monitor any feed. I will have more info when I get home. I can't get in to bios or safe mode.

My computer was lagging and wasn't connecting to the internet properly, and then it froze so I shut it down. When I started it back up, the BIOS loaded but then went to a blank black screen with a mouse. I can move the mouse around. It won't load any further. I've tried all the safe modes and it does the same thing. And I tried cleaning all the dust off the computer. I've tried waiting at that screen for longer than 3 hours. It just stays there.

It's possible that it's a virus but I don't know. How can I solve this problem? Because I can't get into the computer to do a system restore. Please help, thank you!

Last night my computer was working perfectly fine with no indication of a problem. I come home the next day to turn it on, and of course nothing happens. It get's power but theres no picture on the monitor, it's black. So i try to turn the computer off and now it wont turn off, so i turned i turned off the powerstrip.

So i started with the most simple the cords and such, but everything is in the right place. I examined the monitor, but it was working fine. So i turned it back on to see if i could find something. In the long run i found nothing and i came to the conclusion it has it's probly my motherboard or something is wrong with my powersupply or even my cmos battery.

It's to tricky for me i just want to know where to start. The bios wont even load and i dont have spare parts laying around to test things out. the other thing is that power will only go on and not off. So i'm thinking about trying a new power supply first. If you have any idea's why i'm haveing this current problem please let me know.

I just got this HP pavilion 762n last year. Now whenever I turn the computer on it won't respond(Goes to a Blank Black Screen) and the only way I can make the computer respond is to go to safe mode and UN-install the Graphic Card, then restart the computer back again. Once I've done that the computer would work, but I can't watch Videos or play Video Games on the computer. There also would be these little blue lines on the computer screen (Sometimes their would be alot of the lines and sometimes the lines would be made by the trail of my mouse).

I've tried lots of ways to fix the computer. I've tried:

- Un-installing and re-installing my graphic card (Nvidia Geforce4 MX420 graphics card with TV-Out) that came with the computer.

- Rolling Back My Graphic Card.

- Updating My Drive from Windows Update.

- I've tried using a program that test my computer and tells me whats wrong with it. It said I got a problem with something like the VIDEO MEMORY CARD and I don't know what that is.

Is the Only way I can fix this is to buy another Graphic Card. I do not want to waste $200.00. Please Help Me!

Thank You.

So my computer recently started to do this: When I have a game going, after a while the computer will freeze for a couple of seconds, then the monitors turn black (i have two monitors) for a second and start again, but then the game hangs. I play games that are a bit demanding for example World of Warcraft.
What can be the problem here? Can it be that my CPU is too warm?
I'm new here, so I'm sorry if I'm in the wrong category.

This was difficult to summarize in the title because it does a series of things.

I've visited this site for many years but haven't posted before. I consider myself a relatively advanced computer user, but this problem has exhausted my diagnositic skills.

OS is XP pro. The computer is from the early Vista era, but I had them load XP instead when I bought it.

Because I am not constantly watching the computer, I don't have every step in the exact sequence. (I switch between two computers as I slowly transfer everything to the new one.) The problem happens when the computer has been running for at least a couple of days, as far as I can tell, so I can't simply recreate it at will. It has happened fairly regularly for the past month at least.

This can happen when few or no programs are running. I usually turn on that PC because there are a few things I still need, but once it started having this problem, it's rarely more than Skype and my email, sometimes only Skype or nothing. Lately, I've avoided opening a browser.

One of the first symptoms is some of the desktop icon text turns black instead of the normal white I selected. You can see that in the last photo. At that time, some text had re-appeared after missing for a while (clicking on the icons can sometimes bring back the text).

Eventually, text disappears from places like the title bars, list of email, etc. (not text in a document, but that would probably disappear too if I didn't cl... Read more

Answer:Desktop/windows items turn black, disappear, computer eventually freezes

Obviously something's not right with that computer, and I have to say it sounds like some kind of virus/malware.  I'd try booting that XP system to Safe Mode and doing scans with Malwarebytes and Avast.  Some viruses can hide in normal mode.  If that doesn't work, there're programs you can download from here ( http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/windows/ ) including AdwCleaner, Junkware Removal Tool, and TDSSKiller, but let's wait and see if the Safe Mode scans will help.

As you appear to know, MS dropped support for XP 4/8/14, so it's just going to become more and more susceptible to problems with time.  I assume you're copying things to that new computer to resolve that very thing.  If all you need is the data, you could always remove the hard drive, put it into an inexpensive enclosure (around $25 cost), and plug it into a USB port on the new computer.  You could also boot a Linux disc or flash drive on the old computer and do the copies that way.  Ubuntu, Mint, and Puppy versions are three that I'm familiar with and know to be easy to use.  You can read about and download a Ubuntu ISO file from here: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop .  You can then either burn it to a DVD or put it on a flash drive using the directions here: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows .

Good luck.

so, when I was on my computer it just randomly shut down on me.
No warning nothing.

when i tried to start it up again my computer turns on and the fans go on.
but my computer screen stays black.
the on button for the screen is flashing green meaning its on. i tried unconnecting and connecting the screen back to the computer...still nothing.

also, my keyboard doesnt light up, and my mouse (which is connected THROUGH the keyboard) turns half on (the wheel lights up, but the image doesnt light up). so i know there is electricity running through my keyboard.

can anyone explain/help me with this scenario? i've been trying at it for a couple of days now.
any sort of advise would be great (if you need any other info ill be more than welcome to provide anything to help you help me)

Answer:I can't get my computer screen to turn on, please help

Sounds to me like some kind of hardware failure. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what, but I would be inclined to say some type of Motherboard problem. If the fans spin up & devices get partial power.

Are you handy and comfortable working inside a computer? If not you might see what a technician can do with it.

Here's the deal:My mom gave me her old computer when it was about 2 years old. it was working fine except that sometime the screen wouldn't come on when you started up the computer. the lights and fan would start running and then the fan would turn off and the computer screen would stay black. well usually you could just wait a few minutes and it would start on it's own, now it won't turn on at all! the start light around the start button will come on and then fan will start like normal but before the screen will come on the fan will turn off and the screen will stay completely black but the start light will still be on. i have left it on for an entire day and still nothing. i really can't wipe the whole computer out because i have important information on it. i desperately need help. I am not good with fixing things and need to get my computer running before finals. i can get additional info if needed.any help would be amazing. Thanks.

Answer:My computer screen won't turn on!

I am wedded to the idea that your power supply is on the bonkers . There seems to be insufficient  power to the motherboard hence not enough to drive the display card. The lack of proper voltages result in the CPU resetting itself to off- mode hence stopping the fan and power supply. Much about the PC is diagnosis - sometimes right sometimes wrong - and swapping hardware that you know is good. Just borrow a good power supply and see what happens. While you're at it , take a peek at the capacitors on the motherboard...see if all the tops are flat...bulges will spell a headache !

When I turn on my computer it shows nothing but a blank screen. Doesn't even go into bios 19 out of 20 times. Every now and then it boots into BIOS and begins loading Windows, but freezes at the loading screen. What could the problem be? A couple months earlier the computer would randomly shut down while I was using it. I'm assuming the problem might be the probably the power supply. It's an emachine t3624: http://emachines.com/support/product_support.html?cat=Desktops&subcat=T Series&model=T3624#

And yes, I know I really need to upgrade to a new computer... but I have absolutely no money I can put towards buying one at the moment. It would take me at least a couple months to be able to afford even a cheap one....

I just got this HP pavilion 762n last year. Now whenever I turn the computer on it won't respond and the only way I can make the computer respond is to go to safe mode and Un-install the Graphic Card, then restart the computer back again. Once I've done that the computer would work, but I can't watch videos or play video games and their would be these little blue lines on the computer screen (Sometimes their would be alot of the lines and sometimes the lines would be made by the trail of my mouse).

I've tried lots of ways to fix the computer. I've tried doing a destructive recovery lots of time and it still wouldnt work. I have this program that test my computer and tells me what kinda problem my computer have and it said that the computer fail on the video memory test. I think the only way I can fix this is to buy another graphic card. Can anyone please tell me how to fix this problem?

Thank You.

Whenever I turn my computer on I get a black screen and it doesn't budge from there. My monitor just seems to go into sleep mode and I can't do anything. Also my dvd drive makes this horrible sound whenever I start up my computer so I swapped out the drive with another one I had around the house and it made the exact same noise. I even took out my hard drive to make sure that wasn't what was making the noise. I've never encountered such a strange problem before. I tested the optical drive in another computer and it doesn't make this noise. I just have no idea what could be causing it. Any suggestions?

Answer:Blank screen when I turn my computer on.

Since no one else will try this one I will have a go.

First if you have no picture, why are you playing with the dvd drive?

Graunching noises suggest fan problems. Either a fan is clogged up with dirt or catching on an internal cable or just wearing out. Check all these including your graphics card.

At best this is your problem and restarting the fan will restart your picture.

Next best option is the power supply failing, not providing proper power to dvd drive and graphics card. Check by substitution.

If this does not work you have cooked something, this could be any or all of, memory, processor, graphics card. Depending on the specs of your other pc you may be able to check these out, one at a time, by substitution.

Post the results and good luck

My HP All In One screen won't turn on. The power button's light comes and the AC adapter port light comes on. I've taken the back off to see if the fans worked, and they do, but the screen won't come on. I've detached all USB devices (mouse, keyboard, etc) and I emptied the CD ROM, to restart the computer. Didn't work. What can I do? Also, I noticed that when I pressed the caps lock on my keyboard the caps light doesn't come on. Help me please.

I recently put in an upgrade to my ram from 512 mb to 768 total Ram. I went to turn it on and I saw a spark where the P1 is at, and now the screen will not turn on, but my hard drive still turns on or runs? Did I short circuit my motherboard? could it be my video graphics card? any help on getting it back to working condition? thanks

Answer:My computer starts up but my screen will not turn on

Make sure you unplug mains lead after you shutdown. Remove the upgrade ram and try starting again. when you say "where the P1 is at" do you mean the power connector to the Mainboard?.

Could be a few things but i suspect you have blown a ram module or the PSU.

Every time I turn on my computer a blue screen appears saying all these error stuff! which gave an error code of wording of USB BUGCODE

What can I do get rid of it? Cause I need to use that computer as there are some files on it I need to access. But I cannot even do anything with the pc because every time I turn it on a blue screen appears.
Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Answer:help Keep getting blue screen when I turn computer on

ok, first that error code should have a bunch of numbers. Those numbers are important for looking up the actual cause of the error. USB BUGCODE seems, and I'm not sure of this, seems to indicate a possible error with a usb port or device. Do you have any usb devices plugged in when you try to boot up? You might try unplugging any one at a time for each boot up. Without the numbers I can only guess that a usb port has a problem. Hope this helps.

HI,
I was being helped by Quads on the norton community. I know he helps out here too. Quads was helping me but I screwed up, thought I was helping to save time(yes, I know I saved you alot of time now) but I did not follow complete instructions.

This is what was done so far

OTL scan was run

adwcleaner was run

had adwcleaner delete all and reboot

ran combofix

when computer was rebooting it got stuck on the black screen for about an hour

Had to restart it again and when it did it restored to a previous date

This is where I screwed up

Since it was a previous date it seemed like nothing had taken place, no downloads on the desktop.

Ran the otl scan again

adwcleaner again, log looked the same as first time so I deleted all again

Ran combofix and rebooted and it gave me a log

That is where I am stuck, I dont know whether to leave these downloads on the computer, delete them

I dont think that Quads is going to help me anymore since I messed up, so I was wondering if anyone else could help. I just really want to finish what was started. The computer was stuck on the black screen this morning and finally got it restarted after about 5 times. But I do think there is some kind of virus. Still have adwcleaner and combofix downloaded on the computer. Dont know if I should delete them or what.

Thanks

Kim

Hello, originally my problem is that my internet browsers (Internet explorer, firefox) can not display any kind of pages because of some kind of virus. Also I had some kind of fake Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) asking me to download more fake AV's onto my computer but I knew well enough that it was fake so I close it. This also shows up in safe mode. MSE block me from opening things such as iexplorer.exe or sometimes it would say tskmanager is a virus and it wouldn't let me open anything. So eventually I google this up, and I read somewhere that told me to rename hotfix.exe to hotfix1.exe when I run %APPDATA% so the annoying MSE would stop showing up. It also told me to update my Malwarebyte which I still can not do because I still do not have access to the internet. By the way I am using another computer to type this. So again, I tried to do some more research to fix my internet problem and I found this site that told me to download KillGodzilla.exe and run it and reboot my computer, after that I should update my Malwarebyte but of course, I can't do that because after the WINDOWS loading screen, the blue log in screen doesn't show and displays a black screen which flickers sometimes, after a few minutes it would restart my computer. Also same thing for safe mode. Does anyone know what is going on? Did I screw up my computer to badly? Do I need to reset my BIOS? I am using Windows XP if that helps. I also hav ESET smart security on my computer but I can... Read more

A friend of mine started having a problem with his old dual core computer where the computer seemed like it was booting up but the screen stayed black. This started when he got back from a weeks vacation and found out he lost power in his house. The power was back on when he got home but he could tell with clock being wrong, and neighbors telling him about the outage. He leaves his computer on all the time and when he got home he saw that it was off. When he booted up the only thing he could get was a screen with the XFX logo from the maker of his Geforce GTX 460 video card. Sometimes he wouldn't even get that, just a black screen.
He also connects his usb keyboard in the front and hit the connect to his computer and bent up the keyboard usb connector. I got him another keyboard and replaced the PSU thinking maybe with the power outage the PSU was effected. The computer seemed to boot up and work. Problem is it only worked for about a day (he played video games all day). That night he started with the problem again of black screen.
I thought maybe it was the motherboard then ( the system is an older dual core from 2007), so he purchased the following:

Windows 8 64-bit

Re: Screen goes black. Bought new computer and installed video card and still screen

If a new computer begins to exhibit behavior from the old one, I'd remove the commonalities between the both.

You really should have tested the new computer with the onboard GPU and PSU first. Now you need to remove those two and put it back to the original config and test it.

It is also possible that the PSU isn't enough for the video card, if it is multirail and 450W, or low quality PSU. However, it seems more likely if that was the cause, the computer would shut off, not go to a black screen.

I am thinking the computer is slow because the driver or video card or something is not working right.  My problem is.  I had this Lenovo computer for a couple of years now.  I just bought a 23" HP S2331a  flat screen monitor.  What do you need to know for me to be able to fix the problem I am having?  The information on the side of the tower is 3000 H210 57091130, Intel GMA3100 graphics.  I am not sure why the computer is doing what is it doing, but I hope you can help me more than HP. The black screen issue happens on startup.  I can see things on the screen up until the login screen attempts to come up and then the screen does not recognize a signal.  I bypass this currently by connecting the old crt screen on until I log in.  Then reconnect the HP screen and wahlah it works.  I can't change the resolution or anyhting like that...... Any thoughts on corredting this so I cna have a working monitor and not have to keep the old crt unit around on startup?Mark

Hello Folks,

I'm not sure if my issue is with hardware (possibly MB?) or graphics card, so please forgive me if I've posted in the wrong section. The first problem I was having was random blue screens of death that displayed graphic card driver issues. I was able to remedy that by updating my graphic drivers and have not had an issue since.

However, ever since then I have been running into another hardware or graphics-related issue that is random and completely stumping me. What is happening is, I will be on my computer, leave and turn my monitor off, and (randomly) when I come back to use my computer again, when I turn on the monitor there is no signal and a black screen (e.g. when I turn my monitor on my desktop will pop up and the light on my monitor will turn blue, when it doesn't turn on there will be a black screen and the light on the monitor stays yellow as if it is idle). I have tried swapping out the monitor to see if that was the issue and the same problem persists, so it does not appear to be my monitor or VGA cables.

The only way I can temporarily fix this issue is to reboot/restart my computer and viola! The monitor works again and I can see everything. This issue is very random. Sometimes I can go weeks without an incident, other times this is happening a couple times a week. I honestly don't know if it's my motherboard or video card or what. My PC isn't overheating, I'm not overclocking, and all of my drivers are updated.

Last night I downloaded a file from a Torrent site - Blackberry stuff (I'm pretty sure most or all was freeware stuff). I just noticed that that file has been removed. Kinda unfortunately because I did leave a comment on what happened to me and I asked if anyone else had the same issue. I'm guessing maybe they did because it is gone now.

I ran my AVG scan on it before opening it. It didn't find anything so I ran the executable. It locked up at one point after I started getting virus warnings from some new program (I did not write down what any of it was :-( ).

I had to do a hard shutdown. When it came up to my choices window, i.e. choose Safe Mode, Last Know, etc. I was unable to make any selections with my keyboard so it continued to boot Windows normally. The XP splash screen comes on and then the screen turns black with nothing further happening.

I can do a hard reboot but I can't get into Safe Mode because the keyboard isn't working and normal windows isn't working either.

Got any suggestions? Do I have some serious funk? Did some piece of hardware decide to stop functioning properly (power supply)?

I have been Googling this issue without any success. Sometimes it feels like you are the only one to ever have a particular issue.

This happened very late last night and now I am at work so I'm not able to touch it for the next 5 hours or so. The only two things that I can do right now is go into the BIOS settings or watch it go into Windows and then get the... Read more

hi all, a recent problem has occurred with my computer. whilst playing games, i can play for a few minutes, and then a black screen appears, with sound looping and the screen status colour changes from solid green to flickering green. This is XP Professional by the way.My system is as follows:P5N-E Sli MoboC2D E750 2.66ghz2.0 gb ramXFX 8800GTS 320mbThe games in which this occur are as follows:Team Fortress 2Grand Theft Auto: San AndreasThe Elder Scrolls IV: OblivionGuild WarsHowever, what is strikingly odd about this problem is that it only occurs about 80% of the time. Yesterday, I managed to play Guild Wars, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion absolutely perfectly.I have searched forums, and it seems this can be linked to overheating, but my temperature gauge on the front of the computer says I run at about 30 C most of the time, and the computer itself is not hot inside at all. All fans are spinning fine, no dust.I have heard other issues such as graphics card drivers, and i have tried 3 different drivers, all of which did not overcome this problem.Could it possibly be sound drivers? Or possibly something wrong with the motherboard? Thanks in advance.Mod Edit: Topic moved to more appropriate forum~ TMacK

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 from the taskbar on my desktop. The upgrade was successful and I was able to use my computer normally. Today, when I started my computer, a disk check was started. After a long time of being stuck at 10%, I force booted the computer off. Now, the computer boots past the Windows 10 logo and goes to a black screen with the cursor. This screen appears before the login screen does. I am able to move the mouse but that is the limit of my control. The mouse is also showing the little blue loading circle next to it blinking over and over.

Hi,
I have a problem that started about a week ago. Every time I turn my computer on in the morning, when I turn it on a strange screen comes up. It's usually something that's trying to get me to download drivers or update adobe or something like that. The screen that showed up this morning was this: hxxp://static.thehumanallegiance.com

What is this? It seems like they always start with the word static in the address. Is it a virus and how do I get rid of it or get it to stop?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Looks like it could be a malicious Chrome extension.

You've posted in the wrong forum. This forum is only for discussing anti-virus software issues and things of that nature. Since it looks like you have an infection, please start a new thread in the Virus & Other Malware Removal forum and provide the logs requested in the sticky post at the top of that forum.

Hi

My desktop keeps showing blue screens. Yesterday I was able to start it up and tried to restore to a previous point, but it wouldn't complete and gave a blue screen. Now I can't turn the computer on without a blue screen displaying. I've pulled out the old laptop to post this. So far I've copied down the info for three of them. They are as follows:

The first one I saw:

TECHNICAL INFO:
0x000000051 (0x0000000D, 0x00000001, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
Another blue screen displayed:
0x000000024 (0x00190203, 0x864401A8, 0x00000102, 0x00000000)
And the last one I saw:
0x000000024 (0x00190203, 0x86D79168, 0x00000102, 0x00000000)

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer:Blue screen everytime I turn on computer

Your STOP 24 error...indicates a problem with either a key system file, your partition/file structure, or your hard drive.

See 24 in left column at http://www.aumha.org/a/stop.htm .

The Stop 51 error is somewhat ambiguous, but...since part of the error message indicates a registry problem, I would believe that.

I had my daughters computer serviced accouple months ago...she went to turn on her computer this morning and she said it was "glitching" so i went and turned her laptop on and it does turn on but it goes to the hp screen and then cuts off and does this repeativly without even touching the power button...how do i fix this?

Answer:Computer turns on and loads to HP screen then turn off

Hi @dukedevil74, Welcome to HP Forums! I have read your post and wanted to help. I understand that when you turn on the laptop, it loops at the HP logo screen. In order to better assist you, can you provide the product number of your laptop? If the computer locks up at the HP or Compaq logo screen or the Windows loading screen, try cleaning the computer vents with compressed air. Restart the computer. If Windows 10 opens, you are done. If Windows 10 does not open, go to Troubleshooting other issues with computer not starting. Let me know how it goes. If this helps you to reach a solution, please click the "Accept as Solution" button down below in this message. If you wish to say "thanks" for my effort to help, click the "thumbs up" to give me Kudos.  Regards,

Answer:when I turn on computer a blue screen appears!!

Lets see if Safe Mode works:

Booting into Safe Mode Win 8/10

1. Start your computer
2. When it starts booting, force shut-down

Keep doing this until you see this screen

Now, let it finish, and if it says it is unable to repair your computer, like this:

Click Advanced Options > Start-Up Settings > Restart
When this screen comes up, press f5 to go to Safe Mode

when I try to load my computer, the computer loads but the monitor does not. I end up having to do a hard shut down and reload the computer then it usually works fine. I have tried a new cable and monitor but it does not fix the problem. I have checked the graphics card and it says it is working properly. I have run windows troubleshooter to check for errors but none are found. What could be causing this. I am running windows 10 but it was a windows 7 originally, the problem has been happening for a couple months now and i upgraded when windows 10 first came out so I don't think the upgrade is the problem either.

i just built this computer i did everything try to put it to sleep or hibernate, the screen will turn off but the computer is still running, i've tried to enable hibernation option by turning it on in command center powercfg -h on. and i went to disk clean up the Hibernation File Cleaner is not there.

when it put powercfg a it saids "the following states are available standby "s1" hibernate"i also went to bios and the setting is on S1, i also disable the network adapter from waking the computer up. i've tried everything!!! please help!!

i have

Processor - AMD Anthlon ii x4 635

MotherBoard- msi 785gm-E51 (MS-7596)

Graphic Card - nvida geforce 9800 gtx+

ram- 4g ddr3 1600

System - windows 7 64 bit.

Thanks!!

Answer:computer can't hibernate or sleep, screen will turn off but cpu is on

It's likely a device or driver will be stopping the sleep state so what works for me is open "power options" from the control panel and set as balanced then go to change plan settings set turn off screen to never then sleep to something like 2 mins .........

now go to "change advanced power settings" and try wireless adapter in "medium power saving mode" then for sleep set hybrid sleep and hibernate to off, for USB settings "USB selective suspend" as enabled, power buttons and lid as your choice , PCI express as "moderate power settings"

It is also possible that a USB device such as bluetooth can be stopping sleep state so experiment with turning the device on or off or even unplugging while you test and make sure they are using the latest drivers ?

try that and see if if your PC will sleep, and for further debugging from an elevated cmd prompt run : powercfg -energy and note path output to system32 folder , view energy-report.html copy out of your system32 folder into an easy access folder or desktop then view in your browser for a detailed report ?

If you do get it to sleep you can go back to advanced and set hibernation on, using the hybrid sleep setting, and you can adjust your time and turn off display to your liking

let us know how it goes

So a few weeks ago we had to have some viruses removed from our computer, and it seemed like it was working again. Today, when we went to turn it on, the screen would only turn on for about 30 seconds, and then it would go blank. You could still hear the computer running though. Then when we shut it down and tried to start it in safe mode, we weren't able to. It said something like "No support", but when we tried starting it how we usually do, it worked. Now it's working really slow, and the screen keeps on freezing.

Answer:Computer runs but the screen doesn't turn on

Hi -

Is it a laptop or desktop?

If laptop, try connecting an external monitor. A laptop here loses monitor a few seconds after boot due to a known hardware issue.

If desktop, try another cable +/or monitor.

Hi,
I have a problem that started about a week ago. Every time I turn my computer on in the morning, when I turn it on a strange screen comes up. It's usually something that's trying to get me to download drivers or update adobe or something like that. The screen that showed up this morning was this: hxxp://static.thehumanallegiance.com

This is the info from the TSG SysInfo:

Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.2
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU B940 @ 2.00GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 42 Stepping 7

Motherboard: LENOVO, Emerald Lake

What is this? Is it a virus and how do I get rid of it or get it to stop?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

hp s5623 windows 7
I turn the computer on and the fans start there are no beeps and the dvd opens and closes fine. I cannot enter bios at all.
The hp blue splash screen is on the monitor with three options F10 (setup) Esc (boot menu) and F11 (system recovery). When I shut it off and restart; while pressing the F10 the screen comes up saying it is entering setup, but never happens. Same with the Esc. F11 doesn't even pretend to work.
I do hope the team of Tim and friends can help. :banghead

Answer:i turn the computer on, but there is no beeps and i cannot get past the hp screen.

Re: i turn the computer on, but there is no beeps and i cannot get past the hp screen

First: Remove any media from the floppy drives, CD/DVD drives, USB ports, and memory card reader slots, and disconnect all non-essential devices (printers, scanners, external hard drives, and similar). Leave only the keyboard, mouse, and monitor connected to the computer.
Next press F10 repeatedly, even before the HP screen appears and see if you can get into the BIOS.

Answer:computer on screen black

If you tilt the screen at an angle or put a light to it, can you see anything on it?It is possible the blacklight is damaged.

The computer that I have, had an operating system, motherboard and restore CDs that were innerconnected and then I changed the motherboard and the restore CDs stopped working. I then bought a new version of XP. This Version was professional and the old version was home edition. I got another old computer and tried to get age of empires 2 to run with a lan with the first computer described. I then concluded that microsoft wont allow different versions of windows to inner connect on a lan caming connection. I then decided to put the old motherboard back in the computer so the restore CD's should work again, and I then installed the other version of windows on the other old computer. I deleted the hard-drive of the motherboard first computer, and then reinstalled the installation CDs, because it failed to boot the first time before the hard-drive deletion. It is still failing to boot, and I am trying to delete the hard-drive again, incase I deleted the other one; (Because there was some swapping and some master/slave slot determining that had been forgotten by me.) Now when I say it doesn't boot, what I mean is, it shows the screen that states my graphic card, then scans for hard-drive, then it says "Found" or whatever it says, and then when it tries to load up window, it freezes at a black screen.

I hope you find the problem before I pull my hair out.

Hey guys,

I've been having problems with my Dell Inspiron 6000 for a while now. It's a great computer when it works- which it rarely does.

I'm going to explain my problem:

--Basically when I start the computer it goes straight to black screen. Windows does not start-up.

--I've called the Dell people at least 6 times over the last few years, and they've talked me through reinstalling the operating system, which I do. After the operating system is reinstalled the computer usually works for a few weeks, then goes back to the black screen.

--I have a virus protector on the computer, so I don't think i'm just catching new virus' with every reinstallation.

--I'm really not sure what to do. Do I need a new motherboard, harddrive? I don't know, but it's odd because after I reinstall the operating system I do get a few weeks where it works properly... then it breaks down again.

Any advice would be great!

thanks

Answer:Computer Goes To Black Screen

Sounds like the MBR is corrupthttp://www.microsoft.com/resources/documen...r.mspx?mfr=trueYou can create your own Recovery Console disk with this file:http://www.thecomputerparamedic.com/files/rc.isoYou must burn this file to a CD as an ISO. Post back if you need more information on how to do this.Insert the Recovery Console CD into the CD drive, and then restart the computer. Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD drive if you are prompted. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console. When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.

Hiya to all who read this. My mom's computer screen will suddenly turn black. You can't do anything to bring it back except manual shut down. My Q is....monitor or video card? I believe I have my old video card that came with my computer that I could swap out to check, and I could always take over my monitor to check that also. Would there be anything else that may cause such a thing? Any advise or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Yee

Answer:Black Computer Screen

Both good ideas.

Try swapping the monitor first, since you don't have to do as much work.

If you still have the problem, then swapping video cards would make sense.

Let us know, OK?

i've had a laptop for 8 year now (Evesham Voyager X5) and about 3 years back, knocked it off a table which messed up the screen so it wouldn?t light up. however everything else works fine on it and i?ve been hooking it up to an old block monitor, but i find it annoying now as i have lots of valuable software on the machine. i?m not too great on the hardware side of computing, however i did a bit of research today, watched some utube videos and found out it?s most likely either the inverter or backlight gone bust. the thing is though, as the computer so old, i can?t seem to find anything about its spec and i was wondering if it matter what make/model inverter i bought if i was to buy one too the computer's voltage and the lcd screen it has on it already?

Answer:Old computer and black screen!

I would say it's more likely screen/backlight.
If it was just the inverter, the screen would still work but be very dim (almost black).
Shine a torch to see if you can see anything.
When I knocked my 2 yr old laptop (3 months at time) off an 18" side table onto carpet, it actually cracked the screen fairly obviously.
New screen cost me £70 from amazon
They are bit cheaper now, but you might have trouble with an 8 yr old laptop.
Replacement was easy for me (I am an electronic engineer). There are loads of Youtube vids and of course mfrs Service and Maintenance Manual Guide pdfs to help.
If you are practical, it is certainly doable.
But if pennies allow, you might want to consider a new laptop and connect your old Hard Drive in a caddy via USB to transfer everything over.
Old applications won't transfer, but there are lots of Freeware sites for most things (unless you have something special)

I will be surfing the web or playing a game when my computer just goes to a black screen like it is not communicating with my monitor anymore. I have tried a diffrent video card, diffrent monitor and diffrent cord and still get the same problem.

It appears that it does not shut off as my hard drive is still spinning and one time when it was at the blackscreen I heard a sound of my router conenction being dropped and re-established.

I am thinking it might be the ram as one time when I couldn't get it to boot back up after doing this I removed and re-seated the ram and it was fine. I am not sure though as it is pretty new ram so I thought I'd run my log here first.

Any help will be much appreciated.

This started happening recently, but Ill be on my computer sometimes playing games, sometimes just talking to people on AIM, and then out of nowhere the screen goes black. I click and hit the keyboard but nothing happens, the power is still on, but my screen is black and I'm forced to restart my computer. The only way that I have found that works is this: I unplug all the cords and take off the case, then I take a small vacume and just vacum the motherboard and video card, and then it will work for about 1 week. 1 week later I have to do the same thing.. its getting annoying. I have a Radeon 9600, XP, Pent 4, 1 gig of RAM. The computers about 1 year old.

Hi everyone! I'm not sure if I am posting this in the correct forum, but I need your help!

I have an old (meaning I got it in 2000) Gateway Essential. It was working fine until Monday afternoon. My mom was using it and the screen went black. The monitor was still on and the power light on the tower was on, but it wasn't doing anything. When I restarted the computer, it brings up an error with my GoBack feature, saying that there could be a corrupt file in some software or a problem with the drive. It says to go through scandisk, which I do and it goes through and starts up fine. Then if I try running the anti-virus, log on to AOL to go on line, it will work for a few minutes, and then the same thing happens again. I restart it again and go through the whole process. I've run the defragger, uninstalled AOL and my Kodak Easyshare software and my Scanner Software, and am still having issues. I'm not sure what to try next--I'm not sure if its a software thing or a virus. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hello,

I have recently bought a barbones kit from TigerDirect and got it all hooked up and running. Worked great for 2days then before I went to work today as I was logged into World Of Warcraft the screen went full orange then black. Computer stayed on just black screen and no response from the keyboard and mouse. So I decide ok its not going to come back on turn it off. Turn it back on fans kick on everything sounds like its going to get back up and going but.... Screen just stays black nothing is going to it. So I call up my buddy who knows a few things about computers and he says to go ahead and switch the ram around. I switch it around to vaious spots doesn't work. He says ok take the video card out and try another or use onboard video. The motherboard I have has an onboard so I take out the video card and try the onboard same thing nothing on the screen. By this time im running out of time before work so he says to unplug the unplug the power and the atx plugs in the mobo and let it sit while im at work. 4hours pass I come back home plug it all back in try again fail. So I think ok well lets see if this ram really does work throw it into my second computer here and it loads up just fine. So as I see it right now it is not the ram. so we are down to it either being the CPU, MOBO, Video Card or Power supply. I am in the process right now of taking the cmos out and from what I have read from my Mobo Manual I have it set to reset the cmos right now as well.

Could be overheating or could be a power supply issue. Hopefully, you bought a QUALITY brand power supply to power that "hungry" GTX 1080.

What is the full make and model of the power supply? Also full computer specs would help as well.

Hello,

I have a Compaq Presario CQ62 w/ AMD Processor. I've had it for about 2 years now, recently the screen has not turned on, it is black. I have tried a "hard reset" and it actually worked for a while, but when I tried to turn it back on, same problem occurred, the "hard reset" does not work anymore. The lights on the caps lock button keep blinking, and the power button light also turns on. I tried connecting to an external monitor and it does not work as well. What are the possibles reasons for this problem?

Thank you

Answer:Black Computer Screen

What do you mean by "not work as well"?

Well, if the external works fine, you LCD screen is shot, most likely a bad backlight. But if both you LCD and external don't work, that normally is a video card problem. Could also be another system fault.

I have an FIC K7MNF-64 motherboard and I tried to install it into the computer I have been putting together but something isn't working. The first time I put everything together and turned it on a giant e came on the monitor, I'm guessing it's for emachines since the motherboard I am using is used in them a lot. After the e came up there was nothing, just black. I pushed every button people have told me to push to bring up the BIOS screen but nothing. Ever since that first time of turning it on not even the e screen will show up. I can hear the computer booting up but I see nothing on the monitor. The monitor power button always flashes like its on standby and its not getting anything from the computer. Also there is a beeping noise that repeats and repeats when I turn the computer on. I looked up the BIOS beep codes but it didn't have anything for the beeping that I hear. The only thing I bought used is the motherboard. I was wondering if there is any configurations I have to do for the motherboard to get it to work. Any special installation CD to configure it to the cpu?? I just need to get this computer working since my laptop stopped working. Any help would be greatfully appreciated.
