Urgent help needed

Question: Urgent help needed

Hey all,

Need some help with my pc, i have recently upgraded my pc to vista, however it seems to be freezing quite frequently, it freezes for around 3-5 mins and then comes back and works fine, i was thinking of upgrading my RAM to 1GB to see if that helps, but want some decent advice first, I have attached a CPU Z log below to help you.

Thanks in advance.

Preferred Solution: Urgent help needed

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Question: Urgent help needed

I stupidly installed xp on my acer aspire 9300, unknowing that they do not support xp

Huge problem being, that none of the drivers are reconised...

My main concern is getting the internet so i can solve the problem myself.. I need the "ethernet controller" driver i think,

I tried to install driver detective, but of course it couldnt scan because it needs to connect to the internet to complete it..

I am connected with a netgear wireless router..

I just want the internet driver so that i can recover all the other ones with tedious processes, which i have the time to do.. But this is not my computer, so i need to burn the main ones onto a disk.

Any help would be very very much appreciated.

-its the wireless card driver i think

Answer:Urgent Help Needed Please!

boot the PC and press F8 continually until the boot screen arrives, if you look at the list of choices choose the one that says 'last known configuration that worked', or probably a more certain option is go for the restore to earlier date, choose a date before you messed up the registry and that should get things running again.
As a noob there are a number of things you need to know and some you will learn, you have just demonstrated one of Windows strict unwritten laws, never change anything in the registry unless you are absolutely sure of what you are doing and then make a back up of the registry before you start so any problems can be rectified.(actually you can just back up the one key you are going to change\delete by selecting 'export' from the right click menu, save it somewhere obvious and if things dont go according to plan you have only to click the .reg file a couple of times to import the key and data back where it came from.
hope you get sorted.
(BTW being new is nothing very terrible, everyone was once and most peeps have made the same sort of mistake.)

Question: help needed urgent

hi,

on saturday, i have upgraded my pc to the follwoing config:

CPU: intel c2d, E6550 @ 2.33MHZ
BUS SPEED 1332MHZ
MOTHERBOARD INTEL DG33FB
RAM 2GB TRANSCEND @667MHZ
HDD SEAGATE 500GB SATA
HDD SAMSUNG 160GB PATA
SOUND, GRFX AND GIGALAN ONBOARD
400W VIP SMPS

i have a heating issue with the motherboard, the intel desktop utility software is indicating me that the I/O controller hub is at 83*c and the memory controller hub MCH is at 70*c. the motherboard is at 44*c and the cpu is at 46*c.

what i wanna know is , is this sort of temprature normal?

Answer:help needed urgent

Does sound a bit high, but it could always be a faulty temp sensor. The CPU and M/B temps sound ok though.

If it has always been that high and your system aint crashing then you should be alright (just out of intrest have you overclocked at all?)

First off, I am sure that I have no virus, trojan, etc.

In the last 4-5 days my recycle bin has been acting a little strange.

1. Deleted files not showing up in bin but were deleted
2. Files that were in recycle bin could not be deleted, always due to some error
3. The errors are different, but similar:

Error Deleting File Or Folder
Cannot remove folder Dc330: access is denied

Make sure that the disk is not full or write-protected
and that the file is not in use

I have tried many ways to DELETE the Recycle Bin but
even the CMD prompts either cant delete this or will now.

This file  C:\RECYCLER
has this in it   S-1-5-21-776561741-1592454029-1801674531-1004

It looks like a huge directory with many files are here
One is c:\WINDOWS
It looks like this is my Windows directory

Also, when I boot windows I see a black screen. The screen similar to what
you see in booting to safe mode. One entry is Windows. If I wait 30-45 seconds
Windows boots normally

This has me worried as I do not want to reinstall windows

Thanks in advance

Mike

Answer:Urgent - Help Needed

The black screen you are seeing before Windows starts is the 'Boot Options Screen'. I suggest that the next time you boot your computer, assuming you get to this screen, don't just let it time out but use the up and Down arrow keys to select an entry near the bottom 'Start in last known good configuration', then press the 'Enter' key. This should restore your computer to a time before this trouble started.

When you select 'Last good config' it can take a few minutes before your computer starts itself - this is normal.

You really dont want to install 64bit in 2 gigs of ram. That is the absolute minimum. It will crawl

That being said you need to boot from the dvd not try to launch it from within an OS.

so i think i have a key logger on my pc as my wow account was hacked

theses are the steps i took

full norton internet security scan
full spyware doctor scan
i used CCleaner

MBAM (MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware)

i then restarted my PC

i then downloaded hijack this, when i clicked on do a scan and save a log file i get an error message saying that my system denied access to the host file and it wont properly create a log so i can show you all what it says. for some reason it wont let me run the file as administrator when i right click it as im using vista :s

Question: urgent help needed

Right firstly my laptop disk drive doesn't work so a factory restore is out of the question.

Disk checker was running and my laptop shut off midway through, since then my laptop hasn't been working because windows explorer is not responding. Safe mode works perfectly fine.

What could be the problem and how should I resolve it?

Answer:urgent help needed

Before anything else I would try running Disc Checker in safe mode which I guess you have.

Other than that, windows restore via the windows CD comes to my mind. I believe there are better options out there though which I'm not aware of.

OK I had a major Vista meltdown today.

Diskeeper Pro damaged my Vista install, causing my PC to BSOD cycle on startup.

After my initial panic I sat down and thought things through..

I ran the repair routine from my Vista Install CD, this got me as far as a black screen with a mouse pointer :-(

So I realised that my vista install was dead an buried, although the command line showed me that all my data (there is a huge amount) is all intact.

Vista wont let me install over the top of itself like XP used too. So I had to plug in another SATA drive to enable me to install a fresh copy of Vista on the 2nd disk without trashing the 1st.

Now I can boot Vista YAY!! well almost YAY!!.

I can see the original disk as D: but I cant access it.

I have tried setting the permissions on the drive, which went off and listed all my files as it set the new perms but afterwards I still could not access it (Access Denied).

I have a backstore drive standing by to copy across the 1TB of data (yes you read correctly), but I need to be able to access the data before I can back it up.

Any ideas?

Answer:Urgent Help needed pls. I am nearly there...

Hi. . .

I would run a chkdsk on drive d: at an elevated cmd ("DOS") prompt -
START | tyrp cmd.exe into the start search box | right-click on cmd.exe | select Run as Administrator - then type the following and hit enter -

Code:
chkdsk d: /r
Then re-boot.

Regards. . .

i just f***** up my laptop.

I'm getting several virus detections from Windows Defender and on startup its telling me some .dll file is missing. I'm pretty sure that has to do with the trojan. I think it was named gugvatja.dll or something like that.

Also, I was playing a game, went full screen, and couldn't get back to normal res. Everytime I tried to go back to the half screen or whatever its called it wouldn't do anything. I put my res higher but it still isn't right. The res I needed is like in between what happened after I went full screen and what it is now.

I'm thinking of restoring unless you guys have any better ideas. Thanks in advance for your help.

I recently used a program called "RegSeeker" to clean my registry. After I used this my computer started malfuncioning. I couldn't use any things on the start bar like run, help and support. Then I restarted my computer and the windows taskbar and none of the icons on my desktop or the system tray appeared, only the background. I had to press cntrl+alt+delete to run firefox. I created a backup when i cleaned the registry but when i try to restore it it says error accessing registry. I've zipped the backup and uploaded it as it was too big to upload regularly. Please help me I have no idea how to get my pc back to how it was before.

Hi, I'm running Vista home premium 64 bit with the latest SP.

I just installed an old game (Sniper Elite) and after installation it asked for a reboot. I did this and got the message that windows couldn't start, this could be down to a change recently made etc etc.

It then said to fix it

1- insert windows disk and reboot
2- select language and click next
3- Choose repair my computer

I did this but when I clicked repair my computer it didn't show any OS in the box to repair! It just says "If you did not see your OS in the list, click load drivers to load drivers for your hard disk"

I have no idea what to do now, please help me!

Thanks

Answer:Urgent help needed please

If you did not see your OS in the list, click load drivers to load drivers for your hard diskc

If you do not see Vista, then hit the tab to load the drivers; Vista will show up and you can then select it.

Here's a guide to repairing: How to dual boot Vista and XP (with Vista installed first) -- the step-by-step guide with screenshots

You're not dual booting, but the link is to the repair section, which will guide you through the steps you need to take right now.

Hi friends, my computer is in serious trouble. It works OK when I start it but the moment I connect to the internet, it restarts immediately without any warning. It seems I have a serious virus problem.

I have not attached the logs of Counterspy since it shows absolutely no malware on it's scans. Same for Spybot.

Question: Urgent Help Needed

I have Windows Xp. I ran into a problem last week with my computer and a nasty virus hit my system. (I forgot what it was) However, this thing would not even let me pull up my security software or download a new one under safe mode. Long story short... I did a system restore. Since then, my system is just not back to what it was. I did hit the backup file selection. All of my pictures are gone. My daughter is 9 and every single pic I had of her is gone, all of my coursework is gone, and I am just sick and don't know what to do.

I have tried to actually go back and restore manually but, it will not allow me to restore before the actual date that I did the restore.

Can someoone help me? Also, I have no sound coming from my speakers. I went into the control panel and it is not even picing up that there are speakers there. I plugged in my headphones to see if they would work and they are not working either. I cannot manually go into my control panel because it is not picking up anything there in the sound department.

Someone please help me retrieve my pictures and files... Please.... Can someone help me get my system back to normal??? Thank you somuch for anyone who can help me.

Question: Urgent help needed

Well, I installed the beta version of Windows 7 on my HP Pavilion a810n PC. It was good, but all my drivers were disabled. I went to revert back to Windows XP, since in the Boot menu it had the option now to revert to previous Windows. I went into it, and it opened the HP recovery. Now, I've had to do HP recovery twice in the past, but now, it looks way different. Now it just gives me options to go into a sort of command-promt type thing, where I pick a place and can implement commands. That's about all I can do. At one point, I typed in "FIXMBR", not knowing completely what it did. Now, when I start my computer back up, it goes into that same recovery type thing. How do I get back on Windows 7, or better yet, Windows XP? Also, I thought I should add, that in the restart thing, where it's the HP logo and at the bottom it says "press F10 for system recovery", the button no longer works, and I have to let it restart to go into recovery. I need the computer, ASAP, so the sooner you can help me, the better. Thank you in advance!

Answer:Urgent help needed

sounds like your os and recovery may be corrupted...Probably going to have to do a fresh install. If there is data you need on your computer about the only thing I can suggest(assuming you have another computer available) is to get an external hard drive enclosure. Put your drive in it, hook it up to the secondary machine and copy everything you need off of it.

Question: Urgent Help Needed

So right now I have a Trojan. I am trying to get rid of it. Earlier I went into the WTM, and looked at my processes that I had running. What I am doing is going through all of the processes and looking up what they are, what they do, and if they could be a potential danger to my computer. I came across a program called SVCHOST.exe. I typed it in at the UniBlue process library, andI got mixed results. Apparently, SVCHOST is a essential program that is harmless, But, it seems that alot of Trojans and harmful things alike disguise themselves as SVCHOST. I currently have 8 different svchost.exe's running, with mem usage ranging from 3,000 kb, to 28,000. Do you think that I have a problem?

I tried to download something earlier (not porn, promise) but immediately after i pressed download, it redirected me to a porn site. At the time, I had AVG antivirus, but I uninstalled that and downloaded Avast! I ran the test and it did find a trojan, it also found a buch of spyware. I did what it recommended me to do ( being that i was unfamiliar with avast), and I moved them to the chest, but some of them werent able to go to the chest, i am not sure that one of them was the trojan though, but I am nearly certain because after I put the bad stuff in the chest, I chose to delete them, but, after I deleted them, I still have the Trojan. What the trojan is doing is when I try to get on IE, it says Blank page and tells me to download a fake antivirus. Obviously, I did not. Also, when I try to ... Read more

tonight i made the biggest mistake of my life by letting someone who i at first trusted and thought was helping me and then he took control of my computer via freeloop and f**ked everything. i was asking him to help me put a theme on my ipod and then he deleted system restore and a bunch of other things all quickly and left. i can access system restore but when it asks you to pick an earlier date you cant click on them. also the internet connection is screwed up, the internet is there, and im typing this using my nintendo wii running off a router which still works, but when you try to open the internet, it brings you up to dial-up, asking for a username and password. to reiterate, we obviously don't have dial up. Everything is much larger, and the resolution makes everything look pixelated. Last but not least he removed everything from my ipod touch, and it won't connect to itunes, due to an 'unknown error.' Lastly, on the main screen of my ipod there are no buttons. He stripped it. Hi,
I need some help please, I've recently noticed a loss in harddrive space and I have narrowed the causes down to a malware..... I found it in the programs and features list and it is called "favorit" I thought it would be as simple as uninstalling it but when I click it, CMD runs for 1 second then closes and the program doesn't install

Does anyone know how I would get rid of it???
I've tried:

PLEASE HELP BECAUSE I NEED MY LAPTOP WORKING WELL URGENTLY

Question: Urgent Help Needed

I was on my laptop today on the internet and out of the blue it blue screened. It said something about _KERNEL_ but the screen was only up for a split second before the screen went black. I shut the laptop off and restarted it but after the Compaq screen, before windows even boots, I get a message in the top left hand corner that says:

A disk read error occurred.
Press ctrl + alt + delete to restart.

Anyways, I went into Bios and ran the "Primary HDD Self-Test" and it failed. I'm not really sure what I'm doing in BIOS Ill admit, but I'm pretty sure that has something to do with it. Is my hard drive dead?

The computer is a Compaq Presario if that makes a difference.

Any help you could give me would be much appreciated.

Question: Urgent Help Needed

Holy ****, hey folks. Got a real problem. Today i booted up my Computer only to notice that it said my CPU was running at 1.2ghz, this is NOT right as it normally runs at 2080ghz (being an AMD XP 2800+)

What the hell is going on? Both Everest and DXDIAG are showing this, please help me.

I recently updated my BIOS but there were no errrors. Also, you may know if you've been following my threads that my CPU was overheating not that long ago could my BIOS have dropped the speed to 1.2ghz to 'cool' the PC down? My PSU is also not supplying enough power and so ordered a new one, which should arrive tommorow.

Will adding my new PSU set the CPU clock back to 2080ghz, god i hope so.

C'mon, need your help desperately.

:O :O :O

Answer:Urgent Help Needed

Hello,

It seems that your FSB has been lowered.... It should be 12.5 x 166 for an AMD Athlon XP 2800+.

Post a screenshot or a report of the Motherboard page to show the Front Side Bus Properties and Memory Bus Properties.

Perhaps your BIOS hasn't detected your CPU correctly. Try resetting your BIOS, or see if you can correct the FSB in BIOS.

Oh and...how many watts is your current PSU? If it's 400W that is more, than enough...

Answer:urgent help needed plz

Your Operating System and Internet Explorer versions are WAY out of date and represent a major security risk. After we fix your current problems, you must get updated. You need to install Service Pack 2 for security purposes.

You have not completed the READ ME, please follow the steps below:

Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above and you still have a problem, make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below thread to properly use HijackThis and attach the log:

The same message repeated when i opened ie, (ieuser.exe-corrupt file. The file or directory ........).

Hello Buzz1443,

I do still see malware in the logs you posted. If you still require assistance, I'd like to see the current state of your system.

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop.

What DSS will do:create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review.
DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.

Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.Close all applications and windows.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt <-this one will be minimized
Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt in your next reply.
Please attach extra.txt to your post.
To attach a file to a new post, simplyClick the[Manage Attachments] button under Additional Options > Attach Files on the post composition page, and
copy and paste the following into the "Upload File from your Computer" box:C:\Deckard\System Scanner\extra.txt

Click Upload.

Please include the following in your next reply:

Answer:Urgent help needed!!!

Hi, alnic123

Welcome.

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
Choose your usual account.
Running SDFix in Safe Mode:

Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

Question: Urgent Help Needed

First let me start by introducing myself to this forum. I've lurked on and off for a while and now i'm a member. So hi every one i'm Ty Dye

Now to my problem. This could get very long winded because i don't want to leave out a single detail, so i apologize for my lack of brevity in advance.

Okay my computer, which was given to me is programmed to wipe away everything to a certain point when it is turned off. So i have to reinstall my web browser everytime i get on it. Which is fine but lately it's been acting up.

The default browser on my computer is Internet Explorer. I usually use the IE browser to get on Google in order to access FireFox and download it; here's the problem(s). First IE suddenly stopped letting me access Google everytime i would try it would send me to the Cannot Find Server page that says "Page cannot be displayed" You know like when your internet is cut off so i had to start using Bing to get to FireFox.

Then for some reason IE started displaying a stripped down version of the Mozilla site. My default IE is an old version and doesn't have Flash Player so i figured that was the problem but it wasn't doing that before. But i didn't fret because i could still download FireFox from the Mozilla site even in it's stripped down state, but now IE stopped letting me download FireFox from Mozilla all together.

When i attempt to download FireFox from Mozilla the same Cannot Find Server page that pops up when i try to use Googl... Read more

This evening i received an email from an unknown source which had an attatchment (.pif). I stupidly opened it. I subsequently ran a virus check using Housecall's online virus scan and it has shwon that there is a worm on my system which is known as 'FIZZER A'. Housecall says it in uncleanable. If anybody can help with this situation i would really appreciate it, i'm terrified to turn my comp of incase it wipes the hard drive or something. Please help :(((

Answer:URGENT HELP NEEDED!

The worm spreads via e-mail and includes its own SMTP engine to bypass any security your e-mail client may have. Fizzer also spreads via Kazaa, a popular file-sharing application. The worm establishes its own accounts on Internet Relay Chat (IRC) and AOL Instant Messenger, in order to await further instructions from the virus author. Fizzer attempts to disable any antivirus program running at the time of infection. Systems infected with Fizzer could be used in distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks on other computers. Fizzer includes a keystroke-logging Trojan horse, which can be used to steal passwords words and credit card information. Because Fizzer spreads via e-mail and Kazaa, contains a keystroke-logging Trojan horse, and could be used in a DDoS attack, this worm rates a 7 on the ZDNet Virus Meter. How it worksFizzer arrives as e-mail with several possible subject lines and body texts. The From: address can be forged and therefore should not be trusted. Fizzer's attached files contain one of the following extensions: .com, .exe, .pif and .scr. If a user opens the attached file or otherwise activates the worm, three files are added to the Windows directory:Most antivirus software companies have updated their signature files to include this worm. This will stop the infection upon contact and in some cases will remove an active infection from your system. For more information, see Central Command, F-Secure, McAfee, MessageLabs, Sophos, Symantec, or Trend Micro.

Two problems:

1. Wireless router - I temporarily disabled the wireless ability on my router two weeks ago by accident, so immediately tried to correct it but the family computer wouldn't turn on stupid dell.. I used an ethernet cable to connect to the router and turned wireless back on. I hadn't used the wireless since then as I went on holiday a couple of hours after. Low and behold I get back and wireless isn't working, I have tried restarting the router manually, restarting the router through the control console, reconfiguring the router from factory settings. Wireless just won't work. The router is a belkin G+ router

2. My main desktop now has an exceptionally long boot time it loads up into the bios start screen and then seems to freeze and you can hear it power down ,then 5 minutes later it will continue with boot. It gets frozen between the boot screen and xp screen and after that it is perfectly fine.

Well I can't picture exactly what is going on there. I have never had a problem with formatting using the XP CD, maybe you selected a wrong option somewehre, hard to say, as far as I know that's pretty independant of what is actually on the hard drive(s) that are in the computer....

Anyhow you could try making a bootdisk win98 and putting format.com and fdisk on it and just doing it that way. Windows XP shoud automatically be able to convert it durring install if you want NTFS.

If your not sure how to make a bootdisk with win98 this is what you do...

1. Create the bootable disk:
Put a floppy disk in your drive. Go to windows explorer->right click on your floppy drive (a:\) -> select format->select the check box that says "system files"->click format->click yes.

2. Add format.com and fdisk on it
Click start->find ->select c:\ ->type in the file you need->click search
(copy it to the floppy):
When you find the file you need, click copy and then paste it onto your floppy disk.

3. Fdisk(wipe out your partition)
Keep the floppy in your drive, restart and wait for it to boot until you see the a:\ prompt. (if it doesn't boot and just boots your OS, try going into the BIOS and changing the boot order so that the floppy drive is before the hard drive).
Now type fdisk and press enter->press y and then enter->select "delete non-dos partition" (or similar, sorry I havn't done it in a wh... Read more

Well, last night I was faffing around with the user accounts, and I deleted a couple. I don't know if this is relevant or not to the problem, but here it is;

I rebooted my computer this morning afer I made changes to the start up, I know it wasn't anything to do with anything I did in there, as I have done that many many many times before.

Before it gave me the logon screen a message box popped up saying that I could not be logged on as my password and domain or something were incorrect. So I clicked ok and it took me to the normal logon screen. There is normally an account for my wife, my sister in law and before I removed them, my two lodgers. The difference was in this that there was only a user account for Administrator. So I tried to log on, but whenever I put in a password I thought it was, it wasn't.

So I tried logging on without a password, and it says I cannot access my account due to account restrictions
Is there a way to fix this?

I know this subject has been posted on here before, but no one has given sufficient answers, so if anyone knows and wants to share the solution, please help me!

Thanks guys and gals

Hi all new here

The boss' computer has went down and this message is displayed at start up. C:\windows\system32\system missing or corrupt. Windows wont boot. I've looked around on the forum and found a few fixes but the problem is we have no recovery disk of any kind and no backup disk (ducks to avoid intense lectures). Is there anything I can do or will he need to take it to the manufacturer or place he bought it.

OS is XP SP2 if this helps but beyond that I have no other specs.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

ok, couple of things, take the hard drive out and attach it to another pc that is the same make and model and operating system on it, you can make the drive a slave, then copy the "system" file from that pc to the slave hard drive.

thne you can just reinsert the hard drive back in the pc and it will boot up, remember it has to be the same pc.

i have done this before and it works

Braviax.exe and Ntos.exe which are files infected. It reports i have various trojan horses. I am accessing the machine remotely at the minute but i am visiting the site in the next hour or so.

Yesterday I decided to install the latest Windows Updates. After doing so, I experienced some lag and some programs wasnt working, I left it. This morning I decided I wanted to uninstall the Updates, I started to do so, but they only removed 1 by 1 requiring a restart every time. Finally I got fed up and decided to do a System Restore to the previous Friday (16th). After that, when my computer restarts, I get just a black screen and my cursor, I can move my cursor, but cannot select anything. Ive tried repairing and reinstalling Windows XP by booting from the CD, but it hasnt worked. In the middle of my first attempt to reinstall Windows XP, System Restore appeared and said the restore was successful. I carried on with the installation and have tried repairing a fresh start of Windows Aswell. Again, the same blank screen with the cursor. Ive tried entering in safe mode and last good settings. Safe mode loads up but I cant select anything, there is no start menu. The same for safe mode with networking and safe mode with command prompt. I really dont want to have to format my drive again, I have thousands of files which I dont have backed up, tons of software and customisations. Please help me!

I have a Vista computer. I went to the microsoft website and downloaded 'Visual c++ 2008 express edition'.The setup came up. It began downloading all of the 9 different components (96mb in total). It did this and once it had finished (without me doing anything) it proceeded to install each of the components. But it does not work and I get this error message:Setup could not install the following component:Microsoft .NET Framework v3.5 SP1Setup did not attempt to install the following components:then it lists the other 7 components, so I think it must have installed the first component. Can anybody help me? ok so last night i turned off my comp and everything was normal. but this morning when i wake up i turned on the com but the monitor was just black and nothing came up. i tried checking the plugs and cables and all that but everything was just as normal. the cpu was still running and the indicator lights on the cpu are on but not blinking. there were no weird sounds. everything just seem normal but the monitor displays nothing. and i couldn't turn the cpu off unless i unplug it. it seems like the monitor cannot detect the graphic settings or something but i'm a newb so i'm not sure.

could anyone help and give suggestion as in what's going on? the nearest comp shop is miles away from my place and i don't have the necessary transport to get my cpu there so i hope it can be solved at home if possible. >.<

thanks in advance.

Hi there,

I'm trying to fix my fathers computer which is a Dell Desktop running on Windows XP using window eyes screen reader. The problem started when we couldn't start the computer at all we kept getting the NTLDR error. I followed the steps to fix that, (copied it from the disk) but then after that we keep getting the hal.dll error. Before the first error started, I had used comodo system cleaner on the computer as it had become very slow and kept crashing. I also used the delete duplicate files. Finally on the same day he had received an email from avast saying one of the messages he had received contained a very suspicious extension. We deleted that email without opening it.

I've tried the fixboot, options, I've run the chkdsk which found no problems but when I run the bootcfg/rebuild, it finds no windows installation and basically I can't get any further than that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as my father is blind and re-installing XP would not be ideal as he knows his way around the files currently on there and also he has various programs for the blind downloaded and installed which would be very difficult to replace.

thanks Yazd

Answer:hal.dll urgent help needed.

Pls clarify, am I correct in thinking that the computer will not now load Windows even in Safe Mode.
If that is correct where does the process actually get to and what exactly is the message on the screen
Also pls provide the exact model of the Dell

Check if it will boot to Safe Mode with Command Prompt and then see this

Question: urgent help needed

I am trying to access my companies website files through ftp, but the files are not being displayed as icons, only as text. There is also a warning from the provider (BT) telling me that changing any files could be illegal etc.. I have done this without any problem on the works computer which runs Win'98. I am using XP. So far I have tried deleting cookies and all temporary internet Files, I have also turned off Firewall in security settings in the 'connect to' sub directory. Could this simply be a a case of changing the view options? I need Icons, not text!!

Answer:urgent help needed

What is your ftp program? There should be an option there to do what you want.If you are getting there via the ftp option in IE, what is the version?(I am not quite sure, but you may not get many answers because of the title of your thread - people seem to react against it. But as there are so many new posters each day, I try to give an answer if I can.)

im having major problems with my dell inspiron 1545 laptop. ill try be a s breif but as descriptive as needed. i recently carried out a full dell system restore due to the computer freezing. once the restore had been completed the laptop then played up ont the start up with a blue screen carrying out a system dump. once this had finished the laptop operated asif it was brand new?

It then downloaded some automatic updates when connected to the internet and i downloaded vlc media player and everything seemed fine. i then shut down the laptop once more.

on start up the laptop will not proceed past the windows error recovery page!!??!! no matter what option i choose, in any of the menus either by hitting F2 F12 or F5. non of the repair tools work or anything??

the laptop just processes the choice and temporarily reboots and brings me straight back to the windows error recover page.

So i dont know whats going on? is my hard drive still ok? its still saying i have windows 7 but wont load it!

do i need a recovery disk? re install windows?

im not sure, hopefully someone out the might have some sort of idea or advice that i can take to getting it sorted.

any suggestions are welcome

Kind regards

Brett

Answer:Urgent help needed!!!!

Welcome Bret,
Not much that I can do but take an educated guess. You had a problem which resulted in you making a restore. This resulted in a blue screen and the problem continued. It seems to be a hardware problem with the computer. It can be the hard drive; as well as many other problems.
Do you hear any beeps when you try to boot? Try with speakers on.
