PS3 BT headset quit working...

Question: PS3 BT headset quit working...

I just bought a PS3 Bluetooth headset and an IOgear micro usb bluetooth dongle. Originally I installed the software provided with the dongle, but after reading on the net discovered that using the WINCOMM drivers provided by Broadcom was the better. I installed the software and drivers, paired the headset, and everything seemed to be working fine, for a day at least. I was talking to a friend of mine via Xfire and left to make dinner. I put the headset in it's charging cradle. When I came back I reconnected with the headset and called my friend again. He could hear me, but I couldn't hear him at all. I checked the Xfire settings and the Vista control panel sound settings. Everything was as it should be. I then unpaired and re-paired the headset. Same result, mic worked fine, but no sound through the speaker. I know the speaker is still functional because it still sends the audio indicators when it connects and disconnects. I tried unpairing and re-pairing the headset multiple times (only once did it ask for the passkey). When this didn't work, I uninstalled the drivers and WINCOMM software, reinstalled using the same software, and still the same results. Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: After yet again, uninstalling and installing drivers and software, I discovered that when I connect my headset, only the Audio Gateway becomes active, and not the 'Headset' in Bluetooth devices. See no way to disassociate or associate the headset with the 'Headset' device. See no way to disable Audio Gateway completely. Just a reminder, everytime I have re-paired my headset, it has not asked for the passkey since the original discovery despite uninstalling everything I can think of.

Preferred Solution: PS3 BT headset quit working...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have 2 headsets both from different companies, one from Andrea the other from Altec Lansing. I have them plugged into the front ports of my tower. My computer detects them both and says that they are working. However, I can hear out of them, but I cannot say anything. It does not hear me at all. I've tried various testing procedures and it doesn't detect anything.

What do I do?

Answer:Headset detected, not working (2nd headset)

Hi Cdn, The Vista default setting under audio and microphone is rear line in. Right Click the speaker
icon in your task bar or system tray. Click on the Recording tab at the top. Make sure that Front Mic.
is enabled and has a green check mark next to it. Click Apply and Okay. Try it now.

I have tried 2 different headsets using front ports of my computer. The headsets are detected by the computer and I can hear fine out of them, but no voice is detected. I have tried numerous tests and other small things, but nothing seems to work. The headsets are supposed to be working properly according to the system.

What do I do?

While installing a game from a cd, my DVD rom (just 2 month old, until now working fine) literally quit. It no longer reads cd's. Neither will the tray slide out unless I go to My computer/D-drive/eject. The whole system noticably slows down while pondering this eject task.

Device manager cheerfully tells me the drive is working fine. Windows troubleshooter suggests my drivers may be "corrupted".

Should I reinstall the drivers from the installation cd?
Anything else I can try?

Thanks.

Question: USB quit working

My USB quit working and I can't figure out how to fix it.  I use Windows XP.  Everything has been working fine since I bouth the machine two years ago.  A couple days ago I plugged in a thumb drive (which I have used many times before) and was told the "device was not recognized" by windows.  The thumb drive still works at my office.  Now my printer is "not recognized" either.  I am not terribly computer savy, do I have serious problems, or is there an easy fix for this? Thanks

Answer:USB quit working

I think the patio's (another forum member) regimen is called for here.  Open Device Manager.  Go down to Universal Serial Bus controllers and expand that section.  Right click on each item and uninstall it.  Close Device Manager and restart your computer and let Windows reinstall the USB drivers.  Now, see whether your computer recognizes your USB devices (flash drive, printer, etc.).

Hello,I have a Dell c610 notebook. Windows 2000  The cd-rom quit working.(NEC DVD+RW ND-5100A) It will not read a disk. I can't find an updated driver on the internet. I have unistalled, reinstalled, trouble shot, etc.  Everything shows OK. Took some advice to remove filters from reg.  No filters showed, so I did not delete anything.  After doing a search, the upper filter was located a few files down and the lower filter was located way down in the Enum folder in the Modem file. I don't know what that means or much about working in the reg.But I recently switched from dial up to cable Internet, which was around the same time the cd-rom stopped working.Could there be a connection, what is your advice on fixing the problem?  The floppy disk drive module works fine when it is in the same slot.

Question: Mic quit working.

It was working, and it quit, so I messed with the Recording Control in the Volume Control menu. I changed it from Microphone to Rear Mic. This worked for a while. Recently, that has also stopped working, and I can't get it to work again. I did not change any settings before it stopped working both times. It just quit. It is not the microphone. I have 2, and have tested both on different computers, and they work just fine. I have tried uninstalling my audio driver and reinstalling it. I have a Sigma Tel sound card. It is just the microphone that isn't functioning. I can hear just fine. Please help

i have about a 1 yr old computer here. the dvd/cd rom just up and quit reading anything. the green light blinks trying to read it, but then there is nothing. it's an Hp computer. it has lightscribe, and the device manager says it's working properly, which is not the case. any ideas on what i can run or check to see if i can get this up and running again or am i going to have to install a new one? daughter is graduating soon, and i kinda need to do a cd and some songs for open house. thanks for any input here.

Answer:dvd/cd rom quit working

Here's a "quick and dirty" fix that works sometimes: go into the Device Manager, right click on the drive and select Uninstall. Reboot. This causes Windows to 're-install' the device which sometimes 'resets' its functionality. If this doesn't work, try booting to the drive; this will tell you if it's a Windows/software problem, or a possible problem with the drive itself. Have you tried the drive in Safe Mode? This can also tell you if maybe it's some type of software problem, or if it's an issue in the Windows 'core'. What about a system restore to a date before you noticed the problem? Or starting with the Last Known Good Configuration? And then there's Adrynalyne's registry fix: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=145532 This mainly applies to CD/DVD drives that have disappeared from Windows Explorer/My Computer, but it may help you too.
So, there's some things to chew on; let us know how things go. Good luck!

I've been using Waterfox for a few months now with good results. Yesterday it became unresponsive. It opens and shows all the toolbar info but won't go to any web address. Totally unresponsive.

Firefox still works, as does Google Chrome.

I was burning a backup CD (it worked as usual). I went to burn a second one and the application couldn't find my drive. None of my apps can find the drive, nor can <my computer>. Both of my optical drives show up in the device manager with a yellow exclamation point. I've tried a total of 4 different drives, two different ribbon cables, uninstalling/reinstalling the drives, updating drivers, switching the IDE slots with my hard drives--none of these things make any difference. I get an error message - code 32 - a different driver may be providing functionality.

Okay, I have tried everything...yes, everything...HotFixes, Uninstalling Drivers, Reinstalling drivers, MS Community suggestions, Manufacturer Help Boards...everything I can think of, and I still can not get the USB ports to start recognizing any devices...not
printer, not FitBit, not portable drives, wireless mouses, etc. Please help...
Nothing has been done to the computer, aside from trying to fix this problem, in terms of installing new software, except Important or Critical Downloads from MS, and I've even tried using System Restore to go back to a previous date...but other than that,
nothing has been added to or modified in terms of software.
I have an HP 15t u200 x360, running 8.1 64 bit, with i5-5200U, 12 GB RAM and I just can't get this figured out.
Please help...if I can just get the dang thing to recognize a portable drive, I would like to transfer my personal files and then do a factory restore to see if that helps, but I don't want to lose my files.

Hello.
I have just recently reinstalled Windows 98SE using a DISE that came with my computer. After installing the disc and supposedly setting my computer to original factory settings, I no longer get connected to the internet. Every time Internet Explorer opens , I get a message that says " res:/C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SHDOCLC.DLL\dnserror.htm.. I was told buy my ISP server that there was a problem with my Internet Explorer so I thought by upgrading to Windows ME it would fix the problem. It did not help. I am using a cable modem to connect. I also tried using my dial-up modem thinking it might work but I keep getting the same message. Please let me know what the problem may be and what can I do to fix it. I am not too computer literate so please explain in terms I can understand.

Question: Modem quit working

Hi everyone
I have a Tyani810 mobo, a 533mhz celoron, that I'm running win98 on, a Aopen FM56 PM modem, thats PNP,PCI, with no jumpers for the ports,or irq's
Now I'm using an old PB 120mhz that I have for a backup. And I'm using that AopenFM56 PM modem in this rig. It works great in this rig.
Here's my problem. I had this modem in the other rig, and it worked great till about a week ago. That was when it mysteriously quit working. The other rig just could'nt get it to respond to it.
Here's what I did to correct the problem.
1. I tried to uninstall it, I went into system, device manager, deleted it, and uninstalled the drivers, and restarted the rig. It did'nt detect it like it would normally, and then I manually reinstalled it. But the rig still could'nt get it to respond to it. I tried this a coulple of more times, with no luck getting it to work.
2. I then installed a registry that it worked under. still no luck.
3. I changed the slot it was in.
4. I scanned for viruses, and found none.
5. I deleted windows reinstalled it, the mobo drivers, and still no luck.
6. I repeated the steps above again, and still no luck.
I checked for any conflicts and finding none still no luck. Some of the attempts got a message that it could'nt open the port. But most of time it told me that the modem was'nt responding. And after installing the moden it shows up in the control panal, and in system, devices.
Now keep in mind that I'm using ... Read more

Hi Halo,
I think you were the one who pointed me towards the magic wand, which I loved. Then it quit. The wand was still there, but when I wanted to delete something and couldn't, the wand didn't work anymore. I tried turning it off from the taskbar and the double clicking on unlocker.exe, but it never reloaded again. Now I'm wondering if it quit working or if I'm trying to use it for the wrong things. I want to delete an NPROTECT bin I ran into, and it can't because the file names don't point to anything. I can't delete the whole folder either. And there have been several other occasions when I've wanted to use it this past week and can't. Any ideas?
Thanks

For some reason my sound has quit working. I have no idea why. It was working earlier. The strange thing is if I test the speakers, sound comes out but if I do anything else that requires sound, it doesn't work. The only thing I could think of is I just installed a webcam and ever since then it has not worked. Maybe it wasn't working before that, I don't know. I have uninstalled the webcam and still nothing.

I have unplugged the cables and plugged them back in. I have not tried reinstalling the sound card yet. I have a feeling that will not fix it. I am using the computer in my sig. I am also using Logitech x-530 speakers.

If this is in the wrong place, I'm sorry.

Answer:Sound has quit working

Well the first thing you would have is reinstalling the sound drivers. Check the Device Manager is the sound card listed? Is it listed as working? Do you have the system sounds on?

Seems like there were some sort of changes to network services on the first of the year. My Blu HD lte (windows 8.1) was working just fine with FreedomPop on sim1 - for data only and Tracfone on sim2 - for phone, text, & data.
January 2nd, I noticed nothing working anymore. I was able to able to get Tracfone working (as a phone, text, & data) only by making the Tracfone (#2) sim the sim for data connection. I have not been able to get FreedomPop to work. The phone shows "no service" if I try to make the FreedomPop sim the data connection. Did Tracfone go to voice over LTE or something like that? And where did my FreedomPop go?
BTW: my FreedomPop Android and FreedomPop Mingle hotspot still work just fine with LTE service.

Answer:IE10 quit working.

Try starting it with all the add-ons disabled. Start >> Run:

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -extoff

Do a full system antimalware scan.

(If you really deleted it, then that could be a major problem and it may not even be fixable unless you have restore points. Never delete any program, but always uninstall. It is not at all the same thing, and installing a program means putting files in various places in the system - even the majority of an installed program may not be in Program Files. If you just delete, you leave parts all over the place and registry entries.)

Is the touchpad disabled? If not, disable it and see what happens.
Also, you said this just started happening - what is new or different since the last time it worked properly (ie, new hw, new sw, virus, error, etc)? And last, have you tried other usb devices just to make sure the port is working properly?

i moved my pc tower a few inches forward, then my keyboard (ps/2) and mouse (usb) quit working. All usbs quit too. keyboard and mouse work on another pc. I checked for loose connections, rebooted, cleared cmos, and checked for leaking or blown capacitors, and found nothing.
Does this mean my mobo is finished? Can t figure it out as it seems so unusual that both ps/2 and usbs would go at the same time with no warning or problems earlier.
Does anyone have any ideas, suggestions or advice?
My mobo is a ms-6590 kt6 delta series

Welcome to TSF sweetgirl. Please list your computer specs be as precise as possible (e.g. name and model of motherboard, cpu, ram, etc.)
Have you checked Device Manager for any conflicts? you will see a yellow question mark. Open your case (unplug power before doing so) and make sure all cables are seated securely.

Hello,

Two of my 3 usb ports quit working suddenly. I have 2 on the left side & 1 on the right side of my Toshiba laptop. I have searched to see if I can get this resolved.

I found these 2 posts that seemed successful. 2 questions - as suggested in the 1st post I created a "restore" point. Opened up Notepad. I don't understand the part about "You should have 3 boxes on the bottom in NOTEPAD." Am I creating the boxes?

I am very cautious at proceeding because I just had my hd replaced again. I was on here when I had problems trying to resolve that when I followed some instructions given to me. That is when I completely lost my h/d which it could have been something I didn't follow correctly due to misunderstanding on my part. I've been told to be very careful when doing anything with the registry which I know nothing about. And now this issue has come up.

My 2nd ? is - do I need to do one or the other of these 2 posts? I noticed the dates these were originally posted but since these were reposted recently I will assume it's still a good solution.

My arrow keys, Home, End, Page Up, & Page Down keys quit sending ASCII codes to the OS. When I press and hold the Shift key, these keys work as they should. I have verified the Scroll and Number Locks were off. I also hooked up an external USB keyboard and experienced the same problem. I used a program called SharpKeys (installed after problem started) and verified that the keys were not sending an ACSII code when depressed. The problem is not software specific. Any suggestions?

ECF1956, my feeling since you've tried two KBs is that you have a nasty. A worm/trojan can intercept signals and redirect them to oblivion. Be aware that a virus and a Trojan are similar, but not the same. Many times, an AV detects one it can't clean, other times, it gets missed entirely. If you need to clean one, Superantispyware (info only. I?m not paid for recommendation) can do the job and you can get it free @:http://www.superantispyware.com/among other places. They have a Vista compatible version if needed. Dunno about Windows 7 or later. If it turns out that you need to use it, be sure to update Superantispyware prior to running and disable 'restore' (restart after cleaning) so the nasty doesn't get put back. They just released a new update recently and it changes all the time. Things are in a constant state of flux. The restore thing is critical. May not be your deal at all, but won't hurt anything to try.HTH.Ed in Texas.

Hi

Last night my sound just quit working.
I went through everything and they all said that my sound was working correctly, but no sound came out.

Rebooted still the same thing, checked all my plugs, Device Manager, tested etc.
No sound.

All dialogs said this device is working normally.

Finally I gave up and restored my system using my last backup image (this was made the day before, I'm doing it every other day) and when I got done my sound was back and working normally.

I went over everything I had done leading up to this and I couldn't remember anything I had done that had any connection with sound at all.

This was clearly software related but I have no idea what the cause was.

These are the things that drive me crazy, I think from now on I'm really going to make a point of creating a system image at least once a week.

I keep thinking of what I might be going through today trying to get my sound to work if I hadn't had the image to restore to.

It only takes about 15 minutes if I keep my System Drive small and put all my software in other drives.

I'm not entirely sure this goes here but I remembered that I had problems before and this website helped me immensely. Okay my problem started a few days ago. I play a lot of online games and host servers and things so I sort of know things about Port forwarding. Anyway I've forwarded my ports before and using PFChecker made sure they worked, which they did. For a long time. But recently I started getting really high latency when I played some of my games and used Windows Media Center. And I figured out something was wrong when I could no longer host a minecraft server.

After frustrating myself for some time I reinstalled PFchecker and ran it. It came up saying that my router was unpingable and that my ports were closed or unreachable. On a side note my headset's mic quit working for no reason. I doubt that has anything to do with it but I'm pretty sure it happened around the same time.

Every so often a shortcut on my desktop will quite working, specifically, one that opens an Internet Web site. When I double click on the icon, the hour glass will appear for about three seconds and then quits without opening the program. The same occurs when I go to the progam men and try to open it from there and also when I right click and select "open". What gives? It is really annoying! The biggest culprit is the ITunes icon.

I have a Dell Inspiron 5150 Laptop with "SigmaTel C-Major Audio" ..(codecs?) I guess. I'm not sure what information I should provide for further assistance, but all of a sudden my sound is not working this morning when I boot up my computer.

I looked at obvious volumes and whatnot, opened up the device manager, and there were no exclamations and properties showed that all devices were working properly.

When inserting the plug for speakers into the headphone jack, you can here some feedback-ish noises. When I pull it in and out of the jack slowly, you can hear the scratching noise from the speaker. Ok- so the speakers probably aren't blown because when I plug speakers in, the onboard speakers made that crackling noise. Also, despite them being blown, the external speakers would play.

Ok. I think that is all.
Thanks

Answer:USB ports just quit working.

Have a look at your mobo drivers.
It could be that a microsoft update has overwritten them.
Go into device manager and check that there are no problem devices.
You can also look at the error logs to try and get more info.

Hi

I posted about this before, but once again my sound quit working.

Last night when I shut down my computer it was working, this morning when I booted up it wasn't.
I restarted a couple of times (which has worked before when this happened sometimes) but no luck.

Everything says it's working Device Manager, the Sounds Panel all say there is sound but I don't hear any.

I restored my last System Image from the day before yesterday and the sound is back up and working.

I have no idea what makes it stop, or why it doesn't show that it isn't working any place, when I run the test, it indicates that the speakers are playing but no sound comes out.

This is the third time I've had to restore because of this problem.

I never had this happen in Windows 8 so somehow this is related to something in Windows 10, I just don't have any idea what.

Mike

Answer:Sound quit working, Again?

Did you try muting and unmuting it? I have found that some devices (and Soundblasters were notorious for this) would sometimes get stuck in a mute state, and you have to physical mute and unmute them to make them work.

If that's not it, make sure select and unselect other input channels, since sometimes mic or line inputs can override the outputs.

I have an A60 that's about 3 years old. It's been sitting in the same spot all that time--this machine hasn't had any kind of physical stresses. Yesterday, out of the blue,  it just stopped outputting video to the monitor. I rebooted a few times, nothing. I connected my laptop to the monitor to make sure it was working--the monitor works fine.  The computer doesn't sound any different than it had before. Sounds like it's running. DVD drawer opens just fine. But since I can't see anything on a monitor, I'm not sure what might be going on. I'm no expert, but I'm not a complete novice at poking around inside a computer. I'd like to see if I can troubleshoot the video card, maybe try reseating it or something. Does that sound like a reasonable first step?  Any other troubleshooting ideas would be very much appreciated.  Thanks,Dutch

I recently updated the software for my UPS Worldship program using the CD that they sent me and everything was fine.
My son burned a couple of CD's earlier that same day and both drives worked. The next day I tried to use the CD and I discovered that neither one is working.

When I go to "My Computer", it only shows the A: and C: drives.
I restarted the computer and did a search for new hardware but it still does not recognize them. I checked the ribbon and power cables and all is OK.
Both will open & close and light up when a CD is in them.

Any Ideas how to fix this problem?

It is a HP Pavilion 751 n (only about 6 months old) running windows XP.

I was enjoying Firefox because when I used it SpyBot and AdAware had little to worry about, as did my antivirus.

But now when I click the Firefox icon on my desktop I get the Firefox Window, and it shows at the top right that it is searching, and at the bottom left that it is looking for start.mozilla.org, but it never finds it.

I have, more than once, tried to remove Firefox through Add and Remove, and then install Firefox again. But Firefox still won't work. I have installed using the online installer and also using my Firefox CD.

I may have installed Firefox over Firefox without first removing the first Firefox. Anyhow, after I use Add/Remove to remove Firefox, and it accordingly leaves the Add/Remove list, and I search for files having the word Firefox in them, I get about the same list that I get before I "removed" Firefox, as though there was no removal. However, when I click my Firefox desktop icon, I get the message that Firefox.exe has been changed or removed. When I search for firefox.exe, I get:

Hi,

Friend of mine called me the other day since both of his memory sticks quit working. XP won't recognized them. He tried different brands and no go. XP won't recognized them regardless of the brand.
He tried same sticks on different xp machine and they are working fine.
He tried different kinds of devices (usb cam and printer) int the same usb port where memory stick wouldn't work, and both usb cam and printer are working fine.
I have tried upgrading the drivers and reinstalling it with no go.

Anyone has any idea on what this could be?
I am stummped.

Two things i want to try is to delete registry keys or just reinstall the XP , but i wanted to see if anyone has any better ideas.

System restore was off so that is not an option.

Thanks in advance

Answer:USB Stick quit working on XP

First step, Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore. Create a restore point and name it something like "Before USB Fix". This is to bail you out if something goes wrong during the following process and makes things worse.

Create a file with NOTEPAD containing the following lines and save it as FIX.REG

-------------------------- Use text after this line --------------------------------
REGEDIT4
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment]"DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES"="1"

-------------------------- Use text before this line --------------------------------

Double click on FIX.REG and say yes to the Merge Into Registry question.

Unplug ALL USB devices.
Open Device Manager.
View, Show Hidden Devices.
Uninstall all devices under USB Controllers.
Uninstall all devices under Disk Drives that you know are not present.
Uninstall all devices under Storage Volumes. Say no to any reboot prompts until you are finished. Also, if a Storage Volume doesn't uninstall, ignore it and move to the next one.
If you have a yellow ? with unknown devices, uninstall all of the entries there as well.

When this is done, reboot TWICE.

Reconnect the USB devices and see if they're recognized properly.

NOTE: If you have a USB keyboard and/or mouse, you'll have to modify the instructions and leave enough parts for those to function. I don't have one yet, so I haven't had time to modify the ... Read more

I have a HP w2408 monitor with built in speakers. The speakers quit working and for the life of me, I can't figure out how to get them back on. They were a problem when the computer was installed (app 7 weeks ago) and I don't know what they did to get them to work. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Answer:Speakers quit working

No sound from monitor speakers
If the built-in speakers on the monitor do not produce sound, perform each step that follows, testing for sound after each step, until you can hear sound:
Close the software program you are using that is missing sound. Test for audio using another software program.
If the sounds are normal when using other software programs, the issue is with the software on the computer, and not the speakers in the monitor. If sound is missing from other software, continue using this procedure.Check the cable connection. If the monitor-to-computer connection is a VGA cable (usually blue on both ends), an additional audio cable is needed between the monitor and the computer. Check that the audio cable is connected properly.Try to adjust the volume higher using the monitor front-panel volume button.Using the buttons on the monitor, navigate through the onscreen display (OSD) menu to find audio or speaker settings and enable the speakers.Adjust the volume higher in Windows from the computer. Click the volume icon from the taskbar (lower right corner of the screen next to the time), and raise the volume to about 75%.If the monitor is connected to a computer using an HDMI cable, the HDMI connection can be used for audio as well as video. Ensure HDMI audio is selected as the main audio output in the operating system (for example, Windows Audio Properties in Control Panel). For more information on this subject, please read Using HDMI Audio with a Desktop Computer .

Windows XP CD-DVD drive quit working. Had the hard drive replaced, downloaded drives for my printers, wireless mouse. They are working fine. The CD drive checks out to be working fine and up to date driver for the unit is fine, but if you double click or install a cd in the drive, it tells you to insert cd in drive. HELP.

Question: AVAST quit working

I have had avast free for 10 years. 3 days ago it stopped working. It will not FIX nor will it START back up. I have gone into Windows "services" and tried to manually start it. It says it starts and then stops. Avast no longer appears in the programs list in CONTROL PANEL. It will not delete from C:\Programs. I have downloaded a new copy of the free version and also the paid version but neither will install. I wrote to avast on Tuesday and they still have not replied. I am using windows 7 64 bit
I scanned using Malwarebytes and also security essentials. No problems

Answer:AVAST quit working

Have you tried using the Avast uninstall utility (aswclear.exe) ?

Hi there!

On a laptop running XP Pro SP3, malware populated the wallpaper along with a gramatically incorrect error that said I need to install an anti-virus "imideatly" - so I have used many, many tools (ComboFix, MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware, just to name a few) and finally seem to have gotten rid of the malware (after running SuperAntiSpyware). However, running any of the scans before and/or after the Malware and the program abruptly closes. It doesn't seem to matter what program it is - MalwareBytes only runs for 2 seconds and it closes, SuperAntiSpyware gets through about 200 registry keys and it closes. HijackThis opens and closes. Once the program closes, it is no longer accessible. I get an error that reads "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have permissions to access the item." The icons/shortcuts used to change from their little pictures to generic looking icons when that error would be shown, but now they stay looking like their little normal pictures, but the cannot access error still pops up. There is also a Rundll error that pops up on each startup and I'm not sure if its related - the dll is kbdlbd.dll. All this happens while logged in as Administrator in both SafeMode and Normal mode. I do have access to an install CD.

I was able to see one scan produced two finds prior to closing...

Welcome to TSF :)
Download TDSSKiller.zip and extract TDSSKiller.exe to your desktop
Execute TDSSKiller.exe by doubleclicking on it.
Press Start Scan
If Malicious objects are found, ensure Cure is selected (it should be by default)
Click Continue then click Reboot now
Once complete, a log will be produced at the root drive which is typically C:\

For example, C:\TDSSKiller.2.4.0.0_24.07.2010_13.10.52_log.txt
Attach that log, please.

This seems to be a common problem but I have not found an answer yet.  My keyboard worked fine and then the very next time I booted up the x, c, n, a, f, and comma , keys quit working so have to use the on screen keyboard to type. What is the solution?   I have a V5-571 using Windows 10

Hey guys, I had homegroup working between my two pc's w/o any issues. Yesterday I discovered they were no longer working.
After looking around I learned that 3 services need to be running for homegroup to work.
Peer Name Resolution, Peer Networking Grouping and Peer Networking Identity Manager.
Peer Networking Identity Manager is the only one running, and if I try to start the other two, Peer Name Resolution gives me error code 0x80630203: 0x80630203 and PN Grouping is dependent on PN Resolution.
To me, the strange thing is, both pc's are not starting these services with the same error code and it seems to have happened to both at the same time.
The only recent changes I can think of is both pc's were recently updated with about 14 windows updates from Update Tuesday and I'm using TeamViewer to control both pc's with one wireless kb and mouse, but almost certain homegroup was working fine while TeamViewer has been installed.
Does anyone have any ideas of how I might resolve this? I've looked thru some of the newly installed updates, but don't see anything that'd make me think it was the cause of this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
skilz853

I have been using a firewire cable 1394 to transfer videos to my computer for years and now it just quit. Any ideas? I am running windows xp. If I turn off the computer, turn on the camera, then restart the computer it will not recognize the camera but then if I turn off the camera, I hear the "chimes" the computer makes when it recognizes the camera. Therefore the cable is good, its just no longer acknowledging its there. Any suggestions? Thanks

Answer:Firewire quit working?

Check Device Manager. If you see a yellow question mark in "network adapters", that will be your Firewire adapter but the driver for it is missing or corrupted. Obtain & install the driver from your laptop or PC maker's website if the Firewire adapter was pre-installed at the factory.

If, however, you fitted the Firewire card since buying the PC, download the driver from the card manufacturer's website.

If re-installing driver makes no difference, you probably need to fit a new Firewire card as the existing one is faulty.

I just recently purchased an i-Buddie XP. So far, it's been a wonderful system for the price. However, I had some odd problems when I tried to run GTA3.

OK, because I only ordered a 20G HD, I decided to try and run it off another comp over my network. It ran perfectly. Obviously, it didn't get 30FPS, but it was very much playable and there where no lags. I was impressed. So, I close it, go off for a bit, then come back to try and play again. It won't open... Every time I try, it beeps on the GTA3 splash screen. When I get out of it, I just get an illegal operation. I bumped the vram up to 16M(yeah, I orignally ran it with only 8) but it still did the same thing. I think I recall this happening with my other computer, but I cant remember what I did to fix it.

ECS Desknote 929
SiS 740 chipset
Athlon XP 2000

Windows 2000 SP2

(I'm going to install Vice city on here once I find a working install disk and see if that'll run...)

I am at wit's end. I have a CD RW and a DVD RW drive and both have quit working. I have tried everything I know to do - unplug one and make the other master, swapped the IDE cables, you name it. When I go to device manager, it shows the drives with the yellow sign with the exclamation point. I have tried uninstall and install, as mentioned I don't know what else to do. The only thing that has really changed is that I installed Norton Antivirus a few days before this started. One of the drives is only a few weeks old, the other I have had for a year or so - I doubt they have both gone bad? I don't have a "spare" to try another out - do you think the cable to the drives is bad? Thanks for any advice.

Recently my USB ports quit working and I can't figure out why.  I have two in the front of my computer and two in the back.  None of them work. Gateway tells me I need a new USB.  Are they all linked somehow that they could all go bad at once?  Gateway originally told me to reinstall my motherboard driver which did nothing.  I have tried several devices with several different cables and nothing works.  If I have to replace the USB port is that something a novice can do or do I need to pay someone to do it?  I have a gateway desktop with Windows ME.  We bought it in 2001.  I am somewhat clueless when it comes to hardware.  Please help.

Answer:USB port quit working

Do they show in Device Manager? Are there any exclamation points by them? Under properties does it show them working properly? Any unusual occurrences prior to this?

Hi,

My language bar just quit working. I am running XP Pro SP2. I keep the bar on the task bar and though it is there it will not allow me to switch to the other language I use nor will it allow me to move from the task bar to the desktop. Any ideas? I have tried turning it off and removing it from the bar, rebooting and trying again to no avail.

donquai

Forgot to mention I was working in Excel at the time. Gotta have that language bar back in working order, makes life so much easier.

Answer:Language bar just quit working

Okay it is there but the only way I can get it to change language is by going into language properties and changing the default language and then rebooting. Something is definitely amiss.

Question: sound quit working

I have another problem with my new computer. I watched a DVD on my computer the other day, and I hooked up the speakers to increase the volume(the sound was working even without the speakers being plugged in). Now the sound won't work with or without the speakers. There is no conflict in Device Manager, so does anyone know what I can do to fix this? Thanks.

Answer:sound quit working

Adjust the volume controls. They may have been tampered with. Sound working without speakers? Straaange.

Computer just decided to shut down the mouse and monitor in the middle of being on line.  When rebooting the monitor and mouse will not work.  The machine is a custom built with one hard drive Intel/AMD, mouse is an optical mouse by Microsoft, the monitor is a flat panel by Dell.  When the computer is turned on it does not sound like it is booting up.  Could it be the hard drive just went?  If so, is there any hope of getting any data on that drive?  Thank you.

Answer:Windows XP custom built computer, Intel/AMD, mouse quit, Dell monitor quit.

This is a weird one.

Problem is on my desktop computer.

The sound was working just fine. I was working on a sound problem on a laptop about the sound being too murky using a new headset using skype for remote calling on the laptop.

All I did was plug the headset into the desktop and make a call through skype. I have a regular cit phone I use for desktop skype calls so I changed the speaker and mike settings (I am quite comfortable with using these settings). I made a test call through the headset, all was well and I unplugged the headset and re-plugged in the speakers.

Later on when I needed sound there was none.

I have checked everything. Nothing is muted. Skype settings have been set to the proper computer settings. I have been through the XP help sound troubleshooter. You can hear the speakers make that "crackling" sound when I plug them in. The headset does not hear anything. Volume is up on the speaker knob on the speakers.

It seems to be a disconnect between the computer and the speakers all of a sudden after that one little test of the headset. I think something somewhere (some sound program) is muting or lowering the sound level but I can't find it.

Any thoughts?

Answer:Very odd situation. Sound quit working

Could you please post a list of your computer's hardware and current audio software and supporting audio driver types.
Also please list make and model of your speaker system and headphones and any outboard supporting amplification or power supplies if you are using any.
Thanks

I have run IE 6.0 in XP Home Edition for a long time and never had a problem until now. Suddenly when I try to read my mail in Outlook Express I get the error message that MSOE.DLL could not be initialized. I have already reloaded 6.0 with no luck. I also downloaded 7.0 and it did not even come with Outlook. I also downloaded Mozzila Firefox and could not find a mail program in it either. What is going on????? I need help....I probably have a zillion spams waiting for me!!!!

Answer:Outlook Express quit working in IE

Hi hbmom89

Thunderbird is the e-mail program for Firefox. It is a separate download.
You're correct, Internet Explorer 7 does not come with Outlook Express.
Have you compacted your folders in Outlook Express?
Do you keep your Inbox empty? If not, move messages you want to keep to folders of your own creation in Outlook Express.

With the Inbox open in Outlook Express,
File > Folder > Compact
You should see a window with a progress bar appear.
Let that process finish without interruption.

See if you can read a message without receiving the error.

If you still receive the error, go to this step:
Close all programs and do a Search for Folders.dbx

Windows XP:

Open My Computer,
Tools > Folder Options > View tab,
under Hidden Files and Folders, verify Show Hidden Files and Folders is selected.
Remove the check mark for Hide Extensions for known file types.
Apply, OK to save and close.

Search:

Start > Search > For Files or Folders > All files and folders,
In the field for: all or part of the file name
Key in:
Folders.dbx
Below that, click on More advanced options
in the field: Type of File, select (All Files and Folders)
place a checkmark in:
Search system folders
Search hidden files and folders
Search subfolders
click Search

Locate and rename the Folders.dbx file to: Folders.old
If there is more than one Folders.dbx file found, rename all of them.

Start Outlook Express and see if the error occurs when you try to open a message.

I have a Samsung Xpress M2070 Laser printer. It is only about two months old. It still has the starter cartridge in it, I have only printed maybe 50 pages wit it. I had a power failure yesterday. After power was restored I get a error message C2-1711 call for service. "An unexpected failure has occurred from CRUM chip at the imaging unit. A service is required if the problem persist. Printing has stopped, all other machine services (if installed) are unaffected.
I found something online that said to remove the cartridge, clean the contact and reinstall. No luck. When you shade a toner should you be able to hear it? I don't hear anything. Possibly just empty but a heck of a coincidence. Also, wouldn't it just say it is empty instead of that other message? Thanks
