Forced to log on with fingerprint

Question: Forced to log on with fingerprint

I am using Windows Vista and recently my computer (Toshiba Satellite) has been forcing me to logon using a fingerprint swipe. The logon screen does not even come up. If I do not use my fingerprint, it goes into BIOS and asks for the password, which I do not know. I have no idea why it started doing this. Any ideas?

Preferred Solution: Forced to log on with fingerprint

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all, I've spent far too long trying to solve this by myself, and need to reach out to someone who might have resolved this issue. I've read tons of similar questions online, and rebooted dozens of times after trying many different things. I have a Carbon Touch 3444-CUU that can't see it's fingerprint reader. It used to work when brand new, but after lots of lenovo and windows updates, it now does not:  I am on Windows 8.1, with all updates. No problems in device manager.Touchchip Fingerprint Coprocessor (WBF advanced mode) installed under Biometric devices fine.Power management set to _not_ turn off device to save power. The bios is 2.61. I suspect the problem is very low-level, because even the BIOS cannot find device when trying to set it up. If I have the lates BIOS, but it can't see the device - what can I do? Thanks everyone..

I have a 1.5 year old Sattelite series A200 (PSAF6A) with inbuilt fingerprint scanner.

Recently I have become unable to use the scanner.
It keeps on coming up with an error "cannot find fingerprint sensor device".

Since it is inbuilt I don't know how I can fix it.

I have not installed anything recently so I don't know what has happened.

Please Help!
Thankyou

Hi

Did you try to reinstall the fingerprint software?
Check the Toshiba page for the latest software version.
Firstly uninstall the previous fingerprint software and reboot the notebook.
Clean the registry using the CCleaner and install the new downloaded version.

Good luck

Hi, I'm a happy owner of a Dell E5270 and on The base plate there's a fingerprint sensor. However, when I install the recommended drivers there are no biometric devices. What is visible (in device manager) is Dell Control Vault w/o fingerprint sensor. Is it possible that there is a sensor but that The system lacks the optional fingerprint unit inside the laptop housing? There are no exclamation Marks in the device manager.
Secondly I've found the Dell DW5811E 3P10Y wwan card for the dell e5270 at a bargain price but i would like to know where to finf the cables in the housing? .

Thx!

I just added a second finger print reader through the docking station for when I have the computer docked, but I am unable to enroll my fingerprints using it.  I am only able to get it to work through the laptop's built-in fingerprint reader.  Everything appears normal:It installed without a problem and appears as fuctioning normally under the device manager.  When I I open the Biometric Devices manager from the control panel it is listed as one of two biometric devices (the other one is the built in fingerprint reader on the laptop). it is listed as "Not enrolled" while the built-in sensor is listed as "Enrolled".When I click on "Use your fingerprint with windows" on the left panel and get the "More than one fingerprint reader was found. Touch the surface of the fingerprint reader that you want to you use." promp, it recognizes that I touched the external reader.I enter Lenovo's Fingerprint Manager Pro software and select a finger to enroll and takes me to the "swipe your finger ont he sensor" window. However:Once I try to swipe the finger ont he sensor, it wont recognize that I am trying to add the fingerprint.  The software reverts to searching for the finger swipe on the built-in sensor isntead of the external one.Thins I have tried that didn't work: 1. Hy,It's my first post here. I got a LENOVO t500 at work to use and I wanted to try to use finger print auth to log in. Its in a domain, but I got local administrator privileges on it. The machine runs 64bit Windows 8.1 Pro.The fingerprint reader driver was missing in the first place (windows identified it as a fingerprint sensor but had no driver). The sensor is an AuthenTec Inc, AES2810. I've tried to install the lenovo driver:http://support.lenovo.com/en/downloads/ds034486But received the error message in the subject about I need to enable the biometric framework.I've also seenhttp://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T420-Windows-8-1-fingerprint-reader/m-p/124...and downloaded-installed an authentec driver successfully, so now device manager shows it and identifies it as it should.. Well I've went to the group policies as it was suggeseted everywhere on the net and turned on the options.I've also checked and found a windows services that had biometrics in it : I've set it to auto-start and started it right away. But even after all of this the fingerprint option is missing in the accounts sign in page in pc settings.I've restarted the machine multiple times (with the real restart )Could you please give me a hint?I've spent a whole day looking for this yesterday.. Have a nice day & Regards,Steve

I have a user who swears that if he places the T61 in his lap (at home or at the airport) and attempts to fingerswipe, it will not work.  If he places the T61 on a flat surface, (even an angled, hard surface) he has no issues.   I have tried to recreate this on my T61 and have not been successful.  I have not physically watched him, at the office, nor has he said anything about issues at the office.  I have not heard of this issue with any of the other 200+ laptops we have configured for FA, but, because the individual in question is my boss and an executive to boot, I cannot convince him that his situation is unique. Has anyone else experienced this issue?  Is there a fix?  Should I tell him he needs to layoff the caffeine?

Hi, I'm having issues getting the configuration to work. The X220t internal fingerprint reader works fine. I got single-sign-on working from boot right into my Windows 8 domain account. However, the external reader from the USB Lenovo Preferred Pro Fingerprint Keyboard (conntect via USB on Ultra-Dock) does not work at all. It's recognized fine and shows up in Windows Device Manager without any issues. It does use the same driver as the internal one. Not sure if that is intentional or not. Might be the same hardware. But the Windows Biometrics Settings show that device an "Unavailable". I already resetted the fingerprint data (in BIOS and Windows 8). Note, the external reader worked fine in Windows 7. It stopped working during boot quite a while ago, though. Thus, there might be a BIOS issue as well. The BIOS is set to "external -> internal". Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Hi. I've searched this whole forum and it seems that no one has this problem... I've downloaded the latest fingerprint software (5.8.2.4462).Installed the necessary drivers. (p961b_fprx64_582ww) The driver installed smoothly as well as opening the software, but when I tried to enroll, and this message, "Cannot find fingerprint sensor device", pops up. It did the same thing when tried clicking on the tutorial. I've looked into the setting, but there's no option of enabling or disabling the sensor. The "Bio service" in Device manager is enable and working properly. So I'm just lost... Any hint/help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I am using win 8.1 (fully updated) and used to have working fingerprint logon. Now it stopped working. Suddenly I can not use Lenovo Fingerprint Manager Pro (V 8.01.42(x64)) anymore. Whenever I try to start the application, it asks me for my Windows password, but then responds - "The device is not connected to the computer. Please insert the authentication device." OTH, in the device manager, under Biometric devices, I see Synaptics FP Sensors (WBF) (PID=0017) Also windows fingerprint sign-in option is greyed out. Any hints, what can I check?

Hi, I posted this late last year & got no replies. It is quite irritating because it causes the boot-up to be prolonged whilst the system tells me that the (non-existent) fingerprint device cannot be accessed. I bought a Lenovo M58p Tower system (type: 9965-A3G) which comes as standard with a simple keyboard without a fingerprint scanner device. I downgraded from the supplied Vista to XP Pro using the supplied downgrade discs. In the control panel I have a 'Fingerprint Sensor' icon which of course does nothing when clicked on apart from produce an error message: 'Fingerprint sensor device communication error' for fairly obvious reasons (there is no sensor). Also on boot-up/shutdown the system complains that it cannot access the fingerprint device. Has anyone any idea why the software is installed for the fingerprint device when it doesn't exist on this model & is it safe to simply uninstall the fingerprint software using the XP control panel 'Add or Remove' facility? Does anything else need changing software or BIOS wise? Cheers

Answer:Can I remove Fingerprint software on non-fingerprint device tower PC?

Yes you can remove it, the system must have been prepared for a machine that was originally suppose to ship with a keyboard that has the FPR installed.

Answer:TOSHIBA Fingerprint utility - how to remove fingerprint password?

If I?m remembering well when you create fingerprint you must create password too in case that your fingerprint cannot be ?read? or scanned properly. In this case you can enter Windows using this created password so you cannot say you didn?t done it.

Try to remember which ?word? you have used as password.

Odd that would not be an option listed.  Maybe required additional programming to have that option setup.  Maybe that's a feature Lenovo could release in a future BIOS update or software update since it would be an option I would probably use.  I personally did not get the fingerprint reader on my X220 because I didn't feel I would use it haha but it is a nifty feature. ~Novak

Hi all: We bought our first batch of Lenovo Laptops last year (T61) we set most of these up with a base station and a Fingerprint Scanner Keyboard. Both the Keyboard and Laptop Scanner work fine.BUT when we tried to order more T61s this year we were told they were discontinued and replaced by the T500. When we set these up we can only get the Keyboard to work or the Scanner on the Laptop to work. The Laptop Scanner requires one type of software and the Keyboard requires another, neither software will recognize both scanners. Only one software package was required for the T61, and it worked with both scanners. So now I have a batch of unhappy and confused (which scanner is going to work today?) users. Does anybody have any idea how to get both to work? Stance

I set up my brand new W700 with the fingerprint software and all my prints and it worked beautifully.  Then 2 days later my Lenovo external keyboard with fingerprint sensor arrived, I connected it and it couldn't find that sensor with the lid closed on my W700.  I did the updates and installed that Keyboards driver and it eventually worked.  Then I disconnected from my docking station, took the laptop on the road and it told me, the W700 integral fingerprint sensor could not be found. Lenovo support was rather unhelpful, telling me it was my "software" issue.  Their eventual suggestion was a total re-install, which I did because according to them, they don't support Windows XP Service Pack 3.  So, after the rebuild and re-install, I had the internal fingerprint sensor working, and when I re-docked it, the external sensor worked.  I have subsequently undocked the machine and I am back to where I started with a brand new machine that can not find it's internal fingerprint sensor at logon or when I go to ThinkVantage, yet it did ask for a fingerprint swipe for my email password and it accepted it! I know it's there, it's not damaged and I know it works, but Lenovo says it's a software issue, not a hardware one, yet the only hardware I have is theirs and their software drivers!  Any suggestions?

Answer:W700 Fingerprint Sensor Not found after External Keyboard w/Fingerprint sensor is connected

What is the FRU number on the external keyboard w/ FPR you purchased?  I can lookup the FPR vendor from it.
I suspect that the internal FPR and the external FPR are two different vendors requiring two different drivers that are not compatible.

Hi. I upgraded the above software  3 days ago to ver 5.8.6.6874. I would have thought it would switch to battery without this problem. Any ideas? Thanks

Question: Forced Log-off

We have NT 4.0 Servers and Win 9.x clients. Is there a way to force a PC to logoff from the server, after 15 minutes of inactivity? If NT can't do it, are there other applications that may accomplish this?

Answer:Forced Log-off

Greetings

What do you mean by "logoff the server"? Do you want the Win9x machines to shut down or do you want them to act like the user has selectec "logoff Username" from the start bar?

What are you actually trying to achieve? Are you trying to get it so that when users go home at night, the machines are not logged onto the domain, and another person can not use their machine to maliciously delete files etc off the severs?

I'm happy and content with Windows Live Messenger 2009.I recently gave the beta for Windows Live Messenger 2010 a go... and while it's still a beta, the overall idea of it is too overwhelming for my own personal taste.Facebook integration, myspace intergration... it's just too overwhelming... it's as if they're trying to do too much with it.There's a button to simplify the interface... but it's too glitchy at this present time. Also the exclusion of custom names really annoys me; you can only use your real name. What I'm aiming to find out, is will I be forced onto this new version of messenger when the final release arises? If it does, I will be switching to aMSN.Thanks in advance.

The theory behind new versions is that they are an improvement on the previous one. Mostly they are, but I agree with you that they are not always. Anyway, to answer your question, you will not be forced to upgrade to the 2010 version.

I have auto updates turned off and yet I keep getting pop-ups to update to 8.1. Now I've finally gotten the one that doesn't give me an option to say no. How do I stop 8.1 from being forced on me?And for those who think I'm out of my mind for not wanting 8.1, I can't upgrade to it because it causes problems that no one seems to know how to fix (unexplained low resolution in certain places and significant speed decrease). I'm stuck with 8.

Answer:How to keep from being forced to update to 8.1?

Quote I'm stuck with 8.You said it. MS does not want to support windows 8. The objective now is to push Windows 8.1 until the next windows version is ready. That has been reported earlier. Here is yet another report that confirms the fact.Microsoft stops selling Windows 7 versions, Windows 8 QuoteWindows 8 is also no longer available at retail from Microsoft, as the Redmond-based giant just wants it to go away at this pointPut another way, 8 and 8.1 are effectively two different systems.IMHO the best  you can do is find all your install DVD/CDs and backup all your stuff and prepare to a do a clean install of version 8.1 and live with it. EDIT: If you are a MSN member, you might get a free 90 days version of 8.1 and maybe install it again after the 90 days are up. That would get you into the next year and maybe then MS will have some kind of special offer.

Since January, my notebook computer has been turned off mysteriously, espeically when im running some games such as Counter-Strike. This situation has stopped for a couple of months but is now back....it really pisses me off

Is it because of some remote control software? is it because im overworking my computer?? I have no idea where to search for logs and things, so please provide me with your help, thx

It's probably an over-temperature situation forcing a shutdown. Hard to say more w/o knowing the exact make and model. Some of them had problems which are fixed by bios and monitor software updates. Does it game well at the Hockey Rink?

I don't know why it would possible only do this on a few pages, and Go The Power, this is the previous problem that I was having, where I was told to download and use all those programs.

Here is a screenshot of the search page that I took a little over a month ago when I had the same problem. I stopped going to rivals.com where I normally had the problem so I never knew if it really went away or not. I went there actually once after I had run all the programs and had no problems that one time.

I recently downloaded zSuite (if you don't already know it's essentially a modding program for the Zune) and I needed to turn off UAC to run it. So I shut it off and rebooted my computer and for some reason check disk (CHKDSK) starts to run. Whatever, I just let it run. It took like 20 minutes deleting and replacing random files before it finished and booted up. I put in my password and tried to log in but it wasn't able to and logged me into a temporary profile instead. I fiddled around with it and eventually just used system restore back to the recommended point in time which fixed the problem, but now whenever I run any program at all I have to right click and go down to "run as administrator" if I just double click it says " program is already running, but is not responding please close the task or reboot" or something similar depending on the program. I have rebooted several times, to no avail, and I am at a total loss to explain what exactly is going on.

I have pop-up blocker turned on, all the web safety features that come with Windows, Windows Defender and Windows firewall turned on, and STILL this adware sneaks on to my PC? Have MS gone the Lenovo route? It's this kind of approach, forcing W10 on people, that makes me annoyed about Win10 and the general 'lack of choice' direction it's going in. If you really and truly feel you need to resort to adware to get people to take up W10, Microsoft, then what's the harm in adding a 'No thank you, please bog off and stop pestering me with ads' option, hmmm? Or at least allow Windows Defender to clean it out. It's supposed to be able to remove adware, and it can't even find the stuff Microsoft's written? How poor must Defender be at finding adware that's actually trying to get around it?
I've uninstalled the darn thing of course. I'm not getting forced into a reservation for anyone. My choice, if you get it right at some point MS. Not before, and looking at it right now not for some time. I don't appreciate your attempts to strong-arm me MS. It feels very Google.

Question: Forced Shutdown

Everytime I go to Restart or Shutdown I am getting a forced showdown screen before Win 7 shutsdown. This is with all processes that I can control closed.

Here is what was running on my last shutdown:

I don't see anything out of the ordinary in that list to cause a forced shutdown. When I get the forced shutdown, I have tried to pause to see what process is causing the forced shutdown, but it never pauses and is gone so fast I can not read the process name.

If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate some help.

Go to start and type in msconfig and hit enter. Go to the startup tab and disable everything except your antivirus. Youwill get that message again when you reboot for the first time after you click restart now in msconfig. Try rebooting after the first reboot since you ran msconfig. This should improve computer performance and keep Windows from showing that message. If that dosn't help, adjust the wait to kill timeout setting as shown here: Shut Down -Speed Up

Repeated attempts are being made to install Win 109 on my Win 7 pc.What is going on and how do I permanently stop this happening.Attempt always happens at boot up and show as a failed upgrade in Windows Update.

Answer:Forced Installation of Win 10

Second attempt to post this.
This is a known and widespread problem. Assuming you are not attempting to upgrade to W10 then uninstall update 3035583 and reboot. When that update is offered again just hide it - you can always restore the 3035583 update later if you wish to install W10 that way. It provides the GWX exe and bits (and that white window in the tray I think).

I have a number of old cd's and DVD's of my mp3 music which I am trying to put onto my portable hard disk (which i asked advice on a few days ago). However some of the CD's are scratched/come up with CRC (Cycle Redundancy errors) which prevents me copying the contents from DVD drive to portable HD. I have also tried copying the info to the internal hard drive, but again no luck. What I need really is a program which forces the info to be copied onto a hard drive, but I don't have a clue if this is a) the right solution, b) what programs to use. Thanks

Answer:Forced read of a CD/DVD

PC Advisor had a recent cover disk (Spring, Issue 104) that included a copy of CD X Rescue. Not sure if this will help but the sleeve blub states: Recover and reclaim - get back lost data + Restore - cure scratches and disk distortion.

I have not taken the plunge yet and upgraded from win 7.

The biggest reason for me is forced updates, and mostly worrying about forced updates from nvidia drivers.

Before I upgrade is there a hidden way in the registry to turn off forced updates?
what happens if you run into a bad nvidia driver update can you downgrade that driver manually but then will it auto update?

Answer:win 10 forced updates

You can go into Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers, right click your computer icon and click Device installation settings, then choose to never install drivers from Windows Update.

If you are running older hardware which hasn't had recent driver updates I would recommend not doing this. Some updated drivers are only available through Windows Update. I've seen both Intel and AMD video drivers, for old hardware, delivered through Windows Update that are not available to download otherwise.

Well my internet connection was acting funny today. I was lagging out on my games and didn't know what it was. So, I turned off all my open ports and everything worked fine. I got into digging through my server logs and it turns out my FTP server was being brute forced. Is there any way to report this activity to the person's ISP that was doing it? I remember seeing a way to retrieve the info based on an IP address but I just don't remember how right now.

After I report that, I'd like to know if anyone knows of a good and secure free FTP server that I can tweak based on the following things:
blocking IPs permanently
blocking IPs based on the number of failed attempts

Also, is there any way to secure the rest of my system like this? I have one computer I use to forward ports to (not a DMZ) sitting behind a Linksys WRT54GS. I think its pretty secure but I honestly am second guessing myself after this attack.

Anyways, if anyone can help me out, the offending IPs are:
65.95.107.159
219.136.187.231

I've kept all the log files in case they need to be forwarded to the ISPs.

I'd also like to ask another question while I'm at it. I've tried out nmap to see what ports my server has open as well as a couple others. The ports come up as being "open", "closed" or "filtered". All my ports are just open. Is there any difference between these distinctions? Can I change my ports to some other ... Read more

Answer:Getting brute forced

Some genius has been trying to brute force accounts through SSH on my personal server. It's random IPs tried on the root account and random named accounts. Too bad you can't SSH as root . All of the other accounts the person is trying to brute force don't exist.

I wouldn't worry about it. Brute forcing across the internet is time consuming and practically never works. The only thing I ever look for are undocumented remote exploits. MITM (man in the middle) attacks are also terribly difficult to do. So is line sniffing.

Question: Forced Shutdowns

I am having a problem with a popup window that says that I scheduled/requested a system shutdown on my computer no matter what I am doing. It counts down from 30 seconds and then forces windows to shutdown. This happens regardless of what applications I'm running, sometimes 2-3 times a day and sometimes every few days. The computer also seems to be running slower, especially when trying to load webpages, but that may be due to the fact the computer is 5 years old...

Question: Forced shutdown

Hi everyone,

I have an

Inspiron 1420 Dell computer
Windows Vista
32-bit operating system
2 gb RAM
Intel core 2 duo CPU @ 1.80 GHz

I am on the Dell reccomended power plan, which indicates equality between the use of battery and performance.

So here's my problem. I will leave my computer (plugged in or not doesn't seem to matter) alone for about 15-20 minutes. When I come back, the screen is black, and when I move the mouse, one of two things happens.

1. It stays black and I am forced to shutdown by holding down the power button
2. It goes back to whatever I was working on but then freezes- I can move the mouse around bu can't click on anything and am again forced to shutdown.

Anyone have any experience with this or know what to do? I've had some blue screens before as well.. I don't know if that is related or not.
I have absolutely no clue when it comes to computers... so I would appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Oh I wanted to add that I have tried ctrl alt delete, and that does not have any effect

Answer:Forced shutdown

Try new video drivers. I prefer the one's from the manufacturer of the video chipset (ATI, nVidia, Intel, etc) over the one's from Dell.

Question: Forced to upgrade.

I got a 4870 X2 and for some reason my mobo decided to crap out on me (not sure it's my fault or not, I wasn't using an anti-static wristband but made sure I was grounded and don't think I shocked anything).

So I went ahead and ordered these:

Newegg.com - ASUS P5Q Pro LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops

Newegg.com - ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler - CPU Fans & Heatsinks

Should be much better than my current setup. I accidentally got the 965G version of my mobo instead of the 965P version about 1 3/4 years ago when I first got my E6600. It couldn't overclock for anything, (has a hard time even reaching a 400 Mhz overclock).

I hope to hit at least 3.6 GHz Needless to say I'm pretty much broke now.

Answer:Forced to upgrade.

Bah.. we lost another one..

I've built three computers so far w/ no wrist band.. Fine so far.. Just give it a mist of static guard before and after.. or every 20 minutes..

Question: Forced 8.1 upgrade

Howdy folks, hope everyone is doing well.

A couple of weeks ago I suddenly got a countdown timer to Win 8.1 upgrade. I didn't choose to upgrade and there was no way to abort that I could find. I was due a free upgrade on this laptop but hadn't taken advantage of it as I was just fine with Windows 8 & feared having problems with the upgrade.

Since the forced upgrade I"m having longer shut down and start up times, longer waking from hibernation, problems with the mouse, and some other assorted weirdness.

So why & how was this upgrade forced on me? Are there some tweaks that would help with the problems I'm having?

Answer:Forced 8.1 upgrade

I would suggest upgrading your hardware drivers, if Win 8.1 drivers are available. Toshiba support web site should have the new drivers for you.

In my Win 7 Pro 64-bit, I just saw the following entry in Windows Logs - System:

Quote:
"Installation Ready: The following updates are downloaded and ready for installation. This computer is currently scheduled to install these updates on ‎Saturday, ‎August ‎29, ‎2015 at 5:32 PM:
- Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro"

No !!! Don't want to leave Win 7 !!!

So I immediately went to my Installed Updates and UNinstalled the only recent update, which was Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3077715), which was supposed to be only "August 2015 cumulative time zone update for Windows operating systems". Well, maybe it was, and something else triggered the Win 10 upgrade entry??

I am now past the 5:32pm upgrade time and it hasn't happened yet, but I'm scared!! What should I do to prevent the upgrade ???

Help! It's prowling around upstairs and I need help!!

PS - My PC is currently dual-booting Win 7 (which I want to save from this monster) and Win 10 (because I upgraded my 8.1 to 10), of course with different partitions on the hard drive. Is it something about the dual-booting with 10 that is infecting my 7?

Hello! New here. I have been googling a lot lately trying to find help to the problems that plague me and this forum seemed to pop up a lot... so hopefully you guys can free me of my problems

I am being effected by both BSOD and spyware

Acer Aspire 5542 laptop
Windows 7 Home x64bit
I have had the laptop for a little over a year
the copy of windows 7 is OEM

I have ran spybot, AVG, and RUbotted (in both standard mode and safe mode) and to no avail have my problems been fixed.

The most frustrating problem is when I google something. I click one of the search results, the page will begin to load, and then it will stop loading and start loading another website. It redirects me all over the place... from AOL to dailymotion.

I will get pop up ads occasionally that will open in a separate tab (using firefox). The ad that reoccurs the most is a very shady looking walmart advertisement. The Walmart logo is not official and it is only in blue text. A timer then starts and tells me I have 60 seconds to complete a simple 3 answer quiz.

I'm not sure if this is in the right section or not... but i'll put it here regardless!
I am HAUNTED by BSODs. The errors that are given always vary... from 0x0000ea/3b/fffff and so on. I cannot figure out what it is. When it occurs for the most part is random. Sometimes I will be hit by the BSOD time after time on boot. Other times will be after I boot, it will occur when I open firefox. Doesn't normally happen when I'm gaming so I don'... Read more

Answer:Please help me before I'm forced to reformat!

Answer:forced to restart

I'm going to move you tentatively to the security forums for someone to look at your log. I see that you are running bit torrent, which can be a huge source of bad downloads I'd recommend ditching that.

As a side note, restarts can be caused by overheating, bad ram, weak power supply, among other things.

I am using win 8.1 and will keep it and not upgrading to anything else from M S  so what am I looking for and where do I look

to make sure I am not forced in upgrades and can it stopped before the fact and not after ?

If an upgrade sneaks in under my radar how do I revert back to 8.1  ?   :  (

Answer:Forced M S upgrades

Hi Pestyone What are you afraid of right now? You're afraid that Microsoft makes you upgrade, but upgrade to what? Windows 10? This isn't the case right now and it won't be until at least 3 months. Plus, I really doubt that they'll force an upgrade to Windows 10 via a silent update, this would be unethical and a lot of users would complain about it.

Question: Forced Hibernation

My laptop is currently going hibernating at random after start-up and the problem is that once it does, it will consistently hibernate every minute or so again until I reboot. (Which leads to another cycle of hibernation.) I have already changed Hibernation to "Never" in power options but it still gives me this problem. I resorted to disabling hibernation completely. However, there will still be notifications popping up by my system telling me my that my system cannot go into hibernation mode because I disabled it.

It will be greatly appreciated if anyone can help me find out the root of this problem. Hibernation function is generally very useful for me especially in times of low battery and I will really like to enable this function again. I am using a LG R405A laptop (not a very new model) with Intel Pentium Dual CPU T2330 @1.60 GHz with Vista Home Premium 32-bit OS.

Question: Forced updates?

A few hours ago i noticed a tooltip telling me that Windows will shut down to install updates at some designated time. I didn't install these updates, they installed on their own.

My Windows Update settings have been set to check with me before downloading. I found out that they were reset to download automatically, but how did this happen??

I hate that setting because in the past, I've come across one instance where Windows never rebooted and i had to shut it down even though it told me not to.

Answer:Forced updates?

There are some things that are force-updated to an extent - but in theory nothing should reset your option settings.

This can happen because of registry corruption, or use of a registry cleaner/optimiser, or because of malware (although malware wouldn't normally attack such a setting, it's possible that a cleanup procedure altered the setting to the default)

I've had a Windows 8 PC for some time now. Everything works fine on it. I get the nag to upgrade to 8.1 every now and then, but I always dismiss it. Today, when I woke up the computer, it told me the update was ready but I had to reboot. My only choice was to postpone the reboot. I didn't really want to update it because, as I said, it was working fine. It gets along with my home network, etc. I went ahead and told it to "reboot now" since any other option was just putting off the inevitable.

It's at 78% setting up now. What can I expect?

My concern is that I also have a laptop that I use more often that also only has Windows 8. I get the nag to upgrade on it as well. I'm concerned I'm going to turn it on one morning and be forced to upgrade it as well.

Answer:PC just FORCED Windows 8.1. Now What?

If Windows Update started the download and install then the required previous updates had been done, shouldn't be a big problem. I've done a Desktop and a Notebook without issues.

By the way, I think there was something about the Update to 8.1 would be automatically pushed if one hadn't gotten it yet.

Question: Forced To Sign In

Hello All, I have a laptop and a netbook both running 8.1 I upgraded from 8 but the upgrade forced me to create an account (Shades of Mac there) I didn't mind because I have always had great help from Microsoft. The problem is that I now have to sign in whenever I boot my computers and I don't wish to do so, how can I change this ? I would like to say in conclusion that I am a big fan since the advent of 8.1 as you can choose to boot to desktop if you want and then flip between the two it's becoming a truly universal system.

Hi,
I have Spyware Terminator, AVG Free, and Malwarebytes dled. Spyware Terminator scans are clean, but when I run AVG I'm getting two results for 'Spyware'. One is "C:\System Volume Information\_restore{106CF321-99A3-4E3A-9103-1BD027606A99}\RP346\A0112493.exe";"Adware Toolbar.CJ";"Potentially dangerous object"
and the other is "C:\System Volume Information\_restore{106CF321-99A3-4E3A-9103-1BD027606A99}\RP346\A0112493.exe:\ns_00567";"Adware Toolbar.CJ";"Potentially dangerous object"

Both are Adware Toolbar.CJ
Typically I would remove these by clicking 'remove all unhealed infections'. But when I do, a warning pops up saying that forced removal could cause system instability or crash, and it gives me an option to remove anyway. Is it safe to forcably remove these infections?
And what kind of infection is that anyway? Thanks!

Answer:AVG, forced removal.

The detected _restore{GUID}\RP***\A00*****.xxx file(s) identified by your scan are in the System Volume Information Folder (SVI) which is a part of System Restore. The *** after RP represents a sequential number automatically assigned by the operating system. The ***** after A00 represents a sequential number where the original file was backed up and renamed except for its extension. To learn more about this, refer to:Restore Point ForensicsForensic Analysis of System Restore Points in Microsoft Windows XPSystem Restore is the feature that protects your computer by monitoring a core set of system and application files and by creating backups (snapshots saved as restore points) of vital system configurations and files before changes are made. These restore points can be used to "roll back" your computer to a clean working state in the event of a problem. This makes it possible to undo harmful changes to your system configurations including registry modifications made by software or malware by reverting the operating systems configuration to an earlier date. See What's Restored when using System Restore and What's Not.The SVI folder is protected by permissions that only allow the system to have access and is hidden by default on the root of every drive, partition or volume including most external drives, and some USB flash drives. This morning I have the dreaded 'Upgrade to W10' showing in Windows Update. I HAVE DONE NOTHING TO INVITE THIS. I never accepted the invitation for W10 and used Shawns reg tweak to remove the GWX icon a few months ago.

Yesterday I did install KB3083711 (update to Windows Update) BUT NOT KB3035583 which was another W10 compatibility update. Has KB3083711 some other hidden function ?

MICROSOFT. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. I do not want W10 on this PC. This PC has not been able to install W10. Dell say this PC is not suitable for W10.

Whinging here won't achieve anything, I know that, but I am seriously considering rolling back to way before all this W10 stuff started and turning OFF Windows Update.

I WANT THE W8.1 THAT I PAID FOR OUT OF MY OWN MONEY.

W10 makes me feel that the PC isn't mine anymore... I have no control over what Microsoft are foisting on me.

I would have liked to have seen an opt out update be issued that would take users like myself out of the W10 loop.

EDIT... One important bit of info. I have Windows Update set to notify only. Seems that was no barrier in this case.

Answer:Upgrade to W10 FORCED UPON ME.

You should let it go through and then get a lawyer and sue them for loss of productive time loss of data, emotional pain and what ever else comes to mind. No should mean NO! Maybe hacking laws or what ever could apply, because they are making unwanted changes.

Question: Forced Reboot

Windows 7.
Numerous times I have tried to reboot my computer, because it?s running slow, or sluggish. When I close all open files, and try to reboot, I get message saying something is running, do you want to force the program to shut down.
How can I find out what is running?
After reboot the computer runs faster.

Answer:Forced Reboot

Check task manager and view processes...When asking you to force shut down there is a list behind it saying waiting for program(s) services to stop:
Check if there is any programs in the list and end its process in the task manager....
If you don't see anything, just wait for about 5 minutes.
If that didn't work, force shut down and remove all crap software from your computer.
REDUCE software killing process timeout:
Go to desktop--->Right click--->New--->Shortcut--->Type this:
Code:
shutdown.exe -s -t 00 -f
---->Next-->finish.
Now launch it.
#2nd way:
+ R -->Type Regedit.exe --->Enter---> UAC Prompt click yes---->Keep expanding this path:
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
Should look like this:

Question: Forced into Domain

I have a new computer with a fresh install of Win 7 Pro, 64-bit. The computer properties tells me I'm not in a domain, just a workgroup, but when I try to login to another computer, it tells me I'm in the domain LAPTOP. (LAPTOP is the name of my computer.) Then, it doesn't allow me to change my domain so I cannot log into the other computer because it is on a domain and I must log into that domain. I have tried domain\userid, but that doesn't work because it insists I'm in the domain LAPTOP.

FYI: I have also changed the properties from 'computer on a business network' to 'home computer--not on network', but it doesn't stick. It just resets to 'computer on a business network'. I'm pretty certain these issues are related.

This seems like a Windows bug. It needs to be fixed ASAP. I need to be able to access other computers. I have never had/do not have this problem with other machines.

I've been told that a fresh install of Windows will fix this problem, but as this *is* a fresh install, I doubt it will work, and I don't want to spend hours backing up and reinstalling the same bug.

Can anyone recommend anything??

Answer:Forced into Domain

I have the same problem.
My Win 7 laptop is set up for "workgroup," which is the network name of other computers on my LAN.
When I try to connect, Win 7 sees the other computers, but selecting one, I get that popup that says at the top "Network Password." Then lower, fill ins for the user name on the computer I'm trying to connect to and the next line: password for the user I'm trying to connect to.
Below that it tells me I am a member of a domain, that has my laptop's name.
But the Laptop is set up to be a member of the "workgroup," not a domain.

So, no log in to the other systems is working. A domain computer won't be able to connect to a work group. Even if Win 7 telling me I belong to a domain is incorrect, any user name and password I enter for the computer I'm trying to connect with does not work. Another popup comes on asking me to enter the network password.

i also tried entering the password of the LAN, thinking that might solve it but it didn't.
and I tried entering the name of the user, with just the user name, as well a username using it's complete location on the network: \\(computer name)\(user name).

Nothing works and I can't connect to other compturers on the LAN.
And as this thread say's, Win 7 is saying I'm a member of a domain.

So, same problem here.
Oh, I also set up user accounts on the Win 7 computer with the same name and password as on the other computers in the LAN--but that didn't do any good, either.

Question: Forced reboots

Hi all,

Since last week I've been experiencing a issue with my PC rebooting without warning. The issue occurs at seemingly random times, and give no error messages. Most of the time it's during full screen applications, but it has occurred once whilst having several tabs with youtube open at one time. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to the frequency either. Sometime's its after half and hour after opening the application, sometimes it's five minutes.

My specs are as follows:

CPU: AMD FX-4350 Quad Core CPU (4.3/4.2GHZ - 4MB CACHE/AM3+)
Motherboard: ASUSŪ M5A97 LE R2.0 (DDR3, USB3.0, 6Gb/s)
RAM: 8GB KINGSTON DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz (1 x 4GB)
GPU: 2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 960
PSU: CORSAIR 450W VS SERIES? VS-450
OS: Windows 10 64Bit

I've been trying to isolate the issue without much luck. Last week everything worked fine, and the only new installation since then was a Nvidia graphics driver. I've tried uninstalling and reverting to an older driver, and also installing the latest one that was released today, but the same thing occurs. I've also monitored temperature levels, and everything's fine there. I've tried a system restore, and I've run a memory check, with no issues, but I'm still getting reboots.

In the Event Viewer, the crashes appear as Critical Event 41s (Kernal-Power). Not entirely sure what this means, as the description is pretty vague. I've also disabled auto-restart to try and see a BSOD, but no... Read more

Ok, this has now happened no rivals.com and when I was lookng at one article on espn.com. When the page loads it shows below it has finished loading the page, but show a white page, then quickly loads this dell search page. The address for the website that it could not find this time on rivals is: http://ad.yieldmanager.com/st%3Fad_type.

Here is a screenshot of the search page that I took a little over a month ago when I had the same problem. I stopped going to rivals.com where I normally had the problem so I never knew if it really went away or not. I went there actually once after I had run all the programs and had no problems that one time.

Question: Forced slowdown?

Hi,

For my first post this may be a bit silly; not an emergency, just an oddity.

Seems like every so often (as in just now) my system starts to run slower and slower (it had been doing so for several hours today and I once again rebooted). Killing processes doesn't help and eventually I have to reboot. Windows then installs updates and all is well until the next time.
As far as I can tell this is always when there are updates that need to be installed. Seems as if the slowdown is forced on the system so that there will be a reboot. This is a real PITA if/when I am in the middle of something that takes a lot of concentration
As I say, it's just happened again. After a reboot (and updates installed), all is well.

Anyone else see this? I don't think I am being paranoid - if that means anything.

At the point I rebooted only 2+Gb/8Gb of memory were is use, but cursor movement was really slow - almost unusable.

I am running Win7 Home edition SP1 64bit. I can provide full specs, but that doesn't seem to be the issue.

I scan with Malwarebytes and Spybot S&D daily and use AVG for the rest of my security, so I think my system is clean.

Any thoughts?

I have just received news with regards to updates for windows 10. Microsoft are going to make these updates mandatory, you will be able to refuse them, but should you wish to download further updates you will have to install the updates you have refused. also if you read the software licence you give Microsoft permission to install other apps like Bing. just wounded what the forums views are on this subject

Answer:windows 10 forced updates

Hello Reeves,

Just like in all previous Windows, some updates will require that others to be installed first. You should always install all important and critical updates to help keep your Windows patched and secured. Only the optional updates should be decided to install or not, but even then they usually should be installed as well.

By default, updates will be downloaded and installed automatically via Windows Update in Windows 10. Updates will not be automatically downloaded over a metered connection though.

However, you can use the tutorial below to set Windows Update to not automatically update.

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/8...dows-10-a.html

Hope this helps,

I just updated my computer to Windows 10 Pro from Windows 7 Pro. I have a known issue with an Intel video driver available through Windows Update that would render my computer useless. I am assuming that there is a conflict between the Intel video driver and the nVidia driver. See pic below. My work around was this was simple ... just do not install the Intel driver. As long as I used the driver from nVidia and not the one from Intel, I had no problems. Well now that Windows 10 forces all updates, I am running into the issue again. I have booted into safe mode a couple of times and disabled and even uninstalled the driver, but Windows continues to reload it and crash my video card. Is there any way to stop this, or am I now being forced to go and buy a different video card? For the record, card is nVidia GeForce 525M.
Thanks,
Dennis
