Windows Update - Some updates were not installed

Question: Windows Update - Some updates were not installed

My Windows Update keeps referring me to an 'Important' update that needs to be installed, but every time I try to install it it fails with the failure code 733F.
The actual file is Security Update for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 (KB948109)

Has anyone had this problem and please tell me how to repair it so I can download thi update.

Regards,

Swanee

Preferred Solution: Windows Update - Some updates were not installed

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

T460p here. After I updated my Windows 10 to Fall Creator Update - Lenovo System Update Shows 11 Updates that are already installed - so it want's to install the same drivers over and over again. Probably a bug. Anyone with the same experience?

i upgraded from win 7 to win 10 in early august. no problems. i've been installing all updates since then and installed updates always showed status of updates. after installing fall update i noticed my update history was erased and any updates since, like defender definition files, don't appear in the list. only one update is listed: Security Update for Internet Explorer Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3103688) installed on 11/14/2015.

Answer:Windows 10 fall update erased the Windows Update history plus new installed updates don't appear. What do I do?

I have exactly the same problem; no update history except the flash one.

Hey guys,
I've come across this annoying problem where, Windows Update can't update certain features/drivers. In this case it would be my mouse pad driver and integrated gfx driver... All I get is a notification saying it can't update. On the Windows Update window, this is what I get:
Once I click "Instalar Agora" (Install now), no second window appears, as you would expect from a third party update.
Any suggestions? This is really becoming highly annoying.

Answer:Updates can't be installed - Windows Update

Have you restarted the machine yet? Sometimes that fixes update issues. Also are you sure you're actually receiving an error... Driver updates in Windows 10 are delivered via WSUS as well now so you won't see anything other than the standard windows update procedure.

I installed all the updates last tuesday and two of them (while installed successfully ) keep popping up as needing to be installed.   This is happening when i run Secunia PSI as well .

The two are  Internet Explorer 11  updates

KB3021952 and KB3032359

Any ideas as to why ?

Thank you

Answer:Windows update shows two updates need to be installed but already are

Windows downloaded updates could be corrupted you can delete "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" directory which holds Windows updates cache.
Close all running programs and save open files then open Command Prompt as a administrator type sc stop wuauserv  press Enter key. Type rd /s /q  C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution press Enter key. Type Shutdown /r /t 2 press Enter key to restart your computer and after login to Windows check and install updates if needed.

Hi,

I installed a new windows 7 64-bit Ultimate and made updates but it installed 32-bit updates. This never happen to me before.

Here's my computer specs:

Answer:Windows Update installed 32-bit updates in a 64-bit system!

Hello Aleya, and welcome to Seven Forums.

That's normal since you have installed the 32-bit (x86) edition of Office instead of the 64-bit edition.

Choose the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Office

Hello all,

I installed the Anniversary Windows 10 update from scratch on my Surface Book. After installing all the Surface Book drivers, I ran Windows Update and it downloaded and wanted to install more device drivers.

Most of those drivers failed to install and it won't let me re-install them.

Can anyone please tell me why this is happening?

Last successful update was on 15/07/2012, since then I didn?t turn on my netbook. 3 days ago I turned it on and had 11 important updates waiting to be installed. All failed over and over again. Been trying to solve this issue for 3 days and have done the following to no avail. Search box typed run and then entered msiexec /unregister , then msiexec /regserver
1. In Services, Windows Installer, already set to manual, clicked on start and received following pop up error, Windows could not start the Windows Installer Service on Local Computer. Error 5: Access Denied.
2. Changed Permissions so that users and administrators have full control on all HKEYs.
3. CMD: sfc /scannow ? Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
4. Saved on desktop Windows 7 msiserver.reg and double clicked on it.
5. Downloaded registry repair software.
6. In the HKEY_lOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/services/msiserver, deleted enum.
7. And others I can?t remember.

I cannot do a fresh install of Windows 7 as I do not have the cd. It?s just me and the netbook, and no cds. Any help will be most certainly appreciated. I?m tired but don?t want to give up.

You've made some large mistakes, I'm afraid.
Is your Recvoery parttion still intact? - Check your manual for the Recovery procedures, and back up your data to external media as a precaution.

Then attempt a System Restore to before you attemtped to repair the system.

Then post an MGADiag report - I have a suspicion I know what the problem is, and that should onfirm it (or tell me I'm well off base!)

I had already installed, successfully I might add, a Definitions update for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB3115321). The Update already installed and now it keeps coming up with the same error unable to install update:
Definition Update for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB3115321) 32-Bit Edition - Error 0x80070643
I tried uninstalling the installed update and Windows won't do it returning an "Unspecified error" response. I have Windows 10 Home (32bit) installed and I cannot find a way to get Update, as you used to be able do, to HIDE the offending update. (THANKS Microsoft for removing functionality from Windows YET AGAIN).
I'm at my wits end with this. . I have asked about this problem before directly reporting the issue to Microsoft (Surprise surprise... NO RESPONSE. I'd get a better response from a brick wall). Seriously not happy; considering cutting my losses and reverting (AS I STILL HAVE MY INSTALL DISCS) to Windows 7 or moving to Linux. Way to go to p**s off users!

I've been running windows 7 home premium 32 bit without problems for several years
I did a clean install of windows 7 home premium 64 bit from DVD
I activated it
SP1 (KB976932) appeared in the list of available updates so I ran Windows Update
When the updates were complete I checked the update history and SP1 (KB976932) was successful
However when I checked installed updates there was no mention of SP1 and the windows edition does not show SP1 either
There is no windows icon on the task bar to request the free upgrade to windows 10
I have repeated the clean install process 3 times with the same result. I also tried downloading SP1 from microsoft website but that got stuck in a boot loop
When I was running windows 7 32 bit the windows icon was available on the task bar to request the free upgrade to windows 10
I'm not that concerned about getting SP1 I just want to register for the free windows 10 upgrade
I'm running an Intel E6750 with 4gb ram on a gigabyte 965p-dq6 mobo. It's pretty old but I have a similar PC of the same vintage that ran win 7 64 bit without any problems before I upgraded it to windows 8 and I had no problems registering for the windows
10 upgrade on that PC
Any ideas?

Problem solved. Used the Microsoft Show/Hide Updates Troubleshooter tool. Why did I have to go looking for this? This is a useful part of Windows functionality... What were they thinking of removing it. then hiding the tool? (Rhetorical questions; I know why. Thank you Nanny Microsoft, but I'm a better programmer than most of your shiftless lot)

Hi all,
I head to this section on advise by a Moderator from the Virus/trojan/Spyware Help section.
After cleaning the machine from a rootkit I have this issue:
I removed and then reinstalled SP3 (twice) and after downoading the updates now my pc prompts me to install updates that appear to be already in the system.
The last update haunting me is KB2633952 (before it was KB981793).
After every reboot I have the yellow update icon on the toolbar (down on the left, close to the clock). If start the installation procedure it ends telling me it is impossible to install. I tried to download it directly from Microsoft download center and the result is an installation error: "update cannot be installed as a newer or same timezone has already been installed on the System".
If I search the system I find the update in these directories:
1) C:\Windows\System32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}
2) C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\be9e26e54f7a2d73396715001d0e1e17\update
3) C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download.old\be9e26e54f7a2d73396715001d0e1e17\update
4)C:\Windows\Prefetch

Please note that the system now appears to be cleared from malware.

Answer:[SOLVED] Windows update prompting to install updates already installed

Go to Control Panel/Date and Time make sure that your computer is in the Right time zone for your area, and the check box for automatically update for Daylight Savings time is checked. Then go to the Internet Time tab and update your time to the current time. then you can try the Update again.

Hi there

I'm having multiple problems and the one above has come up today as I was looking into how to enable automatic TomTom connection and also Alfa wifi.  The Alfa keeps saying that Relatek driver is not connected.  Diagnostics keep coming up with different reasons and the one above is the latest.  It varies daily and I need some advice as it is soul destroying.  Is someone can help I would be most grateful.

Answer:Driver updates aren't automatically installed when detected by Windows Update.

FWIW:  You should never...use Windows Update for drivers.  If the system is an OEM/name brand system (e.g., HP, Dell, Lenovo, etc.) you should get drivers for the system from the respective system manufacturer's websitel.

Hello,
On Windows 10, in Settings > Update > Advanced Options, what's the difference between choosing "Automatic" and "Notify to schedule restart" when choosing how updates are installed?
If we choose the second option, does that mean that updates won't be installed automatically?

Answer:Windows Update Question, if we choose the second option will the updates not be installed automatically?

The "Notify to schedule restart" it's just, when there is an update downloaded and ready, it will notify and ask you to schedule a time to restart.
I mean, Windows updates always have three options when it downloads an update, to let Windows restart automatically your device at 3 am, you can select a restart time and you can of course restart your computer right away to install the updates.
So by setting Notify to schedule a restart, you only are suppose to get a notification from Windows 10 to set the time, nothing more. Automatic will be silent and will not bother you about it, but either way, you can change it when you want to apply the updates and restart.
if you need more control, of course gpedit.msc is needed. if you have Pro of course.

The varies powershell scripts also do not produce the information under Name.

When trying to use Windows Update, the updates download successfully but fail to install. The following message appears: "Problem: A problem on your computer is preventing updates from being downloaded or installed." I have turned my antivirus software off, I have tried updating manually, I have tried updating one at a time. Nothing seems to work. I now have a backlog of 13 updates that I'm supposed to install. Boot into "Safe Mode with Networking" (restart while tapping F8 repeatedly) and see if you can install the updates. This should work.

When I launch WU form the std start menu shortcut, it launches wuapp.exe and just hangs. I have to terminate the process in task manager. Additional launches = additional hung processes.

Shortcut target: %windir%\system32\wuapp.exe startmenu
Starts in: %windir%\system32\

The same condition occurs if I try to launch wuapp.exe directly from %windir%\system32\
Yesterday, I checked the Effective permissions for my user on wuapp.exe = full control
Today, after running the Windows WU Troubleshooter and WU MS Fixit, the permissions = read, read & execute.

The issue is twofold. The standard WU shortcut "hangs" but Control Panel WU does not hang, until I try to view installed updates (viewing history seems to be ok). I have to terminate the process in Task Manager once I try to view installed updates.

As a workaround, I created a shortcut to Control Panel WU - this allows me to check for and apply updates.

Shortcut target: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Windows Update

A few things that might have caused this - recent activity, but just guessing I installed Advanced Uninstaller Pro and played with it, but did not apply anything it suggested. One thing I tried was duplicate files - eventually killing it due to time (lots of dups, lots of files).

Answer:Windows update "hang" - menu shortcut & installed updates

I'm not sure that resetting WU would actually cure your problem - it sounds to me more of a systemic problem, possibly to do with one of the involved technologies (scripting, NET, etc.).

My wuapp.exe has TrustedInstaller as owner, with only Read and Execute permissions for users and Admins.

While looking into recently installed Windows Updates I noticed something strange.

This month there were five Important Office 2007 updates offered to me. I installed them and it shows this in Update History. But when I look in Installed Updates (where I would need to uninstall from) it lists 20 something updates from that same date.

How is this possible? Are there other updates within the main update? I've never spent a lot of time looking at Installed Updates but it seems this may occur for other updates as well.

Answer:Update History vs. Installed Updates

They often do not match. Mine don't.

"View Update History" often only shows more recent updates.

The one marked "Installed Updates" shows the entire list and allows for uninstalling them if necessary.

Nothing to worry about.

Hello, I would be grateful if anyone can help with this query.

On 1 June 2013 I took my pc back to Factory Settings and did a clean install of Windows installing all the relevant important updates for Vista. My pc is now up-to-date but one thing puzzles me. My list of installed updates lists a significant number of updates installed in 2008. (Two installed on 21/01/2008 and 39 from 21/10/2008). I would have expected that all updates listed would have an installation date on or after 1 June 2013.

I would be grateful if someone could explain this for me.

Answer:Why do my installed updates list updates installed prior to date of clean install

Was it after the installation date that shows, now?

Got a new PC with Win 7 Pro+ SP 1 already installed.
I believe some past Win 7 updates were done by the company I bought it from
But I think there were / are still a lot of updates to be added
Windows Update is hanging on 'Checking for updates'

I was thinking it might be best to just install the new July 2016 Rollup update, however...
Can I install the rollup update on top of whatever Win 7 updates have already been added to this PC?
Will the rollup update installer know which ones are already on the pc and ignore them?
Or will the previous updates interfere with the rollup update and screw up my pc?

Thanks for any advice and / or best steps to take for getting my new pc fully updated (sans Win 10 )

Answer:Can Win 7 rollup update be installed over past updates

Hi Metroid, it is okay to install the July rollup. This is MS new way of delivering recommended updates for that month. Instead of delivering them as separate updates they just all get bundled into one package now. It won't include security updates though, or updates that were released before MS switched to this method. So you still might have some to install after the rollup has been installed.

Ok, so recently, i installed an optional update through Windows update on to my Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit system. When i logged on, i noticed that my netgear wireless internet card was no longer working at all. I tried to uninstall the update since it seemed to be working before it was added. however even though it shows up in the "update history" tab, it does not show up in the "installed updates" tab.

the exact update name:
-Broadcom driver update for Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter

anyone know how i can get rid of it/downgrade it to the previous working version?

Answer:Update shows in history, but not in installed updates

Yeah, that is because it is a driver. Go to Device Manager > under Network Adaptors you will find your Broadcom > double click on it and go to the Driver tab. There you can roll- back.

When I access Windows Update 'Installed Updates' there is nothing there apart from Office2010, Adobe Reader, Silverlight and Visual C++ updates installed.

There are always three pending updates to be found in Windows Update: KB2977759 and KB3004469 and Windows IE9. The two KB updates will install, then show up in 'Check for Updates' repeatedly or occasionally fail and show error 80070002. The IE9 update receives error code 9C48.

Running Windows Update Troubleshooter displays error 0x80070003 - not fixed.

I've tried this: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/910336
All drivers are updated.
Also tried WSUSoffline.
I've more or less tried every solution that I could find over several days of trawling the net. At this stage any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Until the October 2014 updates I would always receive a sytray notice of which updates had been installed. To clarify, after new Windows Updates were installed and with or without a reboot of the system, I would receive a systray notification that new updates had been installed and upon clicking that notification a window would open and show the updates that had been installed and success or failure status.

I no longer receive that notification. This was true for the October and November patch Tuesday updates. I can open Windows Update and select View Update History and see that the updates were installed but the systray notification only showed the latest installation history and was more convenient that having to open Windows Update to view the update history.

Anyone have any idea as to what caused the systray notification to stop working after updates were installed? OS is Win 7 Home Premium SP 1.

TIA for any replies.

Should I post this in the Windows 7 General Discussion forum? Doesn't seem to be much response here.

Two basic questions while I'm building a zero-day, fully-updated Windows system with nothing else on it for imaging.

1. After reinstall, I noticed that populating Installed Updates took forever, while you had to wait for the dreaded green line moving rightwards. Is this normal ? I don't remember having to wait under my previous install.

2. After reading about the great Microsoft debacle of trying to push Windows 10 down everybody's throat through Windows Updates, I'm seriousy considering switching off Updates altogether and checking manually. When do Updates occur ? Is it still Patch Tuesday ?

Answer:Delay for displaying installed updates + update schedule

Microsoft has shifted to patch as needed. You may get some updates on various days. It all depends on Microsoft.
I check manually every few days. Some times it takes a long time to download them. All depends if you hit a Microsoft server that isn't busy.

There are about 40 updates that I've not yet installed. I've tried going through and just randomly selecting them, to see if that would work, but it doesn't.

What could be causing this? Is there anyway to fix it without doing a clean install of XP? I searched on google, and everything I tried that I found, didn't help.

This is quite frustrating, really. This update will simply not install and when it has failed to do so it repeatedly informs me that I need to install it.

I don't know what to do, do you?

(I noticed a similar thread in this forum but it refers to a different update so I thought I'd make a new one).

Answer:"The following updates were not installed: Security Update for Microsoft .NET ...

I am assuming that you have administrative privileges and that you have enough disk space. Also, you might check to make sure that a spyware/anti-virus program is not blocking the install.

How are you updating? clicking the icon in the sys-tool bar? if so, then open up IE, and click Tools, then windows update, try using that instead.

If this doesn't work, then try and find a Manual update.

Note this is just basically repeating what I said in another forum, but it is a good start.

Is there a way to determine which win7 updates have been actually applied successfully and which have failed if I can't see the update history page?

I lost my WU history page when I ran the WU Fix-it tool. Prior to loosing the info I saw that around 10 or so updates had failed. Is there anyway to determine if the "failed" updates were installed after I deleted and reinstalled SP1 trying to fix the problem?

Answer:determining what updates installed with no update history page availab

Just run windows update " Check for Updates "

If anything failed it should be on the to do list.

I reformat and clean-reinstall Windows roughly on a monthly basis. Now using the Windows 10 1709 iso for this purpose.
I have all auto-updates turned off (Windows 10 Pro) via group policy editor.
After first boot, I run a batch file that installs Windows updates (.msu files) that I downloaded from the Windows update catalog.

The problem is, that when I go to the Windows update panel it says "Updates are available" and the listed updates are the same that I already installed via the .msu files. Furthermore, Windows update's "View installed updates history" confirms that those updates have been successfully installed too, so my install via batch file worked as intended.
If I start the update process it will really re-download those already installed updates (I monitored network activity to confirm the download). I checked because at first I hoped that as soon as the Windows update process started it would recognize that the update is already applied and skip the download and install, but presumably it needed to go through the exercise to recognize it was already installed; this wasn't the case as the updates really appear to be downloaded anew.

Anyone knows why Windows keeps detecting the same updates that were already installed?
Is there something broken with .msu updates and it does not fully report having installed those, so Windows thinks they aren't installed and they download again (even though they show as installed in "View installed updates... Read more

Hello All,

I was referred here by NeonFx from the TechGuy Security forum. He had me run a slew of anti-virus/anti-spyware diagnostics. According to NeonFx my system is currently infection free and he states the problem lies elsewhere.

He also had me run the Windows Update FixIt tool in both Default and Aggressive mode - both of which did not fix the problem. So what is the problem??

PROBLEM:

When I run the install Windows updates, the updates do not install, and I receive the following message (not verbatim, but close):

"Some updates were unable to be installed..."

This problem "came out of no where" and there has been no suspicious activity prior to it starting other than an IE7 redirect rootkit that NeonFx helped me remove (if I recall correctly an infection of agp440)...

Stumped, stumped and stumped...

As the title says, I have problems with Windows Update. I tried some fixes like: Reset_Reregister_Windows_Update_Components, Reset_Windows_Update_History, MicrosoftFixit50362 (which is a Microsoft Installer Fixer that couldn't install PowerShell), MicrosoftFixit50202. But what I really need is installing .NET Framework 4. I tried forcing it to install, installing it step by step, but it couldn't go further than .NET Framework 3.5. I need that Framework, the other updates don't really matter. And the interesting thing is that my antivirus doesn't say that Windows is not up-to-date, which is not normal, in ESET Smart Security, if Windows is not up-to-date.
If specs matter:

Answer:Windows Update stuck at Checking for Updates and can't install Updates manually

Hi antoniu200:

Many other Vista users have reported that Windows Update seems to get stuck at "Checking for updates..." for long periods of time, and this problem dates back to the August 2015 Patch Tuesday updates - see my screenshots in ScousaJAY's thread windows update just seems to hang while checking in the VistaForums. This month's December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates required a full hour on my machine before it finished the  "Checking for updates..." phase and finally presented a list of available updates, so you might want to try running a manual Windows Update and leaving your computer alone for an hour or so to see if it eventually runs to completion.

You might also want to read Nikilet's recent thread Updates were not configured correctly in that same forum.  Some Vista users, including myself, received an error message this month stating "Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes. Please do not turn off your computer" when they tried to install the December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates.  Six updates for the Vista OS and one cumulative update for IE9 were marked as "Failed" on my machine after Windows forced an automatic rollback and re-boot of my machine.  I re-ran Windows Update today and all Important updates that failed yesterday eventually installed successfully ("Checking for updates..." still took about one hour and I declined one Recommended update KB3112148 for Vista and one Optional update KB3106614 for Silver... I recently (one week ago) made myself a dual-boot to Windows Vista SP2. I installed everything I needed and set the Windows updates to Automatically install updates. When I needed to make a video smaller (no need to talk about this in this thread) on Handbrake it said I needed Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0. I was surprised to see that. I went to see what Windows updates does and it wasn't checking for updates, as I set it to do. I started the check myself. I left it like that 30 minutes. When I closed my game, it was in the same state: checking for updates. So, I went to my .NET Framework 4 installer and, after 15 minutes, it gave an error: another installer is running. There were no installers, besides Windows update. So, I closed its process and let the installer run. After 15 minutes, it gave me an error (I don't remember the name of the error, I'll post it ASAP). So, I started researching, tried everything (MS FIXIT 50202, reset windows update history, reregister windows update components which gave me error 1060 and error 5 - error 5 is after trying MS FIXIT). I tried to "force" the .NET Framework 4 install by installing it step-by-step: 1.1  1.1 SP1  3.5  4. No succes. I AT LEAST need to install that .Net Framwork somehow. And the most interesting part is that my antivirus doesn't say that my OS is not up-to-date . SPECS: 6GB RAMAMD Athlon ll X4 750K 3.2-4.0 GHzAMD Radeon R7 240 4GB GDDR3

Hi,

Firstly thanks for your help.

I have a problem with windows update kb3045999. It has caused a lot of problems on my system, with programs not loaded after booting (eg notepad, IE etc return error code The application was unable to start (0xc0000018). I understand that this is a known error and many have posted about it online. I can reboot my computer a number of times and eventually the programmes will work as normal, however that is a bit of a pain.

From reading online it appears the way to fix the problem is to uninstall the update. I thought I had done that but the error kept happening. I then had the idea of reinstalling the update and uninstalling again in-case it did not uninstall correctly, however when I try to install the update it advises me that it is already installed and when I try to uninstall it using the wusa /uninstall command I am advised that the update is not installed.

Any ideas on what to do?

Thanks

Michael

This girl on our floor is getting all of the symptoms of the good ole blaster worm and it's 1 minute to reboot issues. I figured I could just windows update until I fix it.
So I install the updates. They install fine, no errors, and windows update says they're installed. Reboot, the same updates are listed. Try once again, and again it says the same ones are listed after I reboot. So I try through automatic updates, and, once again, the same thing. The updates just aren't installing besides saying that they are installed.
I then download the stand-alone blaster worm patch. Run it, and right after I click "I Agree" and hit next, the window just closes, no errors or anything. Try again, same thing. Try in safe mode, same thing.
I've never had a problem with this before, does anyone have any recommendations?

Answer:Windows Update installs updates, but they're still listed under updates

I had the same thing on a system I was working on. I ran Spybot and Ad-aware and cleaned off so much crap... But I had to let Spybot start at reboot to catch the app-killer. Try that and see if you can get those updates to take. It may be some nastiness in the box. Umm, no pun intended.

Then why does Windows Update keep failing? Automatic updates have failed for at least a week now (no I did not install software so don't ask). When I try to manually install updates, this is the message I get:

"Update for Windows (KB977074) is already installed on this computer"

The following updates are listed in Windows Update as "failed" and/or "pending"
978207
972270
974571
975467
978506
978332/978331 (I assume I only need 332)
977074

All of these updates show the same behavior when I try to install them, and Windows Automatic Updates has had no success in installing them either.

Also when viewing websites it keeps saying "certificate error" meaning im having to click "show blocked content" on every site i visit! The smart screen filter says its temporarily unavailiable but has been for several days now and not chamnged. And finally, i went into the updates section, tried to search for new updates as i thought this may be the problem, and it come up with "Errors found Code 80072F8F"

I have a problem with a video driver that wants to be installed, but when it's installed the system becomes unstable (it can hang or automatically restart). This is a long standing problem on certain ASUS notebooks with certain NVIDIA display adapters. The driver is for the NVIDIA GeForce 9650M GT display adapter on an ASUS M70Vn with a 64-bit architecture. I am currently using the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, which provides a stable environment and works good enough for my purposes. How can I prevent the NVIDIA driver from being installed with the Windows updates? In earlier versions of Windows (for example, Windows 7), you could select which updates to install by putting a checkmark in front of the updates you wanted installed. Not so with Windows 10. All you get is a list of updates that are available and a click-box that says "Install now". I'm running Windows 10 version 1511 (OS Build 10586.0).

Answer:How do you select which Windows 10 updates to be installed?

Hello mvaugeri, and welcome to Ten Forums.

I'm afraid that there's not an option to select which updates to install by default in Windows 10.

If you like, you should be able to uninstall and hide the update though.

I have been having some strange issues related to the big update that was released yesterday (specifically, the one labeled as KB2919355 in Windows Update). When I went to download the update, the progress indicator froze at "4% Complete". When I went to shut down last night, it actually installed that update (apparently it did download even though Windows Update thinks it didn't). When I booted back up this morning, Windows Update was showing that same update as being available even though it's already listed in the Installed Updates section.

After trying various methods to get it to work properly (renaming the SoftwareDistribution directory via admin-level Command Prompt, uninstalling and attempting to reinstall the update both via Windows Update and the manual packages), I'm now at the point where I was before, except that Windows is now showing a second already-installed update as being available as well (KB2933809).

How do I resolve this issue? I don't want to hide the updates as I'm afraid that might affect future updates (since most updates released after a Service Pack are typically dependent on having it installed to begin with).

Answer:Windows shows installed updates are available

I've avoided installing this update. I'm afraid it will mess up my computer.

Help! Tried to do a search regarding this, but my older Mac is having problems with this Web site.

I have an old Dell Dimension 4400 using the Home version of XP. I believe I have the latest service pack for Windows. Was asked if I wanted to install Windows updates. I agreed to this. Windows tried to reboot, but only came up with the black screen, saying that it was unable to reboot. I have tried using "Last Known Configuration That Works," which didn't work. I can hear the drive repetitively whirring as if it's trying to do something. Thanks for any suggestions.

Well, problem solved and so far, so good. I used the Dell Installation CD. I put in the CD then, when I got the message "press any key to boot from CD," I did so. I did find that pressing "R" to repair XP's installation did not do anything other than call up a prompt. On the Dell Web site, I found a post that said to enter "CHKDSK /r." It took about 45 minutes, then I was able to boot normally, thank goodness

They appear several times on the list of successfully installed updates but each time I go to shut down the PC an exclamation mark shows on the button and a message says that it is installing them during shut down. How do I deal with this?

Answer:Installed Windows Updates keep reappearing

Well, it's not often this forum fails to provide any answers within 24 hrs. However I managed to find the solution myself in the Microsoft Community site so rather than leave this one unanswered here it is.
Windows Vista and Windows 7 users follow these steps to repair the .NET Framework 4 [or .NET Framework 4.5.1] installation:
Close any currently running applications.
Click Start, and type Uninstall in the Search box and then click Uninstall a program.
Right-click Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile [or Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1] to launch the .NET Framework 4 Client Profile [or Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1] Maintenance dialog and click uninstal.
Select Repair .NET Framework 4 Client Profile [or Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1] to its original state and click Next.
Allow the repair to complete and then click Finish.
Click Restart Now to restart your computer.
Run a manual check for updates and attempt to install the updates again.
After running the Repair, reboot then test by running a manual check for updates & seeing if the .NET 4 [or .NET 4.5.1] updates will successfully install now.

AFAICT the only updates installed in the last two plus weeks have been MSE definition updates. The last real updates were installed on 11 April. Even though I do not restart my computer often I am sure this only started recently. It has done it for four restarts in the last 24 hours.

Any thoughts? Does this indicate a problem with WU or any previoulsy installed updates which all seem to be reported as succesful?

Answer:Windows Installed New Updates...but it didn't

Apart from a few updates at the usual time, there has also been a windows live update and an MSE version 5, which would be downloaded as an update.
Just as a check, change the way updates are handled by setting to just notify you but not download or install. At least then we know it's nothing just arrived.
If it continues we'll have to look further.

If you like, you should be able to uninstall and hide the update though.

everytime I start up my laptop...."Failure to configure updates, reverting changes"...what is going on???

Answer:Just installed some new Windows Updates and I keep getting this message...

That sent me to update and it gives me 16 new ones - but I notice it gives me some dot net 4 ones.  I purposely do not have 4 on my system (big pig).  I'll wait a few days.  don't have a solution for you. Edit : just discovered that a bit of dot net 4 was on my system.  removed it with Aaron stuben's (sp?) fixit.  will reboot and try to see what update now wants to put up.

First off I want to say that this is a very nice forum. I have been reading through various posts for about for about a month now. I decided to register when my dad called me the other day about his computer updating. What happened was after doing an upgrade from Vista to 7 Ultimate at the very end of the upgrade where Windows does all necessary updates, it said that it was installing over 6000 updates. I thought it was kind of strange at this point but did not think much more once it completed. It only took it about 10 minutes. Well yesterday it said it was installing 6000 more updates. Everything works perfect but there is no way that his computer needed over 12000 updates in one month. Have any of you ever seen this. I searched the forum and multiple other places and came back with nothing. Thanks in advance for the help.

Answer:Windows 7 installed 6000 updates??

Welcome jdlord,
I don't have any answer for you but I have Never heard of that many updates on one computer.
I'll be watching this thread to see if anyone else has though.
I don't see how that could even be necessary.

sheshank45,
Did you recently install/reinstall/upgrade the operating system? If yes, did you install the Dell System Software (if applicable) and the chipset drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order
Windows 7/8 is supposed to provide the webcam drivers for most Dell computers. If you system needs webcam drivers, go to Drivers and Downloads enter your service tag, then select your operating system. If your system needs webcam drivers, they'll be listed under Input.
(Windows 8)How to make the webcam work with help from this YouTube. You have to open the Camera app first, and then click Settings on the charm bar to see where you can give the app permission to use the webcam.
Try reading...
Using and Troubleshooting the Dell Webcam and Dell Webcam Central Software You can try this file, also known as Dell Webcam Central Version 1.40.05 .

Make a system restore point.
Start, control panel, device manager, Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign. Go to each USB Root Hub. Right click on it, left click uninstall.
Restart your computer. When you login, the new hardware wizard will reinstall everything. Please be patient, it could take up to 2 minutes.
Try the webcam and see if it works.

If no, then the webcam became detached from the motherboard, usually near the webcam

Hello
I have a potential question - yesterday night my Win7 x64 Home Premium installed 6 new updates, they were installed after shut down, one after another, after going to 100% system shut down.
After that, today morning I went to BIOS after turning on, because I wanted to confirm my settings are 100% default there (besides RAM set to 1600mhz) and after looking there i exited via "discard changes and exit" (did not change anything at all, just want to see what are things set to be sure).

Next on the screen WINDOWS STARTING i had some path like Registry/machine/etc. ? something like that then system rebooted and ended installing updates as usual, saw this before after updates were installed.

Now onto my question - could potentially something might go wrong because of me going to BIOS on the next PC launch? I know that BIOS is not related to system and general HDD content, but this was first time I had situation like this, so can you confirm - is going to BIOS like this, after Win had installed updates with shutting down, and after next boot go first to BIOS (UEFI actually) and then booting system and finishing update procedure is 100% safe?

Answer:Going to BIOS after Windows installed updates?

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
First of all windows does not shut down to install updates it restarts or boots,
Interrupting that process is not a good idea,
Cheers.

I seem not too be able to get my windows 8 updates too install. I tried for 2 months too get them to install. Then ignored all those too see if those updates were in error or something. Then tried install the next set of updates and the same thing. They just would not install none of them. I even used a microsoft fix it solution too get those updates to install and that didnt work. So im at a complete loss. It tells me every day too reboot my pc so updates can install. They just plain dont install. Surely their has to be a way get them on my system. like a big exe file that contains all the updates for the last few months

Hi all and my apologies if this is a stupid question on my first visit to the site...I have a degree in those.
I am looking at buying a W10 laptop not my main machine (important machines are my W7 ones which I wont be looking to change) and have a single question that I would like to get a definitive answer to:
in Any version; can I choose what updates are installed rather than whatever is pushed out from Redmond. I dont mean can I delay or defer, I mean can I chose to Never accept any update I decide to?
I have seen the following post How to block unwanted Windows Updates in Windows 10 when doing a random web search, which seems to say I can; but because it is dated 2015 and MS policy changes when the wind does and because it is not clear if it applies to only Non "Home" versions, I would like to clarify. If this patch/download allows this, is it still available now?
Any assistance appreciated.

Answer:Can I choose what Updates are installed on Windows 10?

Yes, that Show or Hide Update tool still works.
But if you choose to not install some, future updates may become unavailable to you.

My friends and I have the same problem...I have Win 7 for about a year, and never had any problems with updates, until now..after all updates installed, the cpu will get really hot, cooler will work non stop, even if I'm doing nothing in windows, and computer will get really slow..sometimes even when I click on start, it will be very slowly displayed. My friends have a single core, and same problem...everything is fine until they install updates...then computer start to hang, and is really slow. Now I'm using Win 7 without any new installed updates, and everything is fine...what update is causing the problem ? Does anybody have similar experience ? I never had similar problems earlier, nor with Win 7, nor with Vista and so on...

Answer:Windows 7 slowdown after new updates installed

Install the updates one at at time to determine the culprit. If the problem one is not important, just, uninstall and then hide it, do not install again.

Answer:Yoga: Has anyone installed the Windows Updates from Tuesday

Yep. I definitely had issues. I got a "failure to install updates" and some message about having to revert. Ugh. Somehow I eventually got it to install...I'm not even sure what I did. I know I tried manually installing all the Windows 8 updates released in November, and then I tried both the Windows Update application accessible from the Control Panel in the Desktop environment and the Windows Update available in the Metro environment. If I had to guess it was the fact that I manually installed as many updates as I could, and then used the Update Windows functionality in the Metro (or whatever) interface. Good luck. It was irritating. And now I'm battling trackpad issues. Ugh.

Saturday, Dec 30 I installed some automatic updates and now I am having problems!! I have Windows XP and OE 6. Now, if I click on a link in an email (for example), a new window does NOT open up, taking me to the site, whereas before the updates, when I clicked on a link, it did take me to the site. Second example, when Ebay send me an email with things on my 'watch' list, before I would click on the item and a window would open up to the items page. This does not happen anymore. I can't even print, cuz it requires another screen/window to pop-up. Its like I've got the BEST pop-up blocker in the world!! Every time I click on something (that should open up to a site) I get an error message and IE closes down, asking me if I want to send the error message to Microsoft.
I have tried to System Restore to different dates & times at least 1/2 dozen times and it won't work. Do I need to uninstall the last updates, and if so, how do I do that? I've been to the Microsoft website, but again, when I click on something that sounds right to help me, I get an error message cuz it requires a new window to open. A friend of my daugthter's told me to install Mozilla, so at least now I can be on the internet. I can't do that anymore from IE, it won't open!! Can someone help me??? Give me some suggestions, ideas, etc. Thanks.

I am assuming I would get more updates than these.
Running version 1511 build 10586

Is it because Win10 is too new ???

And I kept pressing the Check for Updates button and it said no more new updates.

I've been using Kerio firewall for a while now (on Windows XP), and with no problems. However, I've been noticing that every time I boot my computer, after five minutes or so the automatic updates icon appears in my system tray. Thought it was odd that this was happening every time and tried updating manually, but while my computer downloaded the updates okay, it couldn't seem to install them. It seems that for the last month I haven't downloaded any updates at all without realising, and I think Kerio might be blocking the updates. Any ideas how I can stop it, short of turning off the firewall?

Thanks.

Answer:Kerio blocking Windows updates from being installed?

Hi emmaW
When you install That kind of program it will read your pc and allow it to operate as you have it set or will give you the chance to set it If you remove your firewall with add & remove and reinstall it I would think that would cure it.
Goodluck

I am having trouble with Windows Updates installing successfully; been having this problem for weeks now and have tried several things to fix the problem but no luck what so ever. Everyday my computer says I have 7 new important updates to update. I have installed them all at once, individually, and individually from the direct website but they still keep popping up everyday. When I install them, the installation says it was successful with no error codes but evidently it's not successful if it comes up everyday. Any help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks.

Answer:The same Windows Updates keep popping up everyday even after I've installed them.

Welcome
This fortunately is very easy to solve. When you get the updates, right click on each and then click on hide. You will not see them, again.

Briefly says "starting Windows", but then the screen flashes and displays "Windows failed to start".

If I select "start normally" the cycle just repeats and repeats and I never get to the log-in page.

Startup repair fails every time and can't fix the problem.

If I go into advanced boot options and use last good configuration, it will sometimes start. I then do a system restore and everything works fine again.

Problem is, when I shut down it starts applying updates again and then the problem resurfaces.

Does anyone know what could be going on?

Answer:Windows 7 fails to start after updates installed.

Apparently the latest "cumulative update" has been causing problems for a small percentage of Windows 10 users.
I was able to restore it as you did, however I also decided to delay installation of the updates for now.
Seems to be the only fix I know of as of now....maybe someone else may chime in if they have further.

Hi. After installing a new update, my mouse cannot detect.
How to remove an installed update?

Answer:How to remove installed updates in windows vista

Open the Microsoft Update Window. From there on the left side you will see view update history. Click that. From there you want to select the Installed Updates link at the top. That will allow you to remove Windows Updates.

But you should check for updated driver software. As the updates are there for a reason.

I have also downloaded the tool "wushowhide.diagcab" to hide Unwanted Updates. I've had consistent problems installing KB2656351. I got no error messages doing the update, but it kept reappearing in my list of WU. Finally, after running repair, Fixit, etc., Windows showed the KB2656351 update to both the .NET framework 4 Client Profile and .NET framework 4 Extended successfully installed on March 8, 2013, and both appear in the Windows Update list Update History and also in the list of Installed Updates, as well as in Control Panel. The update continued to appear for download/installation, however, and I finally hid it. Belarc indicates the KB2656351 has not been installed, and lists the update as Critical rather than Important (as WU does).

Is this update actually installed, or do I need to take further action?

I've been running Delorme Topo 5.0 under Windows Vista 32-bit without any problems. Topo 5.0 some time ago was also running under Windows Vista x64. After a re-installation of Windows Vista x64 I put off installing Topo 5.0. Recently after a successful installation of Delorme Topo 5.0, when Topo 5.0 is exectured there is a Topo 5.0 window without any menus and maps.

Windows Vista x64 is updated with all the latest Microsoft updates.

I haven't been able to find any help on this problem from the Delorme Community.

It appears there's some sort of incompatibility with one or more of the more recent Windows Updates, but can't off-hand think of which one(s) would effect Topo 5.0 menuing. I believe the problem may also exist with later versions of Delorme Topo as well.
