Solved: Green Volume Bar on Screen Displaying Volume

Question: Solved: Green Volume Bar on Screen Displaying Volume

Before I upgraded to Vista, there use to be a green bar at the bottom of the screen, so whenever you increased/decreased the volume, you would know.

This has disappeared.

Anyone know where a copy of this "OnScreen Display' Tool can be found?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have T61 with fresh install Window 7. After Win7 the laptop is VERY fast. The difference is incredible! I was running XP and everything worked perfect, now the green-colored volume indicators that appear on the LCD screen is NOT working. Yes, I did downloaded the driver(s) from Lenovo site and made the rest work just fine. Blue button works as well and when I open ThinkVantage I don't get any error. Any idea/help greatly appreciated. (I can live with out it, but it would be nice to have a perfect running laptop) TIAIvone

The mute/volume controls on my Thinkpad T410 is a little spotty and the screen brightness controls work but don't show the green brightness meter that I'm used to from older Thinkpads.   Is there a thinkvantage software that specifically adds the volume/screen green bars? FYI I have the T410 with WinXP and none of the Thinkvantage software currently installed (except Presentation Director which is giving me separate issues). Thanks in advance to whoever I'll be giving the accepted solutions to!  Ricky

Those are included with the Hotkeys package, so install that, and you should have those on-screen menu's again.

Hi,

I have a Qosmio G20 which i bought in Japan last year and have since changed it over to English operating system and drivers. However one thing ive noticed that is different from the Japanese set up is that everytime i adjust the Volume level using the wheel on the right hand side of the laptop, a large green Volume level display comes up on the screen. I want to get rid of this cos it takes up nearly half of the screen. The Japanese version didnt have this problem.

I checked all the settings in Control Panel and various Properties sections as well but couldnt find anything.

Any suggestions how to remove it? Any other Qosmio users have this on their screen?

Thanks.

It's normal and disappears after 2/3 seconds.

Hi,

I have a Satellite Pro A300 with a volume dial. When you change the volume using it, it works (although it does not work as the system is starting which is really annoying, especially when you turn it on each day in a library) however there is usually no on screen indicator to show what level the volume is at. Once, I have seen an indicator display which looked to be apart Toshiba Hot Key Utility but after a restart it disappeared again.

It is really impractical not being able to see what level the volume is at as you change it. Can anyone help me out here? Marks going for anyone who can help me sort out the start up volume level as well!

Answer:Satellite Pro A300: No volume indicator displaying on screen

hi CiRi,

try using the "Fn+esc" keys to mute your system....
it will stay muted even at reboot...

if none of the keys have a special "Fn" function reinstall the "value added package" and "hotkeys" from the toshiba download page.

As per the query we understood that you are not getting Onscreen Display of the function keys on your ThinkPad T4230.

To resolve this issue you have to install the supporting drivers and application.

Download latest graphic driver, Lenovo power management, Lenovo power manager & Hotkey feature application and install it one by one.

Note: If you have already installed any of the above application, please uninstall it and then restart the system after that install the above applications.

Normally it shows several vertical bars next to eachother that fill up or deplete corresponding to the volume. The function key works fine for other things, such as Fn+up/down to adjust screen brightness. If I click the sound icon in the tray in the lower right hand corner, then use Fn+left/right it will raise/lower the sound but very slowly (still with no screen indication).

Answer:Lenovo Y560p Fn+left/right arrows (volume) not displaying normally on screen

Fixed my problem: "Lenovo Energy Management" was the issue. Supposed to uninstall it and reinstall, but could not find it to uninstall. I just reinstalled over it and restarted my computer and it was fixed. My msconfig file under startup programs shows 2 different energy management entries (with only one checked). Kind of bothers me. Oh well, basically fixed. The energy management install file was on the Lenovo site.

Go to CONTROL PANEL > DISPLAY PROPERTIES > SETTINGS > ADVANCED. you should have 5 standard menus and about 8 ATI tabs and there should be a tab that says ON SCREEN DISPLAY click on this and that should give you the settings you need for volume/brightness/light and one other setting to be displayed on screen

I'm not sure if this happened with 5.55, but with 5.56, when I hit the volume up or down on my keyboard to turn the sound down for everything, it turns down winamp's volume bar too. Sometimes I can move winamp's volume bar up and down and it won't even be working. What causes this? It's pretty annoying for the music to turn down twice as fast or winamp's volume bar to not even work at all.EDIT: Moved to a more appropriate forum

I have an HP f2105 21" monitor running on Windows 7 x64. The Icon stands in front of all other screens and cannot be dismissed. It quits when it's ready after a few seconds. It pops up every 3-4 minutes or so. My drivers are up to date. I've tried disconnecting the monitor and reconnecting it. Turning it off and on, etc. So far nothing has helped.

Hello melb1946Does your keyboard have volume buttons? I know in my experiences I have sometimes run into similar scenarios. In my case the problem was accidentally hitting the volume button on my keyboard. How is your sound setup in Windows 7? Is your monitor set as the default sound device? Do other sound devices increase their volumes?Probably one of the best ways to isolate the problem would be to put the monitor on another computer and see if the sound continues to appear and go up.

Okay so I went to hop on my desktop today, it wasn't waking up when I move mouse etc, which was odd because it was on. So I restarted it and I've had two options for windows 10 for a while now volume 1 and 4 I don't know why, I've always used 1 but now when I click 1 it just goes to black screen, monitor is awake cause my light turns blue when it is, I pressed windows key with something I forgot what button while in black screen and sound was coming through. So I restated again and went on volume 4 and that worked fine out dated stuff since I haven't used it but it was working. I would like to get back on my main volume, or at least know what the issue is.

i did a Nvidia graphic card update a day or two ago as well.
i also tried to go to the troubleshoot screen when you open windows 10 which worked fine, but when I clicked restore to a previous time-black screen- and then I tried removing everything completely clicked that option -black screen-
Thanks for help ahead of time!!

Answer:Windows 10 black screen on volume 1(main) and not Volume 4(old)

UPDATE: so I went into volume 4 and attempted a complete wipe again, once I clicked it screen went black for a while and no sign it was working, so now I put in my windows XP disk and am going to attempt a clean install of that, then just upgrade to windows 10.

I have a HP dv5-1235dx laptop; windows 7;64 bit. All of the touch keys work including the touch pad (I like using a mouse). My computer has a slider bar above the keyboard for volume. When you slide your finger across the volume displays on the screen (blue bar). My problem: I do have volume, but the bar on the screen no longer displays. I have contacted HP and downloaded the Quick Touch keys software and also the updated BIOS. This still does not fix my bar showing.
I had another problem recently with email links being blocked and found a fix through a forum which had to do with the registry being changed to Chrome, which I no longer have on the computer.
Could my problem with the display bar also be a setting changed in the registry? If so, would you know what I need to change it back so everything works.
Really don't want to reform the whole computer.

I just noticed that the green hotkeys volume bar has disappeared from two R500?s (2714-CTO) thatI own. Both are running Windows 7 professional. One is running Windows 7 Professional 32 bit, whileThe other is running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. The 64 bit machine has just been re-imaged from a set of original Lenovo supplied recovery DVD?s. The reload process installed Norton Internet Security (2009). After the re-load was complete, I installed Windows 7 SP1 from an original Microsoft Windows 7 SP1 DVD. Next, I manually installed the latest version of Update Retriever and System Update, turned on the antenna for the first time, and ran System Update to update all Lenovo drivers. The other machine has been running Windows 7 professional 32 bit since being purchased in 2009. It has never been re-imaged, and the green volume bar was working until recently. Both are currently running Hotkey Features Integration V3.89.0000, and Lenovo Power Management V1.67.04.05.   Any ideas on which software, and which version of that software, is needed to get that functionality back.

Answer:Green Hotkeys Volume bar has disappeared

Hi All,I did some research, and came across the following, as mentioned in:http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-8-and-8-1/ThinkPad-On-Screen-Display-hotkeys-for-older-systems-T... ?To make OSD work, you might need to install Hotkey driver and Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package. To test if this is your issue, run C:\DRIVERS\HOTKEY\OSD\tposdsvc.exe and see if it complains that msvcr100.dll is missing. If it does, install Visual C++ and it should work after that.? What is not said, but what is critical, is that you have to install the 32 bit version of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package, even on a 64 bit version of Windows 7 Professional. You then have to reboot the computer after the install for the change to take effect. I know because I initially tested this concept on my R500, running a 32 bit version of Windows 7, and it worked like a charm. I then tested it on my R500, running a 64 bit version of Windows 7, and assumed that it would require installing the 64 bit version of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package for this to work. I was wrong. As a lark, I uninstalled the 64 bit version of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package and installed the 32 bit version of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package. Success! I must admit that I don?t understand the technical reason for this. If someone would like to provide an explanation, I would love to hear it. Case closed.

I'm using a backlit keyboard made by Sunbeam Tech on an HP pc running Windows XP Pro, and the keyboard has separate buttons to mute, increase, and decrease sound. The word 'volume' and blocks in bright green flash near the bottom of the screen whenever the backlight is on even if no sounds are being played. When I turn off the backlight feature, the flashing goes away, and when I turn the backlight on, the flashing green returns. I'd appreciate it if someone might know of someway I could eliminate the flashing green but still have the backlight on. Thank you.

Now, I'm getting the same Master Volume deal but except it appears at the top of the screen and a large rectangle around it apears too in a pink / purple colour covering everything behind it. How do you change how windows handles this if you can?

It also happens when I turn press num lock and caps lock (same pink rectangle).

I'm using windows XP and ive done NOTHING I think to change how it operates.

Hey there! A few days ago I changed my hdd because the last one got corrupted and had a lot of bad sectors so I installed a new windows 7 OS. Everything was smooth until the sound suddenly stopped. I wasn't doing anything in particular. I noticed the green bar on the volume control is moving but I had no sound. I plugged headphones in - same thing. Anyways it fixed with a reboot and I thought it was a one time bug. But it happened 4 times already and the only other thing that fixes it beside rebooting is uninstalling the sound device from the device manager and installing it again. What is causing this? I downloaded my Realtek drivers and I ran them with the setup.exe file and they are currently installed on my PC but they don't seem to do anything. These are pictures from the various things I wanted you to see that look normal:

imgur: the simple image sharer

What may be causing this and how can I fix it?

Answer:No audio but the green sound bar on the volume control is moving?

Welcome to the Windows 7 Forum.

The first thing I see is you do not have the correct sound driver installed. I don't know what your hardware is but what is listed is the "High Definition Audio Device" which is the Windows installed generic sound driver. You should install the correct driver from your PC vendor.

In addition I see the NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device and that has caused some problems in the past. Temporarily disable that in the Device Manager and see if that helps.

Please fill in the "My System Specs". It helps us to try and help you.

Can I get an on screen volume display for my HP keyboard?

I already installed the drivers for it, as well as the software that comes with it. The thing is, that when use the volume knob or hit mute, it indicates it in a lil popup bubble in the system tray...

On my old multimedia keyboard, it showed on my monitor, like as in it showed a number of bars to indicate the volume..

Is there any software I can get to make it display it on my monitor like that, instead of putting it in the popup bubble?

Thanks.

I have recently been doing some house-cleaning (removing old programs, cleaning registry, etc.), and now the screen indicators (sound level and mute indicator) are not showing up on my computer anymore. The functions work to adjust the sound and mute it, but the indicators don't show up.

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 using Windows XP SP3 with a GForce Flat Panel monitor, a Turtle Beach "Santa Cruz" sound card and a GE keyboard (it was a keyboard from Dell w/ programmable keys, but it died)...anyway the same driver works fine on the keyboard.

I would appreciate any help that anyone can provide.

My Studio 1535 (laptop with Vista) suddenly stopped showing any display a few days ago.  I have tried disconnecting the power cord and the battery, and doing a shutdown by holding down the power key, but none of these methods have had any effect.  I have had nothing but a blank screen, but when I attach an external monitor, everything is operating properly on the external monitor, so it doesn't seem to be a processor issue.  The day this started, I went to boot up the computer and there was a lot of beeping going on, so I had to remove the batter and the power cord to make it stop.
I also have flashing volume control keys, and was wondering if that might be a clue to what is going on, and what needs to be corrected?  The Mute key and the Volume Up key are flashing on and off at the same time.  The Volume Down key is steadily on.  I will say that prior to about two weeks ago, the Media shortcut keys had all stopped working for about a year.  Suddenly they started working again, (and actually continue to work), but the monitor is just a black screen.  Any idea if this could be a backlight issue, video chip issue or something else?  I'd like to at least be able to salvage the laptop for my kids to use if the fix is not too expensive.  Thanks!
(This all began after a recent iTunes update, but I'm not thinking that is related.  Just throwing it out there.)

Answer:Studio 1535 monitor not displaying, volume controls flashing

Hi DraagynLady,
Let's try the following steps and see it works.Run the LCD BIST.
To run the LCD BIST (Built in Self-test):

Power off the computer
Press and hold the D key on the keyboard while pressing the power button, then release both at the same time.
This will initiate A grey screen, then Red, then Blue, then Green, then White

I would recommend you to check the status of the volume keys. You may watch the video for possible LED codes that may display with the possible failure:

Please reply if you have any questions.

I am having the same problem of having a gray box in the middle of my screen displaying a volume control. It pops in and out and covers the screen behind it. I have tried restore, then wipe and reload but it keeps coming back. I have tried turning of all sound devices and no luck. I see someone else posted the same problem a while back and no solution was found. I have the same E-Machine computer that was mentioned by the lister.

Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me with something. My mom's friend is having a problem with her computer. All her husband did was delete 500 email messages out of outlook express at one time and then the computer messed up. when they restart they have an option of choosing safe mode, normal windows, etc. No matter what they choose, it says it can't start and goes to a blue screen of death with this error: unmountable_boot_volume
STOP: 0X000000ED(0X81A97538, 0XC000009C, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)
They had ran a test or something and it found 41 errors and said something about an error: IDE uncorrectable data error or media is write protected.

They have a Dell computer, XP, that's about all I know. Any help would be greatly appreciated on how to fix this. Thanks!

Hello,

On my newly purchased Pro A200/PSAE7 the (hardware) volume control - front side, right from speaker plug - turns endless and when using it the volume does not change "smooth" - more "abrupt". Because of this there is no "fine tuning" possible.

Q: Does somebody else has the same hardware side (endless turn) and software side (no smooth volume change) situation?

Many thanks for any reply in advance!

Best regards,
andreas

Answer:Sat Pro A200/PSAE7 - Volume Control turns endless, no smooth volume change

Hello,

"problem" of abrupt volume change when turning volume control disappeared. I am not sure if this is based on disable "TDispVol.exe" as start-up service or another reason.

Best regards,

So I have a Blue Yeti, and I'm an online animator/voice actor. Whenever I record audio on my Blue Yeti (OR any other mic) I record about 4-6 inches from the mic, and turn the gain down enough that the audio doesn't peak as I yell or whatever. This is what you're supposed to do if you don't want your audio levels peaking and making your recording sound horrible and corrupted. However, afterwards, it means I have really quite recordings. Not a problem right? Now that it's recorded right, I can boost the volume of the entire clip afterwards right? WRONG. I'm not an audio expert so I must be missing something. But why in GODS NAME would the audio distort and peak AFTER it's recorded successfully? It's all there, it's all clean audio. If I turn the volume on my speakers all the way up it sounds CRYSTAL CLEAR! All I want to do is do that INSIDE the computer so that when I upload it to youtube people don't have to turn their speakers so far up. But if I increase the clips volume in the computer, it distorts! It sounds awful! Why?! I tried in Sony Acid and Audacity and they both do the same thing! Why?! I seriously don't understand what I'm missing here! I can take sound effects, and recordings made by other producers and crank them up nice and loud, but mine just fall apart! If anyone understands audio stuff, please tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Answer:Soft Recording volume with Blue Yeti, increasing volume distorts audio

I have a home recording studio using Sonar X1 software.

I don't know about Acid, but it should allow clean recordings. Audacity the same way.

I record, generally, in the -10 level with my recording program, at 24 bits/44.1 Khz. At -10, I have plenty of headroom and can then adjust the levels after the recordings and at mixdown. I export the mix as a standard 16 bit/44.1Khz wav file and then "finalize" whatever I want to do to the song, including levels, with "Goldwave" (an audio editior).

I assume you are converting the audio to MP3? If that is the case, that may be where the distortion is occuring? I find that 128Kb MP3's are very poor and at a minimum use 198 Kb MP3's.

Hi all,

I have Toshiba Portege M800, and I have a problem with the volume wheel.
If I try to increase or decrease the volume by this volume wheel, it will change, but the volume not change linear.

For example, when I increase volume from 0 to something, volume is changed, during rolling, e.g. from 0-1-2-3-4-5-3-8-6 (thats just an example).

Why doesn't it change linear, e.g. 0-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 ?
Is it caused by software or it is hardware problem?

Could I claim the goods?

Thanks.

Answer:Portege M800 - volume wheel issue - volume level jumps

Hi

I have had a similar issue with the volume level on my Satellite notebook.
I tired everything; updated the BIOS, sound driver? I have also reinstalled my OS using the Roecvery disk but I didn?t notice any improvements.

Finally my ASP technician checked the volume wheel and cleaned the contacts and removed some dust.
This was the key?
The dirt affected the volume wheel functionality?

In my cases this helped but this does not mean that this will help you as well.
I think you should also update the BIOS and should check if you could update the sound driver.
If this will not help then it would be recommended to contact the ASP technician for opinion?

Gentlemen,

I know I should read and followed the pinned piece before I asked for help, but given the emergency please excuse me,...here is what I encountered:

Blue Screen of death w/ description says uncorrectible hardware error, I guess that's truly bad.

I did the memory test using sony vaio/ microsoft OEM, memory is good.

I did the system restore several times, although completed and says successful, but blue screen keep coming back.

I went ahead did the CHKDSK, took me 4 and half hours, found 1 bad cluster, but corrected it says, then when i reboot windows, Intel Matrix Storage Console pops up at lower right hand corner of computer, telling me  "a drive is failing, back-up asap; seems to me it's port 1.

I know I need to back up, but given this situation, does it mean i have no choice but to expect this solid state drive is dying and can't be repair??

This on is quite perplexing to me. This is stemming from a volume problem that I had posted before. I have more detail and have narrowed down the problem but not the cause of such. When ever I click the volume control in winamp, not adjust necessarily, just click, my wave setting in my volume control (pannel that comes up by double clicking the speaker in the tray) drops. Of course this affects my overall volume. It is sparatic and does not drop the same amount two times in a row but will drop everytime I click volume in winamp. I am running winXP pro and have not installed so much as an update since the last time this was happening. The only thing I did change is I set up voice recognition in Office XP but I was having this problem before that. I have uninstalled and cleaned out all winamp files and reinstalled. Any suggestions? Winamp is the only player of any kind that this currently happens with.

Also, whenever I am using winamp to play an mp3 or streaming audio and I open another program, any program, or even just minimize/maximize a window, the audio starts cracking. This also has never happend before except of course when there is a heavy load on the system. As I said I am running XP pro, and FYI a Duron 900 cpu and 448MB RAM. As I am having these problems I am using 5% to 10% of my cpu and have 21000k physical memory availible according to task mgr.

Thanks.

Answer:When clicking volume in WinAmp my wave setting in Volume Ctrl drops.

So I installed some new Windows updates today (whatever was available via Windows Update). I restarted my computer to enable the updates. When it came back on, my task bar was white for some reason. I solved that problem using the first solution I found here: [SOLVED] Taskbar is white

Well I didn't change my volume before doing that, so I don't know if it worked before I followed that solution. I do know that after following that solution, my volume meter no longer shows up when I change the volume via the keys for it on my keyboard. This is pretty annoying because it was convenient to always see my audio level when I adjusted the volume.

I am on a HP Pavilion dv7-6c95dx with beats audio, running Windows 7 64-bit. When I changed my volume, the beats audio logo with a volume meter under it would pop up, but it no longer shows up. I haven't noticed any change in the quality of my sound, and I can still actually adjust the volume level. The problem is the volume meter no longer displays to show me the volume level.

If anyone has any clue as to why this happened, that would be great!

Answer:Volume meter no longer displays when I adjust volume level

Try rolling back any keyboard driver updates, or go to the keyboard manufacturers website and download most up to date driver(s) from there.

I can?t see the volume display bar when I increase / decrease volume by Volume Wheel which I have got in my Toshiba Qosmio F20. It used to work but not working since I re-installed my WinXP MCE 2005. Actually it was not working when I installed xp first time 2 years back, but I re-installed my sound driver or hotkeys or something else (which I don?t remember) and then it worked.
Now I did almost everything but still not working.

Anyone can suggest something?

Hi,
Windows XP Home
RealPlayer 10.5

Ok, I used to have RealPlayer and all it's junk till I wised up
and removed it from my system over a year ago.

However, I recently installed the basic RealPlayer (that is...only allowing
the features that I needed for video/audio) in order to watch NASA TV
e.g. DEEP IMPACT and today's DISCOVERY launch.

My question is regarding why, when I mute or adjust the volume on
the RealPlayer, that it also does the same to the computer's Volume
Control (Speaker Icon in System Tray...Wave setting).

I had been viewing on the RealPlayer, muted the sound and then later
was wondering why I was not able to hear any of my videos, music, etc.
The thought occurred to me to check the Speaker Icon and, sure enough,
there was a check at Wave>>Mute.

Is there a setting I can check/uncheck that will allow RealPlayer and
Computer volume to be independent of one another?

Thank you,

Here is a question I can't seem to find the answer to in the archives.

How can adjust the volume output from my Windows ME machine (with SoundMax Digital Audio) so that the volume of the background music I like to listen to (via RealOne Player version 6.0.10.505) is quiet, but the other important sounds my PC makes (like email or calendar notifications) are loud enough so I can hear them?

I've seemingly tried all combinations of settings for the volume sliders/adjustments, including:

1) The volume knob on my speakers
2) The RealOne Player volume slider
3) The Windows volume control panel "Volume Control" slider
4) The WIndows volume control panel "PC Beep" slider

Even when the "PC Beep" volume slide is set to maximum, and the "Volume Control" slider is set near minimum in the Windows volume control panel, the PC beep is virtually inaudible when the background music is acceptably quiet (by adjusting the RealOne volume slider and/or the volume control on my speakers).

Am I doing something wrong? Is there some other way that I'm not thinking of to boost the volume of the system sounds my PC makes, while keeping the RealOne music volume low?

Thanks,

--Dean

My Windows 7 was installed in Drive C: in Primary partition.

I only have another drive D:, which is also a Primary partition and 200GB in size.

I need to create another drive. So, I use 'Shrink Volume' on Drive D: and free 30GB.

Then 30GB become free space and when I right click on that, I choose to 'Simple Volume' and then format it as NTFS and assign the drive letter E:. All of a sudden after I did that, all the partitions(C: and D now no longer say "Primary Partition". The blue color on top of the partitions also changed to a yellow/brownish color. My guess is that they have been converted to a Simple Volume too.

Well, then I just restart my PC and astonished that my windows 7 can't load. Only a blank screen come ahead to me. No error message given.

I use my Windows 7 DVD and in repair windows section, I use command line and by 'diskpart', i found, my all partition (C: and D: and E present their and there file system is: 'NTFS' and Type is "Simple". No drive there marked as a 'System' or 'boot'.

What should I do now, to recover my Windows 7?

Any kind of help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello,

I have a problem with adjusting the volume. When I adjust the volume using the button on the left side of the laptop, I only can choose 3 "loudness levels":

No volume, very silent volume, and maximum volume (to loud).

Is this normal, doesn't anyone have problems with this?
I expect the problem is because of the digital volume adjuster. The adjuster doesn't register the exact position of the volume button. Every time when I get a phone call at work (I listen to internet radio), I turn off the radio using the adjuster on the side of the laptop. When I end the phone call, I always need to open the laptop and adjust the volume in the windows task bar, because when I use the volume adjuster on the left side of the laptop, it just immediately goes to maximum volume.

Answer:Question about volume adjusting on volume button - Satellite Pro U300

Hi

It?s very strange that your sound volume control contains only 3 volume levels?
I have noticed that Toshiba has released a new sound driver (v. 6.0.1.5473) on the European driver page.

So how about the sound driver update?
The sound driver controls definitely the sound volume and in my opinion it?s a worth a try.

Good luck

Sorry but who says that volume regulator should pop up? This regulator will pop up just if you click on small volume symbol placed in task bar.
Moving volume control dial nothing will be shown, just the small icon will be changed and show one, two or three small lines depending on volume level.

When I play games, I tend to volume right down to get rid of the music etc,
but this also turns down the volume for notifications and then I don;t hear them.
Is there any way to control these volumes separately ?

Answer:How can I turn the volume off in a game I am playing without lowering my notifications volume?

Most games I've seen have an option to turn off music/effects within the game itself. Meaning you could hush them, but keep your notifications at whatever volume.

I recently upgraded my W700 to a clean Win7 Pro x64 install, downloaded the latest Win7 drivers from the Lenovo website, and did a manual install of all of them. Mostly there were no problems, however the OSD for mute, volume up/down, and brightness did not work. Here is the page for the Hotkey Features Integration package, which contains the OSD program: Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit), 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bi... The problem appears to be a bug in latest version of the OSD program, for the W700. I collected data on the various versions of the OSD utility; see below (I have used the overall package version as a reference, although the OSD program itself has a different version). Here is the fix: 1) Install the latest Hotkey Features Integration package. This gets the latest other packages, plus a broken version of OSD.2) Manually uninstall the OSD program (in Control Panel:Uninstall); reboot.3) Download and install the Hotkey Features Integration package version 3.85.0000. This is last version which works fully with the W700. Run the package installer, the run the installer itself. Make sure that only the OSD component is selected; run setup; reboot. That should fix it. It appears that the bug also exists in Win XP. Here is the info I have on the various versions: 3.33.0002 - OSD Works with W7003.81.0100 - OSD Works with W7003.84.2000 - OSD Works with W7003.85.0000 - OSD Works with W700 <&l... I have a truecrypt encrypted volume which is my entire hard drive.  This contains the windows OS and my files(one of many backed up encrypted copies).  I would now like to implement a 2nd truecrypt volume inside this present truecrypt volume.  Truecrypt calls this a hidden volume.  The idea is that at boot-up, you can use one of two passwords.  The one you choose dictates which (the primary or the hidden) volume.  The easy way to do this is to do it when first creating both truecrypt volumes but I did not realize I wanted to create this hidden volume until now.  All of the instructions I have seen require you to dismount the encrypted volume which will host the hidden volume first.  However I can't do that because I need that volume decrypted in order to run the truecrypt software which performs the function.

Any ideas other than decrypting the encrypted volume and starting from scratch?

I year ago i was trying to save power. I was having issues with my cpu overheating. I went somewhere in my pc, i forgot where and in an effort to lower power consumption, i combined sounds in the volume mixer. The cpu issue has been solved. Now i want to
open 3 web pages that all use sound and i want to be able to have 3 different volume levels for each. I've forgotten where I went to to combine the volume levels. That what i want to know: where to go, in windows,k where i can un-combine the volume levels.
thanks much.

Have an external USB hard drive caddy with a naked Raptor drive sitting in it which has one partition that is the entire capacity of the Raptor drive...this is an 'active' volume.
1. Can someone tell me if I delete the volume under Computer Management>Disk Management>Delete Volume will this return it to being an 'inactive' volume?
2. Also can you tell me after deletion will I need to initialise the drive in the usual way like when one installs a new drive in a PC?
3. Upon reboot will Windows just offer to initialise it within Disk Management?

I want it to just be a simple, basic, single partition drive just for data backup. In past it was my OS drive which is when it was made an active volume. Using W7/64bit professional.

Thanks...Gary

ok so this problem was just about from the beginning. i thought i would be patient and it would go away. at first i noticed that while using msn messenger, its volume control for voice chat controled the main volume for the whole pc. so if it was low things wouldnt sound as high as i wanted. no matter if i adjusted the main volume in the control panel, which was always set to highest, the volume would still be at the mercy of Msn M. so if it was lower than usual i would have to sign into msn m and adjust it. not only does this happen with msn m. it also happens with web video applications used by youtube, livevideo, etc etc! those arent usually the culprit of low sound. its usually just msn m. even now with live messenger i have the issue. im tired of being patient so here i am

anything else? sound card? the sound card came with the mobo. its a Realtek AC'97.

Hi everyone,I had the hard drive replaced recently in my G580 (Windows7) and everything is perfect except this one thing. I use the Volume: FN/down and FN/up a lot. It's very awkward that I can't see the volume setting any more. I know I can use the volume control in the tray but that is too slow to use in a live muic situation.btw the Fn/brightness also works but doesn't show the settings. Is this a setting that has gone awry that I can easily change?I've seen posts about the FN not working at all but nothing about it owrking but just not being visible. Thanks for any help.

Hello. Thanks in advance for anyone taking the time to read this.  I`m in a crux...

Here are my computer specs:
OS: Windows 7 64bit home premium (latest windows updates installed)
CPU: Intel i5 3570K (slightly oc`d to 43)
mobo: Asus p8z77-v Pro/thunderbolt
gpu: Asus HD 7850
sound card: none (using onboard realtek)
logitech mouse
cheap keyboard
speakers: logitech externally powered (two speakers 1 subwoofer - really cheap)

I put all the parts together myself and had the system running nice - before I moved.  At the time there were no problems with sound I also had a DAC connected via USB, so I was switching between headphones and speakers depending on the occassion.

Here`s where my prob started.  I recently moved.  I carried the pc by hand to ensure it didn`t get banged up or incur any excessive shock.  Aside from the slight bobbing motion of my walking I`d believe no harm was done to the machine.

I hooked it up at the new apartment, with the hdmi cable going from ati card to the TV.  The TV plays back the sound perfectly - running the sound through the speakers though the volume is nearly inaudible over the fan sound.  I tried to play sound through various software, youtube, windows media player, vlc, and others (ensuring their respective volume sliders were at full), but it`s still quiet.

When I hooked up the PC this second time the mouse and keyboard were most likely connected to different usb... Read more

Answer:Very quiet volume although all (?) volume controls are maxed.

As you say the sound over your TV is excellent, there is almost certainly nothing wrong with the performance of your on-board sound. Without seeing them, am I right in thinking that you take a lead from the audio out at the back of your computer to the speakers, and their internal amplifier drives the sound output ?  If so, and this may be very silly, is this lead plugged into the correct socket at the back of the computer ?

Failiing that, see if you can borrow some speakers from a friend, any speakers at all will do. This will enable you to determine if the problem is with your speakers or the sound output.

Hello everyone! I run Windows 8.1, and have been having a strange issue lately. A reformat and fresh install did nothing to help this.

Seemingly at random, in my volume mixer, specific programs will drop to 10% level. If I turn the volume all the way back up, it'll only go back down a bit later. I've tried this with / without my realtek drivers. Also, I've set the option under "Communications" in playback devices to "Do nothing", and this still hasn't helped. Any VoIP programs I use I've turned off ducking, and yet the problem still persists.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you!

Hello Guys,
this is my first post on eightforums,
i recently got a new laptop "asus vivobook" that came preloaded with windows 8.
The laptop comes with a hybrid 24 GB ssd (8GB of those are for the system files, windows 8 is installed on,the remaining are in a 2nd partition for recovery)
i deleted the recovery partition and made a recovery on an 8 GB usb drive, because im dual booting a different linux os alongside windows.
I used rEFInd boot manager to boot the 2 operating systems, everything boot and works fine.
However, since the dual booting started i noticed that the windows 8 loading time has became a bit slower, when i choose to sart windows 8 the asus logo appears and under it this message
"Scanning and repairing volume (\\?\Volume{...large hex identifier..}): 100% Complete"
it stays for 2,3 seconds and then windows 8 start,i ran a chkdsk for the c drive, but that didnt solve the problem.
Is there any way to fix this issue,
Thanks.

Answer:Scanning and repairing volume (\\?\Volume...) on startup

The problem you are seeing could be caused by the Win8 "fastboot" feature. Disable fastboot and see if that fixes the problem. It can occur on dual boot and other multi partition configurations.

The volume button became temperament to control volume. Sometime working, mostly not. should i manage to use button to turn up, id find within minutes it was back at zero volume. Also due to having to constantly turn phone up therefore due to this and also having to press button very hard, the components in and under button have broke. Love n need this phone (birthday pressie this year (April 2014) from my son, so my phone only 7 months old.

Answer:Is updating the volume button the only way to control the volume?

Unfortunately that's the only option available today. There are workarounds but they can only be used to get the job done, not quite a user friendly feature

Hello sevenforums,
I just received a new keyboard today: Thermaltake Challenger Ultimate. I went from a Logitech G15.

First thing I did was connect the keyboard and install the software that came along on the CD, it probably also installed the correct drivers. First after this did I uninstall the software and drivers from the old Logitech G15. But before that, and now after, the volume buttons on my new keyboard is still not adjusting the volume when I press them.

A speaker-icon like this shows up when I press the volume buttons, so its not that the keys are not working: (ignore the text behind it, its me writing an assignment)

Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be wrong?

I use W7's volume control for the studio monitors I use. It's not practical to use the knob on the monitors since it is located in the back.

The max volume (100%) in W7 is not loud enough while the minimum volume (0%) still makes sound when Id like it to be mute if it's at 0%

How can this be done?

I'm using a Logitech 35 headset on Windows 8.1 64-bit and all drivers are updated but when i want to adjust the volume, the volume mixer becomes unresponsive and stops working and my headset stops receiving sounds.

Answer:Volume mixer becomes unresponsive when I change volume

The G35 headsets I found, doing a search, are 7.1 surround sound headphones, USB connected and with a volume control in the headset cable. Is this what you have? If it is you should apparently be controlling the volume from the headset's volume control and not the PC???
