Speakers and headphones working at the same time

Question: Speakers and headphones working at the same time

Well, the title says it all. Using my RTM MSDN version that I got from work this mornin. Have all the latest updates. Not sure what to do.

I have my headphones plugged in but my speakers and headphones are playing my top wicked bad music.

Any ideas people? First time I have used Vista. Looked at all the usual suspects in control panel and volume controls etc.

Thanks

Hello, from a few days I've a problem with audio devices:  when I connect any headphones to the jack on the left side of the laptop, the sound keeps going out from the  speakers. So, I can hear from headphones and speakers in the same time.  I tried everything: update all drivers, uninstall and reinstall them, uninstal and reinstall DOLBY ADVANCED AUDIO v2 program (which is supposed to control audio on the pc), update IDT High Definition Audio CODEC (I think this is the sound card?). Nothing worked. I have two  devices available in "Audio" window:  "Speakers / headphones" and "Headphiones communications" (I'm translating from italian Windows OS). Selecting the first, speakers and headphones work simultaneously. Selecting the second, no sound comes, neither from speakers or headphones. I think I tried everything. What to do? I don't even know why this problem occurred!   Thanks for the help

Hello,Sorry if this is in the wrong place, as you can tell, I'm a newbie. Anyways, I'm having a bit of a problem with my headphones and speakers. It all started around a year ago. All of a sudden, my speakers stopped working, however, the headphones continued to work fine. Then, out of nowhere a few months later, my speakers magically began working again. Only problem is, my computer doesn't seem to recognize that I have headphones plugged in, so the speakers and headphones play sound at the same time. This is a major inconvenience because I like to listen to music and watch movies, but can't do so without disturbing others anymore. There might be something lodged in the headphone jack, as the headphones don't seem to go all the way in, but it still goes in enough to play sound through them. I've tried disabling the speakers themselves, but it blocks the sound from the headphones too.So basically what I'm asking is, is there some way I can 'fool' the computer into thinking I've got headphones plugged in so I don't have to run both at the same time? Or any other way to fix it that doesn't involve high-cost repairs? Any help here would be so greatly appreciated!ThanksEDIT: Forgot to mention, I'm using a Gateway NV79 laptop running on Windows 7. It's a little over a year old.

Hi, hope I'm posting in the right place.

I had a set of GE 2.1 speakers working well with my Sony Vaio for about a year. Recently the sound started to go in & out, I had to move the wire around a lot and tape it or hold it in a certain spot to get them to work. Then one day they stopped working altogether. Assuming it was the speakers, I went and bought a new set from Best Buy. Took them home, plugged them in... and nothing, nothing at all. So I tried the OLD speakers in another desktop computer, and they worked perfectly.

So I assumed my headphone jack was broken and was going to go about trying to get a new piece and solder it and all that, but then I'm sitting here and just realized my headphones work perfectly.

What's wrong? How come the headphones work, but 2 pairs of external speakers don't?

Thanks so much

Jillian

Hey i have a CMI 8738 PCI 6.1 sound card, and I also have a AC'97 onboard card (disabled at the moment).

Before i got my PCI card, I was able to use my AC'97 with a headset, (aud_out) a mic (mic_in) and a 2.1 sound system (aux_out). The beauty of this is that i can turn the speakers off (because they have a separate power source), and just use the headset when i need to be quiet. Or i can use the speakers when i'm listening and can be loud.

My mic port shorted out, so i got the new PCI sound card.

Now i'm wondering if I can do the same thing on the new sound card. I'm afraid to test it since I don't know the reason my old card shorted out.

I'm using Xear 3D sound with 3-D CMI Audio Controller.

I want to use both headphone and speaker at the same time. Like, the same audio comes from both of them. I want to use this so i can combine my speakers with the TV ( the one i use as monitor ) speakers to work as the 5.1 central speaker.
I googled it, and i only found results where the users wanted to get rid of that.

Thanks,
Alex.

Answer:How do i use both headphones and speakers at the same time?

If you are using HDMI for the TV, you can only have one default audio playback device. Either the HDMI output or your "speakers" (PC sound card) which would allow you to use headphones.

This comes up frequently and I don't recall any posted way to get around this.

I recently bought a new headset and desktop. I just tried out the headset and found it to be amazing, but I was wondering how I could get sound to go through both the headset and speakers on my speakers system. The desktop is in Windows 10, and it's a Lenovo, and I can provide the system information if needed, as well as any other information. Thank you for your time and responses.

I want to use my headphones for things such as firstperson shooters and my speakers for music. I'm using a Realtek AC97 Audio soundcard. It has Pink(microphone), Green(speaker), and Blue(I assume its for secondary audio output) colored ports in the back with nothing in the front. I've played around with the soundcard settings and the volume control in windows(just to make sure everything is unmuted and turned up all the way), but the blue port doesn't make any sound. Can anyone help me find out how to make this possible without buying a splitter for the working one?

Answer:How do I use speakers and headphones at the same time?

Onboard sound is both a blessing and a curse at the same time. Im assuming you are talking about the onboard chip on your board and not a pci card.
Mic - Audio in- and a line out. Its been a while - I think thas close.
I remember I had a ac97 compliant integrated chip a while back.
I didnt have much of a prob with it besides the cpu cycles it ate.
I think you will need some form of pci card (turtle beach or soundblaster) or a soundsystem that offers a port for your headphones with a seperate volume control otherwise your headphones will be blaring the same decibel as your main speakers and be blown apart in a few hours if you do not have an inline volume control on your headset. most models of logitech or klipsich speakers offer headset ports in the main volume control module - however there are much much cheaper options out there then those.

Hope this helps

I have a headphone jack on the front of my computer. Is there any way I can make it so that I can plug in something in the headphone jack and still have the speakers working?

The reason is I have two sets of speakers and I want to use them both (the second set behind me) and have like a quadratic speaker setup but I only have one speaker port.

I know I can use a Y-splitter on the speaker port but I don't have one and the stores are too far away so I don't feel like going right now. I was wondering if there was a setting on my computer that I could change to allow this.

Answer:Speakers AND Headphones At the Same Time

Nope, as soon as you plug into your headphone jack, it's going to disable your rear jacks. The only way I know of is using the "Y" cable you referred too.

Thanks!

I'm wondering if instead of buying a splitter, I can just have the headphone and speaker playing at the same time.

I have a stereo system that sounds better than the pc speakers, but the bass isn't as good as the pc speaker's subwoofer. All i want to do is be able to plug in the stereo system into the front headphone slot while having the pc speakers plugged into the back speaker slot and be able to play both at the same time.

What would be even better, but probably not possible, is if I could hook the pc speaker's subwoofer up to the stereo system but thats probably a lot of trouble..

Is there a way that I could make the 2 pc speakers and the 2 stereo system speakers be recognized by the computer as a 4 speaker system? again, probably impossible or too much trouble.

Answer:How can i play through headphones and speakers at the same time?

You plug the stereo system into the rear channel and the PC speakers to the front channel (or vice versa) - that's what i have set up and it works just fine.

You need to fiddle with your soundcard settings to get it to run in 4 speaker mode.

hi

Whenever i want to play music or watch a movie in a public place, ill put in some headphones. but right now, whenever i plug them in, i get sound from both my headphones and my laptop speakers. It used to switch automatically from speakers to headphones but it wont anymore.

I have Realtek HD Audio with Vista 64 bit.

Is there any way to get it back to the way it was?

Answer:Laptop speakers and Headphones at same time

Go to Control Panel - Sound - and explore all possible settings ("configure" and "properties").

I think the switch is a part of the connection, and something in the headphone jack is loose or broken, but it's worth looking for a setting. I didn't find any such setting on my Vista, but I have a different sound card.

Answer:Speakers and headphones playing at the same time

Hi Shabirah1997 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Step 1: You may try to set default initially to get back the previous settings. Similar steps on this article .
Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Playback tab > Set Default at the bottom > Apply

Step 2 oing a reset on command prompt :
Click on start and search for CMD , right click to run as administrator . type net stop AudioSrv
then  net start AudioSrv

Step 3 : Jumping back to previous working date with System Restore

Step 4: Rollback / Uninstall and Reinstall audio drivers from D:/Lenovo /Drivers folder or download from support site.

See which one works for you best.

not realy unless you're prepared to modify the headset plug.

the plug on the computer has a switch that operates when the headphone jack

My Laptop speakers and earphones are playing at the same time and I've been having this problem since yesterday. This has been giving me headaches just from pure rage because every single "solution" I found online doesn't work for me

I've been told to check playback devices and set headsets as default playback device but it doesn't even show the headset option

Plus, I've reinstall my drivers and they are up to date!

and On the internet I've also found a thread where they told me to check the Analog Cog settings on realtek but there isn't even an option to do it. The analog device buttons are un-clickable.

Even in the advanced settings on realtek there's nothing but "recording device" settings.

Answer:Why are the speakers and headphones playing at the same time?

Check for a setting in the audio. Many, have an audio configuration panel and an option to mute the speakers when the headphone is connected or not.

I don't have IDT so I can't say exactly where that is at.

Another option, if it worked yesterday and not today, use the System Restore and restore the PC back to an available restore date when it did work correctly. (System restore will not delete any user data). System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools.

So, my problem is that both the speakers and the headphones play in my HP laptop at the same time.

When I go into my playback devices I have three options:

1. ATI HDMI Output
2. Speakers and headphones (same device)
3. headphones

When my headphones are connected the third still shows them as unconnected but sound will play through both the speakers and the headphones.

I am wondering if there's any way that I can fix this so that I can have sound play out of just one or the other.

I have tried the following things:

-system restore
-updating my sound drivers

Thanks for any future help.

Answer:Headphones and speakers play at the same time

With no system specs specified we can't say exactly. But, in newer HD audio sound systems they autodetect when something is plugged in. If you have one of these devices it is either the driver or there is a hardware problem with the sound chip.

Hi I have got a windows 8 64 bit laptop and just the past couple of days iv had this problem when I plug my headphones in I am still hearing sound coming from my laptop speakers and from my headphones at the same time. At first I thought this was a problem with my headphones so I decided to try different ones but I still had the same problem ( and yes the headphones are fully plugged in). This is clearly a problem with my laptop and not my headphones. I have been to the control panel and tried changing settings with my sound but NOTHING SEEMS TO BE WORKING!. I have also tried doing a system restore but that didn't help either . It would be much appreciated if anyone could help me solve this problem as it is really annoying!. Thanks in advance

What sound do you have? e.g. Realtek, Conexant, etc?

Realtek has an HD Control Panel and there is an option to mute the speakers when a headset is connected or as yours is doing not mute the speakers. I don't have anything except Realtek but I know some of the other sound hardware's have similar settings.

The Realtek is located in Control Panel/Hardware and Sound.

I'm new to this forum, but I've been having a problem for a while now.

Whenever I unplug my headphones, my computer has absolutely no sound.

When I do plug in my headphones, the headphones AND speakers turn on.

The speakers are built into my monitor, plus they're playing with the headphones plugged in, so there definitely isn't anything wrong with them.

I've tried messing around with Realtek and just a simple restart/shut down, and nothing has happened.

The problem is that the internal speakers still play and the headphones don't show up on my devices menu or in the Realtek HD Audio Manager. Does someone know anything about how to fix this? Help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Headphones and speakers playing at the same time

It would appear from your description that you have a mechanical fault with the headphone jack. When you insert the plug into the socket there is a contact that is switched telling the system that something has been inserted into the socket - this signal is used to switch off the speakers.

As this is a laptop it is probably beyond most PC users to make a repair, although this is possible, I would suggest you contact your local PC repair outfit who will normally be able to replace the socket for a reasonable cost

Hello....

When I plug in my headphones, my speakers just keep on playing(although the headphones also play the audio). The headphones won't show up under audio devices, and I've tried two different sets of headphones.

Does anyone know how to stop this? It was working fine yesterday....

I use Windows 7.

Answer:Headphones and speakers playing at the same time?

Hello OctoberOwl and welcome to Seven Forums.

Since everything was working fine yesterday I'd try using system restore to return my computer to a date/time prior to when the audio problem first started.

System Restore

If system restore doesn't help you might have to go into control panel > sounds to see what your default settings are. There are several previous forum threads that provide possible solutions. For example:

Speakers and headphones play at the same time?

Selecting headphones or speakers as default

And a couple of threads from the Microsoft Answers forum:

Hi there
This sometimed happens with Realtek HD sound cards when the sound card is integrated into the Mobo.

Download and re-install the driver AND HD audio application.

(even if your sound card is not a REALTEK one I'd still re-install the driver (from the MOBO driver set / sound card CD) AND THE APPLICATION -- most of the sound card driver software usually has an application as well (such as a mixer. graphic equalizer etc).

Hello,
I'll try to explain this as best as I can. I have a Compaq 8510w Workstation Laptop, and I am trying to get the internal Laptop speakers and some external speakers to work and both make sound at the same time. I have a secondary monitor that has speakers, and it's speakers connect through the headphone jack. So I would like to use the secondary monitor's external speakers, but I would also like the internal speakers in the laptop to work as well, to kinda make some version of surround sound, and just to generally boost the volume of my system. Is there a hardware or software change that I can make to make this work? I have a microphone and headphone jack in the front of the laptop, and in the back I have a green and blue jack. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if you need more information I"d be more than happy to help in any way, thank you,

Answer:Would like for BOTH Headphones and Internal Speakers to work at same time

Is there a way to tell if this is the cause of the problem? I don't know what else my options are, but I find it weird that there isn't some kind of work around or registry change that can be made. Thank you once again for any help,

I have a HP Pavilion g6, Win10. Today the sound on my laptop started playing from the speakers and headphones at the same time. A quick google tells me this is a known and stubborn problem for some HP users. None of the advice worked for me so I tried the option of unisntalling and reinstalling the sound drivers. Looking at the 'Sound' tab of the cotrol panel in Playback there was a device, IDT High Definition Audio, which said it wasn't working. Looking at the control panel I had two options for which sound driver to uninstall- AMD HD Audio Device, or IDT High Definition Audio. Given the fact that IDT Audtio was apprently not working, I chose to unisntall that one. I unchecked the box saying to remove all drivers.  Apparently this was the wrong thing to do, but the instructions made no mention of this. I then searched for and downloaded the IDT High Def Audio driver, restarted my computer and... No sound, and no way of reinstalling the driver. In device manager if I scan for hardware changes it comes up with nothing. If I try all the options to reinstall the sound driver, and even specify the folder where I downloaded the IDT High Def driver, it tells me my sound driver is already up to date. In the Sound tab of the Control Panal, in Playback, I now only have one thing - "Digital Display Audio" - and that's with it showing disabled devices too. Help! Thanks.

Answer:Sound from speakers and headphones at same time, uninstalled...

#HPExpertDayThis is  driver and setting conflict issue. Windows would have tried updating the drivers and someother program might be overiting it. You will have to uninstall and reinstall the drivers and software for Audio.

In the Windows audio playback tab there's only "speakers" but sound is playing from both speakers and the headphones, with headphones plugged into the right jack. I checked the Realtek Control Panel and there was F**K ALL for options there (see attached). There is an Intel(R) Display Audio in Device Manager alongside Realtek High Definition Audio. So now I can't watch warm-up videos at school without blasting the sounds through my speakers as well.

I tried a System Restore to before the problem started but it didn't do anything. The problem started around the time I ran an Advanced Systemcare 8 scan, which does the following tasks:
Spyware Removal
Registry Fix
Privacy Sweep
Junk Files Clean
Internet Boost
Shortcuts Fix
Registry Defrag
System Optimization
Security Defense
Disk Scan
Vulnerability Fix (Windows Updates)
Disk Optimization
Also when I move my laptop it shuts off for some reason, so it could've interupted the scan or updates or something.

I use a bluetooth speaker (Tendqa) as well as a pair of wired headphones on my computer (XP). Until yesterday, I could get audio output on both simultaneously (I know for sure because many times I forgot that the speakers were on and I'd start playing a game and the sounds were broadcast through the speakers and I didn't realize it right away because I had the headset on).

Anyway, as of this morning, it's an either/or thing with music (played via Pandora or WMP). I can get system sounds through the headset (such as the audio demo through Realtek) but no music while the bluetooth speakers are connected.

The only thing I can think that I did in the interim is install Adobe Acrobat Reader X. But I restored my computer to yesterday's settings (before the Reader install) and it didn't solve the problem. I even checked my windows registry to make sure none of the Reader X registry entries were there. Nada.

Can anyone think of anything else I can try?

As per the title, my speakers and headphones have started playing sound at the same time. Under "playback devices", "speakers and headphones" appear as one (I don't know if they're supposed to be separate?) and are set as the "default device". I've had this problem for nearly a month and I absolutely need a solution. I've searched through the forum, but have been unable to find an answer. Any help would be much appreciated!
I've tried three different headphones and they all have the same problem - sound plays from the speakers at the same time.
Disabling and enabling the audio driver didn't do anything.
Uninstalling and reinstalling the audio driver didn't do anything.
I tried system restore, but I went away over the holiday period and it's possible the last restore point I could use was, in fact, after the problem occurred.
Windows refresh didn't do anything.
The Windows tutorial didn't do anything - the sound processor is working, the cable is connected, the volume is up, the troubleshooter didn't find any problems, the driver is up-to-date.
Stopping and starting audio service, Windows audio and Windows audio endpoint builder in services.msc didn't do anything. Their start-up types are all set to automatic.
I understand KB2962407 has caused sound problems for people. My laptop hadn't downloaded the update. I tried downloading it to see if this would fix the problem but it did not and I have deleted it again.
Update: I've also updated BIOS. &quo... Read more

Answer:Speakers and headphones playing at the same time - HP Pavilion G6 Windows 8.1

From the service manual
Produces sound when connected to optional powered
stereo speakers, headphones, earbuds, a headset, or
television audio
WARNING! To reduce the risk of personal injury, adjust
the volume before putting on headphones, earbuds, or a
headset. For additional safety information, refer to the
Regulatory, Safety and Environmental Notices.
NOTE: When a device is connected to the jack, the
computer speakers are disabled.
This means the socket is faulty as it is supposed to cutout the speakers by a mechanism inside the socket itself. (My daughters phone as the opposite problem - no sound at all unless headphone plugged in.)
to replace the socket means wiring stripping the laptop and soldering on a new socket.

Hi there, As the subject line reads I am hoping to enable playback through both the headphone and internal speakers on the E93z All in One unit I have. Is there is currently a way to do this with the Lenovo HD Audio software for the Realtek system? It detects the headphones and does the typical shut off of the internal speakers however no option to enable playback through both seems to exist. Running Windows 7 Pro 32 bit. I cannot enable stereo mix (by right clicking in the playback area of the sound settings in Windows) to try and come up with a work around. I have tried re-installing the drivers and not luck with more options to do this.I have tried un-installing the Lenovo HD audio software and still no luck using the vanilla Windows 7 software. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Satallite L500. I am having problems with my sound.
When I insert my jacks for the headphones and play something, sound comes out of both the headphones as well as the laptop speakers.
I want to turn off the laptop speakers but still receive sound from the headphones.
There is a horrible "echo" when both headphones and speakers are on at the same time. I am new to Vista and for the life of I can't figure out what's going on.

When I first got the laptop everything worked fine. I then bought some speakers for those times I wanted to listen to external speakers.
I would unplug the headphone jacks and plug in the speaker jack.
Ever since doing this, whenever I plug in the headphones the laptop speakers are also playing.

Also, when I first got the laptop whenever I would plug in the headphone jacks, a message would pop up on the screen indicating that the microphone and audio jacks were detected. I no longer get this message.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanx

Answer:Satellite L500: headphones and speakers play at the same time

hi tango123,
i think some sort of "confusion" is in the registry.
just deinstall the sounddriver
after that reboot and reinstall (look for the current driver at toshibas driver downloadsite)
make sure you use a stereo jack!

for the echo issue try to mute the mic to test.

New T530Speakers and Headphones were working fine. I have installed some codecs for VLC (don't think this would affect things) The speakers stopped working, but if you press your ear to the machine, you can hear some tiny clicks / pops when you try to play audio/video (itunes, VLC etc.) Checked Drivers, Sound Mixer, etc. All say the sound is on full.Volume Control Options show Speaker/HP 'realtek High Definition Audio' I tried updating the Sound Drivers. I rolled back the drivers, I unistalled the drivers.Downloaded the drivers from Lenovo, tried Microsoft. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

Answer:T530 Speakers have stopped working, headphones still working, tiny small popping / clicking

Not really sure about this, but it sounds like the audio port's mechanical shunt is stuck or broken off.  That is an age old way of turning off speakers when a headphone or external speaker jack is inserted.  The jack pushes a small metal shunt over that opens the internal speakers' circuit.  When the jack is withdrawn, that small shunt is supposed to return to the original position that lets internal speakers function again. If that shunt is stuck or broken, the internal speakers could remain blocked after an external jack is removed. This is not a new problem, but it is not a common problem. http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/No-sound-from-internal-speakers-only-from-h...

Hi there,

I use Windows Vista, 32-bit.

Yesterday the speakers on my Dell laptop stopped working. I tried restarting the computer, no change. Tried plugging in headphones, and here's the weird part:

Sound works FINE on headphones, but doesn't come out of speakers. I went through the control panel to sound (Conrol/Hardware and Sound/ Sound) and tried to fiddle around with things, but that didn't help at all.

Advice?

Thanks,

Hey @sheba005,  Thanks for posting in the HP Support Forum.  I see that your HP Pavilion g6-1235so Notebook PC's speakers are no longer working since upgrading to Windows 10. I would like to assist. I have some suggestions that might help.  What's most likely causing the issue is the fact that there are no HP-tested Windows 10 drivers for your PC. Having said that, it's worth running through the recommended steps in the following troubleshooting guide: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-g6-1200-Notebook-PC-series/5145704/model/5186697/doc... Let me know if this restores sound to your speakers. If I have helped you resolve the issue and you liked this post, feel free to give me virtual props by clicking on the 'Thumbs Up' icon below and clicking 'Solved' (this will help others find the solution). Thanks for reaching out.  Have a great day!

Hi.I have my headphones connected to my front panel audio(but from my front panel, there are 2 white cables that are connected to the back of my motherboard,i called someone to do this for me,and he said that my case is not original, and he cant connect the pins to the motherboard, because in my motherboard manual its different pins and my case its not original) http://i.imgur.com/BQCD8qq.jpg
And as you see its speakers,i want to be headphones, but i dont know how to change it,i have my latest drivers. Can you help me ? I can listen to music, but i use the headphones to listen to Binaural beats and i dont want the sound to be distorted by the speakers.Actually i dont even now if the speakers as output distorted the sound, but i think it will be better if its set to headphones.

Answer:Headphones working as speakers

If the case does not the required "HD Audio" connector for the front panel headset/mic connections, you can buy a separate I/O panel that will have the correct connections. That may be your best option.

Here is one example. Amazon.com: Jmt Desktop Computer Host Case Front I/o Panel USB 2.0 Audio Mic Headphone 3.5mm Plug Pc Cable Cord: Computers & Accessories

My laptop's speakers aren't working at all, and when my headphones are plugged in only the right side works. The only way I can hear out of both sides of them is if I pull the jack halfway out, like you would with faulty headphones. But there's nothing wrong with the headphones and I've tried various different ones. The speakers themselves aren't working at all despite the settings telling me they are. And yes, I've tried turning it on and off and looking for updates but nothing seems to be working.
Please help!

Hi to all..

I have been bugged down by this problem. Whenever I plug in the microphone in the jack the speakers stop. Same is the case if I use headphones.

I can't figure out if the problem is with the sound card or the with any drivers or is it something else.

I have updated the sound driver.
Checked that all nothing is muted and the volume is full.

The headphone speakers and mic work well when used on another computer, so no problem with them.

The Control Panel>Hardware and Sound> Sound> Manage> Audio Devices shows speakers and headphones both as well as the microphone. But if headphones is selected again i get no sound. Microphone doesnt work in any case.

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium.
The sound driver is High Definition Audio Device and its version is 6.1.7600.16385.

It's really frustrating because I cant voice chat with friends.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx in advance.

Hi all,

I recently bought a pair of Sennheiser HD555 which work great, the only thing is that if I want to use them I have to disconnect my speakers (Logitech Z-2300) from the sound card (Xtremegamer) and plug the headphones into the same socket.

As my speakers are 2.1 they connect to the sound card via one cable. It appears they only work in this one particaler socket as does the headphones. I assume the others are for 5.1 and 7.1 setups.

The speakers came with a little controller for volume and power, but it also has a socket for headphones but when I tried that it didn't make a difference. My keyboard (Tarantula) also has a socket for headphones which doesn't seem to work either. Even the front of my case (P182) has a socket but not joy.

In the settings for the speakers in control panel I clicked automatically detect headphones and mute speakers on detection. I have no idea why it wont work.

Any suggestions? Its a pain in the *** having to reach the back of the pc and disconnect the speakers and plug in the headphones each time

Thanks in advance!

I tried that for what must have been over 500 times and I finally stopped when my fingers couldnt take it. Anyone have any ideas? Before building a new PC, I had a simple solution in having headphones (with a MIC)and my speakers working at the same time. I put a 2-1 splitter in the back of my machine, and had the speakers/headphones running off one connection.

Now, I have built a fancy new system, which has headphone (+ MIC) jacks at the front of the case (which I connected onto the motherboard via the Digital Audio Connector). So now I only have my speakers connected in the rear, and have plugged in the headphones into the front of the case.

My problem is that I have not been able to configure RealTek (using the latest 2.53) software that when I speak to someone in Skype, so that I can hear them both on speakers and the headphones at the same time. It has to be either hearing the other party via speakers or headphones.

In the advanced settings of RealTek, I have selected:

(*) Make Front and Rear output devices play back different audio streams simultaneously.

Since I always have the headphones plugged in, unless I take them out every time, my speakers would be muted unless I selected the option above.

Am I missing something? Any advise is appreciated!

Answer:Can I have speakers & headphones both working in Win 7 + RealTek?

Wow - never thought that no one knows how or possibly, is there no solution for this?

Hello! I'm having an issue with the sound on my computer. I have an emachine that runs Vista, but I don't know the specs.

I installed updates on it this morning, and since then I haven't been able to play any sounds through my speakers or through headphones.
When I check my sound devices, it says "Line 1, Live! Cam Virtual, Working", which to me is odd because my webcam certainly doesn't play sound, and it isn't even plugged in.
The only other device listed says "NVIDIA HDMI Output, NVIDIA HDMI Audio, Not plugged in" and I think those are my speakers, and if so they actually are plugged in.

I have checked to make sure nothing is muted, my speakers are on and plugged in, I did unplug and replug a few times, I restarted, etc, and still nothing.

Here's a screen cap:

Thanks a lot :)

If you had sound before the update and don't now, then roll back the driver. Start-> (right click) My Computer -> Manage; select device manager and go to your audio driver and under Driver tab select "Roll Back."

Something weird is happening.
I was away from home 14 days, and I just came back. I started some music in youtube from my desktop and the speakers sounds weird now, for no reason at all. I really doubt my son touched my computer, but still. Tried checking the configurations I dont see anything wrong, so I thought that maybe the speakers were damaged. So I went to my laptop and I connect my USB headphones and I hear music with no vocals or very very low vocals, so I just try playing with the settings now I can hear vocals and music but weird. So I tried uninstalling the driver and installing again, and I get the same result.

I don't really know if its coincidence but it's really weird. I'm more worried about my headphones since are almost new (Genius hs-04U).

THANKS A LOT

EDIT: Tried with another regular normal headphones and they are working fine. But what about these expensive hardwares? No guarantee...

EDIT: Speakers were half disconnected from the bass, amazing how I didn't checked that before LMAO :$... But no luck with the heapdhones.

I see that this is a pretty popular question on this forum by searching, but none of those methods are really working for me.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 that I think I have a SigmaTel Audio system (I'm not the best with computers, but I think it does). I use Microsoft XP.

This problem started a few months ago when I had my computer plugged into a TV through both VGA and headphone jack. Somehow the headphone male part got bent when it was in and when I unplugged it the internal speakers no longer worked, but headphones and external speakers work fine. I've searched the internet for a while for ways to fix it over the last month or so, but couldn't find anything that actually worked. This wouldn't really be a problem, but I move my laptop around a lot and live in a college dorm room and it's tough to have speakers constantly set up and connected to my laptop.

I've read a little about problems like this and it appears that I probably hit something inside the headphone jack when the plug bent that makes the computer think headphones are always plugged in (just a guess). I've tried plugging and unplugging my headphones really fast like a million times and it hasn't worked. I've reinstalled the sound drivers, reset the computer, etc. I'm kind of out of ideas. I think I may have to open up the computer, which I really don't want to do (I've done it before to install RAM and stuff, but I'm not great at it), but if t... Read more

Hello-hello,
I have a problem- actually for a long time, that something is really wrong with my speakers or headphones settings... or there is some problem with driver.
So the thing is I'm unable to get any sound from any media player or youtube only from headphones. If I'm in Skype, everything is okay and I can hear people only from headphones. From media players- if I plug the headphones, the music is also coming from speakers. I have tried to turn on and off the speakers, tried to disable speakers manually in settings, but nothing helps.
Also I have tried with different headphones, but the problem is same. Tried to restore my PC to previous state when everything was okay, but didn't help.
In case you need some specifications: the driver is IDT High Definition Audio CODEC, version:6.10.6319.0
The PC is HP PAvilion g6 with windows 7 and CPU is AMD A4-3300M APU with Radeon HD Graphics, 1,90 GHz
Hopefully you understand the problem and my little bit bad English,
Thank you,

Whenever I turn on my computer speakers (an ordinary pair of cheap speakers that that connects to a regular audio jack in the back on my computer and is powered via a USB port) and play any media containing audio on my computer, no sound comes out of them. It doesn't matter whether or not the headphones (which plug into a speaker jack in the front of my computer) are unplugged or not. This is a new problem that I noticed for the first time yesterday.

I went to the Sound settings in my Control Panel, and selected the "Test" option for my speakers several times. The speakers clearly worked each and every time. But they still wouldn't work when I played media. I then set the speakers as my default audio device, and then they started working perfectly when I played media. But then my headphones wouldn't work, even when I turned the speakers off. They worked when I used the Test option, but no other audio would play through them.

So apparently, either my headphones or my speakers will work, depending on which one I set as my default audio device. But whichever one is not set as default will not work (except for the sounds generated by the Test option).

Does anyone know what causes this problem and how to fix it?

Answer:Speakers not working, despite headphones being unplugged.

Has this ever worked properly? or is this a problem that recently happened?

Please post a screen shot of the Sound Playback Panel and the Device Manager, Sound section.

What I should do to correct this?

When I insert headphones, I want to heard the sound only on it's, no speakers on that moment, and when I unplug headphones, the sound should be return on speakers?

Please help...

Answer:Qosmio F50-108: speakers still working even headphones are connected

Hi

You should check the settings in Control panel -> Realtek sound manager
The speaker tab contains some options on the right.
There should be a Analog port and Digital port.

Make a right or left click on the headphone jack and check if the option has been disabled which enables the speaker sound while headphones are connected.

Pretty basic questions from me to start with....Have you got the volume on your speakers turned up?

Are you sure your speakers are plugged into the right port? More details of your system would help, but until then, this may assist you.

Hi everyone! A couple of days ago I took my yoga to work and was using my headphones and since then I cannot get the speakers to work. I can still use my headphones and the sound works just fine. I had a similar issue once before, but with the microphone, not the speakers but managed to fix that myself. I updated the drivers and rebooted my laptop. When I go on playback devices the speakers are active and supposedly working (e.g. when I have music playing in the background it shows it moving on the bars, but I cannot hear anything). I also ran the Windows Audio Troubleshooter which did not help. I also had a system update two days ago, but the speakers were not working prior to that. I doubt that it is a hardware problem, considering that the speakers were working fine just before I plugged my headphones in. Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this?  Thank you in advance!

Hi all, I'm having some audio issues with my brand new OMEN 17. In the middle of listening to some music on youtube, the sound slowly starting getting lower and lower. 10-15 seconds later I could barely hear anything. When I put headphones in, there is no issue with the sound. I went through all the troubleshooting, did diagnostics, re-installed the drivers from within the recovery manager, and also downloaded and installed the latest from the HP site. The issue keeps re-occuring. I'll restart the laptop and the sound will be fine for a couple of minutes. Then it starts getting quieter and then gone. (even if I close Chrome and re-open, I'll get normal sound volume for about 10 seconds before it goes)Ive tried different websites, video games, etc. Same for all. Any idea what this might be? Faulty speakers? The machine is 2 days old.... One thing that's interesting is that after the sound is gone, if I click to go forward on a song, I'll hear the sound at a regular volume for about 0.2 of a second. Just a brief sound spike before it goes quiet. Would appreciate any help.

Hello,I have lenovo laptop Y400 w/ Windows 8.1 64 bit installed. I was wondering if I could somehow modify my audio setting so that I might be able to do any or both of:I want to plug in a headphone and use both the headphone and built in speakers at the same time to play the same thing. For example when I'm playing games I want a loud game sound from the built in speakers but I also want to use the headphones to know from where the sound comes. This is usually the case when I am playing seriously.I want to plug in a headphone and use the headphone and built in speakers at the same time but for seperate applications/uses. For example, I want to play a game and listen to the game's sound from the headphone AND listen to some music from the background (as from the built in speakers), both at the same time. This is usually the case when I am chilling.I know it's a silly thing to ask for but it would really help me as I won't only use it for gaming but also for editing which would save me much time.Thank you! A few screenshots I thought might help:Spoiler (Highlight to read)Spoiler (Highlight to read) Spoiler (Highlight to read) Spoiler (Highlight to read)

Hi, I am facing a problem with a Thinkpad T440, there is no sound! it is looking like the speakers are not working, but when i plug in the headphones the sound come through the headphones. I upgraded the drivers, tried to reinstall the OS but unfortunately nothing helps. Thus, i disassembled the laptop and tried to figure out where the problem is? i find out that the speakers are working! I tried other speakers and the same thing happening > no sound I tried to plug/unplug the headphones jack connector many times but without success the headphone jack is apparently good at first sight! Did anyone face the same issue that i am having? Thanks in advance for help

So, the title says it all. The speakers of my Acer Predator 15 (Predator G9-591) are not working and taking a look at the HD Audio Manager says that the headphones jack is plugged in, even though there is nothing plugged in. I already used high pressure air cleaner, but that didn't work. I still think there is something wrong with the port.

I re-installed my drivers (based on the drivers from the Acer site), so I have no idea what else to do.

I'm running Windows 10.

Whenever i remove my headphones, the built in speaker stops working! i dont think its a problem with the contacts of the jack, because i shone a light in there, and nothing is touching.

When i restart Windows Audio, it goes back to normal. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am running windows 7 by the way.

Hi, I recently bought an Inspiron 17-7778 and have already found a problem. I use a pair of Razer Tiamat Headphones, which is also a headset. When I originally plugged in the mic cord, (Note: There is only one audio jack) the computer asked me what the cord was. I said that it was a microphone and that was that. The only problem is that not only does the mic not work, but when I plug in the audio jack, It doesn't recognize the audio or the mic jacks being plugged in, even though it tells me that I plugged something in. I've looked through a couple other similar forum posts and all of the answers suggest using different headphones, but that isn't an option for me because this headset was not cheap. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Headphones not working, but Speakers are and the Microphone doesn't work.

Redtrumpet12the mic not work
Hello. If you headset has 2 separate plugs -- one for the headphones and the other for the mic -- then the mic will not work when plugged into a Dell laptop with a single headset jack (aka a combo jack).
Your headset's plugs are of the TRS type (tip/ring/sleeve, or 3 segments). The combo jack will work with headphones with a TRS plug, but will not work with a mic with a TRS plug. The mic would have to have a TRRS (4 segment) plug, in order to work.
Amazon sells some TRS-to-TRRS adapaters, but we have received mixed reports about them. Sometimes they work but very often do not.
Another alternative is to get an inexpensive usb audio jack, and use its jacks instead of the laptop's combo jack.

As I said, the headphones of the headset should work okay with the combo jack. If you are not getting audio through the headphones, try a different set of headphones. If still no luck, re-install the audio driver.
1.    Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2.    Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" category.3.    Right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".4.    Click "uninstall".5.    Do not check the box to “delete the driver software for this device”. 6.    Restart the computer. Windows will detect your device and re-install the driver. The driver... Read more

Hello support forum,

I lost sound in speakers suddenly. I checked sound drivers, sound controls and everything. It looked working, but i could not hear the sound, but when i plugged in headphones, to my surprise, i could hear the sound.

Please suggest me, what might be problem behind this. Is it a hardware problem or software problem and how to come out of this.

Thanks for your help in advance,
Regards,
kiran

Answer:SA50-532: Lost sound in speakers, but working with headphones

Hello Kiran

Not easy to say but I believe that there is some hardware problem. Whole settings in volume control have influence on speakers and headphones. If the headphones works perfect I assume that there is some problem with speakers.

Your unit is not old one and the warranty should be still valid. Contact service partner in your country and let them check the unit.

My internal labtop speakers don't get recognized and so are my headphones. i have a microphone(blue yeti) wich chan be used as a output, and it is the only one that works. I cheked the output in the device manager and the only thing i was able to see there was the microphone. If i unplut the microphone i receive the error:"no audio output installed"

I tried to install some drivers, nothing worked. My headphones don't work and neither do my labtop internal speakers. I really hope someone can help me with this problem

Ok guys this problem happened last march/april ish and I tried a number of things at the time to fix the issue but with no luck. I just got done working out of state for the summer and did not have my pc with me so I'm trying to have another go at fixing the problem. Summary of the issue- no problems ever with sound until one day it just stopped working. Both headphones and speakers wouldn't work even if they were plugged in. I wasn't getting any "no audio devices detected" kinds of errors or anything like that. So I tried reinstalling the realtek HD audio drivers (i was just using onboard sound at the time) and no luck. I also tried doing a few system restores to before the issue and that didn't do anything either. Finally I bought a pci-e sound card, a sounblaster cause thats all the local best buy had, installed that and still no luck with either speakers or headphones. Today I tried removing the sound card and using on board audio and still no luck. Audio device manager will recognize that I plug in my headphones into either the front speaker jack or the one on the back but just doesn't produce sound. I even opened up the pc and looked at the connections on the mobo to make sure the ones for audio hadn't come lose and that doesn't seem to be the issue either. Please any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance

Answer:sound stopped working completely, headphones and speakers

Post a screenshot of the Device Manager, Sound section, for starters. I'll try to help you.

Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums

When you had the SoundBlaster installed, you need to disable the integrated (Realtek) audio so there are no conflicts. Also, you would need to disconnect the front panel headset/mic connection to the motherboard and connect it to the SoundBlaster to have the front panel jacks work. The SoundBlaster would have needed to be set as the default playback device, instead of Realtek if it was still enabled.

I've had this problem for a few weeks now and haven't been able to solve it. When I play audio from any source, the sound is distorted and fuzzy. Sometimes when I restart the laptop then the audio plays as normal for a while, until I pause a video or load a new page and then the problem starts again. However, even when this happens, the audio is still perfectly fine if I play it through headphones.I have seen that there have been a few audio problems with notebooks and I've followed the recommended steps and installed the updated audio drivers but nothing has worked so far.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi all,
Probably a usual post, but can't seem to find the answer anywhere! I have got a Tecra M5 running on Windows 7 and the sound was working perfectly until recently I linked up my laptop to my tv and connected an audio jack to transfer sound to the tv so I could stream a football game.

After I had finished and un plugged the cables, the sound refuses to play through the laptop speakers, but when i plug in headphones, the sound comes out fine. I have tried unistalling and reinstalling the sound driver but to no avail.

Can someone please help resolve this issue?

Many thanks,

Sunny nagra

Answer:Re: Sound not working through Tecra M5 speakers but work through headphones

I hope you must be clear that on this virtual way we can just speculate what the problem can be.
My first thought was that maybe small switcher placed in audio line out jack is pinched or blocked somehow and your notebook ?thinks? external audio jack is connected all the time.

What you can do is to check all sound settings and be sure everything is set to ?default? settings.

Ive had my HP folio 13 Ultra book for a while now. I'm running on Windows 7 Home premium (64)
But a few days ago I found out the sund was not working. And for some reason the sound is working perfectly on my beats headphones
I have 2 Sound devices: IDT High Def CODEC (speakers and Headphones) and Communications headphones (IDT high def CODEC)
For Example: When you press the sound icon and you test the sound the green sound bar comes up but nothing comes out of the speakers.
Ive done the following: Trouble shooted, it found nothing , the sound is defiately on and ive tried updating the drive but its the latest. I really do not know why it is playing up.
Alright whats weird is it says it is working properly in the advanced settings?????!!!
Also when i play a song on itunes the green bar will go up and down like usual but the sound does not come out of the damn speakers. To make it more weird when I enable the Communications headphones and test them the sound comes out of the speakers and cuts out (since it is a test).i've phoned a friend of mine and he said that maybe the sound is stuck or locked on the headphones. He also thought that maybe the computer is computer is mixed up or confused with which audio device is what.
I have some pics in the microsoft word attachment
All help ppreciated!

Hi there guys, first post here so please do mind I'm a newbie

So I've got an ASUS ROG G551JK laptop for almost 2 years already. Never had this problem before.

While I was playing CS:GO I tried to tweak the sound quality a little bit from the Realtek HD Audio Manager. The game was running and minimalized. The default sound quality was 24 bits, 48000 Hz (Studio Quality). I changed it to 24 bits, 192000 Hz and the headphones stopped working. At least while they are plugged in the laptop. I tried them with two different devices and they work just fine. So the problem is not in them for sure. Note that the build in speakers work just fine, so the sound card is ok...I think...or I hope so...

Immediately I quit CS:GO and tried to fix the problem by reinstalling the drivers of the sound card. I deleted the Realtek HD Audio Manager and reinstalled it again. Doesn't work. I deleted it again and left only the default drivers that Windows installs to run, doesn't help either. I installed previous versions of the Realtek HD Audio Manager, but didn't help. I even restored the whole Windows... without effect. I tried putting the Headphones as a default device, and it didn't work either. Updated the DirectX 12 to the latest possible version, didn't work. I spent at least 4 hours by searching all kinds of forums and threads and tried everything possible, again without any effects.

Answer:Headphones stopped working without reason, but speakers work perfectly

Open Device Manager, remove driver and device for your sound chipset, open up System in Control Panel, Click on Advanced System Settings to open System Properties, Click on Hardware tab, click on Device installation settings, change to no to not allow Windows to automatically install driver and device when you reboot, click ok, reboot, log in, install the correct driver for that device off of a USB stick by running the .exe file for it. Then reboot and everything should be back to normal.

It's as if it doesn't detect the headphones. It says my Realtek audio driver is up-to-date. When I go to manage audio devices, there's only one device listed called "Speakers / Headphones", so I don't know if when I plug my headphones in it's supposed to detect it separately. I've tried multiple headphones, all of which work with other devices. Also, there are two drivers listed under "sound, video, and game controllers". One is Realtek Audio and the other is Intel(R) Display Audio. Should I reinstall them both? This is a new laptop that I got to replace my old laptop which had (different) sound problems, so I'm very frustrated and at my wit's end, help is appreciated, thank you.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15: Headphones not working, sound comes through speakers when plugged in

First, make sure the headphone cable is fully inserted...
Then you show get a popup to allow you to select the device if you are using a Combined Audio Port.
If you aren't getting the popup, check the task manager to see if on the Startup Tab a Waves MaxxAudio entry is set to enabled.
If you look at the processes tab you should have two entries for Waves, one blue square and one green circle.

I'm really baffled here as to what's going on with my laptop audio. It was working just a few days ago from what I remember and now tonight when I was playing a game in Steam the audio just wasn't working. Checked audio settings in the game, all was good. Turned the game off and started testing using YouTube, still nothing. The volume is definitely up and I found that headphones work fine. When I open the 'Playback devices' dialogue from right clicking the speaker in the task bar it shows the green equalizer bar moving up and down if something is playing, but there's no audio. I've checked for any conflicting devices in here and ensured everything was enabled as per usual.

So far I've updated the drivers, uninstalled the drivers completely and reinstalled them (automatically after restarting laptop), and have checked for updates on my computer (all up to date). My device manger does have 2 drivers listed which I thought was weird, but maybe it has always been like this? I'm not sure honestly. I uninstalled both and they both came back after restarting. See the image here:

Is there anything else to try? I thought uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them would fix it, but nope.

System details: Windows 10, Acer Aspire laptop (~7 months old? No issues thus far). Let me know if I need to provide any more details! Very frustrated and need to get to bed now because of work in the morning, but I will be sure to check back and try any suggestions and answer any questions.

i am using win7 ultimate. i am hearing very little or no sound via my PC speakers. however, i can hear sound via headphones.

checked all possible setting as per my knowledge. kindly someone help.

The point to note here is that sound is working perfectly OK in Ubuntu 11.10. so my speakers appear to be OK.

Answer:No sound through PC speakers but headphones working - Acer Aspire 5336

Are they both the same connecion? If the speakers are USB, see if you can find drivers on the manufacturing website.

Also in case you didnt.. Go to sound in the control panel double click the speakers you have (they should be there) and go to levels. Turn it up there.
