The details pane used to show a thumbnail preview of the first page of Adobe Acrobat documents when I selected the file. This was extremely helpful to me due to the nature of how I file these documents, as I didn't have to open the files - I only had to select them. As of this morning, the details pane only shows the name of the document and does not display a thumbnail preview of the first page. How do I fix this? Thank you!!
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Hi,
please see my screenshot, my details pane is not showing any codec information.
I had to reinstall after a windows 10 update killed my computer (update loop bsod - I can't believe updates are stilling crashing computers).
before the details pane use to show codec info like:
Video Codec, example VC-1, AVCAudio Codec, example DTS, TrueHD
how do I get it to show?
One way is to use this
File Metadata - Home
and use its file association manager to enable it for extensions you're interested in.
How can I re-associate .mp4 files with video details displaying in the Details Pane? After installing the K-lite codecs pack, my mp4's all began displaying in the details pane as audio files (Album, Artist etc) and no longer displays the important video default details (size, frame height, bitrate etc). I assume it was because of incorrectly associating file types when installing the codecs (even though wmv's, avi's are still correct), so I uninstalled the codecs but the Details categories remain for typical audio files. I've exhausted The Google and I'm stumped... any help? (Win7, 32-bit with VLC as my default player) Thanks!
Have you tried resetting your Folder Templates?

Have recently discovered that whenever I double click on a picture to view it in the picture viewer, it comes up with the border but the actual picture doesn't show up.
At the same time, whenever I use Windows Movie Maker, if I import pictures into it, they show up in the preview window when I left click on them at first, but when I drag them down onto the video editing track, they no longer show up on the preview.
Can anyone help me with this?
I have enabled the Preview Pane (Organize/Layout/Preview Pane) and the preview pane is displayed.
However, the only preview that is displayed is *.jpg.
Other files such as *.doc, *.docx, *.xls, *.txt and .eml are not displayed.
Any Ideas what is wrong?
Also I understand that there is someway to preview *.pdf
Any help would be much appreciated.
For anyone else who experiences the same problem, the solution is to enable;Tools/Folder Options/Views/Show Preview Handlers in Preview Pane
3 more repliesHello. Yup. I'm new to Windows 8. I simply cannot get the preview pane to show previews of my folders. I have read and re-read all and any information pertaining to this problem and have tried all the advice given regarding clicking on preview pane, going to view, options, changing icons/thumbnails but.... alas and alack, I still cannot preview documents or e-mails. I wonder if some kind bod out there has any advice in simple words?!
This is a screenshot of my "no preview available" problem.
I do hope someone can help me.
Hello Charlie, and welcome to Eight Forums.
The preview pane will not show previews of folders. Instead, the preview pane can be used to see the contents of a file, such as an Office document, without opening it in an app, and image files.

Hi,I'm using Windows 7 Professional x64. When I use Windows Explorer to view image files (jpg, png, etc.), I would like to see each image's dimensions listed in the Details Pane (when it's set to view the images as Icons/Thumbnails, rather than Details). However, the only details that show up in the Details Pane are Name, Type, Date Created, Date Modified, and Size. This is the case even though:* I've checked 'Dimensions' in the 'Choose Details' options* The folder is already categorized/optimized for 'Pictures'* Other folders show the other details I want -- i.e., the Details Pane for my 'Videos' folder shows Length, Frame Width, Frame Height, and other details that I've chosenAny suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.
I think you are asking Windows Explorer to do more than it is intended to do.Try using infranview to view the folder. Get infranview at the link below.http://www.irfanview.com/
3 more repliesI need a little help with something that seems simple. I am using Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit. I have changed the columns in Details view in a folder. However Windows is not populating those columns, so what am I missing? This holds true on both my network drives and my local drives, so I checked my indexing options and they are set to index my local drives, so I assumed that should have at least worked. Any help would be very much appreciated.
Welcome to Seven Forums JLH1. Try this:
Right click an empty area in that folder> Sort by> More
Scroll down the list and make sure the categories you want are checked> OK

A long story short is that my cat ran over my keyboard and now all my folders have a preview/details pane I can't get rid of. I read it could be removed by going to Folder Options, General, Use Classic View. Well guess what, there is no classic view! I included two screenshots to show my problem.

How can I change the color of details pane in Windows Explorer? I'm trying to modify Soft7 visual style to suite my needs.. I've found allmost everything else, but I can't find the way to change this. Is it a bitmap in shellstyle.dll, msstyles, or something else?
A fairly simple question:
Has anyone tried to (or found a third party app) that can put the details pane back to the bottom of the File Explorer windows, like it was in 7. It was of great use to me when reading tags and other information. In 8, it just takes needless width space from the windows.
Shell32.dll but modifyng it crashes windows 8 (at least in CP/RP), havent tried in RTM yet.

How to Customize the Details Pane in Windows 10
1 more repliesis there anyway i can display my details panel on the bottom ? like it used to on win 7?
because windows 10 shows it on right hand side, but it's just taking too much of the space on my screen, it's really inconvenient when you open 2 folders and snap to sides and modify files.
Was just thinking the same thing. Here is how my Win7 workstation looks (about perfect to me! Note Classic Explorer is also running).
...and in Win10. The preview thumbnail image in the details pane cannot be resized (larger).
I just did a reinstall of XP Pro and am having trouble with video files being "in use" when trying to move/delete them (only a several second lag, but it is annoying me). It has to do with a preview being generated in the details pane in the bottom left corner of Explorer. I eventually figured out how to turn off the preview option on my last install but have forgotten how I did it. Under folder options I have "do not cache thumbnails" unchecked. Is this the setting I need to change? Or is it somewhere else? It seems to me I need an option to not show a preview in the details pane.
Thanks for any suggestions.
I haven't done an XP install, but I have had problems like yours. Here is how I fix them without reinstalling, in case it may help? (The instructions may be different for XP.)
Thumbnails are used as icons when the folder is in Thumbnail view. This is usually not the problem, since they are usually cached after the first time. I turn them off by getting the Properties window for that folder. (I just go to the parent folder and right-click on the folder there, then choose Properties.) Then in one of the tabs, I find the Enable thumbnail view option and uncheck it. But, again, this is probably not the problem.
The preview thumbnail (actually, the whole details pane) can be turned off by unchecking View as Web Page in the View menu in one folder. Or, you can turn it off for all folders by going to View menu > Folder Options > General tab > choose Custom, then click the Settings button and in the View Web Content in Folders section, choose Only for folders where I select "as Web Page" [View menu]
If I want the details pane, but not the preview, I edit the HTML of the window. I don't know if you want to try this, it can be confusing, but here's what I do, just in case:
I right-click on the detail pane (or you can use the View menu), and click Customize this Folder... then choose create or edit HTML document. This allows me to customize that details pane. To remove only the worst case files from the preview, I see if I can find "var w... Read more

More repliesIn order to customize which fields are displayed in the details pane for a given file type you can:
1. Run Regedit.
2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\SystemFileAsso ciations\.mp3 (Or whatever file type you want to edit.)
3. Edit the PreviewDetails string.
My question is:
Is there a way to do something similar for folders? Currently, the only info displayed in the details pane when a folder is selected is Date modified, and Availability. I would like to add other details to this pane (Size, Date created etc...). Is this possible?
Is there a way to display file folder location in the details pane view?

Hello,
Click Here to download abcAVI, save it to your desktop, once download is complete run installer => Open up abcAVI => On the top menu bar the first icon will let you select one movie file to edit, the second icon will allow you to select a whole directory to edit all movie files in it, once in the movie just go down to Genre and choose the one you would like or type in your own => Click Save once done

So what i need is to find a way to expand what ever that is shown in the details pane so that it shows the entire content in consecutive lines without being restricted to one line (without having to hover a mouse)

Once installed, go to the details tab of a files properties, and you can edit them as you wish, which will also appear at the bottom of Windows Explorer.

0 more repliesHello.
I've been trying to re-organize my photo collection. Previously, I had been using Windows Live Photo Gallery to tag my photos, and admittedly it was convenient. Recently, though, the program has gone on the fritz to where thumbnails aren't loading so it's harder to differentiate photos simply by the file name in cases where I have a lot of photos of the same group or folder. While I've tried a lot of troubleshooting to get the thumbnails to load, and would gladly take advice on that issue, in the meantime I'm trying to accomplish the same thing using the details pane in explorer.
When I highlight a photo right now, most file types load the date stamp, tags, rating, author(s) and comments properties in the details pane. However, I'd like to edit the people properties so I can tag individuals in the photos. I have not seen a way to easily do that short of using other software (such as Photo Gallery).
Does anyone know if there's a way to do this through explorer or will it require a separate application?
You are talking about edit Exif data. There are programs out there that allow you to do that.

Is there any way to permanently remove or disable all of the various "views" in the Windows 7 Navigation Pane *except* for Details? If a subdirectory contains audio files I *never* want to see "Album" or "Artist" or any of the rest of that garbage. If the subdirectory contains an image file I *never* want to see a thumbnail of images. If I need more information about a file I'll right click on it and select Properties, thankyewverymuch!
In short, when I click anywhere in the left or right panel in the Navigation Pane I never want to see *ANYTHING* except the file name, type, size, and date modified. If it isn't a file (e.g. Network, etc.) just show me a computer or device name, not some massive image of a router or other waste of my time.

You can modify the folder templates for different folder types like Music, Pictures, etc. where you can specify things like that.
These should get you on track to setting those up:

I have this problem with the vista details pane and I have not been able to find any solution. I have Windows Vista 32 bit Home Premium version. The problem is that:
1. My details pane is missing a lot of properties/tags . Only ones that are appearing are file date, file name, dated created.
2. When I go into a MP3 folder, same thing happens as I described in 1. Just the 4 tags appear and I don?t get any other tags that used to be there like artist name, rating, title, etc.
3. I cannot edit any Tag in the details pane. When everthing was working fine, I could go in the MP3 folder , I could edit the title, ratings etc. and Save it. But now I can?t do anything, the save button does not appear and the tags don?t go in edit mode.
Up till now I have tried the following solutions:
1. I have reset all the folder options in Vista by going to Folders/tools/reset defaults. (did not work)
2. After resetting the folders, I have also turned on the details pane option under Organize/Layout and the details under the Views. (did not work)
3. Under View, in the tool bar, I went to Customize This Folder and chose the Music Folder Option, All Items etc. (did not work)
4. Then on the Microsoft site, I found this solution ? Open Documents by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Documents., and click a file to apply properties. Then In the Details pane at the bottom of the folder window, click the property that you want to change, type the new property in the Tags.? But it did not work ei... Read more

Hi, I have not had a Problem with Vista until now, last night I noticed that I went back to my pc and my Windows borders are now a White like colour instead of being a metallic transparent grey/black colour, Ive tried messing with Aero and all those settings to fix it but still nothing, and also My window previews no longer work, I go to try and enable them and for some reason they are greyed out now, but they werent before. Can I please get a hand?? :/ Also I prefer vista over 7 :P
Sounds like it may be a graphics card driver or the actual card
Type device manger in search. Then go to Device Manager and look for any yellow warning signs concerning the graphics card. Update the driver.
So recently I've been using windows 7 a lot and every so often the task bar stops showing previews and starts showing tool tips and when I move the mouse off of the taskbar the icon remains highlighted as though my mouse were still over it the only way to fix it is to restart explorer.
anyone else ever have this issue and or know of a way to fix it?
Hi Flare561,
I think Windows Aero has to be enabled in order for the previews to show up. Are you turning it off perhaps? My VGA card did not qualify for Aero so I only see the words. Not the previews.

I do not want to see a large space to the right of my photos & files in file explorer. I want to see the full space filled with them. Hi,
I must apologize in advance for any forthcoming ignorance, as I am a forum newbie. Using Win8.1, I am trying to relocate the Details Pane in Explorer from the space wasting right side to the well fitting & familiar bottom.
Fix I found is here: How To Move Details Pane To The Bottom In Windows 8.1 File Explorer
Has anyone had any experience in general with this tool? Haven't been able to find out any more jnfo either way othter than the link.
Thank you in advance for your time.
Better use Old New Explorer:
OldNewExplorer - make your 8.1/10 explorer work like Win7/8 one - StartIsBack+ - MSFN Forum
It has some other features but the one you are searching for is one of them. It doesn't always make the hack but it is much safer than patching the shell32.dll

I was wondering if you know if there is a way to improve Vista's Video Preview on the Details Pane.
The problem I see is that Vista shows the very 1st second of video, while Windows 7 shows the 4th. That's why many of the video previews on the details pane show a black screen on vista instead of actual video.
If anyone else has the answer, I will be really grateful.
I guess you could edit that through the registry, but believe me, lol, to be honest Idk...
6 more repliesI want to make some specific changes to the default Preview Details string for picture files in Windows Explorer. I have found an excellent write-up on how to edit that string using regedit, but the author was only interested in the specific around music. In the attached picture, I show the file properties/attributes that I am interested in placing in the Detail Pane. The current edited string is shown below.
prop:System.Photo.DateTaken;System.Keywords;System.Title;System.Subject;
*System.Photo.PeopleNames;*System.Contact.Location;*System.Contact.StateOrProvince;
*System.Contact.Country;System.Comment;*System.DateCreated;*System.DateModified;
*System.SharedWith
As you can see, some work, others don't. Is there a comprehensive list of these properties and their syntax in the form
(*)System.xxxx.yyy
that one can refer to when modifying the string?

Also the music is at external HDD

Check that your files haven't suddenly become "Read-only".
Also try running CHKDSK to check the drive.
After I've used one of my external HDDs at TAFE, my PC claims that it is "Read-only" and it takes several CHKDSK commands to fix the problem.
Of course after CHKDSK is finished, it says that there weren't any problems.

In Windows 8.1, I want to customize the properties displayed in the Details Pane for ALL of my MP3s . (That is, I do not mean removing/modifying the properties on an individual MP3/music file. I mean choosing what gets displayed in the Details Pane for all music files.)
In XP (which I love and miss), I do believe the Details Pane could be customized easily, but I see no way to do that in 8.1. For example, I want to display Artist, Album, Year, Track #, Size, and Duration ONLY. How do I remove Rating, Genre, Title, etc.
Also, can I remove the "breadcrumbs" (...) and have the full line displayed? In XP, everything was displayed. Now you have to hover over something to see it. How is that better?
I miss XP's file manager!
I connected my digital camera to the computer. Windows installed device software to use the camera.
Initially, I saw small image previews. Once all the pictures were loaded, I no longer saw the image previews. Now all I see is a Windows logo and a harddrive icon.
How can I see the image previews?
click on the harddrive icon to open it
6 more repliesHi, I just re-installed windows 7 on my desktop pc and have a question about the settings of the details pane in windows explorer (the one that appears and the bottom when you select a file). Previously when I selected video files (.mp4, .avi and .mkv) I would get the details at the bottom, the video frame width and height, size of file etc.. but since I reinstalled I don't get these details when I select video files. I know its only a small problem but I work with video files a lot and have gotten used to seeing the resolution of files without having to open them. Does anyone know how I can get the details pane to show these details again? At the moment it only displays the video size, name and state.
Here is a screen-shot of the details pane for a selected .mkv video file on my laptop, this is what I want it to display on my pc.
Is the folder set as a "Video" type?
Look at the properties of the folder, and there you will see a drop down list for the type.
I would like to see more audio details in win10 file explorer preview pane, especially the channels and bitrate for movies in the *.mkv format. (I would like to see if they include DTS 5.1, languages, subtittles etc.)
Before the latest creators update, this information was shown in the preview pane (along other video-details). Now I can't get it back. Icaros doesn't seem to help in this case.
What can I do?
Try MediaTab (free)
etc
The other day I noticed that all of the icons and previews (for images) were not showing when I am in a program and open a window for Save As../Open, etc. This happens in all programs. Attached is an example.
When I open the file location from within my computer all icons and previews work.
Things I have tried so far:
Control Panel>Advanced System Settings>Performance Settings - Made sure Show Thumbnails instead of icons is check.
Going through every folder and making sure in folder options that always show icons, never thumbnails was unchecked. I have tried numerous different scenarios.
I even went and installed custom icons. That is why it now shows some icons. Before it showed no icons at all.
I am pretty knowledgeable when it comes to settings in windows and have been running Windows 7 since it came out. If anybody knows anything else I can try, please let me know.
Thanks

Things I have tried so far:
Control Panel>Advanced System Settings>Performance Settings - Made sure Show Thumbnails instead of icons is check.
Going through every folder and making sure in folder options that always show icons, never thumbnails was unchecked. I have tried numerous different scenarios.
I even went and installed custom icons. That is why it now shows some icons. Before it showed no icons at all.
I am pretty knowledgeable when it comes to settings in windows and have been running Windows 7 since it came out. If anybody knows anything else I can try, please let me know.
Thanks
You could try the following;
To fix this problem, follow these steps:
Close all open windows if a Close Open Programs Interaction dialog box is displayed.
Verify the Max Cached Icons registry value that locates in the following registry subkey equals to 4096:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
Delete IconCache.db that locates in the following path:
Windows XP - %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data
Windows Vista or Windows 7 - %userprofile%\AppData\Local.

I googled the problem and NOTHING!!!!! many information NO LONGER is displayed in my details pane in Windows Explorer!!!!!! song length is one of them gone missing (& total length if multiple files are selected) and I use that frequently!!!!! it ONLY shows basic information now such as artist, title, album, and genre!!! but total length is GONE!!! also MANY UNRELATED INFORMATION is now in the details pane for media files!!!!!!! mood of music has been added (never heard of that tag), song rating, and composer now have been added!!!! it even displays ALL THIS SAME INFORMATION for WAV files when it used to be ONLY file size and length for WAV files!!!!!!! WAV is NOT capable of tags so I don't know why Windows Explorer shows this information for WAV files!!!!!!
HOW DO I GET MY DETAILS PANE BACK TO NORMAL???????
Can you post a screen shot of what you are seeing?

I have used Outlook as a POP3 mail handler for several (almost 10) years. Issue is with access to my Contacts List. It is there and can be accessed by clicking on the Contacts folder in the Folder List view int he Navigation Pane, but directly clicking on the Contacts shortcut on the Navigation Pane does not connect (the Mail shortcut and the Calendar shortcut both work OK. Any thoughts on how to restore the broken shortcut to the Contacts List?? Could it be trying to reach a defective Contact List??

Hello, I was wondering about the possibility to increase the images thumbnail size on the details pane in file explorer, and to make the panel maller than allowed by default. Is it possible?
Thank you for your help
There seems to be a minimum size which is pre-defined, you cannot make it smaller. The preview and details pane size is set by the DetailsContainerSizer binary value in the Registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Modules\GlobalSettings\Sizer
I do not know of way to make the thumbnail larger in the details pane. It is larger in the preview pane.

I just did a clean install of Windows 10 Pro where I had a system drive and a single storage drive installed. After that, I added another drive, and this drive shows up under "This PC" in Windows Explorer, but it does not show in the navigation pane at the left like my other drive does.
In the screenshot you'll see I have D:/ and E:/ but only E:/ shows up on the left. I'd like D:/ to show up there above E:/ like I'm used to, and I'm not sure why it's not showing up there for me.
Any information on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hello angelleye, and welcome to Ten Forums.
Only removable drives will show separately in the navigation pane. Is your D:/ drive a removable drive?

If you like, you could turn on "Show all folders" in the navigation pane to see all drives though.

The pic is fairly self-explanatory, but as you can see on the left hand side in the folders pane, there is 2 of nearly every folder. Any idea what I have done and how to rectify this?
Oops sorry it doesn't show up too well on here. It can be viewed at http://i38.tinypic.com/xp1mjq.jpg
Hello Howie, and welcome to Vista Forums.
I believe it would be easier to create a new administrator account, then copy the contents of your old user account's C:\Users\(user-name) folders into the corresponding new accoun'ts C:\Users\(user-name) folders. If everything checks out ok, then you can delete the old user account while logged on to the new one.
Hope this helps,
Shawn
Most of my pictures do not show up fully in the preview pane. Sometimes they show up completely, but usually they only load a sliver of the picture and the rest of the preview is a solid color. See the picture for examples. Format and size don't seem to have any effect on the issue, sometimes 36mp images load fine, sometimes 1mp images only load the top few rows of pixels... There doesn't seem to be much method to the madness, even the same picture will load fully or partially when I click back and forth to it. I always have plenty of memory, CPU and graphics power to display the images, it doesn't matter if I'm running one monitor or 2, explorer only or a bunch of other programs as well.
This problem i do not think is related to Windows, as images to left show fine as thumbnails, be only settings i can think of checking in Windows would be due to icons or thumbnails in folder options.
Question, did try this in Windows Photo viewer or do you have any other image viewers, Photoshop program ? You say a bunch of others programs, this what you meant ? Only other guesses would be due to if using dual monitors, settings there or graphics card issues. Besides other graphics, how is graphics card running, are the drivers up to date ? Unless this is in anyway related to the pictures themselves. Also if i look close i believe see some thumbnails to left did not completely open ans is this coming from an external device, if so, what type, HDD, flash drive ? Could be slow response, if hard drive run defrag and error checking.
When I launch outlook the windows desktop is showing in the preview pane
Go into Outlook Options, Click on the Mail tab, and under Message Arrival, make sure there is a checkmark next to Display a Desktp Allert.

Hey,
I have a question about the details pane.
Can I add a few more parameters to the little preview window on the right? (For music like BPM, Publisher etc)
.
In File Explorer, if a folder is selected in the left navigation pane, the normal behaviour is for the right pane to display sub-folders of that selected folder.
The attached screenshot shows strange behaviour.
If the library "1Documents" is selected in the left pane, there are three sub-folders: Documents, Downloads, and Downloads. (The Downloads folder with the yellow icon is an empty folder that I can't remove. It's discussed in another post.)
I would expect to see exactly the same three sub-folders in the right pane.
In fact, the entire combined contents of Documents and Downloads are shown. You can see that "Anki" is displayed twice. One instance of Anki is in the Downloads folder. The other instance is data that is used by Anki, and is in the Documents folder.
BTW: "Beyond Compare" is a data file in the Documents folder. All other visible files in the right pane are in the Downloads folder.
How can I rectify this issue so that only three folders are shown in the right pane?
Thanks.
.
I assume you have been moving the location of your default Windows libraries. Have you considered, with a full copy of your data offline, resetting the location without copying your files back to c: drive. Then redoing it. Could I ask how you did the move? Did you use the Windows "Move" facilities found on the "Location" tab when you look at the library properties?
3 more repliesI know that the solution to this was in a recent edition of PC Advisor, but after applying it I tore the page out, gave it away and now it's gone!On my desktop I have a shortcut to a folder on my network. When I double-click on the shortcut I would like the folder to open in windows explorer, but with the folders pane already pre-selected on the left, rather than having to select it from the button at the top of the window. Can anyone remember how to do this, or can some kind soul look it up from the recent PC Advisor in which the solution appeared? Many thanks,Stuart Reid
I don't know if it is the same with a network shortcut, but with Windows Explorer itself, this is achieved by adding /e to the shortcut path to give:%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /eIt then opens with "C" drive expanded in the left pane, instead of the blue "System Tasks".
3 more repliesI am going through and renaming my pictures. I click on a picture. It shows up in the preview pane. I then rename the file. After renaming the file I click on the <Tab> key to move to and rename the next picture. However, the preview pane does not show this new picture. It continues to show the previous picture that I just changed. The preview pane used to work where it would show the new picture after hitting the <Tab> key. The left and right arrow keys do not work. I am editing the name of the picture at the time. The left and right arrow keys will move within the name of the file that I am editing. If I press the Enter key the pictures automatically reorder themselves. I then have to go all the way back up and find the pictures that have not been renamed. That is a pain. Using the Tab key goes directly to the next picture so I can edit that name. However, the arrow keys do show the picture in the preview pane after I hit the Enter key. Would anyone know why this feature stopped working?
My pc motherboard was replaced a couple of weeks ago and when the engineer reinstalled windows me the left side of the explorer window remained greyed out.(It will show history and favourites, search, etc when selected).Although its only niggly I would prefer to see the folders on the left and the contents of these folders in the right pane.I have tried changing folder options to reflect the other pc I have access to but this has not resolved the problem.I don't want to reinstall windows with my original copy as I beleive it will uninstall all the hours of windows updated that I have done since.Has anyone got any ideas? Thanks
If you are running XP there should be a button labelled "Folders" to the right of the "Search" button at the top of the window (when "viewed as a web page") Click this and the panel should appear with the folders in it.
10 more repliesIn the preview pane to the right it displays images as if a layer of a solid colour has just been thrown over the majority of it. It seems as though it just decides to stop loading the image and use a colour available in it to fill in the rest. The image itself is fine, it's just the way it's being displayed. The only way I have been able to get around this is to open up the file in Paint and save it, which doesn't always work. It's tedious to keep doing this and I was wondering if there was something I could try and do to fix the problem.
I do have OldNewExplorer installed [to allow the details pane to show up at the bottom], however I uninstalled it and still have this issue.
Attached is a file that visualizes the problem that I am having [the selected image is the one displayed on the left in the preview pane], and as you can see the lower half is coloured out.

Hi,
Four days ago, suddenly file list pane disappeared when I try to save a document. At first file list was absent only when printing file to a PDF but now I'm not able to see file list pane in any of the saves in any document. I had updated Acrobat X when I had received an automatic update and I suspect that is when that happened so today I removed Acrobat X and problem did not go away so I made a fresh install of the version that was working for me but the problem still persists. I now have to type the name of the file I want to save while before I would select an existing file from the list and then modify the name slightly to reflect the version number. I have shown this problem to a few techies and they are stumped. I have tried to search for this problem but have not found a solution either.
Thanks,
Regards,
John
Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.
I would imagine the simplest solution would be a system restore to a point before you downloaded and installed the Acrobat update, and then keep any eye out for any updates you're offered before they are downloaded.

4 more repliesI'm using WIndows XP, I have my music files folders set to "details" view. Recently the ID3 information has not shown up. I can view it through winamp file info or through my tag editor. However file properties does not give any info either. All other information in detail view is available, date modified, type, size etc.
If I do a system restore it all appears again. Then after a few days or weeks it goes. It doesn't seem to bear any relation to installing new apps.
This is a very useful feature for me and I want to fix the problem. I've searched for information but found nothing. It's also difficult to search as the words are none specific.
Any help direct or indirect would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
Not sure if it's just me, or if there's a really obvious default setting that I'm missing here, but when I go to the following site:
Leeds Grand Theatre
None of the dropdowns show any options, just a white box that should contain them. When I had XP and IE8 this was fine.
Any ideas?
Just click on the Compatibility View Icon, and it should work.
3 more repliesI'm using Windows 7 Pro x64 and Microsoft Outlook 2010 is not showing any pictures in the preview pane from Facebook messages along with pictures from a few other sites. It seemed to "just happen" one day a few weeks ago. Searched problem using Google and none of the fixes I found worked.
I have an i7 cpu with 12 GB RAM.
There were some things in Windows 10 that I couldn't live with so I re-loaded Windows 7. After I did this my Windows Live Mail storage folders are not showing.
I searched for .eml files to see where they resided.
Which in Windows Live Mail when I access Options>Email>Advanced>Maintenance>Store Folder>Change....and enter in what I presume to be the correct folder based on my search...I get a message that the file is empty.
According to the search, the folders has thousands of emails.
I'm stumped.
Have a look in
Users/{your user name}/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows Live Mail
this is where all the WLM should be stored
you will need to show "Hidden Files/Folders"
This one is getting really annoying. I have noticed that sometimes when using Windows Explorer, if I rename a folder, the right hand pane shows the correct (new) folder name, but the left hand pane still displays the old folder name.
As a matter of fact, even if I right click on the folder name on the left hand pane, and choose "Rename", and then rename it there, when I hit Enter to save the name change, the folder name on the left (that was just highlighted and changed) will revert back to the original name....but the name in the right hand pane will show the change.
For some reason, it just doesn't seem to want to update the view in the left hand pane. And then, to top it off, after some undetermined amount of time, the left hand pane will "refresh" to show the new folder name, but it will STILL show the old folder in the list as well. If I right-click the parent folder and choose "Open in New Window", the view is correct, but the original window still shows the old folder names.
This may only happen after my Explorer windows (I usually have 4 or 5 up) have been open for a long time, as I tried to reproduce with new windows and the behavior is normal (left hand pane updates view immediately).
I've reported it already, but just curious if anyone else has experienced this odd behavior.
Hi CorrsFan
I think this is just a part of it being a Beta still. I have tried to delete the HomeGroup section, and while it goes for awhile as soon as it refreshes it's back. Just like some sections of the Registry is locked out and some permissions can't be changed, these things will all be sorted out by RC1. Renaming any system item is locked down in the registry and Left (Navigation) Pane items seem to be a part of this lockout.
Make sure to send MS Feedback on this so they know what works and doesn't.
Last night the power went out due to storms (we have ALL our electronics on surge protectors) This morning IE7 would not load at all. I reset my dsl modem, router & restarted my PC. That seemed to fix it, except it seems to be lagging. My computer typically runs FAST, but not today. I cleared out all the temp files, history, cookies, did the disk cleanup & defrag. Still taking longer than usual. What could it be? My puters spec are:
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20GHz
Processor Speed 2.14 GHz
Memory (RAM) 2048 MB
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition SP2

Having decided to use Vista's Mail/Contacts/Calendar, I was quite excited to see that when I hovered the mouse over the Extra Large Icon of a contact, all of his details appeared in the right hand side preview panel ...... for a moment!
Now that capability has disappeared altogether!
I have checked under Organize x Layout that the Preview Panel is checked but it remains blank all the time!
What have I (it) done to remove this handy feature?
........... but there's more ................. the contact's name comes up say michael smith.contact but I only want Michael Smith to show (not the word "contact").
When I try to rename it to a straight Michael Smith, Vista gets all upset and starts tellimg me that it probably won't work anymore if I persist!!
There's gotta be a way to rename these contacts!
Does anyone think this is a virus? issues are;

2. when uploading files to the internet it takes about 4 mins for the files to apear in the choose file pop up, can see folders only for this time.

something is wrong with my personal settings on boot but cannot trace the particular .dll online.
Bought the laptop last year new, but in mexico and the guy in the shop had to put visa (enterprise) on it for me. it had 2 gig ram and an intelcore2 duo processor. service pack1.
any ideas what I should do next to try and fix??

Here an image of what it looks like currently:
I'm using W7 Professional N x64.
I would suspect some software or device driver is missing. I don't know what it could be, but look over the reinstall and see if you are missing something you had before.

Hi,
I am trying to schedule message analyser, I have given up on command line but have got it nearly working in Powershell.
The problem I have is that when opening the resultant file in message analyser it does not complete the processname, commandline or imagepath values.
It does when I run the capture manually interactively in the application.
Any ideas please, I need to run it for a specific time overnight but it is not much good if I cannot see the processes generating the traffic!
Thanks in advance

I'm seeing incorrect icons displayed under Windows 10 for certain executable files when viewed in Windows 10 Explorer in Details view. If I change the folder view to Thumbnails, the correct icon is shown, but if I switch back to Details view they're still displayed incorrectly.
I have repeatedly tried resetting the icon cache and re-opening the folders, but that doesn't help.

No idea about how to create a tile on the start screen but you could take a photo of your details you wish to display and set it to the lock screen as a background? Have a look at Personalise the lock screen here.

1 more repliesI have various domains registered with 1and1 for email purposes. Last weekend I built my first website using 1and1 websitebuilder. I am fairly satisfied with the results, but there is one major problem - when I enter the site into Google, the correct URL is shown, but the details about the website relate to a website my son built about a band he was in at the time. The website is about educational services so this is obviously very confusing for anyone interested in that subject and unlikley to win many new customers! I have spoken to 1and1 at length about this and inserted key words and generated mete tags but they tell me there is nothing else which can be done now and I must wait until Google visits the site and updates it's detailas and no-one know how long that might be. Can anyone tell if there is any way of getting this fixed quickly? emailing the Google webmaster for instance. I also need to understand how this can happen - it it IP address specific or hosting company specific? Any help would be very much appreciated.
Hi
If you are seeing content that came from another site at the time your new site was crawled, the most likely issue is a configuration error at the host. In virtually every case where this has arisen, that has been the cause.
However, not much more can be said without knowing the site(s) concerned.
got brand new lumia 640xl but the glance screen does not show date or weather or background photo.
although notifications are shown by the glance screen.
It's either in battery save mode, or you didn't enable it (date, detailed status, quick status, background photo) in Glance. Also MS Weather won't show up unless it's opened in Lock screen and stored on the phone. BTW only MS Weather will show weather, the other weather apps will only show their background. You also have to choose Calendar in Lock screen to show detailed status...did you try to read up on how to or did you just assume things would enable themselves ? many think they do.

Has anyone any idea why outlook express 6 should cease to display the mandatory information about each email in each folder. All folders have the problem. The information usually displayed about each email is sender, subject date etc. The headers appear as they should only the data is missing. All that appears now is the complete first email that is in the folder.
I have tried every option in the view layout.
Another interesting thing is that if I remove the tick from the view email in preview pane nothing happens, it is still displayed.
I have thought about reinstalling but I would rather find the problem why first.
As it says in the title SN shows as 000000 and part number as Ver. 1.
Neither of which are remotely accurate. How do I change them? I have tried removing and reloading an updated version (of each) with no joy.
Any ideas?
> As it says in the title SN shows as 000000 and part number as Ver. 1.
What serial number and part number (model number???) do you mean exactly?
Do you mean the notebook?s serial and model number?
These details are part of the DMI string.
Usually after the mainboard exchange such DMI string needs to be updated using correct data.
In case the DMI will not be updated, the data like serial number and others will not be shown correctly.
File "Description" data fields etc. no longer appear in the Windows Explorer "Details" pane. Please see attachment.
Operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium, Version 6.0.6002, Service Pack 2, Build 6002.
