No Operating System / Windows XP

Question: No Operating System / Windows XP

You know the story leading in; got a virus. Lost the operating system. Found that the CD/DVD Drive no longer works. I bought a new hard drive, only I can't format it. Our new computer operates on Windows 7, so can't use it to format the new hard drive. Can't operate old computer. Originally would just get black screen, with "No operating system found". Had F2 option. Bought computer recovery disc for Acer Aspire 3610, but computers disc drive doesn't work (I think virus got the driver). Finally bought a PATA to USB jumper, and pulled HDD from Acer. Connected HDD to good computer and found I could access folders, files etc. Had the good computer run analysis, and fix. Loaded HDD back in bad computer, and got setup windows. Now I can get to the point where the bad computer (Acer) asks for Windows XP Home Addition Disk and hit enter to load. Still no Disc operation. I have the Product Key from Acer for the Windows XP Home Addition. I am thinking I can get a copy of XP Home Addition from some site and download it to disc using the good computer using the Product Key. I don't know where to go to get it, or how to make the disc drive work on the bad computer in order to load. Any ideas, or clarifications needed?
Also, I think I can format the new HDD using the jumper (PATA to USB), but have to wait until I get some of those small jumpers to set the new HDD as a slave, so it will be recognized as a drive. Am I wrong about this?

Thanks,

Jchaffcom

Preferred Solution: No Operating System / Windows XP

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This may should like a stupid question but I am not sure so I felt that i should seek assistance from on of the most reliable places I know of.

I have a system that I want to give away but i cant give it away with the current operating system as it is under educators license. Currently the system is running windows xp pro. It is possible to put my older operating system back on the machine. I have been told that I can't by several people but I figured if anyone would know the people in here would ..

I appreciate any and all help with this.

Answer:operating system question about going back to prior operating system

yes you can. if you have NTFS and want to put back win98 or winME you need to format the volume with FAT32. you can use a win98 or winME startup diskette. or you can download one from www.bootdisk.com .

Hi-I bought a used Dell Optiplex 780 with no o/s installed to replace my old Dell Dimension 3000.  I have a brand new copy of Windows 7 to install on it.  I've reinstalled xp on my old computer 2 or 3 times so I'm not completely new to this but, I thought I'd try to find out as much as possible before I begin.  Any advice will be appreciated.  I am wondering - when I connect the keyboard, mouse and monitor to the Optiplex with no o/s, will it recognize the components so that I can begin the installation of Windows 7?

Answer:installing operating system on computer with no operating system installed

Hey all! I am pretty new to this kind of Win7 issues, so I hope some of you will be able to help. Story goes...

After few hours of gaming the computer died. (It happened right after switching keyboards.) Now, on every setup BIOS(?) comes up with list of options (F2 enter BIOS, F11 boot options, F6 Flash etc.). After that a black screen with error message comes up: Missing Operating System.

I tried rebooting from USB (since I have no disk-drive) and I keep on getting the answer: Error Loading Operating System.

Any ideas?

Thx

Answer:Missing Operating System/Error Loading Operating System

All unlikely, but possible - (a) your HDD died. (b) your bios became corrupted (c) your HDD boot sector became corrupted (d) your HDD partition is corrupted.

Does the drive spin up when you switch on (feel it)?
Check the bios to see if the HDD is reported correctly and is at the top of the boot order.
Find a bootable CD - an OS installer, or create Easeus partition manager bootable CD http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm and boot from it. What does the HDD look like with Easueus?

Hi,
When i start my pc, i get a 30 second count down to either choose an operating system or system restore. if i choose windows xp professional, everything is fine. when i choose restore point, i get "INF file textsetup.sif is corrupt or missing, status 14. setup cannot continue. press any key to continue".
choosing last known best settings hasnt changed this situation either.
basically i just dont want to see this screen, it prolongs the computer start up. i just got it today as a refurbed hp desktop from buy.com. i tried system properties, advanced, startup settings and unchecked both boxes, as well as clearing the boot.iti file to no avail.
a rep at hp that was nice enough to just give me an opinion said i need the disk that came w the pc, which i obviously cant get. any ideas?
thank you so much for your time.

Answer:Choose operating system at startup-windows xp or system restore

You probably could purchase the disk from the manufacturer. They make a lot of money selling them to people.

Post the manufacturer & model of the computer, and verify the exact text of the message. That message is odd.

If I change my operating system to linux and delete my old operating system entirely, will I be able to still use system restore to change my old operating system back?
Please help. All help is appreciated.

Answer:If I change my operating system to linux, can I still use windows' system restore?

The simple answer is no. If you remove an OS then you can not use it to do a restore because it is no longer there to run the restore program. What I would recommend would be to have a duel boot system.

I used to think that there was something up with the 'system' file running in processes because it often times dials out to something when I'm connected to the net.

Before my fresh reinstall and putting in COMODO 4, I attempted to block system but it gets to the point where after system has tried to get through for several days the computer stops functioning properly.

So this time I left system alone but COMODO, through it's own default set up, has been blocking something called 'system' and 'windows operating system' which persistently knocks at my firewall.

So I am asking, is COMODO, through it's own default instict, in the right by blocking these?

And if these are trojans, where can I find and delete them? My scanners don't pick up the files and COMODO will not show a path to the files that are making these attempts on my firewall.

Hi I started my PC up today and as it boots up in goings into the Windows setup program rather than the usual sequence. It also gave a 0198 Security - Unauthorized BIOS update attempted which I have now sorted out as per the Lenovo web-site. Does anyone know why the system thinks it must set up Windows? Thanks

Answer:System wants to reinstall Windows operating system

I'm not sure what you mean by "Windows setup program", but if your PC is trying to boot into PXE, then check to make sur eyour mouse and keyboard are securely connected. In fact, I'd suggest removing and re-installing. The last M50 IBMs I used were setup in the BIOS so that if there wasn't a keyboard attached, it would try to PXE boot rather then booting from the HDD. This is because that's the sequence that was selected for an "error boot" in the BIOS. Hope this helps!

I have Sony Vaio VGN-CR35G/N and it's operating on Windows XP. I reinstalled the Windows XP and everytime I turn on my laptop, it will asked me which operating system I want to run and I have tried the first one which is the new one. I had a problem to connect to the internet as I don't know how so I choose the second one which is my old operating system and I tried to close the first one, but i deleted the wrong operating system, so I end up with the new one. do you know how to restore the operating system that I have jut deleted from the control panel/system/advanced? I don't remember the thing.

Answer:Operating System windows xp

You obviously screwed up during the reinstall of XP, then screwed up a 2nd time by deleting the wrong OS. I suggest you start over & do a fresh install. Boot off the XP disk, remove all partitioning, create new partitions, format as NTFS, then install XP. You'll need to install all the drivers (chipset, video, sound, network, etc), SP3 (if it's not on your XP disk), IE8, all the Windows updates, anti-virus, etc, etc.

Hi everybody :

This is a question about Windows 7 Operating System. I notice, every once in a while, when I boot up, the display gets stuck on the BIOS splash screen. Then I manually turn my computer off.....wait a minute before booting back up. Then the BIOS screen only displays for a second or so, then proceeds with the boot up process. Is this indicate that my Operating System might've gotten corrupt ? My Operating System is : Windows 7 Professional / 32-bit.
Thanks,
garystan

Hello,

I am new here and am in need of good advice. I am fairly computer savvy enough to be reallllly dangerous. And that is why I am here.

I have a Dell Demention 5100 running Windows XP Home. Two weeks ago I ran SpyCather Express and it picked a WINDOWS file that was quarentined. The PC would subsequently stop booting at the "Windows is Loading" stage.

Long and short of it, I had Dell ship me the restore disk with drivers etc. Trying to repair this myself because warranty had expired I loaded Windows OS again and now I have TWO Windows XP OS on the PC.

I still have my old files, photos, music etc. but when it boot now it tell me to choose what OS to use (both XP). I choose the first one XP and the system is running fine. If I choose the second XP, it doesn't boot at all (thats where the files , i.e. music, pictures etc are).

I also partitioned the drive (didn't know I did that, the DELL support told me to run BOOTFIX \R and it partitioned.

So my question is, I would like to get rid of the second OS after I move all the files over to the working OS files using Windows Explorer. (MAKES SENSE?????...Sorry)

I am loosing space with the two OS and the partitioned drive correct?

Thannnnnk you very much.

See what I mean, I know enough to be dangerous.

Hi!Why does HP come up with a MS Windows OS, and charge it's customers for it when they don't even want to buy Widnows. And then my laptop doesn't contain a Licence key, so recovery is another issue. We have to keep that partition. If we loose that we loose Wndows, or else it keep occupying GBs of our hard drive and a physical partition. Why doesn't HP just install a free Linux, and reduce the amount charged for windows from it's product. It will be a bit cheaper for users and will give them freedom to choose their own OS.

Answer:Why does HP come with a Windows Operating System?

Hi, Firstly; HP sells many machines with FreeDOS. Secondary; you can create a Recovery set yourself and keep it in a safe place. It contains Operating system and drivers which allow you to bring your machine back the Fatory settings status.Thirdly: the Windows key is in the BIOS of your machine. You won't loose the key.Regards.

I would like to know if there is any other operating system, nearly as good as Windows XP Pro, which does NOT NEED activating. Although I purchased a new genuine copy of Windows XP Pro, costing over £200.00, a few years ago, I find Microsofts control over it diabolical. I have upgraded my system twice recently, only to be told it must be reactivated within 30 days etc. As an elderly pensioner, my hobby is building and repairing computers for my grand-children, and due to microsofts control, I cannot install this copy of Windows XP on their computers. I am building a very good quality computer for my daughter-in-laws unisex hair salon, and I cannot install this copy of Windows XP on her computer. Although I did pay over £200.00 for my Windows XP I find microsofts control over the software as totally unacceptable. Any recommendations of similar operating system not needing activated, or any way round these problems would be appreciated. Many thanks to all who take the time to reply.

I need to upgrade my hard drive but am worried that I will need to reinstall Windows XP Home. The problem is that I don't have the Windows CD-Rom as my current hard drive originally came from an HP system and the only copy is on a partition on the hard drive. I've upgraded just about everything else on the system (CPU, motherboard, graphics card etc...) and have had to reactivate once. But I'm very uncertain that I can use a new SATA drive without installing a new version of Windows XP Home. Any advice? Also, if I do need to buy a new version of Windows, can I get away with an OEM version?

I have had my Dell 8700 for little over a year and have had problems from the beginning.  I am 72 years old, and I am at my wits end!!!

A hard drive was replaced in the summer of 2015, but I have still had problems with the computer shutting down and my having to refresh it to factory setting.

I thought updating to Windows 10 would solve some problems, and I did this in October, 2015.  Everything was fine until a couple of months ago.  The end result was when I tried to refresh the computer to factory defaults, it went back to 8.0 or 8.1, and I evidently lost something in the process.
Now, I cannot update to Windows 10 and when I tried to resinstall the Dell Operating System, I get for both:  "WE COULDN'T UPDATE THE SYSTEM RESERVED PARTITION."
I DO HAVE A SYSTEM BACKUP ON 20 CDS (MADE WHEN I HAD WINDOWS 10).  Could I reinstall the system with these backupdisks?  How do I do that?  I also have a Dell 2 Boot USP stick, I have a recovery stick, too, but it semed that when I used this, I received a message that not all files were recovered
What should I do at this point?

Answer:Error message when trying to update to Windows 10 or to reinstall operating system 8.1: We couldn't update the system reserved partition."

On MBR disk, Windows 10 requires a 500MB system reserved partition, while 100MB in Windows 7, so you can try to extend system reserved partition.
In disk management, you can only extend partition using the unallocated space next to its right side. so even if you shrink D: drive, the option to extend the efi partition is still grayed out. My suggestion is to use a third party software, AOMEI Partition Assistant, both the standard (free) or the Professional(paid) version can extend partition as long as there is unallocated space on that hard drive. to see more information read:

I recently purchased a desktop PC Windows 7, 16GB of DDR 3 RAM, cant operate windows 8 at all, so i bought a second user Windows 7 Machine. However the Operating system is a copy, ( not a Genuine Windows Disk) its Windows 7 Ultimate 32Bit. I have no motherboard disk, nor any software disks, my printer wont work, and i cant locate any software or a driver for it, and I purchased 2 different Webcams, hoping to use Skype..plug and play, neither would work. I dont know my options, scrap it, or ring Microsoft up in London and maybe buy a genuine key to make this a Genuine copy of windows, any advice would be welcomed.

Answer:Bogus Windows 7 Operating system

I am a tad confused.
You have bought two PC's or only one PC and you say that the operating system is a copy or something? What gives you that idea? As for the motherboard disks and driver disks for printers ETC these are easily enough to find. But first we must get your PC to work.
Do you have the Windows 7 COA number which should be on a sticker on your PC somewhere or you can find this out by using Belarc which will tell you the number.
Belarc will also tell you what motherboard you have and with that information we can find the driver download page.
Same with printer, post make and model we will link to the drivers.
The cameras should work once Windows 7 is sorted.
You can also download and burn to disk a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate from here.

Hi!
This is my first posting and need recommendations.
I have Windows 7 64 byte OS but my computer is not recognizing it any longer.
Im pretty certain a virus has caused this.
I have spent many hours trying to research and attempt to recover everything myself.
Using Sytem Recovery Tool it clearly shows the OS is UNKNOWN on local disk.
Startup repair cannot repair automatically.
Diagnosis & repair details show no OS files found on disk.
Error code 0X3bc3.

I have the Windows 7 CD with product key that is in the disk drive.
Windows loads files.
Starting Windows screen.
I get to Configure language and location options in Windows 7 Setup screen
Windows 7 Install Windows screen
Repair your computer
System Recovery Options dialog box
System Recovery Options - nothing listed.
If I select LOAD DRIVER I can look in drives and folders but dont know what I am looking at or for.
I have C drive/System D drive/Boot X drive
Im not sure about what to do or if a virus is hiding somewhere.

Boot configuration is screwed up...I dont know what to do at this point.
Even if I try system restore a virus could be hidden somewhere?

Any recommendations for this fabulous situation I am in???
I have backed up my system on a WD my passport. God only knows if that was done correctly or not.
All I want is my ITUNES back and my music - I dont care about anything else in life - HAHAHAHA!

Thanks
Melanie

Let's start at the beginning. Are you trying to repair the system or are you prepared to start from scratch with a format and reinstall? If the former, you should post in the Am I Infected forum on this site because if your system IS infected, running a repair won't help - the system will still be infected. If you are willing to start from scratch please let us know and we'll walk you through it.

I have a genuine copy of Win 7 64bit and 32 bit operating system disks complete with code and COA sticker. The 64 bit os was used on my PC which has now been updated with a new 64 bit os. Not if you used an 'upgrade' version of the new OS. If you bought a retail version of your new OS and formatted the drive and your Win7 was a retail version, then yes.

I am running Windows 98 and want to install a media player that needs windows xp I have been told that all I need to do is change a setting that tells the system what version it is, from 98 to xp. Is this correct and if so how do I do it

Answer:Changing windows operating system name

I think that someone is getting mixed up. In Windows XP you can set compatibility mode so that the operating system can run programs written for earlier versions of Windows but as far as I am aware you can't do it the other way around. For that to happen Windows 98 would have had to be able to see the future. If it states that the program needs Windows XP then that is what it needs.

A few years back I bought a HP Pavilion laptop on Ebay with xp pro, office 2003 and some other programs preinstalled. Windows has sincestarted an authenticity check and tells me that the installed XP was from some type of multiple lisence and since it is not authentic will not allow me to update with it with the service packs. I have a copy of XP pro on my shelf that I had purchased with my old (non-working) computer but when I tried to authenticate laptop version with its product key was told it didn't match with the installed version. Is there some workaround to solve this problem?

Alternatively, can I remove the existing XP from this computer and reload with my purchased copy without losing my files and the other programs e.g. MS office.

If neither of those are possible, it would seem that the last alternative would be to save the hard disk contents to a Flash drive then remove and install the other windows xp system.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi all, I have just bought a new zoostorm preloaded PC., and when it boots up 'Loading Operating System' pops up for say 10/20 seconds and then proceeds as normal to Windows. Now the only reason I'm asking is because my other Windows 7 PC doesn't do this? So what I'm asking is...should I be worried? Or is this normal, the PC is working fine.

Answer:Windows 7: Loading operating system...

Read this it may just be that it will explain what is going on at boot-up. You will have to enter the BIOS to make the necessary changes.

Alright, so this problem is a little complicated.

My computer fell a couple days ago, and I had to get a new hard drive. Unfortunately, my mother let my uncle who is NOT a professional install a "new" hard drive, which was actually his old one and came with Linux and not Windows.
It worked fine but I wanted Windows, so he did something and installed Windows 7 from a flash drive. And it was great.
Until this afternoon, when I accidentally changed the BIOS order and now I'm getting an "operating system not found" message... Is there something wrong with the hard drive (again, it isn't new) or did I just completely mess something up?

Answer:Windows 7 says Operating System Not Found-- Help!

Hello lesharo, welcome to Seven Forums!

Have you tried setting the "BIOS order" back to what it was before you changed it?

Hello,  I have bought an HP laptop which comes with preinstalled Windows 7 and the possibility to upgrade to Windows 10 pro. I am interested in downloading a clean Windows 10 Image and perform complete reinstall using USB drive. As far as I know such laptops store licence keys in BIOS, so the question is: how can I get the key, or will the key automaticaly used by Windows during installation process? Thanks in advance

Would appreciate anyone giving me any advice possible.

Will Microsoft release a windows 10 32 bit operating system? The reason I ask this it is not clear. If Microsoft is not going to release a 32 bit operating system for windows 10, I will be wasting my time testing windows 10. The reason is most likely some programs and drivers that work with 32 bit system will not work with 64 bit system.

Answer:Will MS release a windows 10 32 bit operating system?

I do not believe MS had made a Technical Preview test versions of both x86 and x64 if they were not planning to publish both. So the answer is yes, you can download and test the free Technical Preview x86 now and buy one when the final product is released.

Answer:Help installing operating system windows!!!!!!

Having everything plugged in is good, but if you haven't installed everything properly, the system won't be able to find the optical drive, which seems to be the problem you're having. There are a few items that could be responsible for that type of problem, so let's take a look and see if we can figure this out.

Just a heads-up about installing Windows, or any OS; it will install MUCH faster if the IDE devices are connected to different channels. The HDD should be the only device on the Primary IDE channel, jumpered properly, and the optical drive should be the only device on the Secondary IDE channel, also jumpered properly. If you're installing Windows with only a single IDE cable connecting both IDE drives, the installation will take a lot longer.

First of all, if you're using the HDD on the Primary IDE channel, with the internal optical drive on the Secondary IDE channel, SHUTDOWN the system, UNPLUG IT FROM THE WALL, and put EACH device at the END of their own IDE cable. Then, set the HDD jumper to "Single", NOT to "Master". Similarly, set the optical drive to "Master", not to "Slave". Many IDE optical drives are set as Master by default at the factory before shipping, but you might as well make sure that the jumper is in the right place; if someone moved the optical drive jumper to "Slave", the drive will not be recognized by the CMOS / BIOS when it polls the hardware.

Or, if you're ... Read more

I downloaded and installed something called Untangle today. I didn't read the small details of it, I only wanted the main aspect.. This is the part I didn't see:

"Your hardware does not need an operating system ? the Untangle Server installs its own operating system.
The Untangle Server software completely erases any content or data that may exist on your PC hard drive."

I realized now that it was a very bad mistake. I couldn't use it without 2 video cards or something it said. This made Untangle utterly useless. Due to the fact that I couldn't complete the set-up, my computer is now unusable. I couldn't reach the desktop as usual (later on, I found out that it was deleted and replaced by Untangle). So I decided to go uninstall it. There is no uninstall button... I decided to go to safe mode.Safe mode doesn't work without a usable Operating System... I couldn't use F11 either to restore the computer. I decided to get a recovery disc. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the disc. Maybe it didn't even came with the box... I got my hands on 5 disc that said it could restore Windows 7. I booted the computer with the first CD. Okay, the disc has deleted everything including Untangle so that was no longer a problem. The computer then prompted to insert Disc 2. I did, however it wasn't working. It kept ejecting the disc out! I removed the disc and was left with no choice but to restart it. Now, the computer no longer asks me to set up Untangle. It's gone. Now all I see... Read more

Answer:Windows 7 Operating system deleted.

I would suggest trying to obtain OS recovery media for your computer.
Go to the HP support website...
HP Support & Drivers | United States
The key is to start with the correct model number
then click Software and Driver Downloads,

On the next page, you're asked to select an operating system.
The Recovery Media link in the results list is only available if you select the Windows version your computer originally came with.

If you don't see a "Recovery Media" section, HP advises you to "make sure you are on the correct model number page and select another operating system."

If HP No longer has the recovery media for your system,
THEN, I might suggest going to MicroCenter or NewEgg for a copy of Win7.

I am getting the "Missing Operating System" message on boot. Here is the strange thing...if I change the boot order in the BIOS and have CDROM first and choose not to boot off of it Windows 7 loads fine. If I put HARDDISK first then I get the missing operating system message. I have tried running CHKDSK, BOOTREC and the plain old Windows repair util. None of them have worked.

Anyone have any ideas?

Answer:Missing Operating System Windows 7

Hi kansasjhawk and welcome to Windows 7 Forums

That's a strange one.

Normally, if you have a bootable OS disk in the drive, and the drive is higher up in the boot order set in the BIOS than the HDD, then a message will appear asking if you want to boot from the drive, and to press any key if you do, failing which booting will continue with the next device in the boot order. The actual order doesn't matter normally, unless you specifically need to boot from floppy or CD/DVD.

Just out of interest, what interface do your HDD and optical drive use (PATA/IDE or SATA)?

Hi all, completely new to this forum, registered purely because of the problem in the title.
I'm an every day home user and not that experienced with advanced IT stuff although I do know more than your average home user.
Now, to the problem.
I was using my Sony vaio laptop (CW series bought in November 2009) as usual about 4 hours ago, when the HDD appeared to make a strange beep/clicking sound, and my computer completely froze up. In a state of slight panic, I held down the power button and forced my computer to shut down.
Upon restarting, the vaio logo appeared, the screen went blank and the message 'operating system not found' was displayed.
I turned the laptop off via the power button again, left it for a minute and then switched it back on. I had the same result.
After searching the net on the family computer I discovered that checking the the BIOS may be the the next logical step. What I have gathered from the vaio's BIOS is that my HDD is listed as having '0GB' memory. I have also checked the boot priorities (?) and hard drive is listed as priority one as the net page suggested it should be.

My specs are:
Sony vaio vpccw1
Intel core 2 dual core possessor (2.8GHz roughly)
4GB of RAM
320 GB HDD
(I don't know how much of this is relevant!)

I do have recovery DVDs that I created when I first got the vaio.
I also have a Windows back up on a portable hard drive from April this year (but obviously I would like to retrieve the files I have saved since then... Read more

I?m running windows 7 on a Sony Vaio VGN FZ140e.. For the past few weeks I?ve heard beeps from my computer and it crashed (blue screen) once.. these did not happen often so I figured they weren?t much on an issue... Today when I turned it on I got a message "Operating System Not Found". It will not boot.. I?ve tried inserting the windows 7 disc to try the repair option but when I boot from disk it says "loading windows files" at the bottom and goes straight to the starting windows screen where it freezes rather than to a point where I have an option to install or repair. I have tried going into the BIOS and moving boot from disc up and then back to defaults.. I?m not sure if my hard drive went bad or if something else is keeping my laptop from booting because it appears from the BIOS that the computer does recognize that a hard drive is connected (says memory 200GB or whatever). Can anyone point me in the right direction please? Should I order a new hard drive and start over or are there still other options to rescue my files?

Okay, I started off with a virus that corrupted my registry and operating system.  The virus has been handled and there are no traces of it but it has left its lasting effect on my computer.  I can not install some programs without it freezing my computer.  (Example:  Norton Antivirus, it will freeze as soon as it starts installing around 20%)  I have been in the virus section for the last 2 weeks and they asked me to post here as there are corrupted registry files but he could not tell me which ones were corrupt or missing as well as possible operating system problems???  I am able to install things like Farbar, ESet antivirus installed properly, tdsskiller, but other programs like adobe , Norton, etc freeze my computer everytime.

I had hoped that I could find a common denominator and suggest your reinstall a .net but all we found is the entries in the registry. No reference to what is missing or corrupted.
This is not malware and not my forte.
I suggest you start a new topic in the Windows 7 forum. An expert with that operating system may be able to your better than I can.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/167/windows-7/

Answer:A Operating system besides Windows or Linux??

You cannot legally install Mac OS X on any non-Mac hardware. There are a wide variety of other operating systems out there such as the BSD family (FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, etc.), Haiku (which is a derivative of the BeOS model as I understand it), and several others with niche userbases.

If you have a genuine product key you can download this MS Tool which allows you to download an iso of any version of Windows.
www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/microsoftwindowsisodownloadtool.html
Download the correct iso and burn it to a DVD disk or USB stick. You can use a disk burning program such a CDBurnerXP to do this as the iso needs to be decompressed as it is burned. (You probably need to get a friend to do this for you if you if you don't have a second working computer yourself)

Hey all,

I recently had Fedora and Windows 7 dual booting on my PC and decided to get rid of the Fedora and go with just Windows 7.

I reformatted the Fedora partition in disk management and everything was fine until I rebooted.

Now I get a Missing Operating System message and cannot boot into Windows.
I know which partition the OS is on, I can access if from the command prompt after booting to the Win7 disk and going that route.

Do I need to get to the boot.ini file and see what it says? I tried looking for it, but couldn't find it.

Any other suggestions?

As long as the Product Key on the COA sticker is still readable you can use the latest Win7 installer with SP1 for your licensed version provided here to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

Pay close attention to how drivers are handled in Win7 and the Special Note for Dell Owners at the end of the tutorial. I would run the Delll bootable Diagnostics now to check over the hardware first, then if it runs only save that partition since Recovery won't run after reinstall. Dell Diagnostics Utility - How to Run the . If Diagnostics won't run the delete all partitions during the install.

Ask back any questons you have.

Hi,

I have come here again with my concerns. As mentioned earlier, I am a novice at operating systems and I do home-based work. Now, I have a few issues that are affecting my work. My system has been rehauled twice up to now because of some virus problem or some other issues. I am unable to do my work efficiently. My system keeps on restarting every 2 to 5 minutes after I login to do my work. This is time consuming and affecting my work very badly as I am unable to meet the deadline. I am spending the whole day at work and the system shuts down by itself and restarts. This happens quite a few times when actually I should be finishing my work in a few hours, approximately 6 to 8 hours of work. Hope you can help me find a solution to my problems with the system.

Appreciate your help.

Well windows 7 was working sweet last night.
Today I opened a folder with some videos in it, left the room but when I came back in all I saw on my laptop was a black screen which read something like "No operating system detected" .
I restarted and had the same problem , so I put in a usb stick with windows 7 and started the setup.
Setup could not detect my hard drive :/ and now when I boot up it just gets stuck on the "Fujitsu Siemens loading screen" ......
Anyone got any suggestions?
Thanks

PROBLEM SOLVED bios was configuring hard drives as IDE instead of RAID.
So yesterday my computer worked, I turned it off last night and let it install updates (12 of them to be exact). This morning, lo and behold when I turned it on it posted and then said something along the lines of "no operating system found." It also won't give me the option of pressing ctrl +i to configure RAID, it just jumps straight to the no os found message. I managed to get it to boot from the windows 7 disc, but it can't seem to find my installation of windows 7. When I go into bios setup it still detects all 3 of my hard drives so I don't think that one of those died. Is it possible that one of those stupid updates killed windows?

Right now i've got it running startup repair, but it never actually found my install of windows, so I don't know what it's going to accomplish.

Here's hoping that we can get this resolved.

Edit: It actually says "Missing operating system."
Also, i'm not sure that it is actually posting. First screen is an ASUS p5q pro screen that says press del for setup. Then I get a black screen that says initializing, which then states that No Hard disc was detected or found or something, jumps back to the Asus screen, and then back to a black screen that says Missing operating system.

Answer:Windows 7 No Operating System Found

You may be able to use BootRec to fix things. I rebuilt the BCD and MBR when I had a "no OS found" and even though ScanOs found nothing, the computer booted after that. Very weird, but hey it worked so I'll take it.

Does anyone have a good and comprehensive guide to re-installing Windows XP Home Edition from scratch? My PC has become unbelievable slow and in spite of all that I have tried in the last few months to fix it, nothing has worked. I have come to the conclusion to re-install and really CLEAN my computer so it will perform as it should. I have saved all documents and made a list of all the software installed to make the process easier.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!!!!!

When I tried using acronis it said it could not be used because of "Windows Dynamic Disks EZ- Drives Etc" Any other way to save the operating system?
Thanks

Answer:how to back up windows 8 operating system

Acronis 9.0 is pretty old. Try using Macrium Reflect Free available at MG's.

Remember to create the Rescue Media Disk.

Well I decided to build a computer because it was on my bucket list. I probably got a little deeper than my talent. Someone at the store said I could get some more performance using an SSD for the operationg system. I put the computer together and everything booted the first time. Imagine that. So than I rebooted loading Windows7 to the SSD. I had not downloaded and new drivers; however, good ole MS loaded some 54 updates.

I started tweaking files, moved temp and tmp to HDD and other items relative to using an SSD for OS and program files. Everything was fine, than, I come back to the machine and it says that it cannot boot. Tried repairing, no luck. Then I found a restore point and restored successfully. Windows says it has some updates to do and I said remind me in 4 hours. Came back to do some more stuff in 30 minutes and had the same message about booting, so I guess Windows just did the updates anyway. This time I was not able to repair or restore successfully. The diagnostic message said my Windows was on Drive E, which is the HDD.

Browsed the forums and decided that I would do a "Clean All" from the "Diskpart" command. Then reinstall Windows7 from the original MS installation disk. It seemed to me that I should be back to where is was when I originally installed Wins7. There are probably other things happening in the original install that I am not aware. But generally, if you get back to square one, you can re-install?

I have a HP Pavilion 7dv that was working fine for a few years. Then one day it shut down and when I restarted it the computer asks for a startup password.  I have researched online to find passwords and have used a variety of ones I have found and nothing works.  It always loops back to the blue screen that says "Automatic Repair" - your PC did not start correctly.  I have the option of restarting or using advanced options.  Either way, when I try to fix the problem it always goes to a black screen that asks for the startup password.  I cant seem to get past that page.  If anyone could give me a way to enter a passcode or work around that would be great.  Thank you

Something "simple" -- put a different disk-drive into the computer, and try again. You might have a "bad" disk-drive.
