generic host error|windows update error|safemode BSOD

Question: generic host error|windows update error|safemode BSOD

Hiya, this problem started when I encountered "generic host process for win32 services has encountered a problem and needs to close". I figured I could have a virus or something, so I rebooted to run some scans in safe mode. Problem is, when I attempted to go into safe mode, it flashed the blue screen and reset.
Also this happens when I try and disable auto reset on BSOD ( so I just don't change it)
"-System control panel applet- if the page file on volume C: has an initial size of less then 0 megabytes, then the system may not be able to create a debugging information file if a STOP error occurs. Continue anyways?"

After the reset, I was given 2 options I haven't seen before:
"Windows XP professional" -> everything starts normally
and
"Windows (default)" -> gives me a "hal.dll is corrupted" error

I did my scans on normal windows (since safemode is giving me BSOD) and I didn't find any viruses/mal/spyware.
I used these for scanning: Microsoft security essentials, malwarebytes, and spybot.

After some google searches, I tried to update windows via ***www.\/\/indowsupdate.com but recieved an error message like I didn't have the internet. I read somewhere to add it to the "trusted websites" and I did, but didn't change anything.
Also from the searches, I was redirected a few times, so I think I have the google redirect virus.
*** Whenever I have this url spelt correctly, I recieve a "cannot access remote server" error on posting/previewing thread.

Help please?

Preferred Solution: generic host error|windows update error|safemode BSOD

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I can't access Windows update. I get this error message: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". Is malware blocking access? I ran Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, but it found nothing. Please help so I can access Windows update again.

I also get this pop up error message periodically: "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services". My internet connection then cuts off & I can only reconnect by restarting the computer. I don't know what to do & it's very frustrating. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated please. Thanks very much.

Here's about all the information I can think of, hopefully one of the experts here can help me out... If I've done anything wrong so far, please let me know as I would love to learn. I apologize if this post belongs in the Virus/Malware section.

So a few days ago, the Anti-Malware Doctor infection popped up on my computer. As I've dealt with similar infections in the past, my knee-jerk reaction was to google removal information.

First attempt - Found a short list of associated files & registries online, and deleted them manually. I can't remember the exact outcome, but I still had some problems/symptoms, so I restored all of the deleted files & registries.

Second attempt - Downloaded and installed Malwarebytes + RKill, but couldn't get MWB to update at all. A MWB scan in Safe Mode found and deleted 2 or 3 Anti-Malware Doctor files along with a few Trojans. After restarting my computer as part of the removal process I ran another MWB scan out of safe mode, which found and deleted 2 more Doctor files.

After restarting the computer again, my wireless internet was not working, so I played around with what little I know about the command prompt (pinging, ipconfig, that kind of stuff). After many hours without success, I managed to get a friend to come over and fix that problem (something to do with DNS servers disappearing), as well as bring a fully updated MWB over on a flash drive. A third MWB scan found and deleted numerous infected files (I can't remember what exac... Read more

I'm getting the Generic Host Process error since i have win xp sp3 (since a week). I just tried to install the KB894391 (i've found at some sites that this resolves the problem), but SP3 didn't let me to do it.

When I start my computer appears the generic host process error after a time, and it's so nerve-racking because after that message, I'm "losing" my sound device.

I've tried to clean it with Dr.Web's Cure It, some Kaspersky Malware Removal tool (klwk), Microsoft Malware Removal tool (windows-kb890830-v2.6), because it appears after a time when I start my computer.

I posted this earlier but reposted this and erased the old thread because I have more information now and have narrowed down the problem (I hope).

This problem just happened yesterday after I had to manually shut down (used power button) my computer after it froze. Now when I try to load up IE, it "halfway" opens up (you can see parts of the interface) and just freezes. I thought maybe it was an IE problem, but if I try to load up Firefox (even without loading up IE first), nothing happens -- it won't load. I load up the Task Manager and firefox.exe is there as a process even though it hasn't loaded. The only way I did figure out to surf the net is to load up "My Computer" and enter a web address from there manually. But even when I do that, if I click on any link that opens up a new window, IE will try loading that new window up which freezes. Right after this happened, I get a "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Error" (still do every now and then. I also d/l'd the "patch" for this from Microsoft's website to no avail) which says something about svchost.exe and some other exe's. I think it has something to do with networking because I loaded up "Event Viewer" from the Control Panel and I managed to track down the error I get *each* time my computer starts up These errors I get are *all* dated right after I had to manually shutdown the computer and when the problems began. Here it is:

My dad recently got me a new hard drive which unfortunately crashed. I put my old hard drive back in and immediately received the AXWIN Frame Window: svchost.exe - Application Error. Under the title it says: the instruction at "0x02baf7a0" referenced memory at "0x02baf7a0". The memory could not be "written". It then gives you the option to terminate or debug, both result in the computer rebooting after a countdown. Upon the restart the computer shows the generic host process win32 message that says this process was closed. After having the computer back up for about 5 minutes the AXWIN error comes back and the process will repeat itself if you respond to the error. If you leave the window up you can continue using the computer with no visible problem. When using google or yahoo searches: clicking a search result's link will redirect me back to google.com after momentarily skipping over another random website. Over the past few weeks now my computer has been running very slow. I contacted a "tech guy" thinking I needed more space on my computer, i.e. hard drive and memory, (after seeing several pop up messages about virtual memory low). I might add that I assumed virtual memory was the same as any other computer memory. Well, the guy told me I had some viruses on my PC. Hmm, I thought. I was pretty sure I didn't have any VIRUSES. Back in Feb/March, or so, I had several computer viruses that Bleepingcomputer.com helped me removed. I also updated my computer with Bit Defender 2008 total security and was pretty certain I did not have any new viruses. None-the-less, the techie said he added a new hard drive to the same PC tower (making the PC a dual hard drive system - the newer one with faster performance) - and keep the old slow drive as-is. I figured he wasn't skilled enough to fix the original problem. No worries, I imagined, as long as I could still use the old slow hard drive as before. All work and programs are still on the old hard drive - which I really, really need. He also moved my external hard drive files, which was located on old hard drive (F:) and move it to old hard drive (G:) location. He added new or copied files to the old (G:) location. I'm not sure how this affected the programs. Most programs can't find the files any longer. ________________________________________________________First problem I noticed was the inability to send emails. ... Read more

Answer:Generic Host Process For Win32 & Windows Installer 3.1 Error Messages

Well...often (IMO) a virus or whatever can be removed...but still negatively impact future performances of typical O/S functions.

Files could have been damaged by the malware or during the removal of the malware...or, really, any time.

Did you do a repair install or a clean install of XP after this known malware problem?

Did the person...do anything to remove the newly found viruses?

FWIW: I don't think I know of anyone who has had one known malware problem only. If it happens once, it seems to happen more than just a single instance.

My antivirus software ran out so i updated to notron internet security 2007 with basic system works. At the same time i renewed my spydoctor subscription.

Since then i have been getting an error on start up after having shut down overnight and restarted the following evening.

Message reads: Generic host process has encountered an error needs to close

I have also had svchost.exe error at the same time.

Here is the error signature

Also on shut down was told Nvidia twinview mirror was not responding. This shut down prob happened twice and so far has not re occurred.

Was told once that norton had closed/blocked generic host process. This message did not reappear but i allowed all generic host processes in firewall but has not removed the error.

Microsoft error reporting told me i had an unknown driver error. Have updated my Nvidia graphics driver. To no avail.

Cant find any virus with norton. All i did was install it then shut down comp next day error appears so i dont think it is a virus.

Comp does not seem to be any slower and no probs with any applications as far as i can tell.

It's just really really annoying.

Have googled the problem but no help. Have all the latest microsoft updates as far as i can tell, as auto update on.

Answer:Generic Host Process windows 32 error after updating to Norton 2007

making a little progress,

a) have disabled dep settings for generic host processes which has removed the annoying start up message. Not really a solution but it will do for now.

b) Also have discovered that if i disable the advanced features in nvidia nview desktop properties twin view window not responding message goes away.

c) spyware doctor onguard is interfering with nvidia advanced features. if i disable onguard i can have nview advanced features on and no problem with twinview not shutting down. Have tried putting nvidia exe programs in the exclusion list for spyware doctor but this did not help.

Any suggestions as how i can get spyware doctor to stop blocking nvidia advanced features??

And does this problem have anything to do with the generic host process win32 that will not respond at start up? Is spyware doctor blocking them both and if so how do i stop it from doing so?

Had no problem with spyware doctor before i re-newed it. Is the best idea to uninstall and reinstall spyware doctor. I have a backup Cd but i am not sure i know what the serial is.

Since late last night, I've been getting a Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Error pop-up after about a half hour of browsing the Internet. Originally, if I ignored it or clicked "Do Not Send" (as it appeared as an error report message), my Internet would stop working until I rebooted. However that quickly went away, and was replaced by instead changing my taskbar to a strange, low-resolution version. This still happens, but it corrects itself over time if not instantly. After I received the pop-up while using IE, I would intermittently be either redirected to a random website, or a new tab would open with the website instead. I didn't write down the names of these sites as I simply closed the tabs when they opened to prevent them from loading completely. But, after an hour or so of using Internet Explorer, it began crashing after a few seconds of being run. EDIT: DDS report keeps getting cut off for some reason... Guess that the DDS is too big? I have already started a topic about the preliminary observations made for this error here:My Original Error Topic Link HereThere are total of 2 posts by me there. Because I was asked to post log details for malware examination here so I have started this topic.I was asked there to follow basic malware removal steps from step 6 onwards. There were a couple of hiccups when doing those procedures but I think they were mainly due to high processor usage leading once to Hanging Up of computer (perhaps due to processor going into some sort of infinite loop and I had to hard-restart) and then a Blue Screen of Death both while running DDS. But I don't suspect malware activity here(about the DDS thing) as my PC has a habit of crashing occasionally when processor fluctuates too much or sometimes it used to do so with PFNList corrupt indicating some RAM problem (My earlier RAM of 1 GB was recently proving to be too inadequate, however now I have upgraded it to 2 GB). I suggest that you read my original topic(2 posts by me 1 reply by Broni as of now) from above link and tell me how to get rid of this error as well as the Google Update services.Nevertheless I was able to complete the entire procedure and here are the logs :(DDS.txt pasted here as required and Attach.txt and ark.txt attached) DDS.txt.DDS (Ver_2011-08-26.01) - NTFSx86 Internet Explorer: 8.0.6001.18702 BrowserJavaVersion: 10.2.1Run by Owner at 1:21:01 on 2012-01-02Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.103... I've read all previous posts about this error and still can't resolve it.

The message is "Generic Host Process for Win 32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close." At first I was getting it only after signing on to the internet; and it always resulted in being knocked offline and having to restart. After restarting, I usually had no sound, but otherwise could continue. Now I am getting the message on startup and getting additional "svchost.exe" errors while attempting to get online.

I tried manually updating Windows and turning off automatic updates but no help.

I have an HP Media Center PC with Win XP with SP2. I am using Norton antivirus, Ad-Aware SE Personal, and Spybot S & D. All are updated and scans have been run.

I have only been using the Norton for about a month. Before I had used AVG Free and was trouble-free until I began having difficulty getting their updates and had to make a change. I am always suspicious of Norton when there is trouble, but don't know if it could be involved in this.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. (I'm a Grandma and not a geek, so be gentle.)

First of all, Thanks Bleeping Computer for all the help I've gotten in the past.

Now on to the MAIN ISSUE.
I've got an aging Toshiba Satellite laptop with a few weird problems. I somehow got the AntiVirus Soft Virus sometime last week. After removing it with Malwarebytes (Newest Version), I've been having a few issues. First, after I log in, the Generic Host Win 32 error comes up. A few minutes after that, my screen seems to refresh and the taskbar switches from XP style to Windows 2000 style, then back again. If I'm trying to use the web, the Generic Host error might come up every few minutes. Also, my internal speakers seem to be uninstalled and I can't figure out how.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Question: Generic host error

Recently I have been receiving the
"Generic host process error" on my x64 bit windows, Upon getting this error all NEW programs opened up do not play audio. I have been looking around and it seems the only way to fix this error is to get windows updates.
Now I do not wish to do this becuase everytime I have updated my x64 bit windows wierd things started happening such as hardware conflicts (blue screen would popup once in a while) and ventrillo would sign me out every 30 seconds, things like that.
So I am wondering if there is a standalone fix for the error, and could someone explain to me why the windows updates screw with my computer?

Answer:Generic host error

I am not sure which update it is that fixes this problem. But you are correct that it is a Windows thing. Wonder if you could download one update at a time and see what it is, then uninstall the others. Dunno.

We have a computer running Windows XP Pro Sp/2. We have just dumped the thing and run a full recovery. We are running a program that is for Radioshack, and it also runs pervasive. Whenever we get generic host32 errors we lose the connection to that xp computer. It's now worse than when we formatted it before, this has been an ongoing thing. We have installed some of the patches from Microsoft for that error and found a couple other patches.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this keeps cropping up?

Thanks.

Situation:

Within the last two days a seemingly random error has occured: some generic host process. I have two computers. One laptop and one desktop effected by this error. What they both have in common is that I recently updated windows with about 3 new patches. I also installed AviDemux and GIMP on both computers.

Programs effected:

IE, Opera, Outlook Express, StarCraft, and Yahoo messenger have all randomly crashed due to this "generic host process." They either crash immediately upon opening, or within seconds of useage.

Things looked at thus far:

I've done the obvious thing including virus scan, but found no infections. I've also looked at "msconfig" at the startup for any suspicious items, but found nothing suspicious there. My event viewer shows errors for fault bucket and internet explorer.

What I've done:

I tried to uninstall some of these windows patches on my desktop, but I still get the error messages. I also tried installing a patch specifically for generic host process (KB894391), but it didn't solve my problem.

Further Detail about the computers in question:

One uses an AMD Phenom X3, a new build as of January. New PSU, RAM, Video Card; a very stable system with no crashes/restarts.

The laptop is an Inspiron 700m with a centrino processor, it's old, but it's been stable with no serious problems over the years.

Now, one piece of advice that applies equally to AVs and firewalls. You only need one of each! Having more than one firewall and AV can cause possible conflicts and system instability. Although you may think you have more protection by having more than one of each, it could cause you problems you were not expecting.

PC Safety and Security--What Do I Need?

It is ok to have more than one antivirus/antispyware software program on your machine for one time scanning but you should make sure that only one of each has realtime protection running. It is never a good idea to have more than one firewall.

Also i would like to see the error message exactly as it appears on your screen as that in itself may provide clues as to the cause of your problem.

my laptop recently returned from repair and since then two probs occur. if auto updates is on then repeated "automatic updates has encountered a problem" errors come up. also now when I try to play anything on Mediaplayer it will not play as it says there is a problem with my sound card (there does not seem to be anything wrong with the card - sound works with itunes) - also generic host process error occurs when I try to add or remove winows components (ie i can't reinstall media player).I've tried removal of sasser/blaster, removal of spyware, virus scans including stinger, i don't have hp drivers installed (although this may have been installed when a printer test was run on the system by repair company - don't appear to be installed now)Help! XP home SP2 (was running sp2 ok - also generic host error if i try to remove sp2 update!)

I don't know hwats going on but for the last couple weeks I was getting this win32 generic host error whenever my firewall was off. I've had and removed rpcc.dll, had host and id keys added in my registry and had my audio device tabs greyed out over and over and not been able to turn the windows firewall back on. It doesnt seem to matter how much I clean. It always comes back and I still dont know what the cause of all these problems is. I also can't view the contentIE5 folder unless I type in the full path. Today I bought a brand new pc and I've been installing programs all evening. I grabbed a few things off the old computer that I needed and also turned the xp firewall off for a while when I was having some network trouble. A while later I get the win32 generic host error!!! I tried to watch a video and noticed my sound wasnt working so I look in the audio device tab and everything is greyed out. Tried to turn the firewall back on and cant. THis is a brand new computer!!!!!! Is this some kind of worm or something? I cant find anything in the registry. This just doesnt make any sense!
Here's a log for whatever it's worth.

Hello this is my first post to this site, however I have often come here for advice on malware removal. I have a problem with an error message coming up after spending a period of time on the internet in which it states that Generic Host Win 32 has encountered an error and needs to close. Once it does my entire lower toolbar locks up and the internet becomes inactive because I cant go to any more tabs or change the web address. I have to hard boot my computer to even be able to use my computer again. I have had a few malwares on this computer recently and have removed them using Norton anti-virus and Malwarbytes software and I'm wondering if something may have gotten messed up when that occured. I'd appreciate the help.

You could try this...Get your WinXP CD handy, then go to Start>Run and type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes..YOu won't get any reports or anything, but scanner will repir and replace any damage/corrupted files etc...Oh and welcome to the forum, always a nice way to start...

Generic Host Process for WIN32 Services has encountered a problem and needs
to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Seems many people are getting this error message. I've seen that both audio
drivers and HP drivers may be to blame. Seen solutions for WIA and DEP
changes and also to download the latest .NET framework.

Error occurs for me after reboot (always) typically accompanied by a "Error
The instruction at "xxxxxxxx" referenced memory at "xxxxxxxxx". The memory
could not be read. Click on OK to terminate the program.
Printer (HP) wont work, and audio is inop about 50% of the time.

Seems to have started happening to a lot of people (me included) around
mid-late Nov 04.

Anyone have a good solution? I already tried the MS KB article in this topic
and HP printers - that solved the problem until a restart or reboot - then it
was back again. I've heard svchost might be blocked by a firewall, or that
it could be a worm, or that dll's are corrupt/missing.
Error signature:

I'm new to the thread and any help would be greatly appreciated. After starting up the computer I get a generic host system32 error stating svchost.exe.hdmp & svchost.exe.mdmp have problems. After I click OK I lose system sounds and sound on the internet but I still have sound in Windows Media Player. I have looked at other threads and they say that scvhost.exe.mdmp is malware, is this what could be happening to my computer?

I have windows xp sp2

Ok ill go into as much detail as possible. Yesterday when i swiched my computer on, as it was booting I saw for the first time a strange new error.

Data Execution Prevention
To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program.
Name: Generic Host Process for Win32 Service
Publisher: Microsoft Corporation

Then 2 seconds later

Generic Host Process for Win32 Service has encounterd a problem and needs to close.

So I go ahead an close it but now firefox will not open up anymore I keep trying to open it and all of a sudden the wierdist thing happends. My taskbar and window borders swich to classic mode! the old gray box's and taskbar! Also i cannot click on anything on the taskbar its locked up, i wait 2 mins and it reverts back to the windows xp borders and styles. I can also use the taskbar and i can click on whatever is on there again, only now my sound has stopped working! i cant play any music or watch any movies!

This happeds everytime WITHOUT fail when i boot my computer, so i have to use EI6 (which I hate) I tryed the windows hotfix update for generic host error and that did nothing, I have scanned with AVG, Spybot and malware's antispyware and they havent fixed anything. I have also ran scandisk and its turned up nothing.... I dont know what else to do besides ask for help... Ill be posting a hyjackthis log on here in my next post ina few mins. I also have a Combofix log if anyone requests it.

Please help me.

Hi, I recently had to replace my motherboard and cpu, in doing so I reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled Window XP Pro with SP2. I have upgraded all my drivers and everything was working fine until today I got an error message "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services" has cuased an error and needs to shut down. I then lose my internet connection even though it shows that I am still connected. I can only restart my computer to be able to access anything. My system performed and virus scan thismorning before this all happened. I use AVG free edition with the lastest update. I was hopin someone could help with this very frustrating problem.

Thank you

Answer:Generic Host Process Error

Hi and welcome to Major Geeks. Someone here should be able to help, if I can't, due to my craving of CIV4: Warlords....

Click START, then RUN, then type in: msconfig (press enter).
Click the radial button "selective startup".
Uncheck "Load startup Items".

Press OK. Yes to reboot. Does it work now? If so, then you have a item that is loading that is causing you issues.

If not, go back into msconfig and click the services tab. Click the box "Hide MS services", then click the button uncheck all. Press ok, then yes to reboot. Still having issues?

Note, this is a temp fix only. One needs to narrow down what is causing your issue. Also, if you can't do this in normal mode, you need to do this in safe mode.

I left for lunch and came back and my pc had rebooted and was stuck on the Windows XP Pro splash screen.

Now my pc is giving me this error everytime I boot into Windows:

Generic Host Process Win32 error.

Anyone got any clue what might be causing this.

I changed out motherboards Monday, but my pc has been working fine. I had a Gigabyte K8NS Pro 754 board with the Nforce 3 chipset and I put in a Gigabyte K8NSNXP-939 with the Nforce 3 chipset. So, really didn't change much...Windows detected the new board and all. The new board was OEM and I had no drivers. I did download the drivers from Gigabyte and installed them.

I also have a couple of errors showing up in the Device Manager. One is for my second printer and one is just called UNKNOWN.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

So, my computer gets this error about every hour or so(been half a year now I think) while I'm online. It says:"Generic Host Process for Win32 Serviced had encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."...and after I do/don't send error report, it won't let me do anything online (browse the web, chat, etc.). It says I'm still online and I can't disconnect, and in order to disconnect and have my internet work again I have to restart my computer. I also wasn't sure if I should post this under Internet Explorer help  since it has to do with my internet, but it also effects my compter, so sorry if it's at the wrong place.I'm don't know a whole lot about computers, especially finding out my OS and crap, but from looking at everyone else's I'm assuming this is the info (let you know I'm just listing randoms, sorry if theres too much info or not enough/helpful info ):Intel Pro 10/100 LAN, 340 intel celeron D processor 340, 80GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive, DVD+/-RW 16x double layer multiformat DVDRW, 512 MB DDR SDRAM, 2.93 GHz, 256K L2 cache, 533 MHz FSB, media reader 8 in 1, 5 USB ports, 56k ITU v.92 somethingsomething...

i keep getting an error window that says generic host has encountered a problem and must close now. this shuts down my dial up internet connection and i have to restart the computer in order to get back online. at one point i was able to get it to tell me it was error 128. i searched ms for that but got some odbc clock nonsense (well, just nonsense to me because i am not that computer literate). I am running windows xp on a toshiba satellite 1005-s157 that is approximately 5 years old. this just started happening about 10 days ago. i set restore back to november 1 to no avail. i did have ev1 isp service which was supposed to be switching over to peoplepc but i never got their download and, after dealing with their customer noservice department for six days, i ended up just switching to basicisp for my connection. any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi, please help me, its has started to really annoy me now, here is the problem.

Everytime i start my computer up, it becomes slow and unresponsive and after a few minutes, an error message appears:

svchost.exe - application error
the instruction at "0x77f57bd2" referenced memory at "0x00000010". the memory could not be "read" . ok, to terminate, cancel to debug.

Straight after that another one appears:

Generic Host Processfor Win32 serviceshas encountered a problem...options to send error report, debug...

When i close these two down, the computer becomes unresponsive and wont even shutdownor restart properly, just stuck on a empty screen with just my wallpaper. explorer.exe and "THOR MAIN WINDOW" has to be ended cause they are running. But after that it just seems to do nothing.

If i dont close the two error boxes, everything seems to run fine, like normal but with two annoying things obscuring objects.

The problem only seems to occur when i am connected to my cable modem. Once disconnected from the modem, the error message does not appear but connected once more, its comes back, exactly the same way.

Please help!

For the past couple of weeks I've been getting a "Generic Host Process Error" almost every time I use my computer. It happens at random times, but usually the computer freezes and I have to shut down via the power button within about 10 minutes.

I've read that this might have something to do with certain windows updates, but I cannot go to any of the windows update sites. When I try in Firefox, it just reloads the current page, and when I try in IE, it gives me a blank page as if I'm not connected to the internet. I've tried it in safe mode and get the same thing.

Some of the only good references I can find to this say it has something to do with SP2, but I have SP3. I don't know if the two problems are related or not but I started noticing the most problems when I installed MCafee Total Protection 2010. I can scan and scan and scan with this and don't get any viruses popping up, but I feel that it's somehow related.

Any thoughts?

I suspect malware...I'm moving this to the Am I Infected forum for a look by someone more knowledgeable about such.

I had a virus (fake anti spyware) a few weeks ago. Finally got rid of it by removing in safe mode with spybot, superantispyware, malwarebytes and cleaning out startup programs in msconfig. However, every since then, about 20-30 minutes after I log in to my computer I get a popup error "Genric Host Process for Win32 Services encountered a problem and needs to close." Once that hits I have no internet connection, cannot open IE, and eventually cannot do anything. I also am unable to shut down. Start, CTL+Start, CTL+ALT+DELETE are all unresponsive. The only way to get out is to pull the plug. Once I restart I get the Win32 Services error almost immediately.

After a day or two of this I also started getting this error: "The instruction at 0x001a3b41 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be 'read'." I had ran MB and Spybot again so maybe I cleaned out something I shouldn't have. In any event I tried system restore, and all the anti malware I know. I also ATF cleaner and a few miscellaneous fixes I found on similar posts but nothing stops this error from disabling my computer. My theory is there is still some remnant of the malware trying to activate or get to the internet and slowing, and eventally stopping, everything else while it does. I can't see it thought and everythign in msconfig appears legit. Any ideas how to get around this other than completely wiping and reinstalling Windows? I have checked dozens of posts for this ... I repeatedly get this error message and the effects are random. Sometimes I can keep using my computer for a while, other times it immediately freezes up and I have to shut it off. At times my computer is fine for hours. Or it might happen every few minutes.

I tried going through all the steps and scans before I posted. When I got to step 3 with the GMER it would scan for a few minutes and then crash my computer, causing it to restart. So I couldn't finish the scan.

I operate on XP and a few days ago, the automatic updates ran. Now whenever the computer has been on for more than and hour, a box pops up that says Generic Host Win32 SVC has encountered a problem and needs to close. When this happens, the internet goes down and the laptop speaker no longer work. I have run my virus scan, deleted all internet files, did a disk cleanup & defrag and it's still coming up. How do I fix this?? Please help!!

Answer:Generic Host Win32 SVC error

Hi Kmcorbett879,

Which service pack are you running on XP? I think you're on XP SP2. If so, looks to me like you need the ' Update for Windows XP (KB894391)' to resolve this.

Can you confirm if you have already patched this?

Generic Host Process error. The error pops up about 5 minutes after I boot up windows/log in to a profile. After the error few programs work properly, and the computer runs really slow. I had more information until my computer froze... I'm in safe mode right now. Anyone know what the problem might be? I've ran norton anti-virus, spybot, and adaware all with the latest updates and nothing came up.

It would seem now these days that whenever I boot up my computer, I will be met with this Windows Error. By which my sound won't work, some program windows will appear in the style of "Classic", and my internet connection isn't there. Forcing me to reboot several times until the error does not appear on that particular boot.

I am providing this log, which appears to be fine. Perhaps one of the more experienced users can pick out a bug I can't recognize

Answer:Generic host error win32

First thing I'd wonder about is your drivers, particularly the LAN card drivers. Check Device Manager/Hardware and look for yellow or red-flagged devices, particularly those relating to network.

The 15 minute working period is odd. Usually when something works for a while and then dies I wonder about heat (the time it takes for something to get too hot & stop working), however I can't think of how that would relate to the network as those components don't generate much heat to speak of.

Also, it could be your (I assume) cable modem. Please describe how you connect to the internet. (internal or external modem, DSL or cable connection, etc....)

Also, check Administrative Tools/Event Viewer/System (and also) Application and look for red-flagged error messages that happen at about the time of the crash (or just prior) that may be related to your internet connection in some way.

Report any possibly useful information here for further analysis.

(I have read all administration threads, but not sure if I have posted this info in the wrong forum.)
My pc is windows xp, sp2. I have a few problems with my pc. My son downloaded some games offline recently, then the worst problems started. I get a Generic Host Process for Windows 32 Services error popping up when I reboot pc, and the speakers have stopped working-no sound.( possibly related)? I don't know if my pc has malware or its been hijacked. Also, when I try to turn on windows firewall I get a a popup : windows cannot start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing Service. I also get popups repeatedly that says my virtual memory is slow and pc is attempting to fix. Sims City Game is downloaded plus I believe a couple of other games, if you think the games are taking up to much space, I can uninstall them.

I would appreciate any help, thank you so much.

Hi there,

Yesterday I booted up my sister comp and after about a couple minutes of surfing on the net, my connection stalled and I got a popup saying

"Win32 Generic Host encountered an unexpected error."

Then my browser freezes and my internet connection dies. I opened up taskmanger and I realized a couple of strange process running. I did a background check on some of them and got some mixed results.

These are the services that I did a background check and contain some sort of virus:
radprcmp.exe
clfdle.exe

OKay...before I get flamed I want to say YES I have searched for a solution abundantly on this site as well as the net. Absolutley nothing hase worked for me. Basically the problem, for those who don't know from the title, is suddenly when working on the net an error comes up svchost.exe - Application Error. This is followed by a Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Error. When I close these windows from time to time it will give a message which gives me 59? secs until it restarts. Here are screenshots:1 2 3 I have done the following:- Used Spybot, Ad-Aware, Spy Bot, Avast!, & True Sword with latest updates.- Closed ports with Windows Worms Door Cleaner- Updated with the Microsoft patches suggested from other forums/sites- Uninstalled HP printer driver (dont use the printer so havnt reinstalled yet)I understand that: - Spyware can mirror as svchost.exe (I have 7 running in the task management but this is normal)- It could be a RAM or Video Card issue, but I highly doubt it and want another alternative- I work on a D-Link Router in my home however I have a firewall/NAT on as well as Windows Firewall and sheilds from antivirus so I cannot understand how worms get through...PLEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASEEEEE HELP ME!!!! I cannot find any further help on the net and this is actually the first time I say this!!!

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;821690

I've also been able to get online even with that service blocked by me using Sygate Firewall, so if you have a 'proper' firewall (not the inadequate Windows one), try permanently blocking it. If you don't allow Windows to use it it shouldn't cause the error, and, like I say, I can get online with it blocked.

Hi! I recently joined these forums to get help from an evil error >.> It states: Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close. Then it shows
szAppName: svchost.exe
szAppVer: 5.1.2600.2190
szModName: unknown
szModVer: 0.0.0.0
offset: 001a741c
I would like to get this fixed, it only happens when I run anything that is full-screen, mostly games.
Also, I found a few fixes but they all didn't work, but noticed that some of my services in services.msc get disabled, will list which ones get disabled if necessary. Thanks for the help!

Hi guys, Generic host error message is ruining my life, any ideas anyone please !!!!

Answer:generic host error message

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Error messages related to svchost.exe ( which is what Generic Host Process for Win32 Services is) are rarely malware issues. I suggest that you capture your exact word for word messages and post them in the Software Forum.

Otherwise if you wish to check for malware, the below is your next course of action.

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions. If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.

Hi guys,

I'm new here and not really too savvy with computers. My partner told me to get Hijack This and post the log after some weird stuff happen to my computer.
Basically it won't shut down correctly so always scans itself, then i get a generic win32 error. Also a while ago my sound stopped working, and my start icon went to windows 98. I have to work around the generic win32 error box as if i click on it my computer freezes. I have pasted my log from Hijack This, any help would much be appreciated as I am doing my final university essays and can't really afford to have my computer die on me .

Hey there,

Shortly after I start up my computer I get a "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services" error. Apparently it has encountered a problem and needs to close. When I click on the error report, I get the following:

szAppName : svchost.exe szAppVer : 5.1.2600.2180
szModName : ipnathlp.dll szModVer : 5.1.2600.2180 offset : 00021453

The following files are included with the error report:

C:\DOCUME~1\Benjamin\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER0183.dir00\svchost.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Benjamin\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER0183.dir00\appcompat.txt

Of course, when I send the error report I get no feedback from Microsoft. In addition to the error message my Windows Firewall will not work and the only sounds that will play are system sounds. I cannot play any other sounds on the system, not movies, not games, not music.

I've taken a pretty good look around and cannot seem to find anything helpful. I've run a AdAware Personal and Spybot to no avail.

Does anyone know what might be causing this error, or should I nuke it from orbit and reformat my machine?

Altough I use my WinXP PC daily I've just started to get an error message on log on to my User ID and several times each session. Message is "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close." On opening error report says "szAppName: svchost.exe szAppVer: 5.1.2600.0 szModName: ntdll.dll szModVer: 5.1.2600.1217 offset: 00044213."So far I've tried System Restore to a date before error notices began, run an up to date Norton Virus check, looked at MS Knowledgebase articles (that said a similar problem needed my HP printer drivers updated - so I did this), and looked at previous threads in this forum. However, no luck so far - can anyone help?

Answer:Generic Host Process Error

Try the system file checker:startrunsfc /scannowYou will need the XP CD.

After a few minutes I'm online I'll get the "generic host processes for win32" error and I'll lose my sound card driver. again, I'll have to restart the pc everytime I'll lose my sound card.

aside from this, my security center is disabled in startup. I know I can re-activate this by running "services.msc" in run command, but will I do this everytime I turn on my pc?

and what's worse is that my pc is newly formatted. before I reformat my pc I don't get any of these problems at all.

Answer:Generic host processes for win32 error

Maybe there was a problem when you were reformatting. You could possibly retry the process over if you haven't already.

Hi, I'm running windows XP media SP3, and I'm having issues with the pop up box "Generic Host Process Win 32. I can close out the shutdown process using shutdown -a, but the computer hang's up at some point. Cannot access task master. Cannot use system restore without locking up PC. Also, Windows PC shutdown doesn't always work.

I have used spybot, AVG 9.0, Microsoft scanner. All come up empty. Can anyone help me ID this issue?

Neofx did some wonderful things for me in November--cleared up a number of viruses...now it appears there back.

Any help much appreciated.

Answer:generic host processs error message

According to microsoft, this error occurs in windows XP sp2, if security update 873333 (MS05-012) had been installed.
Upgrading to XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) could easily fix this problem.

here i am again. needing bc's advice and guidance.

last two days my wife and i noticed the pc doesn't feel right. seems slower. a lotta little stuff is happening. IE boggs down and crashes (from top to bottom), desk top icons dissappear and then reappear. when we watch a clip on HGTV.com, windows media player comes up, IE crashes (as stated above), and system trey hidden icon button is gone, along with some icons. i close media player and IE just appears and functions but sys trey is still wierd.

when playing games on Yahoo, w/o active x, sounds go away, things get slow. i back out of game and reload, but no change.

im getting spam in email that i haven't seen in a month. obvious spam thats normally blocked.

zero pos on all security programs, save one. spybot hit on backweb lite, and has been doing so since a def dl about a week ago. the hit doesn't have the usual pre check in the box for backweb lite. spybot sez if i dont use the back web, dont be concerned. so i haven't removed the entry.
i have defragged the pc.

my wife signed up for msn msgr two weeks ago(dont know if that uses back web).

rebooted after an update w/NIS 2005 and now i get this;

hello guys, i'm new in this forum and i hope i can find the help i need :).
I just installed the SP3 and i have a problem with my audio drivers:
when i start up the pc everything's ok, but after several minutes i have this message : "generic host error 32, etc etc" and my audio doesnt work anymore. I have the last realtek drivers and i have installed too the HDMI driver of my VGA (ATI 4850). The funny thing is after that i cant open WMP, VLC etcetc because they dont find the audio device, but the audio in a game, for example, works good.

Do u know how to solve this issue?

Thanks everybody guys, cya!!

Answer:Generic host error 32 -audio problem-

Hi aenor and welcome to TSF
Try uninstalling you audio drivers though Device Manager in the System Settings in the control panel.
Restart your PC and install the drivers from fresh. Maybe there was a corrupt file that wasnt replaced by the update.
