Computer works perfectly fine then all of a sudden freezes

Question: Computer works perfectly fine then all of a sudden freezes

It does this like once an hour at least. Once it's frozen, it's frozen until I manually power off.

I tried scanning with spybot twice, and avira twice, though it froze on me befor it completed. I'm defragging now, but it will probably freeze before it's finished too.

Any advice?

Win XP, on a compaq pesario, by the way.

Preferred Solution: Computer works perfectly fine then all of a sudden freezes

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I think this has been happening since I upgraded to windows 8.1, back in October/November (which is around where this problem started). It's WiFi internet.

I can connect to the internet just fine, speeds are normal, all that good stuff. But when I'm connecting to a new network it takes forever (and "Connecting to the network is taking longer than usual" comes up) and it comes up with "The connection is limited."

The most annoying part is that this happens between four DIFFERENT connections in 2 countries. So. I need this issue solved, it takes forever to connect to the internet if I disconnect for any reason, My phone connects to the WiFi just fine, so it's not a WiFi issue. Even connecting to the WiFi with an ethernet cable doesn't work.

I'd delete my old topic if I could, but apparently I got a few things wrong. >_> Mod Edit: A Staff member deleted it for you ~ Hamluis.Anyways, I just got a new hard drive and motherboard for my computer today. I found that the green port doesn't work for whatever reason (and I'm not bothered by it unless it could fix this problem) so I managed to get the blue port to work by changing the settings to quadraphonic. Now that I've done that, my music player works, as does the test sound on SoundMax. However, everything else (Youtube, other internet stuff, any of my computer games) doesn't work. Looked around for a bit, nothing I found seemed to point to why.

My computer has started freezing for a split second and then it works fine. It will do this over and over.  This happens when in word processing software, on the internet scrolling pages, or when playing games.  I've scanned the hard drive, cleaned all temporary and internet files, made sure windows is up to date, and defragged.  Does anyone have any idea why it is doing this? Thanks.

I'm running 64bit Windows 7 on an Acer Aspire 5742G-6846 (specs posted below). As the title suggests, when I turn on my computer, it will start, login, but then it freezes. I can access everything fine in safe mode. I have already tried turning everything off at start up, uninstalling Rainmeter (which was giving me issues earlier), running ccleaner and malwarebytes. I'm not sure what else I can do short of reinstalling Windows. Any suggestions? Hijackthis log is posted under the laptop specs. Thanks so much.

Have you used the Registry Cleaner in CCleaner?

If you have, you should check this out.

Quote from Phantom010

You should avoid Registry Cleaners, Boosters, Optimizers, TuneUp Utilities... This type of software will do a lot more harm than good, and should only be used by advanced users who really know their way around the registry. Never to be used blindly on "Auto" mode. Most members coming here with WEIRD symptoms had their computer messed up by malware and/or registry cleaners. These utilities do not only remove what "they think" are orphan entries in the registry but legitimate files still in use will be deleted in the process, crippling some programs and Windows applications beyond repair. In a word, it's a scam.

Keep in mind that they will always find "errors" to fix, even on a fresh Windows install! In itself, this should be enough to convince non-believers...

Hi I've just recently started experiencing freezing during start-up. It started during a game of League of Legends, and has been progressively getting worse. It's to the point where it'll take minutes to log on and when it does eventually get to my desktop the task bar will have a loading symbol when I scroll on it. I've tried disabling all start-up programs, and services in MSConfig. Updated all drives, uninstalled newly installed programs, restored to a week prior to the freezing and still nothing. Any suggestions?

Hi there, have you tried removing other peripherals like extra HDD's or DVD/CD drive? might be an idea to just start your machine with only 1 drive, your memory and Video card. If it still does that, try starting the machine with less memory, if you have more than one module of ram.

Hello all, I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop that uses Windows Vista Home Basic that freezes shortly after I turn it on and log in. I can still move the cursor, but I can't click anything or type anything. It works fine in Safe Mode. I am in Safe Mode with Networking right now. I am suspecting that it is something to do with the drivers since it works fine in Safe Mode. For my first troubleshooting method, I would like to disable all Startup items I possibly can in System Configuration. The problem is that I don't know what I can disable and what I cannot. I don't want to mess anything up.

The origin of the problem: One night I was playing a computer game, not in a web browser, just on the computer, then I went to bed. I didn't turn off the computer, I just shut the top. About 5 minutes later, I heard the Windows start-up music. I thought to myself "What the...?" I opened the top and it said something like, "Windows had to restart due to an error." I click OK and proceeded. After about maybe a minute, it froze and I had to shut it off manually by holding down the power button. Now every time I turn it on and log on, after about a minute, it freezes. I can still move the cursor, but can't click or type anything.

If disabling everything in the StartUp tab of System Configuration doesn't fix the issue, I would like to disable all the items that I possibly can in the Services tab.

Here is a list of all the items that I have in the StartUp tab of System Con... Read more

Hello, earlier my computer BlueScreened on me, and since then I have been unable to do anything in 'normal' mode. Trying to open anything, such as browsers or game clients, or even the start menu, results in the computer freezing. They work completely fine in Safe mode+networking however. The Event Viewer errors you posted indicates possible issues with your hard drive. SO my first advise is nothing but to backup all important data to an external medium as an insurance. You can use USB HDD , Flash drive or DVD to backup the data. Then follow the below steps.

1. Download Crystal Disk Info Standard Edition portable from the below link.

    http://crystalmark.info/download/index-e.html

2. Run the tool and it will display the SMART data of your hard drive. Now Choose Edit --> Copy and all the data will be copied to the clipboard. then open Notepad and choose Edit --> Paste and save the file.  Attach this text file with next reply using More reply options --> Attach files.

3. Specify the exact make and model number of your Motherboard and Hard drive with next reply.

About an hour ago, websites are starting to load slower (not my internet) than they normally do, and the ones that do load eventually become unresponsive. It's so bad that I can't even load chrome://history or chrome://plugins without them becoming unresponsive (image here). On the other hand, Internet Explorer works perfectly fine. Websites on it load instantly and I can use it for more than five minutes without it becoming unresponsive, so it's obviously something on Chrome's side. I've restarted my PC and uninstalled/reinstalled Chrome and both doesn't help. I've removed all my extensions to see if they are the culprit, but they're not. This happened all of a sudden, and I haven't changed any settings in Chrome before or after all of this started happening.

So, my email works just fine still but I can't get any pages to load. I didn't make any changes that I can recall. I haven't been using my pc very much lately. The only thing I remember is that the day I noticed that it wasn't working anymore the power had gone out at the house while I was gone. I have no idea what to look into.

Any suggestions?

Answer:IE won't work all of a sudden... email works fine.

It seems strange that email is working and Internet Explorer is not. Perhaps IE got somehow corrupted. What are you using to connect to the internet - DSL, cable, FIOS, dialup, etc? I try having your modem reset as a first quick easy step. If you have broadband (not dialup), contact your broadband provider - Comcast, Verizon, etc. to assist. If you have a wired or wireless router, try resetting that too.

If still cannot connect using IE after resetting above, a workaround for Internet is using Mozilla Firefox (which personally and other experts think is better and more secure than IE). If you have another computer of a friend or family nearby, it can be downloaded from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/ and burned to CD (it is only 5.7MB) to install on your PC. If this works for you, then you know there is something going on with IE.

Hi

I have a ZyXEL 600 wireless router - it has worked without issues for years.

However yesterday evening my wireless router suddenly stopped broadcasting a signal.

2 different PC's and a wifi dongle attached to our TV were suddenly all unable to find my network.

The WLAN light on the router was still lit up. I connected my Acer Aspire 5742Z laptop to the router via an ethernet cable and it worked fine. I connected to the router and it said there were no errors.

I phoned ZyXEL support this morning and they dialled in, confirmed the router was reporting it was working. They installed inSSIDer on my PC and verified no signal was being picked up - but other local wireless networks were being picked up.

They suggested buying another modem as it was very old and could have just reached the end of its life.

So I bought a brand new Sitecom 300N x2 modem this morning, connected it up and have the exact same problem. All the right lights are on the modem (solid WLAN, DSL and Internet lights), I can connect via an ethernet cable but none of my devices can find a the wireless browser (but can find other networks and connect to them).

I've spent hours on the phone today to various tech people and gone through channel switching, changing encryption etc but nothing has worked. The router is sat in the same place it has been for the last 3 years and the laptop is inches from it but still no joy.

As far as I can see I've ruled out:

Hello, I've been having this issue recently. On my laptop, the wifi works fine, and then a little while later, it can't connect at all (it looks like it's connected, then disconnects, and then tries connect again, etc). All the other devices connected to the router is fine, only mine is the problem. I tried looking at device manager, the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 is enabled, updated, and in the properties, it says that the device is working properly.

The problem does go away temporarily when I turn off the router, wait a little, and then turn it back on, but soon afterwards, I continue to have connecting issues.

Here's the info

1. Is this a wired or wireless connection issue?
Wireless

2. Who is your Internet Service Provider (ISP)?
Verizon

3. What type of Broadband connection are you using?
Fios

4. What is the exact Make and Model of your Modem, Router or Modem/Router Combo - Linksys, D-Link, Netgear, TP-LINK, etc.
Router: Actiontec? Not totally sure

5. What is the Name of the Anti-Virus, Security or Firewall Software installed from the problematic
Avast

Welcome to Seven Forums,

Thanks for using the basic requirements, all info provided were very helpful. Your Xirrus capture looks good, no issue there, however, I see that in your wireless connection you're using Public DNS, why not change the DNS'es to auto same as your LAN DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1. You'll have to click on Obtain DNS address automatically....Please follow this Tutorial.

Also, it's best to use WPA2 with AES encryption for a better secured network, you're currently using WEP.

I have searched for this problem and can't find it anywhere. Every few minutes my IBM Access Connections keeps shutting down, then restarting all by itself. I usually don't have to do anything to restart it, but once in a while it takes too long to restart, so I reconnect manually. I don't know if it makes any difference, but it didn't happen until I downloaded Google Chrome. I've installed Service Pack 3, but no change. And while I'm at it, my laptop will no longer restart when I click "restart". It just powers off. SO this is the deal, my computer keeps freezing on me and i don't know why. For the last couple of weeks it would just randomly freeze on start up, sometimes i wouldn't even be able to get to the desktop before i had to hit the restart button. i wouldn't be able to click on anything. first thing that i thought was a virus/spyware/trojan/worm, but i ran a scan on my computer AND showed that I had no viruses or anything on the system. I reinstalled windows xp (although when reinstalling windows sometimes i would have to start over because it would freeze in the middle of installation...what causes that??), and there is nothing else on my computer but the same problem keeps happening, on start up it will just freeze, sometimes not even getting to the desktop, once it gets to the desktop, i can move the moust and use the keyboard but everytime i try to go into the desktop properties or my computer it keeps freezing, BUT THEN I CAN RUN MY COMPUTER SMOOTHLY ON SAFE MODE SO WHAT SHALL I DO??????? PLEASE HELP

Answer:Computer freezing Windows XP but works in safe mode perfectly

Could be a faulty video card. In safe mode the card is driven by Windows default drivers. In normal mode the installed drivers for the card are used. Check the m/f site for a later driver.

Actually, it would be easier to help if you would specify the OS, SP level and hardware details. Would like a lot more history as well - how old is the PC, have there been any problems previously, have you added any recent new hardware or accessories to it, have you looked at the event log for errors, tested the memory, run chhkdsk /r on the HDD?

Hi.

When I start my computer, it freezes when windows is starting, the when I reboot it goes fine, I type my ID/pass then everything goes ok for about 2-3 mins when it freezes.
The funny thing is that if I immediately play an mp3 with winamp and keep it, it never freezes..!!! so thats what I am doing to prevent from freezing.

What is the problem ??
I am sure it is a hardware problem.. it freezes with XP, 2000 as well as 2003. Surely the key to solve this problem is that it never freezes when an mp3 is playing !!

any clue ?
thanks guys !

This computer is deffinately one for the record books. It absolutely makes no sense.

My buddy was complaining of his computer freezing up and blue screening. I took a look at it and noticed that it seemed that the video card on the motherboard was failing (because the video would turn all weird colors and everything when it froze up). We ordered him a new motherboard.

In the meantime I gave him another computer that was working fine to use while we waited for the new motherboard. When he brought it home the temporary computer was not freezing up, but it was still geting the blue screen of death. I brought the computer back to my house, plugged it in and it completely worked fine...?

Stumped, I tried to isolate the problem back at his house.

I ran the computer with only the Moniter, Power, and Keyboard.....Still Bluescreening.

I tried running the computer to a different power outlet....Still Bluescreening.
I am not going to put the new motherboard into his original computer because odds are that there is something else going on causing the problems. (because it happened to both computers).
Any ideas?

Answer:Computer works perfectly here, but when my buddy takes it home it blue screens.

I recently built a new computer and ever since I installed Windows XP the system completely freezes after 5-10 min. I tried taking out both sticks of ram ( not at the same time obviously) both DVD burners, both HD's, and my network card, assuming it was a hardware problem, nothing helped. I loaded Linux Ubuntu and it worked flawlessly, the only problem is I need windows to run Photoshop (a must have for my job). Any suggestions would be most helpful.

Hello

I am new here, posting with an extremely inconvienient issue. I am running Windows Vista on an HP Pavillion dv6626 laptop. My issue is that Vista is constantly freezing upon startup, without any error message or indication whatsoever. It started once every week or so, then to everyday within 30 minutes of startup. Now, its within 5 minutes sometimes the desktop doesnt even load before the freeze. After the system freezes, I have to hold down the power button to shut off the machine.

There's a couple details that lead me to belive the issue is software related and not a hardware issue. First, when the system freezes, I can still move the cursor via the touchpad, 95% of the time. I just cannot select a window, toggle between screens, or get any keyboard functionality or any other response at all. Second, I can boot up in safe mode and have all the functionality as safe mode will allow with no issues. I can also startup in Diagnostic mode with no issue at all, but again, tasks are limited.

I have deleted countless files and uninstalled probably 60% of my programs including the most recently installed ones. I've updated windows, and cleaned temporary files, and I just received extensive assistance to solve a malware issue which I beleive to be fixed. (This issue began before I had a virus issue)

So.. I'm out of ideas. I'm posting this now in Safe Mode With Networking, and hoping for some help. Thanks in advance!

Hello there.
I'm looking for help. I've had some problems with my PC this month and I can't really make it work properly. It freezes/crashes/has a BSOD randomly, mostly a few minutes after it starts. It seems like it isn't caused by overheating since these errors appear independently of stress (one day I can play games for a few hours without a problem and the other day it crashes while browsing Internet).
At first, there were mostly BSODs and stuff, but it looked like it couldn’t save the memory dumps – there were no dumps seen in bluescreen viewer. Sometimes it just froze with the screen blurred and I had to restart it. After some of the crashes ‘cmos checksum bad error’ appeared while booting.
I reinstalled Windows and it seemed to be okay, but then there was a BSOD again. This is the only BSOD I can see in the bluescreen viewer. After the BSOD the bios clock was reset and I had to set it manually. I decided to clean the PC thoroughly, I even dismounted the graphical card to do it. After that, it looked like the problem was gone, but today it has crashed again. The screen went black and I couldn’t even turn it off using the power button. I had to switch it on a few times for it to run properly (before that there were only black screens and slow fans movement). When it finally turned on, there was 'cmos checksum bad error' again and it sounded weird. It was too quiet as if fans were running too slowly.
Finally, I waited a few hours and now ... Read more

Answer:BSOD/freezes a few times, then it works fine for a few hours

It worked fine for 2 days but just a while ago it displayed a BSOD two times, no new memory dumps though.

Hey guys! I hope you can help me, I am getting desperate ! 2 weeks ago I got infected with a file encrypting-virus, so I gave someone my PC to clean it,format it and reinstall my windows. And now I am stuck with another problem which I used to have in the past but someone else (I don't know how) fixed it for me. No matter the size of the torrent, my PC freezes while downloading in the first 10 secs. I uninstaleed my AV, I turned my indexing off. When it freezes, in task manager-proceses, utorrent gets a value almost to 100, as well as the PC usage. And today I got a new error during the freeze, " display driver stopped responding and has recovered" . And I noticed that in safe mode this display driver isn't enabled. Do you think it has anything to do with it? Please help me! Thank you!

I have an older laptop that is running Windows XP.  This is not my main computer but I do like to use it when I do not want to use tablet or desktop.  It virtually will not browse internet in regular windows mode.  It freezes and takes forever to go from one internet site to another.  However, the internet works fine when in safe mode.  I have Malware Anti Malware Free and AVG 2015 Free.  I have run scans in both safe mode and windows mode and it does not detect anything.  I also have CC Cleaner which I run frequently.  I have downloaded Autoruns and tried to delete some startup loads using your data base.  However, many are not in your data base.  I did find some that I could eliminate on startup but not that many because if it was not in your database, I left alone.  Do you have any other suggestions I could try.  As I said, this laptop is older and not my main computer but I would really like to try and revive it so that I can at least use it sometimes.

Answer:Internet freezes but works fine in safe mode Windows XP

If a client comes to me not only now but, for quite a while now, I will not let them spend time, money, effort or thought on an XP machine.  For starters they absolutely should not be used connected to the Internet.
Certainly @ this point in time, if an XP machine is not working properly, just don't bother w/ it... can't be used on the Net, anyway.  As for non-Net use, still, not worth bothering w/ it.  Time to just let it go & move on.  After 15 yrs, put it out to pasture.

1TB HDD

So I have had an earlier build of Windows 10 TP on my system installed onto my SSD and I was using that as my daily driver for about a month or so. It worked great and I was loving the new features! However, there was an update to build 10041 that failed multiple times trying to install, and eventually screwed itself up to the point where I had to do a fresh install. After doing a fresh install of 10041, I reinstalled all my programs and everything was wroking just fine in the first boot. However, after rebooting a couple of times, I'm noticing some problems. I can login and go to my desktop just fine and everything works perfectly for about 30seconds to 2 minutes, and then after that things go haywire. Start menu won't work, the cortana search goes blank, explorer hangs, chrome freezes, windows updates will pause, and my pc just becomes unusable and I have to manually reboot. After doing this many times and troublshooting (disabling startup programs/services, etc) Safe mode would open up saying it had an "unknown hard error" when I tried to boot into it. I had to reinstall again. This time, I'm running on build 10049 and it's doing exactly the same thing as before. Anybody have any suggestions? I'm about to just reinstall my windows 7 again.

I've had this probelm for a few days now and I hanv't been able to slove it yet.. when I get windows to boot up to the desktop it freezes about 5-15 seconds afterward, then when I try to restart I see the black windows screen with the bar of its progress filling up, however it is not normal and it is very dark, almost unable to see, and it freezes again. Only until I am aable to reboot in safe mode is when I can get anything to work, however this slows my computers speed and ablities very much. Everytime I try to boot up normally the same thing happens, ethier windows comes up for a few seconds before freezing or gets caught on the loading screen. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can try to fix this? Thank you very much in advance, help would be very appericated!!!!
Edit; Probelm Sloved, Thanks!

I'm not a Windows whiz by any means, but I'm usually able to solve the problems I run into on my machines. This one's got me stumped:

I leave my Sony Vaio VGN-FW290J, running Windows 7 SP1, running one night while I go out for some errands. On my return, the thing has crashed pretty bad (I-can't-even-move-the-mouse bad). Whatever. I do a hard restart of the computer, decline safe mode, and the thing starts up just fine. Well, it was pretty slow, actually. Windows freezes up on me within two minutes (it's still loading up startup programs during that time). I entered into a cycle of startup, hard restart, startup, hard restart, ... until I was convinced of the permanence of the issue.

I became unhappy then, since I knew something was wrong, and this computer hadn't had a real problem in about 4 years of usage.

My first thought was to do a virus scan, so I booted into safe mode and started Avast to get cracking. Two "threats" were found in a full scan: both were very old files. I removed them and I still had the same problem.

I then deactivated every single startup program except the ones I thought were absolutely necessary. No beans. I currently have these set to autostart:
Alps pointing-device driver (Tracker Pad)
HD Audio Control panel (Audio Card)
Realtek Voice Manager (Audio Card)
Microsoft Windows Operating System
ISB Utility (Battery Utility)
Catalyst Control Center (Video Card)
I'm not really sure what to do. I haven't been able to localize the crashing to... Read more

Answer:Windows 7 freezes up soon after startup - works fine in safe mode

If it works fine in Safe Mode and its not related to hardware, I would assume that you have an application that loading at startup that is causing you some problems. So why dont you use msconfig to scale back all the startups and then add them back to see which is causeing the problem

Dear Experts,
I am having Dell Laptop Inspiron 1525, purchased in August 2008.
2 days back machine didnt shutdown. I did shutdown using power on/off button.
After that my laptop freezes after 3 to 4 mins of start up.

I used Regpair setup to fix registry errors on 10th March '12

Please help.

Answer:Laptop freezes after 3-4 mins of startup, safe mode works fine

When safe mode works fine but a normal boot fails, it usually means that a driver is at fault... I would suggest that you run a disk check. You can set it up in safe mode in Computer, and right click on the C drive. Select Properties, tools, check now. Check both boxes for trying to repair... Restart normally

I have recently been experiencing in-game lag in the program/games I use; ventrilo, warcraft3, and counterstrike source. After everything I've tried, those games still lag and my computer seems fine. The last thing I can think of what might be causing the problem is that I manually deleted 2 big MMORPG files instead of uninstalling them the same day, then later that day is when I started lagging.
The lag only occurs in-game, and while I'm in vent I can see that I have a high ping

-Highly doubt that I have a virus or anything of that sort, I've had AVG for a long time and I have it run a scan everyday at 3 a.m.
-I've ran Ccleaner and cleaned up a lot of the junk on my comp.
-I've also ran a disk defrag.

Explain the situation and let them check your notebook.

This A200 is older notebook model and I cannot imagine you have been faced with described issue from the first day so I?m afraid there must be some hardware related problem and to fix this you need professional help.

Hi all - I tried installing a hard drive from my old machine into my new machine and I'm having problems.

I set my old HD to master and the new HD to slave, and this is confirmed in BIOS, where it lists the two HDs properly. But when I try to boot I get "Disk Error" and it won't boot Windows.

I tried booting with both HDs connected independently in the new machine. The new one (with Windows XP installed by Semantec Ghost) works fine by itself and the system boots. My old one still gets a disk error when it's the only one connected in the new machine.

However, when I set the new HD to master and my old HD to slave, it functions properly and I can retrieve the data on the old HD. I also confirmed that the old HD is good by putting it back into my old machine, and it boots fine.

Does anyone know what gives? Both HDs are SATA. The original HD is 250GB and the new one (the one I'd like to use as slave) is 80 GB.

So as some of you may know, I purchased two gigabit switches and a few NICs' I have a run of cat5e cable going from one switch to the other with a total distance of about 27 feet. Ive run two different cables and still am not getting gigabit. Checked both wires with multimeter, all pairs are unbroken. Used a cable that Ive been using for one of my computers and it got gigabit just fine. Anyone have any clues of what is going on?

Ive ruled out electrical interference by running the cable along the floor away from everything and still got the same results.

Answer:Perfectly fine, unbroken cat5e cable not reaching gigabit...

ok, figured while I was looking around in this board, I might as well post about an issue I'm having when recording lets play videos on my pc.

the audio is rather glitchy and artifacty when recording the game play footage, yet when I play the recorded file back on my pc, the audio is perfectly fine in the recording. I'm wondering if maybe this is a bit of user error on my part that I'm just not aware of or something like that.

the program that I use to record my game play footage is OBS, or open broadcast system. while recording, the audio that my pc plays back to me sounds funky, glitchy, and artifacty during the actual recording, but its perfectly fine in the actual file after the fact, so I'm wondering if maybe my pc, or maybe obs is somehow trying to delay the audio, and maybe thats whats making things sound glitchy?? I legit have no clue, all I know is that it just does not sound quite right, yet always is after the recording is over and done.

anyone have any ideas, or is familiar enough with obs to know what might be going on here? I have to be honest, I have not the slightest clue whats going on that makes it sound so glitchy during the recording, yet is always fine in the recorded file after the fact.

Answer:glitchy audio when recording lets play videos, perfectly fine in video

I'll be honest mmd you sound like an audio nut a bit like myself. Unfortunately I don't use that software or that card and the problem to me sounds (no pun) like it could be as simple as the card slot or any cables you have hooked up in the machine and what you are hearing going in is different to what you are hearing going out could be due to something as simple as that.
So what do we do about it first obvious thing to me is to reseat that card after cleaning the slot and connectors - see this and pic.

SLOT CLEANING

Now as for the slots toclean them use a strip of old credit card (or any card thin enough some arebetter than others ) about 1/2 inch wide nip the corners off one end - preferably round them offhold a piece of thin lint free cloth over theend dab on some form of alcohol - isopropyl alcohol (what we swab the skin withbefore an injection) is good and GENTLYswipe along the slots.

This can also be done for the GPU slot/s andalso the contacts of the sticks or cards - not the stick but some lint freecloth of course. See my pic for the sick but please be very gentle doing it ifyou are in any doubt - please ask before doing it but I use this all the timeand have yet to damage anything
Then thoroughly check any cables and plugs sockets etc for what are known as dry joints - soldered joints that have drifted apart or cracked.

Next this could simply be the card circuitry so check it thoroughly for any caps that are bulged or have scorch marks on them or the board.

Specs:
- PC Chips A15G mother board, BIOS just flashed with the 2008/08/12 update
- 2x Western Digital WD10EADS 1TB hard drives set up as a RAID 1
- Fresh install of Windows XP using the F6 function to install the RAID drivers, updated to Service Pack 3
(I can provide more system information if it will help)

I just upgraded my home-built desktop from a single 80G IDE hard drive to a RAID 1 with dual 1TB SATA drives with a fresh install of XP using the F6 option and installing the required RAID drivers. The system runs great but it would not power down after shutting XP down. After flashing the BIOS with the 2008/08/12 update, things get weirder.

The machine still doesn't power down when I shut down XP, but will shut down if I hold the power button for 3 seconds or so. However, if I press the Reset button on the front of the case the machine shuts down instantly, but does not reboot. When I select "Restart" from the shut down menu, the machine shuts down instead of rebooting. Even further, if I go into the BIOS menu then exit, the machine shuts down instead of rebooting.

The XP install is new this weekend so if I need to do something major it isn't a big deal. Is there some sort of BIOS setting that I have wrong or is something corrupt? The machine ran completely normally with the 80G IDE drive.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Jimal

Answer:Computer works fine, but will not reboot when requested

This appears to be a RAID issue, try disabling RAID and pulling one of your hard drives see if that changes anything.

The problem started after I, 1. Got a new graphics card, and 2. Changed my antivirus software from Avira to Malwarebytes. If you guys need any more info just ask .

My computer seems to be periodically running some sort of check. I can be in outlook, IE7, or a word document as an example, and ever minute or so, the blue bar at the top of the screen with turn light colored blue, and I will hear a click, a pause, and then three more clicks. After the fourth click, the bar will return to blue and I can finished what i was working on. If I try to type during this 5 seconds or so, no keystrokes are recorded. What I don't know is how to try to diagnose what is taking over my machine every minute or so.

Funny as I write this, I just realized, my outlook checks my mail every minute, and I bet that is what's causing the clicking. I have since disabled the automatic send/receive and the clicking has stopped. I guess my question has now morphed into why would the simple act of send/receive mail cause my computer to pause so? I am running outlook 2003 on a Pentium® 4 CPU 3.00 GHz with 1.00 GB of RAM.

I appreciate anyone's thoughts!

A few days ago, I upgraded my Windows 7 laptop to Windows 10 and took Cortana for a bit of a test drive. It wasn't great but it might be useful on some occasions.

Today, I bought a brand new laptop which installed Windows 10 when I powered it on. After the installation, I was checking things out a bit and wanted to verify that Cortana was working on the new laptop. Cortana promptly told me it was not available in this region!

This makes no sense to me. I was in Southern Ontario, Canada, both times (although in different cities within the area). I can't believe that Cortana would work in London Ontario but NOT in Kitchener Ontario, which is only an hour east of London.

Does anyone have any idea how I can coax Cortana to work on the new laptop? It's not that it's a must-have app for me but it *might* be useful on occasion or even fairly often if I give it half a chance.

Answer:Cortana won't work on new computer; works fine on older one.

Hi, have a look at this and see if you can solve your problem.

Cortana isn't supported in the region or language you've selected. - Windows 10 Forums

Win 10 is a bit delicate and can be sensitive to some settings being changed.

Hi,

On my desktop computer, all access to the internet is blocked except for one program. (Slavanap). people can log into me there, Also, it seems my windows firewall somehow got disabled.
It did not start that way though, At first, It seemed that I could just not use windows Explorer, everytime I would open it it would crash, but using google chrome, it worked fine. then slowly that stopped working as well, and I started using Mozilla firefox that i had on the computer and it worked ok till I rebooted. now nothing works except for that one program, slavanap.

I did a windows network diagnostics and everything passed except the DNS and HTTP, HTTPS, FTP connectivity. They all failed.
So it seems i have a DNS failure on all levels of the test. The HTTP part of th test fails on all levels as well. everything else passes
Under HTTP, HTTPS test,  I get an error 12007 "The address could not be resolved.

My laptop can access the internet, though without a problem via the same modem, so I am assuming that It is not the modem and it is not my service provider, but rather some kind of malware on the computer that changed settings and disabled my firewall. It is greyed out so it cannot be turned on. When I tried to turn it on another way it told me the firewall service was off and when it tried to turn it on it failed. Hi.

A few days ago I got a LaCie 500gb external harddrive from a friend who didn't need it anymore. When I tried to plug it in to my iMac (OS X Leopard) the hd wasn't recognized. I thought it was probably because my friend is using a PC with Windows XP, so I plugged the drive into my parents' PC (w. Windows XP as well) to reformat from NTFS.
Parents' PC doesn't recognize the external hard drive either. It reacts when I plug the drive in (makes the little pling sound), but it can't be opened from anywhere. It doesn't show among the other harddrives but I can access it to remove it.
The Device Manager gives me the message "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

I took the hard drive back to my friend to try it on her computer. Worked just fine! We managed to remove all her old files, do a quick formatting as well as a proper one. Could only choose to stick to NTFS though.

But, at home it's still the same deal. Neither Mac nor PC recognizes the drive.

Yes, I've tried rebooting both the drive and the computers. Tried all different USB ports (which works with other external harddrives or USB sticks), nothing works.
The system requirements stated on the original packaging of the LaCie hard drive are met by both the family PC and my iMac.
Any ideas?

I got this problem last night, when i took my tower to my girls house. She didnt have a surge protector, jsut a powerstrip so i plugged it into that.

Worked fine until like 20 minutes into a movie it just shut off.. like an instant "gone"

I was like wtf, so i try to turn it back on, and it wont turn on unless i flip the switch in the back of the power supply to "off" and then back to "on" Also It shuts off in the same spot every time after i put in my password and it shows the desktop for a coupa seconds and it just dies..

It started in safe mode once (i havent found how to make it start in safe mode again...)

I had this issue on a different system previously (would shut off whenever i turned on WM9, and the problem turned out to be the motherboard) So im lost and confused..

Heres the system in case anyone can help
Athlon XP 2800Barton
Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe
Radeon 9600 AIW
2x 256mb Geil ram
1 512 corsair ram
80gb WD harddrive (system drive)
250gb removable maxtor
Skyhawk power one PSU
DVD/cd-rw drive
CD-rw drive

thats about it...

Oh yeah, for some weird reason this system will NOt recognise blank CD's.. it will play and read normat/burned cd's just fine.. but it wont read blank ones..

Oh yeah, the last thing i did before taking it out of my house was install PowerISO, if it makes any difference

Hello Sudheer, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Since it works fine in safe mode, you might troubleshoot with a clean startup to see if it may reveal a culprit.

There will be other posts discussing this problem- it's not uncommon.

Hello guys!

I recently built a new gaming desktop, reusing my PSU and HDD/SSD combo from my old build. All three are known good and tested as such. Here is the current parts list:

AMD Ryzen 5 1600 (NON-X version) with stock AMD branded cooler
Asrock AB350 Pro4 with newest BIOS update
Zotac GTX 960 2GB
EVGA 750 watt semi-modular PSU
Team.. something brand DDR4 memory, 2x4GB (8gb total, installed in slots A2/B2)
OSZ TRION 240G, Toshiba 1TB HDD
Thermaltake Silencer F31 case with 3 fans total plugged into motherboard fan headers (if this matters)

Every once in a while when I try and boot the computer, the motherboard will beep at me 5 times, denoting a CPU error. I have to unplug EVERYTHING from the back panel for it to actually post.

I've tried narrowing down what causes this but it just fails to post with anything plugged in. I have a Corsair K70 non-rgb keyboard, Logitech G400s mouse, ethernet, 3.5mm audio out, and DVI moniter plugged in. Nothing plugged into the front panel.

Once it does boot up, everything is just fine. Browsing about, playing video games, doing work is all just perfect. It'll last another few boot/shutdown cycles and start beeping again. Once that happens, like I said before I have to unplug everything and try again.

What would cause this to happen? I still have all the receipts for these parts as it's only been 2 weeks that I've built this, so if needed I can return/exchange parts for new ones. Under load the GPU temp stays under ... Read more

It sounds like a cross between a gurgle and a popcorn machine when it seeks. I read where people have used rubber feet and even suspended them with bunjy cords. I know some drives are just noisy but what do you think of taking the main drive out of the cage and putting it on top (of the bottom cage), and using a combination of two sided sticky tape and weather stripping to secure it ? No I'm not going to SSD.

Answer:Hard drive in new computer works fine but it's noisy

I'm not sure if I understand but that is not a good idea as it would make the surface resonate making the noise even louder than it was because it would actually amplify the sound making it more annoying.

Hello,
I just recently installed a program on my laptop. It is called Precor Channel Editor (a work-specific program). It will not open. The spinning circle appears next to my mouse when I double-click it, stays for about 5 seconds, then disappears. The program doesn't ever open though.

The other programs on my computer seem to work fine, although I do remember having spent about 4 hours once before trying to get a program (C-SAFE) to work. Unfortunately, that was about 4 years ago and I have no idea what I did.

A few things I have tried:
Updated video drivers.
I originally had 7 Starter on my laptop, after speaking with tech support at Precor, they suggested getting Windows 7 Professional as that is what they use. I did, no difference.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled this program several times.
I also installed this program on my co-workers desktop just to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong/there wasn't anything wrong with the program. It worked fine on her desktop.
I have tried to run as administrator.
I opened task manager and watched it while I tried to open the program. The program name showed up in the processes for about 5-10 seconds, then disappeared.

Any ideas what might be going on? I have spoken to tech support at Precor several times and they don't know what the problem is either. It is a fairly new program, but they've never run into this issue with anyone else that downloaded it.

Thanks in advance!

Lydia

This hard drive is a 40GB from way back. It works perfectly in a newly built system (I donated it after the problems started). At first, I couldn't access it anymore, so I did data recovery then tried to reformat. It was recently given back to me after a report that everything was fine, works perfectly (just a bit noisy).

In my computer, BIOS detects it as connected. Disk manager also detects it, but it shows up as not initialized, even though it was initialized & formatted in another computer. I try to initialize it, but nothing happens when I click "initialize" in the wizard. Also I noticed in BIOS its serial code is corrupted. It isn't a hex number, but @ signs, exclamation marks, etc. It changed three times on me since I have tried to get it working.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Oh, also: both my primary (works fine) and this one are on the same IDE cable, set as master and slave, respectively. Unrelated, but also strange: my CD-ROM drive disappears from My Computer some time after a restart.

Hi friends,

I need help from you. I am facing one problem in one of my site where that website is working fine in IE7 and also it is working with compatibility mode in IE8.

But, i need to make that site work in IE8 without compatibility mode on and also if possible in firebox, google chrome etc.

Please advise how to do this.

With Regards,

Answer:Web Site works in IE7 perfectly but not working in IE8

If you want help, it might be useful if you posted a link to the problem website; otherwise we'd just be guessing at what might be wrong.

IE & facts from wikipedia:
IE7 was superseded by Internet Explorer 8 in March 2009
As of May 2012, estimates of IE7's global market share were 1.5-5%
It might decrease further because MS is updating users to IE 8 or IE9 if the computer can run that version.

Hi,

I live in a hostel where login based public wifi is provided.

I have a samsung S3 which connects to the wifi even at peak hours of traffic and gives full speed.

While when I connect through my laptop's wifi which is relatively newer than S3, it barely gives any speed, even googling is not possible. But at non peak hours when there is less traffic, sometimes it gives decent speed.

Recently I bought oneplus2 whose wifi performance is similar to my laptop's wifi performance.

All the above devices are able to connect to the wifi with atleast 3 out of 5 bars. I don't understand why when S3 gives proper speed, at the same time other device's wifi fail to perform which are relatively new. These new device's wifi should atleast perform similar to S3, if not better.

I don't have control over router's config as it is managed by hostel management. I am attaching screenshot of the Xirrus wifi inspector which gives the details about the router.

Please suggest if there is anything that I can do to improve the wifi performance on those devices.
Thanks in advance!!

I'd installed windows XP about 3 months ago because of a faulty RAM, and now would like to switch back to Windows 7. And now I have only 512 MB of RAM left. So, my question is that will windows 7 handle 512 MB perfectly or will it run slowly?

Hello all, I just wanted to see if I could get an opinion concerning random freezes in Windows 7 (on an internal Seagate Momentus XT hard disk drive). I have Windows 8 installed on an external drive connected to my computer via eSATA and it works just fine; no freezes have been reported. What happens is that after periods of non-use (15 minutes or more) and even longer periods of use (over an hour) my computer freezes. Instead of my pointer cursor I see the all-too-familiar blue wheel indicating that a process is working, but it never finishes whatever it is doing. So I ask you computer gurus: do you have any suggestions? All help is greatly appreciated!Ryan

Answer:Random Freezes in Windows 7, Windows 8 works fine

What is the % of the System Idle Processes 100-89ish normal 80 less that means your CPU is doing something when the its idle.

Right click thee Start Toolbar and select Task Manager go to Process tab and highlight the System Idle Process.

so Its freezing (non use after 15+ more)

What is the type of connection is it SATA 6.0 or 3.0

Has it BSOD when its just sits.

I would run a schedule a chkdsk on that drive.

Go to a command prompt window Pressing window + R and in the run prompt type in cmd and press enter

Tpye in chkdsk c: /f

After you run that command "it will say The disk is in use do you want to run at the next bootup"

tpye yes and hit enter

It will ask you to restart and check the file system. This will check your file system and fix any errors on that disk. Depending on the size or ammount of data it can take 15+ minutes. it will restart when thee program is complete. Do not abort this process once it has started.

Hello everyone,
I am back with more computer issues.

So yesterday. My room mate decided to run an Ethernet cable from our router upstairs and change our router location. (this I dont believe has much relevance to my issue, but explaining what happened yesterday). He said he only removed my Ethernet cable and did not touch anything else.

So as to my surprise yesterday, I turn my computer on... it loads normally but then my monitors begin to flash and turn off.
I have a 26" and a 22" one VGA, one HDMI running on a 2gb MSI gtx 770.
The monitors turned off for about 15 seconds, then I saw my desktop again, then it turned off and actually restarted.

It loaded, I thought maybe for some odd reason an auto update restarted it. When it signs back in, it begins happening again.
I assume a virus, or something screwy along those lines. So I boot to safe mode. I run MSE and malware byes...nothing.

I check the cables in the back, everything is in correct and tight. I browsed around and found nothing online giving me any idea what could be causing it.

Has anyone ever experienced this issue, or know what could be causing it? I cleaned my computer out recently, I dont think theres too much dust in there. Anything you would recommend, or where to star in determining the issue?

Thanks.

Answer:Computer constantly restarts --- works fine in safe mode.

Sounds like you might have a hardware issue of some sort that started happening. When you cleaned out the system; did you remember to do it with the system off? If not; the blowing around of dust inside the case could have shorted something. Only reason i say this is because I mistakenly did that once and i heard a loud pop sound and suddenly my system shut off. Fortunately for me it didnt do any permanent damage. But back to this issue; I would check your power supply; as often when a computer suddenly reboots without reason it could very well be due to a partially faulty power supply that is starting to go bad; and or a possible motherboard issue. For the power supply i would try and get hold of a volt meter and test to make sure your power supply is still putting out proper voltage. However; if it is a motherboard issue; there is not much that can be done short of replacement as the mb is the heart of the system next to the cpu.

I recently reinstalled BF1942 on my Windows 7 64-bit laptop, and to my dismay, the game doesn't start up anymore! It used to work fine on my laptop, until I installed a mod on it (with which the game ran fine) and altogether decided it was just cluttering my computer and uninstalled it.

Another whammy is that I installed the game on my other PC with the same OS, and just runs perfect! Except that computer is a shared one so I can't adopt it 24/7.

When I put the disk in, or otherwise click the icon, the disk drive makes a series of short staccato noises (unusual, i might say), and then the screen goes dark, as if the game is starting up, but then the screen changes in varying shades of black, and I'm reverted to my desktop again!

I reinstalled it a couple of times, but the same thing happens, and at first when i wanted to install or uninstall or play the game (after the problem) Avast would suggest I do this in a sandbox, yet I've installed this game on so many computers that I know there could not be a threat with the game itself!

Can you guys please help me? I really want to play this game again.

Thanks.

Answer:Battlefield 1942 won't start up in laptop, yet works fine on another computer?

Is the other computer 32-bit or 64-bit? The tempature could easily be getting hot. I'd reccomend getting SpeedFan HERE to check

I am running Windows Vista on a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop. I am using a wireless router, broadcom 440x 10/100 integrated, for my home network. My router is connected to a computer running Windows XP but I never had a problem with compatibility before, I've been using these computers together for a long time.

My Network Connections in my control panel is reporting the the network cable for my LAN is unplugged. However, the main computer is reporting that it works and there is even a green #1 on the router indicating that the wire is plugged in. The main computer also shows a yellow blinking light where the cable connects to the computer indicating that all is fine on that end.

I need to re-establish my LAN in order to use the printer from my laptop. I don't understand why it says the network cable is unplugged. I've never had this problem before and just noticed it yesterday.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions on how to solve this problem.

Just the other day, my music was playing no problem. I could listen to music on my website, and in Winamp like I always do. Today, I go to listen to it, and I can't hear anything! My sound is not on mute- I checked all the sound settings, and it makes noise, so I don't think it's my audio card. Could it be possible that it's a CODEC problem? None of my music is working and it's awful because I listen to music everyday. It's really upsetting me. I've tried restarting my computer multiple times- it didn't work. What could be causing the issue?

I'm not sure if this could have anything to do with my problem, but yesterday I opened up a .mpg file in Windows Media Player 11 because the sound didn't work in my Winamp when I tried it (that wasn't when the problem started- music on the internet worked), and it worked in WMP. However, after I close it and go to listen to music, it doesn't work! I doubt that had anything to do with it, or it might have, but please help.

I'm at a total loss without my music. ): Any help would be amazing.

A week or two ago, I downloaded the free copy of Paragon Drive Copy. This evening, I copied my C: drive to an extra hard drive that I had on hand.

It worked perfectly. It rebooted to do the copy.

I disconnected the cable from my old hard drive and substituted the cable for the copy. Booted, and it started right up. Identical to the old drive. I am writing this while working from the copy of the original drive. In a few minutes, I am going to reconnect the old drive and put this away in case of a drive failure.

If this software is still available free, I would get it as soon as possible, even if you don't need it. If you have some future need to clone a drive, this will do the job.

I do not own any stock in Paragon nor do I have any interest in the company.

In the past six months my computer has been infected with both AV Security Suite and ThinkPoint. Using the tools on this website, I have removed the malware/viruses but I am still having problems and could use some help.

I have read and followed the instructions in the Read and Run Me First and XP Cleaning Procedure threads and will attach my scan logs in this and a second message.

Basically, a quick recap. After removing AV Security Suite several months ago, the computer seemed to work fine until ThinkPoint arrived. I followed the steps outlined to remove it but after doing so the computer lost the ability to connect to the internet and had a very slow startup procedure (about 30 minutes) before applications would run. After the slow startup, everything seemed to work (except internet connections ie7 and firefox). I stopped turning the computer off because after hibernation the startup was not delayed and used my desktop when I needed to use the internet (my laptop was the infected computer with continuing issues, my desktop did not have the infections described above).

I finally got some time to deal with this and have been able to restore the internet connection on my laptop using Winsockxpfix. But I still have the slow startup issue and I get a popup message during startup as follows:

"RUNDLL

Error loading C:\Windowst32rvcr.dll

When i hit the OK icon, the message goes away and startup continues... Read more

Answer:Old xp computer keyboard works fine but when on boot menue it dont work

I think you will probably need to temporarily connect whichever alternative keyboard (PS/2 or AT) the system has input for, enter the BIOS setup as indicated on the boot screen, and enable an option which is commonly called Legacy USB. The system should then respond to the USB keyboard prior to Windows starting.

This often occurs on older systems when the CMOS data has been reset back to BIOS default values. Make sure the CMOS backup battery hasn't gone flat, or it is likely to happen again.

This post is for info only, I do not have a problem now. I am putting this under software, as I originally thought it was just s/w.

My computer started doing two things: suddenly freezing, no mouse, no Task Manager, had to be restarted with power off and on; second, it would sometimes simply crash (no blue screen) and sometimes restart.

With the complexity of XP, I thought there might be some software nasty... virus or maybe a IRQ conflict or whatever... after some considerable time, I found that the problem went away when I disabled my WiFi (Marvell Yukon on an Asus m/board). Further investigation led me to keep that WiFi disabled, and install a USB WiFi instead. My problems were solved, and I have now had a week with no problems.

There was no info in the System or App logs, presumably the XP O/S doesnt get a chance to run anything, as no crash dump either.

I hope this may save someone else a lot of time, if they have a similar problem.

This is a repeating problem on my acer Aspire 5100, which runs Windows XP, that began around late June. While running adobe photoshop, mozilla firefox (three tabs, all very low-content sites), and running an AVG antivirus scan on normal speed, I turned to look at something my brother was doing for about 20 seconds. When i turned back, the acer bootup logo was covering the screen. My computer had suddenly restarted itself. When Windows got around to starting up, it ran a disk consistency check, and found an obscure internet Temp file in the Mozilla application data directory. It had a long, possibly encrypted file name. The entry was "truncated," and windows started up normally. However, when i signed onto the admin account I was on when the crash occured, I got an error message. Since I'd had the problem before, I took screenshots which can be found at the bottom of the post. The last time these messages occured, each time I sent an error report to microsoft (or even if i opted not to,) it would close normally, then appear again in an endless loop. This went on until I restarted the computer. BUT, this time the error reporting did NOT loop. Also this time, I went through these 5 steps that I was recommended on the error reports. In addition, my computer has acquired this nasty habit of completely freezing up. Any audio playing will continue going, but if it is with video, the video will stop. I see this problem most frequently when playing my legitimate copy of T... Read more

My internet connection dials just fine and works for about 5 minutes and then stops working. It's not a problem specifically with internet explorer because AIM and downloading also don't work. When I try to go to webpages it will start to load them and the searches for them under .net .org etc... and then brings up the "cannot load page". Does anyone have any idea how to fix this???

Answer:Internet works perfectly for about 5 mins then stops working

This could be so many things but to start if you are on dialup you could have a bad connection. Can you bring pc to someone elses house and try from there. Could also be your Modem.

I have a new enclosed 3.5" external 250GB HDD. In my desktop, I could not format it. The progress goes until the end and then it says something like "could not complete format". Even when I run diagnoses software on it, it hardly response and works real slow.

So I plugged the HDD into my laptop, and it was working perfectly fine. I was able to format it and transfer files to and from it, even though both systems use Windows XP Pro.

Why is this happening? any idea?

your help is much appreciated

I have a three year old HP Laptop with Windows Vista home premium SP2, 3 GB RAM. Never used it with a wired connection, and had no connection problems with a wireless. Recently I had no wireless connection available and tried to connect to a wired connection. No success. Tried to get to the original driver for NVidia nforce network connection, and it worked! A few days ago, windows updates had an option to update this driver, and I updated it (while I was using wireless). I now have tried to connect to wired LAN, and no connection again! System restore has not helped. Device manager lists three network adapters: Broadcom 802.11 b/g WLAN, HP Netserver 10/100TX PCI LAN Adapter (with a yellow sign. no updates for the driver found), and NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller.

Grateful for any help in getting it connected with wired LAN.

Answer:Solved: No connection with a wired LAN. Wireless works perfectly.

whats the exact model of the HP Laptop - looks like you need the driver for the LAN Adapter

lets also see if possible to copy device manager and ipconfig /all and also xirrus

Post back the results in device manager
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Start > control Panel {Vista set to classic view}> system > {Vista, device manager on left hand side} {XP hardware Tab, device manager button} >
windows 7
start > control panel> System and Security> Device Manager

network adaptors, click on the + > post back the devices listed there
are there any ! ? or X
post a screen shot of the device manager - network adapters

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here

Hi everyone.

I have an absurdly odd issue with a friend's new Vista machine - he runs www.ewbattleground.com - for him the site doesn't load properly, you might see the banner but then it'll freeze and eventually times out - this happens to maybe 15 more of the site's users... all as far as i know have anti virus and firewalls etc. disabled - i'm really having trouble debugging this, it doesn't happen on any other invision power board sites.

As far as the server's concerned it's sent the data. Is there some kind of vista IP blacklist that might be stopping this working? It happens in all three browsers.

If I give this user a SOCKS proxy to use for connection the site works fine

Really really odd - anyone had similar issues? Any idea how to solve it? Does this happen for you @ ewbattleground.com?

Thanks,

HC

Hey,

I've been doing some online gaming (world of warcraft), and I kept getting these Error#131 issues. This would cause the game files to become corrupted and then I would have to repair, or reinstall. The WoW tech site says that chronic error #131 messages are either a Hard drive, Ram, or Motherboard issue.

Running the Windows Vista memory diagnostic tool has turned up some odd results, the initial test with a 1gb stick in slot #1 and a 1gb stick in slot #2 came back with errors. I then removed the ram from slot 2 and ran the test on slot 1 with 1 stick of ram.... no errors. I did the same with the other stick in slot 1.....no errors. this lead me to believe that it was slot#2 giving me the issue so I moved the ram from slot 2 to slot 3, thus having 1gb of ram in slot 1 and 1gb of ram in slot 3. After a little while......error#131 appeared.

So I then tested both sticks in slots 1 and 3 together and came back with ram errors, I then tested both sticks in slot #1, and then again in slot #2 and both tests came back fine. Any ideas on what this issue could be? I know both sticks are the same brand, speed, totally identical.

Answer:Ram Works fine in single sticks, not working fine together :P

Hi, I would like to start off by my PC's specifications, I have a HP Mini 210-3002SA notebook, originally it had a 250GB Hard drive and a 1GB RAM, Windows 7 Started OS, my previous hard drive got corrupt and stopped working so I purchased a new 1TB hard drive in which the windows 7 starter was installed by a technician and I had upgraded the RAM to a 2GB . My PC was working fine until recently it kept coming up with an error for a missing Conduit BackgroundContainer.DLL file every time I started the PC, so I downloaded auto run from Microsoft website and had deleted the missing DLL file and checked the PC for viruses and there was one virus from Bettersurf and my antivirus software removed it. I started my PC again and it starts up fine but it freezes when I open any applications, SafeMode will not let me run the antivirus with or without networking and I have no idea what's happening. I uninstalled recently downloaded programs which were MS Visual Basic and Team Viewer before deleting the entire conduit file using auto run. So please please please help me... I appreciate your efforts and your help ...

PS. Since the new hard drive had only the window 7 OS installed, I had installed all the necessary software drivers that originally came installed in the PC from the HP Website using a USB for transferring the drivers from one PC to another until Wi-Fi was enabled. It still was not like how it' was originally with the speakers making crackling sounds.... Read more

Please help me with this issue with my computer. I got home from school today and tried to use my dell desktop, and it seems to work fine for about 60 seconds and then it just freezes, like caps lock light wont toggle and requires a hard shutdown kind of freeze. It appears to work fine in safe mode. I tried to fix it myself by disabling all the non-Microsoft drivers, but it still freezes in normal mode. The only part in the system that isn't stock is a nvidia graphics card, but it has worked fine for a few months, plus I disabled the nvidia driver in msconfig along with everything else non-Microsoft to no avail. This seems to have come out of nowhere, because it worked fine this morning. I left it on during the day though. Please help me, I've done all I know how to do.

Edit: Forgot to mention one last thing. The Norton 360 subscription ran out today, so I tried to uninstall it, but the computer would always freeze before I could run something for that long. Safe mode doesn't allow uninstalling either.

Answer:Computer freezing a few minutes after boot. Works fine in safe mode + networking

Hello,

Try clean booting the PC and see if we maybe narrow down what is causing the freezing.

How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

Once we have the freezing issue resolved you can then uninstall Norton using there uninstaller. Norton Uninstaller

Well for about a few days now my computer will randomly freeze and wont work. Two weird things that happen also, 1 my keyboard stops working and these weird blue squiggly lines appear all over my screen whilst it is frozen. http://i62.tinypic.com/2h7q8fl.jpg as you can hopefully see here :$ this is the best screenshot unfortunately I could take. Please help in any way you can, it would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:Computer randomly, constantly freezes all of the sudden :( please help

My first guess is a video driver and software clash.  Be ready to run MiniToolBox, have the log file ready for the BC techs, they will advise how to publish it.
