I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When I am typing, emails, chat msgs, etc and I am careful to avoid the touchpad, my cursor will automatically move back to the front or middle of verbiage I have already typed, and cause over typing.

Answer:Moving cursor while typing

Hi there

This is a really annoying problem that sometimes appears on laptops - it can make the computer almost unuseable for input.

Two possible solutions --

1) Disable the touchpad completely when using a mouse -- you might need to install the generic synaptic touchpad driver rather than the specific one for your computer in order to disable the touchpad.

2) Video driver is not correct.

Note also the problem might only occur when you are actually on the Internet - and even then only on some ISP's / Wifi connections - no idea why either.

This is a HIDEOUSLY irritating problem - but it's very hard to explain to those who've never had it. Usually finding a touchpad driver that allows you to disable the touchpad solves the issue -- note you might have to uninstall your current one and load the generic driver.

I have a new dell laptop w/windows vista system and using roadrunner as ISP. While typing an email, the cursor will jump around all over to a new spot usually back to the middle of previously typed areas. I'll then have to delete that part and replace cursor where it needs to be. Any ideas on what to do to fix this besides Hari Kari? It happens on websites, anywhere I type besides just emails.

New here... searched previous forums for similar issues, and saw others complaining of moving cursors while typing. The only response I saw to this was maybe the pressure on the touch pad from wrist was causing. Not the case with me.

On 10/30/07 I had (i believe) a backdoor trojan creep in. I have since removed and fixed all errors (allegedly) the only lingering glitch is that while typing, (Word, Powerpt, Search bars, etc.) the cursor repositions itself either ahead or behind my typing. This is making my work take twice as long! This happens at either fast or slow typing speeds. It really is frustrating.

To be a little more specific, the movement of the cursor is not visible. It happens between flashes. One flash, it is before the next letter; with the next flash of the cursor it is behind by a paragraph (or more or less).

Please let me know what I should be checking to fix. Out of ideas.
Thanks in advance!

Answer:Moving cursor while typing... not heavy wrists

Now the "wheel" (or bar on the touch pad that acts like a wheel) is also not working. I went to check in Control Panel and got an error message... here it is word for word...
look forward to some help soon!!!

an exception occurred while trying to run “C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL “C:\WINDOWS\system32\main.cpl”,Mouse”

This seems to be a problem with every laptop I've owned as well as friends' laptops. If I am in the middle of typing a paragraph, my cursor will all of a sudden jump to another part of the paragraph. If I'm not watching, I'll end up typing words in the wrong place in the paragraph. I'm always aware of where my hands are on the keyboard making sure not to touch any arrow buttons or my mouse pad. Any suggestions as to why this happens?

Answer:while typing, cursor keeps moving to unwanted places

This is common on lap tops. If any part of you hand touches the touch pad. Try turning it off while typing and see if it helps.

I just got my ThinkPad today so I'm pretty pissed off about this. Whenever I try and use the touchpad the cursor will randomly, every now and again, start jumping across and around the page, making it impossible to work with. It will also trigger random gestures, minimizing everything randomly too. I am seriously pissed off, this is ridiculous from Lenovo on a new and recent model. What can I do about this? I don't want to have to send it back a day after getting it.

Answer:E420s touchpad randomly moving cursor (even when not typing)

Okay I managed to fix the problem by installing the Synaptic driver. I have a little annoying problem now that if I hold my thumb on the click while moving the cursor, it is a little more laggy and stuttery than if I just do it without my hand on it.

Just bought a new Ideapad S405 with Windows 8 from Staples. When moving the cursor around the screen with the touchpad, particularly when trying to navigate details such as lists and small icons, it jumps and skips to the point of frustration. It's virtually impossible to click and highlight a piece of text because of this issue. I've also noticed some problems with the cursor moving while it is resting and I am typing. I have installed the latest Synaptics drivers and rebooted my system. I have tried to follow the instructions here as well, but have been unable to find the "tap off when typing" option they're talking about. I'm returning this laptop if I can't find a solution. A tool that's so basic needs to work properly to make a new machine worth it. Thanks for any help.

Answer:Cursor skips and jumps (when moving and resting/typing) -- Ideapad S405

that link is for an ALPS touchpad. The S405 has the synaptics touchpad, I'm pretty sure for all S405s but I could be wrong. You can check that in Device Manager under 'Mice and other Pointing Devices'.. The Synaptics touchpad settings have a ton of settings, but I see nothing related to disabling the touchpad or tapping while typing.I have the S405 also and have no such issues as you are having.Have you checked if any processes in Task Manager are eating your CPU possibly leading to a stuttery cursor?

Whether I type an e-mail or in Word, the cursor jumps back and types the letters at random in the wrong place. Suggestions?

Answer:cursor keeps jumping back when typing

Open Notepad and see if you get the same problem when you type something.

You may have a keyboard that needs cleaning (with system OFF and keyboard unplugged) or is going bad. From your symptoms this is what I suspect.

Also check your Keyboard settings in Control Panel.

I have Dell Latitude D510.  Recently the cursor has been jumping back when typing, so I find the last few letters appear earlier on in the document.  It's not a Word issue, as happens sometime when typing in Google.
Touchpad only has basic features activated.
Seems to relate to when I rest on the laptop, as if I hover it seems ok - but this is impractical & a bad typing posture!
Other non-Dell forums talk of several causes and several cures, none of which help!
Any ideas, or do I need a new laptop?

Answer:Cursor jumps back when typing

I suspect you are accidentally touching something on the touchpad.  I have that trouble when I'm using my wife's Acer laptop, as I'm used to typing using a regular keyboard on a Desktop PC.  Actually, I have a lot of problems trying to type on any laptop keyboard.

Sometimes when I move the cursor across the screen, it causes my browser to go back to the previous page. This happens on different sites. It seems to be random and often happens a few times a day.
Is there anything in Win 7 I should check for?
If not, I will check for a virus.

Apologies for the slightly ambiguous title, but I have combed the web trying to see if anyone else has experienced this issue.

If I have multiple windows open (say Chrome, Outlook, Word and Exchange), my mouse will randomly jump between windows, pushing active windows in behind windows I don't need at the time. I can be typing in an active screen and all the sudden another window will pop up instead. It doesn't matter if I am using the laptop keyboard and mouse, or a docking station with dual monitors and a mouse and keyboard.

I've disabled ActiveWindowTracking and still seem to have the issue.

Has anyone experienced this?

While typing, the cursor jumps around from place to place randomly. If I don't watch the screen, I'll end up typing words into the middle of an earlier sentance. Just happenrd again! I believe this happens on any typing program, but is most frequent in Hotmail. This happened on a different computer several years ago, but I do not remember how it was fixed.

My anti malware is updated and used frequently. Microsoft Security Essentials.
Thank you, info is appreciated.

Answer:Solved: My cursor jumps around while typing?

it maybe the touch pad - are you using the touchpad at all - my wife had the same issue and we had to remove a lot of the touchpad functions
you could easily be brushing the touchpad - also sometimes if your paln is near the touchpad and typing can have the same effect

ont of the FN + F keys should disable the touchpad - try that and see if the probelm stops

Answer:[SOLVED] blinking typing cursor

Can you tell me what version of FF you are using. Also, you might want to check your history and find out where your relative went to, this will also help as you can start to narrow down any sites that might have installed something on your computer.

I would also recommend that you run all of your scans. If you don't have a scan for av, spyware, malware etc you can look at this site.

I am having a problem with my laptop cursor jumping while I am typing. The laptop is a Toshiba and about 3 years old. The last time I had it in to be cleaned (files), the shop said they could not reinstall my windows Vista as the serial # on the back was rubbed off, so they sold me a windows XP for an alternate operating system. Ever since they installed it, my cursor jumps while typing. The store closed up and I was not able to get them to repair the problem. I have looked on line and seen this can be caused by an number of things including drivers which I believe to be the problem. As the computer is a lap top, the mouse driver is set as a PS2 which does not reflect the touch pad (but it does work). I wonder if there is a different driver that would cure my problem.

Thanks in advance,

When I type any text on occasion, my text cursor will move a line up while I am typing, and sometimes mysentences may look like something Yoda might say. As a matter of fact, it has happenned three times while I have been typing this forum entry.

Does anyone have any clue as to how this is happenning and if there is a solution to this.

I am not really sure what can cause this, but it happens sometimes as I rest my wrists or forearms on the laptop while I am typing. I cansometimes get lucky by floating my hands above the keyboard.

Hi, Everyone- when typing on a new Asus EEE 1015, with Win 7, the cursor will suddenly jump backwards to an earlier spot in the text. This happens a lot, and makes it difficult to type anything.

I googled and saw this problem for many systems and OSs, but it seems like mainly a laptop and netbook problem. some people have erduced sensitivity on touchpads, or have updated touchpad drivers, or have installed a program that disconnects the touchpad when the keys are being used.

We know we are not touching the touchpad accidentally. you can really perch your fingers way above, and the jump still happens. We have decreased the sensitivity on the touchpad, and the jumping still happens.

We also have an Asus EEE 1005 Win XP, for almost a year, with absolutely no cursor jumping.

Any info specific to this set-up? I would love to hear any insights, before I go into a long routine of upgraing BIOS, upgrading touchpad drives, etc.

Answer:Cursor jumping Asus Eee 1015, cursor moves when typing

As the PC is new I would return it under warranty as this is most likely a hardware issue.

The only quick fix that might work is to reinstall the touchpad drivers from the Asus site. You could also check in the touchpad settings to see what is set for making the cursor disappear during typing, change the setting from whatever it is at present and see if that helps.

Hey there. I'm currently fixing a netbook from my friend.

When i first look up the problem and ask the friend when it last working and he say last working is sept and he last installed a AVG so i suspect it's a virus problem as i heard AVG rogue out there. So i attempt to boot in Safe Mode. Same result. Boot in LKGC. Same result. Boot Win7 installation disk for restore. Same result. (checked CD boot first)

So i removed HDD and connect to my PC to have virus removed on the HDD. There is one virus found. I expect it was bit more than that.

Anyway a little strange problem. When i remove HDD and i boot netbook with HDD and it goes in network booting. I checked in BIOS and it say network boot first and i changed to CD-ROM first then save in BIOS and reboot but it changed to default as i changed the settings. as i want check if netbook can open the Win7 Installation disk but i cant do if netbook changes to network booting AFTER i change the CD-rom first.

Cursor is smooth and fast at startup (and in safe mode), sound works fine (startup noise) but when everything loads and Windows is actually usable, it's like the PC works great .. until you move the cursor.

Cursor is choppy and affects sounds. I can watch video and listen to music perfectly, until I move the cursor.

I made a video of this:

Things I've tried: uninstalling / reinstalling / repairing / etc. mouse drivers, video card drivers, network adapter drivers (thought the problem was related to network activity because of startup/safe mode behaviour being normal), catalyst control centre, etc.

Some program possibly stealing focus from the one that you are entering text. Which one I have no idea and not sure how I would diagnose.

Try disabling one program at a time in task manager and see if you can pinpoint the culprit.

Hi everyone.
I just bought a new SSD.
I plan to whipe my old drive and put the OS onto the SSD. On my current drive I quite a few games.

The question I have is about backing up games/moving the files.
I have steam, origin and battlenet. I tried to use steam back up before, it stopped working and now I have a file that I can not delete.

I have not found a battlenet backup, or an Origin backup.
Due to all of the games being digital, I do not want to spend a day downloading all of my games over again.

The question I have:
Is it possible to move the files (i.e. programx86 --> steamapps) onto my external, then when the clean install is done, move the files back to the same location?

Is this a viable/possible solution, or what would you recommend I do to spare my data cap/time?

Thanks all.

Answer:Moving files to external, formatting then moving back.

If your system is working well the best way to do this is to take an image of the old drive and then restore it back to the SSD, or simply direct clone the old drive onto the SSD. I've had good results with Aomei Backupper to do this. If SSD space is a problem you could remove data and unused progs first, and do disk cleanup.

If the system is on its last leg, you're probably going to have to reinstall the progs onto a fresh install of Win7 on the SSD.

In either case, back up your valuable personal data.

I am pretty sure one of the computers on our network has been hacked. The mouse moves around the screen making click-drag boxes, but also opens programs like Internet Explorer and actually types a web address (like Someone turned on the computer this morning, logged in and walked away. When they came back, their billing software was open (but no mouse movement was noticed). This computer had it's hard drive removed and scanned as a slave drive using Symantec Antivirus, then the PC was scanned in Safe Mode using Symantec Antivirus, SpyBot S&D and Malware Bytes Antispyware...nothing detected except some cookies. To make matters even more interesting, the mouse has been observed moving and clicking even when disconnected from the network (there is no wireless network adapter on this PC, but it did have a wireless keyboard receiver) I don't understand how this is possible. It sounds like someone may have installed some elaborate prank software on here, but normally these applications are terminated on reboot, and nothing suspicious in msconfig startup, startup folder or HijackThis scan. If anyone else has observed this, or if you think you might know what is going on, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Has anyone figured out why my cursor would jump to another spot on the page when I am typing text? I looked at previous postings and I didn't see a solution. It can happen to me in any program I'm using, but I mostly see it in Microsoft Outlook 2003. It can jump anywhere; I've seen it jump when I wasn't even typing, just sitting there thinking about what to type. I have a Lenovo laptop and run XP on it. This has happened in Windows Live email as well. This problem happens a lot. I looked at my mouse settings under my control panel and I don't have a choice in pad sensitivity, but I don't think that is the problem with the jumping.

Answer:cursor jumps while typing

My old HP laptop was doing that for quite some time before it eventually bugged the crap
out of me to finally take it apart and give the keyboard a good cleaning.
That fixed it. Nothing as irritating as typing a sentence and it's putting the characters
in the middle of another sentence or paragraph or where it feels like putting it.
It just wore my patience down.
Good luck.

I am having an issue with my computer reading boxes from my input that look similar to []. When I use a readkey method in a program it will display that the input it is reading is a 255 which is ancii for 'blank' if I understand right. I believe the boxes are the visual representation of a blank?

I am using windows 7 ultimate on a dell inspiron 1501. Any ideas what in the world would cause it to continue reading this input? The thing that is strange is it only happens during a readkey call in code or a program that uses a similar method to type with such as a java application that is used to show work for homework. Things such as threads like this, or word processors or notepad etc don't do this.

Hope that's enough information to give you guys a good idea of the problem, let me know if more information is needed. Thanks in advance!

Is this a laptop? If so, adjust a few options ...Click the start button with the windows logo on the left side of the screen at the bottom.Choose control panel from the left list. One left mouse click. If you do not see three lists of icons, look at the right-top portion of the window for the word category. Click the little downward-facing triangle, and choose your icon size. I like small icon. Most of the icons will fit in the three lists easily.Choose the icon with mouse.Click the device (settings) tab.Click the settings button. On the sensitivity option, click the plus sign.Highlight the palm check (click), on the right side move the slider to the needed level. Highlight touch sensitivity under the sensitivity heading too. Move the slider here as well.If this is not a laptop, seek out new drivers from the manufacturere. Run Windows updates.I'm learning.

Hello, I am having this very recurrent issue of the freezing cursor while typing or even just pressing a key on the keyboard. In fact, I have reached the parameters, tried to set the activation delay after pressing a key to "None, always active" but this option doesn't work. It freezes anyway when I push a key. I have tried to uninstall the factory driver (the one distributed by HP) and also installing drivers directly from Synaptics. Nothing works. The only way I have found to make my cursor moving while pressing a key is by completely uninstalling the Synaptics drivers but the problem is I can't scroll with two fingers anymore and above all, at the first reboot that I make, Windows 10 automatically reinstalls the Synaptics drivers and the problem with them. I am 100% up-to-date, as I have Windows Update and the HP Support Assistant running at all time. All the other students in my class have the same issue, we all are developper students and NONE of us, nor the teachers or other students from more advanced classes could manage to fix this problem. Has anyone found a solution ? Thank you very much.

While typing in any text box or word doc, my cursor disappears and I have to click back to where I'm typing to be able to type again. The cursor is not moving to another area. It acts as if I clicked outside the text box. It's not an issue with touchpad. I dislike touchpads and have disabled it and attached a logitech optical mouse. The issue started before I was using the logitech mouse, so I don't think it's that either.
I have a Lenovo Ideapad 500 with Windows 10. It's a new computer; I haven't even had it a full week yet.
I saw a similar question, but it wasn't answered in a way that solved my problem as it was assumed the asker was having issues with the touchpad.

Answer:Why does my typing cursor keep disappearing?

This may not solve your particular problem, but I encountered something similar on my HP Envy dv7 laptop. The active window would loose focus about every 5 to 10 seconds, and it was driving me crazy. Turns out it was a setting in the included HP SimplePass software for the fingerprint scanner. Once I disabled the Launchsite setting the problem disappeared.

Hi, I have this problem with my laptop Sony VAIO VGN-NS11J.
The problem is that while typing text the Cursor will either jump back into previously typed text or will sometimes initiate another page on it's own.
This is very annoying as I cannot type well enough to watch the screen and type - and I have to look at the keys as I type.
This then necessitates me having to go back correct and re-type my text.
I have windows 7 installed on this laptop.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

I have a HP pavilion dv2000 laptop about 4 months old. I have the "jumping cursor" problem. The cursor will jump around the screen when I'm typing (I've had to correct this email 4 times already. Turning off the touch pad stops the problem but so does typing on another computer. I've tried a number of things to no avail. It is an intermittent problem in that it doesn't do it every day. When it does it, it does it bad.  I have experimented and I'm sure that I'm not touching the cursor pad as I type. I do often touch the case in the area around the touchpad. I'm guessing this is a grounding issue but can't prove that so far. I like this laptop but because of this problem, I'm unlikely to buy another HP. Any ideas, anyone? Alex

Answer:cursor jumps around when typing

If you are swearing off an entire comptuer manufacturer because one product you bought from them had an intermittant issue that could be fixed with a single service, then more power too you, but that is a poor basis for condeming an entire brand. As far as troubleshooting your issue goes, you might have a grounding problem, i'll back up your diagnosis there, obviously the issue will be hard to verify via phone support, if you call into HP, and are in warranty, you can have the computer sent in to let them check. They would probably replace the chassie or touchpad itself for free under warranty.

Hello. I'm new to the forum so please pardon if this is not in the right section.

Here is an issue I need help with: I have a Dell EliteBook 8460p, with Intel CORE i5, Windows 7. It says Dell on the laptop lid but reads HP on the screen. Whenever I try to type any kind of content at all, the cursor simply jumps around, usually jumping up 3-6 lines. This makes coding impractical and sending a basic e-mail or writing a blog post can take triple the time it usually would since the cursor is jumping all around while I type.

I see that the Scroll/num lk button is lit but I can't depress it to turn the lithht off and I'm wondering if this is what's causing the issue. If it is causing the issue, there's does not seem to be any way (that I can it see now) to turn it off. Just typing this paragraph cause the cursor to jump up or 2-3 sentences so I've had to retype things multiple times.

Can anyone please help? Thank you.

I've been plagued with erratic cursor movements while typing. The cursor jumps to a new place and typing continues there, or it will jump someplace totally outside the area. I've switched mice 3 times now - same problem with each one. ive changed ports as well. It's driving me mad! Weird thing is, it's only been happening in the last 3 or 4 months and ive had the laptop for a few years so it shouldnt be whether the touchpad is enabled or not. Im on a Gateway laptop with Vista Home Premium. Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Answer:Cursor jumping around while typing

If the touchpad is enabled, the cursor will jump around when you type.
Installing a mouse doesn't disable the touchpad. You have to do it.

If you always use a mouse, then make sure you disable the touchpad.

It doesn't matter what program I am using whether it is the internet or word, it still moves and it always moves to the left messing up my sentence. Is there something wrong with my computer or do I need to do an update that I am not aware of. I have made sure my hands are not touching the mouse pad on the computer and that doesn't seem to make a difference, I have also made sure that the mouse is set to not show while typing but it is still doing it. Answer:Why does the cursor disappear while typing?

Hello and welcome to Windows Central with your first post!
What device are you referring to? If a PC, are you referring to the typing cursor or the mouse/touchpad cursor?
If you're referring to the mouse/touchpad cursor, the disappearance of it depends on where you're typing. For example, right now while typing here in Microsoft Edge, my mouse cursor didn't disappear; however, if I head over to Notepad and begin typing there the cursor would disappear - nonetheless, as soon as I move the mouse or touch the touchpad the cursor re-appears instantly and it doesn't seem to affect my typing.

Keyboards and mice function off interrupts. Check to see what's running that might interfere or keep the processor tied up. Laptops are almost always overburdened with unnecessary crapware. They're setup for newbies and check this or that, update this or that and monitor everything. Once you have a few months of experience with a PC it's time to get rid of the training wheels.

Perhaps this has something to do with your cursor problem. Just a thought.

Basically, when typing in mIRC, Windows Explorer, or MSN, my cursor disappears. In Firefox or AIM, it doesn't. I have no clue what else to try. I also notice it only disappears when my cursor is on the window of said programs. If it's in the mIRC window, it'll disappear when I type. When it's outside of the window, it won't.

I'm on XP Home with SP2.

Also to note, I had my friend try this and his also doesn't seem to work.

While typing a document, a sound will occur and I will lose my curser. Subsequent typing does not appear on the screen. I have to click where I want to type to reset the cursor. This happens frequently while typing. This occurs in my Word Processor, in my email, or anyplace I type. I found that the Title Bar also dims at that time and if I click on the Title Bar the cursor will return. My operating system is Windows XP. There are no error messages.

Answer:Loss of cursor while typing

What "sound" are you hearing? It sounds like something is happening that changes the active window selection - that's why the title bar dims out, it is no longer selected. Essentially, something is making you change programs so that you're no longer typing in Word, but whatever mystery program is popping up is the question.

Next time this happens hit Ctrl+ALT+Del and look for any suspicious processes that are running that may be the culprit. If you can't find anything, download Hijack This (, install it to C:\Program Files, close all browser windows, run it, do a System Scan only, click Save Log when it finishes and copy/paste the contents of the notepad that pops up into this thread.

Whenever Im typing something just like this question now my cursor keeps dissapearing off screen every 10 seconds or so and I have to click back on the screen to carry on typing. Its very annoying if Im typing something big as i could be in the middle of a word and it just stops and I need to click back on the window to carry on. Its as if the cursor clicks off the screen and makes the window inactive and I have to click back on the window im using to make it active again.

It also wont let me watch any streaming video in full screen. Like you tube for example, if i select full screen it lasts about 10 seconds and then resets to normal size. Very frustrating. I turned off the touchpad on my laptop but it still doesnt make any difference. I have also scanned for spyware and virus's but no joy.

Typing cursor disappears after very short time, perhaps 1 second, and has to be restored by mouse click - making typing very slow - it took half a minute to type "perhaps".This seems to happen quite irregularly, at times I may be able to type several words without any trouble, such as this sentence, and then back comes the dreaded disappearing act. Also, in Internet Explorer, when I pull down a menu it often disappears before I have time to dig down to the item I want. Could this be connected?Any suggestions will be most welcome.

(not sure if this is the right board, but it seems feasible that it might be malware)

Hello... been having this problem for a little over a week...

I will be sitting here minding my own business when my typing cursor will just up and go away... which means my typing STOPS where I was when the cursor went away...
When this happens I have to manually click on the spot again to start typing again... it does it every 5-10 seconds at least when I am typing into a text/chat box.

It seems to be something is stealing the cursor's focus away from the active window, but my window title bar never changes color (like it does when you click outside of an open window)

I have tried using TweakUI and setting it so the focus cant be stolen from the active window, but it still happens...
Also... my mouse cursor never moves from the spot I leave it at.

It has happened about 15 times since I started typing this post...

Any clue what the problem could be?

Answer:Typing cursor will just DISAPPEAR...

I have a Toshiba laptop Satellite M-65-S9093. I am using Windows XP home edition. I have a very strange problem. When typing, frequently when I type the letter "t" in my email, the cursor will jump to a previous line immediately following the "t" keystroke. At first I thought it was Outlook 2003, or Microsoft Word 2003 which was my text editor, but it occurs with any text being typed including this post and in the Notepad application. This is very frustrating since it takes forever to type anything when the cursor jumps to another line with almost every "t" that is typed. In outlook it frequently jumps to the Send button and i depress the next key before realizing it and the email gets sent mid-sentence. Here it keeps jumping to the second word in this post (have, between the "v" and the "e").

Any suggestions? I have tried using compressed air to clean under the keys.

Can you reinstall the drivers for the keyboard?

My O/S is Vista 32 bit.
When typing my cursor jumps backwards at random.
I understand it could be the sensitivity of the touchpad although I do not touch it when typing.
Can anyone suggest a fix please.

Im not sure if I have posted this in the right place.

When I type (in word, excel, internet etc) my cursor appears to jump to another part of the field / another tab mid typing and not triggered by any particular key press. So in the middle of typing this sentence the cursor may jump without my knowledge to the middle of the first line I typed. I am not doing anything different to what I normally do in terms of typing.

I read on a forum about a program that is meant to help which I have downloaded and is now active called Touch Freeze. It seems to have helped a bit but I am still getting the same problem several times a day (as opposed to several times a minute which it was before installing this program).

I also read that there is a button in 'pointer device' which can be clicked to stop this happening. The guidance said this should be in the shortcuts bar but this isnt present in mine. I looked at hardware via the control panel but couldnt find anything that referred specifically to pointer device. I downloaded the driver again for the pointer device and nothing seems to have changed.

I have an Acer Aspire 3630 laptop running on Windows XP.

Any help or advice would be very welcome. I would appreciate it if you treat me like an idiot with your responses, as I might not know what to do / what to click on.

Answer:Cursor keeps jumping whilst typing

Sometime going to CTRL PANEL>mouse>pointer options and unchecking "Enhance pointer precision." will solve a problem like this.

Good morning:

When I type the cursor will jump to another spot among the text previously typed or even off the page which means I have to grab the mouse, delete the misplaced text and return the cursor to the place where I was typing. This is very annoying and disruptive.

Have spoken to a number of friends and several have claimed to have this problem while others don't know what I am talking about. Seems to have some connection with touch typing using all fingers. Have began to wonder if it is connected with the fact that I learned to type on a manual 22 inch Remington a thousand years ago and might be hitting the keys too hard.

This problem seems worse with some programs such as e-mails however it seems very solid when typing this question.

Would welcome any suggestions as to why this happens.

I need help everyone! I have a problem with trying to type emails, etc. My cursor, instead of staying at the end of the line I am typing in, will jump back into the previously typed characters and begin inserting my typing. I have to backout the words just typed and get the cursor back at the end of the line. I also have a problem with my slide bar on the right. If I pull the slide bar down to access a webpage further down, when I get to the area I want using the slide bar and then try to move my cursor into the page, the slide bar will slip me back up as though I was pulling the slide bar. In order to get onto the webpage I have to very quickly move my cursor into the page, sometime this will work but its almost like I have to 'escape' the slide bar quickly or it has a mind of its own. Is this a virus

Answer:Random movement of cursor during typing

Are you using a laptop with a touchpad? Maybe the touchpad is too sensitive. That usually can be adjusted in the control panel.

Text - cursor jumps around in Windows 7. Strange but true.If find that, when I'm typing on my Dell Vostro, the place where the next letter goes will suddenly jump to another spot on the page. This goes for all software, Word, notepad,, Skype etc. It is not the trackpad, I hjave made sure I don't touch that - and anyway it wouldn't make text jump. But I'll be typing in Word - for example - and the next letter will suddenly to two lines above for no reason. It always jumps up, never down and usually back.It is the most bizare things I have every encountered.Tried uninstalling software, Restore - everything.....ANy ideas?ThanksT

t8769, I'm new to 7 so this may not apply. Previously, I ran XP and it had a trojan/worm that did that. It's similar to a virus, but not the same and an AV can't clean it. I required a special cleaner. Malware Bytes ( ) or Superantispyware (don't have link. Google) could clean XP, dunno 'bout 7. If you try either, be sure to update it first as they change all the time. May not help, but won't hurt anything.HTHEd in Texas

I have a 3000 y410...lately, whenever I am typing emails, (which are mail, gmail, etc.), the cursor jumps randomly to a new  location.  I have been very careful not to touch the touchpad, and have checked "disable pointer when typing," in the mouse settings thru control panel (as recommended by Lenovo tech support).  I've updated to the latest Alps driver on the website, with no change.Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi,Did you tried turning off the touchpad? I have experienced this problem. Even though I took utmost care about not touching the touchpad while typing, I felt that I uknowingly touched it a lot of time. So, to verify this I turned off my touchpad and then typed and didn't experienced any problem. So, turn off the touchpad once and then see if the problem still exists.Message Edited by anuragsharma on 05-16-2008 02:48 AM

I recently bought a refurbished Toshiba Satellite Pro A200 Intel Dual Core-M 1.86GHZ 1Gb RAM 80Gb to catalogue some 450 antiquarian books away from my pc.
I am having problems entering data into Excel cells in that if I'm typing line four, say, the cursor suddenly jumps back to, say, line one and continues entering anything I type in the middle of line one rather than the end of line four. This paragraph I'm typing now could come out like this:

This happens at least 50% of the time and, less commonly, sometimes the cursor jumps back to another cell and corrupts the entered data there, sometimes even deleting what I've entered. At best this is time consuming, at worst I lose valuable data, which I sometimes recognise has happened but at other times am unaware of. I would add that I have exactly the same problem (minus jumping back to previous cells) in Word.
I have Windows XP and I have downloaded Office 2007 Ultimate on to it.
Before I go through the hassle of returning the laptop, does anyone know what's happening and is there some simple adjustment I could make to sort it out?

Answer:problem with cursor/ typing in data

You could be brushing the touchpad with your sleeve.
Instead of typing directly into the cell, click in the cell to select it and then click in the Formula Bar box at the top to type/edit text and then press enter when finished.
Also do a Repair of Office in case it is something to do with the program.
