Automatic Computer Lock Time.

Question: Automatic Computer Lock Time.

Hello,

I am running genuine Windows XP, SP3.
My OS gets frequently locked, within 1 minutes of having no activity(mouse or keyboard).

I have checked the Sceensaver timer, but it is of no help.

I want to increase the computer lock timer as per my preference, but do not find this option anywehere.

Is there any registry setting or so, or if it has anything to do with group policy or anything.

I just keep unlocking my PC after no activity for 1 minute, makes it really difficult for me to read any article or e-book.

Please help.

Thank You,
Saurabh.

Preferred Solution: Automatic Computer Lock Time.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Greetings,

Is there a way to get Windows XP and Windows 7 machines to lock (WinKey+L) automatically after 20-30 seconds of idling? Screen saver only allows down to a minimum of 1 minute, and we need less.

How about an automatic log off after 20-30 seconds -- is this possible? Thanks!

I am not quite sure where to start...as it is not a hardware issue, so me mentioning the hardware would more than likely not make the difference.

A few weeks ago, after a security update came down from Windows update, my home setup mysteriously started password locking when the remaining idle for a period of time. I do not have any other user accounts on my computer, just the Administrator account that I normally use. This same thing happens on my networked office computers, even if you aren't an administrator.

I have made sure that my screensaver is off, and I have also even messed around the power options, making sure that it was not the "one wake-up ask for password option."

I am not quite sure what caused this function to turn on, perhaps it was the security update, perhaps it was not.

Does anybody now how to turn off this function?

Answer:Vista will password lock when computer is idle for a period of time

Hello,

Right click on your Desktop and click on Personalise. Click Screensaver in the new window. In the Screensaver window, uncheck "On resume display logon screen", click OK and the problem should be fixed!

It's critical that my PC keeps the exact time as I record TV shows on it so just a few seconds off one way or the other will make me miss the start or end of my shows.

I found it was drifting off too much between syncs so I found a program that lets me set it to sync daily, however it seems like most of the time it gets the time completely wrong, often as much as 30-90 seconds off. I did notice that when syncing manually in the time settings it normally gets the right time each time, so I don't know why the scheduled syncs get the wrong time.

I did try several of the time servers with the same results.

Is there just no way to get the Windows time sync to work properly and if not are there free third party programs that can do it reliably?

Thanks

Hello,

After countless hours searching online and into the depths of Vista, I've nearly given up. I cannot figure out how to disable the occurrence of Windows Vista Beta 2 automatically locking the computer after 10 minutes of inactivity. I've completely disabled any sleep features, and the option "require password after recovery from sleep", and nothing seems to do it.

In the process I've basically disabled every security feature present in this new OS, just out of shear desperation. I display presentations that may not have keyboard / mouse input for two hours, but the monitor is still being viewed. I do not want the automatic log-out to occur at all.

I hope I've just overlooked some very simple adjustment, because I really love Vista otherwise, despite its current kinks.

Sincerely,

William C

P.S. A big fat thanks to anyone in advance who can answer my question.

(sorry for my message in dutch before)
I don't use a screensaver.
I've configured my laptop to come in sleep after 30 minutes.
But if I first manually lock my laptop does he then come still in sleep?
(I can't check that because after a sleep (without manual locking) I get a login screen when a touch a key)

Answer:in sleep after automatic lock?

Right after you get back into Windows look in Event Viewer.
If it did Wake from Sleep, you should see an Event.

Here is a sample of what i see for a Wake Up event.

If you don't want to see a login/pw screen on wakeup, that's a different question/issue.

Hello, Can somebody advise - how to disable turn off of display after automatic phone locked. Otherwise i dont understand the idea of lockind screen(with multiply features) if is is not visible after few seconds because of black display.

Answer:How do I disable my Nokia Lumia 730 screen after an automatic phone lock?

The lockscreen's purpose is to protect your device from accidentally responding to unwanted touch events (e.g. while carrying the device in one of your pockets). Or - if using a PIN protected lockscreen - to restrict access to the device itself. The reason why the screen goes black/off after a while should be very obvious. It does it to reduce battery consumption.
I'm sure there's no way to disable that.

As it says in the title I am having two issues with Windows Ten, both coming after an update on the 6th of October. The more pressing and annoying is that after the update, whenever my computer goes into sleep mode (closing laptop or simply a longer than expected work break) my computer will wake back up, but when I press any key to go to the password prompt for login, the prompt never appears, and I am forced to restart, oftentimes losing some research I have been doing (I previously had OneTab, but I deleted it in the process of troubleshooting the second issue ).

The second issue has a temporary fix, but due to the high restart frequency caused by the first issue, has become more prevalent. The issue is that after any windows update, my internet across all browsers is runs painfully slow. After hours of searching and trying suggestions, I stumbled across uninstalling my wifi driver and reinstalling with a reboot. This worked extremely well, and my download speed went from <1Mbps to 30Mbps. The issue is that whenever windows decides to do a small update, I am forced to go through the same process, and Windows seems to enjoy small updates. I am wondering if there is anything I can do to avoid this in the future.

Thanks for any help in advance!

Answer:Issues after automatic update(internet/no lock screen password prompt)

Hi, regarding the first, you might try this:
Require Sign-in on Wakeup - Turn On or Off in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

Then by way of routine checks: From an admin command prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Make sure the result is clear or fixed- else do not proceed.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:
How do I see the results of a CHKDSK that ran on boot? - Ask Leo!

and
From an admin command prompt run
sfc /scannow

and report results.

I have an Athlon 650, 512 MB PC running Windows 2000 server edition running Internet Connection Sharing (for cable modem), and IIS 5.0 for several web sites. I also use it as a file server. I usually leave it just sitting there and just update things every once in a while. I don't even have a monitor hooked to it. Should I hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and click the "lock computer" or log out? Would this make it more secure somehow to hacks? I haven't had any problems yet, but I just want it secure as possible.

Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,

Hi,
I recently added a second user account (my son) and added passwords to both mine and his accounts. Now, after a period of about 2 or 3 minutes of no keyboard or mouse activity the system logs off by itself (the programs keep running in the background), and its really frustrating having to keep putting in the password. How can I change the length of time before it logs off automatically?

Answer:Automatic Logoff Time

Hi 16hollywood, and welcome to BleepingComputer.

If you go to the Control panel and open Power Options, how much time does it show before the monitor shuts down? If it is set to two or three minutes increase the time to a more realistic amount for yourselves.

If you click on the Hibernate tap at the top, you can uncheck the enable Hibernation, this may solve the problem.

Hi,

Appreciate if anyone could advise me on this persistent problem that I am experiencing.

Everytime when I start up my com or when I execute the Task Manager, the date and time will be automatically reset to 29th Jan 2000, 12.00am.

I've tried running virus scan using Trend Micro Office Scan with the latest updates as well as Trend Micro's online virus scan Housecall. I've also scan using Ad aware 2007 but the problem still persist.

Any advice on this matter?

right click on clock(lower right hand corner) click adjust date/time>make sure zone is correct>then click internet time tab>should say this computer is set to synchronize
with 'time.windows.com', if not then click change settings (check synchronize with internet time server if not checked) then click update now.

Hope this fixes your problem.

After about 15 minutes of inactivity, XP automatically logs me out, but keeps any programs running. I see the beauty of this in a network or office environment, but here in my basement, with nobody here but me, it's just a nuisance to have to log back on again any time I leave for a bit...

How do I set the idle time to something higher, so it will only log me out if I'm inactive for maybe an hour? Or maybe never? Didn't find anything about it in help or MMC.

Hello, I like seeing AM/PM on any time value. I already know if it's AM or PM, but it looks more Proper to see the AM or the PM with whatever time it is.

What Registry modification/Program can help me achieve this?

Thanks

Answer:AM/PM For The Time At The Lock Screen

You can change the time format, how time is shown on Windows notification area freely but AM / PM is regardless of your settings never shown in Windows Clock and lock screen if 24 hour clock has been selected.

To change how time is shown on Windows desktop, select Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Region, click Additional settings:

Now change time formats manually typing any of the following values for short time. Add :ss for long time for seconds:

h:mm
12 hour clock, no leading zero, no AM / PM

h:mm tt
12 hour clock, no leading zero, with AM / PM

hh:mm
12 hour clock, with leading zero, no AM / PM

hh:mm tt
12 hour clock, with leading zero, with AM / PM

H:mm
24 hour clock, no leading zero, no AM / PM

H:mm tt
24 hour clock, no leading zero, with AM / PM

HH:mm
24 hour clock, with leading zero, no AM / PM

HH:mm tt
24 hour clock, with leading zero, with AM / PM

Here I have selected 24 hour clock with AM / PM, but it's only shown in notification area. Opening clock does not show AM / PM, nor does lock screen, whatever settings I have chosen as long as I am using 24 hour clock:

Using 12 hour clock AM / PM is always shown in Clock and lock screen if selected.

Is there any way to keep the lock screen from shutting me down if I don't do anything on the keyboard for a minute or 2 minutes, or whatever it is? I followed some instructions that I found on the internet that involve adding ".bak" or ".backup" to the lock screen file in "SystemApps" but it didn't have any effect. Then I clicked on "Settings" in the Start menu and got totally lost in all that stuff.

Hi guys,

I've always wondered if running a manual automatic update (XP, Vista, 7) while you have auto updates turned on would slow things down? Often times I'm updating manually and then the icon pops up saying it is downloading or there are updates ready. Does Windows Update detect if there's already an update going or will it re-download the entire update?

Answer:Automatic and Manual Windows Update at same time?

If the auto update has already started downloading and then you manually start a the download, you will get a screen to install and then it will fail out. Then the other will kick in and do the install.

I do NOT like the fact the the auto update does not give the user and indication that it is being done.

Is it typical that every time I shut down there is an automatic update (1of 1) waiting to be installed.

It seems to install okay and then shuts down but it just seems unusual. Now I did just recently (two weeks ago or so) install Windows 7 for the first time.

Answer:Windows Updates, Automatic Every time I shut down?

Could you go into windows updates and copy and post the update here. Just curious what the update is.

Are you saying the SAME update is downloaded, installed, reboot. Then the SAME update is there again?

Automatic insertion of Date/Time in a MS Word
Automatic insertion of Date/Time in a MS Word LOG File every time the file is open.

Hello, what I am looking to do is a trick I learned to do with a "text document" and I would like to do the something in a "MS Word document".
The trick that the "text document" does is that if you add ( .LOG ) at the top of a "new blank text document" and then "save" it... you will then have a "text document" that every time you open it... it will insert the date/time line under what had been written.
That's what I want to do with an MS Word document

Answer:Automatic insertion of Date/Time in a MS Word

I think you would need to add something like this to your document in VBA

Code:
Private Sub Document_Open()
Ins_Date_End
End Sub

Sub Ins_Date_End()
Dim doc As Document
Set doc = ActiveDocument
doc.Range.InsertParagraphAfter
doc.Range.InsertAfter Date & " " & Time
End Sub

You'd need to make the document a macro enabled document (docm) and also ensure you've allowed macros to run.

Hello, I used to use a reg file for Windows 8.1 to customize the time until the screen turns off during the Lock Screen Time Out. I want to know if that command still applies for Windows 10.

The reg file command is:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Lock Screen]
"SlideshowDuration"=dword:000493e0
(where the screen turns off after 5 minutes).

I have the formula to figure out what you need to calculate to insert after "dword" for the amount of time until the screen times out (goes black). Ask me for the formula... as long as the above works.

Never mind. I went into the Registry and checked it out.

Since I got my current PC I've had an issue where it would occassionally completely lock-up, i.e. completely still image on screen, mouse wouldn't move, and it also put out a buzzing sound through the speakers/headphones. The only option was to force shutdown and start it up again. But it didn't happen that often so I wasn't bothered by it much.

However since updating to Windows 8 it is now happening about 15 minutes into use every time I turn the PC on (but after rebooting doesn't happen again until the next time I turn it on), so I'm looking for a solution now.

Has anyone seen something like this, or got any advise?

Thanks.

WOW!! Exactly what I'm seeing!!!

Usually occurs within 15 minutes of booting. Once a day only. I've had the computer off over 8 hours one day and when turned on it didn't happen... only the FIRST boot of the day. Works fine on any reboots after?

I have gotten random different BSOD's too.

I've also had days at a time when this didn't happen? I did nothing at all to change anything either. Then it starts happening again?

Things I have tried though:

Removed ANY unnecessary programs I had. This computer started with Vista, upgraded to W7, then W8 (when it started happening) and now W8.1, so I did collect a lot of 'junk'.
Stopped AutoStarting anything I didn't really need or could manually start later.

Anyone else seeing this issue? If I put my tablet into standby when I wake it I don't get the lock screen and it just goes straight to the start screen or whatever app I was using. If I put it into standby again then I'll get the lock screen the next time I wake it but then the next time it won't appear again. I've checked and it's literally every other time.

Hi,

I looking for a way to limit time on the PC - auto lock Windows after 30 minutes, even (and especially) when the computer is not idle.
When the user will log back into Windows by entering the Windows password, the counter will start again from 30 minutes.

The app should start automatically and silent with Windows, and the user should not be able to stop this app without a password.

Thanks, Nir.

I got the 1320 as a gift with WP 8. Coming from Android found it horrible. However updated it to WP 8.1 (official release) which is better than 8 but still not up to the mark.
A small but very useful feature like Automatic time update is totally missing. I find it very vexing to adjust the time manually.
Need the forums help if anyone"s 1320 have this little Auto Time update feature? Please let me know your firmware detail so that I may also install that version.

Hi, am wondering if anyone out there can help me.

I have been looking for a freeware program that automatically backs up any file that changes (to my zip drive) so that I don't have to remember to keep loading programs, or pushing buttons to perform a back up each time a file I use changes.

Am not really after a 'scheduled' program, ie every five minutes, or every hour. What I'd rather is that it monitors in the background, and performs the backup automatically the moment the file changes.

Have found a program called SecurDat that is exactly what I am after, but the newer versions (v2 onwards) are shareware. Apparently the earlier versions are freeware but I cannot find it anywhere online.

If anyone has any ideas, I would be most grateful - especially if you know the whereabouts of an earlier version of SecurDat (I believe its file name is SecDat.exe and is about 1.4mb in size). Thanks ever so much ...

Hi all,

I found that f.lux is really helpful to your eye when you look pc all day.

However, I found that the light setting doesn't gradually change according to time.

For example, at noon the setting is at the highest peak. So there is different light setting across the day time.

It would be good for night if there is automatic setting for light gradually set to the lowest at midnight.

When this happen, the word and picture look totally different and the nothing come out from the blue colour. I might as well go to sleep and continue work tomorrow.

Is there a way to set a few setting and when the time come, f.lux change the light setting? It may not be fully gradually change but at less there is different in the light setting than have it all same all day.

All help is appreciated. Thanks

Answer:F.lux: automatic setting adjusting light based on time

Hello,

I remember I've used this a while back and that the options do have a setting for a transition. However, for night mode there was no transition after the sunset was reached.

I've also tested Redshift. They have Windows versions too; drawback: the settings go in the command prompt if I remember correctly..
Redshift (software) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

What you need is not setting day/night but max/min and let's say that midnight is min, the transition should begin with midday -> max (around 6500K) and evenly going to midnight (lowest, let's say 4500K).

Back to F.Lux, there has to be an option with 'Long Transition' ON/OFF and even specifying how long that is (if possible set the transition to half a day) but in any case some testing might be required until you get it working the way you need it.

Good luck.

Not very descriptive, but so the computer goes.

Lets say I am updating a blog. And I refresh a number of times, once for each post.

Not always the same amount of refreshes, but eventually I get the spinner upper right, and the status bar says either 'Done' or 'Stopped'.

If I check email, first time fine. I close email. Over the next 2-5 hours, I open email again, close again, open again, Mozilla Thunderbird newest version, and it says cannot connect. The number of times it will work and then stop, varies.

To fix either, I reboot, no need to do anything else, and they work fine again.

I get the impression that if I have to connect to anything outside my home computer, this occurs. I haven't tried all software, but it happens with email, both browsers, and connecting to Everquest.

So it isn't just one type of site/server. Just anything outside my home computer. I'm the only user and admin.

Any ideas ?

Thanks.

I am running Windows 10 on my two home computers (laptop and desktop), and it drives me crazy that the console locks after 5 minutes and we have to enter a PIN to wake it back up. My wife has pretty much stopped using the laptop because she can't stand it. I had figured out how to disable it in Windows 8.1, but it appears they removed the option to add that to the settings in Windows 10. I have been searching the interwebs for days to try and find a solution posted somewhere and I am really surprised by the lack of complaints about this. I can't believe we're the only ones who find it maddeningly annoying. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions about what to do?

I like having my monitor power off soon after activity stops. Currently, I have it powering off after 2 minutes of inactivity. I am also very big on locking my PC when I step away. So, I also have the screen saver kick in after 2 minutes. (Of course, I never even see a screen saver because the monitor is off. And, in fact, my screen saver is set to "None". So this setting essentially means the PC is set to lock after 2 minutes.)

However, what often happens is that I'm sitting at the PC, and the monitor turns off, but I don't want it to lock. I move the mouse, and it's locked--even if I intervened within a second or two.

With Windows XP, I used to be able to use the ScreenSaverGracePeriod registry value to work around this. I've tried this with my Windows 8 system, but it doesn't work. I have tried using ScreenSaverGracePeriod as both REG_SZ and as DWORD.

Is there any way to delay the PC from locking after the monitor powers off by just a few seconds? I know I can have the monitor power off after 2 minutes but set the screen saver to 3 minutes, but I'd like to reduce the delay to a matter of seconds, if that is possible.

Answer:Delay the time between monitor off and workstation lock?

Hello Crosspatch,

I suppose one way would be to disable screen saver password protection to prevent it from basically locking the PC and asking for a password when you resume from screen saver.
Screen Saver Password Protection -Enable or Disable - Windows 7 Help Forums
The only drawback is that you would then need to lock the PC when you do want it to be password protected when unlocking. If you like, the desktop context menu added by either tutorial below can help make it easier to lock the PC.

I frequently am logging in and out of my Windows 8.1 laptop. I have a good, secure password that I use and because I'm human, sometimes I mistype it. The issue is that on these occasions, I am locked out for a good 30 seconds from attempting to
login, even for the second time.

I can understand the time delay if it were say, my 5th or 6th attempt, but for one attempt this is entirely too long. How do I go about significantly reducing this, or ideally removing it?

Thank you very much!

Basically, I have some people that would jump at the chance to hop onto an Administrator's account due to the restrictions they have. That being said, even if I leave my notebook alone for 5 minutes, I want the darn thing locked.

Just due to the fact I personally like a couple of the new Vista screensavers, is there a way to both lock and immediately start the screensaver?

Answer:Lock Vista & Start Screensaver At Same Time?

Not sure why the screensaver would play into it, but whatever.

Set the screensaver to require a password on resume (even if the screensaver doesn't kick in automagically this is the proper setting), and press Windows+L anytime to lock the workstation immediately.

Hope this helps...

So, I have searched the internet for what I am trying to find but the only thing that comes up is how to add a timer that will turn the display off after a certain time WHILE the lock-screen is on. That's not what I am asking.

What I am asking is if there is a way to auto-lock the computer after a certain amount of time. I know you can activate a screensaver after a certain amount of time, and then once touched again it will show up at the lockscreen. That's not what I want. I have the lock-screen setup to play a slideshow of pictures that I want to play when not in use. (This is a 58" touchscreen display that is used to interact with a powerpoint presentation in a public area). If I leave the desktop screensaver option on, it'll turn off the lockscreen slides. Why does that matter if the slideshow is running you may be asking? Well, I have a script on the desktop of this computer that will lock the computer with a single click. This is because when someone is done doing a presentation, I want them to be able to lock the screen immediately so that when they walk away someone can't just walk by and start messing with a wide-open computer.

So, idk if this is possible or if someone has a better solution but i'd appreciate any input.

My laptop will not restart after the Microsoft automatic update tries to install Vista SP2 (x64 home premium).
I contacted HP and they had me do a system restore to a prior day. This worked but the next time the automatic update ran, my laptop would not reboot again. The support team told me to backup my data and use my recovery disk to reinstall Vista. Is this my only option? Should I purchase an external hard drive for the backup?

My son has Dell Dimension computer running Windows Vista. He has recently had problems in that when he uses Word it appears that the Caps lock is on all the time. When he comes out of this and goes to his desktop if he tries to select another programme all the programmes on the desktop are highlighted. He runs Norton and it is not showing any problems. He has tried System restore and restore last known good configuration with no avail. Is this a virus and if so what caan be done.

Answer:Caps lock on all the time and selecting all programmes from, desktop

This may be a stupid question, but I've got to ask it... He does know how to turn caps lock off, right? If he's tried this and it still doesn't work, your description of the symptoms makes me think that there's something wrong with the caps lock key that's making the keyboard think it's being pressed. (I say that because, if you click on an item and then click on another item with the shift key pressed, the PC will select all the items between the two items clicked on - which is what seems to be happening when he clicks on shortcuts on the desktop.)

Hello,
First I want to point out that the "Play a slide show on the lock screen" is not the option that I'm looking for, since it remembers the original image that was set for the lock screen after I log back in, or restart the computer.

I am looking for an option that will always load a random picture from a certain folder to appear as my lock screen, every time the lock screen appears.
So for example, I turn on the computer and I see Image #1. I log into my account and after a few minutes I lock the computer. When I lock the computer, I want to see Image #7 as the lock screen. Now I restart the computer. Windows shuts down and starts up again. I am now at the lock screen again. I want to see Image #4. (The reason why those image numbers are like that is because they're random).

So does anyone know of an option in Windows that can do that, or a 3rd party program that can do that?

Thanks so much

Answer:Set A Random Image Every Time The Lock Screen Appears

It costs $1.99 but it sounds like exactly what you asked for:

Fan IssueI've cleaned my laptop sometime this month after about two years of use. Popped it open, blew everything, popped it back. I saw a post before posting this about removing the battery before cleaning so i'm considering going back and doing that. I usually keep it running in high performance because I use it for gaming. Core/CPU usage is almost never above 10%, currently sitting at 2%-4%. Memory is usually high because I only have a 500GB SSD, currently at 58%. The other stats (disk, network, and GPU), sit at 0 (although GPU will boost to about 60% when gaming). As the title says, I couldn't find it anywhere, but I was looking to have it so that after a set period of time Windows will automatically lock out the user (me). I'm not talking about having a screensaver come up, but I've seen it before, where it basically looks like the logon screen of XP, where you have to click on your name to go back into Windows, and type in your password again.

Can someone direct me to where I set this option? I thought it'd be in the standard haunts, but I don't see it anywhere.

Thanks!

The whole thing started to appear around 3 days ago. The problem is that everytime I boot, windows 10 stays on a weird lock screen without any buttons for a long long time. There are just 4 icons in the bottom right corner (shut down, accesibility, ethernet...) It sometimes manages to get to desktop, and sometimes not. Not sure what caused it, could be a recent windows update, not sure tho. I ran some HDD scans and everything turned out fine, also did a registry cleanup, tried disabling lock screen, and nothing seems to work. Any suggestions or solutions?

Answer:Windows 10 stuck at lock screen for a long time

Welcome to the TenForums @Taukonza

Could you please review your update history and see if any updates for Windows or Drivers were installed in last week?

You mentioned when you boot. Not sure if this is happening on restart or power on or both. If it is power on booting can I suggest a quick test. Open a command prompt (admin) and type

powercfg -h off

This will disable hibernation and in turn Fast Startup. Test. If no change you can re-enable by typing

powercfg -h on

After you boot have you reviewed your Event Viewer to see if Windows is kicking out any serious errors to the system log?

Hi,

apologies if this has been covered before somewhere else.
I am trying to remove the time and date from the lock screen. having searched I have seen several customisation options but the only one that actually covered this specifically was to make a change in regedit:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SystemProtectedUserData\S-1-5-21-x-x-x-x\AnyoneRead\LocaleInfo

this brought about issues relating to administrator accounts which seem to be a common problem with windows 8.1.
nearly all of the solutions were not available to me but I finally found I could make the change in regedit by changing ownership of the file and changing the format of the time to a space. unfortunately the date is still showing.
how can I remove the date?

further, just to clarify, does the original account I signed in with have full administrator privileges? are they disabled and need to be enabled?
ive seen the tutorial on the built in elevated administrator account, this didn't work on its own either. do some files require a change of ownership to be altered regardless of which account you are signed in with including the administrator account?

any help appreciated

thanks

I have downloaded an ipod touch 'date stamp' app, however each time you take a photo with it you have to 'fart' around with it alot / configure, it's not easy to use.

Is there a simple one out there that I can download and it will automatically be on every photo when I hit the 'camera' button and not be separate.

Thanks:wave

The 30 seconds, 1 minute, 3 minutes, 5 minutes screen time out is useless to me.
Anyone else feels my frustration? Does anyone know if Win10 will fix this?

Answer:Lock Screen Time Out: Will Windows 10 for Phone include the never option?

Lumia 630 has that option already.

So I just installed Windows 8 on my system, and it was all going smoothly, until I got to installing Steam. After I clicked through a few menus, Steam finally started to install, but the progress bar never went up. If I tried to do anything else (Open task manager, stop the installation, etc...) everything would just lock up and I couldn't do anything.

At this point my only option was to restart, so I did just that. After about an hour of waiting for Windows to boot back up, I gave up and tried to do a system repair. This failed too, so I just re-installed Windows 8. I tried this 4 times. The first few times I thought it was because I might have had incorrect chipset drivers installed, but even when I did get the correct ones, it had the same issue.

At this point my only thought is that maybe I should do all available windows updates before I start installing steam? Otherwise, I'm out of ideas for getting this to work. It's also looking like this may be some sort of hardware failure, possibly ram?

So has anyone else experienced this, or do you have advice?

Motherboard: ASUS M5A99X EVO
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2 ghz
Graphics card: HIS ATI Radeon 7770, 1 GB ram
Ram: 2 x 4GB(2 sets) G.Skill Ripjaws X series, total 16 GB

Answer:Installing Steam causes windows to lock up, long boot time

I have Windows 8 on my PC since arrival on MSDN and since then my Steam client works fine.
But yet difference is that my Win 8 is upgraded with latest updates.

Immediately after I plug in my power supply my T430s automatically boots, hits a hard error and stops requiring me to go into the BIOS to reset to the current time from the default of 01/01/2001 .... My laptop battery seems to be fine.  I can get about ~2hr of use with regular use. Has anyone else experienced this.  Any solutions?

Bump.  Anyone? I have since my opening post replaced the CMOS battery, but it has not helped.

Hello! Since the most recent build of W-10 (9879), my caps lock, num lock, and scroll lock lights do not function on either computer on which I have W-10 installed (a desktop with a USB keyboard and a laptop with an integrated keyboard). The keys still work to correctly toggle the functionality, but the keyboard lights don't work. In case it matters, my keyboard's actual backlights and my mouse's internal light (not the laser, the internal LED) are working correctly, it's just the CL, NL, and SL indicators that don't function.

Anyone have any ideas for fixing this?

Answer:Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock lights no longer function

Welcome to Windows TenForums, Vaindil.

It doesn’t seem to work on anyone’s system and there doesn’t seem to be a fix yet. You can read here into the beginning of the next page if you like.

Hey guys, I have been having a pretty major dilemma with my computer. So basically:
A few days ago (January 11, 2018), I downloaded the new windows update (forget the name every time ). It was initially working out quite well. Fast forward to like four o' clock, when I leave home for a few hours. I then come back to my computer, awakening it from its sleep, and then the lock screen is utterly broken. It appears as a white screen with red and green (maybe blue too???) lines running to and fro. My cursor as well appeared as a jumbled mess of black pixels. I have been dealing with this dilemma for the past few days (today is January 16 2018 at time of writing), and I have had no luck searching for help. If you have any knowledge of what is happening, or can offer help, then please offer it, that will be wonderful.
EDIT: Oh, forgot to include this, but I have tried a malwarebytes scan (probably at January 12, 2018), but it did not come up with anything important.

hello guys,
well it started when i tried to lock a file i went like this :
-Properties
-General
-Advanced
-Encrypt content to secure data.
a window popped out asking me to create a password but i didn't do so i just canceled the process & unchecked the
Encrypt content to secure data again.
now every time i create a folder or a file or even move it somewhere the lock icon appears again, it doesn't require any password but it's just annoying me. is there anyway to prevent it from showing again ?

thanks & yeah i use windows 10 pro.

I regularly use the 24 hour time format for all of my systems.
Its not a major issue I have now with Win10, but its annoying a bit.

Before I logon to Windows 10, the default lock screen theme has the time in 12 hour format instead of the 24 hour format.
In Windows, I set everything in 24 hour time. Period. I just don't like 12 hour time.
However, when I sign out or just by locking my screen, it does show the time in 24 hour format.
But when I reboot my system it shows the time in 12 hour format.

Is this a bug or what in Win10?

Thanks!

Answer:Win10 Default Lock Screen theme does not show 24 Hour Time

Mine shows 24 hour.

Hi, We use lync 2013 on the t431s and it works great, except that the privacy setting for the camera is always true. You can manually turn it off without any problems, but it always returns back to on. I haven't yet found out when it does this. I tried restarting lync, rebooting, login out and in, locking... no avail. But somehow, you wait a while and poof... the privacy setting is back on. Any ideas? I found a related post:- http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/Thinkpad-T530-Integrated-Camera-not-working... Extra info:- All our t431s have the same problem.- our helix devices don't have this problem.
