CPU usage 20% just moving mouse, 100% moving windows or scrolling websites!

Question: CPU usage 20% just moving mouse, 100% moving windows or scrolling websites!

Alright sooooo.

I completely reformatted my computer. I have two drives.

I deleted/created partitions on both, and chose to format/install Windows xp on the C: driver. The format got to 100%, then said the format couldn't be completely probably due to a bad hard drive. I switched out my drive for another spare I had thinking I just got unlucky and my drive had died...

To my surprise, I got the same error with a completely seperate hard drive. Trying various things, I swapped the xp disk into my other DVD-Rom on my computer and the formatting went fine!

Xp was installed, no problems. Now, however, my CPU usage spikes to 100% when doing very minimal tasks such as moving a window around the screen (computer lags, leaving traces of the window around the screen) or even scrolling up and down on a web page with the mouse wheel.

Weird thing is, I can navigate both hard drives just fine. I don't know if my CPU is dying, motherboard dying, or what... But is there anyone that can help me out with this?

I'm currently reinstalling all my drivers praying that this somehow magically fixes it

Preferred Solution: CPU usage 20% just moving mouse, 100% moving windows or scrolling websites!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Does your graphics adapter have dedicated memory and, if so, how much? If it doesn't, how much does the RAM lend to it and how much is left over?

Hi 10forums,

I've been finding this hard to describe and search for so I'm just going to upload a .gif to illustrate my problem.

I want to stop the window moving back onto the screen when the mouse is against the screen edge. Does anyone know if this is possible? Or even just what the 'feature' is called in Windows?

Much thanks

EDIT: Disabling Aero Snap will not stop this behavior.

Answer:Stop windows moving when moving the mouse to the edge of the sceen

You have to disable "Snap to border/edge". Always check the Tutorials first on here. Brink has spent a lot of time giving us the best resources on the Web.

Hi,

I was hoping you might be able to help. Since I have had a new motherboard put in I have had flickering when browsing webpages using the mouse or scrollling the page. Could it be the new graphics driver?

Sorry, I definately qualify as a newbie in this stuff.

Cheers,

Bruce

Let me say up front: this is *not* about fan noise. I know what fan noise is; I hear it like everyone else; this is something else. The noise I am posting about is hard to describe, but it comes fairly close to classic hard drive noise but it can't be that in this case because my X220 has an SSD. The noise occurs when I scroll in a window, or move the mouse across the screen. It is definitely associated with screen activity. I would love to know what it is. I have it on another laptop as well (ThinkPad T61P).

Hi,

I have recently got this problem. Every time I move my mouse on top of a program, i.e, steam or chrome, msn messenger, that program starts using up the CPU. If I move my mouse on top of steam, steam starts using like 40% of my cpu, sometimes even 50%. It depends how fast I move my mouse on top of the program, the faster I move the more CPU it uses. When I don't move the mouse its calm around 1% or 0%. I have tried everything I could, read all the forums blah blah. I reinstalled another copy of Windows Xp as well as Windows 7, the problem still occurred. I bought the thermal compound and used it on top my CPU that reduced the temperature of my CPU which was good but that still did not solve the problem. Even drivers I updated it all of them using driver checker.

My mouse is DeathAdder 1800DPI, I currently use the 3.01 driver and 1.36 firmware and below I will post my computer spec. Someone please help me I have been trying to fix this for the past week.

Answer:Moving Mouse uses 40% of CPU USAGE

The heat would not cause a CPU load. It's the other way around.

Can you try a different mouse on the system?

Run Malwarebytes, do a virus check.

A couple of days ago I noticed that my various games had started jerking. Animations would slow down to stop-motion at odd intervals, which I eventually discovered happened every time I moved the mouse/cursor. I opened the system-monitor and noted that the CPU usage increased drastically whenever I moved the mouse. It would go from 2% up to 100% and I can't figure out why. (See attached .jpg file)

I haven't installed anything odd recently, apart from 2 1Gb blocks of RAM to supplement the 1Gb I already had.

I freely admit that I have no idea if this is a malware or hw problem.

Answer:100% CPU usage by moving the mouse?

I fotgot to mention that the mouse is a Logitech trackball. I tried switching it from the regular port to the USB, but it made no difference.
I've checked the RAM blocks by doing the old swap thing, but that didn't make any difference either.
Formatting the C-partition and reinstalling windows didn't help either.

Hello,I am new to this so bear with me please for being an amateur to the site. Also, if anyone takes it on to help, I thank you in advance. I have an HP Compaq NX7300 laptop (3y.o.) with Intel Celeron M and I just put in a 1G memory. I am online by wireless because I live in the sticks in Czech Rep. XP PRO SP3 (Finally)I think my problem started when I accidentally deleted my WLAN adapter from "add/remove programs". I went and tried to reset it back up and then got "wireless connection 2" and all [email protected]#$ll broke loose on our web connectivity. Even for my wife's desktop oddly enough. I bought a new router and now it works fine although I haven't tried to connect by wireless on my laptop. Soon after this I tried to watch a dvd on Power DVD and it was all choppy and unwatchable. Then I realized that it was because of 100% CPU usage. I ran AVG and it showed no bugs. Looking back I think I might have made a hardware mistake...but i'm sure I had bugs before this because of scans done later.I went to the shop and the kid ran total care, saw nothing, sold me a 1G memory and off I went with still 100% CPU and couldn't watch DVD. I even get the CPU up just by moving the touchpad mouse. Any program causes the CPU to go to 100% making it UNBEARABLYYYYYYYYY SLOW. I reinstalled XP (now I have 2 OS) and realised that I didn't ever get the SP3. After battling it out for 3 days, I got the SP3 on there with all updates and it still is ... Read more

Hi.

My name is David andI have 3 issues with my Dell inspiron 1420 that I would really appreciate some help with. My computer has very high CPU usage when opening applications and moving the mouse, videos stutter frequently, and I can't use System Restore. At first I thought the CPU problem was being caused by some kind of bug so I went to the "Am I infected and what do I do?" forum. Broni, helped me and concluded it was not a malware problem. He referred me to the Malware Removal section and Gary helped me there. He also believes that it's not due to malicious stuff. Here are the links to the threads  in case you want to take a look.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/495150/erratic-cpu-usage-spikes-during-mouse-movement-and-pretty-much-anything/

Anyways, I have reset my computer back to factory settings using the recovery partition and the cpu problem still exists (but it's not as bad) and the video stuttering remains. The computer is useable now and is a lot faster when opening applications, but now I can't use the System Restore program in addition to the CPU acting weird.

So before I describe what the symptoms are, here's somewhat of a baseline taken from Task Manager when my computer is idle.

Looking at the Processes tab
System Idle Process is usually around 94 CPU
taskmgr.exe is usually around 6 CPU

I am a bit worried because my cursor started hovering over my programs when I went to click the all programs on my start button. I'm not sure why but i'm pretty sure it wasn't my mouse. The reason being my cursor started hovering up and down over programs and I think it might of clicked something. I'm not sure if it did since i shut it off directly after I saw it move. I'm not sure what to do since i use mcafee total protection and it didnt find anything.

Got rid of Vista *finally* and installed XP from the recovery disk that came with my old computer. Everything works fine apart from whenever I move a window, the whole computer lags and the screen goes 'wavy'. Same whenever I scroll down a webpage, document etc. I haven't changed anything (apart from the screen resolution).

On the subject of screen resolutions, can you change it to 1680x1050 on XP, there's no setting for it?

Answer:Lagging while moving windows and scrolling?

When you reinstalled XP - did you also reinstall all correct drivers and make sure they are updated?

Check Device Manager - make sure there are no question marks or exclamation points

Hello,

There was recently a power surge in my nieghborhood and it effected my computer. My hard drive and internet card were fried completely. When I disassembled my computer we found that the heating fan on my graphics card had broken, keep in mine the graphics card had worked perfectly fine. Also i do not use any games on my computer so the card does not undergo vigorous use. We bought the new parts and i restarted the brandnew clean hard drive and i went on the internet and did a search on google to find that when i scrolled down it moved in bars rather than a smooth flowing motion and when i minimized the screen and moved it around it lagged around quite a bit. Answer:[SOLVED] Lagging screen when scrolling/ moving windows

For the future, consider getting a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply). They include Surge Protection.

This would have prevented what happened to you, especially if you used the UPS Utility and connection so it would automatically, and safely, shutdown your system when it detects a power problem.

Just remember, a UPS is designed to ONLY keep your system powered long enough to allow safe shutdown.

Hello all... i have a bizarre problem that baffles me. It started recently where I when i would move a window, or scroll in a program, that the CPU usage would jump to between 90-100% usage and slow the computer down terribly. I've run every type of scan i could think of. Virus, malware/spyware, defragmented the drives, ran disk cleanup and scandisk. Nothing helped. The process that takes up the CPU is whichever one i am moving or whichever one i try to scroll in. Say for instance I try and scroll while looking in the C:/WINDOWS/System32 folder, the shell (i use both Windows default and Litestep) takes up the CPU, whereas if i were to move the window or try to scroll in Firefox, or another type of browser, the process for that browser would begin taking the CPU and the computer slows down. It only happens when scrolling or moving around windows and anything else is fine even watching movies and playing games works fine. Please help...

I have Windows 7 and my physical memory usage is at 2.13 GB without any programs running and just IE with the home page of Yahoo. I have 4G of memory installed however the computer seems to be running slow and maxing out resources.Example, it takes a while to scroll on webpages. The letters of typed words don't show immediately. In Microsoft Excel, it takes a while for the pointer to change when clicking between cells or on cells. It just feels slow. IE crashes a lot also.It seems this all occurred when I adjusted the display setting to the reccomended. Before they were on low resolution. I changed to 1680x1050. Certain programs look crisp and high resolution while others appear a slightly hazy/blurry.Help

Hi,

After reinstalling windows over the previous corrputed one, I'm noticing a general slowing down of the system, but in particular, when I'm scrollong down the screen or moving the windows, it does it in a sort of slow motion, at intermittence...
Could it be something due to the screen setting?
What shall I do?
thanks

Answer:scrolling and moving.... too slow

could be ram problems or windows is conflicted in some way. you can try this, clear temp files, defrag and run chkdisk, may have to do it in safe. guess to do it right i would save anything on cd and reformat do a clean install.

I have recently reinstalled XP but each time I use the scroll wheel on my mouse, in any application, horizontal lines come down the screen and the page goes up in a wobbly fashion. The arrow pointer also becomes jerky. I have defragged and also used WinSpeedup without success. Advice would be nice.

Ok this is my first post here. I have installed Windows 7 32 bit clean installs twice now on a Dell GX960 4 gig of Ram. I go to install Groupwise and Norton and I notice installs are going extremely slow, I can move the mouse and the speed seems normal. I have noticed this when I try to open the internet, move something, boot up, shut down I move the mouse and you can see the busy circle works normally, stop moving the mouse and the busy circle stutters and the machine seems really slow.
I have checked the event viewer and there is nothing there except where I have cancelled installs for office or adobe. I have checked the device manager and there is no conflicts. Deleted the Dell Laser mouse and rebooted, it reinstalled and still same issues.
I have installed this on 2 laptops and have no issues with them, they actually run GREAT! Decided to do my office machine and well, it is not going as smooth

Any ideas would be helpful. Anyone seen this before??

Thanks,
Doug

You said Norton. Whatever Norton app that is, completely remove it from your system by uninstalling. Do not just disable it and think it's gravy. Full uninstall needed.

I use FULLSHOT. It's not free, but it's terrific. Been using it (and each of its upgraded versions) for 15 years now.

Keyboard hotkey shortcuts can be used to trigger assorted types of screenshots, so that the mouse does not have to be touched. Or, you can also use mouse clicks on a row of buttons superimposed on the right side of the titlebar in whichever window has the focus. GUI windows that don't have a title bar but that have the focus require use of the keyboard hotkeys to accomplish screenshots.

You can try it out for free and decide for yourself if it meets your needs.

Hi,

I have a problem never seen before on other computers. It comes on a Vista preinstalled MSI notebook:
- if I want to move a window. I need to click onto the window title bar, and move to the destination and click again to release the mouse. It comes in browsing too. If I want to move down the scroll bar I need just click once then if I move the mouse, the scroll bar is moving until I dont click again. Similar problem in handwriting. At the end I need to click again. So it looks to be a general setting somewhere. It is annoying. How to set up the default settings comes on all systems?

Thanks!

Gerhard.

Hi guys the other day my mouse pointer stated moving all over the place, I immediately disconnected the Internet thinking I was being remote accessed or something but it kept happening. It also disconnects my Windows firewall when I I keep checking it.
I have run malware bytes in safe mode and I am now running super malware bytes to see if that helps in safe mode. When I power up it seems ok for a while and then it starts again. When it moves and clicks it has a blue circle click point which is not normal mouse operation.
Any ideas what this could be and what I should be looking for in the system 32 files?

Answer:my mouse pointer keeps moving around and opening up windows media player

Hello -I have run malware bytes in safe mode <= Please note {almost useless}
Malwarebtyes Anti-Malware should be run in normal mode when you can as it is not designed that way. You would get a read-out, but in Safe mode all programs and features are not available to be scanned.
When it moves and clicks it has a blue circle click point which is not normal mouse operation <= This is very normal if you press the mouse wheel down by accident. Also the wheel can be located off center that will create the same effect.

I can create the same effect while just sitting and playing here.
The pointer will not "float all over the page" but it wil move the page, and the pointer up and down.

Is your mouse a bit old or a bit stiff in its actions. Please try to hold the scroller down at random times, move the mouse pad, and try to recreate the same problems.
Also try this with another mouse .........

Thank You -

About a few days ago out of the blue for no reason or warning, when i'd start up my laptop it would work fine but after i'd log in the whole system would just freeze after a few minutes, other times instantly after log in. When it freezes it doesn't give me a chance for the start up programs, like my printer software, to load. The mouse would slow down, stop working, or disappear entirely while the keyboard will become useless but the power button would still work. If I do a reset cycle the same issue would just pop up again. I have tried letting it run, I can use it for a bit and copy over some files to a usb but the transfer would get stuck at 99% for ages, eventually process will finish but then after it will lock up.
I am very concerned as I have a few files on there that i need to access.
I have tried uninstalling a few programs, and turning on without wifi but no luck. However on January 11th I was able to use it for the entire afternoon but the next day the freezing came back and still occurs.
I have also tried a System Restore but it just gets stuck at 8%

All browsers on my computer suddenly can not display the moving words (those with a quote or sentence moving from left to right or the other way) on any website.

Ex. seamless.com.

My browser can't display the background picture (showing sushi) and the moving contents on the right.

This applies to all my browsers, so i don't think it's a browser issue.

Anyone knows what goes wrong? Thanks a lot.

I have a client that has to regularly move emails from his inbox to a PST on his company shared drive. Moving files under 100kbs seem fine but this client needs to regularly move emails upwards of 5Mbs in size to his PST on the share. When he does move these files his outlook gets hung up to the point of completely freezing everything on his computer just to move the email. It can take upwards of 10-20 minutes to move one file.

The troubleshooting I have performed:
-I tried setting his network adapter to 100 Mbs Full Duplex, didn't appear to do anything
-Speed test his connection, he is running about 1.2-1.5 Mb down and 1.5+ Upload, so no issue there.
-I tested moving a 15Mb file to his shared drive, this seemed to be uploading fine, after a minute or 2 it was nearly half done, so this leads me to believe the issue is more pertaining to outlook.
-I then killed his outlook profile, recreated him a new one and remapped the PSTs.
-Had him test moving files again, and the same issue is still occurring.
-The client also reports this was not always an issue and had recently started happening.

At this point I am stuck and would like any advise anyone may have to offer for a solution.

Hi everyone.
I just bought a new SSD.
I plan to whipe my old drive and put the OS onto the SSD. On my current drive I quite a few games.

The question I have is about backing up games/moving the files.
I have steam, origin and battlenet. I tried to use steam back up before, it stopped working and now I have a file that I can not delete.

I have not found a battlenet backup, or an Origin backup.
Due to all of the games being digital, I do not want to spend a day downloading all of my games over again.

The question I have:
Is it possible to move the files (i.e. programx86 --> steamapps) onto my external, then when the clean install is done, move the files back to the same location?

Is this a viable/possible solution, or what would you recommend I do to spare my data cap/time?

Thanks all.

Answer:Moving files to external, formatting then moving back.

If your system is working well the best way to do this is to take an image of the old drive and then restore it back to the SSD, or simply direct clone the old drive onto the SSD. I've had good results with Aomei Backupper to do this. If SSD space is a problem you could remove data and unused progs first, and do disk cleanup.

If the system is on its last leg, you're probably going to have to reinstall the progs onto a fresh install of Win7 on the SSD.

In either case, back up your valuable personal data.

My laptop will unexpectly move the mouse to the upper right hand corner. It will also occasionally open up the action center window or settings windows. It also sometime dims the display. This has been very frustrating. I have tried a lot of recommendations online but nothing appears to work. Also while it is doing this I notice circles on the right had side of the display that come and go. It is almost like someone is controlling my laptop.

Hello all

today I was bored so I randomly opened taskmanager and went to the performance-tab. My CPU usage was 30% in taskmanager when moving around my mouse cursor randomly (not opening anything, clicking anything etc). Then I had to do something downstairs, so went downstrairs with the performance-tab still opened, came back and saw that the CPU usage was 1%. But as soon as I moved my mouse the CPU usage went up from 1% to 30% in no-time. Though my laptop has no problems at all performance-related.

is it normal that the CPU usage goes up so high just because you're moving the cursor?

Specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 @2.2 GHz
4 GB RAM DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 240m 1 GB

edit: and ofcourse Windows 7 Home Premium (x64)

Please please someone help.

I can find all over the internet five years worth of people that cannot watch videos, download, buffer, or even load pages unless they are constantly moving their mouse.

If I click a video on youtube or anything I have to tickle my mouse pad constantly or video freezes and only audio plays.

When downloading anything I have to constantly move mouse/cursor or it pauses.

Although this problem is raised in forum after forum, and question area - not one of them has the answer - and the threads just get closed off. Can anyone actually answer this one?

Did anyone anywhere ever get this sorted and can they come back and say what they did to resolve it please?

New laptop, only a few months old - Windows Seven Home Premium.

Scanned and nothingthere wrong - as did everyone else.

Please do not close the thread until we get a solution...

Thank you for reading - Julietstorm.

P.s. Here is a typical thread of which there are many that has been closed without a resolution being posted. Please don't close this thread, please could tech guy be the first to actually solve this in five years?

Good day everyone,

I would just like to mention that this beautiful machine of mine is 5-6 years old, so I'd understand if it's beyond repair, but I'd like to see if this problem could be fixed anyway.

For quite a while now, I've been experiencing some frame rate lag, whoever, it only lags whenever there's movement (For example, if flying a plane in a video game, I would experience screen tearing, but would be fine if I would just be sitting there with the plane doing nothing.)

I would be experiencing the same thing while watching videos, once again lagging whenever there would be movement, but would be fine if it was just some dude talking for example. Also, while watching a video on youtube, it would sometimes jump to 60% CPU usage, but would stay around 25-30% usage most of the time while the video is playing.

And just moving the cursor around makes the CPU usage jump to 50%. When idle, it's stays around 5-8%. Is this normal?

Would all of these be caused by a faulty CPU, or is it just the fact that the computer is slowly dieing of old age?

Thank you so much in advance for the help, and hope you guys had a merry Christmas and a happy new year. :P

P.S. Sorry if this wasn't posted in the right section.

Answer:CPU usage jumps to 50% when moving cursor around.

Not sure where to put this, but I figure its probably a software problem so here goes.

I have 5 hard drives in this PC, and I often move files around, move them onto external hard drives, burn them, etc...

When I do, the CPU usage on one of my processors jumps up to 100%, leaving the other alone. There is no process using the CPU at all, it just jumps up there for no apparent reason.

Any music playing in the background slows way down to the point where its just clicks and pops coming out of the speakers.

Even if I do a stress test on the CPU, the music keeps chugging along. The only time this happens is when I try to access files off one of the hard drives. Its frustrating to me because it hinders my ability to multitask on the computer, and it never used to do this. I can't even think of anything I could have installed recently that would cause it to do this.

I've run all the usual virus scans / anti-spyware stuff and nada. There are no programs or processes running that I don't recognize.

If anyone has any idea *** is up with my computer, it would be greatly appreciated if they could clue me in.

Specs should be on the left under "My System"

Answer:CPU Usage Spikes when moving files

It's not clear for me if you have a dual-core processor, or two processors, or Hyper-Threading enabled. Anyway, since only one CPU spikes up, I can draw the conclusion that multitasking is OK.
But since it affects music playing I'd suggest you check DMA settings of the drives. If the problem is related to one single HDD, you are in luck - just re-enable Ultra DMA Support for it. You can get enough info on how to do that here: http://www.real-knowledge.com/dma.htm
See if this helps ya :)

Can't scroll by holding middle mouse and moving mouse in IE in the latest build. Anyone has the same issue?

Answer:Can't scroll by holding middle mouse and moving mouse in IE

Does it cause a view of all open apps to come up? That was happening to me before.
If your mouse is a Microsoft mouse, go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Mouse -> Mouse and Keyboard Center tab and click on "Click here to change Microsoft mouse settings." From there you can set your wheel button to "Middle-click" to make it behave as normal.
If that's not the problem, then I'm not sure.

Hi,

For the last 3 to 4 weeks every time I boot up my computer my mouse is pulsating and moving across the screen from right to left. This activity lasts for about 5 minutes and everything is then fine. When it is happening it is so annoying trying to open and close programs. I have tried uninstalling the mouse and rebooting, and that didn't work.

I am running XP home SP2.

Any ideas?

My mouse only moves the page up and down when near to the right side. It will not allow me to select anything.

Answer:How to fix my moving mouse please

Is this perhaps a touchpad on a laptop? If not then please give some more details such as wireless/wired mouse, what program you are in, etc. If it is a touchpad, then that behavior may be normal Many touchpads are meant to do that, it's an easy way of scrollingmessage edited by THX 1138

My mouse has started moving around of it's own accord. We can be using the mouse when all of a sudden it will start moving around all over the screen (quite slowly) and you can't make it stop until it's ready. We've bought a new laser mouse but it doesn't make any difference. Have run several scans for viruses and now don't have any. Anybody got any ideas? (system is on Windows XP Home).

Answer:Help! Our mouse keeps moving on it's own!

what kind of mouse pad are you using? try using a white sheet of paper and see if it still moves on its own.

Question: Moving mouse

Just thought I'd inquire about a moving mouse on Dell latitude laptop d610. It moves form one side of the screen to the other and then returns. Sometimes it moves only halfway across the screen. I thought @ first someone was using remote access fooling around. The user is using an external usb mouse with a docking station. Should I just replace the mouse or suspect something different?

Hi guys, wondering if anyone can identify my problem? I'm not brilliant on computers, I just point and click. I have a HP laptop which has Vista on it. The other day my mouse randomly stopped moving. The light is still on on the bottom, but the light on the wheel went off. I didn't think this was serious and the mouse was just broken, so I went out and bought a new one today. But I have exactly the same problem. I've cleaned out the port, but nothing.Any ideas? Cheers.

I'm using my intuos 4 to move around, but my mouse won't even click, or move for that matter? My other mouse can move, however, it can't click. I'm trying to use my current mouse, but it doesn't work at all? I've been trying all day, mostly because I really want to game out for the rest of it, but I've tried using a different port, reconnecting it, uninstalling it, disabling and enabling it, and nothing seems to work? Should I wait until I can get a new mouse, or is there a solution to this problem? I've also tried the most obvious, restarting my computer..?

My OS is Windows 7, and I've tried my mouse on another computer, it does work. Just not on this computer, I guess?

Answer:Mouse is on, but isn't moving at all?

If it doesn't work on multiple computers its broken then and needs to be replaced.

This may be addressed somewhere else, but whenever I searched this problem I came up with a ton of posts about the opposite issue.

When I watch a video, in any player (vlc, zoom, windows media, quicktime) it starts to lag after a few seconds until I move the mouse. If I keep moving the mouse the video will not lag.

I've had this problem on many filetypes (mkv, mp4, avi) but oddly enough it is also present during flash videos.

As you can see from my system profile my computer should be able to handle most anything just fine. I'm running this monitor at 1920 x 1080.

This is a dual monitor setup, but I don't think that should affect it.

I change all of the power saving options so they wouldn't slow down when I wasn't active (thought the PCI-E setting might do the trick) but to no avail.

If anything this problem seems to be getting worse over time.

Please let me know if you have an idea of what the problem might be, or if you require information to help.

Please note that my entire system profile is in my techspot account.
Thanks

Answer:Video lag when mouse is not moving

Mouse is USB I'm assuming.. I'm sure you've already tried a different usb port, if it's plugged into a hub - plug directly into the system. if it's plugged into one of the usb3.0 ports, move it to a 2.0 port. See if issue persists. if so, I'm going to blame a chipset driver, or a software driver for the mouse. if you've recently updated either of those drivers, roll them back. See if issue persists. If so try a different mouse - maybe, maybe it's an issue directly with the mouse. Try the mouse in a different system, see if issue is then on other system. Try these things & post back, I'm curious on this one. Hope this helps, take care!

My mouse starts moving and clicking on its own on Windows 7. At first I though it was a virus (Im still not convinced its not) but in the malware section I have been told there is no malware and I should come here.

After one update on Windows 7 the cursor starts moving and clicking on its own like crazy, making it impossible to even click one button. It happens every time I update the system. I have tried installing all the updated drivers and then update, or update before installing any drivers. Same result, after update and reboot cursor goes on its own. I have tried a different mouse, same results.

Anyone has any idea what it could be?

Hi everyone, my father-in-law is having a problem with his computer and I'm hoping someone can give us some advice!
He uses a handheld Samsung UMPC which he connects to a monitor and mouse when he gets home. When he connects the mouse, either by a USB hub or directly to the device itself, the mouse cursor moves down the screen of its own free will. Tried a different mouse and the same thing happens. Any advice? Thanks

Answer:problems with moving mouse

Odd. That type of movement typically signifies a faulty mouse. Although I've not used that type of device, so I don't know if it has any restrictions/limitations to hardware support (ie: mice).

My mouse has been moving like it is on a grid ever since i got this computer. It is not a very smooth mouse movment. Now i bought a rat 7 thinking it would fix the problem but this did not. my dpi is like 3200 when i play games and i can still notice my mouse popping into place on the screen. small amounts but enough where i can not snipe or aim at a long range in games. I've messed with every sensitivity setting every dpi setting. I reinstalled the drivers a few times for my GPU and my mouse. turned off mouse acceleration. turned off and on mouse precision. Tried the raw data settings in games. My video card is an nvidia zotac gtx 560 2gb. I heard turning off scaling in the nvidia options and i even tried that. That did not work either. It is the same for all shooters i have played on my computer (thats when you notice it the most) What could possibly be the problem and how exactly do i fix it?

hey My pc keeps freezing about 3-5 after logging on but the mouse still moves and then 5 minutes after that it restarts, ive reformatted and still nothing and ive checked for maware and just ran Hijack this here is the log attached hopefully someone can help Thanks

Answer:freezing oc but mouse moving

The entire middle section of your log is missing.

HiJackThis doesn't work properly anyway with Windows 7 64-bit, so your log is basically useless.

------------------------------------------------------------

If you've formatted the hard drive and done a clean reinstall of Windows 7 64-bit, you need to get it completely up-to-date first before you install programs and extras in that computer.

It's pretty obvious that you haven't upgraded it to SP1 and then installed the numerous post-SP1 security-related important/recommended updates.

I recently got a new wireless mouse - my old one broke - and it all worked okay. Then today, it started not moving the cursor. Left and Right click works absolutely fine. The light on the bottom of the mouse is on as well. I've tried restarting my computer and unplugging the mouse. Still no luck. Also, the touchpad works fine, so its probably not a sensitivity problem.

I probably put this thread in the wrong section, I wasn't quite sure where to put it.

Answer:Mouse not moving cursor

There isn't really a whole lot you can fix with those things. Your best bet is to take it back and get a replacement.

Answer:my mouse on my hp mini is not moving

Does the keyboard do anything? If not then the computer is frozen, if so then either you have a USB issue (if the mouse connects via usb) or your mouse is broken. To test if there is any USB issues, remove ALL other USB devices from the system and see if there is any response.

About 2 months ago I noticed that my computer was starting to slow down when I played certain games and when I watched videos. At the time my hard drive was making horrible noises, so I went and bought a brand new one thinking that was the problem and nothing has changed. Tonight however, I discovered the problem. When I move my mouse around my CPU usage goes up to 30-50% from 0-5% when I am doing nothing. When I am watching videos on websites or playing games, it goes even higher causing everything to lag. Could this be a problem with my CPU itself? Or could this all be in my head and be a problem with my video card?Any input is greatly appreciated.

Answer:Slowness when moving my mouse

Have you defragged it? Ran Ad-aware by Lavasoft to make sure you haven't contracted a nasty spy/malware? Or have you run AVG free virus scanner? Or whatever anti-virus software you have on your computer?

Hardware:

Mouse - Rapoo v900 (2 month old)

i5 3550
gigabyte - B75M-D3V
corsair 8 GB RAM 1600MHz
GTX 285
Win7

450 PSU

Hey all,

my problem is: Since a few weeks my mice deactivates its selfs every few minutes while i'm using it. So if i watch videos and dont move the mice it stays connected.

What if have done so far:

updated/reinstall mouse driver
updated bios
updated win7

tried every USB Port
tried another mouse -> same problem
scanned system for viruses
PSU delivers enough Power ( deplugged the GPU )
deactivated the power-saving option for the USB-Ports

I dont think the cable is broken, because the mice is relatively new and i just bought this one, because my old one had the same problems.

Most of the times this happens:

playing some games and the mice just froze and the buttons dont work neither for a few seconds. The LEDs are still working tho. After that few seconds windows gives me that "You have disconnected something"-sound and the mice is working again. Sometimes it even goes like Bep-Boop-Bep-Bep-Boob-Bep-Boob....

pretty anoying

Please i need your help, this just drives me crazy.

Do you have any ideas?

Thanks Monty.

Randomly when I move my mouse it causes my computer to glitch. This just started in the last month and I have never have had this happen before. It even causes my music to glitch when i move it, but the odd thing is as soon as I stop moving the mouse everything moves smoothly( games, youtube, ect ). I have even restored my comp to factory settings and this is still an issue. The only thing none factory is my graphics card which I updated.

my comp stats

AMD Phenom(tm) 9650 Quad-core Processor 2.30 GHz
Ram 8.00 GB
64-bit operating system
Graphics card Nividia GeForce 9800 GTX/9800GTX+

Answer:Moving mouse causes glitches

Welcome
Could be the mouse driver
Go to search type device mangager
In device manager look for the mouse driver
If small yellow triangle is present its corrupted and must be updated
If not yellow marker try an update of driver to see if it helps
If nothing works, try another mouse to help find the cause.

Ok so need to fix a Dell Latitude the mouse pointer seems to be all over the place it moves on its own sometimes it stops other times it starts again. Im figuring its most likely something resting under the mousepad/ Joystick thing (yes it has one of those) and just causing it to go all over the place. Second thought is that it could be drivers anyone ever had this problem before?

Answer:Solved: Mouse Moving

Two things you can try. First go into Device Manager and uninstall the mousepad drivers under Mice and Pointing devices. The mouse will then freeze so you need to do a hard shutdown by pressing on the power button, then boot back up and the drivers will re-install.

If that makes no difference go into the Control Panel and find Mouse. In the mouse settings there will be a tab under which you can adjust the sensitivity on the mousepad, see if it helps the problem by reducing it to a lower setting.
