Preferred Solution: Internet Explorer process will not startup or even load

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

I am having an issue that is driving me mad and I know that others have had the same issue but I can?t really find any threads online that will help med solve the
problem.

When I open IE 11 as a regular user (no admin privileges) it does not always display the start page. The loading ?circle? on the tab keep spinning as if it is trying
to load the page but nothing happens. Now if I open another IE11 browser it could work perfectly in the new browser window.
It does not matter if I try another URL, it does not matter if I open a new tab.
If the start page does not load then no other page will load either.
Scenario 1:

I open 10 IE11 browsers and all of them load the start page perfectly

Scenario 2:
I open 10 IE11 browsers none of them could load the start page

Scenario 3:
I open 10 IE11 browser and anywhere between one to all ten of them will start page perfectly.

The issue is not the start page as I have tried with msn.com google.com, you name it I have tried it.

Protected mode is OFF.
Hardware acceleration is OFF.

This is a brand new installation and it does not matter if I do the installation once or ten times. The same issue still occur. I am running the latest Enterprise
release Win 10 OS from November 2015.
I am a senior system admin so I know what I am doing and what to look for.
In this case however, I am totally lost as I do know how what on earth could be causing the issue
If I run iexplorer.exe as an administrator ho... Read more

I did a re-install of Windows, and since then, my G-mail Notifier tries to check my e-mail before my Wifi connection is established- resulting in an error. Then about 15 seconds later, it will finally connect, and then I can select to have it re-check for an Internet Connection. It's a small, but annoying, boot-up annoyance. My browser also starts in offline mode. What's more is, the wireless network notification in the tray doesn't even appear while I'm waiting, to even say it's disconnected, it just looks as if I have no wireless adapter at all for those 15 seconds. Considering 15 seconds is how long it takes my PC to boot to desktop, it's like I'm waiting twice as long for my PC to be internet usable. Is there a way I can advance the priority during start up for loading the wireless adapter driver? Would the necessary service be the Wireless Zero Configuration service, or would it be something else?Athlon XP 3200 Barton CorenVidia Quadro4 980XGL 128MB 1GB PC3200Windows XP Professional SP2BenQ 24" FP241W LCD

I am only going to deal with one issue at a time."G-mail Notifier"Give us a link, so we know which one you are talking about.

Hi there,

I shutdown my PC as usual and when I booted it up again I only get the original desktop background picture (not the one I changed it too). The mouse works but all desktop items are gone and the only thing that works is the task manager (ctrl+alt+del) Checking the processes, explorer.exe is not running but all the usual processes (McAfee etc) are.
I tried starting explorer.exe as a new task and this didn't work.
Running in safemode I get a black screen and again no explorer.exe and I'm unable to start it in taskmgr.

I have no floppy drive on this PC and I do know that there was a repair file partitioned for me by the PC shop as it didn't come with the XP CD, but not sure I can access this.

Can anyone offer any advice or point me in the right direction??

Cheers

Neither Process Explorer nor Autoruns will display those status symbols.
Grinler's "How To Use The Startup Database." gives a good explanation of how to use BleepingComputer's Startup Database in conjunction with Autoruns.

There are several items that don't appear in process explorer (sysinternals) unless it is run as administrator.

I want to do this everytime I log in, so I placed a shortcut in the startup folder. This only works if I don't change the compatibility settings on it to run as administrator.

I suspect that during login/startup that the prompt asking if you really want to run as administrator does not work from items in the startup folder.

Is there any other way to get this going automatically?

Answer:how to run process explorer from startup folder as admin

Hello rocket777,

By default, Windows will not allow a program to "Run as administrator" at startup.

However, you could use the method in the tutorial as a workaround to do so. It basically shows you how to create an elevated shortcut to run the program, then place this elevated shortcut in your Startup folder.

Hi all,
I been having this problem for a while. When I boot up my PC and I get to the part of account login, loads my user automatically but the file explorer does not, just shows me a black screen. I can still do CTRL+ALT+DEL or CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to bring the task manager up and there is no explorer.exe running. When I try to run it myself I get an error (I can't remember the error, if it happens again, I will take a picture of it). I did a little bit of research, some pages were talking about checking the registry editor in HK_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon and check the value of Shell to be "explorer.exe" and mine it is, so that's out of the way.

I haven't found anything else, if someone knows what is causing it or any insight in how to repair it, please post it.

Thank you.

Answer:File Explorer (explorer.exe) Does Not Load Automatically At Startup.

Can you boot to Safe Mode?

From the Ctrl+Alt+Del screen, click on the power icon at lower right. Press and hold the Shift key and click on Restart.

I'm sure I can safely assume nobody has ever asked this question before (or probably even thought of why one might want such a thing!).

You see, I have this program that I made which I use to send running apps to the system tray. I use the program exclusively through explorer's desktop link "shortcut key" feature (ie. Ctrl + Alt + ?). In fact, I use the feature for two programs using the same feature. I find this to be very handy because in both cases I want to bring the programs up mostly when the desktop is obscured, or when I need to keep the mouse cursor fixed or whatever. Doesn't matter.

Thing is, once explorer is up and running you can hide those desktop shortcuts and the shortcut keys still work. I have no use for those icons on my desktop, and in fact I don't want to see them at all so I have a batch file that hides them as soon as I open up any cmd box. Problem is, if I log off then when explorer restarts it doesn't pick up the .lnk files and I have to unhide them, restart explorer then hide them again. But I know that H is just an attribute and explorer can still see the files and process them if I could only find a way to ask it to do so. I tried setting just the 'S' attribute which (according to my settings) *should* make a file invisible to me even though it is not "hidden". But either the settings are lying or there's more to making something a system file than setting the system file attribute.

If anyone knows how to achieve this (m... Read more

Answer:How to make explorer see/process a hidden desktop link at startup

If you don't need the shortcuts on the desktop why do you put them there? The keyboard command should work wherever you put the shortcut. Try creating the shortcut in the program's folder and set the keyboard command as usual via shortcut properties. Then leave the shortcut alone.

(I'm aware of the SysInternals Forum but I can't seem to get a registration e-mail out of it.)

IE can take A LOT of cpu. So I have long used Process Explorer to see which web sites are associated with the high-cpu instances of IE. (It's not a perfect technique as it does not identify which site is the culprit, but at least it narrows it down.)

But Process Explorer no longer displays the web sites (I guess it was actually displaying the titles of the windows/tabs). Now it shows me only Command Line and Path information. This may have started when not too long ago IE was updated. In any event the IE I am running now is IE10. I thought that maybe Process Explorer needed an update too but that has not helped.

I would gladly dump IE and use Chrome, which tells me exactly which tabs/sites are soaking up huge amounts of cpu, but Chrome (on my system at least) has a huge video problem. FF I don't even want to consider because it's such a disaster on my XP laptop.

So it would be great if I could just get Process Explorer to give me the IE info it used to. Any thoughts?

Thanks, Bob

Answer:Internet Explorer and SysInternals' Process Explorer

The issue is not with Process Explorer but with Internet Explorer. That only way that Process Explorer, or any other program of it's kind, can know which website a browser is displaying is by it's title bar. Since IE10 shows nothing it's title bar, at least in it's default configuration, there is nothing that Process Explorer can do. And since IE handles all tabs under the same process the title wouldn't mean much anyway. The contents of IE tabs is essentially unknowable to Process Explorer.

I don't think there is any way to do what you want with Internet Explorer, or most other browsers either.

Hi. I am having a strange problem with Windows XP SP3. It is installed on a Gateway MP6954 with 2 GB of RAM, a 100 GB HD, and an Intel Core Duo Processor (approx. 1.6 GHZ each). When I log into Windows XP if I'm in normal mode, everything is fine until Windows tries to load explorer.exe. After several minutes, it never shows up until I manually turn it own using the Task Manager and adding a New Task. I have scanned my computer in Safe Mode with the following programs:
Symantec Endpoint Protection 2007
Spybot Search-and-Destroy
MalwareByte's Anti-Malware
ATF-Cleaner

None of these programs reported any problems.

I have also looked at my HiJackThis Log and I do not see anything unusual. However, that log was generated using HiJackThis 2.0.2 and after reading the instructions to post to this forum I decided to use the DDS script provided by BleepingComputer. Any help on fixing this problem would be much appreciated.

Newbie need help here....

My computer was just hit with malware identified by my Trend Micro as BKDR_CYCBOTSM3. It was successufully detected and quarantined. However, my computer was still acting funny so I decided to tinker around and see if there are some undetected strands of malware on my PC. I use autoruns to check and see if there were any unusual running proccesses. I was able to identify a few but one really stand out - lsdelete.exe; I compared it with my other Windows XP machines autorun procces and it was not there so I decided to delete it. After rebooting my computer, explorer.exe won't load at start-up anymore. I tried forcing it to load by using run. However all I'am getting is an error saying - "windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access this item".

I tried using a different account and got the same problem. I tried logging in safe mode w/ network and explorer.exe loaded just fine. So I decided to check the registry for ...HKLM/Software/Microsoft/WindowsNT/CurrentVerion/WinLogon and it shows the correct entries (I compared it with my working windows and they're identical). As another test, I rebooted the computer to normal mode and used procexp to see if there are any foreign process running that would stop explorer.exe from loading but found none. I even went far as to replacing the explorer.exe with a one that I knew was working but still the same problem.

Is kind of annoying that each time I minimize internet explorer and the current tab or web page is not load as the current web page if I have many other internet explorer tab opened after maximize again. I have to manually move the mouse pointer to the right internet explorer tab and select it or press the tab button.

Is there anyway to load the current internet explorer tab after minimize and maximize again?

I'm not really sure whether this is the right area for me to start this thread, as the problem stems from a virus, however I beliee I have removed the virus so I figured that I should post in this area of the forum.

A few days ago, avg resident shield was continuously alerting me of a virus on my system affecting the winlogon.exe and the explorer.exe files. Although AVG protected me from the virus, the alerts were really annoying, so I began removing it, I will now describe the steps I took to remove it:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- I began by booting into safe mode, and running a virus scan. The virus scan showed the infected system files, however it couldn't remove the vrus, because it had infected critical files. On the virus scan results I noticed an error, stating that it couldn't scan a file because it was locked. I investigated the file, which was a hidden file in the C:\documents and settings\****\Settings (or something similar). I looked at it's last modification date, and it was the same day as I was looking at it, so I figured it was the virus file.
I deleted it and rebooted.
My PC blue-screened with a system critical error, saying that it couldn't start winlogon.exe or words to that effect.
I booted into BartPE and looked for the winlogon.exe file on the hard drive. Both winlogon.exe and explorer.exe had been removed, presumably by ther virus.
I copied the winlogon.ex_ and explorer.ex_ files from my windows... Read more

Out of nowhere, when I started my laptop yesterday, it didn't load explorer, just the background image (no program icons, taskbar, anything). I've read several other posts of people manually running explorer and it working fine that way, but no luck with me. When I try to run explorer.exe manually I get a message saying

"Windows cannot find 'C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. Tp search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search."

I've been able to manually load AVG though, and run it. During the scan it warned me it found 2 Trojans (not while scanning though, weird?) and I moved one to the vault and another was just removed. I tried running the only version of SmitFraud I could find on my system, but I'm not sure it did any good.

Any advice?

I was just watching a video on Youtube when out of nowhere the sound freezes in a loop and i get a BSOD (first time in years!) with a PFN_LIST_CORRUPT error.

I try to reboot, but it hangs everytime. So i try a startup recovery and finally return to my desktop, only to find my system is completely glitched. The theme is all wrong, explorer windows won't load, aswell as many system dialogs that depend on explorer to display them. EDIT: I'm still however perfectly able to navigate folders using the save dialogs in Firefox or Chrome.

Run SFC - nothing changes. Try to run a system restore, but whatever happened between the BSOD and the startup recovery also ate up all my restore points D:

I've been using this system for years now. Everything is customized to my taste and running as smoothly
as i can wish for. I'd rather install an Explorer alternative like Total Commander and run it on top of this garbage than even consider a format.....

Please tell me there's a way to fix this!

Hi,

I don't know what happen with my pc that it always load windows explorer (load to adobe path) at windows startup. How to solve this?

Thanks.

Answer:Unintentional Load windows explorer at startup?

You mean it opens an Explorer window at every Windows startup?
You need to check all your Startup Items as it's probably in there.

Easiest way to check, disable or remove any Startup Item is to be able to see them all in one list, and for that you need Ccleaner from here: Download CCleaner 3.09.1493 - FileHippo.com

Install it & open it.
Click on Tools in the first column.
Now click Startup in the second column.

Occasionally my IE 11 Process will become suspended. When this happens I can still use the IE window I have open but many other things stop working correctly. I've attached a screen capture from Process Explorer to show you what it looks like. I've noticed several other processes becoming suspended such as ShellExperienceHost, Search and several others. I have no idea why they are becoming suspended. I'm running Windows 10x64 Pro on a Sager NP 7378, i7 4710 processor, 16 GB of RAM...

Any ideas what's causing this?

When I open internet explorer and then close the window, the process doesn't close in the task manager processes.Eventually I have multiple instances of explorer running and after there are about 6 or 7 instances of it running and I click on a link  My internet explorer freezes. When this happens the only way I can get it to work is to manually end the processes in the task manager.  When there is only one instance of it running the pop up I click on before opens up and everything is fine again until another group of explorer instances have appeared in the processes window. and I have to go Through it all again. This has only been happening for about ten days now.I am running IE7 on a  dual core machines with Windows Vista home premium. Thanks  for any help you can give.

Answer:Internet Explorer Process Problem

Just to be sure - several times you mention "explorer," I assume that each and every time you meant to say Internet Explorer. Right?1) Do a complete virus scan.2) Download and run ccleaner: http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds/downloading-slim. Be sure that the first three items are checked for Internet Explorer on the Windows tab; select Temporary Files under System; go to Options>Advanced, deselect the first item - temp files older than 48 hours. Any other CC selections are up to you - you may want to spend a little time on their site and read the tutorials. Re-boot and try IE again.3) Try a reset on IE: from within IE, Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab, reset.4) Do you have another web browser installed - any problems with it?

For some reason when I close out of an Internet Explorer Browser window the process remains in the process manager. Thus consuming large amounts of system resources and accumulating over time. I have to go into the process manager and manual end each task. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem or what may have caused it? Thanks...

I have a few Thinkpad t60/t61s that about every 10 logins nothing happens. Looking around i have seen a few other people that have the same problem. It seems to have something to do with the scripts that automatically map network drives. Anyone else had any issues with icons and the task bar not loading after login? There are several t43 and all the desktops that login with no issue.

Recently updated to service pack 2...and then to sp3 all the while having an infected system. I tried to update to IE7 and now it only opens a window trying to connect to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=74005. It displays nothing...ever. I am using this laptop to post on this forum via Firefox, which is still usable. Before i found this forum I used spybot S&D to scan and it removed 42+ entries of various Virtumonde registry and config files. Occasionally my system will not start explorer or the majority of my startup programs.

This problem came out of the blue. When I turn on my computer, it boots fine and then the login screen comes up in windows. I am able to login, but once I do nothing happens for about 30 seconds, and then I get an error that Explorer.exe has crashed. My desktop icons never load, and neither does the Start button or toolbar. It is a completely blank screen except for my desktop wallpaper. The only way I can run programs is though the taskmanager. If i try to run explorer.exe again, it crashes right away.

System restore has not worked. Explorer.exe still crashes in safe mode.
The only recent program I installed was a program called TVants, which I have since uninstalled. I really have no idea what else to do. Spybot S&D came up clean except for a few cookies.

I am running windows xp SP3. I have posted a HJT log below.

Please, any help would be greatly appreciated. Not sure where to go from here.

Thanks!!!!

Hi,
Ive got a laptop here that encountered the PCEU virus. I removed the HDD and placed into another machine as a slave drive to run Malwarebytes. Successfully removed 14 threats and placed back into the laptop. The PCEU virus has gone but I get a CMD box on startup trying to open a random .EXE and explorer doesnt load takes you to a c:\windows\system32 cursor. Typing explorer.exe here then loads and the OS is fully usable. How do I remove that from a startup and push explorer.exe back into a startup position??

Here is what appears in the CMD Box on start. I have obviously typed the explorer.exe to get the OS to load.

Have you installed updated drivers for your system? This would include any chipset/mobo drivers, SATA drivers, video drivers, etc? Without them performance will be flakey at best.In particular, try the scan at http://www.driveragent.com/ (using IE) and see what it finds out. Then look for those drivers to update (for example, my system still needs Intel drivers for the controllers on my system - but none are available). If you can't find Vista drivers, try XP drivers in compatibility mode and Run as Administrator. But, I wouldn't update them with the XP drivers unless you have a known issue with that particular piece of hardware.Check your Device Manager and Event Viewer for signs about what needs to be updated.

Hi, slight fork of a thread in the anti virus forums below. After loading up Windows 10 (x64 Home), after about 8 minutes I am seeing a background internet explorer process iexplore.exe launch, which then launches up to 200 connections to various ips, some look like possible ad servers akamai, amazon etc. This lasts for about 3 minutes, and will maybe occur every hour or so. I thought I'd disabled all ad options I have seen in Windows 10 options including Cortana, however it seems searchui.exe may be connected to this process. I'd really appreciate if anyone could check for any background internet explorer processes running in Windows 10, either by using something equivalent of Kaspersky network monitor in your anti virus, or a third party app, thanks!

Dear Sevens Forum

Nice to meet you all

I have perfromed system recovery from my Hard-Drive on my Toshiba Laptop L50-1E8 (which was a refurbished model (I backed up some things from my documents that contained such as word documents and excels)

After hours of updating all the updates from Windows Update (one of the Last being IE11) and installing AVG 2015 professional (trial period) as well as the AVG's browser plugin.

I checked the all processes in my taskmanager to find iexplore.exe (run from C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer folder)

I found this article

Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) Preloads Websites Content in Background to Optimize Performance - AskVG

following the article, I unchecked the "Load sites and content in the background to optimize performance" and that got rid of the i.explore.exe for a while but it came back onto the list of processes of Task Manager.

I have scanned my computer with
Malwarebytes
AVG
MSShield

but found no malware.

I have downgraded IE11 to IE9 (as IE10 seem to do the same) now but still would like my fellow Window7 users is it Normal for Internet Explorer to be this intrusive in the name of "reseaching what we like to browse so that the webpages can be displayed easier"?

Answer:Internet Explorer 11 process working in background without preloading

Does anyone's IE 11 run processes without IE (or any other browser) being open and/or without
Wifi connection? is the question i wanted to ask.

I have read many of the threads on this topic but will repost, as I know you may need specific computer info. IE keeps restarting as a process when I have no browser open. I can kill the process in the task manager but it will always restart. I am constantly getting a popup from Avast AV saying a "Malicious URL has been blocked" (so far it has been showing IP address 64.111.211.158, process iexplore.exe) and Malwarebytes will also popup the same type of message, but with IP address of 64.120.141.163. As soon as I see this message I CTRL-ALT-DEL and see iexplore running as a process - I kill it but it always returns.

Hi all,

First post here, was hoping someone could help me out. My girlfriend?s HSBC account was infiltrated the other day and we have reason to believe that the fraudsters managed to get her details off of my laptop.

When accessing the HSBC log on page from IE an extra box appears that asks for the security number ? apparently this is never asked for in full. When visiting the same page via Firefox the box is no longer there.

Please refer to images on this post:

http://www.techsupportforum.com/f100...ml#post2442538

Also, since this box has appeared my IE crashes from time to time giving me the message ?IE has stopped working?
I have run AVG free and Malwarebytes, both of which give my Windows Vista laptop a clean bill of health.

I can?t seem to find any info through google and was hoping one of you could give me some pointers.

Thank you

Answer:Internet Explorer - HSBC Fraudsters? Please help - Pre-posting process followed

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.

This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute files

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?
When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall

However, if you do not have the resources to reinstall your computer and would like me to attempt to clean it, I will be happy to do so.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Please let us know what you have decided to do in your next post.

I've been using IE6 for far too long and finally decided to download IE8. On a 56k connection, 16 MB took a while, but that was alright.

So I launch the EXE and it goes through the set-up process, but during the installation it says "Downloading updates for Windows Internet Explorer 8...", and is stuck on 'Downloading' in black at the top. It's been like this for the past two hours. Does anyone know exactly what the file it's downloading is, what MB it is, and if it the connection is broken can it be resumed - or does it have to start over from the beginning?

My connection cuts out every 12 hours, so if this is a 150+ MB download and it starts from the beginning every time the program is relaunched, it's doubtful I'm going to be able to download whatever it is. If that's the case, is there anywhere I can download this massive file seperately without having it be handled through the IE8 updater process?

Answer:Internet Explorer 8 installation process taking forever.

Since you mention 150MB, that's the amount of disc space that must be available, not the update size. Until a SP is available, and depending on when the IE8 was put online any number of updates might be downloading. The connection can be resumed. Keep trying, but the only snag I can see is you don't mention your XP SP. It must be #2 or greater.

Hello. This morning I got a the "Antivirus XP 2008" Virus/malware. After following all the posts here and various other places, i used Malwarebytes' antimalware to remove it. The computer seems to be working pretty fine, and from what I can see it looks clean.

The only problem I have now is that internet explorer 7 will not load. When I try to open it, a process starts up ("iexplore.exe") in my task manager, but no window opens. I have been googling all day and tried the various "fixes" (run adaware, reset cookies/delete temp internet files/reinstalling) but nothing seems to work. Please help.

Hi all,

I really hope someone can help me out here, as this is my work box, and it will take me about a week to get everything re-installed and configured if I have to format :-(

The problem is that if I try to open windows explorer or internet explorer, they immediately crash. I suspect that this is due to spyware / virus.

I have since upgraded from service pack 2 - 3 and run scans with McAfee, Avast and SpyHunter3. Can't find anything ...
All open / save dialog boxes work fine though ... which is luckily the only way i can work now ... through firefox

You need to be running a firewall like free Sygate from http://download.com - type, sygate, in the Search box, you must be on-line to register Sygate, that is if you're not using a firewalled Router on a Network or, have another third-party firewall like Sygate installed.

Get, install, update and run free Ad-aware (and its HexDump plug-in) from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

Go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com or http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm and click the Scan Now link to run a free on-line virus scan.

Get and install the firewall then do the on-line virus scan.

I recently ran into this problem tonight...not to worry, I found a easy fix for this. Go to your "Start Menu" and click on "Control Panel". In the upper right corner in the "search" box, type: internet explorer. A list will appear that will give you several options to select. Under the heading "Internet Options", click the first link labled "change the search provider in Internet Explorer". Another box called "Internet Properties" should pop up. Once here, click on the "Advanced tab".
Then simply click on the "Reset" tab at the bottom, which is under the tab labled "Restore advanced settings". Then another box will pop up asking you to verify that you want to reset IE settings. Click "reset". Presto! Your all done...Good luck...this should fix your problem....

Answer:Internet Explorer will not load

Other things to try...

Hello thatredbullguy,

Thanks for sharing this tip! Resetting Internet Explorer can fix most problems that people experience in Internet Explorer. Before resetting IE settings, you should check to see if you can see another web page. Sometimes this message occurs because there is something wrong with a particular site and simply giving it time will fix the issue. I also recommend resetting your modem or router and see if that fixed the problem. If neither of these steps work, then reset IE settings (but be aware that you'll also have to re-install any add-ons).

Hope this helps

Cheers,
Cassandra

Hi everyone, I am having trouble opening pages in Internet Explorer in an office environment running Win Server 2008R2. The two client computers having problems are running Win7 and they are hardwired to the LAN.

When I load IE, it will not load on the first try (but if I hit refresh, it will load the page). The problem happens randomly and it happens in both secure and non-secure websites.

When it doesn't load, it gives me the standard IE error:

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including:

Internet connectivity has been lost.
The website is temporarily unavailable.
The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable.
The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's domain.
If this is an HTTPS (secure) address, click Tools, click Internet Options, click Advanced, and check to be sure the SSL and TLS protocols are enabled under the security section.

Download Hijackthis.
Create a folder on your hard drive and save it there.
Unzip the file and extract it to the folder you have created.
Scan your machine, then click on Save Log.

Post a copy back here and someone will be happy to review it.

Don't make any changes until instructed to do so.

I am unable to open internet explorer.
I had to use the remove antivir solution pro uninstall guide and it seemed to work.
However, after running the full application I am now unable to open internet explorer. I have attempted to open it in the safe mode with network and that does not work either.

All other applications seem to be working fine. I am able to access the Itunes store when the Itunes program opens so I know there isn't a connection problem.

Thanks for your help.

Hi, recently I've had a problem opening Internet Explorer. I normally use FireFox but sometimes it won't work to load streaming video so I use IE for that. But now when I go to open Internet Explorer it just keeps loading until it finally stops and says "Internet Explorer was unable to link to the Web page you requested. The page might be temporarily unavailable." If anyone has any help or suggestions on what to do it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have Vista Home Premium and recently have not been able to get Internet Explorer to boot except in safe mode. The laptop belongs to a friend of my wife's and she asked me to see what the problem is. I'm not very familiar with Vista but am learning. I tried system restore in safe mode but it doesn't appear to offer me the chance to restore to anything older than the past few days. I can't find a calendar or way to select a different restore point.
I've run an Avast scan, Spybot, Malwarebytes, and a Symantec Virus scan online but haven't a clue as to where to go from here. Sh'e had the computer for about 8 months and is usually pretty careful.
This is my first post so I'm hoping someone may have an idea. I downloaded Hijackthis and here's the log.

Hi everyone. I am hoping that maybe you can help me where my Self Support people did not. I have the distinct feeling of being "passed off". My problem is that my IE has somehow disappeared into LaLa land. If I click on the icon it's like clicking on dead space. NOTHING happens. My browser is obviously connecting but I cannot click on any links. Page not found errors. How I managed to get in here is beyond me. I can search all day long but as soon as I click a link, 5 minutes of watching it think about it only to tell me the dreadful news that the page cannot be found. I have started with the basics not knowing that IE6 was lost. I ran through several troubleshoot trees, nothing. I did a System Restore to the prior check point, nothing. I finally got frustrated and for the first time went to a live chat with a support tech (talk about dry personalities! ) Anyway, I was told to reinstall IE6 from my ISP CD. Tried doing that and was given the message 'newer version of Internet explorer already installed' and then said that the installation could not be completed. I performed a ping for my IP address and made a copy for reference. Recalling from memory of past times that I have seen my IP address, it seems to me that it is now different. This is where I have the tendency to get lost, I am a Blond when it comes to actually understanding all the stuff involved with Networking and Proxy..... I do however feel that this has something to do... Read more

hi-
IE will not load on my computer. My operating system is XP. IE opens but just opens to a white page and does nothing after that. I know I have a connection because outlook is working fine and I am able to send and recieve email. I have another computer that is connected wirelssly off of a router connected through my hard line cable internet provider which is where my computer with the problem is connected to. So, the Inernet connection is fine.
I have tried to install Firefox but it wouldn't install and gave me the following page load error:
Proxy server refused connection, firefox is confirgured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections.
Can someone help me with getting IE to work?
thank you

I had Internet Explorer 7 installed, and then decided (mistake) to install Internet Explorer 8 (beta). I didn't like it, so I did a sytem restore to the point before installing IE 8. I'm not sure if that was the best thing to do since now IE 7 opens a window, displays nothing, and then disappears. It is like it is trying to load, then gives up. I re-installed IE 7 from the Microsoft website, but the problem still occurs - no error messages - just doesn't load. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Eric

Answer:Internet Explorer Will Not Load.

I would try sfc /scannow, then do a repair on IE 7...on the the hope that it's some other file that is really the problem.

You never know with a beta, what's happening to the system.

I haven't been able to use Internet Explorer for a while. In itself, that doesn't matter to me, but I'm having some oddities with other software (like turbo lister) so I've been trying to get IE to work. This is on Windows XP Pro.First I had IE8 installed. Everytime I started it up, I would see the window for a second and then it would disappear. No error message.I uninstalled IE8, which downgraded me to IE6. IE6 came up, but the first page displayed to customize my settings remained blank. Opening a new tab, typing in a url would do nothing; the url would just disappear when I hit enter. To get rid of the "customize my settings" page I went into the registry and told IE that it had already down the "run once" command, but getting rid of that didn't help.I installed IE7, just because it was the only version left. Like 6, the homepage (which is msn.com) is blank. If I type in a URL like google.com I get a message that http://google.com is currently unavailable. With both IE6 and IE7, the close button does not work, I have to kill it through the task manager.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

1/29/07I'm running an HP zv 6100 with WIN XP Home that I purchased a little over a year ago.  I have downloaded and tried to install IE7 on several diffrent occations, each downloaded from the Microsoft web site.  Each time I install the program and restart windows the following error comes up:Error- EabServr.exe- Entry point not foundThe entry point-Getprocessimagefilenamew could not be located in the dynamic link library PSAPI.DLLThen each time I click on the IE7 icon on my desktop it creates another IE shortcut on the desktop, but fails to open the program.I've had to uninstall IE7 each time.  I've even deleted the downloaded file and re-downloaded it thinking it was corrupt, to no avail.I've done an extensive search for information with regard to this issue, but I continue to get directed to sites that want to check and repair my registry.  Although I know the issue is going to be in there somewhere none of the scans have found a problem in the DLL files (I even used the free version of Registry Mechanic).I'm not convinced that purchasing one of there programs is going to fix my problem, but at this point I'm willing to try if it's a plausable fix.I'm not familiar enough with what a DLL file is or what it does to know how to fix it so any information will be appreciated.MH

My computer was attacked by the Cassiopesa hijack which I have resolved with the help of another thread here. Thanks for the help!

My problem is that both Chrome & Explorer ended up disappearing in the process. I downladed Chrome and reinstalled it and everything is fine, but when I downloaded IE and tried to reinstall it, it tells me it is already installed and will not reload it.

I have looked in Programs, tried to find it in the ADD/Remove area in Control Panel as my intention was to uninstall and then reinstall, but it appears nowhere.

Hoping someone has a suggestion as to how to resolve.

Answer:Internet explorer 7 won't load

Basic IE troubleshooting always begins with clearing your temp files, cookies, and browsing history. To access your internet options go to your control panel and double click the icon labeled "Internet" options. Click the appropriate buttons to clear those items and try to load the program again.

If you are using IE 7 you can try to run the program without loading any add-ons to see if one of them is causing the problems. To do this, click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools and then click Internet Explorer (No Add-ons).

Or, right-click the IE 7 icon on the desktop and select "Internet Explorer without add-ons".

If those don't work try to re-register IEPROXY.DLL by clicking START --> RUN and typing regsvr32 IEPROXY.DLL and then clicking OK.

When IE disappears does IExlorer.exe show in the task manager's list of running processes?

Have any toolbars or new sofware been added recently? If so and you are using Win XP you may want to try a system restore to a previous point before the changes were made or uninstall the toolbars completely. Also disabled all Pop-Up blockers to see if that has any effect.

OK, This problem has been going on for quite a while. In short, when I open Internet Explorer, the browser opens, it tries to load the homepage (or any page for that matter) and never does. There is nothing in the status bar, and the windows logo on the top right keeps animating as though it's trying to load the page. It will keep doing this until i press Stop, where it tells me "Action Canceled." By the way, all other browsers like Firefox and Opera work without a problem. I need IE because some programs like Winamp use the IE connection, and thus do not work if IE does not work.

I have done everything I could, and nothing helped. I have deleted temporary files, I have reset the web settings. I have checked for spyware, adware, or viruses. I have tried installing internet explorer 7 which did not fix anything, so I went back to 6. I have even tried reinstalling 6 and bypassing the version check (or else it wouldnt even install since it finds a "newer version" of Internet Explorer already installed). I have tried registering the 6 or so dll files as described in one of the microsoft pages. Also, when I double click on the ie6setup.exe file, I first get the error message "A previous installation has pending work requiring a reboot. You need to restart your computer to complete that installation before running Internet
Explorer Setup. Setup will now close." So apparently, IE did not finish installing at one point or another, and... Read more

When I start the game "DiRT", press enter, the message like that, saying, that load profile is aborted, appears. Why? What I did wrong? Is this a bug in the game? I dont want to create a new profile. I wanna go on, but I can't because of this stupid issue.

Im running windows XP SP2. 2.33 GHz / 1,98 GB of RAM / NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS

I have a patch 1.2 installed to my DiRT.

Hope somebody will answer.

Cheers,
S.

What is the best alternative task manager please?

Answer:Process Explorer, Process Hacker, or System Explorer?

Process Explorer got my vote.
1, you can verify image signatures of running programs.
2, it has VirusTotal built in.
3, you can use it as a taskmanager replacement.

There is a website that users login in to resolve remote issues,
The Login screen appears, they login. All is Fine.
They Logoof the Website.
Try to Login Again and just get a white screen.
I determined the issue is caused by a cookie the website drops into IE Temporary Folder.
As I delete that cookie and the login screen again appears and they can login, but process repeats when they logout.
I searched the Internet and found the following batch file that will delete all cookies....
@echo off
set Cookies=C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\
del /q /s /f "%Cookies%"

How do I change it to just delete 1 Cookie?
The cookie would be:
C:\Users\supcbn\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\cookie:[email protected]/

My stepmom's computer has a problem loading internet explorer. after clicking on the desktop icon it tries to load for about 10 seconds then a blank webpage comes up and before it loads anything on that page an error window pops up reading this:

PROGRAM ERROR
iexplore.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows: you will need to restart the program.
an error log is being created
I did not see any evidence of an error log being created and I just close the error window after that. nothing loads. I am confused as to why this is happening. she adn I both find it quite an inconvience to open up a explorer window by going under search or something like that and having to type in the address that way. (keep in mind I made a difference between an explorer window and an Internet explorer window.) I just want to know why it is making that error log.

thank you very much in advance,

Answer:Internet Explorer doesn't load

try to reset ur browser settings > open IE > click on tools > internet options > delete cookies, delete files and clear history > click on privacy, make sure its set to medium > click on security, check if its set at medium also > go to advanced and click on restore defaults

also, check her pc's cpu usage: it should be 6% or below

u can also try to disable her firewall and check if u could browse the internet

We've been gone for 2 months and when we returned, we discovered IE won't load. We get the 'blue circle' for a few seconds, then nothing.

I've tried everything stated on this page: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/internet-explorer/ie-crashes-stops-working#ie=ie-11

Nothing changed. So, I uninstalled it, then re-installed it plus downloaded/installed all the latest Windows Updates. Still no change.

I checked in 'Programs and Features" in the Control Panel but it doesn't show up there. However it does show under C: Program files.

I have no idea what to try next. Help! (By the way, we use it seldom but I use it now and then so would prefer it worked properly.)

Answer:Internet Explorer won't load/open

If you go to the control panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off you will see it there.
If you uncheck it, this is the best way to uninstall IE.. then reboot the computer.. Then go back in here and check it again (It may revert back to the original IE that came installed with the OS, but you can check to see if this works.

Or you can open a command prompt as an admin and run the following command: msdt.exe /id IEBrowseWebDiagnostic

A very strange problem. Internet Explorer refuses to load Amazon.com but that site will load using FireFox.

Any assistance is appreciated.

Answer:Internet Explorer 7 won't load Amazon.com

Is it on your block list? Go to tools, preferences (and something else that escapes the top of my head. I use Chrome, and used to use IE)

I am having a problem loading pages in Internet Explorer. They will load fine when I first open a new window, but after a time - 15-30 minutes - when I click on a link or try to refresh I repeatedly get an "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" error.
If I open a new window the problem disappears...for another 15-30 minutes. This is getting OLD!!!
I suspect I have some kind of spyware or adware tracking my browsing, but I just ran AVG and deleted 62 items. I hoped the problem would be resolved, but alas, it is not!
Any help would be appreciated!

Hello, I am hoping you can help me. I am not really computer smart, so simple explanations/terms are much appreciated.I have a 5 year old Compaq laptop. I am running Windows XP Pro. I believe it has Internet Explorer 6. I tried to upgrade to 7 but it said I couldn't unless I had SP 2. I have a DSL connection. When I first get on-line IE will work fine, but after a short while it will stop loading graphics or parts of a page. Down at the bottom it might say "x items remaining" but the number never changes, and the rest of the stuff never loads. I visit some internet forums that have a lot of pics in them;  I know it's a lot of stuff and maybe it's too much for my computer??? But it's not just those pages that give me problems. I have a lycos email account and a lot of times I can't see the buttons (delete, reply, etc.) I log into my on-line banking and I can't see some of those buttons. My computer is pretty bare bones - all it has on it is the operating system and Norton Antivirus. That's it. In fact I just had to reload the whole system because I was attacked by some horrible virus/worm. I was hoping once I reloaded it the IE problem would go away, but it's still here. It was here before the virus and it's still here now.I know my computer's kind of old but I'm hoping there is a solution? Thanks in advance!

Answer:internet explorer 6 won't load graphics

whyy have you not got sp2?...the first thing I would do is to get it and then get IE7. and see if that cures your problems.
