Solved: BSOD 0xc000021a {fatal system error} windows xp home

Question: Solved: BSOD 0xc000021a {fatal system error} windows xp home

had one last week that was a little different and it just magically disappeared (I'm building a new computer as soon as this semester ends if this computer will last that long).

I have MOST everything backed up on an external hard drive, but when i had tried to copy the my documents folder, it kept giving me an error, and I don't remember if I copied any of it over or not. The programs are all backed up, but AFAIK any documents I had are still on there, and I'd REALLY REALLY like to make a clean sweep through the computer and get as much copied over as possible.

It's windows xp home with SP3. It started after running an AVG scan overnight and the computer went on standby during the scan. My mom tried to wake the computer up and it froze and when i rebooted it (hit the power button once and it gave me the option to shut down, restart or go to standby like it would if i had gone to the start menu and done it) it gave me a BSOD (process1_initialization_failed), and i tried again and it gave me a different BSOD (the one im posting about).

I have a recovery console.ISO on a CD that I found off of these forums and it works, but I DO NOT have the windows XP CD. It's a Dell dimension 4600 (from late 2003 hehe).

I'd rather not have to wipe the HD or buy a new one because I don't want to spend money on this computer...If I can fix it with recovery console or by getting a windows cd from someone (if i can find one) that would be ideal.

please tell me if anything else is needed...

and no I can not boot into safe mode, I've tried like 10 times, so don't even try and tell me to do that.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey all, long-time lurker here. I wanted to start off by saying thank you, as I've found the info posted here (regarding other misc. problems I've had) to be very helpful

I'll start off with my specs:
Laptop: MSI GX640
CPU: Intel Core i5-430M
Memory: DDR3 2 GBx2
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 5850 w/ 1 GB DDR5 VRAM

I don't know if any other information is necessary for this particular problem, but if there's any relevant info that I missed please do let me know.

Anyway, right now I have a problem with the above mentioned error. It first started while playing XCOM, and it pretty much happened every XCOM session thereafter, so I tried looking for some ways to DIY troubleshoot it. To that end, I've tried sfc, disk check, virus and malware scans, and also updating my drivers. All the scans didn't find anything unusual, and currently I'm pretty sure my drivers are up-to-date.

I want to add a couple of things here, just in the interest of providing as much info as possible, though I'm not sure if it will be pertinent. Anyway, for updating my drivers I used a third-party program called SlimDrivers, and I think it worked properly. I realize driver update software can be sketchy, but it had good reviews on cnet, which I suppose was as reputable a review source as I could find. But moving on, I goofed when updating my video card drivers, as I downloaded a version that, it turned out, was incompatible for my laptop. This became apparent when the top of my screen started flic... Read more

Hello all, Im new here an need some help. I am trying to fix a friends Dell Dimension 8300. It was filled with tons of viruses. I got most of them, but after a restart I keep getting the BSOD error 0xC000021A followed by Cx0000034. I can't boot into any of the options when I press F8. I still get the message regardless. His CD drive doesn't work, so I cant boot from a disk. I removed the HD and put it in an enclosure and hooked it up to my computer to try and diagnose the problem from my computer. Is there anyone that can help me Can I replace files on his HD from my Windows XP Home Edition SP2 that will make it work again?? (He is running XP home SP2). I have not added any hardware or Ram. Just Windows live onecare to remove the viruses. Thanks in advance for whoever replies!

And yes, I have search all the knowledge bases and this forum and nothing has worked so far.

Answer:BSOD 0xC000021A Fatal Error

For anyone who has or will have the same problem. Here is what I did.

I opened up the tower for the Dell 8300 and took out the HD and the CD drive. (the CD drive didnt have the right drivers and can't find them, but it ran).

I plugged the IDE cable (master) into the CD drive and power cable.

Then I plugged the Slave end of the IDE cable into the HD.

Under settings (F2) I changed all the settings to "Auto" under the drive configuration settings. And changed the boot order to boot from the CD drive.

Then I inserted the Win XP CD into the drive, and rebooted.

Then I pressed "R" after the Win XP CD loaded all the files. The "R" is the repair Win XP installation. Everything loaded onto the HD without any data loss! The computer finally boots up now. Now I just have to put it back together LOL.

Hi everyone,

My friend just began getting a fatal system error when he tries turning his computer on. It loads up all and displays the background, and then crashes. The error is a blue screen:

STOP: C0000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process System process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.

I've been unable to find anything to correct this problem. It can boot up into safe mode but not safe mode with networking capabilities (it then does the same thing). Anyone know of any solutions? Thanks!

Today i was on my computer just on AIM talking to one of my friends and for some reason I couldn't send him an Instant Message. I get that a lot, so i didnt think much of it besides restarting my computer. I did a routine restart of my CPU and when it was loading up Windows XP Home Edition, the screen went black for 5 seconds then the dreaded blue screen popped up with an Error:

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The logon windows system has failed to load. The system has shut down.

I thougt this was just a minor mistake, so i reset my computer once more. Once again, I recieved this blue screen error. I then shut my computer off and let it sit for 2 hours. I just tried to go back on about 5 more times and I am still getting the blue screen error. I tried to run windows in Safe Mode, but it wont let me access windows and I still recieve the c000021a error. I tried to run windows in multiple different ways, but I cannot access my computer. I though tit might be a virus of somesort, but there isnt any way i can check if its a virus if I cant even get onto my computer.

Is there anyway to fix this problem so I can actually get my computer working? I dont want to have to reinstall windows because I have some very important documents on my computer that I refuse to let get deleted. I would just put them on my external, but I can't seem to do that if I cant access windows.

Hello all...I never really needed any help with troubleshooting until now...

I'm running Windows XP Pro Service Pack 1

call it my first ever Blue Screen of Death...my cherry has been broken. lol.

Anyways so I get this AVG "Virus Found"...it's a Trojan. it asked me if I wanted to heal it...I did not...but my girlfriend did.

So I think she deleted the trojan along with the winlogon.exe.........OUCH.

So I come home after work and I have a Blue Screen of death waiting for me.

STOP:c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process System process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x0000022 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The System has been shut down.

So lets get to where I started troubleshooting:

1. I cannot access any of the Safe Modes or LASTKNOWNGOOD.

2. I tried Repairing the file system and that did not work by entering the startup menu.

3. I cannot boot to a Command Prompt. (FORGETABOUTIT!!!!).

4. I cannot use the ASR cause I do not have a back up disk available.

5. I do not have a second HD available. And do not want to do a clean install losing all my info.

Now seeing that I DO have the Windows CD, I CAN use the Recovery console...

so now what I need is help replacing the winlogon.exe file to actually log-on.

If I am wrong about this please correct me but I think I have an idea of whats going on.

Please help...much appreciation fellow geeks...I just cant get around this and I dod not have a sec... Read more

I have a home built computer. Windows 7 64 bit, 8 Gigs Ram. As of two days ago I can't boot into windows. I get to the colored windows logo then it restarts. Same thing in safe mode. I tried a system repair and it fails each time. Tried last known configuration and that didn't work either. I'm running out of ideas. The BSOD reads:

Hello folks

I?ve been checking some of my old hard drives to see if there are any files I need to save off them.

Unfortunately I plugged in a hard-disk that I forgot had an active Windows XP partition into my PC and it has damaged my Windows XP installation on the computer I was using.

After the Windows splash screen appears as it tries to load, I get the BSOD with the message:

?STOP: c000021a Fatal System Error?

I cannot boot Windows XP at all, Safe Mode just hangs while starting.

I went to the recovery console and tried registering Dr Watson but it wouldn't work.

I tried using the Windows XP disc to repair but it went straight to the recovery console.

I tried reinstalling XP but it has made no difference.

I put in a Windows 7 disc and tried using the repair option but it does not detect a Windows installation and comes up with an error message saying:

?MissingBootManager?

I then used the Win 7 disc and went to the Command Prompt and typed in: ?bootrec.exe /REBUILDBCD? but that detected no Windows installation either.

Does anyone know how I can rescue this please?

Many thanks in advance.

My sister's Dell desktop got the New Win31 virus(?) recently and I told her to try follow a Malware/virus cleanup on another forum. She started to go through the steps, but after she did the Msconfig and rebooted, she couldn't log back in to her account. It went to a window that asked for a login name and password, which we don't have because we never put passwords for our separate accounts.

So now, we try to search on how to bypass that window and login somehow, and read on another site to try Safe Mode. Unfortunately, now we're getting a blue screen saying,

"STOP: c000021a (Fatal System Error) The windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has been shut down."

I've tried the F8 at start up and going under Last known good configuration, but it doesn't help. So now we're stuck with the computer starting up and just going straight to the blue screen. Is there something that we can't do to fix it? We have a reinstallation CD for Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition SP2, but I don't know what to do with it and I'd like to fix the computer without erasing all the other information if possible.

I'm at a lost and my sister doesn't know anything about computers, so any sort of help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Shutdown machine as usual <shutdown>
Next morning I pushed the power button and went to BSOD - Fatal System Error c000021a.
Rebooted into Linux.
C drive is not there.
D drive is fine - Linux reads directory and files.
Boot from XP install - goes dead at 'checking hardware'
Boot from Ultimate Boot - ditto
Boot from Partition Magic - what was C is now 'unformatted'
Boot from A\Bootmaster - recovers C as a partition - with no files
XP install says 'missing OS'
XP Install and UBCD both still stall at 'checking hardware'
UBCD stalls whether at 'load recovery console' or launch 'Ultimate Boot'

Seems like everyone can 'see' C - but nothing can find the files
Partition Magic shows C as a single unformatted primary file
" " shows the Sony Recovery Partition as a primary file
" " shows an extended primary partition with these logical drives
D - NTFS files (my most essential data - already cc'd)
linux ext 3 - 21 Gig (ok to sacrifice)
linux swap - 1 Gig
linux ext 2 - 28 Gig (ok to sacrifice)

C has a few - very few - but very critical data files I need.
Can I safely convert one of the linux ext drives to a primary, load XP, and run from there while I try to recover the original C?

Any and all thoughts and suggestions most welcome.

Help!! I have a Dell desktop running Windows XP Pro SP3 (I believe the SP3 part is correct). Last week the pc did a virus scan using Avira and it found 3 items that needed fixed. I moved them to quarantine without looking exactly what they were (wish I hadn't done that now). When it was complete, I was running fine. The next morning (I left pc on) I couldn't get anything to run - click on any icon and nothing would happen, CTRL-ALT-DEL and nothing would happen, etc. So I did a hard boot and then it went into the continuous boot loop where it would get to the Windows boot screen with scroll bar and then shut down and reboot again. I did an F8 at boot and turned off Automatic Restarts on System Failure and it brought me to a BSOD with this error:

Hi guys,

The Windows Login Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The System has shut down

I am using XP SP3 on a Dell Dimension 3100c

Note I got this after using anti virus software
1) Spy bot
2) Avira
3) Suiperantispyware (I think this is what itr was called)

In forums I have seen they have suggested:
1) going into safe mode - doesn't work
2) Go back to "Last Known Configuration" - doesn't work :(
3) reinstalling/repairing XP with an installation disk - unfortunately I do not have one (came pre-installed with my computer)
4) to go into the recovery module and try chkdsk /r / fixboot/ fixmbr - neither of these worked
5) take out hard drive and put into another computer - I do not want to go near the hardware - as I am technically hardware inept. :)

Would you guys have any suggestions - I am at my wits end.

If it means going into the recovery module and stopping or starting a service - I can do that :)

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Nev, I am going to give you a link that might I repeat might help you solve this issue. However it comes with a warning: Some of the troubleshooting steps involve working in your registry. Unless you know exactly what you are doing in there I don't recommend this. 90% of the time it will only make the problem worse. That said, I'm not quite sure if you will be able to apply any of these fixes becuase you don't have an XP disk, but you might be able to do something from the recovery console. Let me know if it helps you, and if not I will look for some other ways to try to help.

I will monitor this thread throughout the day. If you resolve this problem on your own or with the info I provided please let me know so I can move on to other issues. Also please mark this thread solved using the quick tools option located at the top of this thread.

I have a 4 year old Dell Inspiron 6000 Laptop. It has been working fine for years. A short time ago, I started to get the BsoD. I was running WIN XP PRO. To rule out the hard drive, I switched to another hare drive and tried to Re-install XP PRO and have nothing but problems. I know this is a good copy, as I just used it. While loading, the install stops and tells me that different files are missing. Finally I switched to a copy of WIN XP Home and was able to get the new install finished. Now it wouldn't let me install Service pack 2. I have continued to get the BsoD. I then flashed the Laptop with the updated Bios. I still get the BsoD. To rule out the Ram, I have ordered new RAM from Dell, but has not arrived yet. The fatal system error codes changes each time. Sometimes its 0X0000001A, sometimes its C000021A. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Answer:Fatal system error codes - BsoD

Are you able to get into Windows? What about safe-mode?

If you can get into Windows, navigate to C:/Windows/minidump.

Take all files in there and compress and zip them into one .zip file. Upload that to your next post.

Also, you could have just tested your RAM instead of ordering new RAM from Dell. I advise you do to this. Download the .iso file of memtest86+, burn it to a disk, then boot from the disk and let it run a few passes on the RAM. Only have one RAM stick in at a time.

If I were you, this is what i'd do. First buy an external hard drive bigger than the one in your computer. Then, on another computer, go to this site: http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download I recommend downloading to a CD. Download the file to your desktop. Open the file and follow the instructions. On the infected computer, boot off the CD or USB stick. When it starts up, click on 'Try Ubuntu'. Transfer everything from your hard drive onto the external hard drive. Reinstall Windows and all device drivers. Hope this helps.

I recently installed 1gb or RAM in my machine with no problems and it worked for three days. Now my computer has crashed saying Windows Explorer encountered a problem. After that I held down the power button and turned off the machine. Now everytime I turn it on it runs sometimes until the welcome screen and then it will just terminate randomly with a blue screen of death. I can't get into my desktop to actually run hijack this or whatever either.

The BSOD just says it's a fatal error and it's terminated unexpectedly. I tried running in safe mode and it still randomly terminates. I did get to the desktop though in Safe Mode, but not long enough to do a system restore.

I've had SP2 installed and working fine since the day the network downloadable version went public. No problems at all. I ran Windows Update yesterday, and the only thing on their was the .NET Framework SP1.1 I *think*. So I downloaded it, and restarted when I was asked to. Got to the welcome screen... then BSOD. So I try Safe Mode with Networking. Same thing. However, I booted up fine into regular Safe Mode. Wondering if the problem fixed itself, I rebooted again, and, nope, still the BSOD. So I try Safe Mode again... and now it's giving me the same BSOD too. Well, there goes my one freaking chance to fix it.

The BSOD says the following:
STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.

I can't find anything useful on google, and I was hoping if anyone on here knew any way at all to fix this that does not involve reinstalling Windows.

Remove the .NET Framework SP1.1 patch and see if it helps...otherwise you're out of luck i guess

hello since install of the windows 7 professional operating system i have been having this error . start-up repair claims it to be a corrupt boot file but i am not so sure as i have done a format install of the windows 7 operating system twice . i can sometimes get my laptop started by using the debugging mode . this takes sometimes 20-30 attempts and cannot continue. . i have pasted below the report that windows have given me as it thinks it was an unexpected shut down . i would like to add all my drivers are upto date and would like a fix if possible asap . microsoft told me to reinstall the operating system as did a tech shop i have taken it too . also sometimes with my laptop it will unexpectedly shut down in the middle of something as if you were holding the power button and all the lights go off and takes a while to start again if anyone can help i thank you so much as my only resort now is buying a new laptop

1 - all info "should" be left intact.
2 - try everything else that you can before trying a repair install. Then next step if a repair install doesn't work is a wipe and reinstall.
3 - you cannot "restore" the user profile - you'll only have the data from it, and you can copy that to a new profile if you need to.

Can you get into Safe Mode (try tapping F8 just before the Windows splash screen appears)?

Perfmon shows that you have networking issues and Microsoft Security Essentials (MSSE) issues. I suspect that the MSSE issues will fix themselves - but we'll uninstall/reinstall just to be sure.

First, go to Device Manager...Network Adapters and right click on any of the following devices and select "Uninstall":
- Teredo
- ISATAP
- 6to4
- unknown
Once that's done, reboot the system and the devices will automatically reinstall if needed (in most cases they aren't needed and they don't come back).

Then, download a fresh copy of Microsoft Security Essentials (MSINFO32 says you're using ESET and not MSSE. Only use one antivirus and one firewall program at a time).
Uninstall your current copy of Microsoft Security Essentials.
Then install and immediately update the freshly downloaded copy.

No memory dumps are present in the uploaded files. Please do the following:

Quote:
Upload Dump Files:
Please go to C:\Windows\Minidump and zip up the contents of the folder. Then upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.
Left click on the first minidump file.
Hold down the "Shift" key and left click on the last minidump file.
Right click on the blue highlighted area and select "Send to"
Select "Compressed (zipped) folder" and note where the folder is saved.

tus of 0x00000000 (0xc00000001 0x00010710).
The system has been shut down.
This happens when i choose the option to not restart upon error, else it just keeps loop booting.

It started after i realised my HDD was acting weird so I went to do a backup, but windows said i needed to run a chkdsk first because of corrupted files. After it completed (took around 12hrs) I can no longer boot.

I can't run in safe mode or last known good configuration unfortunately.

I don't care about the OS, the biggest priority is to recover the files, I don't have another HDD or another CPU.

How can I solve the issue or salvage my files?

Thanks, Gabriel.

I hope someone can help me with this. I'm a newbie and not computer savvy so please bare with me. Our Dell laptop m1530 (vista) is showing the BSOD with the following message....STOP:c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Session Manager Initialization system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc000003a (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.
I have tried Repair Your Computer, running it in Safe Mode, and Last known Good Configuration with no success. All it does is show a blue screen with writing on it for a split second, reboots itself, and then back to BSOD. I've tried running the original DVD that came with the laptop but that doesn't seem to work either. The disc loads and then just hangs on a black screen with a white cursor. I've also tried removing and putting back the hard drive and ram sticks, but no luck.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can try next or if this problem is even fixable?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Majorgeeks!

That's a tough one, best summed up here by Andre Ziegler I think:

Bug Check 0xC000021A: STATUS_SYSTEM_PROCESS_TERMINATED

The STATUS_SYSTEM_PROCESS_TERMINATED bug check has a value of 0xC000021A. This means that an error has occurred in a crucial user-mode subsystem.

This error occurs when a user-mode subsystem, such as WinLogon or the Client Server Run-Time Subsystem (CSRSS) , has been fatally compromised and security can no longer be guaranteed . In response, the operating system switches to kernel mode. Microsoft Windows cannot run without WinLogon or CSRSS. Therefore, this is one of the few cases where the failure of a user-mode service can shut down the system.

Mismatched system files can also cause this error. This can occur if you have restored your hard disk from a backup. Some backup programs might skip restoring system files that they determine are in use.

0xc000003a = STATUS_OBJECT_PATH_NOT_FOUND

The path to the csrss.exe is wrong. Try a repair installation.Click to expand...

Vista needs a repair installation, the problem may have been caused by malware so after a repair, you'll need to check for any remaining malware.

Hi
I'm currently getting a blue screen every time I boot my laptop, even in safe mode.
I'm on a Lenovo IdeaPad U350
Windows 7 64bit
I have read a few places that it's possible that it could be a memory issue. I have taken out one stick at a time and tried booting, but I still get the same problem. Does anyone know how to fix this? I don't have another computer to use in conjunction and this model does not have a cd drive. I'll attach a picture of the blue screen. Thank you!

hi

i hope someone might have some useful suggestions to help me with a fatal problem i have just experienced with my acer travelmate 5720 (intel duel core 2ghz running vista sp2) which was running ok when it was switched off. however, when i next tried to boot up, i was met with the bsod with the following message:

STOP: c000021a (fatal system error)

the initial session process or system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000000 (0x0000001 0x00100764). the system has been shut down.

i have tried to bootup using safe mode but the system just hangs on the logon.

i have also tried to bootup using the last good configuration but the system fails to finish booting and hangs on the logon.

similarly, i have tried to boot to the c:/ prompt but again the system hangs and fails to complete the boot.

i have not tried to boot with a resue disc or reinstall the os - the hdd contains valuable data that is not backed up and which i cannot really afford to lose.

so, if anyone has so useful help or suggestions, i would be very grateful - please just do not tell me that i should have backed up my data more regularly because that i something i now already know!!!

many thanks in anticipation of some good advice.

best.

This all started when I did a windows update on march 23rd 2015 then it went to BSOD, the only way I could get past it was to F8 and choose "disable drive signature enfourcement. I tried to use safe mode and a tried to system restore but they don't work (system restrore says it failed every time I try).
I don't know if these things mean anything, but for a while I get a "You have to install ATK0100 driver" message. Also, I looked at what windows updates I got on the day this started and they were kb3035131, kb3004375 and kb3031432 (at least I think that's the ones), once I learned how to remove them and went back there were no updates for that day and couldn't find those updates.
I did a scan and this is what came up, if that helps.

This happened after I did a windows update. Also, I'm not sure if these things have anything to do with it but I have gotten a (You need to install ATK0100 Driver) message for a while but my PC worked fine. The only way I can get past the BSOD is to do F8 and click "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement" but have no sound at all. I tried to system restart but it says it failed every time I try and I can't use safe mode. I think I have a driver problem but don't really know what that means, I'm not good with computers. Please help, thanks.

P.S. Is there any way to get my PC to the way I bought it (factory reset) or whatever it's called?

Hi,

I was recently playing the Battlefront beta after installing new AMD drivers when a bsod occurred. Booting into Windows after this point has resulted in the following bsod. Unfortunately I'm unable to provide dump files as Windows is not accessible in any configuration.

The initial session process or system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x000000012f 0x000108e0)
The system has been shut down.

Note:
Due to this issue I'm unable to reach Safe Mode in any configuration.
I've also ran sfc /scannow which detected now issues
I've also tried bootrec.exe /FixMbr and /Fixboot which were succesful but did not resolve the issue.

I've ran Startup Repair several times and received this message

Quote:
If you have recently attached a device to this computer, such as a camera or portable music player, remove it and restart your computer. If you continue to see this message, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

Short of formatting I'm running out of things to try to be honest, if anyone has any more insight on this I would be very grateful.

First a little backstory:

First computer was infected with some malware that was cleaned. But when windows would load it would occasionally give me the Active Desktop Recovery screen. Clicking the button to restore the active desktop would bring up a script error, which would not clear either way you tried to answer it. But I could restore the desktop by right-clicking and going to the desktop properties. It was annoying, but after all I had gone through (as documented in other threads), with not being able to change my desktop wallpaper, and the malware infection, I wasn't in a rush to investigate it. About the same time, the computer began restarting itself automatically and unexpectedly. I rolled back a recently updated video card driver, which did not help. I was at the same time still working with someone in the malware forums to be sure I was completely cured of that and so I just kindof dealt with the restarts until I finished that. The restarts got worse and worse. When it would shut itself off and restart, it would sometimes take two or three attempts --that it would do itself -- to fully boot windows. Sometimes it would completely boot up, and others with the Active Desktop Recovery error.

It was suggested that I run some diagnostics like checkdisk on the hard drive. I did that, and it seemed like it passed although the results window wouldn't stay on screen long enough to study the report, but I believe there were no errors or bad sectors. I also chang... Read more

There are two versions of this error, the 0xc00026c indicates that win32k.sys file is missing.  The other which you have received, 0x000034 means that this file is missing.

The website Microsoft Community addresses this with a solution to replace the file from the dllcache.  You will need the installation disc to access the Recovery Console to replace the file.

Hi all,

This last saturday I turned my compuer (Dell XPS M1530 with Win7 Home Premium 32bit) off and when I turned it back on I had the BSOD with error :
"STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error} The initial session process or system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000000"

I restarted my computer numerous times and don't know what to do:
- Last know configuration: doesn't work, i still get the BSOD
- Safe Mode; doesn't work, BSOD
- Repair windows with the WinRE: the repair crashes with an error so it doesn't work
- I backed up my drive (through Acronis, as well as Windows 7) and I get the same error
- chkdsk c: /r : no errors have been found

I can't log onto windows (before anyone asks) and really don't know what to do.
I haven't installed any new drivers or new hardware or even new software on my laptop before I got the BSOD and my windows updates and drivers are up to date. My computer is protected by Eset Nod32, and I also use Superantispyware and Malbyte Antimalware and i frequently check from problems and nothing. I also clean my registry every week with CCleaner.

I think I said everything.
Please help, I'm desperate.

Hi Everyone,
I was happily on my laptop when I noticed that my virus protector TREND MICRO had popped up a box saying that a trojan had been detected and I needed to restart my computer so I did.

Anyway ever since then I can boot up but then after maybe 2 or 3 minutes I get the blue screen with the error message c000021a etc.

I am currently running in Safe Mode with Networking and apart from the fact that it all looks very ugly I am not having any problems.

I done some googling re the problem but am getting confused...I'm not in-depth computer savy at all.

Hopefully someone can help
Cheers Moira
PS: I did a system restore to no avail
PPS: just noticed that there was a Windows update that must have download automatically this afternoon - I left the laptop on while I was out.

I have a dell computer 8400. I use windows xp. My computer shuts down everytime I try to start it. It will say winlogon.exe error, if I want to report it to Microsoft. Then within 15 seconds, I get the blue screen of death. It says c000021a Fatal System Error. I have researched it, and have tried to boot from the cd rom. butttt my D cd rom is not working. The E is working....... The D hasnt worked for a while, I never had time to change the cd rom out and get another one. So I cant get the computer booted for the resourse cd. I have tried to go to the computer, to get the e cd rom to work, but by the time It comes up. the computer shuts down. I was thinking of putting another cd romm in the computer, but does it take a driver? If so, that wont work for me, because the computer wont give me any time to do anything, much less, download a driver........... The computer going into safe mode, but shuts off, no matter if I go to the prompt or other options...... Can someone please help me. Thanks

Everything ran smooth upon installation, so I restarted the computer as it suggested. Now, windows will not boot and it blue screens to "windows fatal error".

On trying to install windows, all the file copying went well. Restarted my computer, and windows ran finishing up the second half of the installation. Then, I get an error that states the following:

Fatal Error:
One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed.

Installation Failed: D:\ROOT\XPHO\1386\asms.
Error message: Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

If it is just a CD error, is there any way to download a Windows XP Home OEM and burn it to a disc and run it from CD-ROM? Or can I try copying the CD and see if it fixes the error? Or are there any other solutions that I am not seeing?

Answer:Windows XP Home OEM encountering fatal error on install

A cyclic redundancy error is an indication of corruption in the file.

If you are using a legitimate Microsoft or OEM CD (not burned), try cleaning it.

For any other type of media we cannot help you.

Hi, Using Firefox (3.5.10) has become a nightmare for me. I realize it's way out of date but all sites still at least function with it, I just end up having to close it in task manager. All updates after this version are a real pain, making everything super sluggish. Although I've found a great, acceptable alternative in K-Meleon, I still like to use Firefox to post comments on youtube occasionally which can't be done in K-Meleon (1.5.4). Probably a lot of face palming going on right now, get ready for more!... My computer is ancient. I have been receiving the following blue screen error:

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000034 (0x00000000 0x0000000)
The system has been shutdown.

I primarily get this error when I run Ad-Aware SE Personal, I believe because it checks the dll files. I believe this is connected to winlogon.exe, as I recieve a message when I start up my computer saying that it has failed.

I kept my computer on over night and I accidentally hit the print screen button. I have a special program called 'Greenshot' so it overlays the screen with a grid region selector and lets you drag and save. I didn't drag and save so I left it like that over night.

As soon as I woke the computer up it froze the entire screen nothing could be down. Also a message pop up about failed nvidia drivers. I decided to just force reset my computer since their was nothing I could do.

Boot it up and got all the way to the logo and loading screen. A few seconds after I BSOD with the error 0xc000021a.

Reset the computer and the auto repair screen came up. I won't let me reinstall windows w/ keeping personal files, safe mode doesn't help nor does the force drivers option, I have no idea if windows have "Boot from last known boot" or have it verity all system64 files like windows 7. Nothing work in the repair menu but the command prompt which is label X Drive instead of C drive by default.

I heard windows 10 likes to secretly update bios so I don't know it that could be the problem. Anyways I have had boot loops in the past where if I plug too many usb devices in the back IO panel the computer will just boot loop.

Thankfully I have a secondary laptop to report my issues on.
My problem is located on my Vizio all in One PC. Model is CA 27.  I am running windows 8.  Installed from windows store.
Using microsoft security essentials.  I do not have any other antivirus program or software installed.

I received notification that updates were available and ready for installation (I have the computer notifying me when windows updates are available for installation) - all other program updates are a notification only, I believe.

So, I hit the install updates and restart pc. Once the pc initiated the restart phase, the black screen with windows logo appears, with the spinning circle.  It then shoots to a blue screen with the following message:  Your PC ran into a problem restarting.  We are collecting information for you (then the percentage bar of information collection).  Below this notification is the following BSOD errorr number:  0xc000021a.
It then loops to Preparing Automatic Repair, Diagnosing your PC, then sends me to Blue Screen of Automatic Repair:  Your PC did not start correctly.  Press restart to restart your PC, which can somtimes fix the problem.  You can also press advnaced option to try othe roptions to repair your PC.

I hit restart and it loops back again (reread my beginning post).
I hit advanced options, I have continue, troubleshoot and turn off PC.
So when I hit continue, it loops back t... Read more

Hi,
I have been struggling with error 0xc000021a for a while now and can not find a way to fix the issue. I tried using sfc /scannow, but all I get is a message saying:

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix someof them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Forexample C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently notsupported in offline servicing scenarios.

the sfcdetails is attached.

I also tried using dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth , but get Error: 3017 when at around 75% during the process.

dism log file is attached as well

I tried resetting my laptop, but get Error: There was a problem resetting your pc

The only way I have found to get past error 0xc000021a is to disable driver signature enforcement, but this is only a temporary solution. Every time I restart or reboot my pc it will give me the error which is really annoying. I have went through the repair my computer scans many times and every time it will say that it couldn't repair the pc. The hardware scans never find any issues as well.

This morning, I needed to check my emails so tried booting up my laptop only for the BSOD saying "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We are just collecting some error info and then we will restart for you." I allow it to reach 100% but whenever it starts to restart my laptop just freezes. No matter how many times I boot my computer this always seem to happen which is why I am unable to follow the BSOD posting instructions. Is there anyway I can fix this as I need certain data that is on my hard drive?

Have this odd behavior appear recently.

Get random freeze ups, screen corrupts then I get a BSOD, when rebooting from the stop system won't reboot and I have to leave it set for five minutes or so.

Except for that system runs fine. No drive issues or program errors due to corrupted memory

Things I've done - checked hardware like fans and all are working. I also made sure all the dust and gunk was blown out of the case. I did recently update my AMD video drivers so I rolled those back. Was getting an error about aoddriver 4.01 not being found so I fixed that issue after I ran the perfmon - I removed the entry from device manager and deleted the keys in the registry.

Hope I can get some helpful info as to what to look at to fix this permanently.

Some of the stop codes I've gotten when I can see them:

0x0000007F
0x0000008E
0x0000007E

also had a stop on classpnp.sys

but there is no pattern to the stop codes. Just today I had the "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" stop error

I have a bootable USB with Windows 10, and another hard-drive plugged in running Windows 7. I have used the W7 boot to save my personal files which is lucky.

What I have tried:
- Boot to safe mode, disable driver signature
- Bootable USB -> "sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=g:\windows" returns "Microsoft Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation"
- Registry replaced with backups

The SSD seems 'healthy'. Screenshot. CHKDSK passed but "failed to transfer log messages status 50". Are there logs I can locate manually on the troublesome drive and upload?

Any help would be appreciated, let me know if I can provide more information.

I'm having a problem with my sister in law's computer. Originally, she had that annoying XP 2008 virus/spyware, which I think I managed to get rid of with Malwarebytes' Anti Malware and System Mechanic 7. Now I have a new problem. After receiving a recent download from microsoft, upon restarting, I get the blue screen of death with this message;

STOP: C000021a (Fatal System Error) The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000)

I can't get anywhere into Windows, I've done F2, F8, F12, everything I could think of without risking more damage since I'm not trained for this. I've booted from the system mechanic CD with the Hard Drive recovery, and while it said it found and fixed a problem, it didn't fix this one. I have no windows CD. The computer is a Dell, and it's running Windows XP service pack 2 with Explorer 6. Heeeeeelp! Other than the F keys, I can't get anywhere with this computer.

Yesterday, our computer around 6PM got a fake antivirus virus that popped up and installed automatically. I went and removed it off my computer. That one was called "Malware Doctor". Later, about 2 hours later, I got another one that popped up on my task bar called "Antivirus 2010". That one didnt install and I removed it. Today i started up our computer, and I got Antivirus 2010 again. I exited out of it, and removed it. Then I could not access the internet via Google Chrome, so i tried AOL. AOL worked, but it was freezing as always. I decided to restart my modem and my computer.

When I turned it on, It would go past the XP screen and continuously reboot. I then hit F8 many times, and got the menu(not sure what its called) and make it so it would not auto-reboot on system failure. I then got this error on a blue screen when i booted and had it set to not auto-reboot:

Quote:
c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows logon process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status o
f 0xc0000022 (0x00000000, 0x0000000)
The system has been shut down.
I do not have a XP installation disc, or any other windows recovery discs. Booting into safe mode doesnt work, or the other start options. I am using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS to access the internet. How may I go about fixing this?

Hi Buckeye80

Here's a blurb from aumha.org, Jim Eshelman's "Windows Support Center" website:

Stop 0xc000021a:

Quote:

This occurs when Windows switches into kernel mode and a user-mode subsystem, such as Winlogon or the Client Server Runtime Subsystem (CSRSS), is compromised. Security can no longer be guaranteed. Because Win XP can?t run without Winlogon or CSRSS, this is one of the few situations where the failure of a user-mode service can cause the system to stop responding. This Stop message also can occur as a result of malware infestation or when the computer is restarted after a system administrator has modified permissions so that the SYSTEM account no longer has adequate permissions to access system files and folders.

For your system, it's Winlogon that can't clear the hurdle.
__________

Usually, clearing this up would take two steps:
1) Clean-booting with a CD/DVD-based operating system and performing malware removal.
2) Performing a Repair installation of Windows XP (& afterwards updating Windows and antimalware software).
__________

Why not use the AVG bootable CD to clean up the malware. It boots a lean Linux & allows AVG to update it definitions. You can then scan your partitions for malware & delete what you can. http://www.avg.com/us-en/avg-rescue-cd

I've done a quick search to try and find a solution to this but it seems like everyone else has had this issue with logging in.Unfortunately for me this happens at what seems to be quite random. There is a minidump that I have if that helps of my latest crash.http://www.speedyshare.com/8eAWJ/03...I have Windows 8 Pro on a SSD. Seems to happen mostly when playing games but one time i came back to my PC and it was BSODed.Any solution other than "Reinstall Windows" would be great! I threw the dump into the debugger, and it tells me, "Windows must now restart because the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly." This is bad for you because it means your dump doesn't have enough information to explain RPC's crash. Given the age and popularity of Win8, I'd suspect some third party driver / service is mucking things up. It could be the copy protection (SafeDisc) some game installed.Try updating drivers (your sound driver was released a year before your OS) and / or uninstalling customized drivers (the Razer stuff). How To Ask Questions The Smart Way

First question is how did the Win7 install become legitimate? If the hacked version is still present this could be causing problems. Your UEFI/BIOS (version P1.30) dates from 2014.  Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your system.  If you are able to install the update through Windows (without booting from an external drive), then go ahead and update it.  WARNING - if the computer might shut down during this procedure, please don't do it, as this may physically damage the computer and prevent it from booting. The WER section of MSINFO32 blames your wireless drivers.  Let's see what the memory dumps have to say.....The memory dumps blame it also.  It dates from 2011, so it's likely not compatible.Go to the manufacturer's website and download the latest, Win10 compatible driver and install it.If a Win10 driver isn't available, you may try a Win8.1 driver (and run the installer in compatibility mode) - but there's no guaranty that it'll work.Worst case - remove the wireless card software, then physically remove the device from the system. If you must have wireless, then invest in a wireless card that's certified Win10 compatible. If this doesn't fix the BSOD's, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions:  http://www.carrona.org/verifier.htmlGood luck! Analysis:The following is for informational purposes only.[font=lucida console]***********************... I am unaware as to what is causing this problem, but i have many concerns over how serious a problem it is. Everytime i log on to my computer the Winlogon.exe file shuts down. But my computer still continues to function normally (besides the internet running way slower then normal, and also causing the other computers on my network to do the same). However, the system stability at that point is obviously comprimised. It isnt until i pursue a more memory/graphic intensive task that my computer will have a fatal error and need to be restarted. Examples include playing World of warcraft, or having more then one browser window open at a time while surfing the internet. But it mostly occurs less then 15 minutes into a session of World of warcraft. The strange thing is, sometimes the shut down wont occur right away, but will instead seemingly happen at random times. Also as a result of whats going on to the main computer, the other computers on that network seem to be more instable then before, but not to the extent that the main computer is. Here is the error message:

STOP C000021a (fatal system error)

Where do I even start?
A client of mine came to me with their HP desktop and were saying it could not boot and restore points were not even working. I thought I would have this worked out in no time. I was wrong.

Here is the details for everything:
- Error code is 0X000021a and I can only see it when I, attempt to, boot into Safe Mode (Which all Safe Mode options do not work.)
- Normal booting into the OS results in a mainly blue screen with thin lines and streaks cutting through the screen and nothing is distinguishable.
- I tried System Restore and there is nothing there to access, says Windows.
In this next section, I run commands from the Command Prompt in the Windows Troubleshooting section of the boot.
- SFC scans result in this now: "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation."
- Chkdsk: Regular Read-Only mode tells me "No further Action is required" and running the extended commands, such as /f /r, takes a huge amount of time and I only did that once. No dice.
- DISM commands seem like such a good idea but I can run only one of them and it does not help me in any way. Say I run "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth" it gives me "Deployment Image Servicing and Management Tool. Version 10.0.14393.0.
Error: 50. DISM does not support servicing Windows PE with the /Online option."
And if I try any other DISM commands, more errors, like Error 2.
- System Repair does not work.

Hi.

I'm having some issues booting my PC. The last time I was on it I put it to sleep (as I always do). I don't believe that I've changed anything lately as I've only really been using it to stream content from it to the TV.

The BSOD shows the following error:

STOP: c000021a {Fatal system error}
The verification of a KnownDLL failed. system process terminated unexpectedly with the status of 0xc0000221 (0x0113dda0 0x00000000)

I've tried to boot into safe mode to no avail.

I've attempted to use all in built system recovery to no avail.

I've also searched Google but can't really find anything relevant to fix the issue.

The boot drive is a 64GB SSD drive from Kingston.

I've ran FRST on it and got the log if that's any help?

I'd very much appreciate any help on this

My sister's Dell desktop got the New Win31 virus(?) recently and I told her to try follow the Read and Run Me on the forum.

We don't have the CD for XP, so I can't repair her computer using that either.

I'm at a lost and my sister doesn't know anything about computers, so any sort of help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Strange problem that seems to have a workaround. My compy stops with a windows logon 0x0000021a fatal sytem error 0x00000080 (0x00000000 0x00000000). So I restart. Works fine. This seems to happen in the morning, or when the comp has been shut down for a long period of time. Microsoft can't help as their kb shows me c000021a every time I search. That problem relates only to XP Pro. I run Home. I'm at a loss here. Ran SpyBot cleaned up some stuff, and here's my hjt if it can help.

Hi,

In the middle of windows update, I'm getting a BSOD with VIDEO DXG_KRNL FATAL ERROR. After this, I have to hold the power button down to power off, and when I restart it says "Restoring your previous version of windows" and then I can go back into the computer.

Because of this I can't update windows at all.

I did some reading, but couldn't find much information. Some people seem to think that this is because of a faulty graphics driver installed by windows update. So, I manually updated my graphics drivers (intel as well as nvidia), and used WUSHOWHIDE.DIAGCAB to uncheck all other updates except "Upgrade to Windows 10 Home Single Language, version 1511, 10586". Repeated windows update, still same error.

Also, this is not the first time I'm getting this error. It happened last time there was a big windows update. But that time, I disabled only the intel driver from the list of updates, and it went through fine.

I have uploaded the zip file according to instructions. Can anyone help?

Answer:BSOD during windows update, VIDEO DXG_KRNL FATAL ERROR

Hi passenger001,

Welcome to the 10forums

Lets start with verifying your system files, please follow below instructions.

Diagnostics Test

 System File Check

Please try following:
Open an admin command promptCopy/paste "sfc/scannow" (without quotes) and press enterWhen it finished reboot your systemOpen again an admin command promptEnter sfc/scannow again
If sfc/scannow says "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them" after the second SFC, please upload the cbs.log file located at %systemroot%\Logs\CBS\, if the file is too large try a 3rd party uploader like dropbox, onedrive, google drive, mediafire etc.
System File Check(SFC a.k.a. Windows Resource Protection) needs to have your system rebooted in order for sfc to try to fix the problems that it finds.

Make a photo of SFC and post it.

EDIT:

Diagnostics Test

 Malware scan

Please run a threat scan with Malwarebytes*, a full scan with your AV, scan your system with Adwcleaner, Kaspersky TTDSKiller, ESET Online Scanner and SuperAntiSpyware

   Note
*(Uncheck trial version in the installation process)
Please upload the scan logs.
