Sound does not work, makes me maad

Question: Sound does not work, makes me maad

I have installed Windows XP because i had to get rid of Windows 7 beta(Because it keeps shutting down every few hour!) Now most things works pretty well, except for sound. I know that this have some thing to do with driver, does not show the volume speaker icon at corner.
I tried Google and i could not find anything useful to problem. Then now i have found this helpful community. I know most simple computer stuff but not drivers

If you can help, that would be great!

Thanks A lot.

Preferred Solution: Sound does not work, makes me maad

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Sound does not work, makes me maad

Go to the PC manufacturer's website for the onboard sound driver. If you have a separate sound card, go to the sound card manufacturer's website for their latest driver. If you have onboard sound for a custom built or self-built PC, go to the motherboard manufacturer's website for drivers. Without knowing which you have, I can't be more specific.

I must mute my laptop's audio due to an awful noise that sounds like a fan blade hitting something how can I fix this?

Answer:Laptop sound doesn't work properly makes a fan noise

Assuming the laptop is not brand new, you probably have a build up of dust in your laptop's cooling paths and heat sink(s). You can confirm this by installing HWMonitor and confirming the system's temperatures at idle and during use. You need to blow out the dust with a can of compressed air that you can purchase at a computer store or office supply store. Just blow the air into all of the vents and carefully into the easier opening access panels they supply. If this does not help, you MAY have either too much dust build up and may have to open the system or have it cleaned out professionally, or (less likely), another obstruction hitting the fan's blades.Post back results for more advice. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

It's a new Dell and it has been making crackling sound since I got it.
I spent an hour on the phone with a technician who restored the laptop with Windows 8.1 to an earlier point in time and it stopped crackling for the rest of the day, but the next day, the noise was back.
The worst are "ding" sounds, they have more crackle than ding. Video playback is bad but at least we can understand what is said. Youtube is bad. mp3 audio is bad. Crackle is there with earphones too.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 11 (3147, Mid 2014) makes crackling sound whenever sound is played

lelouIt's a new Dell and it has been making crackling sound since I got it.
Hello. If it made the noise right out of the box you probably should have returned it as defective during the brief return period.
Does it make the noise only when running on battery power or also when plugged into house current?

Did my searching and couldn't find this one...

When I modify the speaker volume using the "Volume Mixer" icon, it generates a sound. When I adjust using the "Speakers/Headphones" icon, it does not make a sound.
I would like to mute the Windows 7 sound that happens when I adjust the sound, preferably without effecting the other system sounds? I can't find out which system 'event' it is that causes a sound to be generated when I modify the speaker volume. I'd like to mute it, i.e. no sound when I change the volume.

Answer:System Event - Changing sound makes a sound, how to mute it?

Maybe the solution is in this tutorial
Sounds - Change

Back around the first of the year I sent my xps 17 L1702x back to the depot to replace a bad motherboard. Ever since then I have noticed a buzzing sound in the speakers when the volume is half way up or louder. I can press down on the top of the hand rest area, and the buzzing stops Has anyone else experienced this problem? I would hate to have to send the computer back to the depot for this but it's driving me crazy!

What on EARTH process is always running in the background to make my hard drive chatter away for literally nearly 3-5 minutes after a bootup...and we're talking with a FRESH install!....Some something is running a LOT in the background but task manager is absolutely worthless in pointing out what is going on...It even gets to the point where , after having the Edge browser opened and perusing the internet for awhile, things get so bogged down, and windows is too stupid to tell me exactly WHY it's bogged down, things get to where even a mouse click is delayed upwards of 10 seconds! lol. Sometimes things completely freeze and pushing the reset button is the only way out...I've gone as far as downloading Avasts 'emergency startup' disc and booting from it , thinking there might be a virus, but it found nothing (although I'm wondering if it's loading a small portion of windows, which if it is, and a virus or malware is in that small portion, booting to the disc and running the anti-virus software is pointless...maybe I should try it with a linux based emergency disc?) ....

Answer:Windows 10 makes my HD work and work and work and work

Nonetheless, please post a screenshot of your task manager, processes using most disk at the top. Else we're just guessing - thanks.

Try 'process explorer' by Sysinternals (Microsoft). This should give you a more detailed view.
Note: if system or svchost.exe are the processes using disk, you will need to do more technical analysis.

Is there any change if you do a clean boot?

Any ideas as to what would prevent the computer policy that applies to the domain computers on my network from allowing MU to work?

Let me say that the BITS service isn't started, and when trying to manually kickstart it, I receive this error message:

Windows could not start the Background Intelligent Transfer Service on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code -2147467243.

Using the links provided at the troubleshooting section of MU gives me this KB article:

I do the steps provided in the KB and I still cannot start BITS. Same cryptic ass error code received.

So then I do some magic with sc sdset for the Security Descriptor that BITS uses:

[SC] SetServiceObjectSecurity SUCCESS
This allows me to download updates but after a reboot it will not function again. I get the same BITS error and when I try to do the sc sdset BITS <string> it won't even set that, fails with an error code of 1336.

There is also a policy setting that seems to have worked for qui... Read more

my computer is a windows vista home premium. I don't have speakers as i only use the speakers from my monitor... this is a fairly new computer and the sound devise is Realtek HDMI ouput ... i have done all that i can to try and make this work but no sound ever comes out.

ive checked everything that is slightly related to sound and they all they are 'working'. but they are not working because i don't hear anything... ive also tried downloading Realtek ATI HDMI Audio Device Driver 1.59 from
but in the end it just says 'no driver was supported in this driver package' ...?!

ive tried other sites too but for those, i need a user name and password, and i have no idea what that is... i don't know if i even have one. so since i cant give them a user name and password, i cant log onto the downloading page so i cannot download...what is WRONG with my computer??

I suspect this is a hard drive idling. I have Win8.1 installed on one HD and opensuse on another HD. When I am using the Win8.1, sometimes I get a hissing sound from the case. The sound that the hardware makes when I shutdown the system, except there is no shutdown, no error, no flickering of the screen.

I see a lot of threads on other forums suggesting that this is a PSU issue. I hope that my brand new Corsair is not to blame. The last reply on this page suggests that it is the secondary drive shutting down to conserve energy. I would be perfectly fine with that but is there any case that going on-off it damages the drive? Should I cut the power to the drive completely?

Answer:PC makes shutdown sound

HI Sailor, long time not chat.

I would check in the power options and set the HDDs to always on (especially if a desktop PC) and location is Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings

Then scroll down the list to Hard Drives and set to always on > apply and reboot and test.

Welcome to Tech Support Guy

The first thing is to download and install SP3 as soon as possible
Support for XP with SP2 has finished and did so on July 13 2010
That means that no security updates etc have been offered to you since then

You may well find that SP3 will solve the issue for you

As you cannot of course connect you have two choices - one sort out the connection
1. If it is the wireless that will not connect - connect it hard wired from the ethernet port on the laptop
Also ensure that wireless is stwiched on on the Dell - usually Fn plus an F key

OR if you cannot

2. Download SP3 to another computer and then install to the Dell

I know it says do not use on one computer but it will still work and t MAY solve the connection problem for you

3. If you are on broadband and you refer to the modem, as the modem/router provided by the ISP eg BT etc then it does not make a sound
If you refer to the modem in the computer that WAS used for a dial up connection and is not used on broadband
The computer has a modem port where a telephone line was connected for dialup and a ethernet connection I would think, where the line is connected for broadband from the modem/router provided by your ISP BT etc

YOU MUST not connect to the wrong port on the laptop

Additionally I cannot find a Dell Vostra 100 laptop where are you please as some models are only available in some areas
If by chance it is the Vostra 100... Read more

Hi i just noticed my monitor sometimes makes a high pitch whistling soound, should i be worried?

Is it like (this might sound stupid) leaking radiation waves or something which could be dangerous to me?

Answer:My monitor makes a sound!?!!?!

This is very common on all TVs and also large-screen monitors. The integrated high-voltage transformer (IHVT) has windings that are laminated in place under the black surface skin. Through age, heat, and vibration, the laminations deteriorate. What you get are 15KH noises that a lot of people…can't even hear. The reason you hear it coming and going is that different brightness [settings] require different currents through the transformer, [which] causes the laminates to start singing. You need a new IHVT.

This sound usually indicates that the monitor is on its way to equipment failure. I believe that a new or refurbished monitor is your best option, unless by chance, your monitor is still under warranty.

For your safety i would like to note......Do not open the monitor!
Computer monitors are a prime example of hardware that should be serviced only by qualified technicians. The electricity that builds up inside these units can kill you, plain and simple. Furthermore, even unplugged, monitors pose a serious threat; it can take days for the electric charge to dissipate from within one.

A couple of months ago, I notice that my wireless mouse was starting to hesitate and lag. Usually, I could move the dongle to a different USB port and that would solve the issue for a while. However, a couple of days ago, it started getting really bad. Now it doesn't matter what port it is in. I have tried: updating/reinstalling all mouse drivers. Nope. I even bought a new Microsoft mouse with a big "Windows 10 ready" sticker on it. Nope. Other mice have the same issue, too. Not sure what to do next. Basically, my computer is a 25-lb paperweight if I can't get my mouse working properly. I did look at some threads on this forum with folks who had similar issues and tried a few things there (disabling Realtek as startup was one idea. Another suggesting to turn off the "scroll when hovering over an inactive window" in settings.), but none of those worked, either.

I've been using Windows 10 ever since it was released last summer, so I don't know why this problem is appearing now. Seems like something that would crop up on a brand new build.

Answer:mouse lag/stutter makes it almost impossible to work

Oh yeah....and a Microsoft bulletin suggested the "sfc/scannow" approach. It didn't find anything wrong.

Ok, so recently i've been reformating my computer and somehow... these reformat are different then the 1 before. It used to have more start up software then now today, i don't know what might have caused or why it happen. I try reformating it again and same result. For some reason the Radeon 9250 series don't seem to work on my computer. Everytime when it reach to the desktop, the screen go idle-like. It's just blank black like the computer is not even turn on. But somehow the mouse function and the keyboard works. I can turn off my computer with the buttons and mouse click works. Just my screen goes blank black. Might there be some software i'm missing that cause this problem?

Answer:What software makes the graphics card work?

Umm yes the drivers

Anyway, presently the Monitor refresh rate is set too high in Windows (not in the Monitor itself) and therefore it won't display (being above the Monitors max level)

So you will need to go to Safe mode
By repeatively pressing the F8 key on Windows initial startup
Then select Safe Mode
And log on to an Administrator account

Then go to Device Manager
Start-Run-> Devmgmt.msc
Then remove the Display adaptor device (right click uninstall or remove)
Then restart to Normal mode again

Then download the drivers from Radeon support driver page

That is all

what a surprise. my favorite key combination actually does not work. what happens is, i can press the 3 keys, but the only thing that comes up is the little tray icon with a full green bar showing it's using 100 percent of the processor (it's xp by the way). when i move my mouse over it, it disappears. i've seen that happen before, like when i COULD use ctrl+alt+delete to close a program that froze, like kazaa. when i moved my mouse over the tray icon for kazaa, it dissappeared. so i'm guessing that it opens, but then closes without closing the right way and clearing the tray like it is supposed to....

and the REGISTRY can almost never make any changes. it can read for my currently installed programs, but will not accept changes by any other means. so that means i can't install anything. if i had to reinstall windwows, would i be able to? would i be able to install backup software to backup my pictures, music, etc? if i did have to reinstall, it would be a format.

i also did a spyware check (which i did before the registry screwed up). bought some stuff from tz(trackzapper). seemed to lessen the pop-ups, but it seems to have lessened windows' function.
anyone know what happened?
oh yea, sry about the colors, i wanted to see if it really worked..:D

Answer:can not makes changes to registry; ctrl+alt+delete does not work

Not that this is going to help any, but lately there seems to be an epidemic of people with Kazaa having major problems and viruses. Something to think about...

When i start playing a game (any game) and my temp. reaches 41 it starts beeping. My alarms are off in bios. Ok, so I know what I've done is kinda stupid, but I'm a noob at hardwares so it just happened lol. Here is my problem: I opened up my pc today to clean it a bit. I'm 100% sure i haven't moved anything and haven't touched any important parts of the chips and stuff when doing it. Except for one of the fans, I removed it to be able to remove the dust. There's been some panel under it that i got curious about (I didn't know it's the CPU), and just removed the cover and took out the processor lol. After taking a look at it I put everything (including the CPU) back the EXACT same way it has been before, plugged in the power cable and tried to boot the system. But now all it does is making a steady beeping sound (short beeps, it ends when i switch off the computer), screens are black. The fans are working though.

So I suppose this problem is related to the fact that I messed with the CPU, but I swear I've put everything back the way it was before. Please, if anyone knows a solution for this problem, help me.

My CPU is an Intel Core 2 duo E4500.

I am having this weird issue with sound card lately. It only happens on WinXP. Never happened on Win98, but i need to be using WinXP, cause of most applications.

When i run some applications, the sound gets rusty, cannot explain what the **** it means, or what is the source of the problem, cause driver is the same as on Win98, and on Win98 this has never caused problems like that.

The BSOD it caused resets my PC automaticlly.

Answer:Sound Card makes BSOD

Hi again,

There could be several things. Let's start by making sure that your PnP is set to "Disabled" in the BIOS setup menu. Also, many sound card drivers do not work on both the 98 platform and the XP platform. I would suggest that you search google and download the latest drivers that are XP compatible.

Also, might be good to list your motherboard type and general setup including the brand and model of sound card.

U can re-enable hibernation in the Advanced option >>Memory Indexing, followed by unchecking pagefiles.sys , this woul help regain some strength of ur pc. It will regain its speed after a few start ups as the cache memore is to be refilled.

Wondering if someone can help me? I have a brand new Sony Vaio with Vista. This computer makes a clicking noise that is the same sound as when I click on something to open it, but it makes this noise on its own (while I type this message it is doing it, when my screen saver is on and nothing is running it does it). I can't see any programs running in the back ground..... anyone know what might be the cause?

I think it's my harddisk (Samsung HD501LJ), thought I am not sure. The sound is high pitched and comes only sometimes. But it certainly sounds like something is spinning. The sound goes in the interval of a sound per 1,4 second, or so. Sometimes it's a single sound, other times its double or even tripple. It continues sometimes for several minutes and then it can be quiet for some time. I have scanned it with checkdisk, and no probs.

Do you think it's the harddisk? Can this be a serious problem?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Something makes creaking/squeaking sound

It's probably your hard drive or a fan. When you're hearing the sound, carefully stick your finger in the fans to momentarily slow them down. If the sound goes away, then it's the fan.

You should also run Samsung's utility to test the hard drive. I've never used it before, so read the instructions carefully:

Hello Geeks!

Recently my 2 year old CD/DVD burner (NEC) has started making a clicking sound when spinning a CD (it's especially noisy with burned CDs) as well as accessing newly loaded CDs and DVDs rather slowly. Any idea what this might be a sign of?

Not sure what other info you might need on this, but let me know if there this.

Here lately when I turn my computer on, it makes a different beeping sound than usual. Sometimes it will not stop at all. This may have to do with overclocking but not sure. I was trying to reach 3.4ghz but never really could get it stable and that seems to be when it started. Right now I am at stock settings and it still does it. Does this mean there is a problem with my cpu or memory?

I also just reinstalled Windows Vista if that helps any.

Hi there,

I have a problem with my Satellite M40X
Sometimes the fan makes odd sound, something like it had problem with moving
something like 'wrrrrr' and then it stops making the noise and works normally
What can be wrong ?

I also noticed that if I close the windows abnormally and restart it the fan is working full speed all the time
no matter how busy CPU is,
What can be the reason ?

Many Thanks

Answer:Fan of Satellite M40X makes sometimes odd sound

Hi mate,

doesn?t sound very healthy. I assume that your FAN has a serious problem and I think before starting a long discussion about it would be the best that you contact a authorized service partner in your country and send your machine to them since your problem is really hardware-related.

Whenever I run a certain video game, 5 minutes into it, an internal speaker repeatedly makes two annoying beeps, the first one is a high pitched beep followed by a lower pitched beep. It sounds like an old police siren. If anyone can tell me how to stop this I would be very grateful.

I have a Western Digital 80GB/ 8MB cache hard drive and it makes a sound on boot. I just formatted the drive to zeroes with Dianostics Lifeguard Tools from WD and installed win xp pro with sp1. It sounds like the arm or what you call it is grinding or something. It happens when POST is done and the MBUltra133 BOIS tries to detect and when the screen goes to windows xp screen it sounds like the arm is at one side then rushes to the other side. It only make this sound at this point and never anywhere else. I have 90% free space and I just defraged it and still makes this sound. Is the drive needing to be replaced or do hard drives make this sound at this point normally.

I just got a brand new e540 laptop in the mail last friday, and I found through using it, that it makes this really annoying sound. I myself cannot quite describe it, but it doesn't sound normal. It comes on at random intervals, kind of reminds me of the sound that a very very older desktop computer would make. The sound is really annoying and drives me up the wall, and I can't quite tell what it is. I've never had a laptop that has made a sound like this, even my older models didn't make this sound. Since, I can't quite describe it, I have a link to a small recording I made with my mobile: Anyone have any idea what it might be caused by, or if that's just how this laptop is supposed to sound? (I'm not well versed in computers) and that if it is abnormal it's something I can get repaired under my warranty.  The laptop itself has worked fine, it's just this sound is driving me insane. When I am using the laptop normally, it will happen at irregular intervals, and sometimes the laptop will be silent, and then if I run chkdsk this sound intensifies and gets much louder and persistent and much more annoying. I don't have time to contact support until this friday so I figured I may as well make a forum post here for now.

Hey guys.

Recently purchased a Gainward GTX 570 Phantom. When I start the computer up it makes a strange "clicking" noise. There are no loose cables or anything...+the gainward phantom fans are covered anyway!. I tried replacing its slot from pcie_1 to pcie_2 and same thing occured.

When I first bought it made the sound for about 30 mins. After I installed drivers and unistalled old AMD drivers and the let the computer run for a bit, the noise stopped.

However when I start the computer up now, for about the first minute I hear the same clicking noise>

I want to ask if is this something to be concerned about? Do some fans just sometimes make weird noises while "warming up"? I used GPU-Z and fan speeds+temp. seem perfect.

(P.S I have warranty, but I already had to RMA my last KFA2 GTX 570 and replace it with this last week, so unless its a potentially bad thing I dont really want to RMA it.)

Answer:GPU makes Clicking Sound On Startup

Well its not a normal sound so you definitely need to be concerned. There may be something in one of the fans or one of the fans may be faulty. Or it may be a power issue.

What is the brand, model, and wattage of your power supply?

I looked through a few threads here on this forum that have a similar title but most of what I read isn't helping me. So I started a new thread.

My laptop makes a clapping sound every now and then. It is definitely not a hardware problem, it's coming from the speakers. I can mute it, increase/decrease volume etc.

It isn't a regular interval at which it happens. Sometimes the sounds are as closely spaced as 5 or so seconds, sometimes half an hour but mostly they happen every 2-3 minutes. There is no visual cue as to which software is causing this sound to come.

I tried looking through the processes that are running but that doesn't seem to be helping too since everything seems quite legit. This problem has started happening only since the past couple of days and is extremely frustrating when I am trying to work.

Can someone here help me as to how I should go about figuring which software is causing these sounds to come?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:Laptop makes a clapping? sound every so often

Open Task Manager and write down or take a screenshot of what processes are running after you hear the sound.

Hello everybody, first of all my apologizes for my approximative English, i haven't studied it for long and i don't use any translator. So why i post here ? Simple i searched since last week first on French forums and now here because i have no more options to solve my problem, i'm about to reinstall xp, this is the last chance i accord to this windows 7 ultimate "issue".

My laptop is a lenovo y510 with a sound chipset using the "realtek high definition audio drivers", on xp sp3 the quality was perfect, on w7 it's a mess. First there is a delay, for example i open a folder, i test the audio on the task bar, etc the sound takes approximatively +0.5 second to active himself, except when i play a continuous sound (music/video) here the sound appears in the normal delay, very strange...

Second problem, static, crackling, i can't listen music or any kind of sounds while i'm working (maximize a window, scroll a word/excel document, etc...).

Third problem, the worst, my onboard speakers (5.1) ALWAYS create crackling at the begging and at the end of any sounds, even when i plug the external speakers, and if i up the volume of my external at nearly maximum i can here the sound from my onboard too (weak but present) !

I tried everything people advised me, all drivers from 1.84 to 2.47 (include different compatibility) and windows updates ones, disable power management, powermizer, tried everything on the control panel in sounds settings, flash the bios, update ... Read more

Answer:Sound problem makes me crazy...

Some news, end the process audiodg.exe completely fix the whole problem...

I guess now this will be easier to answer, is this process vital for security or something like that ? How can i disable him from the start ? I don't want at any boot go to the task manager and end him manuely...

Anyone know if its normal for a cpu to make a quiet ticking sound when ac power is plugged in. This happens even with the bare motherboard/cpu on the bench with nothing else attached. It's a laptop, the machine died with no warning. Before disasembly there were no lights or any other activity when plugged in; could
hear this ticking sound, and took apart to find out what was making it.
I've never noticed a cpu by itself to make noise before.
Thanks in advance for any info.

I removed the cpu and "YES" its still making the sound without it.
Anyway, I removed the cmos battery and left it overnight. After reassembling the laptop now the disk drive light comes on steady as soon as its plugged in. Still wont start. Light goes out a couple seconds after power disconnected. Now I dont hear the ticking sound anymore as well. Maybe its a bios problem.

Answer:CPU makes a quiet ticking sound

no the CPU isnt supposed to make any noises at all. Seeing as there are no moving parts in a CPU, the only reason it would be making a 'ticking' noise, is if you are actually hearing an electrical spark, which of course is bad news.

My PS/2 keyboard makes a ticking sound with each keystroke. There is a different sort of click for alphabet keys, numbers and arrows. The same ticking sound is heard also when logging in or shutting down. The ticking sounds play for all users. I have tested a wireless USB-keyboard and there was no sound. I have not tested with another PS/2 keyboard yet.
Systems sounds are all off, but ticking continues. The clicking sound responds to volume control, e.g. volume off=no ticking.
The Filter Keys function in the Ease of Access center are un-ticked.

What could be causing the sound? Please help!

Answer:PS/2 keyboard makes ticking sound

It was the Asus Xonar DGX soundcard that was picking up interference from the PS/2 keyboard port. I don't know why it started doing it, but this appears to be a hardware problem instead of a Windows 7 problem. I switched to the mobos soundchip, and everything is nice and quiet when I type my important documents (or actually, play Skyrim).

For a while my computer have been making a electric leak like sound whenever the CPU usage gets high. However, lately it started to make it more often. For example with anti-virus searches and malware search softwares, the CPU usage goes up to 80 percent and this weird noise comes from the CPU.

This sound sample i have recorded for you to picture the sound. This was recorded with microphone very near to CPU. The background humming noise comes from the fan, but I am very certain that this leak-like sound does not come from fan because it does not have a specific pattern and only occur with high CPU uges. The CPU usage was around 80% in this recording.

For information, my configurations are:

Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00 GHz
Motherboard MSI 915P/G Neo2 Platinium ed.

so not that bad.

Thanks for your help in advance.

I hit the power button, lights turn on on the tower, the monitor shows nothing, and there is a very quiet repetitive buzzing sound coming from the speaker on the motherboard. I think it buzzes six times and then nothing. I can then hit the power button again and all the lights instantly turn off.
Yesterday I opened it up and blew it out (it was VERY dusty) but that didn't help.
Any ideas?

Hello! Registered to ask help with this problem. My computer has been making odd buzzing sound under stress for some time now. It happens usually when I try to play newer games but sometimes just using web browsing or Youtube induce lesser sounds. I've changed CPU cooler, GPU and memory sticks during this time, and that hasn't changed the situation. Here's a recording of the sound:

I moved the phone around to locate the source of the sound and I think it's coming from bottom half, below GPU, possibly near PSU. Is there anyway to test if it's the PSU?

I'd appreciate the help, this has been bugging me for quite some time. I know I shouldn't wait around with a computer making disturbing noice, but what can I say.

(One detail I noticed is that Speccy gives my memory sticks speed as 933MHz when is should be double that.)

SAS and Spybot are both antispyware and you should not use them both. Secondly, Spybot is outdated so you should keep SAS and add another anti malware software Make sure to uninstall Spybot then try making a full scan on SAS and Mbam alternately after updating both security softwares.

Is it like a siren? then it may be that your CPU is overheating. Check your heatsink and Fan.Have you tried to let it cool down and try booting again? Does it then still do that? and is the sound heard immediately or after a delay? If it is a series of BEEPs then you need to understand the beeps and then look up the beep code for your BIOS here: here When everything else fails, read the instructions.

Hi everyone, new to the forum here.

A friend of mine built me a PC about 8 months ago. As the tower was getting a little 'warm', I decided to open up the tower and clean the fan using compressed air and also (what I think is the CPU, as it was just behind the fan) a little brush as it was covered in dust (the brush is kind of like the thing old ladies use when dying their hair on the roots, it's like a long black brush and isn't very hard at all, I've read that people have cleaned them using a toothbrush, I'd never do that).

Anyway, since then, my PC is alot louder than usual, it tends to make a noise which is like some kind of scraping sound and the 'beep' sound on startup sounds a bit different (hard to explain, but not as clear or healthy sounding, if that makes sense).

It seems to be running fine though, no problems at all but I am concerned about the loud noise (like a gentle scraping like sound) and how the beeping sound is different from before. It could just be a noisy fan and now that it's clean it's even noisier (especially when starting up).

As I know nothing about computers, I'm somewhat afraid that I've done something drastically wrong when cleaning the inside of my PC fan and the front of my CPU. Or it could have always been that way but I never really noticed it before (I'm very OCD about computers).

I should also mention that I didn't touch the hard drive when I cleaned out t... Read more

Answer:Computer makes different sound when beeping when starting up PC

I would check the CPU cooler to make sure you haven't moved a lead into the fans path. When you say you cleaned it with compressed air, did you stop the fan from spinning as you did it, or did you allow it to speed up as the air blasted it?

If you've allowed it to spin up whilst being blasted with air its possible you've let it go too fast and caused wear to the bearings of the fan, hence the louder noise.

When cleaning moving components (fans for example) using blasts of compressed air, it is essential to provide a means of stopping them from moving. For example, using the end of something like a screwdriver against the side of the blade will stop it from spinning. Spinning up fans faster than their designed specifications can cause premature wear to them.

With the side panel off, fire up the computer (do not touch any of the hardware with it running), and see if you can locate where the noise is coming from inside the case. It could be one of the fans, or it could be the CPU cooler fan. Also, have a good look around all of the moving parts and make sure that all wiring is away from fans -- including the GPU (graphics card) if one is fitted.

Hi gang,
I'm very new to desktop computing (two days) but I'm fairly certain I've never head an HDD make quite this sound before, having listened and watched a bunch of YT vids on normal and abnormal noises. It's a high pitched mechanical scraping noise that happens every now and again, maybe a few times a minute or sometimes every 30 mins or so whether I'm running programs or just idle. It's a Seagate Barracuda Sata III 1TB HDD.
I've recorded a couple of clips. You can hear it well enough over the fans (and washing machine!) but I can remove HDD from case and re-record if needed.
First clip is HDD being mostly idle, occasionally I click the start and stop button within 'HD Tune', not exactly sure what that does? It's a 20 min recording edited down to one minute so the noise doesn't ocuur anywhere near as frequently as what you can hear!
click here clip is doing a 'quick error scan' using same program. Sounds like normal seeking sounds but then the noise comes back after the scan is finished and I begin to play a YouTube vid. The suspect sound you hear is NOT coming from the video.
click here much appreciate it if someone could take a listen and give me a verdict, thanks. Hopefully the links work.

Answer:HDD makes clinking sound normal? (recording inc)

Would have been better without the background noise. It does sound like a seeking noise but IMO It shouldn't be that loud. It's a possibility the hard drive could be failing, I would backup all files to an external and create an system image of the drive just in case.

So I bought my HP 15-r124nv one year ago. I liked the specs, they are good for creating music using daws. So i first bought my laptop, then my studio monitiors, after that my modular synth and finally my usb audio interface (steinberg ur22). Sound using asio shold be higher quality. With my laptop, asio is a lot worse than realtek hd audio driver. Sounds worse from the audio interface than the realtek driver.. This is rediculus. I saw a lot of posts about this, most of them used an hp laptop, but none of the other posts actually helped me fix the problem. This is really imporant i've tried everything nothing works. I need an expert from either the hp support team or someone who had and fixed this problem to let me know how to fix this.  Tests i did:I tried a different audio interface to see if it is the ur22 problem.. Sound sounds crappy from other interface tootested my ur22 on a different pc with the yamaha asio driver. Sounds perfect.Turned all of power saving settings in my laptop off. Problem remains. (The sound with asio drivers in my laptop sounds like the sound is being through a heavy compression, but when i export the track, it sounds good and clean from another computer).Any help would be appreciated thansk in advance.

My laptop: Asus K52JR with Windows 7 Ultimate, Intel Core i3 CPU M350 2.27 Ghz, 3 Gb of RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470.

The problem is that the laptop freezes and makes a sound (from speakers), like a broken Audio CD, then bsod and restart.

First time I had this problem - two weeks ago - I sent it back to be repaired. They changed my HDD. Because my Windows wouldn't start and it appeared a message about hardware/software problem. I mention that the first time when it freezed I was watching a movie and downloading something with uTorrent. It crashed and I got bsod. But it and worked fine after. Another time (when my laptop eventually didn't start anymore) I was playing an online browser game and downloading something with uTorrent. I didn't got a bsod. I had to force it to shut down.

Now, after they installed a new HDD, it worked for two days. But again it freezed, maked a strange sound and restarted. This time I was playin the same online browser game, I was talking with people through Team Speak 2 and downloading something with uTorrent.

I said all these details because I don't know much about computers, and I wish someone could detect my problem.

sound player makes scratchy noise.................... when I play any song on my pc it makes a horrible scratching sound.
I have tried both adding a soundblaster sound card and using the audio on the motherboard. also tried 2 sets of speakers. always makes the noise !

what gives?

Answer:sound player makes scratchy noise..........

I cannot speak on how to use P2P programs but i'm letting you know if the files you are using are downloaded mp3's they may be corrupt.
Other cause is your speaker wires may be too close to a power source. If the wire going from your computer to your speaker is touching the power cord or up against a power source sometimes you get interference. move the wires.

I bought a W541 with 4gb of ram and 1 750gig HD with the intention of upgrading the ram to 32gb and installing 2 hds in raid myself. After I got the computer i found out that if I didn't order it with RAID it wouldn't support it, so I ordered another of the same computer with RAID to replace it. While I was waiting for the replacement I installed the ram in the computer and it worked fine. Now I have the new computer, the only difference is that it has the RAID chip, and thats working fine, but when I installed the ram all the computer would do when you turned it on was make a high pitch buzzing sound. I thought maybe it had gotten a static shock while I was switching it so I sent it back for another 32 gb kit. Today the new kit came in, and its the same thing, all the computer does is make a high pitched buzzing sound.  Any ideas? TL;DR: W541 with raid will not even post with 32 ram upgrade. I bought the G.Skill Ripjaws 1.35V F3-1600C9Q-32GRSL, but that shouldn't matter as it worked in the first computer.

Answer:32 GB Ram upgrade, computer only makes a buzzing sound

I have not used that RAM, but it should work. All I can suggest is that you make sure you have the latest BIOS. Looking at the change log, at least v 2.09 fixed a memory detection problem.

Hello, I'm asking this because I want to play a song for someone I speak to in good quality over the internet and using a mic seems to have low quality playing out of speakers. Thanks

Answer:Program that makes sound output into input?

Virtual Audio Cable can route sound streams from the output of one program to the input of another.

Be aware though that if you're using some sort of voice over IP (skype, teamspeak, netmeeting, etc), your microphone may not be the only factor in the poor sound quality. Most VoIP software reduces the audio quality well below that of music quality in order to reduce bandwidth. So even if the above link works, it's not going to be cd quality.

It started 2 months ago... If my laptop is making instant internet-activities (like multiplayer-games, YouTube, or downloads), the sound is crackling. And it's because of the Beats Audio driver.I found out, because, when i'm using microsoft standard sound-drivers or realtek drivers without HP Beats modification, the crackling disappears. Where can I get an older Beats Audio-driver for my laptop? Or how can I fix it but still use Beats Audio? Others have the same problem: HP Pavilion 17Windows 10 (clean installed + necessary drivers) Best regards,Angela Merkel :3 :* <3

I've tried changing the drive letter, but that doesn't help. The usb appears in the storage management window but states no media. Also, the computer recognizes the flash drive in printer and devices. But from that window all i can do it dismount the flash-drive.

The problem started Friday afternoon. That morning I loaded a document. When I went to print it at Office max that afternoon, the file wasn't in the folder and the other documents appeared to be in a unreadable programs. When the employee tried another computer, the same thing. When I got home, the thing won't even load.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Answer:Laptop recognize USB (makes sound), but won't load!!! HELP!!

I've recently installed a theme for my Windows Se7en wich came with a couple of extra things to make it look perfect.
Now, when i open for example my control panel, some parts are white, wich means that some background images haven't been changed yet.
There was a extra included to fix that, 4 images PNG format.
Now the readme told me to replace those 4 images with the original ones, now when i do this, and restart my PC, I don't have any sounds.
When trying to play music in Windows Media Player it gives an error about the codecs of the music, wich is obviously not the problem because sound always worked before this.

Well, I already had some problems while booting because of the Shell32 file.

Now i'm wondering why my sound stops working whenever i make these minor changes to this file. and if there's any way to fix this so my menus don't have the white ugly thing + working sound...

Thank You for your support!!!!

I recently made the mistake of installing software which contained a tages driver onto my computer, the driver is not compatible with windows 7. When I turn my computer on, sometimes it will make a beeping sound repeatedly, however sometimes it will turn on as normal, and will have no further problems. I have managed to uninstall the driver, but am still having problems turning the computer on. There doesn't seem to be any particular reason for why the computer will sometimes turn on, and otherwise just make the beeping sound repeatedly. Does anyone have any advice?

Answer:Computer makes beeping sound when turned on

The beeping is coming from your PC performing a POST(power on self test).
Different patterns of beeps mean different things so next time it does it try to count the number and length of the beeps.
You can check out and hopefully show you what is going on.
You could also check your restore points and try restoring to a date prior to that software being installed

I am experiencing a problem again with my computer, a problem I have experienced before. I am hoping for an easier fix this time. Let me explain the symptoms:

1. I turn on the computer in regular mode.
2. After about 1 minute of usage, the computer starts making a repeating clicking noise (I believe it to be the hard-drive? I do not think it is the fan) and then the computer becomes unresponsive.
3. I restart the computer, and we are back at bullet point number one above.

The fix I had that worked was to reinstall the operating system, deleting all old files. So of course I had to back everything up first. I did this by booting in linux. This took me about 24 hours, mostly because my drivers are hell to find and reinstall because I am running windows 7 on a machine that is only supposed to run vista.

I couldn't simply reinstall the operating system while keeping the old files (they call this "upgrading" the OS) because they require you to run the update script while running your current version of windows in normal mode. It does not accept "safe mode". I could not do this of course because the computer freezes if I run the computer in normal mode.

Now about one year later, my computer is experiencing the exact same problem.

If I could just get the computer to NOT freeze for long enough to "upgrade" the operating system (to the same version, so it's not really upgrading), I think the problem would be solved.

I do not recall doing a... Read more

[Solved] New build won't turn on, makes a zap sound; using a multimeter?

Hi, I am building my first computer - it actually started out an upgrade of an old Compaq, but I had to get a new motherboard (got the ASUS M4A785TD-M EVO AM3 AMD 785G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard) when I found the new CPU (Phenom II) was not compatible. Basically the problem that I have is similar to what is described in [removed cause I'm a noob] ("New PC Build - PSU makes noise similar to a short 'zap'"). However, I'm not sure the zap sound is coming from the PSU. I have a 600W CoolMax PSU. Like the user in that thread (maXimus4444), I only get a zap once. The motherboard's LED light comes on when I plug in the computer, but when I press the power button there's just the zap and no other signs of power whatsoever.

I have an old case, motherboard, and CPU that I can test some of the components on, and when I switch these components (PSU, hard-drive, dvd-drive, video card) back to the old motherboard and CPU, the computer boots up OK with no problems that I can see. I cannot test my new CPU on the old motherboard as it can't handle a Phenom II. I also can't test my old CPU on the new motherboard as it doesn't fit the AM3 socket.

In that other thread, the person eventually said he resolved the problem and this is what he said caused the problem:

I had one of the jumpers on the front panel switch connector installed correctly.... Read more

Answer:New build won't turn on, makes a zap sound; using a multimeter?

First, could you confirm the following please:

1. You have tried switching the power switch pins around? In case its on incorrectly, and I will assume you've connected them as per the instructions in the motherboards manual.
2. You have connected the 12v ATX (4pin) power connector to the motherboard
3. You have connected the big (20/4) pin power connector to the motherboard
4. You have connected the CPU cooler fan lead to the CPU FAN connector on the motherboard.

It's possible you have recieved a dead PSU, but I would say its more likely the power header is incorrectly fitted.

I have a Viewsonic Optiquest Q7b-3 monitor. For the longest time, it was working just fine on me... until just the other day. Now, whenever I plug it in, it won't turn on. If I hook up the monitor to a PC or a Laptop, the little light under the power button will flash about three times, stop, and nothing will show up on the monitor.

About half a year ago, it did something similar to this, but I was able to fix it by replacing a domed capacitor. It worked perfectly... Up until now, of course. I opened up the monitor, and after looking at all the capacitors, none of them seem bad or even domed this time.

Here's the thing though; while I have it opened up and it's plugged into the wall, I can hear a faint buzzing noise. The faint noise sounds sorta like "Wee-ooh wee-ooh wee-ooh wee-ooh", and will continue until I unplug it.

Anyone have any idea's? It is now trashcan-filler, or do you think it is still repairable?

Any replies will be appreciated. Thanks in advance~
