Preferred Solution: xp not detecting any cds

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am having trouble with my windows installation after attempting to install windows 10 a second time on the same machine, but different partition.
I have used a bootable USB device with the windows 10 installation (created with the same machine and the same settings for OS).
After pressing F12 and selecting the USB as the boot device, i started the installation process and got to the stage where you select which drive / partition to install windows. But the list only contained the USB device i used to start the installation process, and the SSD did not appear when tried to refresh / reload drives (or unchecked the "hide incompatible drives" checkbox).
After canceling the installation process, i was met with the following message when rebooting windows:
"Your PC/Device needs to be repaired.
The Boot Configuration Data file is missing some required information.
File: \BCD
Error code: 0x0000034
You'll need to use recovery tools. If you dont have..."

Before the error occured:
I have tried many different things BEFORE i got to the step above where I was able to start the USB stick and consequently ended up with the error.
However when the error occured the BIOS was reset to factory settings and i was able to log in to windows (and listen to spotify for an hour or so) before i tried the install that gave the error:

I tried installing windows 10 with a stick created from another computer. That time I got to the installation process. But when... Read more

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, and I've been running on 4 GB RAM for a while.

Today I bought four RAM sticks, 2GB each, and installed it in my desktop. but Windows only saw 4 GB of RAM. So I removed two of them, but now Windows only sees 2 GB of RAM!

My motherboard is Gigabyte GA-EP35C-DS3R . And I've installed the sticks on the yellow and red slots as you can see below:

And here are my RAM specs just in case:

Old RAM sticks: DDR2 5-5-5-18 @ 1.80v, 800MHz

New RAM sticks: DDR2 5-5-5 @ 2.20v, 1066MHz

I'm no hardware guy, so if anyone can make sense of this, I'd really appreciate it. And I've missed mentioning anything important, please let me know.

Question: Not detecting?

Alright I am installing a fresh copy of XP and after I get a certain point I get an error and I seriously have no idea what is wrong.

I press enter then this happens...

Answer:Not detecting?

I'm not sure where the point of confusion is, considering the message clearly states it cannot detect the hard drive. If it's a standard IDE drive, check your cables and make sure the BIOS sees it. If it's a Serial ATA, since it's the AMD platform, you need to hit F6 and load the drivers, even if your not running a RAID setup. Also, if it's SATA, make sure the BIOS is set to use it as a regular drive, and not a RAID array.

You didn't bother to tell us if the drive is PATA or SATA, so our help is limited until we know necessary details.

Question: Not detecting IDE

Hope someone can help with this, last week I kept getting the message "Boot Disk Failure Insert System Disk"
After reading a thread I changed the grey cable from the hard drive to the motherboard and all was fine for a week now I get as far as detecting IDE drive and every thing stops there, also I can't get into the BIOS to see if the drive is reconised
I have a Norton Ghost backup but can't change the boot from HDD to CD as I can't get into the BIOS
Would appreciate any help with this.

Happy New Year

Answer:Not detecting IDE

I think we need a bit more information, 21st.

Let's start with what you were aiming for when you changed the cable connecting your hard drive to the motherboard. What was the objective? Can you put it back the way it was? What happened when you did?

What's the make and model of the motherboard? With that info, someone here can probably tell you how to get into the BIOS to change the boot order if Googling the motherboard model number doesn't get you that information. (BTW -- have you got the motherboard manual around?)

You say that the boot process gets as far as detecting the connected drives. Does the POST successfully identify the drive? What drive is it? (If the BIOS can identify the drive, it may not be a drive cable issue.)

The error message you get usually comes up when the BIOS is able to interrogate the drive, looks for a Master Boot Record, and does not find one that it can boot from. The MBR could have been corrupted or overwritten.

Another possible cause of that error message is a drive controller failure. There are several things you can do to confirm or eliminate that possibility, but I won't offer any until I know what filesystem(s) are on that drive. Without that knowledge, I might suggest something that gets unreliable results and causes you to wipe the drive when it wasn't necessary.

Let me tell you a bit about the bg of my problem,i started my pc with 2 HD one with windows xp <c:> and the other was a backup <d:>,I wanted to try windows 64 bit so i bought another HD and installed it as <e:> after the i installed the trial of 64 i started to get probs with my boot.ini so i uninstalled it with the intention to install S.u.S.e linux but after i uninstalled it i couldn't access my <c:> with XP because it came up with a ntldr error so i installed windows XP on <e:> where 64 bit use to be and repaired my original xp from there. But i found out for some reason the disk names changed and my backup became <c:> my original xp became <e:> and my new xp became <d:>.

I didn't think it was anything serious so i uninstalled the new xp and installed s.u.s.e and told it to install on <d:> where my new xp was but it installed it on <e:> where my original xp was ,i'm guessing it was because of the mix up of all the names and stuff but now i lost my original xp and all its content & when I try to start the original xp (because it still comes up with the boot list) it says hal.dll is missing.

I tried starting s.u.s.e and it asks me for a password but when i enter it it comes up incorrect and when i try it on safemode it asks me for a username that it randomly selected when i was installing it and cannot remember what it was.

I reinstalled xp on the HD where i wanted linux to install <d:&g... Read more

Answer:W7 64 bit only detecting 3GB out of 4GB

I had the same exact problem. It is a motherboard limitation. You need to go into your BIOS and enable "Memory Remapping". If I remember correctly, it's in the Northbridge settings.

Question: Not detecting USB

I have a Wireless USB adapter that I'm trying to get on the network. I had it working fine till a network guy come over and started messing around. Now, when I plug in the adapter, the computer either locks up or just doesn't recognize the new hardware. It's getting power fine though. What should I look for to fix? I've tried the Add Hardware but it doesn't detect it either.

Answer:Not detecting USB

Remove all the drivers, programs, and program file folders associated with that network adapter, then reinstall it according to the instructions provided with it.

Did the network guy you are referring to do anything to your laptop specifically?

Hey guys,

I have a really weird problem where the CD-Rom on my laptop is not detecting CDs when i insert them.

I put the CD into the CD-Rom and i hear it spinning for a minute or so, then it stops. When i go to My Computer and try to open the CD by double clicking the drive, it just opens a blank drive. I have tried multiple types of CDs: games, music, and movie CDs all have the same problem. I know that the CD-Rom itself is not the problem because i had the company, Acer, send me a brand new CD-Rom and the problem persists.

I have tried reinstalling all of the drivers, multiple times with no success.

This has been an ongoing problem for weeks now, and is frustrating because i can not play games, listen to cds, or even watch dvds so if anyone can help, i would greatly appreciate it.

Answer:CD-Rom not detecting CDs

If you right click on the Drive letter and choose properties and click on the AutoPlay tab is the radio button 'prompt me each time for an action' selected?

I'll continue to research this, sounds like something wierd with your OS, guessing Windows here.

EDIT: Something just popped in my head. When you go into that area, check to see if your media (music files - .mp3, etc.) are associated with BlankCD in the windows.

You can check this another way. Open up My Computer and select Tools -> Folder Options. Scroll through the extensions list (.mp3, .avi, etc.) and see if for some reason thy are associated with BlackCD.

Im running windows xp SP2, 2 evga nvidia 8800GT cards, Asus Maximus motherboard, and i have the newest drivers. But i can not get the sli working, ive looked up how to enable sli and its supposed to be in my Nvidia control panel under Manage 3d setting, but theres nothing there that says anything about sli. I have the cards connected to eachother and its setup in the bios to PEG. "PCI EXPRESS GRAPHICS"

Answer:XP not detecting SLI

I've had problems with enabling SLI also. In my case, I started with one card and added a second card about a month later. I had to remove all the drivers with only one card installed. Reboot. Go into BIOS and switch from single card to SLI mode. Shut down. Install 2nd card. Power up and install the latest drivers. Reboot. Go into the NVidia Control Panel and enable the SLI (if it doesn't auto enable). Reboot.
That's what I had to do. I hope this helps.

Hey, so I just recently bought:
CORSAIR 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 550 (PC 4400) Dual Channel Kit System Memory - Retail

and installed them both in the DualChannel slots on my Asus A8N-SLI mobo. For some reason however, the computer is only detecting 1GB instead of 2, anybody know why this is?

Answer:Only detecting 1GB...

Right off, make sure they're seated properly, a lot of times new RAM is somewhat hard to push down all the way and you think you got it, but you don't really heh, happened to me before once.

Also after that, possible RAM slot could be dead and that would suck!

Hey Guys,

I have a PC with a 1 TB Sata HDD. I had an old 320gb IDE HDD that I thought I may as well use, So I opened the case plugged in the hdd and while the case was open turned on the pc to test and everything was fine, the hdd was detected and I was able to access it.
Put back on the cover turned on the pc and got suck at start up trying to find the IDE drive. Re opened the case checked cables and tried again...all good!

Now I left the PC for a while and now came back to it, once again I got stuck at the start up while the PC tries to detect any IDE drives. Only way I am able to get to windows is to press F12 to go to startup and select my Sata drive that has windows installed.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?
I didnt touch any of the pins on the IDE drive so I beleive its set to master. I am also running Windows 7.

Answer:Detecting second IDE HDD

Is it the only drive on the IDE cable or is there another drive connected to the same IDE cable? Also is the cable 40 wire or 80 wire? Needs to be 80 wire with the blue end connected to the motherboard and the black end connected to he master drive. Also check the jumper of the drive and verify that it is set to Master, you can also try the Cable Select/CS jumper position.

First of all hello to all @ Tech Support Guy Forums.

Basicaly I have a Sony VAIO (VGN-AR51M)

I had my laptop sent off for repair as my graphics card is a defect Nvidia chip and it had to be re-balled however you spell it. I now have the laptop back and everything is working absolutely fine.. But! I noticed when I checked in task manager & also the BIOS my laptop was only detecting 1GB of ram in total.. It detected the whole 3GB before just fine.. So i tried a couple of things out..

I took out the 1GB stick of RAM and left the 2GB stick in and it detected the 2GB just fine. I then did the same method with just the 1GB stick left inside and it only detected the 1GB.. (I tried doing both the sticks in each slots each time to check one of the RAM slots wasn't faulty)

The problem I'm having is that when both the sticks of ram (2GB & 1GB) are in the laptop it only detects 1GB of ram.. I have been racking my brains for the past 2 hours wondering how the hell this is possible but it sure as hell is..

So my question to you guys.. How do I fix it?

Have you called the repair shop and ask them what could be the problem since it was working before you sent it to them?

I just bought a WD Caviar 80GB 8mb cache HD for my Dell Dimension 4100. I want to have this hard drive set as the slave for my computer; however, it is not being detecting. I connected everything properly with the jumper settings set correctly and it still does not detect.

One wierd thing is, if I set the WD hard drive as the master, it boots directly to a screen saying "insert a disk to A: to boot" or something like that. (although, I realize the HD has nothing on it and has not been formatted), the wierd thing is that it boots directly to this screen and seems to skip loading anything else on the system like the memory, floppy, etc.

3- Just to ensure its not a master/slave issue....unplug all ur CD-ROM(s) drivers ( power and IDE cables ) , in other words , make ONLY ur 200 hdd connected and give it a try.

I would start with sub's flash disinfector, I use it on every drive I come accrossPlease download Flash_Disinfector.exe by sUBs and save it to your desktop.Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it and follow any prompts that may appear. The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives. Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.Hold down the Shift key when inserting the drive until Windows detects it to keep autorun.inf from executing if it is present.Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.Reboot your computer when done.Note: As part of its routine, Flash_Disinfector will create a hidden folder named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive that was plugged in when you ran it. Do not delete this will help protect your drives from future infection by keeping the autorun file from being installed on the root drive and running other malicious files.Next scan the drive with an updated good antivirus like avira or whatever one you use, then a good online oneMBAM was never intended to find infected installersI am checking to see which online scanner will allow a selective scan of only an external drive

Question: Stop detecting me

Hi all,

Not sure if this is in right section or not.

Sometimes i use yahoo to chat to family and friends. Sometimes i just log on to check a few things then log right off again. However, i have been informed by my brother that he uses a website called and can tell when im really offline or invisable. I know they must bypass something in yahoo to tell you this but i have no idea what it is.

I hear there are a few websites that now offer this and wondered if there was a way i could go online and appear offline should i decide without people knowing im really online. There probably isnt but you never know. I'm not really sure how they do it. Seems nothing is private anymore.

I've tried all sorts of suggestions but it seems nothing works. Dodgey Yahoo again.

Thank you all

basicly my problem is i can put in the cd and the autorun will work and the game start menu thing will come up, but when i click "Play WarcraftII: Th Forzen Throne" i get a sys msg saying

'Please verify that yopur Frozen throne disk is in your CD-ROM drive, then click on 'Retry'

the disk is in there and it is in perfect condition so no read error or anything

i think the problem is beacause yesterday i installed a slave hardrive and a printer that has digital camera slots so the comp reads it as a removable drive

what this did was change my CD-ROM drive all the way from D: drive to F: drive and thats where i think the problem is, the game is checking for the disk in drive E: (the removable drive) i installed the slave drive and then played war3 before installing the printer. the CD-ROm drive was E: then and it worked also, but it stopped working after installing the printer and CD-ROM chanign to F: drive

and yes i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, twice now in fact

Answer:Help please with war3 not detecting cd in cd-rom?

your cd rom drive might be dirty, try cleaning it.

Hey all. I recently decided to build a new pc seeing as my old one was very out of date.

I got it all working fine apart from the SATA HDD i bought.

Currently i've got it running on an old IDE HDD thats just too small for my needs so i got hold of a WD SATA drive and i'm really getting stressed over this thing.

When the drive is plugged in and i go into the bios the section where the drive is displayed is blank yet i press enter and i can go into the next menu where i can choose to auto detect the drive. When i auto detect it nothing happens.

My IDE Optical drives and my IDE HDD work perfectly.

I have tried reinstalling win xp and putting on the sata/raid drivers but after the F6 part where you have to press s to choose the driver i get two options one for a nvidea storage driver and the other for a raid driver. If i choose the storeage driver it says it has encountered a problem.

If i go for the raid driver the windows installation carries on until it goes to boot up into the desktop and i get a blue screen of death denoting a hardware failure.

I have an:

ECS mobo
AMD Athlon 64 4200+
2 GB 800mhz ram
Gforce 8600GT
40gb IDE HDD

Please help, i'm running out of hair to pull out.

Answer:BIOS Not Detecting HDD

OK, if the bios does not detect the drive, you are wasting your time with drivers, reinstalling windows, etc.

Have you tried a different sata cable?
Have you tried a different sata power connector?

You may just have a failed drive.

Hi all,

I have a problem on my hands unfortunately..

I have myself a Lenovo h50-50 and it is listed under my system specs. I went to turn on my PC after replacing my hard drive in it, and no screen whatsoever upon boot. The monitor does not turn on at all. I noticed that my led keyboard and everything else lit up fine and I could tell the PC booted because it took a while of holding my power button to turn it off.

What I've tried:

-put in another gpu
-reseat the camos battery
-change power supply unit
-unplug hard drives

I don't know what's going on because I remove my gpu and the PC boots with the screen lighting up. Everything is normal except for the gpu when I put it in my tower.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and I will gladly mark this as solved if it is fixed.

Answer:Lenovo H50-50 not detecting gpu

I found this:

Could my gpu's just not be supported by this motherboard? Should I just get a gpu in the list? Which one should I get then if I should?

Ok so here I go thinking adding 2 more identical sticks of RAM to bring my total up to 4gb will be easy - oh no... during POST it will only see 3gigs (tested each module in various slots and what not they work fine) - in the BIOS it only shows 3gigs, in normal running only 3gigs - yet when i run CPU-Z to check things out it finds all 4 modules and displays 4 gigs. frustrated i go digging thinkin' it can be sorted but i've had no luck yet. To stay on topic heres what i also see in the graphic adepter settings.

I have tried uninstalling and installing it, but it still doesn't work. When I go into device properties, it says the drive is working fine. Any CD I put in (DVD, CD-RW, music CD, games) does not get detected. The green light comes on, and it sounds as if it is trying to work, and then nothing happens. I'm sorry if this isn't enough information but Im not too good with all.

Also, I opened it up and unplugged and replugged everything in there, but I really don't think the cables are the problem.

Help me please!

Edit: I also tried a cleaning CD (it has little brushes on it) but even that didn't get detected.

Answer:DVD/CD drive not detecting anything.

:wave Welcome to Major Geeks! :major

Unfortunately, it sounds to me like the drive has read its last disc. You can try hooking up the CD drive to a friends PC, or create a bootable CD on a PC that has a working CD burner and then try booting to it in your PC to see if the CD drive works independent of Windows. Those are the only 2 ways I can think of to test it. If you have access to a PC with a CD burner, use something like a bootable memory diagnostic (there's one at this link; you can use it to create an .ISO file which you'd then burn as an image to a CD-R or CDRW) or a bootable HD daignostic (download from your hard drive maker's web site).... -OR- if you have your Windows install disc, try booting to it. If you can boot to it, then we know the drive itself is OK and that the problem is elsewhere.

Good luck!

I just built a comp over the weekend and for some reason windows is detecting a 3.5in floppy but I do not have one. Anyone got any ideas as to why its doing this and what I need to do to make it go away

Answer:xp detecting floppy thats not there

I would first check your BIOS, if your BIOS is unchanged from your previous install, it will tell Windows that there is a floppy there, you should be able to make the changes in your BIOS to eliminate the Floppy, if not remove the BIOS Battery for about a minute, then reinstall. I took a look today and did not see that or any other DLL's in temp (checked hidden) directory prior to cleaning then I let AVG clean as I have before, I have run Malwarebytes and found nothing, today ran Adcleaner and it came up with a registry threat at HKLM/software/description I searched the registry and was unable to find that combination (I did not have adcleaner repair it). At this point I believe that the ransomer exists on my PC as nothing has been cleaned and it keeps popping up.

Question: detecting malwares

Good afternoon everybody,

I am asking this perhaps silly question because I'm having issues with my computer.

What is the difference between HiJackThis and Combofix ?

Is one more dedicated to some seachs than the other ?

Many Thanks for your answer

Answer:detecting malwares

Hello fermomi and to BleepingComputer.HijackThis (HJT) and ComboFix (CF) are fundamentally different tools. HJT is primarily a special registry frontend that scans certain portions of the Windows registry and displays them in an easy to read format. It also make removing entries from said portions of the registry easier. Not everything that appears in a HJT scan is malware!!! It requires a good deal of knowledge and training to be able to interpret a HJT log correctly. CF on the other hand is a special tool designed by sUBs. Its purpose is to assist a malware removal specialist in cleaning a machine. CF is an extremely powerful tool. For the benefit of both you and others who may read this thread, please heed the following warning:ComboFix is intended by its creator to be "used under the guidance and supervision of an expert", NOT for private use. Please read Combofix's Disclaimer. When CF is run without trained assistance, it can no longer be considered a "safe" tool. Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again. You may find this topic to be helpful - ComboFix usage, Questions, Help? - Look here***************************************************If you are having problems with malware, I would suggest you start a thread in our Am I infected? I went to burn a DVD yesterday, and I was quite frustrated to find that every time I clicked the option to start the burn, an error popped up saying that there was no CD recordable drives detected. Now I tried Microsoft's tutorial on setting the registry files to properly connect my device ( , but the files they started to talk about in steps 6 and beyond, weren't showing up in mine.

I have a brand new Toshiba laptop with MCE 2005, and the driver it came with for the writing/reading capabilities is a Matshita UJ-8 driver, and is supposedly capable of reading, writing, and formatting discs of all types.

I also have tried listening to music cds, and that doesn't work either. If anyone knows what's going on, I'd appreciate it. Thanks-

Hey I have a eMachine, D3123 (

The issue is: when I start the system, all the fans and lights run but I get a long beep pause continuously.

Before this current problem, the system would just start but not boot up. The fans and lights would run but nothing happened. I reseated the CPU and heatsink. Now the beeping occurs. I only have 1 stick of RAM. I've tried reseating still the same thing.

I also took out the RAM and got the same thing.

I guess the motherboard is not detecting any RAM at all.

The PSU works fine, the power fan spins.
The CPU heats up nicely without fan. I was careful not to over heat.
I've removed all extra cards.

Sounds like it could be ram - try a different stick, or try it in a different slot (depending on the specs of your computer)

Alright, I just got asked by someone at work if there was something out there to detect keyloggers for her home computer. I told her just to run ad-aware and spybot s&d, and to run a good anti-virus program, like Norton or trend micro. However, she got a little more in-depth and said that she believes both her husband and sister are spying on her because they believe she is having an affair or something. Well, I kind of tuned her out once she started talking about her personal life, but while I was standing there thinking of the keylogger problem I realized that I did not know of any specific programs to detect such a thing. This person is not the type of person that should be digging around her registry, so is there some simple program out there designed to specifically detect keylogger programs running on a computer? I may as well make her a recommendation if there is one.

Dear All,

I'm new to this site, and Spyware as of this week. Having looked at the other topics, I know you guys can pull this one out for me!

I am running Norton and Antispyware (installed after problem arose)

When I start up my pc, after about 1-2 mins my internet dialler pops up and prompts me to connect. If I go to settings it shows it is trying to go to a website (can't remember if the dialler number changes - don't think so)

Antispyware now recognises the attempted change of setting, and is blocked to not allow it. However it still happens everytime I start up, and really I want to to go away.

I have run a full scan, nothing.
I have looked in obvious places (startup menu etc) - nothing

As a computer dunce I'm unsure about stoping any processes or applications as they all appear to be recognised.

Any ideas????

Ok, so I was running Win 7 RC and it was great. Its on a dual boot hard drive with xp installed. Anyways, one day it wouldn't boot into Win 7, so I ran a scan with Win 7's memory diagnostic scan and it said I had some sort of hardware problem. I didn't think that was the case since Win XP boots fine. So I talked to a buddy of mine and he told me he had a similar issue and he resolved it by removing all his ram and putting 1 stick at a time back in, and everything was fine afterwards. So I tried the same thing. I have 4 sticks - 2x1GB and 2x512MB. After I tried this method, I all of the sudden lost 1 GB of RAM. What I noticed was it was a specific 2 slots on my motherboard that doesn't seem to be detecting them. I also noticed that my northbridge fan wasn't working. I just finished replacing that.

So far I have tried a few things. I checked to make sure that the ram was still working. All the sticks work fine. The motherboard has 2 green dimm slots and 2 purple, the purple are the ones that don't work. I took all my ram out and put a single stick into a purple lot, and the system wouldn't boot. The bios only detects the ram in the green slots, along with Windows, but CPU-Z detects all 3 GB and even tells me which ram stick is in what dimm. I attached some photos of the CPU-Z on the ram. I also ran the regular windows ram diagnostic test, and after 67 passes, no errors.

Also, after reseating the ram a few times, Win 7 boots fine now, but th... Read more

Answer:Computer isn't detecting all of my RAM

There is your problem. DDR and DDR2 can't work together. The number indicates a channel the ram operates at. Looks like it can see it there but not use it because you MB is not designed to work with DDR2. I'm surprised it fit in the slow. I recently installed windows Xp next to my Windows Vista. I plan to use XP for gaming. So anyways, I got everything to work, I got dual boot working. The only big problem I have is that XP doesn't seem to detect any drivers. I tried to manually install some. I succeeded on installing my Nvidia video card driver, was quite easy because it was just .exe.

First of all, I have no sound and internet. So my priority is to get the network card driver to work first, so I don't have to switch from XP to Vista over and over just to go to the internet.

This is what I tried: I went to the website of my computer brand (, I selected my computer (AMILO Desktop Pi 3630)
Then I get a list like this: Flash - Bios, Audio, Chipset, Graphic, Home PC, LAN, WLAN, and Other.
I clicked LAN, and downloaded the driver it said (LAN nForce Realtek RTL8211 (Onboard on MB MS-7504PV, ?ATX, V 1.1, Socket 775) )
I put that on my external harddrive, rebooted my computer, went to XP, I went to Device Manager, rightclicked on what looked the most like a network card (it was something with Ethernet).
What you should know: There were around 4-5 devices with an exclamation mark next to it
I went through the wizard, browsed to my external HD, clicked the .ini file (from the driver I downloaded), it said it was installing some files. It looked good, until it finished, it gave me this error: This device is not working properly because Windows cannot l... Read more

You'll need to identify the hardware, either from the website or while booted to Vista and then see if you can track down drivers for it from the different manufacturers web sites.

For instance the Ethernet (LAN) is a nForce Realtek RTL8211. The nForce means it's part of the Nvidia chipset, and Realtek won't have drivers for it. So you'll need to go to Nvidia's web site.

I believe this is the driver for your chipset (and LAN/SATA)

You can try to search for the Audio driver (alc azalia 888s), or search Google.

I have been having some pretty weird computer problems the last couple days. My keyboard started asking funny, then video conferencing started freaking out...and I was not using it at the time either, last night I had closed IE and went to reopen it and IE started going nuts. It kept opening one page after another, by the time I had gotten it to stop I had 60+ pages open.

I turn on my computer this morning only to find that it will not leave the Detecting IDE Drives.... screen. I have tried to get into the SetUp, but nothing happens. I have files that I would like to possibly save, if I can get past this screen.

I am running Windows XP Home.
Any suggestions or any help would very much appreciated, I only want to get in to save some files then I'll gladly wipe out my computer and start over.
I am currenty using my laptop lol

If you received a CD with your external HD use it to load the drivers for it, otherwise Google the manufacturer's web site and find the drivers for your particular model and install them. Theoretically, Windows should have a driver suitable but ......

I tried to fix my son's computer which would not boot. The first tried to reinstall Windows XP Home and was told there was a problem with the hard drive. I formatted the c drive using a Windows 98 boot disk. I then tried to install Windows XP Home butnow the computer couldn't find c drive. I rebooted a few times and now the computer cannot detect the primary master or the CD ROM drive. I'm not sure where to go from here.

Answer:Not Detecting Drives

first check on the Bios those the bios see the primary master or the CD ROM drive ?
next if bios dont see it check the cable make sure is in on the primary IDE channel
next check on the Hardrive jumpers make sure is set to master if you have any other hardrive unplug from the system and only work with the main drive next will be to download the diagnotic software for your hardrive and have your drive check or write zero to the drive if you dont need anything from the drive and you want to do a clean install of windows xp if you do going to do a clean install setup your bios to boot from the cdrom first put your windows xp cd in the windows xp cd will let you format and partition the drive before you install windows

If I change the CD/DVD in my drive, it doesn't notice. Opening it just shows what was on the previous one.

I've tried uninstalling them and letting XP refind them, which it does, but the problem persists.

In W98SE, There was a "Remount" option, when right-xlixking on the relevant drive.

A) Is there any way of getting this "Remount" thing for XP, like a DOS command, or summat?

B) Any ideas as to how this little quirk may be fixed?

Answer:XP Pro not detecting CD change.

I used to have the same problem exactly. What worked for me was to turn autoplay back on. (It was disabled because I found it annoying).

I just installed a new motherboard and 2 new sticks of RAM (for a total of 2GB), and my computer runs great. However, when I right-click "My Computer", Windows says it only detects 1.75GB of RAM?
Any ideas why this might happen?

i recently uninstalled web n walk usb device from my computer.
and when i tried to restore it wont dectect it.
i have tried various methods, but it does not seem to be anywhere.
the device is working i have checked it on another computer.
i have a feeling i may have removed the usb mass storage device by mistake.
any idea

Answer:detecting a new device

Check the USB device section in Device Manager and see if any of the entries there have a red "x" or a yellow "!" mark next to them. I suspect they will probably show as alright. To update your USB connections right click on each entry in the USB section and select "Uninstall" (answer yes or okay to the prompt that comes up). Once they are all gone close device manager and reboot. Windows will reinstall them for you. Let us know if that gets it going.

Question: Virus Detecting

Ok, I know there's problems with my computer and internet and I know I have viruses but Norton isn't picking anything up. Is there a better program that'll do a deeper scan and help either bring those out or fix them. Every time I use Spybot or RegScrub XP the problems are still there and my java has to be re-installed.

Question: Detecting Arrays?

My computer(Details listed in signature) is annoying. I recently repaired missing or corrupted files with the Windows XP CD. Now my computer randomly freezes whenever Im on it. Everytime I restart it, and the last time I restarted it it told me that it was Detecting Arrays..THEN it would restart and go back to detecting arrays. IT keeps doing it over and over again. Then lastly it took me to a screen where i could enter the setup. But i dont want to mess around with *censored* in there. Anyone have any idea what to do?

Answer:Detecting Arrays?;start=allPlease keep your issue in the original thread...You need to determine as was asked if that is a SATA HDD or not.If it isn't there is no need for RAID to be enabled on that machine.Either dis-able it in the BIOS or un-install the drivers.

Hello Everyone:

Its official my computer has put me over the edge. I am using Windows XP and to tell you the truth Iím not that impress with it. When Rebooting the System, Plug and Play Message 'New Hardware Found' or Add New Hardware Wizard Appears saying it has detected a printer, doesn't give the name of the printer just that it detects one. However the printer has been installed and is working great. I thought maybe it wasnít installed correctly since the computer keeps detecting it so I uninstalled it and reinstalled. This didnít help so I had thought I had it figured out again what I would do is agree to the install this new printer so I went through the process once it was finished it said unable to find the new hardware, problem with installing new hardware WELL of course it did because its already installed your stupid computer. So I noticed at the end of this install process that there is an area that if you keep checked off it wonít look for this hardware again, at least thats what it says, however this didnít work it still detects this printer. Soooooooooo what I did next was try re-installing Windows XP why? I had to do something; I thought maybe the problem was with XP. But guess what? This stupid computer still detects this printer. Now I can click cancel every time I re-boot but thatís just a pain, besides the computer freezes up until this detection process is started and complete. This is a new computer and the printer has been sent ba... Read more

My Compaq LTE 5400 doesn't detect the floppy or hard drive.
It boots with the following message:

<F10> to enter Computer Setup"
-next screen-
"No boot disk in the system -- install a boot disk and restart"
If I enter Setup, both Hard Drive and MultiBay fields say 'none'
I would greatly appreciate any help with this.
