Solved: Time shown changed to military time

Question: Solved: Time shown changed to military time

I am not very experienced and running windows XP with IE6. My time shown on toolbar and all dated material (old items in outlook express folders, etc) has changed to showing military time -6:00 PM is 18:00 PM. When I right click the time on toolbar and get the actual clock, it is showing it correctly as 6:00 PM. This just happened sometime yesterday and I find no settings to get it back to showing regular time. Any suggestions as how to get it back?

Thank You tlh99

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Could this be something having to do with the virus or is it just something that I can change in Windows?

How can I add military time to an Excel filename?

Answer:Solved: Excel VBA -> Military Time

Are you wanting to save the file with military time appended to the name or just set the value equal to a variable? Below is an example of setting a variable equal to the filename plus underscore symbol + military time. If you want to actually save the document just issue the .SaveAs command instead of setting equal to a variable.

vName = ActiveWorkbook.Name & "_" & Format(Time, "HHMM")

'To include full path
vName = ActiveWorkbook.FullName & "_" & Format(Time, "HHMM")

vName = ActiveDocument.Name & "_" & Format(Time, "HHMM")

vName = ActiveDocument.FullName & "_" & Format(Time, "HHMM")

Question: Military Time

Yeah my clock is stuck in military do i fix it?

Answer:Military Time

Control Panel, Regional and Language Options, Customize button

1. In the Customize Regional Options dialog box, click the Time tab to specify any changes you want to make.

NOTE: To configure the settings so that the leading zeros in single-digit hours, minutes, or seconds are not displayed, type a single uppercase H, or lowercase letters, such as h, m, or s.

2. If you do not see the format you want in the Time format box, use the following guidelines:

? To display time in a 24-hour format, type an uppercase H or HH for the hour.
? To display time in a 12-hour format, type lowercase h or hh for the hour.
? To display leading zeros in single-digit hours, type HH or hh.
? To display a single letter to indicate AM or PM, type lowercase t.
? To display two letters to indicate AM or PM, type lowercase tt.
? To display text, type single quotation marks (') around text.

As an example: h:mm:ss tt

Would right now return on my Taskbar clock 9:56 PM and for internal use show 9:56:23 PM

I was attacked by a coolwebsearch and trojandownloader.exe before, then I kept on getting a message saying that I was infected, with the default background as well as the military time. I downloaded the Windows Live Onecare which took care of some of the problems, and I finished off with SmitFraudFix, Malwarebytes, Ad-Aware, Spybot - Search & Destroy and Avast AntiVirus!. But I still have the military time, I'd like to have assistance in removing it.

And as for future reference, what other programs would be useful for removing malwares?

Answer:Military Time Virus

My testing of smitfraud resets mine to military time, or at least that's what I suspectgo to control panel/region options/customize/time and reset to h:mm:ss tt;#entry839950I like this procedure for bad infection, you need to substitute something else for Vista and the ATF cleanerOften update and install the programs and then disconnect from the internetSDFix is another program that works with XP's quite powerful and best used only when normal programs can't completely remove an infectionSpybot is great for immunizing/protecting IE but teatimer can be very dangerousFirefox with the noscript addon is best for surfing to dangerous sitesUsing a limited user account is another way to protect your computer especially for other logins

Answer:Clock On Military Time

Ok, first one of the main culprits of this lately is SmitFraudFix. When run, it sets the computer to 24hr time. I have no idea why.

Second, fixing this is in a place you may have not thought of. You have to fix it in the International Settings control panel/Time.

You can't fix it in the Time control panel, which is ridiculous.

Good Morning,

What I'm trying to do is create a schedule in excel which adds two cells containing military time without a date ex: [2200] + [0600] into a total numbers of hours. ex: [2200] + [0600] = [8.00]

I've done this before I thought I just used a simple SUM function, I can't seem to get this for the life of me. I want to just be able to enter a time and excel understand what I'm talking about. I used to simply type the times into the cell and it would appear as entered. Typing "2200" into a cell would appear as [2200], which is what I want.

Currently, I've changed the format to hhmm and when I type "2200" into a cell it appears as [0000] when I click the cell to see the value, the value has defaulted to "1/8/1906 12:00:00 AM".

If anyone knows how to do this, I'd greatly appreciate the advice. I know it can't be too difficult because I did this on a whim about 4 months ago and decided not to use it.

I worked for a company who used this as well, its where I got the idea, in February we merged into a new company which uses an absolutely insane schedule format that is difficult to read unless you're working with about 10 employees.

Dear all,

I spilt some water on my laptop a few days ago but fortunately it's completely dried out and working perfectly.... apart from this minor (but important) issue. I would appreciate your help.

Problem: the system time does not stay correct. Even after manually updating the BIOS time and also even after manually syncing it with the various servers available under the time options.

Fix: set the internet time sync interval to every minute rather than its default setting? How do I do this?

Much appreciated.

P.S. This couldn't be a CMOS battery issue surely because even when the system is on and plugged in the system time still deviates from correct. (I assume the CMOS battery is only used when the system is powered off.) If I need it replaced, how does that sit with my Dell hardware warranty?

I need help with a formula to calculate standard time to military time. The minutes part of the equation needs to be from 60 to 100 minutes. For example Clock in time is 7:52:03 and it should be 7:86:05 (multiplying the minutes by 1.66). The clock out time is 15:12:11 and it should be 15:20:18. The standard subtraction equals 7:20:08 however, it should be 7:34:21.

The company I work for utilizes military time for all production tracking and I'm thinking of helping the specialists out by creating a simple excel program to figure out the total time, in hours, that we should charge our customers.

The formula should be pretty simple but I'm finding it difficult to hash out in Excel. I need the user to be prompted to provide a Start Time, i.e. 1500 (3:00pm) and then provide and End Time, i.e. 2250 (10:50pm). The output should be in the form of total hours, rounded-up to the nearest tenth. So, in this case 7.9 hours.

Here is the conversion chart that the specialist utilize on the production lines.
Minutes - Hours
1-6 - .1
7-12 - .2
13-18 - .3
19-24 - .4
25-30 - .5
31-36 - .6
37-42 - .7
43-48 - .8
49-54 - .9
55-60 - 1.0

I am currently unable to upload anything from the computer I am using due to security measure and policies. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I opened a file I obviously should not have. The background turned red and stated "This Computer is Infected." The clock went military and next to that it says "VIRUS ALERT." All my drives are missing and the start menu only has a few options. I was able to run an anti-spy I had on my computer but it did not work and I had to reboot. After rebooting, the computer loads to the desktop at which point the mouse will be free to move for a few minutes and then the computer freezes. I tried to run the computer in safe mode but it will not go into safe mode. I read about the malware removal but since I can not do anything when the computer loads I was wondering if there was some other option.

I have Windows XP Home Edition SP2.

Thanks in advance for any helpp.

24 hour clock is a superior clock to learn as there is no AM/PM
Right clicking the clock should open clock settings. From there select 12 hour clock and click to auto update time online. If you still have problems recheck for malware

Steps taken:

-Fresh install (From factory recovery partition) of windows 7, fully updated and drivers installed.

-CMOS Battery Replaced (&Tested with voltmeter)

-Bios Flashed & updated

-windows time service is disabled via services.msc

-"synchronize with timer server" unchecked in advanced time settings.

Further information

BIOS time resets to 01/01/2009 00:00:00 when windows time is updated/changed manually. If windows time is not changed manually, bios time remains accurate.

Upon restart after windows time change, and directly entering bios, the date and time aboved is what the bios time is set to.

Recurring problem

Answer:BIOS Time Resets if and only if windows time is changed

Hope someone has a better idea, but the first thing I thought of is damage occurred when flashing the bios. I recommend not doing that merely as an update unless a problem is present.

I would like to enter a long list of military times into a spread sheet without having to continually enter the " : " (entering 051223 to read 05:12:23)

Answer:How do you format an Excel cell to military time?

Look here for a Macro: down about 1/3 of the page to the:Military To TimeThis function converts military time, supplied as an integer, to a standard serial time number. For example, it converts 1130 to 11:30, and 1650 to 16:50. With either of these Custom Formats: 00\:00 or 00":"00you can make your number Look like a time, but it will only be a number and you will Not be able to do any Time Math with it.And in the future, Excel questions are best asked in the Office Software ForumMIKE

I need this date (3:44:42 PM)to read military time. I also need to add a month and year (4/15) in the same cell so my end result will be
I am able to change to military time. However, when I add the month and year 4/15, the cell content change, and the military time disappears. Is there a way for an excel cell to contain two different cell formats? Or, is there a way to ‘hardcode’ the military time so it doesn’t change.
I am adding the month and year by hitting ALT/Enter to take this piece to a new line within the same cell, but as soon as I do this, the Military time changes and the result I am looking for ’15:44:42 4/15 never shows up. Any ideas?

A couple of days ago, a red X icon popped up on my toolbar and I began getting popup windows constantly stating that my computer had been infected with a virus and that I should click on the window in order to fix it. I though it was a legitimate warning so I kept trying to click on it but nothing would happen. It wasn't until I actually read the whole message thoroughly and saw that the word "prevent" was misspelled as "pervent" that I began to suspect something. I looked up information online and found out that it was probably the Rogue Antivirus. I searched online for ways to remove it and one of the websites suggested downloading Smitfraudfix and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware so I did and I ran both. Malwarebytes showed infections, which I deleted. The website suggested running Smitfraudfix in Safe Mode but the first couple of times I tried this it wouldn't work so I ran it in Normal Mode and removed the infections it found. I finally figured out how to run it in Safe Mode, so I ran it again in Safe Mode. After this, the popups stopped but my desktop background changed to blue. I was able to change it but then I noticed that my toolbar clock was stuck on military or 24 hour time and when I would try to change it, the time shown would be correct but then when I hit apply, it would still be in military time. I have gone through all of the recommended steps in the Preparation Guide. When I ran Adware for the second time, it showed 41 items detected ... Read more

I have tried using a simple subtraction equation to determine the difference in hours using military time, however when you get to half hour increments, for example, 1700 - 1230, You see the minutes as 70, which is the correct subtraction. I need to know how to convert the 100 units to 60 showing 5 hours and 30 minutes, not 4 hours and 70 minutes. I thought if inserting an if statement to add 160 units, but can't remember the condition "ends with" 70. Thank you!.

Answer:Converting military time to hours/minutes in Excel

It is probably happening because you do not have the cells formatted as TIME.In cell A1 enter 17:00 << NOTE the colon - it is REQUIREDIn cell B1 enter 12:30 << NOTE the colon - it is REQUIREDIn cell C1 enter the formula =A1-B1 you should now have an answer of 4:30MIKE

My problem seems to be identical to MuffinMan's. Went to a commonly viewed website, all of a sudden I picked up malware of some kind. My background changed to a blue screen with a message saying "You have spyware on your computer please install antivirus 2008!" then every now and again a box pops up asking me to accept the terms and install some antivirus . My computer is running very slowly. It runs military time for an inexplicable reason. Also, I am consistently redirected to different websites, particularly when I am going to an anti-virus site. Also, the free version of AVG will not work.I went to a public library computer, went to and downloaded every free anti-virus and spy-ware I could get my hands on. Thats how I got here. I ran about 15 scans with 8 or 9 different programs. Most of the time nothing popped up but I achieved some success. The desktop background no longer had the message. The pop-up box also is no longer occurring.Still I cannot change my background off a blue screen, my computer clock is showing military time, I am still often redirected when web-browsing(although less after I uninstalled a suspicious-looking program through control panel), and my computer still runs a little slow.I've run hijackthis and kaspersky online scanner. I've never had a CMOS battery fail on me, so no clue on that one. What is your timezone set to, in Windows (or what ever OS)? That'll keep changing it, as long as you have it automatically synced.

If I choose F1 and enter the correct date/time and press F10 to save and exit - XP then starts up normally but the next time I boot up, the same problem occurs.

What can I do to fix this?

1) When i try saving graphics i.e pictures, backgrounds etc they dont save correctly. If i try right clicking on an image or bkground i get the windows interface dialog box to choose a folder to save to. Underneath i am presented with *.bmp file type and *.Art (which i cant see what *.Art is associated with) If i save with any of these types they are saved as FILE, according to windows. So how can i go about changing this so that when presented with the save as box i can not only choose to save as *.bmp or *.Art but i can save as *.gif or *.Jpeg etc. I think you can see what i mean right? Also i tried changing the file associations and adding a new file type association, Still no change there!2) When i download a file by clicking on the link or right click and save target as, when the download begings after choosing a folder destination i get that carp i.e download bar. It then says for Estimated time Left (NOT KNOWN) then besided that (OPENED SO FAR)Im concerned because before i could see how big the file was and how long is left. Now i cant, And i dont want a download manager as my pc i getting really clogged up. Hi Mad Boy I don't know if I can help but I save lots of photos, clip art and other images. I have folders for each type i.e. My Photos, My clip Art My Smilies, My Backgrounds etc. When I see an image I want to save I do like you say and right click to Save Image or Save Target as, then find the appropriate folder and click save. I never really bother about file type. When I later need to insert an image I just go to Open or Insert find the saved image and insert. Sometimes I have to use the dropdown box to find the file type but never really have any problems. With regard to your second question I'm afraid I don't know the answer.Regards Noels

I recently changed our wireless routers security from W.P.A. to W.E.P.. I downgraded because my sister purchased a internet so she can watch her favorite foreign language shows. The box only accepts W.E.P. encryption.

I use a WRT54GL which I loaded up with Tomato V 1.21. After the changes to our router, the laptop and one of our wireless dekstop PC (both machines with XP) keeps getting disconnected. My sisters' Ipod Touch works fine though. Sometimes it would show not connected but it actually has connection. Websites, I.M. and pinging worked but for only sometime and it will disconnect. I will reconnect (it takes longer than WPA) and would show connected then change to not connected after sometime.

Both PC and laptop only use the MS XP Wireless Zero Configuration.

Edit: Should I just forgo with wireless encryption (WEP, WPA) for MAC filtering? Or can I have both? Redundancy? Cheers!

Whenever I switch on the laptop (Equium L350D) I get the Boot Menu, and it just sits there and won't boot automatically.

It will boot if I select the HDD fine.

There is no cd, or USB devices attached to confuse it, nor is it networked.

I have tried pressing F2, but this does't seem to work and instead the only way in to the Setup Utility is choosing it from the Boot Menu. Once in the 'InsydeH20 Setup Utility' all I can do is change the order of the boot devices.
Once I exit the utility, it will boot as normal.

Can anyone shed any light?

Answer:Boot Menu is shown every time when I start my Equium L350D

Enter BIOS settings and check boot order there. How is it defined? Which device is set as first bootable device?

I'd just like to say that I have been coming here for quite some time and never even needed to make a single post because you had all the answers waiting for me, and I should thank you all a great deal for that. One of the finest communities on the web, and I'm proud to say I've linked at least a couple of dozen people to these boards, if not more. They all have recieved great help as well.

This time, however, I don't think I am capable of helping myself, and I think I require the assistance of a pro. I myself, while having been able to help myself before, really have very little knowledge of this stuff. Now, I did almost everything in the READ ME AND RUN ME FIRST thread, a few things I was not able to do. I think I know which malware problems I have, I am just unsure of how to rid myself of them, and I'd rather not take a chance and delete something important.

Anyway, I have attached my HiJack This log file, hopefully someone can find the time to help me as this site has many many times before.

Thanks, all the best...

Answer:Long time reader, first time poster...Big time problem...

I need the logs from the two online scans listed in the READ ME.

6: Online Virus And Trojan Scanning

Please run the below two online scanning tools and make sure you save and attach the logs later to any request for help that you post. From step 5 you should already be in safe mode but you will need to reconnect your cable now and possibly reboot and choose Safe Mode with Networking Support. If you cannot connect in safe mode for any reason (like dial-up users), run the online scanners in normal boot mode. You will need to use Internet Explorer to run these online scans.

Bitdefender agree to the license and then select Scan. Once Bitdefender completes the scan:

Click-on Click here to view the report

When the window comes up with the report. Click File, Save As.... and then change the Save as type to Text File (*.txt)

Change the file name to something short like bdscan1.txt

Then save it to your Desktop or anywhere else you can find it to upload here as an attachment.

Post the bdscan1.txt file as an ATTACHMENT.

Panda ActiveScan It will only fix certain viruses and trojans. Most items found will not be fixed. When it finishes the scan click on See Report . Then in the next window click Save Report. The default report name is Activescan.txt. Just save it where you can find it so you can attach to your message when you begin a thread with a request for help.

I use QuattroPro 9 for spreadsheets. From time to time, it stops working and I have to reinstall the programme before I can use it again, and then it works for some more time. I usually use Vista Home premium, but a similar situations arises on a computer with XP (Home edition). This only happens with QuattroPro and not with WordPerfect which I use for word processing (rather than MS word).

Any help will be very much appreciated. I have tried the compatability option for the programme, but this does not help.

Question: Time changed

Hi, my daughter has a very new Acer Aspire 5742 Intel Core i5 CPU M480 @2.67 GHZ 64 bit. The time changed so I tested to see if it was the CMOS battery by leaving it on. The time changed but didn't change back when I restated it. I think this means it isn't the CMOS battery but a virus. Can you tell me what to do now? Thanks so much!

Answer:Time changed

1. Right-click the system time in the lower right corner of the screen and select Adjust Date/Time
2. In click the Change Time Zone button.
3. If the selected Time zone is wrong, reset it.
4. If the Automatically adjust clock for Daylight Savings time is set incorrectly, fix it.
5. OK out of everything.

Hi Guys

Yesterday switched on my trusted Windows XP Desktop only to be greeted by an unusual
error message i did read it but carried on with the start-up.
Once fully started up i noticed the clock in the bottom right corner in the task bar was wrong.
When i clicked on to the clock i also noticed the date had also changed back to 2006 but all
seemed to be working OK, i put the clock and time to the correct settings and that was that.
But again this morning the same thing happened got blue screen error on start up and it asked
me to press F2 setup utility which i have done and have reset time and date from there so i hope
i don't get this again tomorrow.
Anyone know what could have gone wrong as it was all OK when switched off as normal.
I don't seemed to have lost anything and all my programs seemed to running OK.

Okay, I supposedly finished a thread to its completion here not too long ago, I had a persisting problem and I posted it in the XP support section, and JCgriff2 attempted to help me with my problem, he said that upon looking at my Hijackthis and DSS logs that the problems weren't resolved as I had previously thought. JCGriff2 says that my system is "Heavily Infected" and so I include the link to both my "resolved" Hijackthis thread, and to the thread in which JC attempted to aid me. The problems are getting rather frustrating as now I am unable to download much of anything on this computer anymore and Internet Explorer is now rendered completely useless, Firefox will not allow me to download anything, not even an image, so I'm at a bit of an impass, any assistance in this would be greatly appreciated.

Resolved Hijackthis thread:

XP Support Thread:

The logs attached at the end of the XP Support Thread should be pretty accurate as I've been unable to do much with the system as of late.

I was posting about my USB Problem in different forums and couldn't get it fixed. Someone said I should check the event viewer and noticed something odd around the time all my devices failed:
(Roughly translated)
The system time was changed from ‎2012‎-‎01‎-‎25T18:08:31.585827700Z to ‎2012‎-‎01‎-‎25T18:09:33.500000000Z.
And then i replugged all my USB devices and multiple notifications showed in the event viewer:
The process for the installation of the driver FileRepository\xfixenv.inf_amd64_neutral_a912a47172c4d320\xfixenv.inf for the device-ID USB\VID_041E&PID_30DC&MI_00\7&59E6562&0&0000 ended with the following status: 0x0.
So I assume the systemtime changed, the devices failed, I replugged them and they got reinstalled.
They are all about installing USB devices with the status "0x0" or "0".
Could the systemtime-change be the cause of my usb problem?
How can I find out what causes the systemtime-change and/or prevent it?
Thank you

Answer:System time has changed

Someone on Reddit told me the time change was probably just the system synchronizing with the microsoft server. So I went to the time-settings, clicked the "synchronize now" and all my USB devices failed. Not sure why or how but I set the settings to not synchronize and I will see if that fixes it.

It's critical that my PC keeps the exact time as I record TV shows on it so just a few seconds off one way or the other will make me miss the start or end of my shows.

I found it was drifting off too much between syncs so I found a program that lets me set it to sync daily, however it seems like most of the time it gets the time completely wrong, often as much as 30-90 seconds off. I did notice that when syncing manually in the time settings it normally gets the right time each time, so I don't know why the scheduled syncs get the wrong time.

I did try several of the time servers with the same results.

Is there just no way to get the Windows time sync to work properly and if not are there free third party programs that can do it reliably?

I am having serious problems! Yesterday I noticed my AVG virus scanner wasn't on so I clicked on the icon to see what was going on. It had been disabled! I clicked to enable it but it shut down almost immediately no matter what I did. I then tried to run SpyBot but the same thing happened. AdaWare will run but only found a few harmless cookies which I deleted. I have uninstalled and re-installed AVG which didn't help. I ran Housecall at TrendMicro twice but nothing was found either time.

Today I decided to run a scandisk and defrag but scandisk just keeps restarting. (yes, I had everything shut down and no screen saver on) The next step was to try to run it in safe mode but the same thing happened again.

I think its acting like a virus but TrendMicro says I'm clean. You guys are my only hope. I am using Windows98 on a Compaq Presario233.

So that trying to marry old hardware to new can be a game of chance IDE to SATA in one example.Yesterday I built a system based on a bare bones box[Mobo/Memory/ATX Case] and installed the optical drive in the conventional 'top of the box' location and the HDD in a 3.5 bay only to finds the the IDE cable would not stretch between HDD and Optical drive.- I do have a considerable stock of IDE cables they ate all the same overall length and connector spacing. The net result was I had to move the Optical drive the the lowest 5.5 bay and had to adapt what appeared to be a 'Floppy Drive' bay[similar to the other 3.5 bays but with different pressing and lips.So what has changed here? Is it because SATA cables are longer- perhaps maybe- or some other not obvious change in standards?

Answer:Stuff changed all the time in this computer lark

Yes annoying isn't it, they no longer expect you to use a IDE hard drive and optical drive together.

When copying eml-files for backup from a non-vista system (XP-PC, Qnap-Server) to a Vista Home Premium machine, the time stamp "modified" of the files is changed to the current date / time of the Vista PC.
This effect exists since some Vista update about 2 weeks ago.
It makes backups more difficult because they are based on the modified-time-stamps.
Why is this happening, and will there be an update to change this back ?

Answer:Bug copying .eml-Files, time stamp changed

Martin I had this same problem using the English version of Vista. I was able to delete the .eml key by first changing the permissions on the key. Right click on it and choose Permissions, then Advanced, and set the owner to the current user or Administrators. Then check the Allow box for Full Control for the permissions of Administrator and click OK. I was then able to delete the key. Hope that helps.
