Error writing application data when opening a program.....

Question: Error writing application data when opening a program.....

We lost power to our computer one day last week and it hasn't worked properly since. Ad-aware would not open so I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Somewhere during the installation process it freezes up and I get an error message saying it needs to close. When I try to open already installed programs I get an set up error that says error writing application data. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling those programs also with the same result. Here is my hijack this log if that helps at all:

Preferred Solution: Error writing application data when opening a program.....

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Recently whenever I've used an .exe installer I'll get an error as soon as I click start after choosing the directory, in the picture example I include below, it's of SA-MP, but it happens with any installer I try and use. Installers have worked previously, it's only recently it's stopped working.
The error is;
Error opening files for writing.

Picture;

What I've tried;
-Full system scan with Comodo AV.
-Revealed hidden files and folders.
-Run the installer in both compatability (Even though it does work on Win7, and as an Administrator).
-Also done the scan on CMD (can't remember exact command).

If you need additional information, don't hesitate to ask.
Brief Info:
OS: Win7 Home Premium 64bit.

Answer:[ERROR] 'Error opening file for writing' whilst using ANY installer.

Installers are not even accessible to Admins. They are owned by trusted Installer. Have you tried taking ownership? See tutorials here on SF.

I have a brand new HP laptop that I have set up. I have add all of the updates, including Service Pack 1. I have tried to load Kaspersky Internet Security 2011. It downloads just fine, but when I try and run the file I get Error opening file for writing. There is no error code associated with this nor is the a dll indicated. Nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm about to pull out my hair.
thanks, p

Answer:Error Opening File for Writing

Welcome to Seven Forums Miss Peach. In my reading this appears to be a common problem with Kaspersky. The easiest fix I see people having success with is to temporally disable UAC, and make sure Windows Defender is disabled (some also say to disable firewall while installing). See if this helps you.

User Account Control - UAC - Change Notification Settings

Windows Defender - Turn On or Off

I've been having a lot of trouble lately with a SCSI hard drive. I hope someone out there can help. Occasionally (this seemed to happen when the drive was getting full, but I'm not sure that had anything to do with it) when I would try reading from the drive, the activity light would stay on for a while and I would get the error that I referred to in the subject line.

After this would happen, I would run scandisk. Most of the time, it stated that both copies of FAT did not match, but it seemed to fix it without much trouble.

The hard drive is a Quantum 4.3GB partitioned into two FAT32 2GB sections (F: & H . The SCSI card is an AdvanSys Ultra Wide adapter. I have an external scanner and an internal CD-R drive that are SCSI as well. As far as I know the termination is correct.

To try and fix the problem, I backed up my data and repartitioned and formated the drive. I thought that had worked, but I'm still getting the same errors.

Is my hard drive dead? Should I try a low-level format? Buy a new SCSI card? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Error Writing To Drive H: Files or Data may be lost

How old is it? Most Quantum SCSI drives have 5 year warranties on them. It does sound like it is going bad to me... I would suggest backing everything up and getting it replaced.

You can check warranty status here:

Any thoughts on what could cause a MS Dos program written in MS Fotran to return a "write fault error writing device PRN" error when it works fine on XP machines? Software is installed on a network and runs on a local PC. PC can print from DOS in other
apps so LPT capture etc. is not directly suspected. Also tried while logged in with admin rights. Need help with a troubleshooting direction.

Answer:write fault error writing device PRN in MS-Dos Program on Win 7

1.
Right-click the Command prompt icon.
2.
Select “Run as Administrator”.
3.
Then type your admin account name and password.

Otherwise, you may use

XP Mode to run your DOS application or try the
Compatibility Mode. Please refer the following steps to use Compatibility Mode.

1.
Right click on the link of the program that you want to fix.
2.
Click on Properties.
3.
Click on the Compatibility tab.

4.
Click on Run this program in compatibility mode and select one of these:
Windows 95
Windows 98
Windows NT 4
Windows 2000
Windows XP SP3
Windows Vista
5.
Under Display settings, click to select the mode that you think that is necessary for the program to work correctly:

     Run in 256 colors.
Run in 640 X 480 screen resolution.
6.
Disable visual themes.
7.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
8.
Double click on the program.

Hi, I've installed Matlab in my computer 3 times and each time I have an error opening it. "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150004). Click OK to terminate the application."

I am unable to open this file. I have tried running it as administrator, setting compatibility to Windows XP and scanning my computer using MacAfee antivirus but it's still not working. And everytime after I close, Windows automatically reinstalls Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable. I'm not sure whether this is related to the application error issue. My problem has to do with Rescue and Restore on my Lenovo computer but I suspect that the solution will be not directly related to Rescue and Restore.

I bought my Lenovo last April and wish to backup my pc to DVDs. When I tried I received two error messages*. I then decided to uninstall Rescue and Restore 4 and download it from the Lenovo website. I uninstalled the original R&R and downloaded tvtrnr4v_117en.exe. Unfortunately, after going through the long installation process I received the following message:

Error 1304: Error writing to file C:\Program Files\Common Files\Lenovo\Logger\logman.exe. Verify that you have access to that directory

When I looked at the Logger directory I found that it was apparently empty. As far as I know I have Administrator Access (I haven't creater a User Access)

Any suggestions??? (I have spent all morning on this and am getting sore eyes)

* Error 25013: Error obtaining the Rescue and Environment drive letter and

Error 25012: Error accessing the Rescue and Recovery service partition

As I have uninstalled the original Rescue and Recovery these error messages no longer apply

Answer:0xc0000135 error opening application

I believe that error is related to Microsoft .Net Framework which you may need to install or re-install if it's already present. There are several versions which different applications need, so you may have to investigate which version you require for whatever applications you have which need them.Alternatively, just install all versions which work on XP:http://www.microsoft.com/net/downlo...There is also the latest version here:http://www.microsoft.com/download/e...Please note, latest version requires Windows XP with SP3 if installing on XP, and earlier versions may also have minimum service pack requirements.

Answer:Error Pop Up Each Time Opening A Application

Hello ah_wei and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I don't see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean. It appears that there are multiple anti-virus applications running on this computer (Kapersky and AVG). Running more than 1 anti-virus application at the same time can cause file access and resource issues and if there is an infection the multiple programs can actually block each other from dealing with the infected file(s). I highly recommend that you choose which application you want to keep and uninstall the other one(s) to prevent these problems. The HijackThis forum deals exclusively with virus and malware issues. HijackThis does not have the capability to analyze performance, hardware or application issues. For these types of issues I would suggest posting to the Windows XP Home and Professional forum. The techs in that forum specialize in matters pertaining to the operating system, performance and applications. Let them know that you have been to this forum and that no malware was found. When posting to any other forum, do not post a HijackThis log or the post will simply be moved back to this forum for infection analysis. That is what HijackThis is used for and that is what we specialize in here in this forum. Also, when posting in any other forum for assistance, give as much detail as possible regarding any issues that are occurring. The more information they have, the better the techs can analyze the issue and make any recommendations for resolving it... Read more

When I try and play Batman Arkham Origins or Bioshock Infinite, it gives me an application error 0x000007b. I've reinstalled both, reinstalled the visual c++ components. I've done a sfc /scannow and I have the sfcdetails.txt here.
I really wish to play these games, as I was able to play them both for a bit then they stopped working. The problem could be with more than just those two things, I just haven't played everything since it's started.

Answer:0x7b application opening error with certain games

Hi, Welcome to 8 forums.

I will suggest to run SFC /SCANNOW atleast 3 more times. So that it can find the exact issue. Once it finds the issues (mostly it will give you an error that it was not able to fix some .dll file). Once you run that you can simply copy that file from your Win 8 disc to system folder. problem solved.

Ok first im gunna need to check how much RAM you have left avaliable do this by:
1. Go to Start and click Run
2. Type "dxdiag" and click OK
3. Click the Save ALL Information
4. On this forum you'll need to upload the file as a attachment. The file will probably be saved to your desktop and will be named "DxDiag.txt".

I noticed after about 15 minutes from booting, in the reliability monitor for windows 7, under view all reliability problem reports, I saw a entry similar to these two.

CompatEntityAnalysis --> AE Application Inventory - Sysinternals Forums

Windows 7 Reliability History "Program Data Updater" - Windows 7

The entry seems to be gone for me now, but what is it? The PDU seems to be a part of windows (I recently updated video drivers and got windows updates, however the windows updates seem bugged and keep reinstalling the same updates)
Is this a legitimate problem report or is something going on?

TOSHIBA Satellite L850D
Windows 8.1 (x64)

I purchased and installed Legacy 8 Genealogy Program a couple months ago. It appears to install correctly but when I try to run it I get this error message. "ActiveX component can't create object" The company's website provides some recommended fixes all of which I have tried and have been unsuccessful. One recommended fix was to upgrade to Windows 8.1 from 8.0 which I did and that fixed the issue once. The next attempt at opening the program produced the same error message. It was suggested to me that it could be a malware problem which is why I'm here. I'm at a loss and could use some help if someone has any suggestions.

Answer:Error opening a new program

This doesn't sound like a malware issue, but there are some things to clean up.

Rerun RogueKiller and have it fix this item:

Code:
¤¤¤ Scheduled tasks : 2 ¤¤¤
[Suspicious.Path] [URL="file://\\4670"]\\4670[/URL] -- wscript.exe (C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Temp\launchie.vbs //B) -> FOUND
Now rerun Hitman and have it fix everything it finds.

Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.

Hi I have been having problems lately with System Restore, Magnify, and WordPad (the only ones i have noticed so far) that when I start them they give me an error stating they're "not valid win32 application(s)". I was able to fix my system restore by opening command and doing a 'SFC /SCANNOW' scan. I was wondering if there is anythig else I can type in command to hopefully fix the other two programs? Or are there any other solutions to this problem?

Answer:'program.exe' is not a valid win32 application error

Every single time I try to print something, I get a white error box that says WordPad, AOL, NotePad, Paint, (or which ever program I try - it happens with all programs ) has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Error signature:
AppName: wordpad.exe AppVer: 5.1.2600.1106 ModName: hpzntp07.dll
ModVer: 2.140.0.0 Offset: 00026403

Can someone please help me asap? I cant print anything at all because of this. I have a Dell, WinXP.
Thank you

Answer:Get Application error every time I try to print, regardless of which program I use

Which HP printer are you using?

If Windows XP detected and used its own drivers, you should download the up-to-date drivers. (hpzntp07.dll is a HP driver)

Hi all,

I'm having a rather strange issue that I haven't been able to trace, mostly because although the error itself makes sense to me, I have no idea what it means.

I'm using Windows XP pro, 32 bit with service pack 3 on an HP 8510W notebook. Recently I noticed that every time I closed a program, or a program exited properly, I received an error that looked something like this.

notepad.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x00bb1f3e" referenced memory at "0x00000004". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program

iexplore.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x03051f3e" referenced memory at "0x00000004". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program

taskmgr.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x009c1f3e" referenced memory at "0x00000004". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program
And so on, with everything from Reaper to firefox to Task Manager. I've also noticed two other things, which are:
A. this error never occurs if I manually end the task from within task manager or tskill, only when the program legitimately exits.
B. The first hex value always changes, but the second value, the memory being referenced, always stays the same.

This windows install has had some issues in the past anyway, and I'm two steps from installing windows 7 on this thing as it is. The on... Read more

Answer:Error Opening Disc2phone Program

Hi Mashu.Looked around a few minutes and it seems you're not alone with that problem. Some people have gotten the issue resolved using the Microsoft .NET Framework redistributal package rather then using the one on the software installation cd. They are different versions.Go to Add\Remove, uninstall the exisiting .NET Framework app then do the same with the Disc2Phone software. Reboot if\when prompted.Go to Microsoft's site, download and install the Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package here, then reinstall the Disc2phone software.

I use a program called Juice to download Podcasts and today when I went to open it I got the message Error Occured See the Log File Crogram Files\Juice\Juiceexe.log

I'm guessing that it is a hidden file because when I went to Crogram Files\Juice there was no exe.log

How do I get to that file?

I just wanted to add that I figured out how to see the hidden files but that exe.log still doesn't show.

Thanks!

when i try to open this certain program, i keep getting the error message " REGISTRY EDITING DISABLED BY ADMINISTRATOR" . how do i go about enabling my registry editing capabilities?

Answer:error message when opening a program

here your profile is limited on the normal user privileges.. meaning u cannot install softwares that adds new values to the registry. u need the administrator to add ur account under the security tab of each of the files, regedit.exe and regedt32.exe .. otherwize, see if u can get the local administrator password, login and install the program ..

or maybe a policy, .. start > run > type gpedit.msc and press enter.
expand User Configuration > Administrative Templates >System .. u'll find "Disable registry editing tools" .. if it's enabled, then it's active. u can change it to disabled.

I tried opening a program from C:\Program Files then this error popped up.

Maybe my registry cleaner has caused the problem http://www.regsofts.com/free_registry_repair/registry_repair.htm

Answer:Error when opening C:\Program Files

Do you have Google Toolbar or Yahoo! Toolbar installed?

EDIT: Also, for a temporary fix, don't view in Thumbnail or Slideshow view. It postpones it sometimes, but not always.

I've found that some people solved the problem by uninstalling seemingly random programs. I've found the most common issue is having 3rd party add-ons enabled in Internet Explorer, which is odd that it would affect Explorer.

Answer:Error when opening a program inAccess in win 8.1

Hey floyd...

It's just a perception of mine, but it seems to me that as MS programs get older (such as the Office versions), MS tends to burden them down with silly security "features". It really makes me a little bit angry I have to say, but I wonder if this is the issue you are facing. Given that Office 2010 is not specifically written for Windows 8 or 8.1, etc., I think it's possible that either a security patch for Office 2010 or a Win 8 security patch is the source of these messages. Maybe it's just plain built into W8...not sure.

I have seen MS' phony brand of after the fact security creep into Office 2007. I download a "security" patch and all of the sudden features are unusable, and I have to track down the setting, etc.

This in mind, I'm not sure if your issue is Windows or Access related. I suspect Access, however. Here is a link that might be of some help:

You may be able to find more at Google search [security warning office access 2010]

Hello and I hope someone can help. I looked through quite a few posts but I could not find an exact fit with my problem but I have tried many of the suggestions mentioned in postings that were close to my problem. First of all I am on a Dell Inspiron 600m using MS Windows XP Home Edition 2002 Service Pack 3. My problem occurs when I try opening up one particular program application (QSR NVivo). This is not a new software package and I never had a problem with it before. However the problem began right after I updated my Yahoo tool bar, ran its antispyware and removed what it found. I did check to see if any of what it found seemed related to any certain applications but nothing stood out as anything more than adware and one trojan. So after removing those issues I tried to open my NVivo software which resulted in the stop error: 0x0000008E (0x00000005, 0xF4c6c21D, 0xF17cc7Ec, 0x00000000). At the top of the screen but not in the area where it would identify any drivers it said "Try changing video adapters" (just thought that might be worth including) Anyways, this happens each time now. I did remove the yahoo updates in case that was an issue. Solutions I tried: - Tried the driver reset tool but it showed nothing wrong. - Tried a system restore but for some reason there were no restore points available. - Windows Memory Diagnostic. I downloaded the necessary files onto a bootable CD through my NERO software but the diagnostic never ran and only opened up a DOS ... Read more

Answer:Opening A Downloaded Program Get A Error Message

Hello and to BC

First and foremost about this, have you scanned your computer for Any sort of malware before / after doing this download as it may be infected, Just a thought

Secondly, what type of program are you trying to download, if its a simple program such as an AV , or a free game or something like that, from a trusted site, it should not be giving you an error such as that

if its an older exe file maybe it just won't work with your xp, Just a couple of thoughts to toss out there
Hope to hear from you soon

Hello,

I hope all is well in your world.

I've been infested with Bad Image errors on EVERY program I open manually, or that opens during start up.

The familiar error reads, ""C:\Windows\system32\ajpjDhglj.DLL is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or software vendow for support."

[the "xxxxx".DLL varies with every program, too numerous to note, but the rest of the error is the same with everything I open; in the ajpjDhglj.DLL instance, the program is SendSpace]

I have Norton 360 running (although McAfee was the program running when the problem began; I've since uninstalled it), and I've used Norton's Eraser Tool and Bootable Recovery Tool, AVG's and Sophos' rootkit cleaners, and AVS' registry cleaner to no avail. I did a scan with PC Cleaner, but I did not register in order to fix the 2,000+ questionable items it found even after the AVS scan and fixes.

I have downloaded the TSG files as agreed.

Thanks in advance for any assistance with this plague. Everything else seems to be working fine (although I have no idea if these errors represent a vulnerability beyond Norton's reach).

Here's my system info:

I have a Y700-34ISH Desktop (ideacentre) - Type 90DF00B2MW, and the "Driver and Installation Application" program is installed. When I clicked on the driver menu it showed a bunch of items, which I went ahead and installed. It asked me to restart the PC, but after I did the items are still showing.

1. What is happening?
2. What are the benefits of this program?
3. Is it ok to uninstall it if I don't want those benefits?

EDIT: It seems like this program "updated" several drivers to older versions. At least that happened with Geforce, and I also had to reassign my headset as the preferred output in the sound settings.

Confusing stuff like this doesn't make one happy after spending $1500 on a new PC.

Re: Error loading C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Adobe\update\flac

You have skipped many steps of the Read and Run Me first procedures. You will need to refer to the below running what you did not before, and then once completed, run MGTools.exe again and attach the zip file it creates along with the other requested logs.

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Hi

I have just purchased a small digital camera that came with Ulead PE 3.0.

I went through the installation wizard for this software and it seemed to install correctly.

The icon for PE3.0 now appears on my desk top however when I double click on it I receive the following message:
IPE30 this program has performed an illegal operation and will shut down.

I check the 'details' of this error message and it says:
IPE30 executed an invalid instruction in module U32COMM.dll at 015f:4a10a40d.

Does anyone know what I have done wrong? If I need to uninstall and reinstall the software - how do I go about doing this?

Thanks

i keep on getting a BSOD with Kernel data inpage error on roblox i get the error while using the program how to fix it

Answer:Kernel data inpage error only on 1 program

First of all - welcome to BC !

If you are getting crashes only with one piece of software, in your case Roblox, your simplest first step is to uninstall this program, re-boot and re-install it.

To uninstall it:- Press the Win key +X and select the control panel from the menu that appears. If it showing by small icons, fine. If not, go to the top right corner and clcik on the down arrow beside 'View by' and select 'Small icons'.

Now click on 'Programs and features' and wait for the list to load. Scroll down the list until you come to Roblox, click once on it then move up towards the top of the screen, you will see 'Uninstall'. Click this and the program will start to uninstall. When it has finished - you will get a message normally - close the control panel and re-boot. Then re-install Roblox.

If you are still getting problems with blue screens after this, post back with details - make and model at least - of your computer and exactly whaat OS you are using.

I've been running an old DOS program (commercial, licensed software from a now defunct publisher) for many years with no problems. Recently it stopped loading/running and I get a message that there is "not enough memory in the near data segment" and some memory total information. The program will run on my notebook, but I'm afraid that will fail too one day and I'll lose all my old data.
I'm running Win XP Pro SP2 and can't think of any system change I've made that would cause the problem. I'm hoping someone can suggest a simple tweak that will let it run.

I've changed the file attribution to uncheck Read Only for the file and its subsequent files and folders, but still canot write to, or even get to, the Roaming part of the tree.

What am I not doing or doing wrong?

My office manager has a program she was trying to install on a Windows 7 machine. It is new. When installing, it will not finish and gives the "data error (cyclic redundancy check)" message. I tried to install the same program on mine (also Windows 7) and get the same error message. What is strange is she had this same program on her last computer (also Windows 7) and it installed and ran fine. I'm puzzled by this.

Hi,
I need a continuous DVD disc for photo storage, so that I can add to it when I'm backing up my photos.

I have DVD +RW discs and also CD -RW but don't know how to make-up a disc up so that I don't have to delete files from it first in order to write back to the disc (which is what I'm doing at the moment)

Could someone please help me here?
thanks

Answer:Re-writing data without deleting

All CD Media or DV Media (RW) is read only by nature.
While "packet writing" programs such as Nero InCD and Roxio Direct CD work around that to let you do read/write, please be aware that they are notorious for causing complete loss of data and cannot be read in a PC that does not have the same software installed.

If you value the image files, do not use multisession or packet writing unless you have at least one other set of complete file backups off the computer in a different format (preferably 2).

What's the brand and model of the DVD writer and what burning program do you use ?

I?ve been having problems from new in saving data to DVD. My DVD drive plays DVD?s but will not write data, so following various attempts following technical supports advice with removing and reinstalling writing software the unit was returned to base. The manufacturer tested the unit and said it was faulty so sent another unit but basically I still have the same problem. However when I tried saving data to CD using the DVD drive it burned onto the CD?I?m now wondering if it has something to do with DVD?s I?m using? The spec of my DVD is as follows:SONY 16 x DUAL LAYER DVD REWRITABLE +R/-R/RWHowever the replacement that was sent has the following on it:SONY DVD/CD REWRITABLE DRIVE UNIT MODEL NO./DW-D22A-B2At the front of the draw it has DVD+R, does this mean that you have to use discs that have DVD+R on and not as I have DVD-R?Can anybody advise me on what the difference is and whether it could be the cause of my problems. It?s just odd that the manufacturer?s technical support hasn?t mentioned this as a possible cause of the problem? Also I?m not convinced that the replacement unit is the correct spec, can anybody advise if the model no ?DW-D22A-B2? is a ?16 x DUAL LAYER DVD REWRITABLE +R/-R/RW? or not? As I think that maybe the spec implies it should work with +R or ?R but maybe the replacement I received is only +R, but as I said I?ve no idea what it all means?Note: I also have a 52 x CDRW which reads and writes fine. Thank you

I have a Compac Presario tower=OEM with windows XP.. We can copy files to a floppy easy & quick.. When we try to copy files/data to a CD, I have been using the Sonic Program. I would like to be able to copy a file and add more files with a couple of quick clicks. Steps we take now.
My Documents=Click file. Click copy to CD. Click the drive. Click Copy. My Computer next. Right click on the drive. Click- Write these files to CD.
Wizard comes up. Click next. Takes 25 sec. 1 file.
Isn't there an easier way?

Answer:Writing files/data to a CD

You can install a UDF writer program (packet writer) like InCD (Sonic's product is called DLA) and use drag-and-drop with CD-RW discs. There are also UDF programs that let you use normal CD-Rs, but they are rather flaky in my experience.

You can't have simple drag and drop with normal ISO CDs, because the ISO 9660 filesystem is not really suitable for storing data Writing a new session for every dropped file would eat up your disk space very fast.

Adjust This Setting Before Firefox Wears Down Your SSD Drive

does all the browser write data to hard disk and why they do that

Answer:firefox writing data to SSD

I think it's done so you can restore all of your open tabs if your browser crashes, Windows crashes, or you have a power outage, etc.

I'd guess all browsers do it, but you can adjust how often it's done in for at least some browsers.

I wouldn't worry much about it. Adjust the frequency if you want.

Hi
I have read several articles on the net which suggest writing data files to DVD is quite straightforward.
I have XP3 with all updates except those to IE8 and I have 2 DVD writers installed, one of which is claimed to be dual layer.
Following the instructions in the articles I should be able to drag files to be saved to a dvd icon but the only option available to me is to write to CD. The help files on my computer make no mention of DVD writing at all.
When I installed the DVD hardware I did not use a CD for drivers, Windows claimed to have found suitable ones, could this be the problem>
Anyway I have several files to archive which are far larger than a CD and would appreciate advice on how I can write these to CD.
regards
phil

Ok, running windows xp home on a peer to peer network. Have done avast antivirus and ad aware scans.

Friday my computer locked up (dang farmville!). I got impatient and did a hard reboot (holding the power button down). Quickbooks also was open.

When it rebooted it did the blue screen Stack rebuild thing.

Now MS Outlook can't open the data files and the quickbooks data file also appears to have been corrupted.

An interesting thing - we have the carbonite internet backup service. Unfortunately, it seems to overwrite and not make any kind of incremental backups, so once it's backed up, that's the file you can restore. I was hoping to try to find a file that had been backed up in the morning, instead of right around the time I had the problem.

Anyway, when I browse to look at the user documents and settings folder on the BACKUP, it shows the application data and local settings folders, as normal. On the computer, those folders are now MISSING. I uploaded a screen shot on our website: http://www.domesticunity.com/tempfiles.html (sadly too big to attach)

Any idea of a simple way to fix this?

I looked online and Microsoft Outlook stores the data in personal.pst - that file also appears to be missing.

Thanks!

Answer:Blah! Application Data Folder Gone & Outlook Data won't open

Got it figured out.

Was able to restore a recent backup from the Carbonite service of my quickbooks file and only had to redo one day of entries.

Then did some more looking at Outlook threads on the net and first found out how to unhide hidden folders - the Application Data and Local Settings folders were hidden. Then found a thread about a scanpst.exe utility that repairs outlook data files.

Now it seems I'm back up and running!

Thanks for trying to help! Even tho no one had magic answers yet, I can see people cared and looked at my problems.

We are NOT alone! LOL

Two things:
First, what is the best freeware program out there for writing zeros to a drive in DOS? I want a program that I can just boot to the floppy and run it off of disk and easily write zeros over the drive. WD has this included in their utilities, but this is an OEM drive. I had this one program that was pretty good for this, but it only ran in Windows.
Second, any body have any tricks for recovering data on a failed drive? I have this WD drive that failed last August or September. (WD won't send drives to P.O Boxes, so I had to wait until I came home from school) When it was failing, I starting saving files by copying from this drive to another in windows, but it didn't work too well. After some time it would say the drive was disconnected and I would have to restart. At first it was after a few 100 MB and very soon it wouldn't really let me get into it so I quit. This was mid Sept and I haven't done anything since then. It has just sat disconnected in an empty HDD slot. There is about 50 GB on it and if possible I would like to just image it onto another HD. I don't think I'd get enough run time out of it to get into it and save all I want. If I can get it to run for a good 4 hours I should be able to just let it sit there and do the work.

I would like to hear anything and everything. The best method, specific processes.............whatever. Such as put the good drive on primary master and failed drive on secondary slave or what not... Read more

Hello everyone,
I tried to copy some data folders on to a 4.7GB DVD with Nero Express. I could create DVD_video which could play on DVD Players. But when I wrote data folders it failed, on all my four attempts. Tried different DVDs - Sony, Moserbear etc. My DVD writer can write data on a CD quite nicely. A Nero Log is given below. As you can see there was no data over runs. I will appreciate any help to understand the problem and to solve it. Thanks to all of you. BTW I am new to this site Regards to all.

hi folks,

I'm currently running Windows XP SP3 on a netbook which is connected via WiFi to the internet. One of the executable programs I use require the netbook to be offline before it can load properly.

What I wanted to know was, is it possible I can write a command line prompt that will automatically kick in when the executable runs. The prompt would disconnect the WiFi, allowing the program to boot offline without having to manually disconnect everytime.

Thanks in advance for reading the post

Answer:writing command line prompt: no wifi when opening executable

Hi

For more information you can read this document Enable/Disable Wireless Card from Command Line

First you have to download devcon.
Unzip it and copy the unzipped devcon.exe file to c:\windows\system32

Then create a file in notepad, copy the code below and paste it into the file. save it to your desktop as something like myprogram.bat:

Code:
devcon disable *DEV_001C*
program.exe
devcon enable *DEV_001C*
The device ID (DEV_001C) is found in your dxdiag.txt file that you attached and is the device ID of your Wireless card.
Program.exe is the name of the executable program that you want to run - change it to the name of your program's file name.
The batch file will disable the wireless card, then run the program. Once you exit the program the wireless card will be enabled again.

Or else

Code:
devcon disable *DEV_001C*
start program.exe
devcon enable *DEV_001C*
This batch file will disable the wireless card, Start the program and then enable the wireless card regardless of whether you are still in the program or not.

Note Devcon is a very powerful tool and you will have to be logged in as an administrator to run it.

I want to write a program that can protect my external drive from being accessed without a password.

I want to make it run when the external drive is plugged into the usb port, and then not allow it to be closed. The program should prompt for a password and if it isn't entered or entered incorrectly will not allow access to the drive.

Problem is I want the program to run on linux, windows, and mac.

I know this is alot to ask so here is what i need to know:

What language to use(I'm not object to learning a new language for this as I know some java and batch scripting language.)

how would i implement the stop access feature and not allow the program to be closed by any means?

how would I make this program run when the drive is plugged in?

all help welcome thank you very much in advance!

Well, there are cross-platform languages like C++ or Java, but other guys already spent years to develop a good encryption software. Why to reinvent the wheel?
Check this out:
TrueCrypt
You have to encrypt the data because otherwise the files could be accessed with other operating systems...
Note: Programming languages can be cross-platform -- the compiled binaries aren't since different operating systems work differently. You have to choose one.

i've got a few calculations for fields based on other fields. I've managed to run these calculations properly in Forms and they are stored in the formatasheet view, but not written to the underlying Tables. i there anyway i can create a bound field with calculations in a Form? any ideas please....urgent!! thanks

Answer:Access 97: Writing Calculating data to tables

Love your name.

Ok. Don't do the calcs on forms.

Do a query with your table fields. Add fields and create expressions for your calcs. Create the form based on the query instead of your table.

You don't NEED to store calcs in tables....that's the whole idea. All calcs are done "on the fly" (when you run the query, form, or report), so there's no need to store them in tables. You're just wasting space.

Understand?

Let me know.

HI
I install Windows 7 Pro 32bit a few months ago on my new computer which also has a new SATA drive I I am experiencing weird problems with the following programs either not writing data or lossing it

Excel 2000 - more than occasionally not saving correctly
Turbo lister2 (ebay software) - some newly created items mysteriously dissappearing
Planner program (effexis planner) - data file for some reason suddenly changed to an excel icon and therefore I could not read it until I realised and changed it back

In case you're wondering if its the drive - I using a brand new hard drive Maxtor SATA2 and my device driver is not showing any problems

I dont think it can be a privileges problem either as I have only one account set up which is the admin account

I am starting to think there is some bug in Windows 7. Have you encountered anything similiar before and any idea if theres a patch
Thanks
Phil

Hello,

I am trying to move my thumbnails cache from my SSD to a ramdrive, to stop excessive writes and also speed up the cache.
I am using Dataram Ramdisk, and have moved FF cache, IE cache and temp files, and user TEMP and TMP files (but not system TEMP and TMP, which I moved to a HDD) so far.
Moving the thumbnails cache is a bit more tricky, but should be doable using junction.
I have created a 1GB NTFS ramdrive, created a folder TEMP for all the aforementioned stuff, and a folder called Explorer to mimic where the thumbs cache will go. I then saved an image of this drive and get it to load at startup.
To delete the original folder, I created another admin account, logged in and deleted the Explorer folder at C:\Users\[main account]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer.
I originally used mklink command line to create the junction, then subsequently used Link Shell Extension, which makes life simpler. The problem is, the 6 .db files contained in this folder are created in the ramdrive Explorer folder upon logging back into the main account, but windows doesn't appear able to write to it (which seems odd, as it's just created them!). When opening a folder with pics in, no thumbnails appear, just icons.
Presuming this to be a permissions issue, I allowed all users, system & admin full control of the ramdrive and the Explorer folder, and re-saved an image. It still won't write.
I found if I copied the explorer folder into the ramdrive with data already in it, then cre... Read more

Answer:Data not writing to Ramdrive using symlink junction

I don't really have a solution for your issue, but to be honest...I do recommend moving your caches to HD. Caching files becomes kinda pointless when you lose all the cache contents everytime you shut down or reboot your PC (that is, unless you save an image of the RAM disk to HD).

It simply isn't worth it, as there won't ever be so many cache reads/writes that they would be noticeably slower using the HD than they would in RAM.

As for thumbnails, definitely keep them on, since otherwise all the image files will be read and read over and over again to create the thumbnails. But the thumbs.db files themselves are pretty small and not worth obsessing over - why not just leave them on the SSD?

Truth is, you'll never completely stop Windows from writing all kinds of temp files and logs to the system partition, even in folders you wouldn't suspect of holding such files. I haven't even mentioned things like spyware/antivirus software and their signature databases yet, or Windows updates which are downloaded to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download and then installed to other locations...

Again, thumbs.db files are relatively tiny (a few 100s of KB at most) so I just wouldn't worry about them.

This has been bugging me for a while it pops up whenever I start the computer. I don't know to much about how to do things so please have some patients with me. If you can help me than I might just love you forever.

Answer:Error loading C:\Documents and Settings\ Network Service\ Local Settings\ Application Data\ hrcopul.dll

Have you run any scans for infections? I Googled hrcopul.dll, and everything that I found points to a infection.

Hello!
Can anybody teach me how to create a program that will answer an online quiz automatically for me?
There are 10 multiple choice trivia quizzes that I answer everyday. Each quiz has a question bank and it randomly selects 12 questions for me to answer. There are always 4 choices each question and they are all the same although the position of the choices randomly change every time. These quizzes are designed to show only one question at a time so I had to answer each question individually to proceed to the next. I imagine that it would be possible to create a simple program to answer these quizzes automatically.
I am thinking of a simple autoclicker that follows a specific flowchart.

Example:
If the question is "Who is the 1st President of the United States?"
then click "George Washington"
else
If the question is "Who is the 2nd President of the United States?"
then click "John Adams"
else
(this continues on until)
If the question is "Who is the 44th President of the United States?"
then click "Barack Obama"
Click Next button
(The above sequence will be repeated 12 times)
End
Thanks to everyone who replies.

You are to create a menu-driven program that will perform each of these operations:
1. Add two integers
2. Subtract two integer
3. Multiply two integers
4. Divide two integers
5. Calculate an integer raised to a positive integer power
6. Compute the GCD (Greatest Common Divisor) of two integers
7. Compute the factorial of an integer
The following conditions MUST be met:
• It must have a menu that allows the user to choice which operation they want to perform.
• The user interface must be appropriate and informative, as always.
• The program should run until the user inputs a ‘Q’ or a ‘q’.
• You must write and use functions (at least 7).
• Your program must behave reasonably for any input. It must not abnormally terminate.
• You must handle any input error conditions, such as dividing by zero, entering a negative power or factorial, entering a real number instead of an integer, or entering characters instead of numbers Hint: Consider reading input using string, and then converting to integer using a conversion function.
• You must use recursion to implement power and factorial.
• Use Euclid's algorithm to find GCD.
Euclid's Algorithm to find the Greatest Common Divisor of two non-negative integers
if x < y, swap x and y // x is the larger of the two integers
while y != 0
remainder = x mod y
x = y
y = remainder
GCD = x
