cannot delete results in search pane

Question: cannot delete results in search pane

Hello everyone
I try to delete search results in the search pane but I don't get the delete tag when I right click. If I try to delete with the red X in the window, nothing happens.also the result is in green.
When I right click,I open the containing folder and I see the folder but I still cannot delete it.When I start and open the crogram files, the folder I am looking for is not there and my folder options says to show hidden files.
Does anybody have a suggestion?
Thanks

Preferred Solution: cannot delete results in search pane

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there

I would be grateful for somebody's help but am not hugely computer savvy so can only explain and understand simple pc speak!

For a couple of months now every time I start up the pc I get three extra tabs appearing - Easylifeapp Search, a Google tab and a Lavasoft tab. Now I've noticed a new window pane appearing on the left of my screen with a small capital T in the top left corner. This contains a "related searches" results that I didn't look for.

I've been researching how to get rid of the Easylifeapp and Lavasoft and have removed them from extensions and add ons but they keep returning on startup. I use Chrome. I run Malwarebytes regularly enough but that doesn't seem to be successful. I've also run Piriform CCCleaner (don't know if this is good or bad..) but no success either.

It's all very frustrating and my laptop is definitely acting up more lately which I'm sure is down to this kind of stuff messing with it.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Chilliflake

I'm running Vista 64 bit with updates all, well, updated.

I have a folder that inside has tons of folders. Inside those folders are files scattered about but specifically there are html files.

I've searched just for the extension .html and gotten over 5000 files.

Okay -- no problem. Let's highlight and delete. I try highlighting 100. The prompt comes up and the bar thingy with the animation:

"Preparing to recycle
from
Discovered 0 items (0 bytes)"

And thats it. 10-20mins later it'll give me the option to delete and if I hit yes it'll sit forever and never do anything. I tried just doing 1 and got the same thing.

It's a very strange problem but I really need to get rid of those files. Any thoughts/suggestions? Or any legit software for mass deleting?

Windows 7 Pro 32 bit

awkward question, but the basics are:

I usually search for the word "UPDATED" and I often will receive results with 3-4 instances of the same old "updated" files. I would like to be able to delete the older files directly from the search results list, as I could in XP SP3 Pro. Seems I cannot. In Win 7 I seemingly have to navigate to the file location and delete them from there, which, to me, is a monumental time-waster.... *sigh*

what am I missing? any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Whenever I google search something and click a result, the page usually redirects to get-search-results.com

I tried running several programs like Ad-Aware and Microsoft Security Essentials, however they are saying my computer is clean. How can I remove this? Thanks

I am having the exact same problem. I've run almost every kind of scan I can think of (Spybot, AVG, SuperANTI Spyware, Microsoft Essentials, etc) and it won't get rid of it.

I got it from a video link from Facebook, I assume then is a Facebook virus.

The only method I've used to try to get rid of it is an AVG full computer scan and I also did a BITdefender online scan in safemod. Couple of trojans here and there were disinfected and deleted, but I still have the I-X search problem.

Greetings -A customer of mine recently noticed that his installation of MS Word 2003 Professional (Windows XP, SP2) would not display any results for his thesaurus. Until recently, he had not tried to use the Thesaurus, so it is not known if it worked before. Upon further inspection, I found that the context menu (right-click menu) would display the first layer of thesaurus results for a selected word, however clicking on the "Thesaurus" option in the context menu (which brings up the research task pane) would prompt Word to install an additional component. The installation box would come up for a moment, a progress bar would indicate that it was installing, and then would finish and dissapear. The research pane, however, would not display any results, no matter what word was used. Any of the other research options selected (by using the drop down on the research pane, underneath the word being searched) would result in the same process, along with the same failure. I have included three screenshots appended to one another in the following link. Another computer using the same version of Office 2003 professional (installed in the same exact manner, also Win XP SP2) on the customer's home network works just fine. Multiple reinstallations, and deletion of files (namely, %system root%\docume~1\%current user%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\%various folders and subfolders associated with office%) have proven unsuccessful, ... Answer:Ms Word 2003 - Thesaurus (research Pane) Will Not Display Any Results

Hi Robert.
Does the spell checker work or is it gone too?
By default, Office will install the "Research" add-on in IE. If nothing else, it should find on-line results, provided the add-on is installed and enabled in IE (Tools>Manage Add-Ons) and a site is selected via the "research options" selection in the lower right corner under the Research pane in Word. There is also the local source options there as well. Take a look.
If worse comes to worse, remove and re-install the office proofing tools.
To do so, select Office in Add\remove. Click the "Change" button.
Select "Add or Remove Features" and click the "Next" button.
Place a check in the "Choose Advanced Customization of Applications" option and click the "Next" button.
Navigate to: Office Shared Features>Proofing Tools>English.
Left click each sub option and choose "Not Available". Click the "Update" button and follow the prompts.
To re-install, go back to the same spot and choose "Run from My Computer" on each of the options.
Insert the cd if prompted.

Hey. Just recently i have been having this problem where when i search for something on google, yahoo, etc. and then click on the page i want to go to i get a completly different page. I go to a different site each time and for me to get to the right page i have to click back then click it again. For example, i searched for "circuit city" on google and then clicked the circuit city main webpage off the list of results. However, i go to a compleltly different website called "http://consumerincentivepromotions.com/rd_p?p=96680&c=8774-ccity250gc_emc_d6&a=2400-3sette." They are usually advertising sites too like that. I have a feeling it has something to do with a srchasst folder in my windows folder because i have tried to delete it (knowing that it has to do with some Searchtoolbar spyware) and it keeps coming back right after i delete it. Any ideas? Here is a HijackThis log.

Hi folks. New to forum :-). Yesterday I upgraded two Dell laptops and my desktop machine to Windows 10. I am really liking it so far. But I have two things I can't seem to resolve:

1. Search - On my two Dell laptops if I search for, say, User Account Control, at the top of the search results I will get a local result saying Change User Account Control settings. That result will be in grey. But on my desktop machine, if I enter the same search, I don't get any grey result at the top. All I can get on that machine is web results. I don't know what's different. I have initialized Cortana on all three machines the same way (I think). Can someone help me understand why I am not getting local results on the desktop machine?

2. One of my Dell laptops has a fingerprint reader. It was working for logins when I had Windows 7 on the machine. Now that I have Windows 10 on the machine I cannot figure out how to get the reader working again. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Rob

Answer:Can't get local search results on one machine (only web results)

set up some Win10 PCs.

disable networking. logged out and logged back in.

some of the machines now FAIL to do a local search.

any search terms type after hitting the Windows key, or typed into the search box produce NO results.

Microsoft is receiving *all* searches even if web search is disabled in search settings:
turned networking back on
opened cmd and netstat -aon; no connections to www ips
type a search for "notepad" in search box
my computer connects to a Microsoft IP address!

This is ridiculous!

I don't have that option above...

Answer:Where is the Search Pane?

I do not either. However, the layout options apparently vary by what type of window is being displayed (according to some reading materials).

FWIW, I lost the ability to get into Folder Options at all. I think it may have vanished when I uninstalled a trial of TotalCommander. I now use Explorer2, which I like a lot better anyway.

Click on a blank spot on your desktop (so you have focus on the desktop, but not on anything actually on the desktop) and press F3. Inutuitive, isn't it?

As well as the expected drives (3 1/2, C + D) and control panel, I have gained a 'my digital camera icon'. It also appeared in Control panel. Properties gave Fotonation as vendor. It was there whether or not camera usb connected, and refers to a Fuji MX camera that I do not own. Deleting references to Fotonation in Pregrammes and registry have removed all but a generic icon in explorer. It cannot be deleted and denotes as a 'windows system' file. Can I get rid of it?

Answer:delete icon from windows explorer pane

Try booting to safe mode and delete it from there

Hello!
We have a giant problem: our legacy ERP system - originally build for IE 6 on XP - uses the search pane as its main menu.
Since IE 10 will soon be out of support, we urgently need an alternative:

either an add-on that replaces the search paneor the search pane can be re-enabled in IE 11 (e. g. using a hidden registry setting)
Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks!

Does anyone know how to get rid of the preview pane when doing a search on IE? I know to uncheck the little box at the bottom, but it seems to recheck evertime I do a new search. I'm finding it really annoying, because it changes the current page that I'm viewing. Anyone know of a way to just get rid of it all together?

Which version of IE are you using? Also, have you tried a repair:

I ran into a weird problem. I am regularly a Firefox user. Today, I opened up a site in IE because it looked weird in Firefox. That wasn't the problem, though. The problem was that, minutes later, I accidentally clicked on the "view this page in IE" (which was added by the similarly named Firefox addon) option in Firefox's right-click menu. So IE popped up, but strangely with the search left-pane open, and froze.

Since then I haven't been able to run IE, which I need for Windows Update.

What happens now whenever I start IE is that the window will appear with the search pane opened, but the pane will be blank. There's no error message whatsoever, but IE will simply stop responding at this point. Since there's no error message, it's kinda hard to tell what's wrong, but I'm suspecting that there's somthing wrong with the search pane script that's bugging IE. So, is there any way, say a command line option, that can make IE start without any pane open? Or is there a way to clean up the search pane to make sure there's nothing wrong inside? Or is there another likely cause for the problem?

Answer:IE freezing with search pane

For starters, try typing iexplore.exe -e -nohome in the Run... window, and post back if this works normally.
Otherwise, we'll take it from there.

Hi all

Just thought I'd throw this in - not sure if it relates to recent "Feature update to Windows 10, version 1607" (Anniversary Upgrade) or the more recent "Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3176936)". However, I haven't noted this particular problem until today.

At one point this evening I suddenly found I wasn't able to delete pdf files - I kept getting the familiar little box saying that I couldn't delete the file, it was open "in another program" or "being used by another program" - something like that.

After a bit of fiddling and fretting I suddenly thought of the Preview Pane in Windows Explorer. I changed it to Details Pane on the View Tab and things returned to normal.

Anyone else had this or am I on my own? Anyhoo, I pass it on.

Cheers

Recently, when I use click the "Search" button, the search pane extends over the whole screen and no longer displays the width bar or close button. If I search and click a link, the pane remains and covers the page. If I click the Favorites button while the Search pane is open, IE hangs. I have to click it open and closed or right click it and select "Close Toolbar". I can no longer toggle between search and favorites using the IE buttons. This happened recently and I have not added anything to IE except the Yahoo toolbar. Removing this didn't help. Anybody with similar problems or know a possible solution?

Hello,My name is Jude, and I am in need of some help. For a month now I have tried to fix these problems by myself, but I now realize I need help to get this fixed. Here is the timeline, and what is still occurring, which I cannot figure out how to fix.About a month ago, the computer became nearly unusable. I ran SpyBot and Malware Bytes, which found 49 malware and 23 other problems. The two problems did their job. I then ran AVG, found a few viruses, and took care of them as well. The computer itself was better, but not the browsers...Internet Explorer refused to load, and although Firefox would, it constantly was opening a new tab to some other website...Then I found that even Firefox didn't want to load... So I tried clicking numerous times (once every time the "wait circle" would stop and no browser would appear) until either IE or Firefox would eventually come up. Looking in Task Manager, I would (and still do) find several instances of Explorer, iExplore, and Firefox loaded into memory.I then found that my search (Google in Firefox, Bing in IE) was hijacked, leading to a different website and opening more tabs again!----------Jumping to today----------------I have tried everything I can think of, and more.. I even updated Firefox, uninstalled IE7 and then installed IE8 (64 bit will load up, but not regular IE). The update fixed the Google search, and yet..When I do a search with Google, often times the top results will not show the link (I have to copy th... Read more

Attempted manual removal of files after searching for this problem on google. Located and removed files in
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader
"qmgr0.dat" and "qmgr1.dat".

These had to be removed in safe mode - upon restarting they were back again.

2)
Scanned computer using malwarebytes and spybot s&d. Other than tracker cookies, no problems were detected.
Scanned computer using TDSSkiller, which found nothing either. Some unregistered drivers were found when the optional settings were enabled.
Attempted scan using combofix, based on the success story here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic412458.html/page__st__45
although this stalls soon after it starts scanning for infected files.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Windows 7, Explorer V10.
I search on Google for a particular item,
I am presented with a number of different links.
I select a link and view its content.
I then click the back button (IE10 top left) with the intention of returning to the search results but it does not always return to there but stays on the current page. Sometimes clicking on the back button repeatedly will take you to the original search results.
Comments??

Answer:Google Search, view, problem returning to original search results

I have noticed that on occasion but as I have Google toolbar installed if I need to get back to the search results then it is a simple click on the search button again.

Hey all,I have a nasty redirect virus/malware on my computer that I have been trying to delete for 2 days now. The symptoms are as follows:-Google and Yahoo are in German (and therefore all websites I visit through those search engines are in German). For example, when I type "Yahoo" in my Google search bar it directs me to google.de, and then when I click Yahoo the entire website is in German. It does this with other sites such as CNET, etc. as well.-Clicking links often results in multiple redirects-I have Spybot and AVG 9 Free. Spybot has detected around 200 malicious files but when I attempt to remove them, I get an error saying something about the System32 host files.-I have checked for the TDSSServ.sys and didnt see one.I would appreciate ANY and ALL assistance. It is driving me crazy! I want to avoid wiping at all costs if I can, as it is a computer I received through college with a laptop lease program which I have since bought out and it has several programs on it thanks to the University which arent standard.THANK YOU! P.S. I have the DSS files below and attached. When I attempted to obtain the GMER file, my computer froze the first time and on the next two attempts I received the following blue screen with the message:"STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000). The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, then those products which do not encrypt the virus strings within them can cause other anti virus products to cause "false alarms". It can also lead to a clash as both products fight for access to files which are opened again this is the resident/automatic protection. In general terms, the two programs may conflict and cause:1) False Alarms: When the anti virus software tells you that your PC has a virus when it actually doesn't. 2) System Performance Problems: Your system may lock up due to both products attempting to access the same file at the same time. Therefore please go to add/remove in the control panel and remove either AVG or McAfee.Important note: It is important to run the removal tool after you uninstall the AV that you wish to remove.AVG removal tool --> HEREMcAfee removal tool... I recently started a new job and the computer I was assigned to has a nasty redirect virus. Every other Google search result I click redirects me to a random website regardless of which internet browser I use. MalwareBytes and Search and Destroy have not worked. Also, when I search for something in Google toolbar, it searches through google.de so that the results are all in German. Thanks for any help/advice you can offer.

I have no idea what's gotten into my computer, but when I perform a search in Google or Yahoo!, more often than not, clicking on a resulting link will take me to a fake result (www.clean-pc-now.com is a frequent result). I can still get to the page I want by copying and pasting the link's URL into the address box, but this has become tiresome.

I've done the usual anti-malware things -- HijackThis!, Spybot, etc., and I always have Windows Firewall, Avast! and Scotty (WinPatrol) running, and I haven't gotten any bugs for a couple of years, nor could those programs find anything that might be responsible for this. I've also run Maywarebytes Anti-Malware, Wise Registry & Disk Cleaners, but again -- nothing repoted. My computer is a desktop PC running XP Pro, and my browser is FireFox 3.5.2. I even tested MSIE to see if it has the same trouble with search engines, and indeed it does, so FF isn't at fault.

Here's the result of my DDS scan, and thanks in advance for any assistance:

On google search, when i click on the results i get redirected to hxxp://exit.travelsense-search.comWhen i go back to the search results all the results seem to be higlighted as if i have already visited each and every website. Before all this when i would switch my pc on everything would function normally but as soon as i start firefox (default browser) the BSOD would appear but after googling i came across few who said it could be a Flash problem so i unistalled it..now it seems to work fine Couple of days back Avast had detected some virus in the startup or startup memory not sure which ..I think it was called mondo something but after a complete boot scan it deleted the virus. I have tried D.D.S but it does not seem to generate any reports for me. I can just see the black dos window with the instruction and i have waited for more than an hour but nothing. I tried switching off Ad-watch live & Avast anti virus still does not generate anything. I read on the forums that if DDS does not work i can post Hijackthis which works for nowAlso i use an ADSL router (Netgear) for my internet connection and i never use the windows firewall. I cannot browse to any of the following sites with IE or Mozilla:http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/http://malwarebytes.org/I can browse to www.google.com. It allows me to enter a specific search keyword, pressing search and Google then returns results. However I am not sure if they are normal results or not . They do look pretty legit, (ie.. if I search for "antivirus", I see legitimate sites return from the search like avg.com and symantec.com, etc...)The tricky thing is clicking on one of Google???s search results you???ve just recieved. When doing google searches in Firefox or IE the links will get redirected when clicked on.
When the redirect is happening www.search-tracker.net appears in the bottom bar of firefox and the page displayed is wrong.
If I copy the link from the page (right click/copy link location) and paste it into the tile bar it always works correctly.
AVG does not show any issues.
Comcast cable network offers free install of McAfee security suite that I use to run.
When this issue showed up I found I could no longer do a virus scan with McAfee as the computer would reboot when the scan started.
All the management functions of McAfee worked fine but start a scan and the computer reboots.
I uninstalled McAfee and installed AVG.
AVG did one round of cleaning and now can't find anything.
I don't remember what AVG found other then tracking cookies. If it leaves a log behind that may still be around.
I have tried to install and run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.
It seems to install fine but will not run. Double click the icon and nothing.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times but nothing. Never tries to do the update either.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox but that did not help.
I just copied the the mbam.exe file to a new name and double clicked that and it started up. Cool.

Hi:
I have a terrific HP Laptop which I purchased back in 2007 or 2008 and I rarely use it until last month, probably only once or twice a week with only a few hours.

Recently, I started to use HP Laptop on daily basis and found 'Search' at the left side of the pane/screen is missing/lost when clicking on 'Search' at the top. 'Search' at the address bar is perfectly OK tho'.

Is this issue related to not use it for a while, .... or how did it disappear?

Only seen is 'Google' ad. popping up upon clicking at 'Search' on the tool-bar of the top.

How can I rescue 'Search' at the left pane of screen?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Answer:Missing 'Search' at the left pane of the screen

Are you talking about Windows Explorer, Internet Explorer or what?

Do you mean the "Search" option is missing when you (for example) right-click on your "C:" drive?

I began having an issue with my laptops ATI Radeon graphics driver not working properly. It is fixed now, but the other issues I was having at the same time was not being able to view indexed files through the "search programs and files" and "windows explorer search" box. The screen goes blank or does not produce any results. Also, one of my downloaded software disk programs will not open--error. This particular program, Logos Bible software, index its files quite often. Even when I am not using the program. I also cannot change my desktop background to any picture except solid colors. I think my laptop has a corrupted file somewhere, or it is infected with malware. Can you help?

Answer:no results when using search programs and files box or explorer search box

Since you state you have run ComboFix and are requesting help for that in this topic: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic443207.html

Please wait until you are cleared of any malware or changes that the malware tools might have made to compound this issue have been cleared.

Once it is determined that malware or use of antimalware tools is not part of the problem here, please PM any staff member to have this topic reopened.

Hi

Can anyone suggest how to speed up my windows search results?

When I click on the start button the initial results appear as fast as I can type. But this only applies to Settings and Programs. It is currently taking over 10 seconds for the first file name to appear!

Worse, nothing is cached - so if I want to do another, similar search a few seconds later, it STILL takes 10 seconds before the first filename appears.

Background
- Most of my documents live in a directory in the root directory called "docs" (e.g. 3.5GB)
- I have 98GB of free space on my hard drive (SSD)
- I have c. 11GB of Outlook emails as .PST files (Outlook 2013)
- I have c. 5GB of emails in an .OST file.
- I have some about 5GB of files in DropBox too.

- My system: Motherboard: Intel DP55WB (MA TX)
Processor: Intel Core I5 750 2.66GHz
RAM: 8GB = (2GB 1066 DDR3 Memory) x4 modules
Hard disk: SSD 300GB, "INTEL SSDSA2CW300G3 ATA Device"
Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 5770 - S/n: 7 78656 05291 8
Operating system: Windows7 Pro 64Bit

I rebuilt the Window's search index a few weeks ago but it didn't help speed things up.
In desperation I sometimes still use the desktop search called "Everything" (from VoidTools) ("Version 1.3.4.686 (x64)") which is extremely fast and light on resources and only searches file names. However it appears the author has given up developing it at it keeps crashing.

I am having the same problem as the person two posts down but I wasn't allowed to reply to that so I'll make my own post.

When I click on search results on Google, links will redirect to other search sites. This happens in both Internet Explorer and Firefox.

I've scanned several times with BitDefender Anti-Virus, MalwareBytes Anti-Spyware, Spy Sweeper, and Ad-Aware. Ad-Aware detected a couple of worms last week but I removed them and since then none of these programs have detected anything (other than some mod I installed for Grand Theft Auto which seems to always come up as a Trojan.Generic, but I've had it installed for atleast a year it's clean).

I have run CCleaner to delete anything in the temp folders and cache, and I've gone into the registry and deleted some [email protected] thing under Firefox extensions. I've also tried searching for a fix (I've found out that if I right-click links and copy and paste them into the address bar they work fine) and another forum site suggested that I download and run some GooredFix program and after I ran it, it said it deleted several registry entries for Firefox. None of this has worked though.

Anyways, here's my HijackThis log:

Answer:Google search results redirecting to other search sites

I was searching for a solution to my problem when someone on another site suggested ComboFix, and it seemed to solve the other persons problem so I tried it and I think it worked. I tried searching things on Google and so far nothing has been redirected, so it seems to be fixed.

Hello All..
I'm new in here.. but have used a lot of the solutions created by all of you.
But I could not find a solution for my problem.

Case:
I have a user account that I need to "lock down/restrict"
I'm using group policy for non administrators:
Controlpanel
Prohibit access to Control Panel and PC settings
Start Menu and Taskbar
Prevent users from customizing their start screen
Remove all program list from start menu
Remove balloon tips on start menu items
Turn off all balloon notification
System
Prevent access to registry editing tools
Ctrl+Alt+Del option
Remove task manager

This helps me a lot.. BUT If the user are using the charm bar search.. they can access My Computer or Documents or ....
How can I disable the search on the START Charmbar
I have used the article: Search in Windows 8 but just removed the all checkmarks in the first Tip.. that helps.. but it dose not solve it.

My goal is to have a empty field when I search for anything.. or even better.. to remove the search function.

I hope that somebody can help me with this.

Best regard

The Pilot

Answer:How to REMOVE/DISABLE search results from charmbar search

I forgot to mention, that the Windows Search service is disabled and not running..

Hi guys,

I have recently started experiencing issues with Google on IE. I work from home and do a lot of research on my computer. For some reason, when I type anyting into Google, nothing loads.

I can use Google under other browsers, i.e Opera and it works fine.

Also, other search engines such as Bing, Yahoo, etc. work fine on IE.

I have followed the process in the REMOVE MALWARE/Cleaning Procedure and am attaching my logs for your review.

Can you please help me with this?

Thank you

Answer:Google search does not produce results on IE, but all other search engines do

Rerun Hitman and have it fix everything it finds.

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.

Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator
Click on the Scan button.
AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R#].txt) will open in Notepad for review (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
Attach the logfile to your next next reply.
A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.
Reboot and rescan with both Hitman and MBAM and attach the new logs.

I have tried to find my situation in here, and cannot find it. I am on my laptop because my Windows pc is acting erratic. The search pane keeps popping up, with the left side saying to download Chrome. I don't have Chrome installed. I try to type in my password, and it starts typing by itself, like the key is pressed down a long time. Is this my keyboard or a bug? The area where I type flickers too. I try to go into control panel, and the selection keeps going up and down. I think I may have two different viruses. I have Norton Suite from Comcast. I did the full scan once, and it found something called a Heuristic Virus, which is deleted/quarantined. The pc was fine after that. The firewall has been on. However, it has now returned the next time I turn on the pc. If this keeps returning even after Norton Security Suite cleans up my pc what do I do?
Do I have a keylogger virus?

Answer:Windows search pane keeps popping up and typing is crazy

Let's find out if you have any infections or not.

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Please follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.
After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:
If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
If you cannot seem to login to an infected user ... Read more

When I search for something using the search box in explorer, the search results are shown in detailed view. Let's say they are sorted by name. If I click on the date modified field, instead of sorting by date modified instantly, the whole search starts over! Is something wrong with my Windows 7, or is this a "feature"?

So I click the circle-icon in the bottom left corner and in the text field it says "ask me anything." I type in "add remove" to bring up the Add/Remove Programs function - and I get no results. At all. All I get is a heading that reads "Here's Some Info For Your Evening." I'm on the house icon on the left sidebar. I used to get search results a few days ago, but I don't know what happened since then. Now, I get nothing, no matter what I input into the search field.

Microsoft sure didn't do enough beta testing before they decide to release this version. How to do things in this version are not obvious at all, and I'm not a computer novice.

Answer:Why don't I get search results from the Start > Search function?

Hi tricon7,

As for the "Add Remove" search you were referring to, it seems to be working fine on my system.

---------------------------------

Does this same behavior occur after restarting your system?

Did you perform a clean install of Windows 10 or did you perform the upgrade from an older version of Windows?

Hi. I've recently noticed that Google search results are being odd, and sometimes it will redirect to ad-pages, etc...

I've attached a picture of what the search results look like; searching 'facebook' results in no listing for facebook.com coming up! I'm fairly sure there is a search hijacker happening somewhere.

I've done an Avast scan, and found and deleted the file Gaopdxserv.sys, in C:\Windows\system32\drivers. Does this file have anything to do with it? Avast didn't find anything else.

I'm using Windows Vista, and the browser I'm using is Firefox 3; it also occurs with Internet Explorer 7.

Win XP SP 3
IE 8

Problem:
1. It started a few days ago with the "Antivirus Pro Alert", issues with pop ups and fake alerts. The fake alerts and pop ups was resolved by installing the "Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware" program.

2. After that I started noticing that my search results were always the same, no matter what subject I searched in Yahoo, Google or MSN I will get something like "www.toseeka.org, mycoupons.com,etc..." on the search page.

3. I tried several other remedies from similar posts and I am still having the same problem...not sure which virus, malware or whatever is on my system...please advice.

After a quick google search, the common issue appears to be this..:"It appears to be a browser hijacker for click through ads. Basically someone keeps redirecting you to their webpages so they can generate pay per click revenue. Hello all, another computer at my house has been infected by one of those annoying redirect toolbar viruses. It just showed up when I started Firefox. Firefox attempted to disable it but to no avail. I've removed it twice as an option from the 'Manage Search Engines' dropdown menu and it keeps coming back. Malwarebytes hasn't found anything. Ugh. Hopefully you guys can help!

I ran Defogger and turned off CD emulation.

for example i search for "blah" gives me a list of sites about "blah" on yahoo.com....i click on a link....it takes me to another search site instead of the website...with this url...http://cool-search.ws/se.php?qq=blah....i dont know why its doing this..i dont want it to do that either...and everytime i set my start-up page to blank....the next time i start up internet explorer..it takes me to the http://cool-search.ws website instead of what i set it too...any fixes? thanks in advance..

Answer:Search results take me to another search site...

adaware and spybot are the generaly accepted method for getting rid of this crap.

The generally accepted method for NOT getting it, however, is to make intelligent choices regarding which software package to open/use and which package NOT to open/use.

If this is for your personal computer: Think about what you are doing when you are online. And do a virus scan, because you are in a higher risk catagory for that kind of thing.

What exactly is responsible for this and is there is a way to make it permanent.

For example if I search my 2tb hdd,the first time it will take some time to display the result but after that, everything I search for is displayed much much faster.

Search indexing is disabled and I know about the program Everything and similar

Answer:Fast search results after the first search?

I would enable Search Indexing to make searches much faster, include everywhere you want searched including external drives when they are plugged in. If it becomes slow for any reason, just rebuild the Index.

I am running Win xp sp2 with AVG and ZA free editions. I use Firefox as my browser. The hard drive is 160gb with 2.85gh pentium 4 and 512 Mb of installed memory. I run Ad aware, CCleaner, Easy Cleaner, SB S&D, Spyware Blaster, ewido anti-malware and Scan defrag regularly & keep them updated.

The problem is that the Windows 'search results' box (asking me what i want to search for - pictures, documents, files etc) pops up repeatedly even though i have not initiated a search. The results boxes appear on top of whatever i am doing so that i have to click onto my internet page to make it active again. In say half a minute 30 or 40 search results boxes can appear. I close them down by 'close group' but they just reappear again. The problem is intermitant, but occurs at least once a day. Restarting helps for a short period of time, but the problem always comes back.

I'm not sure if this is linked, but also my inbox instead of showing a list of my emails sometimes changes to the 'google search page'. Again i need to restart the pc to get my inbox back to how it should be.

This problem started around the time that i downloaded a 'google update' a week or so ago. Not sure if this is just coincidence. I tried a system restore to a point before the download, but the problem remained.

Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Is there a reason you did not attach your PandaActiveScan log.

Your other logs are free of malware but you can have HJT fix the below two items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {CD9B7762-DFBC-42B1-BB30-02A78287B456} - (no file)

I would suggest you post questions about your problems in the Software Forum. They do not appear to be malware related.

Hello!
First I'm happy to found a way, if Search don't react.
If I stop the service 'Windows Search' I have the items in File Explorer.
(Restart of the service often brings no result, it works, only if I stop the service .)
Is there a easier way to get find results?
This with 8.1 Prof 64 bit

Answer:Windows Search in File Explorer brings results, if I stop Windows Search service

Now with Windows 10 Windows Search works for me.
The specialty on my configuration was and is,
that data like documents and pictures are located
on the conventional hard drive. Other files are on SSD.
It was necessary to release the folders normally used from ?quick access? in file explorer and to add the really used data folders.
To have also the common access to the data folders I created  junctions with
e.g.
cd /D C:\Users\mine
mklink  /J  Pictures  H:\Users\mine\Pictures
But normally, now I use the items of the newly configured ?quick access? in file explorer.

Thanks all for communicate

When I open an instance of windows explorer, the navigation pane show little or nothing (no drives, folders, etc.). Also the preview pane does not show a preview for any selected files (See Capture1.JPG).
If I open a second (or higher) instance of windows explorer, the navigation pane functions properly (the preview still does not show) (See Capture2.JPG).
I have previews set to show (See Capture3.JPG).
Also occasionally, the file icons will be blank instead of showing the file type specific icon. When this happens, the address bar also seems to take a long time to load. The load bar will stop before reaching the end and won't finish (See Capture4.JPG).

Does anyone know what is going on or how to fix this?

FYI I am running 64 bit Windows 7 Pro.

Answer:Windows Explorer: Navigation Pane and Preview Pane Bug

Try Explorer++ and see if you get the same problem.

Need to enable "Folders" view.
If it works then you can rule out problems with system files and it's probably a buggy shell extension.

https://explorerplusplus.com/

It's portable and runs without installation.

Let us know if navigation pane works using Explorer++

I had to manually find all related files to OE6 to delete it so it would reinstall. Then the updates. Now nothing shows up on the preview pane or when I open the email. I can use Outlook instead but what is wrong? The only view of the message is in properties: details: message source.

Answer:Solved: OE has empty preview pane, open pane

1. With Outlook Express closed, go to Start>Run
2. Type in: regsvr32 inetcomm.dll (with the space after "regsvr32")
3. Click OK (or press the Enter key)
4. Open OE and see if things are fixed

Answer:hijackthis results what do i delete?

Welcome to TSF.

Your system is basically trashed with all kinds of junk in there and viruses. Please follow the instructions carefully. Some of the files to fix and delete have the EXACT same filename as the regular valid filenames BUT they are in a DIFFERENT directory. So make sure you fix/delete the correct one. Take your time on this, we don't want to delete/fix the wrong items.

Go to the bottom of this message to get the latest version of HijackThis. If the site is down, you can also get it here.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Make sure to update Windows at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com. If you don’t have a fast internet connection, you can get the security update CD from Microsoft for free.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also.

Please download Adaware and install it if you don’t have it already. Make sure it’s the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Download the VX2 Cleaner Add-On and follow the online instructions to install it properly. Also make sure to customize the settings in Adaware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

Run an online virus scan at TrendMicro or RAV Antivirus. Select the Autoclean op... Read more

Hi all -

Somehow my father has managed to get something on his computer that is bunging up his system. When I search for something on Google, it appears to return valid sites, but the URL listed under the search results are NOT the correct urls for the sites. (See attached JPG for example)

I've downloaded and run FixWareout, then Hijack This, then winpfind3u.exe (as was advised in several threads I've seen before.) Unfortunately I don't have the knowledge to read them. Could someone read the files (attached) and let me know what I should do at this point?

Thanks!
Tami

Oh, I also forgot that sometimes if you type a URL directly into the address field, it will redirect to some wierd gateway/google search page saying it can't find the site... however if you type the address in 3 or 4 times, it will eventually go to the correct site.

Question: Odd search results

When I search a particular drive for files containing "mp3" it returns all mp3s in the folders on the drive but also a list of mp3 files in a folder called "audio" with no drive letter associated with it. There is no folder called "audio" on the drive. I had previouslyt moved these files from this drive to another and they are no longer on this drive. I cannot delete the files and when I look at the properties of any of the files it suggests they are zipped files.Any suggestions?

Question: Search results

Am I mistaken or has web searching becoming more difficult? It seems in the past I could put in a search word get a list of possible sites and find one in the list that stated exactly what I was looking for, click on it ag go directly to the site I wanted. Lately clicking on the listed item just takes me to another list of sites until I have brought up more and more tabs in my browser. Today I searched for "Anniversary Clip Art" . Although several listed sites reading "Anniversary Clip Art" appeared, clicking on them did not get me to a site with the material but only produce another listing of sites. before I knew it I had brought up six tabs and still did not get to a site with my material.

Answer:Search results

Well yes, because every troll is trying to drive hits to their sites, they include popular search keywords in their metadata, so that their sites will get hit even if no relevant content can be found there. And some yet subscribe to paid services to make sure their sites show up as top results. As for your case, I tried it myself and had no particular problem other than the top results required payment for the images; which is fine if you want to pay. When I changed the search to "free anniversary clip art" I had better luck although the quality of the graphics was so so. But I will agree with you, back in the days we did not have to jump through these hoops to find what we were looking for, so I have learned to be more targeted with my search keywords.

I recently have been having a bout with some malware. A couple days ago Defense Center showed up. I ran Malware Bytes, HijackThis, and Google's Spyware Doctor, both came up with threats (Defense Center being one of 'em) and fixed/quarantined them. Restarted, then ran for about 30 minutes and then AV Security Suite popped up. Ran the stuff again, caught AV Security Suite and fixed/quarantined it. Restarted, and got AV Security Suite popping up again!

I uninstalled Firefox, IE, and Java, ran Malware Byes, HijackThis, and Spyware Doctor, and restarted. Things seem to be going better now, but when I browse the net, specifically Google searches, I get redirected to random sites ending in /search.php or /results.php. However, none of the programs catch any malware at all, I've updated them all, but still nothing. But I know something's taking over.

Any help?

Thanks!

When I search for something in Cortana, I get the article for that thing (like a person, company, or product). Other than the Bing article on the thing, I get related results and pictures. I no longer get the results from the search engine such as website links or news articles. Is this happening to anyone else?
Tl;dr Search isn't working the way it should.

Sounds like you got "images" to come up when you search. Do another search and when the internet comes up, at the top will be an option to select web, images, local...etc.... Scroll across the web and it will stay like that

I came here from the Norton forums.
When I start IE, my home page is Yahoo, I put in a search term and the resulting links are wrong for the sites I know are out there.
ex-I put in Star Trek planets, the results should show Memory-Alpha (site) or Star Trek.com. Instead it get links to shopping sites, virus scanning sites, ect.
So far I have done the following-
1-Downloaded Malwarebytes updated it and did a full scan in safe mode. Result were 4 item, all removed, follow up scans show nothing.
2-Downloaded SuperAntispyware, updated it and did a full system scan in safe mode. Results were alot of cookies. All were removed and follow up scans show nothing.
3-Updated Norton Antivirus, ran a full system scan in safe mode. Results were nothing found.
4-Downloaded and ran Hijackthis, with the help of "Quads" over at the Norton forum, he told me what to check to fix.

That leads me to here.
One funny thing-I have IE set up so it promts me on running scripts and ActiveX controls. If I say no to scripts when IE loads up and after clicking the "Search" button, my links all come out like they should in the search results.

So I am asking you guys, what should or could I do next to fix this inconvience?

Thanks,
Tim

Answer:Search results not right

Before we start fixing anything you should print out these instructions or copy them to a NotePad file so they will be accessible. Some steps will require you to disconnect from the Internet or use Safe Mode and you will not have access to this page. Please download DrWeb-CureIt and save it to your desktop. DO NOT perform a scan yet.Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".Scan with Dr.Web CureIt as follows:Double-click on drweb-cureit.exe to open the program and click Start. Question: Search Results

When ever I click on My Shared Folder for example I get a "Search Results" instead of my page. Doesn't matter if I'm trying another area it always gives me "Search Results". What ma I doing wrong? Is there a setting I need to change?

I am using Windows XP Home. 78% free hard drive. I don't know what else to add or delete.

Thanks for any help you might give as I'm unable to access my drive D for downloading also.

I'm a newbie when it comes to removal of malware off my computer, and there's been one in particular called "get-search-results.com". I have not been able to get this malware off my computer. I checked one of the threads previously made, but I don't know if it applies to windows 7 and I don't want to try to follow the same thing and end up making my computer worse. This is the thread I saw on Bleeping Computer a little while ago, and it was a bit outdated based on the date it was posted:

I hope anyone could shed some light about this malware. I've been checking for a while to remove this, but I have had no luck with it.
