No uninstall folder in registry/ C++ runtime error

Question: No uninstall folder in registry/ C++ runtime error

I was trying to do a clean uninstall of ZoneAlarm, as I'd been having issues with it. In cleaning the registry, I've either done something wrong or there's a bigger problem than ZoneAlarm's issues - There are no remove buttons for any app under "Add or Remove Programs". I googled a fix and discovered a bigger problem that google hasn't provided a fix for: Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion there should be an Uninstall folder. There is not.

I did some additional Windows updates (including, finally, installing IE7), and got ZA reinstalled finally, but there's still no uninstall in Add or Remove, and no Uninstall folder.

How do I recover this?

Any help appreciated!

XP Pro, SP2, updated via Windows Update.

Preferred Solution: No uninstall folder in registry/ C++ runtime error

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hope this is in the right forum ... too much choice! I've chosen this forum because Net Nanny is a significant part of the prob - I think.

I'll give as much history as may be relevant. Was using Media Player 9. Can't remember if I was getting a problem then, but upgraded to Media Player 10. Didn't realise that I should have backed up my licences and so now unable to play stuff I've purchased and get "unable to find licence" error. Read in a forum that I could try restoring to a previous restore point. Did this. Didn't help so reverted back to original restore point. I had a trial version of NetNanny which I had uninstalled. Changing the restore point seemed to half reinstall netnanny. Now I get a Net Nanny error message ("Net Nanny config file does not exist") at bootup. Then after a few minutes a window pops up asking for me to enter an activation code. If I click cancel, I then get a Microsoft runtime error which closes Internet Explorer. Internet explorer can then not be opened without rebooting. So tried to uninstall net nanny but it won't do it - get error message "an installation support file could not be found". Tried to reinstall netnanny but get message - a previous version is on your computer.

The netnanny activation window has popped up several times as I've typed this and I realise that if I just ignore it, it minimizes and doesn't stop IE. That helps for the moment, but want to get rid o... Read more

Hello. This problem has been eating away for a long time this year, I have no idea what is causing it. I haven't had this problem with my previous computer. I haven't had this problem in this computer either, until it actually happened like a couple of months ago or so. I simply didn't pay much attention to it until now, when I really wanted to change the icons for my folders.

Basically, when I go to one of my videos folder, I right-click one of the folders wanting to check out its properties, but what happens instead is I get a popup that says the following:
Runtime Error!

Program: C\Windows\Explorer.exe
This application has requested a Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

Below's a GIF to demonstrate the problem visually:

As you can see, right after that happens, I click "OK" and the Explorer quits all the way, and brings me back to the desktop.

I haven't the faintest idea why this is happening. The folder is in a 1 TB external hard drive. And the hard drive works completely fine.

I checked again to see if anymore folders are affected, and there are indeed multiple folders that give me the same problem, although it's just those 4 folders exclusively affected by this problem.

Rebooting the PC didn't work. And just today, I downloaded a Redistributable Package for Visual C++ 2017 to see if the... Read more

Hi, I was running GTA San Andreas with the San Andreas Multiplayer mod on it. I began modding the gta3.img with a program called spark but I forgot to exit the Spark application before loading up GTA San andreas multiplayer. For this reason an error message was given when trying to load up GTA San andreas multiplayer. This had happened before and I used to just uninstall gta san andreas and then re-install it again and it would work again. However this time control panel -> add or remove programs thing wouldn't allow me to remove gta san andreas and i get this message

Error Loading C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\INSTAL~1\PROFES~1\RunTime\10\50\Intel32\Ctor.dll

The specified module could not be found.

Please help me. I've tried deleting all the gta sa files manually using right click -> delete but the program is still present in the "Installed appliations" list in "Add or Remove programs"

I need to uninstall it so i can play again.

Please help me

Answer:Can't uninstall a program Error Loading C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\INSTAL~1\PROFES~1\RunTime\10...

Use AUTORUNSA "Cannot find...", "Could not run...", "Error loading... or "specific module could not be found" message is usually related to malware that was set to run at startup but has been deleted. Windows is trying to load this file but cannot locate it since the file was mostly likely removed during an anti-virus or anti-malware scan. However, an associated orphaned registry entry remains and is telling Windows to load the file when you boot up. Since the file no longer exists, Windows will display an error message. You need to remove this registry entry so Windows stops searching for the file when it loads. To resolve this, download Autoruns, search for the related entry and then delete it.Create a new folder on your hard drive called AutoRuns (C:\AutoRuns) and extract (unzip) the file there. (click here if you're not sure how to do this.)Open the folder and double-click on autoruns.exe to launch it.Please be patient as it scans and populates the entries. When done scanning, it will say Ready at the bottom.Scroll through the list and look for a startup entry related to the file(s) in the error message.Right-click on the entry and choose delete.Reboot your computer and see if the startup error returns.Credit to quietman7

Hi folks. I have a problem when I click on a particular folder in my computer. (I don't have to open it, I only have to select it).
I get an error message from Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library saying, 'This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information'. The application (which I assume is Windows Explorer), has to restart. I have no problems selecting any other folders.
The problem folder is on my external hard drive, which hasn't been connected for a couple of weeks. But I then found that the error occurred on that folder's copy on the internal drive. (The two drives are not synced - I had simply made a back-up copy about a month ago).
Can anyone help?
PS I have run AVG 2013 maintenance, and this hasn't helped.

What do I need in order to fix this problem? This pop-up message appears when I patched my game

Answer:Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error" error message

According to the error message the application (the patch you installed) isn't working right and for you to contact the folks who made the patch. I'm guessing that would be the support team for Audition Dance Battle or perhaps the support folks for all of

Let them know exactly what the error message says, the specific ID number for the patch you installed, specific info about your computer (make, model, version of Windows you're using, amount of RAM, CPU, etc) so they can figure out what's wrong. In the meantime, you could try uninstalling the patch while waiting for a response. Sorry I can't be more help.

Due to an error with Windows Update ["WindowsUpdate_8024001F" "WindowsUpdate_dt000" which 'magically' fixed itself after a number of rebooting because of the the runtime error mentioning here] I performed a clean boot following the steps
mentioned here:
Normally, upon restarting, I am brought to the login screen with my user icon, and after entering my password I am able to log on.
Upon restarting after configuring msconfig.exe for a clean boot, I am stopped at the login screen. My user icon and the password field does not load, and after about 30~50 seconds, the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error window pops
up. If I press OK, the error window disappears but the user icon and password field does not appear. Wait another 30~50 seconds, the  Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error window appears again. This seem to repeat endlessly.
EDIT: I have never had runtime error before, and the error isn't popping up again, unless i configure for clean boot.

I was able to log back in by reverting the changes in msconfig.exe during Safe Mode, and so that is not my question.

I want to ask, what are some possible reasons for this error window?

Hello Tech Guys! I came this site because I was so skillfully helped about four years ago dealing with another windows issue. The site looks great.

I am not computer illiterate, but advanced I am not either. I installed Microsoft Office 2007and Microsoft Desktop Search yesterday. I didn't like Desktop Search and uninstalled it. I also changed some start up configurations with msconfig. This morning when restarting my computer an error message came up:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error
Program c:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSvcHst.exe

Pure Virtual Function Call

I have ran norton and it works fine. Once I click OK on the error and the Norton box on the toolbar disappears. Then I click on the icon and it comes back up. I don't know if this is a problem or not.

I have run a full scan, windoc, and a couple other programs to rid the registry files. I ran RegCure and ParetoLogic. Maybe I am making a mountain out of a molehill, but it does run a little slower at start up and always gives that error message.

Also when I look at Windows Task Manager, the svchost.exe (system) sometimes is running at 58,000K to 27,000K. Is that right?

Let me know what you think and what I should do. I want to thank you in advance for just being such a great tool in our internet world. Taylor

If you think the problem could be malware related, follow the steps below and we will find out.

- Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

- Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps below:

- Download HijackThis 1.99.1

- Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

- Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

- Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

- Run HijackThis and save your log file.

- Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

Hey World!I have a Windows Vista Home Premium. With all the updates etc. When i switch on my computer, it loads up, then on the loading screen with the little wheel that goes round and round, it kinda stays there fro unusually long. Then an Error Message comes up that reads:"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error! This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."Then the whole thing freezes and does nothing and i end up having to pull the plug. Now, iv tried a couple of things:Iv loaded it up on Safe Mode and everything is fine. However, SOMETIMES, when i restart it works in normal mode, but not all the time, and it is usually a one off, then it goes back to being broke.I have used CCleaner to find and fix all registry problems, but that doesnt cure it.I have gone back to a restore point, and it works until i restart it.The internet doesnt really offer any help: it just uses it as an opputunity to advertise products which are as good as CCleaner. What i would like to know, is wat program is causing this problem, and how i should fix it.Cos i hardly think turning off all the startup objects while in Safe Mode is a good solution, while it stops the problem from happening, it also stops things from loading that i want to load.Any Help most grateful.ThanksThe Doctor

If i need to show any logs then please tell me how to and i'd be more than happy to help you help me.
On to my problem.

While playing 1701 A.D. (it happens most often with this game, but with other games also) after anywhere from half hour to an hour my game locks up (i can still use the mouse and easily ctrl-alt-kill the program) and this message is displayed:
I have vista on an Hp laptop DV9000 series laptop, my computer is more than strong enough to handle this game. There is also no chance it's over heating. Ive tried right clicking on the exe file and changing compatibility, it didn't make a difference. i downloaded new drivers but that might not have worked properly, i have to install them from hp and it never installs right. The problem existed before i tried to download a new driver and still exist. I also scanned my computer with Trend micro Anti Virus and spyware and have found no possible causes. If there is anything you need me to do please let me know. I appreciate your help.

Hello everyone

I keep getting this error message, when I try to download Adobe Reader 8 from Adobe's website. The message reads as follows : Microsoft Visual C ++ Runtime Library Runtime Error! Program: C:\Program Files\Interent Explorer\iexplore.exe This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I do not know what this is or what is causing it. But right before this message appears, I get a message asking about a proxy? I have no Idea what a proxy is. So I click no for the proxy. and that is when the error message occurs. As far as I know of I do not need a proxy to download any programs. Could this be causing the error message?

Answer:Microsoft Visual C ++ Runtime Library, Runtime Error!

I'm sorry if I'm not allowed to do this but I wanted to say I get this same error whenever I run Registry Booster V2 by Uniblue. It starts the scan then after a certain point I get that error and the program shuts itself down.

Hello, I hope someone can help.

I have been using Cucusoft YouTube Mate for a long time and suddenly today I get this message:

runtime error "this application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way"

I'm not very computer smart and I don't understand why this has suddenly happened and what I can do to fix it.

I would appreciate any help.

Answer:Runtime error this application has requested the Runtime to terminate

Welcome to Seven Forums MissTottenham. Can you post the complete, exact error code? The generic "this application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way" is unfortunately very common. If you can post a screenshot of the error, even better.

This is an error in Internet Explorer. Have you installed any plugins or anything new tith Inetrnet Explorer? Itr seems it may be currupt somehow. You should try searching on your XP cd to find Iexplorer.exe and replacing the defective Iexplorer. It's located in C:\WINDOWS\Program Files\Internet Explorer. This should fix it.

Please contact the application's support team for more information. I'm using 32 bit version of Vista and an external drive.
I have also posted on the software manufacturer sight as well
Any help anyone can give me is appreciated

Answer:Need fix for Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error

Mostly, this kinds of error can be caused by two factors:
1.Runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries are missing.
2.Software problem.
If the issue is caused by #1, you can reinstall the Runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries to resolve the problem.
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86)
If the issue still persists after installing above package, the issue should be a software problem. I suggest you take a clean boot check whether it is a software conflict issue. If not, it is still recommended to address the problem with manufacturer support. Thank you for your understanding.
For your convenience:
Clean Boot
1. Click Start, type "MSCONFIG" (without the quotations) in the Search Bar and Press "Enter" to start the System Configuration Utility.
2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray).
3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK".
4. Restart the computer and test the issue.
Note: Clean Boot is a troubleshooting step. If some programs have been disabled, we can re-enable them later. If you see the System Configuration Utility, check the box of "Don't show this message" and then cl... Read more

I updated my Vista with Win 7 32 bit. I don't see much difference in performance. I installed Adobe 8 yesterday. After doing that, my HP Pavillion Slimline pc hangs when I try to play a factory installed game; ie: solitare. Error message that the game won't respond. I cannot get online either. Please Help!

Answer:Runtime Error Visual C++ Runtime Library

You could try doing a System Restore to a date prior to the Adobe install -- this might be a quick fix if something didn't get installed correctly.

It's likely to be an application error or conflict. Back in Win98 days installed games like Solitaire frequently had conflicts with installed antivirus programs or certain other apps.

Try testing this issue using "clean boot" techniques -- it seems like a good candidate for that if it happens predictably.

You might want to even start in Safe Mode first and see if it happens there -- if not, you've ruled out a problem with system files, including the game itself.
First, restart in Safe Mode if necessary -- (tap the f8 key promptly on startup and choose the Safe Mode option from the boot menu) or Normal mode

Run msconfig and select the "Services" tab. Check "Hide Microsoft Services" and then disable the rest. Also uncheck "load startup items" on the general page.
Now restart and test the issue at hand

If no problems, run msconfig and recheck half the disabled items on the Services tab. Test again. If the problem recurs, UNcheck half the items you just checked to narrow down the culprit.

If the problem didn't occur, check the other half, so all the Services are enabled -- proceed to do this on the startup tab as w... Read more

That should get rid of it. If not, ask for help in that (Spyware)Forum.

Hi there,

Got a problem which has developed over past few days. Tried to use HP image zone which came with HP 2350 series printer/scanner. Hadn't used it in a long time and when I tried to access it received 0xc0000135 error. Got in touch with HP. They advised uninstalling the software, downloading .net framework 1.1 and reinstalling. Even though I have .net 1.1, they said reinstall it. I have uninstalled the printer and tried to download .net framework 1.1 from Microsoft downloads site. When I try to install it I am getting the following message :

Visual C++ runtime library

Runtime error

Program C:\WINDOWS\System32\msiexec.exe

The application has requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way.

I thought it might be a windows installer problem so I downloaded Windows installer 3.1 with no problem.

Done all the usual scans for viruses, malware, spyware and found nothing.

Can anyone help ?

I'm searching my registry to remove some things I don't want, and found about a hundred adware or spyware sounding ".com" websites listed in a "P3P" folder in my "Internet Settings" Key(folder).

Are those spy websites and browser trackers that my computer is listing to Block, or what?
(a Google search said something about P3P being involved with user's trust about personal information. That sounds like a good thing. I have two user accounts on my Windows Vista home basic. I installed Malwarebytes Anti-Malware early this afternoon. Works fine on my account, but the other account after trying to open it I get runtime error 0 and runtime error 440 automation. Any suggestions? Should I uninstall and reinstall or bad idea? I did detect infected files when I ran it earlier.

Answer:runtime error 0/runtime error 440 automation

Just uninstall it and reinstall. If you're worried about infected files, try running another malware program first and see what it says. A Squared Free is another good one or Spybot. Do you have an Antivirus program installed as well? If so, run that and see if you can detect anything.

I had a very bizarre problem today. I downloaded about 50 .mpg files and put them into a folder on my desktop. I opened one of them, and it worked fine, but after that every time I even opened the folder that the files were in, only half of the thumbnails would appear and then it would tell me that I had a Visual C++ Runtime Error, from explorer.exe aborting. At the same time as this, windows would pop up a little message saying that my virtual memory was low. Later, it popped up a message saying that my Media Player needed to be reinstalled and that my Norton Antivirus needed to be reinstalled. Then it disabled my Norton Firewall and my Norton Antivirus. Lastly, I started getting error messages telling me that my soundcard needed to be configured to handle voice files, by enabling hardware acceleration. The only problem with that was that Windows would not let me access the advanced sound settings!

I am running Windows XP (all patches up to date), 256 MB Ram, 75 Gig HD - so I figured the "low" virtual memory had to be an error. I tried tripling the virual memory to 1GB and also tried letting Windows automatically set the virtual memory size, but neither of these fixed the problem. My immediate thought was that it was a virus or trojan, but Norton VirusScan, Swat-It Trojan Scanner, and System Suite VirusScan all failed to detect anything, and all of them have their definitions up to date.

I ran a Google search to see what other things I should try and none of the... Read more

My trial period has run out of a program I use. I changed the date in my BIOS, deleted all it's registry keys, changed the date in windows, completely uninstalled the program. I downloaded it again, but it won't let me use it. How do I get around this? Thanks!!

Answer:Registry, Uninstall,

Just because you uninstall it doesn't mean all of the files were removed. It probably leaves a remnant on the PC that has the previous install info in it.

ok, so I have been doing a cleanout of my laptop recently and removing all the small viruses. Now, there is one I know of called Registry Dr, but it didn't appear on my full pc scan I did. (I use mcaffee) However, in add and remove programs, it is obviously there. So, confused, I tried to uninstall it and got the message: There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. No matter what I do, I can't remove this thing.
Can anyone help me? I don't know what to do. It isn't a threatening virus, just a small one but I don't want it on my laptop.

Can anyone help please. Yesterday I downloaded a programme called Free File Opener and when it was installed I noticed a new icon on my desktop called Registry Helper. A google search indicates this as something sinister and should be removed but it looks very complicated to do so without it causing all sorts of problems.

I have Microsoft Security Essentials installed and am at present running a full scan.

I have also just downloaded Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and am doing a full scan with that which has already detected one connected object which I quarantined.

Can anyone help me to remove Registry Helper from my computer please?

After a snafu caused by PCTools Registry Mechanic (RM) - see Registry Checker nightmare [casued by Registry Mechanic] - I decided to uninstall it. To say their tech support is lame is to put it mildly. Their excuse: "We are very busy after getting an editors choice award." The result: it takes 10 days to get an e-mail reply from their tech "support" (no phone support available). Therefore, I thought I'd pose the question here so I get an answer before the end of the year.

The RM program does not show up on the Windows 98 SE Control Panel Add/Remove list but it does have an uninstall utility in the RM program group.

Given that RM made my computer completely useless I'm concerned about the fact that I cannot remove it using Windows Add/Remove. Is there anything in the registry or anywhere else I should check after running their uninstall program to make sure it's completely out of my life?

I was wondering why these Registry Cleaners didn't get them.

But I do have AIM and I am thinking some entries belong to that so I don't know what to delete.

After uninstalling my Norton Security Suite and going for one of Freeware anti-virus apps (Microsoft Essentials). I decided to browse thru the registry to look for registry keys still listed related to Norton /Symantec ! Under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT I found several registry keys that start out with NAV for example NAVCfgWizDll.NAVCfgWizMgr and NAVCfgWizDll.NAVCfgWizMgr.1 and one more example NAVComUI.AxListViewCtrl , in all there are at least seven or so ,also ebay has alot of entries under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, I have not used ebay nor even been to their web site in a few years ,have zero software installed relating to ebay ? There are numerous entries that look like they are left overs from uninstalled apps etc. Is it better for me to just leave these alone ,Iam aware a mistake with removing registry keys can render your PC a paper weight ! At the same time how are these unnessasary keys effecting the performance of my PC ? Thanks to All that reply ,sorry if Iam being a pain ! Take Care Nick

My computer is Windows XP. I downloaded Registry Mechanic and am trying to uninstall it. Am getting following error code

C:\ProgramFiles\Registrymechanic\unins000.msg is missing. Please correct the problem or obtain a new copy of the program.

I am afraid to install Registry Mechanic a second time, then trying to uninstall both of them. Am afraid I'll end up with TWO messages as above. When you re-install any program, does it overlay the original program and fix whatever was left out? Or do you have the installed corrupted program plus the re-installed program? This is supposedly "free" but when you install it, you find out that it's a "free trial". I need to get it uninstalled before my "free trial" runs out. Thank you so much for your help.

I've tried System Restore and failed to find a date that would cure my problem of uninstalling
programs like HP and PCtools that simply refuse to be gone.
Unwanted programs like this are making my computer-life miserable. I don't know if I have
a virus (I doubt this), or some kind of malware that my Avast anti-virus can't find or stop.
I need to learn a "string" that will permanently uninstall or just obliterate these software nuicenses.
Also, my computer has begun to mis-cue in other strange ways.

I'm reading the tutorial on the Registry, but am timid going on my own into this untested ground.
Would appreciate some expert advice, please.

Answer:Using the registry to uninstall stubborn programs

Malware & viruses are 2 entirely different things & a anti-virus program isn't going to detect or remove malware. You need a program like Malwarebytes ,, install, run, & remove all it finds. As for the registry, I only suggest working in the registry if you are willing to do a system repair , or clean install, if you mess up.If you delete the wrong registry entry by accident or otherwise you can cause Windows to quit working.

Hi, I'm hoping you can help. I'm on a Fujitsu Laptop, Windows XP Pro version 5.1.2600 ...

I now have a message on my screen (after uninstall and restart that I can't close out the window) which reads: (in the topic line in blue) "Uniblue Registry Booster 2" ... (in the message): "Fail to Read from dependent file. This application will close now!"

Here's what I've done so far:

1. Ran uninstall from the Control Panel and it no longer shows in that window (meaning if I go to Control Panel, Add / Delete programs, it isn't there). Subsequently I ....

2. a. Right clicked on "Start" menu.
b. Clicked on Explore all users
c. Clicked on Program files
d. Right-clicked and tried to delete the Uniblue Files that were still there DLL and EXE
e. Error message: "Cannot delete Registry Booster .dll: Access denied."

Please advise next step recommendations.

Answer:Uniblue Registry Booster 2 - Can't Uninstall

If you had it set to run at startup, it won't uninstall. Most programs are like that. There's supposed to be an uninstaller in the Uniblue folder. You might have to install it again to uninstall it correctly. I suggest uninstalling in safemode. When you're finished, download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and check the boxes by anything that refers to Uniblue

this is a horrid problem.
I'm setting up a new-to-me hp system. I have a somewhat oldish compaq 1720 flat panel monitor. it looked fine with the old system I had planned to remove [now reconsidering].
the display looks HORRIBLE with the new system, using two different videos [onboard intel, and/or PCI x16 nvidia geforce 7300gs]. The problem seems to be that I installed the monitor driver that HP provided on their site, and its not good. so I try to uninstall it - it was one of those big packaged things that installs a folder, then a bunch of stuff, and presumably driver/drivers. I found it in the list of programs and did a Windows XP control panel "remove" using the Add/Remove programs function. It removed a bunch of stuff, but left the video drivers. Windows Registry will not let me manually remove the reg entries because the drivers load everytime, no matter what monitor I use [i have a 'lab monitor' that I use to work on things, a generic 15" flat panel]. no matter how I try to work around, using safe mode or any other means, I cannot get the driver excised.

So, I thought: "why not just install another driver". I managed to get windows controls to let me pick "Plug and PLay monitor" but it isn't really using the generic driver. if I look in the device manager, it shows "plug & play" but if i use the video card or embedded display panel that intel and nvidia provide, it shows "compaq 1720" monit... Hi all, I was reading these 2 threads about people who have been having trouble deleting stubborn registry keys:

"Error while deleting key" Registry
Can't delete a registry key and can't change its permissions.

Unfortunately they were locked so I couldn?t post a reply.

I have tried everything previously, including all this permission stuff from over here: How do I remove a "Locked" Registry key? - Mischel Internet Security Forum just wasted a lot of time.

Also tried regdelnull RegDelNull also tried RegASSASSIN: Malwarebytes

Nothing worked.

So guys, after reading from over here Malwarebytes Forum > RegAssassin didn't work ?

Try these steps:

Step 1. Download this: (if a bit wary, follow these instructions to do the same yourself manually: Solving setup errors by using the SubInACL tool to repair file and registry permissions - Aaron Stebner's WebLog - Site Home - MSDN Blogs )

Step 2. Then run the reset.cmd within it, allow it to complete may take around an hour or so.

NB: If you do not have below file of spupdsvc.exe then just do a normal restart and skip to step 5.

Step 3. Reboot your computer into Safe Mode (tap F8 at BIOS screen) then after it's loaded navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spupdsvc.exe

Step 4. Find the file spupdsvc.exe and replace the extension from .exe to .old, after doing the this file should look as: C:\Windows\System32\sp... Read more

How do I reactivate these kinds of features from the control panel?

don't worry, I have administrative rights, Im in the proccess of removing malware and what not, and this must have been turned off at some point.
I have a number of programs already installed and it might be them.
I think I removed a registration cleaner, but I could be wrong I'll try and clean that out for sure.
thats about all know about the situation still trying to resolve other issues but they dont pertain right now, i'll probably post them in another part of the forums.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section! I wasn't too sure were to put it!

So recently I have been installing and uninstalling different screen recording software to record some game play but they didn't work the way I wanted them to so I uninstalled them all almost immediately after installing them. (Also, CNET seems to have tagged along and installed various 'Games' that I did not want to which I uninstalled as well/deleted the left over files)(Also the programs I downloaded are Camstudio, Bandicam, xSplit, Media Player Classic)

Then my computer became notably slow so I searched for a solution. I found out that mass uninstalls could leave behind a bunch of junk in the registry so I did a registry clean with Norton 360 a few times and scanned the system for any virus/Malware. Nothing. Stupid me decided to download a bootleg Registry cleaner which would later be uninstalled, to fix the problem (I think it was Regclean Pro?). Didn't help.

So then I stepped into the realms of Regedit. To clean registry manually. I did this rather successfully as I researched each file I was about to delete thoroughly before doing the deed.

Everything is faster now, but it's still really slow compared to a few days ago. Not all images/videos load completely. Websites have to be constantly refreshed to get to. Some images either do not appear and have a small image character in the middle or they load halfway and the rest is green/heavily pixelated. Like this:
