sbp2port problems giving me fits!

Question: sbp2port problems giving me fits!

OK, my pc is crashing a couple of times a day at this point. It runs fine all day while I'm working. As soon as it sits idle for a little while it's crashing. Not always, but it seems like it's pretty regular as far as being idle. It's completely locked up every morning when I wake up that's for sure. My event log shows tons of these sbp2port entries. Every couple of seconds for as long as it takes to lock up. I've done research on the error and it seems everyone is having trouble figuring out an answer. I've adjusted my paging file settings already. I've checked the file integrity with my xp install disk. Other than that I don't know where to look.

I read somewhere that malware can disguise themselves as this type of file, but I don't know if that's what I'm dealing with. I DO know that I got the virtumonde adware recently and got rid of it successfully..... I think. I don't know if this is still some remnants from that issue.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Everytime I try to open a folder in Windows 2000 I get an error message that says "Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result the page might not display correctly" And of course all that shows is an empty folder. I can get to my files by using search, but obviously that is very limiting. Here's how I got where I am. Visited lot sof less than reputable websites. Lots of Hijackers etc. Loaded Microsoft Beta anti spy software. It didn't work very well. I piddled with the settings and got myself in a lot of trouble. I did everything I could think of including uninstalling the software as well as re loading Windows 2000 over the top of the load I was running. I would gladly reformat my hraddrive and start from scratch if I could get to and save my files, but without being able to see in my folders, it would take a thousand years to find and save all the data I want to save. I've done some cursory research and experimentation with ActiveX, but needless to say, I don't have a clue what I'm doing. Any suggestions? I'm waiting for that whiz to come blazing in and save the day. I'll follow your suggestions and report back. Please help.

ActiveX can be a real pain at times. When IE settings are altered, you can find yourself in a world of problems. The following M$ link may be able to help with that.

Try running an online scan with Trend Micro (A/S) here:
http://www.trendmicro.com/spyware-scan/ It uses ActiveX so you may be unable to run it. The AV online scan is the same.

The following "Freeware" program may be able to readjust your settings so that you are able to backup your files & do a reformat.

Question: Intel giving fits.

Machine: IBM 8090
P4 3.0GHz HT
1GB PC3200
Windows XP Pro SP3
Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop Connection (onboard NIC)
Suddenlink Cable for the internet.

When machine is first booted up, everything goes fine. 5-6 hours later, shows as limited or no connectivity, but still shows as connected.
Have already uninstalled the driver and installed the latest from Intel for this card. Same version as I already had,so no gain there.
Everything worked before last Windows Update, but only one I took was a Security Update.
Driving (no joke intended) me up a wall trying to keep connected.

Go to add remove programs and remove the last security update from Windows and see if it returns to normal, if not post back and we'll try another route.

I have been reading your forums for sometime and have been able to fix minor problems with your help, so I hope you guys can help me now.

I have a Gateway laptop 3018gz that I purchase three years ago. My extended warranty gave out in August and soon after I started having problems. The latest one is a doozy.

On 9/8, it was working fine. No new installs, except an update to Yahoo Messenger. I turned it off that night before going to bed.

On 9/9, went to turn it on, it gave me a BSOD,and instantly restarted. I was able to stop the restart, but never got the BSOD again. I restarted it and it froze and the screen scrambled. Has been doing this ever since. Sometimes the display won't even come up. I can hear the computer going (I hear the fan and the HD) and I hooked it up to another monitor to see if the screen was going, but it didn't work either. I was able to do a recovery on it, but just as it finished the screen froze again and scrambled.

I initially thought this was some sort of virus or trojan horse, but now I am not so sure.

Please help!!!!!!

Can you give us any info from the BSODs? Are you able to start in safe mode to look at the event viewer?

If you can start in safe mode, you may wish to uninstall Yahoo Messenger for the moment. Look at the add - remove programs area and see if you notice anything out of the ordinary.

I am so sick of .NET Framework. It has to be unequivocally, unarguably, and indubitably the worst program ever written by Microsoft.

I have been fighting with this mess for three days and I am no farther than when I started.

I cannot load 3.5 because it says I have not loaded 2.0 sp2.

I try to load 2.0 sp2 and it says I haven't loaded 2.0a.

I search for 2.0a and it does not exist. The Microsoft database does not have it anywhere in their search engine.

2.0 just simply won't load at all. I get error 25007. One help site said to rename a directory and then it would work. It didn't work!

Help sites have been no help at all. The Microsoft help pages are no better.One says that I need to load 2.0 SDKd but when it ends it says it cannot load because 2.0 is missing. The link on the page titled "Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0" takes me to a page that is for .NET Framework 4.0!

4.0 says that it needs 3.5 loaded before it will load but it loads anyway.

3.0 won't load because it says it needs the phantom 2.0a.

3.5 won't load at all.

In desperation, I finally ran the program which removes all copies of .NET Framework except 1.0.

1.1 loaded just fine but 1.1 sp1 fails.

Is there ANY place I can find a step-by-step instruction for loading these programs from a RELIABLE source????

Is this the utility you used for cleanup. It is supposed to able to remove from version 1 to 4.

I would remove .NET using ADD/Remove programs in control panel and then the cleanup tool.

Then install version 2 first skipping version 1.

I don't mean to hog the forum but I have one more issue which has me at wit's end. I recently purchased OneDrive because I need to back up all that music I mention in the thread below among other things. So anyway, when I first started using it, it seemed to function seamlessly... until I noticed that the default setting was to sync to C: - which is inexplicable. I mean, if you are paying for 1TB of cloud storage and your system drive only has 500GB total, well over half of which is full, why would you sync twice that size data to C:? Anyway, no one here is expected answer for Microsoft's quirks but I panicked because I could figure out how to stop the sync and I was fast approaching "critical mass" on C:. So I gave remote access to a tech from Microsoft's OneDrive department and told him to just delete the music cache folder after unticking the sync to C: option (which I had been unable to find). I recently did a destructive recovery system restore.... OK, no problems getting everything back up to working order, re-installed chrome, my VGA driver, etc...

But my damn wireless network adapter just won't stay connected when I try to download something. Literally, anything makes this thing lose connection other than just surfing the web. Loading videos and downloading are the culprits. This is what the networking utility looks like before I d/l. It'll usually go for about 5 seconds, then turns to this. I downloaded the most recent driver from Dynex, still no luck. Unplugging it from its little stand, waiting 3 seconds and then plugging it back in makes it work again, but the second I go to download anything again it switches back to that other disconnected mode. Restarting the comp will also do the same.

I have run the XP cleaning procedure with combofix, spybot, AVG and MG tools as suggeste by this great site, but I still have a nasty Awola bug on my computer. I will try to attach the logs, but AVG stated that it did not create one.

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.3 <-- this has not been used for more than 2 years.
Viewpoint Media Player <-- should have been uninstalled in step 0 of the READ ME

Then install the proper version of Spybot as given in the READ ME. MAKE SURE to uncheck the option for using Teatimer.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

Run AdAware
Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file 01R327 5.07.2004
by clicking Check for updates now, and following the prompts.

Now to set it up for optimum performance...

Make sure the following settings are configured. Remember that ON=GREEN.

From main window click Start | Activate in-depth scan.

Then click Use custom scanning options | Customize and have these options switched ON...

Scan within archives
Scan active processes

Hi,
In trying to re-install W-7 Pro from a Microsoft install disk, I formatted the System partition and need to provide a driver to the install procedure. I've run into a problem: I downloaded the Western Digital driver to a thumb-drive but when I tell the W-7 installation procedure to find the driver on the thumb drive, and "DriverRestore.exe" from Western Digital appears on the file directory, I select the file, and press "Open", the installation procedure responds with "The specified location doesn't contain any information about your hardware"
But I'm sure that file is for the correct Hard Drive.
What to do?

If Windows 8, it is probably a UEFI/GPT system do you need to install Windows 7 differently.

Please help,
Using IE 6 I have been getting 'iexplore.exe error - create log and close down' whenever I go to certain sites, e.g. Windows Update and Travelocity.

I am running Win 2000 Pro on an IBM Think Pad R30. I am using AVG for anti-virus and Zone Alarm for firewall. I have run Spybot and Ad-Aware to remove spyware and rebooted my computer but the probelm persists. I have also run and Hijack This and only saved the log file but am not posting it until asked.

Please help me if you can - this is a nuisance and is really puzzling me.

Hijackthis is not one of the first steps.

First, please follow ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal
If you already have any of the programs linked in the tutorial please double check your version to make sure you have the latest one and that you have any/all updates for the programs.

NOTE: In order to resolve the issues you are having it is very important that you at least try to perform all the steps as outlined. If you have any difficulty please post back letting us know what steps you have completed, what you found while doing the scans if anything and details about any problems you have encountered in completing the steps. The more details you can provide the better.
After doing ALL of the above if you still have a problem:

Started getting Pop-up ads in IE6 going to Google. No problem with other search sites or using other browsers. In general, computer running slow, Hourglass lingers longer than usual on desktop and Windows explorer. On reboot, get "updating configuration files". Ran Ad-Aware, Spybot, CWSredder from safe mode. Ad-aware shows CoolWebSearch. Also add/remove shows "shoppingwizard","offer optimizer", and "CasProg"

Followed the Major Geeks "How To: Spyware, Trojan and Virus Removal" ...
Didn't help.

Will post HijackThis log file if anyone will look at it.

I just rebuilt my computer and am having trouble with my Visoneer scanner. I'm using Paperport 11 with it and have all the drivers installed. The scanner actually works fine, scans the image but when it's done, the image shows up and a:

"PaperPort Scan Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

error message comes up and the program locks up.

Anyone have an idea or something I could try? It worked fine on my computer before.

Every time I go to a site that uses AFP it says that I do not have the latest version and directs me to the Adobe site. I go there and dutifully upgrade that which I have "upgraded" many times before and it still does not work.

The only thing that has been successful is to simply uninstall the Flash Player and then use RegScrub to eliminate all vestiges of it and then reinstall until the next time it fails.

What is happening that makes the program not work even though I already have the latest version and why don't the "upgrades" work causing, me to have to jump through hoops?

The same thing happens at Youtube.com, military.com, etc.

Any suggestions?

I have been trying to clone my windows 10 9879 installation to an empty SSD . I have tried the software that came with my Samsung drive (data migration) sometimes it sees the drives and sometimes it doesn't. If I get it to start the process it checks the system for about 7 seconds and then locks up and I have to hard shut down.
I downloaded and tried Seagate disk wizard but no luck with that either. The Seagate starts the process through a restart then just shuts down. I check the log on the Seagate software and see an error message about cannot determine sync agent services state. Also account not found but I fixed that by running as administrator.
Since I have the installation tweaked and working just the way I want it....as well as data and programs that have on this drive I would rather clone it to the SSD rather than do a clean install.
Any suggestions on cloning software or how to proceed.

Answer:Cloning my 9879 istallation is giving me fits......

First, to clone a disk. The destination disk must be equal or greater in size. I suggest to use : Macrium Reflect Free
to make a Windows backup image to another external drive then restore to your SSD.

NOTE: Make sure the SSD firmware is up to date and also run chkdsk C: /f on the Seagate HD.

This has been happening for sometime now and is finally getting to me. iexplore.exe which is internet explorer I am told. anyway when I am at the desktop and want ot doubleclick the E for internet explorer and get on the net I doubleclick it and the hour glass comes up like it is going to take to my home page but then the hour glass disapprears and it doesn't go anywhere and I am still at the desktop. SO I doubleclick it again and the same thing this usually happens 4 to 5 times and then it finally takes me to the internet. once there it works fine. however everytime I clicked it even tho it didn't take me there it opened up iexplore.exe in the task manager under processes so now there is say 4 to 5 iexplore.exe processes running so when I want to shut down a box always comes up saying ending program you can end it now by pressing the button that says end now but the box comes back up, if you end it as many times as it is in the processes like 4 or 5 times then XP will finally shut down. I tried right clicking the e for internet explorer and then clicking open but it still doesn't until you do it a frw times then its the same when you try to shut down. I tried going to programs and clicking it there but same thing. Went into add and remove programs and then add/remove windows components and reset internet explorer and that didnt help. Ran sfc /scannow but no files missing, I have ran AVG and its clean, Spybot its clean, AVG Antspyware its clean, windows defende... Read more

When I go to yahoo.com, not a single image shows up unless I'm NOT on the start page.
But if I right click and select view image, the image shows up on a separate page. Hit the back button, it's gone again,

I am using FIREFOX.

i'm going to assume you all know I did virus/spyware scans, cleared cookies, reinstalled firefox, the work. And still nothing.
And no, I am not going to reformat for something like this.
I remember I think I know what CAUSED this. My internet went down and this was the first page I tried to load while the net wasn't working. When the net came back, the images still wouldn't show. That was 2 weeks ago.
What could it be? This is killing me.

I know it's malware, and from reading the forums I didn't run Comboware (i think that was the name) because the previous issue involved Symantec AV protection. I use AVG, Ad-Aware and Malwarebytes on this machine so didn't use previous advice. BTW, love you guys and use bleepingcomputer all the time to check startup programs. Thank you!

when I try to install win xp it goes to settup and it checks my sys and at in the middle of the settup prossess it says sbp2port.sys is corrupted. Can someone help?
 

Answer:sbp2port.sys is corrupted.

Can you disable the firewire in your bios until you've completed the install?
It's also possibly bad reads (copies) from the CD to the HD - if firewire is not a boot device or similar in the bios you could try ignoring it. If you get further errors with different files - try installing from the HD or clipping the drive mode back for the install

Surely is says more than just sbp2port.sys. Is it missing, corrupt, wrong version, ???

Are you trying to install with devices connected to the PC? That file is part of the 1394 (Firewire) driver.

If you have an external Firewire drive, or a camera, try unplugging them during the install.

so i killed a virus just a few days ago. didnt lose anything thankfully. now, i cant get online. i tried a windows repair install. and i get this awesome message.... FILE SBP2PORT.SYS IS CORRUPTED. im running xp pro. [from a legit disc!] and i have no clue what that message means. other than swearing at bill gates, is there something i might do to fix this? please help.

Hi all,

I recently installed a plug and play Ethernet adapter into my pc which is Win7. I am trying to LAN with a windows XP pc (which previously worked with my onboard adapter).

When I view the status of the Local area connection, it shows that there are packets being sent and received to and from both pcs. But I CANNOT see the win XP pc in my network as I am not on the existing network with it?

Hi, i have some problem with my IE 7 recently.
When i surf some sites, mostly hotmail. I always get the message "object moved here". So when i click on a page, it will direct me to a page that writes "object moved here" and then i'll need to click on the word "here" before i can access my page.

Recently, i cant seem to see all the images and yes, i can't see all the smilies and icons on the post thread now, which is wierd and i get this message when i'm surfing the net at times:

You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address

which i find it wierd because my messenger is still able to connect and my brother's computer which uses the same connection is also able to connect but my internet just doesn't seem to be able display the webpage.

Hi bearbear,

please try running IE7 without addons to see if the same happens:

- Click Start -> Run -> type:
iexplore -extoff
- Click OK
- Test with a few sites to see it the same problem occurs...please bear in mind that when you run IE with no addons, some website will cease to work as normal if they depend on certain addons. Ignore any new problems, just try to concentrate on the original issue and post back your findings please.

If that doesn't give any results, it may be an idea to temporary disable your firewall for a little bit and run IE in its normal mode. Some firewalls include features which affect how webpages load and are displayed so it could be a configuration problem. Remember to re-enable your firewall when you have finished testing.

Have you previously upgraded from IE6 to version 7? If yes, did these problem used to happen previously?

I recently noticed that the system was trying to do 7 updates every day at closedown, and found that update was giving a return code of 800736b3.

I have run SURT several times, and it doesn't seem to give any results (or should I be looking somewhere else?).

I ran sfc /scannow and extracted the results and they are in sfcdetails.txt (attached). SFC said there were some files it couldn't fix, even though sfcdetails.txt says it has fixed all of them.

CBS.zip is much too big to upload using the paperclip - is there another way?

I tried restoring to an earlier restore point, and unfortunately all the attempted updates have flushed my list of restore points - and the oldest few all give me a return code of x00000022.

Not sure if this is one problem or two...! I am reluctant to do a System Recovery as it sounds pretty drastic - help would be much appreciated!

PS Is any more info required?

...which are caused by an MS update which they messed up the file-coding on and may get around to fixing sometime.
It's not critical, but you could get rid of it by uninstalling KB3022345 and/or KB3068708 and hiding the latter when it reappers in your offered updates list.

Please post the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log and C:\Windows\Logs\CheckSUR.Persist.log files.

Windows XP-SP3I have a gmail account. I installed Picasa from google website. Version is 3.9.136.20.Problems:1. Inadequate options for scanning pictures. There are only two options for Picasa to scan for pictures - My Documents or the entire drive. Is there no way to select a specific partition where the pictures of interest are?2. Every attempt at uploading 4 pictures has failed so far, like this:I select the pictures, they end up at the bottom, I click Share, hourglass appears for a very long time, there is no activity in the router, eventually a message window comes up saying that the upload failed, shows a blue link for error, which says 'post URL not found'. I am beyond the veil of anger with this. I believe something is wrong with my DirectX 11 on Windows 8.1, and I don't know how to fix it. I would go to play certain games, and it would pop up an error message saying "Cannot Set Display Mode" or something similar to that. I get the feeling it's DirectX, as I had recently updated it, but did nothing to interfere. I have spent the last week (literally) trying to fix this, and everything has failed. I understand that DirectX 11 comes with Windows 8 and everything, but when Windows doesn't even realize that it's malfunctioning (DXDiag did not work, nor did the thousands of Runtime Installers I tried), something is definitely wrong. Recheck/reinstall or update drivers, a lot of interaction between drivers and DirectX goes in there. Some older games do not like or recognize new DirectX. Try to run them in compatibility mode.

ok well i was working on a guys computer and it was a dell, and i was seeing it i could upgrade it and i took all the cables out of the mobo to see if mine would fit, well it wouldnt and when i put all the cables back in (they are all in the right spots, and in securly) the computer would not turn on, But the power light on the front of the case turns orange and nothing else turns on, the Usb devices do not get power but, the 2 network cards in the expansion slots do. Now i checked the conection from the mobo to the case power button and LED, on a dell this is one big 6 pin connector. it is in securely.

BTW it is a dell 4100 built about 4 years ago. If anyone has an idea of what could be i could use all the help i can get.

Dell is horrible. They usually use proprietary products, which means you'll have to order part upgrades through them or order Dell certified parts.

My partner and I use the same webmail service. I can log on to my account but he can't log on to his. We've phoned BT Yahoo (in the UK) who provide the webmail service. They asked permission to log into his account and said they could log in. We still can't log in. They don't know why. Can you help?

The PC has Windows XP Home Edition with SP3 and according to Windows Update everything's up to date.

We access the web using Firefox using the current version.

Before trying last log in cleaned the PC using both the Disk Cleanup utility and CCleaner. I can still log in but my partner can't. Really confused by this.

Ever since I installed Windows 7 and IE 9 my computer has been giving me fits. Pages and games load extremely slow and I have to refresh constantly. Windows live mail is a nightmare as it takes over 2 minutes to load an email just so that I can delete it. Can I uninstall IE 9 without causing any problems on my computer? And will it revert back to IE 8? I'm thinking that IE 9 is what is giving me such problems and I have heard that it causes a lot of problems with other programs and games. I scan and defrag all the time so I know that isn't my problem with too much junk on the computer. Any help would be appreciated.

I am set up with imap account with aol I write a messaage press send............This then goes into my outbox and stays there..............I open the outbox up and it says at the top this message has not been sent ............Why oh why wont it send my messages.

I occasionally get these blue lines going across the screen. The lines are all over the monitor, but there`s an especially irritating one that`s following my mouse pointer as I speak. It resembles the tail of Halley`s comet, and is a disturbance when trying to WORK on the computer.
Can anyone tell me what exactly is the problem? Is it my video card, is it the monitor itself, or is it, gulp, the motherboard?

Could be the monitor or the video card.

Only realy way to be sure is to try a different monitor, or try your monitor on another computer.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but, about 2 months ago I received an update for Java. I downloaded it as usual but it seems it never quite downloaded properly. Since then I am constantly getting a message to download and that my Java is unsecured. I don't know if I have a virus (my bit defender and mawarebytes don't show anything) or whats going on. My computer is running very slowly and always asks to close the window. I believe it could be a memory issue but not sure.

Unless you regularly go to a website that uses Java, I suggest you follow the directions at this link and uninstall it. There have been security issues recently with Java and it is rarely used by most websites. There may be a few games that use it but most users don't need Java and it seems to be a nuisance.

Hello! It's been a while since I have been on here (which is a good thing, right?). But I recently upgraded my operating system to Windows 10. Since then, I have been having some issues. I will not get into all of them for now, when I had no issues with Photobucket before, I am now.

When I go there, I do not remember how to delete an individual picture or all of them or how to create an album. Photobucket is important to me because many websites (maybe even this one) may require a URL instead of browsing and uploading a JPEG to this site this may be very important to show you what I see on my screen.

Hey guys,

The computer I have right now is giving me huge problems. Pretty much to the point where I can't even really use it anymore and I'm resorting to using my laptop 24/7.

What happens is that I turn on my computer... everything seems to load just fine. After I log in onto Win XP, Depending on I guess "How it feels" from like either 5 min to either 2 hours of use it will all of a sudden just randomly crash and reset by itself... or I've noticed it freeze a few times. Then after the reset it sometimes goes past loading the bios and either resets again or goes to the screen where it says to either: Safe mode/Last config/load normally. And when I click either... it just resets again! Then sometimes after resetting a couple times. I just manually turn it off and turn it back on, but this time as I hit the power button. I hear all the fans turn on but nothing appears on the monitor and the monitor light next to the monitor power just blinks as if nothing was going to appear. I'm not sure if that means anything.

So I leave it alone for a couple hours and turn it back on and it seems to work fine again but does the same thing. Although this time when I log on XP it shows a data error report wanting to be sent to windows. And I viewed the technical error it reported and it said it logged these two files in my C: directory:

I have this really strange problem with my PC that keeps happening several times per week.

There are a handfull of my favorite sites, (GOOGLE, CBS SPORTSLINE, WEB-ATTACK and even TSG FORUMS) that when I try and go to them.... the status bar will flash a few times and then I get the page with cannot find server where they say there may be problems with the site.

When this happens.... I cannot access these sites even manually by typing in the addy..... It's ONLY these four sites that do this. This happens several times per week.

Usually, I can fix this by going into CP/add-remove programs/ and choosing the option to REPAIR IE 6. Sometimes I have to repeat the process a few times, but it will fix the prob.

This is so damn annoying. These 4 sites just happen to be the ones I visit the most, so it's a real pain to me.

I regularly clean out my temporary internet files, history etc.... and have all the spyware controllers like AD-AWARE, SPYBOT, etc... etc... and use them on a regular basis.

I have even had a laptop running along with my desktop and all 4 sites load just fine..... so there is no trouble with the sites.

Any educated guesses as to what may be happening here? Why only these 4 sites, and why can I fix it most of the time by repairing IE6? And... most importantly, how can I fix it PERMANENTLY? because it's driving me nuts to have to fix it all the time.

I have been getting the BSOD, constantly sometimes once a week, or times once or twice a day, I have updated my Nvida gefore grafics cards recently as well, because of another error code from the BSOD saying there was a problem there. But now i have the erro code at file

i had a game installed on my computer and it wasnt working, the game was oblivion and i was getting an error message something like this:the application has failed to launch dxd39.dll is missing i ran dxdiag and there didnt seem to be any problems recently i formatted my drive and i installed a different game: call of juarez whixh i then got the aformentioned message with juarez even though i worked fine beforenow oblivion works fine but this other game doesnt i have no idea what is wrong coz i have a decent video card and my system is fine with any other gaems any advice would be great thanks

Since reformatting my hard drive, I have been unable to get Diskeeper Lite to run once I restart my PC. I have tried removing remnants of it's previous installation but to no avail. (In case you're interested, this is the error message I get when I try to open it:
"Unable to connect to the Diskeeper service in the selected machine. Connecting to the local Diskeeper service.")

No one appears to know how to resolve this problem, so I've resigned myself to the fact that I'm going to have to use another defrag program. Does anyone have a suggestions for a free defrag program I can use please?

My other comp was working fine, but there was a spark in the power supply but it was still working for awhile, except I'd have to fight with it to get it to turn on. So I bought a new power supply, much stronger than what it was before, changed all the memory as well.
NOW... it turns on, but the HDD doesn't spin or anything, and when it finishes loading past the bios and all that, all it shows is a black screen that says "boot error, please insert system disk and retry" and when I install my winXP cd, it loads enuff to get to the screen where i can choose to repair or install anew, and when i choose either it says that windows cannot detect a HDD.

What could the problem be ?

your hard drive is probably ruined. You could make a reformat disk and see if you can reformat the hard drive to get it to work. But it probably was damaged by the spark. The reformat disk can be found somewhere on the internet.

I have just installed a D-Link usb2 hub (DUB-H4). I cannot get a scanner, Modem or other types os devive to work. I THINK this is a driver problem. Does anyone have a soltion?

Sorry, I have an XP pro laptop with SP2 and Norton 2006. The modem seems dead ('modem not ready'), the scanner hangs in mid operation, although the printer seems to work OK. Its almost as if the driver can't cope with 4 into one (even though I only run one-at-a-time). I have noted that there is a facility to update the drivers in the OS. I tried thine to one of them but to no avail.

Lately my wireless card has been giving me fits. Random disconnects, difficult to re-connect etc. Today it just gave up. I had a second card (exactly the same) that I swapped out, but the problems persist. ASUS support was non-existent. I managed to get as far as "limited connectivity" with the current set up (my desktop computer.

Ok so when I connect to my wifi it looks like this  after some time my Internet stops working and when i see the connections all other wifi networks are gone and the one I'm connected shows Limited  When I disconnect, this happens  After this, I have to restart to connect to the network.Its not Internet problem because its never interrupts in my PC and mobile so its fault in some driver I guess. I have updated my WiLAN driver but the problem still exists. I have even reinstalled the windows but the problem is still there. Please someone help me its creating a lot of problems for me. Anyhow, I clicked a link on a friends AIM away message and ever since I've been having problems. When I restart my computer, the command prompt window opens with C:\WINDOWS\System32\cmd.exe across the top. The tower either starts to beep after every 3 seconds a semi long continous beep and then it just repeats itself. And it goes indefinetly. Then I figured how to apprently reset it by removing a small pin like cover and putting it back again and it works BUT only temporarily as it presents itself to be rather unstable. Sometimes it beeps like it passed but doesn't do anything else. Sometimes it statys stuck at the Console selection menu. Sometimes it stays stuck at the Configuration menu (Last Known working configuration menu thingy) Sometimes after multiple resets it gets into win xp but then suddenly just turns off and auto resets itself. If it'll run in W2K it should run in XP.

Have you tried using the Program Compatibility Wizard and running it in W2K mode?

If that doesn't work, then it may be a problem with the install of the game. Have you checked the properties of the shortcut to make sure that it actually points at the game's executable file?

Recently i bought a new Pentium Core 2 Duo 1.86 Ghz processor with 2 gb ram with 160 gb 7000 rpm SeaGate hard-disk and original Intel Motherboard.

The problem is that when i installed coreldraw 11 and while saving a file it showed 'File Copy Error. TEMP drive or output drive may be full' C Drive has a 40 gb partition wtih progs using 7 gb of space. Also when writing a cd with roxio 6.0 the machine hangs. What could possibly be the error.

PS : Virus Scan yielded no viruses.

Loaded dragon version 11 on my PC and when I go to run it I get this error message....."Cannot find multimedia device. Check to see if your computer has a sound card or if the mutimedia wave-in component is missing from the sound card." I have a sound card. Have my speakers plugged into it and can hear sound from my speakers. Any ideas?

just put a new 7200rpm 120g hard drive on my existing fully functional machine (933 processor, 512mb ram) hard drive was bare, just started machine with windows xp pro and started moving along, was so easy felt like it was working alone.. no bootup disks or dos screens...... so after asking if i wanted to format and install i clicked yes and it was about 15% through the format when i left the machine........when i came back from going out i have a blue screen message stating windows has a problem (possible virus/connection error) with a

at the end of the message..... i can get into bios and the drive is recognized.... and i can hit f8 and get to the boot screan asking which operating system i want to boot and if i hit f8 again i get a list of choices under the advanced options menu, but that is it.....if i let the computer boot in any setting of just a natural boot i will get that same message as above......... what can i do??

I am having trouble with my DVD RAM Drive . On inserting a recorded DVD into the drive the drive fails to read the contents on the disc and just displays a blank window. I thought something was wrong with the drive so i changed it but the problem still persisted. To top it all on inserting the same DVD in a different computer the contents are read and displayed perfectly. I am having trouble figuring out what could be wrong. Please Help.

I am using a Computer with a Pentium 4 1.5Ghz Processor and the system has Windows XP Professional Edition Service Pack 2 installed on it.

PS: Virus scans seem to yield no viruses

First off im not the most computer savy guy in the world so any help is appreciated.

My problems is that when i type a website in the address bar of IE (www.google.com for example) i get an error message saying:

Cannot find 'www.google.com'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct.

This happens with any site i type in.

so basically im stuck doing a search for a site on msn and clicking the link, or copy/paste the address from Mozilla.

Its not a big deal because i use Mozilla, but i would really like to get this fixed.

Any help is appreciated.

Help!!

I noticed a few days ago that my computer, which is 2.6 ghz with 1 GB ram and runs windows XP, was running incredibly slowly. I ran all the virus scans I could get my hands on. Some worm or other was killed, and one of the scans detected a virus called "java-bytever.a". So, I did a search for the files infected with that virus and manually deleted them (since none of my other AV programs were detecting them). But my computer is still very slow, and what's worse, now when my Norton Antivirus runs its bi-daily scan, instead of scanning the usual 100,000 or so files, it's now scanning 2.5 million files!! And the number of files is getting higher.

According to NAV, I have a folder called "recycler" that I can't find on my computer, even with a search. Also, most of these extra hundreds of thousands of files are in:

c:\program files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\bin

I can't access this folder even through command.com, because I keep getting a "cyclic redundancy check" error message. I can't uninstall Java because when I go into add/remove programs and select Java, it says it's "gathering info" for about 30 minutes, when it times out! And when I try to simply delete the whole folder, I get a prompt telling me that my c: drive isn't formatted and would I like to format it now!!??

I'm at my wit's end! I've tried Norton, Panda, Trent, and Bitprotector, and none of them are detecting any problems.... Read more

I have a Acorp Motherboard ZX86 with BIOS ver 2C. It has a 10-pin USB HUB with two ports. The USB connector strip that i bought 3 years back has 10-pins but only 9 wires, 5+4. I use windows 98 SE with an USB printer from HP, which is working fine on the port connected to 4-pin side. The 5-pin side doesn't show any device connected in windows after connecting it. I mean it's not detected. Since I didn't use any device other than my printer, it was working for me uptil now. Now I have bought a Sandisk Cruzer Mini Disk and have installed the drivers on win98 SE. I have also updated my UHCD.sys. But my PC is not detecting the device even on the port which I use to connect my USB printer, which is working fine on the same port. What may be the problem. I installed Win2K Professional, but it also has the same problem.

Please help.

Im having some trouble getting rid of 2 shortcuts that were left behind after uninstalling 2 programs.

If i try to right click on them to delete or just plain high light them and hit delete key nothing will happen and it sorta feels like the PC is going to crash.

To help not to crash i simply hit ctrl alt del and it stops.

I cant find any folders or files from where the shortcuts could come from so im stumped.

Can anyone help me get rid of them?

Or where to look?

here are a few options

1. try rebooting and then delete them
2. hold the shift button, right click the icon and choose delete (doesnt send it to the recycly bin
3. Right click it to goto it's Properties. Then point it to an existing application (use the Find Target button). Once pointed there, you can delete the shortcut.

Hey I just installed a new 512 mb stick of Kingston DDR400 184 pin RAM onto my computer, I already had a 512 one. Ever since I installed the RAM my computer has had some random reboots. I tried installing registry mechanic and system mechanic 5 and whenever I do a scan halfway through the scan the computer reboots itself. I am using windows xp professional. I scanned for viruses adware and spyware and I came up with nothing, which makes me think it is a registry problem.

Hi, I have a Desktop running XP, a desktop running 98se, and a laptop running 98se. I am having problems with all but I'll start with the XP. It had a virus I couldn't get rid of, so I decided to re-format. It has a 40 GB drive with the main system files, and a 120 GB drive for everything else. I formatted both of them using the winXP CD. I then installed a fresh install of winXP on the 40 GB drive. Everything went smoothly, and I have a nice clean install. Now, about an hour later, I can see by the lights on my router that there is very heavy Internet traffic even when the computer is idle at the desktop. I turned off windows auto-update so that's not it. I haven't installed anything yet. the only thing I've done since the install is change some windows settings, check my hotmail, and come to this forum. The traffic is bad enough to take about 10 seconds to load this forum on my high-speed connection Very noticeable. What could be causing this? Also, when I check the properties of the internet connection, I see services for programs like Azureus (a bit torrent program) I had installed before the format. Could it be getting this settings from my router? Is a re-format from the winXP CD enough to remove any virus? Is there a better way to wipe my hard-drives? Thanks guys, I hope you can help me out here. Should I post the problems with the other computers in the 98se board? The problems are all kind of inter-related...

Answer:Clean XP install giving me many problems.

on doing a fresh install off xp the internet connection is better left out as it only takes seconds for your machine to get infected.
you should install sp1 before connecting to internet then go straight to windows update for critical update.
I always install sp2 before connection to internet.
have done this on about 50 computers so far and yet to have a problem with sp2.(must be lucky)

This actually prevents my WIndows from starting and my AMBIOS wont detect the Primary IDE master{which would be my HD} and if it does start itll crash and show a blue screen error.WTF is going on? some replies would be sufficient.

It seems to me that we determined just a couple of days ago that the CMOS battery on your main board is bad and thats why your BIOS doesn't see your HD. When you enter the BIOS and set the defaults your HD becomes visible until you shut off your machine, then you have to do that again.

In looking at your past posts it would seem that you have had some major problems with viruses and spyware. Thats probably why your computer wont run right. Based on your history I can only suggest that you replace you CMOS battery and then format and reinstall windows.

I Have a HP Compaq d220 MT that is giving me some problems.I just installed Windows xp version 2002 w/sp3.  When I start up I get windows ok, along with the three users that I originally set up in the old version.When I start user one it comes up ok showing the normal desktop.  Then a splash panel appears; AirGFCG.exe Entry point not found.Very shortly after that it attempts to set up my photo gallery. During that process it stops to ask for the photo gallery on a CD.  I do not have such a cd, so the process stops dead and I can not continue "the installation until I find it".Any help you can provide would be most appreciated.Thanks Dan Page

I have a HP Pavvilion Entertainment PC. 3 pretty new, about 2 months old. I uninstalled my lightscribe LabelPrint software because it was giving me problems and reinstalled it except now my Power2go isn't letting me copy discs. It says, No burner is currently available or you don't have rights to access the burner. Does anyone know why it's doing this? And how I can fix it?


The DVD is also not showing up to play it.

First, we'll need to know what version of Windows you're using; I'm assuming Vista, but it could be different. Also, we'll need a more accurate model number of the PC. Pavilions usually have numbers like z650a or x5310n. It should be on the front of the PC down near the bottom of the case. If it's not on the front of the case anywhere then you'll have to look for the model number on the back of the PC. Once you get this info, post it and we'll go from there.
In the meantime, try a system restore and 'roll back' to a date when everything was working OK....

UPDATE: I went poking around the HP web site, and I found this article about burning/DVD/CD problems. I think it was written primarily for laptop PCs but it may be helpful...

I recently downlaoded Kazaa Lite K++ 2.4.1 . I had previously been using Kazaa Lite 1.7 (or thereabouts). I have a DSL modem.

With v 1.7, I could download files fairly quickly at resonable speeds (ie. at least 2.5 kb/s). With version 2.4.1 all of my downloads are at speeds WAY below 1 kb/s and take FOREVER to get. I'm downloading some of the same files as before, so there really shouldn't be a difference. Where could the problem be?

PS - I don't really understand the whole K++ thing and the priority levels. Could this be the problem?

Hi there,Im sure you know that the speed of download depends on the bandwidth you get from the member you are downloading from, make sure you get the highest bandwidth from your searched list,might also be your ISP having problems of course,failing that,why not go back to your previous version if it was doing ok?

I have Windows Vista + all updates.

IE: giving problems.

It feezes! I can open other tabs, but that particular tab will stay frozen and be unresponsive.
The only way to shut down is forcefully.

I couldn't find any updates for it on Windows.com.

For some reason i can hear my music playing from i tunes i can speak into my mic and people type in that they can hear me. But for some reason i can't hear them I dont know what seems to be the problem i don't think it's the headset but i dont know what else the problem can be besides the sound card which i changed like 3-4 times.

If your headset as a single jack plug it is probably incompatible with the socket on the sound card which needs a connection for the mike and another connection for the speaker/earpiece.

I have been with the same ISP for years. Originally it was Freeserve, they became Wannado, and now they are Orange. That means that I have retained the same email addy for over 20years - which is great because I've got records of business and friends going back a long way.
Orange have now demanded that I change to their landline, and if I don't they are going to cut off my internet! (I'm not sure that this is legal and Trading Standards are looking into it). However, it doesn't really matter because Orange just can't stop their servers from falling over (several times a day sometimes), so I will dump them and switch to BT. Their router is naff as well because it often 'goes to sleep' and cuts off the ADSL line.
But this leaves me with a problem. I have hundreds and hundreds of emails on Outlook in my Freeserve username. If I switch to BT I will lose it - and all access to that account.
Is there any way I can log into that account again so that I can see the emails after I make the switch? Alternatively is there any way I can save the mails (not one at a time) so that I can refer back to them later? Or possibly migrate all of the mails to my new user account in Outlook.
I can't be the only person with this problem.

If the emails have been downloaded to your pc then it doesn't matter about a change as you will still have all of your old emails. However after a period of time you will not be able to access new emails or send with your old email address.

I have just installed a new hard drive and it is detected on the BIOS but...

When I go to select it in My Computer, it either stops the PC responding or asks me to format it. I go to format the drive and it tells me it could not complete. I've just run chkdisk and...

File record segmants: 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 128, 256, 6984-6988, 9092, 9208-9217, 9224, 9232, 9233, 9344, 9364, 9480-9486 (and a hell of a lot more) are unreadable

I am running XP home. It seems to take a very long time to startup as well, a VERY long time in comparison to before.

Does anyone know what the problem could be or a way to fix it?

I cannot Accept or send files through any type of instant messenger , and i cannot host any game servers. I am pretty sure its port related , but I don't know how to how to change my router's settings and open the ports. I got the modem through bellsouth and there isn't any manuals on the modem including in their little installation kit.

I don't know if you can see that or not. It might not show it since its a graphics card problem. But there should be grey horizontal lines running through it all over the place.

I've narrowed the possible problems down to like the graphics card itself being messed up/broken and/or the drivers aren't properly installing.

I also tried to see if the monitor itself was messed up but it isn't because I tried it out on my laptop and the monitor looked perfect.

Yes I have tried various versions of the recommended and not recommended drivers directly from the Nvidia website but it always gives me the same error.

Hi, I've gotten vundo on my pc on 07/04/08 (july 04). I downloaded a torrent from sumotorrent on utorrent, it was a movie, 4.75 mb. It was supposed to be a movie file but when I saw it it was a folder, it was a zip file, it said the video file was pass protected and I had to open folder to use the video. As I opened the folder adware popped up on my screen, also my computer told me that 'automatic updates' were turned off. I did a scan with mccaffe and adaware and they both said they found and removed it. After that the automatic updates were still turned off, when i tried to turn it back on, it would not. The pc has slow processing and sluggish system performance, the system restore seems to have no restore points. i downloaded a host of different programs to remove vundo, super anti spyware, microsoft malware removal tool, cyber defense, symantec fix vundo, process explorer. Microsoft malware removal tool couldnt open, same thing with process explorer. Super anti spyware found a bunch of them, claimed to have deleted them, when I rebooted after they deleted I could not start windows and had to revert back to last good configuration. Does anybody know how to remove vundo? Is there any good programs I can buy?

Hello all,

I used to use incredimail until I got a new computer with Vista on it. I installed incredimail, and used it (kind of) until I found out it wasn't compatible with Vista, and then uninstalled. I switched over to Windows Mail and have a question.

First off, I HATE IT. I know im a nerd, but I love all the little icons and themes that incredimail has...and windows mail appears to have none of. Well...to the question...

I set up my account, and email works just fine, but there is a problem with attachments. I can receive (for instance) a pdf and save it to my computer. If I open it from its saved location, it opens up perfectly. If I click on the attachment in my email and try to open it that way, I get an error that states something like "there is no file extension set for that file. Please go into control panel and set one."

I know there is a file extension set, because I went into control panel and checked, but it has the acrobat reader icon for the file, and I can open it pefectly if it is saved to my desktop.

Does anyone have an idea why I can open the pdf files perfectly as long as it is saved to the computer, but if I try to open it from Windows Mail, it gives me that file extension error?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

ok, I stated in the drivers forum that I was having problems with the displaydrivers, but noone answered. so I updated the drivers for my radeon 8500, and the error message when I try to play is that the display driver is not compatibal with it and thats after the game crashes and restarts my computer. I tried multiplayer but it say an error occured while trying to play in the mp. but that did not restart my computer.
so what is the problem and what should I do about it and how do I fix it.

Not sure. Display driver crashing may be because IT stumbled over something else. Best advise is to update both the video and sound drivers, and make sure you've got the latest patches for the games.

Do all the DX Diagnostics tests run OK?

Is anything running in the background while you're playing? Running programs can trip things up too. Try shutting down everything possible and then play. What sound card are you using? Some games would crash with my old Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card if I enabled EAX, and the crashes were always either frozen or black screens, that looked like vid card problems.

Nose around the game makers website, FAQs, and forum and look for anybody having problems with the same hardware you're running.

Don't know what else to suggest; I ran Jedi Academy on ATI 9700 & Audigy 2 with no problems, in Windows XP. You didn't mention what operating system either.

Okay I bought me A Gateway FX P7805u laptop from best buy a couple days ago. Almost every game I have played has crashed back to the desktop or has giving me an error saying "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding, but has succesfully recovered." or has freezed in some cases having me to restart my computer. I believe everything is up to date on my computer I do not know why this is happening.

Okay, so, I went out and bought the Windows 8 physical DVD, 'cause I'm a sucker for discs and pretty artwork. I wiped my drive and installed Windows 8 Pro from scratch.
Now it's telling me it can't activate.
My new copy. That I just bought. That I installed.
When I try to activate, it tells me I haven't input a key (even though I did during installation). When I put in my key again, it tells me that the code is for an upgrade only; not a clean install. I searched all over the packaging and cards that came with my disc, but it does not say that ANYWHERE. Even if it did, I own legitimate copies of Windows XP, Vista AND 7. Does this mean I have to re-wipe my drive, install one of the older OSes, and then upgrade to 8 from that? Worse, does this mean I have to follow those steps every time I want to reformat? That is absolute and utter bullpoop.
Maybe this is just a bug in the system because it's a brand new launch, but it sure puts a damper on things when I was all stoked to be trying out the latest and greatest OS from Microsoft.
Secondly (and this may be related to the failed activation), I can't change my theme. I can't change my wallpaper, "Aero" color, or screensaver. As soon as I click one, it reverts to the default.
So, can anyone help me? I'm exhausted and frustrated and disappointed, and these are not the feelings I wanted to experience after plunking down my hard-earned cash for an operating system.

I purchased a dvd through Amazon and completed my install this afternoon. There was definitely little on the packaging that denoted this as an upgrade version. I knew this was the case b/c online descriptions are much more clear about it. The OEM version is different and more expensive.
Your only option is indeed to reinstall one of the older OS's. You are correct that the packaging isn't very clear that it's for upgrade only, but I can't speak to whether or not this is common for Microsoft to do.
You're just going to have to reinstall Windows7 and go at it like that. There were some updating requirements that I remember reading (can't find it now...), but you might have to install SP1 for W7 to continue. The hassle with be worth it, promise!

has given me a problematic internet connection. While using the "command
prompt" from "Run" option of the start menu, it says that the IP address is
invalid.

As far as my knowledge goes, a computer's IP Address can be found out

I have a HP Presario C700 laptop. Os Win7 home 32bit. When I 1st turn the laptop on cold everything is fine. After a while the front left side of the laptop gets warm. It isn't hot enough to burn my hand. I can rest my hand there for a long time but it does get a bit uncomfortable after a while when I am playing a game.
After a while when the laptop is warmed up. Prog's that need a a lot of cpu usage and memory start slowing down and stop working. Then the prog needs to be closed and reopened. Often FireFox will stop working right in the middle of doing something. Thank the makers of FireFox for putting in a sub routine in that lets FireFox go right back to were ever I was (even if I am in the middle typing a post and I don't lose what I already typed) after restarting the prog. Also I understand that some laptops just do that, getting warm in one spot, because of the design and layout. Is it something I just have live with until I can get a better laptop? or is it something that needs fixing and can be fixed.

OOO a ps. Sometimes, not very often, like with the current proj I am working on with a pare of SDR (Software Defined Radio) RTL USB radio dongles. I am often running 4 or 5 different prog's at the same time to decode the digital signals picked up by the receivers. Windows sometimes, not often, will get so over worked that it locks up the laptop and the only thing left to do is reboot the laptop.

You can try using a laptop cooler.

And to make sure of thermal throttling:
- Change to High Performance power plan - so CPU stay at max frequency
- Download and run HWInfo in sensor-only mode.
- Make sure minimum column for CPU frequency is 100% (multiplier at max), reset the readings (lower right) and keep it running in the background
- Do your thing until it gets slow, then check the frequency (multiplier) minimum to see if CPU has throttled.

Also try to vacuum the fan openings as compressed air may cause more issues with laptops since blown away dust don't have anywhere to escape.

Hello all,

Recently I purchased the supplies for a new computer from Newegg and as the package arrived I eagerly put everything together. To my dismay, it took nearly 6 hours to install windows XP. Yes, six hours. I ran diagnostics and came to the conclusion that it was either my motherboard or my CPU, so I sent both back to be exchanged for a new product, sure enough, when they got here I put them in and they worked like a charm. XP installed in just over 30 minutes and things were looking up, this is when I hit the problem. Upon booting the computer, I make it to the windows splash screen (scrolling blue bars) and it get 3/4 of the way across (the blue bars do) before coming to a stop. Once they stop the computer simply hangs and I cannot ctrl+alt+del or press escape (as some have suggested). I've gone into safe mode and installed the drivers for my motherboard and for my graphics card, but to no avail. Does anyone have any idea as to what this could be? The only thing that I can think of would be my video card drivers, but that's just speculation. Thank you so much for your time and help. Also, here are my system specs:

450W power supply
ASUS A7N8X-E motherboard
AMD Athlon XP 2700+
single stick of 512 MB kingston RAM
MSI GeForce 6800GT 256MB 8X video card
80 gig Western Digital HD

Ive had this camera for like 2-3 years now. Only on this computer (XP), when I install it, a little icon by the time pops up and asks me if I want to install the program using the Add/Remove Feature. I always click no, since I just installed it using the CD.

Then I would go into my computer, and there would be 2 Kodak icons. I dont know why... but I would click one and it wouldnt work. Then I would click the other and it would always work. Well today I need to get some pictures uploaded asap and I open up My Computer and there was only 1 Kodak icon. I clicked it and of course, it said the camera wasn't plugged in-- when it was.

I cant reinstall it since I dont have the disc. What are my other choices? Is there something else I could download that would read the USB port and let me open up my pictures?

I got myself a new Western Digital 120 gig hard drive. Plugged it in, computer recognized it as the new master. Went about installing WIN XP, when we got to the Windows is starting screen, now the new hard drive cannot be detected. What is going on? Anybody help me?
