Blue Screen: STOP 0xC000021A {Fatal System Error}

Question: Blue Screen: STOP 0xC000021A {Fatal System Error}

Hi everyone,

My friend just began getting a fatal system error when he tries turning his computer on. It loads up all and displays the background, and then crashes. The error is a blue screen:

STOP: C0000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process System process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.

I've been unable to find anything to correct this problem. It can boot up into safe mode but not safe mode with networking capabilities (it then does the same thing). Anyone know of any solutions? Thanks!

Preferred Solution: Blue Screen: STOP 0xC000021A {Fatal System Error}

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi guys,
A few days ago I started my computer and it blue-screened with the message:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try chaging video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Technical Information:

*** STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0xF85F9AD9, 0xF898B7A4, 0xF898B4A4)

I had installed XP over the existing 2000 Professional last February, and it has worked well until this popped up.

I tried using the XP disk to repair the system, and the computer seems to boot normally until it started to display desktop shortcuts. At this point the computer blue screens with the message:

Safe Mode has failed me. Cannot load last. Used a XP OS CD with SP2 on it for expanding winlogon. Computer will not allow me to reinstall over the existing XP. I have been using a different XP OS CD that has SP2 with the XP. Have not tried the appropriate XP OS CD yet but will next. Any thoughts or steps to rescue this computer. Have not backed up in several weeks but nothing too critical on this unit but itunes. We have several PC's and this is the most used. I had thought I had eliminated the AVSuite Spyware and Redirect issue using TSSDKiller but it came back with a vengence. In safe mode I was searching the registry for AVSuite references and deleting them. Reboot. BSD ;( Ouch.
Help me obie wan - you are my only hope.

Hi Bones, and welcome to TSF.

Not sure what you are trying to acheive but you should be running on SP3 and if you are and you're using a disc which has been slipstreamed with SP2 it won't work. Make another disc using this http://www.howtohaven.com/system/sli...e-pack-3.shtml

I think there is a very good chance that your machine is infected. If the slipstream doesn't work......

The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000034 (0x00000000 0x0000000)

I have had trouble finding this specific error. I have already checked RAM with two recommended memory checking programs. Please help.

When I log off, restart or shut down I get BSOD error.

Stop: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The windows logon process terminated unexpectantly with a status of 0x0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000) The system has been shut down.

When I turn my machine back on I get the MS Error reporting thing and when I click for details I get

Error Signature
szAppName: winlogon.exe
szAppVer: 0.0.0.0
szModName: cwplc001.dll
szModver: 2.1.0.35
offset: 00028628

I am running xp home with sp3 on a Dell Dimension 3000.

I have recently installed new Kingston RAM (PC3200, 184 pin, 2 x 1Gb sticks). When the error started I put my old RAM back in and the problem persists.

I have updated drivers, reinstalled sp3, virus scanned with bitdefender.

I do not have the goback program installed.

While I have searched this error I have not found anything that looks like the proper fix.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Bug Check 0xC000021A: STATUS_SYSTEM_PROCESS_TERMINATED

Resolving the Problem

Running the kernel debugger is not useful in this situation because the actual error occurred in a user-mode process.

Resolving an error in a user-mode device driver, system service, or third-party application: Because bug check 0xC000021A occurs in a user-mode process, the most common culprits are third-party applications. If the error occurred after the installation of a new or updated device driver, system service, or third-party application, the new software should be removed or disabled. Contact the manufacturer of the software about a possible update.

If the error occurs during system startup, restart your computer, and press F8 at the character-based menu that displays the operating system choices. At the resulting Windows Advanced Options menu, choose the Last Known Good Configuration option. This option is most effective when only one driver or service is added at a time. If this does not resolve the error, try manually removing the offending software. If the system partition is formatted with file allocation table (FAT), use an MS-DOS startup disk to gain access to the computer's hard disk. If the system partition is formatted with NTFS file system, you might be able to use Safe Mode to rename or delete the faulty software. If the faulty software is used as part of the system startup process in Safe Mode, you need to start the computer using the Recovery Console in order to acc... Read more

Dell Dimension E510, Windows XP Media Center, SP3 and most mid-November Windows Updates, I think. I use AVG Free 2011 but update has been erroring out General Error for some time so the databases are badly out of date. My bad - one of many poor decisions in the past 2 days and I really (really) do know better.On Jan 2 I noticed that some Google searches were getting redirected to random pages and suspected malware. I updated and ran CCleaner (it had been awhile, removed thousands of files/ freed 185 MB of disk space), Windows Defender (no errors), SpyBot S&D (one error corrected, don't recall specifics), MalwareBytes (a few errors corrected, don't rememeber), then tried to run Ad-Aware - AVG interfered with it. I deactivated AVG and was able to install Ad-Aware from an old installer - it downloaded the latest version and requested a reboot. Upon reboot, I had to deactivate AVG for the maximum 15 minutes again, then the new version of Ad-Aware finished its install, updated dbs and started scanning. It seems that in the middle of the Ad-Aware scan, AVG came back to life and flashed a warning screen indicating approx 8 infections...including Trojan horse Patched_c.KAI in winlogon.exe and Virus Win32/Patched.GB in explorer.exe - it did indicate that these are system files and should not be moved. I was multitasking and clicked one of the options in the AVG window (I think I asked it to disinfect, bad, bad idea). That hung the AVG window and caused the Ad-Aware... Read more

had one last week that was a little different and it just magically disappeared (I'm building a new computer as soon as this semester ends if this computer will last that long).

I have MOST everything backed up on an external hard drive, but when i had tried to copy the my documents folder, it kept giving me an error, and I don't remember if I copied any of it over or not. The programs are all backed up, but AFAIK any documents I had are still on there, and I'd REALLY REALLY like to make a clean sweep through the computer and get as much copied over as possible.

It's windows xp home with SP3. It started after running an AVG scan overnight and the computer went on standby during the scan. My mom tried to wake the computer up and it froze and when i rebooted it (hit the power button once and it gave me the option to shut down, restart or go to standby like it would if i had gone to the start menu and done it) it gave me a BSOD (process1_initialization_failed), and i tried again and it gave me a different BSOD (the one im posting about).

I have a recovery console.ISO on a CD that I found off of these forums and it works, but I DO NOT have the windows XP CD. It's a Dell dimension 4600 (from late 2003 hehe).

I'd rather not have to wipe the HD or buy a new one because I don't want to spend money on this computer...If I can fix it with recovery console or by getting a windows cd from someone (if i can find one) that would be ideal.

please tell... Read more

Hey all, long-time lurker here. I wanted to start off by saying thank you, as I've found the info posted here (regarding other misc. problems I've had) to be very helpful

I'll start off with my specs:
Laptop: MSI GX640
CPU: Intel Core i5-430M
Memory: DDR3 2 GBx2
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 5850 w/ 1 GB DDR5 VRAM

I don't know if any other information is necessary for this particular problem, but if there's any relevant info that I missed please do let me know.

Anyway, right now I have a problem with the above mentioned error. It first started while playing XCOM, and it pretty much happened every XCOM session thereafter, so I tried looking for some ways to DIY troubleshoot it. To that end, I've tried sfc, disk check, virus and malware scans, and also updating my drivers. All the scans didn't find anything unusual, and currently I'm pretty sure my drivers are up-to-date.

I want to add a couple of things here, just in the interest of providing as much info as possible, though I'm not sure if it will be pertinent. Anyway, for updating my drivers I used a third-party program called SlimDrivers, and I think it worked properly. I realize driver update software can be sketchy, but it had good reviews on cnet, which I suppose was as reputable a review source as I could find. But moving on, I goofed when updating my video card drivers, as I downloaded a version that, it turned out, was incompatible for my laptop. This became apparent when the top of my screen started flic... Read more

Hello Everyone,

I have a Dell XPS Studio 1645 i7 Q 720 @ 1.60GHz, 1597 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
4 GB DDR3 RAM
BIOS: Dell Inc. A08, 3/12/2010
Windows 7 64-bit 6.1.7600 Build 7600
GPU: ATI HD 4670 1GB RAM

I am using a 90W adapter fyi and games seem to run fine once windows boots.

So my problem is,

I get a Blue screen a few times when I reboot my system. But then it just goes away on restart. Sometimes I have to restart multiple times for it to windows to start up.

The blue screen occurs at the Windows is loading page right after the windows come together. I have no idea why this error occurs, I got so frustrated with it that I called Dell and the technician came and replaced my motherboard and hardrive. But this error still occurs. ANY help would be greatly appreciated..I have absolutely no idea what drivers/software would cause this to occur. I am attaching the log files for the error and the dump file too (The dump file is zipped since i can't attach .dmp) .

As I said before any kind of help resolving this would be much appreciated. If someone could pinpoint which application/hardware/software in specific is causing this I will be SO GRATEFUL!

PS:- I don't have any Antivirus either (since I read about AVG making this happen)

Thanks,

Okay. I got nailed w/ a virus yesterday. Please read my previous posts if necessary. I got home from work today excited to fix my problem (b/c I had received advice from the Security forum) HOWEVER, i now get a blue screen in EVERY MODE.

By reading tons and tons of posts, it seems to me that I or one of the programs I ran, mistakenly erased some vital Hotfix's for Win 2000.

This is the message I get constantly (and again, I can't even get a DOS prompt in Safe Mode):

Apparently I got a trojan. The last thing I saw on my computer before it locked up was a fake virus protection software telling me I had a billion viruses. I attempted to reboot in safe mode and run a virus scan. No dice...

After that I put in my computers repair software that came with the computer and did a Check Disk and Diagnostic. No dice...

Can anyone PLEASE help me get past the blue screen saying fatal system error c000021a (0xc0000034).

I am on a DELL Inspiron 6400, Windows XP.

After doing some research I read something about Dr. Watson debugging software but I cant figure out how to run it in DOS let alone understand what it is for...

If there is no hope for my computer, can I attach an external harddrive and copy files to it via DOS?

Thanks alot.

I'm having a problem with my sister in law's computer. Originally, she had that annoying XP 2008 virus/spyware, which I think I managed to get rid of with Malwarebytes' Anti Malware and System Mechanic 7. Now I have a new problem. After receiving a recent download from microsoft, upon restarting, I get the blue screen of death with this message;

STOP: C000021a (Fatal System Error) The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000)

I can't get anywhere into Windows, I've done F2, F8, F12, everything I could think of without risking more damage since I'm not trained for this. I've booted from the system mechanic CD with the Hard Drive recovery, and while it said it found and fixed a problem, it didn't fix this one. I have no windows CD. The computer is a Dell, and it's running Windows XP service pack 2 with Explorer 6. Heeeeeelp! Other than the F keys, I can't get anywhere with this computer.

Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron 530 with Windows XP.

I was doing a google search for (don't laugh) the cost of a veggie tray at costco. Found an inncent looking link, clicked on it, and was sent to a weird page. Exited the page and right away my AVG (free version) started warning me that a threat was detected. I told AVG to remove the threat, and AVG said something about "white listed - cannot remove file, attached to system file". I panicked and shut down the computer. AVG is the only virus software I use, and I occasionally do a scan/sweep with ad-aware (free version).

Now, when I try to reboot, I get the windows screen, then the blue screen with "Stop: C000021a fatal system error blablabla the system has shut down".

I have the original CD/software for the operating system. I also have an external hard drive that backs up all my computer files via mimeo (computer tech set it up for us, thank goodness!!). The last back up was done before the bug hit. I turned the power off on the external drive for now, as I don't know if the bug will hit it as well.

What steps do I take next? I think I need to re-load windows from the disks, but that sounds scary, I'm afraid I'll ruin something. And will that remove the bug that caused all this? will I need to search for malware before I can trust my computer (or is this a virus)? Then how do I re-load all my files from the external drive to the computer (copy and paste??).

Greetings, amandajsmom.

Can you boot into Safe Mode? If you can, then do so and run a full AVG scan while disconnected from the internet. Reboot once the scan and any quarantine/cleaning process finishes, and see if your symptoms change.

I am unaware as to what is causing this problem, but i have many concerns over how serious a problem it is. Everytime i log on to my computer the Winlogon.exe file shuts down. But my computer still continues to function normally (besides the internet running way slower then normal, and also causing the other computers on my network to do the same). However, the system stability at that point is obviously comprimised. It isnt until i pursue a more memory/graphic intensive task that my computer will have a fatal error and need to be restarted. Examples include playing World of warcraft, or having more then one browser window open at a time while surfing the internet. But it mostly occurs less then 15 minutes into a session of World of warcraft. The strange thing is, sometimes the shut down wont occur right away, but will instead seemingly happen at random times. Also as a result of whats going on to the main computer, the other computers on that network seem to be more instable then before, but not to the extent that the main computer is. Here is the error message:

STOP C000021a (fatal system error)
The windows logon process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of Oxc0000005 (ox00000000 ox00000000)

Guesses at to why this is occuring have ranged from trojans, to worms to power outages that have been plaguing our area. We did numerous virus scans, and did find a few things of interest which have all been cleaned from the system, bu... Read more

Hi guys. I need some immediate help. I'm certain I've downloaded a virus and now I can't reboot the system.

I'm running an XP Home, Dell laptop - which isn't mine (thus the urgency).

I've been given the error-

I've tried booting in safe mode, and I've tried going with the last known config that worked option and neither worked.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Hello all,

I was asked to disinfect a friend's computer that was absolutely infested with virii, malware, spyware, and the like. I began by installing and running AVGh antivirus. After running a full scan, I was asked how I wanted to proceed regarding a particular infected file (unfortunately I did not write down the filename) and I choose either delete/qyuantine. Immediately
following, I was greeted with a blue screen that read 0xC000021A error. Since then, I have tried every possible way to boot: Safe Mode, Last previous configuration, etc. I also tried booting from the Dell utility partitiion and all those tests Passed (even the OS/Boot up test- go figure). Because all of these boots were unsuccessful, I decided the only way to fix this would be a fresh format. Well I can't even do that! I choose boot from CD and still get the blue screen with the same error! How in the world can I fix this if I can't even format and reinstall the OS? Any ideas?

I have googled endlessly and failed to come up with a solution. I read Microsoft's documentation but there is no way for me to follow the steps since I cannot access any kind of prompt.

Thanks so much in advance.

When started the crash to occur?
In my experience, people weren't able to boot into the system to run the tool with this crash.
Are you running in safe mode to run the dm log collector?

Hello all, Im new here an need some help. I am trying to fix a friends Dell Dimension 8300. It was filled with tons of viruses. I got most of them, but after a restart I keep getting the BSOD error 0xC000021A followed by Cx0000034. I can't boot into any of the options when I press F8. I still get the message regardless. His CD drive doesn't work, so I cant boot from a disk. I removed the HD and put it in an enclosure and hooked it up to my computer to try and diagnose the problem from my computer. Is there anyone that can help me Can I replace files on his HD from my Windows XP Home Edition SP2 that will make it work again?? (He is running XP home SP2). I have not added any hardware or Ram. Just Windows live onecare to remove the viruses. Thanks in advance for whoever replies!

And yes, I have search all the knowledge bases and this forum and nothing has worked so far.

Answer:BSOD 0xC000021A Fatal Error

For anyone who has or will have the same problem. Here is what I did.

I opened up the tower for the Dell 8300 and took out the HD and the CD drive. (the CD drive didnt have the right drivers and can't find them, but it ran).

I plugged the IDE cable (master) into the CD drive and power cable.

Then I plugged the Slave end of the IDE cable into the HD.

Under settings (F2) I changed all the settings to "Auto" under the drive configuration settings. And changed the boot order to boot from the CD drive.

Then I inserted the Win XP CD into the drive, and rebooted.

Then I pressed "R" after the Win XP CD loaded all the files. The "R" is the repair Win XP installation. Everything loaded onto the HD without any data loss! The computer finally boots up now. Now I just have to put it back together LOL.

It has Broadcom PXE something, and every time I try to boot from CD ROM for my windows XP install it goes there and says "Media test failure" "Check cable" Then it goes to the windows loading screen, and it blue screens and says "Fatal System error" Blah blah, windows is shutting down.

I'm trying to reinstall windows, but it isn't working, NOTHING will load when I put it in my CD drive.

Broadcom PXE implies it's been trying to boot from a network so you need to go into BIOS to change the boot order to CD drive before you can get your reinstallation going. However, if it got all the way to trying the network boot option, chances are nothing else worked along the way. Restart and tap Delete or Function 2 for BIOS.

Hello all,

This is my first post, I am not very computer literate and I am having a very large problem at the moment with my Windows XP Media Edition, with Microsoft Service Pack 3 installed.
This morning I started my computer and it worked fine initially loading up my desktop background and desktop icons, then the task bar at the bottom turned grey.
Without clicking anything my screen then turned blue and I got the error message that follows:

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The WIndows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down

I rebooted about 4 times getting the same error, but on the 5th time it logged on as normal. I was then able to use the computer for about an hour I then turned it off. After rebooting it a few minutes ago the same error has appeared again and have rebooting about 10 times it doesnt seem to be going this time.

On occasions I get a different error which is:

"STOP: c00000135 {Unable To Locate Component}
This application has failed to start because qt-mt.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

Beginning dump of physical memory
Physical memory dump complete
Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance.

Has anyone got any idea what this is and how to solve it? And if the two errors are related?
Thank you

Haychee

We went from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, months ago (when we kept getting the pop-up to get the "free" upgrade").Yesterday, while Windows was updating, it would not return to the home screen, but instead, kept cycling on and off with the same window coming on: Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We'll restart for you. Stop Code: FAT FILE SYSTEM...Can't get past it,  other than to the Bios. Made a Windows 10 USB Flash Drive to try to repair.  changed the boot order to accomodate, but once it starts to install, the cycle immediately starts again.Can't find ANYTHING on the internet to help.  The drive seems to work, since I had to take it out and use an SATA/IDE to USB cord to pull data off it, so I was able to see the drive on another computer.Need help as to what to do and how to get past it.  Whatever you suggest, I can bet I tried it.  Just want to format the drive using the Windows 10 USB and get rid of everything to start anew, but it won't get past that window. This is my daughter's computer and she really needs it.  If anyone can help with this, please help. Thanks!

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

BAD_POOL_HEADER

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Technical information:

*** STOP 0x00000019 (0x00000003, 0x8A948290, 0x88948290, 0x8A948290)

This error is in the right category because it is dealing with the same problem.

I just bought a new computer from www.Arbico.co.uk, its a gaming computer which I also use for School coursework and it has LOTS of important information I've not saved onto my memory stick, and I need it back up and running. For the past week my computers Task bar, Start Panel wont show, just my background, no icons, I tried to fix it by uninstalling windows internet explorer 7, but it didn't help, I uninstalled the application and now my computer is doing this:-

Restarts EVERYTIME just before it shows the logon screen and brings up a blue screen with this message, STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error} The windows logon process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005. I CANNOT get onto safe mode and cannot get onto last known good configuration either, and the caps are for those who always suggest start, run, because I explained I cannot even log on.

Can anyone please help me? Thanks

System manufacturer and model?

The error reported...arises from many different causes. You can verify that by using Google for the designated error.

You will note that several persons suggest using a registry cleaner to "fix" the problems noted. I suggest that this is unwise advice and it's impossible since you cannot boot into Windows.

Greetings,
I found this thread regarding the error I'm getting on a client's computer:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/f10/...up-516556.html

I did not do all the things he did, but I've managed to clean the hard drive enough to where I briefly reach the desktop (in regular and safe modes) before receiving the exact same error. So, I cannot run any of the preliminary analysis programs on that hard drive unless they work with the infected drive as an external drive--I have an IDE SATA-to-USB adapter (and have backed up my data).

The problem arose after scanning with the free AVG program. I've rescanned the drive with Kaspersky several times and Kas thinks it's clean. I'm not convinced.

You need to run a windows repair. Back up all important data first. Put the windows cd in and boot off it. When it asks if you want to go into the repair console, don't and skip it. When you get to the partition part, select to repair windows.

Here is a nice reference: How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install
Running a Windows Repair will not erase your files, but it is wise to backup in case of a failure.

Recently I copied & resized some partitions from 1 drive to another - one contains Win98SE, another XP Pro, the others files etc. However when I tried to boot I got the dreaded blue screen with a system error: 0x0000007B.
Then tried to do a repair installation, but halfway thru it rebooted then went to blue screen with error "Stop: c000021A (fatal system error)". Now get the same error each time I boot and attempts to retry the repair installation end with same error.
I ran TestDisk and it said one of the partitions had a "Bad Sector Count" and 2 had a "Bad Relative Sector" message. All the files appear to be intact when I view them.

Hi Dave and Welcome to TSF!

I'm not seeing any similar problems elsewhere, this may be unique to you :(

The suggestion in your thread elsewhere looks incorrect:

The system has shutdown.

Note The status will always be 0xC000003a if you are experiencing the issue described here.

You are describing a oxc0000007b, so the issue isn't as described by MS.

Standard troubleshooting for 0xC000021A:
Quote:

Cause

This error occurs when a user-mode subsystem, such as WinLogon or the Client Server Run-Time Subsystem (CSRSS), has been fatally compromised and security can no longer be guaranteed. In response, the operating system switches to kernel mode. Microsoft Windows cannot run without WinLogon or CSRSS. Therefore, this is one of the few cases where the failure of a user-mode service can shut down the system.

Mismatched system files can also cause this error. This can occur if you have restored your hard disk from a backup. Some backup programs might skip restoring system files that they determine are in use.
Resolving the Problem

Running the kernel debugger is not useful in this situation because the actual error occurred in a user-mode process.

Okay, I went to class and came back and my computer was on this scree. So I restarted my pc, and it gives me the option to start windows normally, or run the repair. When I do both of them, they bring me to this screen. I put in my Windows 7 installation DVD and it loads and gives me this screen.

I'm quite irritated right now, what can I do. I read some guides and they all want me to change some .dlls and and run in safe mode and reinstall windows, but i can't even do those things. THis is the week before my senior paper is due, I sort of need my computer TONIGHT

Hi. I'm new here and I need help!About a month or two ago I got the "Blue Screen of Death" that said the following:Stop: C000021a {Fatal System Error}The Windows Logon Process System process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0XC0000005 (0X00000000 0X00000000).The system has been shut down. I don't know how this happened but I have a hunch:I accidentally installed that trojan Personal Antivirus onto my SONY VAIO laptop after tryng to exit out of the dialog box that advertised it. Everysince then, it had been lagging, saying that there were several viruses in it, and even not letting me enter the Internet. Then one day I turned it on and it rebooted by itself and when it did, that blue screen came out. Eversince then, I was not able to go into my desktop and only the loading screen.I learned that by pressing F8 and choosing Safe Mode worked for many people but it didn't for me. It would change to Safe Mode but I could not get any further than the loading screen when the screen woud pop up. Desparate, I tried everysingle option on the Windows Adavnced Options Menu, but all of them had the same results.Can someone PLEASE help me?Oh, and one more question: if there IS a way to fix my computer, is it possible to fix it without losing any files and programs in the computer?Please reply ASAP! I need this repaired by Sunday as this is the only time I have other PCs to use in case I need to download/burn anything.

Hey guys I have a problem. I'm running Windows XP SP2 on a laptop that has not been able to boot the last few days. The error message I get when starting is:

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000034 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.

There is no reference to what caused this, and I am unable to boot in safe mode. any help would be most appreciatve.

Answer:Stop: C000021a {fatal System Error}

Have you tried "Last Known Good Configuration" from the Safe Mode menu?If that doesn't work insert your Windows XP CD into the CD drive, and then restart the computer. Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD drive if you are prompted. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console. When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.Type: chkdsk /rIt's important to have a space before the "/".To exit the Recovery Console and restart the computer, type exit at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.

Check this link for info about the Recovery Console and using 'fixboot' and/or 'fixmbr' for boot record or boot sector repair. A chkdsk may be helpful also; here's a link:

Had you just made any changes such as installing a program/Updates or updating drivers?

Try a System Restore from Safe Mode.
Press F8 to boot to the Safe Mode Options screen
Select
'Safe mode with command prompt'

At the command prompt type
C:\Windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

Hopefully System Restore will open so pick a date a few days ago

Hello, today I've been messing with some software tools like defrag and registry cleaner then i restarted my pc and now im getting blue screen with this error:
STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The initial session process or system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000000 (0x00010828).
The system has been shut down.

I've already tried system recovery but it fails everytime aswell as the repair tool. Also I downloaded some important Windows 7 update today so I did a bit of googling and I found out that this type of error happened to some people after updating their windows. So I tried to delete the latest windows update using command prompt in system recovery optains but that says that im not authorized to do that even tho I logged in as administrator.
I've got no idea what else to do can anyone help me with this?

Answer:STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}

I doubt it will be the Windows Update that caused the problem, or a lot of people would have been reporting the same problem. It is more likely to be damage caused by the registry cleaner, registry cleaners can often cause more problems than they fix and are not required to keep your system running smoothly, don't use them. That being said I have not known of a registry cleaner to cause such a drastic problem.

Have you tried booting to the Advanced Options using the F8 key and selecting Last Known Good Configuration?

Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 that will not get past the XP Flash Screen. The OS came pre-installed and so i have no recovery disk to repair the computer. Upon entering setup and the load up screen there is no option for a recovery of any kind, just the usual safe mode options (which don't work).

I'd appreciate any help with this as i've reached a dead end and don't really know where to go from here.

one day i turned on my computer at first it booted up normally just the way it always did exept when my desktop wallpaper comes up everything stops the computer isnt frozen or anything just nothing happens. so i decided to try task manager and on the current tasks there was nothing so i went to the process tab and all the processes were there but they all showed 0% on the disk usage column, the only one that had a number was system idle process and it was at 99%. i knew i couldent fix the problem withought getting into my computer and even a boot in safe mode did the same thing. so in task manager i selected new task and went to a few different things. i found that using new task to select my computer from deskto brought up my icons and everything went well but is still had to fix the problem. after doing every sing virus scan adware scan spyware scan and whatnot nothing worked at all so i said screw it and i went to pc help and tools in my programs list in the start menu and i selected system recovery because my computer did not come with recovery disks or diskettes. it said that i had to restart my computer so i obliged and when my computer restarted it... Hey I have a Dell Dimension 4700 and I was recently going through my add/remove programs list trying to clean up and get rid of some programs I didn't use anymore(like google earth, partypoker, etc) and I came across Yahoo Download Manager and figured I didn't need it and right when I clicked remove my computer shuts down, I am not sure how anything in this would have that kind of effect on my computer from removing, or if it was just a coincidence.

I go to reboot it and get the blue screen error message - Stop C000021a {Fatal System Error} The Windows logon Process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000135(0x00000000 0x00000000) The System has been shut down. I cant boot in safe mode or anything.

A guy on Dell's message board told me to run diagnostics and this is what i get -
Drive 0: ST380013AS- pass
Drive 1: No Device
Drive 2: HL-DT:STDVD GDR816343- diagnostics not supported
Drive 3: SAMSUNGCD-R/RVSW2525- diagnostics not supported.

I have no idea what this means and cant get a respond in their boards. A friend did a little research and says it might have something to do with .NET framework, and this might make sense because I downloaded MLB.TV Mosaic about 30 minutes before this happened and during the download they made me install something with .NET on it that I can specifically remember. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. thanks.

I have around a couple of hours ago rang Microsoft for support but the support person said that there is NO specific solution for my following query. What happens is that sometimes (NOT all the time) when I go to switch off my computer at START > TURN OFF COMPUTER after pressing either the TURN OFF or RESTART button I (sometimes) get the following error message: STOP: c000021a {fatal system error}The Windows subsystem system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x5f100f5a 0x0052fb08) The system has been shut down Has anyone had or heard of this message before?It has only recently started happening and is NOT serious as I just reboot and don't see the error message crop up for (say) a day or two! I am curious as to WHY it is happening though.I have run a scandisk and at the end there is a message saying that the system is clean. Also I have a MEMTEST program on floppy and after leaving this run for over an hour NO errors are found so it can't be a memory problem can it? Thanks.

First post..pardon any errors.. I have a Dell Dimension2350..6 yrs old.this week the monitor showed "shutting down for system error.. I've
tried googling this report and find that it is not altogether uncommon. The suggestion given was to find Command prompt and follow the printed info that I had.. however.. it is not possible to get a prompt.. the system shows the usual initial DELL logo... and goes to the window showing Windows XP logo.. and then... blank screen..... having tried cds for re installing windows again, the "whrring sound" that indicates the CD drive is working, is heard.. a minimum brightness for a micro second shows on the monitor and then the system shuts down again . Any suggestions?Something that I can do? without having to hire someone?

All of the above occurs without anything at all connecting to the PC..except mouse and keyboard.

I searched for a card that might be a video card..or a graphics card.. nothing inside the slots but the telephone dial up card.

All four "trouble lights" are green, as indicated "good" by the manual.

Answer:Stop: Fatal system error..shut down

This sounds like the hard drive going bad.
If you can, find out who made it, go to their website and download the diagnostic tools. Make a CD with them on it and then run from boot - or fit the drive to another PC and run the tools on that.

Hi,

The other day we found a computer giving this error and continuosly resetting:
STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
 The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000135 (0x00000000 0x0000000)
The system has been shutdown

We reviewed kb156669 and it says some causes:
•Mismatched system files have been installed:  "No as far as we know"
•A Service Pack installation has failed:  "No as far as we know"
•A backup program that is used to restore a hard disk did not correctly restore files that may have been in use:  "No as far as we know"
•An incompatible third-party program has been installed: "No as far as we know"

We resolved the problem copying the folder system32 from a new computer to the old but the question is if someone know how to troubleshoot this and to know exactly the cause.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}

The previous person that used it might have added dual boot with linux and edited the .Ini boot file.

You understand that the system32 folder contains a folder called drivers, which contains the drivers related to the software installed on the operating system?

So basically copying the system32 folder from another pc, and expecting all software to run fine is not going to work out well for you.
For example, here i have 2 pcs, pc A and pc B.
.
Pc A has avast and malwarebytes software installed.  Pc B has Microsoft security essentials and SuperAntiSpyware installed.  How could i expect the system32 folder from pc A, to have the correct drivers for pc B?

First thing I understand is that you are using a OCZ boot SSD?Then if so go here and check for a firmware upgrade. OCZ SSD Firmware Updates and Tools With OCZ it is very important to be running he latest firmware. Second thing is that although I have cloned my Boot Partitions successfully they fulfilled two conditions.1. They were the only partition on the drive.2. I was using Intel SSDs. I used the Both The Intel and the Easeus todo for that purpose.3. OCZ recommends a clean Install.I suggest going here to their forums and selecting the one for your model drive and reading.From My reading The latest firmware and a clean install is helpful.I do have one OCZ 90Gb I use for playing since it was cheap. I did update it's firmware to 2.22. I did a clean Install and it seems stable, Knock wood. My Intels have many more hours, they cost a lot more too howeverIf your old Boot Drive was reliable then It has to be either the firmware or the way you tinkered with the drive after the clone process. I remember that Easeus had a box to check when cloning a SSD. Try re-cloning the drive and check the SSD box and see how that works for a while. Reliable?I've cloned I cloned four computers and did not have to do anything to get them to boot. I'm not sure what happened except that the fact that you had to fix it to get it to boot implies a problem with the cloning.Good LuckRoger

I have been having problems recently with my laptop... The hard drive tends to stop functioning and then crash. When I tried to reboot, it said the operating system was not found. So I decided to give the hard drive and the laptop a break to cool down, and it worked great for a while, then crashed again. And then it asked me to start the windows repair, and when I did it got a stop error, asking bs to disable shadowing on the BIOS. But I dont know how to disable it so I end up restating after waiting a bit. I tried using safe mode but the boot up kept getting stuck at crcdisc.sys, and then later when I tried to use system repair I got this error:

The initial session process of system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000000 (0xc0000034 0x0010037c)
The system has been shut down.

And I sit here with this stop error as I type this post, I'm using my iPod so I'm sorry if I fail to type and I hope someone out there can help me.

I normally wouldn't ask for help, but can't take anymore, I give up.

I'll turn off the laptop and let it rest in case the hard drive is overheating.

Answer:STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error} - help?

I have a desktop PC and just ran into the same problem,

I recently posted on here and got fast, great help. Now my friends computer is having trouble and I thought I would turn here again. Here is the issue.

When trying to boot I get the following blue screen:

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Verification of of a knownDLL failed, system process terminated unexpectedly, with a status of 0x0000020 (0x90ac4390 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.
Here is what I know about the laptop: It is a HP Pavillion dv6000, Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T5250 1500MHz, 2 gigs of memory, running Windows Vista. When I go into the bios I don't see the info on the hard drive.

Thank You in advanced for any help you can give!

Hi

What is the last hardware change you made to the system ? . Did you recently installed any software or Windows update ?. There is a known Windows update which cause this issue -http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2839011

Try restoring the system to a date prior to this is happened.  http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html

Hi, I have a Dell Latitude E6500- Windows 7 Laptop - clean install fully updated. . After about an hour the machine will blue screen and need a manual reatart. Otherwise the machine performs fine. I ran Spinright, memtest86 with no errors. I removed the back plate and blew out the fan area. Any further troubleshooting tips would be appreciated. Also could not find any dump file on the system. I have a laptop Sony VAIO model VGNFS920, with 516Mb RAm, 1.73GHz intel processor.
it doesn't come with recovery cds, u make it from the partition it comes with or recover C: drive directly from there
I;ve been having this problem for a few days now and frankly i don't know what to do anymore.
at first i would get a message at start up saying
Isass.exe appliaction error. the system failed to initialize properly.click ok to terminate the program.
and then if would shut down or restart on its own. after a few times i would get the following message
STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logopn Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000402(0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has been shut down.
eventually i would be able to log in and the first message i would get is found new hardware ACPI uniprocessor Pc, and then rebooth so the system change can take effect. exept that rebooth might get me in the same problem.
i've tried doing a system recovery and for a while it ws fine and it did it again.
sometimes it would freeze at the vaio screen.
i just performed another c: drive recovery and at the first start up I got that blue screen again! that thing is driving me nuts!!!!
if anyone has a solution it will be greatly appreciated. thanks

Answer:Stop: C000021a {fatal System Error}

No solution...but I think it would be wise...to make a recovery CD, per instructions from the system manufacturer.You may not always be able to access your hard drive or any partitions on it, the CD provides one more possibility of correcting whatever might be wrong (at that time).Complex error message, multiple possibilities for what might be the trigger. While benching with 3DMARK03 my monitor twice went into stanby mode.....Pressing the keyboard brought it back into view and 3DMARK was still running but then I got the blue screen with....stop:c000021a (fatal) system error 0x00000080 (0x00000000) (0x00000000) sysem has been shut down.Now I have done a google and it appears I am not the only one to have suffered this but everyone else seems to have had to perform some sort of repair/fresh install,where now I seem to be ok after only having to perform a hard boot/resetting screen res.The things noted on Google were that it could be dodgy RAM....that got alarm bells ringing as I have just changed it so did memtest for just over 2 hours that resulted in all passes and no errors.The only other thing is that I have been trying different catalyst drivers.Anyone have any further advice as to what could have caused this?

Basically you only have one option. boot from dvd, and either repair install or clean re-install
Can you give us more info on the hardware

Hi.

I've been trying to fix this for a couple of days now and I have run out of ideas.
The Microsoft logo appears and the loading bar but then the Blue screen and I cannot boot into Windows.
So far I have tried:-
Boot Last Known Configuration (BSOD)
Safe mode (BSOD)
Startup Repair (No errors found because technically its does boot...)
System Restore (No restore points)
Chkdsk
sfc /scannow (Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation(?))

Is there anything else I can try before I just reinstall Vista?
Thanks.

Hi guys I have a windows xp pro pc which boots to the blue screen of death with this error. STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000080 (0x00000000 0x0000000)The system has been shutdown. As I have understood the pc had an update and shutdown since then this is as far the pc will go all I would like to do is uninstall the update but I?m not sure which update it is I think it might be googletoolbar update as this seems to be the last file that was updated. as I have slaved the HDD onto a windows vista pc I would like to know how I delete this from the registry or uninstall this update from accessing this as a slave as I have no way of accessing this HDD any other way as all the F8 functions still boots to the blue screen and will not boot from last good boot or recover I have also run a chekdisk which the pc will still boot to the blue screen.Please could you help Thanks in advanced

Answer:STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}

Mostly (but not always) BSOD's are hardware. I would check all your connections and if necessary clean all card edge connectors with a pencil eraser (including RAM). Pop the RAM and cards in and out a few times afterwards to ensure there is no oxide on the sockets.The last update might just be coincidence. You could try going to the BIOS screen - if it doesn't make it to that it is not a Windows problem.Please come back and let us know the outcome.

Hope someone here can help me with this problem... I would greatly appreciate it. (Cause if I don't get this fixed, my family is going to drive me -nuts-).

So let's see. This is a family PC, has XP, sees a lot of action, downloads, etc. It's about two years old I would guess. There's often the occasional bug or pest but nothing major.

Then yesterday there was a virus (somethingBird, not blackbird though). I came into take a look at it. Symantec did its thing, cleaned it, said to reboot. Upon reboot, the desktop went blank (no icons, just the wallpaper). So I rebooted it again got this evil blue screen:

STOP: c000021a {FATAL SYSTEM ERROR}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with
a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.

It will not restart in safe mode, always go back to the blue screen with the error message. I cannot access at all at this point and have now spent two hours scouting the internet on my laptop trying to find some sort of solution for this.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Answer:Stop: C000021a (fatal system error)

The error refers to the fact that the SMSS.EXE service was unable to load for some reason.Since you're not able to boot to Windows you'll have to look to either a repair install or a wipe and reinstall of Windows.For the repair install, read this first if you have IE7 installed: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=917964Then use this procedure for the repair install: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

I just finished building a computer and I am installing Win 7 HP. Not long before it gets to the partition screen I get a blue screen error with the following details:

STOP: c00021a (Fatal System Error). The initial session process or system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000000 (0xc0000221 0x001003a8). The system has been shut down. I tried 2 hard drives, same thing. I have been building for a long time now and this is the first time I ran into this error. What is the likely cause of this error? Thanks!

Answer:STOP: C00021a Fatal System Error

The most Valuable suggestions about this issue can be obtained from BSOD Index - carrona.org

Quote:

If the error occurs during system startup, restart your computer, and press F8 at the character-based menu that displays the operati... Read more

Hi People, I'm having a problem with my Dell Inspiron B130 running Windows XP Home Edition Operating system. It is 3yrs. old. A flash drive that was used was infected thus, the AVG (free) antivirus showed that the PC had the Heur virus. The scan cleaned some but others could not be deleted, eventually the system shut down. The laptop was taken to a technician who reprogrammed it. All the files were deleted and the new program worked well for a few days then whenever I tried to log on XP Professional justs starts up and then shuts down, then a blue screen just flashes a quick message, then it starts up again. I have tried starting it using all the options available in F8. When I F8 and disable automatic restart, the blue screen that flashed briefly remained and I was able to see the following message:

Stop: c000021a {Fatal system error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of f0x00000080
(0x 00000000 0x00000000)
The system has been shut down

I do not have the operating disc. Please advise

Thanks in advance

Hi there try this :

The system has been shut down. After unsuccessfully trying F8, Safe Mode and Last Know Good Configuration press and hold Ctrl+Shift+Esc to start task manager and on applications tab hit new task and run system restore (in windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe). Then Reboot !

These are instructions for you to try :

Reboot the system and continue pressing F8 ?> a screen that allows for a F1: Boot ?> do the F1 and continue pressing F8 to get the Safe Mode screen ?> select the Last Know Good Configuration and repeatedly press Ctrl+Shift+Esc sequence ?> Windows XP should load correctly! ?> open the C drive ?>windows folder ?>system32 folder ?>restore folder ?> and start the rstrui application ?> select a date prior to the download of the bad files ?> and now the problem should be gone !

Let me know if this works !
Good Luck !

I have a Windows XP laptop with SP3. Earlier today I was just browsing the internet, nothing special, and out of nowhere I began getting all these popups from my Avira. Well, since I had this problem before and I solved it by clicking on delete file on each popup and then scanning my computer, I was planning on doing the same but the popups would not stop. I tried opening up Task Manager to see if I could see a program running that wasn't supposed to be or whatever but my task manager would not come up. Instead, I kept getting an error saying Task Manager could not start up because of something registry error or I'm not sure what it said. I got scared and just forced it to shut down.

When I tried to reboot, I got the blue screen saying STOP: c00002la {Fatal System Error}The Windows Logon process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of Oxc0000034 (Ox00000000 Ox00000000). The system has been shut down.

I have tried running Safe Mode, booting from last configuration that worked. I have tried nearly everything I have seen online from using the Recovery Console, chkdsk, bootcfg, all those.. have copied the system files into tmp and tried to do what it said on the Windows website but nothing has changed. I don't want to lose my files because there are important pictures from my niece when she was born and everything I have done through college. I can't lose these files. A repair installation will not affect your files, so this is one option. One other option it to try a System Restore. I'll provide you with instructions for both of these.System Restore.Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> System Restore.When this opens make sure that "Restore my computer to an earlier time" is chosen, and click on Next>.The dates appearing in bold are the dates that you can restore to, click on the date that you want and then click Next> to start the System Restore. This may take a long time to complete, and when it is done it will restart your computer. When the computer restarts and you have logged on as the administrator a Restoration Complete page will appear, click on OK to complete the process.Repair Installation.Boot the computer from the XP CD. You may need to change boot order in the BIOS so that the CD-ROM is the first device in the boot order.When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft Windows XP to run on your computer: To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER. To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R. To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.Press Enter to start the Windows Setup.
