[Resolved] Left pane in Explorer greyed out

Question: [Resolved] Left pane in Explorer greyed out

I have seen this problem listed for Win98 and ME, but not for Win2000. I just updated IE to 6.0 and now the left pane in Explorer is greyed out and blank. Do you have a fix for Win2000?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

OH No I'm two years late BUT
I have XP & IE6.1 AND Windows Explorer & My Docs both open the same, with the Folders panel greyed out. Usually in Win Exp I see the other files as a sub directory of the one in the Folders panel.

I have tried
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{EFA24E64-B078-11d0-89E4-00C04FC9E26E}\InProcServer32] @="C:\\WINDOWS\\SYSTEM\\SHDOCVW.DLL"
Also
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar
You will find the following 3 sub keys: Explorer, ShellBrowser, WebBrowser
Delete each of these sub-keys ITBarLayout.
also
Use Registry Editor to delete the ExplorerBar value in the following registry key, and then restart your computer: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
also
Reloaded (not repired) XP
Loaded ie 7 and then unloaded (too confusing)

ALL did not work

Hi to all, i have a laptop running Windows 7 Professional. The problem is strange and havent had it on any other Windows 7 machine.

If i click the folder icon on the bottom tool bar (windows explorer) then in the left hand pane expand the C drive then right click on any folder it instantly displays a dialog saying Explorer has experienced a problem and needs to close, windows is
looking for a fix for this problem (cant remember exact wording) then Explorer.exe restarts. This happens on the local C drive and Network drives.
I though it could be a permissions problem so have taken ownership of all files & folders on the C drive which made no difference, i have removed the laptop from our server / domain and it is still the same / no change.
Can anyone shed any light on this problem or offer any ideas on fixing it? the laptop is only a few months old and is i5 / 4GB RAM Dell machine running Windows 7 Pro SP1 office 2003 Pro, checked for virus & adware & all clean.

Answer:Explorer.exe crashes when righ click on item in left pane on windows explorer nothing in system logs, explorer.exe restarts.

The faulting module (Fault Module Name: SHELL32.dll) shell32.dll is a Windows system file however the file that is actually causing the crash may be a third party file which from the symptoms
may be a third party context menu handler.
The following link has some info and a download to ShellExView which you can use to selectively disable third party context menu handlers to find out a problematic one:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/slowrightclick.htm
You could try disabling all non-Microsoft context menu handlers and then, if the problem resolves, re-enable them one at a time to see which one was the problem.
BTW, the error should be logged in the Event Viewer Application log as a Application Error involving explorer.exe

I can see contents of folders in the Right pane and navigate thru folders using the Up arrow in the Tool bar, but can't see any folder hierarcy in the Left pane--it's just totally blank? I can minimize the Left pane and expand the Right pane across the whole screen, or bring back the two panes??? Help

I just reformated my hard drive and reloaded XP Home. The problem I'm having, is that when I open Windows Explorer, (not Internet Explorer) the left pane (tree) does not cascade automatic to show all the folders. It just shows Documents, My Computer and the + sign beside each one to expand to the folders. It used to do this automatically in the past. I've tried all the view options on the tool bars, all property settings and nothing works. I'm running active desktop like I always do. Any ideas?

Thanks, Steve

If I expand a folder that's down towards the bottom and there's a lot of subfolders, then everything moves up to make room for the subfolder list. That's as it should be. But about the time I go to click on one of the subfolders, the whole list moves down again and you have to scroll back down to get where you want. After that, it stays put. It's an bug/annoyance that I hope someone gets fixed.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Answer:Windows Explorer left hand pane

I think the OP is noticing the little quirk in Win 7 where Explore does not bring the left pane target folder (the one with focud) up to the to of the pane, throwing it instead to the bottom of the pane.

A nuisance for sure, but unresolved to my knowledge.

I can get Windows Explorer to open to a specific folder in the Right Pane, but it only shows the "Computer" or "C:" level in the Left pane. I have tried pinning the folder to "Start", and have also tried various switches (n, e, select) as the target in Explorer.

Attached is an example where a shortcut in Start opens TechInfo in the right panel, but not the left.

Is there any way to open the folder in the left pane also? It's a minor issue, but a pain!

TIA.

Can anyone tell me how to get the Left pane back using Regedit ?I always use shortcut Win + E to open Windows Explorer. I edited the Registry to let the mouse pointer open a program by just pointing the arrow at the program icon. However that did not happen. And though I undid that edit. I lost the left pane in Windows Explorer in the bargain. The Windows Explorer displays only the right pane. How do I resurrect the left pane in W Explorer?

From IE toolbar, click on show favourites, or history if you wish, and the left pane should appear showing whichever you have chosen. j.

Yes this has been answered before (in 2001, I think) but the solution as provided via Rollin' Rog:

failed to work. Maybe because IE is version 6?

The symptoms are the same - blank, b'ground-coloured left pane. The above was entered (I also tried 'shdocvw.dll' but no dice.

Any further possible solutions, please?

I had a look at your problem just after you posted eary this morning. Was not sure that i understood what is going on.Thought you had got your Windows Explorer.exe confused with internet explorer.exe.I also considered you had poss a bad update of IE5 as it appears to only have one choice in the add/remove programs for it.Considered at some stage you may have had a virus, but you don't mention anything about a virus scan or any error messages.I would suggest that your problem is wide spread through-out your pc and i think you have issues with your registry and corrupt files within the windows installation."I could also be very wrong" You could go for a quick re-install of windows 98 over itself and see if that cures the problem. It may give you a chance to keep all software programs that are installed and running properly,if that be the case.If it was me, i would not hesitate to reformat and do a repeat clean install of windows.Unless someone can come up with a better idea.

Welcome to TSG, tthulen.

Run regedit and navigate to the following key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{EFA24E64-B078-11d0-89E4-00C04FC9E26E}

With that key highlighted, click File (or Registry) > Export, name and save the key to the desktop.

With the .reg file on the desktop, Right click on it and rename it with a .txt extension

Now upload it here as an attachement so we can see what is there. There is a possible fix for this, but it may vary somewhat in Win2k

This is something that's been bothering me since I upgraded this Dell XPS8700 to windows 10 some two weeks or more ago.

The left pane in File Explorer seems to duplicate my drive letters and info other than what's under the entry "This PC".

If I look down the list, starting just below the Libraries folder, the drive letters are repeated but not all of them.

Like I have under This PC : C: , DVDRW D:, E:, F: , a card reader, H,L,K, external drives L:, another card reader letter M:, a second external drive N:, followed by some NAS folders I have mapped, V, W, X. and Y.

Down past the Libraries folder are again: H, L, N, M, K, and I, then Network etc, Homegroup etc.

Hard to describe, I could do a screen shot and post it if that would help see it.

How and why are all these drive letters getting into this tree twice? Anyone?

Hello,

I just noticed Win Explorer does not refresh the right pane as I navigate up/down a list of folders via arrow keys in the left pane. It used to make rapid visual read of folder contents possible. Can that feature be switched back on?

I've seen this reported elsewhere few years ago but I cannot find it on this site.

Answer:Windows Explorer right pane does not match left folder

Not sure if that's possible. Use the up or down button until you have highlighted the one you want. Then press Enter or Space to update the pane to the right. You use the left and right buttons to collapse/expand sub folders.

I find Space the best and fastest option since you use both hands. One to navigate and the other to refresh the right pane.

Hi Guys!
Sorry if this was posted already, really busy!

Well this is my problem...i have a couple of pcs with windows xp, and i want to disable the windows explorer view, like explore all users by right clicking on the start menu orb. Or simply as when opening the file explorer, never having the left pane with the file list tree, so that no program can activate this view...

I have older people working in this company and sometimes they just dont let go of the left click on the mouse, making them moving files they are not supposed to.

We use a access database that views its contents (like docs, pics, gifs) always with this left pane with tree listing of all the folders...

I would be gratefull for this solution...

Whenever explorer opens, I can never find the folders I want easily. Therefore, I put them in the Favorites part of the navigation pane. However, still, when I open explorer, the left pane goes somewhere so low down that I can't even see my the favorites folder. Every single time I have to scroll all the way up to the top to find basic things like "Desktop." Is there ANY WAY to be able to always have the favorites bar showing on the left? To never have it disappear, no matter what folder in the tree Windows has opened? This was fine in XP. Its just AWFUL in windows 7. Takes time and is totally frustrating, and there seems to be no way to fix it as far as I have researched? Can anyone help me fix this?

On a side note, which is not nearly as important as my issue above, (because this one frustrated me to the point of no longer caring), is there any way to have the desktop fill up the space of a removed icon, but yet not reorganize the entire screen to where the last organization of your files is totally reorganized the next time you check? I want them to stay there, in that order when I shut down the computer, if I move something, I want all the files in front of that thing I moved to move back one space. Go to your navigation pane. Click on favorites. now right click on a blank space in the pane. Select "Expand to current folder".

Once the pane has expanded to favorites, right click again on an empty space in the pane and uncheck the box "Expand to Current Folder". Explorer should now automatically open at that location.

My problem is how the left window reacts when I select a folder.

If I have a long list of folders in the left window and I click on the small arrow to the left of a folder, it is supposed to show the list of sub-folders that are in the selected folder.

It does but here is my problem. Lets say the folder that I select is in the middle of the left window. When I click on the small arrow, Windows Explorer shifts the folder list down so that the selected folder is near the bottom of the window. Generally I can only see one of the sub-folders. And then I have to use the slider to move the selected folder up so I can see more than one sub-folder.

I wish it would leave the folder where it was and show as many sub-folders as possible underneath the selected folder. I hope this explanation makes sense.

Answer:The Navigation Pane on the left side of Windows Explorer

I tried it on my Computer and the on clicking the arrow it moves up as it should instead of going down. Please try out the following steps to correct the problem.

1. Restore the folder to default as follows and check if that helped:

a. Open windows explorer
b. Click on Organize
c. Select folder and search option from the list
d. Select General tab, and select “Restore Default”

2. Run an online scanner to check any malware or virus activity. The link that will help you to run a free scan on the computer is Windows Live OneCare

3. If the above steps do not help then run the SFC (System File Checker) scan on the computer to fix the system file errors on the computer. To run SFC scan, follow the steps below:

a. Click Start ,
b. Click All Programs ,
c. Click Accessories , right-click Command Prompt ,
d. And then click Run as administrator.
e. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow or Continue.
f. At the prompt, type sfc /scannow and hit enter. Once the scan is complete, restart the computer for the changes to take effect.

Please tell if this was of any use.

I have looked at everything thoroughly and cannot figure out how it happened or how to get the information back. When Windows Explorer is open, if I right-click on anything in the left-pane, Explorer crashes and re-starts.

I've googled, and tried using NirSoft's ShellFix, disabled the most common issues googling resulted in:
#1 Remove Nvidia context-menu and for desktop right-click.
#2 Remove Spybot Search & Destroy context-menu.
#3 Remove Nvidia "nvshext.dll" (not found after using ShellFix)

None of these resulted in a fix at all. I've tried booting in safe mode, the same problem exists. I can right-click on file and folders in the right pane of Explorer, but right-clicking in the left pane, whether folder or drive. Explorer still crashes.

I found a Microsoft page regarding a similar issue, and to be on the safe side, I tried that. Still doing the same thing.

This is really driving me crazy, since I use portable backup drives to re-install my games onto the system but it's pretty hard to drag and drop when you can't have a second Explorer pane open.

Anyone have any ideas?

In Windows Seven if I right click in Explorer left pane Favorites I can then press 'e' to open that folder in a new window. In Vista, I have to press 'o'. Being right handed and wanting to use the mouse, now I have to reach across with my left hand to press the 'o' key.

Is there no way to change the underline/shortcut/accelerator whatever they call it key in the context menu? I see no way to do it. I look in the Registry and I don't see any "&" in front of any of the letters. But the short cut letter is there just the same. There must be a way to change it.

All I've been able to find is turn the display of underline on and off. No info how to change the letter itself.

Answer:Change underline key for Explorer Left Pane context menu?

I would like to let you know that this option is not present in Windows Vista as it a design issue.

This one is getting really annoying. I have noticed that sometimes when using Windows Explorer, if I rename a folder, the right hand pane shows the correct (new) folder name, but the left hand pane still displays the old folder name.

As a matter of fact, even if I right click on the folder name on the left hand pane, and choose "Rename", and then rename it there, when I hit Enter to save the name change, the folder name on the left (that was just highlighted and changed) will revert back to the original name....but the name in the right hand pane will show the change.

For some reason, it just doesn't seem to want to update the view in the left hand pane. And then, to top it off, after some undetermined amount of time, the left hand pane will "refresh" to show the new folder name, but it will STILL show the old folder in the list as well. If I right-click the parent folder and choose "Open in New Window", the view is correct, but the original window still shows the old folder names.

This may only happen after my Explorer windows (I usually have 4 or 5 up) have been open for a long time, as I tried to reproduce with new windows and the behavior is normal (left hand pane updates view immediately).

I've reported it already, but just curious if anyone else has experienced this odd behavior.

Answer:Windows Explorer left-pane not showing changes to folder names

Hi CorrsFan

I think this is just a part of it being a Beta still. I have tried to delete the HomeGroup section, and while it goes for awhile as soon as it refreshes it's back. Just like some sections of the Registry is locked out and some permissions can't be changed, these things will all be sorted out by RC1. Renaming any system item is locked down in the registry and Left (Navigation) Pane items seem to be a part of this lockout.

Make sure to send MS Feedback on this so they know what works and doesn't.

Answer:Change underline key for Explorer Left Pane context menu?

Just left-click "Open in new window" from the right-click menu. No need to use the keyboard at all for that. Using the mouse buttons is quicker anyway (at least it should be if you already have the mouse under your hand).

Dear All:

I have been experiencing an annoying issue in Windows (Windows Ultimate 64 bits, Home premium 64 bits and Windows 8 Pro 64 bits) min

After working well for a few minutes, the windows explorer freezes upon launch, only displaying the "favorites", "libraries" and "homegroup" icons in the left pane. The elements in the mentioned icons cannot be accessed and sometimes they have a magnifying glass on them and the icons on the desktop are blank.

Also, Control Panel windows is often empty after this error takes place.

This issue often, but not necessarily, comes about when i try to check the properties of a file, with windows explorer freezing immediately.

I have reinstalled Windows 7 twice to no avail.

Anyone has ideas on how to fix this? It's rendering my two laptops unusable.
Highly appreciate any useful advice.

Thank you,
Madasco

I click on the "+" beside the icon of a drive or folder near the bottom of the left pane of my Windows 7 Explorer. If the list of sub folders that opens is longer than the distance to the bottom of the pane, the lower icons become hidden. Those subfolders extend "below" the pane -- out of view. I want the contents of the pane to shift upward so that all the sub folders of interest are visible -- like on my XP computer and my win98 computer?

Is there a way that I can fix this?

I have seen the article in relation to how to fix this problem on a Windows 95 and 98 machine but not a Windows 2000 machine as the registry key mentioned does not exist in Win2k.

I currently have things like Favourites, Libraries, and Homegroup (all of which I don't care for). Not sure what that folder pane is actually called, so not sure what to search for.
I just want an expanded folder tree of My Computer.

Any suggestions?

When I open an instance of windows explorer, the navigation pane show little or nothing (no drives, folders, etc.). Also the preview pane does not show a preview for any selected files (See Capture1.JPG).
If I open a second (or higher) instance of windows explorer, the navigation pane functions properly (the preview still does not show) (See Capture2.JPG).
I have previews set to show (See Capture3.JPG).
Also occasionally, the file icons will be blank instead of showing the file type specific icon. When this happens, the address bar also seems to take a long time to load. The load bar will stop before reaching the end and won't finish (See Capture4.JPG).

Does anyone know what is going on or how to fix this?

FYI I am running 64 bit Windows 7 Pro.

Try Explorer++ and see if you get the same problem.

Need to enable "Folders" view.
If it works then you can rule out problems with system files and it's probably a buggy shell extension.

It's portable and runs without installation.

Is it possible to have no Nav Pane when opening a Desktop folder, but have Nav Pane when opening Win Explorer? Like it was in WinXp/Win98/Win95?
When I disable Nav Pane, it disappears for Desktop folders and Windows Explorer.

I think the answer was 'no' for Win7.

I installed Classic Start Menu hoping one of it's features could do it. If it does, I've not been able to enable it. Other than that, Classic Start Menu is a super improvement.

On my laptop with XP-PRO SP2 installed I can rename a file or folder in both the left and right explorer panes by slowly left clicking twice on the file or folder name (not the icon). I really like not having to right click and select rename from the context menu. However, I am unable to rename files and folders in the left explorer pane on either of my two desktop PCs, one with XP-PRO SP2 installed, the other with XP-PRO SP3 installed. Is there a Registry modification or a setting somewhere I could change on my two desktops to allow me to rename in the left pane by clicking the name twice. I am comfortable making Registry modifications and I am careful to make backups of the Registry keys and values before changing them. I have searched the internet using Google but have been unable to find the answer. I would greatly appreciate any information on this subject. Thanks.

I then collapse them again, but after a while they expand again.

How can I stop them from ever expanding?

Hi,

i love the new left side pane in folder view, but i cannot seem to get it to show 'Desktop'

id like to place it where the red line is

[also, can you change the icons for 'libraries' ]

Answer:Customize the left hand folder pane?

Hi al4x,

The closest I got with adding the desktop icon to the side pane is you can add the desktop Icon by clicking the Favorites arrow.(it might be already there). If you don't have any favorites or the arrow is not there you can add the Desktop Icon to it by Clicking and holding the icon and drag it to the favorites tab..

I have not been able to figure out if you can just add an icon anywhere in the side pane my guess in no..

And I have not found a way to change the icons for the libraries..(I don't think you can)

Hope this Helps..

How do you get the left folder pane back into position with the right message pane next to it.
Once again, the messages pane are on top of the folder pane.

Recently, I started to use HP Laptop on daily basis and found 'Search' at the left side of the pane/screen is missing/lost when clicking on 'Search' at the top. 'Search' at the address bar is perfectly OK tho'.

Is this issue related to not use it for a while, .... or how did it disappear?

Windows 7 has apparently lost the ability to rename a folder in Explorer's left-hand (Navigation) pane by left-clicking a highlighted folder a 2nd time.

I know I can use F2 or right-click< Rename, or even rename in the right-hand pane, but I'm so used to doing it it the left-hand pane that I keep forgetting and trying to do it.

So is this intentional or is it a bug? I'd like to know so I can report/request it for a future SR. Although I have a feeling it's supposed to be this way and I'm wasting my time. Still.... it's always worth a try.

I think it's intentional. You can see the full options if you right-click on any folder at the left pane of Windows Explorer, so i think it's not bug.

I left my laptop (Acer 5003 Aspire) alone for a few minutes. It now has a dialog box showing, saying:

This computer is in use and has been locked.
Only [COMPUTERNAME]\[Username] or an administrator can unlock this computer.

Username: [Greyed out box with flashing text cursor]
Password: {Greyed out]

[buttons:} _OK_ _Cancel_

The "Cancel" button is greyed out too.

If I try to type in the username box, I get a warning 'ping!', but no text appears. The exceptions to this are if I type one of the function keys, or a capital letter U, I, O, J, K, L, M, or the punctuation & or * or (. In those cases I I do not get a warning 'ping!', but still get no text. I cannot tab to or click in the Password field. The mouse tracks fine. If I click the OK button, I get another dialog box with a big warning X on it, saying:

This computer is in use and has been locked. Only [COMPUTERNAME]\[Username] or an administrator can unlock this computer.

I of course know all the users that are registered on this machine, and their passwords. If this were a desktop, I would pull the power cord out and restart it, in the hope I could log in as normal. Since this is a laptop, and the "Power Off" button is also disabled, and I cannot pull out the power cable, as this will only have it work on the battery. What do you recommend I do?

My computer has been having some problems lately and I really do not know what is going on.

I'm running a 2008 Toshiba laptop and about a month ago I started noticing that my cursor would randomly turn into a rainbow? this was the first problem I couldn't figure out, even going through forums and forums. Then I started noticing that every other website was being redirected to random spyware websites, even in the middle of viewing a website for over 3-4 minutes it could just randomly redirect me.

Finally, the most annoying thing of all has happened and I can't find ANYTHING about it; when I plug in my mouse everything works fine, but then i notice if i left click it'll open the property pane and also create a highlighted box.. basically any time i click anything, it acts as if i'm pressing the right click 5 times for every left click. This makes it very very difficult to click on links, play games, or virtually use my lap top at all. I have noticed something though, I swapped out my mouse for another and still had the same problem, BUT my touchpad doesn't have any of the problems above?? is it the driver for my USB mouse malfunctioning?
If you want the shorter version of that: My mouse changes into a rainbow randomly, i'm constantly redirected to websites for no reason, and my mouse will not stop spamming right click even when I left click but my touchpad doesn't have problems.

Hi. My problem is slightly different but along the same lines? When I open Explorer, Favorites is displayed at the top of the left column, as desired. However, not all of the folders I have designated for Favoriates is displayed in the left column. When I left click on the word "Favorites," then in the right column the entire list of Favorites folders does display. (Meaning: there's a list of nine folders on the right side, but back in the left column under Favorites only seven are displayed.)

I've tried all of the solutions described above and none fixes this problem. If I try to drag a folder from Right to Left, two things happen: (A) A copy of that folder is created on the right side (so I'll see the original and a version with "(2)" after the name; and (B) on the left side, one of the folders that used to be in Favorites no longer displays.

I don't know why a copy is made on the Right, but the action on the Left leads me to believe that somehow the left column Favorites is set to display no more than seven (7) items, but I can't find where to change that setting.

ANy ideas out there?

Answer:Favorites in left pane does not display all Favorite folders

Hello Kell, and welcome to Seven Forums.

As a test, open your C:\Users\(user-name)\Links folder, and see what you have for shortcuts there. If they are all there, then cut and paste them to your desktop to empty the folder, then copy them back to see if they appear in the navigation pane under Favorites afterwards.

If that doesn't help, then try the tutorial below along with the yellow TIP box if needed.

I use Netscape 4.7. In Messenger, in the pane that displays what messages are being kept in the current folder, are a number of columns, some of whose headings I do not understand.

One column, in my case located between "Subject" and "Sender," consists of a green diamond, and all the messages underneath have a dark gray diamond (or plus sign) on the each of the line of the message list.

Another column head shows a yellow flag, and one message in the list below is also marked with a yellow flag.

What are the meanings of these symbols?

------------------
R. J. Emery

Answer:(Resolved) Understanding Columns in Netscape Messenger Pane

On the above, the Help files are of little use. Either I don't know the correct key words to use, or there is nothing within to explain what I seek.

In any event, through trial and error, I have discovered the following:

The "Green Diamond" column is the unread/read indicator. The "grey plus" is the read indicator. Point one's mouse to it and left-click and it changes to the "green diamond." The line also becomes bold, both of which indicate an unread message. Left-click and it changes back to the "grey plus" and becomes unbold, meaning read.

The "yellow flag" column is a means by which the user can mark messages for some possible noteworthiness or as a signal for future or further action. Left-click on the "grey plus," and it becomes a yellow flag. Left-click again and it returns to a "grey plus."

Unless someone has something to add or further clarification, I believe my query has now been answered.

I just need help identifying image numbers which I cannot see listed in Wikipedia, namely the ones in my thread title which you can see have a white background with dark fonts text which I obviously need to invert to match them with the rest of the dark background/lighter font text theme.

Can anybody point me to a resource or URL that lists/can help me identify every aero.msstyles image number?

I'm currently using the trial version of "Restorator 2007" but apart from opening every single image in the image and stream folder I can't see how I can pinpoint the correct image for the incorrect white background/dark fonts for the "left pane Control Panel & 3D pop-up backgrounds and fonts etc"?

Any help much appreciated

The left Control panel image is bitmap #s 632 and 633 in shell32.dll in both C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64.

Post a link to the theme and I can look at it and give you the image #s for the popup on the taskbar.

Most custom theme on deviant art and other places are made with Ave's Windows7 Style Builder and it changes the image #s so it's hard to have a list of #s, the only way I know how to change test color is with Windows St... Read more

Hello, in Outlook 2013 there is a pane/sidebar on the left of the main UI where all of my configured email accounts are listed. Here I can see my gmail and comcast accounts and if desired, expand the folder list for each account. I recently added a new Yahoo pop3 account but for some reason it doesn't appear there. It works properly as far as send/receive but doesn't show up in the list. Any idea how to fix?

Answer:Outlook 2013, Pop acct doesn't appear in left sidebar pane

Sounds like you set up the new email account to use the default PST file.

My husband and I (an our daughter) share a single desktop PC and he managed to do something cool to his save dialog box left pane: changed the shortcuts from the default and useless My Network, My Computer etc. to folders that he actually uses.

I wanted the same thing so I asked him how he did that and he mentioned a utility called TweakUI. I asked him to install it for me but he said that he can't because it only works on administrator accounts and my account (and my daughter's) are limited accounts.

I hate this when my hubby selfishly gives himself something that he doesn't give us but he said this is "necessary for security reasons".

This is my first post asking for PC help ever. I registered just to show him that I can have this too - with your help of course.

Do you know of a tool that can help me achieve what he did for his account?

Thanks.
Nancy

Answer:[SOLVED] Customize shortcuts on save dialog box left pane?

You are not going to be able to install anything or change any styles, themes or icons unless your Husband makes you and Administrator too. Of course, if you got his password, you can log in as him and reset your user account to Admin, but you didn't hear it from me.

i have changed the font size of icon, menu, message box etc. by using advance setting of -- Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Personalization\Window Color and Appearance

but i cannot change the font size of control panel items after trying on internet about 2 days

i will be highly grateful to u if u provide me the exact solution

i want change the font of first screen below without changing dpi

Answer:change the font size of left pane of the control panel nochange in dpi

Welcome to Seven Forums sanji0611. As far as I know, the navigation pane font size alone cannot be changed. I have never seen any of the system font size setting affect the navigation pane; I think you can change the actual font, but not the size. A Guy

I tend to use the left pane in Windows explorer a lot. I have multiple drives/partitions in my desktop as well as a "rack" of external drives that I connect via a USB hub. I spend a lot of time creating, editing, and saving/moving multimedia files.
In XP, all I have to do in the left pane of Windows Explorer is to single click a folder and not only do the contents of that folder display in the right pane, if there are sub folders inside that folder I clicked, all those sub folders will expand for that "level" of the directory tree.
In Vista, that doesn't happen. I need to double click, or look for that silly little triangle and accurately "zero-in"" on it before I can see the sub folders. This is an absolute pain - If I were to design a feature that would really annoy users, this would be on the top of the (my) list.
When I have to use a notebook, this need to zero-in on that tiny little triangle using the touchpad makes the user experience for me even less enjoyable.
Does anybody know of a way to make the Windows Explorer in Vista Home Premium behave the same way as it did in XP?

Answer:Single click to expand folder tree in left pane Vista

The triangle you are referring to is a single click item seen in 7 as well as in Vista. The settings in the menu bar>tools>folder options can be set for open by single or double clicking.

I really need a help here. About two days ago I was trying to improve the speed of my system. I think I have delete an important file. My curent problem is that
1) When I rightclick a desktop icons I only get an hour glass, the system stops responding to any thing. The only way out of it it to either log off or shut down and restart.
2) When I open the recycle bin though it appears full on the desktop icon I could not see any item on it.
3) If I try do delete, move this folder or any of the command on the left file/folder task pane I only get hour glass. The only way out of it is ctrl+alt+del, task manager (program not responding) end task.
However, this problems do not occur on Internet Exp. pages

Answer:right click desktop icon, recycle bin, left file/folder task pane not responding

Been grappling for some time to customizing the right pane of either Win7 or Win10 (not sure if they respond the same) to allow permanent column and column title arrangements. Ideally I would like to apply such attributes to a specific folder and all it's sub-folders. An example is below:
I would also love to be able to set these columns as fixed widths, but this is not as important as the specific columns themselves.

Hyello all.

A rather annoying list/menu/something has really been proving to be a problem lately. I'll try and explain the issue the best i can.

Okay, while using a full screen program or game everything works great. But if i move my cursor to the top left corner a list of programs on my desktop shortcuts then within a split second the full screen program minimizes.

Now, it's not really anything epic or a fatal error but it's proving to be quite an annoyance while playing Starcraft.

Does anyone have any ideas what i can do to stop this?

Thanks in advance,
-Dagx

I had no problem with sound until I installed Winamp 2.91 and when I played my CD there was no sound coming from the left speaker. I checked my QCD Media Player, which played fine before this and it too was only playing sound from the right speaker as well as my other two media players which played fine before this. The only media player I have which plays from both speakers now is Windows Media Player. I uninstalled Winamp and yet the problem persists.
What could be disabling the left speaker in my other players and yet allowing it in Windows media player? Also, the odd thing is that, when I use the other media players, which now only play through the right speaker, I have use of the features on the CD unit such as the headphone jack and the advance button (to advance to the next track) but when I use Windows media Player I do not have use of these features. Confusing.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Angie

Answer:(Resolved) Lost left speaker sound

probably the balance has been shifted to the other side. go to the control panel and to sound. You can also click the volume icon in the systray. now check that all the volume balance are placed in the middle or not. Now open the media player that are causing problems and check that whether the balance has been shifted or not.

good luck!

We have an issue in our organization with Add ons in IE11 being greyed out.
Now i know how to resolve this issue with a registry key which i can deploy in a GPO, but i am required to provide a reason as to why they are greyed out; as a few months back they were not.
In the interim we upgraded our Adobe Reader to 11, Java update 144 and deploy MS patches every month.
Can someone please try and assist with this, i am at my wits end trying to find the answer through Googke
