Windows XP error, probably hard drive error, recovery disc not working

Question: Windows XP error, probably hard drive error, recovery disc not working

Anyways yesterday I posted about how I accidently uninstalled some preloaded Windows programs, I reinstalled some of them, but now my laptop's all funny. When I connect to The Internet, any program that I open freezes for like 10 minutes, after which it unfreezes. During this time I normally restart my computer, with no success. If I open Windows Live Messenger and Internet Explorer 7 together it freezes normally.
Pinball, WordPad, Sound Recorder, and Volume Control cannot be restored.
Also, I tried using my Toshiba Recovery DVD, with no success. It says Loading RAMDISK Image, then it reboots and loads the exact same system with no changes made. I called in to Toshiba support, a customer service rep and I redid this process, and no success. He says there might be a hard drive corruption so severe that it refuses to accept The DVD.
What can I do?
My computer specs:

Toshiba Satellite a100
Windows XP Home SP2
Intel Centrino dual-core 1.6 GHz
100 GB hard drive
DVD-RAM multi-layer burner

Yada yada.
Please help, and if you require any more information I will be glad to provide it.

BTW, I had this exact same problem with my previous laptop, which was the same kind. That one, I returned it to Future Shop and I got it exchanged for this one since it was still 2 weeks of my purchase. It's been 2 months, however, so that option is not open.
Update: When I connect to The Internet, if I try to open ANY programs it freezes, not just IE7 or WLM.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Answer:will not boot- MBR Error, after recovery attempt- Hard drive write error!

hi, you say it does not recognise the system recovery disk, have you accessed the BIOS, by pressing f1, f10, f10 or del then go to boot order and make sure the cd is booting first then the hard drive. Also in the bios check if the cd-ROM is detected.
Is it possible to access safemode through f8? or can you only choose the two options displayed?
I think it might be that your hard drive is failing,
Also make sure the BIOS setup doesn't inhibit wrting to the boot sector
Check this to see if the hard drive is failing.

Hi I have an HP that is badly infected. There is nothing in my c drive or so it wants you to believe. It has one of those bogus XP recovery diagnostic pop ups and Hard drive problem pop ups.It stopped my Avira anti virus and right now I have had problems downloading Malwarebytes. No matter what i do it tells me that access is denied or it downloads but when I try to open it I can't. I was able to download and run Superantispyware and it found over 400 detections and I removed them but who knows what is really removed. I know I'm supposed to post first first but I was able to run rkill and here is that log if it helps at all. My OS is Windows XP What else can I try. This log file is located at C:\rkill.log. Please post this only if requested to by the person helping you. Otherwise you can close this log when you wish. Rkill was run on 05/30/2011 at 8:47:26. When I open my dad's account (he is not the administrator) the desktop is black with a blue dialogue box (WindowsRecovery) which looks like it's from Vista or Windows 7 which is weird because I run xp. It says I have bad sectors on hard drive. It also pops up a dialogue box "Hard Drive Failure - The system has detected a problem with one or more installed IDE / SATA Hard disks. It is recommended that you restart the system." Also the lower right balloon near the clock says " Critical error run a system diagnostic utility .... Hello. I have looked this problem up on the internet, yet none of the answers have been of much help to me. So now I turn to the experts. Recently my external hard drive (500gb, 400gb free space, Seagate Expansion Portable Drive) has come up with what seems to be a common error: "Windows Explorer has stopped working." I go into my hard drive and five seconds later the error message pops up, then it goes 'windows explorer is restarting.' All my icons disappear for a moment then reappear and my external hard drive has shut down. It never used to do this before - it's just started doing it a few hours ago. My computer is a Windows 7, and the antivirus I use is bullguard (if it's of any use.)I scanned my device for malware or errors but it says there's nothing wrong. Keep in mind this is only on my external hard drive. It never happens anywhere else on my computer.Your help is greatly appreciated!~Seki

Answer:'Windows Explorer has Stopped Working' < External Hard Drive Error

Does this external HD have its own power supply? I believe it does. Some uses report the segregate drives can fail after a few months. That should be rare, but I have seen that in more than one credible place. If the drive is inside of warranty , take it back now! But if the problem is the power and interface, you can test the HD by putting it into a desktop PC as the slave drive, or secondary drive.A new enclosure is about $30 here in the USA.

I have Toshiba Satellite pro L300 series laptop and the system crashed and while i try to fix the problem with a recovery disc; the first disc is ok but the second one says redundancy cyclic error. I have copied all the files from the corrupted recovery disc by copying the whole files separately on another laptop and burn it to a new DVD. how can i make this DVD bootable?

Answer:error message of windows xp toshiba recovery disc

You might have to contact toshiba and see if theres recovery/restore disks available for your model of computer with the correct operating system it came with.if the recovery disk is corrupted i dont think copying it to another dvd will work. because you will just be transferring the file with the problem to another disk and it still wont boot right.

Hi All, I have a ThinkPad X61 that is just over 2 years old now. When booting up, it now tells me I have a "fan error."So I guess the fan has died. - Is it an easy enough to replace the fan myself? - If I send it to Lenovo for service, I will probably want   to make a copy of the hard drive first, just in case.   What kind of USB enclosure works with the ThinkPad   hard drive?  It's 2.5", right? SATA or ATA? Any advice much appreciated!Brian

Answer:Fan Error, Hard Drive Recovery

Hi and welcome to the forum Brian,You don't need to send the HDD with the system, just take it out yourself and send it without the drive. The instructions can be found here:- for replacing the fan, if you're into technical stuff then you can replace it yourself by reading this manual:- it helps.

I'm getting that error message when I boot up my computer.

Fortunately I have another hard drive on the same machine with an OS, so I can load it up on that one.

The interesting thing is that I have two partitions of the screwed up hard drive, and one of them works perfectly. I can scan it for errors, access the files, and do everything with it. However, when I try to open the other partition while loaded up on the working HDD, it takes like 5 minutes and then it gives me an error.

Is there anything I can do to fix this short of throwing it in the trash?

I'm using a western digital hard drive, but i'm not sure how to find out the specifics.

If you need any more information feel free to ask.

Hi, I have a T410s with the latest BIOS 1.50 and a Intel X-18M 160 GB (FRU 45N8019). If I try to boot I get the hard drive initialization error. I used the Intel Flash Tool and it says the intel drive has the latest firmware. I also changed BIOS to compatibility mode. What can I do to get this working? As I saw on Thinkwiki ( the laptop was shipped with this SDD so it should work, no? Thank you.

Hi all,

I have been trying to creat recovery discs for my L300 but after a 1-2 mins the programme stops and says "please check if the disc is scratced or dirty, if so, try again with a new disc" error code 0E01B5-26-2A030C00,

I have tried this lots of times with lots of different DVDs over the past few weeks but this keeps happening!

The machine is only a few weeks old and running Vista home premium any advise please as Im stuck.

Thanks for reading.

Answer:Satellite L300 - recovery disc creator error - disc is scratced or dirty

Hi mate

I think you used simply not fully compatible and supported disks.
In my case I couldn?t create the recovery because the CD/DVD drive was not able to handle it.

Fact is that many CD & DVD disks supports different standards and properties and in many cases the CD/DVD drives have many difficulties to handle the different disks.
I think you should simply test some DVD-R disks.

I uses DVD-R and was able create the recovery disk.

Hi - I just installed a new Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 2250GB IDE ATA100 hard drive on my HP a620n after blue screen messages and black screen. PRIMARY MASTER HARD DISK S.M.A.R.T STATUS BAD... Immediate backup and replace hard disk drive. I got into HP PC System Recovery with my old HP Recovery which I made when I got the comp 3 yrs ago. Error Messages:
c:\1386\Apps\App14771\App14771.exe c:\1386\Apps\App17035\App\17035.exe
They both say "cannot be recovered". I always keep retrying, but recovery process is still only at 8% after 6.5 hrs. Is it a waste of time copying files when these error messages keep coming up every 5 min?

I cannot seem to find topics quite like this problem.  I put a new hard drive in my hp Pavillion 9700 and ordered recovery discs to get the system running.  I have System Recovery DVDs 1 and 2 and an Application and Driver Recover CD.  The only one that will load files onto the computer is the Sys. Recov. DVD #1.  I get to the on screen instructions and an Error appears as 0x 4001100200001004.  No clue what this means.  The other System recovery DVD gives me an Op. System Not Found error and the Application and Driver CD tells me the Boot Manager is missing.  If I can get any clues on what to do I will be forever grateful.

Answer:hp Pav. 9700 has new hard drive. Error message when in recovery???

Without knowing more about the disks I'd guess you are supposed to boot to disk one, which would begin the installation process and at some point tell you to replace it with disk number two which would finalize the installation. You would then boot to the OS and insert disk 3 and install the drivers. But it sounds as though you can't get through disk one. Is that the entire error message - those numbers? If so, you should probably contact HP and see what they have to say.

Hi! I hope someone can help with this virus (?).

I have windows vista on an acer aspire. A couple hours ago, I got an error message that said "System error. hard disk failure detected". after that I got about 50 error messages all layered on top of each other. I tried to close some of them (they wouldnt go behind my internet browser window), and was looking for information online, when all my desktop folders disappeared. At the same time the programs in the start menu disappeared. Shortly therafter, the computer shut down (I think I was trying to close more of the windows).

Now I have restarted and little dialog boxes are coming up from the windows bar at the bottom of my screen saying things like: This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use". I accidentally clicked on one (they come up fast!) and a new window opened saying "File Recovery" (it looks like software).

After appearing to run some diagnostic, it has a button saying "Repair 7 issues", as well as a lot of other text and 4 menus at the top (Main, Check, Repair, and Advanced".

Does anyone know how to get this off my computer and get the folders etc. all back? Thanks!

Hello all,

Wondering if anyone can provide recommendations on a hard drive recovery place in NY. Does Dell offer any kind of recovery service...unfortunately my laptop is not under warranty any longer.

Many thanks in advance,

Answer:Hard Drive Recovery Needed - Error Code 0142.

Dell doesn't do data recovery, but they do partner with Gillware ( -- which is well respected and not outrageously expensive (their recovery starts at about $600 and they'll provide the exact cost upon receipt of the drive).

Have created a recovery partition on my data external hard drive. Now all the pc sees is a recovery disc and not the data. Is it possible to delete the recovery partition and access the data, or failing that how can I access this data. I have windows 8 op system.

Answer:windows8 created recovery partition on external hard drive in error

You can turn off the Drive for recovery, this will then not take up no space on the drive other than the Recovery folder. this should not be deleted. Recovery only needs to be left on for the drive with the OS on it, Normally C:\

Recently my Storage drive (drive D:\) has stopped working properly. Windows will recognize the drive, BIOS will recognize the drive, but when I try to open a folder on the drive in Windows the system will freeze. When I try and copy files through cmd, I get 'Data Error: Cyclic Redundancy Check.' I was able to recover some data using GetDataBack, but there is still some important documents I'm trying to recover. Any suggestions? I've also tried Norton Ghost 9.0 to make an image of the drive, but it errors out and gives me a cyclic redundancy check message. Is there any way to repair/recover the rest of my data? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Answer:CRC Error - Hard Drive Not Working - Help!

Doesn't sound good, a CRC is actually a surface damage on your hard disk, compare this say to a scratched CD. Any data in that area is surely lost unless your willing to pay megabucks for a specialist to forensically find the data. I haven't found any software yet which will deal with such a scenario but maybe someone out there knows better, don't hold your breath though, and sorry if I snatched away your last straw.

I'm a bit confused about the process you are using and what you are trying to do. If I understand you, you currently have a working 500gb hdd with the operating system, your programs and your data. You want to move your operating system to the mSATA drive and have your computer boot from have made a set of recovery disks using the Lenovo program. This is intended to restore your system to its original state (no data or extra programs)Here are a couple of options You can create a "backup and recovery" set of DVD's using the Windows built in programs (click the 'Start' button, then type 'backup' into the search box at the bottom) that will back up all of your system (OS, programs, data, setting etc.)Use a stand alone program like Acronis to create a clone of your current diskThereafter Remove your current 500gb drive from your machineInstall the mSATA driveRestore whatever image you want (the Lenovo recovery, the Windows restore or the Acronis [or whatever program you used] image)Reinstall your 500gb hdd and rename that drive to a letter other than 'C'

Hey everyone. I'm having a problem installing my recovery disc onto my new hard drive. Here's some info. I have an HP Pavilion Notebook, model dv6807us, with Windows Vista Home Premium. I started having hard drive issues, so I bought a new hard drive. Well, before the hard drive went out, I was having issues with the DVD drive. The drive was not being detected, and was not showing up in My Computer, nor was is showing up in the device manager. I talked to someone with HP support and they told me that I could order the HP recovery discs, and it will install Windows Vista onto my new hard drive. However, I was not having the DVD drive issues at this time. My hard drive ended up completely going out, so I was worried that I might have a problem installing the recovery discs with the DVD drive issues that I was having. Today, I installed the new hard drive, turned on the computer, chose to boot from the DVD drive, and inserted recovery disc 1, and all it says is "operating system not found". No matter what I try, I cannot get the recovery disc to start up. The DVD drive is powering up because the green light is coming on and it ejects, but it just wont start the recovery disc. Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

My hard drive went bad so I recently put in a new hard drive in my Compaq Presario SR2020NX computer. I also got recovery disc from HP to put the windows XP media center system back on the hard drive but am having problems. After running the recovery disc for about a hour I get a message that says "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. check your hard drive to make sure it is properly confirgured and terminated. run chkdsk/f to check for had dirve corruption, and then restart your computer." I have had the hard drive checked to make sure there is nothing wrong with it. My other concern is it is not exactly the same hard drive that came out of it, does that make a difference? It is a western digital Caviar A8MZN-LA with 250 GB but it was a Seagate A8M2N-LA 160 GB.

You might want to check and give us the model numbers right off the labels attached the drives. As far as I can tell, an "A8MZN-LA" model number is for an Asus motherboard.

My Satellite Pro M40 hard disk has died and I want to install a new drive. Unfortunately my old drive is 60Gig and the Toshiba parts website has only 40 Gig or 80 Gig drives.

Will I encounter any problems with the recovery disc if the hard drive is not exactly the same?

Your advice would be appreciated.

Answer:Satellite Pro M40 hard drive failure - Recovery disc on new drive?

No, there shouldn?t be any problem with the Toshiba recovery CD.

On the recovery CD you will find a Windows OS, Toshiba drivers and utilities and additional software.
These whole applications are packed in image files.

You should only be sure that the HDD is compatible with your notebook and will be recognized in the BIOS.
Then just simply boot from the recovery CD and the installation should start.

I recently used the "clean" command in diskpart on both the hdd and the ssd and then inserted my factory recovery disks. The disks load fine. The recovery install competes without error. Once complete it gives option to reboot or shutdown. Once computer is restarted i have an error about missing the "winload.exe" file.Shouldn't the factory recovery disk install everything needed? Or does one key recovery not fully install everything? Is this a partitioning issue?Any help is appreciated.Thank you!!

1.I have a Medion p4101D and have replaced my faulty hard drive with a direct Western Digital replacement.
2. I have run the Recovery Disc (Medion AG) and have Windows 7 Home premium OK.
3.I also have an Application & Support-Disc which has the following folders on it:
Boot, Drivers, PE , Tools,
I have no information in my medion instruction manual on how to use either of the discs provided by them!!
My question is should any of these folders be copied to my hard drive?

Answer:Recovery disc for a new replaced hard drive

The Application Support Disk allows you to:-

rebuild start file
rebuild system and driver files
return to shipping status (puts it back to how it was when you got it including all the preinstalled software you probably never use much of)

However to do his I think you should have two more partitions on the drive "Tools and Recovery"
Best option is what you have already done in installing W7 - then set up your broad band and e-mail add all you security programs and what ever programs you generally use.
When the machine is as you want it then use the backup facility in W7 to make an image onto DVDs or an external drive so you can get back to that if you need it.

AR.764 US #ABA Window 7 Or 8 Upgraded To Window 10.

Answer:Hard Drive Fail, I Need A Recovery Disc

Hi: If you plan on reinstalling W10 you can do so as follows... You can clean install W10 on your PC as long as it had been previously successfully activated when you upgraded. Use the media creation tool at the link below to make a W10 installation DVD or bootable USB flash drive. When you get to the part where you are asked to input a product key, there will also be a box to check labeled 'I don't have a product key.' You check that box and W10 will install and should automatically reactivate once your PC is connected to the internet. If you want to go back to W7, in the USA/Canada, call HP at this number 1-800-334-5144, and order a set of recovery disks.   Have the model # and serial # of the PC handy to give to the customer services rep.

I made a vista 64 recovery disc and it loads up.. When it does it asks for the Dvd/cd Rom driver.

It lets me serach for it and flash drive is an option and I have one handy, however I can't just find the driver I need and put it on this flash drive for the computer I'm working on.

Hello Everyone, I had to replace my hard drive on my G570, after replacing the hard drive, I used the recovery discs I cretaed on factory default settings of the system. Now, the recovery discs have seem to install the windows and the factory default partitions on my new hard drive, but since then it is stuck on 'Starting WIndows' screen. If I try botting it in safe mode, it boots and but then says that it can't complete the setup in safe mode. Now, is it some problem with the recovery discs or the new hard drive. I'll be most grateful for any help in this regard. Thanks,Haris

Answer:Using one key recovery disc on new hard drive, Lenovo G570

hi HarisM,
Welcome to the Forums.
It's possible that the recovery process didn't completed that's why you're getting the error. Have you tried to use the recovery disc one more time?
Alternatively, if the G570 came with Windows 7 Home Premium, you can re-install Windows by:
1. Downloading a Windows 7 Home Premium copy on this website and burn it on a DVD on another PC.
2. If you have successfully installed Windows, Windows 7 will automatically recognize the product key stored in the BIOS via SLIC. and will automatically activate Windows.
3. If you get problems activating Windows, try to activate by phone.(use the product key on the back of the unit if necessary).
Hope this helps

I want to make a bios disc and I have a bunch of old floppy discs laying around though I'm pretty sure some of them are messed up or what not. Is there a way for me to scan them to see if they are in 100% working order or a way I can make them 100% working order so I can make an error free bios disc?

I mean I just inserted a floppy in the new floppy drive and keep in mind I'm making a bios disc. When I double clicked the floppy drive with the floppy in it. The drive said "The floppy disc is not formatted", and a menu popped up. I understand all of the stuff it says because most cannot be reset such as size, file system, and allocation unit size. But in the bottom of the menu it says format options:

The [ ] represents a check box. Remember I'm going to be using this as a bios disc so what do you all think I should pick? None?

Answer:How can I create an error free floppy disc with the floppy hard drive I bought?

You can use Quick Format. When you run the program to create the BIOS disk it will probably format the disk again before writing the bios files.

Hello, I have a T60p 2.33Ghz T7600 that I sped up by using an SSD drive from OCZ. It has been working great for about a year. All of a sudden, I start getting the infamous HD 2100 error. But here is the good news, because this is an SSD drive, all you do is turn of the notebook and reboot, and everything works. The trouble is, at first it was once a week, now it is after about 30mins. Here is the A/B test: Because my work is so critical, I have 4 identical T60p laptops that I use as spares. One goes down, pull the hard drive, move it to another. I use Acronis to make images of my hard drives. My first thought was the SSD drive was going bad, so I was going to put an image on a regular drive and put that back in the original unit. However, the first A/B test I did was to put the SSD drive in another T60p. Here is what I don't understand: The different T60p has run now with the SSD for about 9 hours with no 2100 error. This experiment makes me believe something on my main board is going bad. The error is not from the hard drive. My hypothesis is that main boards when they fail are damaging the non-SSD hard drives, and the main board is the problem not the drives. Does anyone have any evidence to support or negate this hypothesis? I have tried to find information on what the exact problem is that gives rise to the 2100 error in ThinkPads without success.

On my Acer Laptop (with NO disc drive) I was listening to a song on youtube while playing an online game in another tab. The laptop started to freak out on me and suddenly I heard a loud buzzing sound as the screen froze and the colors started to go crazy. I immediately tried to shut it down as I held the power button off, but it didn't seem to work, although I may have not pushed it down long enough. So I let go of the power button and pushed the battery off of the laptop. Of course it immediately shut off. When I put the battery back in, I went to start the laptop again, only it went to the screen giving me options to start in safe mode, last used start up mode, etc... None of the options have worked. It keeps trying to start up Windows XP, but then it goes straight to the blue screen of "Unmountable Boot Volume." So I'm wondering how to get windows xp from my pc onto a usb drive or something like that so I can fix my laptop. I can't seem to find a clear enough answer online. Please help! Thanks!

Hi: Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to help you with that error. However, if you can still read all 25 characters of the W7 product key on your PC's case, you can make your own plain W7 installation media to reinstall W7. This site claims to have genuine, unadulterated W7 ISO files for download... Click on the link labeled Windows ISO Downloader.exe You can use either the: Win 7 Home/Pro SP1 (as applicable to the product key) or the (Retail version, but the  OEM key on your PC's case will work with it) Win 7 Home/Pro SP1 COEM (as applicable to the product key) (This version would be for what HP would have used--System Builder) N is for European Union (EU) countries. K is for South Korean markets. Then you can use this tool to transfer the file to a 4 GB USB flash drive or a DVD. Then you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support and driver page.

There are a few files that arent copied, but i found a way to possibly fix this on the microsoft website, however it requiers the keyboard to type in a command. My first priority is to get the keyboard working, Ive tried using the usb keyboard and a ps/2 keyboard, no luck.

P.S. Ive run a virus scan, nothing.

Please help. I try to recovery my laptop with the recovery disc and when it looks like its all done at the end it says if failed to complete..
The disc are new and being out of warranty they can't answer my questions or do any trouble shooting on the phone and chatting is just a waste of time..

I am unfamiliar with that error code as it pertains to Microsoft.

I would suggest that you use the recovery partition - press F10 during boot-up.

Hey Guys,

I am attempting to burn a set of recovery discs for my Gateway M-7351U laptop. The first DVD copy does fine, but when I insert another DVD to copy the second disc it will run for about two minutes and then ejects with the error 203 code which says it has failed to copy the second disc. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions on how to correct the problem? Thank you in advance for your help.

Answer:Getting Error 203 when burning Recovery Disc

Hello Mojowon, welgome to the forum.

If you are having problems making the Computer Manufacturer?s Vista Recovery Process/Media, you will have to contact your Computer Manufacturer.

It is their Recovery Process which they have set up, So they can better solve it. Contact your manufacturer support division.

I have a 250GB Hard drive that isn't an external one. It was actually originally in the ps3 but i took it out to fix problems in getting the ps3 to work right (recently it stopped working.) I plugged it into my computer and I can't get it to work. I can't format it because it keeps giving me the cyclic redundancy check error and it's being registered as un formatted space when it should be FAT 32. I really need it to work again. Any help will be great! thank you. I have no idea what to do.

Hi All,

My scenario is complicated. But if someone can suggest something, I owe you the return favor.

I have a micromax canvas laptab LT666W that runs Win 10.

I started getting boot error where in it does not boot

First, I tried with recovery disc which did not work.

Then I downloaded the Win 10 recovery disc from this forum. I was able to load the virtual OS on a flash drive without any issues.

Through file explorer, I was able to access all the 28 GB of data on my Tab's hard drive.

But when I attempt a format, it is not allowing me to do.

When I attempt to wipe drive and create new partition while installing a fresh copy of Win10 it fails.

When I use partition magic using virtual drive, wipe is showing as successful but all the contents come back as if by magic.
I am stuck with this for months. Somebody please help. !!

Answer:Wiped hard drive partitions keep coming back on Win10 Recovery disc

You have to use Diskpart to /clean the drive through Rescue Media.

Or when doing a clean installation of windows 10 > when you get to the partitions screen > delete every partition
and allow windows to install to the unallocated disk space

I have a recovery disc for my laptop that was provided at the time of purchase, and which I've previously used with no problems. However, now when I try to use it I receive an error message that the file setenv.ini cannot be found. I'm not sure why this is as the disc worked perfectly last time!

Thanks for any assistance.

What Satellite L450D do you have exactly?
I?m wondering why you received the recover disk because the notebook?s would not be supplied with the recover disk. The European notebook models are preinstalled with an tool called Toshiba Recovery Media Creator. This allows you to create the recovery disk.

Are you able to recover the notebook using HDD recovery?

My PC keeps getting slower and slower and I want to do a full clean reinstall because I think that will make it fast enough again for me for another few more years.
My PC specs:
-250 GB HD Maxtor 6L250R0
-1 GB memory
-original Windows XP Media Center Edition with SP3

The HD is divided into a C partition of 15 GB with only XP on it, everything else is installed on the D partition. On the new install I would like to make the C partition slightly bigger (25-30 GB).
The only part that has been replaced so far is the power supply block.
So yesterday I put the recovery disc (RD) in the DVD drive and tried to boot from it. After a few seonds in this process I get a BSOD with the following message:STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF7A2A640, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
To protect your PC the setup has been stopped.
If you keep on seeing this message try and do the following:
-check for viruses
-remove any newly installed HDs or controllers
-check HD to make sure it's properly configured and terminated
-run CHKDSK /F to check for HD corruption and restart your PC
I have already done some searching on this type of error and it appears I'm not the only one that has it. Tips to solve this include running the already mentioned CHKDSK /F or /R (both of which I have done already) and changing some BIOS setting about SATA/IDE. I looked into BIOS and as far as I know everything seems to be fine there, but I'm far from expert on this matter. Also I know my PC is completely free of viruses or ... Read more

Answer:Help!! New W530 and I have a recovery disc creation error?

Hello and welcome,
There may be a way to re-enable the recovery creation process.  There was with older machines.  I don't know what the current situation is, but others may chime in.
The best course might be to call support and request the recovery media.  I can't speak for Lenovo, but it's common for them to be sent free in this situation.

Presently i used windows 10 but this is not working properly and now i want to install previous window of 8.1. i have 5 recovery disc of window 8.1 but during installing 8.1 display some data missing or error. I have also recovery drive in my notebook of window 8.1.please tell me how to make recovery disc from recovery drive of win 8.1 again.

Answer:recovery disc error during install window

Hi @vp333 Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. You have several options to restore to Windows 8.1: - use your own working recovery media - you can try to create it if you have the designated app (e.g. HP Recovery Manager) installed already- use HP original recovery media- use the built-in recovery media (if working fine and not corrupted)  Try to the last one first: 1. Please, shutdown the computer using/holding the power button for a few seconds2. Power it back on.2.1 As soon as you press the power-on button, immediately begin hitting the Esc button (like tap-tap-tap).This should open a HP Startup Menu which may look similar to this one 3. Choose F11 for System Recovery options. The computer should boot from it's recovery partition to open you various recovery options. Note, that F11 option will only work if the recovery partition is there (not deleted) and intact. From there, you have prenty of options to choose from. Go to Troubleshoot > please, perform either "Reset this PC" option or start "HP Recovery Manager" (whatever is available for your model). Here are detailed instructions >>  If this does not work, please, let me know.

What you tecno adviser means is to format the drive first, basically wiping it clean. You will lose everything if not backed up.have you looked to see if you have a hidden partition containing a restore/recovery program.Normally tapping F11 or F10 on startup will show the partition if it exists. Also check disc management:Start / Right click my computer / Manage / Disc management look to see if a recovery partition exists.

First of all, sorry about my English, but it's not my native language. About my technical problem is very simple: I am using Toshiba Satellite L300D-13b with Vista 32-bit. I was trying to create a recovery disc by useing Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator, but, when I start the program (Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator) gives me this error:
"Could not find HDD Recovery folder on second drive of the first hard disk. There is no valid HDD Recovery environment on this computer".

How do I create my Recovery Disc?

Answer:Recovery Disc Creator Error - Satellite L300D

New Toshiba notebooks are delivered without recovery CD/DVD and using Toshiba recovery creator tool you must create it alone. Toshiba has delivered notebook with ?factory settings?. that means recovery image is saved on second partition in folder called ?HDDRecovery?.

When you start Toshiba recovery creator tool it hold the data from this folder and burn it on empty media. If this folder is removed or deleted the application says clearly the folder/data is/are missing.
I don't know what you have done in the past but now you will not be Able to create this recovery DVD.

You can order new copy under
Of course it is not for free and you must pay for it.

After reformatting my laptop the toshiba recovery discs will not reload windows because it says i do not have enough room on my hard drive.

The error message is as follows:
There is not enough space on S3A6134D502. You need an additional 2.34 GB to copy these files.
Space free: 1.42 GB
Total size: 1.46 GB

It seems that it created a new partition that makes it not possible to load windows on because the partition is too small.

Answer:Recovery disc error on Satellite A200 - not enough space

Problem is that you have changed ?standard? settings for recovery procedure.
First partition on the HDD is so called ?WinRE? partition and this partition has 1,5 GB capacity.
When you start recovery procedure and just click on OK or NEXT everything will went well.

I presume you have chosen ?Setup? option and there clicked on second option to install OS on existing partition.

What you probably want to do is to install OS on partition C only in hope second or all other partitions will not be deleted or formatted. Right?
I have tested it several times on P200 and A200.

This will not work so only option is to erase whole HDD and before recovery installation starts all existing data and partitions will be deleted and formatted.
So before you start OS installation backup all important data and install OS without changing anything.

Hey Claudiu,

What kind of DVD you are using to create the Toshiba recovery disks? I did also had some problems to create a recovery disk but I changed the media from DVD+R to DVD-R and all was ok!!! I used Verbatim disks for creating because I have really good experience with this kind of disks. Furthermore it seems that TDK disks also work pretty well. Check this!!!

If it doesn?t work check the Toshiba page for a firmware update of your ODD!

I'm trying to use the "Recovery disc creator" to build a recovery disc on a USB stick rather than burn CDs/DVDs (don't have a CD drive available). I believe this is meant to be feasible, see However the help file (C:/Program Files/Toshiba/TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator/TrdcHelp.html) for "Recovery disc creator" makes no mention of using USB keys.

I have an 8GB USB stick. I've tried formating it as FAT32 and NTFS.

When I try to open the "Recovery disc creator" program I get a window saying "Another application is using this drive or no recordable drives are recognised on your PC. Please check the drive condition." So I can't start the program Version of "Recovery disc creator" is

Have I formatted the USB key incorrectly? Does it need to be formatted as DOS start up, if so which are the files I should point it at? Do I need a newer version of "Recovery disc creator" to do this with USBs - if so can someone suggest a link of where to find? I could only find a link to version here;pf=true

Am I incorrect in assuming I can use a USB stick? Its a NB200-10Z with XP SP3.
Auggestions or links to other forum posts much appreciated. Apologies if I missed a previous thread covering this!

Answer:NB200-10Z - Error when opening recovery disc creator

The recovery files can be created on an USB stick too but if you can?t start the recovery media creator due an error message it has nothing to do with your USB stick.

I read the other forum post that you mentioned and the guy has disabled his security software (antivirus and firewall). Have you tried the same? Some security programs block certain programs so disable the software and try it again.

Recovery disk creator can?t be downloaded but what you can do if it still doesn?t work is doing a HDD recovery installation. This will restore pretested factory settings and then you can try again creating the recovery USB stick. :)

Aleisha .. oh yeah I also took a photo of the AI screen message . just in case

Answer:BootMgr compressed error , now recovery disc is incorrect ?! help pls

I have only seen "BOOTMGR" compressed error screen when a user applies NTFS compression on " C" drive while the "C" drive serves both as "System" and "Boot" partition. That is if there is no "System Reserved" partition on the system, "C" drive will be the active on partition and all booting related files including "bootmgr" will be saved on "C" by default. In that situation, compressing "C" in turn will compress "Bootmgr" also but the boot loader code on the boot sector is not capable of performing complex operations like NTFS decompression and hence will display an error message if compression is detected.

The easiest way to fix this is to boot from a "System Repair" disc or "Windows Install Disc" and use the "Compact" command to decompress the "Active" volume. You can create a "System Repair" disc from any working Win7 installed machine.

I've got an Equium L20 laptop and whats happened is, during a product recovey, it gets to about 25% then beeps an error at me and stops working.

Now when i turn the laptop on i get the Toshiba screen, then nothing.
I've been advised that my disc is probably broken and i now have no operating system but im a complete computer novice so don't know how right this is.

I took the laptop to PC world a few years ago and they run a product recovery but i didn't take my disc so what i want to know is, is there a way to run the recovery without the disc?
(i just seem to remember his pressing a few buttons)

If so how?
And if not does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can restore the computer?

thanks in advance

Answer:Equium L20 - Cannot finish the recovery procedure - disc error

> ?during a product recovery, it gets to about 25% then beeps an error at me and stops working.

As you mentioned, possibly the Recovery disk is faulty, scratched or similar? this might be the reason why the CD/DVD drive is not able to read from the disk and the installation breaks up.

You cannot recover this notebook without the Recovery disk! This is an older notebook series and it does not support the HDD recovery procedure like the other newer notebooks do.

So you have only two possibilities to install the Windows OS; either you would use the Toshiba recovery disk (which seems to be broken) or you would install the OS using the Microsoft Windows XP disk.

If you would install the OS using the original MS disk then you would need to install the Toshiba drivers which are placed on the Toshiba European driver page (look into the Archive)!

PS: maybe you could try to burn (copy) the Recovery disk using another computer.
In some cases different drives are able to read ?scratched? disks.
If you would be successful and if you would be able to copy the recovery disk then you could use the new disk in order to restore the OS on your Equium notebook.

Hi everbody,
I have purchased a Lenovo Thinkpad T430.
This laptop came with pre-installed Windows 7 Pro.
However I want to use Windows 8 which I have a recovery disc for.
I built in a SSD instead of the optical drive. So I donīt have a optical drive.
On this SSD I want to run my OS.
With a software from Samsung (manufacturer of my SSD) I was able to copy the Windows7 OS on my SSD.
As I mentioned above I bought a laptop with installed windows 7 pro and a Windows 8 upgrade disc.
Therefore I got the "Operating System Recovery Dis Windows 8 Pro. (OEM Activation 3.0 Required)".
The problem now is that I have an upgrade disc but no optical drive.
So I created an image of the upgrade disc and with this image I have created a bootable USB stick with the following program:
When I boot my laptop using the bootable USB stick everything seems to be working until to the point where I have to accept the EULA.
So I chose a  language, and clicked on "I accept the agreements".
When I want to click on "next" I got a error message "recovery failed".
Please have a look on the following picture taken with my smartphone.
The language used in this picture is german as i live in Austria.

Do you know how I can upgrade to Windows 8?
Can you tell me why the upgrade disc is not working?

Answer:Windows 8 Recovery Disc not working

Welcome to the forum! From your description I don't understand if you have a Recovery Disk of a Windows 8 installation or an Upgrade Disk of Windows 8. In any case, you should try installing your SSD to the Hard disk compartment and reinstall temporarily the DVD in its place. This should remove some ambivalence  as to what might be causing your trouble. So this should be your first step. If you have an upgrade disk, you can upgrade your installation of Win 7 with it or clean install Win 8. If you have a Recovery disk then you could try formatting your SSD prior to applying the recovery. Maybe you should also play with the "Secure Boot" option in your BIOS, see if it changes anything...

Answer:hard disc error

hi, welcome to this forum.
You do have a problem - your hard drive is failing. You need to back up your files immediately and replace the hard drive. If you have an external drive, back up to that.If you don't have an external drive, remove this drive until you get get a new drive. Once you have the new drive installed and loaded with the OS, hook up the old drive as a secondary drive and back up your files to the new drive. Or you can use an external enclosure to connect the old drive to the computer, but unless you have one lying around it's an unnecessary expense. Also, check the type of connection your hard drive uses before ordering a new one - SATA (most likely) or EIDE. SATA uses a narrow cable, EIDE uses a wide ribbon cable.
Check the manufacturers website to see if your drive is still under warranty. If it is you can get a free replacement.
(if I'm reading this correctly you have one drive with many partitions, is that correct? )

I have tried to create my recovery discs on my new L300 laptop. Whilst creating the disc i get the following error:
Failed to read the following file F:\ZZImg|09115XSP.swm (Error code: 020150-20-00000000).

Anyone know what this means, and how to fix this problem? I have a very basic knowledge of IT and haven't got a clue how to sort this out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Answer:Re: Error message while creating recovery disc on a satellite L300

Hi mate

Yes, I know this error?
It appears because of usage not fully compatible disks?
I had the similar issue and could solve this using another DVD from another manufacturer.

Check this? it will help your too..

I bought the new Satellite A300-1MC laptop but I was without recovery disc, so now I am trying to make recovery disk but its show me then following error:

A power calibration area error occurred
error code: 0E01B5 - 26 - 00037304

I tried 4, 5 times and used the NEW Disc but still show me the above problem.
Will be thankful for you answer.

Answer:Cannot create recovery disc - error code: 0E01B5-26-00037304

I believe Power Calibration means that the laser has trouble calibrating to the disc. This often happens when the Disc is cheap and has inferior Dye.

Try a good quality brand of disc, such as Taiyo Yuden, Mitsubishi, Verbatim, TDK. Use the DVD-R variant rather than DVD+R.

Hi, I have an SL400 I want to reformat and sell. It has XP Pro sp3 installed on it from the factory. The recovery discs it came with are for Vista business. There are 3 discs for the recovery one is labeled start recovery, the next is the operating system disc (Vista Business), and the third is the drivers. When I boot to disc 1, it launches the recovery software. Then it tells me to put recovery disc 1 in the D: drive and click yes. The disc is already in there. When I click Yes, a dialog popup tells me it is the wrong disc. How do I get it to work? Thank you,Scott

Answer:Recovery disc error message? Trying to reformat SL400 to sell

Click No and it will ask for the first recovery disc again. If you look it's probably asking if you have a supplementary disck or another type of disk which you don't have, that's why you should click on No.
Hope this helps

Almost weekly, I receive a pop-up error message stating I have low disk space on recovery D: pops up automatically.  My D: drive isn't my CD/DVD player....that's on drive E:.  I haven't put anything on drive D: and don't know how.    I haven't created a recovery disk yet. I looked at what is on my drive D: and it is a bunch of AutoSave documents.  Not sure what they are or how they got there.  I've seen a lot of videos on YouTube that provide instructions on how to delete files....I'm not techy and nervous about doing that. Does anyone have advice on how I can make this error message go away and how I can prevent files from going there to make it full going forward?  I have 800 GB free space on my C: drive. Thank you in advance.

Answer:Low Disk Space on Recovery Drive D: Error Message - Windows ...

The error message is being caused by something simple.  The system protection for the D: partition is set to enabled.   That needs to be changed  to disable and the autosave files deleted to stop the error message. Files should never be saved to partition D:.  See the following video from YouTube. The video is OK. You can turn off the music.

Hi everyone, I have a working Thinkpad T61P Type: 6459 CTO. I want to install Windows 7 on this OCZ SSD drive but when I start the computer I get the error above. I tried this with the original BIOS version and with the upgraded version (2.26-1.08). I also tried upgrading the HD Firmware with this and this upgrade, but it didn't detect any upgradeable HDs. The original HD works fine and the SSD drive works perfect if I use it as USB. The SSD drive is also formatted. I'm clueless as what to do next. Any ideas, suggestions? Thanks...

The story begins yesterday (around 2 pm) after my screens just went black. I sat there for a while and waited before just turning the computer off and restarting it. It booted back up just fine and so i decided to run my AVG PC tune up to check for any errors, and it came back with "You have not run DSKCHK in over 5 months." So through AVG PC Tune Up I selected thorough scan and hit OK. It told me i needed to restart the computer to begin the test so i hit OK to restart, but it didnt. I proceeded to put my computer into Turbo mode for no real reason what so ever, and then i restarted the computer. It booted up into the DSKCHK scan and i let it run. It took about an hour and a half and every thing seemed fine. The scan completed and the computer restarted into this error:
"Boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible."
Please insert windows recovery disk and click to allow windows to repair errors.
Error 0xc000000f

So after a several minutes of trying to get the disk to be read i finally got the windows repair in and doing its thing.

In the mean time i was looking up other solutions/watching youtube and after about 4 hours of the screen saying "Attempting repairs" I looked up how long it should take and then i got frustrated and shut down the computer. After that I surfed forums for hours trying to figure out how to get the data off the hard drive, none were a success but i learned about Hirens boot and got it. Its k... Read more

I don't see anything in there about creating a System Image on a portable external HDD or SSD. Everyone learns this the hard way.

OK. Did you try doing a system restore to an earlier time before these errors occurred? You would do this by using your Windows Repair Disk which you created soon after you purchased your new computer.
