Scrollbar erratic

Question: Scrollbar erratic

I am having a problem with my scrollbar jumping up and down, whether it's on the web or any program I have running. If there is a scroll bar in the window, it will jump up and down or jump all the way to the bottom the the screen and stay there. This will also happen even if I take my hand off the mouse and not touch it for a while. The mouse I am using is what came with the computer. It is not a wireless mouse. It seems that the scroll wheel will seldom work when the screen is jumping. I purchased Microsoft's Windows Live OneCare to try and take care of the problem. I thought it could be a virus or spyware causing this issue but the program has found nothing. I tried sevel freeware programs on the net to detect a virus or spyware also and they found nothing. I purchased adaware also since i heard good things about it, but it has found nothing. I am using a Dimension 2400 with celeron processor and the windows is XP. I tried looking on the web for threads relating to this topic but have found none. Can someone help!?

Preferred Solution: Scrollbar erratic

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an add on, called Bookmarks scrollbar 1.1.0 But when I go to drag the scrollbar box whole bookmarks menu closes. I have no problem clicking anywhere on the bar, and my box will jump to that spot, but can't drag the box.

Answer:Anyone know how to solve the scrollbar problem with the firefox bookmarks scrollbar?

If you're using the latest version of Firefox, the Bookmarks Scrollbar addon is no longer compatible.

It was last updated in July 2009 and only works in Firefox 1.5-3.0. The latest version is 3.6

Question: Xp Scrollbar

Hi! In Windows XP, the Scrollbar is a light blue and I want to change the color, so it is easier to see over anything else on the screen. In the Control Panel, Display, under Appearances, I have the option under Advanced to change the size of the scrollbar, but the option to change its color is greyed out. Can this be changed, without finding some theme that has a better color for the scrollbar? I don't really want anything else changed anyways, just that baby blue is buggin me! Thanks for the help!!

Question: FireFox Scrollbar

Do any of you FireFox pros know how to increase the size of the scrollbar in FF2? I have tried several skins, used the setting in display properties (that only seems to effect IE) and it's still not much more than a thin line. Using the Ctrl+ increases text size but that little scroll bar never changes. More of an annoyance than anything.. Thanks

Answer:FireFox Scrollbar

Don't know but I just typed in about:config and then typed in scroll in the filter box and it had a smaller list of things with scroll in the names.

But if what you want is listed there or not I don't know or do I know how to change it.

Answer:My oh so slow scrollbar

Hope I can help.

Well i'm no computer genius but.. i've had this problem before. Do you also have problems when typing in passwords and such, and having slow typing. I found that I got hijacked, and it changed my user stylesheet to tips.ini or something along that line. Try this.

Tools/ Internet Options/ General and accessibility. It should say. webview.css. At least it is on my computer. Win ME. to change it back to webview.css. Click Browse. in your windows folder select webview.css adn open it. Another thing to try is a free program called Coolweb Shredder. It's great, and helps rid of the coolweb hijack. and also clears any changed stylesheet.

Like i said i'm not a computer wiz. But this is what worked for me, after searching and searching with no end.

Lolli.... good luck... pleases post back and let us know if it worked.

Question: Scrollbar Troubles

Hello, well, I accidentally changed my DPI settings and now, after having changed it back to the regular settings, my scrollbars are twice as big as they normally are. How can I fix this problem? Also, the desktop icons are very spaced apart and I cannot get them close together again...

Answer:Scrollbar Troubles

Right click on your desktop. Properties, Appearance Tab. Under "item", just select what feature you want to change, and change it :) There will be scrollbar, and icon spacing both horizontal and vertical. Change them to your liking, apply and you're done :)

Question: missing scrollbar

Firefox vs: 2.0.0.12The scrollbar is missing. It was there one day and gone the next. Did nothing more than shut down my laptop ( Gateway XP AMD Athlon 64, 1 gig ram, 90 gig HD ) and restart it a few hours later.i know that listing all of the particulars of the computer where the problem exists is recommended and i am making a copy in word pad after i post this here now. But another question is why is so much information necessary to figure out why a scrollbar is missing? Does, make, model, hd size, ram size, sound card, graphic card, etc etc etc matter on certain problems?Os seems to make sense and chip set makes sense, but some of the other things puzzle me.Thanks, BTW i can not see what i am typing now because it is below my field of view and using the up/down arrorrow must be extending the typing area...hopefully hitting enter will post this question. Thanks

Try creating a new Firefox profile. If the scrollbar reappear we now it is a profile settings that's been messed up.

Question: Scrollbar Freeze

Every time I click on a gray scrollbar and drag to scroll, Windows 7 freezes. I notice this most in explorer (first happened in control panel), and it seemed to be just a problem with any scrollbar in explorer, but then it happened in OpenOffice too. In Firefox however, there doesn't seem to be a problem. I have just installed Windows 7 RC (32-bit) on my brand new computer, so surely not a virus/malware issue. All drivers up to date. My Mobo (see below) has f4a BIOS.

I'm able to reset or hard shutdown. Cannot Ctrl+Alt+Del.

Couldn't find an easy answer to this until I looked in what I had already installed. Tune-up Utilities 2010. The latest update allows you to change visual styles in just a few clicks and I couldn't be happier. My scrollbars are now black with rounded corners, black and other colors and design elements all over the old Windows UI. Just what the doctor ordered!

was to wonder why you want the text to be in a table cell in the first place - it's a slight irritation to have to scroll to read. It might look far better just laid out as text on the page in the first place, especially as there's not much of it.Anyway, in answer to your question click here

I can not see the whole page on some websites while using firefox. How do I get a horizontal scroll bar... Thank you!

Answer:I want a horizontal scrollbar, how do I get it?

Add the below code to your userContent.css file, which is located here:

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\*.profilename\chrome

If you haven't created a userContent.css file, then you can add the below code to the userContent-example.css file.
Open the file using WordPad or Notepad.
Leave at least one line at the end of the userContent-example.css file
Add the code
You can simply copy the below code, and paste it in the userContent-example.css file.
Save the file as: userContent.css

Code:
html {
overflow:-moz-scrollbars-horizontal;
}
I wonder if the size of your fonts might be preventing the viewing of the horizontal scroll bar?

I run Windows XP (with SP2) and I use Microsoft Outlook for my diary BUT I use it as Schedule+ (because I've used it for years and the presentation suits me better than Outlook).A short while ago something happened (not when I loaded SP2) and the vertical scrollbar on the 'Contacts' window disappeared, so I can only scroll by the page up/down keys, or the arrow keys. Hey, i'm not on xp so i apologise if any of this is incorrect (i cannot refer to the interface myself but i will give you the gist of it and you should be able to work it out)...

Okay, from memory i believe this is the way to change scrollbars etc.:

Code:
- Right click the desktop
- Click properties (the same one as you would use to change the background image)
- Click the Apearance tab
- Click the "Advanced" button
- In the Item dropdown chose the item to change (scrollbar)
- In the boxes to the right choose the color
- Click "Ok"
Theres more info on these here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...lize/look.mspx

You could also take a look at high contrast themes, on which there is information here:

Not 100% sure how to desribe and not sure if it is an internal issue or a mouse issue. But I operate off of xp and when I open a folder and have the option to scroll through files the window will automatically scroll to the bottom and when I scroll back up and let go of the mouse it will drop again. The only way to get to certain files is to click on the only file I can and use arrow keys. Let me know if more information is needed from me. Please post a screenshot of this.

How to make a screenshot

1. Download and run A Thousand Words .

2. Follow the wizard to capture a screenshot

3. Use the built-in editor to resize, edit, or re-capture your screen shot.

4. Your screen shot will be saved to your desktop when you finish the wizard.

You can post the screenshot in your next post as an attachment.

Just below the area where you write text in a post there is the Post button, to the right of this is More Reply Options.

Old hand at XP. Forced into Windows 7. Stranger in a strange land.

In XP, to modify width of scrollbar, you would left click in desktop.
A menu called Display Properties would appear.
You would click on Appearance tab, then Advanced tab.
Click on Items, then Scrollbar on the drop down.
Then you could input a size number. The default was something like 16, and I'd always increase it to 23.
This gave me a good wide scrollbar that a frenetic mouse cursor would not easily miss.

In Windows 7, I cannot find anything like a Display Properties menu.
Cannot find anything about Appearance.
Cannot find anything about Scrollbar.

Hello and thank you for any help given.
We are cross-browser testing on a site (ess .la/v5) and have a glitch that seems to only show up in IE8, possibly only with the XP OS... but that is what our client is using (btw, 1024x768) , so we have to try to solve it.
The browser's vertical scroll bar is MIA... I have tried checking the css rules, but can't seem to make the right change.
Again, we do get the vertical scroll bar in IE9 and all of the other browsers... but not in IE8... here's a link to a longer (temporary) order form ess .la/v5/orderform.php (there should NOT be a space after "ess" but I'm not able to post urls yet... the client needs to be able to scroll to see the whole thing and he has no scroll bar, unless he switches to Chrome, etc.
THANK you!

How do i remove this scroll bar from Runescape, it flashes my screen when my mouse hovers over it. Its annoying.I use Firefox, Vista 32Bit if that helps.I've asked people they dont have the scrollbar. Only me..I can't block the advert on top as it's against Runescape rules.

Answer:Removing a ScrollBar on Firefox

The reason you have scroll bars is the page doesn't fit your screen size. You will need to resize the page so it fits without scroll bars.

Hi again Forum,
The vertical scrollbar on my daughter's MESH MATRIX INSPIRE 2006 computer suddenly started playing up. Every time you start any software the slider on it stay at the bottom, instead of starting at the top. If you try to scroll up by dragging it with the mouse it just flips down to the bottom again, making seeing or working on the top part of the screen impossible. This problem is on everything from Windows XP programmes, to Internet Explorer, to MSN etc.

This computer is running OEM Windows XP with SP2, 2006 build with AMD 64 bit 3500 2.2 GHz processor and only only 512 Mb of DDR2 memory.

I done a full system restore last night on this computer for the first time, using the MESH recovery CD and was surprised when this problem is still there. I looked in Device Manager and I have 4 yellow question marks, so drivers not installed. These are for: PCI Device, SM BUS Controller, Unknown Device and Video Contoller.

I have loooked on the disc that came with the computer and it only seems to have SCSI Drivers on it.
I know I have a driver problem but can missing drivers cause this effect to a vertical scollbar or is this a virus infection too?

Answer:vertical scrollbar will not scroll

I have used the textarea tag to provide my site with a text box that displays javascripted text when the user moves the cursor over an separate image. This works fine. The only problem that i am unable to resolve is the removal of the scrollbar that comes 'by default' with the textarea tag. I cannot use the textfield tag because this only allows the text to be displayed on one line, and I need it to be displayed in a box. If it is not possible to remove the scrollbar from the textarea tag, I am happy to display the text another way. Unfortunately the site is not live yet, so it isn't possible to see the 'face' of the site. However, the relevant code is below. Answer:Possible to remove scrollbar from textarea tag?

I managed to find a way to do the above (it didn't take over a month though - been on long holiday!)If anyone has the same prob, heres one way round it -Use style sheet positioning, and use the clip element. This 'covers-up' what it is you do not want your viewers to see, in my case the scroll-bar which could not be removed from the textarea tag. The code is put between the style tags int the head element, and must therefore correspond to the relevant tag in the body of the page i.e. <head><style> textarea {clip:auto; overflow:hidden} </style></head><body><textarea type="text"...</textarea></body>

Hey all, new to the forum and I have a question.

Not that it's destroying my laptop but everytime I tap the top of the scroller on my laptop it minimizes my browser. This just gets so inconvenient when I'm trying to click a link and I accidentally click on the scroller and my browser minimizes.

I'm sure it's something simple but Google has yielded zero results. Anyone have an idea how to stop this from happening?

The way the HTML has been written or generated, its not exactly easy to fix. Basically the page has been written so its always approximately 1100px wide, so anyone not using a resolution wider than that will get the vertical scroll bar.I'm at a loss as to what to suggest, since I'm used to writing HTML, and don't really have any experience of using a webpage generator. I suggest you let people know what you used to create the site, and people familiar with the tool will undoubtly be able to suggest more specific help.

Every so often my scroll bar goes haywire, usually when I am in either Outlook Express or IE: the cursor tears down to the bottom of the window accompanied by an audio clicking sound. It is then impossible to return to the top of a page or read any other message until I have rebooted. Can anyone shed light on and solve this for me, please ?

Hi,

I just got computer back from repairs yesterday. They had taken away the CPU. Now, while working in Windows XP, I find that the scrollbar sometimes jumps around randomly. Sometimes it just goes to the bottom and refuses to budge. I don't have any spare mouse lying around, so I decided to clean both the keyboard and the mouse (unearthed a lot of dust; but that's another story), but that didn't solve the problem. I have an Ubuntu Live CD as well as copy of Windows 7. I ran both of them, and found that the problem was there in Linux, but it was almost non-existent in Windows 7.

What I am asking is, could it be a virus? Can anybody help me out?

Thanks.

Now that we know your system is clean, we want to purge any potentially infected restore points. To do that, complete the following:

1: Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel and double-click on the System icon.
2: On the Performance tab click File System.
3: Click the Troubleshooting tab, and then check 'Disable System Restore'. Click OK. Click Yes when you are prompted to restart Windows.
4:You may enable System Restore again by following the same steps as above except you should uncheck 'Disable System Restore'.

Hi all.
I am having an issue with the touchpad on my Inspiron 3520.
The issue is this:
When I use the scrollbar to scroll down a page, for example a website or list of documents, it (the scrollbar) 'jumps' back to the top of the page when I move the cursor away to click on a link or document. So say for example I do a Google search on 'Dell' because I'm looking for 'Dell support', I will left-click on the scrollbar and scroll down the results page using the touchpad until I see the 'Dell support' link, which is about halfway down the results page. Now, when I move the cursor off the scrollbar and move it toward the link (or document) the scrollbar will 'jump' back to the top of the results page (or list of documents). It's the same in any window I open with a scrollbar so it's not just an issue with web browsing.
Attempted resolutions:
So far I have updated all Windows updates and have uninstalled the touchpad driver and installed the latest driver through the My Dell portal. I've done a hardware scan, again with My Dell, and a full anti-virus scan, and various command prompt scans to check for potential malware and/or hardware issues, and I've run MS Fix It. Everything comes back clean. I have also checked the touchpad's settings to ensure they haven't somehow changed from where the were before the issue started. They are as they were.
Any ideas on this guys? I've spent hour upon hour trying to resolve it!
Many thanks

Answer:Scrollbar 'jumping' with Windows 8 & 8.1.

"Now, when I move the cursor off the scrollbar and move it toward the link (or document) the scrollbar will 'jump' back to the top of the results page..."
Do you think that you may be inadvertently brushing the trackpad with your hand or wrist? If you're sure that's not what's happening then perhaps it's a "characteristic" of the trackpad so go to Control Panel -> Mouse and go into the trackpad settings. Turn off all the "special" features, especially those that control scrolling. I helped a chap a while back with a similar problem to yours and those tweaks worked for him.

Hi there,

I am brand new to using frames, I am using frontpage. (so I hope this question is in the right forum) My site is http://www.shopathomemom.com/

I know how to turn off the scrolling option for each frame. But what happened to the 'main' scroller that is always on the right side of a website? I want that scroller back and cannot figure it out. Is that possible with frontpage? Right now the right scroller i have up just moves the right side of my right side frame. I want the scroller back that moves the whole page up and down. If you see my page you can see the left side needs more room to be seen, I have a 3 frame sections left, center, and right and 3 scroll bars would look awful.

If not, how do I make the frame height longer so all the page shows? I'm not seeing all my content, but I don't want those left sided scrollbars up.

Thanks,
Christina

Is there a way to change the scrollbar colours for all windows in XP Pro?

I have a vision problem that causes blurring at the far right of my field of view. It's normally not a problem, but with the grey on grey colour of the scrollbars, I have a hard time finding it without looking over to the right. I'd like to change the thumb to a dark colour (or the scrollbar background to a contrasting colour) so I can see the thumb position with averted vision (like I used to).

It seems that you can do it with themes, but I can't see how to modify a theme file to do it. Google searches seem to point to lots of theme files, but no theme "coding" instructions. The Accessibility options for visual problems only offer a gaudy high-contrast theme. I only need to change the right scrollbar (if the bottom scrollbar changes as a result, I don't care).

Answer:Changing scrollbar colours in XP Pro

I only know the scroll bar will change color if you change your 3D button's color in the appearance section.

I have searched everywhere and have not found any reference to my particular problem. It has happened on the last two laptops I have had and this one is brand new so it's not the computer. When I browse the internet or look in my photo files [I have a ton
of photos], I use the touchpad and put the cursor in the scrollbar under the 'marker' [can;t think of the name] and each time I click it is supposed to move one page down. Inevitably on one of the clicks [doesn't seem to be the same one each time] the window
jumps several pages down instead of just one. Same thing if I am going back up to the top. It's a little like the hyperspace mode in Asteroids, I never know where I am going to wind up. Page down or up doesn't do this. Also happens if I tap on the arrow under
or over the scrollbar. I ahve tried just about every setting I know to change and it still happens. I am baffled....am I the only one who has this problem? Is there any way to change it?
Thanks!

Answer:Horizontal scrollbar in metro

I'm not sure if that is possible.
In the past, I've removed many of the useless shortcuts to another folder eliminating the clutter on that screen and thus disabling the scroll bar from appearing.
(Your screen orientation seems to be 'portrait' mode which will reveal the bar prematurely)

While using Excel, the arrows are now just moving the scrollbar, instead of moving to the desired cell.
i.e. If I press the down arrow, the page will start scrolling downward, while the cell that I am in will still remain highlighted. Usually, the cell underneath will become highlighted. I checked the Tools > Options, but didn't find anything.

I am not sure how to describe this other than to say the problem is driving me nuts! When I click the up or down arrow on the scrollbar to the right (the vertical scroll bar) to move up or down the pages when I am in IE8, the web pages kind of 'wipes' and appears to refresh each and every time I click. This is NOT happening in Firefox. Where is the setting to stop this? I have looked at mouse settings (obviously it's not that since the mouse clicks work fine when I am using the FF browswer). I have looked all over in Tools/Options while in IE8 and disabled 'meta refresh' thinking that would stop it. It does not. It almost seems like it's a 'special effect'. If I grab the bar and scroll down continuously, then the pages just 'wipe' and refresh faster. it's not a smooth scroll where the content stays in one place while the pages moves. This is the content shifting and moving at the same time the pages is moving. It's pretty much rendering use of IE8 non-functional. Which is a problem, as I need to use it for certain Windows maintenance tasks. Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi everyone,

Spent months writing a website (xhtml and css/divs)

The whole website works fine on IE and Safari.

However on Firefox, when the page is too long for the screen in height, the scrollbar on the right shows as normal. When the scrollbar shows it pushes the website in, which I do not want.

I would like the webpage to be centered at all times, with or without the scrollbar present.

Any ideas how to resolve this issue?

Many Thanks

Answer:Firefox scrollbar changes webpage position

Code:

/*this is to keep page from shifting to left on load in safari and firefox*/
html { min-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 1px; }
html { overflow: -moz-scrollbars-vertical !important; }

Apparently this is a known issue in Firefox.

..also known as scrollbar page shifting.

This peice of code works, by always keeping the scrollbar there. (Guess it's a work around)

I have a friend of mine who has been having quite a bit of trouble with her computer. A little background information, it has windows 10 and I have already had it scanned for spyware and malware using Advance System cares anti-malware and malwarebytes. I have also already had her update the drivers on her mouse and had her activate the deactivated Enhanced Pointer Precision option and then deactivate it after it didn't fix the problem to see if that would fix it. It didn't. Now for the problem: Any time she opens up anything with a scroll bar (webpages, windows explorer ect. ) the scroll bar will automatically go to where her mouse is pointing without her clicking on it. This is quite irritating especially when she isn't trying to scroll down and her mouse just goes over the scroll bar. Any suggestions on fixes?

I've never really had a problem with my mouse not allowing me to scroll with the side of it, because I didn't know that it could previously. However, I've been playing with Backtrack, Ubuntu, and a few other Linux based operating systems and I noticed that it would scroll properly. I recently upgraded to Windows 8 and I want to know if there's a way to fix it to scroll from my mouse touchpad. I've already used a driver checker to make sure all of my drives are updated and it says they all are, but is there some other driver software I should use? I've also already gone to my mouse settings to look for an option to allow mouse pad scrolling, but there wasn't that configuration.
Here's my system info, in case you need it:

OS Version: Microsoft Windows 8 Release Preview, 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU M 350 @ 2.27GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 37 Stepping 2
Processor Count: 4
RAM: 3758 Mb
Graphics Card: Intel(R) HD Graphics (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1), 1751 Mb
Hard Drives: C: Total - 476586 MB, Free - 429100 MB;
Motherboard: Sony Corporation, VAIO
Antivirus: Windows Defender, Disabled

Answer:Solved: Mouse scrollbar not working

Look for a touchpad driver on Sony's website. If you need help with that tell us what model Vaio it is.

I wouldn't trust a driver updater program, they aren't very reliable.

I also have Norton Internet Security running which doesn't show above. This problem originated in Google Chrome browser when I couldn't access bookmarks I'd made and organized into folders. Then I started having problems with the scrollbar with it sliding back up instead of staying where I put it. In addition when I went into Windows Explorer to do some checking, the same thing happened with that scrollbar. I haven't noticed this with any other program. In passing though I noticed a file folder labeled with a long line of letters and numbers. When I tried to do anything in that folder I kept getting an access denied message. Even to look at a text file. Not sure that has anything to do with the problem I'm having, but finally my storage is almost full. I suppose that's possible with music and games, but thought I'd mention. Below is my HJT log. I couldn't get dds.com to work for me.

A couple more things: not able to scrolldown to the bottom of my HJT log in note ... Read more

Hi folks,I'm looking for a script that will keep the scrollbar on the browser where it is as the user advances to the next page.Anyone any ideas? Thanks.

Answer:Script to maintain scrollbar position

By your brief description, would I be right in guessing that you want visitors to move from a link on one page to a particular section or point on another page? If that's the case, why not just link to an anchor and place that anchor exactly where you want it?

I'm using Windows 7 on an HP Pavilion g7 laptop. For some reason, the scroll-bar changed itself to a very thin scroll bar. So, I went into Windows Color advanced settings and changed it from size 8 to 18 and saved the settings; however, when I come back to my computer the next day, it's setting is reset back to a size 8.

I've checked it with Kabersky's Rescue Disk and MalwareBytes and SuperAntispyware and Hitman Pro 64 and everything is fine.

The settings still change from my new saved settings to the thin scroll bar when I restart my computer.

Any suggestions???

Hi

I'm new here - trying to solve a longstanding prob when dragging the vertical scrollbar. if (while dragging the scrollbar) the mouse pointer strays into the application window, the taskbar and start menu stop responding. They can be re-activated by CTRL+ESC (opening the START menu). Then everything returns to normal until I need to drag the scrollbar again. Happens with all applications which use a scrollbar.

I've searched everywhere but can't find this problem elsewhere.

Any help would be really appreciated because its a real nuisance to have to keep reactivating the taskbar.

Hey everybody,
I noticed this a few days ago, and can't seem to figure out what it is.

There is this one pixel on my desktop that expands to a scrollbar when you mouse over it. My virus scan hasn't picked anything up.

Any Ideas?

I have spent a bunch of time searching the internet and haven't found anything.

I recently did a fresh re-install of XP Pro on my computer at work, which has a 17" LCD monitor. Now I keep getting the horizontal scrollbar in FF on sites and pages where I never got it previously. I can't figure out what's different. Is there any way to get rid of it and force pages to fit in the window?

Thanks,

Hi! When our office laptops were upgraded, our company sold us our old laptops at depreciated cost. Mine was acting perfectly fine until a few weeks ago, when out IT removed my user profile and changed me over to admin. It now starts up with a BIOS lock (asks for a password, but that's fine since IT gave it to me, though I could do without the shrill beeping sound every time I open the laptop).

Anyway, the laptop works fine for a while after startup, but once I start running more programs and open a few tabs in IE or Forefox simultaneously, the cursor and trackpad start acting up. When I open a new page in IE, for example, the cursor automatically scrolls down to the bottom of the page and refuses to scroll back up when I try to do so (it sort of "snaps" back into place a the bottom of the page). The screen also starts to flicker like crazy when this happens. I also have difficulty selecting icons in the control panel because of the same issue. If the icon is arranged in the top array, I can select it but then a few sconds later the cursor moves down to the icon located at the bottom of the same column, so I end up opening the wrong folder etc. I have tried uninstalling the touchpad drivers and reinstalling, but the problem persists. The same problem exhibits even if I plug in a USB mouse.

I am running Windows XP Professional version 2002, SP 3. The laptop is a Toshiba Portege M500 with Intel Core2 CPU [email protected] 1.83 GHz, 0.99 GB RAM. I have Malwarebytes and... Read more

Hi,

Is it possible to change the colour of the scrollbar on an IFRAME document or am I stuck with that dull grey. Any ideas?

regards and thks in advance.

Answer:HTML: IFRAME scrollbar question

You will have to use CSS - remember that this will only work in Internet Explorer and earlier versions of Opera.

This is an excellent explanation of how to do it:
http://www.b-man.dk/tutorials/css_scrollbarcolour.asp

You will have to apply that style to every page that will be loaded in the iframe. Applying it to the body of the parent page won't work. In other words, if you are using this iframe to load external pages in, it is not possible.

ProBook 4310s, Windows 7 When scrolling, a small scrollbox appears randomly and takes me way off the page I am scrolling on.  This happens when I use the little square plate to scroll.  This is the single most irritating 'feature' of any computer I have ever owned or used, and I should like to be able to turn it off.  How do I do that please?

Hi Taxlady: I found the solution myself.  You have to start HP Support Assistant and choose Problem Solving (the second of the four options, my copy is in Swedish so it may not be called Problem Solving but something similar).  Then choose Peripherals, the one in the middle on the bottom row, and next Configuration for Mouse and <whatever that flat plate is called in English>.  Here you will get a new window, with a five item menu on the left.  These items will be something like: Overview, Scrolling, Point, Buttons and something else I don't even understand the Swedish for! Choose Scrolling, and under there you have one-finger scrolling.  Deactivate horizontal and vertical scrolling, and your problems are over.

About a week ago my parents computer scrollbar started acting strangely. When using firefox, the scrollbar would move down rapidly by itself, and anchor at the bottom of the window. When trying to move it upward manually, it is as if you are fighting the computer for control...all it wants to do is go back to the bottom. At first I thought it might be a virus...did multiple scans all come up with nothing. Have checked all drivers and settings for the mouse, and trackpad. This problems was occurring in both areas.Have done a hardware scan, says system is working normally.Have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers... degragged c drive, installed updates, tried patches, used fix-ya, used ccleaner...etc...to clean up registry...etc. Am reinstalling the service pack 2 and a hot fix?, as forums say it could be causing problems...Finally did a clean install to factory settings, install all the upgrades...etc. Changed the mouse...still no joy!! Am getting very very frustrated. Starting to look at all the options again....They are using a Sony Vaio laptop VGN-NR498D running Vista 32 bit. Right now is running IE 8. Have tried 3 different optical mice...etc. Was using firefox and google chrome, all has some issue with the scroll bar. I would guess that this problem has something to do with an incompatible upgrade?? I have looked and looked through various forums, but no one seems to have a clear answer to the problem! I need to get this fixed before they throw the computer against the w... Read more

Answer:Scrollbar anchoring at bottom of browser wind

Being a laptop did you install the software for the Mouse/Touchpad, that would seem the obvious place to start, an external mouse does not usually by default disable the internal mouse/touchpad.
