Error Message: virtual device driver failed Dll initialization

Question: Error Message: virtual device driver failed Dll initialization

Hi, guys.

When I want to install certain programs, there is a set of error messages that makes the installation fail. They're as follows:

"c:\PROGRA~1\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL. An installable Virtual Device Driver failed Dll initialization. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

If I push "ignore" then this message appears:

"c:\Windows\system32\autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. Choose 'close' to terminate the application."

I have a feeling that this is caused by a Norton antivirus program I installed couple years ago that I had a heck of a time removing. Could there be a chance that some parts of the program is still lingering to cause this?

I've been having this problem for the longest times and threw away a bunch of software because I simply couldn't install them. It's soooo frustrating. Please help!

Preferred Solution: Error Message: virtual device driver failed Dll initialization

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Error Message: virtual device driver failed Dll initialization

It's a fairly common problem with an easy fix.

Download and run the file in this post from Elvandil:

http://forums.techguy.org/2178768-post2.html

It will fix the second error -- I'm not sure about the first.

Everytime I logon to my computer which is running Windows 2000 I get the following message16-bit MS-DOS SubsystemSystem\currentcontrolset\control\VirtualDeviceDrivers. VDD. Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid. Choose 'close' to terminate the applicationFrom the research that I have done to resolve the problem you need to go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers\VDDOn the edit menu, click DeleteOn the Edit menu, click Add ValueType VDD in the Value Name box, click REG_MULTI_SZ for the Data Type and then click OKThe Multi-String Editor appears. Leave this entry blank and click ok Quit Registry EditorI have gone this this step and created a new VDD key but I do not see the REG_MULTI_SZ entry so cannot select it. I have tried the three diffent values (String, binary and DWORD) but none of these seem to work. I have also deleted and created the whole VirtualDeviceDrivers registry key. Any advice on how I can stop this message appearing would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hey peps. Im really getting angry with this thing. All I keep seeing is graphic device initialization failed. My computer told me something similar when I tried playing grand chase. I think it said upgrade graphic card driver but anyway. I use windows xp and I also just had my computer cleaned up and updated. It seems like i've tried everything. I first thought if I went to the manufacturers website it would help but that didn't sooo i really need some help here. I even downloaded this (IEGD_9_0_2_GOLD_1203.Exe). I gave it a try and nothing changed. Then I ran past this (win2k_xpe67.exe). Still no change. There were at least 3 more but I think you get the pattern soo please someone help me out

I had Norton Internet Security 2006 on my PC, uninstalled it and also ran the Norton Removal Utility (Ver.2008.0.1.19)

When I try to install a program, (Presto PageManager 7.15), at the end of the install I got 2 error messages:
The 1st is "AddPrinter Error: 1796".

The 2nd is related to Symantec: (16 bit Windows Subsystem)

?C:\progra~1\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL. An installable Virtual Device Driver Failed DLL initialization. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.?

I?ve researched the problem extensively. It relates to registry key Virtual Device Driver VDD. I tried to delete the key, delete the data value, etc. Nothing helps. When I remove Page Manager & try to reinstall I still get Error messages telling me the Virtual Device Driver is not setup properly or it?s data is wrong.

Below is my HJT log file.
Please let me know what I need to do.

Try running SymNRT, the Norton Removal Tool from Symantec. It works better than any of the 3rd party Norton removers. It may be too late, but it might still be able to clean up any remnants. Get it here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Norton_Removal_Tool_SymNRT_d4749.html You should probably also run a registry cleaner. CCleaner has proven itself both safe and effective; run both the disk cleaner and the registry cleaner using default settings and be sure to save the reg when prompted by CCleaner (just in case ). You'll be required to reboot after SymNRT (if it runs), and you should probably reboot after CCleaner. Then retry your installation. Download CCleaner from here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_Slim_No_Toolbar_d4191.html

I have an MS Access 2013 application that opens a connection to an Oracle database via an Oracle client.
On occasion the application returns the following error when the ODBC connection is opened:
Specified driver could not be loaded due to system error
1114: A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed. (Oracle in OraClient11g_home1, C:\oracle\product\11.2.0\client_1\SQORA32.DLL).
This is an intermittent problem that is reproducible on several workstations (all running Windows 7 x64 with 32-bit version of Office 2013 and 32-bit Oracle client 11.2.0).

Many times the ODBC connection is established without a problemOther times the connection can be established by closing then re-opening the application onceOther times closing the re-opening the application several times does not help
The same application is being run on several workstations and not every user experience the problem at the same time. The problem may be chronic for one user whereas another user experiences no problem whatsoever.
All of the posts I have seen concerning this issue are for a persistent problem opening a connection and not an intermittent one. I am at a loss of how to diagnose this problem and would appreciate some direction.

Answer:SQORA32 driver could not be loaded. System error 1114: A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed

After discussing this issue on another forum I was able to put together a workaround. I can?t report the issue to Oracle without having some kind of "support identifier" with them and have no idea of how to report this to Microsoft.
The workaround is based on the observation that a query that makes use of the ODBC connection never has a problem when run within the Access GUI; the connection issue occurs only when I run the query within VBA. So, I created a very simple query that selects
only one field (and actually returns no record) and uses the ODBC connection ? call it the ?peek? query. I use a form containing a control that is bound to the peek query. When my application launches I open the form, immediately minimize it (so as not bother
the user) then close the form. After this, I can use the real query in VBA.
The workaround has been in production for several months now and nobody has complained.

Hey everyone, I really need some help from you smart people out there

I'm using Windows 2000 Professional with an AMD 1800+ computer. It's been quite stable for a few months now, but now all of a sudden I started having problems shutting down/restarting my computer. Everything I try to restart, an error message pops up saying:
I don't know what's causing this, it just kind of happened out of nowhere. The problem is, it shows up everytime I try to restart, and everytime I click on the 'OK' button, the computer does not shut down, but continues to pop up the error message until I go insane and hit the reboot button on the tower. I've downloaded all the service packs and OS updates from Windows Update, I don't know what can be going on. It's a problem because when I install a program that requires a reboot, the programs do not install correctly. If anyone has any ideas, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Can anyone help please.
Just tried to connect with a relative going abroad on Skype, but the webcam won't work. It worked OK in Aus over Christmas, but just tried it today and got an error message as in subject line.

I'm not sure what to do, we are not very knowledgeable on the workings of computers, we just know the basics.
This laptop was recently cleaned up due to malware and virus so don't know if that has anything to do with it, but any help from anyone with computer knowledge would be gratefully received.

I looked on the Toshiba website and it said about updating BIOS but not sure what that will do or if it's the right thing to do.
thank you

Answer:Web cam initialization failed. Please check your camera device and restart

Hi

Did you try to restart the webcam software?
Reboot firstly the notebook.
Then start the webcam software. Software should be placed in
start -> all programs -> camera assistant software

Restart the program and check if it helps.

Earlier today, I had my computer running as I always do. I left the room for about 15 minutes, and returned to find a blue screen. I don't remember everything written on the screen, but I do remember one line said something to the effect of "If this is your first time seeing this message, restart your system now." Another line said that if I had recently installed any new software or hardware, I should check it out. I haven't installed anything new in the last 2 weeks. At the bottom, it also read "Beginning physical memory dump." I restarted my system, and I began hearing a loud clicking noise followed by a very loud screeching noise. My first thought was that it was my hard drive. About 5 minutes after rebooting, the blue screen appeared again with the same message. At this point, I called the company that handles the warranty, and explained the situation. The system was going wild by now, clicking and screeching extremely loud. Then, something weird happened. The tech asked me to move the system to see if the fan in back was running. I moved it, and ever since that time, the screeching and clicking just stopped. It's been quiet now for the last 8 hours or so. I have absolutely no idea what happened, but out of that I discovered something else.

During our conversation, the tech had me run the command prompt "mem/d." The first time around, it popped up a message related to Symantec, which I uninstalled about 2 we... Read more

When I try to use disc mounting software, on Windows Vista 32 bit when I try to open a virtual disc, it comes up with an error. The heading is: 16 bit Windows Subsystem
The body is: SYSTEM\currentcontrolset\control\virtualdevicedrivers. Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

I have done some poking around the internet, and it sounds like the solution is to use regedt32.exe and find the VDD value in the registry and change it. I don't have regedt32.exe, but I used Regedit, and couldn't find that value in the registry at all. I can get to SYSTEM\currentcontrolset\control, but from there I don't have the virtualdevicedrivers folder.

Hi,

Since the 11/18/2012 event viewer (Event ID 219, Task Category 212) has been posting a warning:

The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device WpdBusEnumRoot\UMB\2&37c186b&0&STORAGE#VOLUME#_??_USBSTOR#DISK&VEN (followed by name of USB device)

It only occurs on start up if I have a USB memory device plugged into a USB port. The USB memory device functions perfectly and the error never occurs when I plug in and out a memory device after boot up.

The error only occurs for memory devices like memory sticks, external USB hard drive does not cause this error.

Checking back to around the 11/18/2012 I see nothing that I have changed/installed that might indicate something that has caused this. No other Windows 7 failures or issues.

Booting a second hard drive with windows 7 on the same system (I have this second installation for testing faults etc), the issue does NOT occur.

From checking forums and searching I have found a few others with this issue and a few articles on its cause

WUDFRd failed to load for the device

Event ID 219 is logged after you install Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

I was just curious as to why it would suddenly start occurring after a particular date when as far as I can tell I have not made any changes to anything around this date.

Also I wondered if there was a fix to stop this, other than removing a memory stick before boot up!

Any thoughts?

Answer:The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device... error

I just started getting this exact same error message logged in Event Viewer when I plug a USB stick into a USB port. It happens with two different sticks from two different manufactures, but it does not happen every time I plug them in. It seems that it may mostly happen the first time I plug a stick in after I have booted up my PC.

Have you been able to find a solution to get these error codes to stop logging?

Hi,

I have Windows 7 running in Parallels Desktop 10 for Mac.

Although things have worked in the past, recently, several application will not run and I get the following error:
CLR initialization failed with error 800700c1.

This includes chocolatey and powershell..
I couldn't find any solution to this.
Also, when I attempted "Control Panel->Troubleshooting->Fix Problems with Windows Update" I get an error dialog with the exact same code.
I also tried repairing and updating the .NET Framework installation, but to no avail.
More repair attempts:
chkdsk: Windows has checked the file system and found no problems.
SFC /scannow: Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
I get the same error with another user and also in Safe Mode.
I am truly baffled.

Update: I think it is related to the following DLL:C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_1fc8b3b9alel8e3b_8.0.50727.3053_x-ww_b80fa8ca\MSVCR80.dll. It is apparently corrupted.
When I try to open in in depends it gives an error: "No DOS or PE signature found. This file is not a valid 32-bit or 64-bit Windows module."

Please advise,
Adi
Also asked here.

Answer:CLR initialization failed with error 800700c1.

SOLVED!

I finally got it fixed.
As I suspected, it was related to a (possibly) corrupt 64-bit DLL MSVCR80.DLL.
I uninstalled all the "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable" packages (both 32 and 64 bit) via the regular uninstall screen from the Control Panel - I had 3 such packages.
After this, everything returned to working order.

Hi everybody,

I have had a similar error message before, and solved the problem using advice from this site and a relatively simple Command prompt solution. The difference is that the last time my pc was able to "see" the wireless network and partially connect to it.

Can anybody help?

I recently upgraded my WinXP to Service Pack 3 and upgraded to ThinkVantage Access Connections v5.02. After that I lost all wireless connectivity and receive an "Error 117: wireless stack initialization failed" message. I've gone back to earlier restore points, but no success in getting back my wireless connectivity.  I tried uninstalling the Network Adaptor, but it only hangs up the computer and doesn't respond. I've seen some other messages that say something about the wrong network driver getting installed, but have no idea if that is true for my T43 model.  Can someone help me restore my wireless connectivity?  Heeeeelp!!!

I have a very strange printer problem. I have a very good but bit older PC with an HP Laserjet 4000.

I have used this printer and this PC originally with Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 with no problem. I upgraded to Windows 10 last year and still no problem with this PC and printer.

Then a few days ago it stopped printing - it appears that no data is being received by the printer from the PC. No changes were made to the PC. The printer is attached to a network and it prints fine from my Macbook Air and an old Mac Mini that are also attached to the network.

I tried deleting the printer and then adding it again but get the error message "Unable to install printer. Dynamic Link Library ("DLL") Initialization Routine Failed"

Even stranger, one time after I shut down and restarted both the printer and PC the Laserjet 4000 did install and print for a few minutes, then it stopped working again. I have been unable to successfully install the printer again.

Any ideas how to solve this problem? Thanks.

Hi everyone on Toshiba forums.

I have a Satellite L300 and I have done a clean install of Windows 7. When I try to use the webcam an message says " webcam driver failed turn camera off or restart computer" or something like that.

I have read many threads about how to get this working with the camera assist program but I just keep getting this error massage. Can anyone please help with a foolproof way of getting this webcam working?

I have downloaded the latest drivers. Also if I try to do a system restore will I be able to do this as I have read that this will no longer work. I did not make a recovery CD/DVD before installing Windows 7 (I know dumb move) if this is the case is there anywhere online I can download the full package for my laptop?

Thanks for reading and I hope I meet some good friends on this forum

Answer:Satellite L300 - Webcam driver failed error message

Hi

Are you running any other programs they need the camera, like MSN, Skype, etc.?
By the way, can you also test if the webcam works on Skype, MSN or another video chat program.

Furthermore you should try to update the BIOS and load the default settings there. Maybe it will work.

You can get a new recovery disk from Toshiba directly but you have to pay for that. Here you can order a new one:

My laptop started freezing up.  Sometimes for a few seconds and I am unable to move the pointer. Sometimes it is longer or it just shuts down with BSOD and the stopcode Thread Stuck in Device Driver.  The laptop came with Windows 8.1 64-bit, but I upgraded to Windows 10 64-bit  months ago with no issues until recently.  I tried replacing all the drivers and finally as a last resort, reformatted to clean version of Windows 10 64-bit.  The exact version is Windows 10.0.14393.351.  The laptop is only 2 years old, but it impossible to do anything when it keeps freezing or shutting down.  Any suggestions on how to resolve? Thanks

We have a PC running Windows XP Pro. In trying to connect a Sony Digital Handicam to the firewire port, the driver loads into device manager/imaging devices "bong" is heard and all appears fine for 3 sec to 1 minute. Then "bong" again and the device disappears from Imaging Devices. We have tried the camera and firewire cable at Circuit City and all works fine. We even tried installing a firewire card to run the camera, instead of the port coming off the mother board -- and still have the same problem. The error we get when trying to capture movie from camcord is "Capture Device Initialization Error" from the Pinnacle program. Does anyone have a clue what we can try next???? Thanks..

My hard drive died yesterday, so I put another one in, and proceeded to install Windows from the same DVD disc, same computer, same DVD drive and same everything, only the hard drive is different. but I cannot install Windows 7 on this new hard drive. I am presented with an error message,A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing.and asks me to browse for a driver. but if I click on any option whatsoever, everything seems to freeze. my old hard drive and installation didn't give me this error message at all, in fact it installed seamlessly. how do I remedy this?

Answer:A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing error message and freeze

i had the exact same problem, i solved it by creating an install disk at a lower write speed (2x)

download a windows 7 ISO and create a bootable install cd from it at 2x speed

Hi, Lenovo 3000 N1000 with 1GB Ram, Win XP SP2, purchased in May 2006. WLAN network with WPA-PSK key worked without any issues so far and is still accessible with PC.After transferring music via from my notebook to my mobile Bluetooth all network adapters seem to be disconnected. Neither Access Connections (AC) nor Windows can find any wireless network. Also if I try to configure any LAN, WLAN with Windows I get the message that all network adapters have been removed. However I cannot spot any issue in the device manager as all parts are shown to be working OK. This is what I've done so far: 1) Checked Radio switch ---> on 2) FN +F5 --> connection on 3) Uninstalled AC, downloaded and installed most actual version (5.00 Build 7VCX32WW) 4) Installed new version for wireless driver for Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG (version 12.0.0.82) Still, even if I uninstall AC to check if WLAN is working at all, Windows gives the error message that all network components have been removed. Diagnose Tool gives the following output: "Wireless Stack initialization failed, error code 117" Logfile:  Description : Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network ConnectionType : Wireless LAN AdapterDriverVersion : 10. 5. 1. 59 ----> why is the old driver version??????????PNPID : PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4227&SUBSYS_10118086SupplicantVersion : AEGIS Protocol (IEEE 802.1x) v3.5.3.0  ERROR AcSvc( SYSTEM(Prvlg).1108.4580) [9/3]11:04:15:703... Hello everyone,
I was setting default to file extensions and came across a few in which I have no idea what they are for. I've googled them and all I find is 'malware' removal, and what the extension is, which I know that part, but I want to know what it's FOR.
.386 Virtual Device Driver
.a A File
AC3 File
.CRL (the default is Crypto Shell Extensions) is this correct?
.CRT ( ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ same as above)
.DRV (Device Driver)

I'll start with those, I don't want to list them all. ....Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

I have two issues, which I think are related. In the Device Manager, it shows under USB Controllers "Unknown device". "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

I tried updating the driver, but the driver was correct.

I tried disabling the device.

I uninstalled the device. Windows reinstalled it at next boot, but the problem reappeared.

There is no Imaging Devices in the Device Manager.

At the same time, my webcam failed to open. Message "Webcamera initialization failed."

I downloaded the correct webcam program from Toshiba, installed it, but same result.

This all started when I uninstalled and reinstalled Skype. I have tried uninstalling it again, but still no webcam.

The webcam is enabled in the BIOS.

I really do not want to reinstall Windows.

All help appreciated.

I tried to update my older Radeon ATI 5450 GPU via windows update...

I received the message from windows update, and showed it failed update with the 0x800706be

However when I go to device manager and check the details of the installed driver it clearly shows the new updated version? So I wonder which is correct the device manager showing the new version of the driver or windows update?

Answer:Failed Update 0x800706be driver...but device mgr shows updated driver?

You can identify the problem using Device Manager, which you can access by:
Opening the Control Panel Window
Selecting and double-clicking System
Clicking Device Manager
In Device Manager check if there is an exclamation point, a yellow triangle, or a question mark against your Dell device. If there is, there is a problem with your Dell device.

Hi there!
I'm in a desperate need of help.
This is the situation (sorry for my bad English as always...).
Yesterday I left my PC running with a download in progress through MiPony.I told the program MiPony (for the first time) to shut down the PC at the end of the download.Until then the PC had no problem. Before going to bed I checked the PC and I saw that it was offThis morning I turned on the PC and I glimpsed a sign that it was starting a scan (the only letter I saw was I:\) but I could not stop it.The PC is turned on regularly. Only half an hour later I found out that an entire 3TB HDD in 4 partitions had disappearedI did some search and found this error: The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ROOT\PARAGONBLOCKDEVICE\0000.I tried to reboot but same situation (no scan and normal situation) but NO drive.I checked the event log (attached) and I see the problem started after 4 different event regarding my network connection (It's a week that I have to reset the modem \ router several times a day)

I am seeing several of these Warnings in the Event Viewer, Windows System logs. These are Event ID 219, Source Kernel-PnP.

That said, I am not experiencing any crashes, freezes, BSODs, and everything on my PC seems to be functional. So perhaps I can safely ignore these warnings, but I prefer to get to the bottom of something in case it will lead to problems in the future.

I have done some online research on this event, and none of the suggested fixes seem applicable to me. I have been vigilant in keeping all drivers on my machine up to date. I've checked, and there don't seem to be any newer drivers available for any of my hardware. I also have the Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework service set to "automatic" startup.

The details of this event are below.

Any suggested action to remedy my problem? Thanks!

Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc, right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager, are there any devices with yellow flags? If so, these devices need drivers installed. Usually your video card driver.

So I turned on my computer this morning and, having had no proir issues that I was aware of, my screen was black and I got a message saying, "Interactive logon process initialization has failed. Please consult the event log for more details."

I didn't know what that meant, so I just restarted my computer and, shockingly, everything came back as normal, but what is the likelyhood that there is still that error with my laptop? And is there anything I can do to fix it so this won't happen again?

Other details:
I have a Dell Inspiron 1525, and Windows Vista Home Basic. Also, I'm in the process of purchasing a new battery [I've been getting alerts upon login about my battery life for a couple of months now, and now the battery won't last more than 45 minutes w/o being plugged in..] if that may have anything to do with it.

Thanks guys!

Do you know if you caught a virus?

When exactly does this message pop up?

I get that error (wmi related i think), when i try to check the policies on this client.. its an XP sp2 machine, a member of a 2003 domain..

I've tried removing the workstation from the domain, then deleting its account.. then renaming the machine and rejoining, but nothing has gotten me around this error..

Does anyone know what else to look for..

EIther way, i'm pretty sure GPO's arent being applied properly on this machine (actually there is another machine having a similar error as well).. I think on that machine.. the window that pops up after hitting rsop.msc, was something like "not found".

Thanks

I am trying to run a program, which has worked fine for years on this PC and did up through 3/6/13, but on Friday began having this problem.

When I click on the program to open it all I get is a window popping up that says
"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDri vers. Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

The window is titled "16 bit Windows Subsystem"

I have tried 'restoring", however the "restore" said it was unable to complete and that no changes were made.

This PC is running Windows Vista, the program is called Professional Real Estate.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Thanks,

Mike

Whilst trying to "De-Demo game" my cousins computer I think I got a bit carried away and deleted one file too many! It is a Compaq Presario 5456 466mhz, windows 98se ( never updated, never modified) machine.I used the Add/Remove utility on the conrol panel for most part, i installed Tweakui for other parts and then manual deletion from Explorer for the stubborn programs. The problem is with a virtual device driver scsi1hlp (version 4) Now every time i put in a cd/dvd into the drive i get the following Blue screen warning after a few seconds and i cannot eject the media or do a Ctrl + Alt + Delete closure:data cd=an Exception OE has occured at 0028:000000c4 in VxD ---. Answer:virtual device driver problems

Hi presidente. I've done a bit of research via Google. It appears that the loss of scsihlp.vxd shouldn't give any problem unless you have a scsi drive. If you need to, you should be able to replace the file from your Windows cd. I found a reference to almost exactly your error message in a Google translation of an Italian web site, but the advice given was that either a badly connected ide cable or a faulty cd drive was the most likely cause.

I got a Canon Printer which have no Vista support from official site which I wish to use it in W7. I know it's an old AIO printer but sometimes the scanner comes in handy, but problem is I only get hold of XP driver for it. I tried installed the Virtual XP mode beta and I try to setup my printer, but my driver setup won't go through, it said it can't detect my printer.

So just want to ask is it actually possible to install XP-only device in Virtual XP mode so I can use the device in W7 environment ? I didn't use much of Virtual PC so I am not quite sure. Thanks for any help !

Answer:XP-only driver/device in Virtual XP Mode ? Possible ?

Tell me the name of the driver file and let's see if we can force an install in Win7/Vista. Better yet, just send it to me.

I am new to vmachines, but it seems reasonable that the vmachine cannot use a device that the host cannot attach.

Alright here it goes.

Some time ago i installed a symantec security suite into my computer, i don't remember which one, i had to uninstall it manually because after the installation it did not work correctly and refused to uninstall in the add and remove programs.

After few reboots and fighting i finally got all the pieces of it out of my comp, and it had also taken the virtual device driver dll under its control - now i don't know what it exactly does, but i do know that now my 16-bit setups won't start.

I have tried removing the whole VirtualDeviceDrivers key in the HKLM\Sys\CCS\Control\ - i have tried to remove only the VDD multi string value in it, but this results in error message of it missing when i start to run a 16-bit installer - now if i recreate the key and the value i don't get the error of course but instead of giving error message it gives nothing.

When i start any 16-bit setup i have seen it start a process called ntvdm.exe for a second and then it closes instantly after starting up.

That's all the info i can figure out, and i'm running XP SP2.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Virtual device driver issue?

here is the explanation of that ntvdm.exe:

Windows NT Virtual DOS Machine (NTVDM) for running 16-bit tasks on the 32-bit OS's (Windows NT, 2K and XP). Required if hardware on a machine with these OS's needs 16-bit DOS drivers.

That is courtesy of http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php?filter=ntvdm.exe
as for your other problem i can't help wait for the expert

I have been trying to resolve this issue for a while now. When I open a new window in IE 8.0.6001, I get the 16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem Pop Up box which I can close or ignore.

First the error was for the Virtual device driver format in the registry is invalid. I went to the MS article on recreating the VDD in the registery and followed directions numerous times. When done correctly, I get another 16 Bit Pop up with The NTVDM has encountered an illegal instruction error with various CS address errors.

In my reading, I know the NTVDM has a relationship with the VDD. This is confirmed by when I remove the VDD from registry, I get the original Vitual Device Driver pop up.

After exhaustive time reading and re-reading, I am not able to find a good solution short of a re-install, which I do not want to do. I want this annoying 16 Bit MS-DOS pop up to stop.

Running XP SP3, AVG, and scanned numerous times with S&D and Malwarebytes (ALL UPDATED)

Thanks!

Fred

I am trying to open money matters software - (windows XP) and keep getting a message;

system/currentcontrolset/control/virtual devicedrive.vdd - vdd format in registry is invalid.

I have tried the regedt.32 route as advised - but couldn't delete what was there (default) and added reg_multi-sz and it still made no difference.

Could this be anything to do with the registry patrol software I paid for, downloaded etc to speed my pc up ? the techies there are not responding to my e-mails - help please before my wife commits homicide because we can't do our accounts

Answer:Virtual Device driver - notice

Are you using this program?
http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/image...2b4ae010.L.jpg
Notice it says requires Windows 95, 98, Me. It mentions nothing about pure 32-bit Windows OSes like NT 4, 2000, or XP. It must be really old.
You might still be able to run it though. Go to your program files folder and find where the program executable is at. Then right click it, and look under the compatibility mode tab. Try Windows 98 or 98SE and see if that works.

This has been a problem for over a year now. 140+ identical PCs running identical images, with identical keyboards. Some have the problem, some do not, and it's incredibly unpredictable.

PCs are HP Compaq Elite 8300 SFF running Windows 7 x64 Professional.

People will be working at their PC, hear the USB disconnect sound, and their keyboard will become unusable for 30+ seconds.

For those affected, the frequency of the error runs anywhere from 10 times a day to once every few weeks.

Re-imaging the PC has no effect but that same image running on another PC with the same hardware can run without ever experiencing the problem. The system I use has not experienced the problem once in over a year.

I have rebuilt the image from scratch and pushed it out to a group of people experiencing the error. It seemed to resolve it for a few months and then the errors inexplicably came back. I've tried replacing the keyboards with completely different models. Again, it seemed to resolve it for a while and then it came back.

I know this may sound simple; but have you tried completely uninstalling the keyboard from device manager; then let windows reinstall it? That may fix the issue. If not then post back.

Help!

I just downloaded the unvenerable SP2 update and started to install it on my wife's system when the PC locked up. I had to restart the system in order to get out of the "lockup". Upon doing so, I received a blue screen which says "Process 1 Initialization Failed" and some other garbage about changing BIOS settings and or starting in Safe Mode.
Needless to say nothing works! Arrg!

Please help before the Mrs. hangs me out for hurricane Jeanne to carry me off to some desolate island without MY PC.

Been searching for days to find a solution for this problem (including fresh installs of Windows 10 etc), and today accidentally found it ... for my Asus Maximus V111 Formula at least, but it may also work on other motherboards

In BIOS, ensure that the XHCI Hand-Off is set to ENABLED (default is disabled)

I changed this, and now I can boot the system with USB devices inserted, and not get any Kernal-PnP warnings

Full event error: The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device {C5A047D8-CB5B-40E9-B9E3-316AB06B5A18}\WirelessKeyboardFilter`

Driver environment:
Windows 10 x64 desktop
I have a wireless Microsoft mouse
I do not have a Microsoft wireless keyboard
I have the associated transceiver that should work for both (if installed)

This problem started when my Microsoft wireless mouse driver was updated to version 1.0.102.0 (dated 3/16/2016).
This driver update also appears to be responsible for a few other device errors as well:

I believe this new driver assumes you have a wireless keyboard (without checking) and just tries to load a driver for it.

My temporary fix is/was to rollback the driver to the previous Microsoft version 10.0.10586.0 (dated 6/21/2006):

Anyone else run across this condition or have a known solution using the latest driver?

Thanks,

aardvark

At Windows 10 startup this Warning appears in my Event Log as Event ID: 219.

The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device SWD\WPDBUSENUM\{a1c931b2-3b00-11e5-9c14-806e6f6e6963}#0000000008100000.

I know why this happens. The device in the message is an internal SATA AHCI hard drive. All AHCI drives, even internal ones, are considered removal or hot swapable. It even causes the safely remove icon to appear sort of like it was a USB drive. It happened on Windows 8.x. Don't remember if it happened on Windows 7. I can't make any changes in my BIOS to make it not hot swapable as there is no option for this drive.

The fix to get rid of the message in W8 was to modify the Service 'Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework' Changing the Startup type from Manual to Automatic fixed the problem. However, on Windows 10 this method does not work.

I can't disable the Service as it's needed for other devices. Just wondering if anyone found a nice clean way to get rid of the warning message like in W8?

I have the same issue. And, Yes, I have downloaded and installed all of the latest driver/firmware from my manufacturer for all my hardware but still have this issue.

I have a couple of problems with Win2k. Not sure if they are related. Occassionally I get an error message that says the following:

d:\Docume~1\Ran\Desktop|Shortc~1.PIF System\Current\Controller\Virtual\Device Drivers. VDD. Virtual Device Driver in the registry is invalid. Choose 'close' to terminate the application.

The most recent instance of this message was when I clicked on the dos prompt in Win2k.

The other problem I am having is that when I choose the "restart" option instead of shutting down in Win2k, Win2k doesn't restart. The monitor shuts off, but not the power to the monitor. I end up doing a hard reboot to get the computer to return to Win2k desktop.
Also, when choosing the "shut down option" instead of 'restart', the monitor shuts off, but not the power to the monitor and the hard drive doesn't appear to shut off and won't respond at all to me pressing the on and off switch. I end up shutting the hard drive off with the surge protector after I have turned the monitor off.

I do not have any screen savers turned on nor any green functions. And have my power management set to "desktop status".

System is not prompting me to run scandisk at startup.

Any idea what is causing any of this?

Hello all,

My computer is running Windows XP 32 bit.

I've recently been suffering through the issue of my computer constantly rebooting when I try to run it normally. I can run it in safe mode no problem though.

When I clicked the "Use last known configuration" option I was presented with the error "C:\WINDOWS\system32\command.com
SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers. Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid" then the option to close or ignore. Ignore causes the warning to keep appearing until eventually the computer reboots anyway and the cycle continues.

When I looked in the registry for that pathway I found that I had no "VirtualDeviceDrivers" path in my "C:\WINDOWS\system32\command.com\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control.

I only have MalwareBytes, Spybot, and Microsoft Security Essentials. Never had Norton. No firewall.

I have no Windows XP disk and my search has turned up that most people have different fixes for this issue.

A majority of these solutions were found in this forum and I'm hoping to get some as well.

Thank you for any help and I apologize if I left anything out.

I cant seem to delete the default value there.

I can make a new Multi-string Value (which is step 4)
and rename it to VDD (Step 5)
but that does not solve the error..

I have also done the restoring Command.com file
but still I cant delete the the value in VirtualDeviceDriver..

BTW, just tell me if this is in the wrong forum or something because I dont really know whats causing this.. (virus, malware, or software or whatever X_x)

Hi, critical one this for me and desperation is setting in.

I have an application to load and assess for work before the end of the week. As a new expensive app it is USB "dongle" protected. When I try to run the setup.exe to install it I get the following error word for word:

"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers. VDD. Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application". That address is reported incomplete without HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\, and why is VDD displayed unattached to its address, or am I just being too paranoid? I am then offered Close and Ignore as options.

The entry under VDD in the registry is:

"VDD, REG_MULTI_SZ, C:\Progra~1\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL" presumably a Symantec NAV dll. Symantec's support system is of course no real help.

Not being a registry wizard. can anyone else offer any insight as to what is wrong here?
