Preferred Solution: Solved: Explorer fails to load

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Following an update from Kodak Easy Print, my Explorer starts to load: brings up the Goggle home page, and then disconnects. Tried rebooting and restarting and still no full boot.
Should I begin by removing all of the Kodak application?
I feel like I should be able to find a process in the Task Manager that is conflicting with Explorer.
Since I am on the other computer writing this, I cannot give you any pictures of my system, unless you have suggestions on how to do that. I do have a network with three other computers available with Explorer working.

i'm screwed if I don't fix this by monday.

windows starts up fine and everything is dandy, until I login. Right around the loading user settings part of the login, i get a nice little popup window that says: "The Instruction at '0x7c80ac9b' referenced memory at '0x80040119'. The memory could not be 'read'. Ok to terminate. Cancel to debug" So i hit cancel to debug and nothing is fixed. I can still use cnt-alt-delete to see all my other programs running. All except the most important one. I can see my desktop picture, but that is it. and my mouse.

worst is, this isn't my computer and if it's messup up on monday i'm screwed! help!

btw: safe mode does not help.. the same thing happens. If this helps, I just installed service pack 2 right before I rebooted and found out this is happening. so that might have something to do with it.. How do I access my restore points? and if that doesn't work, what other options could i try? is there a way to fix windows by booting something on a cd?

Answer:HELP! explorer.exe fails to load after I login

Try when you push ctrl alt delete, click file, new task, type cmd and click enter. In the command prompt box type sfc /scannow and let it do its thing, then restart.

Also, before you get to the xp loading screen at startup, press f8 repeatedly and select restore to last known good configuration.

You can also use your xp disk to repair windows. I have never done it before so im not sure how to get to it though...

Every so often, maybe weeks apart, when I start up my B machine (PC with XP), it doesn't load and execute Windoze Explorer. Re-booting (manually) doesn't fix it.

So, I use Alt, Ctrl, Delete to bring up the Task List and I click on the Applications Tab, key in Explorer and click Run.

Explorer comes up, I have my usual desk top and everything seems to run OK.

I do a normal Turn Off every night and the next morning, odds are that Windoze (along with Explorer) will load and execute.

Then seemingly out of the blue, one day it doesn't load and execute Explorer and I have to manually (via the Task List) get it to execute Explorer so I can use the machine.

Two questions.

1. Why does it do that?
2. Is there any change I can make to prevent it in the future?

Answer:Explorer Fails To Load On Start-Up (Sometimes)

Kelly's Korner says this

Control/Alt/Delete - When the Windows Task Manager dialog box appears, select the File menu and then New Task (Run). When the Create New Task dialog box appears, type in Explorer and press the OK button. Windows Explorer should restart complete with the Start button.Click to expand...

It's similar to what you are doing but maybe it will correct the problem for good.

Good morning everyone,

I came across this forum while searching for help with a computer issue. I'm hoping you can help me!

Our sales director has a Dell Latitude E4300 laptop with Win XP Pro (I did all the updates before this problem occurred). It's brand new and he decided to use the program PC Locator to move everything from his old laptop to his new laptop. He says he did that, it said it did it successfully, but when he restarted the program right after using the program, the computer won't finish loading Windows Explorer.

It will get to the Welcome screen and you can choose your user, but after that, it will show the desktop background, but no icons or taskbar and gives the error that Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Error messages:

Can anyone help me figure out what is going on? Could he have transferred a virus or anything from his old laptop? He was prone to downloading everything under the sun, although he did have Vipre anti-virus on there and I installed Kapersky Anti-Virus on his new laptop BEFORE he copied everything over but it was FULL of junk.

I ran a standard diagnostic test as well and it came up with the following errors:

Error Code 5300D23
Msg: VIDEO - No BIOS support for SMI interface function.

I have no idea where to go from here. Anyone have suggestions? (I'm a interm... Read more

Answer:Windows Explorer fails to load - no icons/taskbar

Came across the same problem. It is a virus problem and I had to reformat to fix it. Usually it is a virus associated with a crack .exe file.

Hey guys.

I'm new here, and hopefully I can get my question answered.

This is the first time this problem has ever occured, and I'm not a computer-sage so please bear with me and try to understand my dumbed-down post.

Ok, let's begin.

Since yesterday, when ever I try to open up another window of Internet Explorer a problem comes along... (whip it good eh? lol).

Here's the problem:

-Internet homepages, in seperate tabs (I have 3, and always have had 3) -1st tab fail to loads to load but continues to do so
-2nd tab goes to "Cannot display this page" (yadda yadda yadda, type deal)
-3rd has the same ordeal as the 2nd tab

Now... what's weird is. I am using the internet right now. How? Because I didn't close the browser that was being used before this problem came along. So, I am clearly connected to the internet. The problem must lie with the initialization of Internet Explorer... right?

But, there is one thing I noticed, which may have or may not have been there before this incident... but it just not got noticed by myself:

-A black clock (Black circle with white hands reading roughyl 4:00 or 12:20 [If that is necessary]) appears in the bottom left hand corner of the browser (the hands do not move).

So, can someone please help me out here?

Thankyou so much in advance.

Yesterday I cleaned up some old folders I no longer use. Now Explorer no longer fully loads, as this 70 second video shows

Windows Explorer not fully loading anymore - YouTube

Explorer gets stuck here:
The left-side menus can NOT be expanded

Thank you for any help!

OS: Windows 7 32 bit
*I deleted music, photo albums, and some old downloads. I may have accidentally deleted something else though.

Answer:Did a file cleanup; now Explorer fails to load correctly

How or what did you use to clean things with?

Did you create a restore point before you started?

Have you tried a system restore to a point in time before you cleaned your folders?

Chances are you've messed up Windows 7's junction points.

You could try restoring your user folders, as explained in this tutorial.

User Folders - Restore Default Location

If ever you do want extra drive space it's best just to delete the contents of your user folders rather than the folders themselves.

Your library structure is, if you will, a junction point for any folders in the library, regardless of where they are on your computer.

Once you break the links you experience problems such as yours.

Hello SevenForums, long time lurker here.
I've had a issue with my windows 7 explorer's toolbar not displaying icons of all applications (.exe files).
I've tried to depict the issue in the images (a,b) below

The only instance wherein I see icons are when I click a file associated with the software,
For example, a .mp4 video associated with VLC media player shows the VLC icon in the toolbar properly

I've googled to fix this for a few months now, but I haven't managed to yet.
So now I turn to your expertise, please help

Answer:Windows Explorer's Toolbar Fails to load application Icons

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
FWIW I get the same thing for .exe files I don't believe it's a real issue because .exe files execute and do their own thing meaning if the developer didn't make an icon for the operation it might show that icon instead of the actual icon it shows other places like in your image cpuz,
Rufus does this too for it's .exe that I just noticed.

Hello, Please help me!
2 days ago, my system started to be a little slower in start up. also my dial up ISP will not work, it says "failed connecting to server" or error 720 when logging in after dialing. now if you turn on the modem speaker, you dont hear the dialing tone.
anyway, i tried fixing that problem, and soon noticed that my IE was acting strange. It wont load yahoo. at the time i used firefox, and it can load yahoo, but some buttons like in email, reply, move, does not work on it.
IE now cant load yahoo at all, it use to load half way and then display "cannot display page" message.

i tried fixing the dial up problem (through ethernet, which was slow and inconsistant in its connection for whatever reason) and was told by tech service that i might have to reset the DUN and after that i can connect... but it was short lived for when i tried to fix IE with winsockfix, it revereted back to its problem, not to mention IE wasnt fixed at all.

i rebooted many times
i scanned for virus with norton, came up nothing, no new updates either
i checked for spyware with SBS&D, no results, no new updates.
i also ran into some fatal errors, and sometimes after startup, if some programs dont work right.. and some doesnt anymore.. ex. defrag no longer works right.. and scan disk take many trieds to get it to start on restart, and if you go to start >>> programs during after freeze or so, it shows "program" as empty.

A few weeks ago internet explorer started to act funny, sometime when I opened a new browser window it would freeze in the new window, but allowed me to continue using the previously opened windows. I had to open several new windows until suddenly one of them worked. Then, the whole browser started freezing at random times, specially when clickin on links or opening new windows or tabs. I was not able to close it and reopen, I had to kill the processes using task manager, and even then, many times it would freeze on the first window.I tried several antivirus (Trendmicro, AVG, FProt, Eset, Panda) some would report some infected files, others none. After disinfecting with Panda, the browser seemingly started working fine again, but it only lasted for less than a week. After that the problems became more annoying every day.The last straw was that sometimes when turning on the PC it would freeze right before loading the windows explorer, so I could only see the background of my screen. Usually I rebooted and it will work, but today I had to reboot about 5 times before it worked again.Any help will be greatly appreciated.Thanks. Please provide us with the computer specs including model and make. Go ahead and turn off the computer and unplug it from the wall and remove any hardware or USB devices that you might have added to it and by that I mean USB thumbdrives, printer, etc. Let's have this PC only have the essential parts (mouse/kb/onboard graphics card) attached to it so we can quickly and effectively resolve the issue. Now, with the computer unplugged from the wall, press on the power button and release after 5 seconds. Now plug it in and turn on the computer. What happens now? Please do not try anything else at this point but simply report back to me and I will provide you with the next steps.

When I go to my display properties, and go to the appearance tab and try to load the scheme for XP, it says that it cannot find the file and no details are listed. I am stuck with the Windows Classic visual style, and I would like to be able to go back to my XP.

Answer:[SOLVED] XP Visual Style fails to load

I don't know if you are comfortable doing this, but the UXTheme Multipatcher ( will allow you to use any theme you want, and I'm sure there is an XP theme somewhere. If you don't want to do that, check your directory /Windows/Resources/Themes and see if you find the Luna visual style there. If not, I could certainly e-mail you with it.

Recently, I've installed the Windows Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. May or may not be the problem, but ever since, Firefox has not worked properly. It will not load pages and results in the "Network Timeout" error page. What is strange is that it does load my school email account which is held server side at the university. I am currently on a VPN network, but have had no problems with firefox in the past. Also, IE works properly, but Firefox refuses to load anything but my server side email account. I have Vista Premium installed as the upgrade from Hp since I bought this computer right before the Vista release. It is a Hp Pavilion a1637c, 3GB memory, 500 GB WD Hard Drive, AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core Processor 4200. I was having problems when burning ANYTHING to DVD's or CD's. The DVD/CD RW stops responding, locking up the computer. Only thing to do is push the power button to restart. (Can burn if I restart first but have this problem!) Now when I try to restart, it appears to be fully loaded but won't open any folders on the desktop nor the internet. The circle just keeps going around and all I can do is hit the button again to restart. To get it to fully load, I have to go into Safe Mode and do a System Restore. What can be causing this?

My MSI CR720 every so often doesnt load past the bios on startup. It runs the bios screen, then the screen goes black and two little white lines appear at the top left, normally they go away and the OS loads but for some reason they somtimes just stay there and nothing happens.
This has happened 4 times within a week, it started about 1 week ago although i cant remember what i changed to the laptop that would cause this issue other than recently i have been installing and playing many old games (age of empires, freelancer and others) which i have to run in compatability mode. My last install was Battle for Middle Earth 2.
I keep a system image backup as well as a third party backu on an external hard drive.
I have also added a partition to my hard drive by shrinking a section of it. I was running out of space on my C:OS partition so i created another and moved documents to it. (i read up about it and its possible this is what is causing my laptop to fail on startup?).
Help would be much appreciated in tracking down the issue as soon as possible as i need my laptop for my uni course! :(

I am trying to setup and run the current version of iTunes (as of March 25th) on a HP Pavilion dv4 laptop running Windows Vista 64bit

Each time I try to run it I am met with the Software License Agreement screen and to either Agree or Decline. I click on Agree and I immediately get a window pop up saying "iTunes has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." This is window has a button to close the window which opens the Windows Problem Reports and Solutions screen which only suggests to download iTunes from Apple's website and try again (i.e. not very helpful)

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes to no avail.

I did check the event viewer and saw the following for when I tried to open iTunes "Faulting application iTunes.exe, version, time stamp 0x4f56cf56, faulting module QuickTime.qts, version, time stamp 0x3ed3bfbd, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0013c108, process id 0x108, application start time 0x01cd0af8c1472e71."

I also tried following Apple's instructions here: Using Msconfig to troubleshoot conflicts in Windows Vista and Windows 7 to try fixing this but this also produced similar results.

I'd prefer not to reinstall Windows but I'm kind of at a loss at what to do at this point.

Answer:[SOLVED] iTunes fails to load Windows Vista

It seems I have figured out what was causing the issue.

After my last reboot I noticed that the Windows Theme was reverted to basic due to a problem with a program. I looked at what the window said was causing the problem.

Seems qttask.exe was corrupt. So I uninstalled and reinstalled QuickTime and now everything seems to work just fine.

ok this one is annoying the crap out of me

domain network with server 2003, vista and xp workstations.

currently on my pc (1 out of 30) when ever i log in it says it cant find my profile. i know this has something to do with settings on this machine because,

win xp next to me finds and loads the profile or creates and loads it correctly

another windows vista machine loads correctly and creates correctly.

the pc im using is an acer i have uninstalled all there propriety CRAP!!!! that they install. no effect, dl new drivers for onboard lan, manually configured network card.

i can manually copy the profile down however it will not save to the server on log off.

This on really sucks *insert large amounts of cursing*

thanks in advance

Hi Guys

I work on a Service Desk at the NHS. We seem to be having a problem and no-one knows why it is happening and i'm determined to get to the bottom of it.

When ever these particular users logon to the domain, XP won't load their profile settings (email settings, desktop icons, etc.) It does seem to load some of the profile as it doesn't display the "corrupt profile" or "unable to load profile" error message but it won't load any documents or applications settings so the user gets an empty My Documents folder and an empty desktop.

I have tried recreating the profile and copying over the settings which does seem to resolve the issue for a while but eventually the problem occurs again. So far there are only 2 users having this problem. But there seems to be no fix. We've even tried reinstalling Windows on the PC but eventually the profile begins to fail.

I'd love to be the guy to show everyone how to resolve this proble.Does anyone have any ideas?

Answer:Solved: Windows XP profile fails to load user settings

Run eventvwr.msc and look at both the System and Application logs for repeating errors.

Have a look for the errors referenced in this article and if you see any, install the User Profile Hive Cleanup service.
MIght be worth installing even if you are not seeing those specific errors.

Here is the list of the problems in order of which I noticed things going awry:

1. My Firefox browser will re-direct my google searches to a new Firefox window pop-up with "google-analytics" in its address bar, but would never finish loading the new popped-up window. Firefox would also re-direct and never finish loading my google searches by opening a new tab with a "" in its address bar.

2. Microsoft Office 2010 applications don't open, instead a "DW20.exe" and a "DWWin.exe" replicates itself an infinite number of times in my processes, maxing out my CPU.

3. My anti-virus applications (Spyware Doctor, Microsoft Security Essentials, avast!, malwarebytes) won't update, and therefore won't run or scan. Firefox also won't load various anti-virus sites, such as this message board.

4. Other applications crash directly upon opening them (VLC Media Player)

Solutions that I've tried:

1. Resetting my router. I'd read somewhere online that doing this would solve the problem. It did not.

2. Trying to restore from a restore point. I opened System Restore, but the restore points were all very recent and within the timeframe of infection.

3. Un-installing Microsoft Office 2010 and re-installing. System won't let me un-install.

Here are my scan reports:

Not long ago (a week and a half or so) I was playing Payday 2 and my computer froze, I turned off my computer to restart it and could not load my computer past a pre-loading windows black screen where the mouse was not showing. I then tried booting my computer in various ways (safe, with and without networking etc) and they worked, however I believe one of my drivers failing to load was the reason for my "Windows Normal" startup to fail. I eventually decided through, I then looked at using the system restore point function in order to hope for some success. The system restore function when I restored to; a week ago, two weeks ago, did not seem too alleviate my issue much, it did however allow me to load windows but almost immediately after using the machine for 2-5 minutes I would have a frozen screen again. I then eventually decided to just factory reset the machine out of desperation, the factory reset eventually happened successfully and I was able to load windows and login into my new user successfully, as I learnt that I had to reinstall my graphical drivers I then attempted to put in various CD's in in order to install these drivers, eventually when I figured out the order of CD's that I needed to install for my games to load properly, I then resumed my activities on my pc (such as gaming, browsing etc).
Flash forward to the second factory reset, this one happened due to a very similar freezing problem yet again, and again I decided to turn off my computer ... Read more

I installed IE-8 and had compatibility problems, so I uninstalled it. Now, IE 7 fails to open. It opens the page and shows it on screen for about 2 seconds or so and then shuts down. I reloaded a new version from MS and still have same problem. Went thru suggested repairs from MS and still can't fix it. System restore is no help. Am using firefox. Problem is, Windows auto updates only works with IE, so that is effectively turned off. Have run registry cleaner, antivirus (AVG) is up-to-date. I'm reasonably sure it is my system, not IE per se. I'm on a DELL inspiron notebook running XP w/service pack 3 installed.

first of all - it has a reason i post this in the Windows NT/2000/XP forum - because i believe the error is not caused by IE7 itself.

Description of the problem

I downloaded the IE7 installer for Windows XP. When running the exe, it unpacks/decompresses files and then suddenly stops abruptly with a little window saying "Decompression failed" - "File already exists."

No further information is given - after clicking "Ok" setup annihilates itself.

When i run it again, it then does the same thing but without even unpacking/decompressing any files at all. It just comes up with that error message right after starting the exe.

Now when i look at the progress bar while this "setup" is trying to unpack/decompress files, above from it there is a path, most probably the one it is trying to extract files to. In the current case it says "F:\9aa2f86c2b4fab0d881b0a".

I do not understand why setup wants to unpack files to F:\ - which is a Mac harddisk made compatible by MacDrive - to be used in my system.
Does anyone know about this issue and/or how to resolve it?
If not: Is there any way i can get setup to unpack files to C:\* ?
Kind regards!

Answer:Solved: Internet Explorer 7 Setup fails immedeately

I just found a workaround for the problem: i removed the drive letter F:\ from the drive, resulting in setup not being able to access F:\ at all, therefore unpacking to C:\ without any problems.

Problem solved.

So, earlier today, everything was fine. My computer was working normally nothing was acting up. While unplugging my laptop from the wall I dropped it, but nothing appeared to be wrong. A little while later I restarted my computer and it worked fine for about a minute and then everything froze in windows explorer, nothing would work, folders wont open task manager never appears start menu wont come up, nothing.
I booted into safe mode and everything works fine through there, so I looked around online and one suggestion was to update my BIOS so I tried to update from Dells Inspiron 1420 A08 to the newer A10 BIOS version, trying that in safe mode failed so I tried to boot normally and quickly do whatever it told me, when I tried it wouldnt restart (and still refuses too, I have to shut it down manually outside of safe mode) it said it couldnt update the BIOS version because it couldnt locate the image, but I downloaded it directly from Dells own website.
So then I tried to do a system restore, and I got the message:

The disk Vista (c:) has errors
Windows detected file system corruption on Vista (c:)
You must check the disk for errors before it can be restored.

So I clicked scan and fix, and nothing happens. (this is back in safe mode by the way) so I opened a command promp and typed sfc /scannow
and it scanned and found some errors but were unable to fix them. Details are located in the CBS.log
So I opened the log and I found the following:

Don't let someone for one minute get you down about the Windows GUI not loading. Reformatting is the absolute last resort. An archived thread from this board made a big difference for me in solving a difficult explorer.exe problem this week.

Apply the following strategy:

a) Launch the Task Manager (press Ctrl + Alt + Del, click Task List...) and run the Registry Editor (regedit.exe) from clicking the New Task... button. Locate the following registry keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\explorer.exe

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplorer.exe

If they are in the registry, then delete them. If they are absent, don't try to find anything else to delete. Exit the Registry Editor, restart, login as the local administrator, and see if explorer.exe loads.

b) If this fails to succeed, then run System Restore (c:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe) from the Task Manager via the New Task... button. If System Restore is Turned Off, then a dialog pops up with choice between Yes or No. Choose Yes and then Windows responds the System Restore Tab window of My Computer. Uncheck Turn Off System Restore and click once on the OK button. Then run System Restore again from the Task Manager and select Restore my computer to an earlier time. Pick your specific date in the past and execute this process. Restart the PC, accept the past date, and login as the loc... Read more

Here is my problem: I turn on windows and the desktop won't load. It just shows the background. I have found out a temporary fix, by pressing ctrl alt delete and seeing that there are two instances of explorer.exe running. If i end tast the one explorer.exe, then everything on the desktop loads and everything seems to work fine.

My specs are: Windows XP Pro SP2 with all windows updates current, 3 GB of Ram, 1 TB, total hd space, 3.20 ghz intel ht prescott, asus ps800d-x mobo.

Also under startup process I deleted shdef.exe (located in c:\windows), because it seemed suspicious to me. and I unchecked all the instances of explorer.exe to load up because there were over 4 of them, all from the same location however (c:\windows). Even after doing this there are still two instances of explorer.exe loading up and I always end task the one to get the desktop to load.

I had to restart a thread because the other one expired. I'm not the most teckie person, but I can usually research the internet enough to find an answer or solution. I'm stuck and it's driving me crazy

I had IE8 on my computer and noticed that on some of my favorite websites, I was getting the dreaded red X. I decide to install Google Chrome to see if I would have the same issue. Using Google Chrome on the same websites - no red X's. Unfortunately, I do not love Google Chrome (font issue, bookmark manager - just prefer the IE features).

I thought maybe the issue was with IE8 so I unistalled it and it reverted back to IE7 - but I'm still having the same issues.

I do have Norton Antivirus running but I figured it can not be that because it is not causing an issue in Google Chrome - right?

I research the Microsoft website...My "Show Pictures" option is turned on...I've tried all their trouble shooting, but I must still be missing something.

The one thing I did notice is that when I click on the red X and hit properties - they all seem to come up as HTML. (Sorry - this is where I'm totally clueless) Do they come up as HTML as a default? Some of these red X's are videos and some I believe are just pictures. Is this image type not supported by IE? I know that I have always used IE as my default browser, but I have not always had this issue.

What am I missing?

The computer is not mine: it belongs to someone who knows less than me about PC faults but I am no expert with Vista. MalwareBytes identified and removed Adware.Zango, Adware.Hotbar and Adware.Softomate with no noticeable difference in behaviour. In general the computer seems to be in working order except for some aspects of networking.

What doesn't work
Internet Explorer and Firefox can't load web pages
AVG can't download updates

My conclusions so far
There is something wrong with http or TCP/IP. It could be a corrupted or missing file or a faulty registry setting or maybe something is deliberately blocking certain types of traffic. Turning off the Windows firewall makes no difference.

Repair options

I have a somewhat unique problem, and I can't seem to find anyone on these forums, or the internet for that matter, with the exact same problem.

Description of the problem:
When I first turn on my computer I can OPEN Internet Explorer. However, it will not load any web pages. It just sits there trying to load a page but doesn't do anything.

About a minute later, the page will load, and the problem is gone from that point forward.

During the minute I am waiting for Internet Explorer to load, I can browse just fine on Firefox, and even play online games without any trouble.

When I first boot my computer, and I let it sit for about a minute before trying to load Internet explorer, it will load up as if nothing is wrong, but it always requires that minute before Internet Explorer will load any page.

Other info:
To the best of my knowledge the computer is 100% clean.

This problem started on or about the same time an additional 2GB of ram was added to the computer. However, this may be completely unrelated.

This problem also effects the program "Samurize". If anyone knows anything about that product, it shows computer stats, and since it calls out network information, it seems to take a minute to load, and will not load on boot.

From what others are telling me it was suggested that "svchost.exe" may be failing to load for Internet Explorer, but I can't verify that.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

- Bob

Dose any one know of this tweak, to make the IE load faster?

"step 1: first you go to start menu and then choose run.
step2: After you choose run,it appears a little box, then you can type regedit.
step3:Find the key that you need by following this HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ InternetSettings
step4:On the right box, right click and choose new ,then continue choose DWORD Value
step5:type into the box : MaxConnectionsPerServer
step6:Just right click on that key and choose modify, and then type the value that you want into the value box(when you type the large number then your browser faster)

I am using Intel i3-530 on Intel DH55TC Motherboard. The motherboard supports RAM with highest frequency of 1333MHz. However, I was told that using a higher speed RAM wouldn't hurt the system. So, today I bought a Corsair Vengeance 4GB 1600MHz RAM. The RAM is detected in BIOS, but OSes fail to boot after that. Even Ubuntu throws Kernel panic error while booting. Could anyone help me with the BIOS settings required to run this memory stick?

Answer:OS fails to load when using new RAM

Hello Mycroft mate as a general rule running a higher frequency RAM stick in a machine that runs that only supports the lower one the frequency will revert to the frequency of the new stick will be maxed to what frequency your machine will support. So I think whoever told you could run a higher frequency RAM stick in the machine should have known better and to get you to check out the supported RAM speed before you went out and got the new RAM.
If possible I would get the supplier to change it for 1333 (there really isn't much to be gained from 1600) and the extra RAM will still make a difference to your machine simply because the system has more to use and therefore less bottle knecking - in other words the CPU can load more faster if it has more empty RAM available.

ie Tip a bucket of water through a 1 inch outlet funnel into another bucket and it fills quite nicely in say 5 minutes - now take a funnel with a 10 inch outlet and the second bucket fills in no time at all - the first bucket is the CPU and the second bucket the RAM the difference being there is more channels for the data to flow through even though it might be the slower speed RAM

You can see from this Intel? Desktop Board DH55TC the board only supports 1333 max - you can install a faster RAM stick but why bother?

So for example the 1600 you have put in should only run at 1333 if the machine specs say max 1333. The other problem could be that the new RAM stick is bad.

To see about RAM this might gi... Read more

I have also tried to search on google about this problem. No luck probably because I'm rubbish at searching

ill really appreciate it if someone can help me out.

Hi, Everyone,
How are you? I have been running Windows XP, Service Pack 2 on my computer for several years now. Last night, my computer froze for the first time in over half a year, so I restarted it and nothing seemed to be wrong. After about 15 minutes of using it, it froze once again. After restarting it the second time, however, it showed me the screen that says I could choose to restart in the "Last Known Good Configuration," in "Safe Mode, or to "Start Windows Normally."

If I chose the non-Safe Mode options, it would start to load Windows (with the Windows XP screen and the blue bar running under it), and then restart itself when the blue bar runs for the third time. For the Safe Mode options, it would load partway and then restart again.

Can I do something to fix this? Is this a hard drive problem? I tried unplugging everything except for my monitor and hard drive, but the problem was still there. Please help! I am using a library computer to type this and will wait until I can find a resolution, then go home and try it.

Thank you in advance!

i've tryed

1- at the dos prompt chose load in safe mode; failed to load and went back to dos screen saying there was a problem chose what to do next

2- chose to use last known good setting; failed to load and went back to dos screen

3- chose to use safe with prompt; failed to load and went back to dos screen

4- chose to use safe with networking; failed to load and went back to dos screen

5- inserted the recovery disc; failed to load and went back to dos screen

7- cold boot; failed to load and went to dos screen

8- tried warm and cold boot without the recovery disc; failed to load

the only way i can stop it is to cut the power to the pc by turning it off.

Hello again - this place worked last time so I thought I would try again... here is my problem:I use a computer designed for a visually impaired person. The PC (running XP Professional) automatically loads JAWS For Windows (a program (JFW) which 'reads' what is going on (web pages, Word documents, keystrokes) so she can tell what is happening) which appears to run normally. HOWEVER when OPENBOOK (a Text scanning/'reading' program) is loaded, I get errors regarding SSILEXE.EXE not being able to load, which is a speech synthesizer designed to coordinate bothw JFW and OPENBOOK so they can 'talk' without both talking at once. I followed Freedom Scientific's directions (they are the makers of both these programs) to re-expand the AUTOEXEC.NT, CONFIG.NT and COMMAND.COM files from the Windos master disk to the C:\windows\system32\ directory, but the problem keeps coming back. (The only other error message I remember is something about not being able to "load a 16-bit program" or something like that.)Things I have noticed: a Sheild (looks like a MS Update shield) which says 'Downloading Updates 0%' (but I don't think it's really doing that) that pops up when I start Windows, JAWS runs fine, but trying to open OPEN BOOK takes a LONG time to load (and I get the error message about the speech synthesizer not being able to load) - if I try to load OPENBOOK while Norton Protection Center is checking the system this REALLY bogs down. I am wondering if runnning Nort... Read more

I'm trying to fix a Lenovo 3000 N200 Model 0769 with a pentium dual core processor, a WD 160Gb #WD1600BEVS-08RS hard drive, and 2Gb RAM running Windows XP sp3 Home.  Could not find the restore CD, but have a copy of the OS on CD.A few months ago, the system crashed while I was using the computer and would begin this endless loop of trying to restart windows and then failing.  I suspected a failing HD, so I tried to put the drive into an external enclosure and plug it into my desktop PC.  It was not seeing the drive, so I bought a tested one (same model) from the internet.  Later, I was successful in bringing the OS back up again and immediately began copying files to a backup drive.  Every so often, while copying image and video files, the OS would crash again and I'd restart successfully. I suspected corrupt files or bad HD sectors.  Eventually, it quit loading Windows altogether.  I received the purchased replacement drive, however, when I plugged it into the laptop, it didn't seem to find it and I guessed that it had not been formatted yet.I took it into work where we publish a software database and plugged it into the Windows 7's mother board SATA plug and successfully detected and formatted the new drive.  I also plugged in the "failing" drive, which it detected  and ran a scan on it, automatically detecting and fixing any bad sectors.  It seemed to complete successfully and when I plugged th... I have a very odd problem at the moment. As of recently my desktop fails to load anything except the wallpaper on any user.

I've recently acquired a Trojan.Vundo.H and have been attempting to get rid of it. I found it with Malwarebytes anti Mal-ware. I've attempted numerous times at deleting the files in both safe mode and regular mode, but the virus still comes back.

I then attempted to locate the files manually. There was a single .dll file and then three registry entries (I would post then but I'm in the middle of a full scan on my computer that is infect so I shall do so when that is finished). In either mode and using cmd all were unable to be deleted. I then ran a virus scan using Avira and it found the .dll file but was unable to delete it. After a system restart I went to check to see if the file was still there and it was. However to my surprise, Avira detected the infected .dll file and was able to remove it. I then rebooted my machine and noticed the .dll was gone but that still left the three registry entries. I began to scan with Malwarebytes anti Mal-ware and it said the .dll was still there, although after manually looking for the file I could not locate it.

So then I began to attempt to delete the three registry entries. I tried going in safe mode, editing the permissions, anything I could find online to do, but nothing worked. I then backed up the registry and set a system restore and then ran ccleaner.

After the restart is whe... Read more

The hard drive light is still lit up like its doing something but after an hour or so of leaving it on like that it was still frozen. I was able to load it up in safe mode and remove any adware/spyware on it and get a hijack this log. For the last 2 days I cannot get my Youtube channel to load properly. It seems to stick on something called "". Is anyone else having this trouble at the moment?

As 67 people have looked at this but not one has replied, even to tell me that I'm an idiot, I feel rather ignored on what is my first outing on this forum. Perhaps my question is too banal.

Anyway, in the hope of receiving some sort of response here's a more detailed description of the problem:

I use Firefox with Noscript and Ad Block Plus.

I have a 3 mobile broadband connection (which has worked well enough since I got it) and before Friday I had no problems with Youtube.

When I try to load my channel on Youtube everything zips along nicely until it comes to "transferring data from". Then it just hangs. And Hangs. I have left it for 40 minutes or so and nothing has moved.

If I selectively disable "" in Noscript everything loads but there is no video to play.

Evidently is a perennial nuisance because it is mentioned in many other forums. Solutions suggested include putting extra lines in the hosts file (tried it. No good). Removing lines from the host file (couldn't because the line was not there) and changing DNS server.

Does anyone here have any new wheeze to suggest?

Apologies if this is in the wrong section, I am new here.

In fact, perhaps there should be a section just for and its attendant miseries.... Read more

Ill try to make a long story short. Bought a Dell Precision 470 that was two years old from my ex boss. I ran the computer the whole time and it never once gave me a single problem. Upon receiving the computer i found that he ran a few registry deleting programs and because i know he doesn't know how to do anything i feared he did something wrong.

I in turn decided to format the computer. I am running a RAID 1 set-up (mirror) on two 250GB drives. I format the raid array first and rebuild the array then install OS which involves obviously formatting the hard drive and then install drivers reboot then what software pleases me.

The software i run is pretty basic, office 2003, illustrator, photoshop, itunes, mozilla, norton and a software and driver for my business which happens to be sign making. Now the only software thats different on there is the signmaking stuff. We use to run a Prog called signlab and now i use something else. apart from that the general use of the computer is about the same as it was the two years previous.

Every 4-6 weeks the computer decides to stop loading. Always after being shut down normal and properly. It will get to the Windows preloader screen where the three boxes just sit there and slide back and forth over and over essentially until i turn the box off. I can't for the life of me figure this out. the hard drive and information is completely in tact, what seems to be missing is the os software. for the longest time i was not able to g... Read more

Not sure if this is your problem, but it could well be. FSX can only be used on one machine, it checks its self with Microsoft. A new OS may be giving the wrong info. In which case you might need to contact Microsoft by phone. You may find more info at the following forums:- click here click hereI used to use FS9 but found my machine would not cope with FSX, so gave up on it. WIN 7 X 64 fails when trying to load MS updates. I see lots of users have the same problem and have tried many of the suggestions that I found on the forum. I have Malwarebytes and MS essentials installed.

Security updates for MS.NET are successful as are Definitions for MSE, the Bing Bar updates and even updates for Office 2010 (even though it is not loaded on my computer) but none of the Security Updates for Win7 x64 based systems will load. Every bootup for weeks it says ? you have 37-40 updates? If I tell it not to update, sometimes, somehow, it does it any way and in the middle of my word processing a box pops up that is counting down to a reboot. If I don?t walk away it just shuts down in the middle of my typing.

If I ignore the ?updates available? it changes my log off box from ?shut down? to ?load updates and shut down?. If I don?t pay close attention and change the default back to ?shut down? each time I get stuck loading all the same updates that didn?t load the day before. Dirty pool.

Of course if I tell it to load updates it will finish and then wants to shut down. During shut down it spends a very long time loading ?definitions?? Then when I reboot it spends even longer trying to load updates. I must walk away. I just came home for christmas and my parents showed me that their computer is failing to boot.

It posts normally, runs the windows splash screen, and then comes up to a black screen with a mouse cursor and hourglass, then 30 seconds later to just a mouse cursor - it can sit for an hour and never loads anything else. In safe mode, any type, it does the same thing but with the version number across the top and 'safe mode' in each corner.

In any mode there is no taskbar and no response from the start button, right clicking or ctrl+alt+del

I have tried, after making a backup of course, replacing explorer.exe and taskman.exe as well as the entire system and system32 folders(except config in system32 which is protected). I have loaded the hard drive in my own computer and it does the same thing. I ran scandisk on it while it was in my windows pc and it didn't tell me anything. The drive is divided into 3 partitions and I only scanned the C drive.

This is my parents computer and I do not have a hardware listing, it is relatively new but not high end, I can look for model numbers on anything that is relevant.

I have slaved the drive into another computer and backed up any data, I am just trying to avoid a full reformat and having to reinstall all the software.

any thoughts?

Hey There, i had a brilliant result last time i came onto here for help so here i am again. :D

Last week my computer was working fine until one day i had to turn my computer off by the mains (Not shut down)

i turned it on then i had the normal boot screen and everything coming up but no windows xp loading screen
i then waited for something to happen but there was no result. it just stayed at a black screen. i then restarted it and when into safe mode and that also failed to load because it stopped loading at a certain file.

i then put in the windows xp disk and tried to re-install windows xp back onto my system but the windows setup failed to load also.

one time i had a message showing that i had some boot file corrupt :S

Can someone help me get around this error and get my windows xp back up and running please.

i will be very greatfull

Answer:Windows Xp Fails To Load.

I have this issue every once and a while as well and can't seem to figure the problem out.
My issue is a little different though, my PC will lock up, and when I restart it'll load Windows, and then just go to a black screen like you described.
If I let it sit for 10-15 minutes it'll BSOD and restart and work fine though.
Have you tried letting it sit?

I had this window pop up whenever I shut down my computer.

dwwin.exe fails to load because Windows is shuttng down.

Something like that, heh. Now what can I do with this?

Answer:dwwin.exe fails to load??

As an initial step,go into msconfig/Start up and uncheck everything except the Firewall/AV.

If the error stops, then one of those start up programs is the cause.

If that doesn`t work -

See Norms posts here - HERE

"Had this problem, here is what I did:

Open regedit, go to:

If you have a logitech input device, or a Gravis gamepad input device, you need to
modify the value of the registry key so that the application starts up in *belownormal*
processor priority.

start /belownormal c:\windows\system32\Grxp4exe.exe /init

"start /belownormal" is the addition you will make to the beginning of the line..."

You`ll have to read the thread to find the exact keys you need.

If you can boot into safemode (Ctrl on mine) and run scandisk and defrag. May be worth running system file checker too, RUN/ type sfc and replace any corrupt files from os disc.

Hey,am trying to format my pc (desk top, mother board mecury) which was infected by viruses. Now its failing to load some fails load from CAB DRIV.
its only accepting windows help please

Answer:Windows xp fails to load

Okay first, what is the exact spelling of the file it is failing to load, and what is the exact text of the error message? At what point in the installation process does this happen.

One reason installs fail is because the CD is scratched, dirty, etc... Sometimes making a copy of a damaged disk will work. The copying process "fixes" the bad data before it gets burned to the new disk.

Also, a bad optical drive will mis-read and corrupt data during an install. Changing out the optical drive might fix the problem.

My windows vista home premium 64 bit sp2 4gb ram Medion system has stopped my device driver for my dvd-rom (HL-DT-ST DVD Ram GH22NS40) from working properly (having previously working well for 2years). This all happended after I connected a new iHBS212 bluray drive (which is havng the same issue & I have also disconnected this and still my old drive wont work).I now get an error code 39 message and a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark. I have updated the motherboard bios and windows vista OS and have tried unistalling and reinstallinmg the driver as well as searching for a solution online (I cannot access the drivers or firmware for either device from the liteon website as it gives the following error message "Database error: cannot connect to Database Can't connect to MySQL server on '' (4)MySQL Error Session halted."
If you are able to obtain the drivers and firmware for these drives and eith post a link or send me the files to try and resolve this that would be great or if you can offer any other advice - please get in touch. **NB** I have seen a simmilar issue for toshiba drives and see that the solutions suggested involve updating the drivers - hence the request.- Kind Regards - Dave

While attempting to put xp pro onto my computer after 1st reboot message reads-unexpected error(708) occured in d;\xpclient\base\boot\setup\setup.cPress any key to continueAfter pressing any key xp starts to load then saysA problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.PROCCESS1_INITIALISATION FAILEDDoes anyone have any ideas.I solved all problems listed by the compatability scan. I wondered if my Promise TX2 100 PCI ATA controller card may be causing the problem. It has my extra cd-rw drive connected to it.All help received with eternal grattitude.

Start the computer. The computer begins processing a set of instructions known as the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS). What is displayed depends on the BIOS manufacturer. Some computers display a progress bar that refers to the word BIOS, while others may not display any indication that this process is happening. As soon as the BIOS has finished loading, begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. Continue to do so until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears. NOTE: If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers will generate a "keyboard error" message. Please restart and try again. Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, scroll to and select create boot log. Then Start Normally...after the boot fails follow the advice above and choose Safe Mode Have a look at th bootlog.txt file on the C drive the final entries are nomally the fail. If so try going into Services and disable whatever is causing the problem...and/or any services you dont need. click here

My formerly cool computer continues to tick me off! I've been having a hardware problem, which I've traced to the video card slot, and am currently troubleshooting. The problem will cause my computer to completely fail to start - BIOS codes and all that. Working on it though, this isn't my question.

An unrelated problem has cropped up, though, perhaps related to problems I posted earlier...

Usually (but not always) after reboot, I'll get an error that msgina.dll failed to load. It suggests copying over a new one. I've done that, and it still fails to load on the first cold boot, but loads on reboot.

Anybody here seen this before, and can offer suggestions?

(on a side note, what do you use - besides an eraser - to clean the contacts on your AGP or PCI boards?)

Answer:msgina.dll fails to load

The file has something to do with Winlogon. Look HERE for some info on this. Also, a search of MSGINA on GOOGLE provided a wealth of info on why you are having your problem.

To clean contacts, I use Ethanol obtainable from a electronics shop, maybe Radio Shack It's the oils from your hands etc etc that can cause contacts to erode.

Let me begin by stating that I will donate $100 to Tech Support Guy if someone is able to *successfully* solve my problem.

First, some general info on my computer:
* Dell Latitude D510 Notebook (purcahsed in January of 2006)
* Windows XP Home - SP2
* 80GB 5400RPM HDD
* Pentium M Dothan, 1.86GHZ, 2 MEGB

Second, a little background on the events leading to the problem:
* I'm a heavy Internet user (about 16 hours per day of blogging, social media stuff, web based email, downloading music, files, video, etc.). Typically, I leave my computer continually running for several days at a time. Last week (Jan 08), I rebooted my system after about 3 days of continual use and this is what happened, and is still happening (step by step guide)

1) I turn on my computer and the computer begins to boot normally, from the Dell logo to the Windows XP logo
2) Once the Blue Welcome Screen appears, I see the following error message:
WLKeeper.exe - Application Error The Instruction at "0x00401490" referenced memory at "0x9a3412be". The memory could not be "written".
3) If I click cancel, the OS continues to load, even producing Microsoft's trademark startup sound and displaying the default background screen of the fields and mountains against a blue sky.
4) However, as the programs are loading and the explorer bar at the bottom of the screen loads, I receive a second error message stating:
Explorer.EXE - Application Error The instruction a... Read more
