Windows XP loading amazingly slow (details inside)

Question: Windows XP loading amazingly slow (details inside)

Okay, this computer is about a month old and already its loading extremely slow. The small yellow light below the power button is constantly flashing (indicating constant work) and the system is starting up extremely slow.

I've done the following since I got it:

Downloaded about 30 gigs of information
Tried making my computer uPnP compatible, which failed because I run through a modem
I turned off all non-microsoft services except the one that updates my anti-virus software
I turned off all the start-up programs except the ones I thought "might" be my keyboard so that my media controls would work, which I have no idea which one it was

I've thought about a few things. My computer might be acting wierd because of the uPnP stuff I did. It might be trying to use services that programs I activated on startup doesn't have (because I turned on anything that might be my keyboard)

I'll post my HijackThis log in a few moments.

Preferred Solution: Windows XP loading amazingly slow (details inside)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Windows XP loading amazingly slow (details inside)

One more thing, I've been getting attacked by some virus or trojan or something named "Helkern" and my virus scanners don't pick it up, they just alert me that it's blocked.

I used a template from "themeforest" but i changed it a lot and for some reason now it's loading very very very slow (some times 5-10 minutes) and some times it loads fast, and i tried all kine of stuff (moving the site to another domain, loading it in different browsers, disabling different plugins and more...) and i can't find the problem.
Please help me, this is the site: The Vox
(Again some times it loads fast so please try a few times if it's not loading slowly the first time...)

Answer:My website is loading amazingly slow and i can't find why!

There are a number of potential problems on your site, but by far the worst is your DNS lookup and response time which exceeds 2 seconds. That alone accounted for about 20% of the page loading time in my test, which came in at 10.985 seconds.
You're not fully taking advantage of browser caching to any degree and many of your images and other components are not compressed.
78.8% of the requests for your home page are image requests, but they take up 91.2% of the content loading to the browser.
So clearly talk to whoever controls your name servers to get the response time sorted out and seriously attack your images and make them more web friendly.
Your background image is far too large (796.8KB), although in your defence, it is loading after the main content which is good. But never-the - less, it takes a further 2.689 seconds to load (on top of the nearly 11 seconds), making over 13 seconds to absolute completion.
Finally, move all all your script loads to the bottom of the page.

Hello, community of Bleeping Computer. I have come to this forum for aid of a rather ongoing problem. Yesterday, the computer (which I am currently using), had a very terrible fan problem, which was localized to the Graphics card. After cleaning the fan out, with some compressed air, the fan problem was fixed, albeit temporarily. Ironically another problem has occurred. Before fixing the fan, the PC was running fine; the programs ran under reasonable conditions with great response time. Now, any internet browser like FireFox, or Internet Explorer is inoperable. They will not start up. To add, most of the processes that I happen to run, occur at a very sluggish pace, like a snail crawling down a skyscraper. Trying to load up pages on the internet or opening simple programs take minutes to open up. This shouldn't be happening. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Computer Specifications:Windows 7 Home premium editionProcessor: AMD Phenom II X4 910Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 43508 GBs or RAM Thanks for reading,--Shotgun Nova

I'm writing for help in regards to my husband's computer which has recently started running VERY slowly. The problem seems to specifically run around using Internet Explorer. His computer is an older, re-built IBM thinkpad but he has never had problems with it until recently. He runs Windows XP. Every time he opens Internet Explorer he can't block pop-ups and it's to the point that the program won't even open or stay open for more than a few minutes before it encounters an error and needs to shut down. His e-mail program (these are the two main programs he uses) Microsoft Outlook runs fine except when Internet Explorer is open. I ran a Hijack This log in hopes that maybe someone could help me find what's wrong and how to fix it!

hi, i have had help here before and seem to need it again. My problem is not with any pop-ups or malware it seems, but my computer is running VERY slow. It has only been in the past month or so that it has been running slow. Mainly it is Internet Explorer that is very slow. Other processes are slow, but not nearly as slow. Please let me know what other information will help.

I have an IBM T43 laptop with Windows XP Pro.
-Version 2002, Service Pack 2.
-Intel Pentium M Processor 2.00 GHz, 798 MHZ, 1.00 GB RAM (came with 512, I added a 512 stick myself). I have many programs on the computer, too many to list. (As an aside, Adobe Acrobat does not work anymore either and I cannot figure out how to remove it for the life of me. If I open a PDF with IE or Mozilla, it freezes both. Also, when opening a pdf with adobe, it appears in Arabic/computer language. Just on case this makes any difference.)

I have MacAfee antivirus and it has ben detecting a few viruses here lately. Most recently was today, it was an Exploit-MS06-014 Trojan running through explorer.exe.

Also, I have all the file logs available of my MacAfee scans, if needed. I will paste my most recent HiJackThis log.

I'm new here and trying my best to abide by the posting procedure.

I have run ad-aware, spybot search and destroy, and cw shredder. They all delete some spyware/adware but always say some could not be deleted. I tried running them in safe mode but still couldn't deleted all of it. Every once and a while when I get online, a new window will open saying I may be infected by the "black worm" virus and it advises me to download their anti virus software. I'm not sure if this is just a trick, so I haven't downloaded it. The popups range from casinos to online shopping(dunno if that helps or not). My desktop looks blurry and the icons have a strange grey shadow to them as if they're selected(but they're not). Homepage was also changed to c:\secure32.html it will not allow me to change it back.

I reinstalled Windows 7 yesterday. Upon reconnecting another drive which contained my personal files from a previous installation, the startup took ages and the drive became inaccessible after I logged in. I have two partitions on this drive, one containing my files and one containing old program files. The drive containing program files can be accessed just fine.

Here are some observations, details and steps I took so far:
The drive IS accessible through Linux. In fact, all (or most) of my files are intact.
chkdsk /r on Windows results in 10% read of the USN Journal, then fails at step 3 of 5. chkdsk /f fails at step 3 of 3, same issue with the USN Journal.
Right clicking on the "Local Disk" (it used to be called Files) and going to properties is so slow that I'd just stick with the command prompt.
It's an NTFS drive at 2.5 TB. Not very old.
This is not a driver issue, since half the drive managed to be recognized. Drivers were also update on reboot and that didn't help.

So my questions are as follows:
Am I in for a complete reformat? I have over 400 GB of personal files, and I made the mistake of not backing them up as time went, so I'd try and avoid reformatting at all cost. If it's absolutely necessary, I can try and back up everything useful.
Would this be a bad sector issue, or a USN issue. If it's an USN issue, is it safe to rebuild a USN Journal on this drive using fsutil, since the old one refuses to be read?

Well, I don't consider it a MAJOR MAJOR earth-shattering bug as it's a specific one but, even so, it does exist on both the machines I currently have Windows 7 on. I'll say they're both running a certain version of Windows 7 x64 and leave it at that. Now, about that bug...

If you open an Admin Command Prompt, and issue the following command:

chkdsk <driveletter>: /r

it seems as if chkdsk just goes a bit bonkers in terms of memory usage but only on non-system drives - my system drive is C:, and the command works fine on it, but on non-system drives, internal, external, it doesn't matter, formatted with NTFS, it goes a bit insane. How insane? Well, here's what it looked like after just running the command for 30 seconds (then killing the process):

So, it's worth checking out if you happen to be running a certain version of Windows 7 x64, at least. I do believe the issue exists in both x86 and x64 versions, but I can't verify that as I only use x64 versions.

It doesn't affect the system drive, as noted, and it does not affect FAT/FAT32 drives either. But I tested it on my secondary partition as well as a 160GB NTFS-formatted external USB drive and it happens regardless, just not on the system partition C:. It occurs when chkdsk hits Stage 4 - that's when you'll really see the RAM usage skyrocket fast. If the process is allowed to continue, it will consume all the RAM you've got, and finally end with a BSOD ... Read more

Im using Cogeco Cable and recently my Internet has been going very slow. From times to times, I couldn't connect to MSN after the first few tries, or my Mozilla Firefox browser would not connect or it would take forever to load(after few tries it would work and connect again). I uninstalled my Cogeco Secure Services Antivirus/Firewall and yet I still have the problems. I don't have many programs running background at all.

Is there a way that I can check if something is blocking or limiting my internet?

In my Event Viewer, under System, there is a warning with description that says "TCP/IP has reacheed the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TPC connects attempt." Would this be the problem?

This happens on multiple sites so I assume it is my comp. I have read the FAQ and done all that is asked with the exception of the Macaffee program as I've had a bad experience with them before. Just need some help hereMy computer has just slowed down to a crawl. It happened when I got home from being out of town for a few days, before I left, my computer was just fine, my computer has an AMD Athlon II 2.80 GHz, 4 CPU cores. 4 GB of RAM, ATI Radeon graphics card etc. What it is doing is, it goes through the BIOS just like it's always been, then, when it is about to start windows, it just goes to a black screen for about 30 seconds, then "Starting Windows" comes up for like 5 minutes without anything there, then after a while, the windows logo comes on top of the "Starting WIndows" and it just hangs. I also have an Ubuntu OS installed on a separate Hard drive on the computer if that helps diagnose the problem,It is a custom made computer made by me about a year and a half ago, never had any problems until just now. As I am typing this now my computer is still hanging at the "Start Windows" screen for roughly about 20 minutes.I try to view the files on the Windows 7 HDD from Ubuntu and it has trouble, has my Hard disk failed?Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:My computer has just become amazingly slow.

When I start up my computer, it takes a very long time to get going.  Like, I have a floating mouse for several minutes before the profiles pop up on the first blue screen.  Then my background loads several minutes before any icons or before the computer will let me do anything.  I have run a computer defragmentation, and I have stopped many of the start-up programs, but to no avail.
Even after the computer starts running, things go slow.  Any program that I try to start takes a long time to get going (once it gets going it normally seems to function okay.)
I may be wrong, but it also seems like my computer somewhat randomly dims and brightens the screen now.
Also, some programs have just acted odd/not worked.  For instance, I tried to install a new printer to the computer, and it wouldn't read the drivers.
I am running a HP HDX Premium Series laptop with Windows 7.
Thank you for you help!

Hello, I have partially recovered from a virus/trojan that created an Internet Explorer crash. However, while my computer no longer crashes like it used to, It is running incredibly slow.

There is a good amount of lag even while typing this. and doing two things at once like listening to music and being on the internet slows down even more and freezes both. I noticed this a bit before when listening to music on youtube, the player would stutter and freeze. Now it is almost unbearable to even be on this computer. Can you help?

Hello everyone,

I consider myself a person who is fairly good at operating a computer both software and hardware wise.
Heres my problem. When I got back from my 2 month stay in Japan I had a lot of windows and anti-virus updates I had to install. I spent about an hour or so updating and things were fine. My computer was running smoothly it could easily handle games like Counter Strike Source and World of Warcraft but then it began to slow down.

It is now at a point where it takes about 30 seconds to load up the task manager and it is not recognizing devices like my iPod (so I don't have any way to upload screen shots of the task manager and performance logs).

I tried reformatting my computer and it was running smoothly until I ran windows updates, updated my anti-virus (Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite), downloaded the drivers for my ATI video card, and reinstalled all the programs that were on it previously.

I'm not sure what information would help so please let me know and I will post it as soon as I can.

Computer Specs:
HP Pavilion DV8000
Windows XP Media Center Edition
AMD Turion 64 2.0 Ghz processors
512 RAM
2 80 GB hard drives
ATI 200M video card

Thanks for the help!

Answer:Amazingly Slow Computer - No Virus/spyware Found

If your computer seems to be slow, read Slow Computer/Browser? Check here first; it may not be malware. There are reasons for slowness besides malware - i.e. disk fragmentation, disk errors, corrupt system files, too many startup programs, unnecessary services running, not enough RAM, dirty hardware components, etc. As your system gets older it becomes filled with more files/programs and has a natural tendency to slow down so cleaning and regular maintenance is essential.

Right, so my mother has had quite an issue with her computer for a long time. I never use the PC, so I haven't been able to actually experience all the symptoms. I believe she has a virus. And these are the symptoms I've experienced.
- Random freezing and crashing.
- Computer refuses to install Windows Updates. Even something as little as 1.0mb
- Couldn't install anti-virus software as if something was blocking it from finalizing the process.
- Avast anti-virus scans hangs on one thing indefinitely as if something is stopping it on purpose
I have tried using Malware Bytes to scan for anything but to no avail. And the avast just refuses to work.
This is what the DDS.txt has found.

Trying to access one of my hard drives resulted in My Computer locking up, and upon ending the process explorer seems to get shut down. Task manager wouldn't come up so I'm forced to reset. If anyone has any input please share.

I'm hoping this was just a random fluke and I'm being paranoid about nothing. Both MalwareBytes and Avast have come up with absolutely nothing on my main drive, though I'm still scanning my backup drive.

Weird, all those problems stopped on their own, guess it was just a fluke.

First off, I have a Windows Premium Home Vista One, 32bit.

My computer was acting up and had frequent random shutdowns, so I decided to do the system recovery and restore it to factory settings. Everything was going great, I was putting all my files back into the computer when the frequent crahses started coming up. They would either come up after I tried rebooting the computer or about 5 minutes after I'm logged in and everything. It's where the blue screen comes up and usually either of these messages comes up with of course other text:

I heard it somehing to do with my drive or something, I'd appreciate any insight and help on this recurring issue. I'm really not that great with computers.

- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ?
- the original installed OS on the system? YES
- an OEM or full retail version? - OEM = came pre-installed on system - Full Retail = you purchased it from retailer
- What is the age of system (hardware)? 4 years old
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) 5 years old

Hey everybody!

I recently managed to get my computer loaded with a number of different viruses. To make a long story short, I downloaded/ran an .exe program that I later found out was full of viruses/keyloggers.

I ran a bunch of scans (Malwarebytes, Avast, McAfee, then after I uninstalled McAfee, Kaspersky. Now everything seems to be back to normal. It might just be me, but my computer still seems a tiny bit slower than it was before all this happened (I'd like to put emphasis on the possibility that it could just be me being cautious). I'm also not sure if there are any keyloggers left, so I would really appreciate it if you guys could look through my logs or not to see if I'm clean.

Known [previous?] Viruses: Right after I opened up that deadly .exe file, my links from the google results page started taking me to RANDOM pages, with nothing to do with what I searched for. Shortly after, EVERY program that I would open up would have a few "error messages" before it, with just little pop up windows saying "Error C:/blahblah", and only after I exited out of 2 or 3 of those, would the program would open.
Also, I ran a virus scan the a couple nights back after I infected my computer, and when I looked at it in the morning, "Windows Police Pro" was up. Knowing this was a fake program, I closed out of it and deleted it via HKEYblah, and the task manager (and I also deleted the WPP files on my local disk). Next morning, it was back aga... Read more

Ok well before I start off, I'd like to say that I have cleared the main annoyances of my problem. I registered here because I still think, however, that I am vulnerable to attacks. The firewall within Spy Sweeper is still picking up and blocking things.

The problem I had before included many different trojans and spyware, that got wrapped into a single download my sister got. Apparently she doesn't know not to open 21kb .exe files...

The precautions I've taken so far were as follows:
1. Turned off my internet, I knew a trojan would likely redownload itself until all of its virus and spyware files were removed. I put my internet back on when I thought this was the case.

2. Did a scan with AVG Anti-Virus Free, and it was unable to remove most of what it found... What remained, I was able to delete by finding manually with the help of the AVG logs. (Details about viruses will be below)

3. Did a scan with WebRoot Spy Sweeper, it found a lot of things and got rid of them. (Details about this will be below)

4. Found some IE plugins that didn't belong with the Spy Sweeper's Browser Helper Objects section and removed them. For the first time after doing that, I finally stopped having a hijacked homepage.

Anyway, the problems were as follows:
1. Homepage was jacked by one of a million different "your pc is insecure" programs that tried to sell me on scams. This one took me to uptodateprotection(dot)com (don't want to make a link), as well as syssecurityp... Read more

Additionally, 2 more of the places my firewall has blocked are and "OWNUSA(dot)INFO" (used caps).

I'm posting this from safe mode w/ networking as I don't know where else to turn.
I did a sfc scan and it stopped at 57% and I followed online instructions to obtain the sfc.txt. Here are the files unable to be fixed. The 2 corrupted are bcdedit.exe and wucltux.dll

Another thing to note. I've had this Lenovo y580 laptop for about a month and a half now and I've had to use "one key recovery" to wipe everything about 3 times. This thing will work fine for like 2 weeks then out of nowhere all these error messages and applications will start crashing. The HDD and memory health is fine from all scans from lenovo support they performed.

I only have warranty for hardware and I've been on the phone w/ them about a dozen times total. Now they want me to do a clean install by sending in recovery disks which would cost $60. Software warranty is extra $ which I'm very tight on. If I could manually try to fix this it'd be a godsend. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks. I also use MSE and malwarebytes so don't think its a virus it must be a flaw in the system. Thanks very much

Answer:SFC Details inside. How do I fix these corrupted files?

Hello JJ, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Here's a clean copy of those files from my system in the ZIP file below. After you extract (drag and drop) them from the ZIP file to your desktop and unblock them, the TIP box below will explain how to replace them in your C:\Windows\System32 folder.

You will need to take ownership and set permissions to "Allow" your account "Full Control" of the original file in your current installation before you will be allowed to replace it with the extracted copy.

If the system file is in use and you are unable to replace it with the extracted copy, then: Open a Command Prompt at boot.
Do steps 4B to 4D in this tutorial first to verify the drive letter of your Windows 7 drive. It's not always C: at boot.
Type in the command below to copy and replace the original file with the extracted replacement file.
Copy /Y "full path of extracted replacement file" "full path of original Windows 7 system file"
For example:
If the extracted replacement uDWM.DLL is on my desktop, then I would use type this in the command prompt at boot and press enter.

Copy /Y "C:\Users\User-name\Desktop\uDWM.dll" "C:\Windows\System32\uDWM.dll"

Hope this helps,

Alright, I am using Windows Vista.

Since about three days ago I CANNOT logon into Msn Live Messenger nor the online to check my e-mails.

It seems this problem also occurs when I try to buy things online like Ebay.

Msn Messenger gives me this error code: 80048820 (Extended: 80048439)

I tried all the suggest things in the Help Topic. Nothing worked.

The last suggestion is to :"Reregister the SSL security libraries"

In Windows Vista, click the Start button, and then click in the Start Search box.
Type each of the following commands, and then press ENTER. After each command is executed successfully, you will receive a "DllRegisterServer succeeded" message. Wait until you receive this message before continuing to the next command.

* REGSVR32 softpub.dll
* REGSVR32 wintrust.dll
* REGSVR32 initpki.dll
* REGSVR32 Rsaenh.dll
* REGSVR32 Mssip32.dll
* REGSVR32 Cryptdlg.dll
* REGSVR32 Dssenh.dll
* REGSVR32 Gpkcsp.dll
* REGSVR32 Slbcsp.dll
* REGSVR32 Sccbase.dll

When I enter about half of the entries I get an error(The ones in bold):

So should I re-download the missing stuff? I don't understand wintrust because I redownloaded another one and it still doesn't work.

I really need help, hope I was clear enough.

P.S Googling the error code is a waste of time -_-

I have a GF8200a mobo.
I bought some ram a while back and recently one of the sticks kinda stopped working so I sent for a replacement. During that time I had 3 1 gig sticks of ram in this mother board working fine. Today I got my replacement stick from kingston and I put it in the 4th slot and went to boot the computer. It would start up but no display on the screen and none of my usb hardware (mouse keyboard) would come on. I removed the stick went back to my old configuration and got the same issue. Finally I started changing how many sticks I had in what configuration and found that if I had only 2 sticks in the computer would start fine no matter which 2 sticks were in. But as soon as I go to add a 3rd stick of RAM no matter which stick it is I would get the same issue as above. Computer starts but no display or USB.

What could this problem be.

My OS is Windows 8
I use Google Chrome as my default browser but this problem persists with Firefox and IE as well. As of right now,, and will not load at all. The worst of it all is these are the three sites that I most commonly use. I was able to use all of them perfectly fine last night before i went to bed, and now they will not load at all, while other sites load perfectly fine. When i run a ping test through the CMD prompt for these sites

Here are some troubleshooting tips I have tried already:
Check if theirs a browser update (none needed)
Clear cache, cookies, history, etc...
Run a malware scan (0 threats detected)
Run a Virus scan (o threats detected)
Try opening page while using https instead of http
Flush DNS through CMD prompt
Once again only these select few websites wont load while all others work perfectly fine..
Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated. This has been going on for nearly 3 hours now.

Okay well the problem is my computer keeps freezing while I play games, directx games to be in specific but i havnt played any non direct x games.

Games I've played NBA live 2005, War3, CS:S, i never seem to freeze playing CS:S so it could be something else.

Another thing that could be taken note as that when I turn on my computer, my comp will freeze when it tests the memory in bios. Like it won't even say 'xxx OK' it'll just freeze. Then I restart and then it'll do it, but this is only sometimes, and ussaully always happens after I freeze during gameplay and have to restart.

I've tried formatting, and it didn't work, I've also tried uninstalling my firewire card that I installed recently which I thought was causing the problem, didn't help either. So anyone got any clues? I ran memtest on 700mb of my 1gb ram and all seems okay.

I've attached my DXDiag if you want to take a look at my system specs.

Answer:My Comp is unstable please help details inside

Sounds like a hardware problem. Bad memory or motherboard. Do you have more than one stick of RAM? If so try running the computer with just one. Some motherboards are picky about which brand and type of RAM you use.

I imagine you have enough RAM to not be causing problems.

Hey guys. I currently have AVG Free Edition 8.0 installed on my computer and my lastest can, which was last night, came up with multiple infections.

Details of My Computer:
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
My account is an administator account
AV/AS Program is AVG Free Edition

After AVG detect the infections and attempted to clean the infections, it prompted me to reboot. After reboot the infections re-appeared. I downloaded and installed SpyBot and ran its scan and Immunized my computer but the problem still exists. I seemed to have opened up a hornets nest I guess.

These are the infections AVG is picking up:

These infections seem to be infecting my .dll's and .exe's as AVG reports.

A little background:

Around a year ago I had signed up for Private Internet Access, which installs the TAP9 driver (OpenVPN I believe). I started to get blue screens on my machine (Win7 Ultimate x64), so I installed it on a 2nd Windows machine (identical OS). Same thing. As soon as I started the VPN, blue screen. I installed VirtualBox VM software, same thing on both machines. After trying various things, I ended up sending the motherboard back to ASRock (It was a Z87 Professional). They found nothing wrong, but I ended up doing a fresh install of Win7 and everything was great for about a year. Then I started having machine lockups and found out that my SSDs (Samsung 840 EVOs) were victim to the slowdowns that a lot of people were complaining about. I tried upgrading the firmware and running their "fix", then the blue screens started to happen again, this time at random times. Removed the drives, did a fresh install onto some WD Black drives, and everything was working fine. I thought the motherboard had finally crapped out as even with the onboard LAN ports, the network icon would end up with a yellow exclamation mark after about 5 minutes of usage. I had to use an add-on card to get it to work, so I decided to just build a pretty much brand new system.

I just built it today:
ASRock Extreme6/ac / Intel i7-5930K (brand new)
32Gb G.skill DDR4 (new)
Samsung 850 Pro (apparently these drives did not have the same problems as the 840s) (new) ... Read more

So, my laptop has been freezing. But not exactly randomly. I can run AIM for roughly 5-10min without a freeze-up (aka, nothing works/opens, but I can still move the mouse). OR I can open up firefox and it will run no problems on about half of the sites/forums I usually browse. And lastly, I have tried to scan the computer several times, but it freezes up almost exactly halfway through (three times now), and then I can press the "Quarantine" button and it will freeze again halfway through deleting what's there (just tracking cookies).

I'm one of those people with a secondary computer, one for gaming, one for everything else. My laptop is that everything else computer, and it's quite annoying having to alt-tab out of my precious games. Worst case, I may resort to re-formatting.

If you need anymore information, I'd be happy to give it. I don't know the exact specs of the computer, as I really never cared what they were, being my secondary computer, and I can't open the system info without it freezing, so I did the best I could copying specs from a website then changing what I remembered. Ok Techies, I need some real help on this one....

Older Gateway P3 500mhz last week was working fine...
I don't know the exact details it is my mom's PC and I am giving it a whirl at it... Was working fine then one day she says everytime she boots after bios black screen says"no OS found"

So I pick up thePC and bios won't and can't find a Hard drive.
Maybe bad drive, I remove and replace it with a good one w/ OS already installed.. NO OS found..
I insert Windows Xp disc in CD rom and it loads drivers and then begin to install, next "windows can't continue no HD detected.

Back to bios check Periph.. no primary (none)
secondary shows (cd rom)

I try swapping out

Hard drives..
New ribbon cable...
Switch IDE spots on mobo...
Try to run HD & CD on same line set one for slave.. (didn't work)
Try hooking up HD and remove CD
Bios still shows None for primary and secondary...

Bios recognizes CD roms... but won't detect any HD's...

I try to reset Bios (nvidia) w/ jumper... still same
Removed battery cleaned contacts ... still won't find HD
Ok I'm at wits end .. can't think of anything else to try...

Beg and plead anyone w/ ideas feel free to post...

Truly appreciate any help and suggestions

Answer:Bios/PC can't find HD details inside

Have you tried a different power connector on the hard drive? Also try entering the hard drive parameters manually in the BIOS.

Good luck.

On a side note, it is possible that the CMOS battery is dead. On some older machines if the battery goes the BIOS won't detect the hard drive.

This error message appears after Windows XP tries to load.

"Stop: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000135 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down."

I've tried rebooting in Safe Mode and Debugging mode. This message still appears. I've tried cleaning the inside, dusting it, putting a fan at it, and plugging it into different power sources. Still won't work.

I recently cleaned out a few viruses (VBS Solow and its variants), and this occurred after turning the computer on a few hours later.

Any help would be appreciated greatly.

ok, 3 days ago my computer was working completely fine. that night i downloaded a zip file for a video. the next morning my comp told me that i needed to install "important updates" [which i think was just the windows sp2] and when the computer restarted i needed to install the latest version of java so i let that install and update.

then after all the updates were installed my computer started acting weird. i couldnt open pages like,, or my online school which is, i also can't open pages where there are multiple images. i've tried to uninstall everything that updated so it was back to the way it was, but my browsers are unable to download and they're still unable to open myspace and the other sites. i use opera as my main browser, firefox when opera doesn't work, and chrome as my last resort. but i also have safari and IE installed but im unable to use them

i've tried to do a system restore to 3 days ago but it says the only restore point was 8/24/09 at 10:24 am, so that wont work.

so is there a way to make my computer work normally again? all i really want is to be able to download again and open the webpages b/c i REALLY REALLY need my school page to open any help will be much appriciated

Hey guys... I really haven't had this problem before. My internet is very good - DSL. For the last 2 days, it's been running VERY slowly - it's been taking one minute or more to load every webpage. Downloads that have went 140kb/s are now going 500bytes - 2kb/s. My Google customized homepage takes 2 minutes to load I've run a spyware/adware scan, and it's still not working. I really don't recall doing anything that might have caused this.

I am running Windows XP.

I WOULD post a hijack this scan, but the download goes SO slow, and in the middle of the download I get the following error message:
Internet Explorer cannot download from [or other download source]

An unexpected error has occurred.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

How many of you that actually use Vista, use it as your only OS?

Obviously if your job requires you using XP or something else, that doesn't count.

As your personal choice at home or wherever, how many of you use Vista as your only OS, without dual-booting or anything like that?

There is a reason why I ask... I'm curious how many people that have actually given Vista a shot have switched.

Okay everyone, I will post a quick history and get to down to business quickly.
I am usually a responsible adult in terms of computer protection, this time I wasn't. I stupidly downloaded and ran .exe files from applications-station trying to get free software and I regret it and I admit my stupidity.
I now have a problem with ad pop-ups in IE and Firefox(main browser), But more importantly I am worrid about other malware and possible key-loggers.
All help is greatly appreciated.
P.S. A full reset of FireFox seems to have rid of the pop-ups.
P.S.S. I will also post a MBAM log scan which I ran after the incident,it found ~60 potential threats. Maybe it will be of some use.
P.S.S.S. I see that others have been suggested NOT to post an MBAM log unless requested. I have removed the log for now. Feel free to request it.
P.S.S.S.S. Apparently it would be best if I did nothing and just waited for help. well... derp...
P.S.S.S.S.S. I should really stop adding these

So, I got a new laptop last week, and ever since unboxing it, I've been getting two different BSODs:
This usually happens when DISK is at 100% usage, by whatever reason. There have been a number of different programs or even System that has caused it to be near 100% usage.

For the questions:
? 64 BIT
? What was original installed OS on system? - WINDOWS 8
? Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)? - Came pre-installed.
? Age of system (hardware) - 1 week old.
? Age of OS installation - have you re-installed the OS? - Has never done so. So 1 week old.

? CPU - 8 GB Memory, Intel Core i7 Haswell
? Video Card - Intel
? MotherBoard - It's the one in default Lenovo IdeaPad y410P
? Power Supply - Lenovo, 110W standard U.S.

? System Manufacturer - Lenovo
? Exact model number (if laptop, check label on bottom) - Y410P

Will attach the logs after I finish installing 7Zip.

Hi, recently installed a new cpu motherboard and graphics card. Reinstalled windows, and now the machine is crashing occasionally. It crashes anywhere between instant on start up or 40 minutes into browsing. I uploaded the zip file per your BSOD posting instructions.

I've done a little researching on my own and I think it may have to do with the Realtek audio controller conflicting with my nvidia graphics card in some way. Although since the computer is blue screening I'm hoping your diagnoses might help me figure out if that is actually the problem.

Ever since i bought the computer, it has been a little weird.  every once in a while the computer would freeze up for a little bit and then resume running fine after 10 seconds.  As time went on the frequency of these events increased and the length of the lag increased. I recieved a few bsods with "internal power error".  I replaced the 750 watt psu with an 800 watt psu which didnt completely fix my problem, but changed it.  Boot is still slow, but occasionally it goes quite fast (still not as fast as it should) and the computer runs smoother with less freezing but it still happens and it is still a nuisance.  I have tried several clean windows installs.  i got some errors and warnings in the event viewer i will post that text below the system specs.  chkdsk didnt help either, im thinking about doing another one.

Okay, so I sort of solved this issue, I think, but I don't have any clue why it happened. Which is why I'm posting this.

First, I booted my computer, it got past the bios setup but then the boot screen was very dark, blackened, if you will. Then it didn't load into windows, just a black screen. The monitor light was still on. It would not boot into safe mode.
No recent hardware changes have been made.

I then press the reset button. Goes through boot up, except this time at the windows boot screen, it shows it fine. But, it goes to a blank screen again before entering windows.

Okay, so I'm lost, I reset the bios, I then make sure everything is plugged in. I unplug my power cord, hold the power button down for 30 seconds. I do everything I can think of if it's hardware issue. Same problem occurs.

Finally I run the XP repair. I reboot and it works.

Did XP repair fix the issue, or is it a coincidence? What made the problem happen in the first place? And, have any of you heard of this issue before?

I appreciate all your help.

Answer:Weird boot up issue (details inside)

Im not trying to be funny, but... Are you still having this problem? If you fixed it then what are we trying to help you with? I mean its a Windows PC, sometimes this happens. This has happend to my PC and a cold boot or pressing reset is all it needed and it was fine. Now, if it hapens every time thats another story.

Regarding the Windows screen coming up, and then a few moments of a black screen before the login prompt or desktop display, that is a normal function. Nothing to fix there.

Security Software: ??? Make sure to install security software. I recommend either of these:Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows coupled with Malwarebytes. Do not start the free trial of Malwarebytes. Just use the standalone version, update it, and scan your computer once a week with Malwarebytes and with Microsoft Security Essentials.

Good and Free system security combination.

After installing your security software, update it, and then run full scans today with each program. Report back the results of the scans.
Crashes are DirectX/graphics card related. DirectX comes installed with Windows, so this may indicate Windows corruption. It may also be that you have corrupted drivers or a graphics card hardware problem.
If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

Check Windows for corruption. Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker up to three times to fix all errors with a restart in between each. Post back if it continues to show errors after a fourth run or if the first run comes back with no integrity violations. Use OPTION THREE of SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker to provide us with the sfcdetails.txt file if errors occur.
Follow the steps for Diagnosing basic problems with DirectX. To re-install your display card drivers as outlined in the DirectX link, use the following steps.

Hi, my ATMT MP3 player is completely unresponsive, however, the blue backlight is on with a central icon that usually appears when I'm loading music onto it. The icon is a tiny computer linked to usb or something. I had just added a song into the music_me file when my computer had problems and the MP3 window on the computer went white, so I disonnected the MP3 from my computer. It is now stuck on this screen and I have tried connecting it to my computer again and charging it and nothing is working. I am really concerned can anyone help????? So, recently when attempting to log on to my computer, I found that it prompted me for a log on password, which i had disabled the last time I had the computer running. A blank password did not work, and my old password did not work. Neither did any of my normal passwords for other services. After no luck, I decided to remove the CMOS battery for an hour to make it forget the passwords.

After reinstalling the CMOS battery, I attempted to boot the computer. Nothing appeared via my Monitor and the PC refused to stop trying to run the empty CD drive. I placed in a Windows installation CD to see if that would resolve my issue. It did not. (It may be worth noting here that my drive, despite having proper firmware and all up to date drivers, is not capable of reading 90% of CDs, nor burning CDs, but has no problems with reading or burning DVDs)

I then shut down the computer again, removed plugs and such as per usual to avoid ESD, flushed the power out and unplugged the CD Drive. Hooked everything up again and attempted to boot. With no hookup to the CD drive, the CD drive did not attempt to read, but the computer simply ran doing nothing. It did not attempt to read the floppy drive (It is a newer computer, I always install a FDD for repair purposes.) Nor did it attempt to read the HDD.

OK, firstly I'm not sure If I posted this in the right topic. But I tried. Anyway, my computers sound works fine (so I don't want many people saying things like "turn your speakers on" or "check the volume") because I can listen to downloaded media and itunes/windows media player. The problem is when I got to websites like youtube, and myspace. I can watch videos but no sound plays for either. Its getting quite annoying.

I recently lost over 500 episode of anime (about 100 gbs of info on my External Hard Drive). My DivX player (like Real Player) wasn't working so I downloaded it again and reinstalled it in the same place. It asked "Would you like to save over repeating files?" or something along those lines and i clicked "Yes to All". Somehow it deleted all of my anime episodes in the folders and now i really need help. Would anyone happen to know a software that is free i can use to get it all back, i am really pissed and i cant find anything without paying from 40$ and up... I need to find a free recovery program that will recover up to 100gb of info. Please help!

Oh yeah and if anyone knows any alternate ways to fix this please tell me that as well.

You can use EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard. It's not free but I think it worth to try. You can use the demo first.

Hello, this morning I received a blue screen upon turning my PC on, this 'page fault in non paged area' happens during the windows loading screen so I'm unable to get into my PC to get any real information for you guys, I'll write down my PC specs and what I was doing on my PC yesterday that might've caused this, I hope it helps!

PC specs

Windows 7 64bit
Motherboard - Asus Z87-k
CPU - Intel i5-4670k ( I've tried booting in both the stock setting of the CPU and the oc'd setting, neither work
Graphics card - Nvidia 780gt 4gb
RAM - 8gb (2 sticks) DDR3 1600mhz corshair 9-9-9-24
SSD - Samsung 840 pro series 128gb (OS is on this)
HDD - Seagate barracuda 2tb
CPU cooler - Corsair h80
PSU - corsair 750w

Yesterday on my PC I installed the latest windows update and ran 2 games for the first time (apologies if this means nothing )

I had bsod issues in the past but they were due to an over clocked graphics card which has since been reset and I've been all clear since

The only other thing I can give you guys is a picture of the bsod that I took if that's of any use?

Thanks for reading this, I'd be very greatful for any help on this issue, I'm not too knowledgeable on PC's but I will do my best to give you more information if you need it, cheers guys!

EDIT - I ran windows startup repair and it said it couldn't fix my problem automatically

Answer:bsod happening during windows loading screen (more info inside)

Just a quick update, I triedbooting in safe mode and the bsod still happened

Any help would really be appreciated!

Hi, the portable version 2.9.0 runs on my fully updated Win 10 (see my specs 'My Computer' for which build I'm using).

Which is your build?
(Windows key + R, winver)

Suggest you try a clean boot and retry; if you are running the Creator's build or an Insider build I suppose there could be some incompatibility.

windows - What exactly is the scope of Access Violation ? - Stack Overflow
(Note - there are many duff web-sites which give spurious info if you search for 0xc0000005)

Note that the portable version writes a dat file to where the exe resides.

I have suddenly started to have numerous problems with my computer. here are the details of those problems (as best as I can describe in this frustrated state):

1.) cannot access task manager

2.) my computer keeps telling me that one of my drives has absolutely no space(which is not true). This problem is preventing me from being able to download norton anti-virus 2006, even when I try to select another drive to download to.

3.) some websites are suddenly not appearing correctly.

4.) When I try to go through the process as described on this forum to search my computer and remove some of the possible problems, I run into trouble every single step of the way. This includes when trying use any of the virus/spyware search programs. Likewise, I cannot even download hijackthis.

As a result, I have no idea where to even begin in fixing this problem. Any help will get immensely appreciated.

Hello friends, I am in need of some desperate help, and I wasn't sure where to post this. =x
I've been experiencing this problem for over a day now, so I'm just going to post the "logs" I've written down as I've gone through the process of trying to find a solution.

Background: I've had this computer for almost a year, and have never experienced a problem with it before yesterday.

My Specs: i5-4670 @ 3.4GHz, Adata XPG V2 8GB DDR3 1600, Gigabyte GA-Z87-HD3, Thermaltake Smart Series 750w PSU, NVIDIA GTX 760 2GB, and I run Windows 7.

Note: The main problem at this point is that when I load my computer, the only thing that shows is my desktop wallpaper and nothing else - icons, taskbar, etc. don't load. When I try to Ctrl+Alt+Del, the screen goes black and I hit either spacebar or Enter to get back to the unresponsive desktop wallpaper screen once again.
The problem all started when I attempted to boot up the computer one morning, the lights turned on for a split second and immediately turned off once again. After searching Google thoroughly, it appeared as if this was the computer attempting to stop from short circuiting. I personally have no experience with computer hardware whatsoever, so I was baffled as to what to do, as the computer would not start up anymore. My father simply unplugged everything, took a look inside of the computer, switched on something that appeared to be an alternate on/off thinger, and hooked it up once again. This time, the computer lo... Read more

Hello experts,

During the past 2 weeks i've been having some troubles with my brand new laptop and i want to make sure that this is not a hardware malfunction. Since my experience with debugging windows errors and troubleshooting such issues is pretty limited and basic i would like you to help me out with this before returning the unit to the vendor.

ROG edition G752VT laptop
8gb ram (1 stick)
gtx 970m
1tb hdd
no ssd
The only attached peripheral is a logitech m185 wireless mouse.
Nvidia drivers are latest (the only one system notified me needs update).

The laptop crashes, everything freezes for about 10 seconds or so then it automatically restarts. This only happened while having lineage2 (game) in background and browsing facebook using chrome, this time i had a steam download happening. Every bsod i got happened 1 second after i clicked a facebook or youtube link that opened a new chrome tab (not that it matters that much). The laptop came with w10 preinstalled and i was the first person to start it. I do not have any dubious, pirated or black market programs since i like to keep my system clean.

I'd like to point out that i got the laptop yesterday, had some issues with CPU load in background, it was about 20% used while doing nothing. Tracing the issue lead me to some ACPI.sys file that was using these resources unnecessarily. googling around i found out that this might be caused by a variety of different drivers/programs/situations.

Today , the CPU was in... Read more

So I very recently built my own desktop, everything was running well. Installed window 7 Ultimate and from there tonnes of drivers and windows updates popped up, the usual. However, at decently spaced times it would BSOD, but it's become more and more frequent I've tried to see if it was the drivers, most if not all are up to date. There's no issue with the hardware, I've tried hunting through the dump files but I don't know what I'm looking for. Any help on fixing this would be amazing, I'm so tired of this uphill battle.

I managed to grab a quick pic of the BSOD, hopefully it helps, sorry about the flash.

As per the instructions I've attached the folder containing the dumps and other goodies. Anything extra you need from me, let me know.

Answer:BSOD Random Times, Extra Details inside.

Upon some digging of my own while waiting, i discovered that there is apparently 2 things causing the issue through BlueScreenViewer, and have been consistent throughout all the BSOD's:

I'll attach BSV's full details of the most recent one.

I've looked into some fixes but none of them have worked, would anyone here have an idea of how to fix this? It would be greatly appreciated.

My computer was acting funny when I tried to log into to check the status of my orders. It kept kicking me back to the login screen - and it had done this on another fundraising website I manage. Anyway, my Spysweeper software (came with the laptop from Circuit City) had expired and so I went into it and renewed it. During the renewal a window popped up and said something like 'do you want to clean your registry files to keep your computer running smoothly' or something like that so I, thinking it was part of my update to spysweeper, I said yes. It came back and said I had something like 357 'problems' in my registry and it would clean them up. So I clicked OK. I know, dumb, dumb, dumb. Anyway, since then I get repeated pop up windows, one for each .exe file currently running in processes that says "xxxxx(whatever program it is listing).exe BAD IMAGE The next line says, "The application or DLL c:/windows/system32/mazamuli.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette"

I've run spysweeper, and norton antivirus and it says it has found viruses, spyware etc and deleted them, but whenever I restart the computer it is back. The only way to get past it and to actually do something on the computer is to X out of each window until it runs through every .exe and finally stops. Occasionally another pops up during computer use but not like at first. I've pasted my hijack log bel... Read more

With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have the Windows Recovery Console pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.
Go to Microsoft's website =>

Select the download that's appropriate for your Operating System

Download the file & save it as it's originally named.
Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools

Drag the setup package onto ComboFix.exe and drop it.

Follow the prompts to start ComboFix and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Recovery Console.

At the next prompt, click 'Yes' to run the full ComboFix scan.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Here is my hardware that's relevant to this issue.ASUS Motherboard, don't remember what model or brand specificallyAMD Athlon 64 X2 processor.Radeon X1600 video card2GB OCZ Gold RAM660W I think 24 pin PSU with one of those 4pin connectors. So we had a power outage as I said in the subject.  Everything in the house turned back on just fine except my computer.  I tried testing the power supply and every light lit up except the +5v LED, which I don't know if that means anything because I don't know how to read a power supply tester precisely.  The power supply will not and I mean will not power up at all if it's connected to the mother board but if it's disconnected it powers up all my fans and stuff just fine.  There's the LED indicator on my motherboard that indicates power is getting into the motherboard but it's noticeably dimmer than normal and when I unplug the power supply while it's connected to the motherboard the light slowly fades out and then suddenly lights up really bright for a split second before going out.  Is it my motherboard that died or the PSU, based on the information I provided?

Answer:Computer won't turn on after power outage; details inside.

The laptop is an ASUS Vivobook, running Windows 8. Once I woke up it from sleep, and the screen was blank. The backlight was on, but the screen was black. So I held the power button, and then started it up again.
When it got past the BIOS screen, it then said "Configuring Windows Updates". It then got stuck at ~50%, rebooted, and then gave a black screen again.
After a force shut-down, it resumed the "Configuring Windows Updates", this time from 60%, and booted normally.
Is this normal, or should I ask for a replacement?

Hi, I have a LACE 500 gb, external hard drive that I purchased for myself to help with the memory space on my laptop.

Anyways, a few minutes ago, I plugged it into my laptop via the usb cord and waited for it to boot. It started booting up, and then suddenly when it was loading in the Autoplay, it was taking forever at a certain folder and started making a clicking noise. I canceled the Autoplay and opened up My Computer to get the drive from that area. I click on the H extension, open up the hard drive and I am searching to get a picture that I want that's in a folder. I click on it and it takes forever to load, making that clicking noise and then finally it opens. Everything is taking forever to load, and when it's loading, it makes the clicking noise in my external hard drive.

The other day, I was carrying it, and it fell out of my hand but I wasn't high so it didn't fall from a high distance. I thought it was fine, because I recall using it previously before my attempts today. So I have no idea what's wrong with it. When I click on the image itself, it opens up fine in the Windows Viewer, and doesn't do any clicking noise whatsoever. It only does it, when it comes to folders.

It is opening up, but it's taking FOREVER and it's making an annoying clicking noise. Can anyone tell me if they've experienced this before and what they did to fix the problem?

Thank you and look forward to the response!
