error message: won't accept html comments

Question: error message: won't accept html comments

I'm trying to send comments to a sports message board, and they are being bounced back with the message "html comments not allowed." Sorry to be so dumb, but is there some setting that I can change that will solve this problem? Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I keep receiving the following error message, " the service cannot accept control messages at this time". I need to know how to fix this. I can't seem to open or do any fixes because this message is all I get. UGH

thanks

Answer:error message-cannot accept control messages

Ok, reboot the pc, at Power on, tap F8, until a list of startup options will be shown. Use
UP arrow Key to go to Safe Mode, hit ENTER.

Once there the desktop shows, proceed to: Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System restore

Restore the pc back to an earlier date and see if that doesn't clear this up.

Hi all.

I am using WebEasy Professional 6 to design my website. I have inserted a form on my 'contact us' where clients can submit comments, however these comments display in html format when I view it in my inbox (Microsoft Outlook). Does anyone have any suggestions to correct this? Thanks!

Answer:Form on website displaying comments in html

Greetings, BexBomb.

Sounds like you've got something missing, most likely a bracket. Look for code similar to this:

<form>yada yada</form

Notice the missing > after the second "form".

If you can't find the culprit, post the address and I'll take a look at it, or you can validate the page at w3.org which should show any HTML mistakes on the page.

1- I used to save any intersting web site as (Web Page complete *.htm , *.html), and some web pages that can be saved as htm, I used to save them as (Web Archive Single file *.mht).

2- I have got no problem to open any of these saved web pages later on

3- Recently I expeirenced receiving error message when I try to open any of these saved web pages (still I can browse saved page but always I have to receive message when I opened it),,,,,,,,the error message was:

"Windows cannot find ‘C:\Document and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\Acronis.htm’ . Make sure you typed name correctly, and then try again. To search click the start button, and then click Search."

I am using windows XP SP2, with all updated patches.

Answer:html and mht pages and error message

I have Window XP, received an error message that would not go away along with other virus' that my McAfee antivirus caught, upon reboot the error message went away, however, I now have the error message as my wallpaper and I can not change it because I only have tabs for "screen saver" and "settings" for my "display" in the control panel. How do I restore my Display tabs and remove the current error message wallpaper.
Other than the "wallpaper" I have no other problems with my computer (so far). It is annoying having my desktop background as this error message. Especially, after having a nice picture there before.

The display message is as follows:
Blue backgroud with white letters that state:

Security warning
A fatal error in IE has occured at 0028:C0011E36 in VXD VMM(01) +
00010E36. Error was caused by Trojan-Spy.HTML.Snitfraud.c

x System can not function in normal mode.
Please check your security settings.

* Scan your PC with any available antivirus / spyware remover
program to fix the problem.

Hi, just come across this File Metadata (free) which I think will interest you- seems very competent in tagging files.
At the bottom I've added a note about StyleFolder (free), which adds comments to folders.

If you want to add comments, tags, metadata to files, this is for you.
In some places it refers to XP and Vista, but is maintained and current for '10.

Hi all,
I'm using Acronis True image v11 home, and it's VERY good at it's disk image backing up; helped me numerous times while setting up a dual boot on my laptop.

When i create the backups, it asks for an optional comment, so you can identify the backups later on. I always made good comments, but now i have numerous backups, i've just realised I don't actually know how to view those comments?!

If anybody knows how to, please give instructions!

Thanks,

Hello all,

I am using Outlook Express 6, and all was fine until today when I go to check my mail and a window popped up asking for my password (normally doesn't). Anyway, I typed it in and pressed "ok" and the box came up again... typed password again... box came up again... so I clicked "cancel" and got this error message:

"There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'mail.in.com.au', Server: 'mail.in.com.au', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR incorrect password', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92"

All the websites I've checked about this say to go into
accounts --> properties and make sure everything is typed out correctly and to make sure "Secure password authentication" isn't checked, which it wasn't and everything was typed fine since I hadn't been fooling around in there... I tried checking my mail again and still get the password box and it still won't accept my password.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Answer:OE won't accept my password (Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92)

That is also a standard error message you get when your mail server (ISP problem) is not operating correctly. There is little you can do if that is the case, just wait for the ISP to correct the problem at their end.

Contact them in any regards, and see if they are aware of the problem.
http://www.in.com.au/techelp/config/olookex5.htm is the link to your ISPs support for configuring OE correctly. You can also check to see if they make your POP mails accessible through their site.

There is no "Help" or any other tab that shows how to seek help and post a new message about the problem; but all I can see are my last messages/problems, which have been solved by Cybertech, and now I have a new problem but don't know how/where to post it.

Moreover, since my last problem was solved, I clicked on the " Mark Solved" tab, but my thread/post did not show that my problem was solved, so that other readers may see it and avail of the help given to me.

And, like this message that I am sending now. There is a box headed "Title".
So whose name should I put there? My name? I should have thought that all messages went to moderators.

At the bottoms of this message box, there is another box 'Tags" and 'Trackback'. I dont know what these are! Where do I look up info about these?

<b>Greetings</b>,

I am running a NETVISTA 2179 All-in-One PC. After a recent
reorganization of my home, I made an attempt to restart my
system. The result was a blue screen of death that read :
" Inaccessible Boot Device ".

After much trial with Recovery Consoles and IBM diagnostics,
it was apparent that my hard drive was working , since I
could access DOS through these recovery systems. My plan of
action is to now turn this hard drive into a SLAVE for my other
system so that crucial files can be transferred. After this, I
will pop the hard drive back into my IBM and format.

<i>Problem </i>: Both drives want to BOOT when they are running
in my other system. I thought " well, we need to disable the
boot files in my IBM hard drive " ( temporarily )

<i>Query1</i> : Is this the correct assumption?
<i>Comment</i> : Using LISTSVC command in the Recovery Console
I came across over 20 files ( drivers, etc ) that had
to do with the boot process.

<i>Query2</i>: Do I disable all of these?

<i>Query3</i>: Or , can I just delete/disable BOOT.INI?

The objective here is to prepare my IBM hard drive for
a SLAVE role with my other system's hard drive. If both drives
are on one system, I can drag and drop crucial files.

Input is appreciated. : : : .

I have had two cases recently (different machines / different message senders) where an html message was truncated in Outlook. In both cases, they re-sent with the same result -- it wasn't just a glitch. One user gets a highly formatted html message every morning, and it is truncated somewhere every day. And it is not a message size limit; he gets larger messages all the time.

Machines are both Win98 / Outlook 2000.

Microsoft Knowledgebase mentions an issue with character set, but it seems both sender and receiver were set for Western.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

I have downloaded an HTML file. When I double click on the file it appears fine. Now I have tried sending it through windows explorer (which opens after double clicking the HTML file) as send - page by emai and link by email it went not as it appeared as html page.

Further, I use Incredimail for sending and receving mail. I am not able to send the page through that as well.

Kindly guide me step by step how do I send the file to another email?

Answer:Sending an HTML message to other email

You must have an email application that is capable of formatting your email as html prior to sending. You cannot send an "html file" as an email because it is already a file. Try opening the html file and hitting Ctrl+A to select, Ctrl+C to copy. Then paste into the body of an email message. If it doesn't work, your email application is not capable.

Guys,

Pretty easy question. (I hope) There are some web server companies that allow users to post HTML code into message boards. However many don't give you a direct button link or even a "Preview Message" option, so if your HTML skills aren't great when posting, you could wind up changing the format of the whole message board unintentionally!

The company Voy is an example of this.

I am a little confused with regard to the BOLD command using HTML code. Some message boards have the following command for Bold

This is bold text [/b}

and some have this (like Voy)

<b> This is bold text</b>

My question is can the [] and the <> be used interchangably and why would there be an HTML change from board to board ? I thought HTML was supposed to be a universal language. If a board doesn't give you a list of HTML commands on the site, how would you know which one to use?

For the record can you provide a list of basic HTML commands for changing text fonts that we could use? Thank you!

Jack

Answer:Using HTML for Message Board Posts (for all sites)

OK . . .

<b></b> is HTML
[ /b] is vB code.

This site will allow you to use vb code, but has disallowed HTML code.

For this site, vB Help will tell you what you need to know. It will also help with other sites that have vB enabled.

WebMonkey have an HTML Cheatsheet that might help you with sites that have HTML enabled.

On my win xp-pro sp2 with outlook 2002 sp 3.. using IE 9 in Windows 7 I keep getting this message in the "opened mail header area". For what it's worth, I think I am missing some text from the body of the email.
Is there a fix for this it seems "harmless" but a pain in the butt so to speak.
Thanks in advance

Hi

I have a user at work with the following problem:

Basically, his Outlook 2000 email is set to HTML. When he receives an email he opens it fine. He then clicks edit>edit message. The message then opens in Word 2000. I have checked under Tools>options>mail format and made sure use microsoft word to edit email messages is unchecked.

I checked and unchecked to try and force it but no luck.

It works fine on my pc.

Any ideas? Sounds like a registry setting to me!

We are using windows 2000.

Thanks

Pileyrei

I accidently deleted my printer from the list of printers. The printer is located on another Windows system (\\print-server) and works perfectly. If I open Explorer and type \\print-server into the address bar I see the printer Canon_MG5350. If I double-click on it though the printer is not installed. Instead an error 0x00000709 is shown.

What must I do to reinstall the network printer into my system?

Answer:Win 8.1 doesn't accept printer, error 0x00000709

Hi Friends,

I wonder if anyone can give me some instruction on how to send through Excel an email with an HTML file as message body.
I tried something out but does'nt recognize the html but placed it in the body message as text.

I know how to send email and even how to send it with a spreadsheet as message body, but an HTML message body would give me much more flexibility.

Thanks a lot,
Elad.

Hi,

Environment:
My outlook 2003 default format is HTML. The Default fond for new/reply messages is Arial.

The Problem:
I get a message in text format. When I manually change the format of this message to HTML, the font of the message is Times Roman.

How can I make outlook automatically use the default font (Arial) as the font for messages changed from text to HTML ?

I have installed Wamp server and I have created 2 tables in phpmyadmin that are connected via ODBC to an Access database. I have tested it with and another Access
database, which sends test orders to it via a php file.
Now I wish to connect an AI2 android app to localhost to send test orders from this source.

I found a web page which sets out a method to connect an app via the IP address, but when I enter my IP address into Windows Explorer I get the following message.
?The device or resource is not set up to accept connections on port "The World Wide Web service (HTTP)".
I have seen a previous answer that suggests resetting Internet Explorer\Tools\Internet Options\Connections\LAN Settings and checking the ?Automatically

Is there anything else I can do please?
My system is Windows 7 32 bit and I have Microsoft Security Essentials and Microsoft Firewall running for home & private networks.

AVG is creating a virus alert for HMTL Framer when I access various web pages. I'm given the option of removing to the Virus Vault, which I do, and everything seems to proceed smoothly. This began yesterday, July 14th, and has occurred on 3 different machines, 2 paid version and one free.
I see the HTML Framer issue existed a couple of years ago and was "resolved. Then there was the fiasco with the SYSvideo driver last week (losing several days work as a result thereof). I guess I'm getting a little concerned about AVG.

Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution?

By the way, when I came here to BleepingComputer Avg alerted me that the site was infected!

I am running Xp and I have 3 problems (may or may not be related).

1. Sometimes- when I attempt to access Internet Explorer, I receive an error message: "cannot find 'file"///C;secure:html" and then a page cannot be displayed message. Problem is intermittent and now I am browsing without problem.

2. Norton Internet security cannot run a liveupdate. It does not see that there is an internet connection although i have the Internet explorer window open and can verify that it is online.

3. Twice, screen has gone blue with a message that a physical dump is taking place. Once the PC reboots- I get the typical "windows has recovered from a serious error"

I have run a scan disk with no errors found. The HiJack This log will be pasted below.

Answer:HJT - secure32.html error

The HiJackThis program is installed into a temporary directory and this is not a recommended thing for it. Please un-install HijackThis and remove all log files from your computer and then re-download and re-install fromthe file shown below:

To download HJTsetup.exe To Download HijackThis go to the following: http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item5
Filename = 1137518044HJTsetup.exe
Save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\HijackThis.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialog boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialog.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialog box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
At the top of the Notepad HJT log screen, hit Edit then Select All then click Edit and then click Copy doing that copies the text to the clipboard, you won't see it yet....
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply. DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

A security expert should take a look at your log - please be patient.

When I try to send a text message on my Nokia Lumia 928 is says: "Your SIM card is missing or damaged" and does not send the message. It also will not make calls and when I try it gives a message "SIM error." I examined the card and it doesn't seem to be damaged. I didn't drop my phone or anything to cause damage.
Why does it give this message?
How can I fix this problem?
Will everything on my phone be lost if it actually is damaged?

Answer:Why does my Nokia Lumia 928 give me an error message when I try to send a text message?

SIM cards can go bad... SIM Trays can go bad.
Test this by trying another SIM in your Phone... Does it work? Tray is good. Try your SIM in another Phone. Does it get seen? SIM is good.
You could ask your provider for a new SIM also.
Occasionally, this could be a software issue. Try a Soft Reset (you won't loose data). Hold the Volume Down + Power buttons until the phone vibrates and reboots (about ten seconds).
Otherwise, make a backup and then reset with Lumia Software Recovery Tool as described here: FAQ - How can I recover/reset/restore my phone software? - Microsoft - USA

By default I use the "HTML" format for my outgoing Outlook messages. Whenever I need to paste something into my message, such as a portion of a Word doc or a website, I normaly like to do this without any formatting. Normally, when you use the "Rich Text" message format instead of "HTML", you have the "Paste Special" option in the Edit menu which allows you to paste only the text without formatting. Why is this option not available when you use the "HTML" message format?

My current work-around is to paste my selection into Notepad first and then into the e-mail but I was hoping to skip this step.

Any thoughts?

Answer:Why can't I "Paste Special" in MS Outlook HTML message?

If you have office 2002, you should have a little icon at the end of the text that you click. The other option is to set the prefrences to use Word as your E-mail editor.

Can anyone help?

I have resently downloaded and installed Opera 8.51 on my XP (haven't got around to my Linux yet ) and found a very irretating problem. This is unusually the same problem that I use to encounter when using IE.

Whenever I attempt to open a web page off of my hard drive (e.g. *.html) Windows comes up with a file not found error, and then Opera opens the page.

I am absolutly definate that this is not an error with the OS (supprisingly) as this sort of error is generated when opening HTML pages from other application - for example, when I open a HTML from WinRaR (double click >> temprary open, not unzipping, then open).

If you can reply me any advise it would really be appreciated, thank you.

Answer:Opera - opening html doc's error

If it happened in IE and it happens in other programs, it has to be an OS error or setting. If it started happening only after you installed Opera, it could be an issue with opera, but it's more likely a file assocation error on windows part and the Opera install changed a file association. Try this:

My Computer>Tools menu>folder options>filetypes

In the “registered file types” box, highlight HTML document. Below, it will tell you what program html docs open with (it will probably be IE). Click change. Look at the “Always use this program to open…” box. If it ISN’T checked, check it, close everything and see if your problem is corrected.. If it is already checked, then change the program notepad, select ok. On folder options box, select apply, then ok. Now repeat the procedure, only this time change the program from notepad to opera.exe.

What you just did, was change the file association for html files to notepad, then back to opera. If you’d rather have IE open all html’s, then select IE as the program instead of Opera. Makes no difference, but if your using Opera as your browser, I would think that you would want to use Opera for all htmls.

If this doesn’t fix it, post back and get the details on the registry fix

I've used Opera for over a year and think it's great. I just installed 8.51 on my daughters computer and don't like what I'm going through trying to make it look like mine. Haven'... Read more

When I get email from the groups, they frequently have a message, "We attempted to deliver this message to you with HTML formatting. However your email program does not support HTML-enhanced messages. Please go to your e-mail settings for this group and change your email preference to text only."

First of all am I missing something that I want to have? Is HTML-enhanced preferable?

If it is desireable, should / does Outlook support it?

Am I missing something?? Does Outlook 2000 not support HTML enhanced?

Should I get another email program?

Are my setting in Outlook not correct?

I put a banner at the top of the page, and another banner below that. However in IE and chrome there was a space between the photos, so I combines the in paint. Saved the photo as banner1 and it worked the way it's suppose to.

However when I upload the index.html to my webpage it only displays the original banner 1 and not not banner 2 at all like it did in the preview of .html.

I've saved it as the right file and uploaded several times. I don't know what's wrong with it.

One of our users has a work manual that was created In Word 2003 and saved as an HTML document, the manual contains TOC's and links to many PDF and Word Docs.
We recently upgraded from Office 2003 to Office 2007 and since that time the user is having issues modifying the document.
She opens the HTML Manual which opens in IE and then from the File menu chooses Edit with MS Word. She needs to use the Ctrl+Click to navigate the links in the TOC. The links in the TOC often link to other TOC's she can only get about two or three into the TOC's and then she gets a Microsoft Office Word Error:
Microsoft Office Word has encountered a problem and needs to close.....
Then it allows to send an error report or not.

This is keeping her from updating her manual. I have tried this on several machines and the same error occurs.

I do have one machine in the building that still has Office 2003 on it and she is able to do everything she needs with the manual on this machine.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what this could be and how to resolve this issue?

Hi folks, I hope someone can help me with this problem:

I'm getting the 'Windows not genuine' message box show regularly. When I follow the link to investigate I get the Windows Activation Technologies box come up saying that the Update Installation Failed with Error Code 0x8000247.

A while ago I replaced a failing hard drive with a new one, cloned the hard drive and used that image to replace everything. After a while I started to get the not genuine message.

Here is the diagnostic report, and I would welcome any help:

This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers
try downloading and installing them from here - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=21730

My Dell desktop Dimension E510 computer with one gig RAM and XP professional failed to start and I was eventually forced to do a repair of Windows which after several hours allowed me to restart it and it is apparently back to where it was with no need to reinstall any drivers, programs, settings, etc. During the Repair there were two places were I had to skip things that would not load. However, it now has two error messages that keep popping up and I cannot get rid of them.

The first is in a window labeled "msfeedssync.exe - Application Error". The message is "The instruction at 0x77d4bbcd referenced memory at 0x00000048 cannot be read". It pops up and says click OK to terminate program or click cancel to debug the program. Clicking either twice closes the pop-up but it returns about two minutes later. How can I get rid of thsi message.

The second problem is a window labeled "Status" which starts a ticker tape to load info and then a second window pops up that says "The feature you are trying to use is on a CD or other removeable device. Insert disk and click OK. The status file is an "Installation Package.msi file. No m,atter how much I click cancel or OK the windows will not close. I can put them in the background, but is annoying.

Any advice would be helpful. I thought of doing a complete reinstall of Windows but I believe it wipes out all my programs and I don't want that if possible. Thanks in advance for any help. This... Read more

Hello and thanks for reading,

I have the oddest problem here at work. I have a brand new Latitude E5530 that would not connect to the internet, but would connect to our LAN. We had the motherboard replaced by Dell, but a few weeks later, while a download of the free AVG anti-virus program was being installed, the same thing happened again where we could not connect to the WAN, but the LAN was fine.

I formatted the HDD, reinstalled the OS (7, Pro, 32bit), installed all the factory drivers and still the same thing.

This only happens when I'm at work. We have multiple laptops of the same make/model/OS that are working perfectly, but not this one (at least not for long)

One thing that does allow me to connect to the WAN. I have a LinkSys USB Ethernet Adapter. There is no Windows 7 driver for this, so I've used the Vista 32 bit driver when installing the software and I can connect no problem.

I've also had one other computer give me fits about accessing the WAN at my job. This unit (I believe it's a Dell optiplex 780) had XP installed and would occasionally lose WAN connection, but a reboot would take care of the problem. The problem grew to where more reboots were necessary until one day nothing could be done to connect to the WAN (once again, the LAN connection was fine). I ended up replacing that computer. Recently however, that computer also was having problems connecting to the WAN, even after removing/reinstalling the NIC driver. I used another of the LinkSy... Read more

I'm currently designing a table based website in Dreamweaver, but am having a problem importing a drop down menu in the form of html. It gives me the error "The selected file is not the correct format. Please select a file which was exported from Fireworks".

The problem with this is that all the export options have been set correctly, and is being exported as Dreamweaver HTML, and obviously being exported from Fireworks - so what's the problem? Does anyone have an answer to my problem?

When signed into eBay I cannot search or click on any watched items. It goes to a blank page with a little yellow triangle in the bottem left corner of the screen over done. When I click on the triangle it gives me this error :
HTML Parsing error: Unable to modify the parent container element before the child element is closed (KB927917)
Also, if I do a search with Google, I cannot go past the first page of the search. I click on next or the page # and it does nothing.
I tried the reset in IE and it works for a few times than it goes back to the same thing.
I even reinstalled XP thinking it might be bad drivers.
I have IE* on two other machines, 1 laptop and a desktop and no problems with eBay or Google searching with them.
This machine is a Dell Optiplex 620 with 3 gig of ram, dual processor, 750 gig HD and XP Pro version 2002 service pack 3.
I do have Firefox installed and it works with eBay and Google just fine but I really would like to keep IE if possible.

Hi all,
My problem started a few weeks ago! I caught a Virus and Dr. Web got rid of it as well as some trojan downloaders that Malwarebytes killed.
The virus ruined my Avast as well as Google Chrome - so I installed Avira and Zone Alarm Firewall as well as ZA Forcefield browser. Avira continues to tell me I have a virus and quarantines it. I contacted Avira and they say it looks like a Zone Alarm problem - I contacted ZA - and am still waiting - I also uploaded these to Avira to be checked for a false positive and have not heard back from them either.
I was wondering - if I still have a problem or if this is a false positive?
Here is what Avira's log says on the last catch:

Answer:HTML/Infected.WebPage.Gen HTML script virus

A common attack against the web infrastructure can be the infection of harmless web pages. Some malware changes every HTML file stored on the disc and adds a link (very often an IFrame) to a site hosting malicious code. Other attacks can aim for the web servers and try to insert forwarding to the pages hosted there. The owner of these pages is advised to take them offline. Fix the hole (either on his own PC or on the server), check the pages for infections, clean them and go online again. Infected Web Pages often contain additional Iframe, Object or Script Tags. The Script Tags often contain encrypted Code.Special detection HTML/Infected.WebPage.GenSince Avira is making the detection and you submitted samples, I suggest you wait on a reply from them or follow up by contacting them again with a reminder.See this Avira link for a discussion of a similar report.

Good morning all, (at least here in EST) Im not sure if this is the proper forum, so ill see if it dies here before I try to post somewhere else.
Every Month, i need to send in a report on what i have done here at work (read: justify my existence). It generally takes me about an hour to do. What i would like to do is to create a HTML form, formatted the way they want it, with text boxes/pulldown menus, and fill in my information, and have the completed form either A)saved as an html form without the boxes; IE:the information gets added into the actual html OR B) All the information gets pushed into a word.doc.
Ultimately, i would like to have it save with something like this "Report-{date or month}.html (or doc).
Soooo, this being said, any of you code wizards out there know how to do this? Thanks alot for any imput you can give.

I am using Windows XP SP3.

I am trying to add an "edit" action to the .html file type. I have .html associated with Firefox. I go to Tools>Folder Options>File Types> and .html isn't even listed! (Nor is .htm) So I click "New" and add the .html file type. Then I click "Advanced" and fill in the action info and hit "OK". Then I hit "Close".

It doesn't work, and then when I go back into "File Types", html is not listed anymore. Basically, Windows is ignoring my attempts to add the .html file type.

I created the .xxx file type and added actions to open with Firefox and Word. It worked perfectly.

So what is it with the .html file type that Windows won't create it or list it?

When saving an html document to any location e.g.; the
desktop the correct icon for an HTML document
does not appear (white page with blue 'e') ,all i get
is a default icon (white background with an Windows flag).

Right clicking and selecting 'properties' to change the icon is
not available as Change Button is greyed out.

Double clicking the file does open IE6 correctly.
Interestingly shortcuts to HTML sites do have the correct
icon.

Reinstalling IE6 has not fixed the fault.

Any help?

Answer:missing icon for HTML documents; htm and html files

Directions for changing the icon for HTML files.

Open any folder.
Hit View->Folder options.
Choose the 'File Types' tab.
Find 'HTML Document' and click on it.
Click on 'edit'.
Click on 'change icon'.Find a good icon to use and close all the windows.
Shortcuts are a different type of file according to the computer, so it handles them differently.

The computer will boot, but goes into the temporary profile.

I've followed the other forums' recommendations.
I enter the "Safe Mode."
I access the Registry Editor (note: in the search bar, it won't find the regedit path, I have to search through the "help and support" section to access the Registry Editor. A small nuance/annoyance, but it might be pertinent).
I delete the ".bak" extension. Just the extension, not the profile.
I set the values on the 2 profile files to "zero." The names of the files eludes me at this second.

When I restart the computer, it loops back. Same problem. "User profile error."
I restart in "Safe Mode" and it is like I did nothing. Why is it doing this?
How do I fix it?
How do I reclaim my computer?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Answer:"User profile error" that won't won't accept changes

Honestly your best bet now is to create a new admin authorized user account and migrate.
Fixing this properly could take a massive amount of trial and error.
...then again you could get lucky.
New account is the quickest fix.
If it comes out damaged, then we may have a larger problem.

i can't access any of the download lists(html files) in the files area on the majorgeeks website.
IE says it can't open. running IE8 on WinXP

Answer:IE error msg when trying to open download html files on majorgeeks.com

Greetings, johnsonsdj.

Can you give an example of the type of file you are trying to download?

If you are trying to d/l any of the programs listed on the front page, you may have to enable 'Download file' in the IE Information Bar popup.

I have a slow home computer that I'm trying to fix.  My specs are listed at the bottom.  It slows down considerably after I use the computer for about an hour.  But I also get this message from Internet Explore Security consistently:  dw20.exe

=========================
A website wants to open web content using this program on your computer

This program will open outside of Protected mode.  Internet Explorer's Protected mode helps protect your computer.  If you do not trust this website, do not open this program.

When you push either allow or don't allow, the response is the same.  The website goes offline.

After that, another message comes on from IEXPLORER.EXE - Application Error

Answer:dw20.exe Message Followed by an Applilcation Error Message

Hi techgnosis Just so you know, FSS and FRST are reporting/logging tools when used in scan mode only, so they won't fix anything unless instructed otherwise via a fix-list. Thus, I do not suggest you to attempt doing a such thing without proper training since you could easily mess up your whole system with that. Let's take a closer look at these errors.MiniToolBoxDownload MiniToolBox and move the executable file to your Desktop;Execute MiniToolBox and check the following options:List Installed Programs;List Last 10 Event Viewer Errors;List Devices - Only Problems;List Users, Partitions and Memory size;Once this is done, click on Go and wait for the scan to complete;Once the scan is complete, a log will open. Please copy/paste the content of the output log in your next reply;

I have a Compaq Presario SR1303WM Desktop running XP home edition and just recently installed a Linksys wireless adapter. I had some headaches with the adapter setup but I've been off and running for a while now and all of the sudden today I started getting a constant error message sound - but no error message along with it. I thought that it may be associated in some way with the adapter considering I had been getting some error messages concerning the adapter upon start up but I never really had any issues. I've tried many different things - changed some of the start up programs, cleaned the registry, ran a virus scan, etc. and nothing has worked thus far and I'm about to pull my hair out.

HELP!!!

Answer:Help! Constant error message sound with no message...

go to control panel > admin tools > event viewer > under system and application, do you see anything that happened at that same time you heard those sounds?
