Preferred Solution: computer is slow, internet runs slow...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Running older PC Clone 2.0 Ghz Dual CPU Pentium, 1GB Ram Win XP Home Edition system.

While navigation on Internet Explorer or Google Chrome, system runs extrememly slow and/or crashes. When using applications such as Itunes, Email, or simply opening up Word and other applications, it runs very slow and almost seems to stop. The IE7 that was on the computer had changed to an operate with add-ons off as a result of the infection. I downloaded and reinstalled IE7 and this seems to have fixed that problem for the time being. MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpy icons dissappeared from my desktop. When trying to use them from the Start / Menu options the programs no longer worked. I reinstalled them and they appear to work fine now. However, the system still seems to run very slow over all and its performance is greatly hindered.

Next, I ran free version of SuperAntiSpyware and all it detected was a couple Adware cookies. Secondly, I ran free version of Malware Bytes Anti-Malware and it detected PUP.GamePlayLab infections located in the Registry Key: HKLM\SOFTGWARE\Microsoft\Windows.... These files were removed and quarantined by MWB. Thirdly, I ran Old Timer's TFC and then rebooted the computer and it appeared to run a little faster, but still sluggish while using IE7. So, finally, I ran ESET Free Online Scanner, and it detected "Win32/Toolbar.Babylon and Win32/TopMedia.a" virus infections. Scan took about 2 1/2 hours. I set it to search the drives/ar... Read more

Hello. for the last week or so my computer has been running slow everytime the internet loads. The computer never used to run slow when the internet was loading. And it even runs fine every once and a while. Some examples are.-When I browse web pages I usly look at more then one thing. I use firefox, so what I do is while one page is loading I open up another tab and look at that site. But recently when the other page is loading the computer runs slow.-Is used to be able to watch gamespot videos. What would happen before is.... It would load 25% of the video then play that 25% while the other 75% is loading, and the video would run smooth and fine. But now I can only watch the video once it is 100% loaded, because once it has 100% loaded the video then the internet isn't really being used.-When playing cames at teagames.com the games run slow because the game is constantly loading. It has been doing that for over a week now but I was playing it 2 days ago and it was running fine, but most of the time it is really slow.It has been doing this for about a week now. I have run four diffrent virus scanners (AVG, Trend Micro, KasperSky, stinger virus scanner) and I have no viruses. I have run spyware programs (Spybot, Pest Patrol, Spyware doctor, Ad-Aware) and I have no spyware. I have also run programs like CCleaner, ewido, tuneup utilites 1 click maintenance, and diskkeeper. After running everything the computer still runs slow when loading stuff off the internet. Why has my compu... Read more

Answer:Computer runs slow when internet is loading

Well, I hope you don't have multiple anti-virus programs running at the same time.  That could slow down your system. Is the computer performing as it should when not online?  I'm wondering whether the problem is actually your Internet connection.  Have you ever ran any Internet speed tests?  I suggest visiting www.dslreports.com and running a speed test and tweaks test.  If you create a user account and are logged on when you run the tests, you can save the results and then see your results compared to others.  You may have issues you need to discuss with your ISP.

So where to start with this computer. I guess I'll start with the foundation of the problem
I own a Dell Inspiron of which I use fairly less than my separate computer. Lately, a lot of problems have begun to arise.
My computer runs incredibly slow. I've gone about cleaning it with CCleaner and checking for Malware using Malwarebytes. Overall I began to see the health of my computer increase as time passed and I was happy with the results. That is until I put the computer to the side for a week to let it cool down so to speak.
When I booted up, I was greeted with the Windows 7 logo for about 5 minutes, incredibly longer than the last time I tended to it. When I finally logged in to the computer itself, everything seemed normal.
As per my normal suspicions, I instantly ran Malwarebytes. Instead of opening however, it instant closed. Rather disappointed, I turned instead to finishing the install of AVG. I was greeted there with the installation client stating that there was no network to complete the install.
I was connected to the internet without any exclaimation point for a warning? That couldn't be right.
So just out of testing, I opened up Steam to see if it was an overall problem. It prompted me with the idea that it had no internet connection. Same with Razer Cortex. I checked Windows Firewall to ensure they were all in the exceptions, and they were. Strange.
I opened Chrome and found that it instantly connected to Google. Every other application but Chrome had no intern... Read more

Try running Windows Repair All In One to try to fix your issue. It will guide you through repairing and restoring your PC.

Also, if you are running on wireless, have you tried changing the wireless channel in the router settings?

Hello all,

I come to you because I am currently experiencing an issue with my computer. Whenever I access the internet, the internet goes incredibly slow and then the computer follows as well. When I run programs that do not use the internet, it runs slow after I access the internet but not before. I have ran both Malwarebytes and ESET online scanner and they did clean and remove several infected files, but the computer is still acting a bit sluggish. I was thinking of running combofix as I am quite learned in removing virus and malware, but I wanted to post my hijack this log first to see if there are any serious infections on my computer or if it is something else causing my internet to act this way.

Greetings all ...This is my first post.Yesterday, I found that my computer got the vwwdiag32.exe infection. As result, computer runs very very very slowly. It takes 30-45 minutes for dialog boxes to appear. For example, I clicked on SBC Yahoo to access Internet. It took 30-35 mins just for the box to show up that would let me enter my user name. After I enter my name and password, it takes another 20-30 minutes to confirm that I am "in".When I try to move dialog boxes on my screen or minimise the windows, it takes similarly long time for windows to move ... like 20-30 mins.I also got a dialog box that says "361101032252978.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You need to restart".I took the following steps:1) Ran Ad-Aware SE, took every step they told me to take.2) installed Spybot. Could not load the updates because my computer running soooo slow.3) Already got rid of junk from hard drive (ie undesired apps, old digital pics, etc)4) Ran a Hijack This. But am not posting the log here, because your rules say not to.I want to install stuff like Panda Anti-Virus, McAfee AVERT Stinger, and Housecall Anti-Virus. But computer is running so slow to respond betwn clicks. What should I do next ?Computer is very very slow, like walking thru molasses. I am posting this msg from a backup computer.Pls help

Yesterday, my internet connection was fine, I was able to watch videos without any lag. Then I went out so I turned it off. When I came home and turned the computer back on, the internet connection was mysteriously slow. I tried watching some videos on Youtube and other sites but they would only load about 3 seconds worth of video every several minutes. Some sites also took longer than usual to load. Downloads take forever - a 4.8MB file should usually take only several minutes at the most but I have one currently downloading which is taking 22 minutes and counting. I restarted the computer but that improved the internet speed only marginally. I didn't install any new programs and I ran AVG 8.5 Free but it came up negative. My OS is Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 3. Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated. Nevermind, it was just a loose cable. My bad.

When I bring up Task Manager I don't show any extra applications running, but there are a lot of processes running. How do I determine which of those processes I should allow and which to shut down?
On the msconfig, I am not sure what services to disable and what to disable on the start menu.
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
thanks

I have been experiencing strange issues on my laptop this past month. First off, I have to say I once installed a program called SSPro or System Surveillance Pro to see how it worked. I followed instructions on how to remove it, but I am not sure if files still exist that are causing problems. In addition, I ran an Panda Active Scan and had found a file called KillProcwin.A and also followed some other instructions on how to remove that. Anyway, I notice that my computer in general is very slow to start up. Then when I try to do Internet searches or simply click within a web page, it freezes up. I do Ctrl-alt-del when pages are not responding and have to end programs. I also notice that when I shut down my computer I see a message about having to end program hpcmpmgr.exe. I have tried to shut down/restart several times today. The last time I opened Internet Explorer I received a message, "Instruction at 0x7c910193 referenced memory at 0x1440db62. The memory could not be 'written.' Click OK to terminate or CANCEL to debug. This is becoming extremely frustrating so any help on these issues is much appreciated. Here is my DDS text and attached are the files you requested. Thanks!

Answer:Internet pages freeze and computer runs slow

BUMP, please. I am still experiencing issues, in particular with IE not opening at all, taking a very long time, and then freezing up. I have instead been using Firefox and do not seem to have as many problems. I just want to ensure these problems are not virus related. Thanks for your help!

I recently updated to INternet Explorer 7 but even before that my internet browser is running really slow. Whenever I type anything within the browser, or if I am typing in another program while internet explorer is on, the letters will take a while before showing up. Sometimes the homepage will freeze and I have to end the program and start it again just to repeat the process again and again. Everything else in my computer is running fast except when I click on the web browser and the computer slows down.
This is my work computer by the way. OS is XP, processor pentium4 2.39 ghz, 512mb ram, 40gb hard drive. 24 gb free.

thanks

Hi, I am hoping someone can help me.  My computer starts kind of slow, and I feel like it is running a little slow also.  I thought it would be a good idea to un-check some of the start-up things after going into misconfig, but I do not know what any of the items are.  Is there an easy way to make my computer start faster.  Also, when I am on the computer, I hear the tower making noise like it is doing something, as though there was some kind of background process going on that I don't know about.  I am running McAfee and I am pretty sure I do not have any kind of virus.  Please help.

Answer:start slow, runs slow and makes noise when I am simply typing on computer

Oh Yeah, I am running windows XP that came with the computer a year ago when I bought it.  It has an 80 gig hard drive and I think 1 gig of memory.  Thanks in advance to anyone's response.

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

Click Start - Run - and type in:

services.msc

Click OK.

In the services window find:

DomainService - Unknown owner

Right click and choose "Properties". On the "General" tab under "Service Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Beside "Startup Type" in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". Click Apply then OK.
Exit the Services utility.
Note: You may get an error here when trying to access the properties of the service. If you do get an error, just select the service and look there in the top left of the main service window and click "Stop" to stop the service. If that gives an error or it is already stopped, just skip this step and proceed with the rest.

Hi,
I am knew to this and hope I have done all I can in order for you to help me. My computer started to run very, very slow in all aspects. This week I have started being redirected from my usual msn homepage to usuc.us/2/stuff/to_peakclick.html. This in turn takes me to a page called firesearch. I have checked to see if my homepage was changed and it wasn't but I still get redirected. Also, my computer has started saying I was disconnected from the internet when I clearly have not been. I had a lot of trouble using the Deckard scan because of this. Every time I tried to use the scan I would only get the main text file and not the extra text file. I finally did a clean scan, downloaded the scanner again and was able to get the extra file like I was supposed too. I have found some strange things in my documents such as a halloween file.

I have also noticed that at times a very small icon will flash extremely quickly in the taskbar. It is so fast that I have only seen what it looks like once in which appeared to be a ship or tugboat. I know that sounds really strange but that is what appeard for a brief second and then it was gone.

I have followed the five step process and I hope I post this right. If not, I apologize now since I am not the most tech savvy. I also thank you ahead of time for any assistance you can offer.

I've been having problems on this version of windows 7 ultimate 64x I installed on a friend's computer. Everything works fine but firefox occassionally would open a new tab to random spamware sites and things of that nature but only when firefox was open. The other problem I'm having is that before this started, everything ran great, but now, the internet on this computer runs horribly slow, I've ran speed tests on speedtest.net and it's showing ping of over 300 and downloads and upload speed of under 1.00 mb/s. I run the same tests on my laptop and it's showing my internet is running fine at 10-15 mb/s.  The desktop runs fine otherwise.  I can't seem to shake this problem.  I thought I had fixed it last night when things ran great again, but this morning when i booted it up, the same problem with the internet happened.  I have no idea what's going on. I have ran malware bytes, rkill, and combo fix scans. I have the combofix log attatched to this. I look forward to any help / insite you guys can give me into this problem.

Answer:Firefox problems and mega slow internet connectivity but computer runs fine.

Hi,
My laptop was recently the victim of some malware/virus and I can't figure out how to fix it. I've tried the suggested steps to clear it from my system, and have tried running a few anti virus programs while in safe mode. The Dr Web scanner indicated that there was some malware in my dell support system files, which I've attempted to delete . In the past few days, I've deleted some files that are supposedly incosequential (ie Dell connect, etc), but now I am wondering if I deleted a file I shouldn't have. I was going via the advice given on some other forums, regards the neccessity of some of these programs.

I have a Dell inspiron e1705 with Windows Vista (32 bit) .

Some of the symptoms of the problem include:
-no wireless intenet availability (says "the adapter is not connected") - never had a problem previously
- very slow with frequent freezes
-I do not see any obvious resource taken up the memory space in the Windows Task Manager log
-Occasionally, some random tmp files have appeared all of a sudden on my desktop.

Hello, alexismyname
Welcome to TSF

My name is Billy O'Neal and I will be helping you. (Billy or Bill is fine, if you like.)
Please give me some time to look over your computer's log(s).
Please take note of the following:In the meantime, please refrain from making any changes to your computer.
Also, even if things appear to be running better, there is no guarantee that everything is finished. Please continue to check this forum post in order to ensure we get your system completely clean. We do not want to clean you part-way up, only to have the system re-infect itself. :)
If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
Finally, please reply using the button in the lower left hand corner of your screen.
Old topics are closed after 3 days with no reply, and working topics are closed after 5 days. If for any reason you cannot complete instructions within that time, that's fine, just put a post here so that I know you're still here. We get a lot of people who simply leave, and if there is no contact for that amount of time I will have to assume you have "vanished" .

Hi

Welcome to the bleeping computer forum

Unfortunately, intermittent issues are one of the difficult fault to troubleshoot. Please follow the below steps to collect some basic info about your system.

1 ) Generate a report about your system using Speccy by reading the guide below.

   http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/323892/publish-a-snapshot-using-speccy/

Post the web link displayed by Speccy in next reply.

2 ) Download and run Minitoolbox from http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/minitoolbox/

Run the tool and only select the following tick boxes.

-List last 10 Event viewer errors
    -List installed programs
    -List devices
-List users, partition and memory size

Now click "Go" and post the output in next reply

After reading your logs, either me or any other forum volunteer will assist to you to diagnose the issue.

Edit:

Don't ever use the registry cleaning function in CCleaner or Glary utilities. Only use them to clean the temp files. Using registry cleaners may cause unpredictable damage to the registry. If anyone properly knows which registry keys are garbage, that is only Microsoft.

For some odd reason, in the past 4 weeks, my streaming video has become VERY slow, and I do not know why. I have a high-speed cable connection, the same I have had for the past 6 months. It is slow, sound-with-stil-images and/or constantly rebuffering, and this is true with WIndows Media, Winamp, Realplayer and even Flash videos (on YouTube for example). I cannot take it anymore. I tried this Hijackthis thing, and this is my log:

Alright, so today i replaced my dad's powersupply and got an "Error Loading OS" Message for his system when it previously had XP on it. So i said forget messing with it ill just put vista on it and call it a day.

After putting the vista disk in it seemed to go pretty slow compaired to how it was on mine. But in the end it took about 1hr to 1hr and 1/2 to install completely. After installing it took forever to do the first boot up and after it booted i could not move the mouse more than one direction every 2 minutes or so. The system would apparently freeze or become completely bogged down for no reason.

So, this is a fresh install of Vista on a fairly good machine. Any reason why it is running as though it has the worst specs in the world?

PS: It runs fine in Safe Mode.....

The System configuration is as follows:

OS: Vista Ultimate 64bit
MoBo: Asus P5NSLI
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
Graphics Cards: Nvidia 8600GT x2 SLI
Hard Drives: 3 various, one 80, one 200g, one 300g
RAM: 4gigs of corsair or something of the form.. namebrand to say the least

I Cant think of what else might help... it is doing this for NO REASON what so ever that i can find.

Answer:Help! Slow Computer, Slow Internet. Slow, Slow, Slow!

Hi MaryJane,Sorry for the delay, this forum is really swamped right now. I don't see any positive signs of malware in your log, although there is one thing that I am unsure about. I'll get to that in a minute. Before we do rootkit scans and use some other tools to confirm that malware is not the problem, let's do a quick check of resources.Press <Ctrl>-<Alt>-<Del> to open Task Manager, then click on the Processes tab. Place a check next to Show processes from all users. Note the numbers at the bottom, CPU usage should be running at 0 to no more than five percent if your system is idle (no background tasks running). If that is not the case, scroll down and see if any of the processes is running at a high percentage of CPU usage. On a normal system at idle the System Idle Process should show about 98 percent, meaning nothing else is using the CPU. The next columns to the right, memory usage and peak memory usage, may also show something out of line if one process is using a large amount of memory. If you see anything showing high CPU usage or high Memory usage, make a note of it.Now, click the Performance tab. The key numbers here are in the Commit Charge box -- The Total and Peak figures; and in the Physical Memory box, the Total figure. Make a note of these three numbers. I would like to see them, but I can tell you what I'm looking for: basically, any time the Commit Charge exceeds the total physical memory, Windows will have to constantly swap d... Read more

Extreme novice seeks patient geek to walk me through diagnosing and improving internet access. Able to speek plain language a must!

About the system: We have a new Dell System 8300 with lots of unused space. Unused space 66.38% to 90.74%. Memory on both Channel A&B 512MB. Intel Pentium processor with a speed of 3.0 GHz. Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection (Network Card) the Display adapter has 128MB. The modem is mode lBCM V.92 56K Modem. Microsoft Windows XP Professional. (All this I pass on to you without knowing much of what it's useful for)

Main Problem: Everything accessed on the internet comes and goes much slower than usual. Hard to say when it started. Perhaps 3 weeks ago.

Other Stuff: Curious what the "about:blank" address that comes up when I go into the internet has to do with my slow computer. Also, around the same time we noticed the fan runs at odd times and more frequently than it used to. Probably unrelated problem is my missing photos. I just learned how to download them from the digital camera the first week of July. Played with them. Printed a few out. Now I can't find them in any of our files.

HERES THE GOOD AND THE BAD:
We have five log-ons for our family.
Most sites we go to are very popular. Amazon, Noggin, Music Match but we've all tried the odd link that were not so reputable. What did you say about porn not being free and the puple guy not being worth downloading?

MEA CULPA!

I have quite a bit of computer experience as a tech for an isp. I also have 2 computer science degrees, but I am stumped on this one. I have asked everyone I know what to do for this issue and no one can give me any help. It has been going on for months and I have run many virus/spyware scans, including aol virus and spyware powered by mcafee, a squared, spybot, adaware, windows defender, system suite, spyware blaster, spyware guard, and trend micro house call. I have also ran many registry fixers and nothing has helped.

The main issue is that as soon as I connect to the internet, it takes about 10 minutes for me to be able to do anything. Before the connection is established, the system is normal. After connecting, I can't open any programs, or even task manager or control panel. After about 10 minutes, everything opens and seems to run normal, but still a bit slow. If I disconnect and try to log off or shut down while waiting for IE to open, it freezes the computer and I have to manually shut down. I do go through the task manager and shut down everything that I can before signing on to the internet and it does not make any difference.

I ran a scan with Hijack This and the logfile is below....

Answer:Runs SLOW, especially right after internet connection

Just happened to me - you need to rollback your Ethernet drivers.

Right click My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager

Expand 'Network Adapters', and it's probably a Realtek driver (mine says 'Realtek RTL8193 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC'). Double-click on it, go to the Driver tab, and click 'Roll Back Driver'. If it says there's no backup, then it's at the original driver and it should be fine. If it doesn't, then it'll change back to an older version of the drivers and you'll see your router disconnect and reconnect again.

Everything should be working now... enjoy.

I recently re-formatted my Sony VAIO since it was starting to run super slow. Now that I re-installed Windows 7 on it through recovery disks, it worked fined for about a day but then the problem came back. The computer is slow at bootup and runs super slow while freezing so many times. I am running it on safe mode right now and its working fine.

I ran hardware diagnostics and everything is fine (Memory, Hard Disk etc.)

I installed Norton Antivirus and Windows Live Messenger after the re-install.

Please help me.

Answer:Computer Runs Slow + LOP

Yep...that's LOP all right...let's do this, before even tackling the infection, to ID any hidden jobs and folders.

Download fl.zip
Extract the contents to a new folder on Desktop.
Within the folder, locate & double-click fl.bat.
It should produce a report at c:\findlop.txt. Post the contents of the report in your next reply

HP Compaq running Win 7 started running very slow. Scanned with Adwcleaner and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, but did not solve. Assume virus but not able to eliminate it. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Computer runs very slow

Hi ront162aol,
Let's find out why.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Download and Run the Farbar Scan Tool

Download FRST64 and save to your Desktop.

Double click Frst64.exe to launch it.
FRST64 will start to run.
When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press the Scan button.
When finished scanning, 2 logs will open on your Desktop, FRST.txt and Addition.txt
Please post them in your next reply.

If you lose track of them, they will be saved in the same location as FRST64.exe
Feel free to use separate replies if it's more convenient.

Answer:Computer runs slow sometimes

hello ,

now what i need to do is go to your (device manager)

now once there you will want to select from the toolbar of the window(veiw) then a drop down menu / from it you will select (show all hidden devices)

now if you see any (red or yellow) quotation marks , make a note of what they

now go to the (event veiwer) this is thru the (administrator tools) in the control panel
here you will find 3 to 4 subcatagories

you will want to check each of them for this is where windows keeps track of all errors
now you will want to make notes of the errors that have been recorded ( you do not have to make notes of double entries just of the dates of their happenings & how many there is)
you will get more information on the errors if you (right) click them / then select properties

also

do you have a Windows Xp cd, not the restore cd's that come with some systems, the cd will have the Windows logo & 3D hollowgram/image on it

if you do not maybe you can barrow one from a friend/family member/co-worker as long as it is the same version that is on your system

if you have (Windows XP Home Ed. sp2 ) then the cd will have to be that / if you have a cd with (Windows XP Home Ed. )you will have to slipstream (SP2 ) onto a disk that you create

this also applies to (Windows XP Professsional )

http://www.helpwithwindows.com/Windo...p2-bootcd.html

now if you do have the Windows XP cd with sp2 please follow these steps

Hi
My laptop has all of a sudden become incredibly slow. I did not install or remove any soft- or hardware before this, it just happened. I have since cleaned the registry, defrag'd, ran SuperAntiSpyware, did and undid several system restores, and updated Firefox. I restarted the computer in "safe mode" several times. I even tried to disable all but the essentials in the startup window of the System Configuration Utility and disabled/re-enabled everything under the "services" tab. On a previous computer I had a problem with restore points keeping bad information, so I decided to delete all restore points when there was no improvement after going back over a month for a clean running machine. I'm at a loss as to what to try next. I hpe you have some suggestions. The HT log is attached. Thanks!

Answer:Computer runs very slow

What I usually do in this case is "msconfig" and disable all my "startup" programs that I dont need and maybe even some services that arent "microsoft". Try that then reboot and add the programs 1 by 1 rebooting after each to find the culprit program/service.

In case you dont know how to "msconfig" all you do is:

1)click start
2)click run
3)type " msconfig " without the quotes
4)uncheck unwanted programs/services from the "startup and services" tab.

Hello renee Welcome to the BC HijackThis Log and Analysis forum. Some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process. In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Options. If you click on this in the drop-down menu you can choose Track this topic. By doing this and then choosing Immediate E-Mail notification and then clicking on Proceed you will be advised when we respond the your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine. Please keep in mind that we have a large backlog of users just like yourself waiting to be helped so try to be as timely as possible in your replies. Is there a checklist or some type of guide to follow for "tweaking" everything to speed it up, besides the usal, Defrag, Scan Disk, AdAware, SpyBot, etc. Can someone please help this disabled combat veteran help speed up my sons computer? Thank You.

Question: Computer runs slow

Randomly, about 2-3 weeks ago my computer began to run slowly. If I'm just browsing the internet or using word documents and things like that it is fine and I cannot tell. The problem lies in things like playing games or running programs like itunes. I checked for all virus/malware, and there was nothing that I could see. I did a defrag and cleaned/cleared the registry and temp folder. Does this sound like it could be a hardware or driver problem? If its not a virus, could you give me a few other reason a computer would start doing this randomly.

Answer:Computer Runs Slow

Hello metwo and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I do not see any signs of viruses or malware in this log. It is clean.

I'm not sure what was meant by "programes seemed to find alot of things
and removed them". What programs found alot of things and what was removed? Also, was BitDefender on this machine and then removed? It does not appear that the uninstallation was complete because there are still some entries hanging around that were not cleaned up.

Post back with some additional details and I will review the information when it comes in.

Cheers.

Question: Computer Runs Slow

Hey guys. I am on my friends Dell Dimension 3000. Not the top of the line computer as I'm sure you know, but it used to run good enough for her. However, now it runs incredibly slow. She hasn't installed a ton of programs on it, and she has virus software, runs ad-aware occassionally, I defraged it using Perfect Disk 8, and ran through the various features of WinASO. That has helped a little bit, but I'm hoping you guys can help some more.Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 6:44:19 PM, on 2/23/2007Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16414)Running processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgamsvr.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgupsvc.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\CTsvcCDA.EXEC:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7DEBUG\MDM.EXEC:\Program Files\Raxco\PerfectDisk\PDAgent.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\MsPMSPSv.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\WINDOWS\system32\Rundll32.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Upda... Answer:computer runs slow

have you gone to add or remove programs (under control panel) (classic view if using XP). Look it up if it is there you may want to delete it (WARNING: I am not sure what that program does so you may want to find that out first before deleting).

I have a 3 year old hewlett packard pc. it came with windows 98. I installed XP now it takes for ever to load once I turn it on. someone said I dont have enough memory, should I take XP off and re install 98 so it will run faster.  Thanks

First give some computer specifications. If you know how much memory you have that would be good info.Anyway, it is always better to get a new computer when you are upgrading operating systems.

My friend bought his computer 3 to 4 years ago and it's running slow when he runs this game called Soldier Front. His internet is Charter (http://www.charter.com/Visitors/Home.aspx). He says it runs fast when he's out of game, to like check email addreses, and go on the web. Here is some information I took from his System Properties.

Microsoft Windows XP
Media Center
Version 2002
Service Pack 3
Dell Dimension DM 051 Intel (R)
Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00 Ghz
2.99 Ghz, 512 RAM
Physical Address Extention

Soldier Front System Requirements

Your computer must meet certain minimum requirements in order
to play Soldier Front.
Before you download and install Soldier Front, please verify your system specifications.meet or exceed the following.
Minimum Requirements Recommended Requirements
OS Windows XP
CPU Pentium III 833MHz Pentium III 1.2 GHz
Graphics Card GeForce3 64MB GeForce4 128MB
DirectX DirectX 9.0b
RAM 256MB 512MB
Browser 5.5 or higher
Local Disk Drive You must have a partitioned local disk drive named C:\

Answer:Computer runs slow.

Firstly, i would suggest running ccleaner to clean up any files which might be slowing down the computer.

To me, 512mb doesn't sound like much for gaming. I would have said 1GB for worthwhile play. The minimum requirements are usually just high enough to run the game, let alone play it well.

If its an internet issues, the firewall can often block certain games from playing effectively. Try disabling it for a small amount of time and playing the game to see if it works.

Also, what graphics card is he using?

Hello,
I run XP pro (still service pack 1 after reinstallation) on a pentium 4, 3.0.
Computer runs sometimes very slow, sometimes running 80-90-100% so I just have to wait and wait till it slows down to continue.
I have installed already instaaled : ewido, spywareblaster, spywareguard, ie-spyad,..
Sometimes also orther explorer bar installed : www.search123forme.com/sp2.php.
Any suggestions on how to solve the problem.
Thank you

Answer:Computer runs sometimes very slow

For a slow computer, basic stuff to eliminate would be
chances of infection- if ur not sure, you might want to get ur log checked by a HTJ expert.
If there are too many items loading at start up, disable unnecessary ones.
Check ur HD space, if you havent already, run a disk cleanup and if the drive s fragmented, defrag it in safe mode after a chkdsk this can help improve performance.
How much RAM do you have? Consider adding more.
Aso if its been a long time, check if all ur fans are working fine and also blow out the dust.

It takes up to 15 minutes to start up when you first turn it on. Often takes up to 20 seconds for programs to come up when you hit start. Virtually all software programs take time to come up, even little ones like Notepad. Have lots of slowdowns and freeze ups when using the internet, including trying to type in url's. Anytime the computer isn't in use for a little while, starting up again is always very slow with frequent little freeze ups. Lately, even when we first turn the computer on, we get a low on virtual memory warning in the lower right corner. Somebody told me this could be the problem. If so, why would it need more memory now than in the past when it worked ok? We actually deleted lots of files and some software programs not be used, including video games.

We used Spybot, Malwarebytes and our anti virus program a few days back and all 3 came up with no problems.

Thanks.

Hello everyone,

I just got a new broadband line installed at home today. The thing is, at home we have two laptops (one is a Samsung 5 Series Ultra with Windows 7 Home Premium x64 and the other one is a MacBook) and an iPad.

Both the MacBook and the iPad don't have any issues when connecting to the Internet. However with the Samsung laptop (which unluckily happens to be mine, both the other things are my girlfriend's ), while I don't have any troubles when connecting to the wifi network (I even have full 5 bar signal and it says I'm connected to the internet at 150 mbps), when I try to load any website (even light ones, like Google or Gmail) it takes ages for my computer to do it, and most of the times they don't even load at all.

I don't know what could it be, since when I connect to other wifi networks (like at public places, or even when I use my cellphone as a hotspot) everything runs perfectly fine. That makes me think that the problem is with the router, however both the macbook and the iPad don't have the same issue at all so, on the other hand, the issue may lie within my computer.

Please help me! Thanks a lot in advance!

Answer:Internet Explorer Runs Incredibly Slow

Hey, it seems to be a "Vista" thing if you know what I mean. I too have the same problem at least once a week. I have to reboot my computer and that takes care of it untill about 4 or 5 days later. Usually what happens right before that, Vista will drop my wireless connection and refuse to reconnect to the router unless I restart my computer.

I haven't heard or seen anything on Microsofts website that states that they are going to do anything about it.. I'll keep you posted if something does come up. I hope that helps you out.

Hello. I have a problem that is killing me.Problem: The internet speed on my laptop runs rediculously slow.Details:I have a laptop that runs Windows Vista, and I use Internet Explorer.I have a DSL wireless router (Actiontec GT704WG). Whenever I try to run the internet connection from that router on my lap top, it connects, but it runs unbearably slow. For most sites, as slow or slower than Dial up.My usual method is connecting wireless, but I have tried to connect both wired and wireless, each time it runs at the same speed. Now the real frustrating and confusing part is that the speed is fine when I connect to other wirelss connections. And the connection in question runs perfectly fine on the desktop computer it is wired to. It has also run fine on other people's wireless laptops.Things I have tried:Again, I have connected my laptop directly to the router, and tried it wirelessly with excellent signal strength.I have tried all that I could with any known firewalls. Disabling, what have you.I have completely cleared all cookies and cached files, even setting IE back to it's default settings.SO. Basically it seems that the connection specific to my home router is unusually slow specifically with my laptop. It's incredibly frustrating and confusing.ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

we currently have 2 computers set up in my house, both connected to the internet through an adsl router. my computer (computer A) works fine for internet and internet/lan games. computer B however is set up retardedly.

- it can connect to the internet fine
- it cant play lan/internet games in some cases
- can connect to world of warcraft (internet game)
- cant connect to MOHAA (another internet game)
- cant play warcraft 3 or MOHAA over LAN
- has 2 network cards for some reason, both show up in the network places thing
- in some cases cant access other computers
- sometimes internet lags out and just sits there

we have screwed around with the settings trying to get it to work but at the moment the above conditions is where we are at now. at the moment we have network card A set up with TCP/IP and all that, automatic IP address but put in our dns settings. network card B is enabled but unticked all the protocols/services/clients in the properties. it isnt my computer so i havent screwed with the settings much. any ideas on how we can get the gaming to work?

But then Windows refuses to start and messege apears ''Windows fails to start, due to recent hardware or software change...'' I get the option Starup repair, and when scan is finished,Restore button apears. I HAVE TO restore it to ''the time it worked corectlly''.That is the only way to get it working for next 12 hours. Hello smart folks,

My Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop used to boot up in under a minute. Now, it takes several minutes and any time I run a program it takes a long time for them to boot up. And, heck, I see delays in programs while they're in use.

I just upgraded from 512MB to 2 GB of RAM hoping that would help. It didn't.

I've followed your steps and I think my computer is a lot safer now. Thank you.

I run Norton antivirus.

I feel like the biggest contributor to my laptop's slowness is Enterprise Office 2007. Some little searching magnifying glass seems to always be on and my computer's hard drive seems to grind a lot even when the computer should be sitting there idle.

If I open a Microsoft Office 2007 program like Word, Excel, or Outlook, they open REALLY slowly.

Also, can you please recommend a good registry scrubber? I like freeware, but I'll buy it if I must. That RegCure program seems like a scam. Below is my HiJack This log. I've also included the start up log below it since my start up is so slow.

Thank you.

DO KNOW :  I am very new to windows 7 and all it's features.
When I brought this computer home  last Nov. it was lightening fast at everything! so much better than  the windows XP  it replaced, I was thrilled.  yet Now starting in  April 2015  it is as slow  or slower  as my old Windows with XP ever was  ( and partially the reason for saving my  pennies to get this windows 7 computer)...and  now I'm upset. feeling  like I have been taken.

Computer displays the following :
3.8 windows experience index
Intel pentium dual 2.0Ghz  processor
64 Bit

Has Ccleaner installed
has Comodo antivirus and Comodo cleaning essentials installed.
All virus scans  find no infections,  and report that all is well and protected.  ( B/C of the way the computer is operating i'm doubting that and betting there is an infections of some sort)

I Have run Comodo cleaning essentials and  results find no abnormalities or infections.
Have run TFC and JRT  and the computer shows no signs of improvement.
have run rKill  and it  finds  no abnormalities  or infections.
All virus scan results  find no infections.

Answer:Windows 7 computer suddenly slow to get on internet, slow to browse websites etc

Hi flywelder Maybe we aren't looking at an infection here. There's tons of reasons why a system can slow down, and not all of them are malware related. Let's try to take a look at this issue under another angle shall we?MiniToolBoxDownload MiniToolBox and move the executable file to your Desktop;Execute MiniToolBox and check the following options:List Installed Programs;List Last 10 Event Viewer Errors;List Devices - Only Problems;List Users, Partitions and Memory size;Once this is done, click on Go and wait for the scan to complete;Once the scan is complete, a log will open. My computer has been experiencing intermittent periods of what I can only describe as slow-motion. It has only happened while I've been playing video games, rocket league to be specific, and it does not self-resolve until I restart.

I followed some instruction in this thread: http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-c...-graphics.html which led me to the verifier.exe program. After running that and restarting, I got a BSOD with the code DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. Here is the log for the crash:Attachment 103595.

I've been monitoring my temps and nothing seems out of the ordinary there. Also, my CPU is under normal load at all times, even while in 'slow motion'. I built this computer a little over a year ago and only started having this problem for about a week. The only changes I can think of would be that I re-enabled windows store using powershell commands. (I had disabled everything that I don't use a while ago and never had any issues until now)

Specs:
Windows 10 64bit
i5-6500 3.20GHz water cooled
EVGA GTX 970 4gb (3.5gb)
8gb RAM
Gigabyte Z170-Gaming-X mobo
EDIT: It self-resolved once while playing. I didn't do anything to fix it and i'm not sure why it fixed itself. None of my temps changed and I was monitoring CPU load with task manager, no change there either.

I've got an Asus N76V with the following specs:

CPU: Intel Core I7-3630QM, 2.4GHz
Memory: 8GB
OS: Win8

This computer wasn't cheap and I bought it specifically because I was told it would be fast, powerful, and pretty good for gaming. This isn't an exclusive gaming computer though, as I use it for just about everything. I'm very disappointed in its performance though. I've got a six year old HP that isn't nearly as powerful, but runs much faster. I especially notice it when using the internet as it takes forever to load pages and even longer if I'm trying to watch a video clip on YouTube. I thought that maybe it was just my internet, but I've used it multiple places with the same results. Is there any way to check to see what I may need to instal/uninstall to make it run better?

One other bit of information that my be helpful. When I bought the computer, it was a previously returned item. I was told that the whole thing had been wiped and reset so that it was like new. Could that have anything to do with it running the way it does? I've also experienced crashes on a couple of occasions. I'll restart my computer, log in to my account, then try to access the desktop and I will get a code that says, irql_not_less_or_equal. What does this mean and is there something I need to do to get it to stop happening? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Computer runs agonizingly slow, please help.

Welcome to Tech Support Guy

1.
When I bought the computer, it was a previously returned item.Click to expand...

It very much depends of course on why it was returned - when you ask
Could that have anything to do with it running the way it does?Click to expand...

the answer could be YES - VERY OCCASIONALLY there is a transient defect in a hardware component and the fact it was reformatted and windows reinstalled will of course NEVER repair a hardware defect

I am not suggesting it is the case, but it may have been subjected to a severe jolt/dropped etc and that could possibly have caused the defect

The foregoing is unlikely but entirely possible, as is simply a bad component.

2. The error
irql_not_less_or_equal.Click to expand...

means in simple terms - normally that a driver has attempted to access memory at a level that is not allowed

3. To even attempt to ascertain the cause we need the dump file
I can advise you on how to send me that
BUT
my best advice is depending on from where and when purchased and under which terms of sale and warrantry that you consider referring back to the seller - depending on how long you have had the
Asus

4. The reason I say that is that, you cannot then be faced with any suggestion that you have caused problems by your attempts to solve the problem of the apparent inherent poor performance and the crash

Hello,
The last several days my computer has been running so loud and slow, especially AOL (it's usually a few seconds behind when I am typing). I've run scan disk, defrag, 2 types of spyware, 2 virus scans, everything I could think of, and it all comes up clean. I've removed several things from my computer and put them on disk to free up space, though it's always said I have plenty of space. I thought the problem might have been my aol (I know I know, but I can't help it, I am used to it!) and reinstalled it but that didn't help either. I pretty much only know the basics of computers and at this point I am out of options. I did the hijack this and I am putting my log below, if anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated! Oh, I have a dell deminsion 8400 and windows XP.

About a year or 2 ago, my brother bought a rather expensive computer off of Newegg. In the interest of a shorter post, it will suffice to say the computer works. Sort-of. It was built to run CAM and CAD programs like Solidworks, Peps and recently, Visi. Which it does, only in the worst possible manner. When running something like Solidworks, it either runs like clockwork, or a brick oven. If you get the former, everything works marvelously. Everything responds, everything works. When you get the latter, everything works, but at turtle speeds. The computer takes ages to do something as simple as rotating the view. Trying to draw something is painstaking. The computer locks up, freezes and crashes until eventually you get fed up to the point of restarting the computer and trying again, hoping it won't slow down again. It's not only with the software that it runs like that either. Using IE, Chrome or Firefox, it's clear something isn't running right. Trying to scroll down the page too fast sends the computer into a lag that can last up to 10 minutes, only to have it play catch-up and then lock-up. Recently it's decided to get worse. Using it to view any kind of "system heavy" task, it immediately begins to seize, and will not allow for any kind of process managing. Everything runs slow, and none of it can be ended. It also keeps all 4 processors running at a solid 50%.It' a powerful computer, so I don't get why its having these pr... Read more
