Preferred Solution: unable to share my lan connection

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi guys i need some help.

I have a laptop with windows7 installed and PC with windows xp installed.

I am using tp-link with a capability of wired&wireless modem router.

I connected my laptop via wireless and connected the internet, it is working properly.

When i connected to the xp PC via Lan connection. I can able to share the files.
But i am unable to share the internet connection.

What i have done so far
1. Checked the sharing option in wireless lan.
2.Checked the option sharing in broadband connection in laptop windows7.
3.Changed the properties of the local area connection in PC to ip address as 192.168.2.2 (where windows7 laptop ip address is 192.168.2.1) and subnet mask as 255.255.255.0
And leave other as blank

still it is not connecting to internet.

Answer:unable to share internet connection between laptop and PC

Sharing, as in networking, relies on the XP and 7 machines being assigned to the same 'workgroup' within each machines settings. Sharing in this sense is LAN side.

You do not need to bridge/share at adapter level at all. Let the TP Link device use it's DHCP server to enable connection sharing. Sharing in this sense refers to the WAN side internet connection being made available to both machines on the routers LAN side.

My internet connection is part of the Earthlink Municipal internet service, meaning it's wifi. I have previously used a single antenna from Earthlink to connect but thought that my signal may improve if I added a 3 antenna 802.11n card to my computer.

The problem is that previously the antenna from earthlink connected to the wan port on my router and was plug/play but now I'm trying to share my internet through my computer via my built-in ethernet. I have a mac and I've turned on internet sharing but that doesn't seem to work. I'm wondering if I need to manuallu set IP addresses for both the ethernet that's connecting to the router and the router itself. I'm not able to ping the router either. Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hello,
I have been having issues with sharing my internet connection via an ethernet cable. I read online that there is the ability to 'share' your internet connection. I have learned how to do this, but it doesnt work for me. I tried connecting my laptop. I went through everything and I was able to get the connection (it showed the LAN connectivity icon) however, there was the little yellow triangle next to it. I waited but it won't connect. What I am trying to do with this is be able to play multiplayer on computer games with other computers on my LAN. I also tried to connect my XBox 360 with this, but it doesnt have an internet connection. Any help I would appreciate.

Things to keep in mind

The only way I could get a good internet service was through my cell phone service provider, so I get my internet connection through my phone via USB tethering

All of the computers I am trying this on have Windows 8 Pro, except for one

Answer:Unable to share internet connection via ethernet cable

You really haven't described how you have your multiple computers setup to to share a single internet service connection. For example, are you using a router that has 2 ethernet cables plugging into it and you are attempting to share the same internet service?

That device ID is for the Intel I219-V ethernet card, so that driver seems to be missing from the package. Are you able to add just the LAN driver manually?

Greetings,
I have an odd issue.. a user reports that they are unable to access a network shared folder from their PC. Here is what I have gathered so far:
-The network share is from their PC located at C:\SQL2014. The share name is SQL2014. Their hostname for this example is "ABC".
-If I attempt to connect to the share from the user's PC ABC to \\ABC\SQL2014 I get the generic error:
  "Windows cannot access \\ABC\SQL2014
You do not have permission to access \\ABC\SQL2014. Contact your network administrator to request access."
-If I attempt to connect to the share by ABC's IP \\192.168.1.140\SQL2014 I can access it.
-If I attempt to connect to the share by ABC's FQDN at  \\ABC.domain.com\SQL2014 I can access it.
-If I map ABC\SQL2014 as a drive letter, I can access it.
-Connecting to this share works fine from any other PC other than ABC.
-I've confirmed the error is affecting any profile old or new on ABC, which means it is a PC-wide issue on ABC.
-If I share C:\SQL2014 as ANY OTHER NAME OTHER THAN SQL2014, I can access it. As in if I share C:\SQL2014 with the share name SQL2014a, I can access \\ABC\SQL2014a.
-Deleted the share and recreated - same issue.
-Created C:\Test and shared it as SQL2014, cannot access \\ABC\SQL2014. It is NOT an issue with the actual SQL2014 folder.

From internet searches I've found the following solutions do not affect my case:
-Clearing CSC/Offline cache (most common working solution)
-C... Read more

Question: Unable to Share

I have a wired internet connection in my building, we are all assigned an IP (mine is 172.16.0.33) , the gateway is 172.16.0.1. The .33 was assigned to my pc and I could share files with other people in the building. Now I added a wireless router (D-link dir600) I assigned the IP which was on my computer to the router(172.16.0.33) and my PC now had a 192.168.0.xx IP (Assigned by the router). I can still access the internet, but I cannot see my friends computer in my network place anymore. Please help.

Question: Unable to share.

While on Facebook recently I noticed that the site went a bit 'funny' for several seconds. Some images wouldn't load. Since then I've been unable to share music video links from YouTube to Facebook with the video clip thumbnail intact. I can share the audio no problem but the image/thumbnail is missing. Please see screenshot.
This isn't the first time this has happened.
I don't know if the problem is with Facebook, YouTube or Google Chrome or a combination of these.
You will see from the screenshot that the video clip can be shared but the thumbnail is missing which means if I go any further and share the clip only the audio will be shared.
My O.S. is Windows XP Home and my Google Chrome is up to date.
So, can anyone help with an easy solution ?

Greetings, I have 3 Windows 7 computers in my home, 1 is a laptop and 2 are PCs, I own the laptop and (what I'm going to call) PC1 to make things simple.

When I attempt to open another computer from PC1 in Windows Explorer I get the error 0x80070035 The network path was not found (the very second I double click it, as if it's not even trying to connect). My laptop and PC2 are able to share with no issues and can even transfer files from themselves to PC1. I am at a loss at this point because I literally have been trying to fix this for almost a month, but to no avail.

Ways I have attempted to troubleshoot this are;

- Disabling Firewalls and Antiviruses completely
- Making sure the Windows Sharing center are correct (even though they are not part of the same workgroup - which I have also ruled out as a possible solution)
- I am able to ping PC2 and my laptop in CMD from PC1 with no troubles.
- Using \\(ComputerName) in Windows Explorer on PC1 comes up with the same error message as above.
- IPv6 is enabled and Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP is selected in the IPv4 settings of my adapters on all devices.

These are the only suggestions I can recall doing, since I have been to countless sites, trying to find a possible fix, I simply cannot remember all possible solutions I have tried offhand.
I am extremely grateful for any solutions anyone may have.

- Alec

Answer:Unable to Share From One PC

If they are not part of the same workgroup, I would not expect them to be able to share files.  Any sharing that I have done between Win 7 and XP systems (I have 3 computers) or Win7 to Win 7...same workgroup between the O/S installs attempting to share...seems to be a prerequisite.

Hello all, first time post. I've been doing a lot of internet searching and am coming here because a lot of threads I read on here seemed to have people that were knowledgeable.

So I have two desktop machines. My old one (NEWCHODE - Windows 7 Home) and my new one (CHODEPRO - Windows 7 Pro). I use the same login name on both machines but do not have passwords set up on them. I want to share out the whole C:\ on NEWCHODE. I thought it was possible to do this without having to use passwords. I did it on my XP machines.

In any case, I have the share on NEWCHODE set up to give everyone Full Control. But when I try to access it from CHODEPRO I get the message in the screenshot here:

This is how I have the share set up on NEWCHODE:

If I try to share individual folders within the C:\ by highlighting the folder, clicking Share With > then Homegroup (Read/Write) I see those folders appear the same way C and ChodeC do in the top screenshot. But trying to access them gives me the same message.

My homegroup settings are set the same way on both machines:

Any ideas? I'm seriously out and my internet searching hasn't given me anything new.

Answer:Unable to share anything.

I know that generally i need a router and have to plug the TW modem into router/switch combo, setup MAC address cloning, then attach PC's to router/switch ports but was wondering if i can set it up without router..?Telewest BB connection just has the Motorola sb4200 surfboard cable modem plugged straight into PC 01 via installed NIC.Can i add an additional NIC into PC 01, connect it with RJ45 CAT 5 x-over cable to a PCMCIA NIC for the laptop (PC 02) to get an Internet connection using ICS in Windows XP that runs on PC 01, or do i have to go with the router option, any help, alternative solutions (bridging), suggestions, thanks in advance...

Answer:Telewest BB Connection Help (share connection)

Personal opinion would be to go down the router road. However:Why not consider wireless? It's relatively cheap these days.2 wireless pci adapters will allow you to connect both machines for file sharing and pc1 can be used as PC 2's web access. You can buy 2 wireless adapters (802.11b) from ebuyer for 40 delivered and no doubt cheaper from the local PC shop. The only downside to this method is pc1 has to be switched on if PC requires web access. If you go to the blueyonder networking section click here they'll quite happily supply you with netgear products to the tune of 111 for a router, wireless pcmcia card for laptop and usb wireless adapter for PC (802.11b).Definitely consider wireless, especially with the summer coming up and that nice Chardonnay you been saving can be sipped whilst you while away endless hours surfing on the lounger in the garden.Happy hunting

Hi

I have a new Windows 10 system (A) which has a printer attached. I'm trying to share the printer with another computer (B) also running windows 10, both computers can see each other on the network but when B tries to look at A it gets a message that it can't access A.

The printer is shared and as a far as I can see file and printer sharing is enabled but the add printer routine can't find it.

I can see A and it's shares on a W7 computer (C) on the same network without problem and it has detected and can use the printer.

All computers are in the same Workgroup and both W10 machines (A+B) are in the same Homegroup.

B was able to use the printer when it was attached to D, unfortunately D is now dead and replaced by A.

Any ideas

Thanks

Answer:Unable to share printer

If you have Advanced sharing properly set up, same as the sharing for the printer, so that "Everyone" can see it. It should show up on the other computer as a Network device in Devices and Printers.

Some printers do require the manufacturer software to be installed, before the computer sees the printer.

When people try to access it from the LAN, they get a message with something about not having the priviliges or not sufficient space or something... (It's in norwegian, so a bit hard to translate). My other harddrive has sharing working perfectly. I've also tried disabling the protection from my antivirus (NOD32) and the windows firewall.. Someone please help.

Make sure "File and Printer Sharing" is turned on for your LAN NIC. To do this, right-click on Network Places, then go to properties. Then right-click on the NIC and go to properties. Make sure there is a check mark next to File/Printer Sharing, and save changes.

If somebody has the same problem, you should try that out.

I'm trying to share my Epson R265 printer with my Advent 4211-B netbook. My Epson R265 is connected to desktop computer via a USB lead. Both computers workgroups are named MSHOME. Each computer has a different family name and the printer has been set to share and has the name EPSON. When I select 'add a printer' on the Advent, I get as far as specify the printer but do not have a URL or Name (it doesn't like EPSON) so I select browse 'for a printer' Next page is looking for printers, which displays Microsoft Windows Network then MSHOME, then the name of my desktop computer. There is a small + before the name but it does not do anything when clicked. The printer name does not appear. Typing EPSON in the box is not recognised. Is it possible that having the Epson connected through a USB is the cause? If not, any help would be much appreciated. The wireless link provided by a Linksys Router works fine, this request is created on the Advent.

I have an older model Linksys Wireless B broadband router that I use to share my internet connection. I want to share files as well, but the file sharing only works between two of the computers. The third computer can use the internet connection, but it cannot share files. I have ensured that the firewall settings are appropriate (heck, when I disable the firewall it still doesn't work). I've tried in Safe Mode w/Networking, and it still doesnt' work. I've tried the winsock repair and that didn't work. Pinging the computer returns no response, yet the computer still has no trouble connecting to the internet. It's on the correct workgroup too. I was finally able to get it to work by installing NetBEUI on all of the comptuers, but I'd rather just have TCP/IP installed. I also reset the TCP/IP stack on the computer. Any suggestions?

Hi everyone,
I'll try to keep it short. I have a headless ubuntu server that has a samba server. It's connected to the network with a cable (not wifi) and has a static IP. My desktop (also wired with static IP) is unable to see the samba share at all: not when I go to the network page and not when I type the IP address in. I am able to ping the ubuntu server from the windows machine and it responds.

I have two other windows 10 PCs that can see and interact with the samba share just fine. I also have a raspberry pi that has the samba share in question automounted and it works perfectly.

I have googled and researched this issue for hours and hours. I have tried a million things from editing my registry to turning on windows features and nothing helps. I finally re-installed windows for a fresh start and it still doesn't work!

I'm pulling my hair out and as a hail mary I thought I'd ask if anyone could help me out,
Thanks a million in advance.

Short Version:
When trying to enable printer sharing on Win7Ultimate PC, receive "Printer settings could not be saved. Operation coupld not be completed (error 0x000006cc)." when I click the apply button after checking the "Share this printer" tab. Printer works fine locally otherwise.

Long Version:
2 PCs - 1st PC is Win7 Ult with local printer attached via USB (Canon ip5200). 2nd PC is WIndows XP Home. Worked fine as a shared device ever since I installed Windows 7 Ult right after it came out. Rebooted Win7 PC and now WinXP machine cannot print. All jobs error. Delete/Add printer back to WinXP machine fine. Still cannot print. I can however see printer status (inkjet levels, etc) on WinXP machine.

Uninstalled printer on Win7 box, rebooted and added printer back in. Now when I try to share it again (regardless of the name I give it), I get a error "0x000006cc". Remote PC (WinXP machine) also cannot see printer any more.

One thing to note is a new version of Avira 10 on both PCs (Avira firewall was never installed) was installed 2 days ago. Several reboots since then. No changes to windows firewall settings until this trouble happened and I experiments with a few. No difference. Same with uninstalling Avira.

Answer:Unable to share printer!

"The print spooler failed to share the printer Canon Inkjet iP5200 with shared resource name Canon Inkjet iP5200, Error 1740. The printer cannot be used by others on the network."

Hey guys,

I have been having a crazy problem for a long time now. Basically I have two desktop computers that will connect to my router and see eachother on the network (one ethernet and one on wifi), however I also have one laptop that is supposed to be on the same domain, connects to the internet fine, but will not see the other computers on the network. To make things worse, I had a friends laptop that connected to my router and saw only the laptop that won't see the other two desktops. So I had two different computers that connected to eachother but would not see the other two. I have run through the wizards and set all computers to MSHOME and all have filesharing enabled. Any suggestions?

I have a machine with vista and a notebook with xp home. Im trying to share a cd drive on the vista machine to the xp one. I make the cd drive shareable in vista but trying to access it gives me a permissions error in xp. I can share normal folders just fine but it wont let me access this drive. Folders have a security tab when i right click them(allowing me to set a guest to access the folder) but that tab is missing from the cd drive.
Is there any way I can get this to work? I also have all firewalls disabled.

Answer:Unable to share cd drive over network

Try turning off password protected sharing, see if that helps.

I'm having trouble sharing custom libraries between my desktop and laptop PC. When I choose one of the default folders to share (Documents, Videos, etc) I can get those shares to show up on my laptop. However, when I try to share my Apps folder instead of getting this when I click the "Share With" drop down box...

I only get "Advanced Sharing"? I can't figure out why... does anyone know?

Seems like I am always having issues with File and print sharing. I am trying to print share a PC running XP Pro and a Laptop running Vista. I made sure they had the same work group name. Print shared the XP computer and gave it a shared name. Allowed Net bios over IP/TCP. Disabled simple file sharing. The Vista computer isn't able to detect the printer on the XP PC via a network connection. Therefore I tried to Make a local port with the IP address of the XP PC and install the driver. Unfortunately this did not work. It seems like if the two PC's could see each other than it would be easy to install the driver from the XP PC onto the Vista PC. The XP PC says the workgroup is not accessible and you may not have admin rights to use this network resource. Therefore I cannot see the Vista PC in Network places on the XP PC. I can now see the XP PC on the Vista PC, but it doesn't allow me to access it (cannot access \\Richard). I have performed this many times before without any problems, but for some reason with these two computer's I am having trouble. The user name and passwords don't have to be the same do they? I download Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder ... on the XP PC. I have read many posts on this topic as It is something I really want to know how to troubleshoot. I can't think of what else to try. Please Help. Thanks.

Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in the Public folders.

Entering the Username/Password of either machine does not work.

Hi there people!

Well... I'm having a hard time sharing stuff between the folowing machines:
- A Windows 2000 desktop (yeah, I know, pretty old, but does it's work)
- My Windows 7 Home Premium desktop (has dual boot with XP Professional SP3)
- A Windows 7 Professional laptop.

Here what I did:
- Set names to each PC
- Set every PC to "HOME" work group
- Windows 7 PC's set on Work network
- All necessary services enabled (UPNP discovery, Server, device discovery, SSDP...)
- Windows Firewall enabled (Just in XP and 7 envionments, in 7 is a MUST since every time I configure something in the sharing and network center, it enables itself...)
- ESET Firewall disabled (just in Windows 7, XP and 2000 using ESET NOD32 2.7 which has no firewall)
- Disabled simple file sharing on XP

Now the problems as follow:
Whenever I try to acces 2000 machine from 7 machines, I get a "Unable to access resource" message... None of the 7 machines can see each other nor access shared stuff. Only XP is able to access shared resources from 7 machines (In this case, only my latop, since my other 7 instalation does dual boot with XP), cannot see it on the network... but acesing the route to the shared resource works...BUT 7 machine is not able to access XP resources... Obviously, 2000 and XP can share everithing without problems...

I don't know if this is clear... basically I have 3 pc's, but only XP and 2000 comunicate properly, 7 cannot access my 7 laptop and inverse, and only XP i... Read more

Answer:Unable to Share in a lil' network between XP, 2000 and 7...

I also configured the security tab and the permissions... even setting to just "All" the users able to see the folder with read only permissions... the owner is me (Username = NAMEOFMYPC/FerchogtX) or I even changed that to "All" too... just XP and 2000 can share properly XD

One problem I noticed is that the sharing permissions in Windows 7 needs to have "Everyone" added and you will probably want the permissions to be read/write.

The tutorial in the link below shows you where you add "Everyone" to the permissions list.

sorry if this has been covered - I did not find a similar situation to mine, although there were some that gave me hoipe around page 5-6. Here goes...

We have had three PCs sharing cable modem Internet access thru a Linksys router. We dont network the PCs together for file sharing, though. This has been working trouble free for over a year now. I recently assembled a new PC for my wife, and before I turned it over to her, I just wanted to quickly download + install a few programs that she uses on her current PC. Here is where I ran into problems. For some reason, I cannot get this PC to release the IP of the NIC and pick up a new one. Although I specify in set-up to use dynamic IP adresses (none of the other PCs are assigned an IP), this new PC just doesn't seem to auto update the IP.

I have WIN 2000 on this PC (I use this OS on my own PC and have had no problems with it), and when I execute 'start > run >cmd > ipconfig /release' I get this message:

"Windows 2000 IP Configuration

All adapters bound to DHCP do not have DHCP addresses. The addresses were automatically configured and can not be released."

I went to MS support chat, and the techs told me to check www.practicallynetworked.com , (three times), where I found a lot of useful info, but nothing about the PC not releasing/renewing the IP. I even tried another web board, which was very helpful, but we were unable to resolve this problem.

I have found a partial answer, I am still looking for the rest of the solution.

Originally my network of 5 computers were a mix of 2K, XP home & pro connected through a Linksys AP/switch/router.

Networking worked fine for a period until 1 day I added a new laptop to the network. Networking stopped working on all machines except the 2k which could access the XP pro.

All machines still saw each other but if I tried to access resources across the network the computer used would freeze for a minute or two without accessing the resource. The XP home machines gave no error message but the XP pro gave a message which I can't remember as it was a while ago. It did not even hint at the resolution.

I spent days trying to resolve the problem and finally stumbled onto Microsoft support article # Q177078. In XP there is a registry entry under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Paramaters

Under this key is an entry IRPStackSize which has a default value of 15, the valid range is 11 - 50. It is recommended to increase in steps of three.

I increased IRPStack to 20 on all machines and networking worked again.

It seems that this stack records resources available on the network and when the resources surpass a certain size the network ceases to function.

I have 2 80gb drives with extensive directory structures on one of the machines. I am guessing the stack must contain the directory structure of machines accessed on the network and these exte... Read more

Sattellite modem eh? I am not sure what the default bandwidth is on the ethernet port or whether or not you use some sort of PPPoE dialer for it to connect ot the internet. As far as your other problem that you said you found a solution for, everything I have read concerning this tweak has to do with Norton Anti-Virus 2000 setting these restrictions when it installs. Maybe it is for their firewall or Live Update. I am sure installing the latest service pack would also do the same thing and set it back to the defauly value of 11 for Win2k.

Ok, this is like a stubborn nut to me. I've setup a home network with 2 routers. My computer which im using right now is connected to Router 1 and where the modem is connected as well as the Router 2 (duh! ). I've disabled the DHCP Server on Router 2 so I have no problem accessing the net on the computers connected to it. However, i'm unable to access/see the shared folders in those computers connected to Router 2.

List that i've tried:

Same Domain on all computers - OK
Used the Home Network Setup tool on 'My Network Neighborhood' - Same result, can't share anything.
Unblocked the firewall to allow the specific IP's on all computers to see each other.

Any suggestions on what else should be done? I'm using Windows XP in all computers if that helps.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Unable to share files with 2 routers

Do you have Norton/anything software firewalling your ports on the computers or one of them... or do you have firewalls on the routers that are running into each other and not leting ports throughput. Have a question? WHY are you using two routers? just try it with one. and do you have SP2 that will help and try configure out your Home Network Setup more... there are lots of options...GOOD LUCK

Hi,

Ive just installed Vista Ultimate 64 bit on my comp and im having trouble sharing files with another computer that has WinXP 32bit installed.

Ive checked that the workgroup names are the same and that file sharing is enabled, but it wont allow me to access files on my vista machine FROM the winxp machine.

I have no trouble accessing files on the winxp machine from my vista machine, but it wont work the other way around. It gives me an access denied error due to permissions, even though I let it have full control.

Could this be because the 32bit is clashing with the 64 bit? Because I previously have winxp installed on both machines and file sharing was working fine.

Unable to share files over Network

I'm wondering if the requirement to log in is what's preventing me sharing on my network - on which 4 other laptops running Windows 10 are all happily communicating with the same sharing permissions as I've set up on this one. When I try to access files/folders on this new laptop (Asus N752VX) I'm told I don't have permission.

Password protected sharing is turned off.

I am running two XP Pro computers (both currently have SP3.) I have folders shared on both computers. Only one computer am I able to authenticate the login and view the directory listing. I've confirmed that both computers are on the same network by running the Network Connection Wizard. I've set the problem computer to authenticate as both 'Guest Only' (simple file sharing on) and 'Classic' (simple file sharing off) and had no success with either. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling both 'Client for Microsoft Networks' and 'File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks' with no success. I've confirmed that restrictanonymous is set to 0 in the registry. The policy 'Access this computer from the network' is set to Everyone. The policy 'Deny access to this computer from the network' is set to SUPPORT_xxxxxxx. The local user account is an admin account and has a password set for it. The folders for this account are NOT marked private. I'm NOT trying to share an unsharable folder such as Program Files or Documents and Settings. Are you trying to share folders and files amongst your computers in your home? And, perhaps, with certain specific others "across The Net"? I'm familiar with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.
I do know certain folders that are named in the left side menu of Explorer.exe cannot be accessed, seen or shared.
From experience, I do not "tree-climb" through Libraries or even My Documents. I only "tree-climb," view, share folders that are listed underneath Explorer's Computer break out.

Hello all.

I have recently purchased a new netbook running a Windows 7 Starter 32bit operating system. As it's a netbook, you probably know it doesn't have a disk drive. So this is where the problem starts... I'm not the best with computers so excuse me if i don't understand some things, such as the registry editor, but i should be okay with most things.

So you know, i am trying to share my disk drive (DVD RW drive) from my desktop computer to my netbook over the local network. I have set up printer sharing and sharing other media files between my new netbook and my desktop computer fine without any problems. I just seem unable to share the disk drive. When i try to access it from my netbook, i am greeted with an error message saying i do not have permission and to contact my network administrator. I have tried disabling the firewall on both machines but this doesn't make a difference. The permissions on my desktop computer are set to 'full controll' for 'everybody'. I have tried several things i have read online but nothing has worked. I read somewhere that i need to use the 'Security Policy Editor' to enable permission, but if you didn't already know, Vista Home Premium doesn't have the editor. I have read some things about the registry, but i'd prefer not to mess with that unless ... Read more

Right click on the printer and properties,Under sharing tab, choose share as,give it a name that you will remember
Then on notebook
start/run
type in \\ip address of desktop or computername of desktop.
A window should open which shows the newly shared printer name.Double click it and you will be prompted to create a connection to that printer.
If you have a third party firewall runing on the desktop, you will need to allow access to the desktop from the laptop by authorizing the notebooks ip address to allow access to desktop resources.

I have succesfully set up a home pc network and set up some shared folders on all the pcs except one. I cannot however get the folders on the last pc to be accessible to the others. The relavant folders have the shared (hand) symbol showing, and the firewall is configured to allow the other computers access, but they can never establish the folders as a network space. Answer:unable to share pc folder on network

If the "shared" folders are actually sub-folders, make sure their parent folders aren't set as "Private" as this attribute will be inherited and prevent network access.

I upgraded to Windows 10 on a server computer (the one which has two printers connected to) and none of the other three computers on the network (all three running Windows XP) can connect to it. Downgrade back to Windows 8.1 and boom the computers can connect to the printers like a charm. Everytime I try to connect to the printers from the other computers it asks for a username and password and no matter what combination I enter it refuses to connect. I even disabled password protected sharing and set up a new network, deleted and added the printers and what not. Just refuses to connect. Wondering if its the incompatibility with Windows XP that is refusing to make it work.

Hi all,

My first main laptop was a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit. I had no need to share so I remember "locking it down" as much as could as far as Windows 7 configuration is concerned.

Now I just recenlty purchased a second laptop and would like to share folders between the two. The second laptop is running Home Premium.

I am able to successfully setup shared folders on the second computer and can successfully access them from my main laptop. All is good.

However, though I can successfully setup shares on my main laptop, I cannot access them from my second computer. I get an "unable to access" type of error. I have also clicked on the "Diagnose" link and the analysis it says is that "File sharing is enabled on the computer, but it is not allowing connections on port 445."

I did the Windows Firewall check and the file and folder sharing features ARE enabled on my main computer, so I don't know what to do next. I'm also running Webroot AntiVirus 6 on the main laptop, if that should matter.

If you have any ideas as to what could be wrong or what else I can check, please let me know.

Thx!

Answer:Unable to share folders in BOTH directions between two PCs

The Webroot Antivirus 6 is most likely causing this problem to occur. You might try to configure it to work better with sharing or uninstall it completely and check to see that sharing works. I'm not familor with your antivirus so I can't give you info on how to configure it.

After discovered that my C:\Users folder was shared by default, I right clicked the folder and unchecked "Share this folder" in Advanced Sharing under Share tab. I also went into Control Panel - Folder Options - View and unchecked "Use Sharing Wizard". However, as soon as the computer restarts, the C:\Users folder is back to being shared again. "Use Sharing Wizard' under Folder Options remains unchecked after reboots. I am using Windows 8 Pro. Any idea the reason the setting is not saved?

Answer:unable to un-share C:\Users folder

Besides unchecking the advanced sharing for the User folder you will also need to go into the Security tab and remove Everyone from the share with list.

You will want to go to local disk C, right click the User folder, choose "share with" then choose Advanced Sharing, Security tab, highlight Everyone, click edit, click the Remove tab with Everyone highlighted, the Everyone entry will be removed, you will need to hit "Continue" a bunch of times as the new security settings are applied to all User folders.

Your problem should now be fixed.

I looked through all 266 threads in networking to first try to find a solution, but no joy yet. Here is my situation:

3 computers: Windows 2000 Advanced Server, and 2 XP Professional

1 Canon S750 printer shared on the W2K box.

Networked using Linksys 4-port router and Wireless Access Point. The W2K box and one of the XP are connected by Ethernet, the XP by wireless. Cable modem comes into the router. Router assigns 192.168.1.100-102 to the 3 computers.

NO PROBLEM accessing the internet from all 3 computers.

Based on other posts, I have ensured:

Client for MS Networks installed.
File and print sharing installed.
TCP/IP installed.
Workgroup name the same.
Same user account and password on all machines.
W2K box IsDomainMaster = TRUE
Server service started.

I am able to ping the other 2 computers by name and internal IP address. LMHOSTS file identical on all machines. Also, I get a correct response running nbstat -c.

But I am still unable to add the printer as a network printer to the 2 XP boxes and I can't map any network drives (using net use or from desktop).

File/Folder permissions have been verified.

When I try to add the printer, it says it cannot connect to the server.

I've also tried checking and unchecking XP's "Enable simple file sharing". Doesn't matter.

Before getting the third computer and router, I just had a W2K box and XP box connected through hub. File and print sharing was no problem.

I'm stuck now. Any suggestion... Read more

Answer:How to share one connection on 3 pcs ?

Well, as long as you're patient it'll probably do.

Is that wireless connection to a wireless router? If so, you simply bridge the wireless and wired connections in the one machine and connect the wired port to that switch. The other machines connected to the switch will have access to the router as long as that wireless machine is running.

hi all, I'm a newbie, but have spent some time searching thru prievous posts and upon other forums without finding an answer, so I apologise in advance if this is simpleton stuff.

I've moved into a mates house, who has moved to australia but left me his PC.

His setup is as follows: a 1ghz athlon running winxp home edition and is connected via a vigor2200usb router to a usb external alcatel speedtouch 330 modem, housed in a separate room to his PC. He used to run his PC and multiple xbox's from the router with no problems via his ISP PIPEX adsl account which.. I'm supposed to take over.

I've brought into the mix my own PC : P4 1.5 ghz running WINME which used to connect fine and run smoothly via a dialup 56k modem and ISP freeserve. I notified them I was moving but upon getting here was unable to access the internet from that PC, even if I removed the broadband connections (microfilters) from the house. (v90 modem now removed along with dial up settings)

I began to get "poproxy.exe has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL" messages on bootup which i've traced to my about to expire copy of Norton AV, which is now removed.

In addtition I started to get weird error messages on startup to do with "program X causing an error in KERNEL32.DLL" which I gather can be for "reason X". (I'm looking into one being a possible virus) I've elimnated those errors now,via msconfig running only a bare minimum of starting task... Read more

When i had windows XP installed, i never had trouble tranfering from one network share to another... I would at least get roughtly 25MBs.. but with Vista (32 & 64) and Windows 7, transfering between network shares is super slow.. could takes days sometimes...

is this happening to other people??

Answer:vista: Network Share to Local = ~50MB/s | Share to Share = 1MB/s.. Huh?

I believe, this is also caused when I have to transfer files from my ipod. that it has to cache on my computer, and then transfer to the network share / computer, this is my theory, I never tested it ofc, maybe someone with more knowledge could help.

it's like unpacking a rar into a network share.

Hi Everyone
I have a laptop with Windows 7 installed, using USB 3G device connect though the Internet. The problem is I have 3 machines and a spare router that I want to share the Internet.

Can you please advise how to share the internet from a laptop through a router ?

Answer:Unable to share the internet from a laptop through a router

I would buy a cheap 3G router from ebay and configure that.

eBay: 3G router

I have configured one before and it works fine providing you have a good signal.

Dear Experts,

HI to all......

I've a P4 machine having enough memory and disk space at local system as well as on the remote shared host. When I'm going to save a doc file (Office 2003), its giving the below attached error message. Pls suggest.... Any help will be appreciated.

Answer:Unable to save DOC file in network share

Do you have the right permissions on that drive? I assume that it is another computer that your trying to save it on. Have you tried like it suggested another drive to narrow down the problem?

Hi, I have had this Network setup at my home for a while. There is one desktop, which has Windows XP Professional (we'll call this XPA, antivirus is MSE), connected to the router through an ethernet port, and three laptops, one with XP Media Center (we'll call this XPB, antivirus is McAfee configured to share files and printers) and two with 7 Professional and Home Premium (one is my own laptop, 7-A, antivirus is MSE, and other is 7-B, antivirus is McAfee configured to share files and printers). A few months ago, every computer was able to see each other easily through their names, and were able to share files and printers easily, even with the two 7 laptops having password protection. All of them were in the same Workgroup (called WORKGROUP), and the two 7 laptops were in the same Homegroup, sharing files through passwords).

Now, I came back home from college, and oddly find that my laptop (which is 7-A Professional with MSE) can't connect either XP computers when I type their name (coming up with the error code 0x80070035: The network path was not found), I can only connect when I type in their IP address. It's the same when I try to connect from the XP computers to my laptop. I can easily connect to 7-B though, and 7-B can easily connect to my laptop, XPA and XPB (and vice versa). I have no idea why this is happening now, since I haven't really fiddled around with the settings in college (other than installing some program that will let me connect to the university netwo... I had a lot of problems with my Vista and someone here recommended that I create a new user ID. That works mostly, but I cannot seem to be able to access some programs.

I also cannot access my Favorites in IE 7.0 with the new id even though I can get the emails.

Any suggestions?

Thanks so much for being here!!

I have 2 machines connected via my router/hub (wired). One is running Windows 8.1 and the other Windows 7. Previously I had them sharing perfectly until I did a reinstall of Windows 8 (upgraded to Windows 8.1). I get this message on both machines whilst trying to access shared drives (permissions enabled to read, write, modify for all users):

I have a local account on the windows 8.1 as per previous installation. I have checked all the usual sharing settings and they are the same as in the previous working installation on both machines. I have left the homegroup and created a new one on the windows 8 machine and rejoined on the windows 7 machine all to no avail. I have read posts here but none seem to help. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Unable to share drives across home network

OK - I now manage to access a shared drive on my Windows 7 PC from Windows 8.1 - read write etc. all good ( found that encryption setting on Windows 8.1 was wrong .
However cannot do the same for the Windows 8.1 machine from the Windows 7. Can't see what I am doing wrong?

Hi,I originally had a WinXP computer which had some mapped drives, one of these being to a shared folder on my work laptop. The mapped drives were used so I could run a Robocopy script to backup my laptop to my WinXP computer.Prior to wiping out WinXP and installing Vista 32 Home Premium, I took a screenshot of my mapped drives. Now I can seem to get Vista to map the shared drive on my laptop. It keeps prompting me for a username and password even though I used the same username and password that I use when I log into my WinXP Pro laptop. When I first go to map the drive, I select the option to "Connect using a different username"In Vista, if I go to Windows Explorer and expand the Network, I can see my laptop (called "Maxs_Laptop")I have set up the same IP address on my Vista machine as there was when it had WinXP Home running on it and the Workgroup has also been set to the same.Furthermore, I've turned off Windows Firewall as I use Zonealarm and I've set a range of IP addresses as being trusted. What am I doing wrong, or what is changed in Vista that I have to adjust?BTW, I can connect to mapped drives on my loungeroom PC which is running WinXP Home, but I think the reason I can is that the loungeroom PC doesn't prompt for a login/password on bootup, whereas my work laptop (WinXP Pro) does. Thanks

Answer:Unable to map XP Share in Vista - Authenication Fails

I'm sorry if you covered this, but I'm having trouble understanding: Are you trying to map a drive on a Vista machine to an XP machine or vice versa?

If you are mapping Vista to XP, you may need to check your Control Panel->Network and Sharing Center. Find your connection (it may already be displayed) and make sure the "File Sharing" flag is on.

Answer:Unable to share the Internet from a laptop through a router

Hello! Sadly, for all intents and purposes, it just doesn't work like that. I'm not saying it's impossible, because I have read how techies have made this happen - but it requires an insane amount of configuration, 3rd party software, a little programming, and a good grasp of linux. The router has to have the internet connection to share out to other computers. Go and get a wifi hotspot instead of a 3G USB device. The wifi hotspot, depending on the provider, should support up to 5+ connections. Another option is the see what ISPs are in your area, get service at your residence, then you could use the router. Hope this helps!

Hi

This problem started with myself about a month ago and is plaguing me with problems, here are my machine specs.

Dell Poweredge 2550 server running Windows Server 2003 32 bit

Home built PC running Windows 7 64 bit

If you need any hardware specs I can provide them.

Up until about a month ago I was using both of these machines and they were quite happily sharing folders over a private network, I did some Windows 7 security updates and since then I can no longer access the shared folders on either machines except for the public folders on the Windows 7 machine from the Windows Server machine.

I have searched the internet for solutions and mostly I get the impression that Microsoft does not allow cross platform network shares from Windows 7 machines to older versions of it's OS anymore. I also found various workarounds including the one listed above but no matter what I do I cannot get the 2 machines to share any folders other than the public ones on the Windows 7 Machine.

What I have is a 10 TB raid array on the Windows server machine that I need to access over the network as if it is a shared drive, but every time I try to access the server I get asked for a user name and password from within the Windows 7 environment, The server PC username is \\SERVER\Administrator and then the password but this does not work, I get no error messages just the login screen constantly.

If I try and do a network search from the Server 2003 machine I get the error message saying \\Dagge... Read more

Answer:Suddenly unable to connect to network share

Welcome to Seven Forums,

Instead of accessing the shared computer/folder from your network using this method: \\Daggers-PC\, try using the IP Address of Daggers computer i.e. \\192.168.1.6-PC\. If it works using the IP Address and not the Computer Name, you may conveniently create a shortcut or a mapped network drive on your computer's desktop to easily access the shared files.

Please let us know the outcome.

I have two windows 7 computers. computer-A is connecting EPSON printer and I have enabled the file and printer sharing function. The file sharing function is working fine. Then I tried to add the printer in control panel on computer-B, it sees the epson printer but when I try to install the driver (download from computer-A) then it say unable to connect. I have try it on different computer-C it is saying the same thing. What should I do?

I have installed the EPSON driver in computer-B (hoping it would work)but still after the install the driver (download from computer-A) by itself then it says unable to connect the printer.

I have setup all the computers with the group name of WORKFROUP. You may wonder why I don't use the win7 Homegroup, it is because I have some XP computers need to use that computer-A's printer.

Please help me on how to make the printer sharing works.

I have 2 computers I am networking together. Both are on a wireless network and using XP Pro with SP1. I can see box 1's C drive in box 2, but when I click on it, it says I don't have rights for it. I am trying to set it up so I can read/write box 1 from box 2, but would like to have it protected by a password in order to write it. Again, my problem now is that I can't open the C drive even though I can see it and open the shared files. I did shut off the "simple file sharing" on box 1 so I could share the C.

Can someone please help me to get this going? Thanks.

Answer:Unable to Share C Drive in Home Network

You want identicle accounts on each computer, so they can authenticate comparing local user accounts.

Meaning, if you log onto computer 1 as username "Ira" with a password of "banana"...then add that same user/password to the local users of Computer 2. And visa versa.

Now, I'll insert the appropriate warning of "On Windows NT systems, never ever share out the entire %system% partition, or the Windows directory, or Program Files. Tis better to create a folder like "Stuff" or whatever, and share that out. Or share out the My Documents directory, or a second hard drive.

And it'd be a good idea to follow "safe and responsible computing" by running windows updates, getting SP2 and others on there.

I have a USB attached inkjet printer that was always shared with a Vista PC on my network. Suddenly the Vista machine cannot see the printer on the Win7 system and on Win7 I am unable to set the printer to shared status.

When I try to set the printer properties to Shared I get this message: Printer settings could not be saved. Operation could not be complete (error 0x00006d9).

Here is what I've tried so far, all to no avail:

1. Turned on Security Essential Real Time Protection (I read somewhere that this has to be on for printer sharing to work, but I don't know if this is true.)

2. Tried to start Windows Firewall service (I read that this has to be started for printer sharing to work) but my system has no Windows Firewall service to start.

3. Renamed the printer and tried to share it using it's new name (same failure)

4. Removed the Win7 system from the Homegroup (same failure)

The printer works fine on the Win7 system. My user ID has Admin privileges. Rebooting Win7 has no effect.

What else can I try to get the printer shared?

Answer:Wint-64 SP1 Unable to share a local printer

Do you have the printer drivers installed on both systems?

Do you have printers drivers that are made to work on both systems?

It's important to point out that Homegroups is made for Windows 7 and Windows 8 systems only so you should have a common name "Workgroup" set up on both machines.

I have two computers connected to a cable modem through a Linksys Cable/DSL Router with 4-Port Switch. I can surf the internet just fine from both computers, but I can't do any file sharing between them. They are both Windows XP Professional SP2 with different computer names and the same workgroup name. When I go under My Nework Places and click on View Workgroup Computers, a dialog box pops up saying, "<Workgroup Name> is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available." It's just a simple home network that I'm trying to build and I have my user accounts on both computers are administrators. How can I be able to share files?

Answer:Unable to share files through Linksys Router

You can try going into the computer by using teh ip address. Whatever you setup your individual computers IP addresses through your router. Instead of using \\compname use //local IP

If this doesn't work post back.

So before I had to reformat my PC, I had been able to allow my gf's laptop to access my documents / folders etc which is on my main desktop PC. It took me a bit of time because homegroups simply didn't work and I had to figure out getting the network sharing setup.

Now, even with youtube guides, I can't get her laptop to see the folders / HDD's on main main PC. Every guide I watched or looked at that I followed had a postive outcome but for me, either an option didnt become available or the network wasn't found like it did in the video etc and I'm getting pretty choked.

All I need is for her to access my external HDD which is connected to my main desktop PC. My desk is huge, ridiculously awkward and to get behind it to unplug the external would be a huge pain in the ***. Let alone putting it back would be even moreso troublesome.

My desktop PC is connected to our wifi gateway hardline. Her laptop is connected to our gateway via wifi.

Both of us are running Windows 7. I've had them sharing folders and locations before. I just have come to my limit when every tutorial I've read and video I've watched works out perfectly and I can't get them to see each other.

Any feedback, instructions, thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

- C

I have several folders shared across my network, movie, tv, downloads etc.
Since the update, I can share the folder, but my windows 10 tablet says I do not have permission to access the folder.
On my desktop the folder opens just fine, and is shared
All the other folders work just fine and my tablet can access them fully?
Any ideas? Its only new folders I try to share that my tablet can not access anymore.
It worked just fine before the update.

A strange problem appeared suddenly on my home network.
the network is comprised by a workstation class Pc, with Windows 2003 Server R2, plus 2 Windows 7, 3 Windows XP (1 of thema a laptop) and 1 Ubuntu Linux PCs.

I have 2 network shares on the server which are mapped on the same Disks for all PCs.

This has worked without a problem for 2 and a half years or so.

BUT since last night whenever i try to access those network shares on any of the 2 Windows & PCs i cannot and i get a repsonce about the password being wrong.

it obviously isnt, i can connect with no problems from any of the 3 Windows XP PCs or the Linux machine. I can allso login normally, or connect via Remote desktop. The password is ok.. something else is the problem , but what?

does any of you have any pointers?

Have you checked your Windows Firewall settings? It's possible that an update may have blocked it accidentally.

Hi, I hope somebody can help with this. I have turned off homegroup after realizing it was an all or nothing prospect. I prefer to set who can access certain files and who doesn't because the whole family and the sometimes guests can have access to some pc's in the house.

The problem is when I turned homegroup off to both pc's using windows 7 I can no longer share folders. I can see them from the other pc but can't open the shared folders.

I get the message "you do not have permission to access ...."

A few points:
All pc's are in the same workgroup
All pc's have the same users and passwords
Enabled the appropriate users in advanced sharing under permissions in the sharing tab

Even tried to allow those same users under security tab-edit-add

Funny thing is it was sharing after I turned homegroup off for a few days then it stopped sharing and I didn't change anything except to disallow some users access to an external drive.

I suspect it may be a problem with inherited permissions but I know very little about these areas.
