Preferred Solution: I deleted all users accounts and I'm locked out of my computer, HELP!!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: I deleted all users accounts and I'm locked out of my computer, HELP!!!

If you try booting your computer in safe Mode I think there will be a way you can log on as administrator, then you can recreate users from there and give them what ever privileges you want.

i changed settings on my windows 7 and every user profile say restricted acess contact administrator

Answer:locked out of all users accounts

Boot to safe mode maybe and see if you can access the administrator account. See what the status is of the user accounts.Might have to boot to a dvd and do a repair or restore point to a time before this change. Hang up and live.

Dell Dimension 4400 Desktop, Windows XP Pro SP3

My computer was infected. All user accounts were deleted as well as the Administrator account.
I saw a post where Shift+F10 did allow me into the command prompt when trying to do a Repair Windows XP.
I got in but found there was no account so I could not change. When I try to create a new account, the box where I could enter the account name does not accept any entry from keyboard. I know the key board works because I was able to enter command "NUSRMGR.CPL" and gaining access to "User Accounts" in control panel.

Is there a way to gain back control of my desktop without having to re-install XP Pro?

Thanks.

I want to be able to share Administrator documents and files with user acoounts on the same computer.... without having access to the internet.

I only have one computer. But I have 7 different user accounts on that one computer. I want each of my users to have access to the Administrators documents (files and folders etc)

I went to Administrator Documents, then I Right clicked on a folder, then I clicked on Share With>specific people> I click on the user account and then I get a box saying my folder was succcessfully shared, and now I need to email a link to the specific user account.

I do all this and then switch user. I go to the users email and try to click on the link and it wont click. I try to copy and paste into the users documents, but it will not copy and paste.

I go to the user's Documents and try to see if there is a link there....but nothing is there.

What am I doing wrong?
thanks
Granny

Answer:one computer, 7 users accounts need to share admin documents

I looked thru HELP, but I have only a single computer. I am not trying to interact with other computers, so I cant belong to a domain, workgroup or homegroup, because all these seem to involve multiple computers.

Folks,
I had issues today with desktop icon refusing to move and very slow performance. While I have Zonealarm Pro as my spyware and firewall s/w and AVG as my virus software, I assumed that something had come through.

1 I down loaded Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. It found the following:

Files Infected:
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\atmgr.exe (Trojan.Agent) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

2 I turned off and on the laptop, taking out the battery to make sure all was reset.

3 I reran the Virus, Spyware and Malware scans which all came back clean.

4 I restareted.

5 The problems persisted.
-The icons on the desktop are still locked (Auto arrange and arrange to grid are NOT turned on.)
-My mouse scroll wheel doesn't have any effect.
-After a restart, when I try to open IE, it takes itself into offline mode and trys to start a dial-up connection???

6 I downloaded HijackThis.exe and ran the scan.

7 I posted this. HijackThis scan details below.

Any advice would be appreciated. I'm non-techie, but reasonably competant, and follow instructions well!

Have now used Windows Malware checker and Spyware S&D too. Neither reported any problems. Burt I'm still having problems.
- Really slow startup.
- While the processes show nothing strange is happening, the machine has slowed to an almost halt.
- I'm now having difficulty logging in at all. Even in safe mode, when I getto the login hascreen, the password box won't open to allow me to log in. If I open in sradnard mode, I getone chance to login. i.e. it opens the passowrd box once and if I click smeplace else on the screen and the password box closes, then ihave to restart to get another chance.

Please help!

Hello,

Please note that I have a domain user with a laptop, then someone else from the same domain logged on and it created a profile. I tried to delete it to free up disk space. I logged off all users and disconnected the laptop from the network. Then I logged on
with a local admin account, went to start, right click on computer -> properties, advanced system settings, settings for user profile and selected the profile and clicked the delete button.

This window told me that user was using ~60GB however after I clicked delete, I noticed my C drive space did not change. Please help. I also checked in control panels, user accounts and that profile name is no longer there. I also checked the HKEY_Users and
HKEY_Local_machine->software->microsoft->windows NT->current version->profile list and that user is not there.

I am very low on disk space ~10GB left and wanted to delete that profile to free up space as that person has their own computer.

Hello,

My friend gave me his computer to fix and I am stumped on this one. Windows will boot up just fine but all user accounts including the hidden admin account say that they are disabled to contact the system administrator. I popped a Linux live CD in and changed CMD.exe. to utilman.exe so that I could get command prompt up on windows login screen. I use the net user Owner * and change the password and it says that it completed successfully, I also perform net user Owner active:yes and it says it completed successfully but it still shows active:no in the details when you type net user. It does this for all users Administrator, Owner, and Guest I have even tried safe mode and am unable to login still. I also ran clamav on the Linux live CD on the windows partition and it found no viruses, Any ideals of what could have caused this or how to fix it?

Answer:Locked out of all accounts

Post the exact error message...that appears onscreen after Windows has loaded and you try using it, please.

Hi, the company I work for is running a 2000 server, all the client workstations have Windows XP. For some odd reason the server keeps locking out our user accounts. I put a log on the accounts, and i dont find anything strange. Can you please help?

Answer:Accounts being locked out

"Put a log on the accounts"Do you mean you enabled auditing? are you auditing logon failures and successes both? You should. There should be an event in the security log saying the account was locked out and why.Make sure no user accounts are being used for any service. Review your services properties.

Server 2003 network, W7/XP stations, about 100 users at 3 locations.

This morning almost all users' accounts were locked out. The security log was filled with failure audits (Event ID 675) referring to pre-authentication fails, beginning around 4am. Most users had a dozen or more entries of this sort. As I unlocked each account, some re-locked. Users who logged on after being unlocked tended to retain access to the network, though sometimes I found their accounts listed as locked out again, even as they were using Outlook or accessing the internet. It was kind of like a game of whack-a-mole, unlocking users over the course of the morning.

It's stopped now, but I don't know why it began or why it ended. I don't know if it was an attack or something else. Does this look familiar to anyone?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi, First time here but big fan.

I have a computer someone brought to me that looked to have some spyware on it and after removing some of the onstartup reg entries it rebooted with some kind of account restrictions.

OS: Windows XP Professional

It keeps saying there is a password but there wasn't any set up before I tried removing the spyware.
I have tried all safe modes and they all still ask for the unknown passwords.
I tried running the nt password changer to set known passwords but that didnt work. It still says the password is wrong.
I used a Winternals ERD Commander cd to perform a system file check and it found that the atapi.sys was corrupted so it fixed it. (more like infected)

I cannot get to any kind of prompt to run any more scans/removal tools.

I have come across about a dozen of this type of infection and unfortunatly the most common way we had to fix it was a backup and then a clean install of the OS. Has anyone actually seen this and found how to correct it?

HELP!  I got in over my head.  My place of business installed new computers.  I have a username and password to log on to any of them.  However, there is one I use most and I needed to install a program.  I had an administrative user and password to install the program.  However when I installed it, it would not show up under my profile's desktop...only under the administrator desktop.  I tried to find a way to make it so the program was usable when I was signed in.  So I searched some help forums and found one that said to log in with admin privaleges.  Then login to gpedit.msc.  Then make some user changes and specify the program you want to be available to all users.
After I did this I'm now BLOCKED from using any program I try.  Can't use Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Chrome...nothing.  I can't even log back in using the admin password to change back what I did.
Can someone help!  This is a work computer I did this on and I want to figure it out so I don't get in trouble.  All I wanted was to be able to run a work related program!

Thanks!

Hello everyone.
Lately, I've been unable to access either of my administrator accounts, or even open the full potential of the accounts screen as I am hindered by Limited Account restrictions. My primary account was, for example, "User Name" without a password. Now, the only account I have been able to access is "User Name_2". It is a mystery to me as to where this account came from all of a sudden, and why I am unable to access the original account, but have a totally new desktop layout and everything. When I try logging in as the Windows Hidden Administrator without a password (as it is by default if I am correct), it says "unable to log you on due to an account restriction", but if I type anything in the password field, it returns an error saying that I have entered incorrect login information. Any information anyone can provide as to how I might can access my administrator accounts from my boundaries as they are right now would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Locked Out of Admin Accounts

Start>Run>cmd.exe

type at (if it gives you a list of jobs or says no jobs in que then your good to go)

type at <time in 24 hour format seperated by ":") 1 minute after current time /interactive cmd.exe

"at 16:34 /interactive cmd.exe"

This is system level access.

Edit: should have explained.

It runs cmd.exe from task scheduler which is above admin level. Effectivly giving you maximum permissions. Sometimes this works from guest.

Hi,

I did a system restore today following a windows update that didn't quite take. I am now unable to log in to any user accounts on my PC. Both the renamed administrator account, and my user account are saying they are locked out (despite the fact that I have never set a lock-out policy on this PC)

I've used this

http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

and it unlocks the user accounts and sets the passwords to blank. But when I then restart windows after running check disk I get the same results as before, accounts locked out.

Does anybody know where I can go from here other than a re-install/re-image? Is there a way to reset the local SAM to a new installation version?

EDIT: Running windows xp pro sp2

Thanks for the help

Hey folks,

Been installing SP2 for the past week or two on some of my client computers. I've noticed though on my laptop clients, their accounts are locked out temporarily after I installed SP2 on their machines. Sometimes its only a matter of time and sometimes I have to unlock their account through active directory. This has only been for laptop users. All of our laptop users are local administrators. Anyone heard of this??

Hi everyone,

This seems crazy! I noticed that, whilst using one of my regular forums, I couldn't access a password-protected area and asked for help from the moderators. No one could work out why as I was using the correct login information every time.

Now it seems to have affected everything. I am locked out of my MSN account and my yahoo account, which normally acts as the reserve email account if my other account fails to work for some reason. Yet, whilst the MSN account just keep reloading before telling me there is something wrong with the login, my yahoo account seems not to recognise my information at all....and the forum account also claims that I've typed the wrong password even when I know for a fact that others are logging in with no problems.

Furthermore, each one of those accounts I just mentioned uses a completely different password. However, I can still automatically login here and in various other locations.

There seem to be a few postings about this issue on the internet but none of it is very helpful. It seems to point towards a very negative outcome of having totally lost the account. I can't afford to lose these accounts as they are a major point of contact for me.

Could somebody please suggest some kind of a solution? Thanks for anything you can offer.

About a year ago, my ebay account was hacked and from their they took over my msn /hotmail account because they were linked and shared the same email account. I can't get you back to your MSN account but if you contact them and verify important that only you know they can assist you in unlocking your account. They will need information about the last IP addresses you used to log into your account as well as personal information you have used over the time you had the account. They will contact you by phone since the account may not yet be secured. So it is possible to get the information back it's just going to take a effort on your end. As far as yahoo I'm not sure how they work..

I need some help with ensuring my computer security is not compromised, because recently i've been getting emails that my facebook account and guild of wars 2 account have been accessed. Web pages are also being sketchy as they often load broken or they don't load at all.

I've done a boot-time scan with AVAST, and it removed some items about java exploits or something, but my computer is still acting up so I want to make sure.

I also don't have the boot disk for vista, thank you guys again!

Where I work we are running NT4 SP6 (yeah, I know... you don't need to tell me, we're planning to move to Server 2k3 in the next few months) and we have accounts set up for all our users and such. The last few days we've been experiencing a problem where all of our user accounts will become locked out (in some cases it's not all, but 80% anyway). When I look in the event log I get a ton of messages in the security section, they all contain the same information:

EVENT DETAIL
Date: 3/30/05

User Account Locked Out

Caller Machine Name: \\<we get different machine names here>

The only way I can fix this is to go through and manually unlock each account. Today it has happened at least twice already, so my question is... what is going on? I've done a bunch of research on this problem but I can't seem to find any resolutions to it. Nothing has changed recently, this server is limited to access to our network (no external traffic to/from it, blocked at the switch), nothing has changed on it recently, so I'm baffled. Just before Xmas my XP Pro desktop PC was working fine. Booting up today I find that the three accounts (2 admin and one non-admin) passwords "appear" to have changed and will not let me beyond the XP log on screen. Booting into safe mode to reveal the "hidden" administrator account (which I am led to believe has no password by default) requires a password too.Any ideas what is going on here and what I can do about it? The machine has got sygate and AVG installed which showed no issues last time I was using the system.

Answer:locked out of XP - password changed all accounts

perhaps someone is winding you up! i think XP reminds you to change your password every ?* weeks so maybe someone did.to clear passwords you can remove the CMOS battery for 30 secs or so. Alternatively if you have the motherboard manual, there is probably a jumper to reset the CMOS. (most motherboard manuals are available online) good luck!

I ran some scans and got rid of the infection but when I restarted the computer was when I found that I was unable to get back in as described above

I tried safe mode, got the same thing restore disc no help either any advice would greatly help other than tossing it out of my fifteenth floor window I'm out of options ?

To do this switching, the Help advise is to Click Start, Click Log Off and Click Switch User. The problem is that when I click Start and Log Off there is no option for switching users (that green square with 2 arrows inside does not appear at all). The only option computer displays is to log off. Then I?ve tried different approach - from User Accounts panel clicked on ?Change the way users log on/off in? order to switch to Welcome screen from which I can select with which account to login. No luck - here popped up this message :?Client services for network has disabled the Welcome screen and Fast User Switching. To restore these features you must UNinstall Client Services for NetWare?.Did search for Client Services and NetWare everywhere in the computer.Find ?NETWARE.DR? in folder C:\Windows\1386and?Netware.drv? in folder C:\Windows\system32Both files are displayed in blue (perhaps because are invisible?)No ?Client Services ? found anywhere. At this stage due to my insufficient computer knowledge I don?t know what else to do... HI All

I have a question about installing a program in the administrator account and then using the program in the user account. The user is set as a power user and I am having some trouble getting the program to run properly. It runs fine when I am logged in as an administrator. Been doing some reading but not finding a solution to my problem. Would giving the user account admin rights, installing the program and changing the user back to power user make any difference?

Thanks, Reddoug

Answer:A question about users accounts.

when you install the program ,were you giving an option for it to be used by all users or just admin /you

did you google the problem ,some google results look promising .i only look at the second one .

Hi
I have two accounts on my laptop: Bryan as admin and James as my local account which I use for my daily workings.
All my work is save to a different partition on the hard drive.

I now notice that if I go to C:\users, I have my admin account but there are two other user accounts James and James.lenovo15.

Originally I found James and James-2 user accounts so I moved the James-2 folders and files to my work partition (just so I didn't lose the info before deleting it). When I signed in again, I could only sign in as a "guest" using the James-2 password.

I have now spent a coupe of days deleting the user account under the User Accounts setting. Then deleting the James account in the only place it appears (C:\Users); and creating a new Local User account in the user accounts (using Bryan admin). However, I find that in C drive I still have two James users - James and James.lenovo15.

I think that when I just deleted the James account in C:\Users it must have left some residual elements somewhere and it recreated itself and the new local account which I names simply James was forced to add to the name .Lenovo15 to prevent conflicts.

Although I doesn't affect the running of the computer, having both users takes up considerable space. James user 4.7 gbs while the new James.lenovo15 has 1.7 gb.

Has anyone any idea how to resolve the matter?

I've scoured the 'Net to find an answer to my question, but my situation may be a bit unique. Hopefully you can help me out.

Here's what happened... My computer would not boot to Windows Vista. (I have an HP Pavilion a1630n that originally came installed with XP and came with a Vista upgrade disk. I did upgrade to Vista).

I made the bone-headed mistake of accidentally putting the XP restore disk into the drive instead of the Vista Disk. Once the restore was complete the system booted to XP, but I got an error message stating that "Windows cannot load the user's profile but has logged you on with the default profile for the system." Once the computer completely booted upI could see all my files. However, I cannot access anything directly. The "Documents and Settings" folder is locked out. I get "access denied".

When I try adding a new Administrator under User Accounts, it gets loaded, but then when I restart and select the new user I get the same "Windows cannot load the user's profile" error.

When I look through the file structure I see that it has maintained some of the Vista structuring. For example, my original Administor User Account and the other account I used for my personal files (Let's call it "Home") which also has administrator rights are both loaded under the "Users" folder like Vista uses.

Additionally, if I try to open any program I had loaded (like MS Excel) I get ... Read more

Hey all,

every once in a while I run across this problem...
The user is prompted to use there username and password whenever they use Internet explorer or Outlook. We use NetIQs DRA software to manage our domain and when I look at the users account, they are being locked out. Any input on this would be great. Right now the only fix I have is to delete and re-create the account.

Ok I was working on a Win XP Pro machine and all of a sudden the computer restarts. Bad stick of RAM caused this I think but never the less when it starts back up there are no user accounts listed on the "friendly login" page. So I do Ctrl+Alt+Del twice to bring up the manual login screen, I CANNOT login... with any accounts including the default Guest account or Administrator, or the accounts I've created on the machine, they are gone... I've gone into safe mode as well to try and login that way both with friendly login and manual login.

I put the drive with the XP install in question into another machine as secondary to back up the files but still NEED to login on the machine. Is there a way to re-create accounts at all? Am I totaly SOL on this one?!?! Thanks in advance!

Answer:XP Deleted My Accounts?

You seem pretty smart but why are you backing up files unless you plan to
do a clean install. You can insert the Windows XP disk and do a repair install and
that will leave all your programs and settings intact. You will need your Product Key, to activate windows again, and to load all the service packs, and security
bulletins again.

If you have no joy with getting the reinstalltion going I will let you know the other way but I don't like telling everyone how to break into a PC.

Today I tried to add an account to my Windows 10 computer (Version 1607 Build 14393.321). Not something I do very often so I Googled it. When I select Settings - Accounts, I do not see the option for "Family and other users" like the screen image below. This image is not from my machine - it's from a site that shows how to add an account.

What I see is shown in the screen shown below. If I click on the big + box for "Add someone else to this PC:, I do not get a screen that says "Add a child or an adult?" and then "Lets create an account".

When I click on "Other People" and then the PLUS box for "Add someone else to this PC" it takes me to the inset box in the 2nd screenshot below. From there, I can select Users, then from the Action option, New User, then fill in the boxes. I have no idea why what happens on my PC is totally different than the several web sites I found that take you through this process. Any ideas are appreciated.

Hey
I was hoping someone can answer me with this problem I am having.
I have 5 users accounts in one network domain. I have two different location, 2 different pc. The two PC has two different email address that receive different information. I want to have one user go to the first PC at the first location and receive that location's email, I want to have outlook be configured to receive just that location's emails. The next day he will be schedule to go to the second location and when he signs in to windows I want the outlook to be configured already and have it set up to receive the second location's emails.

Is there like a log on script I have to create? or is there like something I can do in Active Directory or any other solution to make this possible or if it is possible?

Answer:question about users accounts in ADUC

just set up user accounts for those two locations. account1 set up with the email address for site1, account2 set up with the email address for site2. then give the account info to the users involved. think that would work out for you?

Hello there. I hope someone here can help me on this annoying problem.

Accidentally, I typed in my Hotmail account details into my dad's user for XP, now everytime he looks at the User Menu, he's got a notice reminding him that MY 28 messages are stil unread.

Also, he has someone just added his btinternet.com email to this list, and now when he trys to access these emails through the web browser, they appear to be missing from his bt.yahoo.com account. He CAN however, find these emails in Outlook.

So, help deletling my Hotmail account association from my dad's XP account, and to somehow get his messages back online...

Pretty please?

Many thanks.

I am preparing an old laptop for a new employee. When I log in as administrator I see 4 users in the control panel. I can log in as a fifth user that isn't listed whose username matches the computer name. When I go to C/Users/ I see folders for the fifth user that I can log in as and a sixth that also isn't listed in the control panel. Also, in C/Users/ I don't see every user that is listed in the control panel.

I need to remove all users except administrator and the new employee as well as clean up the computer of all old, unused files and programs. How can I trim down the users to just the two that are needed, including the ones that aren't listed?

There are other threads on this but none have provided a resolution to my problem. Running the users check indicates the administrator account exists. However, I cannot select any users except my standard windows user on boot-up, nor can I switch users from the start center, as there are no other users to select at the top right of the start center - i.e., the pix and user name do not contain other user names. The power button on settings doesn't either. When checking the task manager, there is only my own windows user name listed, so no other user to switch to. I installed various reg, bat and vbs files available for downloading on this web site without success.

I hope that there is a setting that has changed - but looking at secpol and gpedit nothing jumps out at me.

Nothing seems to correct the problem. Anyone?

Test if this is a local rights issue by temporarily granting your wife's account administrator rights, then testing again. If it works fine on the first test, then remove the rights and see if it happens again.

I am running Windows 7 64bit, 32GB Ram, Dual 10 core processors.

All accounts on the box will randomly get locked out. This lockout is occurring "at least on the surface" with no repeated log-on attempts or no repeated bad password entries. Simply press a keyboard or move the mouse to unlock the system, enter password and it says account is locked out. I attempt to switch users and it says that account is locked out also. Every user and Admin account on the box is locked.

This behavior is randomly happening. I have not been able to duplicate the problem.

Password complexity is enabled and it has a file the password is measured against
Number of bad retries attempted is set at 3
An administrator must unlocked the account once it is locked.

Again, this box is not a part of a Domain, thus no domain controller is controlling the user account.

Is there any way to force a log off of windows when a user disconnects? I was looking for actions upon disconnect, like the ability to run a command, and so on. The users are not supposed to use their computers except for company business, and I want to ensure they are not using the vpn to authenticate with the domain (no cached logins) and then are disconnecting once they are logged in.

Any help on this from any angle would be useful! Thank you.

I'm using an Administrator account and want to create a couple of folders in the Start Menu. Windows Explorer gets down to the Start Menu, but I get a popup saying access denied. So I did a dangerous thing, I Googled, and found a few things to try.

So I refired WE with "run as Administrator", still denied access. I turned UAC completely off, rebooted and tried again, still denied. I turned off Classic Menu, rebooted, still denied. Opened DOS and typed in: net user administrator /active:yes. No User folder, so reversed the command and rebooted.

I'm using Win 7, SP1. This is one of 2 essentially the same computers that a local shop upgraded from XP. The other one doesn't have this issue nor does a laptop.

Any suggestions?

Currently have 50 or so users on a domain. The main DC is a Dell PowerEdge 720 running Server 2008 r2 with a identical machine for the BDC. Recently we've started having issues with user accounts becoming locked out for no apparent reason.

I'm running NetWrix Account Lockout Examiner and can see when the users start accumulating 'strikes' against their accounts. I've physically watched someone lock their workstation and it still accumulates bad password counts until it gets locked out. This has me thinking it's a system thing and not a user thing (as much as I'd like to blame the users).

It only affects about a third of the users and out of those it seems to be really bad for 2 or 3 of them. I've had some instances where a user account is getting locked out every 5 minutes, then it'll work fine for hours.

I've looked to see if they had any scheduled tasks running that might causing issues but no one had anything.

I've checked windows logs but I can't see anything that stands out. I'm assuming it's a old Group Policy or something that no longer exists that their accounts are still looking for.

If anyone has any ideas on what could be causing this I'd appreciate it.

Answer:AD users randomly getting locked out

Look for scheduled tasks that try to run as that user, I have seen itunes put in a bunch of tasks and run every minute with a users old password and she was always complaining about being locked out lol

So I have a good question for ya.
We are deploying Win7 with App Locker, Bit Locker and a ful range of security. Also Domain Users will not be in Local Admins. Thus when users call in to support and we have to walk them through the process, they will not have rights to access most management consoles. They will not have rigts toMy Computer > Properties> Manage. They will get You do Not Have Permissions to do this.
No checking Wireless settings, starting a Defrag, or most troubleshooting tools.

SOo......... Does any body have any ideas or best pratices. I'm for a local account with a secure PWD that resets. A tool that can elevate users for a session. I'm most worried about users calling in that cant get on the internet so we cant remote in.

Help A Brother Out Here

How Sweet It Is

Thanks in Advance

Answer:How to support locked down users

Well, when users aren't admins, they then need to be supported by users who have the necessary rights and permissions to carry out that support. It might make sense to create a domain group that contains the support folks, and use group policy restricted groups to add that group to the local administrators group on the local machines. That way, any remote assistance sessions with a help desk or field technician will allow that technician to use their credentials to do the administrative tasks necessary. If your users don't have internet access, then they can use the troubleshooters in the control panel or from the Action Center to try and fix it - no admin perms necessary. This particular edge scenario should not be a problem in Windows 7.

Hi, I administer an exchange 2000 server, which is tied to a win2k pdc, with several trusts. On a number of occasions I have come in in the AM and noticed that every user in every domain has their account locked out. I read on microsofts knowledge base where windows xp fast user switch can be guilty, but I dont have any xp machines on my network. A few times I have found that every user on SOME of the domains are locked out, leaving other domains largely unaffected, and on one occasion had approximately 30 % of my users locked out in random domains. My question is what can cause my entire user base to be simultaneously locked out?
Is my network being hacked?

Any light on the subject would be welcomed.
Thanks

Today, while restarting from hibernation, my laptop (Dell N7010  running Windows 7 (64-bit)) was showing a blue screen (as in "of death") with several words shown in a large white font. I only saw it briefly then password screen appeared. The words I saw on the blue screen said "Your Computer is(?) Locked". Since I successfully used it (still am), I put the message in the back of my mind.

Several hours later, I put my laptop into hibernation again. When it came out, the password screen said that my computer was locked (attachment: "lock.gif"). That reminded me that I saw that this morning, too. But with no problem signing in, I had ignored it. Also, I watched closely but saw no blue screen with big "Computer Locked" message after this second hibernation.

I don't know what to make of this.

In between those hibernations, I Googled "booting windows 7 i saw blue screen with 'your computer has been locked' but my computer is NOT LOCKED" .

Bleeping was near the top of the hits. But Malwarebytes wouldn't let me go to the first hit because "Malwarebytes blocked a suspected bad URL or an unwanted program." Here's the URL: https://www.pcrisk.com/download-reimage; also, see attached "mal.gif".

So there's THAT on top of the blue screen with "Your Computer ... Locked" and twice finding "Locked" above the password box.

I'm speechless.

Hi,

My son bought an HP with Windows 7 that had apparently been used as a display model. He had only owned it for about 2 months, when he could no longer log in -- screen would go black (with pointer arrow showing) but would otherwise never finish booting.

I was able to successfully log in to his account (set up as an administrator) in Safe Mode.

I noticed that there was another user account called MDX Kiosk that was logged on and had several programs running in background.

In order to improve his performance, I went into the Control Panel and deleted the user account "MDX Kiosk". It was slow to respond and I hit the enter key 2 or 3 times (apparently a big mistake).

When I shut down the PC and tried to re-boot, I found that I had not only deleted the MDX Kiosk account but had apparently deleted my son's user account as well. Now I can no longer log on to the computer.

I've read the threads about the "Built In Administrator" but have been unable to logon to that -- I guess it is disabled???

Any suggestions???

Answer:Deleted All User Accounts

Hello Dnewpor, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you do not have any other administrator account that you can log in to, then you might see if you may be able to boot into Safe Mode. Afterwards, see if you can enable, log off, and log on to the built-in Administrator account.

Once you are logged into the built-in Administrator account, you can just create new ordinary administrator accounts to replace the ones that you deleted.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I was diagnosed with the Poweliks virus this past November and, while my computer is functional, I am nearly certain the viruses/malware were not completely removed by my neighborhood computer expert when I brought it to him for service.

Over the last week I've used many of the popular tools; to name a few: sfc, TDSSKiller, Kapersky VRT, Gmer, Malwarebytes Premium, AVAST, ESET, RogueKiller, Hijack This, and AdwCleaner.  Some found issues and others didn't.  What concerns me most is that ComboFix (sorry, I know you advise laymen not  use it) found eight locked registry keys and there are unknown user accounts.

I am trying to get an old office PC working again but cannot understand how this was originally set up. Perhaps you can help. When I log in normal mode, I can see 3 user accounts - Owner (password protected), spare (which I have just set up in SAFE mode) and Guest. Neither Guest or Spare are password protected. However, when I log on in Safe mode, all I can see are Owner (password protected) and Admin (not password protected). How can I get to see Admin in Normal mode and Spare and Guest in SAFE mode, please.

Answer:Windows XP - different users accounts in Safe Mode

If its an old office machine then its likely to be well tied down by the IT department
I liberated one from my old firm used to take nearly 15 mins to boot to a usable condition.
I got the key out of it then formatted the drive and reinstalled XP, now boots in 29seconds, use it as a spare and back p for all of my work stuff.

It appears my regular Windows 7 account (a "super admin" account) is blocked from other users. When I try to access the user files from another Windows 7 account, or from my Windows 8 side, it does not let me access the files. Is there a way around this? I'm guessing its some tiny setting or something I have missed or overlooked, but idk.

Thanks

We have several users who's accounts lock out on a regular basis- as many as 6 times per day. We are an Active Directory single domain shop. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for any tools to troubleshoot this issue?

Answer:users accounts lock out on a regular basis

Follow the link below. I don't know if it will help, but it's a start. There is a tool provided by Microsoft, for download, that displays info about a locked out account.

In accordance with regulatory instructions, PayPal is about to change their withdrawal functionality in India starting on August 1, 2010. At present you can request for either an electronic or cheque withdrawal of funds from your PayPal account if you are an India user.

From July 29, 2010 onwards, you will only be able to request for a cheque withdrawal of funds from your PayPal account.

In a mail to me they said, “While we are working hard to restore the electronic withdrawal service, in the meantime, we are bringing this matter to your attention so that you can plan your future withdrawal activities accordingly.”
To request for a cheque withdrawal:
1. Log into your PayPal account, click on ‘Withdraw’.
2. Click on the ‘Request a cheque from PayPal’ link.
3. Enter the withdrawal amount and select your mailing address, then click ‘Continue’.
4. Click ‘Submit’ to confirm your request. In order to help you with this change and until further notice, Paypal will refund the $5 USD cheque withdrawal fee to you for cheque withdrawals made on July 29, 2010 onwards.

Going to the control panel, System, I see computer name ABCD-PC and full computer name ABCD-PC.
Going to control panel, user accounts I see ABCD...No other users.

When I login to this PC, from external app, I have to use ABCDZ user name.

We are running Win 7 enterprise & Win 10 Enterprise and seem to be having issues with profiles. Recently we have noticed that multiples of staff accounts are appearing in the format shown below.

I have never seen this happen before and they appearing all over the place. Our staff use redirected folders but local settings are kept on the machines. I've never seen this happen before, but also after a while windows will prevent the user logging in. The
only work around we have found is to remove the folders and the registry entries. Anyone else seen or know how to fix this?

When checking folder properties/security tab I noticed that there are 2 unknown user accounts in the control panel. These were probably created when I tried to take possession of a folder (Skype) that I was having trouble deleting. I changed permissions for the particular folder, at one point adding an account with administrator privileges. Want to delete these accounts, but am concerned that I might have log on issues. Would appreciate if you could point me in the right direction.

Answer:Unknown accounts in Users control panel

edit: nup, thought about it a moment, wouldn't work/make any difference.

Can't see you'd have log on issues with your current account if it is an admin though. Do you have backups... is always a good idea, though probably irrelevant in this situation.

I'd just do it...

I have a lot of users whose XP domain accounts in Active Directory are constantly getting locked out (i.e., at least once every hour or so). One particular user was prompted to change his password before leaving the office and did not. His password expired on the road and he now logs in locally with the old password and has to use his new domain passsord for mapping his shared drive on the server. Is there any way to prevent his account from constantly locking?

Hi,

I upgraded this laptop to windows 10 Education from win 7. I have a desktop PC running win 7 Pro. I had a Homegroup set up which was working fine and I could send files back and forth. After the upgrade I simply joined the Homegroup again by typing in the Homegroup password. On the surface things seem to work, but I am currently "locked" out of my Users folder and apparently everything in it. That is, \\<my pc name>\Users. It's the very first folder you see when you go to Network -> double click my computer icon. I am unable to create a new folder within Users, and I am unable to cut anything out of it. So I sent a folder from my desktop PC to my laptop, but now I can't cut -> paste that folder anywhere on my laptop because I don't have permission. I tried to change ownership of the Users folder. Right now it says the owner is "SYSTEM" (whatever that means). I tried to set it to Administrators, and got an error "Unable to set new owner on Users. Access is denied."

Now what? This is infuriatingly stupid. What did Microsoft think was even the point of having Homegroups if I can't cut my files out of the folder and place it where I want it?

Answer:Locked out of my own Users folder in homegroup

If you can access it through normal network sharing, then delete the homegroup. Homegroup shares off of the Library's, which are nothing more than a shortcut to those folders under them. Home Group has been a headache since the day Microsoft try to push it as a wonderful way of dummy proofing file and printer sharing, but it has never worked in real life.

Logged back on just now and found that the three accounts for myself, my wife and my daughter have mysteriously disappeared! Is there any way I can retreive the accounts to how they were before? If not is there any way I can retreive the messages and add them to new accounts? I really hope all data has not been lost. Thanks in advance.

So this is fairly hilarious:

My mother has an archaic HP she is donating to someone and in preparation she took all private info off the computer. After removing all sensitive information, she decided to remove the user accounts and somehow removed ALL of them. This means no administrator, no default, no user, no nothing. Every account deleted.

Since coming over to help her we've tried safemode, debug mode, HP Recovery, etc etc etc. Windows boots to the login screen and we've tried anything imaginable. Does anyone know of solutions short of reinstalling the OS?

Answer:Deleted *all* user accounts in win2k pro

I don't think you can delete the built-in 'Administrator' (not 'Admin') account.

Try to login to 'Administrator' - if you know the password, of course...

Have you tried to login to Last Known Good Configuration?

Well, the good news is, the bootable CD worked and I got back into my Admin account.

The bad news is, before I got myself kicked out, while I was foolishly messing around with my user accounts (trying to get rid of the login screen), it appears that I accidentally deleted THE account that I'd be using for years, w/ all my data, docs, emails, photos, music, etc.

I know this is a long shot but ... does anyone know anything about recovering deleted accounts?

I know there probably isn't a way. Silly me.

I'd like to thank everyone for their input. I learned a lot from y'all!

In a misguided attempt to change my XP welcome screen... I think I may have killed my computer. Please help!
Here's what I did... control userpasswords2 - unchecked box for log in. still had user selection on welcome screen. Here's where it all went wrong... Entered control userpasswords2 again then deleted all users but administrator. Yes I know NOW this was not a good idea. changed administrator password (again bad choice). Rebooted computer. Password does not work. Am unable to get into computer. Tried safemode - partition codes. Any suggestions? or am I completely out of luck? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

The rules won't let us help you crack a password. If you can't remember it, and there are no other accounts, we are unable to help.

When I log on, I get that dreaded error saying that the wrong password was given. Then I go back and log in with a different account. I would like to get rid of the user account that tries to log in first, but when I go to Control-User Accounts-Manage Another Account, it isn't listed. Where the heck is it?

Answer:Three users on splash screen, but only two listed under User Accounts

I deleted one of the user accounts, and they both disappears, so now I'm left with just the built in Admin account, and I can't add another account. When I click on Add Account, it just buffers and times out. I'm going to try the solution on another thread.

Hello,

We are currently in the process of updating the Windows machines at the university that I work up to Windows 7 from XP. Recently we have been noticing issues when students log into the machines where it might randomly login to a TEMP profile over the Domain Profile.

Any ideas on why this might be?

Answer:Temp Profiles being created on Domain Users Accounts Win 7

I would check to see if you are using redirected folders on the server for the users in question. I have seen problems because of the different folder structure for the "?sers" folder in xp versus win 7.

Answer:Admin Accounts saving on other users on Vista Ultimate

You are going to need to save it to a shared folder and then log out and into the other account, then you can move or copy the file from the shared folder to the current users Documents folder.

By the way, you are NOT "The Administrator" but a member of the Admin group.

Yo guys I Have two accounts on my pc My main one wich is a administer account and I also have a guest account for my little sisters to use. One thing tough is I want them to see basicly only A new install of windows and just paint and stuff. I dont want them to be able to get to my anime or any of my games. Right now the gues account is practially the same as mine just limited stuff you can do. Thanks

Answer:How to Not allow Guest users to see programs and files on other (admisistor) accounts

I have 8x users and I successfully prevent some of them to see the same stuff as the main user/admin can, and did it roughly as follows:

Chose the directory you don't want them to see, then rightclick and chose properties or found your way to security. The trick is to add the name of the user in security to that directory, and then block it ....Deny Access...You can now further hide that directory, and the user will normally not see it, but if he view it, he will get message=Access Denied.

The Guest:I would treat the Guest in similar way.

Hi there

seem to have found a SHOWSTOPPER on build 10158 -- If I try and add an account (or a user) I get a quick flash on the screen and then it disappears and I'm still in the settings menu.

The PC has always had just a LOCAL account.

There's obviously something wrong if I can't add users .

I think that as it's a VM I'll ditch it and go back to build 10130 on a REAL machine and try the update again. Then I'll create a NEW VM hopefully with build 10159.

Cheers

Im using my Desktop, Windows 7, my working machine.
I had to use a software called Hotspot Shield, as you know it is a VPN.
All right, it was everything fine, I was being able to get along with it nicely till I restarted my PC.
The first thing I noticed is that he asked me to log in my admin user, wich I tought very strange since I don't have any other user to log on.
I got myself worried and when I checked the Users, nothing, it was empty, but then checking the Parental Control ( My windows is a portuguese version so I don't know the exaclty translation, it is a guess) I found some users in there, protected by password wich I actually can't delete!
The users are:
Fbwuser0668
Fbwuser5CD2
Fbwuser8613
and there is this other user that I've never meet before:
UptatusUser
so my problem is:
I don't want my Windows to ask me start up on my admin account, I want him to start directly without ask for it.
I don't know if this users can do any bad to me, but I'm afrraid of it, so... Delete em.
From now on, thanks you guys!

Answer:I have hidden users locked for passwords and I can't delete em, help please!

Hi-my son loves to mess about with computers, which I encourage-however he has deleted all user accounts except one account (he said he was trying to free up memory), which is named Guest and has (so it says) administrator rights. PC works fine but I now want to add a new wireless printer but it says I need administrator rights! I am the only user and the profile has administrator status.
Anyway-tried to add new user and get message 'The specified account names is not valid, because account names cannot contain the following characters ^[]":;|<>+=,?*'
After doing some google searches have tried many times to add another user via the CMD prompt, but I always get 'System 5 error, access denied' even when I run as administrator, with UAC disabled.
Am I stuffed or is there a solution-which I can't seem to find on the net.
Help!

Answer:All user accounts deleted-except built in administrator

Have you tried a system restore?
