Norton keeps asking me to give permission for my PC to access 207.46.107.66.

Question: Norton keeps asking me to give permission for my PC to access 207.46.107.66.

This box keeps popping up every few minutes asking for me to give permission for my PC to contact it. It also rates it as a HIGH RISK contact.

1) Should I give my permission?

2) I am told this is a Microsoft contact. What info is it sharing to be rated HIGH RISK?

3) Is there a way to block this for good without keep getting the pop-ups? If so, would it affect the performance of my PC in any way.
I have Windows updates set to manual and this problem only appeared yesterday morning and I dont recall downloading anything.

However, I did upgrade Norton to the 2005 version about a week ago if this my have anything to do with it.

I cannot find any answers on Google and would be grateful for any assistance with this.
Many thanks

Preferred Solution: Norton keeps asking me to give permission for my PC to access 207.46.107.66.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Norton keeps asking me to give permission for my PC to access 207.46.107.66.

Hi kiasu

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

I did a ping for 207.46.107.66 and the request timed out.

I don't use Norton, does it show anything in Norton's Help file about permanently blocking a site?
See if this link helps in configuring that site to be permanetly blocked:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...56eda00456216&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl=

When was the last time you ran a virus scan?

You might consider running an online virus scan at the following:

Run an online Anti-Virus scan from at least one and preferably 2 of the following sites
Trendmicro HouseCall
PandaActiveScan
SymantecSecurityScan
RavAntiVirusScanOnline
Allow them to clean/delete any spyware/malware or viruses/trojans they may find.
Make a note of any files flagged that were unable to be cleaned or deleted.

Download, Install and check each of the following Spyware tools for updates:
(If you already have the following, please make sure it is the latest version and has been updated)
Ad-Aware SE 1.05:
Click on Full System Scan and deselect Search for negligible risk entries. Have Ad-Aware SE remove what it finds.
Spybot-S&D 1.3:
Have it fix what it finds marked in Red.
Spyware Blaster 3.4:
Click on Updates > Check for Updates Switch to Protection
Under Quick Tasks click Enable All Protection. Close Spyware Blaster.

Let us know if that helps or not.

On Windows7 Pro,  trying to run IIS.  The way I am used to execute is  on the browser "localhost".  I used to have the code in the directory  C:\inetpub\wwwroot.   Even before I copy,  I am hoping to see
the image IIS welcome page.  Once it is successful, want to copy the code as that was the way I used to do in Window XP.    However I am getting the following message.  I have administrator access to the machine and gave full permissions
to the folder  'C:\inetpub\wwwroot'.  Still the same message.
Error message 401.3: You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied (access denied due to Access Control Lists). Ask the Web server's administrator to give you access to 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot'.

Can someone help me to address this issue.  Thanks a lot in advance.

I run Win 7 64 bit pro version.
Whenever I try to install a complex program such as Nero multimedia suite 10,
(that's only an example it happens lots of other times as well) it pops up and says I don't have permission to access a certain file or folder. I am the only user and am already an administrator.
There are no other user accounts on the computer.
When it tells me to consult my administrator, who do I consult?
What I would like to do is set permission for myself to access all files and folders (including newly created ones).
Anyone know how to do this? I have been fighting this for over a year now.
I'm tempted to just do a clean install to a home edition as I am not knowledgeable for the pro version.

Answer:Give myself permission

Hello eingram25 & Welcome to SevenForums!

First of all, how are you installing the software? Is it an .exe?

Hi

How can I give permission for Windows7 to PERMANENTLY give permission to a particular application to run?

e.g. I am very fond of a desktop application called "Everything" - that quickly indexes and the searches very fast across all your file names for the text you enter. It's a great tool for speeding up finding files when you have no idea where the heck you saved them - but it's a pain that every time you open "Everything" (after a Win7 reboot) you are forced to manually give it permission to run - AGAIN.

Answer:Have to give permission to open Firefox

First Go to Start > All Programs > Mozilla Firefox > Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode)
If that starts w/out a prompt then one of your add-ons is causing the prompt.

Otherwise...

Uninstall Firefox (Keep settings)
Reinstall Firefox.

If that doesn't fix it, try it without keeping the settings. You'll have to reconfigure firefox though.

If that doesn't fix it, you can turn down or turn off UAC (Not recommended)

I have tried everything I have read about giving permissions, admin right etc, but it still asks for my password everytime he opens the game? I'm at a loss...thank you for your time

Answer:How to give admin permission to limited user

Hello Scott,

You might see if creating an elevated shortcut of the game that standard users can use to run the game elevated without getting an UAC prompt for your password may help.

Since this is for a game and not a normal program, there's no guarantee that this will work though.

I am sick and tired of always having to give programs like autoruns permission to edit the registry and protected files, not to mention the popup asking if i want to open this and that. I want to disable this function, how?

Answer:Permanently give programs adminitrative permission

You can try disabling the 'User Account Control'. Open your Start Menu, type UAC in the search box, the select 'Change user account control settings'. Move the slider in the UAC settings all the way to the bottom, click 'Apply' and reboot.

Hi

Sorry to ask an obvious question but... how can I give a specific program PERMANENT permission to run?

e.g. I still use a (very light and fast) desktop search utility called "Everything". It JUST searches filenames, and this is sometimes very useful.

I don't want to turn off my User Account Control Setting (UACS) completely because I want it to stop anything that I haven't given permission to from running. But it's incredibly irritating that every single time I open my "Everything" application that I am have to give it permission to run.

Many thanks

J

P.S. What is worse is that Everything tries to spider my disk at start up and so every time I reboot it needs permission to run. Nightmare! Fwiw, I never had that problem in Win7...

PPS. Btw, where can I find (and stop) which application are being loaded at startup?

Answer:How to give permanent UACS permission to an application?

You could use either tutorial to have a program run elevated without getting or turning off the UAC prompt to do so.

Ever since installing Lightshot, which is a screen capturing program (I know others who use this, but the problem only seems to happen to me, so it's not a virus), the file which installs keeps asking me for administrator permission yet even when I do give it administrator permission nothing happens. I assume it's automatically opening itself... I've deleted the file where it came from (Temp folder) yet it still asks me for permission even after deleting it (from the same file location?), and it's really annoying as there doesn't seem to be any way to get rid of the said file nor block it from asking for permission.

I run Windows 8 on a x64 processor. Can anyone help me? If need be, I can give the exact file location.

Answer:A specific program keeps asking me to give it administrator permission hourly.

Just deleting a program is typically bad practice. Did you try uninstalling it first or check if there is a uninstaller program in it's files? It's probably to late to try revo uninstaller. That program works well with removing everyhing related to it even left over registry keys. Not sure exactly what process name is starting up asking you to run. You should be able to see it in task manager by hitting ctrl+shift+esc keys. it should open to processes tab. Click on the  name column at the top below the processes tab and it will catagorize everything into apps, background processes, windows processes. That helps determining what process group it is related to.

In the process tab you can right-click the running program and choose "Go to details" Note that it has highlighted the program in details tab. Write down the process ID (PID) right-click again and you have options to Open file location, go ahead and do that but do not delete any files just yet. Minmize the browser for now. Now right-click the service again & "Go to Services". What is the name and process description?

I have a home network implemented using workgroup. I want to share a folder on my vista pc with one other user over lan. I want to set it up like if that particular user clicks on the folder (under "Network"->"My PC"), he gets access, but if some other lan user clicks on the folder, it prompt for a password OR give any kind of error.
So far I have tried going to to-be-shared folder's security permissions and grant "Everyone" read persmissions, but then everyone over lan gets access to the folder contents. If I remove everyone, then that specific user I want to share folder with also gets blocked out. So far its all-or-none results for me. Someone suggested me to create a local account on my pc with the same username as the friend I want to share folder with, but thats little clumsy stopgap solution for me because then I would have to create a user on my pc for every person over lan who I want to share a specific folder with. Is there any other way to accomplish the desired results??

Answer:How to give file sharing permission to a specific user over lan??

there are a couple of ways you could make it happen but they all involve extra time and or money:
1) set up as NAS system some of the like the buffallo drive will allow you to create users to access network resources

2) use a open source ldap implentation to create a directory

3) set up a win srv 2k3/8 directory

without a directory there is no way to centerlly manage users and ressouces thats why setting

a cheap way would be if you have a extra pc and a large HDD you can?store all the profiles and shared folders on this pc

Is it possible to give full permission for the users in program files folder ?

can any one please advise this
i am unable to give permission from admin account

Answer:give full permission for the users in program files folder

Hi Oberwald
Thank you so much for the valuable information.
I have done this by
1) Turn off UAC (User Account Control)

Before you can do anything, you must turn off the UAC, or you will be locked out of the following steps.

1) Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> User Accounts
2) Click "Change User Account Control Settings"
3) Move slider all the way down to "Never Notify"
4) Reboot

2) Take Ownership

Yes take ownership. Even though you are logged on as an Administrator, you can't change files that don't belong to you. The Program Files folder is set to the Trusted Installer group and the Administrator doesn't have the rights to change anything. So now we
have to claim all the files and folders.

1) Open Windows Explorer
2) R-Click on Program Files -> Properties -> Security Tab
3) Click Advanced -> Owner
4) Click Edit
5) Select Administrators -> Put a checkmark in Replace owner on subcontainers & objects -> Apply
6) Wait a while.....
7) When it finishes, Click OK on all boxes to close everything

3) Fix Permissions

Now that you own the files, you have to give yourself permission to modify them

1) R-Click on Program Files -> Properties -> Security Tab
2) Click Advanced -> Change Permission
3) Select Administrators (any entry) -> Edit
4) Change the Apply To drop down box to This Folder, Subfolder & Files
5) Put check in Full Control under Allow column -> OK -> Apply

I have Norton Password Manager and want to move it to another PC. I can't see a way of doing it. Do I have to buy the new Norton Confidential or is there a way of transfering my existing program by USB memory stick or something.
(I downloaded the original copy so I don't have a disk)

Answer:Do I have to give Norton money?

Norton is in business to make money, not friends. So you can probably forget installing any of their programs in a second computer, especially since you do not have it on disk.

I'm not familiar with Nortons Password Manager, but I suspect it does pretty much the same thing as RoboForm, which is free. RoboForm has a password generator and records all passwords used on sites you access using the utility. It also has a number of other handy features, such as FillForm. Check it out here

When I restarted the PC, after a colleague had restarted the disc server, I noticed Ghost was busy but didn't mind as it was good to see it had survived the crash. Hi Patrick,

Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team responding to your posting.

Since the server that you were sending the backup to had a power outage, the backup most likely did not complete, or other problems may have occurred on the server, which are preventing the backup from completing. This power-outage may also have affected your Windows XP machine as well, and may have corrupted the Norton Ghost application.

Make sure that you can access the server in Windows, where you are sending the Ghost backup. If you can access the server, launch Ghost and create a new backup job and try to send the backup to server again.

If the Ghost application is still having ... Read more

Just as the title says. What is the easiest, yet most effective way to give a limited user account on XP SP2 no internet access, that won't 'undo' itself over time? Thanks.

Answer:Most effective way to give a limited access user no internet access? (XP SP2)

For one, create a user account that does not have administrator rights. That "should" keep them from installing new software. You'll have to test this. If you're running NTFS, you could lock down the Program Files folder by adjusting the security settings for it and all child folders to read only for the unpriveleged user.

One way I've disabled use of Internet Explorer, is to set the Proxy setting to 127.0.0.1. Since the system is not running a proxy, IE will then always fail to reach the internet.

To prevent anyone from changing the proxy settings, run gpedit.msc, select User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Internet Explorer, and see "Disable changing connection settings" and "Disable changing proxy settings"

You could also go into "Computer Configuration", Administrative Templates, Internet Explorer, Internet Control Panel, and select the "Disable the Connections Page".

There are other ways. Do you have a router/firewall between your network and the Internet? Do you have a spare box you can set up as a proxy server? Install a proxy server, such as Squid on a spare box running 24/7. Configure it to require user login to the proxy, and configure per-user access restrictions. Then configure the router/firewall to only allow outgoing traffic via the proxy server. This will force your "limited access user" to go through the proxy to reach the internet, and you can finel... Recent changes:
We recently removed 5 out of 6 total 2008R2 DCs from our environment and promoted 5 x 2016 servers as DCs.  We are still running the domain functional level @ 2008R2 however.
Single forest 2 domain environment
Shortly have recent changes (stated above) the issue started with 5 users in parent domain.  After existing user logs in applications like  windows explorer, internet explore, will error with  "windows cannot access the specified
device, path or file. you may not have the appropriate permission to access the item".  Also, other applications will not run as they are attempting to resister OCX file and DLLs.  cannot access computer management even after granting affected
user local admin rights.  This issue has now transcended to child domain and is affecting at the moment only 1 existing user.
Unaffected users are able to login to same test computer and run applications without issue.
Clearly a domain permission problem with the user account, but not sure how to proceed.
For testing I gave affected users domain admin rights and the issue goes away.  Remove domain admin rights and the issue returns for the user.
Any ideas?

Hello,

I am attempting to access an application.exe file on my desktop. Each time that I click on it the Windows message, "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." pops up. I am the system administrator so this should NOT be a problem but apparently many out there are dealing with this as well. I can delete, move and even copy the file but I cannot run it. There is no option for override with password or grant permission. It just says that I cannot run it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, the system I am running is Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

Answer:Windows can't access file. May not have permission to access.

Hello KyRy, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might check to see if you can right click on the file, click on Properties, click on Security tab, and make sure that you have Read & execute permission allowed (checked) for your user account or the administrators group.Permissions - Allow or Deny Users and Groups
If not, then you might see if you may be able to install and use the free program Unlocker on the file to have access to it afterwards.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

i installed this new program a few weeks ago and found that on start up at "sign in " stage ( mine is password proected ) i hear and then see a norton error message that says " ATTENTION norton protection : access denied drive C " with a large OK sign next to a red circle with a white cross in it . The first part of the message sits in a blue bar and the rest is grey . I have spoken to NOrton who advised me to do a number of things none of which have worked namely
1 . an NTFS problem due to Windows XP permissions not being set correctly . I adjusted these allowing total access for all users via the "permissions "lists ( right click drive C > properties > security tab > administrator > check "allow" all items . this didnt help at all .
2. i was then advised to remove the whole installation along with removing all registry enteries for new and old norton products which took some time as there are a huge amount and once completed and reboooted i ran a registry healer and rebooted once more and reinstalled . As soon as the program was installed and before rebooting i heard the saw the warning sign .
3. i checked the norton protection in the recycle bin and saw that the protection was not on so i checked it and rebooted which had no effect . i then removed the protected bin which didnt help either . i was then asked to disable file sharing ( i have a small network of 3 pcs but tried it anyway ) on my c drive ( my pc>drive c &... Norton blocks wmiprvse access to Norton security. What is this process?

Answer:Norton blocks wmiprvse access to Norton security. What is this process?

From Process Library. wmiprvse.exe - What is wmiprvse.exe?

What is wmiprvse.exe doing on my computer?
wmiprvse.exe process refers to a core Windows management technology known as Windows Management Instrumentation which allows users to be able to manage local and remote systems alike. Through WMI daily management tasks through programming or scripting languages can be undertaken. To mention a few, the list includes the ability to reboot a computer remotely or manually start a process on a remote system. Among the capabilities of WMI, one can include views, querying, eventing and remoting.

Developers use the wmiprvse.exe file in order to develop applications used for monitoring purposes. These programs can notify users about important events related to network and file or application management right after each event occurs. With wmiprvse.exe, file managers in the enterprise environment are capable of configuring and searching for desktop system information or network and application information across the network.

The wmiprvse.exe file is placed with other services in the shared service host. This started to be applied with the release of MS Windows XP. Providers are also loaded separately in the wmiprvse.exe file since it considers the wmiprvse.exe executable as a host process.
wmiprvse.exe is a system process that is needed for your PC to work properly. It should not be removed. .

Answer:Access Denied You don't have permission to access

For starters, where are you trying to access it from? Is this an Internet connection from home, college, business, etc? If it's a home connection, perhaps you should speak with your ISP to see if there are any issues. As for business and colleges: the people in charge of networking at these respective establishments would be the best bet.

a friend of mine has loaded comodo firewall and avg free A/V but the tick box in the bottom right hand corner keeps asking to give access for AVG update despite her continually ticking the box. She has Vista. Does anyone know the solution please?

Answer:Comodo keeps asking to give AVG access

Just use the Vista (windows) firewall. Go to Comodo site forums and read the many problems with it. Had a few myself and had to uninstall. Pity really as it was a good firewall until it became bloated. I use version 2 on XP and still good. Vista I use windows' own and is ok I think.

The more I use Vista, the more I hate it.... I cannot WAIT for Windows 7.

Anyway... All I am trying to do is save a picture off of the web. I am using it for a reference file for a 3D design I'm making. I want to put it into my References folder (Which I have created within the program's main folder in "Program Files". But the All Mighty, All Wise Vista won't let me save it there... it says I have to contact my system administrator to give me access to save the picture... WTF?! The 'Oh so Wise' Vista wanted me to save it into my "Pictures" folder, and after finally agreeing... IT"S NOT EVEN THERE!

Please, can someone help?

My previous computer, which had my aol password automatically entered, blew up. In trying to sign in to the free aol mail service from my new computer, I keep getting the "incorrect screen name or password" message. When I go through their process to change my password, they say that they've sent an email to "the email address you've provided" which of course is the account I can't get into. Now what?

Answer:I can't get aol to give me access to my mail

Nothing you can do with free e-mail accounts. You have to be able to prove the account is yours by answering the security questions.

I am a teacher and I want to post YouTube videos for parents and kids. But I want them to have access ONLY to the videos intended for them. When I open up my YT page, I see my whole history, plus various videos I've uploaded. What's the procedure so that they see only the ones intended for them?

Answer:How do you give access only to certain YouTube videos?

Every video that you upload on YouTube has a unique address , you can give that address to direct them to the mentioned video.
Also you can make a channel for yourself with an account in YouTube and upload video for parents and kids just in your account, then lead them to your channel , they will see all of your uploaded videos.

I use Serv-U and like it very much but it is for Windows and Commercial and you can also use IIS built into Windows.

For Linux errm.. don't know, but I'm sure there are many.

I recently upgraded a pc to XP Home. The upgrade went fine and I added a user that I want to have limited access to programs and files. My problem is that I want the user to be able to use programs like Word and Excel as well as the Internet. I have it set up so they can use the Internet and Email, but I can't figure out how to give them access to the Word and Excel program that is already installed on the computer. Word and Excel work fine under my user, but the guest user can't run them. Is there a way to give the guest user the right to use those programs without installing them while logged in as the guest?

Answer:Give program access to other users

Install office under that user's account, select custom and install only what you want him to have access to. Office must be installed for each user profile to work properly.

Hey!
All of a sudden yesterday, Steam started giving me error messages when trying to download or update games. They were saying: "An error occured when trying to install. (Disk write error)". I found out it was not only steam, but I also cant install programs or anything else on the drive. I'm talking about my second drive, where I store all my large files. My main one is a SSD dedicated to OS.

Anyway, digging into the problem I found out I can't give my self full rights to different folders on that drive, so I followed this tutorial. When finished, and everything still working I still get an error message! What the actual ****.

The box marked in red is the error I'm getting:

Help anyone?
By the way, awesome nostalgic smileys. RIP MSN.

Hi,
I have a TV and a freeview (HDD) recorder both of which are internet capable, allowing access to a limited number of TV-on-demand services such as BBC i-Player, Youtube, etc.
In both cases they will only connect by being hard-wired into my BB hub. I could of course start drilling holes in walls, door frames, lifting carpets, and the like to run Ethernet(? have I used the right name?) cables from my hub to them, or doing simular to move the hub closer, but a far simpler solution (cable wise) would be to run an Ethernet cable from my PC (that accesses the net via WiFi) to one or the other (a distance of about 2 meters).
(USB Wi-Fi can not be used on the TV, and the Recorder will only work with the USB Wi_fi Dongle sold by the manufacturer which costs about £80. Given the limited net access it actually gives I am not prepared to pay that."
Is it possible to use the spare LAN socket on my PC (that uses a Wi-Fi USB Dongle) to connect to the TV or HDD recorder, and set up my PC to act as some form of "Intermediary?"
Thanks in advance fror any suggestions.

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere - if it has I couldn't find it - but I'm using Windows 7 and there seems to be two icons for My Documents. When I double click one of them I get the message 'You do not have permission to access this folder' which is very annoying especially since this used to happen with Vista and I'd hoped MS would've fixed the problem. Are there any solutions?

Answer:You do not have permission to access this folder!

The location of XP folders like Documents & Settings and History are no longer in the same place. They are displayed when ?hidden files? are displayed but they are ?Junctions?, i.e. they are there for historical reasons so that old programs that would normally use them are redirected to the new Vista and Windows 7 locations. Junctions can be recognised by having a little padlock on the icon and cannot be accessed. You can see a list of these folders using a command prompt. Click the Windows Orb (Start) > Run, type cmd /k dir /al (note the three spaces) and press Enter. The results will be a list of all the Junctions for the user folders, showing the name of the old XP user folder and the name of the new folder in brackets.

Try Take Ownership Shortcut on the folders or drive.

Can you plug in the drive internally?

You can always Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console or use Paragon Rescue Kit Free Edition 11.0 Free CD to another HD which require no permissions.

I have a folder on the D partition on a computer that originally had XP on it that I formatted both partitions during setup and installed the OS on C: and I use D: for frequently used images and my Windows 7 themes images. I have a folder that has about 300 screenshots from various animes of some of my favorite characters. it has been there since the install in 2014. But now every time I try to access the folder, I get an error message you don't currently have permission to access this folder. and I have to allow it via UAC. I did a web search of the message and only found results about working with files in the root of C drive or system files. I have three computers, and I'm running Quickbooks accounting software on all three. Quickbooks requires all three computers to connect to the company file, stored on one computer. The file is stored on a computer called OFFICE, and OFFICE runs windows 8.1 pro. The other two computers are SHOP, running 7 pro, freshly installed at the end of december, and TOMMY, also running a fresh install of 7 pro as of last Friday. All windows copies are legitimate copies from Microsoft.

Originally, I set the network up wirelessly, and all three were communicating properly. However, quickbooks shuts down if communication to the host is lost even for a moment, and is not supposed to be compatible with wireless connections. So on Monday, I made some CAT5, ran it from each computer to the router, and got everyone hooked up to the internet. My cable tester was bad and gave me a false positive on one of my cables, resulting in me reinstalling the NIC driver in an attempt to get SHOP to recognize that it was plugged in. Eventually figured out I'd gotten a false positive, retipped the cable, and got connected properly.

Now for our network, I tried to set up set up shared files. I gave everyone permission to read/write to the file, but SHOP could not access the file. So I set up a windows homegroup on OFFICE and had TOMMY and SHOP join it. TOMMY and OFFICE can both see each other on the homegroup, but neither can see SHOP. SHOP can see both TOMMY and OFFICE. I removed all three from th... Read more

Answer:Cannot access [computer]. You may not have permission.

i run a network with quickbooks also. it is a pain. check the hosts file, go to computer, windows, system32, drivers, etc folder. open it in notepad. at the bottom, you should have the ip address and computer name of the server on the clients. there are examples in there to show you how to add them. if this is the case, then i would suggest paying for a quickbooks tech to remote onto your system and help. but first, try the forums on their site, i have used them and they are pretty good, just not too fast if you're in a hurry. quickbooks is pretty reasonable with their rates, and when they remote in, you don't have to do anything, although i would take notes while watching, i did.

Hello i am trying to use a keygen for avg and i can not seem to open it due to an error message. I have tried allowing the program in avg and going into the nvidia control panel to turn of the supposed firewall but it was not there and i still get the message please help.

Answer:You may not have appropriate permission to access this file

There's a free version of AVG available to download - http://free.avg.com/gb-en/download-avg-anti-virus-free

If you're using a pirate copy of the full version, we can't help as we don't offer support for illegally obtained software, cracks or keygens.

My xp laptop had recently crash, but the my hard drive is still intact. I have a windows 8 computer now and I am trying to transfer the memory, but when I try to access the xp hard drive from windows 8 computer, I cannot access it. I get the "You don't currently have permission to access this folder" message. Please help me get access to the hard drive.

Answer:You don't currently have permission to access this folder

Hello DJCool, and welcome to Eight Forums.

You might see if taking ownership of the XP drive with the Replace owner of subcontainers and objects box checked, then set permissions to "Allow" your account "Full control" of the drive may allow you to have access afterwards.

(Option Three)
Take Ownership of a File, Folder, Drive, or Registry Key in Windows 8

(Option Two)
Permissions - Allow or Deny Access to Users and Groups in Windows 8
Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi, i have this problem that i cannot solve. i know why it happened but i was kinda trying stuff without really knowing what i was doing, so now i turn to this forum cause i tried all i could think/find and i still cant solve my mistake.

I had two HD,
C: with XP pro sp3 and linux (dual boot)
D: formated in ntfs with all extra data (songs, video, reports, receipt etc..)

When i had these two working normally, i needed to restrict the access of the second HD (the D to only one computer on the network so i messed around with the permission. I ended up deleting the whole list;
it was looking like this (under the security tab of the HD properties)
"Administrator"
"SYSTEM"
"User" X\username"

So i deleted these, it gave me problems , then i found how to re-take owner ship. but i only re-added

"User" X\username

i could then again access my files on the D: . but i still couldnt share my files as i wanted for some reason. so i decided to re-install windows...big mistake!!

I formated the C:, re-installed windows on it, no problem with that. But now i see the second HD in windows explorer as RAW and access is denied. Meaning the HD is detected and listed there, but the used space and total space amount is not showing, if i click properties, instead of NTFS its says RAW. If i try to open it to explore the content, i get an access denied message.

I tryied chkdsk it did some things (looked like it was changing stuff, but i cant see a... Read more

Grrrrrrrr...

I am fed up with this stupid thing!

I need to copy a file to a usb drive. I AM The Administrator. DEP is Off. I have no software running that could stop this transfer like spybot tea timer, or an anti-virus.firewall. UAC is Disabled.

My Win 7 tells Me... ME I don't have permission to access the file! The very Nerve of this thing!

I am GOD on my PC and I don't want Windows interfering in MY business! Apparently this uppity Win 7 seeks to challenge it's master. Well it's time to stop that behavior and show it who's the boss.

Any ideas?

This is strange, because I was able to copy the folder the file is in, from the Downloads folder to my Desktop.. but now suddenly I don't have permission to access the file?

EDIT:
~~~~~~~~~~
Mod, I see you moved this thread from the security section.. ( I thought it belonged there since it is a security issue) But.. you renamed the title.. it was called " Baseball Bat - Meet Computer !" Why did you rename my thread? Change it back. I named the thread that title for a reason. I want my title back!
Edit, I am trying to change my title back from the Advanced Editor.. I still wish to know why you would do such a thing.
Edit: It only created a sub title. Please change my main title back.
~~~~~~~~~~

I also notice that under Properties, and the Security tab, I cannot change the permissions. I should be able to as I AM the administrator.

Answer:I don't have permission to access the file!

I'm hoping someone can help me. Recently my laptop has started denying me access to most of my programs. I cannot access any program that does not have the Run as Administrator option. I have Windows Vista and as far as I know I haven't changed any of the settings or security so I'm not sure why it is doing this all of a sudden. The code that I get reads as follows:

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
Can anybody tell me how to fix this?

I keep getting this error everytime I try to get onto a certain site:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access / on this server.

And I am not sure why. I can access the site when I am on a different network or through a proxy, but not from my home network. Is is possible that I was blocked from this site or something? Is there a way to get around this (other than a proxy)?

Answer:You don't have permission to access / on this server.

Can you tell us the site or give us a link to it so we can see if others get the same error.

My desktop computer was on and then the power went out. After the power came back up, it would not boot into windows and I get a message telling me to start the recovery console and to try to repair windows. I did and that didn?t work. So I checked on the Microsoft site and found the procedure ?Guided Help to recover a corrupted registry that prevents Windows XP from starting? This procedure has three steps 1. Copy the five registry files to a backup location and then copy the files from the repair folder to the system folder, 2. Copy the five registry files from a restore snapshot to a temp location and rename them, 3. Then copy the renamed files to the system folder.

I am running win XP SP2 on a power spec PC.

So I ran the first step of this procedure and got the PC to boot into windows. I was not able to run step two or three because there were no restore points. The system restore was never turned on. In addition, all of the former user accounts were gone and only the OEM accounts were present. Because of this I don?t have access to anything including running the user setup in control panel. I get a message that the device, folder, or file is not available. You may not have permission to access these??

I found the procedure for taking ownership, booted into safe mode, logged on as an administrator, and took ownership of the files to the owner account. That didn?t work so I booted back to safe mode and took ownership to the administrator account. That isn?t wo... Read more

New laptop that will not allow me to access certain folders. I have gone into the Folder option in the Control Panel and marked off show me everything but when I attempting to access the "Documents and Settings" folder in the C drive I'm denied access.

There is only one person created for the computer......... me. The computer also shows a "owner".

So the questions is how do I change the "permissions" to give access to all folder on the C drive?

Answer:Permission to Access Folders

Documents and Settings isn't actually a folder, it a Junction (aka Reparse Point or Symbolic Link) pointing to the new location, which is C:\Users.
Users (Even the Administrator) don't have access to the Junctions so they don't accidentally get moved or deleted, which could make programs not written for the new locations to stop working, or even crash.
You can give yourself access on the Security tab (right click, click Properties), but there is nothing inside to access.

Lots of folders have changed from XP. Just takes a while to get used to it.
Here's a few of the new locations:
My Pictures, My Music, My Videos–Where did they go?

Answer:You don't currently have permission to access this folder

The easiest solution is this: Add "Take Ownership" to Context Menu of Files, Folders, and Drives

I have tried to follow the steps to take ownership of the printer but when I right click on properties the only tabs are 'General' and 'Hardware'-- no 'Security' tab. So, I can't follow the rest of the steps. How do I find the printer through Windows Explorer?

I am the only user on my computer and I am the admin, but when I transferred my files from the old computer to the new, I was added as a User due to the old settings.
Now, when I want to access anything, I have to go through the permissions spiel.
Is there a way to change this so I have access to everything?

This recently started and I now have seen this on 5 different computers. All computers have current Trend AV. The box pops up on just about everything, IE - some shortcuts to some site work fine, others hive the message.
My Computer properties, word, excel just about every program.
All of these computers were fine until 8/15 or so and I think it may be a Windows update that corrupted the permissions, but now you cannot get into the permissions to change those either.
Any help would be great.

Hello all,

I think this is my first problem i have encountered since i bought my laptop which is running vista. Ok, maybe it;s been only a few months but still...Also, i wasn;t sure in which section this should have gone, so if i messed up i apologize.

Basically, i installed World of Warcraft and it's expansions and started patching it. When patching from 3.1.0 to 3.1.1, the process kept stoping and 70% then just exit without returning any error in return. So i thought i should run the Repair tool and try again. Only now, when i tried to access WoW.exe i got this error:

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

So i came upon this little reg file called Take Ownership, i ran it but nothing has changed. Also, if i: right click wow.exe->properties->compatibility i cannot tick the "Run this program as an administrator" box.

My only options now, are a complete reinstall of the game and patches (but that's just wrong, because there has to be a more logical solution). If anybody has any ideas please let me know. I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks.

Answer:Cannot access file because i don;t have appropriate permission(WoW.exe)

WoW has been having problems with its servers. You may have to reinstall.

Windows 8.1 running on C drive with all my back up/pervious folder/files on D drive from Windows 7. No issues initially.
Windows 8.1 developed operations issues and bugs a few months ago such as intermittently not allowing access to folders so I wiped C drive and reloaded again.
Currently I have tried to access some picture files, being the ones that were most likely modified /saved to D drive by the original Windows 8.1 and I cannot. Oddly enough it seems I have full access to documents and music folders/files on same D drive and the earliest picture pre first Windows 8.1 and latest pictures save buy current Windows 8.1.

You don’t currently have permission to access this folder

I then click on “Continue”. The next window opens:
You have been denied permission to access this folder

I then click on “security tab” The next window opens: with tabs for General, Sharing, Security, Customise. I have clicked:

“General” to see; size: 0 bytes, Attributes: Read-only (selected), clicked Advanced… to see allow files in the folder to have contents indexed in addition to file properties (selected). No encrypt or other attributes has been selected.

Hello Everyone, because I didn't want people to access my files and I needed to leave my PC turned on in the office, I went to my drive E properties, then security tab then edit and switched my controls from Full control "Allow" to "Deny" locked with a password. I checked it wasn't opening. There we go! Success.
Later on
Failure;
Because now even though I have the password removed, I re-installed my windows 7 to the same 32-bit version. It isn't opening
I changed the controls from full control "Deny" to "Allow" but I can't get access to them. I tried opening it somehow(don't exactly remember how) but still if I have to open up any of the files, I'll have to go to that particular sub folder and file to the properties, security tab, allow full controls and then it opens.
Now I have more than 8 thousand files in it.
Moreover, after re-installing my windows, I can't open my files anyway.
Can someone please help me. I'm assuming this website will notify me if someone leaves a reply to this thread.

Hi everyone, this is my first post.
Let me first apologize for my english :-)
I need your help because i'm getting crazy with some computer.
My office lan is quite heterogeneous : some PCs are in a local domain, other not yet.

One computer (let's call it PC-A) is a winxp professional SP2 with a shared folder for wich Guest and Everyone account permission are set up. This computer is not joined to the local domain.

The problem is that some computer (Win7) can access it and its shared folder , others can not.

More specifically i have a pc (PC-B) with Windows 7 Enterprise, not joined to the local domain , with a static ip that can access PC-A both with \\computername and \\ipaddress.
Another pc (PC-C) not joined to local domain, static ip, win 7 enterprise cannot access PC-A in any way (\\computername or \\ipaddress) but the ping works and so the remote desktop on PC-A.

A third PC (PC-D) , with win7 enterprise, is joined to the local domain(with DHCP and DNS server configured) and cannot access PC-A (the same as PC-C) . In local domain a DHCP server provides ip addresses in the same class of other pc in the lan not yet joined.

Hoping i was clear and provided the necessary information.
Can you help me to resolve this problem?
Thank you.

There are several threads on this subject already, but none of them helped.

This folder was created on vista so there shouldn't be that problem with transfering from xp that i've read about. I remember locking the folder manually somehow, I just cant get it to unlock.

The UAC is disabled both from the control panel and through msconfig's panel.

Hi folks,
First, yes I have searched the forum and looked at other threads with the same error message but haven't found anything that helps. If I've missed something relevant please let me know.

System
Acer Aspire all in one
Win 7 Home premium 64 bit SP1

Problem description.
I am re-deploying a computer. I created a new admin user, then deleted all existing users. After a lot of sweat I found out about and applied the hotfix for KB article 2866086 and now all but the original admin users profile directories stay deleted!!!

However I still can't get rid of the original admin user's files. I have gone through the change ownership routine and turned UAC off but all that has done is that now when I log in as the new admin and try to delete the files I am told that I need permission from the login I'm currently using!!!

To add to my confusion, properties shows the root directory (C:Users/Old admin name) as containing > 7000 files and > 1000 folders. It is also shown with a lock symbol on the root folder although it is not shared. If there was a file equivalent in Windows for 'kill -9' I would have nuked the bloody thing.

I've even tried explaining that if it doesn't behave I'll re-program it with an axe, but Win 7 developers obviously haven't read The Hitchhikers Guide.

Short of reinstalling the OS from scratch has anyone got any useful suggestions?

Thanks in anticipation

Answer:Don't have permission to access folder - yet again

When I've run into stubborn cases I have booted to a Linux LiveCD or LiveDVD and deleted from within its file manager. Booting Windows next may give some squacks but running a reputable Registry cleaner helps. Many say not to use such a program but I've had no problems doing so. I don't use it until nothing else works and never as a routine thing.
