Atheros AR5B97 driver not letting me connect to wireless

Question: Atheros AR5B97 driver not letting me connect to wireless

So I have 2 images from the Device manager.
The driver has a Yellow caution sign with "!" inside it.

My issues:
Cannot Connect to wireless, But can connect via Ethernet Cable.

My troubleshooter said the drive couldn't start, and that I needed a Wireless Cable to plugin to the computer.

This is my school computer, my help desk helped before but they are out of office because its summer break.

Also 2 things.
I tried disabling my Bluetooth High Speed, it did nothing.
I do not know if this is the right thread, because this is my first post, if there is anymore information you need to know please contact me.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Atheros AR5B97 driver not letting me connect to wireless

Hi and welcome to the boards.

How old is this system? Sometimes the wireless card will fail and a new one can be installed.

However, you can upload and install the latest wireless network driver for your system via ethernet cable. Sometimes that is all you need. If it is a built system like a Dell then go to the manufacture's website if this was a system that was built by yourself or someone else then go to the motherboard's website.

Please keep us updated.

So I've just reinstalled Windows 7 ultimate (64-bit) and I've tried to get all my drivers working and all however, the only driver that is still not working is the Atheros AR5B97 Wireless Driver. I have tried to install it many times however I get a message saying "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)" I would appreciate it alot if anyone could help me solve this problem. I've been stuck with this for weeks. Thanks

Ok, guys I need some help. My laptop is an Acer Aspire 1830T the other day I installed some Windows 7 updates and when my computer restarted I didn't have Wifi, and an Ethernet connection was not even working. So I went through a bunch of things:

I started by uninstalling the Windows updates that installed, trying to re-install drivers. The Ethernet started working right away when I installed the corresponding driver, however I could never get the WiFi working after trying multiple drivers from the system disk which had Wifi in the title. I then went ahead an uninstalled everything installed that day to start fresh in case there were conflicts and had the computer search the disk for the driver. I now get the following error message and have no idea what do to from here. (Note the computer had me send some error message to MS which it said it doesn't have an answer for, but there might be one in the future.... and I went ahead and installed the latest updates, since it seems maybe that wasn't the problem afterall since uninstalling didn't fix the problem?) I considerate myself computer friendly but no expert, please advise. Thanks

Hello, I have a problem with my internet (still). I tried asking you here for help earlier but I didn't get any help so I'm trying again.

I bought a new Laptop with Windows 7, it's an Acer Aspire 7741G, but ever since I started it up the internet has not been working correctly. I only get 1-2 signalbars out of 5-6, no matter how close to the router I am, and those 2 bars is only enough to get my internet on this computer up in like 50kb/s when downloading.

Where I live we have several computers, macs, PS3s, and they have never had any problems connecting to our internet, apart from this one.

I've tried most things on my computer to get it to work, but nothing has done the trick yet.

When I troubleshoot the connection it says "problem with the adapter or access point - fixed" almost everytime, and after doing the troubleshoot the internet goes to max speed (5-6 bars) for about 10 seconds before dropping down low again.

I have tried to uninstalled my antivirus/firewall, I have changed the powersettings, I have tried mostly everything that I have found on forums all around, but nothing has worked yet.

Would appreciate some help

I'm currently using HP DV7-7015CA on windows 8.1
it came with Intel N-2230 wireless/bluetooth chip, but it was a pain in the ass and had lots of connection problems
so I replaced the with a Atheros AR5B97 wireless/bluetooth chip from my older laptop

the problem I have now is that the bluetooth isn't detected/working on my HP
can anyone spare some tips to solve this?

EDIT:
I've already tried all the possible drivers from ATHEROS drivers for Microsoft Windows (Atheros?????)
and it's still not working
I've also tried atheros bluetooth manager driver from acer (the brand of my old laptop)
but it didn't support win8, so it wouldn't install
I've also tried atheros bluetooth driver from sony, but it mad absolutely no difference

EDIT2:
I've concluded that I DO infact have the driver, I just can't seem to enable it
when I put the atheros chip back in acer, it also doesn't show bluetooth in device manager, but when i press the wireless hotkey (fn+F3), on the acer, and switch bluetooth to on thru the utility, bluetooth popped up in device manager
so i guess the question now is how do I enable the bluetooth on my HP?

So I have netgear WG111 wireless usb adapter and my computer is windows vista. My internet worked perfectly fine until it crashed and I had to restore windows vista. After that I've installed my wireless again but now it says I got 80% signal but I still can't connect to the internet.
At the moment I'm on my other computer,so don't say ''you're already on internet''
I've tried almost everything.
I've re-installed it.
Reset router.
Plugged in adapter in and out
etc
It's really annoying now.
And my internet worked perfectly fine before recovery.

Hey guys.

I am having a problem with a friends computer, I have had some experience fixing problems in the past with computers but i can not figure this one out. This computer has a Atheros AR5b91 wireless card in it, it will connect to the internet when I have a Ethernet cable plugged in but not wireless. It is showing I am connected and have an excellent signal but will not connect to the internet. If you can help it will be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Can not connect to the internet using Atheros Wireless card

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (including Radar, Connection and Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Also show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

It is actually already (Should be) installed. It is a service that you have to turn on. It is called "Wireless Zero Configuration."This link should suffice with directions on setting it up:http://www.home-network-help.com/wireless-zero-configuration.htmlThis other link may be helpful:http://tech.ifelix.net/2007.htmlAfter you turn the server on, look at the tray (near the clock at the bottom right), and you should see a little connection sign. Make sure you check the security of the network, you may have to change the security type to get in.Post if you need more help.

Answer:G70-70 - Error when installing Wireless LAN driver (Atheros,Broadcom)

hi Robert,

Welcome to the Forums

The "No Appropriate Driver to be installed" error usually pops up if the installer can't find the specific hardware ID(s) to install the necessary drivers. This may happen if you have a different type of wireless adapter on your system.

Can you try to install this driver and observe:
WLAN Driver (Atheros, Realtek, Broadcom, Intel) for Windows 7 (64-bit) - Lenovo G70-70

If you still get the "No Appropriate Driver to be installed" error, can you try to follow this guide on how to identify the wireless card manufacturer (or post the hardware ID here). and observe.

 - Sample image (Intel Wireless 7260 hardware ID)

Edit:

Let me know how it goes.

I have been searching for a while to fix the issue for my Toshiba laptop that has a 5006x wifi built in. I downgraded to XP for the performance gains from Vista and have been using a 5.x driver flawlessly until I installed sp3. OMG I couldn't stay connected to the internet for more than 5 minutes on my wireless router. My wife's wireless card (airlink101) didn't burp with sp3. It actually seemed to connect better. Well, I installed and uninstalled so many drivers and figured I'd have to uninstall sp3 instead. Then I came across this 1. It WORKS! Just go to device manager and update the driver to this 1. You won't be dissapointed.

I just reformatted my 2 yr old Toshiba Satellite laptop with XP. It originally had Vista but I've been running XP on it for the last year. When I first loaded up XP a year ago, it took days of searching on the internet to find the driver but I eventually found it for free.

I spent hours yesterday looking for the driver and most links end up in an endless loop, to a pay site or to the useless Atheros website itself that offers no driver download support.

So many of the links that claim to offer the driver for this Atheros AR5001X don't really have the driver. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd really like to get my wireless card up and running again. Thank you.

Hello,

I've been having intermittent disconnection issues with my wireless card, DWA-552. After having thoroughly researched on the subject, the conclusion drawn by many people is that dlink's drivers are inappropriate for the card. It was suggested to install the Atheros driver instead, which i proceeded to do. Much to my confusion, when i downloaded the AR5008 10.0.0.75 driver, i found no .exe file to easily setup the driver.

http://www.atheros.cz/atheros-wireless-download.php?chipset=26&system=6

I proceeded to do the following:

1) Uninstall my crappy DLink driver through control panel
2) Went on Device Manager and scanned for hardware changes
3) Network Controller appears
4) I right click on network controller and try to manually update the driver
5) This window appears: http://imgur.com/GkTza

I'm stuck there. Help! I've tried following some guides about the issue but nothing works so far and it's a pretty daunting task since i need to reinstall my dlink driver everytime i want to reconnect to the internet for more information.

Thank you

Hi!

I'm currently using Win8 Pro x64.
I'm not able to connect to my company's wireless network, and I came across a possible solution that proposed rolling back to an earlier driver version 9.2.0.419.
Trouble is, I'm not able to install this older driver because Win8 insists that my current driver is up to date. This happens even if I select "delete the driver" while uninstalling the currently installed driver.

Could anyone help me out with this? Thanks!

Hello everyone.
My notebook would not complete installation of Windows 10 due to athwbx.sys problem. BSOD.

This is a driver file found in Windows 8 for the Atheros Wireless Network hardware.
However I am updating from Windows 7 and this file is not part of the drivers required for this hardware in Windows 7. So I cannot install it.
However windows 10 expects to see it I believe. as it does a BSOD on login after upgrading to Windows 10 calling an exception due to Athwbx.sys and will just not allow me to log in. I can get to safe mode though.
I also managed to roll back to Win 7.

Question is how do I get around this. Atheros hardware is AR9002WB. I am using the latest Win7 driver possible for this hardware.
Any ideas?

Steve

What is your current date for the driver? To find the current date:
1. Click Start Menu
2. Right Click My Computer/Computer
3. Click Manage
4. Click Device Manager from the list on the left
5. Expand Network adapters
6. Right click on the Atheros adapter and click Properties
7. Go to the Driver tab and check the date

Hey guys,

After reading a few other posts about similar topics, I thought that I'd try to create my own thread.

I just bought a Samsung laptop, Windows 7 i3 core processor, 6GB ram, with an atheros ar9485wb-eg wireless network adapter.

I have seen similar threads indicating the failure of this particular wireless network adapter, and another guy took his laptop back to the store to exchange it for another one.

Is this a SAMSUNG issue? The laptop is nice in all other aspects, however when playing games especially the problem is very clear.

When playing LOL, I've been getting "Attempting to reconnect" quite often, when playing Starcraft II, same problem, when I'm browsing the internet.. yep same deal... I've searched for driver updates, nothing has been found.

Should I just return the laptop? This seems like such a hassle for a brand new computer to be having such problems.

I have another ACER laptop which is quite inferior in comparison, however it always has a 5 bar connection, whereas the new SAMSUNG has 2 or 3 at best.

Hope someone out there is having a similar problem and has found a solution! Other than going back to the store and trying to explain the problem with an under-trained sales clerk at Futureshop who will most likely give me a VERY hard time...

Thanks in advance anyone that can help, I'm getting desperate...

Answer:atheros ar9485wb-eg wireless driver on SAMSUNG LAPTOP not working

I have an Atheros AR9485 on my desktop board (not sure about any special designations). Those problems don't seem to be appearing with it.

Can I assume Samsung loaded the drivers for the device? In Device Manager, under the properties, Driver tab, Driver Details, I show it using athrx.sys and vwifibus.sys drivers, just so you can compare, since yours may be different.

I suppose there could be a situation with the antenna or the way it is implemented in the Samsung.. Can you access the device and check the antenna connections? Are you showing good signal strength

I use Windows XP SP2.  My wireless LAN adaptor driver was old (ver 3.1.102.23) and did not support WPA2 protocol so I updated it from the Lenovo site using this driver download:   Windows XP, 2000  06 Oct 2009  v7.6.1.260b Immediately afterward  on IBM Access Connections screen, the "Enable wireless radio" menu item no longer would turn the radio on.  (I did manage to turn the radio on using Device Manager properties Advanced tab Radio On/Off setting.)  Also on that screen, I could no longer see any wireless networks in the "Find wireless networks" button. So, before I do more damage, any thoughts?  Some questions occur to me, not sure if any of them is useful? 1.  Since I went directly to Lenovo to download the driver, is the Windows driver Rollback feature likely to work or just to make things worse?  (I never heard of  Rollback before today.) 2.  I could find no good help poking around Lenovo documentation.  Atheros seems even less helpful. 3.  Has anyone successfully installed a driver lately on Thinkpad X series for this Atheros WLAN adaptor for Win XP? 4.  Although I think it's a waste of time, I did try the Windows setup a wireless network wizard for the device.  No luck there yet, either. Have to reboot now, will update if anything new shows up afterward...

Answer:Wireless fails after Lenovo driver update (X40 23718EU; Atheros 11b/g Mini PCI)

A different thread gave me a clue that led to a solution.  Someone mentioned that w/Lenovo drivers it is sometimes necessary to go to the unpacked driver directory (in this case, c:\drivers\win\wllanath) and run the setup program found there. I had run this program before, but automatically as part of the driver download/install process. This time when I ran setup, I chose to ignore and remove all values of former driver installation.  The first time through it today, I had chosen to keep the old installation values. After the reboot Windows went to install the "new" hardware. At one place it went into installing what it called the "ethernet controller".  This substep failed until I gave it a directory in which to look for the software - in my case it was the c:\drivers\win\wllanath\WinXP_2K directory. Now the Windows wireless admin tool works, it finds networks and has connected to our home net.  But the IBM Access Connections tool I've used for 5 years no longer works.  No big loss, although I am curious why.

I have windows vista home premium. Been using att uverse for about a year. last couple of months i've been experiencing connectivity problems on this computer. (all other devices connected to the wireless (another pc, wireless devices such as ipod itouch, cable tv) work fine. I would troubleshoot and it would give the message: Wireless network adapater atheros ar5007UG is experiencing driver or hardware related issues.

I checked and I do have the latest driver installed.

Sometimes computer connects and other times no and its become more frequent. in fact I have to restart the computer numerous times in order for it to work.

There are days I just stop trying after 5 restarts. I hope that doesn't damage the computer.

My wifi stops working on my "Idea Center 700-25ish" computer when you upgrade the "Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4" network adapter driver to the lastest driver version "12.0.0.312" dated "5/23/17".  This happens on either a direct driver download from the Lenovo support site or doing a windows upgrade to the "Fall Creator's Update" on windows 10.  The only way I found to work around it is to back out of the upgrade.  Since Microsoft is no longer supporting my version of windows 10, I had to reinstall the "Fall Creator's Update" and start using an Ethernet cable to access the internet.  My Wifi is still not working.  Does anyone know how to fix the Wifi problem?

Hi everyone.

This past weekend I went out of town and took my Windows 7 laptop with me -- since I returned home, it has been unable to connect to my wireless network. Other devices in my home connect to the network just fine, and the problem laptop has always been fine until now. My network card is an Atheros AR9285, and I'm attempting to connect to a Medialink router with WPA password protection and AES encryption.

My wireless network icon in the task bar has a yellow sign with an exclamation point in it. It says "No Internet access."

I have tried:

-rebooting the computer
-unplugging and restarting the modem and router
-going to the command prompt and renewing my IP address with the command IPCONFIG/RENEW

None of this works.

Like I said, all other devices in my house connect to the wireless network with no problem. It's just this one laptop. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Answer:Windows 7 laptop with Atheros AR9285 network card can't connect to wireless network

Three things to try ...

If you have McAfee please see the sticky thread at the top of this (Networking) forum.

Disable encryption on the router and try to connect. If successful you can probably re-enable encryption and reconnect.

Revert to a System Restore Point before the weekend.

I am having great difficulty trying to find the correct driver for my Thinkpad x40.  I've tried all the choices on the Lenovo site for the x40 but all of them still don't show up under the Network Adapter list in the Device Manager.  The Ethernet driver worked with no problem. The Network Controler under Other Devices continually displays with the big yellow question mark after installation of the Setup.exe file. I recently reformatted my laptop with a copy of Windows XP, not the one that came with the laptop.  I don't have any of the orignial software unfortunately.  After the installation I began the process of installing all of the drivers.  The only one that does not work is the Wireless driver.  Before I reformatted the hard drive I had no issues with wireless so it's hard to believe that the card could have gotten damaged.   Do you think reformatting the OS would damage the wireless card? Anyway, I am at my end of my rope and don't know what else to do?  Can anyone help me please?

Answer:Thinkpad x40 Wireless Driver will not connect with wireless card

Welcome to the forum! The "network controller" is your missing wireless card...and I'm going to take a stab in the dark that it's an Intel 2200BG:http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/6hwc05ww.zipAfter downloading it, you might have to go into C>Drivers>Win>Wlanint and run the setup file from there. What's the 7-character model number of your ThinkPad, BTW?

What exactly is the problem? Go to either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 in you're browser. Login with "admin" and password "password".

Looking at this thread posted about 4 years ago, I see that I'm not the only one having this problem. I'm trying to fix my parents' desktop computer and it can no longer get on the internet. I have a wired connection and in the network list, there is only the option of Network 2.

I noticed that I'm not the only one having this problem. Hopefully, someone has come up with a solution to this problem

I'm currently living in an apartment on my school's campus and I'm using their network for all my internet needs and such. One of my roommates recently bought a new Samsung Smart TV ModelN59D8000F. The wireless here sucks so we've been hooking the ethernet up to the tv for internet access. It was working fine at first, but then all options on the tv requiring a network shut down. Now, when we first arrive at school our laptops are put into a remediation mode to make sure we have virus protection and all that good stuff, and I believe that might be what is happening with the tv's internet access. Not exactly sure, can anybody help and tell me what I should do?
I would really appreciate it!
TL;DR Tv is capable for internet access but network wont let it connect

Hello, a few months ago I had what I believe to be a rootkit which I successfully got rid of thanks to members of this forum. However since then, for some reason I can't connect to certain webpages. When I try to go on, for example, Gamespot, there is a white screen for about a minute telling me it is loading, and then it says something like 'the webpage timed out'. This happens to me with about a 1/4 of the websites I visit and its become a real pain. The strange thing is, if I run these websites through a proxy, they usually work fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I thought this was malware, but Ried over on the Security forum helped me as much as he could and found no infections. Ried was awesome, he got my java back up and running when I couldn't install it. So, it seems that this is a problem with my vpn set-up, but I've been using my vpn for around six years to work from home and have never had any issue like this... help!!

The VPN is through a program called "Barracuda Networks, Inc - SSL VPN 380". http://www.barracudanetworks.com/ns/support/

When I log into the vpn connection I get the following odd error message (screenshot embedded below). This same error message started showing before I tried to uninstall Java about a week ago-- and was UNable to reinstall it, prompting me to initially post in TSF's security forum about a week ago.

Answer:VPN/Java not letting me connect to my remote desktop!

I am presuming Barracuda VPN is a Java application and I presume it didn't work when Java didn't work. So things you can try:
1. Make sure your date and time are correct on your PC.
2. Goto "Control Panel" -> "JAVA". Click "settings" (Temporary Internet Files Section) and then "Delete Files" -> Select both options and click "ok"
3. From what I read here:
http://www.barracudanetworks.com/ns/...0160000000Haeq
you have to upload a certificate when installing the Barracuda VPN so maybe you should install the certificate on your computer again?
You can see your installed trusted certificates by going to "Control Panel" -> "Java" -> "Security" tab -> and clicking on "Certificates"
4. Reinstall Barracuda VPN application
5. Update Java to version 6 update 21 if you haven't already

Greatings.. I am having trouble accessing the internet, and i believe that it is the modem, or the router having communacation problems with the modem for these following reasons and here is what i have tried to get my internet up and running again...I have looked through the router and all the settings are correct just as i had set them up, so i determined that was not the problem i have refreshed the DHCP and renewed it, but still no luck, so after reading up on network troubleshooting for about an hour and a half I hadn't found any useful information except isolating the branches from the phone line and pluging the phone line directly into the router..but still no luck,(i have it set up through a filter now) after several hours of pacing and hair pulling i came to a desperate solution letting the modem and router sit and take a break..so in a couple hours later i turned both of them on and i got a symptom finally the Power led would flash red and rarley green, but after hoping and resetting the router and modem i had gotten another symptom the Dsl led was flashing green in a steady pattern and after about a minute it turned green and then the internet light turned green and flashes in 10 second intervals... and that is where i am now.. without internet so any help would be greatly welcomed and appreciated thank you

I have gone back to a couple of restore points but still no luck. When I log into the settings for my modem I do a test to test the basic settings and the first part works fine but when it then trys to take me to the page on Netgears website to say that it has been successful it fails to load the page.I have disabled my firewall but still no joy. However, I can access the internet on my pc if I first open the vpn(?) connection that I use to access my work pc. (This sounds quite weird to me!)I have reset my modem, re-entered all of the settings, changed the DSL filter and the phone cable and the lights are on on the modem that should be but I just can't crack it.Is there anyone out there that can help or has had the same problem?

So I think I have a virus attached to ping.exe . Earlier today Avast antivirus blocked like 27 urls from it and it follows the typical ping.exe virus in redirecting websearches and poping up random fake antivirus crap. I had tried to get rid of it using avast and malware bytes and I thought I had succeeded. Then my brother decides its still busted and downloader a program with a red circle and a white panther as the icon. I forget what the program is called but I remember a friend using it for me before and telling me to never ever use it unless with professional guidance, so I told my brother to get rid of it and not use it and I'm not quite sure what happened next but he said it was fine and went home. So I turn on my computer and now I can't connect to the internet. Troubleshooting says that Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy setting. I went into Internet Options and made sure that No proxy was selected for both IE and Firefox and my computers Internet Options. I tried to reset using netsh winsock reset and
netsh int ipv4 reset in my comand prompt but neither one worked. So then I try to restore my computer but ooooh look at that. No restore points work. They all end up saying system restore failed to extract the file (C:\Windows\$NtUninstallKB14555$\168385351) when it reboots. So I think this might be a virus still hanging around but malware bytes and avast can't find it. I'm at a loss at what to do. My GMER hijackthis and... Read more

The wireless adapter works fine in 11G but not in 11N with new DLink router.

The laptop is an Aspire 4530 running Vista Home Premium. The driver version for the adapter is 7.6.1.204. This is the lastest driver. There are no apparent BIOS configuration parameters for the AR5B91.

Tests show that wireless G operates at about 1.3 Mbps. This is well below the 1.9 Mbps of the last cheaper DLink that reset every 2 minutes.

The router is a DLink DIR 615, just new out of the box.
The hardware version is C1 and the firmware version is V3.01. This is the latest firmware for this hardware version.
This router holds a stable wireless connection.

The wireless (router) settings are:
Wireless network name: set, as is the Pre-Shared key
Mode: 802.11n only
Autochannel scan: enabled.
Channel width: Auto 20/40 MHz (also tried at 20 MHz as well)
Visibility Status: visible.
Security Mode: WPA-Personnal
WPA-Mode: WPA Only
Cypher Type: TKIP
Group Key Update Interval: 7200
Connections are set for DHCP.

Hello, hope someone can help with this!

I've just installed from fresh Windows 7 Professional (32 bit) on an eMachines 355. It previously had Windows 7 Starter edition installed and everything worked okay. However, now I'm having problems getting the wireless adaptor working.

It has an Atheros AR5B95 adapter in it and I've tried pretty much every version of the driver I can find online, with varying degrees of success. The best I've got is with the latest 10.0.0.285 version, which lets me connect wirelessly the first time the computer is switched on, but then hangs up after around 5 minutes and won't let me connect again.

All wireless networks available are display correctly, but on clicking on the one I want it (very quickly) pops up with "Windows was unable to connect...".

The only trend I can see for when it will connect is when the computer is at its coldest it lets me connect for longest. I.e., first thing this morning after it had been off all night, it connect for about 5 minutes. After leaving it for 2 hours, it connected for about 1 minute. If I've been using it and then restart it, it won't connect or if it does will only be for a few seconds. This makes me question whether it's an overheating problem (though I just cleaned the fan and then didn't help at all).

Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Sam

Hi all!

I have a fujitsu notebook with a atheros wireless 5005g inegrated card. To make a long story short; when looking for wireless networks with the standard vista "wireless manager" I see full signal strength before connecting. After connecting it goes down to 2 (out of 6) levels. When using another computer connected to the same router, it receives full speed, both before and after connection. My wireless connection also disconnects alot, with a waiting periode of 30 seks or so before I`m able to reconnect.

I`ve seen similar problems (and solutions) for Linux users, but this does not help an average computer skilled guy like me.

My router is a Thomson Speedtouch 546i set up with wep security. (also tried Wpa etc)

appreciate all help I can get.

thnx

Answer:Low wireless signal with Atheros wireless 5005g

Hi Chrisdue,

To make a better analysis of your problem :
- does that other computer also run vista?
- which connection is lost ? to the router or to the internet?
- what is the driver you use for your wireless adapter? has it been signed ? did you look if any updates are available for the wireless card driver?

If internet connectivity is lost, I think upgrading the firmware of your router might be a good option.
If it's the connectivity to the router only we might need the information above to do a better troubleshooting.

Kind regards,
Stumpy

I recently moved to Germany and just bought a T510 there, with Win 7 Pro.I set up the OS in English and downloaded all the drivers from the Irish Lenovo website because I don't have much German. Now I find that I can't connect to my German in-laws wireless router because it is broadcasting on channel 48 at 5 GHz and we don't use that channel in Ireland.I uninstalled my wireless driver and reinstalled the same one from the German Lenovo website, assuming that it would be preset to detect all German wifi channels. It is not working though. My German wireless card will not pick up German wireless channels. I have found lots of advice on changing the channel the router broadcasts on but I am not interested in that as it is not my router and I don't want to mess it up. Surely there is some way to fix the registry files to open all channels or something along those lines. I would really appreciate any help, I've been trying to fix this for ages and nothing is working.

Answer:How do I edit my wireless driver to connect to other channels?

Channel 48? US WiFi uses channels 1-11. European spec allows for channels 1-14.I'm guessing your in-laws' router is sitting up at channel 12 or higher. I don't think you'll be able to change your computer's adapter so the only real choice is a change at the router. Using channels 5,8 or 11 should not represent a problem to you or your in-laws and their machine should autoselct and connect to the new router configuration with no problem. I think the channel assignments are hard coded in hardware and you're not going to add channels via a driver update. Get a copy of netstumbler from http://www.netstumbler.com/downloads/ and get a more accurate picture of what frequency your in-laws' router is really operating at.

Hello,I use the V3-572 with the WLAN /BT Atheros AR5BWB222 Chipset. I already installed the newest drivers from the Acer HP but still:I cannot connect to my 5GHz Network. 2.4GHz works, 5GHz just states : Connection not possible. Since I have 3 other devices connectet to my Lancom-AP via 5GHz, I know the Acer V3 is to blame. What to do? I use WPA2 / AES encryption @ 5GHz and I bet the Atheros chipset canīt handle that. @2,4GHz I use mixed mode WPA1/2 TKIP/AES, which the atheros can handle. But I refuse to believe that in 2014 a chipset is unable to handle WPA2/AES @5GHz....  PS: I even tried the "unofficial" drivers v. 10.0.0.287, but the problem remains.

We are seeing issues where the AR5007 will connect to the router but not allow network/interent access
If you removed the wireless security from the router - it should connect and work OK like that

By updating the adapter - goto device manager - right click on the adapter and update driver - that has helped fix the issue in the past

would you post the following information here

{ipconfig /all}
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here
We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results here

I've heard that AR5007 has troubles connecting to NetGear, but it's strange that I haven't had this problem until now. Maybe I've never needed to connect to a NetGear router before, but regardless.... Wirelessly, it connects to the router but not to the internet. Atheros Wireless Adapter - AR5007EG & AR5007

Over the last couple of years we have been seeing a lot of problems with the above adapters, mainly concerning WPA and WPA2 encryption and mainly on windows Vista.
We have seen just a couple of issues on other windows operating system, windows XP and windows 7.

Windows XP:- A driver update has resolved the issue
Windows 7 :- No conclusive results for a fix

The wireless adapter gets an IP configuration, and shows as connected, but communication is non-existent or sporadic.

Log into the Router and disable the wireless security and see if you are now able to connect to the internet and surf OK.

Fujitsu-Siemens Scenic T i810 / Windows 2000

Ran Windows update. Offered three hardware updates, one for a HP monitor, one for the wireless card (Ralink RT2500?), and one for the printer. Accepted all three. Installation of printer driver update failed, I think because once the wireless card driver update installed, the PC lost access to the network.

Now the PC is unable to access the internet. The Card appears to be working OK. The wireless hub can see the PC (the ISP - BT Home Hub, Hub Manager application installed on my MacBook shows the Fujisu-Siemens PC).

When I use the ISP software on the Fujitsu-Siemens PC (BT Wireless Connection Manager) to connect to the hub, I get a
"local area 3 network cable unplugged"
error message.

Can someone please tell me how I can undue my muppetry?

Answer:Win 2000, updated Wireless driver, now cannot connect to internet.

Go directly to the Fujitsu site and download the wireless drivers there, uninstall the Windows supplied one and install the correct driver.

NEVER let Windows Update supply hardware drivers, they get it wrong far too often!

Hi! I am working on an Emachine E725 which is having problems connecting to the internet wirelessly. At first the device manager was saying the Broadcom 802.11g network adapter driver was not updated and was giving me a code 10, saying the device can not start. I downloaded the correct driver and for a minute it seemed to be working fine but still would not connect to the internet. Now it is back to saying the device cannot start and giving the code 10 again. I tried to update the driver again and it says the driver is up to date so I'm really confused on the problem! Has anyone had this problem or know what I'm doing wrong? Thank you in advance for taking time to help!!

Answer:Still can't get wireless to connect after downloading correct driver for eMachine?

List any Problem Devices

Click Start->Run, enter: msinfo32. Click the + sign next to Components to expand it
Click Problem Devices. Anything appear?
If yes, click on it, Ctrl-A to select all, Ctrl-C to copy it, Ctrl-V to paste into next post
On the other hand, if no devices are listed, tell me so
Generate and attach a DirectX report

Click Start->Run, enter dxdiag and click OK

I have a AMD Radeon HD 6800 series video driver. I can startup Windows in safe mode, but not in normal mode. There is nothing after the black screen with Windows is starting. If I disable the video driver, I can start up in normal mode. There seems to be rows of black dots during the BIOS screens. Also, the graphics seem distorted in both safe mode and normal mode when the video driver has been disabled. My question is this a hardware problem or a software problem? Are there any solutions to startup in normal mode with the video driver enabled? I will most likely reformat if there are no other options.

Answer:Video driver not letting me start up in normal mode?

Safe Mode uses a native graphics driver, it doesn't use the Radeon driver, this is why the image looks like the resolution is incorrect.

Is this graphics integrated?  If it is open the Device Manager and open Display adapters, then right click on the Radeon driver and select Uninstall.  Restart the computer and the installation wizard will install a new driver.

If this is a dedicated card you will need to go to the computer's manufacturer and download the graphics driver from there.

In cases like this it is always helpful if you post the make and model of this computer.

Question: Atheros Driver

I am running Vista 64 bit on my laptop.

I have "Atheros Driver Installation Program" on my list of programs, showing an install date of 8/7/09. I do not recall installing this program. Can anyone tell me if this was part of an auto update from Microsoft?

My computer has started to run slow the last few day I am wondering if this is why. Am I safe to remove this to see if that is where my problem is?

Recently I decided to update to the most recent Atheros app/driver, 5.0.0.107. I don't really see any difference in the little app that comes with but my connection speeds have really dropped. I was able to get a fairly constant 108 send or rec'v. Now I'm at rec'v of 72 and send is at 24. The send bounces around speed wise.

I wish I had paid more attention to the version I had installed before as the speeds were quite consistent. Anyone have any recommendations for a version they have had good look with.

This is with the Atheros 5211x.

Hi All

Was a bit naughty tried to install Connectify to my company pc so I could get wifi on my phone. It did not work and I started getting every 2 seconds "QUALCOMM Atheros Direct has stopped working" - I unistalled Connectify and no joy. I am using windows 7

I cannot find a Qualcomm adapter just the Dell one - which for some reason has a #2 next to it. I tried to find updated drivers but all the forums that have links to the Qualcomm adapters lead to a page that no longer exists - and no where on the qualcomm atheros site can I find drivers.

I tried to redownload the dell drivers for my adapter and resinstalled them - no joy.

I have wifi and it seems to work fine - just this stupid error box keeps popping up.

I am desperate as IT do not know I have admin rights on my PC and I am worried I caused the issue trying to install connectify.

How can I resolve this Qualcomm Atheros direct has stopped working problem?

thanks

Answer:Installed connectify now getting Qualcomm Atheros Direct connect error

Do a System Restore to before you did this, that should fix it.

hi Ivan917,

    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

 1. You can try Powering off your Router/Modem then Delete the saved network on your computer
      - turn on your router/Modem and Try Reconnecting

 2. If you can Change the security type of your Router, Set it to Open first and try to reconnect, If it connected ok with that then Try other Security type. you can check here on how to get to the options.

3. Try booting in Safemode with networking then Try connecting from there.

Hope this helps,

Hello there I am having a problem with my ethernet drivers.

I have an Asus P5Q SE motherboard and recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and since doing so I have been having a lot of internet connectivity problems.

I keep randomly losing connection to the internet, I looked into it and it was driver related, so I researched the issue in great detail and found others had experienced it yet no one had a solution, I looked for the most appropriate Ethernet drivers on the internet on another computer of mine and found that people had experienced the most success with the Windows Vista Atheros Ethernet drivers which were for my motherboard (Asus P5Q SE) so I downloaded the Vista drivers and installed them and I was surprised to see that it worked I had internet access again my problem was solved and I thought nothing more of it, but when I came to use my pc again I had no internet access right from start-up, this annoyed me quite a bit. I then went into the control panel and uninstalled the Vista Atheros drivers to find upon doing so Windows 7 had found the appropriate drivers and automatically installed them, I had the internet back again I figured it had solved itself, however again when I came to use my computer no internet from start-up, I still had the Vista drivers on my desktop so i simply re-installed them and again my internet started to work, but I must constantly install and uninstall these drivers every time I log onto my Windows 7 computer this means they mu... the atheros wireless card shows a full signal but when clicked on does not show the wireless network but states 'no link' and 'not associated'. This is in an Acer Travelmate 2420 running windows xp sp3 media edition. I have downloaded and installed the latest driver but can find no way of altering its status. I wonder if a service needed is disabled. I have made sure that the wireless service is on automatic and started. Can anyone suggest how to get this going?

Answer:atheros wireless card not associated

It probably means that the computer can see the wireless network, but does not have permission to join it.
Re-run the wireless network wizard in the control panel, and try to reconnect to the network. It should then prompt you for the security password for your network. Once that has been correctly entered you should be able to associate with the router.

Basically, my problem is that my wireless adapter doesn't work. The adapter is under system specs on my page, Atheros 802.11 a/b/g/n Dualband Wireless Network Module. Device manager says the wireless adapter is working properly, and has the most recent driver. The adapter cannot, however, detect any wireless networks. My problem is almost the exact same as:

No networks

But I have different hardware and a different adapter. When I select troubleshoot, it tells me there might be a problem with the driver for the wireless network connection adapter. I am really confused, and had to grab my laptop to write this up. Thanks!

I have a D-Link DWA 552 Xtreme wireless adapter, and to be quite honest with you, It has been a real drag having that thing. MY MBP gets 22MBPS but my Gaming pc gets 2.3MBPS. I got the current driver running from D-Links website but its still causing the computer to crash and get a real crappy internet speed. I will open another thread with more information about this problem and more specific. But the real question is will a updated Atheros Wireless driver help? Does Atheros have anything to do with D link? I read this in a diffrent post, just want some clarification. Thanks!

Answer:Atheros Wireless Drivers?

Its probably due to the fact that desktops prefer hard wire (CAT5) over wireless due to the ammount of EMI (electro magnetic interference) produced by the higher voltage, current and overall power of the components inside and nearby (printers speaker etc). If your wifi card has a detachable antenna you may benefit from one (with or without GAIN) on a cable so you can position it on the desk away from most of the nasty EMI.

Takenote that you can't just replace the card with the same model number without complying with the indicated fru number. Doing so, will result to a error message at startup. This restriction is popularly called as the whitelist. An alternative to the desired wireless communication between your TV and your unit is to have ChromeCast. You might want to explore this since this is easier compared to the replacement of the wifi card.

I have Windows 7 64 bit home edition and this unit performed flawlessly. I had issues with the security software and uninstalled it, which was a nightmare. After that when ever I boot the device driver will not install. This creates a very long boot up and then a slow computer for at least 20 minutes.

When I boot up in safe mode it installs. I have had Microsoft support help in the past and the tech uninstalled the Atheros and tried another driver but that wasn't compatible. I am back to where I started. Also when you look at Atheros' device drivers they don't list my number for Windows 7, only Vista or earlier versions of Windows.

How do I find out what is blocking the installation in normal mode?
