Preferred Solution: msdos application not running

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Starting System Restore Tool from Command Prompt
1. Start your computer to Safe Mode with Command Prompt.

NOTE: You must log on as the administrator or a user that has administrator rights.
2. At the command prompt, type %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe, and then press ENTER.

At start I've started to get the following message: "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. Choose "close" to terminate the application" I have checked the start menu via "msconfig" and I cannot see this program listed. I have searched the program name with no results. I have loaded two games "need for speed underground 2" and "colin mcrae 04" recently otherwise there have been no changes. Which makes me suspect it's one of them causing the problem. Any idea what this program is there for? Where it came from and how do I get rid of it? (windows xp with sp2 installed)

I have been going through my collection of old DOS games and trying them on Windows ME and XP.Something strange seems to be going on with the Windows ME MSDOS Prompt. Programs keep telling me that EMS is not installed and that the game cannot run in the memory available. How do I turn on the EMS part of MSDOS Prompt? When I right-click on MSDOS Prompt and click Properties the Memory tab shows EMS with a blanked out section beneath it. ie. it is not saying Auto and a list of numbers like all the other sections.

Answer:MSDOS programs not running correctly EMS error

The games I am having trouble with play fine on my brother's Windows ME computer.Presumably one of the files that EMS relies on is corrupted on my computer. Is there any way of uninstalling and then reinstalling MSDOS Prompt from the Windows ME cdrom?Or could I just copy the system files from my brother's computer onto mine to fix it? If so, which files would I need?

I recently installed a new hard drive. My first hard drive is c:d:e:, and my other f:g:h:. I went into device manager (using safe mode in Windows 95) and deleted all the disk drive partitions. Dont ask why? And in trying to fix this problem deleted all my hard disk controllers also. Now PIIIx Bus Mastering PCI IDE controller has a resource conflict with the Standard IDE/ESDI hard disk controller. In the registry there is nothing wrong. Its all plug n play so i dont know what to do. I went back to safe mode and it showed primary and secondary controllers but the bus mastering still had exclamation point and all the partitioned disk drives were gone..... In trying to add new hardware I got error Msgsrv32 and Rundll32. I was able to add another Standard IDE/ESDI hard disk controller but it didnt do any good... My computer is an IBM Aptiva 2159 166mhz Windows95 4.00.950.a I also followed windows help in troubleshooting hardware conflicts and said basically it couldnt help me. Someone Please Help Me! I have been having a problem for the last several months with my computer that I believe started when my nephews tried to install a game on my computer. About 75% of the time when i boot my computer I get the message Compatibility-mode paging reduces overall system performance under the system properties performance tab. under that message both c and d drives are listed as running in ms dos compatibility mode file system. At the same time under the device manager tab i see that I have a yellow exclamation point over my primary IDE controller (dual fifo). when i have these error messages the entire system seems to run very slow but it always remains usable. Sometimes when I boot I get none of these errors and the system performs normally. I have searched and read many threads from the Tech Support Guy forums and I realize this is a difficult error to fix. I have checked my registry and have never found a "noide" value in it. Under the ios tab in regedit I see 3 items - (1) name: ab(default) data: (value not set) (2) name: 011/110start data: 00 (3) name: abStaticVxD data: "*IOS"
I have tried through system properties to uninstall my VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Controller and reboot to reinstall. This fixed the problem for the first boot but the errors still occur randomly on boot. I also uninstalled and reinstalled my sound card as that was the problem when the nephews were installing said game. Same problems on reboot. I tried changing my autoexec.bat to autoex... Read more

ou81234,

Take a look at Presario Desktops Specific Models System ROM Update #2 it claims
"Fixed UDMA support for some UDMA66 drives".

I was looking for Mother Board make/model or IDE controller driver.
Are your IDE Controller drivers Windows drivers?

If you can figure out the Mother Board make/ model you might find more drivers or answers.

Try Start/Run, type dxdiag, see if Direct X will list it. It will be listed under System Manufacter/Model.

Not sure what started this.
Customer is getting a message when he tries to open MYOB

"C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt"
The system file is not suitable for running MSDos and Microsoft Windows appliacations. Choose close to exit.

Tried this:
Copied C:\windows\repair\autoexec.nt to C:\windows\system32
Re-ran Application and was able to get in and everything looked ok.

Customer just called to say they are getting the same message.

FYI: WinXP Home.
Just ran latest spybot and adaware.
I'm going back and will get a HiJackThis log.

Any ideas.

Added: Found this in mskb http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;305521
Added: Did a search of this forum and found "Rollin Rog" already posted this KB Article in another thread (He's so good at finding these).

My issue is that I did replace the autoexec.nt file from the windows repair directory and it now has disappeared again.
Trying to determine what's happeneing here. As indicated above, I need to check out (hiJackThis) if something else running causing this.

FYI: Spybot did report a file conscorr.exe, which I didn't delete.

Hello ,

I have a application exe from my work that will only run and install on a 32 bit OS. I would like to use it on my W7 64 bit OS. I have tried right clicking on properties and then going to compatibility tab...then running it in XP or Vista mode none of them worked. I still get this error... this version of this file is not capable of running on a 64 bit OS. Is there anything else I can try? The exe ran fine with XP and Vista 32 bit.

Answer:Running a 32 bit application exe with 64 bit OS

What application is it?

most programs that will run on x32 and x64 operating systems usually have both install packages on the exe if it doesn't then you either need to get the x64 version or you are going to have to have to install a x32 version of xp or vista on another partion of your computer so you can at least use it some how.

I use JCreator to create my Java applications. I can run them within JCreator but I want to know how to run them on a computer that doesn't have JCreator. Any help? I tried searching for this but I couldn't find anything.

Answer:Running a Java Application

you have to make sure the system without JCreator is running the java virtual machine and then you use the java virtual machine on their system to run the classes for the program you've developed.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit.
I have a 16 bit application that I developed with Borland Turbo C++ on XP.
I have installed XP mode and reloaded Borland and my application, but when I try to run it, nothing appears to happen.
When I run it under the Borland Debugger I get the message:

An application has attempted to access the keyboard or mouse hardware as a 16 bit Windows application, which cannot be supported. This may cause the application to function incorrectly.

This comes after my latest reinstall of W7 after some very strange errors started cropping up.
This never happened in previous installs of XP Mode.
I have also installed my copy of XP SP3 using VirtualBox, and have got exactly the same message.

I originally saw this message when I installed the Borland software on W7 and tried to run it from there, but it has ALWAYS worked in XP Mode in the past.

What has changed?

Hello TechSpot

In Europe there is a new law requiring to make a special document for proffesional transactions called a DCA/DAE through the internet, instead of the paper document that has always been used.

So our government issues a USB Key with an application on it.
The problem is when i double click this application the computer loads (seemingly, goes slow, makes noise and mouse cursor change to thinking cursor) but nothing actually happens, no window, no error nothing in task manager, like i never clicked the app.

At our office we have 5 computers where 4 of them run windows 7. On one of these computers with windows 7, the USB key works perfectly fine, program runs and can issue the documents.

But take any other computer in the office and we get the above mentioned problem ! XP and Windows 7, no difference. either computer, or laptop, no difference.

Anyone has a good idea of what may cause this ?

Answer:USB application loading but not running

I have tried running it in Windows XP Compability mode as well as win 95, with and without admistrator rights. still no effect. is there anything i could do to get a better idea where the problem is coming from ?

Hi all,
yesterday i was performing some routing maintenance on my pc, and i noticed there was an evernt log showing an error of an application that was stored in the path. (Please note i didnt mistype VLC).
C:\Users\{myuser}\Appdata\roaming\LVC\lvc.exe
It was always giving me an error code 0x0000005. I am worried if this is some sort of virus.
when i checked with a windows defender and avg i got no virus. It was also using the visual basic command line script process when i checked task manager.
What else could i do to check out the problem?
Thanks

EDIT: I tried searching online, but i found no results

Answer:Unknown application running on my pc

Searching with Startpage shows one link to a fix for some virus and a couple of links to Garmin GPS software. Nothing else of substance.
Lycos found an article about an old Server 2000 bug and a Lee Van Clief screensaver.
I'd try every search engine you can think of until something makes sense.

I have a 16-bit application that I want to run...problem is I have 64-bit Windows 10 installed and it won't run it. I installed a trial of Windows 10 32-bit on a spare drive and can get it to work perfectly, but I don't want to run at 32-bit outside of this application. I have also tried running virtual machine/XP Mode, but I can't get it to span my two screens (i.e. limited to one monitor). I've also tried Dosbox, but resolution is horrible, and again limited to one screen.

Before I buy another Windows product key, wondering if there are any other solutions that I haven't thought of.

Also, if I do get a second copy of Windows I want to run it off a separate hard drive (i.e. "main" with Windows 64-bit and "spare" with Windows 32-bit). Other than going into the bios and changing the boot priority between the two, is there a way to bring up a selection screen when booting? Or even better, something similar to when you install the OS from disk, it will boot normally unless you press a key.

Answer:Running a 16 bit application in Windows 10

Virtualbox - and then install whatever OS you need on it.

That way.. you boot to your normal Windows 10. Then if you want to run that program, you just start up Virtualbox and it will load the OS on it in a VM and away you go.

Welcome to the forum.

Take memtest. Run for 8 passes and test each stick in a know good slot for an additional 6 passes.RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Quote:
The goal is to test all the RAM sticks and all the motherboard slots.

Check your motherboard manual to ensure the RAM sticks are in the recommended motherboard slots. Some motherboards have very specific slots required for the number of RAM sticks installed.

If you get errors, stop the test and continue with the next step.

1. Remove all but one stick of RAM from your computer (this will be RAM stick #1), and run Memtest86 again, for 7 passes.*Be sure to note the RAM stick, use a piece of tape with a number, and note the motherboard slot.
If this stick passes the test then go to step #3.

2. If RAM stick #1 has errors, repeat the test with RAM stick #2 in the same motherboard slot.*If RAM stick #2 passes, this indicates that RAM stick #1 may be bad. If you want to be absolutely sure, re-test RAM stick #1 in another known good slot.
*If RAM stick #2 has errors, this indicates another possible bad RAM stick, a possible motherboard slot failure or inadequate settings.
3. Test the next stick of RAM (stick #2) in the next motherboard slot.*If this RAM stick has errors repeat step #2 using a known good stick if possible, or another stick.
*If this RAM stick has no errors and both sticks failed in slot#1, test RAM stick #1 in this slot.
4. If you find a stick that passes the test, test it in all ... Read more

My application which is in Startup folder is not started after restarting the computer. I find some solutions on internet like
1. Hkey_Local_Machine\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Policies\ System\ Set EnableLUA to 0 (See at right side - By Default it is set to 1)
2. Set User Access Control settings to lowest level

When i do this settings, my application which is in start up folder, application runs when machine restarts every time.. But this setting inhibit the operation of some MS programs like MS-Edge, Photo-Viewer, Skype Video etc. Resetting to default "1" and restart PC would resolved it. Usually, you could just right click on the program .exe or it's shortcut and click on "Run as administrator".

Here are some other options in the tutorial below as well. Option Five or SIX could be good for this.

Run as Administrator - in Windows 8

Hope this helps,

i am kinda newbie to the 64 bit world and i am trying to buy a new laptop which is preloaded with 64bit version of windows vista home premium. but my question is can i run all the apps that i use now on the new machine.
like say i want to use firefox. so can i just go to firefox.com and download and run it. will it run properly? or i need some kind of special version of the software.

so can any of you help me with it before i buy the ladtop. thank you

Answer:Can you run all 32 bit application in a 64 bit system running vista?

That is a very good question. Hopefully my answer is just as good: yes. Everything should run just fine. I use firefox myself on a 64 bit and it works. All your programs should work just fine. Some may not work too well, and some have 64 bit forms, but 98% should work normally.

Thanks be to the computer gods for backwards compatibility!

Hi

I have Windows 10 v1703 and I would need that an application is always run with administrative privileges even when it is run by a user who has a Users's account.

So, how should I do this?

Thanks

Bye

Answer:Running always an application with administrative privileges

You may want to take a look at the following tutorial, It's designed to run a program at startup without triggering the UAC prompt but you should be able to create a shortcut for the user to run on demand

Create Elevated Shortcut without UAC prompt in Windows 10 Windows 10 Customization Tutorials

Any issues and you may be best posting in the actual tutorial to allow Shawn to take a look at when he's online

Hello, new and clueless user here.

Alright i played Artemis yesterday just fine, had to restart for network stuff, still everything fine. After playing for 2 hours i stopped and wanted to queue for a quick match of CS:GO. after 5mins in BSOD 124. Boot again get back in the match same thing 5mins later. Alright something has to be off here. Hearthstone works fine pc runs fine but CS:GO (haven?t tried another 3D app yet) 5mins in BSOD again.

I tried to check everything that i thought was causing the problem, i did the memcheck and the Disccheck through build in Windows command (all good). I tried Furmark and it lasted around 7mins then BSOD again. I did clean the insides of my PC just then and started Furmark again. Lasted around 20min and maybe further but had to stop because of work. I thought the problem was the dust but i just started CS:GO and 2min into the match BSOD 124.

I experienced this kind of crash before with witcher 3 but that depended on the Game version and was solved by OCing my CPU and GPU. I did not try this for CS:GO yet.

I hope you can help me track down the cause of these BSODs, if you need further info just say so.
Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Happened again with RO2. Added latest dmp.

Dear forumers,

I have an issue with a non-unicode program. I want to learn to type the Russian standard keyboard layout (ЙЦУКЕН) so have an application which teaches me called Anykey 1.02 Demo. The problem is that this is not a fully unicode application and since my system is not set to russian at Control Panel -> Regional Settings -> Advanced tab, Anykey won't display cyrillic letters correctly, it shows questionmarks instead. Of course, it'd be simple to just set up the system run non-unicode applications in Russian, but it also messes up everything (another non-unicode apps). It's not really comfortable to restart the system every time I want to practice by Anykey, so I'm asking if there's any way to run an application (only one, separately from the other) with different non-unicode settings (eg. a command or *.manifest file or sg.)?

Thanks for your help

Greeting,

I'm trying to run an application, named Da51, STK, and POS, which are written in MS-DOS based since 20 years ago.

I execute command.com, I went to that folder, and manually type in the command myself.

Hi,
First time here, and it's to try to get a problem solved.
I have various applications which I sell. Written in Visual Studio.net some in 2003, and some in 2008 versions. However the problem is the same with both.
The applications have been running successfully on Vista 32 bit, but with Vista 64 bit, this error message appears when the user tries to start the program:

Runtime error:
An unhandled error has occurred.
"An attempt to load a program with an incorrect format, (Exception from HRESULT:0x8007000B)"

If the problem persists, please contact your software supplier.

I would appreciate any advice / information about this.

Answer:Problem running studio.net application in 64

More info about the architecture of your apps would be useful.

In this context, 0x8007000B (facility=Win32, error=0n11) usually means you're trying to load a 64-bit binary into a 32-bit process, or vice versa. As you're probably aware, 64-bit Windows can run either 64-bit or 32-bit code, but any given process must be entirely composed of either 32-bit or 64-bit binaries, except for the thunking layer (wow64.dll, wow64cpu.dll...).

If your apps are managed code (reliant on the CLR and the .Net framework), they'll run as 32-bit on a 32-bit OS, and 64-bit if moved over to a 64-bit box. That's a problem in a scenario where you've also got a 32-bit DLL which is unmanaged and which you're trying to load into your process. That'll work fine on a 32-bit platform, because both the managed and unmanaged portions of the app are 32-bit, but when you move the same setup over to a 64-bit box the managed stuff now automagically becomes 64-bit and it can no longer load a 32-bit native component into its process.

If that's you, there are several ways to resolve the issue, depending on your exact needs. Check out the CORflags utility - MSDN has lots of info on how to use it to tag your managed code to always run as 32-bit, even on a 64-bit platform. A more complex alternative, which is apt under some circumstances, is to provide separate 32-bit and 64-bit binaries for the (compiled) native component.

Hello! I just recently joined this site and this is my first post. I just have one question, hope somebody can help me with this. I'm developing this application wherein an application(not mine) will pass a value(in this case, a phone number) to my application. Once received, my application will search and pull from the database any other information regarding this number. I am using VB6 as front end and SQL Server 2000 as backend. Please note that my application is running when the value is passed. Please help..

Answer:Passing Values to a running VB application

In normal situations where the apps are running on the same computer...
Use SendMessage with WM_USER. Look up SendMessage with google.

Getting the handle to the other app is where you need to be creative.
A) Have the other app get your window handle by window text.
B) Have the other app read a text document that your program wrote when it started with the handle written in it.

In your case. The only way I can think to do it is by a shared file containing the phone numebr to look up. Have the number producing app append to a text document, the phone number/separated by a certain character; #8973458754#3457658324...
Have your app check that file for numbers on a loop making sure to sleep for 5 seconds or so - Sleep(5000) to give the number producing app a chance to open the file and write numbers. When your app reads the first number, remove it and write the text document anew. That is the short explanation. There are other details dealing with writing and reading files that I didn't get into.

I installed a program on a different computer and it ran just fine, but when I installed it on this computer (ASUS P4C800E Deluxe) it seemed to install and said it was successful, but when I went to use the program this is the message I got: "Could not run your drive information, please run the Drive Selector application." I don't understand what that means or where to go...the program is for copying DVD/videos. I tried installing it twice with the same results. The drives are recognized and run just fine for all other programs. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Answer:Running Drive Selector Application??

My guess is that this has to do with the Zone selector.
When you buy a DVD drive, it's generally set to a specific Zone.
I think that the program that you've installed is trying to work on a different
zone from the one you DVD drive is set to.
Is your DVD drive on your other computer is multi-zone?

Hello,

I'm trying to set up a new computer, and unfortunately there are two MS-DOS design programs that need to run on it. We've been running these programs on an old MS-DOS 6.0 PC forever and finally decided it's time to get rid of that computer. I tried installing the MS-DOS under VirtualBox, but had continuous problems completing the installation (usually when the computer asked for Disk #2, it wouldn't recognize that the disk was present). I looked at VirtualPC 2007, but since they no longer support the MS-DOS addons for mouse emultation and shared directories, I ended up installing DOS to VirtualPC 2004 with no problems.

So here's the problem, each of the legacy programs requires its own Parallel Port Dongle (we have both of these and they work fine on the older DOS computer). When everything is finally set up, one of the programs runs and recognizes its dongle, but the second one does not. (I also tried DOSBOX, but then neither program detected its dongle).

Can anyone suggest a way for me to get this working, or at least some troubleshooting steps I can take? I have so far tried rearranging the dongles, installing different versions of the software (we had a few upgrade packs), slowing down the software using moslo, and monitoring the parallel port to try and see if the software and the dongle are talking at all. I tried monitoring the Parallel port with PortMon, but it didn't display any communications at all (even with the program... Read more

hey,
i am a constant user of Adobe Premiere Pro, and i normally used it on my 32 bit installation of Windows XP. but when i installed a 64-bit version of Windows XP and ran Premiere, it lagged. badly.

any ideas?

something tells me that it is because it's running in 32-bit compatibility mode...

an extract from part of the adobe website:
"After optimizing and architecting three versions of Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects for 64-bit systems, Adobe has decided that future versions of Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects software will offer native support for 64-bit operating systems. Because 64-bit operating systems offer superior performance, future releases of these products will not be supported on 32-bit operating systems."
that leads me to believe, as they said 'Future versions of Adobe Premiere Pro...'

yea.

something also tells me that the only way around it until they come out with CS5 (oh geez, the 5th one ) is to install 32-bit windows XP

opinions? i've sided with installing 32 bit.

When you change the following registry value to "1", is FIPS enabled in realtime or does the machine need to be rebooted?

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\FIPSAlgorithmPolicy\Enabled

We require FIPS 140-2 compliance on all machines running WinZip. I was wondering if it was possible to enable FIPS when WinZip is opened. FIPS breaks several sites, applications, etc in our environment and trying to find the best way to be FIPS compliant so
that WinZip runs in FIPS mode. FIPS is not needed for anything other than WinZip at this point. Any suggestions?

When my desktop appears after logging on, "Usernit logon application not running" appears. Subsequently I cannot sign onto windows live mail. How can I rectify this without set up disks?

Answer:Usernit Logon Application not running

I suggest starting all troubleshooting with the following diagnostic tests (located at this link: Hardware Diags ). They'll save you a lot of time and heartache if there is a hardware failure, and you'll have the disks on hand in case you need them in the future:

I have been a long time user of a fantasic software tool for Google Earth called GE Path by a clever fellow R.Sgrillo. It's an older piece, not enhanced beyond it's current version from 2012. I have tried to consult the creator for support, but I'm not even certain he provides much towards it anymore. After a recent hard drive reformat, and reinstallation of Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit and GEPath, I have found that I am unable to use GE Path due to an error I had never experienced before.

When I execute the application, I am met with this error: "Component 'FM20.dll ' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is mising or invalid."

I can confirm installation of Microsoft Office has left FM20.dll in my Windows/System32 directory. What might be causing this issue, and how do I resolve it?

The author's website states that the software requires vb6 runtimes, which I can't say for certain I have or not.  I clicked on the link he provied to download, which takes me to a Microsoft page no longer available.

I have a flash application running within a secure site. The program uses resources such as video clips and powerpoint presentations. Video clips work OK, but when I ask it to open a .ppt, a popup window appears briefly and then disappears again.
Popup blocker is disabled, and I don't have google or yahoo toolbars.
It's running in a trusted site with all the settings set to minimum security.
there is nothing wrong with the ppt - it runs perfectly on my pc, and from within my secure site.
And (perhaps crucially) it all works perfectly in Firefox!

This all leads me to conclude that there is a setting in IE7 that is wrong, but I can't for the life of me figure out what.

Can anybody help?
The ppt is one of the Resources within the SCORM-compliant "OCR PE AS level Teaching Support" from Heinemann. This is running as a course within the Fronter VLE. (Just on the off-chance that there is someone with specific knowledge of this!)

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I am developing a Java based application and need to make sure that if it crashes, it comes back on. I tried setting it up as a service, but as it requires interaction with the user, the "Interactive Services Detection" is tripped when I try to bring it up.

My thoughts right now are to have it update a text file periodically and have a service monitor that text file. If the file has not been updated, then the service runs a script which reopens the application... does anyone know if there is an easier way of doing this? (or if this will even work?)

Thanks!

Answer:How do I keep a Java Application running at all times?

Create one user app and one service app. The service app checks on the status of the user app and restarts it - if need be.

Well, you have to get the permission of the server owner/Operator, and arrange to upload the code to them. They'll manage the Appl from their end.

Hi everybody,

I'm not sure what happened but last night at some point Outlook Express starting giving me these messages when I tried to open it:

Then this after clicking ok:

In addition to Outlook Express not working my default applications that come with Windows (like games and accessories) lost their normal icons and just had blank windows like this:

Now, when I actually clicked on the icons and started them up, they came back to normal but why the change in the first place? But Outlook is still not working.

I have laready checked Microsoft help: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;296969

I did indeed make the registry changes to have program download into my D: drive instead of C: None of the solutions worked for me however.

Anyone know how to fix this or what caused it?

Thank you!

Hi All,

I'm a newbie here, so sorry if I haven't done a proper search on the forum to a solution for my problem, I tried but couldn't find an exact match. I had to dump my Sound Blaster X-FI card because of the pops and crackles, which I didn't have in XP. I'll try to resolve that problem by downloading Windows 7 drivers.

So meanwhile I reverted back to the onboard sound card. Crackles and popping gone, but I can only get sound from one application at a time. For example if I run my DAW studio software sound is fine, then I switch to U-Tube, and no sound comes out from U-Tube. So it looks like it can handle only one dedicated application at a time. I can't recall this problem with Windows 98 or XP. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Thanks a lot.

Tim

Answer:Sound only works in one running application at a time

Youtube uses Flash player. If you don't have it, get it. If you have it, reinstall it.

Also, check the Sound/Recording section. The DAW software may be setting up a recording option that will not allow other sounds to come through. If not, make sure the Stereo Mix/System Mixer is set as the default recording device. This is needed for streaming audio from the internet.

I have a recording studio using Sonar X2 Producer.

Hi,

I have created a software application (created using C#.Net) on XP machine, which runs fine and good.
Now when i migrate the application from XP to Win 7 enterprise machine as per the project requirement, I face following issues:

ISSUES:
The titles of some windows are missing.
The Cancel button on the windows form shows as a ?grey-out? color in any window. But in fact, it can be clicked and it is functioning. Is it some color issue.
Fail to close windows form by clicking "X" at right top for almost all windows.
Using mouse to drag a window would become resizing the window.

Displaying Quantity in TextBox as "123.456.789" in Order Entry Viewer(window form panel), but it should be "123,456,789"
The display ?look and feel? of the About window in Win7 is different from the one in XP (Sorry that this may not be an issue)
These, I could not replicate when application runs on windows XP machine.
Please suggest or help with some ideas How to resolve the same. Its really Important and urgent.

Hello khatri and welcome to Seven Forums.

Sometimes an older program written for an earlier version of Windows won't run in Windows 7. See if your program will run in Compatibility Mode.

Hi, before attempting any restore a few questions; what infection symptoms did your computer have?
Are you able to access the internet right now? If so, please upload a few of the quarantined files to www.virustotal.com and post the links to the scan results here.

I see also a number of cracks on your system, its really no wonder you end up with a file intector (which this looks like) as cracks are often used to spread the latest nasties. If this is, as I suspect a file infector then there's no way to retrieve the deleted files as they'll only reinfect the system.

I'll try to make this as un-convoluted as possible. I have multiple machines in my home. One of which, is a headless media server which runs Windows 10. This machine stays on 24/7 and runs various tasks, not the least of which is holding all of my media, and serving PLEX. What I want is for this machine to *always* be connected to a VPN. I have a VPN subscription, and on this machine, I have installed OpenVPN gui client. I can open the OpenVPN client and connect to the VPN just fine. Trouble is, I want this machine to *always* be connected.

OK, now that the scenario has been built... The best way I could figure on doing this, was to create a task using Task Scheduler. I've got the task all set up as follows:

GENERAL> "Run whether user is logged in or not" / "run with highest privileges"
TRIGGERS> "At system Startup"
ACTIONS> "start a program" - <path to .exe and arguments>

My problem is that when I manually click "run", nothing happens, or at least, the program does not start. However, if I change the general setting to use a user account instead of "run whether user is logged in or not", when I click run, the program launches.

Here's the conundrum I'm confronted with: If I have this task set to "start at login", how do I know the task is starting by itself? If I remote into the server machine(which is how I connect to it), then once the desktop loads, I would imagine OpenVPN... Read more

Answer:High Physical Memory without much application running

I would check and see how many programs are opening on your initial start up, because they may be running in the back ground . Go to the start menu and type in 'msconfig' and look at the programs that are listed under the start up programs, and disable any programs you do not need.

Frequently, it's advised to NOT have more than one anti-virus application installed since they can or will conflict and cause some kinds of problems. I've actually experienced this myself once, a few years ago, when two A/V apps bumped into each other when scanning outbound e-mail.

So, what other problems can occur if you have more than one A/V app installed on the same system? Will their ability to detect and clean viruses/trojans/etc be negatively impacted? Will Windows stability be lessened? What kinds of things could go wrong?

Peace...

Answer:hw to stop any application running in the background at the startup

1. Right click on the desktop icon MY COMPUTER and click on MANAGE.
2. A list opens up in this new window and if you go to the bottom you'll see the item "SERVICES AND APPLICATIONS".
3. Click on the + sign next to it, to open up the options.
4. Then click on SERVICES
5. On the right part of the screen you'll see windows applications, look for MESSENGER and double click it.
6. On the main tab, named GENERAL, you'll see this option in the middle: "STARTUP TYPE".
7. Open up the menu that probably says "automatic" in your computer, and choose "DISABLE".
8. That's it! Click on OK, close the COMPUTER MANAGEMENT window and you're all set! Next time you restart the computer, Windows Messenger won't be there. And if you ever want it back, just do the same thing but choose AUTOMATIC instead of DISABLED.

Hi,

My requirement is to start an application (UI based) in the foreground as soon as the PC boots (whether user is logged in or not). I added a task to the task scheduler & configured it to run under the same account as my foreground logon account.

I am seeing the task is scheduled but it is running in the background. Also observed that task manager is not showing the process unless I click on the button "Show processes from all users".

What is the reason for such a behavior and how can I achieve my requirement?

Thanks,
Subbu

Answer:Task Scheduler & Running application in foreground....

Yes, what you can do is start the application as a service and make sure that it is allowed to interact with the user. That way the application will start if no one is logged on, and will display when a user logs on.

I have had this problem a few times now; once when I first go tthe computer, and again when I put in a completely new hard drive and reinstalled Windows and Office 2003 (prior HD died). Basically what happens is when I load a few applications (random apps, but the same ones), every time I load them, the Windows installer starts to run. It also happens when I select different things in the app. The messages I get:

"Windows installer - preparing to install"

then

"Microsoft Office Standard Edition 2003 - Please wiat while Windows configures Mcirosoft Office Standard Edition 2003"
-blue bar goes to completion, then:

"Error 2908. An internal error has occured." Then gives a bunhc of letters and #s, and tells me to contact microsoft support.

I tried to reinstall Office, but it always comes back eventually. Installer cleanup tool didnt work either, although maybe I used the wrong one? Any ideas?

Can someone advise of any good applications that Iam able to run on my second monitor which would show me local weather, forecast, time, date, resources currently running, etc... something to make my second monitor useful while I use one for web browsing...

I have currently added about 6 gadgets (mini browser, weather app, clock, CPU Meter, USB Easy removal shortcut gadget and APP Launcher. It kind of does the job but I'd prefer to have one app do it all - if it exists at all...

My computer is set to turn off the display after 30 minutes and put the computer to sleep after 1 hour.
If I leave the computer for a short while, a key press or mouse movement turns the screen on or wakes the computer up.

If the computer is left for many hours a previously installed application would be opened up.
A previous post Adobe Acrobat Reader DC is open when system wakes up. refers to this.

No knowing what else to do, I uninstalled Acrobat Reader and replaced it with a competitor (which doesn't open without being told do do so.

An application uninstalled since then, CoolEdit Pro, is behaving the same way as Acrobat Reader did.

In another forum, talking about Microsoft's FlightSim 2004 compatibility in Windows 8, a recommendation given several times was to avoid installing it into the default folder (Program File (x86) and to install it in a separated, devoted, folder.

Thinking that this might help, I uninstalled CoolEdit, and cleaned any left-overs with IOBit's uninstaller, and reinstalled it in its own folder.

It is still open when I wake the computer up after many hours.

How can I overcome this?

Answer:I find an application running when computer wakes.

CoolEdit is an Adobe product. That may be why it acts like Adobe Reader. You could try the free PdfXChange Editor:
Tracker Software Products :: Product

I don't use Sleep so I can't say that PdfXChange would not act as Adobe does. But I do know it's a free editor. May be worth a try.

I have a HP Pavilion dv6t 7000 quad edition with i7-3610QM CPU @ 2.30 8 gb RAM and a nvidia 650 m gt, running Windows 7 64 bit edition.
I got the laptop last week, but didn't get to test it or anything because of the hurricane.

I have installed all windows update, updated all drivers and such.

Whenever I run a game with 3D application, my computer freezes up and the sound loops. At first I thought it was the game's fault, but it happened with both Diablo 3 and Guild Wars 2, so I thought it was a drivers issue.

I first installed the Windows Update graphic drivers, that didn't work, so I reformatted and installed official nVidia drivers. That didn't work either, so I reformatted again, and installed the official HP drivers by scanning my computer for the correct ones.

Then I proceeded to think that it was a overheating issue, and so I downloaded FluidMark and ran the program. It was ok for a minute or two, then crashed. I ran it again, and made note that it crashed around 56 degrees. I ran it again (using different settings) and it crashed around 56 degrees (Celsius(is 56 degrees Celsisus considered hot?)).

I have no idea what else to look for, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If it is an overheating issue, can I fix it myself, or will that void my warranty.

If I can fix it myself, can anyone give me some pointers?

If you need any further information, just ask.
