Preferred Solution: Clicking Add/Remove Program icon in Control Panel does not start the Program

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

In the Control Panel there is an icon for Symantic LiveUpdate but the program is removed from the Add/Remove Programs list.

How do I remove the entry in the Control Panel?

I found the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility 7.2 to remove entries in the Add/Remove Programs dialog box, super utility.

Have you checked to see if the program has a built in removal function? - they tend to work better than M$ own.You could also try CCLeaner - this has a built in remover for applications and works really well.

I'm on a friends computer and while getting rid of some unwanted software and spyware I noticed there is something in the Add or Remove Program list that's very bizzare. The list has 4 programs starting with the letter A. If I click below that, the area below it Highlights. I scroll down what seems to be about 8 feet (8 pages worth) of highlighted area then the list of programs continues. If I click sort by date, the area changes so it has nothing to do with the last A program.

I'm guessing this is some sort of malware, but have no clue how to find out what it is, and there is no button in the area to uninstall it. It doesn't load as everything in HijackThis is normal, and there is nothing in the process tree that is abnormal.

Any ideas what it may be or how to get rid of it ?

TIA

Jym

Answer:Control Panel -> Add or Remove Program

I had this very same problem and it was due to programs that were left behind on the add/remove list that could not be completely uninstalled or removed from the list.

Do you know the path of the files? (ex: C:\my documents/file.extension)? if so, then get to a command prompt and type: DEL then type the path and file name. this should force delete them. try that and let us know.

I had Intellitype pro 7.1 installed awhile back. I thought I had it successfully uninstalled, however I noticed the other day that it was still listed in Programs and Features in Control Panel. When I click on it there are no options for 'Modify' or 'Uninstall'. I did a search for Intellitype in my C drive and found only a couple of empty folders which I then deleted. This did not solve my problem though... I found a couple of Intellitype items in my regedit but I do not want to be messing around with my registry without knowing the consequences. How do I remove this program from my Control Panel and is it safe to delete these items in the registry?

I am running W2K w/SP2 and just noticed that the Add/Remove wizard that runs from the control panel says that no programs are installed. There are a number of products installed and all appear to be working correctly from the program menu and shortcuts. Why would the Add/Remove process think there aren't any programs installed? How do you correct this? Some products don't have "Uninstall" options and you must use the ADD/Remove program icon to do the install.

Hello.

A few days ago I ran a program which cleans Windows Registry. Since then, every program and file seemed ok.

But today I decided to uninstall a given program. I opened Windows (XP) control panel, and clicked on remove/install programs.

The usual list of installed programs appears, but ... the change & remove buttons disappeared for all softwares but two of them !

Any idea ?

The computer is running Windows XP Professional SP3. When I go into Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs, there are no options showing for "Remove" or "Change" program. I took this issue up in the Infection forum and tried to get it resolved there. However I couldn't fix the problem. After doing a registry backup, I performed tweak #337 in Kelly's Korner, as instructed, and then attempted a System File Checker "scannow" repair. The problem still exists. Anybody got any ideas?

Answer:Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs not allowing program removal

Caution is advised - at your own risk.As it involves a registry edit, backup up your registry first with a program such as ERUNT and you may also want to create a system restore point.See this link:Some applications in Add/Remove Programs list are missing Change and Remove buttons:http://www.winxptutor.com/arpbuttons.htmThis assumes that your system is not infected.

I use Windows XP. I have two problems using the Add/Remove function in my Control Panel: specifically I want to remove a program called "Creative Zen V Series (R2). The prompt after attempting to remove comes back with "The specific module could not be found" and leaves the program showing. I need to get rid of this entry.

Secondly I want to remove "Calendar Creator 9" and when this is selected to remove, I get a prompt that says "To install the program it must first be removed using the Control Panel function Add/Remove. This is frustrating as that is exactly what I'm trying to do, NOT INSTALL the program again.

Could use some help with this. Remaining programs can be removed easily using the add/remove function.

Uninstall Both the Programs Manually

To remove the invalid/orphaned entries from the Add/Remove applet manually [Windows 2000/XP]

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
2. Locate the following key in the registry:
3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
4. Make sure you backup the keys by exporting them to a .reg file.
5. Look for the name of the program with the orphaned entry.
6. Delete the entire listing for the software with the orphaned entry.
7. Close the registry editor.
8. Restart your computer.

Louis,This issue may occur if the Outlook registry key is corrupted. When other programs try to use the Outlook Simple MAPI interface, they cannot retrieve the required information from the registry. You must first remove the corrupted Outlook registry key, and then perform a Detect and Repair operation to have Outlook rebuild the key. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type regedit, and then press ENTER.
In Registry Editor, locate the following subkey in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Clients\Mail\Microsoft Outlook
Select the subkey, and then press DELETE.
Click Yes.
Quit Registry Editor.
Start Outlook.
On the Help menu, click Office Diagnostics.
Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the repair.

Important: Above section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

(I have Windows Ultimate, 32bit)

Answer:Remove an icon from Control Panel

Hello Archdeacon, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You can look in the registry at the location below.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ControlPanel\NameSpace

Once there, look at each long number CLSID key in the left pane under NameSpace until you see the same TweakUI entry that displays in the Control Panel in the right pane for (Default). If you spot it, then you can just right click on and delete the long number CLSID key for it.

Hope this helps,

Recently I went through the malware removal process, and then installed AdvancedSystemCare v5.2.0 PRO. I am not sure if this is a result, but now there is a longer delay after clicking on a program icon. I have set ASCPro to work automatically. I can hear the hard drive constantly chugging through stuff in the background. Does this slow down my computer? Prior to this the response time after clicking was quite fast, but now it seems definitely slower. I looked at the task manager, but didn't really know what to look for.
I have attached an ASC Diagnostic report, if that's a help.
Please keep suggestions simple, as I'm fairly basic with computers.
Thanks.

[<< See OS over here]

I've tried Googling my issue with not much success, so here goes: at one point I had a program called Uninstall Tool on my computer which added a shortcut in Control Panel. I have since uninstalled it but the Control Panel icon remains, I would like to remove it. My Googling has so far only come across ways of hiding Control Panel entries, but I would prefer to remove it altogether.

Is there a way of doing this such as searching a particular directory/registry entry of sorts where said entries (or locations of entries) are stored?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Jon.

Answer:[SOLVED] Remove a Control Panel icon?

Control panel applets are usually stored in the Windows\System32 folder, and will have a .cpl extension.

Switch to Details View, sort by Type, scroll almost all the way down to the Control Panel item type, see if the tool is listed there.

There may be other related DLLs that were not removed, but removing the .cpl file if present should keep it from appearing in Control Panel.

Hi,

I can't seem to find a solution this anywhere online.
It's not been an issue in terms of system performance, but it's just annoying. And also a little weird.

I changed motherboards a while back. Old one had VIA audio. New one has Realtek.
Uninstalled the old drivers and installed new drivers when I made the hardware switch.

Current system works fine in every way, including the Realtek Audio.

The thing is, there is still an icon for "VIA HD Audio Deck" in control panel. When I click it, it tells me "application not found".
I have tried the tip to right-click to create a shortcut on desktop, and then find the actual file location from the new shortcut's details, but it does not show a location for the VIA cpl or other files, other than All Control Panel Items. Can't figure out how to get it out of there.

I have tried installing the old VIA drivers and uninstalling, no joy.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

Answer:Cannot remove VIA HD Audio Deck icon from Control Panel

First make a restore point then search using "Find" in RegEdit for all the keys for VIA HD Audio Deck and delete them.

I have a Bible program in my taskbar that when I click on it, a popup appears asking if I want to continue installing Office Professional 2003, which is already installed. If I let it run the message pops up that is attached by screen capture. Even if I try to start eSword from ?All Apps? I?m presented with the same issue. After clicking in the cancel window some 4-5 times of the Office window, then eSword will open. It isn?t a major issue, just a nuisance.
It must have something to do with the fact that I finally got back to Windows 10 Pro from a Reflect Image backup I did back in July when I first up-graded to 10 from 7.
Any suggestions why this is happening?

Answer:Clicking taskbar icon starts wrong program.

Hi, when you restored the image, was what you restored sufficient to give you a completely consistent working environment?

For example, some people install programs on D:. Did you restore only all the Windows partitions (Recovery, System, your Windows partition, EFI partition (assuming you use UEFI)?

And what happens if you make the required file available?

I'm using Windows Vista updated within the past 4-5 days.

A couple of days ago AVGFree stopped a virus (it indicated the name was not known) from downloading to my computer. It moved it to the vault and strongly recommended I reboot to remove all traces of the virus. I did so but experienced a problem on the reboot. When the desktop appeared everything was placed where it was supposed to be with some exceptions.

1. The sidebar and all gadgets did not appear.
2. Not all of the icons in the task bar appeared.
3. When clicking on any icons a window opens and asks 'Open with'

I was able to run a virus scan with only two trojans appearing in the sun\java folder (fakeAV). Both files were removed by AVGFree. I rebooted and the same happens.

I tried running System Restore a couple of times and received a message that there were no restore points. On the 4th or 5th attempt there was a restore point, I used it with no difference.

I also tried using the Startup Repair utility with no problems showing.
Could it be possible that when AVGFree removed the virus it also removed some important files that Windows needs to finish the startup process? Or is there something more insidious going on?

Any help would be appreciated.

How do I uninstall a program that does not show up in the Program and Features of the Control Panel?

It is on the machine.

Thanks so much, Pat

Answer:Uninstall Program that are not in the Control Panel

Some programs do not place entries into the registry and thus don't need to be uninstalled, only deleted. Look in the program folder. Is there an "uninstall" file? If not, you can likely just delete it.  What is the name of the program?

I installed a dictionary and uninstalled it. It still appears in 'all programs' but does not appear in control panel > programs and features nor in revo uninstaller. When I click the icon in start > all programs, the dictionary opens and works well. Now it is causing a message 'error reading trayicon 1 -> visible, etc.' every time I boot up.

Can anyone suggest some way of getting rid of it permanently, please? Thanks in advance.

Answer:My all installed program are not in control panel, please help

Hello email, welcome to Sevenforums!

There are few programs that do not appear in control panel. It would greatly help if you let us know what program that isn't showing.

It may not detect it either, but you can try Revo Uninstaller: Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

Can you look through your programs and find it, perhaps it has an uninstaller tool that came with it?

Ccleaner (I do not recommend the use of this program's registry cleaner) also has an uninstaller tool.

I have a all in one printer from HP (PSC 1600) that is not on the same wavelength as windows. We've had to delete and re-install the software for the printer many times. Unfortunately, last time this happened my husband did it for me and it worked (until late in the night) and forgot to tell me about it. The very next morning I started deleting everything as I thought it was the non-functioning program. Now he refuses to help me, and I can't blame him but I can't do it on my own. To try again I should delete all bits of program (or entire programs?) from HP on my computer. I used the control panel, and it worked but not with all programs. I have two left that start deleting normally until it stops and comes back to the list of programs with no error messages or anything...
Can you help?
thanks

HEY EVERYONE

I HAVE DOWNLOADED AND INSTALLED A GAME 'COMBAT ARMS' WOKS GREAT, HOWEVER I AM UNABLE TO UNINSTALL IT, AS IT IS NOT LOCATED IN THE CONTROL PANEL TO UNINSTALL AND THE UNINSTALLER IS NOT IN THE COMBAT ARMS FOLDER IN THE C DRIVE. I HAVE DOWNLOADED 'MYUNINSTALLER' AND STILL THE PROGRAM IS NOT THERE TO UNINSTALL.

SO I HAVE INSTALLED THE PROGRAM AGAIN FROM THE SAME SETUP FILE AND INSATLLED IN THE SAME PLACE AS THE FIRST TIME I INSTALLED THE PROGRAM AND THIS TIME I AM ABLE TO UNINSTALL IT AS IT IS LOCATED IN THE CONTROL PANEL. I THEN UNINSTALLED THE PROGRAM AND RESTARTED THE COMPUTER AND RAN CCLEANER. NOW IT SEEMS TO BE UNINSTALLED. NO TRACES LETOTHER THEN AN EMPTY FOLDER IN THE C DRIVE.

MY INQUIRY IS:
1. WHY WASN'T I ABLE TO UNINSTALL IT IN THE FIRST PLACE?
2. IF SOMETHING LIKE THIS AGAIN OCCURS WHAT SHOULD I DO?
3. THE APPROACH I HAVE TAKEN BY INSTALLING THE SAME PROGRAM AGAIN WITHOUT UNINSTALLING IT IN THE FIRST PLACE, IS THIS A CORRECT THING TO DO?
DOES THIS ANY HAVE REPERCUSSIONS ON THE COMPUTER?
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I MUST DO? OR IS EVERYTHING FINE?

THESE QUESTIONS ARE FOR ME TO LEARN FROM AND KEEPING MY COMPUTER IN TOP PERFORMANCE, AS I DON'T WHAT SIGNIFICANT TRACES OF THIS GAME LURKING AROUND, SLOWING MY COMPUTER DOWN.

Answer:Uninstalling program not in control panel

Looks like you hit the nail on the head: If a program is missing an uninstall protocol the best thing to do is try reinstalling it. You got "lucky" (although in my experience, there is no such thing as luck ). And CCleaner is a good one for removing little traces left in the Registry.

I have zero idea why there was no uninstall in the first place. Welcome to the world of computers.

If it happens again and the reinstall trick doesn't work, I'd just go ahead and remove the program files and run CCleaner. The registry cleaner should be able to identify which items still have valid references to the program files.

Answer:FAX program has been removed from Control Panel

Using FaxFax provides you with complete fax facilities from your computer. You can configure fax settings, send and receive faxes, track and monitor fax activity, and access archived faxes. Using Fax, you can choose to send and receive faxes with a local fax device attached to your computer, or with a remote fax device connected to fax resources located on a network.

Fax is not installed by default during Windows Setup.

To install the Fax component
Open Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.
Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
In the Windows Components Wizard, select the Fax Services check box, and then follow the instructions on your screen.
Notes

To open Fax after installation, click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to Communications, and then click Fax Console.
For more information on using Fax, click Help in Fax Console.

I'm using Win7 Home Premium 64-bit, and I'm using the program Expressit 3.1 to create my CD labels.

I downloaded it from here:
exPressit SE - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

Now, the files it creates, of which I have several made using its previous version, 3.0, are suffixed .exp. I have set my Win7 installation so that ExpressIt is the default program to open these files. Double-clicking an .exp file should therefore open that CD label in the ExpressIt program.

However, when I double-click an .exp file, the ExpressIt program does not open so that I can work with the file. If I run the ExpressIt program first, then 'Open' the file from within the program, it all works fine. (The problem with this 'workaround' is that when going to Open the file, its default directory is nowhere near the directories containing my .exp files and takes ages to browse to, so I don't want to do it like that).

So, is there some sort of setting I have missed out that prevents the program running when I double-click the .exp file icons? Or is there a tweak I can use?

Answer:Running a default program by double-clicking file icon

When you selecz the default program use the browse button to locate any other .exe files in the expressit directory, and see if it works.
I can be the problem, that the .exe that you have associated the file extensio with is just an app laucnher exe and not the main software, which can hadle the files.

Hi all

Looking for some help with an odd problem that has just started on my Windows 8.1 64bit system.

If i want to un-install a program via Control Panels programs & features the usual Un-install/Modify option is no longer showing, and if I right click on the program although un-install is then shown clicking on it just gives an error message about it probably being already un installed and do I want to remove the entry from the list

Anyone know why this should have just happened and how to fix it, hopefully without having to do a clean install.

Thanks for any help with this

Paul

Answer:Unable to Un-Install a program from control Panel

This happens when the registry entry for the uninstallation of the software has been incorectly configured, or damaged.
This can also happen when an uninstallation utility fails to clear the entries in the registry during or after a software uninstallation.
Without manually looking into the rergistry, and confirming whether or not the software exists on the computer still, there is no way to know whether or not the software was uninstalled.
There are a few tools which can uninstall software, and locate any left over files and registry entries. This is the best alternative to manually inspecting the offending entry.

Revo Uninstaller has a free version which can uninstall 32-bit applications. Their pro version isn't worth paying $40 for though.

Answer:How to uninstall a program which does not show in Control Panel

Programs are typically installed in the Program Files folder. I see that you want to delete the DivX folder in Program Data folder. It could just be your data files remaining after you have uninstalled the program - which could simply be deleted.

There is no "alot" folder that I can see. I have opened and looked in many of the program files. I could not find it in the control panel's add/remove programs.
Personally, I really don't like "alot," but I don't know how to get rid of it. I don't even know where it came from. But (and hope I am not stepping on any toes) should it be legal to impose on personal computers without providing a way to easily remove the imposition?

Also, while I am at it, some virus program (I will call a wanna-be virus program) keeps trying to solve my computer's problems. This seems to have come along about the same time alot started giving problems. I got so tired of it that I bought another virus program with a good reputation. The purchased program helped my computer, but then that wanna-be virus program keeps telling me I have over 600 errors, spyware. The way it is working out is that it seems like maybe the wanna-be is introducing errors as an excuse for me to buy it's solution. I use the program I bought to clean the errors and spyware, but then the wanna-be says I have errors/spyware again. I have kept it around just to analyze it in my own simple-minded way. Yes, I am probably simple-minded as to how these things work, but it just doesn't seem right to me.

Answer:Can not find alot in program files, not in control panel

I'm running Windows 7 on an HP laptop. I'm in the process of changing my email address to a Hotmail address (using Outlook Email). Until now I have been using a particular email client program, Fort? Agent, and the browser (IE10) is currently set up to launch Fort? Agent as my default email program if I click an email link on a web page.

So I'm trying to stop the browser from automatically launching Fort? Agent in this scenario, but I find the options within Control Panel confusing. I'm going into the 'Set Program Access and Computer Defaults' window and clicking on the 'Custom' option. The 'Choose a default email program' section is displaying the following:

A group of three option buttons as follows:

Use my current email program (the selected option)
Fort? Agent
Windows Live Mail

There are also check boxes headed 'Enable access to this program' against the latter two option buttons. Both of these are currently set to 'Yes' (i.e. ticked).

Can someone please explain how I need to set these options to avoid Fort? Agent being launched from the browser in these scenarios? Or should I be doing something completely different?

Please note that I will still be leaving Fort? Agent installed and will continue to use it until such time as I'm sure that all my contacts have started using my new email address.

Also, as I am now using web-based email rather than an email 'program', if I click on an email link within a web page, is it possible for the browser to launch a n... Read more

Open the Programs and Features control panel.
This screen contains a list of the programs installed on your computer, the company that developed it, and when it was installed.

Right-click on a program to make it highlight. Once you highlight a program you will see two new options next to the Organize and View button called Uninstall and Change (sometimes contains repair option).

There are two ways to Uninstall/Change/Repair a program as below:
1. Click the Uninstall or Change button next to the Organize and View button
2. Right-click the program, then choose Uninstall or Change

My question is:
What's the difference between these two methods? Are they exactly the same?

Answer:right-click to uninstall/change program in control panel

Uninstall is to generally remove completely while change is a customize option to remove certain software features or components bundled within the installed programs.

Hi, I keep on getting this alert whenever I startup my computer, "keylogger PID :244:C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel\atiptaxx.exe ...". Although I terminate it using Kaspersky 7 , and when I run a scan nothing is found , is there a way to stop it completely .

Answer:C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel\atiptaxx.exe ...

keyloggers are spyware and very intrusive, they essentially capture key strokes and can potentially gain very sesitive data. You need to boot in safe mode and run your AV.

Read more

Answer:Changing default email program in Control Panel

Hi BruceUK, this is what I see on my pc.

As you also have Windows live mail, (I hope its version 2012) just do as in my image. Set up WLM with the email accounts you want (mine uses Gmail & AOL).

The other day everything went crazy. I ran Norton anti-virus which found a virus/malware but could not fix a Backdoor Trojan. Windows Defender found Two (2), both some form of a trojan and/or vicious malware (Trojan Downloader: Win32/Renos) this is the only one that I caught to write down. Went to Major Geeks site followed all (I am pretty sure) instructions on the READ & RUN ME FIRST post. Still cannot find conrol panel or gain access to properties, get message "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator". Could only access System Restore in Safe Mode, but when I enter, it initially tells me my keyboard has failed. After unconnecting and reconnecting the USB I get it to work. This only happens when I enter Safe Mode. My operating system is XP Pro SP2. Please Help I am attaching the files as told in the READ & RUN ME FIRST THREAD. I know that I can only attach Three at a time so I will follow this up with the other attachments.

Thanks in Advance.

Hi everyone, Have a problem with a missing control panel on my start menu. Also the start menu has a lot of space on the bottom and I get a message that the start menu Icons are full and that I should unpin some. Well as you can see from the picture below the start menu is not full. and my Control Panel Icon is missing.

Click Start, then right click any blank space on the start menu and left click Properties. Select the Start Menu tab at the top, click Customize midway down on the right and then click the Advanced tab at the top and see if the Contro Panel is selected for Don't Disply This Item. If it is select one of the other options, usually Display as a link, and then exit out and try again to see if it reappears. but its still not there

im sayin that in the Advanced tab there is no "Control Panel" to select

what shud i do??

Please insert the Windows XP CD into your CD/DVD drive.

Copy and paste the command below into the text box (with out the quotation marks)

Answer:control panel - uninstall programs- no file size of program

Hi Reece12sky,

When you're in the Programs and Features window, and you can see all the installed programs, look at the top right of the list. You should see a little white question mark in a blue circle. to the left of that is a the icon listing drop down menu. Click on the down arrow and select "Details" from the list.

This should do it for you. If not, please let me know.

Answer:Uninstall program not listed or appearing in Control Panel of Windows 8

Check the program folder and see if it includes an uninstaller. If so, click on it to start the uninstallation process.
Run the program installer/setup file again. See if it offers the option to Install, repair, remove the software. If so, chose the Remove option. If not, run the Install option again or the Repair option. Maybe it will now create a registry entry, that will display the program in the Control Panels Add Remove applet.
If not, see if this helps you: Uninstall programs in Windows using the Registry.

Hello guys, I have 3 thinkpads at home, 1 T420, 1 X200 and 1 X220 which happens to have the highest spec (maxed out, i7, Intel 320 SSD, 8GB ram). All are running Win7 X64 but strangely X220 is very slow to populate the program list when I select Control panel->Uninstall a program. The other two machine can finish populating the list in less than 3 seconds while X220 sometims needs more than 30 seconds to fully populate the list. The number of installed programs in X220 is 97, not much more than how many the other two have. I am very **bleep** about my X220 and it has the latest drivers from Lenovo. Other than this issue, the laptop is majorly trouble free. Not sure this is software or hardware issue. Does anyone have any idea what went wrong or have similar issue? Thanks

Answer:X220 very slow to populate the program list in control panel

Sounds either like a registry or a SSD issue

Hi all,

To start we have three separate installation packages (Windows Installer .msi's) we create. They basically work fine with no needed modifications to work in the Windows 10 World.

Once on the system, we are able to remove 2 of the three from System-Apps & Features, but one just briefly displays an install progress bar and that is it - no error message of any kind. The entry still remains in the listing.

When I check the Event Log, I see nothing more than uninstall failed - not much detail.

If I go to the good old Control Panel, I'm able to remove the installed application in question as hoped.

What is the difference between the two methods of removal? How can I troubleshoot the issue I am seeing trying to remove via Apps & Features? Do I have to set something special in my install package? The thing is, I don't remember having to do anything special and they remove just fine.

Any help appreciated!!

Thanks in advance!!

Hi there,

I suffer from a very very slow boot-up whenever I run my laptop (This started since an early time of buying it, ignored this issue without awareness till warranty got invalid). However, my laptop approximately take 5~10 minutes to be able for performing smooth use/functioning, difference of time needed to boot up is dependent according to the variety of cases at the time.
However, I just looked for a solution online and I did found (Not going to post the source here as it might oppose the rules of the forum), however, an initial step indicates me to install a program called "Startup Control Panel", I found it but unfortunately with an overrated version that seems the program is no longer updated since very long.

So, in short, all I'm asking here is a good/trusted alternative to this program.

Thanks.

Answer:Slow Boot-up requires Startup Control Panel Program

You submitted NO information on your laptop, so do the following:

Download and save the

TSG System Information Utility (SysInfo.exe)

After it's been downloaded and saved, double-click it to run it.

Information about your computer will appear.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE text here.

Hi guys

I'm not too sure when this problem actuall started - maybe a few months ago, but it's starting to become a real issue.

Whenever I try to uninstall a program through control panel>programs>uninstall a program my system reboots the moment I click on "uninstall a program".

I have searched around the net a bit and haven't found the exact problem, but have worked through a couple of soloutions to similar problems with no luck.

I have already tried to turn off "automatically restart" on system failure through system properties, only to find it was already set to "write an event to the system log".

I have not made any changes to the system (that I know off) while trying to fix this problem.

The reason this is becoming an issue is that I'm having major troubles with the latest version (7.0 and above) of roboform password manager clashing with internet explorer. Whether the 2 issues are linked is well beyound my knowledge level

Answer:reboots when accessing >control panel>programs>uninstall a program

I am currently running sfc /scannow and will post any results

Hello, I've encountered an anoying issue in control panel, the uninstalling section. I've had programs sorted by "Installed on", but since today it always stays sorted by name and even if I sort them again by any other column, it reverts back to name after I re-open or just go back and forward again. Basically, no change gets saved. Re-aranging, disabling columns just gets me the default view with name sorted again. Any helps please, must be something in registry, tried looking around the web, haven't found anything my problem releated.

I just want Windows to remember my sorting option next time I try to uninstall something.

Answer:Control Panel -> Uninstall or change program -> Columns sorting

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

The places where the column sorts are saved gets full...
...then stuff starts getting weird.

You can use the batch file in this tutorial to empty those places:
Folder View Settings - Reset All to Default

The Desktop is a folder too - so all of your shortcuts/icons will be moved to the left.
If you have a lot things on your desktop, then you might want to...
...install Desktop Restore from this website: MIDIOX
...save your current desktop
...run the batch file from the tutorial
...restore your desktop
...open the list of installed programs
...sort that list as desired
(Leave that list window open*)
...restart your computer
...and see if the sort holds.

*You might also want to consider placing a check by this Folder Option...

...then the list of installed programs will reopen after the restart.
